I dreamt i was playing music and i porque like three different songs: a symphony, a concerto, and the third one idk what it was, bit apparently it was called Laboratorium Symphonioum, and it was used in a lot of movies that had angry bees in them, and that one of those movies came out every year. But. They were. B movies. About bees.

well that was terrible
i mean. it was a really good movie. intermittently excellent even. but. i kinda got the premise mixed up with that other zoo movie and expected a happy go lucky children‘s movie about a family acquiring a zoo. not a coming of age war movie that set new standard for depicting families during war time for me, and where you really aren’t sure if it‘ll have a happy end, and also i didn’t expect to cry 3 (!) times during the last 40 or so minutes, and also WHAT THE FUCK. that was a good movie and i think i‘m gonna be thinking about it for a while.
Tumblr media
this is so cool my guys!!! last time i was obsessed with damian o'hare, this movie was about to come out and i was sooo pissed i didn’t get to see it. and then the obsession stopped and i mostly forgot about it. now, 7 years later, i‘m back on my bs and BOY I‘M WATCHING THAT MOVIE NOW! 2017 me would be so happy 🩷

I didnt want to be negative about natla, i didnt want to hate it, i was really really rooting for it at first, even when the original creators exited the project i was still being positive about it.
On its own this is a good show. Ive seen ppl criticise acting or cgi, but i thought both of those were good. The casting (with one exception) is amazing.
And thats what makes me so mad, the show really had all the requirements to be great, but in their idiotic attempt to appeal to "Fans of got" they committed the exact same mistake the got writers did, namely thinking they can or need to improve the original.
Natla is chock full of unnecessary little changes, but these changes add the fuck up. Taking away so many of kataras lines or actions and giving them to someone else? Removing her anger about sexism, but not the sexism itself? Aang can fly? Aang didnt run away from his Avatar duties, taking away a big part of his character development? Cutting out ALL the slapstick humour? The weird ass first 5 minutes? Fucking making us watch the airnation genocide? And thats just ep 1.
Also why why whyyyyyyyyyyyy the fuck did it need to be dark and gritty?? WHY. they said they wanted to appeal to the original audience and got Fans, like, i dont even have words for this, why??? Why even try to adapt atla when you plan on fundamentally changing the vibe and style of the original Show, why not just pick literally any other grimdark fantasy instead??
I feel so bad for this cast, they truly deserved better, but the producers of natla clearly only had profits on their minds and tried to 'widen' the intended audience by adding dark and edgy shit (as if the og atla Fans werent enough) while also removing amything deemed too controversial (the sexism discussions, character flaws, putting sokka in make up,...). Also "show dont tell" is dead i guess.
This sucks man, i wish the cast all the best and a successful career, but i skimmed through reviews of the show and needless to say i wont watch more than the first ep. This is genuinely disappointing.
Again, on its own this would be a great show, but as an adaptation of atla it falls completely flat bc it misunderstands whst made atla so good to begin with. Youre ofc free to enjoy it, but dont accuse ppl who didnt like it of being haters or purists or overly critical, bc i really really wanted to enjoy this, i wasnt gunning to hatewatch the show :/
Man, fuck grimdark adaptations, all my homies hate grimdark adaptations.

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD
SPOILERS FOR NEW MARVEL STUFF! ⚠️
Finally got around to watching The Marvels on Disney +!!!!! It’s the best mcu film this phase istg omg it’s SO GOOD and immediately you can tell it was written by a woman NOT TO MWNTION THE INSANE END CREDIT SCENES WTFFFFF KATE BISHOP PIZZA THE DOG AND XMEN?!?!??!!!!!!! Omg I’m ecstatic this is the best marvel film in years it’s finally giving avengers early phase vibes! And I’m actually happy with every single plot moment! Unlike no way home where there were many questionable plot moments and bad scenes and bad cgi and multiverse of madness was something different entirely like I loved the horror and stuff and it made sense but as a whole that works with the rest of the marvel universe I didn’t like how it went and wandas “death” or “fake death” and the whole x men stuff. Loved America in that tho! Her whole moment made sense and ugh I can’t explain it properly plus the shitshow that was the She Hulk series and overall it just made me lose faith in marvel and that’s why I didn’t see The marvels in cinema like I usually do bc guardians of the galaxy 3 was so shite and I thought this would too maybe that’s why it flopped cuz the hype on past films wasn’t lived up to. But this FINALLY brings back early marvel vibes and I’m so into it. (Plus the reign of the cats 🐈‍⬛ 🐈😆)
Cuz as much as I liked NWH there were questionable parts yk, Dr Strange characterised Wanda badly from start to finish and didn’t do her justice, Wakanda Forever was amazing don’t get me wrong I really loved it and cried A LOT, but I wasn’t too keen on the whole Namor thing or unnecessary deaths, and some characters really just deserved better than what they got, like Okoye.. and Black Widow was great but it could’ve been a bit better with cgi and plot-wise like the deleted scenes should’ve been kept and so on.
For the first time I just really enjoyed every part of this film, since marvel has gone downhill lately, this is new for me. also I loved the queer undertones for Kamala and Carol, although they should’ve been braver and put it in explicitly if they wanted to show Carol and Valkyrie together instead of the kiss on the cheek and no talk of them being together. But headed in the right direction for sure and not to mention the Kate and Kamala scene? Female avengers team? Finally not outnumbered by men? Also I really ship Kate and Yelena so I hope she comes onto the team too, though she might just stick with the Thunderbolts antihero theme. I love that it’s so clearly written by women and directed by them plus the brilliant casting and having the villain also be a woman and with a realistic villainisation like I get why she turned out the way she did, she just wanted her home back for her people, also it’s Zawe Ashton, Tom Hiddlestons wife so it would be cool to see them act together perhaps, but either way brilliant casting and script and everything, I love Kamala really speaking for the fans in a lot of it, and the musical scene was fun in a mystical way, like when we first got introduced to Asgard way back when, I just wish we saw what happened there at least a small look in at the end with Carol checking in on them because they left in the middle of a battle and then we don’t find out what happened to that planet. But other than that small detail the film was fantastic and I loved how even Goose got a good storyline.
(My dreamteam avengers would be Bucky🦾, Yelena🕷️, Kate🏹, Carol💫, Kamala👊, Monica🌠, Shuri🐾, Riri 🛠️(ironheart), America⭐️ and Cassie 🐜 and Morgan Stark. Plus some xmen if that’s now an option?? And AOS team but marvel would never do that
Maybe Peter🕸️ Sean⭕️, Wanda and Moon Knight🌙🤺 boys too but idk )

