i imagine bff and laurie knew each other well before laurie's fight with his twin - they could have been roommates, neighbors, class partners, whatever. but because laurie always had [his twin sister] to confide in/etc, he never really needed anyone else. but after, laurie was on his own for the first time and had to find a new support system, and bff was a big part of that. there are things about both of them that play on the other's insecurities (maybe bff is a successful artist of some type, or a scholarship student who's now more successful/richer/whatever than laurie bc of his own work, maybe laurie's a constant reminder to bff of a father who wanted a more sporty son, idk!!! we can talk!!!), but despite that (which may or may not still be unsaid), they've absolutely become each other's rocks over the past few years.

it's highly likely laurie had a crush at one point, whether it was mutual or he was just pining we can totally talk about, but this is in platonic bc i really don't need it to go down that route at all (tbh i think it'd be cute if bff was getting married and laurie was on best man duties bc his year isn't crazy enough as it is, but that's totally optional).

Digimon Adventure: 2020 – Episode 38: The Blazing Blue Friendship (Review)

Thoughts on the thirty-eighth episode of the Digimon Adventure reboot series.

I think this was a decent episode, but for Yamato’s “return”, I expected it to be better. But it was another filler episode with some nice moments in it.

After Yamato’s been riding on Garurumon for 2+ months, the episode just drops us into a plot that has “happened” . . . I’d prefer they didn’t do this. It’s too random for a character we haven’t seen in a meaningful capacity for months.

Jou “coincidentally” and literally falls in (love) on Yamato. :D I liked their dynamic, actually. They made pretty good teammates! Even though they were apart for most of the episode, lol.

Yamato tells us that Gabumon has been captured by Mephismon, who sucks the energy of Digimon using an evil spell to a black crystal (a shard of Millenniumon). A flimsy connection to the plot, but I guess I’ll take it! Still a filler episode, though. :P

OMG when Yamato recounts how they went in to save the Digimon from Mephismon, we get a shot of him HOLDING HANDS with two little Chibickmon as he leads them to safety. IT WAS ADORABLE AF. He's going to make a great father someday to Sora’s children. XD

Yamato: “Jou. Gomamon. I can’t reach the very top alone. That’s why . . . lend me a hand! Please.” UwU I loved this. Especially since Yamato was always so dismissive of Jou in the past (. . . if little kids watching this series can even remember that far back, lol), so it’s great progress to see this!

Jou: “I . . . I never thought you’d say something like that to me!” LMAO. And the way he says it and expresses himself. Jou 100% has a crush on Yamato. XD; Get in line behind Sora! You’re not the only one who thinks he’s impressive. ;)

The episode cuts to Taichi’s group and . . . I facepalm so hard, lol. This is Yamato’s “return” episode after 738493 episodes of Taichi, and we can’t take one measly episode break from the guy? REALLY TOEI?

But I guess it’s forgiven because it was mostly so Takeru could provide us with some background information about the Takaishida family situation. It remains mostly the same as the OG - their parents divorced, Takeru lives with their mother, Yamato with their father. Takeru adds this: “But Big Brother always contacted me and came to see me a lot.” This is supposedly different to the OG, as the OG claimed that they rarely saw each other. So at least their parents are putting their kids first, now? TBH I care more about the headcanons I can create with this - Yamato seeing Natsuko more than he should, wheee. :D :D :D

It’s super nice that we got Yamato and Tsunomon’s first encounter! Since the OG never showed us, either. Just listen to Tsunomon bouncing after Yamato. OMG so cute! *SQUISH*

Gabumon: “Yamato, you protected me! You could’ve just left me there.” Yamato: “I . . . just protected you on my own too. *SMILE.* You, what’s your name?” This realisation made Yamato turn and accept Gabumon? Has he never protected anyone before/did something on his own? lol. I found it a bit odd. I think there needed to be more to bridge this bond.

It goes without saying, but . . . Yamato climbing a mountain via bars stuck to the side of it is utterly ridiculous. :P

OK . . . Jou countering the chanting of the evil spell by chanting material from his textbooks was hilarious. It was also utterly ridiculous - but freaking hilarious. So . . . I give it a pass and just LOL. XD;

Ikkakumon using his attack Harpoon Torpedo to create “bars” for Yamato to climb the mountain was actually really neat.

But it has to be said that Yamato is just as superhuman - if not moreso - than Taichi in this episode, ROFL. I guess he didn’t want to be outdone by his little brother, the Olympic gymnast, Takeru. So Yamato is an Olympic athlete - a three-time Gold medallist. No one better write him as hating sports in reboot fanfiction, as they mistakenly do in OG fanfiction . . .

Yamato going through the spell’s forcefield to reach Gabumon was 100% worthy of a Mega evolution. If Taichi can simply breathe to evolve his digimon to two Megas, surely Yamato can Mega evolve his Digimon with this act of courage and determination? Toei: “No.” -_-

Yamato to Gabumon: “I changed after I met you. I gained something important! Gabumon, you were . . . you were my very first . . . friend!” Awww. That was both super sweet and super sad. Yamato didn’t have any friends before Gabumon? Not even before his parents divorced? The child is 11! THAT’S A LOT OF LIFE LIVED. Damn. :( Don’t worry, Yamato, Sora will be your friend - and then some . . .

METALGARURUMON SHOULD’VE HAPPENED. His “aura” did show up on WereGarurumon, but it was a blink-and-you-miss-it moment. You literally have to pause your screen to see it - as though Toei didn’t even want you to see it. O_o Strange.

