All right, besties. I had my days of depression and (bad) ideations, I had my flare of anger. It's easy to fall into despair, but let's focus that energy to thinking further ahead. Firstly: by focusing on our health and eating.
You've probably noticed in the last few months, a lot of food recalls from the FDA. The majority of these, particularly the most recent ones around heavily processed chicken in ready-meals and beef in fast food restaurants, are a direct result of the 45th president cutting back health regulations in industrialized food production four to six years ago that we're just now seeing the results of as it's gone through the process and finally hit shelves.
Now would be a good time to start looking into your local farmer's markets and sourcing your meats and produce from locally owned farms you trust. Start developing a good relationship with your local farmers and butchers. When you go to see them, just get to know them and ask some general questions.
A lot of these places are family run, particularly if you're not close to a large metropolitan area. So when you go to see these folks and they make small talk (because they will, they want to know what brought you out, how'd you find their farm, what kinds of meats and cuts and whatever you're looking for, just genuine small talk), do not bring up politics or USDA regulations. Literally just tell them that you're interested in sourcing and supporting local agriculture and farming (which is true, you are wanting to get away from big corporate industrialized meat production).
If your area has a good farmer's market during the spring/summer/fall, absolutely hit that up. The one close by me not only has good meats and produce, but also honey, different kinds of cheeses, all sorts of things. Farmer's markets closer to a city or metropolitan area will usually only be on weekends during the warmer seasons so keep an eye out and check out any options you have.
I'll give a starting resource for you: https://www.localharvest.org/locations/
Any local farms or farmer's markets that are registered there in the mainland US will have some listings there with hours of operation, location and what they produce, as well as if they're a farm, a farmer's market, a grocery, or a local restaurant, as well as reviews. Use that and source further and find other farms that aren't registered on that site that may have more of what you're looking for. The farming community talk to each other and they know what's up with the other farms.
If you want to go out and pick your own produce (berries, fruits, etc), there's https://upickfarmlocator.com/ that will show you any "u-pick" farms and orchards in your area. It's a pretty in depth resource that I'd recommend using if you're able to go out and do that.
There are a few urban harvesting resources like fallingfruit, but I'm not as familiar with that so I can't in good faith recommend it until I've done some research into it myself.
I'm mostly familiar with chicken farms and fish ponds so I can't provide much insight to cattle or game meat, unfortunately. If anyone who sees this post is familiar, please feel free to add on. I'm also not a source for how to skin your meat or pluck your birds, so again, if anyone seeing this has any insight, please please add on to this.
Let's keep each other healthy and strong so we can fight the good fight ahead of us. The biggest advice I can give to anyone starting this journey is to research. Research anything you're interested in and don't give up.
I'll update this post with any other resources I find, or that others add on. This post is recent as of 2024-11-08.
(And yes, I know, before anyone comes rushing in, I understand this is not as easy for larger metropolitan areas or food deserts. Yes I know not everyone has the ability to go out and do this, and not everyone has easy transportation to haul goods back. This is where the "community" part comes if you can coordinate a group renting a car or someone who does drive to get everyone out there and back. And yes, before other folks come in, I understand sometimes it's better to grow your own produce and raise your own livestock, this is for the folks who don't have the ability to whether that's because of physical disabilities, lack of space [Hi, I live in a condo and have no space to grow my own in fact], or any other reason why they can't.)

Been talking a lot about writing tools and sites here because of the news about NaNoWriMo picking up a terrible sponsor! Here's some more! I'm not sure there's any one program/app/site/tool/method that has ever worked for me consistently. I'm just sort of always looking for new tools to add to my collection, I guess. Here's a couple I've used at some point and will probably return to in the future.
750 Words : Recently moved to a 2.0 version. It's geared a little bit towards people that might use this for freewriting or journaling, but I've used it during a few different nanowrimos! 750 words is the number you have to reach for it to give you "full credit" for writing that day and I found that to be a decent chunk of writing without being overwhelming. It's very private, and it has some interesting metrics which can be fun to look at and some badges for achievements, lmao, but is otherwise a very stripped back experience, which can help if you need to avoid distractions. The new website is not as clear about this as the old, but this site does run on a subscription of $5/month or $50/year. (I was grandfathered in on the old version and never had to pay the subscription. Not sure if that will carry over to the new one) You do get a 30 day free trial to try it out though!
StimuWrite: This is a sort of word-processor program you can buy on itch.io. (Well, the base program is name your own price/free and some of the add-ons are like $2. It works on windows, mac, and linux!). It is like the polar opposite of 750 Words in terms of experience. 750 is stripped back and simple. StimuWrite is designed for folks with ADHD or other people whose brains cannot focus unless there is outside stimuli! There are visual themes and background colors to mess with! There's a soundscape! Do you like cafe background noises? They have that! Want to pretend you are writing on a beach? There's ocean noises! Need noises to happen when you type? You can have Ye Olde Typewriter Noises! Or bubbles! Or scribbling noises! Not enough stimuli? You can also have streams of emojis flutter up on the sides as you type! The more you type the more they go! These can all be turned on and off and adjusted to get just the right combo. Plus there are some additional themes and add-ons you can buy. I am partial to the clacky typewriter noises and sparkle emojis. It also functions as a word counter and let's you set a word goal (and will do a big splash of emojis for you when you hit that goal if you set that option lmao) Other than that, it does not have many word program functions, but you can always copy and paste your work into a fancier program to edit and format it. (which you may want to do anyway because it doesn't really have a save or load function, just an export function)

My fav manifesting methods
For the girlies who enjoy variation in their manifestation process
Scripting
Supplies: pen, paper (pref a notebook or js ur notes app)
Scripting is basically when you write out your manifestations in the past tense, e.g.: "I recently went shopping with my mom" or "my dad recently gave me 100 € to go shopping!" While also trying to describe how you feel in that described moment. So it'd be something like "I'm so happy, today I went to the beach with my friends, we went thrifting, picked shells and got ice cream together, I am so grateful to spend time with them."
