âËâč⥠NOTHING LIKE THE MOVIES
["Trust me, Lib," I said, picturing her lips. "In a crowd of million ski masks, I'd still be able to find you."]
| âź 3 stars |
á°.á âč arc review thank you to netgalley + simon and schuster for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for an honest review
THOUGHTS ° ᥣđ© . ° . [minor spoilers]
ok. i put this review off for a couple days cause i knew this was gonna be harder to write because i love lynn painter books, really. buuttt i was horribly disappointed with this one. i'm the biggest wesliz fan but... like yeah i cant even form coherent thoughts about it. like this was unnecessary there was no point in shattering their relationship to write this.
like it was good to see wes's pov and everything but it felt so... idk yeah. (see im still struggling so bad to find words.)
one thing i would formally like to invite lynn to STOP doing though is shoving every taylor/ pop culture reference on the planet into the book. like holy shit woman. i few is okay BUT NOT THAT MANY COME ON!!!! they were in the middle of a fucking argument and wes is quoting illicit affairs or some bullshit. usually i love finding little references on page but this felt like too much.
i feel like she's whipped out her computer and gone straight to some dog fanpage or just plainly scrolled through edits seeing people saying "this song is so wesliz coded" and shoved those songs into the book. there is an on page reference to in between reference saying its their montage song.
also um this shit: âlittle liz canât come to the phone right now. why? oh. because sheâs dead.â and somehow when jack antonoff was randomly brought up??? like some people are good at weaving taylor swift lyrics into books. lynn you are not.
also lynn take this a plea to never use the word "growl" or "growled" in a sentence ever again when describing your male characters. and to never write this sentence âsheâs one of the guys you know? sheâs just⊠different,â EVER AGAIN. PLEASE.
WHAT I DID LIKE THO WAS THE TINY TINY CRUMBS OF BAILEYCHARLIE AND NICKEMELIE (even tho nick was only mentioned and i dont think emelie was even there but eh)
CHARACTERS ° ᥣđ© . ° .
liz - ok so weirdly enough she was the most tolerable and still intolerable at the same time. like she was so different from the liz in bttm the sunshiney, wearing dresses of all different colours and her love of romcoms. she was described as anti-love and was practically a full on different character seriously. if you liked the first book maybe dont have high expectations for nltm. like i do understand she had her heart broken and so obviously that makes sense for some of the change but it had been two years and as liz likes to say SO FUCKING MUCH "she's moved on, she's moved past it, its in the past" well for someone who's moved on you sure like to avoid the past a lot. also idk who tf she was trying to fool with that whole "i don't like wes, im over him." shit like gurl- you were literally kissing 2.5 seconds ago whats with the switching sides. and there was SO much about her leaving "little liz" behind. like what was so wrong with liking flowers and romcoms? and being a hopeless romantic and wearing bright colours?
wes - okay so it was quiet heartbreaking to hear abt wes's side of this book (except for the whole pursuing liz part) and i did feel sorry for him. but like what happened to the sweet, caring wes in the first book. and tell me why i had to read THIS sentence âclimb on me like a good girl,â LIKE MY EYES LYNN WTF????? i did not sign up for this wes, like no stop telling me how obsessed you are with liz's lips or how she's a mythological sex goddess- boy sit ur ass down. and don't even get me started on the beginning of the book. WHAT WAS THAT SHIT? why was wes acting like a 7yr old excited for school and talking (so much) abt his love for scootering? SCOOTERING. LYNN PAINTER WHAT THE EVER LOVING HELL? SCOOTERING. DO YOU HAVE SOME OBSESSION WITH THEM OR SOMETHING? WHY DID THOSE DUMB THINGS KEEP SHOWING UP?? like tell me why i needed to read this shit: "i fucking loved the scooters ..... wes + scooters = HEA" ..... lynn.
QUOTES ° ᥣđ© . ° .
im not going to bother to find any of these, see: im too lazy
all in all i still liked some points when both of them were acting normal. which is why its a 3. but i feel like this is leaning towards a hate review but yeah idk i cant actually pin point parts that i remember liking- also the ending??? what was that? it made no sense to me.

It's all I wish to hear tonight, and you're all I wish to be, and this is how we all fall - Chapter one
Summary: It's the Garvar fic! Wdym you want a summary? It's a retelling of the first chapter of kotlc from Garwin's pov. That's--that's pretty much it. We do have them interact which is pretty nice. There will be more loosely connected chapters to come but I don't know how many or how they'll turn out. Word count: 2730
TW: swearing, drug mention, mentions of kidnappings and murder in relation to the Sophie/Fitz interaction
Taglist (lmk if you want to be added/removed!): @stellar-lune @gaslight-gaetkeep-gayboss @kamikothe1and0lny @nyxpixels @florida-preposterously @poppinspop @uni-seahorse-572 @solreefs @remember-me-in-another-time @rusted-phone-calls @when-wax-wings-melt @good-old-fashioned-lover-boy7 @dexter-dizzknees @abubble125 @hi-imgrapes @callum-hunt-is-bisexual @xanadaus @callas-pancake-tree @hi-my-name-is-awesome @katniss-elizabeth-chase @arson-anarchy-death.    If thereâs one thing universally agreed upon by high schoolers, itâs this: field trips are fun. Or at least they should be, in theory.Â
Instead of being locked in a classroom for eight hours a day, you get to go outside, cause some havoc, you know, the usual.Â
Your other teachers end up being nice because you cried to them that between all your classes and this field trip, you need an extra week on that paper that youâve had assigned for three months and you havenât started and is due tomorrow for a reason.Â
And, most of the time, as an extra bonus, you learn absolute jack shit.Â
The only problem arises when the teacher that is taking you on the trip seems to forget that part and forces you to actually pay attention with the threat of a quiz, and knowing him, heâs going to make it absolutely horrendous.Â
Yes, dinosaurs are badass but having to listen to your teacher read the plaques out loud makes gouging your eyes out seem like a good course of action.Â
Are we completely sure the teachers here have a 100 percent literacy rate? Garwin wonders, rolling his eyes as Sweeney struggles through another scientific name. I mean, knowing this school system, it would not surprise me.Â
Thereâs a couple of nerds taking notes but honestly thereâs no chance. If there is a quiz, itâll be the type of thing thatâs âWhat year, exactly, did the cretaceous era end?â And the multiple choice options will all be around that 66 million years ago mark ingrained in everyoneâs soul but you have to remember that science was able to determine the meteor fell on a Thursday and from that you have to extrapolate what the date would have been.Â
Can a meteor fall on us this today Thursday? Thatâd be great. No more AP exams. Â
And yeah, AP classes are supposed to have a curve, but with that little photographic memory of Dophieâs only half paying attention and half listening to MCR so loud it can be heard from three miles away, sheâs gonna get a perfect score.Â
Case in point: Sweeney finally hears Gerard screaming and catches onto the fact that Sophie is completely ignoring his existence, per usual.Â
âMiss Foster!â He yanks her earbuds out by the cords. âHave you decided that youâre too smart to pay attention to this information?â
Well, she can probably legit get a zero on the final and still carry a 93 in the class. So Iâd probably say the answer is yes. I think we all know that little smartass corrects Sweeney on a daily basis.Â
Between the typos and the shit he gets plain wrong, it was entertaining to see him flounder at the beginning of the year, but at this point she doesnât seem to grasp the idea that everyoneâs given up on the lost cause of a man.Â
This entire class has all had to suffer through more school than sheâs been alive. Other than the dumbass sophomores in the class. But it wouldnât be surprising to find out they were smoking weed in the back of class for a âscience experiment.âÂ
Ah, the things you can get away with in AP Enviro Science and a teacher that doesnât care. Except about the toddler in his class who listens to music but hey. Maybe heâs insecure because heâs stupid and he has to maintain control over some aspect of his life. Â
Sophie mumbles something, denying it as she attempts to retract into her shell like a turtle. Unfortunately, humans donât usually come with a shell, so she isnât very successful.Â
âThen perhaps you can explain why you were listening to your iPod instead of following along?â Sweeney dangles the headphones in front of her as she rips out an eyelash.Â
Now, Garwin may have only gotten a 2 on the AP Psych exam last year because he only paid attention half the time because those daily quizzes were ass, but that doesnât seem like the healthiest of coping mechanisms.Â
Sophie simply stares at the ground to pretend like Sweeney isnât harassing her.Â
âSince youâve decided youâre above this lecture, why donât you give it?â Sweeney asks, gesturing to the definitely-accurate reconstruction of an orange hadrosaur. âExplain to the class how the Lambeosaurus differs from the other dinosaurs weâve studied.â
You see, one of these was the Pteranodon familyâs neighbor on Dinosaur Train. Larry Lambeosaurus was an endless pit that never seemed to fill with food, much like the average teenager. Unlike the average teenager, however, this may have something to do with his diet of tree and its caloric density, or lack thereof.Â
Instead of listening to Sophie rattle off dinosaur facts learned from a lifetime of being a fucking nerd, Garwin chooses to look at literally anything else for some scrap of entertainment.Â
Like, for example, the Albertosaurus. And imagining it coming to life and eating everybody Ă la Jurassic Park. That would be fun.Â
Sweeney gets increasingly pissed off as she keeps going. He really shouldâve learned long ago to not challenge her âcause it ainât gonna go well for him. He mutters something under his breath, and turns to go to the next increasingly stupid dinosaur.Â
Actually, Garwin takes that back. The dinosaurs themselves arenât stupid. Itâs the whole idea of having to get dragged to a place to forcefully learn about them instead of actually studying for the AP exam in less than two weeks. Not that he actually cares about that though.Â
âNice job, superfreak,â he says to Sophie as she stands helplessly in the middle of the walkway. He pushes past her in an effort to appear engaged enough to not get another detention. âMaybe they'll write another article about you. 'Child Prodigy Teaches Class About the Lame-o-saurus.ââ
Garwinâs gaze lands on someone reading the newspaper with Sophieâs face plastered across it. Yeah, the guyâs kinda cute with dark hair and teal eyes flicking up at Sophie ever so oftenâŠbut, like, heâs probably freshman-ish years old and thatâs kinda weird in the middle of the school day, not gonna lie.Â
And he isnât in this class, thatâs for sure. So heâs probably ditching. Kind of a dumb move to ditch and then go to a museum but hey. Thatâs his life choice and itâs not Garwinâs fault itâs stupid.Â
Garwin rolls his eyes as he moves into the next room. The desire to cause large amounts of property damage by climbing up the statues is immense, but, alas, one cannot succumb to temptation.Â
Their resident curvebuster doesnât follow, and, honestly, that is a choice. Maybe if she gets eaten by a dinosaur or kidnapped with the guy pulling a Ferris Bueller, this class might know peace once again.Â
A not-small part of him could not give less of a shit if she disappears suddenly, and another not-small part of him canât help but see the advantages. Maybe then we wonât all fail the class. Itâs not like San Diego City College is going to miss her. Chances are, sheâll be the same to her unfortunate classmates there.Â
As the group shuffles around a reconstruction of a Triceratops, Sweeney begins droning on and on and on and on about the different types of ceratopsians, and itâs a damn fucking shame the one with three horns became famous instead of, like, the Kosmoceratops.Â
That fuckerâs got fifteen horns and itâs common knowledge that an animalâs coolness is exponentially correlated with number of things that it has that can kill you.Â
In order to quell the rising tide of complete and total apathy, Garwin once again begins the search for something--anything--interesting to occupy his time.
And donât you know it? Thereâs a hot guy hiding in a corner trying desperately not to be seen.Â
Between him and the kid reading the newspaper in the other room, something weird is definitely going down. So the obvious course of action is to walk up to the guy and see whatâs up. Maybe even flirt a little. As soon as he can escape from Sweeneyâs torture chamber, that is.Â
In the meantime, Garwin can still stare at him. He has dark hair gelled to perfection and light blue eyes. His eyelashes are visible from this massive distance away, so they must be super long and therefore super hot. Garwinâs fingers ache to trace his sharp square jaw and his skin is a light tan with a dusting of freckles for good measure.Â
In short, heâs absolutely fucking gorgeous.Â
Heâs way too far to be certain, but he kind of does look like newspaper boyâŠfor reasons that are as of right now indescribable other than sheer vibes.Â
And heâs wearing a black batman sweatshirt--a foolish decision on a partially sunny day such as today--that hangs in such a way to suggest heâs got some muscles hiding beneath it.Â
The world would be improved in many ways if that sweatshirt was a little less on.
Then, suddenly, by some miracle, some grace of god, Sweeney lets them explore for themselves. An argument could be made that he realized that no one was paying attention, but the more likely case is that he got tired of teaching and is now allowing them the slightest sliver of freedom to maximize his own laziness.Â
Garwin floats over to the guy in the corner as nonchalantly as possible as his traitorous heart is doing backflips in his chest. He was tall from a distance, but heâs even taller up close.Â
âHey,â he says. Hey? Hey? Thatâs the most creative thing you could come up with? A cheesy pickup line would be better at this point. Â
âHey yourself.â Guy-in-the-corner says with the slightest hint of a smirk. âIâm Alvar, whatâs your name?â
Garwin is almost too distracted by Alvarâs thick accent--almost British, but somehow crisper--to remember his own name. âIâm Garwin. Itâs nice to meet you.â
âDo you really think they looked like that?â Alvar asks. âThe dinosaurs, I mean. Itâs a little absurd, isnât it?âÂ
âWould you rather have the nerd answer or do you want the smartass answer?â Garwin replies.Â
âWho says I donât want both?â
âAh. Well then. The nerd answer is that at least some of them should have feathers. They are the ancestors to birds, after all. The fact that none of them do is a little yikes. And as for my other answer, Iâm not a paleontologist, but,â Garwin points to a fossilized sauropodâŠor at least a skeleton of one that may or may not be real, âthat one might be a tad bit skinny.â
Alvar laughs, a glorious sound. His eyes wander away from studying Garwin, focusing out of the room, landing on Sophie fucking Foster.Â
Ah, yes. First she gets into Yale without even trying and now sheâs gained the attention of multiple people which depending on the intentions could be really fucking creepy. Sheâs literally twelve. This is complete and utter bullshit.Â
âIs that the kid on the front of the newspaper today?â
    âYeah,â Garwin replies bitterly.Â
Alvar makes a thoughtful sound and looks back at Garwin, who has begun leaning against the wall. Yes, thereâs a plastic fern between them but you do what you can.Â
âCome on, Fitz. Donât be a total dumbass,â Alvar whispers as newspaper boy--Fitz--begins to step away from Sophie. Â
A swarm of kindergarteners barreled into the exhibit, nearly knocking both Sophie and Fitz off their feet. They hold their heads in their hands like their brains are physically getting stabbed and when they make eye contact again, Sophie watches Fitz in fear.Â
Why that is, Garwin canât tell, but thereâs something in Alvarâs expression that seems like he suspects something, and Garwin would give anything--except a full ride scholarship to Yale--to know what he does.Â
In the time Garwin spends studying Alvarâs features for clues and getting lost in his eyes, Sophie has magically disappeared. Fitz swears, probably loud enough to be heard all the way at the zoo across the street, as he runs after her.Â
Alvar rolls his eyes. âLife choices. Do I run after my dumbass of a brother or do I leave him be? Decisions, decisions,â he asks himself.Â
    What the fuck?Â
Garwin looks back at Alvar to find him already watching him. âWould you like me to go tell Sweeney or justâŠlet her skip class?â And probably get murdered just a little bit.Â
It takes a good few seconds for him to process this request. âEh, Iâm sure heâll notice sooner or later.â
Oh my fucking god this guy is fucked up. I donât like Sophie, but Iâd rather she not get kidnapped.
âŠIs it bad that he's still hot?
âWhy the fuck are you two harassing Sophie?â The question comes out more forcefully than Garwin intends, but not enough to walk it back.Â
âThat is one very long story and I donât think youâd believe half of it. But letâs see--how simplified can I get this?â He pauses, formulating. âWeâve basically got a switched at birth situation going on here except we donât exactly know who her actual parents are and well thatâs a whole thing that Iâd rather not get into right now. Also we donât know if sheâs actually the kid weâre looking for. And by we I mean mostly our dad but he isnât here right now because he figured it would be less creepy for us to stare at children than he would be. And then Fitzy over there doesnât know Iâm here for extensive and even more complicated reasons. And he wasnât supposed to interact with her. Problems all around.â
Garwin considers this explanation for a moment. On the one hand, it leaves him with more questions than answers, and on the other hand, he doesnât really care enough to ask for further elaboration.Â
âJust donât murder Sophie. I donât need to see her on the front cover of the newspapers that should already be obsolete two days in a row,â he decides.Â
Alvar smiles. His teeth are brilliantly white, and itâs ever so slightly crooked in such a perfect way that makes it seem practiced. His cobalt eyes fix Garwin to the spot as they turn toward each other.Â
âAnd, um, before I go, I do immensely apologize if Iâm reading this wrong, but would you like to go out with me sometime?â
âWhy the hell else do you think I wandered over here? Absolutely.âÂ
Instead of giving Garwin his phone number like a normal person by writing it on a sticky note or the back of his hand with a sharpie that doesnât come off for a week or just directly typing it into their phone, Alvar comes equipped with a stack of business cards.Â
And honestly, itâs not even that surprising. Like, yes, heâs only known the guy for a grand total of fifteen minutes, but that tracks with what he knows so farâŠwhich isnât much. But it still counts. Bitch.Â
Garwin smiles. âIâll call you and set up details when I can look at my calendar and Iâm not already busy with club meetings and shit.â
    âSounds good.âÂ
After a short pause, Alvar opens his mouth to say something else, but heâs interrupted by Sweeneyâs nasal whining before he gets the chance.Â
Garwin rolls his eyes. âI guess I should get back to the fucked up reality that is the American school system. See you later.âÂ
    âBye,â Alvar replies, smiling.Â
Garwin makes his way back to the class reforming around Sweeney like a slime mold, taking his sweet time to not seem too eager to be going back to the hellhole that is occasionally referred to as a school but not dicking around so much he gets left, as making his way back there himself would be mildly inconvenient.Â
And we canât have that, now, can we?
Garwin looks back into the corner to sneak one more glance at the indescribably attractive boy who has for some reason asked him out only to find that heâs nowhere to be found.Â
Was he just a figment of my imagination?
Garwin checks his back pocket, hissing as the sharp edges of a business card leave him with a paper cut.Â
    Guess that solves that mess.Â
Now if only all the worldâs problems could be solved so easily, weâd be onto something.Â

20 Questions for Fic Writers
@cacodaemonia tagged me for this one and I've never actually looked at my AO3 stats, so this should be interesting (for me, anyway)...
How many works do you have on ao3? 119, which is kind of...something when you consider that I only started writing fic again in 2022
Whatâs your total ao3 word count? 101, 481. Yeeps.
What fandoms do you write for? Most of those words are for The Clone Wars, but there are some other SW shows/movies in there too. I'm 100% Star Wars these days. But there are also works from Stargate, Firefly, Supernatural, and a couple of others.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Pillow Talk
Forty Winks
Intensive Care
Whiskey Tango...Foxtrot?!
Crime and Punishment
The first four were all part of Codywan Sleep Bingo 2023, the last one was for 501st Bingo 2023
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I do! I always respond to thank those who left me a comment at the very least and will try to answer questions or react to something specific if they have called it out. Fandom is about interaction.
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I suppose that depends on how one defines angst. Intensive Care ends with both Cody and Obi-Wan gravely wounded in bacta tanks. But None of Us Perfect ends with an OFC giving Anakin advice that will ultimately fail because...you know...Vader. So one of them is what I would maybe call "modern angst" in that fandom seems to have more specific definitions of it now but the other seems like a somewhat happy ending when we all know it's really not and never could be.
Whatâs the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Honestly? I have no idea. These days, I tend to only write happy/fluffy sort of stuff, so most of them end well. Strictly Ballroom is about Waxer and Boil's first kiss and it's pretty sweet and happy, I think.
Do you get hate on fics? To date? No. Will I eventually? Probably? I dunno. I'm pretty small potatoes in the fic world....I don't have the kind of spotlight that draws hate.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes, I suppose that I do. 98% of it is clonesex, but there is a side of het in there with Thire and an OFC because when I started writing smut, I needed to do it with the kind of sex I am familiar with.
Do you write crossovers? I have written one crossover in my life. It is not on AO3.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I am aware of, no.
Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes, but it was a million years ago in a fandom far, far away.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes.
Whatâs your all-time favorite ship? This question gives ME angst. I am not a shipper by nature and I've never had an OTP. In TCW, I very much enjoy Rex/Cody and it probably edges out my fondness of Codywan a little.
Whatâs a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? I have about 15K written as a sequel to None of Us Perfect and I really would like to finish it because I started it when the Kenobi series aired as a sort of tribute to my friend Alex, who passed away before she could see it. I'm also just really fond of that OFC and would like to tell more of her story. But it's such a personal project that gets me deep in my feels, so it can be hard to work on.
What are your writing strengths? If the comments are to be believed, I'm somewhat funny? I do think I can turn a decent phrase from time to time, too.
What are your writing weaknesses? I used to write in past tense and, back then, I think I was pretty good at action, but now that I'm in present tense, I don't think that's true anymore. I struggle with it not reading staccato (he did this, then he did that, then this happened), so I actually tend to avoid it.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I tried it once with that crossover mentioned above, but did it phonetically because I wanted the readers to have a sense of how it sounded instead of just looking at words in a language they didn't speak. I don't think I would do it again aside from a word here or there as needed.
First fandom you wrote for? Highlander: The Series
Favorite fic youâve written? I have a very soft spot for the second HL fic I wrote, which is probably still online somewhere, but I'm not going to try to link to it because it's under my real name (because that's how we rolled in 1997). Here and now, under the cover of usernames, it's probably A Brighter Star than You.
Thanks for the tag, caco! That was more fun than I thought it might be. I'm going to open tag this because I feel like I have been hitting the usual suspects pretty hard with the writing game tags lately. If you see it and want to play, please do so and tag me back so I can see your answers! And, because caco is a genius and did this first, here's a list of the questions for you to cut and paste:
How many works do you have on ao3?
Whatâs your total ao3 word count?
What fandoms do you write for?
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending
Whatâs the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Do you get hate on fics?
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Do you write crossovers?
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Whatâs your all-time favorite ship?
Whatâs a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
What are your writing strengths?
What are your writing weaknesses?
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
First fandom you wrote for?
Favorite fic youâve written?

