D*stiel shippers would swear that their ship is canon yet still be crying about it three years later. What is funny is them not connecting the dots between having 100K fanfictions and the ship not being canon lol. Do they see actual slow burn like Delena (TVD) or Chair (GG) shippers still crying about their ship being canon or sending anon to blogs trying to prove everyone about it? Off course not because their ship is canon and they get to enjoy every epic scenes, foreshadowing, heartbreaks and reunion ONSCREEN. I was in the TVD fandom and I know for a fact that people go crazy with fanfictions, manips, fan arts and edits when the ship is NOT canon. People try to make up for what they don’t have onscreen/canon and once it become canon the desire for fafics and all decreases because people are satisfied. It’s must suck to always purposely delude themselves and desperately find blogs/panderers/cult who would constantly validate their delusion.
Exactly! You only ever need to "fix" something that doesn't exist. Don't mind me, but I'm going to venture into the math portion of my response, lol! Obviously, this is a small sampling off of one tag, but I imagine it's a decent representation of SPN works.
If you sort by the Fix-it tag in AO3, there are 7600 total works. Based on that number, 66% have the Destiel tag. And that Dean and Sam number? 413 of those also have the Destiel tag. Remove that and Sam & Dean Fix-it fics only equal 4.6%.
(Oh, and that number for Eileen/Sam fics? All but 48 have the Destiel tag.)
Tumblr media
Sam and Dean fans have 327 glorious episodes of brotherly love and codependency that, in large part, requires no fixing. Hellers have to rewrite the entire show in order to make their ship work, and they're too idiotic to see it.

Every Destiel Fic I’ve Ever Read [WIP]
Let’s do it! I took this list directly from my twitter
I’m not really going to post my ratings and stuff and I’m not going to copy what I said verbatim because as I grow older my opinions always change and every fic deserves love regardless of what some stranger on the internet thinks! Check these out if you need something new to read :)
Also, side note: A lot of the fics I tend to read are either non-canon or pre S10. If your looking for canon type, recent fics this will not be a list for you and I apologize :(
Also pt. 2: Some of the fics that I have listed on my twitter are no longer available so I have decided to not list them here. It’s very sad because there were some really good ones! Regardless, I’m still trying to keep this list as up to date as I possibly can when it comes to my reading ventures. Either way, I hope you enjoy these fics as much as I do <3
1. NINETY ONE WHISKEY
By komodobits, 401,193 words (not counting other fics in the series)
Please, please, please! Read this if you haven’t yet!! It’s a slow burn, World War II based fic and it’s my absolute favorite fic of all time. In fact I think it may be my favorite story of all time!! I come back to this fic always. If I’m sad, I read it. If I’m happy, I read it. I’ve read it probably 4 or 5 times at this point and it always holds up. I will say though, IT WILL MAKE YOU CRY. Dean and Cas are written VERY well, in fact every character in this fic are written to perfection. You find yourself growing attachments to side characters that you may have even forgotten existed in the show. I seriously cannot recommend this one enough. You will not regret it.
2. A BRIEF GLIMPSE
By cloudyjenn, 12,356 words
I’ll be honest, this one is special for me. This was the very first Destiel fic I ever read back in 2014. That being said, I may be a little biased towards it but I do genuinely think that it’s very cute. It’s a Slice-of-Life esque story with light supernatural happenings; where Castiel is in high school and has a very big crush on his best friend, Sam Winchester. Things start to go awry when Sam invites Cas to a carnival. I won’t spoil too much though! If you want a quick read with some fluff, definitely read this one.
3. SMELLS LIKE ROSES
By unknown :(, 53,828 words
Uhoh! A Djinn fic! I remember this one just hurting me so much. Dean is living his dream life. Everything around him is perfect and he’s mysteriously very happy. When you get to the end of this fic, holy cow the heartbreak. It’s written very well, you obviously can’t go wrong with a fic that slightly follows canon. I really like this one and I might reread it again soon but I cannot stress enough how much it hurts! Stay safe out there.
4. NOT ALL THE WAY THROUGH
By Tracy, around 4,700 words
Shorter fic based around s5 episodes 3 and 4. This one is good but it’s also very painful. I think I like fics that hurt me lol. There are some warnings I want to state! This fic features substance abuse, non con, mentions of torture and A CHARACTER DEATH so please be careful! This is told through Castiel’s perspective and all the summary says is “Castiel’s new life begins and ends with Dean.” So I will leave it at that. (Also as a side note whenever I think of this fic I think of the song ‘And So it Goes’ by Billy Joel. Listen to that while reading and you are sure to shed some tears. Stay safe friends xx)
5. PAINTED ANGELS
By WinnJennster, 105,637 words
This one used to be really popular, so it’s likely many of you have already read it. Either way I will still recommend it. It’s a nice little “reunited” type fic in which Cas is an author and Dean is a painter. I will say, however, that the angst in this fic is HEAVY. Personally, I’m not huge into giant angsty fics like this, or maybe the type of angst portrayed in this one. I just remember feeling a little frustrated by it. YET, this fic has a lot of good memorable moments with some fluff sprinkled throughout. If you love angst, this is the fic for you. WARNING though, you need an AO3 account to read this fic. If you’re not already logged in, you’re out of luck.
6. TWIST AND SHOUT
By Gabriel and standbyme, 97,556 words
Who are we kidding?? Everyone on this website KNOWS this fic. You all could probably recount it backwards, forwards, sideways, upside down. Who knows. All we know is that this fic is a capital S-A-D. When I was in high school, I LOVED this fic. I adored it, no matter how much it made me cry. Because YES there is a MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH. And NO it’s not FUN. Can I be honest? After rereading it, I feel as if Cas and Dean are out of character! Doesn’t mean it’s a bad story, absolutely not. It’s beautiful! I think it’s wonderful and obviously I recommend it. But you could change the names of the boys and you wouldn’t even know its based off two characters from Supernatural. This is my hill and I will gladly die on it. Read it if you dare, but remember to beware OOooOOoooOo (another side note: I had to go to the fic to get the link for this post and I swear to God my eyes watered when I read that first sentence. I HATE and I LOVE this fic all at the same time.)
7. SMOKE IN THE MIRROR
By letters_of_stars, 52,327 words
Oh shoot! Dean is an artist and he needs a nude model!! Who do you think is gonna take the bait?!?! In all seriousness though, I really adore this one. YES Castiel is nude and YES Dean is painting him but if you’re expecting smut right from the get go you are mistaken! I wanna say this is another slow burn?? But it has also been a while since I’ve read it. I just remember liking this one a lot. In my original rating, I gave it a 5/5 so that’s gotta mean something. Another little slice of life with a lot of good moments. Check it out!
8. A HOME BENEATH THE STARS
By CheshireMoon, 71,240 words
Hi, it’s me again. The girl who likes fics that rip her heart to SHREDS. I’m gonna be about as vague as can about this one because boy did that ending catch me off guard when I first read it. So Dean is homeless, right? And Cas is a kind hearted, Good Samaritan, astronomer. When the two meet Dean’s life changes… for the better… I’m gonna leave it at that. You could be ignorant like me and skip over the warnings to this fic and just leave it to good will and faith that this fic will leave you happy and giggly. Or you could do yourself a favor and know what’s coming but not know when it happens. Either way, I still recommend this one. I really like it, just make sure you have a fluff fest fic waiting for you on the other side.
9. THE FACE OF HEAVEN
By orange_crushed, 9,772 words
This one is short and so so sweet. Another type of slice-of-life where Dean is just a gay bartender living his best gay bartending life when he suddenly comes across a fallen star whose name is Castiel. It’s very unique and I love it so much. In my original opinion of this fic I said I didn’t like the formatting? And I think what I meant to say is, I don’t like reading long paragraphs but the formatting to this fic is perfectly fine lol. Still a fun little read and it’s pretty fluffy!
10. SO MUCH TANGLED THREAD
By imogenbynight, 37,428 words
Holy crap! Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES. It’s like, Ninety One Whiskey almost, except there’s time travel, and supernatural happenings, and OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS FIC. It’s ends pretty quick but it’s still so so so good. Please read it, show it some love. I think about this one from time to time and I still smile. Much like with Painted Angels, you need an account to read this one. So make sure you’re logged in! If you don’t have an account you best get that invitation fr.
11. DIAMOND STAR HALO
By had, 4,924 words
Just pure fluff told from Sam Winchester’s perspective. I kind of have a soft spot for fics told from a third party perspective because it’s like they’re seeing Dean and Cas how WE see Dean and Cas and it makes me all giddy, I dunno. This is a good short read and you should definitely read it after reading something really sad and heart wrenching!
12. CINDERWINGS
By bendingsignpost, 181,619 words
STOP!! I love this fic!! It’s a Cinderella type story, there’s a masquerade ball, Dean is a PRINCE. Very fantasy with supernatural elements. It’s WONDERFUL. The way the author writes about the world through Castiel’s perspective is super entertaining and funny and I love the misunderstandings that happen within the story. If you love fantasy and monarchy and magic and parties, this is definitely a fic for you.
13. ONE WHITE LIE
By komodobits, 11.179 words
I can’t lie, komodobits is my favorite fic author and so I am a little biased towards their stories. This one is no exception. It’s hilarious, lighthearted, and fluffy. The range that this author has with their fics amazes and horrifies me. How can one person have that much talent? I have no idea. This is just a komodobits appreciation post, you got me. Anywho, Castiel tells a small lie to the Winchester brothers and they mess with him. Not based in canon, a very slice-of-life fic. I love it, please check it out.
14. FORGET-ME-NOT BLUES
By noangelsinthegarrison, 68,689 words
Ahhh I remember this one. Another slice-of-life, have you noticed a pattern? Sam and Jess are getting married! Woohoo! Of course Dean is in the wedding but so is Castiel, someone Dean has history with……….. Basically there’s misunderstandings and mutual pining and it’s fun. It’s got all sorts of romcom elements with just a dash of angst!
15. MUSCLE MEMORY
By komodobits, 18,961 words
Give me a story that’s loosely based off of 50 First Dates and written by my favorite fic author and suddenly I’m in Heaven. I’m a really big fan of movie AU’s, especially well written and this one is no exception. It’s kind of sad though, but if you’ve seen 50 First Dates then you should expect that. Even if you aren’t a fan of movie AU’s, I would still suggest giving this one a read.
16. KIND OF A FOREVER DEAL
By komodobits, 111,460 words
STOP LOOKING AT ME. YOU THINK IM PUTTING TOO MANY FICS BY THE SAME AUTHOR HERE? WELL YOU LISTEN TO ME PAL, THIS WON’T BE THE LAST ONE EITHER!! Ahem, this fic is awesome and sort of a fan favorite already!! Slice-of-life, teenaged angst, summer camp, LoVe, it’s amazing! The way that the author wrote the friendship between Dean, Cas, Jo, and Victor has me in tears. Very wholesome and heart wrenching, highly recommend!
17. IMPERFECT PROPOSALS
By Fallen_Angel_Meg, 111,082 words
Another movie AU! This is loosely based off The Proposal and filled with fluff! You really don’t see a whole lot of crossover fics that are long like this one, but it’s fun to read and you’ll probably fly through it just like I did. Do you like The Proposal? No? Read it anyways xx
18. CHECKED OUT
By whelvenwinge, 27,127 words
Okay this one, is really good. Like really good. It comes complete with original artwork and fantastic storytelling. Castiel is a librarian and he really despises Dean Winchester, an acclaimed author. It’s sooooo good, I cannot stress enough how much I think you should read this. And you’ll get really pretty pictures to look at! The ending is great, the beginning is great, it’s just wonderful. So what are you waiting for? Run along now and read it!
19. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
By habitatfordeanwinchester, 2,593
This one is just cute. It’s short and fluffy. Imagine Castiel working at a Chipotle and getting special instructions on a mobile order. Can you guess who they’re from? If you’re sad and need a pick me up, just read this one. It’s so cute!
20. C-S-T-L
By komodobits, 90,377
It has been a really long time since I read this one. But I know that I loved every second of it and I was crying during the majority of it. Either because I had just got done reading 91w or because the story itself made me emotional. Either way it’s a fantastic read! Castiel is an android and Dean is tasked with adding him to their army for the WAR. This fic has wonderful world building, really in-depth character exploration, and the ANGST. I’m probably going to read this one again sometime soon~ JOIN MEEEEE