An important sidenote is to be grateful, seeing that gratitude is an important aspect of manifestation (at least it is in my manifestation process) because the universe can't deny a grateful person. (in my personal belief)
And to expand on this, here's a method I've been using these past days (I dont know where I got this idea from though)
Writing letters
Another cool method is to write texts/letters in your SP's name or to get a specific desire.
For example: Dear Elle (my name) we of so and so are glad to let you know that you have been admitted to our [desire]!
And you can vary on this! Say I want someone to apologise to me, I can just write something out in my notes or a physical sheet of paper and either get rid of it (or keep it, you do you!) And boom! You just manifested your desire!!
Pretending to be a narrator in a story
This method basically entails that you pretend to be e.g. an all-knowing narrator of a story that draws out a scene of a character(s) and adds a description. (Like the one from Eah!)
(Maybe add a twist and pretend to be a sassy side character in an early 2000s TV show that just saw the two MCs kiss and is ab to spread rumors— just get creative.)
So it's pretty much a fanfic on crack except it actually comes to life because we're all master manifesters ✨️
Oh and if you can't draw just manifest that you can draw‐
And if you don't wanna put too much effort into this, just draw stick men or items to represent your desires/specific people :P
This also relates to scripting
Vision boards
Supplies: use either Pinterest or an in-person scrapbook with magazine cutouts and drawings
I feel like this mostly speaks for itself, after all: an image says more than a thousand words.
Seeing your desire in an image can help your brain kinda 'target' your desire.
Your brain doesn't know the difference between reality and imagination so essentially you're gaslighting yourself into a specific idea/mindset/etc.
Also here's an example of one of my personal vision boards which i used to manifest all As for my finals last year.
Simonesquared and Fernanda Ramirez both have amazing videos and explanations on these topics, i suggest watching them to get a better idea on making vision boards. (Tho i might just make a masterlist with different links/explanations/deets sometime!)
Subliminals/affirmation tapes
Supplies:earbuds/headphones (optional), any device
If you've been in this community for long enough I'm sure you know what they are and if not here's a brief explanation.
Then there are affirmation tapes, these are the same as subliminal except the affirmations are meant to be heard to be get picked up by your conscious mind as well.
If you haven't used any before, here are some subliminal creators that put out amazing content and deserve each snd every ounce of support!
Slade (all pronouns) they practice Indian folk and also make subs that are shifting-related (for my shifters out there), though their subs don't contain any witchcraft unless specifically mentioned.
Moza morph is a medical student who makes subs, the benefits of her subliminals are thought out very well and quite descriptive. She makes great content regarding manifestation and the workings of subliminals too.
Baejin cafe and mii! both make a wide variety of subliminals but their school and grade related subliminals are popular for very good reasons!
Guided meditations
Supplies: a device, earbuds/headphones (I recommend using these for a better immersive experience)
A brief explanation on meditation can be found here.
Even though i dont use this method as often, i notice that it helps my focus and gives me clarity therefore I highly suggest it to others new in the game.
Here are some favs (YouTube links)
Guided meditation for meeting your future self
Guided meditation for self love
Also this one by Joe dispenza just because he's the goat
Visualization
Supplies: just you and your brain
I consider this by far the easiest manifestation method since you can do it literally anywhere.
It's pretty much just daydreaming about your desires, and if you're particularly into it you can listen to some music with lyrics that is aligned with your goals. (For example: I listen to Lucky girl by Carlina to enhance my lucky girl syndrome while daydreaming)
And it doesn't necessarily have to be based on your sight, if you can delusion yourself into hearing your SP's heartbeat, or condition yourself into smelling your fav flowers in the living room, then you're good!
(Sometimes when I'm watching a TV show that's one of my DRs I also visualize my highest self randomly chiming in or saying or doing something I'd say)
That's all for today!
And remember
If you have it in your imagination, it's already yours.
Stay educated and hot
With love
Elle 🤍

Do you have suggestions for changelings? White skin, solid color eyes, pointed ears? I've struggled with finding picrews with actually white skin and solid colored eyes.
Hi! Thanks for the ask. (I'm also tagging @theawkwardbutterfly 'cause I know you wanted changeling recs too!)
Here are my Top 5 picks for making changelings:
Tiefling Maker by Crowesn
Picrew overview here
White Skin ✅ Solid-colour Eyes ✅ Pointed Ears ✅
One of my all-time favourite picrews for a reason, this tiefling maker has everything on your checklist and so much more! It has 3 androgynous body types to choose from (with options to add cleavage, an adam's apple, neither or both!) and 8 face shapes!