THE VOYAGE HOME breakdown
i liveblogged this on the notes app on my phone bc i could not be bothered w tumblr while i watched it. 10/10 movie i love spock's little bandana
first scene was really rough bc they made us watch the enterpise blow up again. i did NOT like reliving that. she's a beautiful woman and i loved her
kirk being in trouble was so funny. like hes been in trouble in tos before but not THAT kind of trouble
did gasp aloud when they said vulcan exile. kirk spock and bones were on VULCAN EXILE for THREE MONTHS and you're telling me they didn't fuck. impossible. i have so much fanfiction to read
gasped when i saw spock far away on that cliff too. i went from watching the movie to doing whatever it is i do when i see spock on my screen. i was so instantly invested like 100x more than i had been previously. cathy made fun of me for calling it the spock movie but lo: there was spock
thrilled to see his mom again even though she fucking sucks. i thought she had died or something since she wasn't in search for spock lol he doesn't need that!!
me when they mentioned yorktown: omg another aos reference
i knew this movie was about whales but not in what capacity. so when the probe showed up we went back and forth for a really long time on whether this was The Whale. we were very impressed with its little laser
uhura remains the most beautiful woman to ever live. she gets hotter in every film idk how she does that
i liked when kirk gave bones a direct order to like "stay here" or whatever and he said with his mouth "no way" and followed him out anyway. fucking hilarious there's no use trying to hide behind rank anymore captain. their relationships have evolved so wonderfully <3
the time travel cgi was wack. idk what they were doing but it made me uncomfortable
"we can get back but only with NUCLEAR POWER" it's just like back to the future fr
spock's bandana.
i knew he wore it in this film because i have seen fanart and a couple of gifs but it was even better to see it in person as it were
spock was great in this film. unclear how much of his personal memories he had back, i would like to assume most of them? but back at factory settings nonetheless. i liked getting to watch jim and bones teach him to be "human" all over again, even down to jim asking to be CALLED jim, instead of by his title. i have a feeling we're gonna get a lot of that with data in tng and knowing i will love data is all that makes it possible for me to part from spock. spock failing at swearing, being bad at lying, being bad at loving italian - bones said he wasn't firing on all thrusters and he was right, but he's still competent enough to get them back to their own year. i also really liked him knocking out the dude with the radio lol. AND THEN EVERYONE CLAPPED which would have been ridiculous for anyone but spock.
whaling videos sad. i do love that this movie was pro-whale propaganda...i feel like we got a lot of that in the late 80s/early 90s, so maybe whales really WERE gonna go extinct and we saved them thru the power of cheesy movies. one likes to dream
kirk is losing his touch as a honeypot. he so throughly failed to seduce this biologist it's embarrassing. she only cares about whales, dude.
scotty hunting and pecking on the keyboard at the speed of light is me fr. i never learned to touch type and now i have a role model. i mean you can't expect HIM to touch type he's missing a fucking finger
giving the molecule to those guys early is ALSO an aos reference. this is where spock got the idea in the 2009 movie i bet :(
chekov being russian when he got caught is both more hilarious and more distressing, like. considering.
"he is a man of deep feelings" on vulcan this counts as a slur
extremely skeptical of them taking the whale biologist until she pointed out that if whales were extinct there would be no whale biologists in the future and so they needed her. fair point, movie
i feel like movies just never have real water anymore. is that just me? 90s movies had water all the time and these days you never see any real water. shit's expensive. they just cgi it.
THEIR SWIM PARTY CELEBRATIONNNN it was so good. jim dunking people in the water but also william shatner would have drowned in leonard nimoy wasn't holding him up lol that shit looked choppy as hell
i recognized their outfits at the trial all together like that from the photo in aos...made me sad
GIVING JIM THE CAPTAINCY BACK...god FINALLY. the sheer hell he goes through as a retired man...let him work...
i wasn't gonna cry during this movie but when spock said i feel fine i did in fact: cry. HE FEELS FINE.
AND FINALLY. ENTERPRISE BEING BACK. perfect touch to a perfect movie
tonight we start tng (we're going in release order) and i am sooo nervous to leave them but at least we have two more tos movies left so it'll be a gradual transition...ik im gonna like tng but i don't think i'll ever love any star trek character more than i love spock. hes everything to me!!!

Ranting about blands movie under the cut idk if people care about spoilers but I put them there SOOO
HO BOY. I don't even know where to fucking start??? Max keeps saying it was like they opened the wiki page and just threw darts at it and said yeah that's good enough!
None of the actors suited their characters; which I had a feeling going in but I had hoped it would be like. Slightly better than the trailers painted it as? Absolutely not lmao
Weird tragic backstory (I GUESS) for Lilith while she looks 50+ BUT Moxxi and Tannis knew her as a child lmao and she actively looked older than both of them in present day
Tiny Tina was a CLONE???? Created by Atlas CEO who wanted to use her to open the vault and shit. The villain was very much a bootleg handsome jack with an awful accent who didn't really play into the plot until it was convenient for him to show up. Parts of Tina's backstory were obviously supposed to be Angel and Jack related.
I am SO GLAD THEY DIDN'T USE HANDSOME JACK. I CANNOT IMAGINE HOW HE'D HAVE BEEN BUTCHERED.
None of the dialogue was well written or memorable. I couldn't tell you a single line now that *checks watch* it's been like 40 minutes since I watched it.
The fight scenes felt cheap and flat and boring and there were no stakes in them! I also don't think psychos would just patiently stand around and let the villain monologue and barter with the heroes LMFAO (The psychos also looked way too clean to be living violently on pandora IMO)
The gunplay wasn't even fun or exciting! The CGI effects reminded me of late 2000's movies and not in like...a good way.
There was no heartwarming fuzzy feelings for the little found family they tried to make at the end? I genuinely would not have cared what happened bc they didn't build up any of the characters or relations to be anything special. Attempts were made but it never GOT that far?
It wasn't even fun in like a bad movie way? It was just so flat and boring and forgettable and it's so strange that they took borderlands as the source material and didn't even play into anything that makes the games FUN?????