bimbo spiritualism, rediscovery, & new beginnings
dear listener,
i have no longer been afraid. i miracle happened recently. i met this beautiful girl and she has saved me. my girlfriend is very supportive of our bond for i was afraid to initiate it. but love is a beautiful vessel that shall not be contained. ever since she has entered my life i feel like a new human being. she has shifted my world and she always makes me learn more things about myself everyday. it's quite a life altering feeling. i have also rediscovered my femininity and reconnecting that to my spiritualism mindset. i thank saint Angelyne everyday for her ways of life. and for inspiring me in this new era of my life. she has always been a powerful woman who isn't afraid to flaunt her sexuality for the world to admire. i aspire to her way of being. she has also always believed in a higher power. a higher power of self. but most importantly she has never been afraid to do whatever the hell she wanted to do. she will always be punk at heart. and the way she views herself as an other worldy higher being, such a magical thing that i will always resonate with. id like to think that saint Angelyne as well as saint SOPHIE brought this woman into my life and there's no way that i will ever be able to repay them for that. besides my new lovie that is in my life, there's another person that i'd like to talk about. my best friend Emily. i can't thank them enough for all of the light that they've brought into my life. with my best friend Cam living millions of light years away from me, it's been a struggle to not have them physically in my life at all times. somehow Emily was able to fill that void that has been in my heart. once again, i can't thank them enough for all that they've done for me in this life. they have reminded me of all of the things that i have loved in the past such as Sleeping with Sirens, Good Mythical Morning, and Bob's Burgers. they're such a soulmate to me. we're literal long lost twins. i've been hanging out with them in their college dorm and it's been so magical. and their friend Deanna is so wonderful and cool as well i love seeing them and i especially love hanging out with her and Emily. a couple of days ago after Emily and i had a date at Cheesecake Factory we went back to their place to watch Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt as well as Rick and Morty with Deanna. those little pockets of time that i always share with Emily give me the biggest boosts of serotonin. when im with them i never have to feel obligated to hide any part of my self. and that's how it should be. thank you Emily for being here for me. besides the beautiful relationships that have blossomed this year, ive been loving school! although i was nervous about the in person portion, i literally had nothing to stress over. i love to overthink to the point of vomiting over my anxiousness but of course it never makes any situation better. aside that i love my instructors and my classmates everyone is so kind and we all love and celebrate our differences. and im so thankful for that. oh another thing i should mention! i have a new favorite movie that ive been fixating over! it's called Nowhere (1997) and Emily showed that film to me. they literally know me so we because there are so many elements in that movie that remind me of all of my favorite films. it's a true masterpiece. another thing too, the beautiful girl in my life and i have been talking a lot and once she moves back here we're planning on having movie nights once a week. i look forward to having our mutual love for art films being flourished and celebrated. geez im so gay. women make me do manic things. anyways, thank you as always stalker for caring for my stories. i will always love you :). ~princessxeon đ
pic credits lmao :P :
a clip of Angelyne in a 70s film.
me in Emily's room working on face charts as they redye their hair and as we're watching Don't Hug Me I'm Scared
a page i was reading from John Water's novel Liarmouth
Angel Prost with da pope
Angel Prost describing my aura (yes i paid her five dollhairs for her to tell me lmao)

All Is Lost
Summary: Zombies have taken over the world, humanity on the edge of extinction. All hope was lost. Despite that, Wanda couldnât seem to let go of Y/n, who had fallen victim to the plague herself.
Word Count: 2,263
Genre: Angst
Requested?: No
Warnings: Graphic depictions of violence, death, cannibalism, suicide, mentions of blood. Spoilers for Ep. 5 of What If...?
A/N: I know, I know, Iâm gonna get into the stuff I promised soon. But for now, the Zombies episode inspired me and this came out. If you havenât seen the episode yet, go watch it. Its amazing and depressing. Also this is DARK guys, probably the darkest thing Iâve ever written, so...Happy Reading!
The Zombie apocalypse was always something everyone joked about, but never something that anyone could actually predict.
Everything happened so quickly, Wanda could barely keep up. Itâs hard to believe that everything was so normal only two weeks ago. Now, she was locked away with Vision in an abandoned military base in New Jersey. Desperate to survive for as long as possible while Vision worked on a cure.
Some of his experiments had been a success, most notably Scott Lang who he was able to revert back from his zombified state. However, the man was now only a severed head.
Despite the success, Vision was less than optimistic. For one, Scott was one of the first infected. While the cure worked on him, the android theorized that the disease has mutated greatly since then, and it was likely impossible to cure everyone. And even if he could, the technology to do so is beyond human comprehension and therefore doesnât exist.
Vision might have all but given up hope, but Wanda didnât. She couldnât. She refused to give up on you.
Wanda and you have been best friends for as long as Wanda had been an Avenger. You were already a member of the team and greeted her with an open mind and open arms, despite all she had done. You had fire powers, and while your powers werenât identical to Wandaâs, you still offered some basic tips and tricks to keep such explosive powers at bay.
It wasnât a surprise that she fell in love with you.
But her stupid fear had to get in the way, and when you came to confess your own feelings for her, she panicked and rejected you. You were so heartbroken, Wanda didnât need to read your mind to know that.
And it kills her everyday knowing that that was the last interaction she had with you. The last one with you as yourself anyway.
All that remained now was the flesh hungry, blood thirsty monster that wore your, now rotting, skin.
This wasnât you, she knows that. She looked into your mind and saw no trace of the woman you once were, the one she loved with all her heart. She couldnât feel you, you were gone.
Despite this, Wanda couldnât let you go. She couldnât handle losing you entirely. She already lost almost everyone.
She managed to convince Vision to keep you in the base for testing. You were locked behind a large steel door, with only a window to see you through. But you were here, and thatâs all Wanda cared about.
The cure wasnât working for you. Your powers caused it to incinerate when it entered your system, proving it to be ineffective. Still, she refused to give up.
Vision thought it best to terminate you after the failed tests, but Wanda begged him not to. Knowing he couldnât overpower her, and sensing his friendâs distress with anything that comes to you, he agreed. As long as Wanda had it under control.
She doubted he knew that she was luring innocent survivors into the base so you could feed on them, but she did what she had to do.
Wanda spent most of her days sitting outside of your cell. The first few days, you were ravenous. Banging on the walls and trying to burn them down, growling and screeching with the inhuman noise that took over your vocal chords, but you didnât manage to break free. After a while, it seemed you have given up, and just sat in place. Only moving when Wanda opened the cell and let some of your âfoodâ in.
There were times where Wanda thought that maybe, just maybe, the cure was working more than they thought. You seemed to have recognized her, your facial expressions formed into ones that she had recognized and missed dearly. But that hope quickly died when she would peek into your head and still sense nothing.
âHey, Y/n.â Wanda walked up to outside your cell and sat cross-legged like she did everyday. Your head rose, staring at her with your now glowing yellow eyes. âStill no progress on the cure, but donât worry, Iâm not giving up yet.â You offered no response, not that she expected one. âItâs hard. Itâs only getting worse out there...â She sighed as she trailed off. She raised her hand to the glass, like she always did. âIâm going to figure it out...weâre gonna get you back to normal, and Iâm going to tell you every day how much I love you. I miss you so much, but...weâre almost there. I can feel it...â Wandaâs voice started choking up, as tears ran down her face. âWe deserve our happy ending.â
Her hand was still pressed against the glass as she finished her speech. She was about to lower it, but then something unexpected happened. You stared at her hand curiously, beginning to raise your own. Wanda watched, smile forming on her face as your arm made itâs way to the glass.Â
âWanda! Please come here, we have a situation.â You had almost pressed your hand against Wandaâs, when Visionâs voice interrupted. Your attention turned to the direction it came from and you let out a growl, clearly angry at the interruption. Wanda sighed in disappointment, but she tried not to let it take over. You still showed massive improvement, something worth reporting back to Vision. âItâs okay.â She soothed you. âIâm going to go see what he wants then Iâll be right back, okay? I know youâre hungry, Iâll get you some food too.â You didnât offer a response as she walked off.
âVis! I have to tell you-â Wanda began as she walked into the main room, but cut herself off at the new faces. She didnât recognize the bald woman with the spear or the wimpy looking man in a workers uniform, but she was familiar with Peter. What surprised her most though, was Bruce Banner. A man she hasnât seen in over three years. âWhat is going on?â
âI ran into them outside the premises. Apparently word has gotten out about the cure.â Vision answered before turning his attention back to the guests. âAs I told you, I am afraid we cannot help you. The cure seems to be a moot point.â
âWell, what about-â Peter began, but he was interrupted by a new voice.
âFor something you have no hope for, you sure donât have a problem bringing in new test subjects.â Wanda recognized Bucky Barnesâ voice. She turned around, and her eyes widened as she saw King Tâchalla on his arm, struggling to stand on his one remaining leg.
Shit.
âMy king! We thought you dead.â The bald woman exclaimed in relief and surprise.
âYour highness. I was not aware you were in the base.â Vision said, confused on how that got by him. It didnât take him long to figure out why. âWanda...â
âIâm sorry.â Wanda whispered, knowing she was caught. âThe cure wasnât working on Y/n, and in order to keep her at bay, I had to feed her.â
âSo you fed her our King?â A spear was raised to her throat, threateningly.
âIt was nothing personal, I promise. I have her under control and the cure is starting to work, I know it. We just need a little more time!â
âWhy not just kill her? You lured innocent people to their deaths just for her when there a couple million more Zombies out there that you could use for testing. Ones that have a chance of being cured.â The whole room went quiet after Bucky said that.
âUh oh. Shouldnât have said that.â Wanda heard Scott say, but she was too busy glaring at Bucky. Her eyes started to go red, but before she could do anything, she noticed the spear held to her throat begin to glow red and melt. The woman dropped the spear as it began to burn her hands.
âDid it just suddenly get like, super hot?â Peter asked as he began to fan himself.
âOh no...â Wanda trailed off. She looked up to notice the steal walls that led to your cell begin to melt. âYouâve done it now...she hasnât eaten in days.â Before anyone could respond, the steel doors melted completely. The man in the uniform was unfortunate enough to be standing in front of it, as a strong burst of flame shot out and incinerated him on the spot. Only a second later, you flew out the door, covered in flames as you hovered above everyone.
Wanda watched in horror as you began to fight everyone. They werenât holding up very well, and thatâs when Wanda finally realized what she had done. This wasnât you, and if you were still here, you would hate to see your body be used to attack and kill others.
âVision! Get us out of here!â She heard Bruce yell, and Vision shot a blast towards the wall, blowing it up and letting everyone out. Wanda turned her focus back to you, you watched them starting to escape and you began to fly after them, but a red mist surrounded you before you could. You turned your head, starting to growl, but stopped when you saw it was Wanda.
âY/n. Stop...â You tilted your head, still struggling to move as Wanda came closer. She took a chance and reached up, gently placing a hand on your face. âI am so sorry...you never deserved this...â Your face softened at the touch, beginning to show the signs of emotion that Wanda desperately held onto. However, it was clear now that it was too late.
You snapped out of it, as you managed to break free from Wandaâs hold. You opened your mouth wide, intent on biting and feeding on her, but something stopped you. You hesitated, and Wanda noticed. You settled for pushing her aside to the ground as you reignited yourself and flew out of the base.
Wanda picked herself up after a moment, intent on stopping you. She ran past Okoyeâs body, charred and eaten, but she was sure there was little time until she turned. She ran faster to where you were, now facing off against Bucky. She sprinted further, about to take off and fly when she paused.
Vision was face down on the ground. She kneeled next to him, glowing red hand turning over his body, afraid of what sheâll see. Once he was turned, Wanda gasped at the sight. The mind stone was torn out of his head.
âOh no...no, no, no...â She held his body, tears slowly building as she mourned the loss of her best friend. She had officially lost everything. âI am so sorry Vis...Iâm going to make this right, I promise.â
She heard Bucky scream. She looked over to see you start to feed on him. She saw Bruce, Peter, Scott and Tâchalla in the distance, making their way to the jet. They were your next target.
No. Wanda wasnât going to let that happen. It ends now.
She used her powers to propel herself forward, landing directly in your path. You growled at her yet again as she used her powers to hold you. âY/n...please, stop.â You struggled to get out of the hold, but Wanda held on. âThis isnât you...you wouldnât want this...I love you more than anything, and Iâm so sorry...I hope one day, youâll forgive me.âÂ
Wanda used her powers to grab the gun laying by Buckyâs side. She held in to your head, ready to pull the trigger...but she couldnât. She let out a scream of frustration and dropped her hold on both you and the gun. The gun fell to the ground, but you havenât moved.
âI canât do it...I...Iâm not strong enough...â Wanda began crying, shutting her eyes and waited for you to finish her off. She failed everyone, no one deserved death more than her. She opened her eyes when nothing came. You stood, staring at her with a tilt of your head. The yellow of your eyes dimming as you stared.
âW....Wan...â You struggled to let out, but it was enough for Wanda to hear. She cried even harder. She was right, you were almost there...but it was too late now.
You took in your surroundings as best you could, you didnât have a lot of awareness, but you knew enough to piece everything together. You saw the influx of zombies starting to enter to base. Everyone needed to get away. You turned back to Wanda, and you knew what you had to do. You felt the little control you had start to slip away.
You bent down and picked up the discarded gun. You shakily pointed it to your temple, the control slipping away faster and faster. âLove....you....I...sorry...â You managed to croak out. Before you could lose control completely, you pulled the trigger.
Wanda watched in horror as you shot yourself in the head. Pieces of your brain landing on her, your blood drenching her. She looked down to see your body, half your face still together, but you were gone. Truly gone.
She knelt down sobbing, as she held your body. After a moment she looked up to see the Hulk appear as the zombies began to overwhelm the base. She saw the jet take off, and she gave a weak smile. They got away. Wandaâs job was done. This is where her story ends. All was lost for her.
So when the zombies finally reached her, she didnât fight back. Accepting her death with open arms.

Flustered | Fred Weasley
Pairing: Fred Weasley x F!Reader Word Count: 2.5k Warnings: mentions of underage drinking and alcohol, tickling, making out Summary: Your flirty friendship with Fred Weasley comes to a resolution after an argument surrounding the Yule Ball that took place all those years ago.Â
A/N: hi friends! this is a Fred Weasley fic based on a tik tok i saw last night (all credit for the bolded line goes to the creator of the tik tok). also thank you to @gcdric for discussing this with me very late last night, i hope it turned out well omg iâm NERVOUS. anyway! off we go. please let me know if youâd like to be added to my taglist! iâm updating it since i was on hiatus for awhile! love you guys!
As you sat on the couch of the Burrow, your eyes fixated on the many pictures in the Weasleyâs living room, your mind began to drift off with thoughts of the freckled, red-headed boy sat in front of you giggling with his siblings.
There was something extraordinarily special about your friendship with Fred Weasley. After ten plus years of him being the most important person in your life, ever since your first day at Hogwarts when he tripped over your robes as you and your fellow first years hurried into the Sorting Ceremony, you couldnât imagine life without him.
You had been through so much together; every Hogwarts experience there was to be had, first kisses, first heartbreaks, the Second Great Wizarding War, he was by your side through everything.
âWhatâs on your mind, Y/N? You look to be thinking entirely too hard for my liking,â Fred sassed, breaking you out of your trance.
âToo hard for your liking?â you retaliated. âWhat do you care what Iâm thinking about?â
âItâs supposed to be a relaxing weekend! Youâre much too deep in thought to be relaxing, so of course I care.â
âWell, if you must know, I was thinking about you, Freddie.â
âCarry on then, love. Iâve always wished for your thoughts to be consumed by me.â
With a cheeky wink, Fred went back to a game of exploding snap and you didnât need to watch to know that Ginny was absolutely kicking his arse. However, you didnât miss the sly smile that George gave you when Fredâs attention was diverted from you.
It wasnât uncommon for the two of you to flirt with one another. In fact, you would dare to say it was the most predominant form of communication between the two of you. There was the occasional time or two where you thought that maybe, just maybe, he felt the same, but heâd always look away quickly or press a kiss to your cheeks instead of your lips, laughing it off as the two of you caught up in a moment that would cross a line that could never be crossed, though you so desperately wanted to.
After another round of exploding snap, Ginny said her goodbyes and apparated back to her flat, but not before promising that she wouldnât miss anymore family dinners for quidditch practice, which you knew would happen inevitably but smiled nonetheless at her enthusiasm. Youâd been a regular appearance at the weekly get-together for as long as you could remember, you were practically part of the family so you could say with appropriate accuracy that Ginny definitely missed dinner more than all of her siblings combined due to her busy schedule.
âWell, I suppose itâs time for us to head back as well,â George mused, eyeing the leftover pies in the kitchen. âAre you staying at ours tonight, Y/N?â
âIâd love nothing more. Besides, I didnât get to play Fred in exploding snap and I want to knock his ego down just a little bit more.â
George linked arms with you and Fred, laughing about his brotherâs awful skills as you apparated to their flat above the shop.
Youâd spent many a nights at the twinsâ flat over the past couple of years. After the war, you had moved in for a while until you found a job and managed to rent your own place. But, they never got rid of your bed that took up a large corner of their living room, which came in handy after weekly Weasley dinners when you just wanted to spend a bit more time with your favorite boys.
âIâm absolutely knackered,â George said once the three of you had settled on the couch. âI think I might go to bed now, if Iâm honest. Besides, I want to be up early to work on those new design sketches for the storefront.â
âGeorge Weasley, you have never gotten up before 10 oâclock on a Sunday in your entire life,â you scoffed.
âThereâs a first for everything, Y/N. Goodnight to you and Freddie!â
As George turned away from you both, he faked a yawn and when he was sure Fred wasnât looking, winked back at you to further confirm your suspicion that he wanted you to be alone with Fred.
He had just about had enough of the tension between you both and took every chance he got to get the two of you alone, by any means necessary.
When you heard Georgeâs bedroom door close, you noticed Fred scoot closer to you on the couch until your legs were touching. He slung his arm over your shoulders and you swung your legs up to lay across his lap.
âWhat were you thinking about earlier? While Gin and I were playing by the fireplace?â Fred wondered aloud.
âOh, I was looking at all the pictures on the walls at your Mum and Dadâs. I saw one from you and Georgeâs first day at Hogwarts and I was thinking about how we first met.â
âHmm, so you were thinking about one of the most embarrassing moments in my life?â
âPlease, youâve done much, much worse. Remember that time in our sixth year when you tried to outdrink George after we won the Slytherin match and you â â
âAh, ah, ah, I thought we agreed to never speak of that incident again,â Fred said as he visibly shuddered.
âI was just pointing out that I can think of quite a few moments that were far more embarrassing than tripping on my robes.â
âYouâre one to talk! Donât you remember our fifth year when you and George were running from Filch and you knocked Wood to the ground? Bloody broke his arm, you were so lucky Madame Pomfrey had him fixed up before our next match or he wouldâve had a heart attack.â
A loud laugh escaped your lips as you covered your face in embarrassment; that was the year you had followed Oliver around like a lost puppy, although your schoolgirl crush paled in comparison to how youâd felt for Fred back then and now as well but neither twin would ever let you live it down.
âDo you remember the Yule Ball? When Flitwick caught you trying to spike the punch and you slipped and fell in the middle of the dance floor?â You chuckled at the memory, even if the Yule Ball was an event you had tried to forget.
âYou were so mad at me that night and the whole week before, I was terribly distracted. If we had been on good terms I wouldâve gotten away with it and the slipping never would have happened.â
âWell, itâs your own fault we were fighting! I still canât believe you didnât ask me to go with you.â
âOi, itâs not my fault when you never said you wanted me to ask you.â
âI thought I had made it painfully obvious when I asked you every morning at breakfast if youâd found a date yet and told you that I didnât have one either.â
Fred threw his head back and laughed, the thought of your shocked face when he had asked Angelina was too priceless a memory to ever forget.
âYou were so jealous,â Fred mumbled.
âJealous?!â you screeched. âI wasnât jealous, I was annoyed that I had to spend all night with some Durmstrang tosser stepping on my toes. Weâve had this argument literally a million times.â
âNo, you were definitely jealous. You shot poor Angie daggers the whole night and sheâs such a lovely girl.â
âI shot her daggers because she hogged you and I didnât get to dance with my best friend a single time at the only Ball we ever had at school.â
âI wouldâve asked you to dance if you werenât mad at me, and you know she was only dancing with me to make George jealous, even if he was oblivious.â
You smiled at that; you knew Angelina only had eyes for George and that going with Fred was some elaborate ruse. Shockingly, it ended up working, and he and Angelina have been together ever since.
âStill think you were jealous,â Fred challenged, poking you in the exact spot on your abdomen that he knew you were ticklish.
âFred Weasley, for the last time, I was not jealous,â you emphasized as you poked him back.
âDonât start something you canât finish, love,â he said lowly, a daring glint in his eye.
Never one to heed warnings or follow directions, you poked him again and within seconds he had you pinned underneath him on the couch, his fingers trailing up and down your sides as you couldnât help but laugh boisterously beneath him.
âFred â â you gasped. âFreddie, please, I actually think I might pee on your couch.â
âNot until you admit you were jealous that I asked Angelina!â
You shook your head, the combination of laughter and trying to catch your breath kept you from firing back a witty remark.
After a few moments, you simply couldnât take anymore and shouted out, âFINE. Fine, you win.â
âWhat was that, lovey? I couldnât quite hear you.â
âI said, fine, I admit it. I was jealous that you asked Angelina when I wanted you to ask me,â you grumbled, struggling to catch your breath in between words.
âSee, now that wasnât so hard, was it?â
You glared up at him and moved to push him off of you when you realized just how close his face was to yours. If you concentrated hard enough, you could count each individual freckle splattered across his nose and cheeks. Almost instinctually, your eyes flickered down to his lips, but you wouldnât give him the satisfaction of staring, so you quickly looked away.
Fred noticed that you couldnât take your eyes off of him and, in true Fred Weasley fashion, couldnât resist a flirty joke.
âYou really want to kiss me right now, donât you?â Fred chuckled.
âYeah,â you sighed, âyeah, I do.â
Surging forward, you pressed your lips to his and immediately wove your fingers through the hair at the base of his neck. You were so tired; tired of the constant flirting and feeling as if you would forever have to love him from afar while he lived his life blissfully unaware of how much it hurt you to hide how you felt.
His arms wrapped around your waist and pulled you closer to him; the raw emotion in the way he desperately kissed you left little doubt in your mind that he had wanted this for as long as you had. His hands slipped under your shirt and his fingers blazed a trail of fire up your spine; a breathy moan escaped your lips but Fred swallowed the sound with his mouth, deepening the kiss and pulling you even closer.
