do you have any tips for getting back into writing after a long break?

this may sound facetious, but you kind of just have to do it.

I don't mean like, sit down and spit out polished work. but you just gotta sit down with a document and write some words. it doesn't have to be a story. stream of consciousness that shit if you gotta, but there's muscle memory between mind and body here, between the brain that has the story and the fingers that have to write it. half the battle is always, regardless of writing consistently or coming back years later, having that connection be in shape.

You're riding a bike. it's not like you've forgotten how to do it, you just don't have the same muscle tone in the same places as when you did it previously. But it's not like the muscles disappeared off the face of the planet. exercise sucks, but you just gotta do it if you want to get the right muscle back in shape. in this case, it's just writing stuff and remembering how to get the brain words to be the font words.

if you have ideas already, scribble them down like you're telling a friend the story, but in a document. if you don't have ideas, go grab a prompts list from somewhere and write a couple paragraphs per prompt until something strikes. you don't have to finish them or post them. you're just doing writing crunches. idk what your writing style was, but like mine is heavily based on having a good outline, so that's what I would do first. Try 'n remember whatever your style relied on, and do some of that to get back into the swing.
