For those who don't know, I am reading SVSSS for the first time and sharing my thoughts!

If you have not read it, there will be spoilers! Consider this a warning.

hello hello! As promised the tattoo reveal.

I survived getting half my sleeve lined but boy am I sore. Tattoos on your hand are the absolute pits. Like no joke, hand tattoos are rough my guys. 10/10 do not recommend, but I'm doing it because it looks cute LOL.

This tattoo will be a tea themed sleeve. Featured on this half: hibiscus, chamomile, green tea leaves, raspberries + raspberry leaf, and lemons. I have another appointment in December and January to get the shading done but for now just lines!

I did not have tea with this chapter but that is okay- let's get into the notes!

I was so hung up on Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu's relationship that I totally forgot an entire war is brewing. Well. Here we go LOL

The cat and mouse game at this point is wild. Really Shen Qingqiu needs to figure his shit out because the "accidental" flirting is horse shit. p245

OOP! FINALLY. Luo Binghe is totally sus about SQQ's knowledge about the future and other things he really shouldn't know. I really hope it's revealed that he is from another world and Luo Binghe is chill with it. p248

This is a side note but I really like Qi Qingqi, this woman is fierce as fuck. Like no nonsense I would 100% trust her with my life, death, and rebirth. I do suspect that she doesnt play a large role in the story but I wish she was present more. I do totally want to eventually read some fics with her in them because she is such a badass. p254

Dang! So the realm merging begins! I am sad though that they don't want SQQ to go, but I get it; he keeps running away or getting grievously injured. Also it's so weird that no one is really questioning how he has this much knowledge of future events, they just kind of accept it and run with it LOL (except Luo Binghe who has done the most questioning). pp256-257

Well I am sure that LBH reputation points will increase now that he's saved Zhao Hua Monastery! p260 Thank fuck too, because I really wasn't seeing a positive end game for him and SQQ if he wasn't able to turn his reputation around.

SO AWKWARD LOL. LBH telling everyone who is important that he only cares for SQQ and will only do what SQQ wants him to do and will do absolutely anything for him. Meanwhile SQQ: . I DIED: "Peak Lord Shen has truly raised a good disciple. He's become our cultivation world's tremendous fortune." Though he said "raised a good disciple" the tone was no different from the way he might say "married a good husband." pp262-263

Well. I thought it was embarrassing before, but then we get hit with the "Luo Binghe nodded solemnly. "Yes." His face spread into a smile. "And Shizun is mine.". p265

I really love every conversation between SQH and SQQ. The understanding they have and the banter is so good pp266-267

vaguely remembered the one post about how the show makes viewers amenable to the idea of zuko’s redemption from the start, so now im finally watching through atla for the first time i decided to try and note down every time the show does this that i pick up on

Book 1

zuko is always placed alongside iroh, who is naturally very likeable

as early as ep3 zuko is pitted against zhao, who is highly unlikeable. as such, the audience is already being encouraged to root for zuko in certain situations

it is also through these early interactions that we first get a real good look at zuko’s need to have his honour validated with his vulnerable “did you really mean that?” to iroh after he tells zhao that zuko is more honourable than him. this is a much more sympathetic way to communicate this than the angry shouting about his honour he also does

in ep7 we are given our first example of zuko chosing to delay his quest for the avatar for the sake of someone else. in this case, he rescues iroh from his captors, giving aang time to leave for the fire temple

this is also in direct contradiction to his earlier threats to leave iroh behind if he didnt hurry up because catching the avatar was too important to delay. thus this moment also communicates that zuko may be more bark than bite, and that maybe he doesnt rank catching aang as highly on his list of priorities as he talks like he does

the zhao-zuko dynamic returns in the fire temple, when zuko is seen tied up along with katara, sokka etc, while zhao lords it over all of them. thus subconciously we may perceive zuko as temporarily on the gaang’s side through a common enemy

ep12 is of course the big backstory episode for both zuko and aang and the way we are shown both stories interwoven with each other connects the characters and makes us more likely to feel similar amounts of sympathy for both. the visuals also really help with this, eg: the fire nation crew’s can fire transitioning into aang and katara’s campfire

and that shared look as aang and zuko catch sight of each other in the eye of the storm as aang’s flying away? really cemented that feeling of connection

zuko’s backstory also completely recontextualises his scar as a mark of his compassion towards the common people of his nation, and his insistence in the worth of lives

despite his loud assertions that no life is more important than catching the avatar, zuko makes the concious choice once more to let aang go for the sake of others – in this case, his crew – thus solidifying what we learned in ep7

and just in case that was too subtle for some, we also get to see zuko risk his own life actively saving a crew member from certain death. yknow, just to hammer the point home that zuko values other peoples’ lives way more than he’s been actively taught he should

just one episode later we get that little friendship speech aang gives zuko while he’s still waking up after being hit by a drugged arrow. from this we see that aang doesnt want zuko to be his enemy.

