This is so wonderfully and thoroughly thought out 😫 Down to the core reason of how and why Amber and Tara bonded so well. It is quite brutal to think that Tara knew Amber chased almost all others away except for that one very exclusive circle of friends but Tara still went with it and let Amber be because hey, she'd rather have one person fuss over her at all time than a bunch of ppl who just come and go. And Amber when she needed to ask for a pet dog no more 😬 But it fits, it fits so much to their narrative and their canon characteristics. If you put it this way, Amber was truly disturbed when Mindy implied Tara being the first and could still die. Because she did intend to let Tara live all along, Tara was unfortunately the collateral damage that she had to accept if she wanted to completely get Sam out of the picture. I would not say this is love, but perhaps to Amber it was, in a twisted way that she did (the simultaneous pride and irritation when Tara fought back). She did what she thought was the best for Tara.

Oh and Richie pried but Sam was too drunk she forgot she even talked to someone about Tara at all. Almost whenever she wasn't clouded by the haze of substances, she thought about Tara (did she do well at school now, did Christina spend more time with Tara now that she was gone, how was her health, did she grow taller and bigger, and surprisingly, after 5 years she didn't grow much and that only added to the immense pain and guilt because oh fuck she was extra small on that bed and how could her frail body go through that (oh gosh I digress)). But she could not bring herself to find out about her sister through any sources or even talk about her to anyone because it would be too much. If she let the gates open, she would be tempted to go and see her but that would risk hurting her too. So she resolutely would not talk to anyone about her baby sister (as far as she recalled). And when Deway asked Sam about Richie, no, he never expressed any interest in Woodsboro, yes, we talked about our fathers but he didn't push any farther then she allowed. But after it all came down, something reminded her of the few drunk moments she had with him, and oh, oh but he did ask about Tara and she did talk to him about her. The memory was still very vague she can not remember what she had shared specifically but she knew for sure he asked first and she answered. But does it even matter who initiated because she did talk to him about Tara and ultimately let him use her as a bait. That day she didn't know if she wanted to give Tara some distance away from this mess of a big sister or extra hugs because the guilt was eating her up so bad. Tara sensed her predicament somehow, or maybe she needed it too and Tara gave Sam some extra hugs that day.

@wabitham For you I will try and think about Amber and Tara. I started writing this and then you posted this, and I gotta say I agree with what you've written.

I decided to put a read more for a ramble, and add a summary of Amber and her relationship with Tara up here.

Amber is protective and possessive: once she determines she wants something or that something is hers, it's hers. Tara is one of those somethings.

Amber hates Sam because Tara still loves her despite hurting her, when Amber is the one who has been there for her.

Amber becomes Tara's person once Sam leaves. She pretty much relies on Amber for her entire emotional fulfilment, and Amber loves the feeling of power it gives her.

Amber has never been a people person, but she knows the world is easier with connections, and that it makes Tara happy, so hence the friendship group she associates with.

The year after her dad leaves is super hard on Tara, she ends up getting held back a year, much to her frustration. She was already older than her classmates, and now she's even older. Not to mention the embarrassment of being held back, of everyone whispering about you and staring at you all the time. It's like everyone knew what was going on in her life except her.

Amber has always been studious & mature for her age; she's at the top of her classes. When Tara is put into her grade, Amber is asked to help her assimilate back into the school environment and help her with her classwork. Everyone knows that they're already familiar with one another, and it's expected that that's what Tara needs in these trying times, a familiar face.

Amber doesn't think much of Tara at first, she doesn't really think much of anyone. People are just annoyances she has to deal with. She likes that Tara does what she says, even though she's older and people let her get away with things they wouldn't let others get away with. She's used that to her advantage sometimes, Tara would do anything for a smile and a compliment, Amber realises. She stops demanding her parents get her dog a month after being saddled with Tara.

It's just after Christmas, 4 months after receiving the role of Tara's tutor and buddy when The Incident happens and Amber begins to see Tara in a whole new light. She realises there's an anger inside of her, just like Amber, and it feels important to the girl somehow. She decides that Tara is no longer an obligation, she's hers.

So Amber becomes protective, possessive some (their friendship group) might say. Tara doesn't mind, so the others only grumble about it jokingly.

Amber hates Sam. Sam doesn't deserve the love and adoration her Tara heaps on her. Amber is the one who's always there, who sees her sadness and her tears. Amber is the one to hold her hand and cheer her up and help her with her school work and scare away the bullies. Sam is too busy getting drunk and fucking her way through every teenage boy in Woodsboro.

And Tara? She's needy. She's emotional and weak and she didn't realise how much she needed her sister until she wasn't really there any more. Then the world sends her Amber. Amber who couldn't stand her at first; carrying a dismissiveness that reminds her of her own mother. But it didn't matter, because she let Tara tag along and come home with her after school and she helped her with her homework even though it had to be frustrating for her sometimes. Tara just didn't want to be alone.

Skipping forward.

Sam leaves and Amber is all Tara has. She has her other friends sure, but they don't know her like Amber... or Sam. They don't fill her with comfort and radiate safety, they don't protect her like them. They don't love her like them. But Sam left and so she clings to Amber, and Amber doesn't push her away. She revels in it. Tara adores her and she takes advantage of it, curious; Tara's not unwilling, embarrassed, to curious to learn, to practise. She doesn't date though, Amber won't have that, she scares anyone who might try away. Amber doesn't share.

Years pass. She moves into the old Macher house. She develops a new obsession. She remembers the little secret Tara's mother once revealed to her. It consumes her. She speaks to people online about it, to others just like her who share her passion and her thoughts. She can't speak about things like this with Tara, Tara's too sensitive, Tara likes characters and stories and happy endings. They don't share this love.

She meets Richie. She let's it slip that she knows Billy Loomis' daughter. He makes a suggestion, she makes a suggestion. Before they know it they've got a plan and they've committed to carrying it out.

Amber pries when Tara's half asleep: have you talked to Sam lately? Do you ever wonder where she ended up, what she's been doing? Does she ever plan to come home? Tara reveals she knows where Sam is, she's been stalking her social media ever since she left, she never reaches out (if Sam wanted her in her life she would contact her, she would come home, Tara thinks). That's a surprise to Amber. Tara's never kept a secret from her. Of course it would be Sam's fault.

She tells Richie, and he begins his part of the plan. It takes him 2 months before Sam will even give him the time of day, another 2 before she ever opens up to him. They bond over shitty families and legacies left behind by their fathers and being disappointments, both of them skirting around the details. Until one day he catches Sam on Instagram, looking at a specific account. She reveals she has a little sister. He waits until she's drunk next, to bring up her little sister. He pries, and she talks about the little sister she loves so much who she abandoned. How much Tara must hate her. He asks if she would ever go back - not a chance - not even for your little sister? I would do anything for her. Even go back? Even go back.

It hurt Amber, doing what she did to Tara. But it had to be done. It irritates her and fills her with pride in equal measure when she fights back. Unfortunately, it means she gets a little more hurt than she intended. She shouldn't have fought back if she didn't want her leg broken. This was about Sam.

"This will all be over soon," she says as closes the cupboard door. She could convince Tara to keep her mouth shut, to say it was the robed and masked figure who tied her up and locked her away, that she didn't know who the Ghostfaces were. After all, once Sam is gone, Amber really will be the only one she has. But first Tara has to see. She wants her to see, to know she's all she has left. Tara's a good girl, she'll do as she's told.

It wasn't supposed to go down like this. Sam wasn't supposed to untie her.

Gale Dekarios The Wizard of Waterdeep ace-spec propaganda

Spoilers for Gale’s romance below the cut

I, an Aroace, have finished BG3 having romanced Gale and taken the route to “fix him” (I.e. encourage him that he is enough as he is and doesn’t need godly power, that his value does not depend on his power or talents or usefulness to others.)

Yes you make out a little in his romance scenes. Yes he says that he has been intimate with mortals before Mystra, and was Mystra’s lover.

BUT.

It is never stated that you have sex with him.

At most, it is implied that you are physically intimate in some way, primarily the post-game where he asks you to marry him, you wake up together and you can beckon him to come back to bed.

Even then, even when it is implied, Gale’s romance is entirely chaste. For a game so horny, a game so ready to let you fuck so many people, a game that gives you power to make your party hang out at camp in their underwear or even naked…

Astarion and Shadowheart definitely have topless/nude scenes. Karlach and La’zell express sexual attraction. Wyll is entirely unknown to me. But Gale, despite being very upfront about his feelings in some key moments, does not have a nude or partially nude cutscene. A game that loves showing or describing the sex you have with NPCs, and Gale has none of it.

Furthermore, the moment that stands out the most as possibly showing sexual attraction, in Act 2 when he comments about reading a book that links the rush of battle with desires for other “stimulation”. He is having such thoughts, but even as he says he wants Tav, it seems to be about pleasure and stimulation more than flat out sexual attraction.

As we all know, willingness to engage in sex and the experience of sexual attraction are different. Gale expresses a very ace or demi sort of relationship with sex- for him, it’s about pleasurable stimulation with a beloved person.

Take this in contrast with Halsin. In my game, Halsin came onto my Tav in the last night before the final battle. He spoke of natural desires, of wanting skin on skin etc. similar to how La’zell expresses a desire for Tav’s body in Act 1 or Karlach “ride you till you see stars”. Halsin, La’zell, and Karlach, all clearly express sexual attraction. Astarion is, well, Astarion. I don’t know Wyll very well, but his first romance scene is a dance and he gets such puppy eyes when you reject him. There is none of these things in Gale’s route.

One last thing, the compliments Gale gives. Yes, this is a difficult thing to write because the appearance of Tav can vary wildly. But his compliments are centered around aesthetic attraction, not physical. “Beautiful” is one of his most common ones. Non-specific, wholistic, and aesthetic. It would be hard to write anything more specific with the Tav’s appearance being so variable. But the other NPCs still have doubtless sexual attraction.