One of my favourite things about this picrew is the skin details, so if you'd like to keep your changeling's skin pristine and unmarked you can do that but if you, like me, like to add subtle interest you can apply subtle grey blush and vitiligo like I've done in the example images. There are also scars, wrinkles, freckles, facial hair and goliath-esque markings, all of which can be layered over each other. Clothing options are versatile and there are some great accessories too!
Fantasy OC Maker 4000 by stuffjademade
Picrew overview here
White Skin ✅ Solid-colour Eyes ✅ Pointed Ears ✅
Another super versatile character maker specifically targeted towards fantasy OCs this picrew also has 3 androgynous body types to choose from (with options to add cleavage, an adam's apple, neither or both) and 8 face shapes. It also has tons of skin details including scars, bruises, make up and wrinkles but one of my favourite things about this one is the huge range of beautiful high fantasy accessories, weapons and animal companions. A really fantastic option for wizards, warlocks and rangers in particular.
TS Fantasy Icon Maker by trifling shadows
Picrew overview here
White Skin ✅ Solid-colour Eyes ✅ Pointed Ears ✅
This picrew doesn't have different body types but considering it's only head and shoulders anyway, it makes up for it with it's 6 face shapes. Skin details include facial hair, scars, wrinkles and vitiligo all of which can be layered on top of each other and there's a good range of high fantasy backgrounds, clothing and accessories to choose from. The facial features, face shapes and other details are varied enough that this picrew can be used for feminine, masculine or androgynous characters.
Fantasy Character Maker by deerinspotlight
Picrew overview here
White Skin ✅ Solid-colour Eyes ✅ Pointed Ears ✅
Continuing the trend of androgyny (particularly appropriate for changelings) this picrew has 2 gender-neutral body types to choose from and 3 face shapes. It has tons of options for skin details like scars and wrinkles and a good range of high fantasy/historical clothing and accessories including a couple of animal companions!
Build a bastard by warmonger
Picrew overview here
White Skin ✅ Solid-colour Eyes ✅ Pointed Ears ❎
Only one gender-neutral body type for this one but it somewhat makes up for it with 7 face shapes to choose from. This picrew is greyscale so if you want to make a changeling who dresses in colourful clothing or accessories this might not be the best choice. However the options for pure white skin and hair and solid colour eyes work really well for changelings. Clothing choices lean a little modern but there are options that work for high fantasy and historical settings too.
***
That's it for now folks, but there were quite a few others that I found while researching this that also work pretty well so I'll probably follow up with a Part 2 soon.

Yknow, despite acknowledging the racism and xenophobia of a lot of the authorial intent of these bits of Dracula, it's surprising how easily we can turn it on its head and make these "dracula helpers" be also people in a Shitty situation, hating the fact they have no real way to help Jonathan. Making the contempt for these people be something dracula intentionally plants in Jonathan's mind to make him distrustful of the people that *could* help him. Specially considering the depictions of the crucifix lady and all the kind souls in the coach... it enriches the story to make it so these folks are not actually racist caricatures but real flesh and blood (ha) humans in an extremely complex position
It does take deliberate effort to come up with justifications/alternate interpretations. But at the same time, yeah, you don't technically have to change canon to get a much better view of them - the lack of communication between them and our main characters makes their canon motivations cloudier and opens up options to pick a different one. And it really does add to the story if you do so.
Throughout the entire book, the minor characters aren't evil people. Even when they're working for Dracula, they're just doing a job and either don't know what he is (in England, the Captain of the Demeter) or are too afraid to act because they do know what he is (the locals near the Castle, the sailors). Admittedly the situation on the Demeter is a bit more complex with the first mate's likely knowledge of what Dracula is warring with his denial of it, but being in denial and being a harsh or even abusive boss isn't the same thing as wanting to help Dracula. Everyone seems to basically mean well, even if the results are often in service of evil. This actually becomes an interpersonal theme amongst the main characters, with loving and well-meant lack of communication making them vulnerable to Dracula.
Dracula has a bunch of people working for him, and they all help him out to various degrees - in addition to the ones like the people on the coach and inn who are just too scared to openly oppose him. In fact, Jonathan himself provides him a lot of help in planning and getting his legal necessities squared away, and if anything he is the ultimate proof that you don't have to want to support Dracula in any way in order to feel like you have to keep him happy. Having just a couple of "Bad People" is really out of place to the rest of the book. It would make more sense if there was a kind of 'everyone is shades of gray' complex morality on display amongst various people, but the book doesn't go there (despite all the 'heroes were the true villains all along' sequels/adaptations). It has a pretty firm stance that people are basically good and want to help one another, but that a combination of not communicating, not believing in others' capabilities, and fear leaves cracks that Dracula takes advantage of to wedge them apart. Once he's isolated them from each other he is better able to hunt them.
The lack of communication is evident among the main characters. The prejudicial ideas/lack of belief in capabilities is largely shown through benevolent sexism and ableism, but there is also some racist dismissal of foolish local superstitions at various points. And of course fear takes various forms, for oneself, for others. But if we go with a different interpretation of these people, rather than just being racist Evil Goons who are exceptions to the rest of humanity, they immediately fall prey to all three of those themes. The language barrier doesn't allow for communication. The racist ideas of them Jonathan has been told are reinforced by this lack of ability to communicate and by Dracula himself. Their fear for their own lives leaves them unable to answer Jonathan's pleas for help. His isolation leaves him more vulnerable to Dracula. It even goes the other way around too kind of, because if they have difficulty communicating (not necessarily always straight up language barrier) and people are operating on those racist assumptions that they're fine or even eager to be working for Dracula, then no one is going to try and help them either (which just as Dracula would like, potentially leaves them thinking they don't have much recourse but to serve him). The entire chase and fight at the end of the story could play into that, potentially.
