Marvel definitely has a habit of celebrating their queer characters in June, with variants and short stories in the Voices book, and then doing literally nothing with them for the rest of the year. Which is incredibly frustrating as a lot of the characters in question are incredible and deserve their own series. And it feels like them searching for recognition like: “look at us! We have so many awesome LGBTQA+ characters!” Ok??? So give the individual characters their own series??

I also feel that if they’re creating a Loki book then they have to acknowledge Loki’s gender-fluidity, it’s become a stable of the character so ignoring it would take conscious effort. Even the 2019 series, that only ran for 5 issues, at least acknowledged it in various things the character said even tho they presented as male for the whole run. And now that we’ve had Defenders Beyond… I feel like not making Loki gender fluid would boarder on offensive (correct me if I’m wrong but I think some characters even used they/them for Loki in that series) But of course entirely depends on the writer, just like some writers don’t really acknowledge Clint’s Deafness, a lot of writers don’t want to actually do anything with Loki’s gender. They’re say “oh yeah he’s gender fluid. He’s just presenting as male for this whole run and never talking about it.” like Clint’s invisible hearing aids. It’s a nice out.

Unfortunately June is a long way away and we likely won’t get any clear answers until then, I’m not really very familiar with Dan Watters other work. He’s definitely not one of those writers that I just automatically trust (like, I know Al Ewing has my back). I would normally be comforted by femme Loki being on the cover but so is alligator Loki (apparently that’s just a thing now) so it feels like they’re trying to draw in fans of the TV show and might be doing the whole “female presenting Loki is her own person, a Loki variant. And not actually connected in anyway to this current version of Loki” which would suck. But we’ll see.

When are we getting an entireview on the limited Loki comic series? Are they gonna ignore defender beyond?