So Gale is a romantic, so what? He could also be a “wait until marriage type”? False. He has not been married, but (at least implies that) he has had sex before.

But it could just be that his route is supposed to be the most romantic, and not all of the NPCs need to have equal levels of horny? Yes. Not all of the NPCs should be the same amount of horny. And the least horny, if they are this different, will always come across as ace-spec or aro-spec, if only by comparison (as it is in the real world).

Consider another detail as well: how the people closest to him are expected to react to him finding a relationship.

Both his BFF Tara and his mother apparently want him to get in a relationship. Tara is obvious, Gale speaks of Tara encouraging him to have more mortal friends after his relationship with Mystra ends. And Tara does at one point comment on Gale finding a mortal partner in-game. Later when Gale asks Tav to marry him, if you accept, he remarks how his mother will also be very pleased to hear the news.

This is a theme in his life. People pressuring him to find a relationship. This is also a very commonly shared experience for a-spec people of all kinds. Pressure from others to find someone. (The most toxic variation being “you haven’t met the right person yet”)

My own mother would be overjoyed if she heard I found someone to get married to, even though she knows I don’t want that. Sure, many parents are this way about their allo children as well, but that’s hardly talked about. Parents of a-spec people, whose children “finally get married” or “finally find someone” are specially invested in the outcome. Of course anyone’s supportive parent would be happy if their child got married to somebody they loved. But it’s noteworthy here, for some reason. As if his mother has, in the past, also given him some grief about it in a way that Tara does as well. If she hadn’t, why mention her at all?

Gale being pressured by those closest to him to get a relationship is thematically similar to the way ace-spec (and aro-spec) people get pressured by those closest to them. And the relationship he crafts is one based not on physical attraction, but on aesthetic attraction and romantic attraction. Gale shares physical forms of affection with his partners for the pleasurable stimulation of it. He does not exhibit the same lust or sexual attraction that the rest of the romanceable/fuckable NPCs do. All this to say that Gale is consistently sex-favorable, but does not experience sexual attraction in the same (allo) way that everyone else does. Therefore, he falls on the ace spectrum. Most likely ace or demi.

OK ok ok first of all Mystra is Gale's abuser and that quite literally is the point??? It is supposed to be seen through a modern lens and that Mystra grooming Gale is bad, and that she abused him.

Like how literally every other person in the cast got abused in some way shape or form.

And it is supposed to be viewed from a modern lens. This is not Greek mythology that was written back in that time period. Yes it may be set in a fantasy realm but the morals, messages and stories are all modern. The bad things to happen well turned to a fantasy setting, are all still stories of the cycle of abuse and breaking it. Mystra grooming Gale, who was MOST LIKELY(basically confirmed) a child when their relationship started, is another example of a cycle of abuse. And we know Mystra's treatment of Gale is constantly considered morally wrong considering: 1. the other characters condemn Mystra's actions. 2. Gale acknowledges how toxic the relationship was when he brings up the fact she saw him as a toy and 3. Minsc says that they have to hide children in Rashmeen to prevent this from happening. I think a character saying that 'Yaaa we gotta hide our kids' should clue audiences in that maybe this bad even by their standards.

Yes, Gale shouldn't have fucked with the orb after having been told not too, but it isn't like Mystra explained LITERALLY ANYTHING to Gale. We know she didn't explain anything because Gale says it was Tara who helped him discover how to feed the orb and keep him from blowing up. She didn't explain why he shouldn't have fucked with it, she didn't explain how he could prevent himself from dying, and she didn't even explain what it was until we see it in game. And telling him how not to blow up a city I doubt would be against the rules for Ao considering the fact she can later, sure it may be a last resort to tell him but she was still able too.

Lastly your argument with Isobel and Aylin fails. Yes the Meta might be a tad bit jarring but there is very clear contrast between Gale and Mystra's relationship. I think they are there to point out. And to prove that is possible and to be healthy, which Mystra and Gale's relationship is never portrayed as. To name the many difference: Aylin and Isobel actually love each other compared to the much more one sided love with Gale loving Mystra. Aylin may be a demi-god but she isn't the ACTUAL GODDESS Isobel worships. Yes she is the daughter but there is still a difference, compared to Mystra who Gale might have already worshipped before meeting her. Isobel is just as protective of Aylin as Aylin is of Isobel, Mystra just said sink or swim bitch and then go blow yourself up to deal with the problem even though that will turn everyone else infected. Oh yes, and also most importantly: AYLIN DIDN'T SEND SOMEONE TO GO START TALKING TO ISOBEL WHEN SHE WAS EIGHT YEAR OLD.

(Also we have evidence Mystra targeted Gale because of the Raphael cutscene and how she wanted to squish his ambition, inferring she may have set up the orb thing)

Something that irritated me

I saw this comment "Even if Gale wasn't a minor- she was his teacher, his goddess, she took advantage of the power she had over him,"

And this is a bit annoying, does Mystra treated Gale like crap? Yes, but to be honest, he also fucked around and find out with magical items that nearly destroyed the universe despite her explicitly said "DO NOT TOUCH!" and this sentiment that Mystra should know better about her relationship with Gale cannot be applied to her or any Gods. This is such a modern sentiment, relationship between humans in medieval era are often messed up by modern standard, let alone between a mortal and a God...

Mystra is a goddess and from her perspective she doesn't need to know any better because a god can do whatever they wanted so long it doesn't piss off AO. People are hamfisting modern HUMAN morality into a dungeon and dragon God, I don't deny that Mystra and Gale relationship is (I hate this word) problematic by modern lens, but this is a medieval dungeon and dragon world...

You can dislike what she did, but saying that she should know better is just an unrealistic expectation.

Also, Aylin and Isobel relationship. Why did Isobel has to say "Oh yeah there's an imbalance in our relationship, but we love each other."

This is such a meta dialogue that kinda doesn't make sense for the setting? (narrative and lore consistency and world building shouldn't be sacrificed just to placate modern audience)

I mean, why does Isobel even has to explain and justify herself to Tav/Durge who are essentially strangers?

I can feel this is Larian saying "Guys, we ship these two but see we address the imbalance, pleaseee don't cancel us on Twitter."

What? Are we going to demand Apollo to address the imbalance of his relationship with Hyacinth to appease modern sensibility as well?

  You and Basilio have been dating for quite some time now. Although he was a messy guy you made sure that you had his back and helped him out to work on how to keep his sloppy tendencies at bay and in turn he would shower you with love and affection that you would usually get from the demi-god of war. Basilio was the perfect guy, he was a sweet lad who made your lonely days better, he made sure that you were cared for in any shape or form and he always had your back in everything and he would give you anything you would ask for in the world. The two of you barely even fought and if you were to fight, it would be more of a joke one than an all-out screaming match. He was the best thing that has ever happened to you and you constantly thank Bathala for it and Basilio thought the same. The two of you were a match made in heaven.

 Although despite your busy schedules keeping the two of you apart, you both made sure that you and your loving boyfriend would get the chance to hang out together. Often, you and Basilio would frequent the Diabolical together, just basking in each other's presence, tucked away in some booth Hank had reserved for the two of you, or sitting by the bar just chatting about each other’s day. You could recall Hank telling you that whenever you were around or that when someone ever mentions your name, Basilio seemed to calm down and would eagerly listen into whatever conversation had said your name. There was a time where Basilio nearly knocked someone’s teeth out because they were talking badly of you and it took Crispin, Maliksi, Hannah, Amie, Alex, and Hank himself to hold back the younger twin and prevent him from punching someone’s lights or teeth out or even prevent a murder from ever happening.

 “Alam mo, (Y/N) pag naririnig ni Basilio na dadaan ka rito, parang siyang aso na di mapakali. Kulang nalang na magkaroon siya ng buntot e.” Hank joked as he was cleaning the freshly washed glass, watching Basilio flush red, face buried into his forearm as he groaned in response while you let out a small chuckle.

 Now looking back, that memory seemed to be far away from you. Tonight happened to be your anniversary with Basilio and instead of a cozy night in, he wanted to do something different.  Basilio wanted to take you out dancing and bar hopping around Bonifacio Global City’s luxurious bars (sometimes you wondered to yourself how the hell can Basilio afford this.) and maybe take you sight seeing around the place when you got the time. Pacing around your living room in your apartment, you were about to shoot him a text message when a knock at your door had interrupted you from doing so, nearly dropping your phone in the process. “Sandali  lang!” you yelled to whoever was outside the door. If there was one thing you learned from dating Basilio, it was being vigilant. You had to make sure that the person on the other side of your door was your boyfriend and not some kind of Aswang or any malicious person who had a personal grudge against the twins and Alex. Taking a peek at the pee hole your door had, you were greeted by the sight of your boyfriend, Basilio grinning up at you as he waved. Instead of wearing his suit, Basilio was in his casual clothing for tonight, his long silken locks pulled back in a half-up, half-down man-bun.

 Opening the door, you then welcomed him with open arms before proceeding to smack him playfully on his arm, an amused smirk on your lips as you opened your mouth to speak, your tone light and teasing, “Took you long enough! Siguro na-traffic ka no?” Basilio could only roll his dark eyes at you as he placed a loving kiss upon your head. “Hindi a, si Kuya Crispin kasi e, sobrang tagal niya sa banyo kaya ayun.” Pulling himself away from you, he then offered his arm for you to take with a grin, his head tilting towards the direction of the door as he spoke, “So ano? Tara na?” “Siyempre naman.”  

 After making sure your apartment was locked, the two of you went down towards the direction of the parking lot and took a couple few selfies inside the elevator, you and Basilio were off. While in the car, the both of you would scream along to the lyrics of Ang Huling El Bimbo by Eraserheads while in traffic. On your way to BGC, both of you were surprised to see Maliksi and his significant by the stoplight, taking the advantage of the long-ass stop to chat with the Prince of the Tikbalangs and his fiancé. Your conversation was cut short when the stoplight had changed from red to green, saying your goodbyes to each other as Basilio drove away to your very first destination, which was none other than XYLO at The Palace.