A scream from behind the couch caused you to jump apart, chests heaving and hair sticking up every possible way. You sat up to look over the back of the couch to see George Weasley, looking visibly shaken and guilty, with his hands covering his eyes.
âOh my god, I leave you alone for thirty minutes and youâre about to shag on my bloody couch. Jesus, ok, let me just, uh, well, Iâve probably ruined the mood, havenât I?â
âGeorge,â you hissed. âWhat are you doing sneaking around, I thought you were going to bed?!â
âYeah, I said I was,â he said sheepishly as he uncovered his eyes, âbut I might have been eavesdropping on your conversation. When I heard it go all quiet, I thought Iâd come out and see if you two fools had fallen asleep, but clearly, that was not the case.â
âEavesdropping? I swear to Merlin, George, youâre a ten year old boy. I canât believe you! Of all the immature and invasive things to do, my God.â
âWell, pardon me, I just wanted to see if my idiot brother would finally grow some balls and tell you heâs in love with you!â
âIâm not sure what youâre on about but that doesnât mean you can just sneak up on people,â you chided. Â âFred, would you please back me up here, what is wrong with you â â
You turned around to pull Fred into the argument only to find him sitting on top of the coffee table with a dazed look in his eyes and flushed cheeks.
âFred, are you alright?â you asked worriedly.
He slowly lifted his head and looked into your eyes; you could see just how flushed his face was now that he wasnât staring at the floor and good Godric, he was as red as the hair on his head.
âIâŠIâŠYou,â he stammered. âYou kissed me?â
âYes, I suppose that is what happened,â you muttered sheepishly.
âY/N Y/L/NâŠyouâŠyou kissed me?â
âFreddie, what the hell is the matter with you?â
George burst into laughter and you whirled back around to glare at him, however, this time, he didnât hush up like he usually did.
âLike I said before, heâs in love with you, and now he canât even form a coherent sentence because you kissed him, this is golden. Olâ cock sure Freddie, a pile of mush because of a little makeout sesh, Iâve got to send an owl to LeeâŠâ George trailed off as he turned and rushed back towards his bedroom.
You took another look at Freddie and smiled at the lovestruck look on his face. He was shaking his head in his hands and you saw the redness on his neck as well, which only happened when he was well and truly flustered.
âThis is so humiliating,â he groaned as you sat down next to him.
âI think itâs rather cute, if that makes you feel any better,â you said as you chuckled and placed a hand on his thigh.
He removed his head from his hands and looked at you adoringly, the giddy smile on his face ignited butterflies in your stomach and your heart beat wildly in your chest. Â
âAll the times I imagined how this would pan outâŠit definitely wasnât supposed to happen this way. I mean, not that Iâm mad about it, it was incredibly sexy how you just grabbed me and kissed me, but I wasnât supposed to be a bumbling fool afterwards.â
A moment of silence washed over the both of you as Fred intertwined your hands and steadily held your gaze.
âGeorge was right, you know. I am in love with you. Have been for quite a long time, if Iâm being honest.â
âWell, in the spirit of honesty, I guess I should say that Iâm in love with you too.â
âBloody brilliant,â he sighed as he leaned in to kiss you again, but you stopped him just before your lips touched.
âYouâre not going to pass out or anything if we kiss again, are you?â
âNo promises, love, but Iâll try my best.â

(Y/N)'s point of view
Time is a weird thing. I remember when I was in school and time didn't pass fast enough. Semesters were eternal. It felt it had been years by the time summer vacation arrived. The complete opposite happened to me at the BAU. Suddenly, time passed too quickly. A whole year and a half went by in the blink of an eye.
I told Spencer about it, and he sent me a paper published by Professor Adrian Bejan that presented an argument based on the physics of neural signal processing. He hypothesizes that, over time, the rate at which we process visual information slows down, and this is what makes time 'speed up' as we grow older.
My answer was that I thought it happened 'cos as we grew older, we did things that actually gave us joy, which made us feel the time was passing faster than before. So we argued a whole Saturday afternoon about it and created our own theories for that event.
My theory was my personal favorite, 'cos it was the only one that could easily explain why so much time had passed in the BAU, and it felt like it had been just a few weeks.
It hadn't been easy, though. Those nineteen months had been filled with some of the worst situations we had been through as a team.
After I got shot, JJ finally admitted her relationship with Will and got pregnant. That was shocking, the first BAU baby: Henry.
Sadly, Henry was the only little good thing that happened that year. Because to sum it up, a bunch of awful shit happened to all of us: Hotch was in a car explosion that almost killed him. Spencer and Prentiss got trapped in an undercover mission into an underground cult to investigate child abuse, and Emily was beaten up pretty badly. Also, Spencer got infected with anthrax and nearly died. That was probably the most agonizing moment I had lived since the whole Tobias Hankel situation two years earlier.
Also, that year Prentiss had to investigate the case of the death of one of her best friends, and I was in a pretty nasty fight with an unsub that got me out of the field for three weeks. Not to mention, Spencer was shot in the leg.
Hotch was stabbed by the only unsub that has actually won against the BAU: Foyet. He attacked Aaron and got on the lose for months, but we all knew his next move as torture Hotch's family. That's why his ex-wife Haley and his little son Jack had to go into protective custody, and he couldn't see them for months while we tried to catch Foyet.
Things didn't go as planned. And without a doubt, the worst moment that year was the day Haley died. Foyet killed her, and Aaron lost it. He literally killed him with his bare hands the moment he got him. For a solid week, I was sure Aaron Hotchner wouldn't be the unit chief anymore. Strauss actually opened an investigation related to everything that happened that day. But in the end, somehow, she understood the "bloodbath" that had happened in that house was all in Foyet's hands.
However, there's no way to deny that the whole team had changed in many ways after that year. The concept of being a family was now more present than ever. After chasing Foyet for months, we were all onto him as if he was chasing our own family, because he was.
You don't work this kind of job with a team like mine and don't get attached to them. And this goes beyond how in love I was with Spencer. The (Y/N) who first stepped into the BAU, scared to show her true self, was long gone. And despite my deepest fears, letting them in and showing them who I really was had been one of the smartest decisions I have ever made.
Do you want to know which was my stupidest decision? Falling in love with Spencer Reid. It hadn't actually been my choice. I just didn't fight the feeling either. I don't think I could have even if I tried, though. Those nineteen months brought us so close, my mom thought we were living together, and the teasing from our friends was so common we weren't even affected by it.
For Christ Sakes, even Strauss thought we were dating! She forced us to attend a seminar on fraternization, concerned after she realized we always took our vacation together. We had a lot of fun trips, though. First, we visited his mom and had an amazing weekend in Las Vegas. Then we took a few days off after the anthrax incident and went to Hawaii. Picture Spencer Reid in an "all-inclusive," drinking all the coffee and eating all the pastries possible while reading a million books underneath an extra-large umbrella. We had fun that week, did some local touring, but most of all, sleeping in and relaxing. Spencer hates the beach but got those tickets anyway.
Did everybody think we were a couple? Yes
Did it help that we shared rooms, 'cos we were already used to it? No
Did it feel like a honeymoon without sex? Yes
Could I stop thinking about sex with Spencer? No.
And all that led us to the nightmare our relationship was going to become.
Penelope Garcia was drunk. She kept pouring shots and pushing them to us. Emily was wasted as well. But she kept acting like the classy lady she is. Not like JJ. My poor baby had mascara smeared under her eyes after crying for like an hour.
We found out she was leaving the team, and it was a hard blow on us. And by hard, I mean the worst thing that had ever happened to us. We had suffered without JJ when she was on maternity leave. And we struggled without her. Now knowing the Pentagon had taken her away from the BAU was torture.
We had a goodbye party for her at Rossi's, but this was our goodbye girl's night, and neither of us was holding anything back.
We had cried, we had sung sad songs. We drank all the champagne, wine, and vodka we could find. And now, holding our tequila shots, we knew it was time to call it a night.
- "I just love you girls so much,"- JJ whispered, crying- I don't wanna work without you.
- "Boo, come here!!"- I opened my arms and wrapped them around my friend, kissing the top of her hair a few times- "I love you too, and you are going to come back so soon you won't have time to miss us. You'll see. Papa Rossi and Dada Hotch are gonna fix everything."
I was drunk. Seriously drunk. But that wasn't the reason why I was so sweet with JJ. The truth is, I was broken-hearted. Like Penelope and Reid, I didn't manage change very well, and the fact that JJ was forced to leave made me feel frustrated and mad. But most of all, it made me think of every time I had been a little bitch with her during the years. And I regretted each one of them.
- "And we won't be far!"- Emily added and caressed JJ's arm, smiling kindly- "You will still be in town, and we will not leave you alone"- JJ chuckled and nodded.
- "I know, girls. Shit, I love you all so much!"
- "We love you too!"- Penelope sobbed and moved closer, wrapping the three of us in her arms.
- "Please, take care!"- JJ wiped off the tears from her eyes and looked at us- "Emily, don't do anything stupid! Don't rush in the field, and please don't take your fucking vest off!!"
- "I won't! I promise!"
- "You have to live to be Unit chief one day!"- JJ added, and Prentiss widened her eyes, shocked.
- "That's not really my gold."
- "But you'd be queen, baby!!"- Jareau added and turned to Penelope- "And you, please make sure Hotch eats. I kept a stack of granola bars on my desk to keep him fueled during the day. He usually forgets lunchtime and skips dinner, so..."
- "Don't worry, JJ,"- Penelope nodded, and we all felt our heartbreak a little thinking about all the things JJ did in her daily basics to take care of the team, and we didn't even know.
- "How are we going to survive without you?"- I mumbled, pouting. JJ chuckled and held my hand.
- "You are a rock, and you will do a fantastic job keeping this team together. Just, please, can you and Spencer start dating now?"
I wide opened my eyes and stared at JJ. The comment surprised me. I shouldn't, 'cos the whole "you and Spencer should start dating" joke was getting old. Only this time, JJ wasn't joking. She held both my hands and looked right into my eyes.
- "(Y/N), he loves you"- I was about to argue with her, but she covered my mouth with her Cheetos smelling hand.
- "Don't say a word! Spencer loves you so much you really must be blind not to see it. And I know you love him too. It's implied in all the little things you do for him every day. So don't take it for granted. Don't think this will last forever 'cos look at me! A week ago, I was happily working at the BAU, and now I'm drinking at my goodbye party! So don't waste any more time! You are in love with Spencer, and he loves you! It doesn't take a profiler to see it. So please! Act on it!"
There was a dramatic silence after. I didn't know how to break it. I could just joke around, but somehow, it didn't feel right. It had been too quiet for too long, and that made everything harder to deny. Finally, Emily put her hand on mine, just like JJ was still doing, and smiled at me.
- "There's nothing to be ashamed of, (Y/N). You are not the first person to fall for her best friend."
- "And the Junior G Man loves you so much,"- Penelope added, landing her hand on our hands too.
- "As his friend"- I corrected and sighed. I guess that was it. After three years, I could probably start facing my feelings in front of my friends.
- "No, (Y/N)"- Garcia tried to argue, but I shook my head and stood up, 'cos all that sudden attention and affection was bothering me.
- "PG, I was in Hawaii with the man, sharing a room, walking around in a bikini, and he didn't do anything."
- "That's because he is shy!"- Emily excused him right away.
- "My bikini leaves pretty much nothing to the imagination. Do you know what he said when he first saw me on it?"- I looked at my friend and poured us another round of tequila- "And I quote, "I don't think I brought enough books. This one is too interesting."
I air quoted with my fingers as we spoke, and the three of them looked at me, speechless. I made my point and drank my shot, feeling the alcohol burning down my throat. My friends opened their mouths but didn't produce a word. I sighed and looked at them.
- "But he hates the beach, and he took you there anyway,"- Emily pointed out
- "Did he give you his speech about how he hates sandy food?"- JJ asked me, and I chuckled, nodding.
- "And about pink skin, limited and unengaging topography, and of course, the real reason he hates the beach: drug-resistant bacteria spread by seagull feces."
- "And the man took you to the beach!"- Penelope argued.
- "But he didn't do anything! he didn't make his move, didn't even hold my hand!!"- I nearly shouted- "That's why, among a lot of reasons, is how I know Spencer is not interested in me! If only I'd tell you all the shit we've been through!"
- "Please!! Tell us!!"- Garcia begged and grabbed one of my legs- "I won't live another day 'cos I won't be able to deal with the mystery!"
- "No! 'cos you are gonna tell Morgan"- I slurred- "And he is going to embarrass and tease my honey bunny, and my honey bunny is gonna get all nervous and nervous around me, and we are never going to..."- I stopped talking and looked at my friends. I was sharing too much.
- "(Y/N)?"- Prentiss looked at me, but I just shook my head and looked down.
- "I think I better go home."
- "No, you can't drive like this,"- JJ argued immediately and held my hand- "I'm not gonna let you go intoxicated. Will is gonna come pick me up, and we'll drop you in your place."
I nodded at her and stayed still. My friends smiled at me, and slowly very slowly, I leaned on JJ's shoulder and rested my head on it.
- "I love you, boo,"- I whispered, and she giggled- "I don't think I'll stay sane without you there with us anymore."
- "Hotch is gonna manage to get her back,"- Penelope assured me, and I just nodded.
- "Meanwhile, we won't replace you, and if anyone tries to push someone new into the team, we are not gonna take them,"- I added, feeling JJ's hand holding mine.
- "Don't be mean with people just 'cos you miss me. If there's a new teammate, it won't be their fault I was pushed out of the BAU."
- "But, JJ,"- I tried to argue, but she shook her head right away.
- "No, (Y/N). You can't be mean to people just because."
Clearly, my friend hoped I could be the better person. The simple question was: did I want to be the better person? Right there, drunk and sad, the answer was no.
Spencer's point of view
I kept finding myself awake at four in the morning, walking around my apartment, not able to read or to write anything. For the last months, at least twice or three times each week, I would stay awake, no matter how tired I felt, and I would haunt my own apartment, listening to my vinyl records.
The sudden lack of sleep wasn't really something weird in me. I have always been nocturnal. Besides, the news of JJ's departure had hit us all pretty hard. I had already shared my share of tears and tried to manage the fury that caused me to know we were helpless to the government's decisions. There was nothing we could do, neither us, Hotch, or even Strauss. Not that she would if she could.
My family was in crisis, and all we could do was hope for the best and stay together.
It was scary losing JJ. It made me think of all the things that could go wrong every day on the field daily. It was bad that we could get hurt or even die on our work. But that they divided us that way made no sense. Like Rossi said: our loss was someone else's winning, and in the FBI, no one cared if we lost.
I poured myself a cup of herbal tea and inhaled the smell of it. It smelled like home. Like (Y/N). She had some of her favorite teas in my apartment. She had a bunch of all her things there, actually. When mom visited, she thought we were living together. She is still sure we are dating and that I don't wanna tell her. I don't longer argue with her about it. It's useless, and it somehow feels good to imagine in another world. It was actually true.
That year my feelings for my best friend had grown in a way that made it all more difficult to deal with. I didn't just love her. I was in love with her. She was in everything I did, in each and every one of my thoughts. I could hear her laughter in my head, like a record playing my favorite song over and over again.
When she was out there in the field, I couldn't stop running all the probabilities of her getting hurt, and most of the time, I would do my best to keep her safe, knowing it could somehow interfere with the case.
Hotch had called me to his office a few times, aware something was going with me. He could read it on my face, I guess. It was scary to know everybody could read my feelings for (Y/N) but her. And it was sad to think of the worst: that she knew how much I loved her, but she didn't feel the same, and she was just being my friend 'cos she was never going to be anything else but my friend.
I drank my tea and hummed the song that sounded in my house at four in the morning: Love is a losing game. Seemed pretty accurate for my mood. I remember the day I got that vinyl. We were out with (Y/N), Frank, and Lu, looking for a present for Mikey's birthday, and we ended up in a record store, getting a million vinyl records for ourselves.
- "Are you getting all those?"- (Y/N) asked me and looked at the seven albums in my hand.
- "Yes, why? I can't?"- I answered and raised an eyebrow.
- "Sassy!"- she giggled and grabbed them- "You can get all the albums you want. But I have to give my approval first. No, you are not getting this!"- she grabbed The Beatles' Revolver and left it aside.
- "What? Why? It's only one I need to complete my collection."
- "I know, but when you get it, you'll force me to listen to it, and I don't like the Beatles,"- she argued, and I just shook my head, taking the album again.
- "Sorry, chipmunk, I'm buying it."
- "Fine. I won't go to your house for the next couple of weeks then."
- "Why don't you tell me which album you wanna listen to when you are in my house then?"- I looked at her, smiling at me and looking for a record on the shelves.
- "This! You need some Amy in your life."
And I did. Now, at four in the morning, all alone walking around, I could see her in my apartment, singing along to her favorite songs while cooking dinner, feeling at home. I wished she was there, with me, doing nothing. Watching tv, or reading. Just hanging out. I knew it wasn't healthy being in love with my friend, seeing her every day, and also hanging out with her every chance I got. But even when I knew she was never going to love me the way I did, I was going to take every chance I had to enjoy her company. If that was all I was going to get.
My phone took me from my thoughts, and I quickly walked to my room to get it. I thought it was Hotch announcing a case, but it was JJ.
- "Hey! JJ, everything ok? Is Henry ok?"
- "Yes, hi Spence. We are all ok."
- "It's four in the morning."
- "Sorry I woke you up... I just..." - she made a pause and sighed at the other side of the line- "Spencer, you know I love you."
- "I love you too. You are one of my best friends. Is everything ok?"
- "Yes, I just wanted to... remember a bunch of years ago, when you asked me to that football game?"
A million years had passed since the one and only time I had asked JJ out. It was the only move I tried to do on her, and I failed incredibly. It was awkward, and she had no idea it was a date, so she invited Garcia to come along. I was so embarrassed I never even mentioned that single event ever again, and our friendship grew after.
- "Yes, I remember, JJ. Why?"
- "When you asked me out, did you have a crush on me?"
- "JJ, are you drunk?"- I had to ask 'cos that conversation was starting to scare me.
- "Yes, but that's not why I'm talking about this. Just answer the questions, Spence. When you asked me out on that date, did you have a crush on me?"
- "Yes, I did."
I closed my eyes, embarrassed to face feelings that were far forgotten.
- "You see, I had a crush on you too back then,"- JJ said and chuckled- "But neither of us acted on it, and life continued, and now I'm in love with Will, and we have a baby, and you are his godfather."
Of all the things I thought I would listen to that day, never in a million years, I imagined I would hear JJ drunk telling me she had a crush on me when we first met.
- "Now, do you want that to happen again?"- she asked, and I didn't get it, 'cos I was still trying to process what I had just heard. So I might have had a relationship with her if only I had said something, act on it. Kiss her, ask her out again?
- "What?"
- "Spence. Do you want to miss the chance to be with the girl you like?"
- "No, but JJ, what are you talking about?"
She sighed, frustrated, and used that tone of voice with me, that very maternal specific tone of voice she used to explain things she knew were hard for me to follow.
- "When you like someone, Spence, you have to tell her. 'Cos sometimes, life gets in the way, and if you don't do what you have to do to be happy, no one will do it for you."
- "Are you ok, JJ?"
- "Yes, Spence, I'm ok. I'm home with Will. We just got here after dropping (Y/N) off her place."
- "How was she?"
- "She might have had a few too many drinks, but she'll be ok in the morning. Maybe she'd appreciate it if you brought her coffee and donuts."
- "She doesn't like donuts,"- I corrected her- "She likes cupcakes and brownies."
- "Sorry. Coffee and cupcakes... just tell her you love her, Spence. She deserves to know."
I held my breath and closed my eyes. I didn't get why JJ was telling me that, but I knew I didn't want to talk about it. So I said good night and hung up.
What was the point of telling me we could have been a couple of years had passed already? Why didn't she say a thing before? Or even better, why didn't she ever say a word about it at all? So I missed the chance to be happy with her. Great. One more regret to add to my list.
I laid on my bed and tried to remember that date. I was so nervous that day, my hands shook inside my pockets as I walked to JJ's door. She looked beautiful that day, especially when she looked at me and announced she had invited Penelope to join us.
That was when I realized she would never see me as a proper date, just like a friend. And I learned to make my peace with that over the years. My crush for JJ lasted a few more months, but it vanished when I fell for (Y/N). What if she had never joined the team? Would I have been in love with JJ forever? Jeniffer always made me feel like her little brother, and I guess that's the mechanic that works for us. We were good friends ever since we met, and yes, I had a crush on her, but we work more like siblings than anything else.
What was the point in telling me I had missed a chance with her now? I just couldn't see it.
(Y/N)'s point of view
The next few weeks were us trying to survive without JJ. The team was making the best it could, but it was hard. Penelope took the lead during the second case without JJ. She turned into our tech analyst and communication liaison, only to collapse under the pressure of having two roles.
No one was going to replace JJ. We all knew it. Literally, no one, 'cos Hotch decided he and Garcia were going to split the job, and we were all going to collaborate as much as we could, 'cos we were a team. A family. And that's what families do.
And families were the target of the unsub we were hunting the day everything changed. Again. I hadn't recovered from the departure of JJ when Rossi and Hotch walked to the bullpen and introduced us to Agent Trainee Ashley Seaver.
My nemesis.
- "Agent trainee Seaver"- Rossi smiled at her like a proud father and looked at us as we stood up, wondering who she was- "Supervisory Special Agent Prentiss, (Y/L/N), and Morgan."
- "I've heard so much about the three of you,"- she said with the sweetest tone of voice I had ever heard. Something about that felt odd.
- "I hope it is all good- Morgan flirted right away, of course."
- "Very, sir."
- "Anything specific? I mean about me in particular?"- I turned to him and failed in holding back my chuckles.
- "Please, don't encourage him, or he will never stop talking,"- I said, and Derek elbowed me playfully. Seaver smiled at us and even blushed a little bit. She was nervous.
- "Agent Seaver is on loan to us from the academy while she is remedial training with an injury."
Hotch announced. And my stomach tightened right away. There was something wrong with that whole scene. I could feel it in my guts. But I didn't know why?
- "Concussion. Hand to hand got a little out of control."- Seaver explained and kept a silly smile on her face.
- "How's the other guy?"- Prentiss asked.
- "Don't ask."
- "I was remediated in the academy also,"- Spencer said, walking over us, and suddenly I understood why I had a bad feeling about everything.
- "Agent Seaver, Dr. Reid."
As soon as I heard Rossi say those words, there was a part of me who just wanted to hold Spencer's hand and push him away from her, even before they could say hi. She looked at him like he was eye candy, and I clenched my knuckles as I stared at the scene.
