1. what's their favorite beverage - alcoholic and/or non-alcoholic? hana likes nice, comforting warm drinks like hot chocolate and apple cider, he hasn't really had experience with alcoholic drinks 2. what's their favorite flavor? (spicy, sweet, sour, etc.) umami tbh, some nice hearty savory stew flavors 3. what's their favorite food? BEEF Clapping hands sign STEW Clapping hands sign he also like sweets, pastries and candies and whatnot 4. breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, snacks - which do they look forward to the most? dinner cause he imagines it as a family meal, and also it's the heartiest meal 5. do they have a food or flavor they absolutely hate? bland things like.. boiled green beans.. like.. wet tasteless vegetables.. he is not a fan but who is tbh 6. can they tolerate spicy food? yeah! he likes some good heat in his meals 7. what is their favorite animal? DRAGONS! cause they're cool. also... because baby. 8. what do they wear to bed? boxers or nothing in his own home, in the castle tho he wears like. pj bottoms. 9. what position do they like to sleep in? curled up around a pillow or in a blanket, or flopped on his belly 10. are they a morning person or a night owl? he would like to be a morning person, but he tends to get excited about whatever he's working on and accidentally staying up late, which then makes him sleep in late.. 11. are they a heavy sleeper or do they wake up easily? HEAVY SLEEPER. the boy sleeps like a rock. 12. it's a rainy day, what will they do cooped up inside all day? hana has a WHOLE ROOM of stuff to work on. he tries to get old tech up and running again (with.. limited resources) or to get it to be useful in other ways. 13. do they have a favorite scent or smell? honestly... musty smell of city that was cut off and unused for a thousand years. 14. what do they smell like? do they wear perfume or cologne? a little bit sweaty, a little musty from hanging out in an abandoned city, a little like oil, wood shavings.. he smells like whatever he's been working on. he tries to just smell neutral around other people. 15. baths or showers? BATHS! BUBBLES! RELAX TIME!! taking time just to be hana. nice. 16. how good are they at cooking? it's not gourmet or anything but he can cook a tasty meal. he's worse at baking but he's practicing!! 17. what's their favorite time of year and why? winter!!! pretty snow.. relaxing quiet.. getting to go inside and get all warm and cozy.. nice. 18. do they have a favorite holiday? tbh i dont know what holidays there are in kos world... i oughta think of that.. but anything with people getting together and celebrating together is something he'd like to participate in someday 19. do they prefer buying or receiving gifts? buying!!!! hana loves giving gifts. tbh he doesn't receive a lot of gifts. maybe like.. a jar of jam one time and it made him cry. he kept the jar. 20. how tall are they, and how do they feel about their height? 4' even. he's fine with his height tbh, his insecurities come in when he thinks about what OTHER people think about his height. he definitely recognizes that he looks different than everyone he's been around. 21. can they play any instruments? not really.. he made a guitar once. was NOT good at it. 22. do they have a nice singing voice? NO! cant keep a tune to save his life, but he's the only one (besides baby) who's heard him sing so it really hasn't mattered 23. do they talk to themselves? YES! it could seem like he's talking to baby, but really... she can be asleep or somewhere else and he's just still talking to himself. who else does he have to talk to?! let him live. 24. do they enjoy music? what kind? tbh he probably enjoys "old timey" music he found in the ancient city so like.. synth pop LMAO 25. do they make friends easily? yes! surprisingly, from his popularity in the town. he had a bad first impression whoops. but he's just very charming and sweet and wants to be your friend. 26. surprise birthday party! how do they react? crying. happy crying. but a lot of crying. he won't stop. please stop crying hana. second surprise party would go over better, he'd just cry at the beginning and then have fun at the party. 27. what is their favorite flower, if they have one? hydrangea.. symbolize heartfelt emotions 28. how does your character feel about wearing jewelry? neutral? i like putting him in a lot of jewelry, but it's not something he'd do himself. besides like. his ear and nose piercings (and the other one lol) those are kind of special. he's had those since before he can remember 29. if they wear jewelry, what's their favorite piece? his teal earrings! he was gifted those (one of the like 2 gifts he's received lol) by someone very important to him 30. fashion forward or fashion disaster? fashion neutral? he's definitely not fashionable when he dresses himself (in the clothes he made himself lmao) but he's not like.. offensively disastrous 31. what kind of underwear does your character wear? boxer briefs? for comfort. that's hana's goal picking out his own clothes. comfort. 32. do they wear makeup? what kind? not regularly but he's not against it. he likes looking pretty. he likes eyeliners especially but will sit there and let u put whatever on his face. 33. do they paint their nails? HELL YEAH he paints his toenails since he works with his hands and it'd chip off. after bath nail painting time. paints baby's claws too. 34. are they quick to get haircuts or do they often let it grow out? after his introduction to the townspeople with his hair that had been grown out for years and NOT well taken care of.. he keeps up with haircuts now. he doesn't want to give people reasons to dislike him lmao 35. do they know how to whistle? through the front gap in his fangs yes 36. or how to braid hair? he knows how to braid his own hair for sure. he hasn't had other hair to practice on but he would know how to braid like.. leather cord or stuff for other crafts projects. so i think he'd be good at it. he'd learn like fancy patterns and such 37. are they scared if anything in nature - bugs, snakes, lightning, being on the water, etc.? lightning and storms definitely. he spent his formative years under a mountain, safe from all that, any sort of dangerous weather freaks him out. 38. have they ever thought they were about to die? not that he remembers. but there were times. 39. how do they react to getting sick? a big baby. snuggled up in a thousand blankets with chicken noodle soup and hot teas. 40. are they afraid of blood? not especially? he's been injured before and had to patch himself up. bad injuries tho... lots of blood..... he wouldn't do great with that. 41. how do they earn money? hana builds and repairs stuff for the town mostly in exchange for produce and such. he doesn't really.. have money. 42. are they satisfied with their occupation or long to do something else? he enjoys helping people, so in that way he's satisfied. he'd rather people were more interested in his side job of repairing old tech and making his own tech stuff but... that's not legal. 43. how creative are they? quite creative! he has a number of different crafting hobbies and is always looking for more. he's not great at like.. like if you gave him a paintbrush and were like 'paint' he would just paint whatever was in front of him. not some imagined thing. 44. do they know how to draw? how skilled are they? he's good at like.. accurately drawn schematics? technical drawings. i dont think he would be great at like. portraits tho. like. he could probably draw an accurate face but it'd like completely lifeless. 45. what do they carry around with them during the day (ie in their pockets, a bag, a purse...) 1) a baby 2) his tablet, that's what's with him all the time.. except rn in the story.. when he is without both.. :( 46. do they have a sweet tooth? OH YEAH. he doesn't get a lot of sweets where he is (he's working on learning how to bake them) so he really enjoys good sweets when he gets his hand on them 47. haute cuisine or cheap eats? hana likes good homemade food, i guess cheap eats would be the closer of the two 48. do they know how to swim? HONESTLY.. PROBABLY NOT.. boy has not been around water much 49. do they have any scars? how did they get them? nah! at this point he is more or less scar free. i'm sure he has a few tiny ones from like.. when baby was playing a bit too wildly or something and he got a nasty little scratch but nothing like... big. 50. what kind of handwriting do they have? neat, messy, cursive, MESSY. like a kid who was never really taught how to write. he usually writes on his tablet, which has been taught how to recognize his handwriting and converts it to readable text.

BON:

bon can be hard so on questions where it's not really applicable now (like.. favorite foods and the like), i'll just go with what WOULD have been the case. when he was younger. 1. what's their favorite beverage - alcoholic and/or non-alcoholic? flavored sparkling waters, he likes the bubbles. he likes high alcohol content drinks, so it does its job. 2. what's their favorite flavor? (spicy, sweet, sour, etc.) he likes fresh, citrus-y flavors, whatever category that slots into. 3. what's their favorite food? THE ALL POWERFUL ORANGE, a good orange is a treat for bon 4. breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, snacks - which do they look forward to the most? snacks, cause he can generally eat them alone and not be judged 5. do they have a food or flavor they absolutely hate? puddings and yogurts and stuff like that, soft foods 6. can they tolerate spicy food? a fair amount, but he does have limits (he will not admit it) 7. what is their favorite animal? farm animals, especially working animals, they're nice and usually calm, bon likes that 8. what do they wear to bed? either whatever he's wearing at the time he knocks out or nothin 9. what position do they like to sleep in? huddled in a corner 10. are they a morning person or a night owl? BOTH! he's not a sleeper. if you find him sleeping its because he was probably up the past 3+ days and he just knocked out. 11. are they a heavy sleeper or do they wake up easily? if he's sleeping cause he hadn't slept the past week, he doesn't wake up easily, but if it's a purposeful rest he wakes up to a pin dropping. also re: bon sleeping, he technically can go without sleep indefinitely but he has to go into his lava form to kinda.. refresh his stats so to speak 12. it's a rainy day, what will they do cooped up inside all day? pre-incident: read! study! practice magic. post-incident: think about mortality and stare at a wall 13. do they have a favorite scent or smell? fresh air on a cool day. but he's also nostalgic about the stink smell of a tavern. 14. what do they smell like? do they wear perfume or cologne? ash and smoke. and on special days ;) burnt flesh ;) he doesn't wear perfume or cologne, he just smells weird all the time. 15. baths or showers? showers, a quick spray down and then he's out of the water as quick as possible. 16. how good are they at cooking? QUITE! bon can cook and he can cook good. he's stayed with a lot of families over the years and learned a lot of good tricks and recipes, plus what he learned from when he was growing up and would somewhat regularly cook for himself. 17. what's their favorite time of year and why? summer. he does well in the heat. also the days are longest. bon likes it when it's light out. 18. do they have a favorite holiday? bon doesn't like holidays! cause holidays come with traditions. and traditions come with expectations. and expectations come with punishments. 19. do they prefer buying or receiving gifts? giving, i guess? receiving gifts can come with a price. but it's nice to give a gift and know you expect nothing in return. 20. how tall are they, and how do they feel about their height? bonk is 5'9", he's fine with it 21. can they play any instruments? YES!!! he can play a variety, his favorites are harp and fiddle, though he also can play a mean flute, though that was mostly from his upbringing so he doesn't like it all too much 22. do they have a nice singing voice? YES!!!!! he has a most beautiful voice. he can rouse a room with a good folk song or bring a room to tears with a mournful ballad 23. do they talk to themselves? ahahaha yes. we have already seen this in comic. bon struggles with differentiating between reality and his.. imagination i guess. so. that can often lead to him just talking to himself. 24. do they enjoy music? what kind? yes! bon enjoys all sorts of music, but mostly songs you can sing along to. bar songs, shanties, ballads, he enjoys them all. he like songs that have an emotion to them if that makes sense. 25. do they make friends easily? NO. bon is both unfriendly and untrusting. however. if you are nice to him but once........... he Will die for you. and he will die for any child. loves childs. 26. surprise birthday party! how do they react? POORLY. either confused why people thought it would be a fun idea or angry that he was caught off guard. now... if you do it right..... have the surprise just be like.. a cake waiting at home or something.. a quiet night.. he will appreciate it. he Will die for you. 27. what is their favorite flower, if they have one? daffodil.. rebirth.. eternal life.. unrequited love.. perfect 28. how does your character feel about wearing jewelry? he's not a huge fan tbh. makes him feel like someone's shiny show piece. but he does like an earring or two or three 29. if they wear jewelry, what's their favorite piece? he doesn't wear jewelry regularly :( but he likes earrings! he likes little hoops that go on the top of his big ears 30. fashion forward or fashion disaster? more fashion forward than a disaster. he doesn't dress himself like.. super well.. cause his clothing tends to not last super long, but he knows how to look good 31. what kind of underwear does your character wear? YES! quite a few times, though not anymore lmao. one of the first times he ran away from home and nearly starved to death, the... incident, and when he was turned into a basbeo, just to name a few 39. how do they react to getting sick? pretending like he's not. pushing himself too hard until he cannot pretend anymore. nowadays tho.. he just turn into lava man and boom. all better. 40. are they afraid of blood? nah, he's seen plenty of it by this point to just not even register it. not even mostly his own! see this isn't a sad answer. 41. how do they earn money? HE DON'T! what use does a dog have for money u feel me 42. are they satisfied with their occupation or long to do something else? bon was basically a travelling bard at one point and oh boy he longs to go back to those days. his current occupation of 'guy who steals, kidnaps, murders and destroys on command' just isn't fulfilling for him. 43. how creative are they? i'd say pretty creative. he's not really doing anything with it right now, but he's a pretty imaginative guy. 44. do they know how to draw? how skilled are they? i think so! i figure that would be part of his lessons when he was younger. so he's probably.. too good at it. opposite of hana, where he's be good at portraiture and like.. pretty scenes. this also makes me think of little bon running around and putting lil devil horns on his mom's portraits 45. what do they carry around with them during the day (ie in their pockets, a bag, a purse...) doesn't really have.. a lot of things.. in the same vein tho, that jacket he wears, he's had for a while, and it's been through a lot now (i.e. the missing bottom) but. it's something he repairs and takes care of. it's special to him. for reasons. 46. do they have a sweet tooth? not especially, he doesn't like Sugar Sweet stuff, but he does like.. apples n stuff. he'll eat a peach croissant and enjoy it. everything in balance. 47. haute cuisine or cheap eats? cheap eats: more food for less 48. do they know how to swim? yes but he doesn't do it anymore cause he'll get too cold and seize up and lava man will just become a rock. he can use like.. hot tubs and very warm baths. he CAN enjoy those. 49. do they have any scars? how did they get them? well! bon had scars previous to his charred limbs (you'll see them soon) from being burned. because of.. reasons. i never know how depressing to get when talking about bon :( anyways, his charred limbs didn't happen immediately after becoming a basbeo. it basically happens when there's like.. a struggle for control between bon, his elemental, and who or whatever (maighstir, priomh, tera, his cuffs, etc.) is trying to control bon's transformation abilities. like either trying to use more power than he's being allowed, or to resist using it at all. they feel weird and crusty and leathery and warm! so the last one is kind of nice. it is unpleasant to hold his hand. 50. what kind of handwriting do they have? neat, messy, cursive, BOY CAN'T WRITE ANYMORE! he used to have really neat cursive handwriting like.. calligraphy style.

Inktober 2019

I don’t know how many people got to know about it, but the arson attack at Kyoto Animation claimed its 36th victim this October, thus I decided to use KyoAni’s main titles for my very first time taking part in Inktober. Here’s to hoping that this will serve as a small homage to whoever it was, whose passing won’t be as widely regarded as the previous ones.

All 31 illustrations in full size and their descriptions under the cut.

Basically a collection of very simple ink sketches made in a hurry. Some were drawn with KyoAni’s style, some with my own style and some were a blending of both. I don’t particularly like how grainy the scans turned out after being diminished because it makes them look like digital art instead of ink art, but it’s a fact that they were too big to fit in one post otherwise. Anyway, here goes nothing...

Day 1: Ring Kuriyama Mirai (Kyoukai no Kanata) Pretty self-explanatory, and also the picshot that started this mini-project (yes, I took it with my phone). The others are all proper scans, though.

first of all, i’m so deeply honored that my art could get you into a game, and also : god i’m fucking sorry lol

okay so long /, the read mores don’t work, you’re gonna have to bear with it

so tldr i have… EXTENSIVE imaginated stories about dave, hal and sunny living in a little remote cabin in alaska. 

BACKSTORY 

i’d imagine it’d come somewhere post-mgs2 even though sunny is already a bit grown so maybe like just disregard canon OR imagine a different timeline i don’t know, and it’s from a place where hal and dave don’t have anything to do after the mgs2 incidents (so no mgs4 and love of god NO accelerated aging i can’t deal with this), and there is this atmosphere of… “we’ve been sticking together for so long, i can’t see ourselves just parting ways (plus we have a kid to raise and i can’t imagine raising her alone) so how about we make the rest of our lives together” and dave is just like… “hey, we’ve been running all across the country, jumping from shitty motel to shitty motel to shittier apartments, and i have this cabin i once lived in, how about we just all move into it and re-inhabit it” and that’s just how it starts. 

THE CABIN

it’s a cabin i have extensively thought about (because i’m obsessed with cabins and being a hermit, so that helps). it’d be near the shore of the Twin Lakes, Alaska (taken from the canon fact that this is where snake lived pre-MGS1), so they’d live off-the-grid and in almost-self-sufficiency (they become more and more self-sufficient as time goes on and they make more adjustments to the cabin). 

i imagine it would look similar to Proenneke’s cabin (which incidentally is also near Twin Lakes), maybe on the other shore, all wood with a vegetation/moss roof + a slight porch/elevation to protect the entrance from a bit of the snow. it’d be surrounded by wooden little dog kennels/crates for the huskies (more on that later) similar to the ones in [this video] around the 0:59 min mark (warning for animal death/general stuff that goes on in a trapper’s lifestyle for the vid).

it here’s a floor plan of the cabin, not to proportions because i’m just shit at it :

not pictured : when sunny was smaller (before the addition), her bed was like a little shelf just above the big bed (that hal and dave share) with little like “walls” so she doesn’t fall and a thick mattress, which was discarded when she got her new room.

later would be added an outdoor kitchen and a chicken coop (more on that…….. later)

EATING THERE

as i said, they’d first be living in semi-dependency : every ¾ weeks they’d have to go to Port Alsworth/Anchorage or somewhere else to stock tf up. Snake would fish (you can fish for subsistence if you’ve been living in Alaska for over a year according to law) and hunt (seems to be the same type of law when hunting for food, YES i’ve researched this, leave me alone) for food. As he has done odd jobs to afford his cabin, I imagine he’d have done crabbing, and would show up to help on crabbing boats from time to time to get some of them crabs.

later, I imagine they would get 4 rescue hens to get some of them fresh eggs. snake would build a chicken scoop from forest wood. 1 of the hens wouldn’t be able to make eggs because she was traumatized from the industry but they still took her in because she was close friends with the other hens and they didn’t want to separate them. 

I imagine Snake had been growing his own herbs in the kitchen but maybe they’d get a greenhouse ready.

they’d go foraging for berries, fruits and mushrooms according to the seasons and make a SHITTON of jams and preserves.

LIVING THERE

i imagine there would be a lot of solidarity with the surrounding populations. for exemple, Hal would help set up and manage online dictionaries for Iñupiat, Yup'ik or Alutiiq languages with the local communities, maybe help wire up some schools, things like that, and as thanks some people would go check on them and give em veggies or something.

THE DOGS :

Snake is getting them.

since we don’t know what happened to his huskies around mgs1, i suppose/guess they were at some time confiscated from him, so first, he’s get a lovely husky female from a shelter (i also have long thought about how he’d never go to a breeder and only adopt, because the whole “creature created with a man’s ideal in mind” hits a bit too close for him you feel) that would later be revealed as pregnant with like 5 puppies (it will come back later as relevant as promise). Then he’d do his best to regain contact with his huskies, maybe setting up a call on social media (THIS WILL BE PART OF A BRAIN ROTTING DEGENERACY I WILL EXPAND ON IN A MINUTE) to find them again. i imagined he would get to see one of his old huskies, who has well aged, who was adopted by some nice nice people. then said nice people, after his visit, insisting on him getting his husky back because “since you left she hasn’t been herself, she refused to eat. we think she misses you too much. we love her tons and it breaks our heart to let her go, but we think she would be so much happier by your side” type of deal, i’m fucking crying just thinking about it.

of course, once his team is back in shape, he’s run the Iditarod again. Hed keep contact with hal over walkietalkie during the race. hal would jump in his arms when he crosses the finish line, the pic would circulate in the news. it’d be cute i’m saying.

THE HENS :

as I said, adopted, in a little scoop snake built himself. they give eggs. sometimes they let them roam free and they bully hal when he peels vegetables (i’ve drawn smth about this). sunny feeds them in the mornings. things are good.

MORNING ROUTINE :

Snake wakes up around 5AM because he don’t need no sleep and goes to his huskies. feeds them. then make them run. when he gets back around 8 to 8:30, hal is still asleep. snake makes breakfast. the scents wake hal up. things are good.

SUNNY?

