nanaboooooo i'm uno reversing you! what monsters would you and your blorbos be?! please answer for as many as you'd like <3
Amirabooooo 💗
Choso would obviously be a vampire. I’m not even thinking about other potential monsters.
Sugishita would be a werewolf! He’s protective of his pack but can’t stand anyone else. Loves to nap & to be outdoors. Also he growlscase closed hahahah. But also Sugishita as an elf…he is so pretty with his long limbs & hair…
Hotaru…now he’s tricky…either dragon or werewolf. He loves his swords aka treasures & his fiery temper indicate dragon behavior to me…but looking at him he looks so werewolf (maybe that’s just wishful thinking bc I want him to be able to detect when I’m ovulating & go mad over it 🥰)
As for myself I think I’m either a vampire or a siren. A creature that’s deathly but mostly just wants to be left alone & will eat men if they wanna act funny grrrrrrr

This list consists almost entirely of newer fics, so please show them some extra love and leave a kudos, and even a comment if you have the time. It’s important we also give the newer, unknown authors a chance so they keep having motivation to write more amazing stories for us all to read <3
Are you afraid of God? by @lightwoodsmagic l 53K l Supernatural Elements
It was supposed to be simple; bring us the boy, wipe away the debt. Watching Harry now, beautiful and almost untouchable where he stood against the railing, it seemed clear to Louis what he should’ve known from the moment he saw him. It was never going to be simple. “Do you think it’s possible to redeem everything that we’ve done?” Louis moved, desperate to be closer, the siren in the background obvious that everything was about to fall apart again. “I don’t know if there’s any point.” Harry kept his gaze on the burning city, eyes weary but bright. “Are you afraid of God, Louis?” “No, but I’m afraid of you.”
A Bioshock Infinite AU where nothing is ever as it seems, and time is always irrelevant.
I'm a Rocket Man by @adoredontour l 47K l Road Trip
All he could hear were the faint sounds of Pina Colada coming from the radio and his own heart beating erratically against his chest.
“Oops,” he heard coming from the other side of the front window. He quickly pushed the grey rubber towards the back of the car, the rubber of the thing groaning and squeaking as he did so. Finally, after wrestling the thing away from him, Harry came into view, face pressed against the other side of the window.
“Hi.” Louis smiled, looking towards Harry, eyes curious. He almost got lost in the way Harry’s face was so cutely pinched, green eyes glowing in the sunlight. He was brought back to reality when Harry tried to move, causing the grey whatever it was to push against Louis again. “What the fuck is this?”
“Uhh... it’s Randy?”
or, Niall is an investigative journalist, Liam is his biggest fan, Zayn is just along for the ride, and Harry probably isn’t an alien. A roadtrip au no one asked for.
Take A Chance On Me by @peachypetalhazz l 39K l University
When Harry receives two tickets to see one of his favourite bands, he'd expected that his best mate would accompany him. However, it is soon learned that the intentions behind this so-called gift were far more wondrous than he initially thought.
with no way out and a long way down by @so-why-let-your-voice-be-tamed l 31K l Royalty l Soulmates
Prince Harry is ten when he receives his soulmark.
Just Let Me Adore You by @chloehl10 l 26K l Kid Fic
When Louis’ daughter presents him with a Christmas gift far beyond the price range of a four year old, he jumps to the worst of conclusions. He’s pleasantly surprised when he finds out how she isn’t as naughty as he thought she was, and who came to her rescue.
Lovin' you is a gift by @goldbootsandvans l 25K l Fake Dating
With his 28th birthday approaching, Louis was looking forward to celebrating in New York City with an all-expenses paid trip. He just didn't expect to spend it with an escort when he suddenly finds himself single a few days before it. A Pretty Woman AU.
Forever And Always by @jacaranda-bloom l 25K l Vampire Harry
“Right,” Harry says and slaps his hands down on the kitchen benchtop. Now he just has to get home, find this poor Niall guy who is currently camped out in his body, and have them swapped back. What could possibly go wrong?
OR the one where Harry’s neighbour is a crotchety old witch who hates vampires, Niall is the unsuspecting human who ends up inhabiting Harry’s body, and Louis is the caseworker who is assigned to swap them back. How it ends up a love story is anyone’s guess.
Bare Essentials by @onlyforthebravee l 14K l Stripper Harry
Harry works at Bare Essentials as a stripper, but when he loses his first job, he decides to start doing the VIP's, which is how he meets Louis, who is as mysterious as he is fascinating.
i took my love (take it down) by @leedsau l 11K l Historical
“You know you’re crazy right?” Louis says one afternoon while they’re out on a stroll with the twins. All-day Harry had been trying to get cozy with him. He was the one who suggested that they walk to the town square together because he wanted to pick something up, and Louis was the one who made the twins tag along with them as a buffer.
The annoyed look on Harry’s face as he told their parents the plan was almost enough for him to call off this whole thing and just say he was feeling ill and needed to lay down (Louis wouldn’t put passed Harry to try and nurse him back to good health which would mean being in close proximity to each other that so idea was squashed). So he watched Harry suck it up, broke the news to the twins and now here they are walking.
Harry threw the leaves he’d been throwing around, at him, making them laugh. He gave Louis a funny look. “How am I crazy?" He asked, "Is it because I know what I want and I go after it.” Harry gets in Louis’ face, he can feel his heavy breathing on his lips. “Or is it something else?”
Wildflower by @halosboat l 10K l Florist Harry
"So, since you're an expert on the whole flowers thing, what kind of flower do you think I'd be?
"Would fit you," Harry amends, "and that would be sunflowers."
"Okay... and why sunflowers?"
Harry gazes down at him, running his fingers through Louis' soft fringe.
"Simple, because the sun follows you wherever you go."
The one where Harry works as a florist at Wildflower and Louis is a customer who keeps coming back.
temporary fix by @onlyforthebravee l 2K l Bartender Harry l PWP
Harry meets his one time Idol, Louis Tomlinson, while he's working at the bar one night. Louis takes him home.
Again, if you read, please remember to leave kudos and/or a comment so we keep motivating our lovely, talented writers and make them feel valued

Whitmore Guy - the letter
Tumblr media
Part One
Kai Parker x fem!Reader slowburn
whatever gifs I’m going to use on this one, I hope the creators are okay with that
The Mystic Falls team decide they want to get rid of Kai Parker for good - and in a way that would ensure he won’t be able to come back. Death is not secure enough this time, so they go with Malivore. Who knows what the poor bastard is doing down there, but six months later, a new guy comes to work at the college - and meets the reader seemingly for the first time.
word count: 1189
warnings: Damon’s still a dick and also bitter
Damon was clutching a piece of paper in his hand. He could hear his brother, perched up against the doorframe, waiting for him to say something. But both vampires kept silent. Stefan ran out of patience first.
“What’s that?”
He blinked, and folded the letter, putting it in the drawer, under his neatly folded shirts – all black.
“You said you don’t want to know, little brother”.
Stefan cocked his head, lazily, his marble face covered with the dark fog.
“It’s got something to do with Malivore and why we all were there?” he guessed.
“Yes. And you said”, Damon repeated gravely, “that you don’t want to know. So, go, and don’t… I’d say forget about it, but you kinda already did, so…”
Stefan shifted a little, closing his self-embrace, encircling his elbows. He sighed.
“Was it a horrible thing we did? Why wouldn’t I want to know what happened?”
“It wasn’t horrible. It was the right thing to do”.
“Does you letter from the past state so?”
“Exactly”.
“Who else knows?”
Damon said nothing, but gazed at him, his manly jaw moving forward. Why does it always have to be him?
Tumblr media
Listen here, Damon, it’s me. I mean, you. You’re sitting in your car outside the cave in Georgia right now, confused about what you’re doing here. The first thing you do now is, you leave and read this completely and utterly alone. Bon Bon wanted to know, too, because she’s a brave soul, but honestly, he’s not worth it. Don’t tell her.
Are you completely alone? Are you sure?
You were at the pit because you were dealing with the baddest scum on Earth. Let me tell you a story.
In 1994, a guy, a siphoner witch, killed his whole family – well, almost all of them – in cold blood like a freak he is, for power. He was locked away in a magical prison world and spent almost twenty years there, but he got out – not gonna mention how, or else you’ll be real angry.
Anyway, upon being released, the guy went for Mystic Falls. The guy’s name was Malachai Parker, but everybody called him Kai. Remember it. Remember this name and know that he’s the worst crap headed, the most violent, the most fucked up, the craziest, filthiest and absolutely the most annoying little shit you’ve ever met in your life. I’m not being dramatic, Damon, he’s the absolute worst. What??? Worse than Katherine? you ask. Are you annoyed yet? I had to spend TIME with him. He was pretty damn near to Katherine, man. You completely lost all hope when he met Y/N. He tricked her into loving him when he solved the problem of difficult relationships with her father by killing him. Seeing that we let it slide, he proceeded with killing her grandmother, too. All the bullcrap about him loving someone is complete nonsense because Kai’s a diagnosed sociopath. He did not love her. He’s used her because she has magic and they had some kind of connection which allowed him to siphon her as much as he wanted. All that is not relevant anymore, thank Fuck. I never managed to fully grasp that vessel-siphoner witchy tofu. Who cares?
That’s the main reason you all actually gathered to get rid of him: he was turning your friend, a girl you swore to protect ten years ago, into a murderer. Together, they have burned a house with living people inside. Y/N killed Shane Atticus while being with him, and she also killed Katherine to get back at YOU when you tore his head off. Yes, you have killed him before, but the bastard crawled right back from hell and dived his claws deep inside of her. She was turning violent, erratic, selfish. She manipulated you to send Rebekah to hell so that Klaus had a reason to open the gates – and let him out.
Y/N was transforming into this beast he’s been grooming, making her just like him.
You threw him in Malivore because he was that bad. Here’s the list of other things Kai did that led to this day:
He killed his pregnant sister, together with her two unborn children. She was Ric’s fiancée.
He killed the surviving members of his family and coven, hunting them down like animals, one by one, in a sadistic way.
He left Bonnie in the prison world for months, and she nearly killed herself there.
He stabbed her several times.
He tried to kill YOU and your brother.
He tortured Elena. For fun.
He shredded a Grill bartender’s neck because he was talking to Y/N.
He has turned himself into a vampire to become a heretic.
He was an abomination of a vampire, and he didn’t drink human blood, he fed on supernatural creatures. He’s been turning people in the town so that they served as his blood bags.
He was slaughtering the citizens of Mystic Falls for fun.
He killed Matt Donovan (the male blonde guy with sad life).
Those are just the things off the top of our head. There’s more I can’t think of.
Remember, Damon, you’ve all decided that it would be the best thing for her and for the rest of the goddamn PLANET if he was gone. You all decided that throwing him into the pit of oblivion would be the most suitable thing. He never existed, as far as we know. There’s no Kai Parker, and there has never been. You have cleared Y/N’s phone, the house, her computer, so there’s no evidence of him in her life. It’s all gone now. She’ll be much much better off… it’s done. Kai Parker is gone forever, and I can’t express how much relief it is (gonna be when you do it). You gotta believe me, Damon, he was worse than Klaus, nastier than travelers and bitchier than the sirens. On the scale of badness he was like 10 poisonous snakes that eat your balls and set you on fire and make you shit yourself while singing Michael Bolton. He was obnoxious, loud, annoying, intrusive and just outright evil. His eating habits… There was never hope for that man, if that’s what you’re asking yourself.
I’m writing it a bit ahead, but I’m pretty sure he’ll kick, and scream, and beg when I drag that monster to the pit. This will be the happiest day of my life.
It was the right thing to do, Damon.
P.S.
Nobody else wanted to remember about this, except Bonnie, but I’d rather you kept it from her, too. She deserves much better than live with even a shade of this in her life. The guys specifically said they don’t want to remember him and what we did to him: Blondie vamp, Elena, Alaric and Stefan. So, keep it from them, you owe them that much. Tell them you don’t remember anything either, and what a bloody shame that nobody thought to leave a note. What a bunch of idiots!
P.P.S.
Keep an eye on Y/N. Tell her she had food poisoning or whatever so that’s why she wasn’t at the Malivore pit with everybody.
Damon

How about Akirann for Monster/Monster Hunter/Monster Tamer AU?
send me an au for a short fic
full admission that i no longer have any idea what i’m doing
Being a vampire granted Akira a certain kind of immortality that was dead useful for monster hunting, but (perhaps understandably) something he didn’t really want spread around, especially among the clients that hired him to hunt, well. Monsters.
That meant trying to fake the song and dance of being very careful around the siren he’d been hired to put down.
Sirens were a subset of charm-witches, likely but not necessarily humanoid, who sang a deadly song to lure men to their deaths. Truly a terrifying prospect if you didn’t have magical immunity, or so he’d gathered from the the pale faces of the villagers who lived next to the inlet where she resided.
(There’s only been one casualty in the whole time she’d been here, which was making him doubt that this was a siren at all. It could also be a lost mermaid who liked to sing, a lonely river nymph, or even just an average copycat with bad luck. Hell, it could be a human for all the evidence the villagers were willing to part with.
