Ok first, i want to add a little of my thoughts. It's from take the world by storm;

By the lyrics, i think that stick just stood at the bottom of the sea first, and (knowing they can't lift it) the dragon built the palace around him next, so atm stick is just some a big old pillar to dragon. But one day he looks at stick and thought "wait the minute, this grand colomn is powerful right?! Let's use all its power for me." Thus he built the machine. I bet dragon didn't bother to look at stick at all before stick sparked his vision. Once stick did, he seemed to adore stick by saying that he is the rebel that will unleash stick's monumental potential. He said it as if he knew stick.

But for 5000 years, stick only waiting for one person, and that person is the most powerful being, that is monkey. Though we know that monkey at that moment is not yet the most powerful being, stick chose him. Monkey, on the other hand, found a big pillar and as soon as it talked, he knew it was the ultimate weapon he searched for. He didn't even go to the dragon king like he was told, he had just found a talking stick at the bottom of the sea right in the middle of some tacky palace and immediately chose him to be his weapon, said that they can help each other. Monkey only want stick in the same way stick only want monkey. They are so choosing each other.

I feel like stick actually cares when dragon come, but yep his mind is as muddled as monkey's so there's no hostility,, they also reacted in the same way, get excited upon seeing dragon. They share one brain cell after all.

Peak analysis.

The thought of stick and monkey as a single entity but still two different persons is sooooooo beautiful. Because yess yess yesss 😭 monkey did said, two against one, while he accused lin and buddha of cheating,, and yess he said, the world need us, as monkey and stick, not just monkey. You right, lin, what a team.

I DIDN'T KNOW STICK HAD A VA!! And that he sang the theme song—nice trivia you got there. Now cant stop thinking that the "monkey king!" shout during the theme song is stick's.

I have the same question lol!! Why stick know more about monkey abilities than monkey himself?? And stick knowledge of the scrolls of life and death? I mean boy, you were inactive for 5000 years! And you don't even have a life— Stick is mysterious.. i get it, someone had to show monkey his powers and team chose stick, but i would kill to have stick that is somehow not as innocent as we think

stick jumps into action and carries the battle, but he prioritises monkey's safety

he is a go-getter, taking the lead to take his new friend forward. he is a driving force that enables monkey to do what he does. he is excitable, violent, eager to please. stick has never been used in so long, he has a lot of pent up energy just bursting to get out. he protects monkey, but he is obedient to the point of losing his self by taking things literally. this should teach monkey how he works, that he is dependent on his wielder, his master, and that's why he couldn't have left the palace or dragon himself. he is a tool, who's entire existence is in the hands of whoever possesses him. he wants to be used and be useful. he wants to serve a purpose

monkey tells stick what to do, he listens, monkey tells stick to stop, he does so. and stick will do the best possible thing for them to show monkey what they are capable of together, giving him the confidence to trust his weapon as much as stick's chosen to trust him, that no matter what happens as long they communication, they will have each other's back

stick shares monkey's joys and sorrows. he cheers along the troop for his new name and groans when it seemed monkey got sad. they share excitement and aggressive tendencies too

they are more like a single entity with two equal parts rather than a pair, but it's not wrong to call them that either. mind & body, heart & soul, in action they are one, as people they are two, but must be kept together in order to work perfectly. stick is an extension of monkey, and monkey is an extension of stick. they match each others freak save for minor differences in preference and personality. when not in use, stick stands on his own, he reacts similarly as monkey, turns to him, and provides emphasis for the occasional words. he is completely supportive and always by his side if only a foot apart or at arms length, never out of reach

monkey is the same in the way that he values stick's own desires that are seemingly separate from himself. he is considerate of his weapon's wants despite having no impact or benefit to his own except maybe boost his ego. they share an ambition, yet something so minor like playing the guitar is so important to him because it's something stick wants. he didn't even ask if stick wanted anything, he already has him in mind, it was a matter of what and absolute that he gets it

the theme song is sung by stick's voice actor, the singer "ultimate screaming master" aka nan li from voodoo kungfu, an outstanding "world heavy metal music" band. so you could say stick wrote and sang a song about monkey throughout their 99 demons together. I know the lyrics are from monkey himself, the words are his, stick is the music, together they create harmony

stick is bloodthirsty, and he is an artist. both actions are forms of self-expression after lying dormant for millenniums. the same can be said for monkey in that he created an imaginary family, paired with his and stick's signature head-bashing, skull-splitting move, except he does this in sought of attention for being deprived of it his entire childhood, stick has always been the center of, yet was never heard, and the only thought he wants and cares about is from monkey

it was his idea the way they defeat red girl, unpromptly suggested

stick left his "home", because he finally could. he was stolen from dragon, who housed him. he was found by monkey, who allows him to be. stick can't be on his own without his wielder's permission and even then they're in close proximity of each other. monkey allows for stick's autonomy and will to be as free as he can be. he treats stick like a person more than the actual people he interacts with, while dragon still treats stick as property even after discovering he could talk. he doesn't care that stick has feelings, he only wants to abuse his power

Monkey: “What's wrong, Stick? You know this chump?”

