May the Gods be With You
Thursday 27/6 and we are off to Gatwick to fly to Athens. Despite a bit of a rush getting to Victoria we managed to leave Pimlico at just after 11.00, catch the express train to Gatwick at 11.30 with about 90 seconds to spare (as Liz says, similar to my daily work habit whereby if I'm not running for the tram I consider myself early) and be at Gatwick at 12.00pm. Not bad going. An uneventful, though very crowded and over 1 hour late EzyJet flight to Athens followed, and given a 9.15pm arrival, we had arranged to be picked up from the airport. This was the best value thing as our driver had perfect English and was a font of knowledge on both Athens and the Peloppenese. He also discussed islands though thoroughly approved of the two we have booked to visit - Folegandros and Milos which was reassuring. He mentioned that he tries to encourage people to go to some of the lesser known ones. He actually suggested we pulled our phones out and took notes of his suggestions which we duly did. Great to have a welcoming and friendly intro to a country as opposed to some of the surly or disinterested and monosyllabic cabbies you can get. We always muse after the occasional bad experience (like the guy who terrified us with his driving and then short changed us in Istanbul or the guy in Valletta who spent the journey screaming down the phone at someone) as to why there is not some better intro to many countries. Still, luckily these are generally exceptions though the good guys like this one and a chap in Kraków stick out. Most fall into the disinterested segment. Guess country publicist and tour guide is not what they are paid to do. Anyway I digress. We reached our quite central hotel the Evripides in about an hour, checked in and headed out for something to eat. It was now 10.30pm and we weren't sure what would be open. The hotel receptionist and driver had made a couple of recommendations and we headed for one. Within a 6/7 minute walk we were in a busy square with cafes, bars and general hubbub. We found a restaurant complete with bouzouki player and ordered drinks and dinner. Liz the chicken Gyros and me calamari. Liz's was the winner with copious quantities and quite tasty we could have just shared that. Lesson learned immediately on quantities. It was very pleasant sitting there and we had a little wander round post dinner, spotted a possible candidate for dinner the next night and headed home. Tomorrow an early start to beat the crowds and heat to the Acropolis and Parthenon. We were up at 6.40 am after about 6 hours sleep, had breakfast at the hotel and headed off on foot for what was supposedly a 15-20 minute walk mostly uphill. It's not hard to see the Acropolis/Parthenon as it overlooks the city and we had a clear view of it from our hotel dining room and our balcony. However, though given directions we soon got a bit lost and the view of our objective was obscured by the buildings once in the backstreets. Also google maps seemed to be sending us in circles. 45 minutes later we arrived a bit flustered. We had a little bit of luck with the queue as I happened to be in what I thought was a short enquiry queue but turned out you could buy tickets there so we probably made up our lost time. It was certainly warm, around the 30 mark, and it was still only 9.00 am. We made our way up the hill towards the Parthenon which is really the centrepiece of the Acropolis which is the name for the whole area on which the Parthenon and other related ancient buildings are situated. The entry gates are magnificent and the Parthenon is vast and grand and quite moving to look at. Completed in 438 BC and dedicated to the Goddess Athena as is most of the Acropolis site it is the largest Doric temple ever completed in Greece. We wandered around taking it all in. Of course now we could visualise what the building might have looked like with the frieze, which is now partly in the British Museum, in place. Not that the originals, even if back in Greece, will ever go back up there. You would have to go the Acropolis Museum to see them, together with the ones that the Greeks retained. It's interesting though that the Greeks seem prepared to augment a little to replicate how things might have looked (see next para) so you wonder if they might contemplate sticking replicas up. Another large and well restored building on the site is the Erechtheion temple. At one end is an olive tree said to have been created by Athena. The Greeks took a cutting during WW11 to protect it from the Germans and the current tree was planted from that cutting in 1952. Also part of the temple includes 6 larger than life columns of maidens known as the Caryatids. The ones on site are plaster cast replicas with the originals in the Acropolis museum which we were heading to next. That is they are all in that museum apart from 1 column which our old mate Lord Elgin carted off to the British Museum. They'd like that back too. Visiting this site is another of those quite spiritual things. The history, the magnificence of the architecture, the significance to the Greek people and the ancient world, it's positioning - with a 360 degree view of