If you are a Jared or Sam fan please don’t read this. If you are a Jared or Sam fan and you leave a comment I will block you without reading it so don’t bother. The end of season 6 (ep 20, 21 and 22) seems like a turning point for Destiel to me. Maybe I’ve read too many gay fan fics but it just seems like their relationship changed in these eps. Like before this point they obviously had feelings for each other but they both thought it was a crush and they both thought it would go away. Then in these eps it feels like because of the storyline they both kinda accepted their own feeling but too afraid to say anything.
In The Man Who Would Be King (think that’s right) from the very beginning of the ep there was a difference in the boys.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They were lying to each other and couldn’t even look each other in the eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It looked like it was physically hurting Dean to lie to Cas and to even think that Cas was lying to him. He’s been lied to before usually by Sam and he gets pissed off but this isn’t a hurt by your brother look.
Tumblr media
If Cas is just a friend to both Dean and Sam why is it that Sam had no problem believing Cas could lie to them and go behind their backs (that to me isn’t even friend behaviour) yet Dean defended Cas. I find it funny that Cas and Dean think they are hiding their feelings yet Bobby and Sam had to question Dean to find out what he said to Cas so obviously they know what affect they have on each other and that it’s not just friendship.
“You’re distracted.” “I’m holding up my end.” “Yes but what else are you holding up. The stench of that impala is all over your over coat angel.” So Crowley thinks Cas and Dean are haveing sex in the car by the sounds of it. I just found this funny considering only a few eps before the angel told Dean Cas was in love with him.
The fact that Cas was loosing his mind yet he still had to protect Dean and yet again he protected Dean first before Bobby and Sam and there was a small pause before he said “my friend.” It was like he wasn’t sure what to call Dean. Even at the end when Dean called Cas his family I think it surprised him. As soon as Dean said family Cas looked shocked. I think sometimes in the season he thought Dean just called him because he needed help not for any other reason and then knowing Dean thinks of him as family really surprised him. I know Dean said Cas was like a brother to him but I think he just didn’t know how to express his feeling without actually saying the truth and that was the easiest thing to say.
The moment tho that for me it all changed was when Cas was in the oil fire. Dean told Cas to look his in the eyes. It sounded like I know Bobby and Sam are here too but how could you do this to me. I’m different from them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They both looked like they were trying not to cry. Both their eyes were glassy. Even Dean looking back at Cas before he left was emotional. He didn’t want to leave Cas in that fire. That whole scene to me was them admitting the truth to themselves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In ep 21 I can’t believe how emotional this scene was. Like all Dean said was that Cas and Crowley can kiss his ass. Cas looks so hurt and scared and Dean has to actually put his hand up to his mouth to stop from crying.
I find it interesting that this is when they choose to get Lisa and Ben out of Deans life. I’m happy that they finally did it but it’s just interesting timeing. They could’ve done it at any point but no they chose to do it during this very Destiel episode.
Tumblr media
I’ve heard that whenever Cas dies (which I’ve also heard is quite a few times) Dean gets depressed and suicidal. I guess in The New Boss was the beginning of it. I’m pretty sure drinking that much alcohol and watching Asian cartoon porn is considered depressed.
When Cas went to the church and the homophobic priest was trying to tell the people how god hates gay people and Cas says “your wrong. I’m utterly indifferent to sexual orientation.” They didn’t have to have the priest talk about gay people but they did. Then Cas confirming his opinion on it.
Then when they were trying to get death to kill Cas (I’m not convinced Dean would’ve let him actually do that) when death said there was more then just souls in Cas Dean looks worried for Cas. If he was willing to let death kill him he wouldn’t have been so worried.
Every time in these eps that Cas came it was always to talk to Dean never to talk to Sam. He didn’t care what Sam thought he just wanted Dean to understand what he was doing. Even when he thought he was going to die he was trying to make up with Dean. Bobby was in the room and Sam was in the building but it was Dean he wanted to make up with and it was Dean he said he was going to redeem himself to. He f*cked over a lot of people but he didn’t say I’m going to redeem myself to everyone or even you guys (as in Dean, Bobby and Sam). It was just Dean.
Last thing I think this was the first time I ever seen Dean choosing to save someone other than Sam first. When Dean went to get Sam and seen the jar of blood on the floor he had no idea what happened to Sam. Any other time he would’ve went back to Bobby with the blood and told Bobby to handle it so he could go find Sam but this time he chose to stay and save Cas. Even when those monsters took over Cas body Dean told Bobby to go get Sam. By the sounds of it he is starting to put Cas ahead of Sam. I like that.

hey this is a kinda crazy ask but can you just recommend some fics that changed your life or felt like they altered your brain chemistry?
Oh this is interesting and its taken me a lot of thinking.
Balance And New Beginnings - Hekate1308   Ao3
Set S12.  When he finds out that Sam as well as Mary are working for BMoL, Dean says goodbye and walks away, going to hunt with Cas.  Together with Crowley they start to develop a new way of hunting, which is only targeting the supernatural creatures who are causing harm and protecting the benign ones from the BMoL genocidal plans.
Word Count: 54k                              No Sex
I've recced this fic before, and its on my favourites list, but this fic has so much that has stuck with me in a 'Yes I want more of that!'. Between Dean being so unhappy that he leaves and the storyline that they start working with good monsters (which given they have supernatural allies the show plot of BMoL trying to recruit them makes zero sense to me)
Chuck’s Vision - TheWritingPrisoner AO3
Set S15ish and S12. Chuck wakes up Sam and Dean from a vision of a possible future. A future where because they all didn’t stick together Jack was able to manipulate people and events from his birth in order to become god. Chuck also takes the time to point out a few characters flaws in the Winchesters and how they should fix them.
Word Count: 13k                                              No Sex
If you've delved into this blog enough you'll know that I love the idea of Evil Jack and I think this is the fic that really cemented it for me. The nougat son is often too twee for me, but those people who are brave enough to dip their toes into writing Jack living up to his evil potential are my heroes and I hope to join them one day.
The First Thing There Is – bendingsignpost   Ao3
Set S14.  The first thing he feels as he wakes up is love, so Dean is confused that Cas is described as his best friend.  Cas has helped to lock Michael more securely in Dean’s mind and that has taken all Dean’s memories temporarily.  As the days go by Dean is sure that he loves Cas too so why aren’t they together?
Word Count: 5k                                 No Sex
I don't think I've been able to get this fic out of my head since the first time I read it. Amnesia fic often have that beautiful trope of the amnesia wiping away all the bullshit and just leaving the feelings and this does it perfectly.
together, for eternity. – breathingneon   Ao3
Nonspecific timeframe.  Dean was never aware, but his soul was almost constantly seeking contact with Cas, and the angel never failed to grip back.
Word Count: 3k                                 No Sex
Honestly I think this is one of the most beautiful ways of depicting souls and the way they interact with the world around them. I'm not sure anything else has come close.
The Only Thing I Care About - mattzerella_sticks  Ao3
Set S14.  Everyone is happy that Dean and Cas got together.  In fact they’re a little too happy and invested, which is making Dean feel really uncomfortable when everyone in his life is watching his relationship closely and feel they have the right to comment on it.
Word Count: 9k                 Non-Graphic Sex
A switcheroo is sometimes the best thing in the world, but it can also break your brain in a permanent way. This fic where everyone is overly invested in destiel now they got together changed the way I view shipping fics forever.