  In all honesty, you’ve heard about this bar but it was the first time you got to enter the place itself. The both of you got lucky that the place wasn’t as packed and that you got there early before the actual party had started. Both you and Basilio then made your way over to the bar to grab your first drinks of the night. The two of you chatted for a while, occasionally nodding your heads to the beat of the song. After a while, the night seemed to kick in and both of you were already at what seemed to be your 3rd or 4th bar of the night, this time you and Basilio were jumping up and down to DJ Khalid’s song ‘All I Do Is Win’ before the both of you screamed along with the rest of the patrons, “Putang Ina, Alak Pa!”  and time seemed to flow faster than ever as you and your loving boyfriend went in and about around BGC’s classiest bars, downing every single drink you two could manage and take or even dance along to the songs the bars provided while occasionally sharing a kiss here and there, not minding the reek of alcohol and sweat clinging on each other’s bodies as the two of you laughed.

 Sometime around 10:30, you and Basilio were shitfaced to oblivion but both of you were used to it. You had lost count on how many drinks you’ve managed to down yet you and Basilio couldn’t care less, you were certain that you heard your phones ring but you two never got the chance to answer them because Basilio was busy doing body shots on you or you making out with your boyfriend in some hidden corner of the bar. You were starting to get the hint that after your little make-out session at Club Haze, he was focused on one thing and you knew what that meant, despite being inebriated out of your wits. So what do you do? Put on a show for him of course.

 You knew Basilio was sitting by the bar because you told him you were going to use the bathroom to freshen up a little bit since the club felt a little bit humid. What he didn’t expect was you sashaying over to where the dance floor, the last notes of Nelly Furtado’s Maneater fading away only to be replaced by Doja Cat’s Streets. To you, the sound seemed to have slowed down and you weren’t sure because it was the alcohol’s effects taking over, nobody else in the club mattered but your boyfriend alone.  The figures around you seemed to blur and Basilio was the only one you had your eyes on as your body moved to the beat, eyes half-lidded and lips slightly parted, and even from afar, you could see your demi-god of a boyfriend shuffle in his seat, his cheeks brightly flushed even under the lights of the dark club (yes, Basilio even tried to hide his raging boner from everyone but he was failing miserably). You knew that he was watching you closely like a predator ready to strike and even from afar you can tell that he was getting impatient with your games and that made you smirk. You knew that Basilio had a thing for Semi-Public sex and your several other experiences with him were proof of that, hell the two of you almost got caught one time and you were internally thankful that you weren’t. But tonight, Basilio’s going to abide by the rules of your own game and not his.

The opening bass beat from Beyonce’s Yonce/Partition was your cue to take things up a notch by making your way over to the bar where you had stood upon the counter (you had asked the bartender and the rest of the patrons who hung around the bar save for Basilio in advance and they seemed to agree with it just as long as you were careful) and made your way down the counter, hips sashaying and your body with every beat and drop before stopping to where he was, a smirk on your face, your hands running up from your thighs and right past your chest in a sensual manner, leaning in just so you could ghost your lips over Basilio’s eagerly waiting ones before pulling away with a wink. Once your little show was done and you had gone down from your counter with the help of the bartender you had just spoken to before making your way over to the dance floor once more to dance just as your song, She’s My Collar by Gorillaz began to play only to be caught short when you felt a hand grab you by the wrist.

Despite being drunk you were still smart and quick to retaliate towards whoever had grabbed you only to be surprised to be looking right directly at your boyfriend’s dark obsidian gaze, his breath slow and ragged and you knew you were in it for real this time the moment he said, “We’re leaving.” In a tone, you’ve never heard from him before and that seemed to send shivers and chills up your spine as he dragged you away from the bar to head right outside.

Honestly, the whole trip back to the car seemed to pass you by like a blur, you would occasionally stumble on your own feet, which prompted Basilio to sling you over his shoulder like you were nothing but a sack of potatoes (at least it gave you a perfect view of his ass). The moment you arrived at your car, however, you were thrown haphazardly into the backseat after Basilio had unlocked the door with ease and then entered the vehicle as well, quickly pulling you up on his lap where he locked his lips with you in a heated kiss, hands roaming around your body with such need and you could feel his erection straining against the fabric of his dark jeans. You were surprised at first but once the initial shock and surprise had worn off, you kissed him back as well with the same passion and need that he emulated from his kiss, your fingers and hands made a quick undo of his man-bun and top, hastily unbuttoning them, eager to touch the skin underneath it and leave marks on it.  Clothes were thrown around and about in the space of the car and in that blur of clothing being discarded around, you were honestly surprised when Basilio had lifted up your lower half towards him, his lips trailing kisses down your stomach and thighs before his head disappeared in between your legs, bestowing you the best oral you’ve ever had received from him in your years of dating. You couldn’t thrash around with him holding you so tightly against his face as he went down on you but your hands were free to roam and tug at his long silken locks, his name spoken like a prayer  and just as you were about to reach your peak, he had pulled away from you, a sadistic yet innocent smirk placed upon his now glistening chin and lips coated in your slick as he spoke, “Not yet, babe.”  Winking at you, he gingerly set you down before he leaned over to where his now discarded jeans were as he pulled out his wallet, fishing out a condom and a small pack of lube for him to use. Once the foil was open and the rubber was on his already hard dick, he then proceeded to open the pack of lube, rubbing it on his length before instructing you to get on your hands and your ass up for him.

 And by Bathala you began to see stars the moment he had entered you.  At your action, your boyfriend, still groggy from sleep, could only groan at this, his hand reaching out to search for his mobile phone to check the time. Squinting, he then saw the time on his phone but the color on his face seemed to drain the moment he saw several missed calls and messages from his twin brother and the Babaylan-Mandirigma herself. “SHIT!” Basilio managed to cry out of sheer panic, his head accidentally hitting against the roof of the car, making him hiss even more, hands holding the spot where he had hit his head. “Lagot tayo kay Bossing, (Y/N), kagabi pa niya tayo tinatwagan kasama ni Kuya Crispin.” At the mere mention of Alex and Crispin’s name, you seemed to understand the sense of urgency before the two of you began to clean up the car, dressing up as you did so, attempting to make yourselves look more presentable and cover the tracks from yesterday’s events. Once done, Basilio was driving like a speeding madman in a rush to head back where his brother and Alex were at.

 It took him at least an hour to arrive at their destination with Alex taking the role as today’s designated driver while Basilio sat in the back with his brother. “San ba kayo galing? Kagabi pa namin kayo tinatawagan ni Crispin, (Y/N), Basilio. Ano ba nangyare, ha?” Alex spoke, her eyes flickering over to where Basilio was, sheepishly scratching the back of his head as he spoke, “Sensya na ho, Bossing. Nag-sight seeing kasi kami ni (Y/N) kagabi tas nag-bar hoping kami tas pagkatapos nakatulog kami dito sa kotse.” A little doubtful of this, Alex could only glance at you from the corner of her eye, expecting for you to react but you held your emotions close to your heart as you spoke, “Totoo po yung sinasabi ni Basilio, bossing. Di po naming sadya na di kayo replyan ni Crispin. Di na po mauulit.” Nodding, Alex then excused the both of you and the car ride was silent, save for the fact that the radio was playing Last Friday Night by Katy Perry. You did feel a little bit cold however and you couldn’t help the fact that something was missing until Crispin screamed out in surprise, horror, and disgust, finally noticing the thing you were missing. Ah shit. “TANGINA BASILIO, ANO TO!?!?!” Crispin managed to yell out, holding up your lace underwear for everyone in the car to see with Basilio quickly snatching the piece of clothing away from his brother, tucking it in his pocket before he responded, “ANONG-ANO KA DIYAN KUYA!?! WALA KANG NAKITA!!”

You silently prayed to Bathala for him to forgive you but you were sure as hell Alex won’t. You made a mental note to not ever do it in the car you guys use for missions ever again.

Chapter 6 - Carefully

Intoxicating,

My insecurities don’t take vacations.

So, babe, if you think you can handle me,

I found Dahlia in the round table room with Penelope, Tara and Rossi. She wasn’t crying anymore, she was staring numbly at the wall.

“She hasn’t said anything, just keeps staring at the wall.” Rossi whispered to me as I arrived with Stella in tow.

“What the fuck did JJ say to her?” I hissed at Emily.

“I don’t really know.” Emily shrugged. “I’ve sent her home to cool off.”

I sighed loudly, still clenching my jaw to the point it was aching.

I stepped into the room and was awash with emotions but none of them were good.

My body flooded with anger, at whom I wasn’t sure. But I knew it was going to find its way out as soon as I opened my mouth.

“Can you not keep it together for an hour while I go home and change?”

My words made her snap her gaze away from the wall and her eyes landed on me.

“W-what?” her lip quivered.

“Do I seriously have to babysit you every second of the day?”

“Reid!” Garcia scalded me but I ignored her.

“Seriously, I haven’t had a minute's peace since she arrived here. Your asshole boyfriend isn’t worth crying over sweetheart.”

“Spencer!” Stella grabbed me by my shoulder a little roughly. “Stop it!”

“I-I don’t understand.” Y/N started crying and Garcia put her arm around the fragile woman.

“Understand this, you are a pain in-“

“Spencer!” Stella cut me off. “With me, now.” She grabbed my arm and tugged me with her while the others watched in confusion as she dragged me out of the room.

“Spencer, you know what this is right?” She spoke once we were out of earshot of everyone.

“This is work Stella, that’s what it is.” I folded my arms.

“No Spencer, this is a Dom drop. Do you remember when we first started this? You explained it to me. The signs, what to look out for.”

“So there’s also a thing called Dom drop that you should be aware of.”

“There’s a lot to this.” Stella laughed a little. “Ok shoot Doc.”