the city, also visible from all corners of the city including at night when it is lit up. It gives you the sense that it is one of those reassuring icons - as long as it's there everything will be alright. A lot of tourists but not too bad and by the time we left the site perhaps just over an hour and a half after entry the numbers entering were noticeably increasing so we felt pretty good about our decision to make the effort get up and arrive early. It was now sweltering, around mid thirties and not too much shade. We made our way down towards the Acropolis Museum. This was going to be interesting as we would see those parts of the frieze which remained in Greece as well as a myriad of other artefacts. The museum is very modern and again we were pleased that arriving there around 11.00 meant that we zoomed in with no queuing. As we saw later as people finish their tour of the Acropolis they headed for the museum and there was a lengthy queue when we left around 2.00ish. The frieze is well set out on the top floor and you can walk around it gazing at the tablets at eye level. There are gaps of course including for the tablets in London. Also on view are the 5 columns of the maidens from the Erechtheion. Just too many things to mention throughout the museum - statues of animals mythical and real, Gods, Goddesses, men, women, gold coins, pots, jugs etc. Many, very exquisite. We broke for a pleasant lunch sitting outside under shade in the restaurant with a view up to the Parthenon towering above us. Pretty good. Post lunch one final look through for things we missed and then we started to head back to the hotel. The route back was much easier as we followed the throng and it was through the centre of town with shops, cafes, flea market all in full swing. It was lively. Arriving back around 3.00pm we settled back for some down time and some blog writing. Later, after drinks at a very pleasant cafe restaurant with a bit of people watching thrown in we headed back to our busy square of the previous night to have dinner. The place that we had identified the night before whilst quite characterful in terms of being in a small cut de sac off the main drag had a pretty basic menu of the pizza and chips variety with a few Greek dishes thrown in. So we went to the place recommended by the hotel clerk the previous night. This night it had a few more people in, the bouzouki and guitar were being played and singing was good. Liz had the stuffed peppers and me lamb and both were excellent as was the ambience. A good choice we had a very laid back and pleasant evening. The next day it was time to leave and we needed to pick up our car from Piraeus. We liked the Evripides Hotel, nothing flash but did the job, reasonably priced, staff friendly and breakfast quite adequate. Also very close to the action it's about a 300/400 metre walk down some quite run down streets to get to it. To be honest the run down streets seemed like classic Athens with a lot of cracked paving, some derelict buildings and closed shops amid active ones. That might not appeal to everyone especially at night but as we left, a tour group of 20 sooomethings had checked in so it was seeing a fair bit of business and the slightly run down location (though the hotel itself was classic 3 star and fine) didn't bother us. We'd happily stay there again.

Author’s note: WELCOME TO CANADA!!
“Barbie Broughton? Are you fucking kidding me? Barbie? Really?” I looked at the ID. My face, and the horrible name. Colonel Rhodes had made me a captain though. That wasn’t too bad.
“It was the best I could do on short notice, Annie,” Tony rolled his eyes.
“You named me Barbie, Tony! I hope no one pulls me over,” I muttered. Colonel Rhodes leaned against the counter, watching me serve dinner.
“You’ll have to use it to check into hotels, sign credit card slips. Decide now how you want to be addressed.” He stole a wing from the plate.
“Ugh. I suppose Barbara will have to do,” I sighed.
“Think of this as an adventure, Annie.” Tony traded me a fresh beer for his dinner plate. We settled in for dinner. I steered the conversation away from everything wrong in the world, and instead we talked about the sights I was bound to be able to see on my drive. Despite having grown up in Canada, I’d never strayed too far from home before leaving to work for SHIELD. I was looking forward to seeing so much of country.
Pepper arrived and joined us for dinner. She had left a huge pile of shopping bags in the hallways. I soon learned everything there was intended for me. It was too much, but she wouldn’t hear of it. She wanted my cover so thorough and complete that I wasn’t to touch my own things until I was settled in at Tony’s cabin. She went through each bag with me carefully. The woman had impeccable taste. She’d even bought me a Lulu Lemon sweatshirt, saying she saw a lot more of it when she was in Canada than she did elsewhere. I’d never been able to justify the extravagance of Lulu Lemon before, and pulled the sweatshirt on right away. I tucked the rest of the new clothes into the new bags she had purchased for me, and zipped them closed. Tony met me in the hallway and held out a messenger bag.