*not done with this, may or may not finish it, wanted to post anyway*
a little (nsfw) destiel fic set immediately after the events of 10x14 The Executioner’s Song
*************************************************
Cas doesn’t have to knock. He knows that.
Dean knows that too.
About two years ago, when they thought he was gonna move in, for a second, before Gadreel — before Dean — made that impossible, he’d allowed himself to fantasize about having a boyfriend who’s there when he comes home. Falls asleep in his bed in the middle of the day and stays there. Content to wait. Hold down the fort while he’s away.
For the first time, Cas actually wanted to stay. As a matter of fact, he had to. He was persona non grata among his family once again. All the hope of going back, being welcomed with open arms, slowly dying.
And, like all the other angels, his wings were gone. He couldn’t just fly away anymore.
But Dean liked to think it was more than that. More than just needing a place to stay. More than having nowhere else to go. More than losing his wings.
Cas had finally become human, and he wanted to stay.
He calls his name through the closed door — closed, not locked — and Dean says, “Yeah,” trying, the same way he did earlier in the kitchen with Sam, to conjure up some life.
But it comes out even more hopeless. Shaky, weak. His chances of fooling Cas are somehow even lower without Sam in the room.
With Sam, at least, it feels possible to pretend, despite how well he knows him — or thinks he knows him, sometimes. They at least have the courtesy to ignore each other’s falling apart until it becomes too much. Stay nestled in their usual roles for as long as they both can.
But Cas has his angel thing, his sixth sense that can see past any of Dean’s bullshit. See into his soul. Plunge through his skin — right through his skull — with just his eyes.
And then he’s also got that thing about his personality that won’t let him leave well enough alone. That’s how he knew about the mark in the first place. Dean had tried his best to avoid it, but all he’d really done was delay the inevitable. All he had to do was get one good look, and he was bound to, sooner or later.
Dean watches him walk in — see, Cas didn’t wait for permission. He didn’t have to, and he knew it. The knock was just a pretense, acknowledging the existence of boundaries, because he understands now that human beings have those.
But opening the door, walking in, it says what Cas always says. Su casa, mi casa.
Your body, my body.
That’s just how Heaven is. How Heaven raised him. He can’t be blamed.
There used to be a time when Dean was grateful for the familiarity.
Cas clears his throat awkwardly. A habit Dean thinks he picked up, maybe, from his recent time spent as a man, experiencing phlegm. No grace in him to burn it away. All those muscles he’d barely ever used. Barely knew were there. Suddenly activating.
“I can heal your injuries, if you want.”
Dean laughs before nodding. “Yeah, okay.” It’s still effortless, to laugh at Cas’s squint and head tilt combo, the way, for all his divine insight, he remains so befuddled — so easily distracted — by social interactions. Dean doesn’t have to try hard to deceive him as long as he can confuse him.
But right now, Cas seems completely focused on his task, advancing on the gash near Dean’s eyebrow with determination. He brushes a finger over it, and Dean feels his grace rushing in — but only so far. Only this one spot.
He intends to take his time. Split Dean into sections. Do him one by one.
When Dean opens his eyes, he sees a second of uncertainty. Not knowing where to go next. What part of Dean to touch.
What does it mean that he chose me over Crowley?
Dean had always intended to kiss him; he was simply biding his time. Now just makes sense, because Cas is between his legs, just barely pressing him back into the edge of the desk, one hand resting on his hip, the other hovering near his bruised jaw.
Dean kisses him, and Cas closes his eyes, seeming just as sure about this as he is (of course, Dean can never really tell, with Cas). Fingers ghosting along his jaw. Letting Dean lick his way into his mouth, push away his trenchcoat to run his hands along his sides. He can hear the soft ringing of Cas’s grace before he feels its warmth in his bones, filling the side of his face with light.
Dean pulls him close, and the mark wants him to tear his clothes off, throw him against the wall, bite his neck so hard—
“Sorry.” He pulls back, only as much as the desk and the wall and Cas’s hands allow.
Cas quickly looks away. Back to healing, like nothing ever happened. “You don’t have to apologize.”
He moves on to Dean’s screaming, nearly dislocated shoulder, hand hovering dangerously close to the imprint of his palm — now just a constellation of faded, moon shaped scars that most of Dean’s hookups ignore.
“I know that the mark can make you do things you don’t necessarily want to do.”
Like what? Running off with Crowley?
Making the first move, instead of waiting for you to do something like I always do?
“But you’re doing a great job at fighting it. I admire you, Dean.” He says it the way he once said, I don’t envy your position.
The mark wants Dean to kill him.
But maybe, for tonight, it’ll settle for fucking him senseless.
Cas closes his eyes, displeasure written on his face. Like there’s something not quite right about the injury, something that can better be addressed by sliding Dean’s flannel further down, slipping his hand under his t-shirt, taking Dean’s whole shoulder and gripping tight before he turns the light on again. Dean bites back a gasp, wanting nothing more than to give in entirely, open the floodgates of his soul and feel Castiel’s restored grace running through his whole body.
Getting fucked senseless might be just as good.
He buries his face in Cas’s chest and lets out a small back of the throat whine. Presses his lips into the linen that always smells like the last time Jimmy Novak was in it. Detergent and sweat and fear and blood. He takes the breast pocket between his teeth as Cas squeezes tighter, and the grace feels almost uncomfortably hot, and then perfectly cool. Feels like if being set on fire was a good thing.
Feels like a part of him returning — like his body slowly reaching dynamic equilibrium, things falling into place with ease.
Like coming home.
He must seem like a wild animal to him. A panting, salivating, hot mess. Bleeding knuckles and broken fingers. Something less evolved.
All the times they fucked or messed around, it was never like this. Dean liked — likes to be clean, and he liked to treat Cas — all powerful angel Cas, who made Crowley his bitch and turned himself into God — gently. Easily broken Cas. Angel statuette, Cas.
Dean liked uncreating him, watching him regress from something made of marble to soft wet clay. From heaven’s soldier to something like a man. He liked to think they’d have time to work their way up to the kind of wild, ruthless sex he’d had with Emma’s mom, when he was trying to move on. Or with Crowley.
“Sorry,” Dean says again, just as the light leaves Cas’s hand. He pulls away, and Dean finds his shoulder is moveable again, even better than before.
“Why do you keep saying that?”
Dean sighs and closes his eyes, cringing. But he has to say it anyway, no matter how pathetic. “Just — uh. I’m sure you don’t wanna have to touch me… like this.”
He opens his eyes to check — and Good, he thinks. It hurt the way it was designed to.
“Dean-” He sighs, looking down. Neither of them willing to face the thing head on.
But Cas surprises him, taking him by the arm. The mark sings under his palm, burning with a different kind of pain than the rest of his yet-to-be-healed body. An unbearable kind of pain. It never stops. It begs to be able to stop.
He doesn’t have to say it. If I could heal this with my grace, I would.
Dean says, “I know, Cas. I know.”
Cas lifts his chin and kisses him again in a way that quickly becomes voracious. It’s possible he thinks this is the only way Dean wants to be kissed now. The only reason Dean would want to be kissed by him.
Dean can taste the wrath of Heaven on his tongue. Then he can taste the grace. Like everything with Cas, it’s familiar. Although, technically, even this belongs to someone else. And now Dean’s soul is marred by someone else’s touch, his latest resurrection owed to a different force. Both of them a mutating patchwork of borrowed things. Less and less like who they were when they first met.
Still, this reminds Dean of being reborn.
It pains him to ask, between kissing and healing, “You don’t have anywhere to be tonight do you?” He knows the answer is no — Cas isn’t interested in anything anymore besides getting rid of the mark — but he’s remembering the last time he had him alone in this room. What he means is, There’s no one waiting for you, right?
No “females” outside, riding shotgun in Cas’s crappy pimp mobile.
He feels a flare of jealousy — an inferno really — at the memory of Hannah and the way she looked at him. His whole cult of angelic Cas-worshippers, at his beck and call, before his loyalty to Dean frightened them away.
Metatron’s rotating cast of suicide bombers, including Tessa — the first monster that Dean almost gave his life to, years before he knew what it was to have someone to live for — before someone like Cas appeared, who’d decided that his survival wasn’t contingent on Dean’s death. Who would’ve died before letting anything touch him. Who would put him first — before Sam. Before the world. Even before Heaven.
The whole cult episode reminded him just how common it was to kneel and pray to Castiel. How common he was — they all were. Weak to his persuasion. Not just humans. Not just demons. Other angels — even reapers. Sheep, to him. God’s Chosen.
At the time, when the mark was still fresh and its effects still unexpected, the moment brought back every ugly thing that had passed between them. Everything Dean had already forgiven. All of the worst things about loving Cas.
“No,” the angel says calmly. “The only place I need to be is here… As long as this is where you want me.”
Hope in his eyes. It would be so easy to snuff it out.
If what Cain said is true, there will come a day when Dean won’t hesitate.
“You already know I want you here.”
He proves it. Cas lets him for a moment, then he pulls away.
“You’re still hurt.”
“So you’re saying you don’t-”
“I’m saying, let me finish what I’m doing. Then you can — ravish me to your heart’s desire.”
Dean laughs. “Fine.”
While Cas works on his knee, Dean looks at his own half-bare arms, flannel bunching at his elbows where Cas pushed it down. He clears his throat loudly. “Do you need me to take off my clothes?”
He adds a “Doctor?” for good measure, purring the word in Cas’s ear.
At first he smiles, and then there’s a brief flash of pain — thinking, again, about what he can’t heal. But the look becomes determination.
“Yes, that would be helpful. Thank you.”
“I should be the one thanking you,” Dean says as he lets it fall. Cas’s eyes rake over him — lingering for maybe a second on the mark, but then the rest of him too. His skin, speckled with little bruises. Cuts and abrasions. The tightness of his t-shirt, which hides even more than it reveals.
“Well… this is just a routine checkup, so there’s really no need.”
Dean sighs so quiet that Cas doesn’t catch it. You’re supposed to be, like, saving my life or something, he moans internally. But he decides to just roll with the weak improvisation, at the same time that Cas says, “You can keep this on for now,” taking his time to look up from Dean’s chest, just enough to meet his eyes.
It still gives him goosebumps, being checked out like that.
Big difference between him and Crowley — Crowley made Dean feel wanted, yeah. Sexy even. But Cas makes him feel beautiful.
This time when Cas kisses him, it’s better. Soft, not full of fire. But like a first kiss between strangers who are only just discovering how much they like each other.
Dean answers with his eyes closed, half out of character. “Well you’re not supposed to do that.”
“I apologize,” he says, becoming shy. “I don’t know what came over me… I suppose I uh, I find it difficult to focus on doing my job properly in the presence of someone I find so… alluring.” His eyes flutter open just as Cas leans back. “But you’re right. That was completely unprofessional, and it won’t happen again. You’re owed the same high level of care as all my other patients… Of course I understand if you’d prefer to be seen by someone else.”
Dean swallows the lump in his throat, straightening his back and gripping the desk with one hand, running the other through his hair. Here’s a chance to add some texture to the story. “Uuhm, well, honestly, Doctor — even though I can and probably should report this behavior to your bosses, I think I’m willing to look past this little slip, because…” He bites his lip while he thinks of something workable and not too cliche, leaning into the nervous patient thing, maybe in over his head but still determined to get what he came for. “Well, even though this is just a routine check up, I’ve heard about… how good you are at taking care of people. I guess I wanted at least one chance to see for myself how you’d, uh, handle a case like me.”
Cas blinks. “A case like you…? From what I saw on your chart, you don’t have any pre-existing conditions — is there something bothering you, mis-”
“Maybe you can figure out what it is.”
Cas nods. “Maybe we should continue the examination.”
“Uh-huh. You said keep on the shirt, right? So pants and shoes.” Cas steps back to let him swing his leg up onto the desk, watches him lift the leg of his jeans and unlace his leather boots.
He kicks that one off and does the other, and when he’s done Cas says, “Very good. While you were removing your shoes, I noticed that you had some difficulty bending your limbs.” He takes his spot again, between Dean legs, laying a hand on each thigh. “Are you experiencing any pain — or swelling? Are your pants unusually tight?”
“…Yeah actually. Can you-”
Cas looks him in the eye as he undoes his belt, takes it by the silver buckle and pulls it free, lays it aside and within reach. He tugs the button roughly before he unfastens it, but unzipping the fly is so gentle, quick and precise Dean’s not even sure when it’s done. “Lift your butt off the table so I can pull down your pants.” Dean is quick to obey, watching as Cas kneels down, bringing them to Dean’s ankles, then taking his feet and guiding them out one at a time.
He stays there, observing his legs with furrowed brows. “Well, the source of the swelling is… very apparent, but you’ve got a lot of scrapes and bruises on your legs. You must be very clumsy.”
“Oh yeah,” Dean agrees. “The clumsiest.”
“That’s unfortunate. You don’t deserve to get hurt so often. What do you do for work?”
He cycles through a handful of easy responses. Cocktail waitress, stripper, prostitute. Construction worker, lion tamer, stuntman. “Uh… I’m a body double. Like in movies. One of those guys who gets set on fire or falls off a motorcycle or, uh, shows his ass when the actor doesn’t want to. Last movie I did — bondage stuff.”
“I see. Well, if you’re interested, I can give you something now to address these scars. It’s an experimental method of treatment. And I promise it has nothing to do with… what happened earlier, or my personal feelings. But it does require me to use my mouth.”
Dean’s eyebrows fly so high they might as well grow wings of their own. He coughs to cover up choking. “Okay… I trust you. Do…” Deep breath. “Whatever you think is best.”
Cas says nothing, barely nods, shifting so that he’s on his knees. Dean stiffens reflexively as he leans close, warming his thigh with his even, barely-there breaths.
Dean gasps as the breath travels down to his shin. Cas lowers his sock, and Dean watches his mouth glow from within.
He just barely presses these soft bright lips to Dean’s tender skin, healing the sprain underneath. And then slowly trailing his healing kisses up. Excruciatingly slow.
Torn calf muscle, scraped knee. He puts a hand around the back of it to steady himself, and Dean wraps his other leg around him on instinct. “Fuck — sorry,” he says, but Cas is too busy to give him a response. Too focused on doing his job. By the time he reaches the inner thigh, Dean is trembling, hissing, “Cascascas — stop.” He waves a hand in his face to get his attention, then lets it fall limply onto the desk.
“You gotta slow down. You’re kinda driving me nuts.”
“Oh… I’m sorry.” And his prideful little smirk isn’t helping, especially not while he’s wearing Dean’s leg like a sash. “I thought this was an efficient way to achieve our shared goals.”
“Yeah. Maybe a little too efficient.”
“You mean you want this to take long?” Dean nods — duh. “That’s good. So do I.”
Goddammit…
“Okay… then you better get the Hell up… and maybe don’t talk as much.”
“I thought you wanted me to be more communicative.”
He rolls his eyes openly. Cas really isn’t making this any easier.
“That was last time.” Cas was human then — Dean thought he should probably be trained — and they were in the backseat of Baby, a few blocks away from the Gas n Sip.
He tries not to think about it.
He has to look away as Cas slowly rises to his feet, and he sighs, squeezing his eyes shut as soon as the hand around his leg tightens, and the other grabs his thigh to hoist Cas’s body up the rest of the way.
Oh my God, Dean mouths. It’s been too long, and he wants Cas too much. Even the mark can’t erase that constant longing. The mark just makes it hurt.
Cas heals his other leg without telling him. This one is almost like a slap in the face. The kind that wakes you up. Sends a jolt through his whole body.
“If your problem right now, Dean, is that you’re too attracted to me, I’m really not sure how we can fix it. Should we tone it down with the doctor stuff? Or… maybe you should just not look at me? I don’t know.”
“Didn’t I say don’t talk?” he nearly begs.
Cas goes quiet, looking down at Dean’s burden, straining to be freed. “You know,” he says, taking pleasure in his own disobedience, meeting Dean’s eyes with an intense gaze, something teasing underneath, “we could just bring you to orgasm now. I’m sure I could help you become erect again relatively quickly.”
Now it’s Dean’s turn to be quiet — a pause that only lasts about half as long as Cas’s before he says, “Yeah okay.”
He’s about 75% sure that Cas has worked some magic to make the minutes feel like hours — if they were minutes at all. All he knows is that time doesn’t exist. All there is is Cas’s middle finger still inside him. Still with its rhythmic pulse. The thumb of his other hand gently coaxing out the last of a never-ending orgasm, so intense there’s an element of pain that reminds Dean of being shocked. Muscles tensing. Holding his breath.
His command, when he decides that it’s over — when he knows that Dean is too calm, too soft and content to do much, other than what he’s told — other than whatever will make Cas happy — when he’s certain that the mark hasn’t taken that from him yet — “Why don’t you remove your shirt and wait for me on the bed.”
He lets him go, weak and tingling. Wobbly deer legs take him just far enough to safely collapse.
For a while Cas comes in and out of view — Dean assumes he’s cleaning up their mess, and maybe fixing the laptop that they knocked to the floor — but he leans down to tug on Dean’s shirt.
“Dean. I asked you to take this off.”
“Shit, sorry, my bad,” he says as he pulls it up over his head and tosses it away. He lays down on his belly and closes his eyes. He could fall asleep here, like this, knowing that Cas is close and busy.
The mark wants Dean to kill him, but he can hardly hear it over the ringing in his ears. Church bells.
“Are you healing me again?”
Cas gives an affirmative grunt, and Dean starts rolling his eyes, but it feels too nice, and Cas predicts the thing that makes it even better, swinging a leg over to trap Dean under him.
His fingers trace down his back, following the arrow of his spine.
“When I first met you, you had so many scars here,” he says unexpectedly.
Dean frowns — when they first met, he was as unblemished as a newborn. Then he realizes that Cas is talking about Hell, or his grave. Dean’s corpse, or whatever he was before Cas saved him. Something out of The Walking Dead. “I’d never seen a human being who had suffered so many assaults.”
Dean’s not sure why he laughs. “Bullshit.”
“Well I mean… up close. I'd spent a lot of time — watching humanity. But…” It’s no longer about healing; he’s rubbing up and down his back absentmindedly, coveting the pleasing sound Dean makes when he finds his way to the back of his head, takes a fistful of hair and gives it a gentle tug. Ruffles his hair and smooths it down, and in the process pushing the side of his face down into the bed, softly kneading the aching muscles at the base of his skull.
“My first vessel… she’d never gotten hurt before, physically. Not even so much as a broken arm.
“She was her father’s prized possession. But when the family fell on hard times, he was willing to sell her into a marriage with a man who he called his friend. So she turned to God for help.
“And when He didn’t answer, she considered joining a convent. She was about to, before I…”
“Got her killed?”
“No, I… After our final mission together, I reported back to Anna, alone. I said that I had been ambushed and lost my vessel in the process…”
“… You told her to run, didn’t you?”
He chuckles quietly. “For years, I was convinced that Anna knew. Just… waiting for the punishment I was certain I had earned. But it never came…” Cas shrugs.
“Or maybe it did. I mean, for all I know, they reprogrammed me right after, and allowed me to believe I was… improving on my own.”
Improving on my own.
Dean remembers the Castiel that raised him from perdition. Tried to talk to him twice — but for some reason, Dean wasn’t one of those special people who could hear what he had to say.
They all — Dean, Sam, Bobby, Pamela — forced Cas to appear, and burned Pamela’s eyes out in the process. Of course, Dean is more to blame for that than anyone.
He wonders now, not for the first time, if Cas could’ve left Jimmy and his family out of it — if only Dean hadn’t been so desperate to see him. To know who and what he was and why he wanted Dean bad enough to defy nature. To prove it to himself.
If Dean had just left well enough alone — if he wasn’t always so fucking needy — would Cas have ever knocked on the Novaks’ door? Would he have chosen some other vessel — some other family from a list of alternates? Would he have returned to the battlefield at all?
“Are you falling asleep?” Cas asks him.
“Well no need to sound so hopeful.”
“No — it’s not — I just mean… It’s a good sign, for you to be feeling tired. It means you’re still functioning normally.”
“Yeah,” he answers shakily. “It is good, isn’t it?”
“But,” Dean adds a moment later, “I don’t wanna be one of those guys who only cares about himself.”
“You could never be.”
He turns onto his back, laughing and groaning at the same time. “I mean, what about you, Cas?”
He waggles his brows suggestively, and Cas laughs and hides his face. It’s the most human he’s ever looked.
When he meets his gaze his eyes are heavy with lust, the humor slowly fading. “I understand what you’re saying… But your condition-”
“I wanna feel normal as long as I can, Cas.” God. It makes him sound terminal.
In a way, he is.
“And if normal looks like getting dicked down by an angel who kinda sucks at roleplay, I think I can live with that.”
“… I don’t suck.”
“Yeah you do. Little bit. Come on, admit it.”
Cas rolls his eyes. “I will not.”