Still. They were paying him. The commission he got would pay for his Phantom Thief guild membership for another year. His pride wasn’t above that.)
All this to say that it was with less trepidation that he maybe should have felt that he tracked the pretty tune that lurked at the edge of the glade down to the water’s edge
The target in question was classically seated naked on a rock, almost definitely a siren, and looking very lonely indeed as she swished her bare toes in the waves.
...Wasn’t he supposed to be immune to charm spells?
All he wanted to do was...
Mmmm, bad line of thought. He shook off the distraction and reached for his silver bullets, quietly loading his gun and cocking it at the siren.
She looked up sharply at the noise, locking slit golden eyes with his own grey, and he waited out that one suspended moment.
(Sirens never failed to surprise, and it had been far too long since he’d had a fight.)
Then she squawked, jumped, and flailed ungracefully until she crashed face first into the water, barely submerged in the shallows.
Akira slowly lowered the gun, bemused.
...Well.
He had said that sirens never failed to surprise.
She just laid there for a second, then lurched up and backwards, shooting one highly alarmed glance in his direction before scrambling behind the rock with a rather unstealthy series of splashes.
“Um, don’t shoot?” she squeaked once hidden.
He’d be honest here; he’d never met a siren who used ‘charmingly inept’ as a seduction tactic.
(It was working, though. He had to give her that.)
“Are you the siren that’s been haunting that village over there?”
“Um...” she said, and peeked around the rock. Her single visible eye had gone from gold to sky blue. “Kiiiind of? I-it’s a long story.”
“I was hired to exterminate you,” he informed her mildly. It was a much less appealing prospect than it had been before he’d heard her speak, but, well. Siren. That was the whole point. “You’ve been luring men to their deaths.”
“Oh, come on!” she snapped. Her head disappeared behind the rock again, this time with a scowl. “It was just one! And he deserved it!”
“Did he?” All the reports he’d heard of Baron Kamoshida had been glowing. Most were horrified and heartbroken that he was gone.
“My best friend. He ruined her. Death was too kind.”
It was spoken in the flat, hard tone of someone who’d run the question over in their mind many times and come to the same conclusion every repetition.
“...Touché.”
She sighed, sounding exhausted, then: “Oh! Maybe you’d know—is there any way to unbecome a siren? He’d already been after me, so charm spells seemed like the best way to get to him, but I didn’t realize I’d transform until after I drowned him.”
The scars Father Shido had left on his neck burned for a moment, then he said, “Afraid not.”
“Darn it.”
It was such a mild response for someone who’d been cursed with immortality that he blinked. Come to think of it, Kamoshida had only turned up as a corpse a couple of years ago, hadn’t he?
“...How old are you, again?”
“Uhh... well, I was sixteen, but it’s been kind of a while since then, y’know? I lost track. Can’t be too much older than that, though.” She paused. “Maybe I’m still sixteen.”
“Baron Kamoshida died two years ago,” he said, deadpan-flat.
“Oh!” A forehead, a pair of bright blue eyes, tangled blonde hair, and several fingers became visible over the top of the rock. “Then I’m eighteen... I think. Is it November yet?”
“Next month.”
“Seventeen,” she amended, then poked her whole head over the rock, apparently having forgot about the gun. “How old are you?”
“Around two hundred,” he said vaguely. Definitely closer to three hundred, but still technically two hundred-something. Probably. He should probably check on that.
“Wow...” Her eyes were wide as saucers.
Seventeen might technically be an adult for a human in these times, but...
Innocent.
He wouldn’t be able to live with himself if he pulled the trigger here. He wasn’t even entirely sure he’d be able to live with himself if he walked away at all.
(If Sojiro hadn’t picked him up by the scruff and set him on his feet when he’d first been turned...)
He heaved a silent sigh, then started unloading his gun, clapping the bullets into his gloved palm and putting them back in their pouch. That done, he met her gaze and tilted his head in a gesture for her to come over.
She shrank down. “I’m not really dressed for company. Or dressed at all.”
I noticed. It was surprising that she cared about it, though.
...Though. Come to think of it, it would probably make sense that she was a bit body shy, given how new she was to the ‘siren’ business.
He shrugged off his coat and held it out to her, pointedly turning his head away.
It didn’t take much time at all for her to come out from behind the rock, much less warily than he might have expected, one arm clamped over her ample chest and the other absently hiding her crotch.
(In his defense, his peripheral vision was very good and he didn’t look any closer than what he was already seeing.
...Wasn’t his libido supposed to be dead too?)
She covered as much of herself up in his coat as she could, shooting him curious looks as he removed one of his more decorative belts to secure it around her waist.
“Don’t touch the pockets,” he instructed. There was a second part to that, something about there being dangerous things in there, but she was... much more distracting than he was used to dealing with, especially now that she was wearing his coat, and the words slipped away from him.
“So, uh... what are we doing?” she said, chill and curious and sounding like she’d be game for most of it, and suddenly he was very glad that he was the hunter who’d found her.
“Making you my apprentice,” he said, and reached inside his doublet for an empty phial.
“Appre-what?” then, “Meep!” as as he sank one of his fangs into his own wrist and caught the trail of blood in the vessel.
“Apprentice. It’s not good for a young fae to be on their own.” He put a cork in the phial and closed his fist around it—a tracking spell, a protection spell, a minor luck spell, a stealth spell... and that was about as much as he could imbue into an ounce of his own blood. “That’s how monsters are made.”
“Ohh...” she said, watching as he pulled out a cord and secured the charm. “Wait. What?!”
(Expressive. It was... nice.)
He looped the cord around her neck, looping it into a knot and casting another few spells making sure that it couldn’t be used to hurt her and couldn’t be removed until she was strong enough to remove it herself. Stronger than a basic durability spell and made sure she wouldn’t be stuck carrying him around forever if this didn’t work out and he was indisposed.
“They do things they shouldn’t because they don’t know better,” he explained absently. "So I’ll make sure you know better.”
“That’s pretty ominous.”
He shot her a dry look as he let go and gestured for her to follow him. “Don’t touch the shiny rocks. Don’t stand in bright places. Don’t eat anything that can talk.”
“Oh, uh, o-okay? ‘Shiny rocks’...? Is that, like, gemstones, or gold, or— hey wait, where are we going?”
‘Wouldn’t you like to know’ probably wouldn’t be the best thing to say here, would it. He decided on honesty instead: “First clothes, then to register you as my legal charge with the vampire queen, then get you a guild membership, then go take care of a chupacabra infestation in the lower reaches.”
“Chupacabra infe— that sounds kind of important!”
He frowned as he led the way back to the village, trees passing them by in silent vigil. “Does it?”
“Goats are some people’s livelihoods, y’know?” She sounded genuinely upset about this. “How long will the rest of this stuff take?”
“A couple of weeks...?” he said, surprised into seriousness.
“Their goats will all be dead by then!”
...Huh. They would, wouldn’t they.
Akira kept walking through the profound moment of realization that he didn’t spend nearly enough time around humans anymore.
“Okay, how about this: we get me some clothes, and then take care of the chupacabra infestation, and then do the other stuff.”
Innocent, expressive, and conscientious. He found himself half-smiling as he glanced over his shoulder. “Sounds good.”
She let out an ughhhh... of exasperated relief.
Maybe she wasn’t human anymore, but she was only two years out from it, not well over two hundred. Maybe he’d be getting more out of this apprenticeship than he’d thought.
---
They bought clothes from the village and then moved onto the southern reaches, collected chupacabra pelts for the client and then roasted the bodies so Akira could show his new protégé how to draw the life energy she needed out of them.
Then they headed back to the capital, where he had a conversation with the queen. She shouted a lot and then handed him the paperwork (good old Sae), and it was only when he was trying to fill it out that he realized he’d never asked for his new apprentice’s name.
Hm.
Sae didn’t shout at him for that, just gave him one of the most long-suffering looks he’d even seen and let him take the paperwork home.
(Lady Ann Takamaki of Shujin was his new apprentice, apparently—though he better knew her as a child of sunshine who had rapidly established herself as his lifeline.
Innocent, expressive, conscientious, and more human than not. All he had to do was glance at her to get a second opinion on his decisions, and that was coming in even more handy than he’d guessed it would.)
After that, it was a guild membership, then Igor telling him to go get Ann checked in with the sirens too or Philemon would get angry, and it was some point during that long, relentless search for Belladonna that Ann finally asked.
“So... why are you doing all this for me, anyway? What do you get out of it?”
“Company. Help with work. Moral support.”
“...Seriously?” she asked. On anyone else, it would have sounded at least a little bit flat, but with her there was only curiosity to be found. “Moral support?”
“Especially moral support.”
She was doing a stellar job at propping them up for him while he brushed away two hundred-odd years of dust and decay under her guidance.
She flopped back on her inn bed with a groan, a soft fwumph of fabric and a little grunt in her lungs, her scent swirling in little eddies around the room. “Well. You do you, I guess. Going to bed yet?”
“In a bit,” he said, instead of only if you join me, because he was pretty sure that would earn him a weird look that said he’d misstepped yet again.
He was learning!
“Okay,” she said, then yawned. “‘Night.”
“Goodnight.”
Silence, except for the rustling of bedclothes and mattress while Ann got comfortable, and then:
“And hey, Akira?”
“Hm?”
“Thanks. You really saved me. Literally.”
He glanced sideways, just enough to catch her soft smile amid a pool of blankets and blonde curls, and couldn’t help a little sigh. “...My pleasure.”

hello... answer ALL of the halloween ask meme questions... OR the first 3 if you dont want to do them all
you fool... you’ve made me too powerful
Vampire: Someone offers you a chance at immortality. Do you take it, and why or why not?
- this is a hard one, I’d probably have to say no because the only thing I’m looking forward to about death is not having to, like, deal with the planet when there’s little oxygen left and it’s hot as fuck and dying for real. or when the sun explodes or some shit. I wanna be done with my time on earth before it becomes hell. I also think I would be SUPER fucked up if I had to outlive all of my loved ones because I’m so emotional I literally cannot handle it
Werewolf: If you had to spend your life with just one person, who would it be?
- ok this is a little gay but... probably You...
Witch: If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
- I think it would be nice if the greed levels in the world were just... waaayy lower. I think like 90% of our problems revolve around greed so maybe if people stopped hoarding money and killing the environment that would be nice
Ghost: Do you have any regrets?
- doesn’t everyone? I think I’m okay with where I’m at, though
Frankenstein: Is someone telling you how to live your life, or are you an independent person?
- I am a very independent person but I think everyone makes their suggestions from time to time
Mummy: If you were to fall into an eternal sleep, do you think anyone would miss you?
- I HOPE SO???? eternal sleep sounds kinda sexy though I am so tired
Zombie: Do you miss anyone right now?
- you...... and sasha and zuko :( I also miss being near peyton and aredin, we never get to hang out anymore because I’m like thousands of miles away
Faerie: If you could get away with anything, what would you do?
- I would move into another, less shitty residence hall and live there in secret because they won’t let me move right now. anything else would have moral consequences too great for me to do it
Nymph: What are you like when you’re by yourself?
- absolutely silent and usually melancholy or anxious as fuck. always deep in thought or texting you frantically so my loneliness doesn’t overwhelm me, I overthink a lot and get sad about shit if I’m left by myself for too long
Mermaid: How far would you go to keep the one you love?
- if they don’t love me back, I wouldn’t go very far at all, but if they did, then I would do just about anything
Shapeshifter: What would you change about yourself?
- I’m really self conscious about my face and my body and I wish I was prettier. I also wish my voice was more normal instead of, like, gravelly or whatever the fuck it sounds like, and I wish I didn’t have anxiety. wish the mole above my lip would go away
Banshee: If you knew one of your loved ones/best friends had only one day left to live, how would you spend that last day with them?
- DON’T make me think about this i would be crying and hugging them the whole time but I’d also try to help them do anything they wanted to do in their last day. I would probably confess all kinds of shit
Siren: If you could make anyone do anything, what would you make them do?
- I would make housing allow me to move to an apartment this year instead of next year so I could finally spend time with my pets again and not drive 8 hours every weekend just to see them
Genie: If you had one wish that would come true and couldn’t be reversed, what would you ask for?
- I would ask for my best friend’s chronic illness to go away forever
Fury: What is a word/phrase that you dread to hear?
- “hey can we talk?” or other anxiety-inducing shit, also things like “we were never friends” or whatever
Incubus: What would someone have to do to get in your pants?
- be semi-attractive, have a good sense of humor, have similar interests as me, probably be a girl rn because I am way too afraid of getting pregnant even with every single contraceptive method LEAVE ME ALONE im baby
Succubus: What’s one thing you can’t live without?
- you....
- and also sasha and zuko

Canon: Zane Flynt fucks
Me: haha u know what this means ;))))
Me:
Me:
Me: merfolk glamour time
[[MORE]]
Alright but for real tho u wanna see how deep I am in this fucking universe? Lego
I don't even know where to begin with this universe (Zer0 is an alien! Hammerlock is a werewolf! Troy is psychic! Tannis is a skag! Wait, no, wrong shitpost...) so imma open the 140 page document and start from the beginning
Annnnd Clay! Junpai-7.