“It’s a sensation of restlessness, depression, guilt and anger and can last a few hours after a scene. I might become despondent and try to push you away. I might even become hyper aggressive. I need you to know in case that ever happens.” I explained to her.

“Ok.” She nodded. “So what do I need to do if you experience this?”

“Well there are a few things…”

“This isn’t that. I’m just pissed off.” I shook my head in denial.

“Spencer Reid,” she put her hands on my shoulders. “You are experiencing Dom drop and I am here for you. If you need to talk or anything I am here.”

She moved behind me, her hands still on my shoulders and she started massaging them.

“It’s ok Spence, play is over. You can let go. You can relax.”

“Can I?” I grumbled, closing my eyes and trying to focus on the feel of her hands on my shoulders.

“Yes, you can. You did nothing wrong. It was just a scene, you are nothing like him.”

I always thought Stella had the ability to read my mind. This felt like proof.

“You need to come down, Pony. Come back to reality. Come back to me.”

What had I done? How could I yell at Y/N like that? She was already terrified and I’d just made everything ten times worse.

“What was that?”

When I opened my eyes Tara was in front of me, eyebrows raised.

“What was that?” she repeated as Stella let go of my shoulders, but stayed close.

“I don’t know.” I admitted. “I don’t know. God, I need to apologize to her.” I rushed away from the two women and back towards the round table room.

Rossi was crouched beside her, trying to calm her while Garcia had her arm around her.

“Dahlia,” I approached with caution. But the damage was done.

She whimpered, shuffling behind Garcia to shield me from her.

“Dahlia, I am so sorry. I don’t know what came over me.”

“I’m going to talk for her.” Garcia growled at me. She had never spoken to me like that before. “You crossed a line, Reid, a huge line. She trusted you to take care of her and you ruined that. She doesn’t want to talk to you. She doesn’t want to see you.”

I looked at Y/N over Garcia’s shoulder but she wouldn’t make eye contact with me. I didn’t blame her.

“We found Hawthorne.” Rossi spoke up now.

“What?” I gasped a little.

“He’s in custody. We found him while you were...doing whatever it is that you were doing at home.” Rossi looked disappointed in me.

“I was showering and grabbing a change of clothes.” my words didn’t sound convincing.

“Funny seeing as you were wearing that when you left.” Garcia scoffed. “And you smell worse than you did a few hours ago.”

“Y/N is going home.” Rossi spoke again before I had a chance to defend myself. “I suggest you do the same too, kid. Sleep off whatever this is.”

“Y/N, please,” I ignored him. “Please let me explain.”

She whimpered again. She was afraid of me. She was afraid of me the same way she was afraid of Brett. It tore apart my chest. The way she was cowering away from me was like a knife cutting me open, exposing my insides to the world. But I had no one to blame but myself.

I knew if I tried to force my apology on her I would only make her more frightened so I retreated, knowing in the long run it was for the best.

I stepped aside, clearing a space for Rossi and Garcia to lead her from the room, like two mismatched bodyguards.

As she passed she made the briefest of eye contact with me, long enough so I could see what my words had done to her. She didn’t trust easily, that much was evident. But she’d trusted me, and I’d thrown it back in her face.

I’d only ever wanted to make her smile. But somehow I had done the complete opposite. And I wondered if that would ever stop hurting.

It went to show how little I had really gotten to know Doctor Reid when he spoke to me like that. I shouldn’t have been surprised. I certainly shouldn’t have been as upset as I was about it.

I’d spent less than a week with him and somehow managed to fool myself that I knew him.

I would wonder how someone could hide the real version of themselves so well if I hadn’t just found out I’d spent eleven years of my life with a serial killer.

Nothing surprised me now. So I wasn’t shocked by Doctor Reid’s outburst. I was upset, I scared, I was confused; but not surprised.

Maybe this was just the way things were going to be now, people were going to constantly let me down.

That’s just great. That’s just what I need.

It felt like I’d been away from my house for years. Nothing had changed, it was all as I’d left it. But everything was different.

I feel like a stranger in these walls. It was as though I’d never stepped foot in this house in my life until this second.

Nothing was different than it had been a few days ago, only everything was different. And it would never be the same again.

I didn’t even turn on the lights, didn’t make it past the living room.

The events of the last few days came crumbling down on me. My fiancé was a serial killer. My fiancé had been killing women for five years and I’d been none the wiser.

How? How could that be possible? Had I really buried my head so far in the sand I hadn’t seen the signs?

My legs gave out under the weight of it all and I collapsed on the floor, tears streaming down my face.

And I started to scream. There was so much pent up inside of me and it seemed the only way to let it out.

So I screamed and I cried. Then I cried and I screamed. And even when my tear ducts felt dry and my throat was raw I cried and I screamed some more.

“We need to talk about what happened.” I was halfway to my bedroom when Stella stopped me with her words.

I sighed loudly.

“Not now Stella. I need to sleep off this god awful day. I don’t have any talk in me.”

“Fine,” she huffed. “You don’t want to talk fine. But you are damn sure going to listen.”

She took hold of me by my wrist and pulled me to the couch which didn’t take a lot of effort on her part because I was too exhausted to fight.

“You are a good person Spencer Reid, one of the best in fact.” She took hold of my hands. “You are nothing like that man, nothing do you hear me? You are kind and you are sweet. You always take care of me, a cruel man wouldn’t do that. You always make sure I’m ok above all else. I know this is scary for you because you’ve never experienced a drop before but we both knew it was always a possibility. It was a momentary state Spencer, it does not define you as a person.”

“She trusted me,” I snatched my hands out of hers. “She trusted me, she opened up to me and I completely fucking shattered that in the space of five minutes.”

Stella squeezed my knee, giving me a sympathetic smile.

“It was out of your control, Spence.”

“That’s the worst part.” I shook my head sadly.

Just then my phone started to ring and I considered just ignoring it because I was exhausted. But I knew I couldn’t.

With a large sigh I put the device to my ear.

“Reid.” I held my breath. There couldn’t be another case already, surely? “What? No, I’m glad you called. I’ll head right over.”

I was already up and heading to the door before I hung up the phone.

“What’s going on?” Stella was frowning at me. “You don’t have to go back to Quantico do you?”

“No, not Quantico.” I grabbed my bag. “I’ll explain later, ok?”

She gave me a look as though she was going to press it but she didn’t.

“Just be careful, yeah?”

I smiled softly at her and nodded.

“I always am.”

The house seemed quiet by the time I arrived and all the lights were off.

I know she wouldn’t want to see me, I was the last person she would want to see, but I had to make sure she was ok.

I knocked quietly on the door hoping not to startle her. But there was no answer. I tried one more time but again she didn’t answer.

So I tried the handle. To my surprise the door was unlocked. I suppose after spending years locked in she wasn’t in a hurry to repeat that.

“Y/N?” I called out into the dark as I entered, hand on the butt of my gun ready to draw it, just in case. “Y/N? It’s me, Spencer.”

I heard a sniffling followed by, “go a-away I don’t want you h-here.”

I followed the voice and found her sitting in the corner of the room with her back against the wall and her knees pulled up to her chest.

The moonlight seeped in through the open curtains and I could see the tear stains on her cheeks.

“Dahlia?” I removed my hand from my holstered weapon.

“Please g-go away. You are the last p-person I want to see.” She wouldn’t make eye contact with me. We’d gone back to square one.

“I’m not going anywhere.”

“Why are you h-here?” She tried to sound angry but she only sounded broken.

“Your neighbours called the police, they heard screaming. Emily heard about it and called me. She thought it would be better for me to come than the cops.”

“I don’t want you here.”

I noticed then she was picking at the stitches on her wrist.

I dropped to the floor next to her and took hold of her elbow, guiding her arm away from her fidgeting fingers.

She flinched a little at my touch and it shattered me.

“You’ll hurt yourself.”

“So?” She sniffed. “P-please leave.”

She shuffled away from me, the fear evident in her eyes.

She was scared of me. It killed me, but I knew it was my own fault.

“I am so, so sorry for what I said to you and how I acted Dahlia. The last thing I ever wanted to do was scare you.”

“I t-trusted you. You knew what h-he did to me.”

I wanted to reach for her, to hold her but I didn’t want to scare her more.

“Y/N, I’m not that man, I swear.” I was desperate not to cry, but the guilt was consuming me. “I hate that you’re scared of me now.”

“L-leave then. I’ll feel b-better if you leave.”

“I can’t in good conscience leave you like this.”

She still refused to look at me. I knew I was going to have to be straight with her.

“Look Dahlia, this is by no means a good excuse for the way I acted but you need to know why I reacted like that.” I sighed. “I suppose the simplest way to put it is I’m into BDSM. Stella, the woman who was with me, is my submissive and she has been for years. Just before I came back to Quantico we had done a scene. And for the first time I was experiencing what is known as a Dom drop. It’s when your mind can’t quite accept a scene is over and you get stuck in this dominant state. The man that yelled at you was someone I usually leave in the bedroom. I didn’t have a chance to properly adjust afterwards. Like I say, it’s not an excuse, it’s just what happened.”

Finally she turned to look at me.

Her face was a picture of confusion which I anticipated. People found it hard to understand the lifestyle.

“I don’t understand.”

I nodded, knowing I needed to elaborate.

“During a scene the body is releasing dopamine which is giving this high and as soon as the scene is over there is this sudden drop in hormones. During a scene our bodies tap into our sugar content, which leads to lower sugar levels which can make us feel irritable. Also the release of oxytocin can be accompanied by vasopressin which induces feelings of possession and territoriality. Does that make sense? I was in an altered state. It wasn’t me. I mean it was me, but it wasn’t me.” I was rambling, my words coming out faster than I was sure she could process them.

“Regardless of chemicals, you hurt me Spencer. You scared me. I t-trusted you.”

“I know I did Dahlia, and I am so, so sorry.”

“Why do you keep calling me that?” she chewed her lip with a frown.

And I could have lied to her, but I didn’t.