Dragon: “Stick? You never talked to me!”

when dragon showed up, this is the only time stick vocalised in a way that it aggravated monkey enough to close his ears. stick doesn't get to say anything else, and he doesn't have to because no one but monkey listens to him, he doesn't need an explanation to come to his friend's defence. the same way stick is in-between the demons and monkey, this time monkey is shielding stick from dragon. a former roommate, acts like a controlling parent or possessive ex

Monkey, to Dragon: “You love my Stick, everyone loves the stick, but no one appreciates Stick like I do.”

Stick: “[incessant urgent warbling]”

Monkey: “Quiet Stick, the grown-ups are talking.”

of course monkey isn't perfect either, in the heat of the moment he ignores stick to protect him, and stick never holds a grudge or resentment towards monkey for his blunders, only dragon was met with initial hostility, but then none at all for the rest of the movie. stick is never really even annoyed with his partner, it just seems like he loves everything about him and wants the best for him, because that would mean what's best for himself too

dragon tries to talk to stick to come back, but monkey says he only listens to him. dragon responds with "I don't see a ring on it, honey" which is from the euphemism for a marriage proposal. dragon clearly doesn't approve of their relationship though this implies that in order for them to be together, they need to be wedded

without monkey, stick doesn't have a will. without a person, he is useless. he has no life, no will to life. it's meaningless without monkey, who he's waited for forever

he laughs at his jokes, they share a sense of humour

stick knows about hell. he knows about the scrolls of life and death

he could not have learned this during the 100 demons slaying because monkey would have known. the reason why stick never mentioned "crossing your name to cancel your death in order to become immortal" is that monkey was under the impression he would win the immortal ones' approval by conquering demons like the elder lead them to believe. why stick never corrected him, this wasn't the mission. stick is at his service, not looking specifically for the most efficient way to do things. he is able to have fun and live his best life with monkey and if the adventure ends, what is there left to do? he wouldn't want to be abandoned again. so he answers monkey's questions because monkey asked, not because stick has an obligation to be conscious or aware of how things play out, but because he's literal and needs to be direct with. whatever it is, he will enable monkey's desires, because what he wants, they both do

they argue about bringing lin along, in which stick advocates for her and scolds monkey because he knows her worth and neither of them can read. if monkey completely owns stick, why would he allow him to knock some sense into himself and fight about something like this? does stick actually have free will to be independent and has merely been sassily playing with monkey and dragons feelings because he enjoys the attention of those two competing for him, or does monkey allow stick to be his own person without the restraint of pleasing his ego in that he is cared for even if he doesn't like it because he subconsciously understands he can't do everything on his own and needs stick to be his conscience too, for both their sakes

their expressions often mirror each other, the way they move even apart is in sync, and they exchange glances, like you do with your best friend

stick also knows about cloning, which he also never told monkey that he knows they can both apparently do. the situation called for it so it's pretty reasonable, but why does stick know more about monkey's abilities than he himself does?

steroids, another song by voodoo kungfu, is used during the fight

although apparently stick didn't know enough as "cancelling your death date" only makes you half-immortal, but monkey immediately blames lin despite it being entirely stick's idea

stick is already immortal, he's an eternal object and looks good for above 5,000 years old. he just needs to keep his friend, who he's known for at least a couple years, alive. least he becomes alone again

stick finds monkey's prank on lin hilarious, monkey makes him laugh

stick sings along with monkey while they search for lin, he yells at her after too

monkey considers stick his best friend and family

stick doesn't care to say anything during the entire peach grove scene. not about benbo & babbo, not about dragon, even though he was used to jab at him. monkey is drugged, therefore his mind isn't intact, which seemingly affects stick's behaviour as well in that he isn't very conscious. they both get knocked ou

he jolts awake after monkey does

stick is empathetic, monkey is apathetic. there is a little bit of the other to them in a yin-yang sense, because stick only empathises with monkey, and maybe lin twice on-screen, while monkey has no consideration for anyone but himself, stick, and eventually lin to an extent. they only care for each other, as stick isn't concerned about anyone else, but monkey does in a way. both for selfish reasons

stick cannot be wielded by a baby monkey, he goes to sleep

monkey tells stick to help lin, he shrinks down for her to use

he sleeps again when monkey is kicked through the roof

despite being unconscious, stick extends himself towards monkey to give the elixir

stick is just as excited as monkey is, if not more, and is ready to fight, but when lin falls, he got worried for her too

lin teases monkey, talking to stick, and he laughs with her. he isn't above laughing at his friend's expense and with someone other than him no less, someone monkey handed him over to in the moment. he was trusted with to assist her and wasn't even aware of lin's attempt to steal him away. if monkey was a controlling master and stick the obedient weapon that he is, how is it that he's able to freely make fun of his own best friend? monkey shuts him up, and he complies, but the fact is while he is always supportive of monkey, he is capable of poking fun at and arguing with him too, usually provoked

