Angst prompt: “I didn’t know where else to go” with rf!Morgan? If you don’t mind?
Sure thing! Admittedly I haven't plotted out much of the details of this AU beyond what I’ve mentioned here, but I did my best to write this in a way that it could still be canon regardless of how the plotting goes. This takes place in late/post-s1 (not totally sure exactly when, but somewhere in that wheelhouse):
Morgan wasn't really sure what she was doing here. By all accounts, she should be far away from STAR and anyone associated with it—Barry’s horrified expression flashed in her mind’s eye, and it was almost enough to get her to abandon this foolish idea. Almost. She was still a teenager with nowhere to go and no one to trust…except a few. The door swung open, and Caitlin’s eyes widened. “Morgan? What are you—?” “I’m sorry,” Morgan blurted, tears welling in her eyes. “I’m…I didn’t know where else to go.” Caitlin still blinked at her, uncomprehending, so Morgan continued with increasing desperation, “I just need a little respite. A few days to lie low. Please. Just…just until I can figure out where I can go, or what I can—” “You can’t be here.” Something was odd about her voice, but Morgan couldn’t place it. “Cait, please, I know we haven’t talked much in the past year, and I know that’s on me, but I—” “Morgan. You have to leave.” Tears welled in her eyes. “Cait…” “Barry told us what you did.” Caitlin’s eyes shimmered with tears too—and for a moment, Morgan’s heart ached for her former big sister, until she said, “Patricide, Morgan? Of all the people—you killed—” “What? My father?” Morgan scoffed—Caitlin was the smartest person Morgan knew, couldn’t she see through this? “Except he wasn’t, was he? He was evil, he killed Barry’s mom, he—” “What are you talking about?” Caitlin frowned. “Dr. Wells was generous, warmhearted—even to you, especially this past year!” Morgan scowled. “Eobard Thawne wasn’t—” “…the Reverse Flash? What does he have to do with anything?” Morgan froze, suddenly remembering—why had she killed that monster in the first place? For revenge, and… …and for protection. To protect them, so they’d never know, so they’d never be hurt by any of his schemes. She just hadn’t considered that without them knowing the truth… (Now who’s the villain?) “Morgan?” Caitlin prompted, and suddenly, she realized what was odd about her voice—there was an edge to it. Caitlin had never spoken to Morgan like that. “I messed up,” Morgan said, letting her shoulders droop. “I…he…Aunt Tina’s dead, Cait.” Caitlin scoffed. “And that gives you the right to kill your only other parental figure? The only other person in the world who loves you?” Morgan recoiled as if struck. “Excuse me?” “Leave,” Caitlin snapped, her eyes flashing silver. “I won’t ask again.” And she hardly needed to—Morgan turned tail and fled, lightning flashing behind her. (How dare you, how dare you, I did this for you, for all of you, stop treating like I’m a monster!)