Sunny is taught by snake how to chop wood. he makes a tiny axe for her tiny hands. he and hal teach her how to swim in the Twin Lakes. the waters cold but she grows immune to it, strong and stronger. she learns how to differenciate which mushrooms and berries are edible.

they try to send her to school but she’s WAY too advanced and is bored to death. she stays at home. she’s outside all day or she learns astrophysics with Hal, who’s taking online classes in his free time. she learns some Athabaskan languages at a community class once in a while, she makes some friends.

HOW’S THE WEATHER

They go on hikes a lot. Often, and long ones. At first, sunny is in a little baby back carrier (i have drawn about this), then she walks just right. Alaska has gorgeous national parks, they explore them, year after year. They arrive in a town, exhausted and beat, they find a hotel room. It has a bathtub and warm water. Hal is OVERJOYED.

in the earliest hints of spring, snake takes them to Fairbanks through the beautiful alaskan railroad. they see the most beautiful and powerful of northern lights during the full season. hal and sunny can’t tear their eyes from the skies.

THIS IS WHERE I GO CRAZY GO STUPID.

ok…. so bear with me.

i mentioned an internet/social media presence.

it’s because in a deviation of this daydream, snake has a little youtube channel (and an instagram to go with it).

it’s not much. it’s really not, but hal has a few cameras and more that he finds and fixes.

it’s mostly lowkey, chill vlogs. stuff like 

“slow alaskan winter day (no talking)” 

“sprintime berry picking ( + jams recipes!)”

“alaskan summer outdoor fire cookout ( + wild moose and caribou near the lake)”

“denali national park hike (day 1)”

stuff that like you know. as well as some more…

“i ran the iditarod (and won)”

“we got hens (building a chicken scoop, meeting the rescue hens and more)”

“musher’s morning routine (i’d recommend you didn’t try this at home if you are not the genetically engineered clone of a super-soldier, for your sake)”

and as you guessed…

“so our rescue husky was pregnant… (i’m an idiot who didn’t notice, trip to the vet, building a whelping pen, whelping, bottlefeeding tiny pup + all the puppies’ pictures!)”

where dave would teach hal how to bottlefeed a puppy and you’d be able to hear hal’s “oh god oh god oh god oh god”s from out of frame as the camera focuses on dave’s hands holding his to have him perfectly cup the puppy in his palm and carry the bottle. this type of deal.

then follow-up videos of the puppies climbing the bed where hal is, playing on his gameboy. he chuckles nervously and then heartily when a puppy licks his face.

some winter days, the videos have snake bringing all the huskies in the small cabin. some of them sit calmly on the wide bed where hal studies his astrophysics.

and an instagram with wilderness pictures… all except a few taken by hal. some of snake posing in front of the snowed in cabin. some of warm drinks made on winter days. you know the deal.

and they’d have such a nice… positive… lowkey and easy-going comment section. dave would reply to a lot of them. 

he’d get quite a share of “hey man, i love your vids so much, thank you for posting this content. i was wondering, sorry if it’s a bit too personal, are you and your roommate dating? you two seem very close, but i don’t want to assume anything 😅 absolutely love your content either way, you’re the only youtuber i have notifs on” to which he’d reply “thank you so much, really appreciate it. and we’re not, we’ve just known each other for a long, long time. we’re aware two straight guys raising a child and living together isolated makes for a bit of confusion, but it’s totally platonic between us. thanks for sticking around.” but one day he uploads a vid that’s like 

“crabbing in juneau ! + life update (please read description)”

and the desc + the first 20 seconds of the vid is a text superimposed over embarassing pictures of hal and it reads “hey all / quick personal update, i’ll make it quick / otacon and i realized we loved each other / (as more than friends that is) / so if we seem just a bit closer in the videos from now on this is why / no idea how this is going to turn out for up / but yeah. if he seems a bit more affectionate it’s because we’re dating now, or something like that / and to everyone whom i told ‘it’s just strictly platonic between us’:  / well. ha ha. whoops. / anyway thank you for reading / enjoy the video” and all the comments would be like “that’s so dope i’m so happy for you” and other “tbf we saw that coming” and snake would smash that like button on these comments.

and he’d have a video of the whole iditarod race as taken from a camera on his jacket/on his sled… and he’d have videos of him filming hal film the landscape through the window of the train during their trip to fairbanks… and of hal and sunny in said train sharing a tangerine… and of him building a little axe for sunny…. and he’d always ask her if she is okay with being on camera, and when she’d say no he’d make sure she doesn’t appear on here or add a cute husky sticker on her face so she’s not seen.

just lowkey. chill. upbeat. simple life moments. he’d disappear off the internet for a month because he’s just enjoying the life and when he’d come back everyone would be very understanding and glad to see some cool pictures or vids. you know? just chilling. just chilling. just living.

one day before a “hiking through lake clark national park” he has the same little life update thing and it goes “hey / so otacon and i got married / sunny and aksinya [rescued pregant husky] were our flower girls / otacon cried / i cried / anyway, enjoy the video” over pictures of the tiny alaskan wedding. and it’s well.

Commissions OPEN!

For a long time, I’ve been considering Commissions; IE, you pay me to write a thing, and I write it. But I’ve had a ton of other projects I was juggling so it wasn’t feasible before now. Some of those are taken care of, and also I have no money, so let’s give it a whirl!

This is on a trial basis: if you ask and I tell you I'm no longer accepting commissions, then that's it! Please don't be mean. I took a look around Tumblr and borrowed ideas and snippets from a few other posts to give me a better notion of how to do this. Seriously, this is my first shot so I'm doing my best! sorry that i took forever to finally write these lol! but here ya go! 

Margo had truly never been the one to fall absentmindedly in love, especially any kind of love that she defined as “love at first sight.” However, when sitting with Quentin and Eliot under the sun, Margo fixed her eyes on a particular blonde. She tucked herself inwardly, the blonde; her books pressed closely to her chest, eyes searching the Brakebills plaza for a secluded place. Margo watched her for a minute, entranced, before shaking away her vibrant thoughts. There was nothing more Margo hated then catching feelings, and the matter of catching them at light-speed compared to the fleeting attraction of lust.

It overwhelmed her, the idea that just from the fleeting image of the blonde girl, the minimal knowledge that she contained about her (brilliant Alice Quinn, sister of Charlie, Alice Quinn). So rationalism aside, Margo resorted to what she always did; her arbitrary, careless comments that carried empty air inside them.

“Hey, Alice, come join us,” Margo called to her, hand cupping the side of her mouth to amplify her voice. Alice, it appeared, was not particularly swayed by this, these following notions; by these mindless comments that floated her way. She removed herself from the plaza promptly and Margo watched her leave; her mouth twitching. Why was she so obsessed with driving away people?

Margo brushed it off and giggled, looking up at Eliot, who leaned against a stone pillar, sunglasses nearly sliding off the tip of his nose; a cigarette dangled from his fingers. Margo brought her knees to her chest, mimicking the smallness that Quentin tucked himself into. She had known him for the shortest time, but she could tell, without doubt, that he threw himself one hundred percent into his emotions. It was something Margo would laugh at him for, but in the private darkness of her life, would desperately pray for.

Night swiftly fell across the Brakebills campus, wrapping its expansive arms around the student body, who brought their own bodies close to one another, drinks clashing and spilling across the floors of multiple student residencies. Alice had tucked herself into a small corner, hesitant to participate in the madness. It was getting late, indeed, and Alice had quite enough, deciding to head back to her bedroom.

The bedroom had been provided for the new students until they had been sorted into their disciplines. It was rugged and neat and the prim beds were hard beneath Alice.

Alice walked down the deserted hallway, her fingers trailing along the stone wall, feeling for grooves and little indents. So many stories resided in these walls, just like the stories of each person jamming themselves against the soft skin of another; beer washing down their shirts, all purchased with different intent, with a different style in mind; stories of predators and prey, the bully and the bullied.

It didn’t bother her the way it used to. In the past, she always needed to be the smart one; her parents didn’t care much, they coddled Charlie; Charlie, Alice knew and thought and believed, was the only one who actually loved her, was willing to teach her and be her friend. He’d been the leading light for so long in Alice’s life; she had often found herself pouring over books just to meet the speed of Charlie. But he was dead and it didn’t have to matter now; the kids with good parents, kind and helpful and faithful parents, who coddled them and taught them and never worried if they failed a class or got a horrible grade; Alice could watch them, and be sad for a little bit, but it didn’t have to bother her, because she would never get the life they had.

When she got to her bedroom the light was filtered; the room dark and barely illuminated. However, in the faint light, Alice could see a small outline on the bed; a lump, not that bigger than a cat. She’d dealt with her predators before and prepared to shoot a spell in the direction of the outline.

Alice flipped the light on and flooded the room with a shattering brightness and Alice began forming shapes with her fingers before realizing there wasn’t any animated creature, any animated prank, any animated bullying. It, instead, was a bundle of flowers; red, white, pink, all wrapped with a simple tweed string. Though still unsure, Alice slowly moved hesitantly toward the flowers.

She noticed a little note tied to one of the fresh, green stems. With timid fingers, Alice reached for the note; a crisp white little card that had scrawling handwriting, curves, and dips. There were only had a few words, but it took up the entirety of the note.

Immediately her mind was pulled to the girl from the plaza, legs splayed in front of her, sitting with two boys; one tall and smoking, the other drawn into himself, nervously watching her. He had come to apologize about the girl’s behavior, after, and when Alice was in no mood to engage in conversation.

Alice placed down the note, though it lingered between her fingers for just a moment longer than intended, before lifting up the bouquet and bringing it to her nose. The petals tickled the tip of her nose, but the smell was incredible; it had been magicked with an aromatic spell, and, also, what Alice thought, was a ‘long-lasting’ charm. A brief smile passed her lips.

This, she knew, could not make up backhanded comments; quick sneers; voiceless assumptions; but it was more then Alice could’ve ever received. Quentin tried apologizing on behalf of the girl, but there are some things better left for the perpetrator to say. Though, Alice would’ve preferred the occurrence happen in person.

“Hey.” A soft voice crept from the narrow doorway. Speak of the Devil.

Alice swung around, hair twirling around her gentle head. At the door stood the girl from the plaza; she wore what she had been wearing then when she’d spat shielded hatred toward her, it struck Alice.

“Did you give me these flowers?” Alice asked though it came out as more of a demand than anything else. She still held them, in her hand, which had clenched suddenly. The stems screamed between her furious grip, which had once been soft, only moments ago.