When Zane meets Clay for the first time he mentions they did a smuggling job together on Junpai-7, u know, the water planet, so obviously this is good news (This made me super happy because my discord channel's name had been the junpai-7 moon pool for a while so I was like 'holy shit it's canon now' :') )
Timeline wise this isn't the beginning, but I don't write in chronological order and I don't order anything in chronological order, either, so. Eh.
Speaking of chronological order, I once got a line where Zane was like exclaiming something and used the moon instead of idk a god or powerful figure or smth and I was like 'lmao that's canon now'
So the moon... Elpis fucking got yeeted halfway across the galaxy or smth, and, considering we've seen (more) ocean on Pandora in 3 instead of just, like, Liars Berg (getting to THAT) or Tretchers landing, I feel bad for the tides. But that's good news for everyone else. Unless you were on Elpis, I guess.
Also hoh boy the 'end' of the game where Troy Phaselocks the moon was fun to write (it actually wasn't, I lowkey hate writing Moonstruck phases because... It hurts and I can't do it well.) also can we talk about how in tps the psychos are called Moonstrucks in tvhm because this makes me so happy. I really hope they did that intentionally considering H2O is an Australian show because my two favorite things combined can and will kill me. Wait actually the Troy boss fight is gonna be hilarious to write mostly because of that one attack with the tidal waves lol oh no
Also, also, also, you guys it's only explained in a guide book and never actually in-game as to why Captain's ship is Like That (TM) so I took some liberties and uhhh blame the Crackening. I mean the crackening happened after dahl pulled out of Pandora/Elpis so it works. It sorta works. It mostly works. Fuck. It works okay? shut. That's why Liars Berg is all frozen ocean [shoves 3 page essay about climate change on Pandora into the trash] don't need that anymore.
I was gonna talk about smth else
Oh yeah
Mostly brain freeze and trick of the light. That one meme video I made of Tannis and the Flynt Brothers imposed over that one clip of H2O (so let me get this straight: you freeze things, you explode things, and you boil things) wasn't just for laughs, it was actually a warning.
Each Flynt has a thing and Zane's is ice, Baron's is explosions, and Captain's is fire. (Glorious cleansing fire) Because it fits. It fits so well. I will say right off the bat that Mako Mermaids isn't my canon. I lowkey want to write out Charlotte as well (lol) because I've seen the 2nd season so many times and tbh I much prefer them having 1 really strong power over having 3+ really weak powers. Also Charlotte did nothing wrong in the first half of that season. Cleo was just a bitch to her. And Mako Mermaids is just. Not great on the power side of things. You can TURN INVISIBLE. USE IT. Soooo. (also cam got destroyed in s1 and I'm so glad they ended up making him work in s2 and 3. Because he deserved better and Zac was a terrible friend to him and only got away with it because he's a main character). /rant sorry I have so many feelings about these shows. Grew up with them soooooo.
And if ur wondering why I brought up trick of the light it's cause the 13th year exists and that movie was bopping. U guys remember Jess? Good times... Tuba pool scene is iconic. U know the one. I would also bring up aquamarine but ngl that movie was weaksauce comparatively. They hid that bitch in a water tower and iunno talked to earrings. Meanwhile in the 13th year they bring Jess back from the fucking dead and climb on walls like Spiderman. Clearly one is superior.
"but cruddy Aurelia has ice powers too and she's not a mermaid" no she's a werewolf like her brother we already went over that. Did u think I was kidding? No! I'm never kidding unless I am and I fucking love werewolves so I'd never kid about that. I love werewolves and I love Hammerlock and it's perfect I just love the idea of this gentlemanly hunter being a werewolf because I want to see a giant hulking monster being all proper and shit. They're just really cool. Werewolves > vampires and ngl I'm sad skyrim screwed over werewolves with the dawnguard dlc. Anyway Aurelia's ice powers are nanobots as explained in-game and listen I already lore-scienced this okay? Let me say it's amazing the things science is capable of when it thinks it's trying to beat out a competitor and doesn't realize non-Siren magic exists. Even better now that we know Sirens are not Eridian and actually existed before Eridians. Makes me giddy to think about. The universe is tearing me APART Lisa.
Oh speaking of, can we talk about the witch's brew quest on eden-6 because holy shit I had been writing Hiromi and her fascination with discovering all the secret circles long before the game came out and then learning about the group of witches and The Pact (TM) made me lose my shit because 'oh my god it's actually canon now'. We're on the canon path nowwwww. Soon. I hope we get a water planet dlc. I wants it, GB, I wants it.
Also I was totally gonna write a clip in the main story of the game (because I write a lot of backstory stuff if you can't tell, I only have like 3 scenes that take place during the events of the game and like 4 that are speculatory from before the game came out (including a scene from before I realized Troy was Like That but I edited it so he's more in-line and also has Maya's powers now so that's... Hm. In line with the storyline somewhere, but not an actual scene in the games story. Because its not possible with how the game does things (seperating Vault Hunters) I suppose I could just insert a 5th Vault somewhere and say it's the 4th Vault connected to the Machine (with nekrotefeyo's being the 5th). Fuck it.) and then 9,000 are backstory) where Hiromi comes back after like decades of the two not seeing each other and she's been hired to assassinate Zane by one of the many corporations looking for his corpse for a multitude of reasons (And Emma and Nino are both d e a d a s f, you know, for context). And like Barnabas (ya old bastard) Zane is still joking around and just having a grand old time catching up with his black ops buddy meanwhile she had just tried to blow his brains out (she's a sniper) and got pretty damn close. She's not even amused because of her psychic powers so she's just like 'ok' every time he opens his mouth because she already knows what he's going to say she's mostly just frustrated that she missed because she thought she knew him well enough to go off instead of just listening to her intuition but alas people change after, like, 3 decades of not seeing them.
Oh since we're talking about Hiromi that reminds me why Zane wears the black suit. In my non-h2o universe it's because it looks cool and provides some protection from dots. In the H2Oniverse it is because it's waterproof. Okay wait hang on context so Hiromi doesn't like take off his suit or anything, she's extremely gay and not interested, because I realize now how that sounds me relating Hiromi to the clothes, they just get into an argument about how Sirens don't have to follow any arbitrary rules to hide their magic and how it's easier to hide magic without giant glowing tattoos (and mind you this is before Zane even knows Tannis exists though he does immediately know she's a Siren and that's a whole nother can of worms) and hr's like 'I wear a bodysuit for most of my waking hours, so I am pretty sure they can try wearing long sleeved shirts and makeup for a day. Just a suggestion' but like way more in character (and for the scene) because do I sound like I'm in character right now? I'm not. I'm me. And God what a terrible thing to be.
So context for the context: ~magic is real~. If you've got it then you can usually tell who else has it if you're looking. It's especially clear if they're 'similar' to you (if ur a werewolf and u meet another werewolf then you sorta just know they're a werewolf) or if you're psychic (like Hiromi) then you can make some informed guesses. Like. Same Hat? Same Hat!!! Sirens are basically such powerful magic users that they are in literally a whole nother ball park. They're leagues above everyone else. Kill you just by looking at you sort of deal. So sirens normally don't feel other magic because their own magic is so strong it just 'overwrites' the other signals. You know, to not only explain why Lilith isn't immediately like 'who the fuck are you' to Zane and also how Amara couldn't tell Tannis is a Siren. I had a whole thing with Troy (who is psychic) being able to tell Zane had magic despite being near 4 Sirens at once because Troy grew up with Tyreen always at his side so he's used to it and knows how to look through it. Meanwhile Hiromi is basically incapacitated when she's near a Siren because she gets overwhelmed because her powers make it easier for her to read other people's magic.
Oh, context, the black ops outfit worked with Atlas for a short time (the group being Zane, Hiromi, Emma, and Nino. Emma is the yeehaw captain. She's the leader) and ended up meeting Steele for a little bit. Hiromi was just dead the entire meeting, Zane was totally out of it, and Emma and Nino were too busy eyefucking to really care that there was a Siren in the room so. Just imagine one person lying face down on the floor and crying, another staring at the wall without blinking, two undressing each other with their eyes, and then Cmdt. Steele standing in the middle like 'how the fuck did I get here'.
So that was everyone's first experience with a Siren.
There are more but ehhhh I'm tired and I mostly wrote this because I wanted to talk about it with someone else but they haven't read the whole thing yet so now I can scream into the void about it and not feel like I'm bothering them.
Hooray!

The Home We’ve Made
This is my being inspired by the Addams Family. Destiel. Enjoy!
A small part of Sam always assumed he’d fall in with his brother again, even though he knew there was only a small chance.
But every time he pictured their reunion, it was a bit more... well...
First things first.
Sam doesn’t have anything against monsters or demons or whatever else might crawl about in the world. They usually keep to themselves, and despite public misconceptions, they rarely kill or even attack humans.
And yet their father spent decades convinced that they had killed Mom, only to poison himself with alcohol in the end. By that time, Sam had been long gone, and, as he found when he arrived to organize the funeral, so was Dean.
All the times he’s wondered where life has taken him over the years, he’s been worried that he’s been walking down the same path as Dad.
The last time he saw him, right before he left for college, it certainly seemed that way. Dean was begging him to stay because only as a family they could be safe. Sam told him to grow up and slammed the door behind him.
Sam looks down on the file at his desk. Arthur Ketch, one of the vilest businessmen he’s ever come across (and as a lawyer, he meets enough... indecent people), has decided to buy a certain patch of land and build a skyscraper there. problem is, monsters and their loved ones live there, and they don’t want to sell; so he’s decided to use lawsuit over lawsuit to have them declared non-people, entities with no rights of their own.
Sam’s firm just took the case – for the monsters. He’s never been gladder he decided to take this job.
It’ll be best if he gets to know them first. He believes he’s pretty tolerant, but a meeting would do away with any prejudices he still carries around.
The land the monsters inhabit is located at the edge of town, although they have slowly advanced towards their human neighbours as the years progressed. There are more than enough humans now who have no problems befriending vampires and others.
Still, Sam can’t help but think it might not be the best omen that the first thing he comes across is a demon with dark red eyes and blood on his hands.
After he’s introduced himself, the demon’s eyes slowly return to green as he grins. “Sam Winchester? Now isn’t that interesting.” He doesn’t elaborate. “You want to talk to Cassie and Dean. They’re the leaders of our little group, if you wish to call it that.”
He points at a house further down the street. “My next door neighbours. Lovely couple.”
When he sees Sam looking at his hands, he adds, “Just a little ritual, something to take the edge of. No harm in that.”
Sam nods and moves on. If he really hurt anyone, they would know about it.
He knocks at Cassie’s (Cassandra?) and Dean’s (as always he feels a pang thinking of the name) door.
The man who opens him has dark hair and incredibly blue eyes it’s easy to drown in – Sam catches himself just in time.
“My apologies.”
The siren blinks and his eyes stop glowing. “My husband has long been immune against my snares. I forgot.”
“No harm done.” Once he explains his business, the siren looks – stricken? But they wanted his firm to take the case, so why –
“You – “ the siren forces out, “You are – “
“Cas?” a voice called out and then a man – human – stepped up to them.
Sam would have recognized him anywhere.
“Dean?”
“Sammy?”
Several explanations and a crushing hug later they were sitting in Dean’s and Cas’ kitchen, and Sam was trying to wrap his head around this new reality.
Dean was married. To a male. A male siren. And was living an apple-pie life.
Even if they don’t exactly have a picket fence.
Most monsters enjoy playing with human fears a bit, and Dean’s and Cas’ house is no exception. The prominent colours are black and purple, although Dean seems to have added shades of blue and green as well; there’ something looking like a human skull sitting on top of the fire place; and the pictures of their friends...
“I met him. He showed me your place” he says, pointing to a photo that he assumes shows Dean and Cas joining him for one of his rituals.
“Crowley. A bit much sometimes, but not a bad bloke” Dean says smoothly.
“What about him?” he asks when he comes across one where someone’s chugging apparently two litters of blood from a bottle.
“Benny. Vampire. Lives down the street. Just changed his wife Andrea. Cute couple, though not as cute as we, right babe?” Dean kisses Cas.
Sam swallows. “And these two are – “ There’s a woman conjuring butterflies out of thin air, a redhead looking at her adoringly.
“Gilda and Charlie. First friends we made around here.”
“I see.”
And that’s only the beginning. After they’ve gone through the case – there really is no way Ketch can win, but now Sam wants to make absolutely sure of that – Cas leaves them alone.
For a whole of five minutes.
Crowley appears in front of them. “Hey Squirrel, how’s the family reunion going?”
“Of course you didn’t say anything.”
He smiles. Thankfully he’s cleaned up. “The ghouls were getting a little cranky, by the way. I fixed it.”
“Sam mentioned the ritual.”
“They have enough carcasses now for a while.”
“Thanks. Dinner tonight?”
“Always a pleasure.”