So yeah, it is still a deliberate effort, because there was clearly racist assumptions/intent in the way they were written. But making the effort to have a kinder interpretations of them... It gives them a chance to be people in a bad situation, rather than racist caricatures, as you said. And that's preferable on both a personal level and for the themes of the book.
#dracula daily#dracula daily spoilers#dracula locals#replies#anonymous#but at the same time anyone who hated the way they are shown and wanted to change it i get because the racism is very much there#the same lack of insight into their perspective that makes it easy to rewrite their motivations also means we don't know/see#those motivations in canon. and all the effort is on the reader to 'fix' that which many a reader might not do

How to Make Rendog in DnD
I’ll go level by level and explain the reasoning behind my decisions and how I think it fits them in character. This build assumes starting at level 8 but includes notes on differences if you start at level 1 and progress to 8. This is not intended as a guide on how to play dnd, just how to build this character. I also don't explain every feature, but I may briefly touch on it and explain my reasoning for taking it.
Class: Barbarian 5 (Path of the Beast)/Bard 3 (College of Swords)
Race: Shifter (closest to an official dog race in 5e)
Base Ability Scores:
Str 15 (+2) + 1 from race = 16 (+3)
Dex 10 (+0)
Con 14 (+2) +2 from race = 16 (+3)
Int 8 (-1)
Wis 10 (+0)
Cha 14 (+2)
Background: Folk Hero
Ren is a strong player with a good track record when it comes to pvp in the life series. What he lacks in game knowledge he makes up for with pure charisma, being able to swing many people to his side (renpire, shadow alliance). Depending on how you look at it, he really is a hero to some (especially martyn) and knows how to make a good show.
Before we get into the class features, here’s the race and background ones.
Shifter:
Bestial Instincts: Skill proficiency. Choose Athletics.
Darkvision 60ft.
Shifting: Become more beast-like as a bonus action and gain temp HP. Become doggier.
Shifter type: choose Swiftstride to be fast, but if you want tankiness then Beasthide is also a good option. Barbarians often struggle with movement speed which is the main reason for choosing Swiftstride.
Folk Hero Background:
Skill Proficiencies: Animal Handling, Survival
Tool Proficiencies: Any Artisan’s tools, land vehicles.
Rustic Hospitality: Common people like you and will help you.
Shifters get to choose their animal ancestry and traits, so you can choose to be a dog. Longtooth is usually the default option for dog (the other options are associated with other animals) but the feature is quite useless in this build, which is why we pick one of the other ones.
Time for class levels! At 1st lvl, we start with barbarian, which grants us:
Proficiency in Light and medium armour, shields
Proficiency in simple and martial weapons
Proficiency in Strength and Constitution saving throws.
Skill proficiencies: choose Intimidation and Perception
Rage: Core barbarian feature. Hit harder and soak more hits. Keep in mind you cant use spells while raging, which will matter after multiclassing.
Unarmored Defense: Add your Con to your AC if you have no armour. Goes well with being a bard…
The red king Ren was very vicious kind of king who goes to war leading his troops rather than hiding in the backline. Barbarian is a perfect class for Ren who is both very good at and goes unga bunga on occasion. Keep in mind both Shifting and Raging are bonus actions, so you have to use them on different turns. The temp HP gets doubled value vs weapon damage if you’re raging because of resistance, so it might be usually better to rage first but it also depends.
At 2nd lvl, we continue with barbarian and will do so up to lvl 5.
Danger Sense: Advantage on dex saves against things you can see. Very useful for avoiding traps.
Reckless Attack: Advantage on your attacks is always good to have if you don’t mind taking more hits.
These features fit Ren perfectly too since he is pretty good at surviving and avoiding traps (unless a stalactite is involved) and in combat he can go pretty wild.
At 3rd lvl, we get:
Subclass: Path of the Beast
Path of the Beast gives:
Form of the Beast: When you Rage, you get an extra bestial trait to be even more dog-like. Bite gives you healing at low hp, claw gives you an extra attack and tail gives you extra ac. All fairly useful in different situations.
Now Ren becomes even more doggy. I always envisioned Ren being more of an axe-wielding barbarian, but these are still good to have. Keep in mind you choose the trait when you rage and can’t change it until a new rage, so choose the right one for the situation (low hp? Bite for healing. Two claw attacks actually deals more damage than the axe because you add your strength mod twice. Tail is good for avoiding hits or hitting something barely out of reach.)
At 4th lvl, we get:
Ability Score Improvement OR Feat: Take the Ability Score improvement and bump your Strength up to 18 (+4).
The extra strength helps everywhere as a barbarian.
At 5th lvl, we get:
Extra Attack (more damage! Woo!)
Fast Movement: an extra 10 ft. of move speed if you aren’t wearing heavy armour which you can’t really use as a barbarian anyway.
If you took Swiftstrider at the start, you’ll now have a whopping 50 ft. of walking speed, which is pretty dang fast. You’ll be able to run across deserts in no time.
At 6th lvl, we begin multiclassing with a level in bard, which grants us:
Musical Instrument Proficiency: Choose a Horn.
