Shifting Stars - Weather & Seasons
Global weather conditions can affect your stats and movement. Weather changes have a chance to occur about every 20-30 minutes. The current weather is displayed at the top of the screen.
In addition to weather, there is a seasons system. Each season lasts 21 real-life days, or about 100 in-game days (which are 5 hours long). Seasons affect weather, herbs and prey spawn rates. Some herbs can only be found during specific times of the year.
During Leaf-Bare, prey numbers decrease dramatically. You will be able to preserve prey during this time, lowering its quality (so it fills less hunger), but preventing it from rotting.
[More info under cut]
When it's raining, hygiene decreases faster and there's an increased chance of catching Whitecough or Greencough. Standing under cover will negate the negative effects of rain.
Rain also washes away scent trails over time, so storms can be advantageous if you're trying to cross Clan borders without getting caught.
It can start snowing in late Leaf-Fall all the way until early Newleaf. In the warm and hot temperatures, snow starts melting. After Newleaf day 7, all snow is automatically removed.
Snow can fall through leaves and covers any one block tall plants. Using your claws, you can dig up snow one layer at a time, and have a chance of getting a snowball which can be used for making potions (with a high enough Medicine ability) or just to throw at people.
During blizzards, snow will fall about twice as fast. Too much time spent outside during a blizzard will give you the Freezing condition, which may kill you if you're not careful. But you can warm up near light sources or by being surrounded by other cats.
youtube
When the temperature is Cold or Freezing, energy decreases faster, while in Warm and Hot temperatures, thirst decreases faster. Average temperature has no effect.
Burning is a temperature which only occurs during droughts, a weather event which has a small chance of happening in Greenleaf. During droughts, thirst decreases extremely fast, and staying outside too long can give you the Heat Exhaustion condition. You can cool down by staying inside dens or in water, or by using Soaked Moss.
Wind can push living entities and items around. In extreme winds, it can become incredibly difficult to move. The direction of wind only affects where entities are pushed, it otherwise has no effect. (For clarification, the direction displayed in the HUD refers to which way the wind pushes you.)
In Strong or Extreme wind, players and mobs get pushed. Standing behind blocks, being underground, inside buildings, or under large trees can prevent the wind from hitting you, so you won't get be affected (this effect only applies to Players to prevent lag).
Item weight is taken into account such that heavier items (or stacks of items) will move slower than lighter items.

Hiii, this would be my first time applying to something like this and I have absolutely no clue how to format the portfolio… Do you want a certain file type? Only three examples or are more also okay? — Also should the drawings in the portfolio all be Ace Attorney related or are others okay if they showcase my skills better?Should I add extra information in the portfolio?
Thank you!
Hi there! In prepping for contributor applications to open tomorrow, we've adjusted our portfolio expectations, so here's what we've written in the Info Doc!
For writers: We’ll ask writers for three pieces of your best work, with at least one being a complete piece of no more than 3k words, as well as a portfolio with five or more (this can include your samples)! The other pieces may be excerpts. If you’d like to do less traditional forms of fic writing (poem, epistolary, etc) please have at least one sample of this.
For page and cover artists: We’ll ask artists for three pieces as your best samples of your work, as well as a portfolio with ten or more (this can include your samples)! All pieces must be finished, with at least one having a background. For those applying to be a comic artist, you must have at least one comic sample!
For merch artists: You will be asked which type of merch you would like to apply for in the application. You may apply for multiple. We’ll ask artists for three pieces as your best samples of your work, as well as a portfolio with ten or more (this can include your samples)! All pieces must be finished, with at least one in the style of your intended merch item(s)— previous merch designs are preferable, but not required! If you are applying for page and merch art, please submit both kinds of portfolios. If you are applying for multiple kinds of merch, you need only submit your three samples and portfolio, just make sure the right style for each is included.
Ace Attorney samples are encouraged but not required. These portfolios must be fully accessible to the mod team so that we can accurately assess your application. You may submit these using any file-sharing method, such as a website or Google Drive. For those using Google Docs or Google Drive, make sure your share settings are set to “Anyone with the link can access”!