we can also infer from their location at this point that aang carried/dragged zuko to safety after discovering his identity either bc he didnt want zhao to find out it was zuko who orchestrated the rescue or he really just wanted to talk to him that badly

interestingly enough i think this also counts as the first real step back, what with zuko’s response and aang’s sad “i guess not”

zhao’s underhand attempted murder of zuko has us rooting for zuko’s survival, as well as bc we hate zhao and dont want his plans to succeed, especially since it comes not long after a very human moment on zuko’s ship

in fact, the fact that we’ve been shown so many human moments beteen zuko and iroh and their crew in contrast with a complete lack of anything like that from zhao all the way through the season makes us much more likely to be emotionally attached to zuko and his antics by this point. zhao hasnt given us anything to be fond of

the moment when iroh genuinely thinks zuko may be dead and you can see it on his face. as mentioned before, iroh is a very likeable character and anything that might hurt him this badly feels like an awful thing. ergo: zuko’s death = awful

iroh and zuko’s little moment of scheming aka the moment zuko’s survival is confirmed. i never thought i’d be so hyped to hear a plot to capture aang for themselves but i hate zhao so much at this point (for previously mentioned reasons plus extra) that if aang had to be captured id be much happier if it were by these two (also im assuming im supposed to be riding the high from finding out that the awful thing that is zuko’s death has not actually occurred)

“ever since i lost my son” “uncle, you dont have to say it” “i think of you as my own”

finally, when the water hand grabs zhao and despite everything zuko tries to save him. this is the guy who tried to have him killed and when it comes down to it zuko still tries to save his life. zhao refuses to be saved. this isnt an unusual trope for the climax of a piece of media but normally it would be the protagonist trying to save the antagonist to highlight the protagonists moral superiority, not one of the antagonists trying to save another antagonist. by placing zuko in the position usually reserved for the protagonist, the show implies zukos capacity to become one

so i watched the two-part first ep of the coming one super band (gosh darn it was long...) and it made me realize it’s been a while since ive watched a non-idol show LOL. overall it was more interesting to watch than i expected. i didnt have high expectations going in bc its not my usual type of show, but i knew i wanted to at least give it a try bc of ljt. i heard about what happened to hjx prior to this, so that put a damper on my spirits, but i still wanted to see how ljt would do. i did not imagine him in a band before this, but now i kind of can. 

i just cried a little inside when zhou zhennan asked liao juntao if zjy talks like mao buyi... oof 

i find it amusing that they all call ljt liao laoshi and he has lots of fanboys hahah and zzn calls him taotao and seems really close to him still

aw the way zzn specifically asks ljt to sing “don’t talk to me”, a song he hasn’t released yet, means they must keep in close contact and ljt shares his music with him, and zzn takes his songs to heart and truly listens and likes them. 

wow zzn really knows ljt’s guitar skills and rhythmic strengths and additional music styles could be demonstrated through this song and he wanted his friend to promote himself better by showing off a new song that may be more captivating to an audience in this type of setting. it really seemed like he was trying to protect and help ljt with genuine care. it’s been three years and the mrzz friendship still going strong warms my heart

OF COURSE THEY WOULD BRING UP “who” IT’S HIS CLAIM TO FAME SONG. and 3 years later, its still an amazing song. one of my favorites. 

also ljt’s quirky personality was one of my favorite characteristics about him. his talent and music goes without saying, he’s one of my favorite (if not my actual favorite) music makers. but his personality also just seems so fun and slightly strange LOL but like the way he pats his chest after each performance like hes calming his nerves (but you cant tell at all while hes singing) is such a contrast. 

UGH watching the montage from mrzz and then his story all the way through zzn’s crying literally brought me to tears.... lang lang saying how he could tell ljt has been through a lot... oh gosh and then those old clips of liao juntao with zhou zhennan, ma boqian, mao buyi, zhong yixuan UGH it just brought back so many memories and then the flashback to where ljt chose to battle meng zikun instead of wang jingli EVEN THOUGH HE KNEW HE WOULD LOSE AND HE HAD A BETTER CHANCE OF BEATING WJL......... aaaaaaahhhhhhhh because he wanted to protect his friends and let them go on to the next round. and never forget xue zhiqian’s heart-breaking “your choice may force you to struggle for another ten years” because he knew ljt was giving up such a rare opportunity. and mby just breaking down watching his friend commit career suicide basically ugh- that just- ughhh 

and the fact that even as a judge now, zhou zhennan just couldnt stop himself from crying when ljt called him “bro”

can you imagine what it’s like to be so close to success and to live the next three years knowing you had just as much capability and possibility as freaking mao buyi and zhou zhennan but you were still left behind, by such a hugely immense degree. to have lost too early on, even though you definitely had the talent to have at least made it to the next round, but you care too much about your friends to force your way through. 

ljt says he doesnt regret, and that is amazing to me. mao buyi and zhou zhennan are literally both judges on shows like this now. and hes still... a contestant.

lol wait i just had a thought, is ljt to super band what zzn was to produce camp? i really hope so. i feel like its inevitable tencent will favor him bc hes already signed to wjjw???? and hes probably the only one who has somewhat public recognition already? i really want ljt to debut as f-man... i cant imagine him on the sidelines. he deserves and needs to be the center of this eventual 5 person band. if wjjw messes him up again im literally going to question everything. 