Skill Proficiency: Choose Persuasion
Bardic Inspiration: Increase chances of success. Not a spell, so you can use it during rage.
Two Cantrips: Choose Message (whisper chat msgs) and Minor Illusion (fun spell)
Four 1st lvl spells: Speak with Animals, Identify, Charm Person and Color Spray.
Now we get to the more… seductive side of Ren. Ren’s a really fun person but is also known to be a little on the less PG side of things if you know what I’m saying (not to mention the fact that as a barbarian with unarmored defense… fully exposed while being beheaded). I also tried to pick spells that are more useful outside of combat since he can’t cast spells while raging.
At 7th lvl, we take a second level of Bard, which grants us:
Jack of All Trades: Half-proficiency in all ability checks is good.
Song of Rest: Listen to Ren sing Britney during a short rest and heal up extra good.
One more spell: Command (Kneel before your king!)
Jack of All Trades will make up for some of Ren’s poorer stat checks now.
At 8th lvl, we take a third level of Bard, which grants us:
Expertise in Two Skills: Choose Persuasion (man literally persuaded people to go to war) and Athletics (good in general for strength builds).
2nd lvl spells: See Invisibility (doesn’t use concentration)
Subclass: College of Swords
College of Swords grants us:
Bonus Proficiencies: Medium Armor and Scimitars. Redundant because we get that from Barbarian.
Fighting Style: Choose Dueling and use a battle axe with a shield.
Blade Flourish: Even more movement speed when you attack, and the flourish options are all useful on top of the extra damage they provide (more ac, knockback and aoe damage). The go-to would probably be Defensive Flourish to stack with your Tail. If you chose Beasthide Shifter, your AC will go even higher.
Flourishes are especially useful because they aren’t spells and they don’t take any action economy. This is a surprisingly good synergy between a barbarian and a bard multiclass, especially since you get access to a fighting style with this subclass for some extra damage consistency.
Summary:
Final Stats:
Str 18 (+4)
Dex 10 (+0)
Con 16 (+3)
Int 8 (-1)
Wis 10 (+0)
Cha 14 (+2)
Two Attacks
Battle axe attack: +4 (str) +3 (prof. bonus) = +7 to hit, 1d8 + 4 + 2 (dueling) slashing dmg.
Three Bardic Inspirations
Cantrips: Message, Minor Illusion
1st lvl spells: Speak with Animals, Identify, Color Spray, Charm Person, Command
2nd lvl spells: See Invisibility
In summary, lots of combat power (as is fitting for the Red King himself) and a decent amount of Bard utility. A similar build to Scar’s, though more towards the combat end of the spectrum.
And that’s it for Ren! I think I managed to capture a bit of his savagery but also his fun and charming side into this build. He’s built for combat but he’s also quite good in social situations and he’s gonna be a tough nut to crack!

Random: A gamer’s diary entry for October 2023!
While I finish writing, and playing, my next backlog games I’m excited to add to the wishlist ‘Little Goody Two Shoes’. Which looks like it’s going to be getting a physical release. (Which I won’t be picking this game up until the physical drops. I already know I’ll like it.)
One of my favorite YouTube channels called Nostalook worked on the trailer (and I think the in game cutscenes as well) and their work is stunning as usual. It really captures the 90s anime look. It deeply reminds me of Princess Maker.
youtube
Also it’s a shoujo yuri. Female romancable characters only! (And they’re all so ✨ PRETTY ✨) I can’t explain how HAPPY that makes me. I just hope it stays in an innocent direction.
You know, because in majority yuri isn’t made for women. 😐
I get it, but at the same time I feel locked out of the content because it’s so obviously not for me. But that’s a complaint for a different post on a different day! Makes me wonder if men feel the same way about yaoi.
I was very bad this month. There were a lot of physical sales. And then my preorders for new games rolled in. I always prioritize my physical games over my… “digital” games, so those will be in the front of my backlog!
Let’s take a look at what I picked up! (I paid full price for nothing on this list. I am wickedly good at finding deals and coupons. Which upon review I will attempt to pass onto you!):
Traumatarium
Dredge
Omori
FaeFarm
Inescapable
Sonic Superstars
Coffee Talk 2
Moon A Remix RPG
I’m already playing a few of these games, so my reviews on those should be out next week!
I decided to skip this month’s two biggest releases altogether until about next year. I want the GOTY Spider-Man 2 when it comes with all of the DLC for $20. The first one was amazing. I’m just willing to wait on it. Which is a similar story for Mario Wonder. I mostly use the fall season to get all the titles I’ve been wanting for a freaking sick deal. Why should I have to pay full price?
The older I get, the more I feel like I appreciate weird games and indie titles more anyway. I feel like those other projects have the freedom to take more aesthetic risks than the big companies. Not because of the creatives inside (They tend to always have good ideas), but the stockholders. 🙄
I adore some of these triple A titles to my core, but I crave to see more new things too. Different things.
Dave The Diver is a good example. That seems rad. I like ocean games. I like that we get more of them now. I’m gonna wait and see if that one gets a physical as well. You collect fish to go back to your restaurant to make sushi? Sign me up!
Don’t even get me started on Limited Run’s releases this month.