“What’s this?”
“You need to leave your laptop behind. This is a new one. I’ve left some notes and directions on it. For checking in with me, and the like. No porn, Annie. Here is your new shiny credit card. There’s $500 in cash in the front pocket of the bag. Have you got a gun?” He held out the credit card. I slipped it into the wallet that Pepper had bought me. Again, the woman had impeccable taste.
“I’m going to Canada, Tony, there’s laws about hand guns,” I argued.
“You need a gun. Don’t tell me you don’t have one.” His tone was sharp.
“Alright, yes. My super gave me his service revolver.” I dug into the shoulder bag and pulled it out.
“Ammo?” He asked. I dug out the two boxes of bullets that Bob had handed me. Tony opened them up to check and started laughing. He shook one of the boxes and a roll of bills slid out. It had to be at least a thousand dollars.
“Oh my god!” I gasped, “That man deserves to be sainted. He couldn’t afford to give me that! Tony, you have to make sure he gets it back.”
“Of course.” He nodded and put aside the one box. “You’re going to need extra ammo. I’ll get someone to meet us at the airport with it.”
“I suppose I need to get comfortable with this, don’t I?” I swallowed back my nerves.
“Time is wasting, Annie. Let’s get going.” He gestured toward the elevator and followed me down the hall, dragging my suitcase behind him.
When I was a kid, my dad had always called Toronto ‘The Big Smoke’. I don’t know where it came from, and I knew about 4 other cities that also boasted the nickname, but whenever anyone said it, I always thought of Toronto. My mum had always called it Hogtown, and I grew up calling it T.O., which, when I googled it as an adult, I learned was a generational thing. Any way you looked at it, Toronto was a big, sprawling metropolitan mess. It was bigger than Vancouver, not as pretty, but definitely more famous. From my view, out the wing window of the Stark Industries jet, it looked like another big city to get lost in. I hoped for a GPS in whatever vehicle Pepper had arranged for me.
“Okay, Annie, it’s showtime. Let’s get the suit on.” Tony gestured to the back of the cabin. I followed him to the open space before the galley. He put down what looked like a red and gold suitcase and tapped it with his toe. I assumed that I should starfish, and I was glad I did. The suit snapped onto me, battering me in the process. It was not built for a woman, let alone a woman with my bust. My chest felt tight, and I immediately had issues breathing.
“Tony, I don’t know if this is going to work. I can hardly breathe. It’s crushing my boobs,” I was a little breathless. He bit back a smirk and tapped at the tablet he was holding. The suit loosened just enough that I didn’t feel like I might collapse from lack of oxygen.
“Let me know where else is bothering you. Still sore from your roll down the freeway?” He watched the suit clicking into place with a critical eye, looking down every few seconds to tap something into the tablet. It always resulted in immediate relief from something pinching me.
“Am I still going to look like Iron Man in this? Because if you keep letting out seams to accommodate my lady parts, I’m going to look like Iron Vixen,” I commented when the chestplate loosened again. Pepper snorted into the back of her hand. Tony pursed his lips and squinted.
“If you jet off as quick as you can, no one will really notice.”
“This assumes I can figure out how to make your damn suit work,” I laughed.
“I’ve got J.A.R.V.I.S. set to autopilot you. You just need to put your hands at your sides, and everything will go to plan. There’s coordinates set for the Stark Industries plant, which is where we will meet you,” he explained.
“And you think the Stark Industries plant is safe?” I asked. I was worried it would be being watched.
“It’s a calculated risk, Annie. We have to hope we’re not being watched,” Pepper offered. The helmet and mask snapped onto my head and I had a moment of panic and claustrophobia before the heads-up display flashed on, and J.A.R.V.I.S. started talking to me. I saw Tony and Pepper sit back down for the landing, and tried to brace myself, thinking I might topple over. But the suit was pretty awesome and the pilot was exceptionally smooth. When the plane taxied to a stop, Pepper signaled to me to follow her to the door. When the door opened, she nodded and J.A.R.V.I.S. took over, flying me out of the airport’s airspace at a low altitude that wouldn’t interfere with the planes. J.A.R.V.I.S. informed me that the pilot had received clearance for us to fly away. The sensation of flying in the Iron Man suit was not what I was expecting at all. I think we all have that dream about the air rushing through your hair, and lightness and freedom. I felt like I was in a steel prison. The only way I knew I was moving was by watching the world pass by below me. It was surreal.