So I finally got around to watching the Yu Yu Hakusho live action series, and you know what? I really, really enjoyed it!
(spoilers under the cut)
Like, of course I immediately was like, "This was not how Yusuke died..." and of course in my brain every time something was not accurate, I was like, "This happened like this, wait Hiei should already have the Jagan?? Wasn't the fight with Goki in the woods? The mirror looks like a tablet sgahdakj" BUT, I completely understand that they had to do what they had to do with the time they had to do it in, and I think the way they reworked the story to fit what they needed to fit worked out pretty well!
The fight scenes were GREAT imo b( ̄▽ ̄)d They were fun to watch, the cgi interactions were really good, and the team not being afraid to make sure we see exactly how bad everyone got the shit beat out of them? *chef's kiss* The blood and injuries were done so well too. Like when Hiei got that slice on his face, and the next time the camera cuts to him the blood had run down his cheek? I was obsessed with that. And even after the fights, the characters still had scabs and bruises covering their faces, UGH, I really liked that.
Boton was the absolute cutest! I just wish she at least had her oar (they could have even given it to her when they were in the boat!!), and I wish she, at some point, took a baseball bat to a demon, lol. Keiko having a couple badass moments was amazing, and also Keiko being just SUCH a good character! I love Keiko sm you guys QuQ
Oh, and Yusuke's wake picture? They understood the assignment (unlike the anime 😂)
Speaking of, Takumi Kitamura? An AMAZING Yusuke! Like, he was perfection I really, really loved him ouo All of the actors were so good though, like, all of them I think did an amazing job (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ) (Elder Toguro was WILD, and I respect that.)
I think the biggest thing for me is because they didn't have much time, the boys weren't really able to flesh out their relationships w each other. It takes a WHILE and a lot of hardships to overcome to get to Toguro in the anime/manga, so the boys all have already had a lot of relationship building and teamwork integration by then, and you can really feel the tension of the final round of the Dark Tournament. It's good that Kuabawra was the one Toguro "killed" in canon, since he and Yusuke do have a longer history together, so that still worked, but yeah, unfortunately Kurama and Hiei were just very new, and though Kurama felt indebted (and I'm sure respect) towards Yusuke for sacrificing half his life (even though I'm kind of unsure, but didn't the mirror spare both of their lives completely bc Yusuke offered his own life? I kind of forget, but I thought that's what happened), the bond is nothing like in the anime at the point of Toguro, and Hiei's relationship with them was pretty much nonexistent, not even super close w Kurama, so I guess the gratitude of them putting their lives on the line for Yukina, and respect seeing how they all used every bit of their strength trying to take down Toguro was enough for him to warm up to them a bit, but it would have been nice to at least have had some kind of mission where they all had to work together before going to the island.
BUT, again, I understand why things had to play out as they did, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, and it just made me want to go and watch the anime again ouo

