Truly annoying when most of a song fits Things and Situations perfectly but there's one line or verse that just throws the entire thing off. How dare.

I was tagged by @dymme thank you so much <3
Put your music library on shuffle, then list the first five songs that come up in a poll to let people vote for which one they like the most! Then tag Tumblr friends to keep the game going!
I
I must say I do not have the energy right now, so please please please (!!!) if you see this and you want to, feel tagged! Yes, you. Feel tagged and tell me what beautiful things you are listening to!!
Also @fireheartedpup. I am sorry but I am really curious.

Really entertained by the fact that I listened to @vastwinterskies' Hornblower playlist enough that the bands on it are now giving me early access to concert tickets

I was thinking about all the songs that my brain constantly piped at me so I decided to make a brain wrapped(tm) of the top five based on frequency and intensity (based on unreliable memory).
5. Hopelessly Unholy (Orchestral Version) by Kite. this appeared late in the year and it was already a song I liked (both versions) but suddenly my brain was reeeeally pushing it on me. I get a lot of Kite in my head because I really really like 'em.
4. Seltenen Erden by Sturm Café. my brain loves a bouncy synth. only this low because it's also a late entry but it was played VERY intensely even if I don't know many of the words (which is probably why the end gets played more).
3. Bend My Body Armour by A Split-Second. I don't know what these lyrics mean but boy is it catchy. please know I'm also thinking about the linked video clip a lot too. Marc Ickx still has these exact moves several decades later.
2. Slice Me Nice by Fancy. this song is summoned randomly and when I see or hear the word 'slice'. 'I'm like a cake that wants to be baked / I'm like a pie made for hungry guys' is unbeatable. I listen to italo disco now and then but Tobias Bernstrup also released a remix this year.
1.The Garden by Einstürzende Neubauten. this started very early in the year when I was listening to a bunch of EN and similar and looped for many many months so it takes top spot.

feeling nostalgic and watching utube reactors discover classic songs and then feeling both old and incredulous
#1980s music#like someone watching blondie's rapture and then stopping to go 'oh it reminds me of something it's so familiar'#different people (all younger) do this all the time and it can be infuriating#like it's an older song - did it ever occur to you that maybe what you're thinking of ... took inspiration from THIS song????#although in that case it was rather grandmaster flash and the nyc rap scene bc of course that's what the song was referencing#it's the boss baby meme but in music form#and i know i'm guikty of it too but at least in the correct direction - looking back to things that came before#not being aghast that a beat they've heard s thousand times was sampled from an old song that copied an older song lol#i will say that it is SO weird to me that peopke who say they are into hiphop never seem to reference the rap from my youth#like the late 70s and 80s sound that everything after is built on#and it's not like i know a lot about it beyond watching yo mtv raps at night lol#but i had to watch kids struggle to recognize the warren g regulate sample from michael mcdonald#like SO much of the early sampling era was just tons of samples of old records - anything they didn't have to pay for#and then listening to things and going oh this sounds like the weeknd - bro the weekend sounds like 80s songs#he sings and structures the songs in similar ways to classic tracks rather than the current trend (sometimes)#gah i'm just ranting here rather than in some poor utubers comments#i wish i had some fellow old folks to jabber with#but even when i was in high school i didn't have any friends that liked the same kind of music as i did#bts getting me more interested in music and watching videos has really been a double-edged sword sigh#everything with a live studio band with bass in it: 'oh this sounds like disco'#or worse something literally built off a disco sample and it's like they've never heard a disco song other than ymca in their life

Today I sat in an Asian food buffet restaurant across the table from two of my coworkers (we were technically at work) and almost cried over the lyric analysis that I was writing on my phone for "Rain Dance" by Big Country.

my memory’s pretty spotty but surprisingly I remember a fair amount of lyrics from a song I haven’t listened to since… at minimum 7 years
#my ramblings#old man sunshine listen you/never tell me dreams come true/just try it/and I’ll start a riot#beatrice fairfax don’t you dare/ever tell me he will care/I’m certain/it’s the final curtain#I never want to hear a cheerful pollyanna… something something#who tells you fate/provides a mate/it’s all bananas#WAIT#I NEVER WANT TO HEAR FROM ANY CHEERFUL POLLYANAS#they’re writing songs of love but not for me~ a lucky star’s above but not for me~#with love to lead the way I’ve found more clouds of grey than any russian play could guarantee~#I was a fool to fall and get that way~ high ho alas and also lackaday~#and I forget how it ends in this verse but the last last one is ‘although I can’t dismiss the feeling of his kiss I guess he’s not for me’#but I forget the entire other verse#or… chorus?#anyway there was a… well I suppose you could call it a jukebox musical but for gershwin songs#‘but not for me’ was one of my favorites#did they also have ‘how long has this been going on’?#actually so like#sondheim was very picky about lyrics and had super high standards#and one of the things he considered cheating was when stress was messed with for the sake of meter/rhyme#and in how long has this been going on#‘dantes’ is completely mangled into ‘dahn-tees’#‘sad to tell it was hell an inferno worse than dantes’#so every time I think abt those lyrics I think abt sondheim shaking his head in disapproval#well now this is basically#talking abt musicals#I need to look up who beatrice fairfax was

We have our final PPC mashup, which I selected to get the full song treatment over DDLM because it had the most compatible structure of all five choices. No transition measures, a clean 32 measures from beginning of verse to end of chorus. Unfortunately I just didn't take into account the base key, requiring much more vocal pitch shifting than the others.
The bridge being short two measures was also """fun""" to wrangle. However, that janky transition you hear does highlight something that Chappell did to express the lyrical narrative through vocal technique. The start of the pre-chorus (or first part of the chorus, depending on how you label it) which centers on her mother's point of view is sung in a falsetto, but when Chappell makes her response, she switches to a head voice/belt, which reads as a "clearer" version of her voice, signaling how this is truer to herself. (It's where she belongs!)
You can hear here how stark the contrast is, since those missing two measures covered the shift, so instead we're dunked from the falsetto into the head voice.