Tony had bought me a Jeep Cherokee. Correction. Tony had bought Barbie Broughton a Jeep Cherokee. Thankfully, it wasn’t a brand new one. It was stocked with a bunch of camping gear, and was in exactly the right condition for a road trip: just a little beat up on the exterior, but tuned impeccably in the engine.
“Annie, promise me you won’t take any stupid risks. I have enough to worry about with him,” Pepper placed a hand on my arm. “And think about dyeing your hair tonight. Just to be safe.”
“Cross my heart, Pepper. Thank you so much,” I threw my arms around her impulsively. She took a short step back before returning the hug. Tony put his arms around both of us and squeezed his way in between us somehow.
Can you blame me for wanting to be the meat in the sandwich?” He asked when we pushed him away. I shook my head, and pulled him close.
“I can’t even put into words, Tony. I never thought in a million years you would be this good, decent and kind. Thank you so much.”
“Stop, I’ll cry,” he teased. “The GPS in the Jeep will get you where you are going. J.A.R.V.I.S. is linked to it and to your laptop. You have your own encrypted hotspot for internet. Don’t pick up hitchhikers, and don’t linger too long anywhere. You’re on leave after a tour in Iraq, so you aren’t going to waste time getting to your family’s cabin in BC to get away from the world. And Pepper’s right. Think about hair colour. I’m fond of red myself.”
“I got it, Dad.” I winked at Pepper. Tony put the keys in my hand and gave me one last look before sighing and turning back to the building. I climbed into the Jeep, plugged in the iPod he’d handed me with the keys and turned the engine over. AC/DC came blasting through the speakers and I smiled. It was going to be a long drive, but I was finally on my way.
Northern Ontario was the longest, dullest, most horrible stretch of road I’d ever had the bad luck of driving. There was nothing to see, except trees as far as the eye could see. I might have enjoyed it more, but I was trying to cover as much ground as I could before I stopped. In a perfect world, where I wasn’t worried about HYDRA and Garrett, I would have stopped at Sault Ste Marie, but it was just too close to the border. I wound up stopping in Sudbury for some supplies early in the drive, but then I drove until I couldn’t focus on the road anymore, and wound up in a tiny town called Marathon. I found a hotel and crashed for the night. I think I was asleep before my head hit the pillow. In the morning, after checking in my email with Tony and sending him a photo of the giant nickel in Sudbury, I walked over to the hair salon.
“Good morning!” There was a single woman in the shop. She was probably in her late twenties, and she had a welcoming smile. It was reassuring. “What can I help you with?”
“If you have an appointment available, I’m looking for a new look,” I started.
“I can fit you in right now. What are you thinking?”
“I’d like to try a different colour, go shorter.” I took a deep breath. I was pretty attached to my two-inches-past-regulation hair.
“Bad break up?” She asked, giving me a sympathetic look.
“Yeah, something like that.”
“Well, honey, let’s start by washing that man out of your hair,” she pointed at the sink. I followed her over and let her go to work. I was worried that the only hair salon in a town of 3000 people on the Canadian Shield was a tragedy waiting to happen. She cut my hair shorter than I would have liked, but in the end, once I washed all the product out of it, I thought I would be quite happy with the cut. It would still go into a ponytail, and she’d given me flowy layers around my face that softened my cheekbones and jaw. I’d suggested a chestnut brown, and despite my best effort to stick to my guns, she eventually convinced me that going brunette would be too stark against my pale skin. I wound up a strawberry blonde that was eerily reminiscent of Pepper’s hair colour. I wasn’t going to tell Tony.
“I love it,” I admitted with complete honesty.
“A little less Barbie now, wouldn’t you say? You must get that all the time,” the hairdresser laughed.
“I do,” I admitted with a sigh, “maybe I should have gone red a long time ago.”
“Well, you’re red now, and no one is going to call you Barbie for a good long time.” I left a sizeable tip and found the coffee shop before hitting the road again.