“Yes,” the girl said. “I didn’t know what to get someone, really, after I’ve ridiculed them.” Alice remained quiet and the girl carried on in hopes of breaking the silent spell. “I say shit, all the time, to everybody. This time I felt fucking weird afterward, for being ignorant and rude to you. Shit, Alice, I really don’t apologize often enough to know how to do this properly.”

Alice paused, grabbing a moment to take it in. She knew her name, she wasn’t subtle about that. Clearly, she knew more about Alice; at least, enough to know where her bedroom was. There must’ve been actual work behind this girl getting her a bouquet of flowers; laying them on her bed… lurking in the shadows.

“What’s your name?”

“Margo.”

“That’s a pretty name,” Alice whispered as Margo slunk further into the room without notice. “Don’t worry, I don’t get apologized often enough to. So I guess we’re both lacking something of that respect.”

“Well, I tried my best to make it formal. Didn’t even ask for Eliot’s help this time; well, I don’t think I’ve ever asked him for help in anything period, but all the same,” Margo laughed. For a minute, Alice could swear she saw a sparkle shine in Margo’s eyes; a quick glance of the sun; smiling, beaming brightly.

“Would you like to stay for a bit?” Alice asked. She took a step toward Margo, almost as if to reach for her hand; drag her to the bed so they could sit and chat for a bit.

“Actually, I have to get back to a party. I saw you leave and took the chance to appear in person,” Margo stated, though, seeing the frown that instantly passed Alice’s mouth, rerouted her words. “Just fucking with you! Of course, I can stay.”

Alice took this opportunity to grab Margo’s hand, which was soft beneath her own fingers, which her mother had always regarded as thick and rough; fingers not fit for a girl, fingers that she had inherited from her father. It overtook Alice for a moment; this girl has good parents, or had them once, and lost them miserably; though, whatever her story, she’d lived something good a short time ago. Alice could feel the world trembling in the small, gentleness of Margo’s hand; it rocked her, calmly, as she brought Margo to the bed.

They sat, together, for the night. Mostly in quiet, though they spoke some of magic. Alice told her about Charlie; finally confident that someone might be able to understand her need to be smart; that someone else couldn’t channel their emotions they way they wanted. That could be something they shared, something they could help each other with, Alice thought. She wanted this moment to stay forever; the flowers, Margo’s soft palm, the sparkle in Margo’s eyes, the warmth that surrounded Alice’s own heart.

Wake Up, May’n Famitsu Interview

*** TL Note: The kanji  笑 written in the interview is the equivalent of lol, so it symbolizes laughter from that person.

First off, Wake Up May’n. How did such a collaboration come to be? Can you tell us how this all started?

May’n: It was at an event in 2016, the Nendoroid 10th Anniversary Live I think it was called, and that’s where I first saw Wake Up, Girls. I took a look at their stage performance, and it was just love at first sight. Right after their performance ended I tweeted them saying “They were shining so bright!!”. After that, I watched all of the anime and from there I became a huge fan. Sometime after, whenever I’ve met up with WUG’s staff they’ve told me how much they liked me, so I told them “Let’s sing together then!” So from there we got to collab and sing together for one night at Anime Jam 2016. That event made me realize how popular such a unit could be. It was pretty unexpected.

Seeing how you’re an artist too, or really a fan, this must’ve come as a huge surprise for you.

That’s right, I’m just your average fan.

Did you two [Nanami and Miyu] see the tweets?

Miyu: It was such a popular topic among the members! “That May’n-san?! Interested in US?!?!”

Nanami: “She saw all of the anime??” “In such a short amount of time?!” All the members were sort so giddy after hearing that.

(笑) By the way May’n-san, who’s your oshi from the group? ***TL Note: Oshi is term for most liked member of an idol group.

May’n: I get asked that pretty often, but I really love all 7 members!

You really do support each and every one of them don’t you?

May’n: Yes. When I first saw them on stage, seeing them sweat from all that energy and passion, I just thought they were amazing. I could also feel a sort strong bond between the fans too. That sensation I felt then was what got me to start watching the anime. That feeling still hasn’t left me even to this day. My impression of them grew over time, and they’re still full of so much passion!

(To Miyu and Nanami) So it’s like that.

Nanami: Ahhh! I’m so glad I was sweating!!

Miyu: And here I tend to worry a lot about sweating.

May’n: Is that so?!

Nanami: WUG’s uniform has long sleeves and it tends to get really hot.

Miyu: During the summer we usually wear the “Shoujo Koukyoukyoku” uniforms pretty often. And conversely with “Beyond the Bottom”, we wear these thin white garments during the winter. So with that, WUG is really thrown all over the place haha!  (笑)

So back to Anime JAM, how did all of you from WUG feel about that collaboration?

Miyu: Of course we knew about May’n even before we started our work as Wake Up, Girls. She’s such a big name Anisong artist! Every time we heard her voice, we would be like “WHAT DO WE DO!?!?! OUR EARS ARE SO EXCITED!!!”, especially during her solo.

Nanami: Waa! We were so happy!

Miyu: Mayushii was like “Wow, what do I do?! May’n is singing my solo part!” (笑)

May’n: Me too! I was thinking “Ahh… I wonder if it’s alright for me to do this, because this is Mayushii’s part after all!!” I was really conflicted then. (笑)

Speaking of which, May’n-san. How did it feel singing “Tachiagare”?

May‘n: Learning the dance was pretty difficult. On top of that, I also had to learn to sing a new song. WUG being able to have the strength to continue singing and dancing together really makes me admire them even more! But because I love WUG so much, I wanted to persevere and properly present their song, Tachiagare. Since it was a collab after all, I studied and trained as hard as I could saying things like “So this move goes like so, right?” and “I’ll also dance to this part too!”

Miyu: I remembered a lot of things from past rehearsals, so after all that time I felt like I became a master.

Nanami: Right? The rehearsal went smoothly and was completed in the blink of an eye.

WUGners really do go all out don’t they? (笑) Have your impressions of May’n changed after meeting her?

Nanami: During Anime JAM we wore our uniforms from the song “Bokura no Frontier” which is a light blue color. In accordance, May’n-san chose to wear clothes that were a similar style to ours. So at first, we all had this image of May’n-san being “cool”, but since that event we came to learn that she’s a really kind and friendly person. We were just so happy.

Miyu: We usually had this image in our heads of May’n-chan in tanks tops and short pants thinking “SO COOOOOL!” but then we were like “MAY’N-CHAN IN A SKIRT?! AAAAAAAH SO CUUUUTE!”

May’n: Thank you. (笑)

How about you May’n-san? Has your impression of WUG changed as well?

May’n: I get this feeling from them that they all have this place where they want to be. Striving hard to reach a goal. They do so many things like music videos, modeling for photos, and etc. They even practice a lot during their free time too. I felt really drawn to them because of that. Even now my impression of them hasn’t changed, but more like it’s been reaffirmed.

I see. On to another subject, what are your favorite songs from each other?

May’n: Mine has to be Beyond the Bottom. Seeing WUG perform that song was what made me fall for them. Seeing them in that white one-piece, singing and dancing frantically with their hair flying about while also perspiring. I thought of it as something “sacred”.

It really felt like you were watching a drama of sorts wasn’t it?

May’n: That’s right! Just like that! Because of that I really wanted to follow WUG-chan and ended up watching the entire anime series.

Nanami: That really makes happy… I’m so glad we’ve been trying so hard up to now.

How about you two? What are your favorite songs from May’n?

Miyu: For me it would have to be… “Diamond Crevasse”!

Nanami: Ah! That’s what I wanted to say!

Miyu: (笑) I’ll like any song, but during the Aniuta Live 2017 (AniUpa) I was listening to the song from backstage. When I heard it I got goosebumps! It felt like a song from the heart. It really moved me. I was like “For some reason I’m crying!” (笑)

Nanami: My choice is also the same, “Diamond Crevasse”. It was also at AniUpa 2017, when I heard it I could feel it giving courage but also moving me to tears. “What are these feelings??” We’ll never forget that figure and powerful performance. At that time, we felt like we wanted to do a performance that would be just as deep as that.

Nanami: It really does have an amazing sensation.

Miyu: The song has wide range and depth to it!

Nanami: Yup, I agree.

May’n: Really? (笑) Thank you!

So tell us, Wake Up May’n! One kind of song is One In a Billion?

May’n: The title of the anime it’s a theme song for, “Restaurant to Another World”, holds a hint. “A once in a lifetime encounter” is the theme of the song. I feel like it’s something that was created because of my meeting with WUG. It’s a song that gives me the hope and excitement to explore the unknown.

Nanami: It’s the opening theme of “Restaurant to Another World” after all, so you’ll hear some cute words like “Peko Peko” sprinkled like spice onto the lyrics.

Miyu: It really is a song that brings out excitement. Just like May’n-chan said, this song wouldn’t be a thing if it weren’t for WUG and May’n meeting. In the first half of the song, we’re divided into singing our own parts, but during the last part we end up coming together. I think it’s a great song.

So May’n and WUG come as one later in the song.

Miyu: Yes. It’s an important point in the song, and I hope people give it a good listen.

Is there any part of the song that feels different from your past ones?

Nanami: The lyrics in the song feel really bright, whereas some of WUG’s song lyrics feel pretty dark. (笑)

May’n: That’s pretty surprising.  (笑)

Nanami: When I first went over the lyrics, I was so surprised that I said “It’s so blinding!!”

May’n: I thought so too.  (笑)

Miyu: We really did have the same thing in mind.  (笑)

May’n: But still, I was glad to have basked in WUG-chan’s cuteness. It felt really refreshing to sing a song that was brimming so much with smiles and cheer. A lot of my songs don’t carry that kind of energy.

Haha, it must feel like walking into a dark house when you come home.

May’n: Well they’re just lyrics, y’know.  (笑)

What can we expect when listening to One In A Billion？

Miyu: At first the song starts off with a relaxing and slow tempo, but once the doors are opened a rush of energy just flows through. I hope it’s something that a lot of people will look forward to.

Nanami: Before the chorus, we have a part where we say “FU! SION! MIX! CHA!”. Lyrics like that kind of feel like there’s some sort of communication going on between a cook and their customers. I’d like people to enjoy that.