stick is left alone with lin again, and is promptly sold out

"momentary fling" sir this is a family movie

stick is inactive throughout his entire hold in dragon's clutches. he is nothing but a prize to be won, a tool to be abused. monkey may need him in every battle to win, but stick has been a damsel-in-distress twice. he is handled by dragon, forced back into a machine that awakens and makes him grow. none of this he chose, none he wanted, he can't leave without help. while he is fulfilling a purpose, he isn't doing this out of his own will. he doesn't choose dragon and doesn't consent to being used this way, but it doesn't matter because dragon doesn't need his compliance, as long the machine works and he's useful

they are so happy to see each other, and missed one another so much,,,

stick is devoted to monkey. he enables him, needs him for his entire being and existence. if it were to be anyone in the universe he will always choose monkey. caught in the middle of the final battle, despite the brief grasp dragon has on him, he is able to fight for his self because monkey is there for him to return to and fall back on. to live in utter depravity under someone who only takes from and forces you into doing his bidding, it's not living at all. monkey gives him a life, stick lives for him and gets to be himself because he's allowed to be as much of a person any object is capable of

monkey is incredibly significant to stick. he is his entire world, and the same goes for him to monkey

they're separated again, the last thing he heard was monkey's desperate cry of his name after he couldn't handle buddha's clutch

lin found stick, either by chance or he called out to her. and he shrank for her once more so she could easily reunite him with his monkey. he doesn't even know she's the one who gave him away, but I don't think he'd hold it against her. he's a staff, not human or demon with complex thoughts and feelings. a simple stick who has a colourful personality, vibrant soul, and passion for music

he flies right into monkey's hold thanks to lin

monkey is stick's home, he is his best friend, his family, his life. they are symbiotic and co-dependent, for breaking them apart would leave them wrecked on their own, one completely helpless and the other out of his mind. there is a fear of abandonment within stick and separation anxiety in monkey, but only one of them has the ability to do something about it, and monkey allows for stick to be unbound by his own ego. they're a team, each others comfort

they meditate together, being one with each other, and stick is just as important as monkey because "the world needs us"

to summarise; stick is a deeply emotional, straight-forward, fun-loving, whimsical, thrill-seeking sentient weapon who's been deprived of activity for thousands of years, which affected the way he expresses himself through bloodthirsty violence and screaming, but he does have an ambition to learn and play the guitar, already being a singer himself. it is a creative outlet for him to release all that pent up energy when he lay dormant, and is allowed the freedom to live a life he wants alongside the one person who values and loves him for who he is

in conclusion... they are both crazy, and stick likes that about monkey

Praskovya and Mauve?

           Starting with Mauve she’s the clans local weirdo. her most immediately noticeable feature(though the sprite doesn’t show it) is her lack of wings. Both having been amputated when she was young, she likes to give wildly inconsistent answer as to how though whenever someone asks (ex..”I lost them in a game of poker.”,”traded them to a bear for all his teeth.”) 

           She’s the only pearlcatcher in Lowdown which alone would have been gossip-worthy without her eccentricities. Some rumor that her pearl is made of hatchling tears. She currently runs a hex shop in the Upper Slums, I say shop but it’s more of a “Give me random obscure and possibly unlawful things and I’ll make something unfortunate happen.” A dark and macabre figure who’s loyalties and desires are as enigmatic as the dragon herself. 

         Next is Praskovya! As both defacto Leader, and the outer towns representative to the Fae Kingdom that runs Lowdown, Pras is a well beloved figure. Her leadership has lead Lowdown from a group of refugees crowded around a hive of Fae isolationist into a bustling community. Pras run the city of Lowdown alongside her husband, Sven, the town Shaman and only other tundra.         She has a deep love for the dragons of Lowdown, viewing all of them with the same maternal affection one would have for their own children. Pras has been trying with increasing desperation to rid Lowdown and the Fae Kingdom of the class divide that she believes only weakens them as a people.  Their Relationship!:            The best way I could describe Mauve and Praskovya’s relationship would be......tense. Sure Pras will be entirely diplomatic in all of her engagements with the eccentric mystic but that doesn’t mean she enjoys her company in the slightest. The source of Praskovya’s ire with Mauve stemming entirely from the relationship the pearlcatcher has with her husband Sven.         As two of the only three dragons in Lowdown possessing of magic(The other being a Fae named Rose) Sven and Mauve naturally became something of friends. Now that was no problem to Praskovya in the slightest! In fact, at first she was delighted her shy, socially anxious husband was making some friends. But then they started spending more and more time together. Soon Sven was shutting himself away in his study with the witch for hours even nights on end, much to the discontent of his wife.    Truth be told there is nothing nefarious going on(for once!) between Mauve and the quiet mystic. Simply a new friend to study and explore deep, complex magical theories with without judgment. But once Mauve noticed the Ambassadors jealousy? Oh all bets were off, if the pearlcatcher has one fatal fault it’s a love of poking fun at authority. Mauve now delights in riling up the level-head tundra whenever she can. It’s all in good fun though, and despite her ceaseless pestering the dragon considers Praskovya a friend. Short One-Shot:    “Oh there you are, Prasy.” Came the sinister chuckle of a certain skull-headed witch. Praskovya heard the Pearlcatcher approach; long before she ever spoke. Her voice a low accented tone that promised nothing but misery for the Ambassador. While the Tundra woman could have left at any point she knew Mauve would find her and the torment would be inevitable.    Turning her head slightly to angle her mouth back at the witch; Praskovya spoke in her practiced dignify manner. “I thought I requested you cease referring to me as “Prasy”.” Of course she knew that would never stop her. The woman always did what she wanted, no matter the consequences it had on herself or others. ‘Dangerous, unpredictable.’ Praskovya reminded herself ‘Don’t let your guard down.’   “Oh and miss out on the way your snout scrunches up in disgust whenever I use it?“ Mauve’s lithe body wound around Praskovya’s wings to show the dragons smug expression at the corner of her vision. “Perish the thought.“ she spoke with a smirk. Praskovya wouldn’t deign that with a response.   She simply returned to reading through the many official documents laid out on her work desk. ‘The guard reports increasing activity on the southern border...’...‘New fault lines have opened in deeper caverns...’ “Prasy~” ‘King Thornbane requests an audience with the strange Fae girl..Rose..I think her name was?‘ “Pras?“ ‘Farmers report another small harvest this year...Maybe I can convince the Queen to lend us some Fae farmers? their magic always keeps their fields in top condition....‘    “Praskovya!“ The tundra was shaken out of her thoughts by a roar in her ear. Praskovya wheeled her head around to give the witch a piece of her mind. But the quiet concern in the dragons tilted head gave her pause. “Are you feeling well?“ Mauve’s normal playful deviousness was replaced with a low pressing tone. Praskovya had never heard the witch speak with such genuine emotion before, perhaps she had misjudged the woman?