Can we get the Star Seven's favorite TV shows or Movies if you haven't yet? <3
AYYYY that’s what’s up!!! I did OrangeJuiceVerse Stan and Kyle’s favorite media here (shoutout to the wife for askin) but here’s the rest of the seven!
KENNY!!! Ok I cannot stress enough how much of a Muppets enthusiast this man is. Kenny absolutely wanted to work for Jim Henson Creature Shop at some point (same) and he fucking LOVES anything remotely related!!! He’s also a big horror fan due to the fact that he’s seen a lot of gnarly shit in his (consistently interrupted by deaths) life, and OH. MY. GOD. he fucking loves Troma Entertainment. Lloyd Kaufman and his gross ass vulgar comedy is Kenny’s lifeblood. He introduced the m5 to Toxic Avenger and Shakespeare’s Shitstorm (idk if that one’s actually out yet my partner’s just friends with Lloyd so we got an early copy) and literally every single one of his movies are so gross but Kenny very much enjoys them, out here casually enjoying the Tromaville High trilogy without flinching once. And he LOVES watching buddy comedies with Stan!!! The two of them will be up to all hours just watching Superbad and Clerks and any movie where two guys are in silly situations smh. And this guy ADORES the marvel netflix shows, especially Daredevil omg and he went feral for The Punisher. Kenny has also seen every Barbie movie ever
Tweek! He is a CHRONIC rewatcher!!! He’s seen Sherlock more times than he can count. Any show that’s formulaic, he likes it bc it isn’t unpredictable, so think kids shows. BUT!!! He also very much enjoys the most obscure gory art pieces, loves early film like A Trip To The Moon and Stagecoach, and adores Buster Keaton. At some point Stan got him into Supernatural and Tweek was TERRIFIED at points, but he loves the lore and the attention to detail. And he laughs his ASS OFF at Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia but it stresses him out lmao
Craig watched The Orville and absolutely lost his mind getting obsessed with it, he may be an astronomy professor and generally into space, but he can take or leave Star Wars. And Star Trek. His biggest guilty pleasure with movies that only Tweek knows about? This stoic mf fucking LOVES musicals. Like if Stan knew, OH BOY he’d be over at apt 2 constantly hanging out just because Craig is watching The Greatest Showman. Craig doesn’t discriminate against objectively bad cgi either, so he genuinely enjoyed the 2019 Cats and rewatches it frequently. He loves Seven Brides For Seven Brothers and introduced it to the rest of the star sev (Cartman loved it, Kyle was repulsed by “Bless Your Beautiful Hide”). One of his favorite shows is How It’s Made lmfao and he ADORES Mythbusters.
Marj omg she’s such a romantic, movies based on Jane Austen novels? She’s there. Bridgerton? Yep. But ALSO!!! Any movie that’s very race against time or like a movie where someone is falsely accused of a crime, she’s watchin it, and DUDE she LOVES CARTOONS!!! Her parents only ever let her watch pbs kids and she was SUCH an Arthur Girlie!!! Omg Fetch was a fave too!!! Also shes showed the group some DARK movies, like it was her turn to pick on movie night in the Survivor House and she put on The Black Phone and everyone was like JESUS CHRIST MARJ WHAT bc they were expecting her to pick Fern Gully or something again but nope she was like “fellas it’s really cerebral and dynamic” and literally Stan got so freaked he had to leave the room
Cartman is a HUGE reality show guy!!! He and Marj are sittin there watching the bachelor with popcorn and a love of drama!!! LITERALLY he lives for the arguments in Dance Moms and the pettiness like “oh you guys Jill bought a bench for Abby this is about to be freakin sweet” lmfao messy king. He’s definitely more of a show guy than a movie guy, but as long as there’s significant arguments he’s clocked in! Also when he was watching Hannibal 24/7 Kyle was VERY concerned lmao. Cartman’s favorite movie is ‘Alive’ (I think that’s what it’s called?) JUST because it scared kenny so bad when the characters had to eat each other. His favorite show is Lost and he was out here chomping his popcorn and that scene in the episode where Kate has her shirt off bc they ran into a swarm of bees and Charlie goes “I think it was full of C’s” and Cartman is like “hell no those are A cups at best” (this is a very specific hc I’m sorry) but lmfaoooo Cartman absolutely sends me into orbit bc he absolutely doesn’t shut up when he’s watching ANYTHING!!! His favorite musical is Phantom of The Opera.
There ya go my dude! Thank you again for asking I LOVE getting asks especially abt OJV and I deadass had so much fun thinking on this!

October scary movie review roundup:
I decided to really put forth an effort to celebrate this being Halloween month by watching as many horror films as I can. requirements aren't too strict but i'm only counting movies that are new to me, not old favorites. youtube has a ton of movies for free so i've been sifting through those and found some decent ones. if anyone has any good recommendations please lmk!
(i'm not like a huge slasher/gore fan but i don't mind it if it isn't in excess in a film, which crosses out a ton lol. i'm unfortunately squeamish about that stuff but i've always prefered thrillers/psychological horror and stuff of that ilk anyway. )
list of films watched so far:
-The Terror (Netflix)
(actually started this last month, nearly done with it so i won't rate it yet. acting is great, but the CGI of the monster is kind of bad imo)
-Grave Encounters (Free on YT)
i love a good found footage film. this one was a pleasant surprise but too predictable. acting was good, ending was unsatisfying. 5/10
-The Haunting (Free on YT)
didn't know this was an adaptation of The Haunting of Hill House until it started, hated the changes they made. but it did solve a long childhood mystery of mine: once as a kid my fam and i went furniture shopping and this movie was playing on a huge tv. i paid attention to it only for a minute and saw the scene where Nell sees her reflection's pregnancy belly growing (for context Nell herself wasn't pregnant) and screams in terror and runs away and then i walked away. never knew it was from this movie but always wondered. mystery solved!) CGI wasn't terrible most of the time but when it was bad, it was bad. i hate what they did to the characters, hate the changes from the source material (wtf was that bedroom SA scene??? ...was the ceiling going to impregnate her???) all the iconic moments from the book that were added to the movie felt like flimsy afterthoughts. marcia gay harden, i can believe as Nell. Catherine Zeta Jones, I can believe as Theodora. Liam Neeson as the doctor, sure. Why the fuck is Owen Wilson in this. (3/10. watched on youtube.)
-Hell House LLC (Youtube)
another pleasant found footage surprise. i really enjoyed this one and will most likely watch again. good/decent acting and the suspense did get to me, particularly in the scenes with the basement/rising tension in the cast/clown statue. The found footage thing is most genuine here, where in the following sequels it feels hamfisted and not as genuine bc everyone and their mom is doing a fucking documentary or news bit on the hotel. also a bit predictable but they nailed the suspense and the buildup to the climax was pretty well done. CGI not good but briefly used at the end, didn't bother me like it did in the sequels. 8.5/10
-Hell House LLC-The Abbadon Hotel /Hell House LLC-Lake of Fire (Also free on YT)
notably worse than the original. acting was especially bad in The Abbadon Hotel. Both films suffer from "we-don't-trust-our-viewers" syndrome where they insert so many freaking flashbacks to the original that it feels insulting they don't expect the audience to remember what happened before. flashbacks could make up a good third of both movies. hated most of the cast for The Abbadon Hotel but Lake of Fire was much better. The actor for Tully was awful in all three movies. CGI was terrible but sparsely used, at least. Both movies relied on the creepy clown gimmick way too much which felt like a huge waste considering the setting is a demonic/haunted hotel full of other potential props/settings that could've been used more for a good scare. the ending to the trilogy as a whole was fine. Abbadon gets a 2.5/10 and Lake of Fire gets 5.5. I would def watch Lake of Fire again but Abbadon was a slog.
-In the Tall Grass (Netflix)
this has been on my netflix queue for YEARS and i literally only just watched it last night. based off a Stephen King work and I love SK so I had high hopes and wasn't let down. I haven't read the novella but this was a good movie on its own. normally i don't like time-loops as a plot device but it worked really well here and the acting was good. patrick wilson is a sleeper fave of mine, he was great in this and i've never seen him in such a charismatic to super super creepy role before so he nailed it although when that scene hit i was literally cringing away from my laptop. the child actor in this is also really good, i felt for him at the end. would definitely watch this again and i'm interested in the book now. really good suspense/acting/soundtrack. i like that they never fully explained the phenomenon behind the giant black rock/ time fuckery in the tall grass or the mysterious alien grass people. IMO horror works best sometimes when it is left to the audience's imagination or when there's gaps left empty in the lore. 8/10.
-Barbarian (Hulu)
i've been really interested in this for years but never got around to watching it bc i don't like sitting in movie theaters and i'm slow to gettting to new media. but i knew zach cregger from his days in the WKUK and loved that and had heard good things about this. (also apparently he's developing a new Resident Evil movie or something now?? I'm excited.) these days i don't/rarely watch full movie trailers because they give so much away so i tend to want to go in fresh. i've avoided full spoilers for this movie up till now aside from some vague mentions of stuff so i knew there was a certain theme in the movie. overall it was solid, really tense first half with that red herring and really good acting from the female lead, i don't recall her name. when act two came on i was genuinely shocked and thought the website had glitched out or something, wasn't expecting that.
Last Podcast on the Left just did a series on Josef Fritzl (huge trigger warning if you decide to look him up) and that case must have heavily inspired the movie because there were a lot of parallels I couldn't help but notice. Overall fairly disturbing but I do wish the ending was a little different. I like the significance of what happens but idk, felt like it needed a little something more. Even one line of dialogue could have bolstered that, because I know Tess was thinking it but I needed to hear her say it to REDACTED.
(and what happened to REDACTED'S body? he's never shown again. did the REDACTED eat it? was he buried? did i miss something?)
-The Fourth Kind (free on YT)
awful. awful. awful. maybe one truly scary moment. the ending was bullshit. acting was whatever. too much screeching audio and my ears can't handle that. this movie is always being hyped online as so intense and scary yet i couldn't stop rolling my eyes. huge disappointment. 2/10 and that's me being generous.
--The Omen (1976) (Hulu)
admittedly i watched this when i was a kid but i barely remember it so it counts. sound mixing was fucking awful, for starters. dialogue is a whisper yet the soundtrack (heavy on ominous chanting in latin and screaming and spooky music) is SO damn loud i kept having to raise and lower the volume. a good flick for its time, i guess, but I couldn't get into it. If there's a more modern version I might check it out. Gregory Peck is always a treat but man, I got so mad when he's safe in Rome and he calls his wife, who's in mortal peril with a half body cast and alone in a hospital, to meet with his contact and fly to him in Rome. You couldn't go get her yourself?? You just condemned her, idiot, and you knew she was gonna die. For fuck's sake. Then he has the nerve to get all droopy and sad when he gets the call like five minutes later that she's fucking dead. Not scary. Suspense is killed by goofy spooky music. Gregory Peck's silver-fox hotness is offset by his character's stupid reticence to believe the facts before him until it’s too late. 3/10.
-The Inkeepers (Peacock)
i didn't hate it but i also didn't love it. i love anything about a haunted house or a haunted hotel, and this one being a haunted hotel sounded intriguing but ultimately it felt like it fumbled itself over and over. kind of boring, tbh? really unsatisfying ended even if it was a bit gutsy to kill the main character. sorry for spoilers here but i don't think anyone's gonna race to watch this one lol. i'd never heard of this movie until it got recommended to me. didn't realize lena dunham was an exec producer on this until the credits rolled. 3/10