Hmmm...things to ponder/pass the time... How about:
Who would win in a staring contest between Din and Cas?
In your Skywalker Hunters AU, will there be DinLuke, and if so does that mean Grogu will be their Jack? Who is Han going to be? Will Cal/Ezra/Ahsoka/etc make an appearance as a fellow hunter? (Presuming none of this is spoilers, ofc)
Any other AUs of either title/franchise you've ever been tempted to explore but haven't yet?
1. If we are talking about both characters playing by the rules of their own canon then I'd say Cas would win - I am a firm believer in that the angels don't actually need to blink or breathe or anything like that but we see them do so simply because they are trying to put humans at ease so it becomes a force of habit - plus he just has lots of practice from staring at Dean lol - but if we're going on like an even playing field ,,, I do think Cas would still win JUST because I feel Din would be too used to wearing his helmet and armour and like ,,, subconsciously forget and blink
2. Yes! There will be Dinluke in my Skywalker Hunters AU! I do have big plans for this fic and in my mind I'm already planning it out like a series so the Dinluke aspect wont come until a little later (the second part probably, if my mental spreadsheet is correct lol) because like canon Supernatural I do intend to have the beginning focus on Luke and Leia and their sibling dynamic moreso than any romantic aspects BUT that being said I do plan to have both Hanleia and Dinluke in the fic because I love both ships too dearly to not to THAT ALSO BEING SAID not a spoiler cause I just kind of mentioned it already. Still, I do plan to have Han in the fic as well, what role he will be playing shall remain a secret - still, I will say that he's a fellow hunter (and that I may be forging my own trails a bit when it comes to certain characters and plotlines,,, gotta keep things fresh, ya know?) - as well as Grogu, his character is definatly going to show up. You're on the mark with him being a Jack parallel! As for any other characters, I don't have any solid plans - most likely the other Jedi will show up as hunters because it just fits so well, but reading your ask I did get the, admittedly crack-ish, idea for Cal and Ezra to show up as the Ghostfacers ahfabkff
3. Yes as well! I've been wanting to dip my toe into the Destiel/Supernatural fic scene for a while now and just haven't really gotten the confidence to do so - and once I do I think I'll probably start with some canon-setting fics first- but I've been dreaming up AUs for a while and one that I keep coming back to is a Professional Wrestling AU! I love wrestling and the idea started as a loose Dinluke idea, but now I think it fits Supernatural/Destiel a lot better I feel - like okay just imagine Dean and Sam being these legacy wrestling sons of pros John and Mary who helped build the popularity of Total Federation Wrestling, or TFW (see what I did there? lol), back in the 70s/80s until the company became the biggest name in wrestling and how Dean and Sam would have started wrestling young and have been brought up in the business and in the squared circle and on tv and how they'd develop their characters to be a tag-team act together, but once Sam quits to go to college Dean starts his solo career as the playboy babyface who rules the ring but all the while he's feeling stuck and looking for something more - something real and not kayfabe - aaaaand that's where i'll leave that because a) i haven't decided if Cas in this AU would be another wrestler from a different company who they bring on because they want Dean to have a heel turn and need a new top babyface OR if he would be the doctor who Dean meets after a botched match and b) this is getting too long lol