It took me two days to drive out of Ontario. I stopped in Kenora overnight, and sent Tony a picture of the giant fish that was the highlight of Kenora’s roadside. I was completely astonished to blow through all of Manitoba the next day, landing for the night in Saskatchewan. It was so incredibly flat, I was reasonably sure I could already see the Rockies. I couldn’t, of course, but I felt like I could. The Timbits in Saskatchewan were significantly better than the ones I’d had in New York, and I felt like I wanted to tell someone, but I stopped myself from sharing with the old guys sitting beside me at the Tim Horton’s in Yorkton. They didn’t look like HYDRA, they looked like old dude farmers, but I didn’t want to risk it.
I sent a quick email to Tony updating him of my location, and let him know I expected to be on the road for another two days at least. If I were lucky, it would only be two more days. I’d had too many close calls to want to stop for longer than a quick stop for a toilet and cup of coffee. It was killing me to stay more than a few hours a night at a hotel, and I found that I was napping in rest stops quite a bit to compensate for my habit of leaving as the sun rose. It would be good to get to my destination. Double-checking the map was a double-edged sword. Tony’s cabin, which I was sure was not so much a cabin as a palace in the woods run on an ARC reactor, was less than two hours from my mother’s house. From my childhood home. In my hometown. That I had to drive through to get to his cabin.
I hadn’t been home in ten years, but my hometown wasn’t a vast sprawling city like Toronto or Vancouver. It was a small city that prided itself on small city culture. If I ran into one person who recognized me, the whole cloak and dagger routine would be blown, and HYDRA would know exactly where I was. With my current luck, there were probably already HYDRA thugs in town waiting for me.

Love your blog! Do you mind doing head cannons for the rfa + saeran and v reacting to MC having horrible stomach pains to the point where she is screaming every time she moves just a tiny bit? I'm having that right now and it sucks bc I can't drink apple cider for New Years ;-;
ahhh i’m so sorry that happened! i hope you’re all better now ;v; also i’m rly sorry this is late
Yoosung
he’s scared???
like even the slightest movement from you induces terrible pain
what should he do to help?
he can’t move you or anything because he doesn’t want you in even more pain
he’s crouched beside you who’s lying on the couch on your back
“S-Should I get you some medicine? Would that help?”
you barely let out a small grunt as your whining takes over
he’ll take that as a yes
he runs to get some advil and a glass of water and comes back to you
Yoosung tries to sit you up, but you scream
“Oh god! I’m sorry!!”
“Just… give the pill and I’ll dry swallow it…”
he does as you ask and trying to ignore the pain, and you ingest it
“Is there anything else I can do to help?”
“Stay here with… me…”
and he does, watching over you for the rest of the night
Zen
“Babe? Are you okay?” Zen rushes over to you
“I’m f-fine… just bad stomach pains…”
“Here, let me move you to the bed where it’s more comfortable.” and he tries to pick you up but you’re yelling at him not to
as soon as he lifts you, you’re screaming in agony
“D-Don’t move me! Oh god… I’ll be fine on the couch… Just go get me pain killers, okay?”
he literally runs to go and get them
feeling bad for causing you more pain
when he comes back, he’s got a few in his hand
“You’ll be okay after you take these, right?”
you take them and swallow the pills
“Yeah… just give me time to rest and let the pills take action. I should be fine then.”
he gently brushes your bands from your face, looking you in the eyes
“Okay… but if you need anything, I’ll be right here, babe! Don’t be afraid to ask me for anything!”
you smile at him
“Thank you, Zen.”
even when worried, he was still so adorable
Jaehee
her immune system is relatively strong, despite the lack of proper sleep and diet
however, once she sees that you’re immobile and suffering from abdominal pain, she does some research, findng the best remedies to cure it
a bit ago, she tried having you sit up to drink tea, but your stomach wasn’t having any of it
so now you’re just lying there on her couch in pain
she finds that the best way to cure this is just pain pills and sleep
she goes to get the pain-relievers and a heating pad to help
after getting them, she plugs in the heating pad and sets it on your stomach, hoping that the warm feeling would help
she also gives you a few pills which you thankfully ingest
“This is the most I can do to help since you can’t sit up at all. I also suggest you try sleeping for a bit.”