While ‘Persona 4’ and ‘This Way Madness Lies’ are no brainers for me; I was EXTREMELY on the fence about ‘Persona 3 Portable’. (I did pick it up reluctantly)
The remake of Persona 3 will be upon us soon and I don’t know if I’ll want to play P3P again. The problem lies in the fact that most of these games become much more expensive later. Buying it on “launch” from Limited Run usually IS the cheaper option.
That shit annoys me so bad. I don’t like picking up games for value. But because the game might be value I have to be ahead of the scalpers and pay for it at its maybe cheapest.
I collect games because I like ‘em. I want to play them and love them. I want to use my stuff. I don’t give a fuck about the “value”. I respect the folks that do care about that stuff but I plain just don’t.
But that’s also just kinda life. Not much can be done about other people. You can only truly control yourself. 🙄
Overall October has been an exceptionally excellent month for gaming! We’ve had so much good stuff come out this fall season. I’m excited for next month as well! Super Mario RPG will be making its re-debut and I can’t wait to talk about that one!

I love a good sourdough as much as the next person, but if you're a white bread lover too, there are some genuinely tasty white breads out there! My personal favourite is tiger loaf, and if you buy it fresh at a bakery you can ask them to slice it thick instead of thin. (Tiger loaf tends to be small in shape, so you may want to make a couple of sandwiches at the same time, depending on your appetite.) Tiger rolls are wonderful if you want the fluffy white bread even thicker, with that glorious crusty top.
Roast chicken is fantastic on a sandwich, and if you like (or love!) stuffing you can put that on your sandwich too, just smoosh it on your bread so it doesn't fall out. (Supermarket roast chickens are a time-saving shortcut for this, just make sure you either heat or chill it very thoroughly, get it out of the bacteria danger zone.)
Fresh ham goes great with roast chicken as an alternative to bacon. My personal favourite is honey leg ham, but Virginia is awesome too if you prefer a mild smoked ham.
There are so many varieties of cheese, and so many of them are brilliant in sandwiches! Red Leicester is one of my favourite somewhat-crumbly cheeses, but if you're after one that melts well in a toasty, then Colby or Swiss are delicious options.
Truss tomatoes are the best for rich flavour available pretty much everywhere in Australia, but if you have a fruit & veg shop or farmer's market close by, take a look at their different varieties, and ask what the staff recommend if you aren't familiar.
Shallots are a brilliant option if you don't like or aren't in the mood for red onion. Dice them up small and add as liberally as you like!
Smashed avocado is a generational stereotype for a reason - it's beloved on café style sandwiches, and goes wonderfully with all of the above. If (like many of us) you don't trust yourself with judging the ripeness of fresh avo, frozen diced or sliced avo may be for you! Just defrost some when you're in the mood, without worrying about an entire avo spoiling because you missed the window of opportunity.
If you aren't a fan of or can't digest leafy greens, that's OK! Try adding carrot instead, just make sure it's fresh, and either grated or very thinly sliced (you can also use a peeler).
Garlic aioli is my pick over mayo - it's got a great flavour, and pairs brilliantly with a wide variety of things, not just as a sandwich filling. 10/10 my most used condiment. (Heinz make one I really love, if you're like me and just want to buy it not make it.)
As for seasonings, I tend not to bother when I have all of the above together, but have a play around with your favourites if you want even more flavour.
Regardless of what your tastes may be, the variety, quality, and quantity of ingredients are absolutely key to a great home made sandwich. Layer up a bunch of things you like and enjoy!
(And don't be afraid or ashamed of using shortcuts like store-bought aioli, frozen avocado, or pre-cooked roast chicken. Few of us are gourmet cooks, most folks are busy, and many of us are disabled. We still deserve yummy sandwiches.)
Do you have advice on the art of sandwiches? I feel like i my best sandwich at home is still leagues below the worst sandwich ive bought at a restaurant
Since sandwiches are infinitely variable, I'm going to assume you're trying to make my favorite sandwich: the Turkey Club, sandwich style not sub style.
Your goal is to MAXIMIZE FLAVOR.
Thicker bread. Standard slice size for bread isn't going to cut it, here. You want thick-slice bread.
Sourdough, or French Bread not 'White' bread. You want it chewy, with a thicker crust. Hearty.
Extra-Heavy Mayo. Restaurants do not use standard mayo from the grocery. Extra-heavy mayo has a higher ratio of egg yolks, giving it a richer flavor and thicker consistency for both spreading and using in tuna or egg salad. It's also more of a warm ivory color, rather than 'white.'
Instead of yellow deli mustard, try a ground-whole-seed mustard. It has a spicier, richer profile, and a little more vinegar.
Be generous with condiments. You're making a good sandwich, not cutting calories.
SEASON your sandwich. Dust the vegetables - salt and pepper goes a long way! Dried oregano, onion powder, garlic powder are also champs. My fave is to take a spicy blend (like a fajita seasoning blend) and sprinkle generously over the mayo before adding other stuff.
Lettuce CRUNCH is important. Include the pale crispy parts in your sandwich, not just the soft green leaf parts. Use romaine and arugula, not 'iceburg' lettuce, which has next to zero flavor.
If you're using texture leafy greens like arugula, toss it in a vinaigrette before piling it onto the sandwich. The vinegar zing makes a statement.
The tomato should have a strong flavor of its own. Salt & pepper on ripe tomato is heavenly. Make sure your seasoning hits the tomato.