Saw you've been sucked into the MMO life in the form of FFXIV and I was wondering if you had any input into the debate I've been having about what class archetypes tfw would play. I think Sam would be most likely to tank because it requires a reasonable amount of leadership and is also more of a quiet, backbone type role compared to dps. Dean seems more the type to be singularly focused on the big damage hits tbh. He also tends to take more of the charging in and fighting role in their normal life with Sam being the one reading up on everything more carefully and being his backup. Which leaves Cas as healer which may just be me projecting because I play healer/support at every opportunity but literal angel healing aside I think that sorta fits too, he cares a lot for them and tries to keep them safe and shield them as best he can in their adventures? Idk half formed thoughts please completely contradict me if you want I'm genuinely curious about other people's opinions here

If you’d asked me back when I was a WoW player I’d have fully agreed because you could only have one class per character and these are definitely the snap decisions that the fam would make when on the character screen. Dean would grab the sexiest DPS, Sam the stoutest tank especially as he’s the one who has read into the classes and strats beforehand, and Cas would ask what to do and be given the healer role because the other two in this scenario would know better about the game and sort of lump it onto him like, oh, we need a healer and you can do this.

(In my own gaming journey, this is what my friends and brother did to me, as they needed a healer to round out their party... I took druid because it was spoopy, and discovered in WoW that while you can’t change classes you can pay gold to respec your character’s role within that class... Promptly re-specced to a melee dps/tank feral druid instead of the healer one, and had a lot more fun :D)  

In FFXIV you can take all the classes on your character (which I have done, natch) and it’s a much more interesting levelling approach, especially seeing how my friends playing the game have gone when it comes to taking classes as they level and why they claim to have tried and then rejected others. It’s an enormous personality test, even for peeps like me and my brother who have all the classes up at max level, which ones we prioritised and which ones we sort of struggled with or found a bit meh. 

Hm so in the scenario that Charlie comes bursting into the Bunker demanding that she needs some friends for dungeons and raids and they’re all sitting on their asses scrolling the internet between a case, they can bloody well play final fantasy with her for a bit, let’s go for some headcanons :D Long because FFXIV has become my current obsession and I have the same in-depth feels about it as I do about SPN but I just never get to write about them with anyone... 

First off, Sam of course has deep nerdery about it and will ask Charlie a ton of questions about what the right class to play is and do the same thing as we’ve already discussed and go for Paladin (which starts as gladiator), and also take all the crafting and gathering side classes because he’s a nerd and you learn nonsense lore while doing it. He’s also in the same starting zone as Thaumaturge which transitions to Black Mage and I BET he’d be tempted to have a little safe witch!Sam emotional release on the most un-Sam class. It’s the big unwieldy spell caster whose literal class quests and stuff make fun of how you’re small and squishy and will be standing in a very bad spot debating whether to finish a long-cast spell and get hit or stop DPS and run for safety. I think he could do with the perspective and learning to be selfish either way to blow off steam from tanking and also learn to prioritise himself IRL :’D Also the paladin quest is WEIRDLY pro-cop from 30 onwards for some reason until the writers saw sense and just. stopped. doing paladin stuff and went back to the Gladiator storyline for the class quests, so idk if he’d enjoy that or start to question other things. Whatever it is he’s getting challenged XD

At 60 he grabs Gunbreaker because it sounds more cool and is thankfully way less emotionally stressful tanking as it’s entirely about being a badass bodyguard and sick flips. This is far more aspirational for Sam, especially as he could just tie a knife to a sawn off shotgun and do these moves for real in his day job. He won’t, but like with black mage, the thought that he COULD is very emotionally satisfying to him.