“During the Victorian era, Dahlia flowers symbolised a lasting bond or a lifelong commitment between two people. In the present day they are a symbol to commemorate something new. Meeting you was something my mind wanted to mark and I don’t know what it is but as soon as I laid eyes on you I knew I was bound to you. In what way I’m not sure. But Dahlia just seemed fitting.” I probably sounded crazy, but I wasn’t going to lie to her. I would never lie to her.

“You’re a very interesting man Spencer.” she replied, making me chuckle a little.

“Does that mean I’m forgiven?”

She mused on this for a moment, I’m not sure if she was trying to make me stew or not. Either way it was working.

“I’m not sure forgiven is the right word. But I do appreciate your honesty. You know, you remind me of the Seeker from the book.” Then she gave me the slightest hint of a smile.

And I knew more than ever that I was most certainly bound to this woman.

Spencer stayed with me for several hours, sitting on the floor in the dark side by side.

We mostly discussed Wizard's First Rule now I was finished reading it and he was telling me about the rest of the books in the series.

I hung off his every word. I meant it when I said he was interesting although fascinating would have been a better linguistic choice. He spoke with passion no matter the subject and it enthralled me.

By the time he stood from the floor and helped me up, the sun was starting to rise.

“Take my number.” He fished his card out of his satchel and handed it to me. “In case you ever need anything. Even if it’s just for the next book.”

I nodded slightly, taking the card although I wasn’t sure I would ever use it.

“What do you think you’ll do now?” He asked me as I walked him to the door.

“I honestly don’t know. I have a lot of things to process before I can even start thinking about rebuilding my life.” I opened the door for him, it was still a new experience being able to open my own front door.

“Well if you ever need help processing…” he trailed off as he stepped out onto the porch.

“Thanks.” I nodded.

We held each other's gaze for several long seconds. There seemed to be so much unsaid between us in those moments.

Some many words passed subconsciously between us, all the things we were both too afraid to say out loud.

But I knew he understood me. And I understood him.

After a little while he gave me a thoughtful smile.

“Well, goodbye Dahlia.”

“Goodbye Seeker.”

Ever since I've been in this fandom, I've realized that circus PR contracts have a fun thing called time. Time always gets into the "love stories" of the circuses where one believes that couples are having the time of their lives, everyone happily eating partridges (because that's how bastards sell the story) and overnight tomorrow there is always no happy ending. So, out of nowhere. Remember Tyren and Tara's post on Lauren's behalf where she mentioned that she was happy with her baby Ty? Well a couple of months later the happy couple broke up out of nowhere and baby Ty is gone. Ariana and her ex-fiancé, another failure out of nowhere when they were about to get married. The most recent, Demi And Max. That was worse because that circus created a whole show of their "engagement" full of paparazzi and it ended in the worst way, also out of nowhere. And do you know why they end up like this? Time, anon. Time plays a fucking important role for these circuses. Time dictates whether such a couple in a fake romance takes steps or has to stop abruptly because, hey! there are new clauses or new contracts better than the previous one (Ewmila / Showmila as examples) or simply because couples get on so badly with each other that management prefers to cut off those relationships and start new ones. But usually everything takes time, anon. And depending on that type of contract, the circus has to end yes or yes. Eventually. In the case of Showmila, I already mentioned that it was Diva Payola's team who paid Camila for that fake romance. That allows the young man to mention Camila everywhere because he needs her as a backstory for his music until he doesn't need her anymore and then he can sing bland songs about how Camila broke his heart if he loved her so much. 📌 how did you find your hyperfixation?

It all started with the cartoon! Saturday cartoons were kind of a thing in my family, and my dad was always big on superheroes. So naturally, if a superhero cartoon was on, we’d watch it as a family. I wasn’t especially invested in superheroes as a genre, I just liked the plots better than a lot of other kid shows.

I remember watching Nevermore in the dark room, and mostly just being Vaguely Confused, not really caring what was going on (because someone was brushing or braiding my hair, and I liked that a lot better at the time). I specifically remember seeing Pink!Raven and just kind of being like: “...okay? Weird.” I remember the watermelon Loreal Kids shampoo from that night better than I remember the episode because I legitimately just Was Not Paying Attention. I don’t even remember the first time I watched the Apprentice episodes.

But then I remember LOVING Fear Itself from the first viewing, the whole thing with Pretending Not To Be Afraid and the line “I’m afraid, but that doesn’t mean I can’t fight back” REALLY struck a chord with me, and by the time Aftershock pt. I aired, I was SUPER emotionally invested in the Titans’ well-being. I was so surprised they’d survived! Terra had to be stopped and I was FURIOUS at her for what she did to them! I couldn’t WAIT for next Saturday!

Now, I don’t remember quite WHEN I started reading the comics, definitely before Haunted aired, because I recognized Raven’s soul-self IMMEDIATELY. (It’s Kind of a Big Deal in the comics.) But whenever it happened, that same dad that loved superheroes was a comics collector, and when I started enjoying the show, he started letting me read the comics. At first it was just the trade paperbacks, started with Terror of Trigon and Judas Contract (what a way to start off, huh?), and also the trades from the ‘00s Adult Comics (Teen Titans v3, as we call it). A Kid’s Game, and Family Lost. (Family Lost made a big deal about Raven’s return, and elaborated on Raven’s backstory via Arella. Take a wild guess which one I read over and over again.) He also gave us the Beast Boys and Girls trade, but my sister was much more of a Beast Boy fan and adopted that one the same way I adopted Family Lost.

Eventually he asked me if I wanted to read the comics they first appeared in, and naturally I was like “YES!” So he pulled the box of New Teen Titans (etc.) comics out and set it near the living room, and he made the rule that I could only take one issue out at a time, and had to return it before I read the next one.

I visited that box ten times a day sometimes.

I would take the issues with Azarath out time and time again, staring at the pictures, reading and re-reading the discussions there, taking in every single little detail. The rainbow stars. The triplicate moons. The architecture. The clothing. I’ve always been especially fixated on Azarath, and Marv’s habit of casual lore-drops fed my fandom-thirsty soul so WELL.

And when I read Tales of the New Teen Titans #2, Raven’s origin story? I never wanted to put it back in the box! I was ENAMORED.

The more I learned about Raven from the comics, the more I related to her, and the more I fell in love with the Raven in the show too, appreciating her backstory and filling in the blanks of things I desperately wanted to know about her. (Which was EVERYTHING!) 

Raven was the sole point of entry for how hard I fell in love with the franchise, but the older I got and the more I learned, the more I grew to love everything else about it, too.

🏳‍🌈 do you have any headcanons (lgbt, race, neuro, etc) that are important to you?

I headcanon Raven as both aspec and POC! I mean, canon doesn’t color her much at all; the cartoon gives her eerily pale skin and the comic artists tend to color her a deep peachy “white” skin color.

But if you look at the profiles George Perez draws, things like her nose shape and eye/brow structure look like It Could Be. Especially this silhouette from the GAMES graphic novel:

And, I mean, Marv Wolfman considered making her black from the start. So it even works on a meta level.

I don’t know what nationality she could be, because nationality comes from the parents, and, well, Trigon’s a demon, and Arella’s drawn a lot more classically-European looking. Small nose, big eyes, pale skin. Arella was also a foster child, so it’s probably canon that she simply doesn’t know her national origins?

And about asexuality? It’s lifted straight from the comics. There was literally an entire storyline that focused on her and sexuality. And she just DID NOT WANT sex. Now I might be projecting a little, because Marv made it very clear that the reason she’s so apprehensive and avoidant about it is because of her mother’s r*pe. And for the longest time, I was apprehensive and totally avoidant of sex because, for me, I was a sex-repulsed ace, and let’s just say I had a sort of social-learning trauma from several close friends. But you can be afraid of sex and be sexually attracted to someone at the same time. This was CLEARLY not the case with her. When they were getting ready, she’s clearly bracing herself, forcing herself into it, only going along because Eric forced it on her, and she’s like “If you must, just get it over with”, and that’s only BARELY paraphrased. She had no desire for it! No heat, no excitement! Absolute zero! Just straight FEAR.

Not to mention, as much as I despise that storyline, the closest thing she has canonically come to ever Getting Down with someone was that weird astral “child” thing with the Wyld weirdness, and if I remember correctly, that was a complete accident with No Body-Unifying Prerequisite.

(Clearly she’s romantically active in both the comics and cartoon, but hey, I’m also a lot more romantically engaged than sexually too. I haven’t decided yet if I headcanon her as demi, gray, or what, but I definitely get Very Strong Ace-Spectrum Vibes from her.)

As for other characters, I’m honestly Really Intensely Hyperfixated on Raven In Particular, so I’ve never given as much thought to the others, but in running teentitansheadcanons, I’ve seen submissions that Beast Boy is autistic or ADHD, and I like that interpretation! I legitimately Can Not Comprehend how his mind works, I just can’t grasp how things Operate for him at all, but from his outward behaviors, I can definitely see it.

I also heavily, heavily headcanon that all the Titans have PTSD, both from their pre-hero days and the fact that they’ve all faced near-death scenarios. Different events impacted different Titans differently, so it’s from different things for all of them, and they all have their own individual ways of coping with it, but it’s There.

I also headcanon Really Hard that they ARE each others’ support group, because Found Family means the WORLD to me, and I imagine it does to all of them too. Wait, screw “imagine”-- that’s canon as HELL.

💎 are there any fun facts or trivia that you would like to share?

Hmmm.... I have too many to easily choose just a few! So! More Rambling!

~ Raven wasn’t named as such due to her heritage or prophecies of doom; rather, Marv Wolfman just really liked the name Raven. If anything, she was named after a character, Raven Winters, Marv had written in an earlier project!

~ The Azarathean word “Arella” meaning “messenger angel” is a DIRECT derivative of Hebrew, as well as the word “Azar” (meaning “aid”) and the suffix “-ath”, as I understand it, means... something I can’t remember now, like providing or bringing or something. But it’s all very parallel to Hebrew!

