More than 1,000 US and African executives, investors, and stakeholders will gather in Gaborone for the US-Africa Business Summit to discuss Africa's efforts to add value to its natural resources and form mutually beneficial partnerships, reconnect with old alliances, and attract new companies and investors. Botswana is leading the way in ensuring that Africa benefits more from its resources, with sessions at the US-Africa Business Summit focusing on various sectors including minerals, energy, health, agriculture, creative economy, and sports. (01:11)

Namibia's delegation, led by Vice President Nangolo Mbumba, will attend the four-day Summit with officials from various ministries.

2. The Daures Green Hydrogen project in Namibia's Erongo Region is expected to provide employment and housing opportunities for over 2,000 residents.

The project aims to create a database of eligible local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to participate in its construction and other related activities.

The project will showcase the sustainable production of green hydrogen and ammonia, create research opportunities, and pilot a green hydrogen economy with export potential.

Erongo Governor Neville Andre Itope has pleaded with the leadership in the region to support it and ensure the community benefit from the opportunities offered. Itope also called on local SMEs who wish to participate to take up the opportunity offered by the massive project, saying there are a number of potential spin-offs for local communities.

3. Central bank governors from the Common Monetary Area (CMA) countries, including Namibia, met to discuss the need for de-dollarization and reducing global dependence on the US dollar.

The Bank of Namibia governor, Johannes !Gawaxab, highlighted the dominance of the US dollar and its "exorbitant privilege" in running persistent trade deficits without consequences.

He suggested alternative currencies like a Brics currency or an African continental currency as potential challenges to the US dollar's dominance. However, experts believe it is unlikely to dislodge the dollar anytime soon.

Gawaxab also addressed the impact of the weak South African rand on CMA countries, but emphasized that the benefits of CMA membership outweigh the costs.

A lot has been said about automation and the end of jobs, but some futurists are busy predicting what jobs of the future might actually be. Here are some of the more interesting positions you might find yourself recruiting for in the years to come.

Space Tour Guide. Richard Branson’s already taking reservations for the moon and beyond. Can space tour guides be far behind? 1

Transhumanist designer/engineer. A human resource type of position that merges the talents of robots and humans in the workforce to maximize their performance. 2

3D Printing Engineers. From food to fashion and construction, 3D printing will be ramping up big-time. Custom food, clothing, and housing will be printed to order.

Weather Controller. According to futurist Morris Miselowski, by 2050, we won’t only be able to predict weather patterns but control them as well. This could have major implications for improving agriculture and averting natural disasters. 3 

Social Education Specialists. When looking for work, soft skills will become even more vital in the collaboration between man and machine.  

Personality Services.This job is about giving machines some personality. Funny, smart, famous or flirty, your robot or computer can be equipped with just the right “personality package.”

Waste Data Managers. As cloud storage proliferates, there will be a need for streamlining data storage by eliminating redundancies and clutter.

Urban Agriculturalists. These specialists will develop alternative, adaptable farming. Grocery stores will be able to grow the food they sell you right below their store. 

Augmented Reality Designer. Augmented reality delivers virtual elements as an overlay to the real world. It has a wide array of applications including real-time, on-site training. 4

Alternative Currency Bankers.  You may have vaguely heard something about Bitcoin, but, according to Javelin Strategies, 20% of all online trades are already being done with alternative currencies. The next generation of Fintech and alt-currency banking has already begun.

Ok, so Timebank is this really great alternative currency project in Netherlands and Brussels (and soon all over the world!). 

I worked for TimeBank by making this zine-- and through that I received Hours (currency). With Hours I can busy local groceries in Den Haag-- all through giving my time. The project is community based, and filled with really some of the greatest people.