- "Uhm... What was your issue?"- she asked him, and I could see the pink on her cheek intensifying as he looked at her, confused.
- "What was my issue? Marksmanship, physical training, obstacle course, Hogan's alley. You know, pretty much everything that wasn't technically book related. They ultimately had to make exceptions to allow me into the field."
Seaver stared at him and kept nodding, though I wondered if she was listening to what he had said. Spencer looked exceedingly handsome that day. His hair was very short for the first time in years, and he still had no idea how to comb it, so it was all over the place, making him look as hot as fuck.
I was so in love with him, I didn't know what to do with those feelings at all. It was hard working with Reid at that point. I just wanted to kiss him.
- "Agent Seaver's going to accompany us to New Mexico,"- Aaron announced, and I couldn't help but question him right away.
- "She is?"
- "As a consultant."- he assured me.
- "On?"- Morgan raised an eyebrow and looked at Hotch, wondering what a trainee agent could help us with as a consultant.
- "She has a unique perspective,"- Rossi tried to explain, but it sounded like bullshit.
- "They don't know?"- Seaver turned to the elderly agents, and they shook their heads.
- "Well, we weren't sure how you wanted to,"- David whispered.
- "Uh... Seaver's not my original last name. It's my mother's maiden name. Mine used to be Beauchamp. My father is Charles Beauchamp"- Ashley was supposed to explain the circumstances of her consultancy to the whole team, but she just looked at Spencer as she spoke.
- "As in the Redmond ripper, Charles Beauchamp?"- he asked her, and suddenly, it clicked. It was like my whole body was telling me I couldn't be close to her for a reason.
- "That's him,"- she whispered and kept her eyes on my best friend as he continued talking.
- "He killed 25 women over 10 years in rural North Dakota. I think that you caught him, right, Rossi?"- and David nodded.
- "Hotch was on that team, too."
- "Based on her life experience, we were hoping that agent Seaver might recognize something in the family dynamics inside the community that could be helpful. We have a plane waiting,"- Hotch announced and looked at us, but none of us said a word.
I kept my eyes glued at my feet the whole time Aaron talked. Then, Spencer nodded and walked with Seaver and Rossi out to the hangar. I couldn't even blink. I think I was in shock.
- "Her father was a serial killer?"- Prentiss asked Hotch, not getting what he was thinking.
- "That's definitely a different set of parameters,"- Morgan added. Neither of them was sold on the idea, which made me feel a little bit better.
- "I don't want her presence to get us sidetracked. It's a long shot that she's gonna see anything helpful. We work it like any other case,"- Hotch was clear, and Prentiss and Morgan nodded.
- "You got it."
But I disagreed with that.
- "(Y/N), is everything ok?"- Aaron asked me, and I tried my best to lie and be cool.
- "Yeah, I'm ok."
- "Ok. We work this like any other case. Wheels up in twenty."
But everything was far from being ok.
I sat next to Spencer on the jet, and we reviewed the case files together. Hotch briefed us, and we all pretended it wasn't weird having Seaver there. And I guess we had to pretend it wasn't odd knowing her dad was a serial killer.
- "You are very young, (Y/N),"- she said and smiled at me. She was sitting across from Spencer and me, and you could tell she had been trying to join the conversation for a few minutes now.
-" Twenty eight,"- I answered and looked at the files again.
- "And you, doctor?"
- "You can call me Reid. I'm twenty eight too,"- Spencer cut her a short, awkward, and nervous smile, and I turned to him.
- "Honey, did I leave my Mets jersey at your house?"- it was the only question that came to my mind at that minute. It was completely random, but somehow it showed a part of our dynamic that Ashley didn't know. Our friendship. Our closeness.
- "Yes, I found it last night,"- he answered and sipped his coffee- "I was gonna bring it over, but then I remembered you always borrow all my sweaters when you are home or when you stay over, so I thought maybe it was a good idea to keep it at my place."
- "I don't know, Batsy. It's my favorite sweatshirt- I raised an eyebrow, and I'm pretty sure I even flirted a little bit."
- "So? You need to keep one there."
- "But I like wearing your clothes when we are at your place. It's extra large and extra comfy."
- "Is that why you keep taking my sweaters back to your house?"- he asked and chuckled- "Last Sunday, I found four of my sweaters in your closet."
- "Sorry, I'm not even sorry,"- I said and laughed- "And what were you doing in my closet?"
- "Lucy, Ricky, can we focus on the case?"- Morgan asked and waved at us with one silly grin on his face- "We love hearing your adorable daily adventures, but we've got a psycho killer to catch."
Spencer blushed and flustered right away. I stuck out my tongue at Morgan and just shook my head. The way Seaver looked at Reid was still driving me nuts, but I felt I had shown her he was mine, childishly.
It's embarrassing to think that's not the most childish thing I did around her those days. Or in the weeks to follow. But I didn't like Ashley, and I didn't want her around my team. And it wasn't just her constant flirting with Spencer. It was the fact her father had killed my mother's sister when she was in college, and I was making my best effort to keep that fact aside from work. My personal life had to stay out of the FBI, especially when working a case.
I had to do some serious mental work trying to remember it wasn't Ashley's fault her father was a sick bastard. She hadn't hurt my family, and her father had ruined her life too. It wasn't her fault.
But one thing is knowing. Another thing is being rational about it. Spoiler: I wasn't so rational about it.
- "So, (Y/N). Do you like working at the BAU?"- Ashley asked me and looked at me through the rearview mirror. We were in the SUV, and Prentiss was driving. I was in the back seat, trying to ignore her, but she made it impossible.
- "Yes, very much,"- I answered and nodded, not taking my eyes from the window.
- "Everybody is very friendly,"- Seaver added and made a pause. I don't know if she wanted me to say something or if she was trying to find a way to say what she wanted to say.
- "Yes, they are,"- I humored her, and she quickly responded.
- "Are you and Spencer dating?"- I could feel the blood raising my cheeks as she spoke. And Prentiss flashed me a look through the mirror as Ashley continued talking.
- "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be rude. I just wondered because of the fraternization policy."
- "Right. Sure. Of course."
Those three words were meant to let Ashley know I wasn't buying her bullshit, So I literally spit them.
- "Spencer is my best friend. We are not dating."
Facing that simple truth had never been harder before, especially after how I saw Ashley's face light up.
- "You just seem to be so close."
- "Oh, they are close,"- Emily smiled at me and winked- "They are so close, they sometimes freak us out."
- "We freak you out?"- I raised an eyebrow and carefully hit her arm, pretending to be upset. But honestly, I was glad she was teasing me.
- "I am just saying, we are all pretty suspicious about you two. I am actually surprised you didn't share rooms tonight. They usually share rooms."- Emily explained to Seaver.
- "He was paired with Morgan,"- I pouted and looked at my phone. I thought maybe I could send him a funny text. I actually wanted to hang out with him.
- "He is very nice,"- Ashley added- "I mean, everybody is nice."
- "Yes, you mentioned it"
I was clearly not being nice. Seaver nodded and looked at the files again. I assumed she was trying to find a way to keep asking about Spencer, and I was making my best not to kill her.
- "Working with a genius must be somehow intimidating,"- she said after a few minutes. Damn it, she wasn't going to let that subject go.
- "It's fun working with Spencer,"- Prentiss said, trying to humor Seaver. And mostly, I guess trying to ease my mood and keep me from killing the trainee agent.
- "I'm sure it is,"- Seaver added. I hated her.
- "He is more than just a genius, he is a nerd."- Emily pointed out and chuckled at her words, making Seaver giggle too. I looked at my book again, but I knew I wasn't going to be able to concentrate on it at all. He was my nerd. Mine.
- "Well, it's very refreshing to be with a group who trusts and works so well together,"- she added- "I had never felt less judged and more welcome in my entire life."
I know I should have felt sorry for her. But I honestly couldn't. That was the day I realized I wasn't the good person I thought I was. There was a part of me that was a scumbag. I'm guessing knowing that is pretty helpful and positive 'cos you can work on your flaws. But I wasn't planning on working on anything at that minute, though. I just wanted to break Seaver's face.
Spencer's point of view
I didn't like working without JJ. I've never been good with change, and that was a massive alteration of our routine. I missed her, and adding Ashley to the team made things even weirder for me, even for a case. I didn't want to be judgemental, but her father was a serial killer. Of course, that would make things weird.
Besides, everybody kept bugging me, teasing me, trying to see if I liked Seaver. Penelope called while we were on the case and started taunting me, saying she knew I thought Ashley was cute. I could see she was beautiful, but I couldn't see her that way. And I didn't want anyone to say those kinds of things around (Y/N).
Why did I care so much?
I didn't want to face it 'cos I knew it was completely platonic, but I didn't want (Y/N) to think I had a crush on Seaver. I knew my best friend didn't have romantic feelings for me, and I also knew I wasn't going to make a move on her or anything. But I didn't want things to change more than they already had. And most of all, I didn't want anything to alter my dynamic with (Y/N).
But at the same time, somehow, it felt everything was already different between us.
- "Hey, honey bunny,"- (Y/N) walked to me and handed me a cup of coffee- "I thought you might need one of these."
- "You are a lifesaver,"- I whispered and sipped the cup. It was perfect.
We were on the jet on our way back home. The whole team was mostly quiet. The mood was weird. Ashley had done something quite reckless earlier and nearly got herself killed. She walked to the unsub's house all alone, not knowing he was our guy. She almost died, and none of us can even imagine what went through her head to do such a thing.
Rossi and Hotch walked to her. (Y/N) looked at me, and I could read on her face that both of us knew what was going to happen.
Ashley was alone when David sat in front of her, and Hotch stood in the middle of the aisle. Maybe that had been insensitive of us. Neither of us tried to contain her. Neither of us really knew her that well. Or at all, as a matter of fact.
- "You were not supposed to go off on your own."- Hotch went straight to the point.
- "I know,"- she whispered, and I could see how (Y/N)'s face changed. I tried to read her, but all I was able to see was... anger? I had to be wronged. She had no reason to be mad at Ashley.
- "You could have been killed,"- Hotch crossed his arms on his chest and stared at her.
- "I know that, too."
- "Why, Ashley? You're smarter than that"- Rossi sounded like a worried father. I didn't look at him 'cos I kept my eyes on (Y/N)'s, still trying to read her emotions. But what I saw made no sense. She really looked like she was angry at Ashley. Like she hated her.
- "I never got to apologize to any of the victims. The families of the women my father killed. I thought if I could just apologize to one family that had been hurt that way..."
And that was when (Y/N) snapped. She jumped from her seat and walked to Seaver. Aaron and David looked at her surprised, and Morgan turned to me, taking off his headphones. Neither he nor Prentiss got what was happening until that moment.
- "Ok. Shoot!"- (Y/N) sat right in front of Seaver, next to David, and looked at her. But she didn't get it.
- "What? What are you talking about?"
- "You just said you wanted to apologize to one of the families. So go ahead. Try."
The silence on the jet was so deep and awkward it felt no one was ever going to talk again.
- "I'm sorry, (Y/N). But I don't get what you are implying,"- Ashley's voice was a whisper. I knew she was sad and affected, embarrassed even. But I also knew (Y/N), and I could read it on her face. She wasn't joking.
- "You said you wanted to apologize to the family of one of your dad's victims, so go ahead. Apologize to me."
My first instinct was to stand up, which I did. But I froze and didn't take a step closer to (Y/N) when I noticed the severe and cold look in her eyes. I didn't know what she was talking about. But I knew she wasn't bluffing.
- "Why should I... apologize to you?"- Ashley asked her, and her voice broke at a certain point, probably scared of the answer.
- "Your dad killed my mother's older sister. She was in college,"- (Y/N) spit each word with hate and looked at Ashley, waiting for her reply. But Seaver didn't know what to do. She widened her eyes and stayed still. She barely kept her breathing steady.
- "(Y/N), maybe we should let Seaver rest,"- Hotch landed a hand on her shoulder, but my friend shook her head.
- "No, Hotch. By making that choice, she put everyone at risk,"- (Y/N) didn't take her eyes from Ashley as she spoke- "As far as I remember when you are at the academy, they teach you that in the field, we are responsible to and for your team."
- "(Y/N)... I had no idea..."- Ashley tried to apologize, I could see it, but it was clear she wasn't going to win that argument- "I am so sorry."
- "I don't know, Seaver. Did you think saying "sorry" would make those families feel better? 'Cos it ain't working here. "Sorry" won't make my mom stop feeling guilty about what happened. And, if things had gotten ugly back there, "sorry" wouldn't have made your mistake go away in case anyone would have gotten hurt. So no. Sorry doesn't help. Maybe it can ease your conscience, but when you really fuck it up, it never makes things better."
(Y/N) stood up and walked back to her seat in front of me. I let her pass and didn't say a word. I knew she wouldn't want to talk about it there. And, of course, Seaver didn't say a word. She just stood up and walked to the back of the jet, to the bathroom. Rossi and Hotch looked at each other and then looked at me.
David poured a glass of whiskey and walked to (Y/N) slowly. He didn't say a word, he just handed it to her, and she just took it and sipped it with shaky hands.
- "Thanks,"- she whispered, and Rossi nodded. Hotch raised an eyebrow, and for a moment, I thought he was going to say something, but he didn't. He just walked to his seat and opened a case file.
I moved back to my seat and opened my satchel. I had run out of candies earlier that day, so I didn't have much to give to her that could make her smile. So I picked a book and handed it to her. She took it and smiled at me kindly. I knew she was fighting back the tears, and I am sure she has held back all the emotions than being with the daughter of the man who killed her aunt since she knew who Seaver was. And she managed to do the job well. I was proud of her.
- "Wanna grab something to eat when we reach DC?"- I whispered, but for the first time ever, she shook her head.
- "I'm gonna have to catch a rain check for that dinner. I think I wanna go straight to my bed today, honey."- she sipped her glass again, and I nodded.
- "Don't worry, next time."
I was waiting for the train to go back home later that night when I saw Seaver sitting at a bench at the station, staring at her hands on her lap. I didn't see her leaving the BAU, though to be honest, I was really focused on finishing my paperwork to go home. (Y/N) had left as soon as we reached DC, but I had stayed a little longer.
I hesitated for a few seconds before I took a few steps closer and waved at Seaver. She looked at me surprised, as soon as she saw me, but didn't move. I smiled, trying to look friendly, and sat next to her.
- "Hi. What are you doing here?"- I asked her, and she shrugged.
- "I was going to go home, but I think I sat here half an hour ago and haven't been able to move,"- I turned to her and shook my head.
- "Do you want to eat something?"- after what had happened at the jet, I figured Ashley wasn't feeling so good, and maybe talking with someone could help her. She looked at me and blushed; I don't know why. But at least, she smiled and nodded.
- "Great, pizza?"
- "Pizza sounds good."
We were waiting for our food and making small talk. I kept giving Ashley pizza facts to fill the silence 'cos it was weird hanging out with Ashley. I didn't know her, really. We had worked a case together, but that didn't mean I knew her. And, of course, we had the whole jet incident. I felt a little guilty about what had happened, though it wasn't my fault at all in retrospect. I just felt like it was my job cheering her up a little bit after everything she had gone through.
- "How do you do it?"- she asked me all of a sudden- "How do you deal with the pressure of this job?"
- "You get used to it, I guess. I don't know if it's a good thing to get used to, but... it comes with the job, I think,"- I didn't know if I was doing ok comforting her. Then again, I have never been particularly good at it. Not then, not now.
- "Did you always dream about doing this?"- she asked me, and her eyes locked into mine in a way that made me feel slightly uncomfortable.
- "Y... yes. Ever since I was a kid, catching the bad guys,"- Seaver nodded and sipped her coke- "You? Why did you get into the academy?"
I regretted my question right after I asked, just 'cos I realized she might have done it to understand her father's behavior. It was only apparent that had shaped her actions.
- "I guess you know that..."- Ashley answered and smiled, her eyes looking straight into mine. I know I blushed. She is a beautiful woman, though I wasn't thinking about her that way. It was an odd feeling being observed that way.
I was glad our pizza made it to the table, and we were forced to stop talking, and I could focus on anything else but her. Not that I didn't want to look at her, but... I think the right way to explain it is to call it "uneasy." That's how I felt. I wanted to be friendly with her, she had a horrible experience consulting with the team, and I was sure she wasn't really having a good day.
- "This might sound weird, but... do you think I can call you sometime?"- Ashley asked after a few minutes. We were eating and talking about nothing important. I nearly chook at her words and looked at her, nodding.
- "Sure, why?"- I didn't mean to be rude. I just didn't know why she might need to talk to me again.
- "I just think maybe you could help me with a few assignments at the academy."
- "Yeah, of course."
Ashley Seaver smiled and nodded at me, pleased. She took a sip of Sprite, and I could read her, trying to find the words to continue speaking.
- "I'm glad. I was sure you were going to say no."
- "Why?"- I furrowed my brows, confused- "I'm not a big fan of phones, but I can handle a casual phone call."
- "No, I just didn't think your girlfriend would like... I mean, I think (Y/N) hates me, and as her boyfriend, I thought you... would... I don't know."
- "I'm, we are... we,"- I was completely flustered as I tried to rearrange my thoughts. Seaver looked at me innocently and waited for my words.
- "(Y/N) isn't my girlfriend"- it bothered me to admit that simple fact. Why? 'Cos it hurt to think we looked like a couple, but we weren't. Why did Seaver think we were together?
- "Really? But..."
- "She is my best friend,"- I explained poorly. She nodded and hesitated before saying what she was thinking. It was obvious she was trying to arrange the words in her head.
- "It's just that you two... sorry, I'm overstepping,"- Ashley blushed and shook her head- "She is... strong."
- "Yes, very."
- "I think I started with the wrong foot with her."
- "Well, I don't mean to justify anything, but if your father hurt,"- I made a pause, trying to find a way to say it that wasn't so painful.
- "Killed. My father killed her aunt,"- she corrected me with a cold and monotonous tone of voice. I just nodded and sipped my water.
- "She is an amazing person,"- I don't know if I was trying to excuse (Y/N)'s earlier behavior or if I just loved her so much I needed to tell people how awesome she was.
- "I'm sure you will pass this,"- I assured her- "Once you get to know her, and she gets to know you."
- "I don't think she will give me that chance. Besides, I was just clear to assist with only one case."
- "If you want to stay, you can request your remedial training be here. And if Hotch approves it, I could talk to (Y/N). I'm sure she will like to know you better."
Why did I say all that? I had no idea.
- "Thank you, Spence. You are really sweet,"- Ashley moved closer and held my hand. I stayed very still, absolutely awkward.
- "Yeah, I don't... like... holding hands,"- I quickly moved it away and tried to smile at her. She stayed still, not understanding my reaction but trying to act normal.
- "Sorry."
- "That's ok. I'm a germaphobe, that's all."
After pizza, we left the place and said goodnight. I told Ashley I was weary (which was, in fact, the truth) and got her a cab to take her home. After that, I walked to my place. I felt like I needed to be alone for a while. My head was overwhelmed, and in the latest couple of weeks, I had severe trouble sleeping.
I had migraines that nearly blinded me. I was scared they meant I could develop the first signs of schizophrenia, like mom, 'cos they were coming more and more often. It wasn't that bad yet, the light didn't hurt my eyes, and I didn't have any sign of hallucination, but still, I knew it could be serious.
I tried to think of a reason why I might be having those severe headaches. I was eating correctly, mostly 'cos (Y/N) forced me to eat. No, she didn't force me, but she made sure I had all my meals at work, not just coffee. And usually, at the weekends, we would spend our time together, and she was a fantastic cook. So it wasn't an alimentary issue.
I wasn't sleeping well. That wasn't new, but it was getting serious. I wrote and read a lot at night 'cos I couldn't fall asleep until late. I didn't know why. I just couldn't rest. My body ached, and my brain wouldn't sleep. The only nights I could actually get some rest were the ones when (Y/N) stayed with me. It was a blessing when Hotch paired us to share rooms, 'cos I could easily fall asleep when she was around. Her presence soothed me in a way that I didn't understand. Let me put it this way, I know it might sound cheesy, but the beating of her heart set the rhythm for my own, and at night it would bring me peace.
I reached home that night and sighed. I knew I wasn't going to rest easy. (Y/N) wasn't there with me. So I made myself a cup of herbal tea, (Y/N) had a lot of those in my house, and I drank them when I missed her. The smell coming from the cup made me feel like she was close.
How pathetic I had become! But I could only share those thoughts with myself. No one knew I had feelings for her, and I was going to deny it till the end, no matter what had JJ said. I couldn't take that phone call from my mind, and on those sleepless nights, I kept overthinking and overanalyzing everything.
I got into bed with a few books and my cup of herbal tea. I took a look at my cell phone, two new messages.
- "I miss u"
(Y/N) sent, and a warm feeling spread on my chest as I imagined her whispering those words as I read them
- "Breakfast tomorrow before work?"
- "See you at seven-thirty."
I typed and sent it.
What could ever happen if I told her how much in love I am with her? I would lose her, and I'd be alone. She didn't feel that way for me. It was a fact. I was just glad she was my best friend, and I could share everything with her. Was I pathetic? Yes, very, but in a way, it felt it was just all I deserved. Not more, not less. Just being in love with a girl who didn't love me back.
At least she wasn't dating Paul anymore. I hated that guy.
(Y/N)'s point of view
Spencer was waiting for me outside our usual coffee shop, already holding two cups of coffee. His short hair looked dreamy as she smiled and took off his sunglasses. It had to be illegal being that hot. But, seriously, how didn't he get laid? He was fucking dreamy. In the four years we had been best friends, I saw Spencer in many hairstyles, and each of them made him look like a model.
Falling in love with Spencer Reid had been a process I hadn't actually been fully aware of. But I was completely conscious I needed to hide those feelings from him and from everybody at the BAU.
Ok, fine, I had somehow faced part of those feelings in front of my drunk best buddies at Penelope's house, but I never actually confirmed anything. I had just... shared some of my frustrations, I guess.
- "Good morning, honey bunny,"- I smiled and sighed as I stood in front of Spencer, watching him grin back at me and hand me one of the coffee cups.
- "Good morning, chipmunk. Did you get some rest?"
- "Yes, I fell asleep as soon as I reached my bed. I was exhausted."
- "I'm glad you are fully rested."
- "What did you do yesterday?"
- "Nothing,"- he answered quickly and turned around- "I got you a carrot muffin to go."
- "Thank you so much. I'm starving. I didn't even have dinner yesterday."
- "Really?"