May’n: Lots of food words are inserted throughout the song, but there are also the words “Like and Dislike” too to show that there’s lots of things that link food and life together. I want people to pay close attention to those parts. Also, I hope that some WUG fans can discover me the way I discovered them. It makes me excited for what the future holds and what kind of people I’ll encounter along the way.

So WUG, you performed at Osaka for the first time. What was it like?

Nanami: We were wondering what the audience would be like since it was our first performance their after all, but we were really well received.

Miyu: Their excitement just exploded!

Nanami: We thought “Thank goodness!” And during the later parts we just sang.

May’n: Dancing itself must’ve been difficult.

Miyu: It was pretty hard. The bar for WUG has definitely been raised as of late.

Nanami: So in our setlist we sang “Koi de Ai de Bokun Desu” and after that we sang “One In a Billion”.

May’n: Eeh?! Wow! So it’s just one dance after another!

Nanami: Yep! And even after that we still had character songs to perform…

Miyu: It was really exhausting. (lol)

(Everybody laughs)

May’n-san, what are your thoughts on singing and dancing during music videos?

May’n: I’ve had experience performing with other dancers while being in the center, but I did have face some difficulties during changes in formation. In regards to positioning, I’m used to a 0.5 spaced increments. WUG on the other hand uses formations with .25 spaced increments, which I’m not used to at all (笑). Even though I wasn’t used to the spacing, I felt like I could match up my rhythm pretty well with the people next to me.

Editor’s note: Singers will usually be in the center of performances with their location being marked as 0. So with .5 space increments the dancers on both sides of her, the locations of each performer would be like so: 1.5 .5 ->1-> 1.5 The smaller the increment space, the more complex the formations tend to be.

Nanami: There certainly were some tricky details.

Miyu: We did have quite a few patterns.

Nanami: It certainly varies with each song, but the A and B melodies and chorus were pretty different from each other. Our dance instructor, Satomi-sensei, was very particular about our choreography/formations and wanted to look beautiful.

I see. So after all of that, did you end up having an even deeper respect for WUG?

May’n: Yes. Dancing in formations has always been a specialty of WUG’s, but I found myself a little panicked when I tried doing it too.

So you say the dancing in itself was pretty difficult, but did you have any other troubles when recording the music video?

Miyu: The dance scenes with the bread was pretty tricky.

Ah, I see that scene where you looked like you were kneading the bread. Eh? Wait, did you have to learn that on the spot?

May’n: Yes, because there were solo cuts within that segment, we practiced independently between those breaks. Everybody else was learning it quickly, so I had to ask the people next to me “Please show me how to do it! Just one more time!” (笑). I messed up a lot during the filming, which is why I’m glad we were just recording a music video.

Wow, it’s a video made up of so many trying moments. Were there any other highlights?

Nanami: I don’t know if you can notice it, but there’s this scene where a boy walks through the door and when everybody notices the boy they stopped what they were doing. For my part I kind of had to stumble a bit while holding the plates. It was pretty hard to act like I was stumbling so evertime in my head I would think “This doesn’t seem right.” (笑)

Miyu: (笑) In the scene where we were making sandwiches, everybody had to look as if they were fighting the camera. So everybody was handed a kitchen utensil, so I wondered what I would get. But they told me “Takagi-san, you’re going to do a chopping motion with your hands.” I was like “EEEHHHHHHH?!” I was expecting to be handed a really big kitchen utensil or something!

May’n: I see! So that’s why you were being so ecstatic with those rolling pins!

Oh, so a cutting motion was what you were trying to go for.

Miyu: Yes, that’s right (笑)

May’n: I thought those hands looked very pretty (笑).  My highlight for the music video is their solo cuts. In those parts it looked like they were saying “Excuse me, can I have your attention?”. Even though they didn’t say it out loud, everybody would pay attention anyways (笑). As a WUGner I felt really satisfied with those scenes.

I agree, everybody really did look adorable.

May’n: When a different girl was up recording their cut, everybody was like “Kyaa! So cute~! So cool~!”

The cool part must’ve been referring to Yoshioka Mayu-san right?

May’n: That’s right  (笑).

Nanami: All the members got to see Mayushii’s parts (笑).

Miyu: Kaya was the most noisy then, saying “Whoa whoa whoa! Those hands! Look at them hands go!”

There are quite a few WUG fans in WUG aren’t their? (lol)

Miyu　Everybody was having a lot fun with each other (笑).

So this time around, the first limited edition set comes with a bluray that comes with the music video in different angles. Are there any promising scenes to look for?

Miyu: Are alternate angles something people would enjoy?

Advertisement Team: At the top of the screen for the bluray there’s an option to watch the normal version of the music video. There’s also another version where people can watch and enjoy the dance version of the song.

Man, that’s something I really want. The formations look so visually appealing and the dance itself is something I really want to take a look at.

Miyu: This is the first time WUG has shot a full version dance video, so I hope you watch it!

Nanami: We did our best swinging around from the dancing, so I hope you enjoy it!

Miyu: May’n-chan was also pretty cool when dancing too! We did a formation together after all!

May’n: I really tried my hardest (笑)! Having 8 people dancing and singing in a music video isn’t something you see very often, so I’m very happy that we got the opportunity to do this.

So then there’s also another song in the single as well, called “King’s Cadenza” 王様のカデンツァ　What kind of song is it?

Miyu: In comparison to “One In A Billion”, “King’s Cadenza” is a sort of relaxing song that gives off a sweet feeling that’s kind of fluffy. In the beginning you can hear us say “PaPaPa-n” which is a sort of fanfare made up of our own voices.

Nanami: The song also has a kind of stylish vibe to it.

May’n: It certainly does show off an adult’s cute charms.

Is it your first time singing this particular style of song?

May’n: Hmm, I don’t think it’s something I’ve really done before. What about WUG?

Miyu: We haven’t done it either.

May’n: Lyrically, the theme is about a “naked king”. But the term “naked king” isn’t used in a bad context. The things you see before you aren’t the only things you can believe in right? You yourself are the only one that can experience what life has to offer and you choose what beliefs to hold, is what those lyrics are. I think that sort of feeling is also in “One In a Billion”.

I see, that’s pretty deep.

Miyu: It really is deep. It’s my favorite song.

What are some highlights in the song?

May’n: The first part of the song where everyone was doing that fanfare was really cute.  I felt like everybody could sing full of smiles and energy with weightless shoulders.

WUG Manager: The fanfare part is especially pretty interesting. We wanted to make it pretty distinctive so there would be directions like “Say it more childlike”, but then there’d be “Sing it a little more mature” but then they’d also say “Sing it a little more stupid-like”. (笑)

(笑) . I wonder which person was singing in that kind of voice.

Miyu: Originally the fanfare part wasn’t supposed to be there, but someone made a request to do it while we were recording.

I see, so that’s what happened.

Miyu: That’s why some of the members had a hard time understanding the directions. I hope people can pay close attention to that part.

May’n: “One In a Billion” is a really great song to do live, whereas King’s Cadenza has a cute charm to it. When singing those two songs I thought “Wow! So I really can sing a wider variety!” I felt really thrilled to increase my repertoire. I really feel that there wasn’t a single wasted moment, and am very glad to have worked on this single.

I’d certainly like to see more of Wake Up, May’n. Are there any other things that you would like to do together as WUM?

Nanami: I really want May’n to make a debut appearance in the anime world!

May’n: Could I be in the new WUG anime coming out?  (笑)

Miyu: Aaah! I’d definitely want to see that happen!

New TV anime, Wake Up, Girls! Shin Shou premiering October 22, 2017.

Nanami: If May’n became a 2D character, then she could play herself and the characters would end up meeting in the anime too.  (笑)

That way you could consult to a pretty experienced person. (笑)

Miyu: After that I want to do a live as Wake Up, May’n! I wonder if we’ll do it at the release event? Hmmm…

Speaking of which, you have a release event taking place on August 9th. Tell us how excited you are for that.

May’n: All 8 of us will be there together, which is a somewhat rare opportunity. Even though it’s a weekday, I hope a lot of people come.

Miyu: It’s the first time all of us will be performing together as Wake Up, May’n. I hope you look forward to it.

Nanami: When on tour we have 7 members, but with May’n-chan added into the group our songs have a different sensation. I hope that anybody that watched us on tour can see the difference.

Thank you very much! Now this question might seem different from the others, but since One In a Billion is the opening of Restaurant to Another World, please tell us what your favorite foods are!

May’n: It’s not related to “Restaurant to Another World” in any way, but I really like taiyaki! To me, taiyaki in a way is something that’s full of good will! I’d like taiyaki and other Japanese sweets to be enjoyed by people all over the world.

Miyu: Mine would be… Meat. Is what I would like to say, but whenever I go out to eat yakiniku I’d usually order a lot of Chanja! (笑)

May’n: Wait, I order lots of that too! I love it!

Miyu: Eh, you eat it too?? I reaaaally love it too! Chanja and Yuke!

May’n: Yup, I also order lots of Yuke too!

You two are pretty like-minded it seems (笑).

Nanami: For my favorite food, I really like Japanese style omelette rice.

May’n: Ah! Me too!

Nanami: I really like it Japanese styled, with lots of mushrooms in it too.

May’n: Hey that’s my favorite style too! You’re really asking for it now, Nanami!

Nanami: Eeh!!  My stomach feels kinda weird! (笑) Other than how I prepare it, I really liked how my Grandmother would make it, adding eggplants on top. It’s a really cherished memory of mine.

So there’s a precious memory like that involved with cooking. May’n-san, can you cook?

May’n: My meals tend to be messy, but I am pretty good at making Omurice and Oyakodon. People say that egg dishes are pretty difficult to make, but I think I do a pretty good job.

Wow that’s pretty impressive. Nanami-san, you cook for yourself too, correct?

Nanami: That’s right. The other WUG members aren’t really good at cooking, so that gives me the privilege of being that only character in a group that can cook (笑).

Haha, Miyu-san, how’s your cooking?

Miyu: Well I really just cook Java Curry (笑).

Nanami: Just Java Curry?!?! (笑)

Miyu: Using curry ingredients I can also make meat and potatoes too! I try not use the kitchen knife as much as possible so I tend to buy refrigerated vegetable mixes. With that I can make curry pretty quick.

I see (笑). Also, since we usually cover games with our media outlet, what type of games have you been playing lately?