“Thanks, Jaehee… I appreciate it.”
“Let me know if you need anything else, MC.”
“Mhmm…” and not even a minute later, you’re knocked out
she goes over to her desk and continues to work on paperwork, looking back and checking in on you every once in a while
Jumin
jumin you don’t need to call the best hospital in the couNTRY now put your phone down
you insisted that you don’t need to be put in intensive care and just some pain-relievers would suffice
and you also insist that he doesn’t need to skip work
he’s super worried about you but takes your word about the pills and decides to go to work after tending to your needs
you’re lying on the shared bed and under a few blankets
Elizabeth the 3rd is lying right next to you to keep you from being lonely
he comes back with the pills and hands them to you
you take them into your hand and swallow them, hoping that the effect would take effect soon
“Is there anything else I can get for you, princess?”
“A… kiss?” you smile weakly
he chuckles and leans down, careful to not move you and cause more pain
“Of course,” and with that, he plants a kiss on your forehead
“Feel better soon, MC. I will be back as soon as possible. Elizabeth the 3rd will keep you company while I’m away.”
he leaves and then you’re left with her
you drift off into sleep soon after
707
“Defender of Justice, Seven Oh Seven will use his magic powers to heal your stomach pains!”
you wanted to laugh, but couldn’t or else it would induce the pain
he wiggles his fingers above your stomach as if they were working some sort of magic
“Did it work?”
smiling weakly at him, you shake your head
“Unfortunately, it didn’t…”
“Then maybe these magic pills I randomly found in the cupboard will help?”
“I hope so.”
he holds up a bottle of pain relieving pills and shakes out one of them
“Here comes the plane~~”
you open your mouth and he plops it in, and you carefully swallow it
“God, I hope this kicks in soon,” you whine
“Don’t worry~! I used some of my powers to make the effects work as soon as possible!”
you smile at him again
“Thank you, Defender of Justice~”
he blushes lightly and gives you a chaste kiss on the lips
“Now sleep, my love! You’ll feel much better after you wake up!”
your eyelids grow heavy and eventually, you fall asleep
the last thing you feel was him placing a warm blanket over your body
V
probably not the first time he’s dealt with something like this
and he knows what to do
you’re lying in his comfortable bed with a few blankets over you
and when you were about to get the pills, your stomach was screaming no and it was the worse set of pain you’ve ever felt before
now you felt helpless that you had to let your nearly blind boyfriend get you pills and your heating pad
but you couldn’t move without experiencing excruciating pain
“Don’t move. I’ll get them for you.”
you’re literally in tears because of the pain
V does his best to navigate through his own home to get what you needed
he finally reached the pills and grabbed them, and then carefully navigated to where your heating pad was and grabbed it as well
once he came back in, he did his best to plug in the heating pad by the bed and lay it on your stomach
you told him you could take care of the pills and you did, trying to get two of them out without moving your lower body
you took them and the nice warm feeling of the heating pad took over
“I don’t know how well the heating pad will work, but I’m hoping the pain relieving medicine will help as soon as possible.”
“It feels good… but will you stay with me?”
“Of course.” he walks around to the other side and climbs in, careful to not move you
he lies very close to you on his side as he starts up a conversation to get your mind off of the pain
Saeran
“Uggghh…” you groan, clutching your stomach as you lie on your back on seven’s couch
Saeran looks at you from afar on the other couch, becoming concerned about how long you were whining
as you tried to get up, the pain only worsened when you moved and you screamed
this got his full attention and he stood up and came over to you
“MC?”
“S-Saeran… Can you grab me two ibuprofen? I can’t move…”
“Yeah.” and then he makes way to the medicine, shaking out two tablets and putting the rest back and comes back to you
with your hand held out, he places them in yours and you gingerly pop them each one into your mouth and swallow them
he’s about to take his place on the other couch again, but you stop him
“Will you stay right here with me…?” he looked at your weak form from above and nods, sitting on the ground beside you
Saeran slips his hand into yours, which is hanging off the edge of the couch
he gives your hand a gentle squeeze to let you know that he’ll be there until you’re feeling much better
“Thank you,” you whisper, and then drift off into sleep