- "I told you, I reached home and crawled into my bed."
We walked outside the coffee shop in silence. Spencer bit his donuts, and I ate my muffin. It was nice and calming being with him doing domestic things in life.
I hated how much in love I was with him 'cos I knew I had to shake that feeling away. He was never going to have feelings for me. I was a regular human being, and Spencer Walter Reid was a genius. He deserved better, he was actually never to think about me that way, and I refused to ruin our friendship with those feelings.
- "So, Comic-con is coming. What are we doing this year?"- I asked as I drove us to Quantico.
- "I was thinking we should do something classic,"- he looked at me, nearly beaming on his seat- "We haven't done Star Wars yet."
- "Really?"- I frowned, confused- "All these years? Are you sure?"
- "(Y/N), eidetic memory,"- he argued, and I chuckled- "So, how do you feel about Leia?"
- "Do I have to be Leia 'cos I'm a girl?"- I asked him, and he flustered right away.
- "What? No, you can be whoever you want to be. I was just, it came to my mind... I didn't,"- I giggled and looked at him for a second.
- "I'm messing with you, Batsy. I always wanted to dress as Leia. Surprisingly, I never had. Padme once, it was a mess, but never Leia. Who are you planning to be?"
- "Maybe Luke... or Obi-Wan. Morgan suggested C3PO once."
- "If I'm Leia, you should be Han,"- I don't know why I said that out loud. I thought about it, I pictured it in my head, but I knew I shouldn't have said it. Then why did those words leave my mouth? I don't know.
- "Han Solo... yes... yeah, sure. Of course! We can pick our outfits this weekend."
- "Great! What do you think would look better? Slave Leia or classic all in white Leia?"- Spencer didn't answer. He just sipped his coffee and looked outside the window.
- "You would look good in both,"- his cellphone interrupted our conversations, and I thought it might be a case. But I was so wrong, it hurt.
- "Hello? Oh, hi, Ashley,"- I nearly hit the break as soon as I heard him saying her name, but instead, I turned around and looked at him.
- "Good, yes. On my way to work with (Y/N). Oh, that's good."
I didn't care what she was saying. I just needed to know why that bitch was calling him. I was blind in jealousy, and I was having a hard time hiding it.
- "Really? Emily? That's... that's great. Sure, we'll see you around, gotta go. Bye."
- "What the fuck?"- I swear, I didn't think what I was saying. Those words just slip through my lips straight from my guts. I hated Seaver.
- "That was Ashley."
- "Figured when you said "Hi Ashley." What? Are you best friends with her now?"
- "What? No! No way! She just wanted to say hi... and... She.... asked for my number 'cos she wanted to help her with some of the academy's projects,"- Spencer was so nervous he actually stuttered as he answered my simple question.
- "Of course, she did,"- my voice was bitter and hurt, but most of all, ironic. And I don't know if Spencer didn't want to understand me or actually didn't get the hint, but he just continued talking.
- "She wanted to tell me she requested her remedial training be at the BAU."
- "What?!"- that wasn't subtle. I actually yelled- "I'm gonna have to see her again?"
- "If Hotch approves..."
- "Fuck!! That's awful!!"- I hit the wheel, frustrated.
- "She's not a bad person, (Y/N). Her dad was a murderer, but that doesn't mean..."- I turned to look at Spencer for a second, and he just shut up- "Sorry."
- "I don't like her, Spencer."
- "Yes, I know."
- "Her dad killed my aunt!!"
- "I know..."
- "And on top of that, that bitch is..."
I had to bite my lips and focus on the road, actually holding my breath for a few seconds, just not to open my mouth and ruin it all.
The main reason why I hated Ashley Seaver wasn't just because of what her father had done. That itself was enough to keep her away. But on top of that, she was flirting with Spencer. She wasn't even subtle about it; she was nearly all over him. I saw her! She wanted him, and he had no idea! He was blind to her attention. Unless he liked it. Did he? Shit, I hoped not.
- "She what?"- Spencer whispered, scared of my reaction.
- "She plays the pity card the whole time. Bad things happen to all of us. You don't have to make it who you are, she does, and she expects sympathy."
I grabbed my muffin and took a big bite of it. Spencer sighed and stayed quiet for a moment, giving me space to decompress, I think.
- "Did you know the origins of carrot cake are disputed by many countries?"- I looked at Spencer, and he nodded- "Many food historians believe carrot cake originated from the English recipe of carrot puddings, eaten by Europeans in the Middle Ages when sugar and sweeteners were expensive, and many people used carrots as a substitute for sugar."
- "My mom would fight all those historians and convince them she invented it. Her carrot cake is the best."
- "And I would agree, the cake she baked for your last birthday was amazing."- I nodded and heard him chuckle as I kept my eyes on the road. I wanted to focus on the memories of my last birthday and how fun it was, but something was bugging me.
- "And why did she call you to tell you what she wanted to do?"- I parked the car outside the BAU and turned to Spencer. He opened his mouth, but no word came from it. So I asked him again.
- "Honey, why did Seaver call you to announce she would take the remedial training at the BAU?"
- "It... might... had been my idea,"- he whispered and held his satchel tight against his body. I didn't know what to say. I couldn't believe it.
- "Why on earth did you do that, Spencer?!"- I shouted as I got out of the car, grabbed my purse, my clean go bag in case we had a case, and started walking towards the building.
- "It wasn't like a suggestion. She just..."
- "I can't believe it!!"
- "It doesn't have to be that bad! It's just for a few weeks..."
- "Hopefully, Hotch won't accept."
- "(Y/N), come on,"- Spencer held my hand and stopped me- "This is not like you. Yeah, you don't like her, but you are making it a big deal, and it's not."
- "I'm starting to think you are crushed on her,"- I didn't want to say those words. They just slipped.
- "What!? Why? No!! I'm not!"- the high pitch on Spencer's voice was a clear sign of how uncomfortable he was with the conversation.
- "Then why are you defending her?"
- "I am not! I'm just saying maybe you are acting a little bit... irrational about this whole thing. She hasn't done anything bad."
- "Other than jeopardizing the whole case yesterday?"
- "Right, other than that..."
I felt Spencer's hand in mine, and I swear, I couldn't stop thinking about how it felt. It kept sending shivers all over my body. His thumb rubbed small circles on my skin, probably trying to calm me down, and it worked. I followed it with my eyes for a second as I took a few deep breaths and nodded.
- "Ok, I won't make a big deal if she stays."
- "Thank you."
- "Just... don't ask me to be her friend."
- "You don't have to be her friend."
Spencer stood in front of me and smiled. I swear all I could think of was kissing him. And a part of me felt it was getting harder and harder to resist. He put on his sunglasses and kept his hand in mine for a moment until Penelope's voice took us from our little bubble.
- "Good morning, my wonder babies!! Ready to fight crime?"
I actually didn't know what I was getting into.
Hotch had taken the day off. We were around the one-year anniversary of Haley's death, and according to what Rossi explained to us, Jack wasn't feeling so good. It was said it would be just a day or two, but I had the feeling it might be a couple of weeks. Hotch would always put himself second, but he would do whatever it took to keep him safe when it came to his son.
Morgan had been asked to take a trip to Petersburg Federal Correctional Complex to do a risk assessment on a case, so Spencer, Prentiss, and I were in the bullpen. Garcia was in her office, and Rossi was in a meeting with Strauss. I'd say it was a very calm morning, catching up with all the pending paperwork we had. Spencer had just gotten me a cup of coffee when I heard Seaver's cheerful voice.
- "Hi guys!"- she walked in with a big smile and waved- "How are you?"
Spencer looked at me as we all said our hellos. I could almost read "Please, be nice" written all over his face, and for a moment, I was willing to do as told. I didn't want him to suspect why I was so annoyed by her after all.
- "I talked to Hotch"- Emily smiled at Seaver and moved a chair for her- He signed off your remedial training, and I'll be your training agent. I'll supervise your work. I already told Rossi too, so it's official.
Ashley jumped from her chair and hugged Emily. I rolled my eyes and stared at the file on my desk. I really wasn't ready to deal with her. I wasn't prepared to deal with someone trying to steal Spencer from me.
Ok, Spencer wasn't mine to keep, but we had been inseparable for four years, and I didn't want to lose that. I didn't want to lose him.
I had never been ready to deal with Spencer dating other girls. The few times girls had hit on him had been awful. Once, Morgan took him to a club when we were on a case, 'cos the unsub was picking his victims there, and he taught him how to pick up girls. The bartender ended up giving him her number 'cos my dorky best friend was charming. Derek still remembered that moment from time to time, quoting it as "The day he turned Spencer into a man."
I loved Derek, but fuck, I hated him sometimes.
- "Welcome to the team,"- Spencer waved at Seaver from his desk and turned to me, raising an eyebrow.
- "Yeah, welcome,"- I added and cut her a short smile.
- "I'm thrilled to join you guys for a few weeks. I always dreamt of being here. I'm ready for making it up after the last case."
- "Don't be so hard on yourself,"- Prentiss interrupted her and smiled friendly- "You remained calm under pressure, and the case was solved. That's all that matters."
I had to control myself not to snort after Emily's words. Instead, I kept my eyes locked on my desk like I had done before. I was so focused on it that I could have actually developed telekinesis skills and moved the freaking file with my eyes.
- "I just wanted to say thank you to all of you,"- Seaver's voice was soft, in a mix of fear, excitement, and... something else I couldn't read.
- "Especially you, Spencer. I really enjoyed our talk last night, and I have the feeling I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you. Thank you for the pizza. I owe you dinner."
- "Don't, it was nothing,"- Spencer flustered and stood up quickly, grabbing his pile of files and walking away, arguing he needed to ask Garcia something.
I did my best not to move a muscle. I didn't want Seaver to know how much I hated the fact she had shared what seemed to be a lovely evening with Spencer. One he didn't actually mention when we talked about what we had done the previous evening. Why did he decide to keep me in the dark? I couldn't understand that. Maybe he just didn't want me to know he actually had feelings for Seaver. Maybe he had asked her out, and because he knew I hated her (though he really didn't know why), he decided not to tell me what was going on.
I had been wasting all that time in love with Spencer. I knew I would never act on those feelings, and clearly, he didn't have feelings for me. So... maybe it was time to let him go.
How could I let Spencer Reid go when I never actually had him?

âbrokenâ miya atsumu.
a/n : lol i almost cried writing this so enjoy.
warnings : angst, physical violence (slap), mentions of cheating, mild swearing, me not proof reading.
ây/n, i love you and i want to spend the rest of my life by your side, so will you marry me?â you watched your boyfriend of four years get on one knee. he had told you earlier on to dress up nicely as it was a âspecialâ occasion. you assumed the only reason was the fact that the two of you were going to one of the best resturants in the city which would no doubt produce a bank breaking bill. but you were wrong, the occasion was special and you could easily name it as one of the best moments of your life.
it was hard to imagine that anything would be able to overshadow this, the feeling of bliss in your heart as he said those words to you, the sparkle in your eyes as you watched him pull at the ring which he clearly spent a fortune on, the round of applause ringing in the background from the on-lookers who were also dining. perhaps the only thing that would be better than this would be the birth of your first child, or all your children in fact.
youâd always imagined a life with miya atsumu the moment he asked you to be his girlfriend, you knew that he was more of the apartment type, specifically penthouses since his professional volleyball career allowed him a generous pay. you on the other hand had always been a house type, you longed for something big enough to nurture a family in, the two of you had been bickering about this for years since high school since the both of you were so sure that you would end up being his wife.
âyes, yes, yes oh my god of course iâll marry you.â you squealed in excitement leaping into his arms with the biggest smile you had ever flaunted in your entire life. and those were the words he wanted to hear more than anything because he too had imagined a perfect life with you.. if only he could abide by it.
you rested in his arms, only pulling away to run your fingers over the pricey ring he had bought you. and of course he knew youâd love it when you had it saved to one of your pinterest boards for years.
âcongratulations.â an array of customers proclaimed giving in to the celebratory atmosphere. truly, this was everything you could have asked for in life, you had a wonderful fiance, a beautiful place to live, you were thriving in your career and your social life was buzzing, curtesy of many of atsumuâs friends.
âdo you like it?â he asked taking your hand to admire how beautiful you looked under the lighting positioned directly under your table. in addition, the stunning dress you had picked for the night was making you anything but resistible. how badly he wanted to tear the fabric off you and pound into you until sunrise was something he was struggling to hide.
âitâs beautiful.â you were mesmerised by the sight of it and your fiancĂ©âs thoughtfulness, there was a love erupting in you that you werenât even aware it was possible to feel for another person.
âletâs go home and.. celebrate.â he smirked with a smug expression on his face leading you towards the car. you knew exactly what he was thinking and how needy he was getting but tonight especially you would allow him to indulge in his lewd thoughts.
he held the car door open for you, he noted how much you loved this model, in fact it was your favourite one. it was one of the many things he noted about you as he planned to buy all the things you liked. maybe then you would forgive him, right? he hoped so.
he tapped against the steering wheel as the two of you drove down the night streets of tokyo, you assumed it was out of impatience because you were too distracted by your own thoughts to be as observant as usual with your boyfriends emotional state.
ây/n.. i need to tell you something.â he looked out of the window avoiding making eye contact with you as his drumming got louder. you turned to face him, readying yourself for him to make one of his usual silly jokes, or maybe one of his lewd speeches that would often come out when he got particularly riled up by you.
âwhat is it?â you asked with a light chuckle, the atmosphere of just a few minutes ago still buzzing within you.
âi- thereâs no right way to say this but .. a couple months ago i slept with another woman and â i canât bear the thought of you marrying me without knowing.â his words spilled out, there was barely a space between them and to any one else it would have been completely incoherent.
âwhat are you talking about âtsumu? thatâs not funny.â you rolled your eyes with a smile leaning back into the passenger seat feeling the way the car moved on the smooth roads beneath you. there was a brief pause before atsumu decided to speak again, and between those seconds you thought absolutely nothing of his words. how you wish he would have just laughed along and stayed quiet, why? why did he have to tell you?
âiâm being serious.â he clenched his jaw causing you to whip your head in his direction, his eyes were still ahead on the road but he could feel your glare boaring into his skull. he couldnât bare to face you, no â he didnât deserve to face you.
âwhat?â your expression faltered, a new atmosphere dawned between the both of you. one that was a lot thicker â almost suffocating and heavily juxtaposed the one from the resturant. there was a million thoughts going through your mind right now, how was this possible? how did you not notice? how long had this been going on? why was he just telling you now? it was almost impossible to process it all at once with the feeling of your heart pounding out of your chest and your stomach getting ready to reject the food that you had eaten just minutes ago.
âiâm sorry i just, i got carried away that day you know? it was only a one time thing but iââ his voice was cut off by a harsh slap to his cheek. you watched as the surface of his face turned red, he didnât bother reprimanding you for getting physical, if he was being honest he expected it from you, actually he expected more. it was almost scary the way you werenât shouting and screaming at him, the way you werenât kicking and clawing away at him, it made him feel all the much worse.
you sighed to yourself, your breath was shaky as your heart was shattering in your chest and you hadnât even noticed that you were crying. maybe it was because you were too occupied realising the way your life had all come crashing down in a matter of moments. your fiancĂ© had cheated on you.. what does that mean for your relationship? would you even call him your fiancĂ© anymore? and what about your home with him? not to mention the friendships you had with an array of his friends. what did this all mean?
âwhy?â your voice was below a whisper, you could barely muster up the voice to speak, there was a sickening feeling in your chest that you were way too focused on instead of your words.
âit wasnât you.. itâs never been you, youâre perfect youâre everything iâve ever wanted, i donât know why, iâm just an idiot i was so stupid and iâve regretted it everyday since... but iâm gonna fix it i promise iâll fix it.â his voice was shaky and uneven, you could tell without looking at him that he was on the verge of tears. but that was nothing compared to what you were feeling. the fact that you had laid next to him for months without knowing that he had bedded another woman. did he touch her the way he did you? did he prefer her to you? was she prettier than you?
âhow? how are you going to fix it?â you turned to him, tears staining your mascara and eyeliner, there was no doubt know that you looked like a mess. what you didnât know is that atsumu still thought you were the prettiest girl in the world but you were too occupied being hit by the crushing realisation that the best moment of your life had just turned into the worst. love had so easily turned to hate and all your time together meant absolutely nothing to you anymore.
âwell weâre going to get married right? and youâve always liked this car right babe? iâll buy you one. and thereâs that house you always wanted, i can put a down payment on it todayââ
âno.â you buried your head into your hands at the thought of your next words. four years? what did four years of your life mean now? what did you have left? âweâre not getting married.â
âwhaâ but you already said yes, come on donât be like that, donât you remember it was just a few minutes ago, you were so happy.â he spewed out words frantically, desperate to say something, anything, that would make you stay. he was prepared to sell his soul if it meant keeping you by his side, the only woman he had ever loved, the only one he had ever imagined a future with, the only one he wanted to start a family with, you were his everything.
âthat was before you told me that you cheated on me and here you are throwing all these material things at me, a car? really miya? four years together and youâre here treating me like some gold-digging whore after breaking my heart? thatâs why you proposed to me isnât it? you think this ring will make me stay.â you were crying uncontrollably now and nothing atsumu could say to you or offer you would ever make you feel better.
âmiya? y/n please i donât know what else to do iâm trying to be honest with youââ
âpull over.â you interrupted him once again and he had no choice but to oblige. he knew that right now he was in no position to deny your wishes. but this was all temporary.. because you would come around right?
âi donât understand why you would do this to me.â you bit down on your lip hard enough to draw blood, your head was spinning and it felt like your throat was closing up. you needed to leave, because miya atsumu was now too suffocating for you to be around.
âi know, i know iâm sorry, please y/n iâm so sorry â look iâm getting the house now i still want a future with you.â he tugged on your arm begging you to look at his phone where he was already entering his account details for the place you had been fawning over.
âdonât fucking touch me.â you swatted his hand away. you didnât want him to be anywhere near you knowing how close he had been with another.
âiâll give you space if you need it, iâll give you whatever you want just please â donât leave me, please donât.â his hands were shaking now as he tried entering various different numbers into his phone, he didnât care if he had to buy the entire house now, heâd pay for the whole thing this second if it meant he could walk you down the aisle in a couple months time.
âi donât need anything from you.. i donât want this anymore, forget about that house, forget about a family together, forget about marrying me.â
âno no no y/n youâre just angry right now but please donât say things like that you donât know how it makes me feel.â he turned to face you and his heart clenched at the tears running down your face. your makeup was smudged and you had pushed yourself to the very edge of the car just to make sure you were as far away from him as possible.
âand what about how i feel huh? did you think about that when you were fucking some other girl wherever the two of you were? you have no idea how i feel, you have no idea..â you brought your hands to your face, concealing your weak figure from his eyes.
âi donât want this.â you removed the ring from your finger, the same one you had saved to your pinterest board for years, the same one you had imagined atsumu using to propose to you countless times, the same one that had featured in both the best and worst moment of your life.
ây/n please..â his words were stuck in his throat now, he was finally realising that there was nothing he could say â nothing he could do to make you stay. you wouldnât come around, you respected yourself too highly for that, he would never be able to call you his again. what did his life mean?
âi hate you miya atsumu.â you pushed the door open walking out of his car despite how much he begged you to stay. you didnât care how he chased you down the road, you didnât care what he said to you, you didnât think you would ever care again.. you didnât have it in you.
and the curse placed upon atsumu? he would never be able to find love again, because he betrayed the only person to stay by his side with unconditional love for years .. there was no one on the planet who loved him the way you did.

midnight messes
12 Days of Moreid 2021
read on ao3
Summary: Derek invites Spencer to a New Yearâs Eve Party for their second date
Word Count: 1.1k
Category: fluff
Content Warnings: one mention of alcohol
A/N: no one was participating in 12 days of moreid so i did it myself lolz. also transgender spencer because i say so
Parties werenât generally Spencerâs thing, but when Derek invited Spencer over for a New Yearâs Eve party, she couldnât resist.
The two had been on a date before, just a couple weeks before, but it was something new they were just trying out, not anything serious yet. So, Spencer figured this might be a nice way to get closer to him. She was right.
Around an hour before she had to leave the house she started to panic about what to wear so she invited Penelope over to help her.
âSpencer! Iâm here!â Penelope said as she walked into Spencerâs apartment.
âIn the bedroom!â Spencer called out.
Penelope walked into the bedroom and there were a million things scattered about the room. Necklaces strewn about the nightstand and vanity, a couple skirts and crop tops laid against the bed, and jackets were taken off their hangers and sitting on the floor. Spencer sat in the middle of the bed, struggling to pull off a sweater.
âHelp me?â Spencer whined and pulled at one of the sleeves she was trying to get off.
âOh! Yes of course.â
Penelope set down her bag and helped Spencer pull off the tight red sweater.
âThat better?â
âYes, thanks Pen,â Spencer took a deep breath, âI just donât know what to wear. I mean, I just started estrogen a couple months ago, so some of my clothes are more form fitting than others now, and I wanna wear a skirt, but I only came out to Derek a month ago, so would that be too much? Ugh itâs all so confusing!â Spencer laid against the sheets and groaned frustratingly.
âHey, itâs okay, Spence,â Penelope laid with her, âYou know, I went through the same thing when I started transitioning. To be fair though, I was 16. Thatâs besides the point though! Weâre gonna make you all pretty and confident, and if Derek doesnât care, to hell with him! Do you trust me, Spence?â
Spencer blushed, âOf course I do Penelope.â
âPerfect.â
They both got up from the bed and Penelope sat Spencer at the vanity. She did Spencerâs make up, sparkly gold eyeshadow, thick eyeliner, and a dark red lip. Spencer stared at herself in the mirror while Penelope picked out the outfit.
âWow Penny, this is really good. I wish I could look like this every day.â Spencer said as she admired her own beauty.
âI could teach you how to do it yourself if youâd like, Spencer,â Penelope gave her a stack of clothes, âNow go try this on.â
Spencer took the clothes and went to her bathroom to change. The outfit Penelope had picked out was a dark blue bralette, a black mesh crop top, and a dark blue skirt to match the bralette. Spencer loved it. She looked at herself in the mirror and almost began to cry.
âSpence? Everything okay?â Penelope said after a couple moments.
âYeah!â Spencer said, coming out of the bathroom, âIâm beautiful Pen, you made me beautiful.â
âOh my gosh, I really did, didn't I?â Penelope looked Spencer up and down admirably, âHere, wear these too.â
Penelope handed her a pair of dangly, gold star earrings and a couple of gold chain bracelets as well. Spencer put them on and smiled widely.