~ The New Teen Titans crew nicknamed Trigon “Hot Stuff on steroids”, referencing a blood-red mischievous and child-shaped demon character from Archie Comics. He’s not very much of a threat. This never fails to amuse me.

~ Tara Strong still wants to know what happened with Terra and Trigon. (At least, she did when I saw her at Indy PopCon.)

~ Back in 2003ish, there used to be RAGING debates over whether the Robin in the cartoon was Dick Grayson or Tim Drake. Yes, even after he was shown to become Nightwing in the future. Because of how his costume looked, I think? And his personality. Even though the cartoon Titans were CLEARLY waaaay different from their comic counterparts.

~ Cyborg’s metal body parts are a molybdenum steel alloy! This was stated in the 80′s comics, but as I understand it, molybdenum is still used today in the medical field for prosthetics and skin-contact technology.

~ Starfire says one of my favorite meta lines in the comics: “I know what I look like and there’s nothing wrong with being pretty. But if that’s ALL that I am I’d be pretty boring.”

~ Wonder Girl’s origin story has been retconned almost as many times as there are DC Crisises. I can hardly speak any further on it, because I thrive on continuity and retcons just Throw Me Off.

~ Red Star’s original name Way Back When was actually Starfire!

~ Marv Wolfman took the name “Nightwing” from a Kryptonian story! Yes, Dick Grayson’s alias was named after a Superman thing. (Marv’s a huge Superman fan though, so are we really surprised?)

~ Starfire and Raven, a fierce warrior and a timid pacifist, were created to be Polar Opposites! Like, INTENTIONALLY. (With Donna Troy as the balancing act between them.)

~ When Beast Boy/Changeling transforms from a large creature into something smaller, according to the New Teen Titans letter columns because a fan asked about this, his extra mass goes to Cleveland. This was probably a joke and never explained, but maybe that’s why there’s so much green stuff in Lake Erie!

Hey so I'm 27 and refer to myself as "not straight", mainly because I struggle to define demisexuality that I think puts me in trouble to interact with girls I like. Also even if I try to enter lgbt spaces I always end up in a place full of guys and in other activities more guys and straight girls. So I really don't know what to do because dating apps don't work either. And there's of course this demi stuff that I see as a barrier because I realize I like someone way too late. So Idk what to do!

I've read this several times over and still don't quite know what you're asking, but I'll give it a shot.

So, I think you’re overthinking this one a bit.

Online apps are certainly not the only way to meet women (see this post for suggestions), but they can be a great way to present yourself in a cool, calm, and collected package without worrying about getting tongue tied or making the mistake of hitting on a straight girl (most of the time). Yes, gay men definitely do tend to dominate gay spaces, but there are plenty of women out there if you know where to look.

Dating profiles are all about being succinct, interesting, and a little flirty. Have fun with it! Work out first what the heck it is you want and figure out a way to convey that in as few words as possible.

I tend to loosely employ a 3 x 3 rule when it comes to dating profiles. Try to give them 3 things about you, at least 3 things you like (aka interests), and 3 things you’re looking for. It gives them enough to go on and start a conversation with (especially if they’ve employed it on theirs as well) but doesn’t overwhelm them with too much information too soon.

So, for example, your profile might look something like:

Local lesbian grad student extraordinaire looking for the Tara to my Willow.

Into: spelunking, cheesy sci fi marathons, baking, and Norman style architecture.

Looking for friends first with the possibility for more. Attracted to Butch cowbois, especially ones with really big… belt buckles. ;-) You should know I have a weakness for brown eyes. If you have a cat, definitely message me.

And that’s it.

Keep it light. Keep it easy. Keep it fun. If you can’t, then you shouldn’t be on a dating app at this point in your life anyway.  

It doesn’t matter how hot someone may be in their pictures. If they sound like they’re exhausting to be around or that they don’t have their internal house in order, personally, I’m going to swipe left (or keep scrolling, whatever).

Remember, you can only meet people as deeply as you’ve met yourself. If you don’t know who and what you are yet, then they won’t either, and they also won’t be able to tell what they’d be signing up for if they went out with you (and the ones for whom that wouldn’t matter [read: desperate] are really not the ones you want to be going out with in the first place…).

Really take some time and think about what you’re offering to the people who date you. Ask yourself what you bring to the table and how their life would be bettered by having you in it, and if you don’t like the answers you’ve come up with, take a break, work on yourself for a bit, and try again. People respond to the energy you’re putting out there and if you’re feeling confused or disorganized or a little off your game, they’re going to pick up on that and respond in kind (or not at all, in the case of online dating).

If you’re not getting the response you want, I’d wager a guess that it’s less because of who you are (I firmly believe there is at least one lid for every pot) and more to do with how you’re presenting it. Being angsty or apologetic about yourself is death in the dating world. People want to feel like they’re getting a catch… and they are! You just have to help them see that.

After you take stock of what you offer to someone in the big picture sense, get out a pen and notepad and write down everything you can think of that is good about you. You’re using pen and not pencil, paper and not a computer because I want you to really think long and hard before you scratch something out, and if you do, you should still see evidence of it and see how ugly it is that you don’t think it’s worth listing. Put every stupid little thing down you can think of, especially if it makes you embarrassed. Then sit with that list for a while and think it over. Then keep adding. And adding. And add some more. You should have a minimum of 100 things on your list within a week and if you don't, it's because you're talking yourself out of them, not because those things don't exist. Then keep that list somewhere private but accessible to you and never stop adding to it. Try adding at least one thing a day and at the end of a year, look back at that list and see how different your approach to dating and all of your other relationships has become.

Keep going until you stop seeing any one aspect of who you are as a barrier and start seeing it as just one of the many, many things that make you exactly who you are. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the core of who you are and if, for whatever reason, you don't like some of the changeable things, just remember that you are always evolving, even when you can't feel it. And when the timing is right and your phase of evolution matches up with someone else's, you'll see then why it never worked with all the others who came before.

Do you have any book recs? (And/or where you suggest buying books?)

Okay okay, sorry friend, I’ve been busy at a con these past few days so I haven’t had the chance to sit down and answer this. Anyways, before I start, there are a couple of book recs in my Book Recs tag that you can check out, and This Post has some of my favourite lgbt+ books you can check out.

As for where I buy books, sorry I don’t think my answer will be helpful outside of Canada. I usually just by from Chapters/Indigo/Coles (there’s this huge one in Eaton Centre that I frequent so often I’m pretty sure all the staff recognizes me by now lmao). Also, I don’t know think they exist outside of Toronto, but BMV books sells new and used books for super super cheap, so I go there a lot too. I deadass bought a Narnia compilation from them even though I already have one because the cover was gorgeous, and they were selling it for $2.

Anyways, my top three books/series that I absolutely want everyone to read:

Earth Girl, Earth Star, Earth Flight by Janet Edwards- One of my favourite series of all time. Set in a future where humanity has discovered portal technology and has colonies on other planets, the main character Jarra is “Handicapped”. She was one of the minority who were born with an immune system that can not survive on other planets, and so she’s stuck on Earth, along with the rest of the “apes/neans/throwbacks.” A feisty history enthusiast who has a lot of internalized bitterness about the ableism she’s faced throughout her life, she decides to infiltrate a one-year university pre-history course of off-world students that is held on Earth. She crafts a new background for herself, tricking them into accepting her as one of their own so that in the end, she can reveal everything and yell out all her anger. But what is she to do when she actually finds herself genuinely liking her new classmates?

This series has so much diversity (2 supporting gay characters, at least 2 bi/pan characters, several poc main characters, an entire culture where polyamory is the norm), and it really takes a deep look into discrimination and how racism can tear civilization apart. It’s about an oppressed people finally being able to speak out and fight for their rights. It’s about Jarra learning to love herself and come to terms with everything she’s been through, and ultimately finding the family she’s always craved

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera - In this world, Death-Cast calls you at midnight on the day you are going to die. When two boys at the peak of their youth end up receiving the call one night, fate brings them together through the Last Friend app. They’re as different as different can be, but somehow they make it work. In the single day they have together, they form a bond that most people can’t achieve in their entire lives.

Absolutely fucking heartbreaking. I cried so much with this book, especially in the last 50 or so pages. You really learn to love not only the two main characters, Rufus and Matteo, but their friends and loved ones as well. You read through so many different perspectives throughout this book, and they all seem so far removed from each other that it’s fascinating seeing how they all slowly tie in together as the story draws to a close.

A few notes on this one - YES the title is 100% true and they do both die at the end, YES Matteo and Rufus are both lgbt+ (Rufus is bi, but Matteo’s sexuality is never labelled, so he could be gay or he could be bi/pan/demi/etc)

The Novice, The Inquisition, The Battlemage by Taran Matharu - Fletcher is an orphan who finds out he has the ability to summon demons from the Ether. Forced to flee his hometown for a crime he didn’t commit, Fletcher and his demon, Ignatius, eventually end up in his country’s capital of Corcillum. In a country at war with the savage orcs they share their southern border with, every summoner is badly needed on the front lines to keep their country safe. So when Fletcher is discovered by an officer of the king’s army, he is offered a place at Vocans Academy, a school where he will trained to harness his powers and become a battlemage.

Love this series to bits and pieces! The characters are lovely, the relationship between Fletcher and his adoptive father makes my heart go all mushy, and the worldbuilding is rich and vibrant!

ALEXANDER HAMILTON: what are some things you want more people to know about you?

I would like people to know that, if I come on strong, it is only because I am passionate, and, if I seem a little boring, it is because I prefer the limitless adventures of stories and fantasy to the limited ones of reality (well, that and I frequently don’t have the money or energy to have a lot of the experiences I would like to). 

THE STORY OF TONIGHT: talk about some of the best times you’ve had with friends.