I watched Love Lies Bleeding tonight and I really liked it. I remember seeing a lot of stuff about people getting nauseous in the theater but I legitimately don’t know what part. I’m not sure if I’m just desensitized to movie gore or what, and tbh I didn’t even think there were a ton of scenes with gore, or at least…no more than your average horror movie. It didn’t linger on anything too long either. There was a vomiting scene that had some body horror, but even that looked really cgi and dreamlike so I genuinely don’t know. I just feel like there are movies out there that are way worse/more disturbing with that type of content, and I was nervous about it before going in because sometimes it does get to me a little. Not trying to me like “oh I am so brave, I can stomach so much” or whatever. Imo it wasn’t really that bad.
Anyway, it was really good and Katy O’Brien was hot. I’m not a Kristen Stewart fan and never really have been (I just find her boring/she does nothing for me), but I tolerated her long enough for the movie and thought it was all brutal in a “fun” way (idk it was over the top to an almost silly degree and sometimes I like that). Made me want to go to the gym again too lol since rn I’ve just been working out at home mostly. Also it was only like 1 hr 45 minutes which I’m thankful for bc I am not good at sitting for really long movies. I recommend watching it if you’re in the mood for muscles and wlw and violence.
The other movie I saw recently was Longlegs and I feel extremely apathetic about that one. Had some cool cinematography but idk the story was forgettable for me. The other thing is like, yeah I know it’s about a ~crazy~ serial killer, but it felt a little bit outdated with how it portrayed that in terms of like oh look at this crazy guy isn’t he soooo crazy and weird??? It felt like the punchline was mental illness, so again, meh. Was nice to see the girl from It Follows in another movie though.
In other news, I finished the book Earthlings, and now that was disturbing. I thought at some point it might get less disturbing, but it just progressively got more disturbing lol. The themes were really good though and I enjoyed the writing style. Now that I’ve finished that I’ve moved onto Count of Monte Cristo and have what I imagine is going to be a bad lesbian romance novel lined up for the one after.