i just read broken road and i enjoyed it immensely. i just see it differently (not exactly negatively) now knowing you once(?) shipped sam and dean. does that have any influence into it🤔 just simply wondering not interrogating u. i’m interested in that essay even
(prev ask)
ok, my essay is under the cut. it's very, very long. everybody please consider this your warning for inc*st ships if you'd rather not get into it
first point: actually, broken road was not in any way secretly influenced by any previous love of sam/dean, if that helps you any. i wrote it in post november 5th mode and you better believe i was not remotely capable of thinking about anything else. thank you for enjoying it! it's very very special to me and the time i spent working on it and posting it are genuinely some of my fondest memories. cringe <3
second point: to just honestly answer your question, since you're not interrogating me and not being an asshole (thank you and i'm not saying that sarcastically, i have gotten sooo many rude asks about this), my answer is, "eh." my favorite was sam/dean/cas (once he started being on the show) because i'm a cas girl first and foremost. and if i come across a fic where the premise looks good i might check it out, but i basically never actively seek it out bc my preference rn is strongly for destiel.
(that said i do like sam and dean's relationship a lot as brothers or as...whatever else, i'm mostly neutral as long as we don't leave cas out of things, AND i'm perpetually bitter about sam getting left out in the cold, so if i wanna read good sam fic, sometimes people who ship him with the other main characters will do a better job than making him the perpetual longsuffering butt of the slash joke. same goes for early seasons spn fic: sometimes the sam/dean writers just do a better job. i very rarely get the hankering though because i like late seasons, such as season 13, who is my best friend. i think sam got pushed to the side SO STRONGLY that sometimes people sometimes subconsciously associate him being written well or mattering at all to dean beyond functioning as dean's accessory and/or proof/the catalyst of dean's traumatic upbringing with w*ncest. because otherwise they see him as a minor character (?!?!), and why are you bringing this minor character up so much if you're not secretly shipping him with dean, The Main Character? god, does anybody remember when SAM was the main character?? sorry there is truly not enough punctuation in this paragraph.)
now for the actual essay: i do get a little irritated/confused with how much pearl-clutching people do about sam/dean. like, this is EASILY the most harmless of the "problematic" ships. they're consenting adults, barring some tropes and genres i would not like to read nor discuss. and before cas came into the scene (and sometimes even after) we got baited just as hard for the two of them. it was weird and unsettling because the nature of inc*st is that it's often weird and unsettling. their dynamic is unhealthy and codependent and that's part of their appeal in whatever form. people who get the heebie jeebies because it's "problematic" are missing the point. there are also weird and unsettling vibes between dean and john, because that was part of the abuse. that actually played into broken road way more than any sam/dean stuff. he was a bad father and he made dean his backup wife and there was probably some emotional inc*st happening CANONICALLY. we all watched that in the show right?? but for some reason talking about that is fine and talking about whatever sam and dean have going on gets you put on block lists. because sometimes sam/dean fics are just for fun and whenever we talk about john we have people in fics punching him out or killing him. like we have to point our fingers at john and go "THAT'S BAD" loudly enough to ensure everyone else that we're above moral criticism. it's like. weirdly thought police-y. (and tbh, that's part of what inspired broken road - i was looking for nuance re: john and couldn't fucking find any because of this weird black-and-white mentality fandom has developed.)
and it's so hypocritical sometimes! i remember deancas stuff used to have "w*ncest fans dni" banners all over it, in the guise of protecting and standing with survivors, but when actual survivors would say things like "actually those banners just remind me of everything all over again" they would mostly get ignored?? it was so performative, like this kneejerk reaction of promising everybody YOU know what's bad so you won't get ostracized. my tastes don't usually run very dark so most of the sam/dean i wrote or read was way less unhealthy than, say, whatever lestat and louis have going on in iwtv. but nobody's making blocklists of iwtv enjoyers because that would be insane? there's just a little bit of cognitive dissonance happening i think.
like, obviously, yes, in real life inc*st pretty much always speaks to something having gone extremely wrong in someone's life and a dynamic being extremely unhealthy at best, but in fiction it is possible for it to be consensual, even if it is a little fucked up or the people involved are a little damaged.
(warning for discussion of rape fic from here down) i'm not actually totally anti-censorship though. i do firmly believe there are some types of fiction people shouldn't write! i wouldn't read parent/child anything, or any kind of rape fic unless it's tastefully engaging with the aftermath of something like that. sam/dean just seems so, so tame to me in comparison to some of the other stuff fandom has come up with. in 2014-2016 people used to write a thing called hydra trash party, which was just porn of bucky barnes being gang-raped by hydra agents. ie nazis. and half the time he was headcanoned as jewish. like??? can you even GET more tasteless than that??? i hated that shit (and i still do, deeply). i talked about how much i hated it all the time and people would come after me like "well who are YOU to censor other people? what if the authors are survivors working through their own trauma? you can't ask authors to disclose that kinda stuff if they want a license to write graphic nazi rape porn!" i got literal hate mail about it. equal but opposite energy of those dni banners - both people claiming it was "about survivors" to justify doing, uh, whatever they wanted. it's just fucking wild to me that in less than a decade my stance of "i don't care what people write if everybody is a CONSENTING ADULT," while not changing at all whatsoever, moved from being too prudish to being too problematic.
another side tangent (sorry, you did ask) is that i was a slash writer on FFN in the video game and anime fandoms during the late 00s (ironically, quite a lot of straight men there) and holy mother of god...the kind of shit comments i would get for putting two dudes kissing in the same fic, even though it was PLASTERED with disclaimers. i felt like the mob was after me sometimes lol. and that's sort of the way i felt once those w*ncest asks started. i remember back in the peak of post nov 5 stuff if i like, reblogged art or gifs from certain blogs people would write in to tell me that person was a sam/dean shipper so i'd take down my (gen, non sam/dean) post. i felt paranoid (and still feel paranoid) reblogging GEN sam & dean content because i'm worried people will take it the wrong way. i actually deleted one from my drafts earlier today - i'd been thinking about it but then i got your ask and decided against it, lol. what a way to live! especially in fandom, which is (and i hate to politicize it this way but it's true) a queer-adjacent space that's supposed to be free of the kind of judgment you'd get for not being a normie irl.
on FFN, one of the many pairings i wrote for actually involved an underaged teenager and and an adult. but as i was the same age as that teenager at the time, and had a crush on that adult character and toootally wanted to marry him, i couldn't see what was wrong with pairing them together. like i quite literally did not know better. it's a pairing that actually disgusts me now, lol. if people now could send me asks about what i did back then to try and "gotcha" me (they can't because it's all been deleted) i'd be really pissed about it, because you can't continue to punish people after they've learned and grown. everyone's been so terribly kind about broken road, and there's this real fear of losing or tainting something so special and wonderful just because people have a problem with the fics you read or wrote a decade ago. it sucks. i do think there's a line (like, maybe don't write nazi rape porn, also whatever was going on with that j2 haiti fic), but i also think we've got to try at least a little not to reinvent puritanism on fandom websites of all places. that's wack.
and man, i know i said it already, but i just keep coming back to w*ncest being SO TAME? like it doesn't compute that someone would get icked out over CONSENSUAL sam/dean and meanwhile ship for example rowena/ketch like he didn't torture her or sam/lucifer because they like mark pellegrino like lucifer isn't sam's fucking rapist. and not even get "in trouble" for it. it boggles the mind.
and like, idk. i initially got my hackles up at your ask because it's 1 of a million, and i could dodge the questions by taking down the one sam/dean/cas fic on my profile ig, but that fic is how i met a good friend of mine and she'd be sad if i were to take it down, so i don't want to have to, and i shouldn't have to. you know??
my final thought: i've been writing fanfic for 20 years. 20 years ago when i started writing fic sam/dean would have been unacceptable because it's two men. 10 years ago it was fine because they were the ONLY two men, and every woman in supernatural got bullied off of the show, and people writing het got hatemail. now it's unacceptable again because of the inc*st. 10 years from now, who knows what will happen? so i try to base my morals on what i feel i can live with as a person rather than what a bunch of people on the internet (i'm not including you in that) tell me what i can or can't do, or should or shouldn't do.
i really hope this answer doesn't like, ruin broken road for you, or anyone else. i don't think of myself As A W*ncest Shipper at all, but neither do i deny that i used to be, and i certainly don't have any problem with (again) keyword CONSENTING keyword ADULTS in fanfic now, even if they do happen to be siblings ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i just hope that like someday we find a middle ground where we can live and let live but also have enough sense not to write nazi erotica. if that's problematic of me, so be it 😔✊