He might also have decided to check out scholar to see how healing is but idk if he would be able to handle Dean teasing him for having a fairy follow him around so he’d only dabble with the nerd class on the side :P  

Now, Dean can’t take ninja until level 10 or machinist (gun shooty DPS class) until 50, so his start point as DPS would either be pugilist (eeeey brass knuckle class!) or the other DPS classes to start with are Thaumaturge/Black Mage, Arcanist/Summoner, Archer or Lancer. Now. He’d probably think the first two are sissy because magic is for girls/arcanists literally only have a book as a weapon. Archer becomes bard and I think is ultimately a place he’d be very happy as it is a very supportive class to the whole party and basically the mom friend class. But I would love if he went lancer/dragoon because the level 50 class weapon is (folklore inspired name) “Gae Bolg” and every time I equip it I can’t help giggling at the name even though I know it’s a real thing and I shouldn’t. But. Like. It’s the class about waving enormous lances around. It’s got Implications, and Dean is drawn to those. 

He’d probably, however, take rogue/ninja as soon as he could because stabbing things with knives, and the class trainer is the kinda guy who’d have wild gay tension with him while they both try to boast about women to each other, were they to meet irl. Ironically, the rogue trainer (a womanising charmer) and the ninja trainer (an intense, honourable guy bad at social cues even among his own people who ends up falling from grace and choosing to stay in the vicinity of said rogue trainer) are an interesting pair of NPCs to teach Dean about where to stick knives. :) 

He’d go back and power-level dragoon once he starts Heavensward though, because Aymeric is also super intense with messy dark hair and big blue eyes that see right through you. :D He’s getting that gae bolg for him, you know? 

If they’re going to bully Cas to be their healer, he’d probably get really dedicated to the discipline especially as he can stay up all night to play and doesn’t need to take breaks to pee so he’d probably level conjurer/white mage (nature healing) and scholar (ancient book lore with a class quest which mixes ancient curses on a whole people, family drama and a bit of interspeciesish love) and then also pick up astrologian, which is good because it’s spooky star and making your own fate magic. The storyline for that is garbage in the sense that it’s really weakly written, but my favourite character randomly picks up AST in the latest expansion, and has an absolutely fucking wild subtextual romance with another character, including SPN level adopting of a random child who matches Jack in many respects, with said character. And in many respects emotionally they’re Cas and Dean but without any of the personal baggage between them specifically so they really are just chill and married, whatever else they’re stressed about (I say, dreading the next patch is going to finally bring up some questions about what is going on with them as it’s getting weirdly conspicuous while still utterly unsaid). So I would hope if Cas started projecting onto an astrologian character it would be him :P 

Cas also would get into summoner as the other branch of scholar because honestly those two classes are about as close to the random sigil drawing and reading things from books etc analogy to his own occult magic, except you can summon cool dragons and elementals to fight for you.

Excuse me but how was Rhaegar an amazing person? He left his wife and kids, annulled a marriage basically leaving rightful heirs nothing and turning them into bastards by law. He further complicated things that led to the Targaryen fall. His actions played a part in the Targaryens almost be coming extinct. Don't sound like a great person but someone who was selfish and naive. I don't get thwe worship he gets. It's undeserved.

You are talking about the show, I was talking about the books.

About the show - I am not sure that annulling a marriage turns the children into bastards. I cannot speak for the worlduilding of the show, because it is very inconsistent and lacking of logic, but in the books King Aegon IV Targaryen tried to annul his marriage to his sister-wife Naerys, claiming that their son Daeron was fathered not by him but by their brother Aemon the Dragonknight. Princess Daenerys was already born at that time (Aegon didn’t accuse her of being fathered by Aemon), and it wasn’t mentioned that she might be retrograded to the rank of bastard if the King had his way (at the end Aegon couldn’t annul his marriage because Naerys was defended by Aemon during her trial by combat). And in European history, Eleanor of Aquitaine annulled her marriage to King Louis VII and their daughters remained legitimate (I am not very knowlegeable about history though, this is the only case I know). So it’s very likely that Rhaegar’s children by Elia did remain legitimate. In the books, I very much doubt any annulment will happen because it is a very complicated procedure. It is not possible to simply set aside a royal marriage by asking a septon.

About the books - a lot of things here.

1. You say you don’t get the “worship” Rhaegar gets - you have to take it up with Westerosi though, because they do worship him. Nobody in the novels apart from Robert ever said anything negative about Rhaegar, not even Eddard Stark (to the big dismay of Rhaegar haters lol). He is something like a legendary figure akin to Aemon the Dragonknight (not legendary yet because he died recently, less than 15 years prior to the novels, so many who knew him are still alive, but in a century he’ll join Aemon’s rank, and you can bet songs will be sung about him). Rhaegar’s harp and rubies are well-known in the popular culture of Westeros. Very different characters like Cersei, Jaime, Tywin, Jorah, Maester Aemon, Barristan, Jon Connington, and countless others only have good memories of him. Neither Oberyn Martell and Doran Martell - so Elia’s brothers - ever talked badly of Rhaegar either. One of the Freys is named Rhaegar, and people react to that with derision - how dare a Frey carry Rhaegar’s name:

I had the Freys to supper. One sat just where you’re sitting now. Rhaegar, he named himself. I almost laughed right in his face.