I’ve had so many good times with so many different friends, honestly. I remember learning how to knit as my friend Sarah patiently taught me in third grade. I remember doing science experiments with Grace and our eighth grade science teacher, Mr. Andre, during lunch, particularly one memorable day when we accidentally lit a girl’s hair on fire. I remember Jordan introducing me to the Vampire Diaries, starting me on a path that would ultimately lead me to the realization that television is the medium I want to work in. I remember winning Best Claymation in my high school film class and just expressing my complete and utter astonishment with Tori afterwards. I remember going to see Hayley Atwell with Demi and Kaitlyn, the first experience we really had together. I remember seeing you in person for the first time and wandering around the convention hall of Wondercon, holding your hand (although, let’s be real – Gwen Stacy and Wanda Maximoff would be such a power couple). I also remember showing you the roof view of downtown Los Angeles for the first time and looking at the stars on my trampoline with you… I have so many good memories with all of my friends.

RIGHT HAND MAN: who do you look up to most?

Honestly… Joss Whedon, particularly in regard to his television career. He tends to foreground people who are usually ignored or dismissed, such as Buffy, Willow, Inara, or Shepherd Book. He helped normalized sexualities rather than heterosexuality, such as how Willow and Tara were the first lesbian sex scene on broadcast television. I also love the themes he implements and the way that he crafts dialogue. If I could write television like he does, I would be content.

WAIT FOR IT: what’s something you’re really longing for?

I am longing to be successful, to get validation that my hard work had resulted in something tangible that other people appreciate. 

STAY ALIVE: have you ever had any near-death experiences?

Surprisingly not. I suppose the closest thing I could cite would be Hurricane Wilma, but I was tucked safely into a shelter during that time. Both of my car-related incidents have also been nothing but scrapes. I think the closest I have come was when I was driving to school one morning when I was immensely tired and a car abruptly turned left into my lane. I slammed on the breaks and nearly hit them, but everyone was alright and there was a police officer who witnessed the event and was able to sort it out.

DEAR THEODOSIA: what’s one nice thing you wish you could say to someone right now?

I wish I could tell my little sisters that they are all so valuable, so loved, and that I believe they will all accomplish wonderful things.

CABINET BATTLE #1: do you enjoy debating or arguing with people?

Debating, yes. Absolutely yes. I will debate you backwards and forwards until your argument can no longer be sustained. Arguing, however, I do not enjoy in the slightest.

TAKE A BREAK: if you could run anywhere for a getaway, where would you go and who would you take with you?

I would probably stay at a nice hotel in New York City with you.

SAY NO TO THIS: what’s your biggest guilty pleasure?

If we are talking about carefree guilty pleasure, it would probably be using television as an escape mechanism to no longer worry about my life. My worst guilty pleasure is indulging my superiority complex, but I try not to do that. 

THE ROOM WHERE IT HAPPENS: talk about a group you would love to be a part of, whether it’s an official group or a group of people

I would love to be a part of the writer’s room for Sense8 or, if I am allowed to delve into the past, either Firefly or Buffy the Vampire Slayer. 

WASHINGTON ON YOUR SIDE: who is the most important or influential person you’ve ever been friends with?

Honestly, I’m not really sure. I think Demi and her family may be getting up there, though. 

THE ADAMS ADMINISTRATION: talk about a time you’ve clashed with authority

… I think it is bad that the first thing that comes to mind is when my sixth grade science teacher, Mr. Stumpf, put my name on the board, and I was so upset that he ultimately took it off. 

HURRICANE: what’s the hardest thing you’ve ever managed to make it through in life?

I think it would probably be the beginning semester of my freshman year of college. Growing up in the same small town, I knew everyone from a young age, and I never really learned how to make friends when I was older. Because of this, the first semester was fairly lonely, and I was under immense academic and personal stress due to transferring to a university whose standards were also immensely high. 

IT’S QUIET UPTOWN: where do you like to go to think or brood?

I like to take a nice, long bath when I really need to think.

Since about mid-2019, adult contemporary romance has been the genre I’ve been craving the most. I absolutely fly through most books in this genre, yet I find myself unsuccessfully attempting to take my time reading them because I want to enjoy them as long as possible. Everyone knows I love binge-reading series, but I’ve been trying not to binge-read the books in the series so I know I always have a book to look forward to.

Since I’ve been practically adding more contemporary romances to my TBR whenever I’m scrolling through Goodreads, today I’ll be sharing which adult & new adult contemporary romances I plan on reading (hopefully soon). I’ve divided this TBR by released books and 2020 releases still to come.

Well Met by Jen DeLuca – I’ve decided that on my next bookstore trip (or whenever I get a Barnes & Noble coupon) I’ll be buying Jen DeLuca. I’ve heard so many great things about this ren-faire inspired romance from many contemporary-loving bloggers. There will be also be two more books set in the Well Met world, Well Played (September 29) and Well Matched (2021).

Not the Girl You Marry by Andie J. Christopher – Not the Girl You Marry has received some mixed reviews, but I read its synopsis while strolling through the romance section in the bookstore and still added it to my TBR. I haven’t read a book set in the city in a while, and I love how the female protagonist, Hannah, is an event planner.

Roomies by Christina Lauren – I could probably dedicate a whole TBR to Christina Lauren books (actually, that’s not a bad future post idea…). Roomies received a ton of love and attention when it first came out in 2017, and I think it’s time for me to see what the hype is about.

Heidi’s Guide to Four Letter Words by Tara Sivec & Andi Arndt – What the main character does in Heidi’s Guide to Four Letter Words honestly sounds like something I would do. After being fired from her job as a kindergarten teacher, Heidi starts a podcast reading the steamy scenes from romance novels and finds way more success than she could have imagined.

Undercover Bromance (The Bromance Book Club #2) by Lyssa Kay Adams – Undercover Bromance is a prime example of a book I want to have my hands on NOW, but also want to save because I love The Bromance Book Club world so much. This installment seems to mix in the sports world from the first book with cooking/restaurant life.

Wild at Heart (The Simple Wild #2) by K.A. Tucker – I think K.A. Tucker’s The Simple Wild series more so falls into new adult than adult contemporary romance. I really loved The Simple Wild last year, a romance taking place in Alaska as Calla decides to get to know her estranged father better. I was pleasantly surprised when a sequel was announced. I’m hoping my library will add this one to their collection, if not, I think the e-book will soon be in my future.

The Play (Briar U #3) by Elle Kennedy – The Play is currently the last installment in the Briar U series, the spin-off to Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus series. I say ‘currently’ in hopes that Elle Kennedy will write more Briar U books! Without being too spoilerly, The Play follows one of the most complicated male perspectives in the Off Campus/Briar U world and a new female perspective, Demi.

Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren – I swear walking through the romance section at the bookstore changes you. I’ve seen Christina Lauren’s Beautiful Bastard everywhere, but I never actually looked into what the series was about. I haven’t read too many workplace romances – the only one that comes to mind is Sally Thorne’s The Hating Game. Given how much I enjoy Christina Lauren’s newer releases, I think it’s time I gave this writing duo’s more backlist titles a try.

The Best Worst Man by Mia Sosa – The Best Worst Man speaks to two of my personal interests: marketing and weddings (PSA that everyone needs to watch TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress America). The synopsis, a hate to love romance that begins at a wedding, sort’ve reminds me of Christina Lauren’s The Unhoneymooners, but with its own spin, as a wedding planner and marketing expert must work together on a dream project.

Shehzeen’s Instagram stories will literally brighten up your day as you watch her be grateful about the simplest of things (chai, random trees, an organized closet, and what-not) and celebrate every little happiness that life sends her way. She currently types out all her insta-stories so that the followers with any sort of hearing impairment can still understand her, and this just goes on to show how incredibly awesome, caring and down-to-earth she is as a person.

1) What’s your favorite skincare brand or product?

No specific brand, but I LOVE moisturizers. I think we don’t give moisturizers their due time in the limelight. Nothing looks as good when it’s on plump, hydrated skin. I slather on loads of it before applying makeup and usually do two rounds (and let each dry out before putting on another layer). Makeup sets poorly when your skin looks dry, and you end up accentuating lines, etc. when you don’t moisturize enough. There’s a moisturizer for every type of skin so everyone should be putting on lots of it. Well-hydrated skin makes all makeup look so much better, even if you have spots, acne or bumps, etc. Also, sunblock (regular usage prevents sun/aging spots and also over time it can help reduce pigmentation).

2) The makeup product you can’t live without is?

Lipstick. I love experimenting with colors and love, love, love wearing some kind of lipstick every day. I am biased towards matte shades and wear them 99.99% of the time.

3) The most recent makeup/skincare product that you fell in love with?

Ver, very much in love with Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in color ‘Stepping Out”. I progressively grew to love it since I bought it and now that mine’s finishing; I realize how much I love wearing it every day. A very neutral color that also has an impact and since it’s a warm shade, it doesn’t make me look washed out.

4) A drugstore product that beats the high-end product?

I have been a fan of ‘Diana of London Super Longwear Eyepencil’ for about ten years now, and I haven’t looked elsewhere. It never smudges, lasts throughout the day, it is super buttery and soft to put on, and it gives such a good, deep, black pigment.

5) Any product that you regret buying?

Colourpop lipsticks, not regret but they’re quite high maintenance because they’re very drying and feel sticky if you eat greasy food. I prefer wearing products that will last me through the day, and I feel comfortable throughout so even though the colors are so good, I wouldn’t buy them again. Just finishing off the ones I got.

6) Your recommended products for a 10mim get-ready session?

I don’t do very elaborate makeup routines, so I pretty much get ready every day in between 5 to 7 minutes. I’ve been using pretty much the same products for years: Garnier BB cream for oily skin even though my skin is dry/normal (the one made in France), Maybelline Fit Me concealer, Channel Stylo eyeliner or Diana of London eye pencil if I’m feeling like doing my eyes, any mascara (no specific faves), MAC peaches blush and a lipstick that goes with my mood.