all the time in the world
1289 words | rated T | destiel anniversary fluff
summary:
In the aftermath of the events of one working part, Dean and Cas take a road trip. Neither of them really wants it to end. And they realize it doesn't really have to.
It's been 15 years, and about time they got to celebrate! This is technically coda fic for one working part, but you don't need to read that to enjoy this little snippet of fluff.
read it on ao3, or below the cut
The morning after Cas came back, Dean just drove. The reality of their new lives had really begun to sink in. As they headed toward the bunker, after stopping for lunch at a Kansas City style barbecue place, Dean decided to use their self-appointed time off to introduce Cas to the wide variety of barbecue the vast and varied United States had to offer.
“It won’t take long to detour to Memphis,” Dean had said while they were still at the table. “Beale Street, home of the blues and pork ribs. You’ll love it.”
“But we just ate barbecue, Dean,” Cas replied. “Is it really necessary to drive across three states for more? Isn’t this sufficient?”
Dean looked at Cas in horror for a second, and then shook his head slowly. “See, this is why we need a barbecue road trip. Gotta train up those new human taste buds. I can’t have you spending the rest of your life thinking all barbecue is the same.”
Cas had reluctantly accepted that. Mostly he was just glad to be with Dean, no matter what they were doing. And the idea of a long road trip just for fun, not running into danger or looking for things to hunt or fighting against cosmic forces sounded pleasant, regardless of what they were doing. He also admitted that first barbecue dinner had been delicious, and he wouldn’t mind having it again. He looked across the table at Dean, and smiled.
“Thank you, Dean. Of course I’m happy to go wherever you’d like to take me.”
Dean had gone all pink and flustered across the table at that, and that was also something Cas didn’t mind in the least. In a matter of days he’d gone from firmly believing that he could never have what he truly wanted to being given more than he’d ever even dared to hope for. Not just Dean, but an end to the constant struggle to stay ahead of the forces intent on destroying the universe. For the first time in his long existence, he had time. Time to explore and enjoy the creation he’d stood above for eons, to partake of its wonders instead of invisibly standing guard over them. And Dean was eager and overjoyed to share it all with him.
After Memphis, Dean insisted they needed to head to North Carolina. They swung down through Louisiana and into Texas toward the end of the week. Over brisket while a local band played outside a brewery in the hill country outside Austin, Dean sat staring off into the distance at another group of people smiling and laughing together.
“Is something wrong, Dean?” Cas asked after a few minutes. “You’re not finishing your lunch.”
Dean shook himself off and gave Cas a warm smile. “I was just thinking we should probably be heading home soon.”
Cas nodded at this. “Yes. This has been fun and enlightening, but Sam might be starting to worry about us.”
Dean laughed. “Maybe. But I’m also thinking some of your returned souls might start showing up. Don’t wanna leave the homestead all locked up if anyone needs a refuge, you know?”
“Possibly,” Cas replied.
They’d already heard from Rowena and Crowley, who’d both eagerly taken the deal Cas's spell had offered them. Dean had been worried the two of them would just end up killing each other again, but apparently they’d instead decided to go into business together. So far he’d been reluctant to discover exactly what sort of business the two of them would concoct together, but at least he wasn’t worried about having to clean up another messy murder scene at Rowena’s place. He didn’t necessarily expect to hear from anyone else, but everyone who might reach out already knew where they lived. As long as Sam was there, at least they’d find a warm welcome. Something else was bothering Dean.
“Are you already bored of traveling with me?” he joked, hoping to lighten Dean’s mood.
“What? Never!” Dean insisted, reaching across the table to rest a hand on Cas’s. He stared down at their impulsively joined hands and slowly looked up to Cas’s warm smile with one of his own. “It’s just… it’s almost our anniversary, you know? The day we met, the day you pulled me outta Hell. Kinda feels like we should do something special.”
Cas frowned at that. “Anniversary? I never really thought about it like that before.”
“Yeah, well there’s always been a lot of other shit going on. Even after I started liking you enough to stop thinking of it as the day I had to dig myself out of my own grave and started thinking of it as the day we met, there was never really much time to stop and grab a Hallmark card about it. I just figured, we got time for celebrating stuff like that now.”
“That sounds lovely, Dean,” Cas replied, grateful to know that nothing was truly bothering Dean. He wasn’t actually upset about anything, but he still looked as confused as Cas felt. “What do people even do to celebrate that sort of thing?”
“What,” Dean replied absently. “Rescuing some dude from Hell? I don’t think a lot of other people got that sort of anniversary to celebrate.”
Cas grinned. “That’s true, but people celebrate many similar annual events.”
Dean finished off his brisket and then stood up with Cas to walk back to the car. They weren’t in a hurry, but they were ready to move on again. As they headed out on the road, Dean gave Cas a considering look.
“We could take another road trip. There’s a lot of other important human knowledge we gotta explore.”
Cas considered that for a moment, and then remembered where he’d first met Dean face to face. It seemed as logical a destination as any for an anniversary road trip.
“We could go to Pontiac, Illinois. The barn where you met me is still standing. Or was, a few months ago when I last checked on it.”
Dean turned to look at him so fast the car jolted to the side before he managed to correct it. “Dude, you checked on it?”
Cas gave a little shrug, wondering if maybe he’d overstepped some sort of boundary he hadn’t known existed. Maybe he needed to justify his actions to Dean.
“I used to visit there frequently. When I could still fly, it was a safe sanctuary. You warded it very well against almost everything other than angels. And after I fell and became human, I added more warding. It’s hidden from almost everyone and everything else, except for us. I made sure that you’d always be able to find it again, too. If you ever felt the need for a sanctuary.”
“What?” Dean asked, genuinely surprised by all of this. “You turned the place I stabbed you in the heart into a safe space?”
Cas shrugged. “It seemed metaphorically appropriate at the time.”
Dean reached across the seat and took his hand, squeezing it tight. He was clearly overcome with emotions that Cas was just beginning to understand. He squeezed back and smiled as Dean took a few deep breaths, intently focused on the road. Eventually, Dean cleared his throat, and then smiled at him.
“You know, we did the barbecue tour. We should probably do a pizza tour. Chicago’s not far from Pontiac, and you gotta try a deep dish.”
Cas smiled back, relieved, and let Dean deflect his feelings for the time being. They’d have plenty of time to talk through all their emotions. He could let Dean plan it all for the future for now.
“That sounds wonderful, Dean,” he replied. Because they had time for everything now.

Words Unsaid (series) by @iprobablyshipit91
It's a great Royal AU with a princess reader and her friend and fencing partner, Dean Winchester. She's down to earth and kickass, far from a princess locked away in a tower. Great writing and really interesting about what might happen next!
~*~*~
Nominated by @mrswhozeewhatsis
Now and Then (series) by @thinkinghardhardlythinking
I love me some angst and pining and this series DEFINITELY delivers!! If cheating is a trigger for you, then this is not for you, but that's about the only warning I could give. Wanna long for something you can't have? Then read this fic!
Collared (series) by @spnexploration
I've nominated this series before, and I have to nominate it again, because it's getting into the really hard parts, now. They've gotten the collar off of her, and she has to deal with the mental issues that result from everything she's gone through. And there are SO MANY. And no therapists for victims of supernatural assault! Reading how she's trying to work through everything is fascinating!!
28 Days (series) by @thoughtslikeaminefield
Apparently, I'm just into angsty series this month where people have to deal with their shit, because here's another one I'm loving! The cast of characters in this is impressing me more and more as it goes along, too. And poor Dean!! I can't wait to see where this goes!
Handle Me by @icecream-and-gadreel
Breaking my angsty streak here with a Destiel AU that is smutty as all get out! Noodle is back and she hasn't lost a step with her writing!
~*~*~
Nominated by @iprobablyshipit91
Pack (series) by @spnexploration
This series is just starting and it’s already shaping up to be a major comfort fic for me. Dean is so caring and protective already and always leaves me wanting more. There’s also Madison who is the best addition to this story!
Limelight (series) by @talesmaniac89
I love the social media aspect and how this story is told. The different dates the reader goes on with different guys from the series are hilarious and the interactions with Dean are super sweet! I can’t wait to read more
Love On The Brain by @waynes-multiverse
This one shot was just so funny. From Sam scheming, to them running into each other naked, to them just going for it and then finally Sam walking back in. Brilliant!
Last Time? by @smellingofpoetry
This was just really hot. I loved how sassy the reader was at the end when she listed off how many times they’d been together despite it being the last time

Dean's Demise in Flower Pics by @cloverhighfive
I didn't think I would find a lot of new stories with the last Fishing for (smutty) treasure weekend. But I still did found some cool and different ones, like this one! It's a visual story board that conveys with very little text what Dean is feeling...!

Two of my favorite things: shower sex and period sex. This is so sexy and cute. And the last line is adorable!

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE AWESOME WORK AND GREAT FEEDBACK!
These are not actual awards, as in, there is no competition! This system is set up so everyone has a chance to share the love and promote a fic/author in the Pond that has grabbed your attention. The more people that participate, the better this will be :D
THANK YOU ALL AGAIN, KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK, AND AS ALWAYS, HAPPY WRITING!

Irt your post about baseline prejudices the writers take as a joke, what's your approach to dealing with it when writing fics? I find myself sometimes struggling with this especially if im writing fix-its because it's quite literally impossible to address Everything, but at the same time I don't want to just leave the show as is. I mean, i feel this way about huge plot things like Gadreel too, but i think its a tiny bit easier to decide if those are necessary to adress to the specific fic rather than things that happen in a single episode or are brushed off as a joke. Like there are some things I just pretty much erase because to me at least there is no meaningful way I think I could interrogate it in a friggin destiel fic without essentially reproducing the shows prejudices like Busty Asian Beauties for example, but there are other things where I'm like...I should probably address this, right? But I just don't know what the line is. I know there will never be one definitive answer to this but i was just curious if you had any principles you follow in your writing.
That's a good question. Imo it's about prioritizing how important the issue is to the characterization, and how important it is to you as a writer.
Like to use the casual objectification of women as an example.
I'd say you can absolutely ignore Busty Asian Beauties. But I say that because it's a dumb gag that doesn't actually add anything to the characterization. I'd also ignore gags about pie, or "Agent Beyonce" or any other running gags that are silly and over-the-top.
But you can't just ignore the casual objectification of women. I've read fic where Dean is suddenly a bit too enlightened, or where he seems to clearly be used as a mouthpiece for the writer who's trying to retcon his change in attitude in a single paragraph. And that doesn't work, imo. Like if you want to totally revamp Dean's attitude towards women, go ahead, write what you want, but the characterization is going to feel off.
You could just write around it, just never have the characters in a situation where it comes up. Or you could have it be an explicit deliberate point in the plot or character development. (I've read a couple of fics that do this with Dean's alcoholism, deciding to take seriously something that is treated very casually on the show, and building a fic around it).
I thought about this when I was writing Life Skills and what I ended up doing was actually less about Dean's characterization and more about the narrative approach itself. Like on the show, especially in earlier seasons, there's a habit of treating sexual partners very superficially, like the narrative doesn't see them as real people, and very much just as a prop for the characters to have sex with. So I did my best to make the three main sexual partners seem like real people, with different quirks and behaviours and styles. So I didn't interrogate anything, and Dean was the same (maybe leaning more towards horny-but-respectful than towards outright objectifying, but still). I just didn't do what the show would have done. And I think it worked okay, and I didn't feel bad about it.
I may or may not get to actually writing it, but I've been trying to plot out a meanstiel fic based on the premise "what if the narrative treated honey!Cas with respect?" And I guess I'm taking a similar approach as to Life Skills in that I'm not addressing the show's ablism head-on (because that's the underlying problem of honey!Cas. That mental illness is just treated like a tragi-comic narrative tool and not, like, an actual thing. And like someone can just bootstrap themselves out of it. (Also this is making me remember "Sam Interrupted" and holy hell that was an awful episode)) and I'm just trying to reframe it instead. Instead of the narrative treating it like, "there's something wrong with Cas and that's funny/sad/a plot point", I'd treat it like, the way Cas experiences the world and communicates has changed, and there's new difficulties, but that doesn't make him less human. Like the characters aren't going to behave terribly differently (at least initially, anyways)(and except for my aversion to over-the-top silliness), they all still start with their same behaviours and attitudes, but my baseline assumption is different from that of the show, and that in itself shapes the narrative. If you know what I mean.
The initial post was more about things like Gadreel (or April, or Becky, etc.) Like I've read a bunch of fics that frame Cas' experience with April as traumatic for him. And I feel like you can do that in a fic that takes place immediately after that experience, based on the premise of "what if spn took consent seriously?" and treating it very deliberately. I don't feel like it works to have a fic that takes place years later, and is generally about something else, but at some point Cas' experience with April comes up and it's treated as traumatic. It feels like in that case, Cas' character development would have been set on a somewhat different path from April onwards, that the reader doesn't get to see, and it's a somewhat different version of Cas than the one we know from the show. If that makes sense? It's a ret-con.
I guess to sum it up, I would take the characters as they're presented on the show, and not ret-con in any additional angst or changes in attitude or anything like that. But I'd recontextualize them to whatever degree I feel is necessary.