May’n: For me, I’ve been playing “Mario Kart 8″ on the Nintendo Switch so much that I’ve been skipping out on sleep! It’s just so much fun! It’s crazy!  It has to be my favorite game of all time right now.

Nanami: Mario Kart huh~?

Miyu: It sounds fun!

May’n: It really is great to live in age where people all around the world can play online and race each other at anytime. I’m not really good at playing video games though. I’m not really good with games with complex controls, but Mario Kart is different. The controls feel simple. That’s why I like it, because it’s straightforward. Also, I tend to play while using a Mii with my face on it so I’m like “May-san!! Do your best!” cheering her on while I play (笑). My Mii will also cry too when she loses. That’s why I like to play everyday just so I can see her smiling face.

Have you ever played any of the past Mario Karts?

May’n: Mario Kart has been around for a long time so I’ve played it often.

Miyu-san, what type of games do you like?

Miyu: I haven’t really played any recent games, but I have been playing the smartphone version of “Mushihime-sama” lately. The enemies and bullets are quite troublesome, but seeing them explode is quite a refreshing feeling I enjoy. It’s also pretty fun getting through a pinch with the boss battles so I just pull through it.

***TL Note: Mushihime-sama is bullet hell video game, similar to Touhou. It was also released in the US on Steam.

So you like shooters. What about you Nanami-san?

Nanami: I don’t really play video games, but I have been playing “Hachigatsu no Cinderella” and “Soul Reversal”, games with WUG members in them. I always wonder if I’ll end up rolling the members in the gacha. Usually it’s somehow easy for me to get my own characters, but it gets pretty dicey when I try rolling for the other WUG members (笑). It’s so worrisome.

I can imagine (笑). To change the topic, how do you spend your days off?

May’n: I spend it at the gym. I love to kickbox. Whenever I have free time, I try to kickbox. I’ve been doing it for about a year and a half now.

I wonder which WUG members would be susceptible to a lowkick (笑) .

Miyu: I wish Minami and Yoppi good luck  (笑).

They’re pretty small aren’t they?

Nanami: That’s right.

What kinds of thing do you when kickboxing at the gym?

May’n: I don’t do matches, but I do train with my trainer. The constant movement really helps clear my head. I go to the gym alone whenever I have something on my mind.

So you haven’t had any matches yet?

May’n: Not yet.

You haven’t wanted to try it at least once?

May’n: I would like to! (笑)

(笑) What about you Miyu-san? What do you do on your days off?

Miyu: I haven’t really done it recently, but I guess playing the drums. Back in March 2017 during a solo event, I played the drums for a song my character sang.

May’n: Wow that’s impressive!

Miyu: Although I can’t really sing and play drums at the same time (strained laugh). So that’s when I started playing the drums. It was a lot of fun. I used to practice for about 3 hours, and I’d be so focused that time would fly by so quick. By the time it ended I’d be surprised that it’d gotten so dark. After lessons ended I wanted to get back to playing again as soon as possible.

What is it about playing the drums do you find fun?

Miyu: Feeling the change in pressure when I play and moving my legs to the rhythm. The sensation of making music with my body is really interesting.

How do you spend your days off Nanami-san?

Nanami: Me, well I like to throw things away.

May’n: Ehh?!

Do you not have any attachment to material things?  (笑)

Nanami: It’s not like that, but sometimes I’ll find clothes that I bought about 2 years ago. So I go through my pile of clothing, throwing away things I don’t need and choosing the ones I want to keep. At the end of the day I feel pretty refreshed.

May’n: I’m envious~.

Are you the type that likes to collect everything?

May’n: My house kind of looks like Don Quijote (笑).

May’n: I also really like hippos! Just with hippo plushies alone, I have 700!

May’n: Also, I have a ton of figures. Some people may find my place to be pretty fun or pretty messy. Sometimes people will say “You gotta calm down!” (笑)  

Miyu: I really like Donki, so I’m probably the type that would like it (笑).

We’d love to hear more of your private lives, but we have to end things soon. Do you have any messages for the readers?

Nanami: This time around Wake Up, May’n has sung a few songs together. At first it was difficult to call ourselves Wake Up, May’n since it was hard to call May’n-chan without any honorifics, but after getting to know her I can confidently say “We are Wake Up, May’n!”. The 8 of us will be performing as one unit at a release event so I hope you can watch and have fun!

Miyu: With the May’n we were able to meet, we’ll be releasing our single on August 9th. I’m really looking forward to meeting the people that’ll be at the release event! I hope to hear things like “WUM-chan ganbatte!” I hope to hear a lot people call us WUM-chan.

May’n: I’ve never really done this kind of collaboration before, so when they first announced a collab team up with WUG, it felt out of this world. Everybody felt like it was some rare out of this world unit. However, I felt a sense of security like I’ve been doing this for a long time. It’s not something that may seem absolute in the future, but I definitely want to do this again. I want people to believe that it’s not just a festive song just because it’s a collaboration between two performers, but I want them to really enjoy it as one unit.

Shoukoku no Altair Liveblog (Chapter 8)

As for this chapter’s art, just when you thought this series couldn’t get anymore detailed, it goes and does just that! I am consistently floored by the patterns Kato puts in these designs. The circles along the hem of Mahmut’s red outer clothes make for a simple design, but are made a little more complex by including three circles inscribed in each other. And that is just scraping the surface. I also love the poses haha. Anyway, let’s move on.

Chapter 8: The Thief in the Slum

I really liked the swirls of smoke in this panel, reminds me of the otherworldly atmosphere of series like xxxholic. And the hexagon pattern on the windows is a nice touch. But look at Mahmut go! He’s supposed to be on vacation, but he couldn’t hold back from jumping right into this thing last chapter.

Of course Mahmut is sitting far away from everyone else. I have no clue how this seating area is arranged though?? Looks like a couch...but it’s not...there is a rise in the floor that goes across the room, and it looks like the rugs were arranged to make a seating area out of it.

lol throwing shade at Mahmut there. Shara finally gets her smug moment instead of constantly being D:< or –.– 

Koko seems to have a nervous eating habit (she makes some adorable expressions too).

When I said I was going to catalogue his expressions, I meant it. Not sure what this one is, though...in the panel before he had a normal serious/concentrating expression, and this time it’s a little drawn, perhaps a small grimace of “I can’t possibly find this guy fascinating” when his goal is murder.

Very nice detailing on the comb here, instead of defaulting to a plain design. It certainly is...different from anything I’ve seen before.

Shara is quite the go-getter. Now you can see why she went ahead and accompanied Mahmut to go save Ibrahim. She certainly is quite tough in her own right.

Um, excuse me. Is. Is every person pictured here unique?? I mean, there are no repeats of patterns, except perhaps the two women in the middle to the right, they do have different expressions though. Notice that everyone is wearing something different, even though they are clearly from the same town. Some have scarves, others have patterns on their shirts/jackets. They also seem pretty excited for the show.

And of course there are those two ominous guys walking towards the front...

Good composition of this panel, as far as I can tell. The screentone for the sky gives it a nice depth.

And lol Mahmut you’re losing ground, maybe because your legs are so short. Mahmut is apparently only 5′4″ (forgot what that is in cm sorry).

Anyway, Iskander is on it. (though golden eagles don’t really fly around at night lol most birds are ‘blind as a bat’ at night)

Knew it wouldn’t be that easy. The uh black sludge water (?) looks very ominous.

Those are glorious wings. And you can see that nice teardrop shape on his forehead.

Mahmut really is all business, unless you drag him into having a good time (something I relate to). Plus, this is coming on the heels of his demotion, subconsciously he’s focusing on doing his best to grow to be worthy of his former title. He doesn’t actually know how to go about that, probably, but this is a good start. A pasha’s duty is to protect the nation, after all.

UH, way to look like the emissaries of darkness guys. They even made it a point of walking in a triangle formation! Who does that!

I was wondering why they had some pots and plates on the rooftop. Make for great weapons.

lol poor thing. Even her arms are noodly. Love how everyone else is all into it and she’s the only one with a semi-normal reaction: terrified.

This guy’s voice ought to be cool in the anime, I’d imagine.

Ok, I noticed that he hung the lamp on the wall and there’s a little hook there so it doesn’t look like it just disappeared or is floating.

Also, thanks to the anime I now can confirm this thing is a whistle! Sorta. It doesn’t require the user to blow into it, but it is meant to call Iskander to him.

Also, smug faced Mahmut is back. Slightly subdued though. Maybe wry?

This is also kinda interesting. He doesn’t strike me as the Robin Hood type. It’s a good thing he has that menacing face though, it makes it easier to tell that he’s being sarcastic, and I can even imagine how he’s speaking in my head.

Once again, very interesting life philosophy here. Doesn’t seem like he’s being sarcastic about this part...? I wonder if he had that ‘pride’ Mahmut is saying he must have thrown away by now. Did he actually have a sense of honor, or was it just an image that fit well with his thieving, and now that he’s lost face, he just gave it up? I’d bet on that last one, haha.

Dude, where do you keep getting all these eagles?? Once again, this is probably terrifying, especially at night when the shadows are long and dark, and you can’t see the birds clearly and they just all SWOOP IN AT YOUR FACE.

I always love the swirls and lines on Mahmut’s clothing, btw. The billowy shape of this type of clothing is different from what you normally see in manga.

WHAT THE HELL. I’m telling you, Mahmut is a bird whisperer. How much meat did you need to bribe these birds with to get them to all perch in this room to interrogate this guy.

The contrast of light and dark spots is very nice here, especially in a higher res image.

Once again, this guy’s life philosophy is interesting. Guess this is how it ties into the realization Mahmut came to in the last chapter.

That there are ways of life out there, in the country he was supposed to be protecting, that he knew nothing of. Because he never stopped to think how other people lived.

I think the word introspection suits Mahmut well. He seems to do a lot of it, in the quiet panels in which you get a glimpse of his eye or part of his face as he is thinking.

First of all: I forgot how bloody laws used to be in this part of the world’s history it’s been a while since I took history as a subject.

Second: The thief telling Mahmut to kill him there was probably to avoid a torturous death. The thief is honestly hard to pinpoint. I can’t tell if he’s being sincere about certain parts of the last few panels, or if they were part of an act, and if so for what purpose.