He dis- then reappears in a matter of seconds. “Oh, and just a fair warning – my dear mother and I had another fight, there might be more raining frogs coming.”
“They were cute anyway. See you at dinner.”
“Laterz, Squirrel. Greet Feathers from me.” He looks at Sam, then snaps his fingers. “You can be Moose. Till then, Moose.”
And he’s gone.
“Sorry” Deans says matter-of-factly, “Rituals always rile him up a bit.”
Before Sam can asks about his mother, the door bell rings. It’s the vampire from the pictures, and as soon as Dena heard his voice, he asks his brother to join him and Cas.
“Hey Benny, how’s Andrew doing?”
“She’s wonderful about it all. Also, we’ve more than enough blood, so...”
“Ah, that reminds me” Dean interrupts him, popping into the kitchen and coming back with a blood bag. “Just in case.”
“Thanks, brother. Don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“I know what I’d do” Cas mumbles softly, taking Dean’s hand. “Crash and burn.”
“Oh, hush” Dean kisses him. “You were doing fine before I came along.”
Sirens, Sam suddenly remembers, life off the love and affection they inspire by snaring people – despite these emotions not being genuine. How much more nourishing must Dean’s true love be?
Not that it is one-sided. Cas could not look at his brother like that without reciprocating his feelings.
Sam’s mind is reeling. It has all been a bit much, and he says his goodbyes soon afterwards.
“You alright, Sammy?” Dean asks, just as Crowley pops back in – literally – wondering if they need help in the kitchen.
“Yes” he says weakly. “I just... have a lot of work to do.”
It’s clearly not enough for Dean, who looks like he did that time fifteen years ago when Sam left him behind with Dad.
Before any of the assembled monsters can react, Sam leaves, feeling like a jerk even as he does.
He has Dean’s number, and he is determined to call him soon; just because his brother’s life happens to be a bit... unusual, he won’t cut him out of his again.
Dean surprises him during his lunch break the next day. “Hey, Sammy. Wanna try the best burger in town?”
“Sure” he replies, although normally he’d prefer a salad. But Dean has come, has put himself out there, so he can at least accompany him to where he’s comfortable.
The Roadhouse proves to be exactly the kind of bar Dean loved back when Sam left... with one exception.
“Are they...”
“Ellen and Jo? Amazons. Ellen broke away from her group to actually meet someone and fall in love instead of rearing a man-killer. Her husband’s a pretty cool guy too.”
“I see.”
After a few minutes of silence, Sam admits, “Dean, I – I don’t really – “
“Yeah” he says, “Me neither.”
They laugh.
“It’s... alright, maybe I should start from the beginning.”
And Dean takes a deep breath and tells him how he met his husband.
It’s just another day in the life of Dean. Dad’s already drunk again and has called him three times in the last hour, causing his boss to give him a talk about “appropriate phone time”, Sam is still gone, and Dean has had enough.
He’s about to start screaming at the world, God, and his phone specifically when Cas walks in. He knows immediately he’s a siren. No human could have eyes that blue.
“I’m sorry, but my car appears to have stopped working...”
And that voice too? That was just unfair...
Dean caught himself just in time. Dude was a siren. Maybe he was trying to snare him in?
But when he looked at Dean, his eyes appeared completely normal. “Can you fix it?”
“Let me take a look” he said and smiled.
The siren took a double-take but then smiled back at him.
And Dean was a goner.
“I asked him to marry me right then and there.”
Sam spits his drink. “You didn’t.”
“To be fair, his attraction to me had activated his powers. It took a bit of manoeuvring until we got through that.”
“He said you aren’t affected anymore.”
“Nah. The powers he has are meant to create quick, unimportant feeling so the siren can feed off of them. What we have is the real deal. He tells me has almost forgotten what hunger feels like by now.”
“I’m happy for you, Dean” Sam says, “I truly am. It’s just... the way we were brought up... and you interacting with all these...”
“They’re friends. Some of them are even family. I mean, you could probably try to get rid of Crowley, but I wouldn’t recommend it.”
“I understand. Only... I’m trying to be tolerant. I thought I was. But the blood and the – to an outsider, it looks like you’re insane.”
“We are, just a little bit” Dean concedes, “But most who get to know us – really get to know us – learn to accept that.”
Sam nods, accepting the challenge. “What is that story with Crowley’s mother and the frogs?”
Dean grimaces. “Rowena. She’s a real witch.”
“So she’s a bad demon?”
“No, Sammy” he corrects him, chuckling, “She’s a witch.”
Sam has never been entirely sure those exist. “I see.”
“Oh you don’t. Rowena needs to be seen to be believed.”
“Alright then, I will.”
Dean looks at him. “Sam, you don’t have to. I get that – my life – I love it, but it’s weird. It’s entirely possible I’m a little crazy. But it’s normal for me, and it’s what I chose. I won’t force you to – “
“No – “ he reaches out and grabs Dean’s shoulder. “Dean. I want to get to know you and this life you’ve carved out for yourself. I imagine it hasn’t always been easy.”
Dean smirks. “You have no idea. Some of Cas’ folks... they weren’t too keen on him marrying a human. But it all worked out in the end.”
Sam can only hope it will for them, too.
Ten years later
Sam sleeps in on this Saturday; when he enters the kitchen, only his wife is sitting at the table, nursing her coffee.
“Good morning” he says, kissing Eileen, “Where are the kids?”
“Crowley took them and their cousins to Disneyland for an hour as a treat” she replies, using sign language. She normally doesn’t talk unless she’s had three cups of coffee.
He nods. “You gave him the bronze knife?”
“Yes, the djinn will have no problem with his coming-of-age ceremony now.”
Sam grins. Times have changed. When he and Dean first reconnected, he turned from “that one smartass” to “the one with the weird brother” in his firm. These days? He’s just plain “That’s how the Winchesters work, don’t ask.”
“Oh, also Drew sent an email. He wants to make his next will.”
He’s had Sam draw up ten so far. That’s what happens when you’re a phoenix and never entirely sure when you’re going to burst into flame next.
“I’ll call him later.”
Their next door neighbours stroll in, using their key.
“Hi guys” Dean greets them. “Thought I’d make breakfast for us while the rugrats are out.”
“Sounds good” Sam says.
“Everything Dean creates is good” Cas says, even though he still technically doesn’t need to eat.
“Oh, shush” Dean replies, kissing him. “Anyone up for pancakes?”
And so what if several goblins fly in through open window and out another while Dean walks over to the fridge?
Sam sits down next to his wife and relaxes.
All is well.

Castle of the Black
Part 1: Home
Summary: Your once thriving planet has been taken over by monsters that had once only been creatures of fiction. Now, ten years after the Great Darkness that brought these creatures, you must fight for your life to survive the horrors of the castle of your captor.
Word Count: 1685
Warnings: none yet
A/N: this fic will be pretty dark I think so if you don’t like darker themes, please don’t read this fic!! I’m getting back into the swing of writing regularly. Hope you all enjoy.
Tumblr media
Earth.
It is home to everything that has ever lived. Our histories, our homes, our families….. It is everything we’ve ever known and all we ever will know. For humans at least, given our short lives and easily snuffed out flames.
It was once a thriving place, teeming with life and goodness, but those days of peace had long since disappeared. Now it was dark, filled with danger at every turn, dangers created by the creatures that now wandered this earth with a deep seated hatred for the human race: vampires, werewolves, sirens, mutants, and last of all...demons. The demons. They killed who they wished, whenever they wished it and if anyone challenged them, human or otherwise, they would die too. Demons terrorized the earth and no one was safe.
After the Great Darkness, these creatures were finally able to show their true forms and humans went from the top of the food chain, the hunter so to speak, to the prey. It was open season on humans everywhere, to the point where humans were nearly extinct ten years after the Darkness. Only the most resourceful and cunning of humans survived the onslaught led by the demons and eventually they went into hiding for their own protection, surviving in small gatherings and villages away from the cities that had been overtaken by the inhuman creatures.
This was where you lived now, a small village a few miles west of Olympia, after being driven from your home in Seattle after the Great Darkness. You were only the fourteen when it happened and it had only been a sheer stroke of luck that you’d survived this long. You supposed it hadn’t been just luck though. You were smart, resourceful, strong. You knew the world you lived in and you knew the way it worked; you were a human, weak, fragile, and you knew to never let your pride or rage at the creatures get the better of you because it would mean certain death.
“Y/N! The Ward needs you.” Peter calls out, distracting you from your thoughts. You glance back, your eyes narrowing at him for disrupting your thoughts but he was your friend. A bit young perhaps, he was only sixteen but he was smart, and he was probably the only person you fully and wholeheartedly considered family in this place. You’d found him just after the Great Darkness, also alone and left without a family so you’d sort of adopted each other.
“Alright, I’m on my way.” You call back, getting up from your spot on the rocks beside the small bubbling creek that rested between the dense forests, cutting through the thick brush like an icy sapphire knife. It was your favorite place to be because it gave you an escape from the darkness of the world you’d lived in for ten long years. “What do you think it’s about?” Peter asks when you reach him, his eyebrows furrowed in worry and you knew why. The Ward only called on you when something was wrong and because it had been quiet for a few months now, everyone had been more on edge, thinking that this was the calm before the storm.
“I have no idea. I’m sure it’s fine though.” You reassure him despite the uneasy feeling in your stomach. “Don’t treat me like a kid, Y/N. I know when something’s wrong.” “You’ll always be a kid to me, Pete.” You tease, trying to lighten the mood. “You were only six when I found you. Big ass eyes, too skinny arms.” “Shut up. You’re not that much older than me.” He huffs as he walks beside you. You grin widely at him which draws out a small smile from him in response. “If something's wrong I’ll tell you. I promise.” You say seriously, knowing he’d want you to be straight with him.
You both trek back to the village in silence, both deep in thought as to why the Ward would call on you and the longer you walked, the more sinister your thoughts became and by the time you made it back to the village, your heart was pounding from all the scenarios you’d thought up in your head. When you reach the edge of the village, you swallow to clear the thick lump thats formed in your throat from the stress of your thoughts and split away from Peter, who returns to his tent. You however, continue down the small, makeshift roads you’d help build when you’d first formed this new home towards the Wards tent. You glance behind you to make sure you weren’t followed by a curious ear and shut the tent door quickly before turning to the woman in front of you.
“What is it?” You ask, furrowing your brow intensely. “Another sighting?”
She lets out a shaky breath and looks at you with a haunted gaze.
“We got word from the city today.” She whispers. “They’ve found us.” “Werewolves, vampires…?” You ask urgently. Those you could fight off. Those you could stand a chance against. The Ward looks at you with haunted eyes and then you know. This was a beast you couldn’t fight, only run from and even then you wouldn’t survive long.
“Demons.” You answer your own question in a hushed tone. All the Ward can do is nod, and you realize this is the first time you’ve seen her look so terrified. “We have to warn the others.” You say, glancing outside the mesh window of the tent out to the rest of the makeshift village. “We have to leave.”
“It’s no use. Remember what happened to the village near Winlock?”
“All murdered. Didn’t even last a day.” You murmur with dread filling your stomach like hot lead. “We’re all going to die.” She whispers. “We can fight, okay? We won’t go down without taking a few of the bastards down with us.” You mutter but your words are hollow, even to your own ears. The lucky ones would die quickly but demons were known to kidnap, torture, and abuse the prisoners they took from their villages. You only hoped you would die quickly when the time came. “When will they be here?” “Considering where they were last seen...I’d say they’ll be here by nightfall.” The Ward replies.
“That gives us enough time for us to get the kids out. We can’t save everyone but we can save a few.” You say determinedly. Maybe not all of you would survive this onslaught but at least a few of the others could. The old woman nods in agreement. “I’ll round everyone up.” The rest of the day passes in a blur and you find yourself swallowing your fear every now and then to comfort those around you but to be honest you were terrified. You’d watched your entire family die at the hands of a demon and you had had your fair share of close calls with them over the years. Still, you knew you had to remain calm but you couldn’t help but wonder if each face you saw today would be the last time you’d lay eyes on them.
You sent a group of children away with a few adults to take care of them; your heart broke at the thought of losing them but you knew it was their only chance of survival. Demons showed no mercy, the ruthless bastards.
“We’re gathering around the fire pit, Y/N.” Peter called out to you. You glance up at the sky, the orange and red hues signaling the oncoming sunset and all you could think was how cruel this was, for the earth to be so beautiful yet be the harborer of so much ugliness.
“You coming?” He asks, this time quieter and his tone more concerned than anything else. “Yeah, yeah.” You mutter. You give the horizon one last look, committing it to memory in case tomorrow’s never came for you which was very likely at this point.
You turn and follow Peter to the pit where everyone had assembled, fists clenched tightly around weapons fit to kill lesser monsters than demons. People spoke in hushed voices but no one here was a coward. You knew they would fight and die here rather than be taken prisoner by the demons. There were worse fates than death.
The Ward makes her way to stand atop a cut down tree trunk, waving her hand to get the attention of the villagers that had stayed back to fight. Silence falls over the crowd as every pair of eyes turns to the leader they’d chosen so many years ago.