How are you Lavi? I was wondering, have you have shared your opinion about the end of Supernatural? I would especially love to hear your thoughts about Destiel and that love confession.
hey! I'm... extremely tired because a lot of stuff is going on that I will partially share on main about soon but has been sapping my energies a lot (i'm OOOLD) but it could be worse, thank you <3
also, wrt spn: I think I did say it in scattered posts but if you want the condensed version:
I had quit spn like early s12 at the hitler episode then I finished it after the ending because I figured I owed it to them after watching the finale live as it aired so... it was something but going in order
I actually greatly enjoyed s12-15 up to the end and I was pleasurably surprised - like okay it was the usual crazy shit half of the time and it def had gone on too long but 12-15 were eons better than the slug that was 9-11 and I had a lot of genuine fun when watching them and like they actually look/are extremely coherent for spn standards so I mostly have positive stuff on the topic like the apocalypse universe was cool, the ketch redemption arc was cool, tombstone and the tarantino episode were a masterpiece (and the 80s rock episode too sdlgkjd same as the scooby doo crossover) and I loved chuck as the villain and how meta that was
concerning deancas and the love confession: I mean as the resident idiot who had written her first deancas fic after 4x03 aired I always thought that they didn't know what they had been doing until like s5 when they realized what they were doing (sorry no one convinces that 5x03 wasn't written by someone who didn't have the deancas agenda in mind in spades) but like I generally thought that if it went somewhere it was gonna end with sam retiring and being a man of letters or smth like that and deancas going off to fight monsters in a way where you could frame it as THEY ARE BEST FRIENDS™ in places where them being gay would be frowned upon
I also thought that if anything happened whether like... either canonization or adjacent-canonization it was gonna be the last five minutes of the series finale because otherwise some parts of fandom wouldn't have let anyone involved with that show live which is why I was pleasurably shocked the confession was in ep 18 and not 20
now: I think the network authorized it and then chickened out when covid hit because the way the entire thing is structured... like sorry but this story starts with cas rescuing dean from hell, in 18 cas ends up in the empty from which he can obviously be rescued, in 19 every single plotline gets wrapped except that one in an episode that can work as a finale-finale if you leave it at that and I'm supposed to think that the og plan for ep 20 didn't include a reverse thing where dean got him out and they made out? sorry at this point bite me I'mma put my money on that esp given that...
... episode 20 is the most useless finale i've ever seen in the sense that literally nothing happens in it, the show itself had fillers where more shit happened like honestly I've never seen 40 minutes of a show that were more... a waste of time and resources and effort as that one, it looked like they told the writers they needed to have dean and sam be bros™ one of them had to die and they met in heaven again and they did that but just that X°D like sorry but the vampire porn diaries had the exact same finale template - one brother dies the other lives a happy normal life and they meet again in heaven -, s8 of tvd was vastly worsely written than spn s15 like i'm not even arguing that, but if you look at tvd finale actually shit happens in it and when you watch it it actually looks decent/wraps things up/makes you feel stuff, the spn finale is just stupid but I can't even be angry at it because imvho it's obvious they did it on purpose X°D but like tldr if the og plans hadn't been scrapped whatever they were they would have had an ep 20 where shit actually happened and that wasn't the drag it was, and like if it had come at the end of a badly written season (like tvd) I'd have just shrugged and whatever but... it came after an actually well-written season that was actually coherent with the previous four ones so I can't believe that was the real endgame content really XD
anyway: the confession was imvho absolutely ic and coherent with the entire thing starting from s4 because like sorry cas being in love with dean since then is just blatantly making sense, I never thought once it was baiting or teasing because only ppl who never watched the show would think the delivery was bad or that either misha or jensen were cringing while saying their lines, cas saying exactly the stuff he said made absolute sense in context, dean's reaction (as much as I'm sure they cut stuff) was absolutely sensed as well and no one tells me he didn't reciprocate bc the entire thing was built so that he'd admit it to himself at the very end and I mean anon my friend my comrade when I watched that episode I cried for twenty minutes straight after I finished it so X°D
like okay yeah part of it was the SEE WE WERE RIGHT ALL ALONG FUCK THE DENIERS but most of it was that I honestly was moved and I found that entire speech extremely heartfelt, meaningful and a whole lot of things I'm not sharing on main because I don't want people deciding stuff based on it but like I have zero negative things to say about that confession, I'm glad it happened and I don't regret catching up also because it happened as it really felt like the natural reaching point of cas's whole arc, I'm just sad that whatever the fuck went on with the cw they didn't let dean have a decent ending bc honestly what the fuck was that thing and they deserved to be happy without presuming they met offscreen in heaven or whatever the fuck but honestly all my issues with spn's ending are with the cw obviously getting cold feet concerning episode 20
tldr: the ending-ending sucked but up until 15x19 I thoroughly enjoyed most of what I saw nonsensical or not because at that point spn was the kinda thing you watched bc you liked it with all the faults it has, I 100% believe that the last episode sucked on purpose because I've never seen a finale done with so little effort after four seasons full of effort ever like not even penny dreadful whose finale imvho sucked on purpose sucked this much but like getting there was worth it and deancas being canon in itself was smth I never thought we'd get this explicitly and I'm very very very happy it happened, peace

we are the end-alexisonfire
lots of endverse vibes, especially with (lyrics): “there’s no affection, only infection / suit yourself, suit yourself / can i depend on you to surrender? / and we will storm their shores”. (lyrics): “side by side / we’ll comb the earth and sweep it clean / hearts and feet unified”, they’re together, fighting their next apocalypse. this also has god!castiel vibes, clearing the world of homophobic assholes and bigots, along with lyrics: “and we will strike with the hands of god / and leave nothing in our wake”.
side walk when she walks-alexisonfire
(lyrics): “now i’m afraid of open water / but i often bathe in sin / let’s be honest you know you shouldn’t bother / ‘cause with me it’s impossible to win”, more godstiel/leviathan!cas energy, but this time dean reacting to him. afraid of open water => watching leviathan!cas walk into the water and die, often bathe in sin => dean turning to alcohol and sex to ignore his emotions, shouldn’t bother it’s impossible to win => dean pushing away everyone cause then they can’t hurt him (a lot of dean in this song). more of a fandom/fic pov,(lyrics): “there was always warmth between us / dressed to kill you look so right / i am drunk with lust tonight”, literally dean being attracted to/turned on by cas when he’s all powered up & smitey.
committed to the con-alexisonfire
this one was hard so take my view with a demon sized helping of salt (not destiel)
(lyrics): “rich boy on his hoard of milk and honey / kneeling at the altar of inherited money / and all his marks are in it to win it / but he’s selling yesterday’s lottery tickets”, leviathan moment, being able to be someone who’s already powerful (dick roman) and using that to become more so
mailbox arson-alexisonfire
(lyrics): “this town is no longer mine, it’s fucked with me for the last time” GODSTIEL BEING FED TF UP WITH ALL THE RELIGIOUS PPL USING GOD’S NAME TO MANIPULATE PEOPLE! (lyrics): “oh how i wish that i could see your face”, dean needing to see cas. needing to be around cas. trying to find him when he’s human. praying to him every time he wants needs to see him.
black star-radiohead
(lyrics): “i know all the things around your head and what they do to / you” and “troubled words of a troubled mind i try to understand / what is eating you.” cas knowing dean better than dean does himself, because he remade him, defense mechanisms and all.
like real people do-hozier
this song is what the spn ending should’ve been for cas and dean. (lyrics): “what did you bury? / before those hands pulled me from the earth” throwback to when cas “gripped [dean] tight and raised [him] from perdition”. (lyrics): “honey, just put your sweet lips on my lips / we should just kiss like real people do”, basically what cas was thinking every time he saw dean (and vice versa). real people => not needing cas to be an angel. he’s just cas, no matter how strong or powerful. AND THEY SHOULD KISS. (lyrics): “i knew that look, dear, eyes always seeking / was there in someone that dug long ago / so i will not ask you why you were creeping / in some sad way i already know” THIS IS THE CONFESSION. DEAN SAYING “don’t do this” BECAUSE HE KNOWS (or at least was starting to figure it out) AND THE “‘why does this sound like a goodbye?’ ‘because it is’”(5x18) he knew it was a goodbye, because that’s the time dean would hear nice things. when someone was saying goodbye (forever)
take me to church-hozier
first off, biblical, which already connects with supernatural. (lyrics): “we were born sick / you heard them say it”, sam being cursed by azazel early on, both sam and dean growing up in the life (and how they say there’s no way out of the life once you’re in it), sam and dean being the “true vessels” for lucifer and michael. (lyrics): “i’ll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies” … “let me give you my life”, castiel always being there when called, worshiping dean, having their “profound bond”, being connected (and in love). (lyrics): “there is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin / in the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene / only then i am human / only then i am clean”, cas pulling dean from hell, cleansing him of sin, becoming human again before turning into a demon
hello my old heart-the oh hellos
(lyrics): “oh-oh don’t leave me here alone / don’t tell me how we’ve grown for having loved a little while / oh-oh i don’t want to be alone / i wanna find the home / i wanna share it with you”, post-confession, dean realizing he could’ve had cas this whole time, not wanting him to go now that he has all of him. (lyrics): “nothing lasts forever / some things aren’t meant to be / but you’ll never find the answers / till you set your old heart free”, literally just. if dean had said something to cas. if he’d allowed himself to love and be loved in a way he was scared of (john winchester’s A+ parenting). he could’ve had cas. could’ve been happy with him.
i will follow you into the dark-death cab for cutie
(lyrics): “love of mine / some say you will die / but i’ll be close behind”, ……. this happened. this was in the show. ngl i feel like if cas hadn’t died, dean would’ve fought his own dean much harder than he did (i mean,, rebar?? you think rebar is gonna be dean’s final death?? no). (lyrics): “i’ll follow you into the dark / no blinding light / or tunnels to gates of white / just our hands clasped so tight / waiting for the hint of a spark”, okay so this is more of a “the finale didn’t happen” approach, but dean jumping into the empty (at some point after the ending, not right at that moment) and saving cas somehow. and they embrace! and dean says he loves cas! and they kiss! and the empty is like ‘okay i’ll let these gays have a happy ending’. (lyrics): “the soles of your shoes / are all worn down / the time for sleep is now / but it’s nothing to cry about / ‘cause we’ll hold each other soon”, after dean saves cas, they grow old together, they drive and see new places and just live, and at the end of their lives it’s okay that they’re dying, because they’ll be together after as well
give me (almost) any song and i can make it about destiel or supernatural as a whole