#q&a#added to the info doc#if it isn't mentioned here it is Not Important.#for example submit whatever file type you want! as long as we can see it it's all good

Have you considered going to Pillowfort?
Long answer down below:
I have been to the Sheezys, the Buzzlys, the Mastodons, etc. These platforms all saw a surge of new activity whenever big sites did something unpopular. But they always quickly died because of mismanagement or users going back to their old haunts due to lack of activity or digital Stockholm syndrome.
From what I have personally seen, a website that was purely created as an alternative to another has little chance of taking off. It it's going to work, it needs to be developed naturally and must fill a different niche. I mean look at Zuckerberg's Threads; died as fast as it blew up. Will Pillowford be any different?
The only alternative that I found with potential was the fediverse (mastodon) because of its decentralized nature. So people could make their own rules. If Jack Dorsey's new dating app Bluesky gets integrated into this system, it might have a chance. Although decentralized communities will be faced with unique challenges of their own (egos being one of the biggest, I think).
Trying to build a new platform right now might be a waste of time anyway because AI is going to completely reshape the Internet as we know it. This new technology is going to send shockwaves across the world akin to those caused by the invention of the Internet itself over 40 years ago. I'm sure most people here are aware of the damage it is doing to artists and writers. You have also likely seen the other insidious applications. Social media is being bombarded with a flood of fake war footage/other AI-generated disinformation. If you posted a video of your own voice online, criminals can feed it into an AI to replicate it and contact your bank in an attempt to get your financial info. You can make anyone who has recorded themselves say and do whatever you want. Children are using AI to make revenge porn of their classmates as a new form of bullying. Politicians are saying things they never said in their lives. Google searches are being poisoned by people who use AI to data scrape news sites to generate nonsensical articles and clickbait. Soon video evidence will no longer be used in court because we won't be able to tell real footage from deep fakes.
50% of the Internet's traffic is now bots. In some cases, websites and forums have been reduced to nothing more than different chatbots talking to each other, with no humans in sight.
I don't think we have to count on government intervention to solve this problem. The Western world could ban all AI tomorrow and other countries that are under no obligation to follow our laws or just don't care would continue to use it to poison the Internet. Pandora's box is open, and there's no closing it now.
Yet I cannot stand an Internet where I post a drawing or comic and the only interactions I get are from bots that are so convincing that I won't be able to tell the difference between them and real people anymore. When all that remains of art platforms are waterfalls of AI sludge where my work is drowned out by a virtually infinite amount of pictures that are generated in a fraction of a second. While I had to spend +40 hours for a visually inferior result.
If that is what I can expect to look forward to, I might as well delete what remains of my Internet presence today. I don't know what to do and I don't know where to go. This is a depressing post. I wish, after the countless hours I spent looking into this problem, I would be able to offer a solution.
All I know for sure is that artists should not remain on "Art/Creative" platforms that deliberately steal their work to feed it to their own AI or sell their data to companies that will. I left Artstation and DeviantArt for those reasons and I want to do the same with Tumblr. It's one thing when social media like Xitter, Tik Tok or Instagram do it, because I expect nothing less from the filth that runs those. But creative platforms have the obligation to, if not protect, at least not sell out their users.
But good luck convincing the entire collective of Tumblr, Artstation, and DeviantArt to leave. Especially when there is no good alternative. The Internet has never been more centralized into a handful of platforms, yet also never been more lonely and scattered. I miss the sense of community we artists used to have.
The truth is that there is nowhere left to run. Because everywhere is the same. You can try using Glaze or Nightshade to protect your work. But I don't know if I trust either of them. I don't trust anything that offers solutions that are 'too good to be true'. And even if take those preemptive measures, what is to stop the tech bros from updating their scrapers to work around Glaze and steal your work anyway? I will admit I don't entirely understand how the technology works so I don't know if this is a legitimate concern. But I'm just wondering if this is going to become some kind of digital arms race between tech bros and artists? Because that is a battle where the artists lose.