âWow, I look so good, thank you so much Penny.â
âAny time Spence, now come on, we donât wanna be late for the party!â
The two went out to the car and drove to Derekâs newly remodeled house. They saw a couple cars they didnât recognize, but the others were owned by the other members of the BAU.
âPenelope! Spence!â Derek said as the two walked in, âWow, you girls are looking gorgeous! Especially you, pretty girl.â
âAw, thanks Der,â Spencer said, taking Derekâs hand in hers.
âThereâs punch and food in the kitchen, you can help yourself to anything youâd like. The others are also in there socializing, if youâd like to join them,â Derek pulled Spencer to the side, âThereâs also some people Iâd like you to meet.â
âIâll leave you two then,â Penelope said before heading toward the kitchen.
Derek led Spencer to the living room, where his mom and sisters were sitting.
âMom, Sarah, Desiree, this is Spencer. I know youâve met her before, but I wanted you to meet again, under better circumstances.â
âHi,â Spencer waved shyly.
âWell, hi there Spencer, itâs good to meet you,â Derekâs mom got up from the couch and shook her hand, âI love your earrings, theyâre adorable.â
âOh thank you Mrs. Morgan!â Spencer beamed.
âPlease, you can call me Fran, Derek speaks about you so much I practically already know you.â
âMom!â
âOh come on, Derek, let me poke a little fun at your new girlfriend.â
âSheâs not my girlfriend yet, we havenât even kissed yet.â
âAnd? Sheâs still super pretty, and you obviously like her a lot if sheâs meeting us already,â Sarah said, getting up and shaking Spencerâs hand as well.
âYeah, who knows? Maybe tonight when the clock hits zero youâll get that kiss,â Desiree said, looking to Spencer.
âAlright alright, letâs go get to the party with the others now.â
They all went into the kitchen and started to socialize with the others. As it got closer and closer to 12:00 they went into the living room and watched the live video of the clock in Time Square and they separated into small groups. Penelope was talking with Emily on the couch, Rossi and Hotch were standing by the TV and drinking whiskey, JJ and Fran were talking on the other side of the couch, and Spencer stood with Derek on a balcony right outside the living room.
âSo, I guess weâre kind of alone now hm?â Spencer said.
âYeah, I guess so. You really are beautiful, Spence.â
âYouâre just saying that because Iâm wearing makeup, Derek.â
âWhat? Thatâs so not true! Youâve been beautiful since the day we met Spence. Probably even before that. You know, the day you joined the BAU I told Penelope I had never met anyone I had ever been more attracted to. And not just looks, pretty girl, that massive brain of yours is absolutely amazing, and I am so glad we met.â
âYouâre too sweet, Der,â Spencer blushed.
A sweet silence passed over them for a moment before the others inside shouted with joy.
âHappy New Year, Spence.â
âHappy New Year, Der.â
The two leaned in and kissed deeply. Spencerâs soft lips pressed against Derekâs for a long moment before pulling away, only to come back again and again, until they heard Penelope clear her throat from the glass door out to the balcony.
âYou two having a good new year I see?â She giggled, looking at the smudged lipstick on the two of their faces.
âI guess we did kinda make a midnight mess, didnât we pretty girl?â

WHAT BENNY DOESN'T KNOW | Chapter 6
A TRIPLE FRONTIER STORY
Summary: Things get heated on the mountainside then five months later Santiago knocks on your door asking for a favour.
Warnings: Language, mentions of sex.
Word Count: 3997
A/N- Hey guys thank you so much for your love on this series, after the heaviness of the last chapter this one is more story development for how we ended up at chapter 1. It's split into three parts; the boys interaction on the side of the mountain, Santiago coming to your flat to ask for a favour and you meeting with Frankie in a diner to collect on that favour for Santi. This is the second to last chapter and I am currently working on the final chapter so we can end this story and Friday on a high! In the meantime I hope you enjoy.
PART SIX | TRIPLE FRONTIER
Without you, the mission had become a shit show. Five days full of reckless testosterone clouded decisions that had lead to them trekking across the Andes, millions of dollars literally being lost over the side of a cliff, three different gunshot wounds between the group and multiple dead bodies; including Tom's. The sun had almost fully set now, just a dull hazy glow on the horizon as Santiago, Will and Frankie lay back against the bags of money, waiting for the younger Miller to return. The tension was thick between them and not just because of the multiple fuck ups or the fact they had lost a friend.
Each one of them had brought up your name at some point during this trip, wondering if things would have been different if you had been there. A strong team of six instead of five. Santiago had watched Frankie subtly flinch, every time he heard your name and although he himself wished you had been there, he could clearly see now why you had said no. He still didn't completely know what had happened between you and Frankie other than what he found out that one night in Italy; but he knew if you had been on this mission with them right now, the team would be even weaker, not stronger.
âI'm gonna say something. Are you listening?â Frankie's voice said strongly, breaking the stoic silence that had befallen the three men since Benny had left their company.
âYeah.â Santiago murmured, acknowledging the statement.
âWe gotta get back on our game.â Frankie said. âEnough of this. It stops now. You Understand?â
âCopy that.â Santiago replied.
Frankie had ended up spending more time than he thought he would thinking about you these last few days. Even with everything that had happened between the two of you, it felt odd to him doing a job like this without you. Over the years and countless missions you had all worked together, you had become a partner to him. His co-pilot, the one who always had his six. The absence of you only served to remind him of how fucked up things were between you now. He felt himself tense anytime one of the boys said your name. He spoke with a venom, anytime he was dragged into a conversation about you. That was until he lost a mule over the side of the mountain.
The rocks had given way bellow the animals feet and he had watched helplessly as it fell to its death, bags of money exploding as they hit rocks. His own mortality truly hit him then. His mind raced to images of his daughter and Laura but then they turned to you and that's where they stayed. Tom's death a day later had only reinforced those thoughts more. If he died on this godforsaken mountain before he had a chance to talk to you and sort everything out, it would be the biggest regret of his life. He needed them all to get back on their A game. He needed to get back to you.
âWhy did she say no to the job?â Will's question permeated the silence. It was a question that had been on his mind since the very beginning and one Santiago had tried to avoid and work around the whole mission. Santiago remained quiet, trying to work out the best way to respond.
âBecause of me.â Frankie's confession rang out. Will sat up then, looking at Frankie confused, silently asking him to elaborate. Santiago's gaze had also turned to Frankie, but it was a soft look, one of pride that his friend wanted to face up to his demons instead of run from them. Frankie's look back to Santiago was a desperate cry for help. Although he knew they all needed to get this out in the open so they could work better as a team, he also was struggling with how to say it.
âHe was sleeping with her.â Santiago tried to say as gently as he could. Although he knew the relationship between you and Frankie had been fucked up, he also knew you were both hopelessly in love with one another, which was what had made things between you so much more complicated.
âWait. What?â Will stuttered out in shock. âWhen?â
âAbout 11 months ago.â Frankie quietly confessed. Will gave Frankie a hard look as he realised he was telling him he had cheated on his partner with you. âLook, I know.â Frankie said in response to the stare, âIt wasn't exactly my finest moment.â
âHow long for?â Will questioned.
âA couple of months. She broke things off when she found out Laura was pregnant. That's why she took that job in Italy.â Santiago's mind raced as he remembered back to the night he spent with you in Italy, his head dropping sheepishly. He thought if he kept his head low, he'd get away with not having the Italy conversation with Frankie but he was wrong. Frankie had recognised the look on Pope's face and the fact his was currently staring away from them at the rock in front of him, just told him how guilty his friend felt.
Will had watched the exchange, analysing the looks between the two men before him. âWhat happened in Italy?â he asked, suspecting there was something about your time over seas that they were both privy to and hiding from him.
âWhy were you in Italy with her Pope?â Frankie doubled down.
âI went to her first to talk about the job.â Santiago said, only giving half the truth. Frankie fixed him with a hard look, forcing him to elaborate. He wanted to know how that fucking phone call had come about. âLook she wasn't answering my messages so I got on a plane, went over there and-â his sentence hung awkwardly in the air a moment as he tried to decide how to carry on. âLook, I thought that if I got rid of the guy she would be free to come back with me and do the job, but she got mad at me.â Frankie and Will listened intensely as Santiago continued to babble. âLook I did some things and she said some shit to get back at me. Look man I didn't know.â He looked desperately to Frankie.
âBut even after you did find out you still fucked her, right?â Frankie's voice bit back. It was more of a statement than a question.
âI'm sorry man, but you should have seen her face.â Santiago felt his cock twitch just at the memory alone. âShe freaking begged me Fish.â Santi's voice pleaded, trying to get his friend to understand. Will scoffed in disbelief over the conversation they were having. âHey.â Santiago said rounding on him, âYou would have done exactly the same thing if you were there. You're just bitter because you only got to fuck her the once.â
âHEY!â Frankie's voice cut across Pope.
âNo, you don't get to act like you're her knight in shining armour right now and defend her honour, not when you used her like you did.â Santiago snapped back at Frankie.
âI didn't use her.â Frankie attempted to defend himself.
âYou fucking snorted coke off her body, fucked her, then went back home to continue playing house with your actual girlfriend. If that's not using her-â
âI told her I fucking loved her and that I wanted to leave Laura, that I was gonna get clean for her and she fucking cut and run on me man.â There was silence as the weight of Frankie's statement hung in the air between them. When Frankie spoke again, breaking the silence, his voice was softer, curious. âDid you make her?â He didn't want to ask but he needed to know. The 60 second phone call had played continuously on a loop around his head ever since it had happened, the words haunting him.
âYes.â Santiago's voice was timid and he struggled to look at his friend. âIf it helps, she really tried to fight it man. I think she liked that it had been your thing.â
âWhat?â Will questioned, confused by the ambiguous conversation his friends were having in front of him. âWhat did you make her do?â His voice was worried, protective. Both Frankie and Santiago struggled to meet Will's eyes. âWhat did you make her do?â he asked again his voice demanding an answer.
âI'm sorry man.â Santiago said.
âHe made her squirt.â Frankie said at the same time. Will's expression was one of reserved surprise.
âWait you both?â Will asked, looking for clarity.
âYeah.â Santiago said. There was a silence again as the information set in.
Something Santiago had said was weighing on Frankie. âWhat do you mean she begged you?â Frankie asked him timidly.
âShe's been torturing herself man. She feels so guilty about everything that happened, she's just looking for a way she can live with herself.â
âWhat did you do?â Frankie asked, he was scared of the answer but wanted to know, his own form of punishment.
âTied her to the bed and edged her to within an inch of her life.â Santiago's statement was slightly rushed and guilty. Will fought to remain silent as he began to picture the scene in his head.
âDid it help? Did it make her feel better afterwards?â Frankie continued to question.
âShe's in love with you man.â Santiago said softly. âThose feelings aren't just gonna go away. She's gonna be carrying them around with her for the rest of her life. She's always gonna be stuck wondering what would have happened if things were different. Wondering if there ever would have been a way for you guys.â Santiago's statement left everyone silent once more. None of them brought it up again, but they couldn't stop thinking about it.
---------------------
It had been 5 months since you had come home from Italy. 5 months since the boys came back from their trip to South America. Will and Ben had escorted Tom's body back to the states and broken the news to Molly. They stayed with her as she broke the news to her girls and made a point of being there for them whenever they needed.
For 5 months, Will and Benny were the only company outside your family that you saw, but even then you didn't see them as often. None of you met up as a group again. You hadn't even heard from Santiago, that was until he showed up on your doorstep late one Saturday afternoon. âHey Querida, I need your help.â
You reluctantly let him in, ushering him inside your small apartment. âWhat do you want Santi?â you asked as you continued to hover near the front door.
âI've got this job-â
âNope, no way.â you quickly cut in. âAfter what happened in South America, I don't think so. Besides I thought that was supposed to be your last job. You said you were retiring.â you folded your arms across your chest defensively.
âI know, I know. But this isn't like that job.â
âAre you determined to burn every friendship you've ever had?â you spat at him, a warning to choose his next words very carefully. Will and Benny had told you everything when they got home. Both of them were shells of the men they once were, it almost pained you to be around.
Santiago collapsed onto the sofa, his head hung in his hands. âI know I fucked up.â he said slowly. âIt was a shit job. I wanted to be able to just let it go and move on but I can't. I can't let that be the last job I did. The last thing that defines my career for me.â You softened at the broken man's words.
âWhat's the job?â you tentatively asked him.
âCorrupt cop.â he said, finally lifting his head from his hands.
âWhat?â you questioned slightly shocked. You had not been expecting that but you were immediately invested and Santiago knew it.
âHe's based along the border between Columbia and Brazil. Been taking bribes and working with the cartels down there for years. With Lorea out of the way he's kind of stepped up to the plate behind the scenes, but he's nothing without his money.â
âSo it's just getting the money, then getting back out.â
âYes.â
âI'm assuming because he's a corrupt cop this is all gonna be done off the books.â
âThat's why I need the team. The whole team.â
âThey'll never go for it. Not if it's coming from you.â Santi looked at you then, his eyes pleading. You could read his mind without having him say it. âNo.â
âThey'll do it for you.â he said getting up.
âNo, I'm not lying to them.â
âPlease.â he said placing his hands on your arms. His eyes were desperate, âI need this.â You couldn't help but look at him with pity. He was far from the man who had teased you in Italy just a few months back. You could see the effects of his last failed mission clear on his face and his body. The dark circles under his eyes from nights of restless sleep. The extra patches of grey scattered amongst his dark curls. All he wanted was one last good job so he could rest in peace and think back on the glory days with fondness. He needed an excuse to make things right with his friends.
âFine.â you reluctantly agreed. âBut if they are gonna believe this is my job, you are gonna have to really let me take charge of this. You gotta give me everything you know.â
------------------
Getting Will and Benny to agree had been easy. You had brought it up over beers one Sunday afternoon. They hated corrupt cops as much as you and Santi and although they had been a little apprehensive when you told them Santiago was also going to be on the mission, they still agreed to go anyway for you. Frankie on the other hand was probably going to be a little trickier.
You asked him to meet you at a local diner on a Saturday morning. The sun was streaming through the windows onto your little booth. You couldn't tell if it was just the heat from the sun, shining through the glass making you feel like you were in a green house or just your anxiety at seeing Frankie for the first time since he had told you he loved you, but you felt like you were suffocating. You were contemplating abandoning this whole thing and bolting for the door when he finally walked in, the little bell ringing out, drawing your focus to him.
He looked good. He was wearing his favourite t-shirt, an unbuttoned shirt thrown over the top, the sleeves of which were rolled up, showing off his muscular arms. You became aware you were staring and quickly dropped your eyes to the half full cup of coffee, that now sat cold in your hands in front of you.
âHey.â he said as he approached the table. You looked up at him, your nerves clear on your face.
âHey.â your voice came out unsure. You wished you could just put on a fake smile and pretend like everything was okay, but the guilt monster that had grown attached to you since you last saw each other wouldn't let you.
He shuffled into the booth across from you as a waitress came over with a pot of coffee. You eagerly held out your own mug for a top up while Frankie flipped over the cup in front of him. âA stack of blueberry pancakes and a side of bacon?â the young girl questioned Frankie as she poured coffee into his cup.
âActually no, I already ate.â he replied shooting her a forced half smile.
âVery well.â the younger girl said. âAnything for yourself sweetie?â she turned to ask you.
âUmm, no thank you, the coffee's fine.â you said, raising the cup in your hand as you said it.
âVery well then.â the waitress said with an exaggerated smile.
âThanks Candace.â Frankie said as she walked away.
âCandace? Blueberry pancakes and bacon?â you questioned Frankie once she was out of earshot.
âYeah. I got in the habit of coming in after early NA meetings.â he told you, his fingers twisting the mug of coffee in his hands as he waited on your response.
âYou look good Frankie.â you said, finally being able to find a smile for him. His eyes met yours, they were hopeful, soft. It made you wonder what had happened to him in South America that had him come out of the trip looking far less scathed than the others. You assumed it had something to do with coming back alive for his little girl, a reminder to live the best life he could with her.
âThank you.â he said. âYou look good too.â you could tell by the way he said it that he meant it, even if you didn't feel like it. âSo what was it you wanted to talk about?â
Frankie had smiled fondly when your name had popped up on his phone asking him to meet you. After everything that had happened in South America he had been eager to contact you but he had a few things he needed to deal with first.
He had broken things off with Laura as soon as he'd gotten home. They had sat down and had a long conversation, Frankie coming clean about all of it. He expected her to be furious, to scream the house down, throw all of his stuff out onto the front lawn and tell him he couldn't see their daughter ever again; but she surprised him when she told him she had known he was in love with you all along. He moved into the spare bedroom while he looked for a place of his own and made an effort to regularly talk and work out the situation. He was so grateful when she told him he could see Lilah as often as he wanted and he ended up spending a lot of his free time at the house with her, not wanting to miss a single moment as she continued to grow.
âI know after the shit show that was Santiago's job you'll probably want to say no, but I need your help on a job. They other guys are already in, I just need my pilot, my mission partner.â you said trying to lay it on thick.
âI'm in.â
He had said it without hesitation. He'd do anything for you, even if it meant trekking across the Andes again. âWait, you don't want me to tell you what the job is?â
âIt doesn't matter. You need me, I'm all in.â he said leaning back into the booth. âBesides if you've gotten the other guys to agree...â he left the statement open as he brought his coffee cup up to his lips. A silence fell between the two of you. Now you had gotten out all you had to say, you didn't know how to proceed in conversation.
âHow old is she now?â you found yourself asking. It was more torturing yourself actually.
âJust over 7 months.â he replied. He held up a finger to you, instructing you to wait as he reached into his pocket for his wallet. He pulled out a small photo of her that was tucked into one of the slots, handing it across the table to you.
You tried to keep your fingers steady as you looked at the picture. She was beautiful and definitely Frankie's kid. âShe has your eyes.â you found yourself saying, softening at the image of the little girl who had changed everything.
You couldn't help but wonder, if things had been different, if you and Frankie had gotten together all those years ago. Would you have your own baby by now? Would they have inherited his eyes like this little girl in the picture had, or would they have gotten yours? Then you wondered, if you hadn't run away when Frankie had told you about her, would you have been able to stick around and love her? To be her second mom and raise her with Frankie and Laura.
You quickly handed the photo back, no longer able to look at it or deal with the thoughts that were now swimming around your head. âYeah, I'm just grateful she didn't get my nose.â Frankie said as he slotted the photo back into his wallet with a fond smile.
âIs she crawling yet?â you asked.
âOh that girl is such an over achiever.â he chuckled fondly. âShe was trying to stand at 3 months, even though her little legs were no where near ready for that. You'd have to fight to get her to relax them to feed.â You couldn't help but smile at the image of Frankie trying to wrestle a fussy baby to sit in his arms properly so he could feed her.
The way he looked at you changed then, like he was sad you hadn't been there, like he had really wanted you to be there with him. He had. There had been so many late nights he'd spent up with his little girl in his arms, wishing you were there. Wishing that she had been yours. He was about to open his mouth and try to tell you everything he had wanted to say since being on that mountain, but you became distracted when your phone buzzed, the screen lighting up, telling you both you had a text message from Santiago.
You reached for the phone and Frankie's chest sagged, it felt like a hole had just opened up in his chest and was suddenly being filled with all his self doubt. 'He'd waited too long. You and Santiago were probably a thing now.' were the main two thoughts that began echoing through his head. âI'm really sorry, I've got to head off.â you said, rooting around in your bag for your purse so you could pay for your coffee.
âOh okay.â Frankie said back, slightly defeated.
âUmm, I'll send you over all the information for the job.â you said quickly as you climbed out of the booth while trying to send a quick reply to Santiago to let him know you were on your way.
âYeah of course.â Frankie said also getting up, to see you off properly.
His action caught you off-guard and you almost walked into his chest as you looked up from the phone in your hand. You both froze. You softened as you looked up into his eyes, then slowly let them wander down to his lips. You really wished you could lean forward and kiss him right now. You came to your senses, clearing your throat and taking a step backwards, blushing.
âIt was great to see you Frankie.â you quickly said. âOh and thank you for saying yes to the job.â
âUh yeah, no problem.â he said, hooking his fingers into his pockets. He wanted to touch you, to hug you or something, anything, but the way you had stepped back from him, made him feel like he couldn't. You both stood there awkwardly for a moment, unsure of what to do next.
You felt your phone buzz in your hand. You looked down at it, another message from Santiago. âUmm, I've got to go.â your voice was barely above a whisper. Before you realised you had done it, you leant forward and placed a light kiss on Frankie's cheek. You felt the corner of his mouth turn upwards as he began to smile, but you couldn't bring yourself to look. You knew that if you did look, it would remind you of everything you missed out on with him. Instead you did the same thing as you did last time you were with him, you walked away and you didn't look back.

exam week
a/n: self indulgent? always. also since weâre in our mat feels over mat hat trick :) itâs gender neutral reader again. hope you enjoy it!
Pairing: Mat Barzal x reader
Work count: 1.3k+Â
warnings: some reference to alcohol and i think thatâs it? reader breakdown maybe?
disclaimer: this is a work of fiction and real person fiction if you donât like that, please donât read! also the gif isnât mine! all credit to the incredible gif-maker!