“Brave ones.” She begins, her voice commanding an authority so few had, and you’re reminded why she was the Ward in the first place. “We stand here on the ground we’ve cultivated and sown for eight years. I’d hoped this day would never come...the day we fight for our lives but it has. I will not create false hope, or give you empty promises but know this.” The wind seems to have stopped whistling through the trees, leaving an eerie silence behind as the Ward looks over the faces before her, no more than seventy men and women, as if she were memorizing all of our faces. “Remember that we are family. If we die tonight, it will be among loved ones.” She finishes quietly. As if the universe was hanging on her every word, the earth goes silent; not a single bird can be heard, nor the high chirp of the squirrels that had always seemed irritating up until now. The sky falls to a darker hue as the sun sets over the mountains you called home and your breath catches because suddenly, it’s no longer silent. But it’s not the animals you hear. No, you hear hoofbeats, getting closer and closer and you close your eyes, knowing what you will see when you open them again.
After a few moments, you open your eyes again. Inches away from your face are bright red eyes and a wicked smile.
The demons had arrived.

blade’s 2k celebration challenge
Holy shit. I’ve nearly hit two thousand followers. I never thought I’d get this far.
To all of you that follow me, thank you so fucking much. It means a lot to see your comments and likes and reblogs on the things that I write. It gives me butterflies knowing that you all like my shit.
To celebrate this milestone, I’ve decided to come up with a challenge for my fellow writers.
Under the cut are a list of prompts/songs/words/quotes/sentences etc etc. If you like a certain one and would like to write it, please let me know so I can mark it off the list! They can be made nsfw if you want to write it that way, but please mark it as so! These can be written for any Marvel character!!
Please! Tag me in your works! Or use #BladeHits2KChallenge
(Some of these ideas are not my own, and all credit goes to the one who came up with it. And yes, I realize I haven’t hit two thousand yet, but I wanted to let people get a head start and then I will come up with a deadline after I hit 2K.)

Witch Au Fic Rec
The Sweetest Incantation 40k
Harry has been alive for decades, and yet he’s never been as confused and dumbfounded. He’s a witch, for God’s sake. Can’t get much weirder than all the magical things he’s experienced throughout his lifetime. Never in a million years, however, would he have expected to be mere inches away from a hybrid.
Or: Harry is a witch who’s still working on developing his powers and Louis is a werecat who falls into his life and turns it upside down.
love is divine 25k
Being a witch doesn’t help when it comes to unrequited love.
you’ve got this spell on me (everything you do is magic) ˜3k
Harry accidentally turns Louis into a cat. He doesn’t know how he’s going to fix it, but he does know he’d better do so before he has to deal with Louis’s wrath.
come on, jump out at me 7k
(first one of the domestic monsters series)
Harry is a witch from a long line of power, an ancient line that’s one of the strongest left alive in their hemisphere. He can cast spells without a word if need be, fly on a broomstick, and has a black cat (a kitten, really) named Felix that is his animal familiar. He can shape galaxies in his cupped hands and can destroy them just as easily. He can choose exactly how to use his power, for encouragement and support, or for more nefarious causes if he wishes to.
And as fate would have it, he’s scared of haunted houses.
(Harry is a witch who carries around a stuffed pumpkin, Louis is a vampire with too much time on his hands, and their best mates Zayn & Niall aren’t exactly what they seem…)
wherever you are is the place i belong 10k
(second one of the domestic monsters series)
So a witch, a vampire, a werewolf, and a siren all move into a house together… It’s not a joke, it’s Harry Styles’ life, but sometimes it feels that way.
(Niall and Zayn get jobs, Harry cleans out his feelings, and Louis learns some very interesting things about one of his new flatmates…)
spaces between us hold all our secrets ˜20k
(third one of the domestic monsters series)
The house in Greater Gloomingshire just gets stranger and stranger: Mysterious comings and goings, sneaky glances, and secrets that nobody seems willing to share. Yet.
(Zayn threatens Louis with bodily harm, Niall wolfs out, and when it comes to investigating his flatmates, Detective Harry is on the case!)
i wanna reach out for you (i wanna break these walls) 31k
(fourth one of the domestic monsters series)
The wolf’s out of the bag, the witch is out of the broom closet, the siren’s out of the ocean, and the vampire’s out of the…coffin? Everybody knows about everybody now, but it’s not always so easy, rooming with the supernatural.
(the household shifts and changes, Detective Harry is on the case again, and Louis has to come to terms with who he wants to be.)
if i didn’t have you, i’d never see the sun 16k
(fifth one of the domestic monsters series)
Everything changes when you have a roommate who doesn’t Get It.
(Liam has trouble with inanimate objects, Harry blows things up, Niall is a brat, and Louis finally talks about his life B.V. - Before Vampirism.)
you will find me in places that we’ve never been 12k
(sixth one of the domestic monsters series)
1313 Willow Wisp Lane has seen many things over the course of its long life as a house, but never has it seen a surprise party consisting of an undead king, a witch who can conjure sunlight, a werewolf who doubles as a pastry chef, and a mystery.
(Louis reveals more about his past, Harry makes it rain, Niall makes food, and everyone wonders about Liam.)
i’ll make this feel like home 42k
(seventh one of the domestic monsters series)
It’s St. Patrick’s Day at the house in Greater Gloomingshire….in September.
(Liam’s “secret” is revealed, Zayn returns, Niall eats some cupcakes, while Harry and Louis both have to face the past - and the future.)
when the wolves come out 62k
(eighth one of the domestic monsters series)
Halloween is swiftly approaching; now, if only they could enjoy it.
(Gemma comes to visit, the crows may or may not be spies, and a spirit is laid to rest.)
we will find a way through the dark 31k (wip)
(ninth one of the domestic monsters series)
Louis is tired of running and Harry’s got his back.
(Harry sort-of exorcises a ghost, a Mustang is destroyed, and Louis discovers travel by mirror is not at all what it’s cracked up to be.
Far Afield 11k
(part 1)
Harry Styles is a witch who owns the best flower shop in Manchester. Lottie Tomlinson is planning her wedding, and brings her brother along to her first appointment. Both men have been having a bad day and sparks fly.
Suited for You 4k
(part 2)
“Louis Tomlinson, you have had that suit for almost ten years. It is time to get a new one, and it is time to get a good one.” Unfortunately, he could tell his mother wouldn’t budge. The discussion was over. They said goodbye, and Louis immediately dialed his sister Lottie.
She picked up straight away, “You have to get the suit, Lou.”
“Argh!” Louis yelled, hanging up on her. He missed his old flip phone, hanging up on someone was so much more satisfying.
Louis’ family convinces him that he needs a new suit for some upcoming special events in his life.
It’s All Been Done (Before) 17k
Lilo
Zayn isn’t normal for two reasons. One, he’s a warlock. Two, he’s Crown Prince of said warlocks. Witches too, actually. Not Wizards though. Those imbeciles give magic a bad name. Especially the one named Liam. He’s particularly awful. It’s too bad that they end up falling in love.
Through centuries of war, revolution, art and innovation; Zayn tries to stay away from Liam, until he can’t
Bewitched 160k
“So what’s your problem, mister?”
“I’m married to a witch.” says Louis, disbelievingly, shaking his head slightly, swirling the ice around in his shot glass. “My spouse is a witch.”
“Cheer up.“ says the Bartender "You should see my wife.”
Louis doubts that his wife is a real spell-casting, cloak-wearing, cauldron stirring, witch, like his new husband, Harry.
But, Louis suspects that nothing could surprise him anymore. Not Harry’s magical friends, not his literally disappearing sister or even the way that Harry’s able to clean a kitchen in 2 seconds.
Louis had always thought that Harry was charming, he just didn’t know how much.
Adaption of the hysterical and wonderful 1960’s tv show, starring, of course, 1D; each chapter is self contained within the universe.
Spellbound 62k (wip)
Louis Tomlinson leads a charmed life. Not because of his good job, nice house or the fact that he’s happily married; despite all those things being true.
No, Louis lives a charmed life because of the fact that his best friends, in laws and (perfect) husband all happen to be magical beings.
And just as he’s getting used to things like his sister in law literally popping in unannounced, or watching his husband turn people into animals, a new bundle of joy arrives and throws a wrench into the works.
But, you know what? Louis wouldn’t have it any other way.
Sequel to Bewitched
a long way down (to the bottom of the river) 24k
“ Most people would call Harry silly for believing in curses. Childish would also be a probable insult thrown his way. In their little town full of little people, Harry’s whimsical nature and beliefs mean that he’s subjected to frequent judgemental looks and whispers. It doesn’t usually bother him. Most people don’t know about the magic thrumming through his veins or about how powerful words can truly be. Most people don’t carry around their ancestors grief like a burden. They don’t have to pay for deeds hundreds of years old like Harry and his family have. They get to love freely without fear.
Harry and his kin aren’t so lucky.”
a practical magic au in which Harry and his sister accidentally kill her abusive boyfriend with magic and Louis is the D.I working the case.
wash him deep where the tides are turning 3k
"When Harry finally tells Louis about his family’s curse and the true love spell that broke it, they’ve been dating for seven months, nineteen days and about twelve hours and Louis’ cock is buried deep inside his arse.”
Part two of a practical magic au.
taken by the wind 8k
When he decided to move to London with his sister, Harry thought he would finally get to learn how to control his magic. He couldn’t possibly have predicted that he would fall for her neighbour.
Or the one where Harry is a clumsy witch and Louis is making everything worse just by existing.
baby, we could be enough 3k
ot5
A few weeks later, they’ve finally begun to settle in, and it’s time for Liam’s first in-home transformation.
He’s dreading it.
Keep Me In Your Pocket 3k
Louis has been living in a teapot since he was miniaturised by a witch, but Harry is determined to break the curse.
take a sip from my secret potion (falling in love) 6k
After running away to Pendle, Louis is being haunted by some angry spirits, and so he seeks solace in Worst Witch Harry Styles. Louis is looking for a potion to fix his problems, but the answer may be a bit simpler than that.
Nocturnal Creatures Are Not So Prudent 24k
Witch!Louis
Louis spins a finger in midair, like he’s indicating someone to turn around, staring pointedly at Liam as the faucet turns itself on and the can rinses itself in the sink behind him. Liam, moon burn him, doesn’t rise to the bait, choosing instead to lean back on his stool and wrapping his hands around his own mug.
“Anyway, like I was saying and that you were ignoring, there’s this new club near my school and I want you to go with me. Could do you some good, getting out once in awhile.”
Louis is a white witch with a little black cat named Hemlock and a best human friend Liam (they’re a lot like Samantha Stephens and Louise Tate). When he’s dragged out to a new club Liam’s heard about from a friend and classmate, Louis comes face to face with that which witches do not touch: a charming vampire by the name of Harry.
Everything You Do Is Magic 5k
October is a month of magic. Most carry on with their lives thinking that leaves change color from science and that the pumpkins no one has seen growing all year actually came from the ground. But others know the truth. That some possess the power to create life and take it away. Harry was one of those people.
(or the one where Harry and Zayn are witches, Liam and Louis are new in town, Niall may or may not be magic, and Harry thinks nothings better than the feeling of magic, till something is)
Try Refusing A Million Times (But You’re in Love) 16k
Harry’s a witch selling tea and sweets in The Umbrella, a shop he and his best mate Niall have just opened. But on ‘Official Opening Day’ he runs into Louis, and there the chaos ensues when Harry’s magic trickles into Louis. With Niall and Zayn at his side, it’s a regular quest for love: either Harry gets his magic back from the forbidden Louis whose dating Liam, or he performs a dark ritual on himself to save himself from Louis’ madness that he most certainly will not survive

First of all, I love Jacky’s picture!  Welcome to another Interview with the Vam…Author!  Actually, it’s an interview with a Vampire Author.  How cool is that?
I met Jacky through twitter, and she was splendid enough to contact me and interview me on her blog.  I’ve been on this quest to be a good cheerleader for other writers/authors/creatives, so of course I just had to have her over on my blog, too!  Since I like to have read a book or two by another author before an interview, I read the prequel, Releasing a Vampire, to her Suckers series.
It’s a short book that gives some background, and I found it a delight to read, and an appetizer that made me want to read more!  Do you love a bitingly good read?  Then check out her series!
  #gallery-0-5 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-5 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Now that you’ve had a moment to get your Goodreads on, let’s get to know Jacky!
Introduce yourself.  Name.  Nickname.
My parents never gave me a middle name, so my full first name is Jacqueline. It was shortened by my mother to Jacky, not Jackie as she didn’t know Jacky was the male version, so I got stuck with it. I have dual nationality, Dutch and Australian, and hence two passports, and in each I have a different surname. Huisman is my maiden/Dutch name, Dahlhaus is my husband’s/Australian name. My husband has a nickname for me, but I’m not going to share that
Tumblr media
. I have been called Little Red Head Girl, after the  girl in the Snoopy cartoon, by a good friend of mine.
If your Wi-Fi name was a reflection of you, what would it be?