^ This is a quote by a minor Lord on some tiny island in the middle of nowhere, who probably never even met Rhaegar.

[…] his nephew Rhaegar [Frey], that smirking worm who wears a dragon’s name.

And this is a quote by Wyman Manderly, a Northener and an supporter of House Stark, so you’d think he’d have no reason to speak in favor of Rhaegar (with the story of him raping Lyanna being official because of Robert), but that’s how much Rhaegar was beloved. And also, although Robert’s lie about Lyanna being raped is the accepted story, no one talks about it either. As if people have difficulties believing that Rhaegar could do something like that. Barristan thinks that Rhaegar was the best Targaryen he knew beside Daenerys, and he knew quite a lot of them. He knew King Aegon V (Master Aemon’s brother) and his family, and everyone who came after him, yet Rhaegar impressed him most of all. And Rhaegar was best friends with Arthur Dayne! And Arthur Dayne is another legend-to-be.

I think Rhaegar was amazing because everyone except Robert thinks he was amazing. I don’t see why should I dismiss hundreds of positive memories from dozens of very different characters, and believe only one negative report from Robert Baratheon, a man who was not a good person (and we know it’s false, Lyanna fell in love with Rhaegar). 

Arthur Dayne! Barristan who loved Rhaegar! Tywin who said Rhaegar would have been an amazing King! Rhaegar’s reputation is unblemished, like a diamond.

2. Rhaegar didn’t “leave” or “abandon” his wife and his children. Firstly, Elia was not someone Rhaegar fell in love with - theirs was an arranged political marriage. (But even if they were in love - and they weren’t - people are allowed to fall out of love I think, no? Rhaegar was not a womanizer, he didn’t frequent brothels, for all we know Elia was his first woman. If he fell in love with Lyanna, he had the right to pursue a relation with her.) Rhaegar was away for a time, and he left Elia and his children in a safe place with all the comfort needed. Please don’t think that the Red Keep was a bad place for them. Aerys was erratic and cruel, that’s true, but he was so with everyone (Rhaegar included), and he was never violent toward Rhaegar’s family - and apart from him all the court was there, Rhaella who was nothing but lovely and Viserys who was a child and four of the Kingsguards, gold cloaks and other guards and Ladies in waiting. King’s Landing was one of the most secure places in the Kingdoms. Rhaegar obviously didn’t leave forever. He would have come back with Lyanna and their child, to raise his three children together, to prepare them for the War for the Dawn.

EDIT: I was made aware that Rhaegar left Elia and their children at Dragonstone, not in the Red Keep

As cold winds hammered the city, King Aerys II turned to his pyromancers, charging them to drive the winter off with their magics. Huge green fires burned along the walls of the Red Keep for a moon's turn. Prince Rhaegar was not in the city to observe them, however. Nor could he be found in Dragonstone with Princess Elia and their young son, Aegon. With the coming of the new year, the crown prince had taken to the road with half a dozen of his closest friends and confidants, on a journey that would ultimately lead him back to the riverlands. Not ten leagues from Harrenhal, Rhaegar fell upon Lyanna Stark of Winterfell.

Elia was in the Red Keep when Rhaegar returned because Aerys must have summoned her.

3. Now, about the Others. There is a very old prophecy, made long ago in Valyria, about the Prince that was Promised, and another prophecy (probably it’s the same prophecy but we don’t know yet) that said the “Doom of Man” will come from Westeros. This is the main reason why Valyrians came to Westeros and why Aegon Targaryen decided to conquer and unite it - he and his sisters wanted to prepare Westeros for this Doom, and their family to fight it. Valyrians were sorcerers and even though much of their magic was lost with time after the Doom of Valyria, Targaryens still carried some magic within them.  Several of Targaryens had prophetic dreams (our Daenerys has them too), and I am more than sure Rhaegar had that ability as well (the tales of Dunk and Egg that GRRM was writing around the same time he wrote the first three novels feature two Targaryens with prophetic dreams, and I do not think GRRM included them in the novels randomly. I believe he wanted the readers to link it with Rhaegar).

Since the time Rhaegar was a child, he decided to dedicate his life to the War for the Dawn, and prepare himself to fight the Others. This required an exceptional amount of intelligence and selflessness. He was a child! Not an adult, not a teenager, but a child, and he chose this path in life by himself alone. How many children do you know, who upon learning that monsters or some cataclysmic event will attempt to destroy the world, say “I will face this threat and fight to protect the world”? The maturity and self-sacrifice he showed at such a young age is astounding. 

Rhaegar at first believed that his destiny was to fight the Others, and when he found out that the Prince that was Promised should be a warrior, he started to train in arms although it wasn’t somethig he liked.