"uUhHh AcTuaLLy sTePhEn HiLLeNbUrG wOuLd'Ve HaTeD-" no literally just stfu
the staff are trying their best to make an entertaining show and he would be very proud of how they added their own touch to his show PLUS this show is literally hurting nobody they're just switching things up a lil bit
but yeah go off about how the show hasn't been as good as the eps you saw 20 billion years ago when you were literally in the target demographic bc the creator is dead and his friends/co-workers are """ruining his legacy"""
yeah real mature argument you got there buddy 😐
Tbh ur right but also I'm mildly confused if you mean this as a general response to the fans or me specifically because I used to be against the spinoffs and stuff years ago though I realize I was wrong and I love the spinoffs now but my old posts are still out there :/
Still I agree, Hillenburg left the show in the hands of the crew, particularly people who worked on the show since the beginning. He never said no spinoffs, he said he didn't see any, this interview that's often misquoted is from almost 15 years ago. Even the ex crew members who were critical of the spinoffs said cartoon reviewers twisted their words.
We do know Hillenburg was involved with kamp koral. Literally the 3rd movie was in CGI as a test to see how CG would work since Hillenburg was skeptical of it but he ended up liking it. The 3rd movie was in production since 2016, Hillenburg was CERTAINLY involved in it. The movie was originally set to come out in 2019 but kept being delayed. It did finally come out in 2020 but a year delay isn't enough to create the whole kamp koral concept. It was conceived while Hillenburg was alive. We KNOW so because the literal concept of Spongebob going to camp was his idea. Hillenburg loved camping and thr outdoors. It was something personal to him. It's actually really unfair how much the show gets dragged due to misinformation and inflammatory statements done by cartoon reviewers. I'm not a fan of kamp koral but I'm being honest when I say it was treated REALLY unfairly.
All this drama about Hillenburg's legacy ended up causing so much damage. Do you have any idea how many crew members were harassed and sent death threats over this? Some privates their social media, some abandoned their social media. Someone said Spongebob fans are the sonic fans of cartoons. Tbh I don't think they're that bad but they honestly have a shitty track record that are sometimes ENCOURAGED by some cartoon reviewers. I've been into the show's online fandom since I was 13, you cannot believe how many times there was drama over fans sending death threats to the writers. I can't even count it on my fingers.
People wonder why the Patrick Star Show made fun of cartoon reviewers but y'all don't know how hostile some people were.
Also for the record I'm not against being critical of the show. I've done so many times in the past myself. But at the end of the day, this show is people's jobs, they have their own lives, be respectful and be reasonable. Of course this is the internet so those two qualities are hard to find on here but I'm just saying.

The nitty gritty is watering down katara's character so she's just a meek girl ? Your lying If you really think that's the same character. The producers said they would take an axe to the main characters and that's where the show really suffers...also nothing is perfect people like you is why we get stuck with mediocrity
?? I finished episode 5 but what😭 how is katara just a meek girl, i feel like yes she has a little less rage but other than that she shows that shes smart and powerful and her own person? Explain what is watered down i feel like animation usually over-exaggerates facial expressions and voices for the most part, so i’m not surprised that katara has more subtle strength so far, and also the actress has a very kind face, but i think shes still able to show some of that anger. (I havent watched the water master fight yet so maybe thats where you’re talking about, so i cant speak on that)
Idk what taking an axe to the main characters means (like really cutting them apart? Cuz i doubt they would promote a show by saying its gonna be bad but who knows). But i feel like the characters are all pretty accurate with how they carry themselves, of course they’re younger so acting wont be perfect but i think the imperfections are what brings them to life. I know a lot of people hate the writing, i feel like it’s quite similar to the show? (Though its been maybe 3-4 years since i last rewatched it) and some lines especially from something previously animated are gonna sound awkward in real life, which is why generally i believe live actions arent necessary for any animation, though in this case i’m really enjoying just rewatching atla and my childhood be brought to life.
Nothing is perfect: ok i was using perfect mostly because i was very excited about it, of course i know theres things that could be changed to improve it but a lot of those things are impossible (like you cant get an actress thats EXACTLY katara and will make everyone happy, because shes a drawing) but overall, i think the landscapes come close to perfect (i’m just really into fantasy scenes and i think it’s so beautiful and impressive to see things like the omashu supply rail and the air temple come to life. And zuko’s boat looks so awesome and so accurate too.) And i thought the cgi looked slightly silly at first (especially air) but then i realized that we were always seeing drawings of aangs air in the animation which would look even stupider irl so i made my peace pretty quickly.
People like me is why we get stuck with mediocrity… hm. I feel like my opinion probably has nothing to do with what comes out on tv, especially because in this society haters have the real power, and you guys tearing it down are more likely to get it cancelled. I don’t think any production team takes an animated film or show and thinks ‘yea im gonna make this absolutely awful,’ (though i’m really not sure what they were thinking when making the pjo movie, its good as a standalone but they went so off course from the plot…) of course they’re all just trying to fit what they think into the show and express their own opinions, which are ultimately going to be a lot different than some people watching it.
Overall, ok i haven’t watched the og in years, so my memory on comparing each episode of the show to the live action is not going to be at the level of others (which i think boosts the enjoyability 100x over). But as i watch it, i remember tons of parts of the animation, and it makes me super happy that it has the same air as the show, albeit slightly more serious because they can’t fit all the funny filler episodes (if they ever created a live action lost appa episode i would lose it that cannot happen).
Maybe i sounded rude in my original post (i changed it quickly bc it was very angry at first lol) so sorry i know you’re all entitled to your opinion, it’s just i was SO EXCITED and then checked the tag on tumblr only to see that everyone hated it… i always feel inferior to people who really like films etc because i tend to enjoy things that other people hate, (like i really enjoyed the avatar way of water movie even if it was super long, and i know people DESPISED it). So maybe i seem like someone who is satisfied with mediocrity, and maybe i am, i focus mostly on the backgrounds and beauty of movies because im really into art and much less on acting and script (though i can appreciate beautiful characters, i was Blown Away by live action suki and hair down sokka my jaw dropped fr) i agree i am fairly simple to please in terms of this type of thing.
SORRY THIS IS GETTING QUITE LONG IM SURE U WONT READ IT ALL but i hope ur finding joy in life since live action atla is obviously not doing it for u