My Wi-Fi name would probably be Little_Red_Head_Girl. It’s rather appropriate even though the red comes out of a packet
Tumblr media
What personality trait has gotten you into the most trouble?
I got into most trouble for my fantastic ability to do things before thinking them over. I’ll not go into detail of that as it’s too embarrassing! Some of it makes me write from experience which comes in handy now and again.
What genre (of collection) do you write in and why?
I write paranormal romances because I like romance, dragons, vampires, etc., and happy endings. I love being in love, I love being happy. There’s too much misery in the world already, so I don’t want to read about that in fiction. I’d just watch the news if I wanted doom and gloom. That said, I like to put my characters through heart-wrenching experiences. Only because the happy endings are the happier for it, of course. This is scientifically proven. I don’t stick to a single category, like the US publishers prefer, as I think that’s too boring. I like to mix and match
Tumblr media
Who is important to you?
My family are important to me. My kids, my husband, my mother and sisters and their family. We used to live in Australia, but we came back (well, Scotland was the closest to Holland we could get), so we can visit them more often.
Where do you call home?
Home is where my heart is. This could be anywhere in the world! I’ve moved sixteen times and lived in Australia, France, England, The Netherlands, and now Scotland. But I’m happiest with my close family; my husband and kids. They are my world.
What books are/have you written?
I’ve finished the Suckers trilogy which comprises four books: Releasing A Vampire (the prequel, a novelette), Living Like A Vampire (Book 1), Raising A Vampire (book 2), and Killing A Vampire (book 3). It also has two short stories (Interlude and The Wedding) that only my newsletter readers have received. I’ve also written two short story bundles, Short Shockers Volume 1 & 2 (Volume 2 isn’t out yet, but my newsletter readers received it as a Christmas present). I’ve also won entry in a horror anthology, called Twisted50 Volume 2, with one of my short stories (Rumour has it…) that I wrote while with the local writers’ club. I’m currently working on my fourth novel, called The Stranger. It’s a YA novel which is going to be the first of a trilogy again, and very likely of a bigger set of four trilogies. It has witches, werewolves, sirens, zombies, and shapeshifters in it, i.e. a lot of fun!
If you are having a rotten day, what do you do to conquer that?
When life truly sucks (which thankfully is rare lately), I prefer to stay in bed and sleep to get the day over as soon as possible. If I can’t stay in bed, I eat my frustration away. I know I shouldn’t, and I know it’s not helping making me feel better in the long run, but that instant gratification is all that matters in that moment… When I still lived at home, I would play the piano. I’d start with loud, angry music and work my way to Morning Mood by Edvard Grieg (the simple version, I’m not that good). Music has always been an outlet for me, either playing or listening.
If you were invisible for a day, what would you do?
Hmm, good question. No idea. Probably the same as I normally do; stay at home and write
Tumblr media
Your life is made into a musical.  What is the title of at least one of the songs?
I’m not sure about songs (I hate musicals), but if it was a movie, it would be called ‘The Boring Life of Jacky H.’ That was actually the title I gave one of my diaries, a most interesting read
Tumblr media
What are your sleeping habits?
As much as possible! LOL! No, that’s history. I used suffer for years from Pheiffer’s Disease/glandular fever. They say you can only have it for six months, but that’s BS. I’m still not a morning person, but I have a wonderful husband who has learned that life is better for everybody if I get a cup of coffee before I get out of bed
Tumblr media
. His alarm goes at 8:30 am, but I only get out of bed at about 9-9:30 am. Usually, I stay up until midnight. If I had a bad night (I sometimes wake up with night sweats or anxiety attacks), I may fall asleep late afternoon and do a power nap.
What would you name your boat?
I don’t want a boat; too much work, commitment, and repetition. It also means I would have to get out. So if I had one, it would probably be called ‘Hell No.’
What’s your biggest kitchen disaster?
I once burnt something in the over to a nice, black crisp. I can’t remember what it was. Not sure if that’s because it wasn’t recognizable anymore
Tumblr media
Tell me about one of your characters.  Would you get along in real life?
Aargh! Only one??? Okay, Kate is my MC in the Suckers trilogy. She’s a short, red-haired, impatient woman. Yes, she’s very much like me. And no, we wouldn’t get along in real life as she would have no patience for my bouts of procrastination and general laziness
Tumblr media
If you were arrested with no explanation, what would your friends and family assume you had done?
Speeding. I’ve never been arrested in my life, but I’ve been caught speeding twice. Never in Scotland, and certainly not as often as my husband. But driving for me is to get from A to B in the fastest, most efficient way (I even maximise my efficiency of getting a coffee from the kitchen, with combined tasks so I don’t have to walk somewhere twice). This means driving at maximum speed and preferably a few miles/km’s over (but just under the radar). The first time I got caught driving too fast was on a Sunday morning on the freeway to pick up my sister from the airport. There were about six cars behind me, egging me on, and I was the only one pulled over. Still fuming about that. The second time I got photographed from the back as I didn’t know they could catch cars driving away.
What are your favorite clothes to wear?
Nothing! Unfortunately, Scotland is too cold for that. At the moment my two favorite shirts are black, long-sleeved gothic shirt with bloodied roses on my bosom. One of them has wide sleeves, but they’re very unhandy packing the dishwasher. I’m thinking of wearing long skirts as my ass is getting to fat for my jeans, but I’m still in two minds about that.
If someone asked to be your apprentice and learn all that you know, what would they end up learning?
A hell of a lot! I have been a veterinarian, a highschool science teacher, and an office manager. I know how to trim dogs, make cheese twists (in a factory setting), make chainmail, string pearls, do photography, knit, crochet, sew, draw, paint (woodwork, not pictures), put double glazing in sash windows, repair old plaster with horsehair, creating a website. They’d learn Dutch, English, a bit of German and French, understanding Spanish, and the basics of CSS. They would learn perseverance, tenacity, and keeping your eye on your goal. They’d learn what it is to fall in love and how to keep being in love. They won’t learn any cooking or having patience from me. I suck at those. Oh, and they’d learn how to write novels, of course. Nearly forgot about that!
Tumblr media
What are your future writing plans?
Well, my WIP was supposed to be the first of a single trilogy again, but I’ve just decided that the MC in it is a witch queen of one of the classical elements. So I’ve got three more trilogies to write about the queens of the other elements. That will keep me busy for the years to come
Tumblr media
What’s one thing you absolutely adore in life?
Writing! Like I mentioned before, I used to sleep a lot, but writing is the one reason I come out of bed every day. It gives me a freedom I don’t have in normal life. I can go where I like, when I like, how I like, with whom I like. What is not to love about that? And I meet a lot of wonderful people through my writing whom I’ve never would have met otherwise (like you, Amy!). Other authors, readers, artists, interviewers; all wonderful people. I have two personalities; one that is a terrible introvert, and one that loves people. Sometimes, I let my people-loving person out to keep her happy
Tumblr media
What is one of your pet peeves?
I have two big ones: people who don’t drive the maximum speed, and writers who don’t care about their writing (grammar & punctuation).
You’re in the middle of a wizarding duel.  What animal do you transfigure into?
My first thought was a black panther. I have always appreciated how graciously deadly they are.  But since it’s a wizarding duel, I’ll probably change into a black dragon. I love dragons. Did you watch the movie ‘I am Dragon’? It’s beautiful! And romantic, terribly romantic. But the graphics are great too. I believe >90% is CG. I can appreciate that as I make my own covers and know how much work goes into CG.
Would you survive if you were a character in your own books?
Probably not. I can’t run if my life depended on it! Once caught, the suckers may let me live because I love life, though, just as they let Kate live, and we’re sort of the same (fingers crossed they’ll go for that).
You are putting on a dinner party.  What do you serve and who do you invite?
At the moment I would rather die than to have a dinner party in my own home. As we’re renovating, the house resembles a building site, and I don’t want to do this to my guests. Once the renovations are done, I would probably serve whatever my husband cooked/bought (I’m not a kitchen pricess). Who would I invite? If I could invite fictional persons, it would be Tom, from Killing A Vampire, and Lord Vetenari, from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels. Tom is just handsome and cheeky, and Lord Vetenari basically is as well, but on a more intelligent level (not sure about the being handsome part
Tumblr media
).
Would you rather relive the same day for 365 days or lose a year of your life?
Definitely lose a year! I’m not one for doing something over and over again. Some people may think that writing is just that, but, boy, are they wrong!
You are transported to one of your favorite books.  Where are you?
Pern! I’d love to be a dragonrider. Did I mention I love dragons?
Tumblr media
Let’s go dragon riding some day!  Thanks so much, Jacky!  It was fun to get to know you better, and I got a good laugh more than once from your answers!  Be sure to check out her website below.  Also, I want a picture tour of her home.  Can I request that?  :o)
Jacky Dahlhaus has worked many jobs and tried many hobbies before she realized writing gave her such pleasure. She loves to write paranormal fantasy stories while delving into the human psyche with all its faults and mysteries.
Next to writing novels, Jacky helps indie authors by promoting them on her blog, writes an online newsletter, runs writing clubs (for adults and for children) at the local library, and is a director for Aberdeenshire Film Productions. She runs Folla Fiction Publishing (follafiction.com) to help authors make their books the best they can be.
When not busy with the above (which is rare nowadays), Jacky works on renovating her Scottish Victorian home, watches movies with her family, and tries to stop her two Jack Russells from barking for no good reason.
Live Bravely Love Strongly AEM
Interview with the Author: Jacky Dahlhaus First of all, I love Jacky's picture!  Welcome to another Interview with the Vam...Author!  Actually, it's an interview with a Vampire Author.

Finale thoughts
As always with this series there were a fair share of easy fixes and plotholes in this season and the last episode, but despite that, I did enjoy it. It’s really hard to end a series in general - unless it’s something like Breaking Bad where you can get away with a dark and twisty ending -, ending it on a little bit corny happy what’s-become-of-them is pretty much a given. I hated it, but I also loved it. It was the only way to go.
As I previously mentioned as well, given that they had a shortened season, you would think they’d try to wrap up things rather than create new storylines, which was a bit of a downfall. Way too much time spent on the sirens (who, fair enough, introduced the hell storyline, but it wasn’t really that important that they were sirens), and not enough time spent trying to bring Stefan back from his ripper ways  (in the past they’ve spent months and years trying to make things right, and they only gave Stefan a few weeks) and then not enough time for him to come to terms with being human. A great, wasted storyline.
Katherine: I understand that they wanted to show everyone one last time and I’m willing to bite, it just wasn’t executed that well. First of all, hell was supposed to go down with the devil (Cade) and not produce another devil - and even if we bite that ‘Kai was a trickster’, surely Katherine couldn’t have been worse than the real devil. That said, I do think Katherine started out as a good human and wasn’t all bad as a vampire, but she did end up being genuinely evil and her death was fitting.  Matt: I thought he was a bit of a meeh character and he got a bit of meeh ending, so a full circle. I also don’t think that Vicky and Tyler scene meant that they were together, it was just to show that they were looking over him Ric: Look, I didn’t like the dude, but he is a teacher to his core with a ridiculous amount of supernatural experience and witchy kids, so a supernatural school was actually such a good ending, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it myself. Bonnie (and Enzo): I felt this was a bit of a meeh as well. I’m glad she ‘saved the world’ and the Bennet witches scene was really good, but then I didn’t like how they magically found a loophole in the ‘no loopholes’ Elena spell. I assume it was the twins’ good luck scene, but still - it is just too convenient of an ending and so out of the blue and unexplained that I definitely would’ve preferred them to stick to what they said and that only one of them can live. Also, I initially got the impression that Enzo still stayed with her, but after talking to some friends, they suggested that he was the same as the ‘other dead’, which I can live with, because if he’d stay with her forever, how can she move on? Speaking of moving on, they never really did say if she got her powers back or if she could only channel them through others. And did she use them ever? What happened after travelling? I felt it was a bit left in the air with Bonnie.  Caroline: Similarly to Bonnie, it was left in the air, but at least with Caroline we can pretty much assume she will appear on The Originals at some point to carry on from there. We didn’t really find out what she was going to do at all, other than to help to open the Boarding School. Elena: I’ve never liked her and I wasn’t a huge fan at all that it ended up being her story though it started with Stefan (voiceover), but overall I am happy with the cliche ending that she got and always wanted Damon: I think he got a good ending. He did grow over the 8 seasons, much of that in the last few episodes, and he did it because of Stefan. He became a good person when he became a good brother, which they touched on a little bit and that does come a full circle for him. He made the wrong choice with Katherine when he chose her over Stefan and he made it right by choosing Stefan over Elena now. I’d like to think that though he had the life with Elena he always wanted, he carried Stefan with him until the end of his days, worrying whether he found peace and whether he himself would find it and would it be with Stefan. I also think Stefan’s death gave his life meaning and the courage not to run away when things got hard (with being human, with Elena) or fight the urge to be bad - because then his death would’ve been in vain. And I absolutely loved the final scene, cause the way Ian played it was as if though he had had a good life, all he really wanted was to see his brother again (you and me for all eternity) Stefan: First of all, I don’t think either one of them needed to die. First of all, because of the execution of it. He could’ve just jumped out of the fire (and why couldn’t Katherine fight of the human Stefan in the first place) and also why make Damon human (assuming that the syringe just magically takes the cure and not the blood - what happens if a cured vampire wants to be a blood donor?) if he didn’t even know if Elena could be woken up? Why not just inject vervain and leave the blood aside to the time she does wake - if she hadn’t, Damon may have died before she woke? And secondly, I don’t buy any of the guilt BS. Everyone had forgiven him for what he had done as a vampire and he was no longer one, so to die for that reason just sounds stupid. To die to give Damon the life he deserved sounds better, but again, why couldn’t have that been delayed by 60 years? But if one of them did have to die, Stefan was the right brother. It was first of all his story and his death would bring it to its end. He was always the martyr and I think it’s more likely that Damon could carry on without Stefan than Stefan without Damon. Stefan’s death gave Damon’s life meaning whereas Damon’s death would’ve scrapped Stefan from his. And though it is sad he never got his life with Caroline, it was doomed from the start. They would’ve had a few good years, maybe even a decade, but Caroline would’ve still been and wanted to be a vampire and she would’ve been happy with just raising the twins, but Stefan has always wanted kids of his own, and with Ric around, the twins would’ve never been truly his. He would’ve grown older and started to want different things in life, he could’ve never grown old with the person he loved. So after some years, that marriage would’ve crumbled anyway, so at least this way, they ended on a high note.