What is a Big Bang?
A Big Bang is a collaborative event between writers and artists where lots of new content for a particular series, theme, or ship is dropped all at once. BANG!!
Writers complete a longer story and artists will create at least one full work of art based on the fic they choose/are assigned. The goal is to upload new, complete works that will inspire and add to the fandom! Our HxHBB will result in an influx of new works for the fandom to enjoy and be inspired by and hopefully will inspire continued collaboration between writers and artists as well as participation in other, smaller fandom events (such as the Yorknew Auction and Greed Island Server events!)
How will HxHBB24 work?
Signups will open tomorrow, January 12, at 12 AM EST! All roles will be on the same form this year, so Writers, Authors, and Betas can all begin signing up tomorrow.
Writers sign up to create a longer fic, between 5-50k words, and after they know their plot they will submit a summary of their story. Artists will then get access to a document with all of the summaries, blind with no names, so they can choose a fic to draw for!
From here, writers will have a deadline by which to finish their full stories so artists can create their accompanying piece(s).
As previously mentioned, we are returning to a fully blind event! This means writers and artists will both remain anonymous until reveal day!
Reveal day, you say?
Yes, reveal day! Or rather, days.
July 1 will be our primary reveal day for folks to post their works. Those who need extensions, along with any pinch hitters, will post on July 8!
Where does HXHBB24 take place?
This event is hosted on Discord, so be sure to have an account and an all-ages-appropriate handle (this is an all-ages event!). All important announcement will be made via Discord and there’s a fun community to lean on as well. No pressure to interact too much if that’s not your jam, but you must be in the server to hear all important information!
Additionally, be sure to have your DMs open so Shal can send you the server invite link once your application has been accepted.
As far as posting goes, please share your works on any hosting site you prefer—AO3, ff.net, Twitter, etc.—and share a link here on Tumblr. We will be reblogging every work to this account, so please make sure we can find it using the tag #hxhbb24.
Wowza! So much information, I’m excited!
Fantastic, so are we! Please send any questions you may have to this account via ask, and get ready for a fun few months!
Please also refer to our last post for the schedule, and here are links to our Carrd and Guidebook.
Happy hunting!

Event poll results!
(summary version)
So last week I opened a poll to check what kind of YR fandom events you guys wanted to see and the respondents were... how shall I put it... "very excited" is most applicable I think? ;)
Because I'm a nerd who likes to analyze the results but also doesn't want to chase her entire following away, I'm going to make two result posts:
This post, where I will summarize the results as succint as I can, and address some of the remarks and suggestions that I received. I'll also make a conclusion on what I would suggest to do - feedback on that is certainly welcome!
A second post (which I'll link when I finish it, most likely tomorrow or even after cause I'm slow as fuck) with some more graphs, percentages, observations, cause I don't know shit about statistics but that won't stop me from having fun with it!
Fair warning - it's pretty long. I just find it easier to explain a little about the decisions I'm (not) taking, both to invite discussion and because I don't want this to be a black box blog that does whatever and you never know why. That being said...
Ready? Let's go!
RESULTS
I received 72 responses, 36 writers and 36 readers.
The top 3 most wanted events by READERS is: Big Bang (89%), Theme Week (86%), and Weekly Challenges (83%). The event they were least excited about is Author Interviews (56%).
The top 3 events writers most want to PARTICIPATE in is, in order: Author Interviews (69%), Theme Week (64%), and Fic Exchange (61%). The events they DO NOT want to participate in are Author Interviews (25%), very closely followed by Big Bang and Advent (both 22%).
READERS were (very) slightly more excited about a Wilmon theme week rather than a general YR week. WRITERS clearly preferred a general YR week. For both groups, a YR women week comes in third, and rarepair week is fourth.
All types of weekly writing challenges suggested scored similarly.