Hi I’m a new Supernatural fan, fellow Dean girl… needing some recommendations on who to follow. I don’t care about the actor’s personal life or drama though so drama free blogs would be preferred
Hey Sweetpea!
Welcome to the crazy! Aha! How are you finding the fandom so far?
Ahhh fellow Dean girl, I salute thee! What got you hooked? The eyes? The freckles? The lips? The deep voice? Or you know...all of the above? Ahahaha!
Still, it's made me smile that you've found me, me of all the blogs and I'm gonna try my very very best to point you in all the lovely directions of this fandom. So...lets begin!
Also - I also totally do drama free. Ain't nobody got time for that.
*cracks fingers and neck*
@deanwanddamons - reads a lot of fanfictions so there will always be new stuff on there, writes a few herself too! Also, a total sweetheart and super friendly. Will always help you where she can. I met her through SPN and we talk daily even 2.5 years later!
@smol-and-grumpy-  Her URL makes her out to be smol...and grumpy but I can assure you she is definitely not grumpy. Smol...i am, yet to determine ;) She is one of the kindest souls, always has the first super hot images of Jensen/Dean and has an eye watering long list of Dean fanfic.
@talesmaniac89 - The graphic queen. Wanting a new Dean/Jensen wallpaper, icon - anything? Tales is your gal. She also writes and is a super positive lovely person who I adore.
@katehuntington - she's the Dean to my Sam. She's on hiatus right now, having a mental health break but doesn't mean her blog is still not a golden nugget in this fandom. Her series Ride With Me is impeccable.
@waywardbaby - a literal Greek goddess. She's such a sweetheart, and is so kind. She will always have the thirstiest pics and she will always be in the mood for Dean...if you get my drift ahaha.
@thinkinghardhardlythinking - A fellow UK girl who I wish I could live next door too. She's one of the most wonderful souls, and I always feel so honored to have her in my life. Fair warning, her fics are awesome and they are lengthy. It'll keep you good for hours ;)
@cockslut-padalecki - Another UK gal and Lisa is so so so lovely and I love her an incredible amount. She has a filthy masterlist for both Sam and Dean but fair warning, her fics are dark.
@janicho88 - Jenny is an angel. Never a bad word leaves her lips and she is also a fellow Dean girl!
@xlynnbbyx - drama free, absolute sweetheart and I adore the bones of her. She reblogs lots of fics, pics and like I said she's just a lovely lovely person.
@pink-sparkly-witch - Another sweetheart you can follow!! Fellow UK peep and a Dean girl!
@downanddirtydean - Lydia is one of the most passionate and kindest souls I know. We've been close friends now for well over a year and i just adore her. Just a little note though, she does support destiel so will post stuff about that from time to time! Just in case that's not your bag
@soaringeag1e - Meg is just a gentle soul. There is not a bad bone in her body and she is also a hardcore Dean/Jensen girl. You'll find so many fics on her blog!
@huffle-pissed - She is more Sam, and her blog is a mixture of her latest obsessions but she is still an absolute sweetheart. A ray of sunshine.
@chocolateheart - speaking of ray of sunshines, this girl BRIGHTENS my day constantly. Her fics are amazing (i know, i beta them) and she's just a bunch of pure gold goodness wrapped in a bow.
@watermelonlipstick - She loves her Sammy, with a side of Dean. Her writing is dreamy, and her friendship and the way she is is even more so.
@deangirl93 - My sweet aussie. Again, adore her and she is so so kind and caring. Her masterlist is also full of lots of goodies so definitely one to follow.
Offtttt this list is long already. Okay, gonna cut it down as these are other blogs to follow too that I haven't seen any drama from!
@winchestergirl2 / @440mxs-wife / @princessmisery666 / @dean-winchesters-bacon / @deanwinchesterswitch / @roonyxx / @couldabeenamermaid / @jay-and-dean / @writercole
ahhhhhhhhhh my mind is mush so im sorry if ive forgotten anyone, but I know that these peeps tag will add their own known DRAMA FREE blogs to this post to help you connect babes!
Once again, welcome to the fandom!
Much love Xox

Suptober Day 6: Cemetery Boys
wc: 1.3k tags: hunter!cas, human!cas, destiel au, case fic, a little grave digging and flirting never hurt anybody
This. This was the worst part of the job; Dean concludes as he shovels away another patch of dirt. He cringes when he realizes that actually the people dying are the worst part but digging up a grave is a close second.
“I am...never...playing that...stupid...fucking game. Again!”
He hated rock, paper, scissors anyways. Couldn’t they play darts or cards to settle bets? Why do they have to play such a childish game? And why does he always fucking lose?
Dean throws the dirt over his shoulder with ache arms. Sam suggested someone had to stay with the pretty girl and protect her from the ghost of some old-timey creep. So, now Sam is somewhere comforting the college cheerleader while Dean is struggling to climb out of the hole. He just needed a second—a minute.
Fuck, he needed a nap.
He was almost out when he saw someone running towards him.
“Shit!” Dean lost his footing and fell onto his back. Landing back into the grave with a loud groan.
He heard a loud chuckle before he opened his eyes and saw, “Wow. Aren’t you pretty?”
Dean saw the man roll his eyes, but all Dean could think about was how angelic the man looked with the glow of the moon behind him.
“Did I just die and gone to heaven?”
“If heaven is finishing this dig, then yes.” Dean barely heard his words cause he was putty under the voice. The deep fucking voice. “You’re Dean, right?”
Pretty boy knows my name! “Yeah.” Smooth. “Yeah, am I that famous already?”
“Your brother sent me over to check on you.” Pretty boy helped Dean out of the grave, holding his hand out and helping Dean regain his balance by holding a hand to his waist. “Says you were taking too long.”
Was this dude teasing him, or was he dead serious?
“Yeah, well, digging up a dead body isn’t as easy anymore.”
“I don’t think it was ever easy.”
Dean blinked at him, still unable to understand if the dude just had a dry humor or if he was fucking serious.
“Who the fuck even are you?” Dean finally asked, handing the guy the extra shovel before he could even answer.
He watched pretty boy take the shovel and jump into the hole with ease. Already digging when he answers in a deep groan. “I’m Castiel.”
It took a second for Dean to stop hearing the name bouncing off the walls in his brain. “Castiel?”
Cas gave him a slight nod, his lips in a tight line as he started to shovel off the dirt quickly. Dean sat down at the edge of the grave and watched him, enjoying the way his arms and back muscles stretch his shirt, but also in suspicion.
“And what the fuck are you doing here, Cas?”
“I was on my way to this hunt, actually.”
“So you’re a hunter.”
“I thought that was obvious.”
Yeah. Well. “Well, we did all the work already, so you can’t take the credit.”
“I don’t need credit. I just want to help.” Cas was already leaving a pretty good dent. “I was supposed to be here sooner, but my car broke down. Left it on the side of the road, hidden by some trees--can’t really call a mechanic when I have an arsenal in the back.”
Dean jumped in and grabbed his own shovel to help.
“Well, it must be your lucky day, Cas.” Cas looked up at him, eyebrows knitted together. “You are looking at one of thee best mechanics on this side of the country.”
“What about the other side?”
“I’m not so good over there.”
They both cracked a smile. So maybe Cas does have a dry sense of humor. And Dean...well, shit, Dean thinks he likes it.
“After we’re done here, maybe I can give you a ride back to your car? See what I can do.”
Cas was staring at him, almost as if he could see right through him, and Dean wasn’t sure if he liked it, but he sure as fuck can get addicted to being seen.
“I would appreciate that very much. Thank you, Dean.”
“No problem. Maybe that would make us even.” Dean says as his shovel hits something old. He slams the shovel down harder and cracks the wooden box. “Jackpot!”
Cas climbed out of the grave with ease and quickly turned around to help Dean out again. He wanted to show that he could get out all by himself, too, but he didn’t want to lose the opportunity to hold the damn dude’s big rough hands.
Shit. It’s been a while for him.
“Dean?” Dean noticed his gaze had fallen to the other man’s lips. It was formed into a small smile. “The salt?”
He’s a professional! He should not be letting this pretty boy interfere with the job. Since when has this been a rule? Now. He is starting now.
Dean picked up the salt, and before he could pour it out into the grave, he felt a familiar push of something hard knocking him back. He landed hard against a gravestone, his back getting the worst of it, while he heard his name being called out but everything was a little fuzzy. The figure before him, dressed in an old prison uniform, grinned down at him before he took hold of Dean’s neck. It was choking him.
“Dean!”
His vision faded as he tried to fight the ghost, but his legs just went through him. But eventually, he fell onto his knees, sucking in the air before a coughing fit started.
He felt strong arms around his shoulders, protecting him. “Come on, Dean. We gotta burn the remains.”
Easy for him to say. He wasn’t just thrown across the graveyard like a damn rag doll.
Dean followed Cas’s lead without complaint, noticing now that the dude had a shotgun in hand. When they reached the grave again, there stood the ghost with the most fucked up grin that made the Joker’s scars look good. It gave Dean the chills, and he started to feel his body freeze up.
“Cas.” Dean tugged at the other guy’s sleeve. His hands felt so weak, and when he looked down at himself, he noticed they were starting to become purple. “Fuck.”
This is how all his victims were found. Shit, that also meant the damn ghost found him pretty enough to kill.
Cas noticed at the same time and gave Dean’s hand a gentle squeeze as he pulled it off of him. He gave Dean an apologetic smile before turning towards the ghost. “If you want him. Take him.”
“Are you fucking serious?” Dean complained as he watched the ghost’s eyes widen as he looked Dean up and down. “If that dirty hand touches me, Cas. You’re dead.”
“Then I suggest you keep him away from you while I burn this bitch.”
Dean couldn’t help but smile. Even while being used as fucking bait, he could find time to find Cas as cute and funny.
Dean did as he was told, ignoring the way his lungs burned with every gasping breath as he tried to fucking run from the ghost. Like the first idiot who dies in a horror movie.
“You could have given me the gun!”
“Get your own!”
“Ass!”
Dean swore he heard laughter.
And just when he was cornered, with nasty fucking claws trying to bury themselves into his chest, the ghost backs away in screams. Burning up from the inside first and slowly spreading. Then, finally, the screams and remains become lost to the wind.
Dean fell back against a grave, his chest still ached along with everything in his body, when he saw Cas run towards him. He slid into his knees and carefully cradled Dean’s head between his hands, looking at him again. Looking at him like he knew him. Cared about him.
“Dean? Dean, you okay?”
Dean wanted to shove those hands away. He wouldn’t have let anyone take care of him like this, but right now, he didn’t care.
“You owe me, Cas. That grimy nasty shit touched me.”
Cas sighed in relief, knowing Dean was fine. Or at least, he was alive.
“I guess I owe you.” Cas helped Dean up. “Maybe after you fix my car?”
“Deal. But buy me breakfast first?”
“Deal.”