If you're adding onion, make sure the slices are super duper thin-sliced. Like, mandolin-thin. Translucent-thin. Red onion is king.
If you want it toasted, make sure the cheese and meat gets hot, but the greens/tomato/onion is added afterward so it stays cold and crisp.
Don't be afraid to STACK IT TALL. CRAM IT FULL! How many sandwiches from restaurants feel impossible to fit in your mouth at first glance? Most of 'em. Make it big. With the meat, especially, they often CRAM the meat in there. No single-layer of ham slices here.
It's ok to MIX MEATS. Fry up some bacon (extra crispy!) or crisp up some pepperoni and layer it with your turkey.
Once you're done, wrap your sandwich in parchment paper (not WAX paper, there's a difference), then slice in half. By wrapping it, you force all the ingredients to smush together and start blending flavors. This makes 'em all a little better and stops them from sliding around, so it's easy to get a bite with every ingredient at once, and stops the sandwich from actually falling apart.
--
Honestly, the biggest 'secrets' of sandwich making is:
MAXIMIZE FLAVOR. USE RICHLY FLAVORED INGREDIENTS.
SEASON ALL YOUR SHIT FOR MORE FLAVOR
DON'T BE AFRAID TO PILE ON MORE GOOD SHIT.

How to Choose The Right Rice Seasoning Packets for Different Dishes
Picking the appropriate rice seasoning packets may take an average dish and turn it into a delicious meal that pleases the palate. The right spice may improve your cuisine, regardless of what you're making—from a straightforward bowl of rice to a multicourse dinner. This is a guide to choosing the ideal rice seasoning for various foods, with an emphasis on popular choices such as nori komi furikake and rice furikake.
#1: Understand The Flavors
Rice spice packets are available in several varieties, each of which is intended to go well with a certain food. Some have a kick of spice, some are sweet, and some are savory. It will be easier to pair these packets with the right dishes if you are aware of their main flavors. An example of a condiment that works well with seafood meals is nori komi furikake, which has a base of seaweed and a faint oceanic flavor.
#2: Consider The Main Ingredients
A seasoning packet's primary elements are what determine which recipes it works well with. For instance, the ingredients of rice furikake usually consist of chopped seaweed, sesame seeds, salt, and occasionally sugar. This is a very adaptable blend that can improve the flavor of soups, salads, and even plain rice. Use seasoning packets containing dried fish or shrimp best in recipes that benefit from the flavor of fish, such as seafood stir-fries or sushi rice.
#3: Check for Spice Levels
Certain spice blends found in rice seasoning packets have the power to drastically change how spicy the meal is. Look for seasonings that emphasize more herbs and seaweed if you are cooking for folks who like mild flavors. On the other hand, choose a packet that contains wasabi or chili flakes if you want to add some spiciness to your food.
#4: Match The Seasoning to The Cooking Style
Certain kinds of seasonings are better suited for certain cooking techniques. Finer seasonings are a preferable option if you're cooking sticky rice because larger-particle seasonings may not stick as well. However, if you're making fried rice, then flavor and texture can be added by using stronger ingredients that include larger pieces of onion, dried fish, or garlic.
#5: Dietary Considerations
When selecting your spice packets, keep dietary requirements in mind at all times. Consider using gluten-free, low-sodium, or sugar-free options when preparing food for someone who has dietary requirements. Nowadays, a lot of brands accommodate different dietary needs, so that everyone can enjoy the improved flavors without worrying about their health.
#6: Experiment with Regional Flavors
Rice spice packets frequently showcase regional culinary customs. For an Asian twist, try adding Japanese ingredients like nori komi furikake to a salad or sushi. In the meanwhile, a packet containing sun-dried tomatoes and Mediterranean herbs like oregano is fantastic in risotto or as a vegetable spice for roasts.
#7: Read Reviews and Get Recommendations
Reading reviews of a product might be very beneficial if you're not sure about it. User opinions and suggestions for various rice spice packet varieties may be found on a lot of culinary websites and discussion boards. You can steer clear of spices that might not live up to your expectations by taking note of other people's experiences.
#8: Trial and Error
Ultimately, a little trial and error is usually required to obtain the ideal rice flavoring. Try experimenting with flavors and brands without fear. To try out different seasonings without committing to a huge quantity, buy tiny sachets wherever possible. Finding the ideal combination can also be achieved by experimenting with different seasoning combinations.
You can confidently browse the large selection of rice seasoning packets by being aware of these factors. The perfect seasoning may improve your meals and make every rice dish exceptional, whether you go for a traditional rice furikake or a flexible nori komi furikake.

Top Picks for the Best Dugout One-Hitter: Elevate Your Smoking Experience in 2024
What Is A One Hitter And Why Choose A Dugout?
what is dugout? - it's the perfect portable smoking tool! The dugout has two built-in compartments to keep everything you need in one place. One side holds your trusty one-hitter, the other stores your herbs or tobacco. This convenient and discreet design keeps all your supplies ready to go.Dugouts are typically made of sturdy wood or metal, built to last. And that one-hitter tucked inside is a mini smoking pipe designed for single hits. Some folks also call them bat pipes or mini pipes. The best thing about using a one-hitter? And you get great value - one-hitters cost way less than fancy pipes or bongs.