It was hell week. Well, not literally but, it was midterm week and those are pretty much the same thing. Especially when midterm week seems to lead into millions of assignments and projects before finals start. So yeah, hell week.Â
The Islanderâs west coast road trip was not helping either. Theyâd been gone for a week and a half, winning slightly more than they lost, but you hadnât been able to see Mat for a couple days before the trip because of studying and exams you had to focus on. When you had apologized that you didnât have the time, he simply shushed you and told you heâd support your degree as much as you supported his career.Â
Only now it was a few days after his trip, and you still hadnât seen him. The two of you were in a fairly new relationship, and you hadnât hit the stage of sleeping over yet. You just simply didnât have the time; it wasnât your fault that your school decided to throw assignment on top of assignment on you.Â
A knock on your door broke your gaze on a reading you were trying to do for your History class. You stood up from the coffee table where your computer was and adjusted your glasses and sweatpants before swinging the door open⊠to see your boyfriend.Â
âMat,â you breathed, suddenly aware of your appearance. Was that a mustard stain on your shirt? When was the last time you washed your hair?Â
He smiled, and held up a bottle of wine and a paper bag. âHi.â He pressed a kiss to your cheek before entering your apartment, kicking off his shoes and walking towards the kitchen.Â
âListen, babe, as much as I want to spend time with you, this isnât exactly a good timeâŠâ you trailed off, following him.Â
âOh, have you eaten already? Thatâs fine, we can still split the wine though,âÂ
âNo, itâs just⊠I-I have a lot of studying to do.â He looked across the island to see you across the room, opening your laptop.Â
âI thought all your exams were done? You just had a week of midterms,âÂ
âYeah, but I still have work to do. Profs donât care I just had midterms,â He scoffed.Â
âWell, canât you take a break? We havenât got to see each other in, like, two weeks,â You rubbed your eyes, sighing. âCâmon take a breakâŠâ He coaxed, coming to sit on the couch behind you and wrapping his arms around your neck before placing a soft kiss to the top of your head. You shrugged him off and got back to focusing on the reading.Â
âI canât take a break, I still have to studying for my final next week,â
âListen, a couple hours wonât hurtâŠâ
âBut it will!â You turn around from the screen to look at him. âI have so many assignments and I have to take notes and watch hour long lectures only to have to pause it all the time to take the notes! Thatâs not to mention additional readings and group projects and studying! I canât stop. I have too much work to do,â Â
âIâm not saying you donât have a lot of work, but I know that you can afford to take a couple hours off to relax,âÂ
âHow would you know that Mathew?â He gulped, Mathew was not a pet name from you, it was an angry name. âYou donât! When was the last time you did anything like this? Years ago! Sorry that I have to work hard to get the grades I do to keep up my GPA so I can get a job I love! Sorry I donât have time to sit and take a night off when all my work is sitting right there screaming at me to get it done!â
âY/nâŠâ
âIâm just so tired.â You sobbed, turning and collapsing into his arms. His warm hands ran up and down your back, trying to soothe you. âThey just donât understand how much work theyâre giving me and how much Iâm struggling to get it all done without failing. They say they know and they send a check-up email thatâs like three lines of weâre in this together but then they donât do anything. Itâs just too much and Iâm so tired and I just canât seem to catch a break. I donât seem to have enough hours in the day to get everything done. And on top of all that, I have to worry about finding an internship so I can get a job once my degree is done. And! I havenât seen you in so long because I just have so much work. And I missed you.â You hiccupped with sobs and he squeezed you a little tighter.
âShhh, sweetheart, shhh. I missed you too, but itâs going to be okay,â He kissed your hairline and just held you tighter. You shook your head negatively in the embrace. âYes, it will.â He promised.
âHow do you know that?â He scrunched his face and readjusted the two of you so he could see your face, even if your eyes didnât meet his.
âBecause I know you. If there is anyone who can do this, itâs you. I get that itâs hard, believe me I do. You probably spend more time in front of your laptop than I do at the rink, obviously itâs a lot. But you are too smart and too determined for everything not to be okay. And even if it isnât, youâll still have me.Â
âI just worry about burnout. And mono. Youâre working yourself to the bone, and it hurts to see. Youâre going to be amazing, babe, you always are. But you have to take care of yourself. Youâre not doing anyone any favours with sleep-deprivation and not drinking enough water and not taking mental breaks. I want you to be okay, thatâs all, okay? Iâm not trying to doubt you, Iâm just trying to help you.â He started to let you go, but you grasped at him harder, silently begging him to stay where he was.
âIâm sorry⊠I just donât want to let anyone down,â You whimpered into his chest. He brought you out of the embrace, your eyes meeting his blues.Â
âListen to me. You are not letting anyone down by taking time for yourself, youâre not, okay? The people who care about you, including me, care so much more about you than your grades. You could never let me down, eh? Iâm always going to be proud of you.â You nodded your head, and tucked it under his chin, slowly relaxing into his embrace. He pressed another soft kiss to the top of your head.
âLet's take a break, yeah?â You nodded against his chest.Â
Fifteen minutes later, the two of you were sharing that bottle of wine in a bubble bath. Your laptop was open, streaming a random episode of The Office. You took a small sip of the wine, before turning slightly to face Mat behind you.
âThank you, Mat, really. I didnât realize how much I needed this. You always know the perfect way to make me feel better.â He brushed a piece of hair out of your face, before cupping your face with one soapy hand and pressing his lips to yours. It only lasted a few moments but it was purposeful and you could feel the love the two of you had for each other.Â
âIâm here for you, whatever you need, you know that.â His eyes met yours, and all you could feel was complete admiration.Â
âYeah, I do,â You felt your face flush a little and you kissed his jaw before turning back to the show, and burrowing yourself back into your boyfriend. âHowâd I get so lucky?â
You could hear Matâs smile when he said, âI think Iâm the lucky one.â
let me know what you think! thanks for reading!

the in-between
pairing: akaashi x reader x bokuto
genre: friends to lovers, love triangle
contains: angst, fluff
word count: 3.3k
summary:Â What is the difference between the process of falling in love versus actually being in love?
note: this is longer than the others but itâs definitely my favorite part of all four :â) thank you for your patience! I had a lot of fun writing this and ngl I gave myself some butterflies.. Kjgfhbk ANYWAY! the flashback is a week before kurooâs birthday party! after the flashback, the story resumes to akaashi and bokuto outside of kurooâs apartment where the last chapter left off. I highly recommend listening to the songs mentioned while reading because itâll really help you visualize the tone and mood of the story <3 enjoy!
 part 1, part 2, part 3
songs: canât help falling in love (cover) - kina grannis crazy for you - madonna
flashback - a week ago
Kina Grannisâs cover of Canât Help Falling In Love played from Bokutoâs speakers as your eyes were glued to the screen. Youâve watched the wedding scene in the movie Crazy Rich Asians a million times, but it never failed to put stars in your eyes. Nick and Rachel gazed at each other, despite an entire wedding unfolding in front of them as if they were falling in love for the first time all over again. You were in awe of how the film captured the feeling of falling in love so flawlessly, without a single word being spoken.
Your eyes watered as Bokuto silently chuckled to himself. You came over for a movie night, but it seemed that Bokuto was watching you watch the movie instead. Akaashi was out of town to see family for a couple of days, so it was just the two of you for the night.
Bokuto found his own eyes watering as well, but not because of the movie. You looked over at him from the other end of the couch and he quickly turned back to the TV.
âWait are you also crying?â You sniffled. Bokuto threw a pillow at you and scoffed, â..No.â
âWhat?! Iâm just asking! Iâm not judging,â your giggle turned into a sigh. âItâs magical.â
He smiled at the small pout on your face.
âYeah,â he agreed. Magical.
Eventually, the end credits rolled and you both scrolled on your phones for a bit, your head laying on one arm of the couch and his head on the other.
âHave you ever been in love?â You lay your phone on your chest and stared at the ceiling.
âHm.. I actually donât know,â Bokuto scrunched his eyebrows slightly, âI think Iâve been close to it though.â He peeked over his phone at you. The television screen was now black, the moonlight being the only source of light in the room. You seemed to be deep in thought, hair disheveled from laying down for two hours, and lips slightly swollen from crying because of the movie. Beautiful was an understatement. Bokuto put his phone down to fully look at you, pure adoration and a hint of sadness in his eyes.
âDo you think thereâs a difference between falling in love and being in love?â You asked.
âI guess falling in love is when you believe you could eventually be in love with someone.â
âThatâs a pretty way to put it,â you hummed in agreement.
âI wonder how long that âin-betweenâ time is, then,â you added, âlike, if you think of it as a spectrum--beginning to fall in love on one side and then actually being in love on the opposite end. Thereâs that âin-betweenâ kind of grey area.â Bokuto watched in amusement as you talked with your hands.
Little did you know that that was where Bokuto currently was--the in-between of falling in love and being in love. With you. Bokuto smiled sadly upon realizing this. He was struggling not to cross that grey area, knowing it would only hurt him if he did. He couldnât reach that far end of the spectrum, as it was currently reserved for his best friend.
At this point, Bokuto was well aware of his closest friendsâ budding feelings for one another. It was in the way Akaashi looked at you when you werenât paying attention. It was in your doe eyes every time you used Akaashiâs first name.
Bokuto had refused to confront his best friend for weeks now, convincing himself that if he ignored it long enough, it would go away and his premonitions wouldnât be true. He also wasnât ready to let go of his feelings for you, wanting to relish in them, without reserve, just a little longer. He was being selfish, not wanting something that felt so beautiful and pure to end just yet--even if it was unrequited.
However, despite everything, he found comfort in his feelings for you whether you reciprocated them or not. The feelings he had for you were so special, and most importantly, they were his alone. No one could take them away from him--not you, not Akaashi.
Until he met you, he had never known what it was like to feel so strongly for anyone. He had never experienced caring for someone so unconditionally and so purely. It felt like magic.
Magic. That was the only word that did you justice.
Bokuto was never going to forget these feelings and this was both a blessing and a curse.
âBo?â you pulled him out of his thoughts.
âHm?â
âI think Iâm in that in-between right now.â
You didnât elaborate, but you didnât have to. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. This was it. At the end of this conversation, it was time for him to let you go.
Thank you, he thought. Thank you for the magic.
âI think he might be too.â
end flashback
----------------------------------------
âI know.â
Akasshi opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. How long has Bokuto known? Was it that obvious? Has Bokuto been silently resenting him all this time? If Bokuto knew, did you know too?
The two of them were now sitting on the steps of the buildingâs stairway with murmurs of the party on the other side of the door filling the silence. Bokutoâs head hung low as he contemplated what to say next.
âIâm sorry. I.. I wonât do anything about it if you donât want me to,â Akaashi broke the silence.
Bokuto only shook his head at this, not saying a word. For the first time, Akaashi couldnât read his best friendâs expression. Why did he look so defeated?
âIâd be a pretty shitty friend if I got in your way,â Bokuto finally spoke up.
âWhat? No, you knew her first. You have every righ--â
âI know I do,â Bokuto slightly smirked and nudged his best friend, âbut she doesnât look at me the way she looks at you.â Bokuto wasnât angry. He almost seemed relieved, but Akaashi couldnât pinpoint why.
Akaashiâs lips parted but was rendered speechless again. Was that true? He wanted to hope it was, but the guilt was eating him alive at this point. Truly nothing could have prepared him for this conversation.
âIâm not gonna lie, dude,â Bokuto let out a shaky sigh, âI want to be mad at you.â
Akaashi sighed and apologized again. He didnât know what else to say.
âBut that wouldnât be fair. You canât help how you feel and neither can she,â he shrugged.
âBut I donât even know if she likes me.â
Bokuto scoffed at this.
âAkaashi, I know I can be dense and a bit of an airhead sometimes, but even I can see it.â He snorted at his best friendâs obliviousness.
âYou know, she asked me if you were single after you first met,â he quietly added with hesitancy in his voice.
âShe did?â
âYeah. At the time.. I convinced myself that I didnât have to tell you because I assumed you didnât care, but I was just being selfish,â Bokuto admitted.
âI donât blame you. Thatâs fair,â Akaashi shrugged. The air around them seemed to feel less suffocating.
âI know you donât want to hear it, but Iâm really sorry. I mean it,â Akaashi added.
âDonât be. You would have done the same for me,â Bokuto said sincerely. Akaashi didnât have to say anything more, they both knew this was true.
Both of their phones chimed at once, receiving texts from you.
Y/N: where did you both go? I need a partner for pong :p
Y/N: wait who is even DD tonight
âSpeak of the devil,â Bokuto joked. Akaashi stared at the screen a second longer.
â..Are you sure?â Akaashi asked for confirmation once more.
âYeah man, Iâll get over it,â Bokuto forced a smile, âNow go find her before I change my mind.â He playfully punched his friendâs arm, though there was an edge to his voice.
âMy only request is that you donât do anything in front of me,â Bokuto added, scratching the back of his neck and avoiding eye contact.
âOf course not, Iâm not a dick,â Akaashi scoffed, a bit offended at the request. Bokuto snorted at this.
âDebatable.â
The rest of the night was enjoyable, though Akaashi ended up not making a move, not wanting to take advantage of you while intoxicated. However, heâd be lying if he said he didnât secretly enjoy how extra touchy you were, especially when you would discreetly yet casually reach for his hand every ten minutes.
But there was a specific moment of that night the two of you would ingrain into your minds.
A random girl stood at the front of the room, microphone in hand, as the opening lyrics to Madonnaâs Crazy For You ran across the screen. This was your favorite karaoke song as a child, Akaashi knew this. He watched you from across the room and chuckled at the way your eyes widened and your tired figure suddenly sat up on the couch as you recognized the song. You caught his stare and rolled your eyes at his teasing, a slight blush on your face forming as you realized he was watching you.
I love this song, you mouthed. He smiled.
I know, he mouthed back. You smiled.
As the 80's hit played, you and a handful of other people sang along. Akaashi watched in amusement as you soulfully sang the lyrics with the girl next to you. Every now and then you would lock eyes with him and playfully point, singing the words as if they were directed at him.
I see you through the smokey air
Canât you feel the weight of my stare?
Youâre so close but still a world away
What Iâm dying to say,
Akaashi was thankful for the dim lighting masking the blush growing on his cheeks. He shook his head with a smirk as you pointed at him, ignoring the growing ache in his heart. You have no idea what you do to me, he thought.
Is that Iâm crazy for you
Touch me once and youâll know itâs true
I never wanted anyone like this
Itâs all brand new
He watched as you swayed your body to the music, singing with your eyes squeezed shut. At one point you put a hand over your mouth in embarrassment as you jumbled the lyrics. He shook his head again, laughing to himself. You laughed with him as your gaze softened before you sang the next line.
Eye to eye, we need no words at all
Akaashi smiled back at you, wondering how someone who had been drinking all night managed to look so lovely.
Soon we two are standing still in time
If you read my mind, youâll see
Iâm crazy for you
The two of you seemed to be in your own little world, despite being on opposite sides of the room. Your face was starting to hurt from smiling, drunk on both alcohol and emotion. Anyone paying attention would have seen the hearts in both of your eyes.
Everything seemed to fade away from your periphery and all you saw was him. His gaze refused to leave yours as he was convinced that if he looked away for a split second, he would somehow lose you. In a room full of jumbled voices, the silent adoration you shared was deafening.
You felt like you were floating while simultaneously feeling the adrenaline of going downhill on a rollercoaster. Your heart felt like it was going to burst at any given moment, but you have also never felt so at peace. You struggled to comprehend the duality of the serenity and chaos coursing through your veins--and then it hit you.
This was the grey area. This was the in-between.
You were falling in love with Akaashi Keiji.
----------------------------------------
A week had passed since the party and Akaashi still had yet to confess--the adrenaline from that night slowly vanished, replaced with an irrational anxiety of running out of time.
Ever since he got home that night, Akaashi had been wracking his brain trying to figure out how to properly confess. Being the over thinker he is, he went through every scenario possible in his head, rewording his sentences over and over. The longer he waited, the more discouraged he became.
Strangely enough, the one who brought him back down to earth whenever he would get too in his head about his feelings was the source of his restlessness itself--you. Somehow you were both his chaos and his calm.
As the days passed, you noticed that he had become distracted more often than usual.
You two had been studying in the library for hours when you noticed that Akaashiâs mind seemed elsewhere. By now, you had memorized his tells like your favorite book. His knee bobbed up and down under the table, his hair was disheveled from repeatedly running his hands through it, and his eyes glazed over the textbook in front of him, not having turned a single page in the past twenty minutes. You knew he hadnât gotten anything done since you sat down.
You closed your laptop and waited for him to match your gaze. It wasnât until you rested your hand on his bobbing knee that he looked up at you and became aware of the amount of tension in his body. You gave him a small but sincere smile, wordlessly asking if he was okay. You rubbed his knee and he immediately relaxed at your touch, relief rushing through him.
Your timing was always perfect--constantly pulling him out of his overwhelming thoughts as if you could read his mind.
âLetâs take a break,â you whispered. He placed his hand on top of yours and gave it a squeeze, nodding.
It was funny--the concept of you distracting him from his thoughts about you.
The two of you ended up at the mall, people watching from a bench. This had become a favorite pastime for the both of you--picking out random passersby and creating extensive backstories about their lives. It was a way to destress and put your own lives on hold for a bit.
You spotted a couple sitting on a bench far enough away for you to talk about them.
âThose two are secretly pining for each other,â you nodded your head in their direction.
âHm. Are they in love?â
âOh no, not yet at least,â you speculated.
âAnd how do you know?â Akaashi mused.
âTheyâre sitting too far away from each other,â you stated matter-of-factly. Akaashi silently noted the distance between the two of you and compared.
âHuh. Okay,â He scooted closer, not being discreet at all. You held back a smile and refused to meet his gaze.
âHow else can you tell?â He watched you intently, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
âHeâs giving her too much eye contact. Heâs not nervous enough.â Akaashi scrunched his eyebrows in thought. Noted, he thought. Just as you looked up at him, he swiftly turned his head the opposite way with a small smirk on his face.
Doing your best to ignore him, you asked a question this time.
âWho do you think will make the first move?â
âOh, definitely the guy,â Akaashi stated confidently.
âOh?â
âItâs in his body language. His body is fully facing her,â Akaashi mimicked his position, now fully facing you with his right arm resting on the top of the bench behind you. You leaned back with your arms crossed, still facing forward to avoid looking at him. You felt his arm fall from the bench to your shoulders, his hand now tracing circles into your shoulder. Â
âAnd what does that mean?â you rolled your eyes, still refusing to face him. Your heart warmed as he mindlessly took one of your hands and started playing with your fingers.
âIt means..â Akaashi took a deep breath as if he had prepared a full-blown explanation. You raised your eyebrows waiting for him to finish, eyes still on the couple. When he took too long to continue, you turned to face him and silently gasped upon realizing how close his face was to yours.
You felt yourself stop breathing as he hesitated before speaking. He kept his voice low as if he was sharing top-secret information.
âHe really wants to kiss her.â It wasnât until now that you realized the proximity of your faces in this position. His eyes bore into yours, flickering to your lips as if to ask for permission.
âDo you think sheâd kiss him back?â you held your breath, your gaze also lowering to his lips.
âI donât know, you tell me,â he whispered, his lips just barely grazing yours.
You closed your eyes as you slightly tilted your head up, your lips lightly pressing against his, lingering a bit before pulling away. It was short and sweet. You looked down shyly, biting back a smile.
Akaashi watched you, his eyes low. He didnât wait all this time for short and sweet. His left hand lifted your chin up as he attached his lips to yours again, kissing you with more passion this time. You held onto his wrist and kissed him back, matching his fervor.
âKeiji..â you barely managed to let out, as he wouldnât stop kissing you (not that you were complaining).
If he initially thought your first name in his mouth was sweet.. The taste of his first name coming from your lips while they were melting into his? Jesus. His brain was short-circuiting.
You groaned upon realizing you were in a public space, but you couldnât find the willpower to pull away either. All of Akaashiâs inhibitions were out the window. The only thing that mattered right now was you, as you wiped away every lingering trace of doubt, fear, and worry from his mind with every kiss.
âKeiji!â You laughed, attempting to pull away only for him to grab your chin and pull you back in.
One more, he thought.
âWeâre the,â one more, âstereotypical,â another, âcouple,â another one, âmaking out in the,â another, âmiddle,â one more, âof a,â last one, âmall,â for now. You giggled in between kisses. Akaashi chuckled and got a hold of himself, finally pulling away and resting his forehead on yours.
âSorry,â he smiled shyly. âI knew I wouldnât be able to stop.â
You closed your eyes and blushed furiously at this. He pulled back further to get a better look at you with an eyebrow cocked.
âCouple, huh?â You already began shaking your head. âWow at least ask me on a date first, you canât skip important steps like that, F/N.â
âYou kissed me first!â you laughed as you pushed him away.
âDid I, though?â
It took you a second to realize he was right. You were the one to lean into the first kiss. Ugh.
âOh my god Iâm leaving,â you walked off as you fought the smile on your face, not being able to handle his teasing any longer. He threw his head back laughing and quickly caught up to you. He tugged your hand and pulled you into him as his arm hooked around your shoulders again. You peeked up to catch him grinning ear to ear. He looked down at you, and pressed a kiss on your forehead. Not saying another word, you leaned into his hold and sighed.
You thought about all of the wordless moments the two of you shared. Akaashi Keiji wasnât a very talkative person, but he didnât have to be. All it took was one look, without a single word spoken, and you knew.
This was what falling in love felt like.

Skinny Love
Pairing: Sky x reader
Request: Maybe you could write a Sky one where reader is a badass faerie and Sky likes her but thinks he doesnât stand a chance so the others set them up. Anonymous And Could you write a Sky x Reader story where Riven is basically telling Sky to cut the crap and ask the Reader out, which the Reader hears part of, or basically just Riven playing match maker. Anonymous And Could you write a Sky x Reader thing, where the fairies and Riven keep on trying to find ways to get them together, but theyâre already dating in secret.Â
Tagging: @grey-girlâ @bitchwhythoâ
âThat was awesome!â Sky says giving you a high five. Youâve just finished training and kicked the ass of some specialist who thought he was better than you. If thereâs one thing that can piss you of itâs when guys think theyâre instantly better than you because youâre a girl.
âThank you,â you reply wiping your forehead. The specialist humps the opposite way of you and you almost feel guilty but if he hadnât been mouthing like that then you wouldnât have needed to put him in his place.Â
âHow about lunch for the winner?â Sky asks knowing itâs an offer you canât refuse.Â
âOnly if it includes you.â His cheeks turn crimson which in turn warms your heart. You are ridiculously in love with this man and he has no clue. After lunch you suggest going for a run just to get some time away from prying eyes. Lately, the girls and Riven have all been putting pressure on your friendship with Sky thinking that the two of you should date. While you understand where theyâre coming from and you love them for being so invested in your happiness, itâs also gotten way too far. This morning you overheard Riven telling Sky to man up and ask you out. His exact words were: âIf you donât cut the crap and ask her out, Iâll ask her out for you.â Apparently, Riven is a firm believer in tough love. The thing that made you want to talk to Sky though was when Riven mentioned something about Sky not feeling good enough to be with you. If anything you were the one who had no chance with him! Your heart ached for the boy who didnât feel good enough. Â
âYouâre getting better,â Sky says struggling a little to keep up with you. Even though youâre a fairy and can rely on your magic, youâve always felt it important to focus on the physical health too. In a dangerous situation your powers wonât do you much good, if you canât run.Â
âCanât expect the specialists to save me every time. I saw what you guys can do first hand today.â Itâs a light joke but Sky canât stop laughing. He stops running clutching his side.