this is going to be my running commentary for the 2001 a space odecyecs (can't spell lmai
the monkey part is so wierdd, it is so obviously some dude in a fursuit, topped off by the noises and music. my dog is growling at them and intensely staring at the screen.
the massive pole thing? idk what that was abiut. and then they start beating eachother, and It suddenly cuts to outer space? okay.
my dog is so interested, not taking his eyes off it. abolutely captivated.
really cool soundtrack btw, I really like it
first part of characters(ur title):
his daughter just wants another telephone :(. I am so confused rn, what's that really long convo around the table? who knows.
PASSENGERS ARE ADVISED TO READ INSTRUCTIONS VLBEFORE USING THE TOILET XD !!!!??????!!
there is no speaking again? really cool music but I need to know what's going on. please
oooh a meeting. I wish subtitles were available I am not processing any of this
the CGI is fabulous I love it so much
they going into that base thingy now with the horrific audio, like, it doesn't need to go in for so long :(, it's too much for my head to handle. I hope it has a purpose, to build tension or smth cause it's really terrible(in the way that it's well done/made but a bad noise). AND NOW RINGING?!
it says Jupiter's mission now
it's focusing on this dude running around a rotating office(?) and it's hurting my brain I can't wrap my head around the movement in it. ik you said it was trippy but I assumed that's later lol
the way this dude is eating his icecreamed food is driving me insane, no one eats it like that, stuff is meant to be eaten in an order, or going from one end to the other. oooh it's infuriating >:(
HAL 9000! I <3 him so much. He and Dave are so. just so.
" I know it's a bit silly" awwww
the breathing atm is so grr dheggebsb bdjbbs bsnndndndnnhw grrrrgrrrreerrr. they did not need 10 minutes of this dude breaking really heavy, was not needed.
got to the intermission!
there's the breathing again it is so wierdd and just wrong.
my dog just let out the loudest fart honestly >:0
the dude that's not Dave is just floating out in space. he won't stop it's been ages now. he's been saved!
all the people in the white sleepy suits just died
Dave let the dude go again?! he and Hal had an argument over killing each other.
Dave killed Hal as he was singing a song to him? ok, onto the Jupiter and beyond the infinite
the magical colourfull line he's gone into looked like guitar hero, but rotated
atm all I see is colours I am so confused. it hurts my eyes.
babies in space!?!!
overall I just found it confusing, but it was interesting to watch lol
have fun reading this :P
LMAO HI
im not gonna respond to the first gorillas bit bc i was there w u but . set the tone for ur dogs for sure….
THE POLE YHING IS PART OF THE TRIPPY BIT my ongoing theory is that it gives people new information that their brains cant rly hand,e (i.e. monkeys near pole went apeshit but figured out how to use tools, people on moon near pole had to be put in a coma but figured out how to go to jupiter, dave near pole had the worst trip of his life but was reborn into a giant baby…) like some sorta lovecraftian shit
THE SIUDNTRACK IS SOOOOOO GOOD AGH. i LOVE the use of music in the film to set the tone & atmosphere & motifs & shit
THE LONG CONVO WAS UHHH. they were on like a specship docking station nd these guys tell the doctor (main guy who rang his kid) that the spaceship he’s going onto has rumours of a massive disease outbreaak, and so he better be careful and also they say he should like. feed info back to them . and be a rat basically . the doctor says “nuh uh thats confidential” and they all get sad bc they dont have access to a mole
the meeting is where we discover that actually theres NOT a disease outbreak , thats just a backup story to prevent more people going onto the ship. they’re travelling to the moon to investigate this weird black pole thing (th same pole frm the monkeys) bc it has a super strong super weird magnetic field . its said that it must have been dug down into the ground purposely bc its so deep…
…which brings us nicely to the AWFUL RINGING SCENE . theyve found the pole and are investigating it — behavior is notably VERY similar 2 tha monkeys. they reach forwards and touch it hesitantly, crowd around it in a circle… the reason however that it might be ringing for us NOW but was not ringing for the monekys PREVIOUSLY could be just because we, the viewer, ARE humans, adn thus cannot hear the sound the moneksy heard
JUPITERS MISSION IS WHERE THE MAIN PLOT COMES IN ! with hal and frank and dave . uhh more or less u seem to understand most of the first bit of this, but just to put it out there that the people who are in a coma are the people who were on the voyage to th moon to investigate the magnetic field .
HAL AND DAVE ARE SO. THEY ARE JUST SO. U GET IT
the breathing is bc theyre in space thats what they hear but iAGREE it was HORRIBEL watching that on the big screen OUGH
intermission :-3
frank was uhh dead .? the pod he was manouvreing got taken over by hal (bc the red light at the front lit up ) , and it cut his oxygen cord. he’s dead out there buddy . dave isnt saving him .
dave let frank go bc he had to go in the entrance where he would Probably Die if he did not Pay Attention. and so bringing franks body in was NOT on his list of priorities .
the argument with hal was brought on previously — do u remember the convo dave and frank had in the pod when they thought hal could not hear them ? the convo abt cutting hal off if it turned out that the communications device was NOT broken aftr all? thtas why hal killed frank, and why hal wanted to kill dave
THE SONG WAS A REFREENCE TO THE FIRST COMPUTER TO SING A SONG !! th ibm something or other….but uhh the deal with him singing was bc his memory files got removed it was like a factory reset. && dave kille shim bc he killed frank and all those cryogenically sleepin people lol
I TALKED ABT THIS EARLIER IN THE POST BUT JUST TO CLARIFY. u could see the black obelisk thing just b4 he started with the freaky acid trip thing……nd my personal theory is that. the information he was fed got TOO much and TOO overcomplicated . and thats why the last hhalf an hour is like that lmao
GIANT BABIES LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOO
it IS confusing ur right. nw….tgank you for liveblogging it like i asked babycakws