ive never gone into a show with such a strong bias and desire for that bias to be center -- ive never dared to ask for that -- but ill say it again, ljt NEEDS AND DESERVES it. i didnt realize i felt so strongly about him until now. 

anyway, i can totally see how ljt and szb would get along, they both seem to have such sad stories (and ugh why is ljt so humble) but also how is tencent gonna deal with not having ljt as an f-man tho LOL

ouch watching the he junxiong part made my heart hurt... i heard about what happened, but watching it actually happen was still jarring. him not saying he wants his music to be commercialized, is that a reaction from what happened to “time of youth” ? It did feel like tencent stole that song from him and didnt credit him enough :\ so maybe he’d rather his music be remembered as in he wants to be remembered for his music? i do agree with zzn that hjx didnt sing the song as well as I expected him to this time though... my impression of he junxiong from produce camp was that he has a really nice voice and is really great at making music. but im surprised how much his attitude has changed. but i can understand it must be hard for him to see zzn sitting in front of him and not giving him his support. i guess from there in contrast, ljt’s humbleness is admirable. man, i wonder if/when we’ll see hjx again. tencent’s gonna hate him now lol.......

random but xu yang visually reminds me of yueyue and zhao ke visually reminds me of mu ziyang LOL also, i respect that hu yutong saw ryp was struggling with public speaking and let him go, but then went over to talk to him privately. he didnt want to make him uncomfortable and did his best to be gentle with his tone. but i agree it will be questionable for someone with such strong ideas like hyt to thrive in a group setting. 

there are a couple of kids besides ljt who im interested in, enough that i think ill keep watching this show for now, but also not enough for me to not be miffed that there are SO MANY extra clips/ shows (YET AGAIN) and i just dont want to / dont have time to watch them all just to look for ljt..... and ljt is still the main reason why id watch, so im gonna have to figure out if theres a way for me to just watch the ljt clips lol.................. 

also side note, seeing them do physically strenuous activities like three legged racing in the previews gave me horror flashbacks to afo and im so scarred from that show that seeing stuff like that just makes me super scared thinking that someone is going to get hurt. ugh its just so unnecessary and such a bad idea.  this was one of the worst parts about afo, the fact that the trainees kept getting injured doing dumb activities. why risk injury when your physical ability to do something as arbitrary as a three legged race should have no impact on your ability to succeed in a music competition???? it just seems so unnecessary and just there to add drama. sure it can build teamwork, but there are safer ways to build teamwork that may not lead to sprained ankles or scraped faces (UGH AFO) 

but anyway, if anyone else is actually watching this show, let me know! I saw a few people on twitter, but i dont think its gaining as much traction as an idol show would, since its a band show.

It began last week when Christopher Franko, co-founder of the Expanse project, took to Twitter and accused popular exchange Binance of quoting 400 bitcoin to list a token. The exchange’s head, Changpeng Zhao, has since responded rather personally to Mr. Franko, and, well, all hell has broken out. Get some popcorn.

Binance Slams Expanse Co-Founder for Listing Quote Claim

“We don’t list shitcoins even if they pay 400 or 4,000 BTC,” the face of Binance, Changpeng Zhao, came out swinging on Twitter. He was responding to a string of tweets by Expanse co-founder Christopher Franko, who insisted Binance quoted him by email a price of 400 bitcoin core (BTC) to list his token.

“ETH/NEO/XRP/EOS/XMR/LTC/more listed with no fee,” Mr. Zhao continued, “Question is not ‘how much does Binance charge to list?’ but ‘is my coin good enough?’ It’s not the fee, it’s your project!  Focus on your own project!”

Not five minutes later, Mr. Zhao went after Mr. Franko by name, removing any vagueness about his subject matter. “Also, the email Franko showed is a spoofed/scam email, not from Binance. Binance never quote fees in email, and not in BTC. Project owners should be able to spot email spoofing, those who can’t should not issue a coin. The communication process/method tells a lot about a coin,” the Binance head scolded.

“You are a Fucking Liar”

Mr. Zhao further mused publically how much of what amounts to dissatisfaction with Binance is just sour grapes. “All complaints about listing fee come from projects we did not list, ie, did not charge (did not even ask for a fee). It’s not the fee, it’s the project. Granted, there are many great projects out there we haven’t listed. Working on it,” he ended his Twitter rant. He went on to explain how he’s not involved in listing quotes for Binance.

For his part, Mr. Franko of Expanse didn’t take Mr. Zhao’s tweets seriously. “You are a fucking liar. It’s that simple,” he tweeted a few hours later. “Right here,” Mr. Franko noted angrily, while attaching a chart (see below), “it shows that binance uses Google Apps (gmail) for MX.. Just like the signed email said it did… You cant fake the encryption buddy.  Punching down like this is beneath you.”

And along those same lines, Mr. Franko chastised, “Instead of addressing it like a good leader and honorable man, he has decided to just come at me like this. The encryption doesnt lie. It came from his gsuite. The responsible way to handle things would be to approach me directly and get it straightened out. Not attack me.”