Afterward, I would apply my current favorite Mascara from Lancome “Hypnose Drama” for voluminous lashes. Next comes my go-to product for dark circles is the NARS Radiant Concealer. To add some freshness to my face, I would recommend the MAC Dimension Blush in colour “n Telling Glow” and to add some glow I love to use the Hyper Real Glow palette. I fall in love with new makeup products every day! The recent purchase that I’m loving are InglotXjLo AMC pigments, those shades are so stunning, and they can really amp up any eye look without making it look overdone.

4) A drugstore product that beats the high-end product?

Drugstore products are continuously upping their game when it comes to makeup. There are so many products in my opinion that are either as good as or even better than high-end products. The Makeup Revolution highlighter in golden lights is a good dupe for NARS Albatross. The Codi Airspun is almost as good as the Laura Mercier translucent powder. The Pixi beauty highlighters can give any high-end highlighter a good run for their money. The Maybelline Age Rewind concealer is what most influencers prefer over the high-end concealers; I could just go on and on here.

5) Any product that you regret buying?

I’ve kinda regretted buying the Rose Gold Remastered Palette by Huda Beauty. The mattes are great, but while I like the shimmer shadow shades, I don’t like the texture and formulation. While I like using my fingers to apply shadows, I want to be able to use brushes too, and these shadows only work well with fingers for me. Had it been a cheaper product, I wouldn’t have minded that much, but because I made such an investment, this felt like it wasn’t worth the money overall.

6) Your recommended products for a 10mim get-ready session?

Start with a good moisturizer (any that works well with your skin type and absorbs quickly into the skin). Then SPF (don’t skip this step during the day). Apply your foundation (again, depending on your skin type and the type of coverage you prefer). Go for a liquid or powder highlighter and apply on all the high points of your face to illuminate your look. Don’t forget to apply to your brow bone and inner eye corner. Apply your lipstick and mascara (if you coat the roots of your lashes it’s going to frame your eyes just like an eyeliner would).

I'm honestly shook as I type this because I just found out that the CEO and founder of the most revolutionary skincare brand that I'm about to review passed away last night. The Ordinary. The popular 🇨🇦 skincare brand under @deciem that has shaken the skincare industry with its super (SUPER) low prices, no BS one ingredient products which makes it less overwhelming for people who haven't studied chemistry and aren't skincare geeks and of course, the minimalist packaging I adore. A fancy skincare brand would cost you 20x more when they add one of these active ingredients in their products, you'll literally get what you want for below $10 while another brand will have the exact same thing for $100+ (not exaggerating) Ok so me, being a skincare geek, and also a science student, went crazy and ordered so many of their products, if you're not from a medical or science background, the product names may get overwhelming for you, so I'll briefly explain what it is. Today's star is Salicylic Acid 2% solution. Salicylic acid is a BHA (Beta hydroxy acid), that gently exfoliates the skin. No exfoliants,no matter how promising they sound can unclog pores unless they can pass the skin's oil barrier, BHA's have a special structure which allows them to penetrate deep into the skin and break the bond holding deadskin cells together. (Basically it's like spring cleaning your skin rather than just dusting the dirt off the surface to make it look presentable) It's really popular for acne and blackheads and is often said to be drying, however the reason I love this product so much is that it's actually hydrating which makes it perfect for someone like me who suffers from cystic acne. This product is a saviour if you've blackheads, will literally melt them, but for acne, not really, it will prevent and reduce the appearance and speed up the healing process but won't be the "magic fix" for me, it's perfect for the day time because it absorbs in the skin quickly, you know it's not gonna clog (infact do the opposite) and you get this gorgeous glow. Milani’s baked blush in Luminoso!  It contours, sculpts, highlights and makes your cheeks look all rosy and dewy and pretty. I hate wearing makeup and the feeling of having a lot of products on my face, so this has been a lifesaver!

The drugstore has really upgraded its makeup game in the last few years, and personally, I don’t really think you need to buy high-end products anymore because the quality is very similar. My two drugstore must haves would be the bourjua healthy mix concealer, and the Maybelline lash sensational mascara!

5) Any product that you regret buying?

So many. I’m guilty of throwing cash on unnecessary stuff; I’m always searching and trying out new stuff. People often think I’m “beauty conscious” or something, but I’m not. I just like to test stuff. I buy products, test them out and then forget about them. (Not proud of my habits) That’s why I decided just to start a page and spill the tea about all these products that are constantly being raved about. But yeah, I’m not a fan of sheet masks, I still don’t understand what they’re supposed to do because all of them, regardless of how expensive they are, they do the exact same thing.

6) Your recommended products for a 10mim get-ready session?

My 5 go to products to look “presentable” would  either be the Maybelline fit me concealer or the LA girl pro conceal, for the eyes, I’ve never tried a better mascara than the Maybelline lash sensational, for the lips I’d just dab a little bit of red lipstick to get the rosy natural effect, and a swipe of the Milani baked blush in Luminoso on the cheekbones and you’re done! You can add eyeliner for which I’d choose the makeup revolution dual stick eyeliner pen.

I can NOT live without red or pink lipstick. I don’t need anything else, just this and I’m sorted.

3) The most recent makeup/skincare product that you fell in love with?

I recently fell in love with Garnier Hydra bomb masks in charcoal and Lemon peel mask. My skin is super sensitive and darkens really fast, but these two products have bought a significant change to my face without causing any reactions. Also, my face feels so super baby soft after using them.

4) A drugstore product that beats the high-end product?

A physician’s formula has the best bronzers in the market. You can buy either a $10 bronzer and slay, or you can buy a $60 bronzer and still not get the same result.

5) Any product that you regret buying?

I regret buying Fenty beauty’s Stunna lip paint in ‘Uncensored’. If doesn’t stay long on the lips and gives a weird streaky look.

6) Your recommended products for a 10mim get-ready session?

Always have a mascara, an eyebrow pencil, a kajal (if you’re a kajal person), a red or pink lip color, the very same for cheeks too (you can always blend the same lip color on your cheeks) and a shade brighter than your concealer.

I am using this Mom's Touch Baby Oil by #WBbyHemani for my newly born baby. I must say that it is much much better than many high end international brands. So reasonably priced and the oil has a great quality. It moisturizes the baby skin leaving it super soft and smooth for hours and my baby is loving it. Entice cosmetics liquid matte lipsticks are really of great quality, and they can actually beat any high-end lipsticks like Huda beauty, Kylie and other expensive ones. Other than this, I would love to include Masarrat Misbah & Luscious Cosmetics products as they too are as good as any high-end brand.

5) Any product that you regret buying?

I actually regret buying the conatural better than ubtan face and body scrub. I haven’t used it more than once as it is too hard to use and it has a very close expiry date, so mine expired even though the container is almost full.

6) Your recommended products for a 10mim get-ready session?

Beautify by Amna rose gold serum, Artdeco cosmetic compact mineral powder foundation or the J. NOTE Luminous moisturizing liquid foundation, Makeup revolution NEW-TRIALS vs. NEUTRAL palette, the Masarrat Misbah eyeliner, ELF baked highlighter and blush. I also highly recommend Entice cosmetics liquid matte lipstick in Skinny Dip as it is a great shade for normal use.

1) What’s your favorite skincare brand or product?

Let me tell you!! If someone comes to you and says oh this moisturizer is good you should try it, don’t fall for that!!!!! Please!! I have spent 1000s of dirhams listening to bloggers and reviews, and then think why it doesn’t work for me? We all have different skin types and different concerns. Your skin is what you feed it with. My diet is all junk whereas yours might be the high protein or vegetarian or organic one. So what works on my friend might not work for me or you. So be wise!! Go to the store, get your consultation and get a sample!! It’s free!! Test and try it before you buy!!

2) The makeup product you can’t live without is?

I have combination/oily skin type. My holy grail foundation is EsteeLauder Double wear!! I just love it!! My shade is CASHEW. Lasts you 12 hours in Dubai’s summers straight without getting into fine lines, transfer proof, no need to touch up and sweat proof! A classic red lipstick I loved Mac ruby woo but now I love Tarte liquid matte in BAE. And sometimes id rub the same lipstick on cheeks too 😀 i have good eyelashes and brows so these are two products that id die for!

3) The most recent makeup/skincare product that you fell in love with?

I am quite a lazy one when it comes to skincare but I love to exfoliate because I tend to wear makeup every day due to my work. The BEST exfoliation is in ur kitchen!!! Sugar & oil, mix it and rub on your face and you will have baby skin!! Tadaaaaaaa!! I have tried multiple brands and this served me the best since years!!

4) A drugstore product that beats the high-end product?

Okay let me be honest, I have worked and played with multiple brand products. One thing that I always tell people is instead of buying 10 cheap products and cringing that it doesn’t last or work so it’s better to buy one product and be happy about it! isn’t? But there are a couple of good catches in the market like Maybelline gel eyeliner, Maybelline fit me foundation, Medora lipsticks are THE closesttttt dupe for Mac lipsticks (can’t emphasize more), Makeup revolution concealer is a close dupe for Tarte shape tape concealer.

5) Any product that you regret buying?

Yes!!! Many and many!!!!!!!! Thats not because the product was bad, that was because i dint have the right knowledge and i heard reviews and went to buy thinking its going to be great on me too!! Learn your undertones, learn your skin texture, learn your eye shape and then invest in products. And if you want that flawless face, girl stop dreaming on that. The media is all about fillers/botox and surgeries, last but not the least photoshop!! So go easy on yourself and accept the skin you have! Remember you are beautiful.

6) Your recommended products for a 10mim get-ready session?

I have oily skin, so for me I love Clinique moisture surge moisturizer, Smashbox photo finish primer, Estee Lauder double wear foundation, any black eyeliner, a volume mascara (i love too faced better than sex mascara) and you can never go wrong with a  classic RED LIPSTICK or you can spice it up with colorful ones too like oranges/maroons/bright pinks!!!