Then, this line of Mahmut’s is very interesting: “I, too, obey the rules of the world I live in.”

In a subtle way, this is the answer to the thief’s earlier statement explaining why he would go as far as kill over the uncovered treasure: “To us, our treasure is worth more than our lives. I don’t expect you people to get it.”

Typically, people in authority take the high road, and whether or not it is true, take themselves to be the moral good. They don’t understand the people who live at the bottom of society, and have no desire to.

That is why Mahmut’s statement is so intriguing. He is telling this man that he acknowledges his ‘world’ by comparing his own world and that of the thieves, something a person in authority wouldn’t normally do. He’s telling him that he does “get it”. But because he understands that the rules are different for different ways of life, he can’t accept the man’s request/command to kill him. Then Mahmut would be breaking the rules of his own ‘world’ (and, of course, his morals).

AND THEN, the narrative throws the bloody execution at you in technical terms, very little to misunderstand about the brutality of laws in the past.

It also throws this little gem at you:

Koko, who has generally acted like a normal person today would to these situations (like being terrified when armed men are attacking you!)...

...is actually saying “So mean” because the thief violated her expectations of who Fakir Hirsiz is in her imagination. Sliiight values dissonance there, yeah? On our part, of course. We don’t think the cutting off of limbs is an appropriate punishment for stealing (i hope), but the people in this world aren’t bothered.

OH, so it’s highly implied that the treasure’s location in the play was no coincidence. As they showed in chapter 7, the plays often took inspiration from current events, and the thieves and their treasure were just one of them.

Mahmut has a disapproving expression here, as she says. He figured it out at some point. Because the theatre troupe directly and probably deliberately benefitted from the misfortune of others, and caused the whole thing, including the murders by proxy.

But, to the very end, she claims it was all a “wonderful, fictional world”.

Very sneaky. And, perhaps, like with the punishments for theft and murder (well, the murder/execution thing is up for debate, but cutting off limbs for stealing I HOPE not), it is meant to leave you with a sort of hanging feeling. Everything is resolved as well as it could be, but...? That kind of feeling lol. Can’t explain it well.

ANYWAY, Mahmut is off! Feeding Iskander again :3

Ah, yes, some much needed light-heartedness.

Thanks for sending these! Since Surana asked for all of them for FMA, I figured I’d just screenshot your asks and @ you all and include any of my fandoms. FMA is my major fandom so that’s what it’s pretty much going to cover anyway. And sorry it took so long to answer. I reblogged that meme right when I had to leave to a family bbq.

1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?* - I think my fellow FMA fans will know this one already, but uh, R*yed, Elricest... Also HavocxRiza. But I mean, I guess I understand why people might ship that one, I just don’t like it at all. Kind of makes me uncomfortable for some reason. And AlucardxSeras for sure. He’s clearly a father figure and, ya know, Seras had a love interest who actually became a part of her in a strangely romantic kind of way.

2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?* - I guess HavocxRiza would fall under this, but it’s not exactly a popular otp so I’m not sure it counts. Roy and Ed, obviously. Uh... LinaxGourry. It’s the canon pairing and while I almost always ship the canon pairings, I only sort of kind of ship them.

3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion? - Ummmm, once? I think? Oh no no, a few times actually. When I got back into the FMA fandom, I went on an FMA blog following spree and I ended up following a couple of blogs that didn’t outright ship R*yed, but they thought it was okay if people shipped it and they seemed to lowkey ship it so I got right the hell out of there. I think those were the only times? I can’t remember now. The only other time I unfollowed someone was when they made a rude comment on a post of mine even though I wasn’t saying anything mean or anything. The comment seemed out of nowhere and I was upset about it so I unfollowed, which was sad since I kind of thought the person was nice up until that point. Oh and I have unfollowed people for posting copious amounts of uncredited fanart.

4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?* - Obviously R*yed and Elr*cest. RizaxHavoc. SerasxAlucard in Hellsing. SlitxNux in Mad Max: Fury Road. NoctisxPrompto in FFXV. And yes they are all pretty popular OTPs in the fandoms, with the exception of RizaxHavoc which I don’t see too much of.

5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?* - Yeah. I was pretty meh about SlitxNux and could have ignored it, until that was the only pairing I was seeing on my dash. They had no chemistry whatsoever and I hated having to see that pairing on my dashall  the time. I eventually figured out how to download Tumblr Savior and blocked it, but until then I had to put up with it if I wanted to remain in the fandom. It was like the only ship anyone shipped so there wouldn’t have been any more MMFR blogs to follow. lol

6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?* - Uh, I don’t think so. Once I hate a pairing, I don’t ever really start to like it. There’s a reason I hate something.

7. Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?* - When I first got back into the FMA/Royai fandom last year, I liked young Royai. But, I reread the manga again since then and also watched Brotherhood again and there definitely was nothing going on between Roy and Riza when they were younger and the more I think about it, the more I dislike young Royai. The way they interact at her father’s funeral is too formal and impersonal. Also, it seems that Riza is at least two to three years younger than Roy and she would be too young for there to be something romantic between them. If he was 15 she’d be 12 and we then run into the same issue I have with R*yed, but on a much smaller scale.

8. Have you received anon hate? What about?*- I don’t think so? I misread an anon message once and thought the person was sending hate, but then after responding, I read the message again and realized I read it wrong and I still feel really bad about my snippy response. =(

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why? - Haha, oh boy, here we go. Tracer from Overwatch. From the get go her personality annoyed the hell out of me. Chibiusa from Sailor Moon. Again, from the get go her personality annoyed me. She was such a brat. Thrall from World of Warcraft. Fucking Green Jesus. Someone kill him already. Malfurion from World of Warcraft. Annoying asshole. He needs to die too. And he looks absolutely fucking ridiculous to boot. There’s no one in FMA I especially hate.

10. Most disliked arc? Why? - Uhhh, in FMA... Look I loved the Briggs characters. Olivier is one of my favorite characters ever. And Buccaneer is rad af and I love him. But it’s my least favorite arc because my two absolute favorite characters, Roy and Riza, are not really in it. As for other fandoms, I could write a book about why the Warlords of Draenor expansion sucked so royally on World of Warcraft.

11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why? - Envy. People rightfully hate him, but I’m usually drawn to creepy/evil/sadistic characters and yes I did cry the first time I read/watched him die. I also love Pride for the same reason. Evil/scary characters are my jam.

12. Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why? - I loved Mists of Pandaria (WoW expansion), okay? It was a great expansion with great raiding (except SOO, I admit) and I like the Pandaren and the lore was great and haters can stfu. It was better than Cata and Draenor or even those combined. (Oh god what a horror it would be combining those two terrible expansions. I want to die just thinking about it.) I can’t think of any other series I like that had arcs though... (besides FMA, but I cant’ say I particularly hate any of FMA’s arcs.) It’s been years since I’ve kept up with any long series and I’m no longer really a fan of any of the ones I used to like a lot (Fushigi Yuugi for example.)

13. Unpopular opinion about XXX character? - Didn’t get any specific character for this so do you just want me to rant about stuff I dislike about characters? Um... A lot of people hate the fact that Roy used the philosopher’s stone to restore his eyesight and think that it’s a horrible thing for him to do. I disagree. What else were they going to do with it? It was already created. They would have just thrown all those lives away for nothing? At least by restoring Roy’s eyesight he went on to restore Ishval and help the Ishvalans that were still alive. He did good things by using that stone and it didn’t go to waste by being thrown away or used for something less.

14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?- The Hellsing fandom posts way too much reposted art and I hate it. I only follow two Hellsing blogs because of this. I want to be a part of the fandom here because it’s been, like, eight years, but I just refuse to be a part of a community that readily posts and reblogs uncredited fanart. Same goes for the FMA fandom as of late. Get your shit together, guys. Also half of the FMA fandom ships a gross ship so that’s cringey. The fandom can also get pretty “clique-y.” People stick to certain kinds of people and don’t include others, and I mean, I can get this way too sometimes unintentionally, but it’s bad when you’re actively trying to communicate and they ignore you because you’re not popular enough or whatever the hell the reason is. Apparently if you’re not making fantastic art or writing amazing sagas, you don’t get to be a part of their space.

15. Unpopular opinion about the manga/show? - So... Please don’t hate me for this, but, um, when I first got into FMA back in, like, 2002-2004, I liked Ed and Al a lot. But the anime veered off in a direction I didn’t like so I got out of the series, but when I returned to the fandom last year, the sole reason was because of Roy and Riza. Don’t get me wrong, Ed and Al are great, but now that I’m older, I don’t...like them as much. (I think it’s maybe because I’m older so I don’t identify with Ed and Al anymore?) But, I’d much rather watch a show with Roy and Riza as the main characters and Ed and Al having a back seat. *dodges tomatoes* I’m so sorry! I even skipped around a bit in the manga and Brotherhood just to get to the Roy and Riza parts. Their story and characters interest me far more.

As for Hellsing, the war with Millennium seemed a little anticlimactic. I think Hirano could have done better, but he rushed it? Like, that whole ending scene of that one manga chapter where Alucard jumps down from a building and faces off with Anderson and Captain and we got that, like, tri-split panel? That was way cool, but it went nowhere. I was expecting some epic showdown, but they all just went off and did their own thing and Anderson and Alucard fought only each other later on. And Seras was the one that fought Captain. And then that whole thing with Islands in that undertaker looking getup talking about how they were going to nuke London to end the war. That never went anywhere. I was just a little disappointed in the war as a whole, though the parts we did get were great.

16. If you could change anything in the show, what would you change? - For FMA, it was pretty heavily implied that Roy and Riza had feeling for each other, but I would have liked that more confirmed. Like, a brush of their hands at the end of the final fight or something. Something small, but notable? Just ANYTHING. lol We got confirmation for AlucardxIntegra in the last chapter of fucking Hellsing and that was certainly not a romance series either.

17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen… - Again, I didn’t get any specifics for this so I’m not going to answer this one. If you want to send me something specific, shoot.

18. Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased? - LOL No, of course not. Especially if said popular ship is not canon or heavily implied to be canon. If it’s just a popular ship people want to be canon, no one is in any way in denial about not shipping it. Or maybe someone just doesn’t like the ship or has some kind of issues with it. People are allowed to hate stuff others like.