(I know some of these seem contradictory, which I why I'll make the second post explaining how I calculated these rankings and why -for example- Author Interviews are both the most AND the least popular event for writers ;) )
SUGGESTIONS
A lot of people wrote in suggestions, which I was SUPER happy about (I closed the form now but if you have any more, please just hit my inbox or DM me at @hilliska). A few people also offered to help, which I'm definitely gonna hold you to when decisions are starting to get made! ;)
Many people were excited about possible collabs between writers and artists.
"What about a "finish your draft/wip" or "write a new chapter on a wip". I have so many languishing WIPs…" I think this is an EXCELLENT idea tbh - though we could incorporate it in the big bang by allowing wips as well. Also, as an FYI, there is also a (non-fandom-specific) Finish Your Shit-Big Bang that takes place every year (though this year's round is close to posting already) ;).
"I’d also love to see more Podfic in this fandom, but I don’t know how that could be an event." I have zero experience with podfic but this does sound (ha!) like it could be fun. Maybe someone has experience with this from a different fandom? (honestly I'd love to experiment with this so hmu)
"Authors sign up to take one shot requests or readers get to write a prompt. Or if readers could submit or vote on prompts or something? Or readers submit a song and author writes a one shot based on a song. Something like that where readers can be involved too :)" We could also easily incoporate this in a big bang - do a prompt bang or a reverse bang (fic based on art) for example? Or maybe involve readers in the weekly challenges, by suggesting tropes/words/... ?
"Write a comment on a fic-week!" Yessss!!!! I am like... 95% sure there is a tumblr-wide event for this already but I can't for the life of me find it. So I could signal boost that or yeah, we could just pin a day ourselves :).
"Group chat/watch" I'm afraid I'm not the right person to organize this kind of thing, but if you've been thinking of doing this and you were afraid no one would be interested - this is your sign!! ;)
"live writing event" Same as above - though I do think there's some discords where this happens already?
"Some sort of collab, where authors get to write a fic together." This could definitely be fun! There is currently one that originated on Twitter called Unlabeled - I don't know all the writers but I recognize at least @yourdemiurge, @skydragon05, @1-life-to-give, and @in-amor-veritas. Which obviously doesn't help if you're a writer wanting to collab, but at least there's people with experience in this fandom ;).
"Maybe a poetry week?" I don't even write poetry but I'm obsessed with this suggestion. Could also be a writing challenge? Not sure about a whole week either, but there's World Poetry Day in March so maybe that can be a mini-event?
"Something not fic centered? Like fanart, edits, cosplay etc." This is one of those things that I'm throwing out there for other people to run with, maybe, because. Well, I'm a writer and I know fic, but I really don't know much about the rest... Which is not to say I don't want to (help) run anything like this because it definitely could be fun, but it's a little out of my wheelhouse. But maybe @youngroyalsfanartarchive can help or knows people who would?
And now what??
Consider the below not as a definitive list but as a stream-of-consciousness conversation starters, so don't hesitate to send me your thoughts.
I will definitely do a Big Bang. Prompt-based or art-based or wip-based or something else remains to be decided, but this will happen. It will not happen NOW, however, because we don't know when season 3 will air. Big Bangs are big events, they ask a lot from writers, and if the s3 premiers at any time between signups and publications, it's going to make everything more difficult. But there was sufficient interest by writers to participate, so once we got a s3 date I want to put a timeline on this.
I'm talking with people about a possible YR women's week. The general/Wilmon week scored higher in the polls, but since we already had that in spring I'd like to switch it up a little.
I would like to do *something* for the anniversary of s2. Don't want to go regular theme week for this because of the above possibility, but maybe the not-fic-centered event could be good for this - we could do favorite episode/favorite non-wilmon character/... which are things that non-content-creators can also participate in by writing a short paragraph, reblogging gifsets/art of that episode/character, ... "Finish your wip" would also be a good one for this though :)
The people behind the 2023 Secret Santa will not organize one this year, but I don't really want to jump in that, necessarily, because there's enough other possibilities and they might be back. But a Valentine fic exchange could maybe work?