Overall The overall episode I think was really good minus the few plot holes. I absolutely love that it ended on Defan as it should’ve, I’m just sad that they didn’t get voiceovers in the end. I also wish that they would’ve given us more of a reaction when Stefan steps into the fire from Damon’s side - they never really got a goodbye. I think they finally became people who were happy with their lives and finally on good terms with the other, so it’s sad that they never got to live that life together, but I guess that makes the final scene all the more bittersweet. I didn’t realise Stefan was dead in the hallway scene, so when Lexi appeared I just gasped and started bawling and the friend who I was watching it with and I had a little devastated hand holding moment. We definitely bonded. And the scene where Damon strokes the tombstone and then THAT SONG plays (hold on, I still need you) - I honestly almost died. Also, did Elena and Damon die at the same time then? And are the rest alive for the time being cause we didn’t see their afterlives? It did leave up a few questions, but also tied up things and it was a beautiful heartbreaking ending and most characters were done justice (honestly, I wish the ‘Stefan deserved better’ and ‘Caroline is friends with he rapist’ warriors would calm down a bit. I, too, wish Stefan would’ve lived, but he died a relatively fitting death that made sense with his character and the story and yeah Damon did abuse Caroline with the mind control (though it is never stated (or shown with her or anyone) that Damon’s compelled girls to actually have sex with him) and I agree that it’s awful etc - but in the story world it was like 10 years ago, and they’ve grown and gone through so much more than an average person ever will and they found ways to live with and forgive each other, and I personally think it’s nice that they had each other to lean on after Stefan’s death). I also think most of you are too harsh on Julie. I completely agree that there were lots of plotholes and recycling storylines and her bias towards Ian was too obvious, but she’s actually worked herself up (percentage wise, not many people become producers and not for something this successful) and of course she would have her own bias, as do we all, and she just slipped every now and again, but it doesn’t maker her stupid or an awful person. Also, she is not the only person coming up with the ideas, writing or greenlighting them - it’s a whole team, she’s just the only person whose name you know. Overall, she did a good job.
It was time for it to end, but this series will always be in my heart. Gone, but never forgotten!

Arplis - News: 30 Best Kindle Unlimited Romance Books Available Right Now
If you’re new to Kindle Unlimited, here’s your chance! Amazon is offering a free 2-month subscription to new customers, giving you access to thousands of ebook and audiobooks. Below is a 30-strong list of some of the best Kindle Unlimited romance books I’ve read. I’ve divided them up by subcategory of romance, and tried to spotlight many brilliantly-written, lesser-known books which deserve your attention. As of writing, they’re all available on KU.
Book descriptions are taken from Amazon, but for some books I particularly enjoyed I’ve added extra notes. It’s worth saying here that Amazon are very generous with their free KU subscriptions. I got a whopping six-month one back in 2018, three months in 2019, and I’ve just taken them up on another one-month trial they (inexplicably) offered me. Worth it!
Best Kindle Unlimited Romance Books: Fantasy Romance
#1. Red Winter (Red Winter #1) by Annette Marie
Emi is the kamigakari. In a few short months, her life as a mortal will end, and her new existence as the human host of a goddess will begin. Carefully hidden from those who would destroy her, she has prepared her mind, body, and soul to unite with the goddess – and not once has she doubted her chosen fate.
Shiro is a yokai, a spirit of the earth, an enemy of the goddess Emi will soon host. Mystery shrouds his every move, and his ruby eyes shine with cunning she can’t match and dares not trust. But she saved his life, and until his debt is paid, he is hers to command – whether she wants him or not. On the day they meet, everything Emi believes comes undone, swept away like snow upon the winter wind. For the first time, she wants to change her fate – but how can she erase a destiny already wrought in stone? Against the power of the gods, Shiro is her only hope…and hope is all she has left.
[I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS SERIES ENOUGH. It’s a beautifully rendered fantasy world grounded in Japanese mythology, with a breathtaking romance and incredible plot. Technically YA but absolutely don’t let that put you off. I’d also recommend Marie’s Guild Codex: Demonized series, a new adult paranormal series available on KU.]

#2. Zodiac Academy: The Awakening (Supernatural Bullies and Beasts #1) by Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti
What happens to the students who anger the cold-blooded Dragon Shifter, vicious Vampire, black-hearted Werewolf and cruel Siren who run this school?
They pay in blood. But what’s that got to do with me? A helluva a lot more than I’d like…
I just discovered I’m a Fae with unspeakable power, an heir to an entire kingdom, and a threat to those four ruthless supernaturals who are also in line to rule this world.  And I’m a twin. So she’s damned to the same fate too.
They want to hurt us. They want to break us. And they’ll stop at nothing to make us bow at their feet.
My Gemini sign meant little to me until now, but the stars rule this world. They define my Elemental magic, determine my nature and twist my will. But I’ve never bought into daily horoscopes, so I’m not gonna start now. I’ll determine my own fate. And I’m here for one thing and one thing alone: the inheritance my royal parents left in their wake.
There’s just one catch…
We have to graduate before it’s given to us. So until then, the heirs won’t stop fighting to get rid of us. And I have the awful feeling they don’t just want us gone, they want us dead.
[While it’s not quite Harry Potter, this is an insanely fun New Adult enemies-to-lovers romance which has wonderfully assertive heroines and great world-building. Another trope it features is teacher-student romance – the student is 18 – if you’re into that!]
#3. Stolen (Alpha’s Control #1) by Addison Cain
No one will take what’s his…
The Commodore stole her off the streets in broad daylight—the first Omega female discovered in Bernard Dome in generations. He took her with violence while none intervened. He broke her, swearing he’d put her back together.
Brenya Perin was ordered to submit.
Bernard Dome is the jewel of Europe, a bastion of art and culture, pleasure and decadence. But life in the city depends on the occupation chosen for you at birth. There is no subversion, no question of who rules. There is no freedom. And there is no interference from foreign Domes… until a new threat arrives from a distant continent. Shepherd’s right hand man, Jules.
Peace has a price, a price the Commodore of Bernard Dome is willing to pay… so long as the rare Omega remains his.
[This is technically a sequel series to Cain’s bestselling Born to Be Bound books, but I prefer it to that series and it can be read as a standalone. It’s a dark, scorching Omegaverse romance featuring total power exchange, disturbing but incredibly memorable. For a few more details on Cain’s background and Omegaverse in general, click here.]
#4. Trickery (Curse of the Gods #1) by Jaymin Eve & Jane Washington
Willa Knight: Dweller. Slave. Non-magical being.
In Minatsol, being a dweller means that you are literally no better than dirt. In fact, dirt might actually be more useful than Willa. Her life will be one of servitude to the sols, the magic-blessed beings who could one day be chosen to become gods.
At least her outer village is far removed from the cities of the sols, and she won’t ever be forced to present herself to them… Until one small mistake changes everything, and Willa is awarded a position to serve at Blesswood, the top sol academy in the world—a position that she definitely did not earn.
Under the sudden, watchful eye of the gods, she will be tasked to serve the Abcurse brothers, five sols built of arrogance, perfection and power. They are almost gods themselves, and under their service she is either going to end up sentenced to death, or else they are going to ruin her so badly that she will wish for it.
Either way, she is in trouble.
[An absolutely hilarious series; I love how it actively undermines a lot of romance cliches. Note: the heroine ends up with more than one hero. See here for a fuller explanation. The series straddles the line between YA and NA, becoming more explicit in later books.]
#5. Air and Ash (Tides #1) by Alex Lidell
After a lifetime of training, seventeen-year-old Princess Nile Greysik, a lieutenant on the prestigious Ashing navy flagship, sails into battle with one vital mission—and fails.
Barred from the sea and facing a political marriage, Nile masquerades as a common sailor on the first ship she can find. With a cowardly captain, incompetent crew, and a cruel, too-handsome first officer intent on making her life a living hell, Nile must hide her identity while trying to turn the sorry frigate battleworthy. Worse, a terrifying and forbidden magic now tingles in Nile’s blood. If anyone catches wind of who Nile is or what she can do, her life is over.
But when disaster threatens the ship, Nile may have no choice but to unleash the truth that will curse her future.
[Astonishingly good world-building and a deeply satisfying romance. Reminscient of Tamora Pierce. This one is YA.]
#6. Wicked Ugly Bad (A Kinda Fairytale #1) by Cassandra Gannon
Scarlett Riding is NOT an ugly stepsister. Cinderella is the evil one in the family and Letty is determined to prove it. Unfortunately, that’s kinda hard to do from behind bars. After the debacle at the ball, Letty and her sister Dru were dragged off to the Wicked, Ugly and Bad Mental Health Treatment Center and Maximum Security Prison. While Cindy’s planning her dream wedding, her two stepsisters are being forced to endure life in the dreariest dungeon in the land.
Luckily, Letty has a plan to change that unhappy ending. If she can just get to Prince Charming and prove the glass slipper doesn’t fit Cinderella’s foot, she can reclaim her life. In order to do that, though, she needs to convince The Big Bad Wolf to lend a hand in organizing a jailbreak.
Marrok Wolf isn’t sure what to make of the idealistic redhead in his group therapy sessions. With fifty counts of Badness on his criminal record, Marrok’s used to being surrounded by crooks and scumbags. Scarlett wants to lecture him about equal rights for trolls! When the little do-gooder comes up with an elaborate plan to break their entire “share circle” out of prison, though, Marrok is certainly willing to go along with the plot. And not just because he wants to see her naked. The woman may not be wicked, ugly, or Bad, but she’s definitely the only one who can save him.
Together with a wicked witch, a timid bridge ogre, an evil prince, and other villains straight out of a storybook, Scarlett and Marrok are about to make sure that Baddies finally have a happily ever after.
[A wonderfully funny adult spin on Little Red Riding Hood, and one of the best romances anywhere – let alone KU. Gannon deserves a lot more attention than she gets.]
#7. Land of the Beautiful Dead by R. Lee Smith
He ascended from the darkness years ago—Azrael the Eternal, Azrael the Undying, Azrael Who Is Death—bringing with him the black rains, the fires, the souring of the sky, and the Eaters. Now he rules in the walled city of Haven with his favored Children and his dead court, while all that is left of the living struggles to survive in the ruins of a world that used to be their own. But even as extinction looms, humanity will never surrender to their monstrous conqueror.
For Lan, this brutal life has been the only one she’s ever known, but she still believes it can change. If the war can never truly end until the Eaters are ended, she will go to Haven, to Azrael himself, and demand he end them. To her surprise, she does not immediately die the hero’s death she expected. Instead, Azrael offers her a chance to convince him, and all she has to do is submit herself to the chill embrace of the lord of the Land of the Beautiful Dead.
[This book is very hard to describe. It’s part psychological horror, part dystopian romance, part fantasy. I have never read a hero like this one. It’s very long, and not a feel-good book, but so unforgettable that I return compulsively. Hands-down one of the best Kindle Unlimited romance books out there.]
Best Kindle Unlimited Romance Books: Paranormal Romance
#8. The Baker’s Guide to Risky Rituals (Sweet Pea Mysteries #1) by Kathryn Moon
Josie Benoit, gourmet patissier and kitchen witch, may not be a Sweet Pea native but she’s made the small town her home and she intends on keeping it that way. When trouble rolls into town on the seats of shining motorcycles, and the safety of her home and her own reputation are put at risk, Josie bands together with her coven to protect her world from a dark influence.
If only that dark influence wasn’t so deliciously handsome.