19. What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom? - For FMA, the half of the fandom that ships gross ships. The people that seem to ignore anyone that doesn’t have perfect fanart or fanfiction that meets their standards. The people that decide they won’t talk to you just because you said you didn’t like a certain thing. (I know this is vague, but I don’t really want to start shit.)

20. What is the purest ship in the fandom? - Edwin and Royai.

21. What are your thoughts on crack ships? - Not a fan. Crack anything is usually a turn off for me. I’m picky enough about the ships I read fanfics for, crack ruins it.

22. Popular character you hate? - Slit in the MMFR fandom. I hate that character so fucking much. And I actually think my hate for him is thanks to the fandom. Tracer from Overwatch. Thrall... Is he popular? I feel like I see more hate for him than I do positive things for him. Chibiusa from Sailor Moon. Seras from Hellsing. Look, I don’t hate hate her. 26. Most shippable character? - I’m not really a multishipper. But I guess Roy is certainly shippable. Alucard from Hellsing too.

Yes I do! I have 6 stuffed animals that I sleep with lol. I have a giraffe named Jams, a white bear with pink ears and paws named Suga Bear, a blue and green small like raccoon like animal named Hope, one that looks just like Hope but is like pink and orange and warm colors named Jinnie, an elephant named Lex, and one that doubles as a husky and polar bear named Joon. AMA Transcript: Awoken

This past week, @professor-maka​ and @sahdah​ stopped in to chat about their work on their 2016 Resbang, Awoken! Here’s some of what went down:

Q: How did your fic change/evolve over time? Any deleted scenes/headcanons you couldn't fit into the fic?

ProMa: Sort of? In that I wasn't exactly sure how far I wanted to take the plot at first, and at one point considered a Medusa appearance but decided I liked flipping the villain expectation too much to fuss with it.

Q: How the frick did you write the songs and stuff?? It was so good and hilarious.

ProMa: Ahhhh I can't music which is why the songs are either poems (only the first, and it's intentionally bad) or I took actual songs and just--modified lyrics in the same meter.

Q: You wrote your own lyrics tho?

ProMa: I did. I carefully plotted to the meter of the original. Or in the case of Ox's first song, just kept a really trite meter.

Q: Gotta ask the obvious question: What made you want to do an Enchanted AU!!

ProMa: It's a really fun movie, and I just felt I could do something fun with it. Though I'll admit there's a heavy Enchanted Forest Chronicles in there, too.

Q: What was the hardest scene to write?

ProMa: Hardest to write was hmmmm... Maka waking up the second time. I got stuck in that section forever.

Q: And which scene did you write first?? Loved the song summons btw. It made me laugh so hard.

ProMa: I wrote it pretty much in order except in a few places where I wrote the song before the scene, so the taxi scene came first. The song summons was so fun to write. I wanted to take that scene from Enchanted and completely flip it on its head.

Q: Proma, I love the running gag with the disembodied music, was that from the AU's or your own detail?

ProMa: Disembodied music was just drawing from the brand of humor in Enchanted Forest Chronicles, Patrick Dempsey's reactions in Enchanted, and the reality of musicals. So basically my take on it, lol.

Q: How early in the process did you figure out that Ox was gonna be the prince? Were you always sure it would be him or did you have to narrow it down?

ProMa: Ox was my prince pretty much from the get go. He just fit what I wanted to do. I was going for the more noble version of Hans from Frozen.

Q: Was there anything weird that you didn't expect to make it into the final cut?

ProMa: The potty humor I definitely wasn't sure I would keep. But I am 14 at heart and kept it.

Q: Alternately, anything you wanted to keep but had to cut?

ProMa: I kind of wanted a Black Star appearance but time and plot arc did not allow. Also Wes was not in the original plan but he happened anyway.

Q: Tell us about the art collab! How did it work for you?

ProMa: They were really enthusiastic and supportive and started throwing ideas out from the get go! 

sahdah: Read voraciously, threw my ideas at Proma. 

ProMa: The poster image sahdah did was so great she worked on it forever! sahdah: Proma was super chill and awesome about things, I'd ask for direction and she gave like dress ideas. It was so much fun! 

ProMa: And rogha's painting was lovely.

Q: What was the hardest thing about that poster image?

sahdah: Ahhh the coloring. I did pen drawing and scanned but I'd just gotten a tablet for digital so working the layers was interesting. I had lots of support from Proma and Aer!

Q: How many drafts did you do before you decided on a final image for the art?

sahdah: Um, it started off with just Maka, and then Ox got added. And then I think Kim was next - this is all on the same page - and I knew Soul in a beanie had to be there. So it just grew. 

ProMa: It grew in the most glorious way possible. Sahdah kept sending me updates and I just [said] YES YES GOOD YES.

Q: I am jealous of how well-behaved this fic was for not having any deleted scenes.

ProMa: AHAHA I'm a weird writer. I delete sometimes, but not often.

Q: SEQUEL?

ProMa: Noooooooo no no no no no. Epilogue is my limit.

Q: What was your favorite scene to write?

ProMa: Either the vermin scene or Maka laying the smackdown on Ox. Both were fun. Maka as badass is always my jam.

Q: Is this a genre you'd want to do again?

ProMa: It was fun, I'd definitely do it again!

Q: Please tell me what inspired the "friendly neighbourhood broctologist" line because I literally laughed at it for 30 straight seconds.

ProMa: B* works in mysterious ways. He always gets my best lines. What inspired it? B* being B*.

[discussion of the rats/roaches scene]

ProMa: That scene is one of the more direct lifts from the film. It's really nasty. Vermin squick me so hard, but vermin summoning is one of the most hilarious things in the film. I HAD to. 

sahdah: Giriko running in fear when he next sees them, lol. 

ProMa: Poor Giriko, he only wanted some loot.

[discussion of how numerous people have not seen Enchanted]

ProMa: It's cute and funny and I did something completely different with the premise because Maka is no Gisselle.

Q: Real question time: Why George Michael?

ProMa: Omg. It was my server name because it was a play on the kiss thing and then I just--had to. Because Wham is awesome and cheesy and it fit.

Q: I'm kinda mad with how it was not awkward or cheesy. How do you put Wham in a story and make it charming?

sahdah: Promagic. 

ProMa: I have no idea. I love Wham, they were my first album. Call it a labor of pure love.

Q: Did you listen/watch anything (besides the obvious) for inspiration?

ProMa: I had a playlist I've been meaning to post: http://8tracks.com/professor-maka/awoken. I'll have to make it not unlisted later lol.

Q: Is it possible for Mr. Proma to do a cover the fic songs?

ProMa: It'd be hilarious but he'd side eye me hard. Very not his genre. Well, maybe the Foo Fighters. :') I would laugh so hard to hear them performed though. Maybe someday someone will perform one and make my life. 

sahdah: Soul singing Pearl Jam in the shower <3 

ProMa: Mr.Proma sent me that song when we were dating, it was a nod to self. 

sahdah: Awwwh, such a good husbando! 

ProMa: Such good husbando. Well, boyfriendu then.

Q: If you had to do it over, would there be anything you'd change?

ProMa: Hmmmmm man I just reread it. I wish I'd edited another round, because I missed some dumb reppy shit and just dumb shit. Also, the ending could be drawn out a bit. So I would do that if I had it to do again. But I was in serious time crunch mode.

Q: I am so impressed with how much fic you can crank out, Proma.

sahdah: Proma cranked out the last bit of the fic in... what was it, like 2 days? 

ProMa: Yeah, the last third was very fast. 

sahdah: I'm like WAIT!!! SO MUCH I NEED TO ART. 

ProMa: Sahdah did her second two pieces in like two days so MASS APPLAUSE. 

sahdah: /head scratch like there was so much good content! 

ProMa: And those pieces are great too.

Q: How does one do that, pull out quality in such a short time?

sahdah: Copious amounts of caffeine and manic cackling with Resbang partners. <3 

ProMa: I write fast under pressure. It's a skill I picked up in school that weirdly translates into creative things. Thank you, undergrad all nighters.

Q: Proma, [in the] epilogue, how does Ox fare with Kim?

ProMa: Omg Ox does not fare with Kim. She is all about dat Jackie. But I mean, he has his kingdom. Even if Spirit gives him constant shit for the rest of his days.

Q: How does Spirit react to maka moving?

ProMa: Spirit is so dejected. I haven't worked it out, but he would definitely seek Maka out. Might even just hand the kingdom to Ox eventually, and go [to the] whole other world. He will visit, that's not even arguable. That omake I will heavily consider. 

Q: Proma, one thing that I was interested to see and that I think I'm glad about is that you didn't do the whole Aesop where Maka has to go back and learn how to break the curse, find happiness in her own world. While I can appreciate that message and I think it has its place, I also think that if people could really do that... there are probably people who would find a place and feel better somewhere other than their "home world." I mean, you could translate the "world" metaphor to people choosing to leave a toxic family of origin, which would be a good thing.

ProMa: Oh yeah, I was never going to go there. This was about Maka shaping her own life on her terms. I was not going for archetypes at alllll. Blair was always my choice for the fairy godmother role. It's so canon anyway. You can do some good things with that trope, it just wasn't the goal. Maka staying in her new life definitely came from the source -- even if a lot of the source is altered beyond recognition. 

sahdah: I also love Maka working to improve herself on her terms. Like the details with the soufflé. 

ProMa: I definitely borrowed some flavor from Wrede.

ProMa: That's one of the biggest actual pulls from the movie though -- I flipped it completely. Giselle summons vermin to clean the messy house. Yeah, that is not Maka. Maka just wants her crap back and she's not into the singing thing. 

sahdah: Giriko! The real vermin, lol.

Q: Maka asking animals via Disney princess song to wreck Giriko's shit was one of my favorite things. 

ProMa: It's Maka, she's not gonna sing to clean Soul's house, he can get off his own ass! 

sahdah: Let's be real, he probably has a cleaning service, because of Mother. 

ProMa: His house is spotless, there are maids. (Why a high powered lawyer in Enchanted couldn't hire a maid is beyond me.) 

sahdah: Mc-Procrastinator, not Dreamy. 

ProMa: Mc-raises kid in nasty house. I actually have a soft spot for pet rats, we had them in 3rd grade but an actual in my house rat would make me into a quivering pile of NOPE.

Q: Is it Mc-over? [ implied :( ]