The advent calendar idea drew mixed reactions (maybe because it's less well known?) and while I do think it could be fun, there's enough other things that people are excited about, so I'm putting it in the freezer for now.
The weekly challenges also drew mixed reactions - both readers and writers were excited to see them happen, but only a third of writers said they would definitely/probably participate. Then again, half of them said they would POSSIBLY participate. Maybe because it's an ongoing thing, so they don't want to promise they'd participate EACH WEEK but only sometimes? So I'm not sure about this (also because it would significantly up the time required to maintain the blog). So I'd love more feedback on this to see which shape or form you guys would like this to take.
Fic recs scored solidly in the middle of the possibilities for both reader and writers. I wanted to include it because I was curious, but I'm a little hesitant to really do something with it, mostly because it often ends up being a popularity contest and. Well. We already know how to sort by kudos/comments on AO3. So I'm curious to hear other people's experiences on how to maybe circumvent that.
The Author Interviews were the most contested event - even (or rather *especially* among writers (and I secretly think it's hilarious the most wanted event by writers is the one that doesn't require them to write at all :D). I do think it could be fun (though I admit this is a format mostly geared towards writers) to help other writers to find other people to collaborate with, find betas, learn about different writing processes, ... And a self-rec feature would allow for fic recs without the popularity factor. So I'll most likely run this as a (bi-)weekly feature alongside the other events.
#young royals#library managment#this took me way too long jc#I promise there will be graphs but it'll be later. okay? ;)#and again this is a conversation starter#please let me know what you think

WRITING UPDATE!! 🙏🏻❤️ The good AND the bad news... 👀
GOOD: The Eyes Like Stars girlies are going to EAT!! Chapter 19 will be up and posted... TOMORROW (November 21)!!
BAD: I will be on fic hiatus for any fics outside of The Godfather universe as I'm risking an extreme burn out/writer's block tackling everything on at once. It was great while it lasted but it's just not something I can manage with my current lifestyle atm. 💔 That being said, I need to focus on finishing/writing up all of my Godfather fics before I can return to Eyes Like Stars (which is near completion) and Blood Money.
MAFIA WIFE RELATED.
I'm unfortunately no longer accepting submissions for this fic. I've loved receiving them and looking forward to Mafia Wife anons every evening but it's sadly gotten out of control. My inbox is full of hundreds of suggestions for which I'm very grateful for, but they are no longer just "suggestions". Whole child names and personalities have been picked out for Gabriella and Sonny and other character/personality traits assigned to Gabriella as a whole. Sometimes I think the suggestions are mini fan fics of my own fics in there. 😳 It's reached a degree where there are people getting upset/angry at me for not posting or using their submissions. Also, these kinds of long, extremely detailed suggestions are not applicable to my fics and I sadly find myself barely being able to post suggestions. The ones I have posted will take a very long time for me to organize and sort through to add them to the fic's planning when I get around to writing Chapter 2 which I'm grateful is highly anticipated, and I just don't want to take forever planning/writing that out for you guys.
I may be willing to open up suggestions for Mafia Wife in the future as the fic progresses, but for now I will not be. Please respect this. ❤️

I'm baaack! My holiday fun is pretty much over (my new year's eve plans involve me, comfy pajamas, buffalo dip and Andy and Anderson on TV), which means I will be around on main, working on getting ready for 2025, prepping January events, and plugging away at filling out our calendar.
One important thing to note: due to us not really having an accurate gauge on where we are activity-wise until post holiday, we have decided to add five more bonus spots for the time being for new writers to come join us. With our current application, this means we have five spots open for any writer who wants to join us, as long as you are willing to fill a wanted connection!
Tomorrow kicks off our New Year's Eve Party and Polar Plunge events (will reblog after this)! I know people are still enjoying the holiday, and that is great, but we are really hoping you'll come join us on dash to enjoy our last / first event of the year! You are still more than welcome to post and reblog holiday gifts as well, let's just maybe try to wrap that up before the holiday events end, so we can fresh start.