Heyy so ya watched the fnaf movie, did ya like it or no?. Hear me out abt this I recently rewatched the boy AND Dayumm brahms was looking really really good, I’m too INLOVE with dilfs I know that, but who can blame me like Like look at Henry cavill, these dilfs have got me acting up.
-🐍
Overall I didn’t like it but there were parts in it that were really good! As I said the animatronics were super cool to see bc they actually made them and it wasn’t cgi I think Josh did a really good job portraying his character I felt bad for Mike most of the time and there were some parts that i really liked but overall it was boring 😭
I have yet to watch the movie but the fact that they put a mask on the actor bc he was considered to be too attractive only for ppl to also find the mask hot is so funny😭
ALSO YES YOU GET IT I need a dilf who looks like he could care for me protective me ONLY FOR ME to actually be the one to care for him and protect him

opla thots through eppie 5 so my brain don't explode:
i'm actually very pleasantly surprised. largely the stuff that is bad is stuff i expected and a lot of things are much better than i expected so like helleth yes we win
kobyyyyyyy perfect 100% i get why they're tying the marines in more for story purposes and idc honestly bc i get to see koby
helmeppo also good tho i could have done without seeing his full cheeks
as a fan there are a lot of small moments that really don't impact the overall story much but i did miss. like toppling the morgan statue. or sanji being present for the mihawk fight to see that devotion to a dream that motivates him to get on the sea. or the catboy being changed to a catgirl that one made me mad. but again does not affect the overall thing so w/e.
casting is so stupid spot on perfect and i've been saying that the whole time but good lord every new character is so insanely good
that said. they really desexied benn beckman. rip king.
why are luffy and usopp the only characters allowed to be fun. where is weird fun hardass grandpa garp. where is any major zoro dumbass moment. he's had a few but we can do better. oh my god i just realized jango wasn't here WHERE IS HE FUCK YOU. THE MENTION OF MIRRORBALL ISLAND IS NOT ENOUGH.
they did largely forget one piece is a comedy which i literally voiced as a worry out loud with my human mouth like an hour before i started watching. pain.
the design is largely extremely good. the costumes fuck every single time. cgi looks better than expected so i'm pretty pleased.
that said. the fishmen look like fucking dogshit i cannot take them seriously. i appreciate that they're using practical effects but my god they're so so so bad just for the fishmen.
on the other hand. enamored with the dendenmushi. they're real and they're vile and i want one soooooo bad
impressed that luffy's fx don't look way worse the only one i think looks bad is balloon and that's. tough.
kuro was very good what a little freak
buggy was. fine. i didn't love him like everyone else seems too i just think they took him in the wrong direction a touch
mihawk looks so good but i hate his accent he sounds bizarre to me
lotta brits in here i was not expecting. not the worst but like. huh.
i keep seeing folks in the tag praising the colors and how it's not dark and muddy and i don't think we were watching the same show. the clothes pop and sometimes they'll light a scene but any scene in the dark even a little bit is so washed out and bad looking it's got that netflix stank all over it like most of the circus tent and garp's ship and the final syrup village fight are dark jumbles
also why did we need two goddamn episodes for syrup village. that seems excessive. i feel like they could have cut things differently and ended up with more time for like. actual adaptation stuff.
zoro crying on the dock was so perfect no notes iconic moment
i did tear up when sanji first appeared so. there is that.
also when zoro one handed lifts that big safe. okay king!
zoro is too smart also in ways that he shouldn't be it's bothering me so much. like when he translates usopp's big wordy bullshit he does not know what those words meannnnn
that said. which way is port. it's to the left. ah okay. stands there and does nothing because he doesn't know which way left is either. also gets lost on his way to a house that's ten feet away and visible. more of this we need more of this so bad.
easter eggs so good so fun. cavendish wanted poster. island of weird animals in the end credits. certainly more i didn't catch. mwah we love it.
dialogue sucks shit also the worst element of the show is by far the writing where like the plot is fine the way they rearranged things doesn't bother me if i wanted the exact story in order i'd read it again but the actual lines they write are mostly so stupid bad and generic. every so often they hit on a good one but it's generally lifted straight from the manga.
they didn't even get gold roger's speech right. he didn't say he left it all in one piece. that's the fucking. it's the whole thing of it innit.
oh i need to mention cabaji specifically weird they gave him so much focus and backstory but he looked PERFECT i was hollering
i miss reggie tho
usopp asking a gay man and an aroace man if they think a girl likes him. they do not know bro.
also i love every shipper being like WE WON listen man i'm a shipper too and the only folks who won were the usokaya hets out there everything else is just as canon as it's always been (read: not even a little bit lmao)
now that said. opla usolu is Something which is wild bc i have never once been on this train but it hits different. not enough to make me abandon aroace luffy but still.
okay one more thing. zoro being in the stocks for 0.5 seconds to keep his job that he abandons immediately anyway instead of being there for weeks in exchange for the safety of a little girl sucks. it takes away so much of his character and feels like such a critical misstep to me but i'm also the zoro guy so idk.
anyway. overall very excited to finish the season and hoping we get more. it's surpassed my (admittedly low) expectations despite my issues with it and it's worth sticking with for sure.

watched all the fantastic beasts movies recently for the first time and the thing about them is. theyre bad. theyre so bad like the og harry potter movies are at least fun and magical and have a lot going for them but these films were like. what if marvel made harry potter. like so many of the sets were obvious cgi and so many of the characters (bc every film had too many characters imo. not everything needs to be a Team) were poorly written. literally the only stand out aspects were newt (eddie redmayne does a fantastic job and you really fall in love with his character and root for him) and then jude law as dumbledore like jacob the muggle guy is funny but they dont give him enough to do imo. also all the women are written terribly theyre so one dimensional and boring, the second film is def the worst and i think thats mainly due to how much screen time johnny depp gets bc the guy was giving a terrible performance like wife beating aside the man cant act anymore. also the plot was just stupid but w/e. anyway. if you see me reblogging gifs no you dont <3