âYouâre such an asshole,â he laughs and itâs one of those things where it wasnât really that funny and you both know it yet you canât help but laugh anyway. Itâs that kind of funny. It takes a solid five minutes before you calm down and by then youâre completely out of breath.Â
âI need to sit down,â you state locating a big rock not too far away. Sky follows you and you canât help but think that there wonât be a better time than now.Â
âI actually wanted to talk to you about something,â you start not really sure how to carry on. Do you tell him you eavesdropped on his conversation with Riven? Or do you just come clean without bringing the others into it?Â
âI wanted to talk to you too,â Sky admits making you suspicious of the timing. Heâs just spoken to Riven this morning. Did he take Rivenâs advice or is he here to reject you so that all of you can move on?Â
âYou first,â you say curios as to what he has to say. Your palms are sweaty as you wait for him to speak.Â
âRiven gave me sort of an ultimatum today and Iâm pretty sure heâll follow through if I donât do it myself so I want to ask you if you would want to go on a date with me?â He looks down at the ground but you both feel it. Youâre about to cross a line from friendship to something more and once itâs crossed thereâs no going back.Â
âYes,â you breathe feeling the relief hit you like a wave.Â
âReally?â he asks and you nod. A million times yes. Over the next couple of weeks, you and Sky have moments whenever you have time to spare but you manage to keep it a secret from the others. You decided to keep it to yourself until you were absolutely sure you had something real. But then it just got fun to tease the others.
âI am telling you, Sky totally has a thing for you!â Bloom says. You know Riven is giving the same speech to Sky right now.Â
âWeâre friends. Heâs a great guy but he does not like me. And thatâs the end of it,â you dismiss her outburst.Â
âFine! At least come with me to get some dinner. I promise I wonât mention it again.â What youâre not expecting is the vines grabbing hold of you and dragging you into an empty classroom. You scream loudly only to have the vines cover your mouth too.Â
âTerra!â you try to yell against the vines spotting her and the rest of the girls out in the hall.Â
âYou wonât listen to us so apparently weâll have to be more persuasive,â Musa chimes in. Seconds later, vines drag Sky into the room too. It isnât until the door has been shut and locked that the vines let you go.Â
âTheyâre mental,â Sky exclaims trying to kick the door down but it doesnât budge. You have a feeling you wonât be getting out until you agree to their terms.Â
âWe should probably tell them that weâre already a thing. I donât want to know what comes next if we pretend this didnât work.â It feels ridiculous to be locked in a room with your secret boyfriend and all of your friends waiting on the other side of the door hoping youâll get together.Â
âYouâre probably right. It has been fun though. Sneaking around, being all secretive about it,â Sky smirks placing his hands on your hips to lift you up on a table. He places himself between your parted legs and you canât help but blush a little. This area has never been your area of expertise so you still got a little tongue twisted when he did these kinds of things.Â
âHey,â he whispers with his lips inches from yours.Â
âHi,â you say before closing the gap between to two of you. The kiss creates a fire in your belly that spreads all-through your body as if you were soaking up the rays of the sun on a summer day. When you gasp, he takes the opportunity to slip in his tongue and deepen the kiss.Â
âAre you still alive in there?â Riven calls through the door ruining the moment. You pull back with a smile noticing heâs slightly breathless. A feeling of accomplishment fills you as you see the effect you have on him.Â
âBetter go out and face them,â you say taking his hand in yours.Â
âWeâre ready!â you yell and hear the door unlock. They open it with excited faces and the girls even squeal when they see you holding hands.Â
âWe have a confession to make,â you say hushing them with a laugh, âweâve been dating for a little while now.â
âWhat?â Musa is the first to break the silence.Â
âWeâve been-â Sky starts but is cut off by Riven.
âSo all the talks weâve had and you were already with her? Not cool, mate.â It takes a second before Riven laughs making it clear that it was only a joke.Â
âI canât believe I went through all the trouble of planning this when you were already together,â Terra says sounding completely miserable.Â
âHoney, it was a good plan. It totally would have worked if we werenât already a thing,â you say giving her shoulder a little squeeze. Her face lights up at this making everyone laugh.Â
âWe should celebrate!â Bloom utters adding, âwe have cake waiting in the room.â You have a party that night celebrating that you and Sky finally confessed even if it happened weeks ago. You truly love this little family of yours.Â

Boring Bar - Modern Levi x Female Reader
âWhy are we here again?â The raven-haired man asked his friend. âYou need to get out more Levi, So this is me dragging you outâ Erwin smiled back. Levi just scoffed at him and looked around the bar.
Filthy.
âHange and some others are coming soonâ.
Huh!? âShitty glasses and her shitty friends are also coming?â Erwin chuckled and nodded. Leviâs mood became even more shittier. If that was possible. They both drank in silenced for a while. Both ordering the same glass of whisky, Erwin on the rocks, Levi with a twist. The music was typical bar music, boring. Some people were dancing over at the dancefloor. Half the booths were filled, but Erwin and Levi were the only two sitting at the bar. âSo, how have you been?â Erwin asked. He knew the answer. Not good. Levi and Petra had broken up a month ago, and he was still hung up on it. The breakup was really messy. Levi had caught her cheating on him with her co-worker. The biggest clichĂ© in the world. âYou knowâ, Erwin expected something more, but that was the only thing he got from Levi. âOkay, talking about it clearly isnât something you want, but do you know what you need?â Levi raised his eyebrows at the blond. âA rebound!â
âA rebound?â Levi repeated. âYou need a quick one night stand to get over her and move on, it will clear up your head. I promiseâ Levi looked at the man with a questionable look, but didnât push further. They both fell into a silence, Levi still processing his words - was a rebound all he needed?
The glorious silence between the long-time friends was cut short when the bell at the door rang. âLeviiii! Erwinnnn!â Hangeâs voice boomed over the bar. Her and Mike and Nanaba walked over to them and hugged Erwin, (Hange tried to give Levi a hug, but ended up with a elbow in the ribs).
A comfortable conversation fell between the four adults. Even though Levi gave them a hard time for dragging him out, he loved just sitting on the side-line and listening to the conversations. It was comforting. âOh! I forgot to tell you guysâ Hange exclaimed. âWhatâs up four eyesâ.
âAn old friend of mine is coming over and staying with me the next week! Sheâs going to meet us here, you guys fine with her hanging out with us?â.
âOf course! Where do you know her from?â Nanaba asked.
âWe were dorm roommates back in my collage days!â. Hange smiled. âShe is really nice, so you better treat her nice!â She threatened, even though she wasnât that threatening.
The bell over the door rang again. âSheâs here!â Hange waved over a (your height) woman. Hange hugged her and lifted the poor girl up from the ground, her legs kicking in the air. âSo good to see you again!â Hange squealed and danced around, still holding the girl up. âHange, let the poor girl downâ Nanaba looked a bit concerned by her mad scientist friends action. Hange, reluctant, let the girl down and introduced her to her friends.
âThis is (Y/N) (L/N)! My long-time friend form collage!â The group greeted her and Erwin moved over a bar stool she could sit on, moved it next to Levi. He sent the raven man a smug look. Damn eyebrow freak.
âSo, (Y/N), what did you study?â They asked her many questions about her life. They learned that she studied History, (was still studying, but balancing school with working in a flower shop with her brother), she had two cats and her favourite book was Pride and Prejudice. Hange was clearly proud of her friend and showed her of to no extent. Levi noticed the girl, (Y/N) was looking very nervous and would often blush and wiggle in her seat when Hange went on about her life.
Cute.
What was he thinking? He couldnât develop a thing for Hangeâs friend, she was clearly very protective of her and would no doubt rip his dick of if he tried to get with (Y/N). âSo, (Y/N), got a boyfriendâ This time it was Nanaba that asked. This made Levi perk up, for some reason the idea that she had a boyfriend made his chest tighten.
What was wrong with him? He felt more jealous at the possibility that a woman he had just met had a boyfriend, than when he caught his girlfriend of 9 months in bed with another man.
âNo, its just me and my cats at the momentâ She rubbed the back of her neck. Levi realised a breath of relief, no one noticed. Well, no one except Erwin, who grinned into his drink.
The conversation drifted away from (Y/N) life to more mundane things. Work, family and what not. To be honest, Levi was only paying attention if (Y/N) was speaking. But sadly, the evening turned into the night. And everyone was suddenly reminded that they had work tomorrow.
âIt was great meeting you all! Hope we can meet another time!â (Y/N) smiled at them. âOf course! Maybe for lunch?â Nanaba questioned. They agreed to meet for lunch one day, and split up. But luckily for Levi, he and Hange lived on the same street. So the three of them walked together to the building the two ladies lived at. Hange wouldnât stop talking about her latest experiments.
Levi tried a few times to ask (Y/N) some questions, but they either came out as insults or as interrupted by Hange. Usually he was smooth with woman, never having to struggle cause most flocked towards him. But when he had to impress her, he became suddenly shy and nervous.
Snap out of it Ackerman! But before he could snap out of it, the stood outside Hanges apartment. âLooks like were parting ways here Clean freak! See ya tomorrow!â And with that they disappeared behind the entrenced to the building. Levi stood on the street for a couple of minutes, thinking over the night. He cursed at himself for not growing a pair and asking her out. He went to bed angry with himself.
âŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠ
The next week past with everyday just the same like the last. Levi would meet you and Hange at 8 am and walk to your respective jobs. Everyone would meet for lunch (sometimes Erwin, Nanaba and Mike couldnât make it, but Levi would always make it). And everyday, Levi became more and more enchanted with (Y/N).
âI donât know what to do!â Levi groaned and threw his head back against the coach back. He and Erwin and Mike was chilling at Leviâs apartment. âSounds like love to meâ Erwin replied with his cheeky grinned. Oh, how Levi wanted to smack the grin of off his face.
âHow? I have only known her for one week!â
âLove at first sightâ Mike spoke up. âThat doesnât exist assholeâ Levi grumbled out, chugging back his drink. âI donât know man, Mike might be on to somethingâ.
âFuckersâ
âŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠ.
Levi was driving home when he saw it. âMushrooms and Flowersâ, the flower shop (Y/N) worked at. His body reacted before his mind could stop it. And before he knew it his car was parked in front of it and he was halfway between his car and the shop.
A bell rang when he entered the small shop. It was cozy, fairy lights hanging from the celling and the walls were covered in flowers, and by the counter there was a mushrooms display. âLevi!â A familiar voice called from him. âSo good to see youâ She walked over to him. âHow can I help you?â
He was silent. The cold, stoic, gives zero shits Levi Ackerman, was fucking silent.
The hells wrong with you?! Speak!
âI need some flowersâ Yeah, idiot why else would you be here?! âYou came to the right place! What is the occasion?â
Oh god? Was he going to get flowers for a girlfriend? Of course, he had a girl, a man that gorgeous always have an equally beautiful woman by his side. You cannot compete!
(Y/N) was equally nervous as Levi. The same pang of jealousy raced through her at the thought of him with another woman. âA girlâ was all Levi muttered out. Sadness filled (Y/N), but she bit her tears back. Not wanting him to know about her feelings for him. The same feelings that had kept her up at night and made her heart race in a way it never had.
âWell, we have some beautiful roses in many colours! Whatâs her favouriteâ (Y/N) tried not to sound disgusted by the mentioned of another woman.
Levi thought back to when (Y/N) mentioned what her favourite colour was. âOrangeâ.
Good taste, (Y/N) thought. âWell, these are my favourite. They have a nice deep orange colour and gets pretty red at the tips of the flower leavesâ. (Y/N) pointed at the flower in the roseâs aisle. Levi agreed that it was beautiful and didnât hesitate to say: âIâll take itâ.
His apartment smelled of roses. On his kitchen island, four rose bouquets of the orange flowers sat. He had gotten all they had in the store. He was opening a new bottle of whiskey. Not knowing what to do. The glass he filled was quickly swallowed and he filled another.
âI blew it!â He shouldnât have said it was for a girl. What if she thought it was serious and stopped talking to him? What if she found out that he lied about having a girl and though he was a creep?
A million bad thoughts raced through his head, until he finally decided. He was going to do something about it. Maybe it was the adrenaline, maybe it was the alcohol. But a new wave of courage waved through him and he grabbed the flowers and his keys. He knew Hange had a meeting at work, so (Y/N) was home alone.
The walk over was quick. But not quick enough. When he reached the apartment door, the courage washed of and he realized what was going to happened. He was going to confess and she was going to reject him. Why would she not? She has probably heard about his insults and how cold he is from Hange. Why would someone as cheerful as her want someone as dickish like him?
No, he couldnât do it. He left the building.
(Y/N) heard someone moving around outside the door. She looked out the peep hole and saw no one, but something on the ground caught her eye. The flowers Levi had bought from her. All four bouquets. Wasnât these flowers for a girl? After a minute of looking at the flowers with pure confusion, it clicked.
She was the girl.
Without thinking she ran after him. Only in her sleeping shorts and tank top, and her slippers, she ran down the stairs and out to the street. After looking around, she caught him walking away.
âLevi!â
He turned around and was met with her body colliding into him. She was out of breath after running down all the stairs after him. âThe hell you doing out here brat!â
He looked down at her hands and saw the flowers. He rubbed his hand down his face and sighed deeply. Here comes the rejection.
âWas I the girl?â He looked down at her. Risking it all, he nodded. âYeah, yeah you areâ. Time stood still. The people around them didnât matter, the rain that was starting to pour down didnât matter, only them. He looked in her eyes, looking for an answer, but when she pulled him down too meet his lips, he got it. Even though it took a moment for him to realize this was actually happening, when he snapped out of it he kissed her back.
It was like something out of a movie. The rain was pouring down. He was bending her back down a bit and leaning down with her. One hand was behind her back, stabilizing her and the other was on her jaw, holding her close. Her hands were wrapped around his neck. He broke the kiss when he felt her shivering against him. Suddenly he was reminded that they were out on a busy street, it was almost midnight, and she wasnât wearing clothes fit for the rain, or just being outside in the cold.
âLetâs go inside, yeah?â She nodded her hand. As they walked back to her apartment hand in hand, Levi thanked the gods that Erwin had dragged him out to that boring bar.
A/N: Hope you like it! I'm not too happy with the ending, its a bit rushed but i am writing this at 2 am, sooo hehe. Might write a part 2! Take care :)

Honey, No
Idol: Dreamcatcher
@oncewinglyâ:Â Maybe 8th member of dreamcatcher fangirls over someone from Twice making her members jealous?
âbuy me a coffeeâ
Gahyeonâs gaze kept shifting from one person to another. The silence of the room was becoming deafening for the girls and one of them wanted to speak up, but couldnât find the words to say.
Boraâs finger kept tapping against the table almost impatiently as she tried to keep her composure, but the little giggles that often rang in the room was slowly thinning her patience whilst Handong did her best to focus on her food.
Siyeonâs eyes rose as she observed the dancer and Yoohyeon was already pouting in the corner as she picked at her food and Yubin and Minji were just silently eating their own food until Minji looked up and fixed her stare at you when you had yet to lift your eyes off the screen from watching Twiceâs latest comeback stage.
âY/n, would you mind watching after dinner?â She asked with the same smile she typically gives you when asking you to do something and her voice catches your attention before youâre flashing her a smile of your own and putting your phone away. âSorry, unnie. I got really excited when I saw Jihyo sunbaenim.â
The blush on your face probably further ruined their mood and Bora was practically boring a hole on the area where you had your phone, but soon snapped out of it when you were able to properly take in what was in front of you and pride swelled in her chest as she saw the same bright eyed look you always had when she cooked something for you.
âOh, wow, did you cook this, unnie?â You question and Gahyeon raised her hand immediately. âI helped!â You giggle at her exclamation before reaching over to pinch her cheek. âAnd Iâm sure you did a great job!â You tell her, the tension finally lifting as the girls began to smile and start messing with each other.
âUnnie, you should try this one. Dongie unnie and I went to buy this a couple days ago and itâs really good.â Yoohyeon said while she offered you some of the kimchi she had and you happily accepted it. âWe were actually debating on which one to get. It was on sale and then I told her, why not?â Handong shrugged as you took a bite, your face lighting up as you nodded your head and showed a thumbs up. âItâs amazing! You guys made the right decision getting it.â
Yubin was in the process of getting some more food when she noticed you struggling with the wrap you were making and she silently smiled before reaching over. âUnnie, hold it like this so it doesnât spill.â She laughed and you furrow your brows while the younger girl adjusted your hold and began to fix the food for you. âBut itâs tiny.â You protested, making her and Handong giggle before she finished and helped you close the wrap properly.
âSometimes I forget that Y/n isnât Korean. But when it comes to things like these, she canât even make her own food.â Minji teased as you pouted after eating your food, cheeks puffed up and mouth full, making it impossible for you to retort.
âAh, thatâs so cute!â Siyeon laughed while Gahyeon poked your cheek. Your brows pinched together as you tried swatting their hands away, but found it useless soon after.
And just like many other nights, you and your members spent it the way you knew how - full of laughter and chatter.
..
You werenât sure what to think when you arrived at the music show. Of course you had met and even befriended various other artists you came across whenever you had the chance, but nothing compared to when you would be in the same vicinity as the ones you idolized and looked up to.
Jihyo was even more charismatic in person than you had expected.
You were just minding your own business after finishing rehearsals when you had rounded the corner and accidentally bumped into the leader. She seemed just as surprised as you were when she instinctively reached out to grab your shoulders and steady you back on your feet.
âSorry about that! I wasnât looking where I was going.â She apologized, making your already wide eyes grow bigger as you waved your hands frantically in front of you. âN-No! That was my fault. Iâm so sorry!â You bowed hastily and Dahyun laughed lightly beside her friend before a flash of recognition came to her face when she got a good look at you.
âYouâre Y/n! Gahyeon introduced us during the ISAC.â The rapper explained and you smile bashfully, remembering that your maknae had indeed introduced you to her friend. âYeah, I remember. Gahyeon likes to remind me of how shy I was that time.â
Just then, a mischievous smirk crept up the girlâs face when she glanced at her member. âGahyeon also tells me that youâre a fan. She told me that you were really hyped up about our comeback.â Jihyoâs face lights up at the mention of you being a fan and you feel your face heat up more than it already was. âYou are?â
âI, well, yes. Iâm a very big fan of you all and I w-wanted to say you all did well.â You stammer, causing Dahyunâs smirk to widen. âI heard that Jihyo unnie was your bias, too.â Your jaw went slack at the mention and your entire face exploded into a million shades of red whilst the older woman seemed amused by your embarrassment, flattered with being your bias. âAww! Youâre so adorable!â She squealed before giving you a hug.
âDonât mind Dahyun. She likes to be a tease when she can, but Iâve seen your performance and it was really great! You looked really cool and the song was amazing.â Jihyo complimented and if you could die right there, you wouldnât mind with how you had gotten both a hug and a compliment from one of your idols.
âTell you what, if youâre ever free, why donât you text me and we can hang out? Or if youâre too shy, you can ask your friend to text Dahyun.â Jihyo teased lightly, making you stutter in disbelief before the dark haired woman nodded her head, patting your arm. âThat sounds like a plan. Iâll be sure to tell her.â
You could see why they were friends as Dahyun grinned at you. âWe have to get going, but weâll see you later. Fighting!â With one last hug, Jihyo and Dahyun finally bid you goodbye and you were left standing in the hall, staring into space.
âY/n! There you are! What are you doing out here?â Siyeonâs voice suddenly greeted your ears and youâre broken out of your dazed state before you were looking to your member, face still flushed as you clung to her arm when she was near enough.
The older girl looked confused by your sudden shyness before she put her hand to your forehead. âYah! Are you sick? Your face is all red.â She said worriedly and you shook your head before tugging at her arm. âI met Jihyo sunbaenim!â You bursts out and Siyeonâs eyes widened slightly at the volume of your voice before you were the one leading her back to your room to prepare.
âUnnie! She was so nice and pretty! Dahyun-ssi was also there and she remembered me because of Gahyeon. I canât believe she told her about Jihyo sunbaenim being my bias, that was so embarrassing!â You groaned and she could barely understand what you were saying with how fast you were speaking.
As you arrived inside your room, the rest of your members looked over while you kept ranting about your encounter with the two Twice members and Siyeon looked to them for help and Bora was quick to intercept as she called out to you.
Her voice had effectively stolen your attention before she was running to your arms. Her face nestled into the crook of your neck and smiled as she relaxed in your arms and the comforting feeling made you momentarily forget about your earlier encounter with the two other idols.
âWhatâs got you all chatty?â Minji giggled, noting your entrance and you beamed while squeezing the woman in your arms. âI met Jihyo sunbae earlier and she asked me to hang out!â You exclaim, causing all of your members to look oddly at you.
Bora had pulled away to look at your face before turning to Siyeon, who shrugged in response. âDahyun-ssi said she would contact Gahyeon and ask about when we could and Iâm just so excited!â
Yubin pursed her lips together at your rant. While she was friends with Jihyo, she had to admit that hearing you go on and on about someone that wasnât anyone from the group made all of them a bit insecure.
Were you getting tired of them?
The pout on Gahyeonâs face told you that there was something wrong, along with the silence in the room. âDid I... miss something?â You ask confusedly and Handong smiles at your cluelessness before she rested her chin against her hand.
âI know youâre not doing it on purpose, but I think I speak for all of us when I say that weâre a bit self conscious of how you constantly talk about Twice or Jihyo sunbae in general.â She explains and Yoohyeon quickly spoke when she saw the look on your face. âIt isnât a bad thing! Itâs cute that you admire her a lot, itâs just... we want your attention, too.â
âYouâve been on your phone a lot and once you start to actually hang out, weâre kinda scared that you might like hanging out with them more than with us.â Minji sighed as she ran her fingers through her hair. âYouâve been ignoring us a lot lately, we just thought that maybe you were getting tired of the group.â Bora added, making your expression soften when you look at all of their saddened faces.
You didnât think that they would feel this way. With how much you spent with each other, you didnât think that they would be bothered if you hung out with other people more. In fact, you thought that maybe they needed a break from you.
âI would never get tired of any of you.â You tell them with a small smile. âI love you girls and I would give nothing more than to have you all with me until the end.â You reach for Siyeonâs hand while the other arm wraps around Boraâs shoulders again.
âI guess we were kinda worried for nothing.â Yubin chuckled when she checked the time and you nod your head in agreement. âThereâs no reason for any of you to be jealous! I could just spend a day with my idol, but Iâm always going to be with Dreamcatcher whatever the time and wherever the place.â
After finally having the assurance that they all needed, all worries seemed to disappear and each of the girls were relieved to know that you would be sticking around and their doubt had only gotten the best of them. But of course that wouldnât erase the lingering jealousy whenever you fangirled over your idols the way you did.
âCan I still hang out with Twice?â
âNot unless one of us comes along.â