This is also a really, really good time to check over pages, make sure that things are updated. It's a good idea to check pages like:
players page.
taken characters / faces.
occupations.
housing.
connections.
yearbook.
residents.
If there's anything that you need changed, added or removed, please send an ask here to main, and I'll be sure to get it taken care of for you over the next few days!
Otherwise, let's have a great weekend! xx

Everybody! Thank you for helping get the Steambird to 100 Followers. : ) I hope you all will enjoy tomorrow's issue of the Steambird. Your constant support has gotten the account to where it is today! Following as such, mod applications to join the team will be released tomorrow. And will be open for all of February.
The Steambird will be accepting editors, writers, formatters, interviewers, and link finders. Besides this, the Steambird would also be open to receiving any pitches for small columns(ex: Mona's in game Steambird Astrology Column) and any sort of suggestions on how to make the Steambird experience more compelling and entertaining for that of the audience.
Due to irl busy-ness, the Steambird issue has been postponed to later this week! Apologies to everyone for the delay.
Mod Applications will, however, be posted in the meantime and will stay open until the end of February (which may be extended further until Mid March)

We can't thank you enough for the interest that you've shown our little corner of the Internet — every application sitting in our inbox is at a caliber far beyond anything we could've ever hoped to have come within the Windsor Bay city limits. It's in saying that that we're excited to announce we have dates and times for 'ya! — Initial acceptances will occur tonight, January 18th at 7PM EST. After this, we will begin rolling acceptances as applications come in & admin availability is present until we hit our writer cap. — Our soft opening or, our dedicated time for writers to get settled, post introductions and reach out regarding plots and connections will occur immediately following acceptances. No in character posts are to be made during this time. — Our official opening for in character interactions will occur tomorrow, January 19th at 7PM EST. Gif chats, face to faces, para threads, text messages, anything that your heart desires; this is when they'll be able to take center stage on our dash! Our activity rules will also go into effect at this time. We still have a few hours to go until we start posting acceptances, so if you're just now finding us or you're on the fence about joining us, now is the perfect time to get your applications sent in! We would love to see more male or non-binary applications in our inbox, as well as some diversity in character careers/occupations. We are putting a pause on applications for Fords and Hawthornes until acceptances can occur and we can work with the writers to establish family trees, as well as discouraging any more applications for characters who have ties to sex work. Thank you to each of you who have shown interest in Windsor Bay. We are unbelievably ecstatic to start writing with you and your characters! 🤍

would you consider enforcing a mun limit? i’m excited, but a little nervous that too many muns/muses will be overwhelming.
Hi lovely, so that's totally valid and a great question. Honestly, I also tend to get a little overwhelmed with groups that are very large as well. I do think that this is something Admin T and I will discuss after our first round of acceptances, as it's also something we have briefly tossed around together recently. We are keeping an open mind for now, as it really just depends on the interest in the group as whole! What I want most is for this to be a fun experience, and intricate plots, and for the roleplay to continue on for a long time, watching it grow along with our characters. I love love development, and watching the course of it over time. So for that, we need dedicated writers and members. That being said, we haven't discussed a mun limit at this time, but I can foresee it in the future, or after this first round of acceptances! Considering this group is going to be very interactive, with us as admins/the main, sending each mun / character different arcs for their characters gradually over time to steer them and keep things fresh, funky, and spooky. For now, we're playing it by ear. Though if this is something that we do add, we will let everyone know before our submission closes this weekend! The current app count probably will not be the number we start with, considering the factors of opening a roleplay. Sometimes you don't get accounts sent in, or roles get reopened, and as much as we would hate to turn away an applicant- that can always potentially be a factor as well. I hope that puts you at ease a little bit, and I hope your nervous jitters turn into jitters of excitement. And I will discuss this more with Admin T tomorrow when she wakes up. Our sleeping beauty is dreaming right now !