“As a young boy, the Prince of Dragonstone was bookish to a fault. He was reading so early that men said Queen Rhaella must have swallowed some books and a candle whilst he was in her womb. Rhaegar took no interest in the play of other children. The maesters were awed by his wits, but his father’s knights would jest sourly that Baelor the Blessed had been born again. Until one day Prince Rhaegar found something in his scrolls that changed him. No one knows what it might have been, only that the boy suddenly appeared early one morning in the yard as the knights were donning their steel. He walked up to Ser Willem Darry, the master-at-arms, and said, ‘I will require sword and armor. It seems I must be a warrior.’”

“Prince Rhaegar’s prowess was unquestioned, but he seldom entered the lists. He never loved the song of swords the way that Robert did, or Jaime Lannister. It was something he had to do, a task the world had set him. He did it well, for he did everything well. That was his nature. But he took no joy in it. Men said that he loved his harp much better than his lance.”

Certainly many of his decisions and actions were motivated not only by prophecies and his readings, but by his prophetic dreams as well.  

As the time passed however, Rhaegar started to believe that this Prince was his son Aegon instead of him. Maester Aemon recalls that:

“No one ever looked for a girl,” he said. “It was a prince that was promised, not a princess. Rhaegar, I thought … the smoke was from the fire that devoured Summerhall on the day of his birth, the salt from the tears shed for those who died. He shared my belief when he was young, but later he became persuaded that it was his own son who fulfilled the prophecy, for a comet had been seen above King’s Landing on the night Aegon was conceived, and Rhaegar was certain the bleeding star had to be a comet.”

And Rhaegar wanted to have three children, three dragons, to fight in the war:

“He is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of ice and fire.” He looked up when he said it and his eyes met Dany’s, and it seemed as if he saw her standing there beyond the door. “There must be one more,” he said, though whether he was speaking to her or the woman in the bed she could not say. “The dragon has three heads.”

And Elia couldn’t have another child - it would have killed her. We don’t know yet what made Rhaegar choose Lyanna - he discovered that she was the Knight of the Laughing Tree  (that’s how they met), kept her secret, and they communicated for a year after that before eloping together. It may be that he saw that Lyanna was a warrior woman and thought that their child would be a great warrior too. It may be that he saw her in his prophetic dreams. Or it may even be that during their communications he let her know about the War for the Dawn and Lyanna chose willingly to help. We will discover more about their relationship in the next two books - there is much we don’t know still, including the reason for their disappearance.

Whatever the version though, Rhaegar’s actions were absolutely not selfish and naive. All he did, he did it to save the world. It was the right thing to do. He couldn’t possibly know that Robert’s Rebellion would happen, no more than he could know that Tywin would order Gregor Clegane to kill his children by Elia. Rhaegar’s actions resulted in his death and the deaths of his first children, but they also directly resulted in Daenerys and Jon being born, the two main characters who will defeat the Others. Without them, the world would have been lost, so in the end Rhaegar didn’t fight in vain.

Rhaegar was exceedingly intelligent and skilled. He was a great warrior but he never liked violence. He was a talented musician and singer, he wrote and sang and played all his songs, that never failed to make people weep for their sadness and beauty. He was always kind to people, he is beloved and admired by the smallfolk and nobles alike, his memory is held in the highest regard throughout Westeros. He dedicated his life to the War for the Dawn. He had a beautiful melancholic soul. And he was the most gorgeous human on Earth. Rhaegar entirely deserves the worship he gets.

1.    if someone wanted to reallyunderstand you, what would they read, watch, and listen to? So if someone really wanted to understandme and my strange little brain they should probably read my fanfiction. Myfanfics show them my writing style, parts of my personality and my interests.They would of course have to watch the Thunderbirds because I swear it is all Italk about, well that and funny animal videos! I got my dad watching them lol.As to that they would have to listen to… probably everything. Like peopletalking around them, the sounds of birds, cars, electronics. I am a veryobservant person so when I am out in public I pay attention to everything. Itend to notice things others don’t.

2.    have you ever found a writer whothinks just like you? if so, who? I did a while back, sadly I don’t remember theirhandle, the plot was well thought out and detailed, which I enjoy. And I havemet people who think like I do. They see things differently. It is veryinteresting.

3.     list your fandoms and one character from each that you identify with. Well fandoms, guess what’s first!Thunderbirds: Virgil. I feel like I identify with Virgil because he is verycaring and artistic. Which I would like to think I am. He would give anythingfor anyone, he is also very detailed oriented which I am as well. And I love him.

Anotherfandom would be The Flash, and I probably identify with Caitlyn most. She hastwo sides of herself, one side no one really knows, and the other dominant sidewhich everyone is familiar with.

A third fandom is Pacific Rim and I think Iidentify with Mako the most because she is underestimated and sets up tochallenges presented to her. She is very loyal and very a very independent thinker.

My fourth fandom would be MARVEL and I mean thereare so many characters how do I chose? Well if I had to I would choose either CaptainAmerica or Lady Sif. Both underestimated and want to do the right thing. Evenif they are not sure what the right thing is anymore.