King Beleth is not a demon to be trifled with. Leader of the Hell’s Bells MC and one of the great warlords of the Bowels, Beleth takes pride in his work and has the patience of a… man who knows what is best is worth waiting for. Known as Bell—to his friends, which you are not—he’s come to Sweet Pea to dismantle the core of good at the heart of the little town. But upon arrival he discovers three things that might just get in the way of his work:
Sweet Pea is more disgustingly adorable than they were warned. The town has a coven of witches protecting it. He’s developing a sweet tooth.
[A funny, not-totally-cosy paranormal romance mystery. Features a heroine with Haitian roots who practises voodoo; great insight into non-European cultural systems!]
#9. The Unlikeable Demon Hunter (Nava Katz #1) by Deborah Wilde
Nava Katz cares about two things: perfecting the art of being a hot mess and her hard-working twin brother. But she accidentally torches his life-long dream when she disrupts his induction into a secret demon-hunting fraternity and steals his destiny.
Horrified she’s now expected to take his place, Nava is faced with something she never wanted: a purpose.
The society isn’t cool with a woman in their ranks and teams her with a surly but smoking-hot ex-rock star to keep her in line. Too bad he’s exactly what Nava’s always wanted: the perfect bad boy fling with no strings attached, because a hook-up with him is as dangerous as the vengeful demon out for blood–her brother’s.
And Nava’s the only one who can save him.
Odds of survival: meh.
Odds of a good time before she bites it: much better.
[A snarky, kickass heroine paired with an Indian hero, enmeshed in Jewish mythology. What more could you want? Admittedly I have some issues with the way the romance develops in later books, but this first installment is gold.]
#10. A Dead and Stormy Night (Nevermore Bookshop Mysteries #1) by Steffanie Holmes
After being fired from her fashion internship in New York City, Mina Wilde decides it’s time to reevaluate her life. She returns to the quaint English village where she grew up to take a job at the local bookshop, hoping that being surrounded by great literature will help her heal from a devastating blow.
But Mina soon discovers her life is stranger than fiction – a mysterious curse on the bookshop brings fictional characters to life in lust-worthy bodies. Mina finds herself babysitting Poe’s raven, making hot dogs for Heathcliff, and getting IT help from James Moriarty, all while trying not to fall for the three broken men who should only exist within her imagination.
When Mina’s ex-best friend shows up dead with a knife in her back, she’s the chief suspect. She’ll have to solve the murder if she wants to clear her name. Will her fictional boyfriends be able to keep her out of prison?
[Another reverse harem romance, this time where the heroes are characters from English literature. Holmes pulls it off impressively well – much better than I expected; it’s funny, sexy, and sweet. There is also a disabled heroine (she’s going blind).]
#11. Rhapsodic (The Bargainer #1) by Laura Thalassa
Callypso Lillis is a siren with a very big problem, one that stretches up her arm and far into her past. For the last seven years she’s been collecting a bracelet of black beads up her wrist, magical IOUs for favors she’s received. Only death or repayment will fulfill the obligations. Only then will the beads disappear.
Everyone knows that if you need a favor, you go to the Bargainer to make it happen. He’s a man who can get you anything you want … at a price. And everyone knows that sooner or later he always collects.
But for one of his clients, he’s never asked for repayment. Not until now. When Callie finds the fae king of the night in her room, a grin on his lips and a twinkle in his eye, she knows things are about to change. At first it’s just a chaste kiss—a single bead’s worth—and a promise for more.
For the Bargainer, it’s more than just a matter of rekindling an old romance. Something is happening in the Otherworld. Fae warriors are going missing one by one. Only the women are returned, each in a glass casket, a child clutched to their breast. And then there are the whispers among the slaves, whispers of an evil that’s been awoken.
If the Bargainer has any hope to save his people, he’ll need the help of the siren he spurned long ago. Only, his foe has a taste for exotic creatures, and Callie just happens to be one.
[While I didn’t find this NA paranormal romance to quite live up to my expectations, it’s still well-written with an intriguing premise.]
Best Kindle Unlimited Romance Books: Contemporary Romance
#12. Fear Me (Broken Love #1) by B.B. Reid
I don’t believe in fairy tales and Prince Charming.
I believe in fear.
He taught me how to be afraid.
We first met on a playground on a wonderful summer day. It was the first time he hurt me and it wouldn’t be the last. For ten years, he’s been my tormentor and I’ve been his forbidden. But then he went away, and yet I was still afraid.
Now he’s back and wants more than just my tears. You see…he thinks I sent him away so now he wants revenge…and he knows just how to get it.
[Warning: a dark enemies-to-lovers romance. While the writing is a little stilted at times, and there are plenty of grammatical errors, I found myself unwittingly sucked into the engrossing plot.]
#13. Ruthless Knight (Royal Hearts Academy #2) by Ashley Jade
Cole Covington is the most popular heartbreaker at school. Every guy wants to be him and every girl wants to screw him. Except me. His devastatingly good looks, golden arm, and flirty smiles don’t do it for me anymore…because I know what’s lurking underneath the star quarterback’s gorgeous armor.
At least I thought I did.
Sometimes the most beautiful people…hide the ugliest truths. And sometimes the only way to save someone… is to walk beside them through hell. _ Sawyer Church is the bible-thumping nerd of Royal Hearts Academy. Girls pick on her and guys don’t notice her. Except me. Sweet, curvy, and sarcastic, she’s impossible to ignore. No matter how much I try. Everyone at school has her pegged as the chubby, Jesus loving geek, but unlike them—Sawyer’s real and never pretends to be someone she’s not.
Until I ask her to be my fake girlfriend.
Sometimes the most beautiful souls…hide the greatest pain. And sometimes the only way to save someone… is to fight for them.
[I promise this is much, much better than the blurb might suggest. It features a plus-sized heroine who’s confident in her beliefs and doesn’t let the hero (who’s incidentally half-Indian) walk all over her. I was really impressed with the way the author tackled some of the heavy issues in this book, namely drug abuse and body-image issues. The prose is a little overwrought at times and I loathed the first installment in the series, but this book is awesome.]
#14. Untouchable by Sam Mariano
Senior year was off to a rough start: lube in my locker, panties on my front porch, unimaginative name-calling. See, I got a player suspended from the football team for harassing me, and in my small Texas town, you don’t mess with the football players—even if they mess with you first.
I didn’t care if it was an unpopular thing to do; I stood up for myself… and in doing so, opened Pandora’s Box.
I never dreamed I would attract the attention of locally worshipped star quarterback, Carter Mahoney. Never imagined his coveted attention would turn out to be such a nightmare. Beneath his carefully constructed façade lurks a monster, a predator looking for the perfect prey to play with. Now, since I’m the girl no one likes or believes, I guess I’m the perfect target for his dark games and twisted desires.
After surviving my first encounter with his casual depravity, all I really want is for Carter to leave me alone.
But all he seems to want is me.
[Warning: this is a very dark, though very emotional and well-written, ‘bully romance.’]
#15. Heart Thief (Black Market Billionaire #1) by Skylar Sweeney
Billionaire Rex Bennett broke my heart, and now I’m coming for his—for real this time. My greatest enemy stole a miracle heart from its maker, and I’m going undercover as his Sexy Secretary to take it back, at least if his offers to fondle his gun and spice up his coffee don’t drive me to the wild side first.
Rex shattered my heart years ago, and I was sure it would never beat the same… until a single kiss from the man I despise pieced it back together. Do I stay true to my vengeance and steal the heart he needs to survive or do I succumb to passion and allow the maker of the heart to die?
[This debut novel is a little rough around the edges, but there’s an original premise + hilarious banter between the protagonists!]
#16. More than Enough (Postgrad #1) by Bria Felicien
All Jamila wants to do is figure out this “adulthood” thing. Step 1: Find a new job.
With his second career about to begin, TJ is ready to settle down. Step 1: Start dating again.
When TJ and Jamila meet, they don’t know what to do with each other. Other than complicate everything.
#17. The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata
Vanessa Mazur knows she’s doing the right thing. She shouldn’t feel bad for quitting. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. She has plans and none of them include washing extra-large underwear longer than necessary.
But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she’s beyond shocked.
For two years, the man known as The Wall of Winnipeg couldn’t find it in him to tell her good morning or congratulate her on her birthday. Now? He’s asking for the unthinkable.
What do you say to the man who is used to getting everything he wants?
[Zapata’s books are famed for being emotionally-intense, slow-burn romances. While my personal favourite is Under Locke, this is worth a read too.]
#18. The Kingmaker (All the King’s Men #1) by Kennedy Ryan
Power. Passion. Betrayal.
Raised to rule, bred to lead and weaned on a diet of ruthless ambition. In a world of haves and have nots, my family has it all, and I want nothing to do with it.
My path takes me far from home and paints me as the black sheep. At odds with my father, I’m determined to build my own empire. I have rules, but Lennix Hunter is the exception to every one of them. From the moment we meet, something sparks between us. But my family stole from hers and my father is the man she hates most. I lied to have her, and will do anything to keep her. Though she tries to hate me, too, the inexorable pull between us will not be denied.
And neither will I.
[Some great diversity here – the heroine is a member of Yavapai-Apache Nation, and the culture constitutes a large element of the book.]
#19. Giving Chase (Havenwood #1) by Riley Hart
KELLAN I wasn’t supposed to fall for my older brother’s best friend. Unfortunately, that ship sailed when I was a teenager, even though Chase Hawthorne always treated me like nothing more than a younger sibling. Things were worse after my parents died. Chase was sweet and supportive, which only strengthened my feelings for him. But then he’d act like I couldn’t take care of myself, and that part didn’t go over well with me. Yeah, I had a habit of screwing up. I’d always been the weird boy in our small town, but just like my big brother, he took overprotective to a new level. Until one night when I was eighteen and Chase and I hooked up. It was a ding to the ego that he left town right afterward. Ridiculously, I’m still not over him.
CHASE I betrayed my best friend, Griffin, the night I messed around with Kellan. So I ran–first to the Marines, then into law enforcement. Ten years later, I’m back home, this time as a patrol officer rather than a troublemaker’s son. Oh, and unable to keep my hands off Kellan Caine. There’s always been something about him…the way he stands strong in who he is, even when he’s standing alone. I’m trapped between someone I want more than anything and Griff, the guy who’s like family to me. Yet the more time I spend with Kellan, the harder it becomes to deny there’s something real between us.
With my dad stirring up trouble, and me going behind my best friend’s back, everything’s a mess. The more tangled the web gets, the more I realize I need Kellan. And that there might be something in the Hawthorne family history that’ll make me lose both Kellan and Griffin for good.
#20. Permanent Ink (Art & Soul #1) by Piper Vaughn & Avon Gale
At twenty-three, graffiti artist Poe Montgomery is going nowhere fast. His second chance comes in the form of a job offer from his father’s best friend, Jericho McAslan, owner of a popular tattoo shop, Permanent Ink.
Between their age gap, tension with Poe’s father, Poe’s struggles to focus, and Jericho’s determination to keep their relationship strictly professional, their chance at love seems as fleeting as a tattoo stencil.
But when Poe makes his deepest desires abundantly clear, Jericho can no longer resist their burning attraction or the idea of his own fantasies becoming reality. If they can find a way to rewrite their rocky start, they might have a chance at transforming their temporary arrangement into something that lasts forever.
[A cute May-December romance featuring a bisexual hero and some daddy kink.]
#21. The Sergeant (Cuffs, Collars, and Love #1) by Christa Tomlinson
Sergeant Logan Pierce: He leads his squad with cool efficiency, taking down rough criminals while keeping his team safe. But behind closed doors he sets a darker part of himself free. As a Dom, he’s controlled many submissives, but never had one for his own. That’s because there’s only one man he wants: Officer Clay Foster.
Officer Clay Foster: Over the years he’s noticed his Sergeant’s secretly admiring glances and suspected his attraction. One night, with one kiss, he’s proven correct. Clay dives headlong into the rough passion of BDSM that Logan introduces him to. He submits to Logan’s control, accepting the sweet shackles that bind him to his Sergeant. But secrets, both his and Logan’s, force him to leave the newfound safety of his Dom’s arms.
Logan refuses to let go of what he’s wanted for so long, Clay as his own, proudly wearing his collar. Can he safely guide Clay through the obstacles that separate them until he can claim his submissive once more?
#22. Call the Coroner (Staniel #1) by Avril Ashton
A clash of wills between predators…
He’s been living underground for a long time, but the only thing guaranteed to bring Daniel Nieto back to the surface is the identity of his wife’s killer. With the whisper of one name, he puts it all on the line for vengeance. He’s got plans for Stavros Konstantinou.
The title of monster fits too well for Stavros to want to be anything other than what he is. Time spent in Daniel Nieto’s dungeon, chained and tortured, will never change that. Starved of food, sunlight, and freedom, he waits for an opening to turn the tables on the only man who’s ever come close enough to scare him.
Somewhere between the slide of knife against skin, and the drip of blood on cold concrete, things change. Grief and hatred collide with lust and obsession, and this time Daniel and Stavros are on the same side. This time, they’re fighting a losing battle against a connection forged by much more than a love of violence and bloodshed.
In a war this bloodied, what do you do when the bodies start hitting the floor?
[Warning: a very dark M/M romance.]