Factors To Consider When Choosing The Best Dugout One Hitter
Hey friend, choosing the right one hitter for your dugout is so key to taking your smoking game to the next level. Now, the first thing you've gotta think about is what material you want your one hitter to be made of. While metal options are durable and easy to clean, wooden dugouts provide a natural aesthetic appeal. Secondly, the size and shape of the one hitter should be suitable for your needs.A compact and discreet design allows for easy portability, while a longer length can offer a cooler smoke. Additionally, consider the presence of a built-in cleaning mechanism or storage compartment within the dugout for added convenience. Moreover, examine the quality of craftsmanship and ensure that it is well-constructed to withstand frequent use.
What material is a high quality dugout one hitter made of

In some ways I agree with this, and in others I really don’t. I think putting mechanics to gender, or identity is something that should be avoided at all costs. The worlds themselves should have space for these sorts of stories, if players want to engage with them, but I also understand a DM’s desire to avoid that.
However, there are a few race options which do emulate this, and as 5e moves into a system where racial stats are starting to be more generic / assignable as one desires (and I think other systems will begin to do this as well) these will become, I think, more prevalent in the feeling of a race.
Half orcs are and have often been used as a stand in for racial prejudice (poorly, I will add), but for queer stories of all types, tieflings and changelings have been THE pick (in ways that I think are better done, but not perfect). Tieflings can be born from anyone, they often look visibly different from humans (I associate this, in my own head, with being transgender. Make of that what you will.), and are called monsters due to association, rather than any particular act they’ve done.
Changelings, too, fit into this, in that they can be born from any humanoid, can look any way they would like, with no exact gender, which makes them decent picks for, say, a nonbinary, and especially good picks for gender fluid folk.
The trouble comes in that they aren’t human. They’re stand ins, they’re coding, and it comes with all the problems that coding always has in any media; once the metaphor is explored too deeply, it can feel very limiting, or like trying to fit a square in a round hole. By limiting these characters to these races, it becomes taboo at certain tables to then play such characters outside those races. Playing a tiefling is fine, good even, but playing a transwoman orc is seen as “weird and gross”. Playing a changeling is fine, but playing a gender-fluid halfling is seen as “strange. Why even do this? Why not play a changeling?” There is an inherent call to put certain attributes of characters into mechanics.
But what it really does is obfuscate and segregate out these character concepts. You are not wrong when you say that these settings are trying to not tell queer storylines by making queer folk accepted by standard. There is inherent resistance by cisfolk to these characters and storylines, and by forcing them into certain races, they make it so much easier to ignore. Tieflings and changelings are rare. No one has to include even a single one in their game, and it’s actually really easy to never have one without even trying. Oh, the human town fears you a little? That’s because they’ve never seen a tiefling before, chill out. There could be changelings, but they could also be doppelgängers! Who knows! If you make a trans gender human, suddenly that easy to shift blame is gone, and you’ll find entire tables frustrated by it because… it’s too real. “I didn’t want to deal with humans being evil to humans, I wanted humans being evil to half orcs and tieflings and changelings”.
The instant you step out of line with coding, the game becomes fundamentally different. I would say better. It deepens and enriches the world, so long as the other players and dm aren’t thin skinned folk who just wanted an easy escape.
This is my hot take of the century. Play games where anyone can be anything, from transmen goblins to non-binary dwarves to tieflings who have loving parents.
Further thoughts.
There is a tendency to write settings - particularly for interactive media like ttrpgs, larps, etc - that are essentially gender-blind, where you can create whoever you want without that having an effect on the game. The decision to be gay, or a woman, or trans, or a gay trans woman with pink hair is an aesthetic choice that will not give you a meaningfully different experience in the game.
This rather kneecap's the setting's ability to tell queer stories, imho. If we take it as read that queerness refers to gender- and sexuality-based identities and behaviours that fall outside of the societal norms, then the experience of falling outside those societal norms is (rather tautologically) a key element of queerness.
So, in a completely gender-blind setting, one can't - tautologically - be gender-nonconforming. There is no expectation to conform to. The experience of queerness, of being outside of societal norms, becomes null and void. Such a setting will feature homosexuality, but it won't feature gay pride, and nor will it need to as none of the societal forces that led to the pride movement exist.
This is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, a world where one is not oppressed for one's identity is an enjoyable world to explore for what should be obvious reasons. On the other hand, it becomes impossible to tell (say) a coming-out story in a world where there's no closet to be in to begin with.
There is also the element that whilst a setting may say its gender-blind, it's still written and played in by people from the real world, who still subconsciously inherit real-world biases, and this can be reflected in the world.
While (say) women might have just as much right to political power as men, if in practice the people with political power are disproportionately men, that sexism is still present. Far from removing it, the gender-blindness of the setting simply obfuscates it, and often actively proves an obstacle to addressing it; one cannot call somebody out in character for sexism in a setting where sexism doesn't exist, no matter how sexist they're being.
(Similar biases around sexuality, transness, polyamory, kink, aceness, etc also creep in).
(In many cases, this can also apply to other axes of marginalisation, such as race, etc. However, in a lot of settings this doesn't apply the same way. Many fantasy settings are deeply opinionated about a character's ancestry; see the D&D skull-callipers explaining that elves are just more intelligent and agile than everybody else, and this being a mechanically enforced fact in the world.)
My point, anyway, is that in these cases efforts towards inclusivity can paradoxically erase that which they seek to include. One cannot represent the lived experience of a marginalised identity in a setting that totally denies the existence of that marginalisation.