4.    do you like your name?  isthere another name you think would fit you better? I do like my name. I find it veryfitting. Although I have always liked the name Mel, not Melody or Melony, justMel. She was a character in Digata Defenders and I loved her when I wasyounger.

5.    do you think of yourself as ahuman being or a human doing? do you identify yourself by the things you do? Kind of confusing but I will tryto answer… I believe for now I am a human being, just because I am young I havenot come to realize how I change and become a doer. I do stand by the things I do,if someone is being rude, I fight back, someone needs help, I help. I don’tbelieve in hiding who you are because you won’t have the full life experience youwant if you always have to hide a part of yourself.

7.    do you care about your ethnicity?I don’treally care, but I do care. I know what background I am, but I don’t know muchabout the history of my people (French and Scottish). I know more about my Scottishside because I Highland Dance, and I know a bit about my French side because I usedto live in Ontario, but to me it is not the ethnicity that makes my familyimportant, it is the people in the family. I actually rarely think about myhistorical background, and I only mention it when it is privy to aconversation.

9.    are you an artist? I would like to think so… Idabble in computer generated art and I try to draw, but mostly I do little claysculpture and tiny meticulous things like robotics. And if writing counts as anart than I am an avid writer and take great pride in my work!

11.  describe your ideal day. An ideal day to the lazy teenager inside me would beto get up and do nothing… but I guess I would wake up late morning, have a hotchocolate, scroll through my feed, email, messages, etc, then I would probably havesome lunch and spend the afternoon doing something with my family. In the eveningI would then do Sculpey (clay) or write or attempt to draw.

13.  inside or outdoors? I do enjoy both. I grew up where in the summer you would go swimming andhiking and in the winter you would ski and snowmobile and go snowshoeing. So Ido enjoy being outside doing things, doesn’t matter what. Although I do likethe idea of sitting inside wrapped in a blanket with a hot drink and a show orfanfic.

15.  five most influential books over your lifetime. Sadly I don’t read that much…but I would have to say Meg Cabot’s School for Teenage Spies series was veryinfluential. It taught me how a young woman could accomplish great things withthe proper training.

Other than that Goodnight Moon, the kids book,still influences me today. When I lived in Ontario my grandmother lived inAlberta, and every night she would phone me and read me this book. Then whenshe was in hospital I read it to her, and she read it to me when I was in thehospital. Even today, because my grandma grew up in a household that didn’treally say ‘I love you’, we say Goodnight Moon whenever we hang up or I leaveher place.

16.  if you’d grown up in a different environment, do you think you’d haveturned out the same? If thisquestion means like nature environment, I think personality wise I would be thesame, but I don’t know if I would enjoy the same things. Like the freshlyfallen snow in the morning or those cold frosted trees, or the heavy rain thatmade you realize how weird and wonderful the world is.

17.  would you say your tumblr is a fair representation of the “real you”? Yes, I can honestly say it doesbecause everyone knows that on Tumblr there are no boundaries. You get toexpress who you are with no shame. Although to be fair I don’t hide who I am onany of my social media sites. You can see by these answers :P

19.  which Harry Potter house would you be in? or are you a muggle? I don’t know Harry Potter but Ihave been called a Hufflepuff? And I just like that name.

21.  do you love easily? I do… I am a very naive person and I am very caring so I tend to investeverything I have into relationships, hoping to keep them alive, only to find outmost of the time the other person doesn’t feel the same way. Relationshipsbeing friend or potential love interest seeing as I have never had a bf. But there are those few who care just as much as I do

22.  list the top five things you spend the most time doing, in order.

1.Daydreaming, by far the thing I spend the most time on.

2. Probablythinking about or doing something pertaining to the Thunderbirds, kind of fitsin with the daydreaming thing.

3. Creating, either writing or sculpting ordrawing.

4. Watchingvideos… I have a lot of spare time on my hands

5. Mostlikely doing something else on my phone.

23.  how often would you want to see your family every year? With my immediate family (mom,dad, grandma) I am very close, so I would want to see them as often aspossible. I see my grandma about once ever week or so but I talk to her a lotmore than that and I would like that to continue if  I ever decide to moveout. :P

25.  could you live as a hermit? If that means alone… probably not for long. I enjoycertain human interaction, so as long as I am with the right people. Other peopleannoy me, most people annoy me… anyway...

27.  do you feel like your outside appearance is a fair representation of the“real you”? Yesbecause I don’t wear certain cloths to fit in, I don’t wear makeup to look overlyattractive and I don’t pretend around people. I dress for practicality and eventsand I don’t change who I am to feed the needs of the people around me. To quotePeggy Carter from Agent Carter, “I know my worth, anyone else’s  opinion doesn’t really matter.”

28.  three songs that you connect with right now. I don’t really feel like Iconnect to music, I just like music. If that makes sense. I don’t feel and emotionalattachment with music other than the odd motivational songs or just reallyupbeat songs. So I guess those songs would be Warriors by Imagine Dragons, WhoDo You Love by Marianas Trench and Waka Waka by Shakira.