Gabumon to Yamato: “Wow, you climbed this [mountain]?” Yes, Gabumon, he did. We are all as astonished as you are. But I know someone who will be impressed! ;)

Takeru: “Big Brother!” OMFG YASSS!!! I’ve been waiting 784392 years for them to reunite for the 734892th time. I’m so excited! I HOPE THEY DON’T SPLIT UP IMMEDIATELY IN THE NEXT EPISODE. I’m watching you, Toei. orz

This was a filler episode. BUT I LOVED THE END. So . . . I liked that we got more background on Yamato, and I liked it simply because Yamato is (still) my favourite character in the reboot . . . but it was just an OK episode. For his “return” - I did expect more. :P

Next week looks to be fun! Lots of Jou - so here’s to hoping he gets fleshed out to be an actual likeable character! (I did like Jou in this episode, actually. Another plus!) And that Taichi doesn’t shoehorn himself in for 90% of the episode. I’m also just super excited for all the kids to be together! :D

Things we needed to happen (to men) at Grand Prix Final in Turin and WHAT WE GOT

I know, I am quite late with this one, but my PC broke several times while I wrote this post and after that I was frustrated and then Japanese Nationals happened... So please be kind :D

1. No injuries!  ✔ 

2. Yuzuru Hanyu finally winning the Grand Prix Final after such a long and hard time of injuries  ( X )

No, he did not win the gold unfortunately. But still, I cannot say he lost. He came in seconds, he got the silver medal. Also, he absolutely won his 4Lz back, he won the whole arena during his magnificent performances, and he “won” 5 quads in the free. Although he didn’t win gold, I believe Yuzuru left the competition with a feeling of accomplishment. And we are so proud!

3. Funny moments at the Gala  ( X )

Not quite. The gala wasn’t a blast to be honest. But we got many cute moments of Yuzuru crafting his second olympic gold medal :D

4. Podium entertainment ;-D ✔ 

THE BOUQUET WAS MADE OUT OF CHOCOLATE!!!! And when we all screamed while pictures were taken, his confused look made us all laugh. Yuzu, why are you still shocked that everyone loves you?! xD Such a humble man <3

Of course he wasn’t super happy with “just” silver. But I remember Brian said that after Pyeongchan, Yuzuru changed a bit. Nothing can take his 2 Olympic Gold Medals away from him. He is the G.O.A.T., everyone knows. I feel like he is more considerate with himself these days. His eagerness to win will never vanish, but I think he is less tense now. It is good to see him dancing while waiting to receive his silver medal xD

A big no no here! There have already been several disussions about unfair judging, but this time the judges really tried messing with everyone. I am super angry. Unfortunately, a lot of people confuse this discussion with “Yuzu-Bots” that didn’t want Nathan to win. Don’t get me wrong, with 2 clean skates, Nathan totally deserved to win! But the point here is HOW he won! The marging was simply too high, him receiving more PCs than Hanyu. According to Jackie Wong, Nathan himself mentioned that he has to improve in terms of cleanliness and the general performance. EVEN NATHAN HIMSELF! He is not to blame, the judges are!

one day Lance wanders into the volleyball courts (he was just strolling he’s never been to this side of the campus before, despite being a student here for over six months already) to waste some time before he had practice 

he ends up watching until the final set, captivated by Keith’s play

from then on he makes an effort to go to every game Keith plays in, official or practice it doesn’t matter he’s just really interested in this volleyball guy because not only is he hot he’s also really?? fucking good???? 

the moment Lance knew he was gonna stan the fuck outta Keith was when he saved the match, diving to reach the ball before it could fall out after it rebounded off the blockers 

‘twas magical, Lance felt the tension so thick in the air that he didn’t realise he was holding his breath until he’d let it go and the crowd that had accumulated to watch the practice all cheered and jumped up

eventually Keith’s team noticed the cute boy in a swimmer’s jersey, always watching and cheering loudest whenever Keith gained a point and it’s really cute and they totally ship it

the team say things like “oh look, your number one fan is here again today,” and at first Keith was really confused because he had no idea who they were all talking about and no one wanted to point Lance out because it’s fun to watch him struggle

Lance honestly doesn’t mind that Keith doesn’t know he exists or is his fan, honestly he’s a little embarrassed at how much he admires Keith despite not knowing a single thing about him except that:

Lance is embarrassed because Keith is incredibly good looking and confident and Lance is uhhhhh not

a week prior to that confession Keith was complaining to Shiro about his team “teasing me, keep telling me about this fanboy I apparently have but I literally have no clue who they’re talking about?? Do you think they’re joking with me???”

“hey Keith how was practice?” “fine, why?” “no reason I just wanted to know if you saw your number one fanboy today,” “well I wouldn’t fuckin know, no one is telling me who he is or what he looks like.” “huh. Well, I know for a fact that he was there today so you must’ve seen him,” “great—wait what.” 

“he was late to practice again today, so I just assumed he was watching you play—” “nO WAIT SHIRO WHAT YOU KNOW WHO HE IS???????? WHAT???” “oh yeah he’s one of my swimmers. I didn’t tell you?” “UH WHAT ABOUT THIS REACTION INDICATES THAT YOU TOLD ME?”

Shiro proceeds to dodge any question about Lance from Keith

Shiro has a secret meeting with Keith’s team, letting them know that he knows and they all coordinate so that Lance and Keith don’t meet for as long as possible 

because it’s just so fucking funny to watch Keith slowly lose his mind

it gets to the point where Keith storms into swim practice one day (like two weeks after finding out Shiro knew and he’s had enough with the vague comments) and he just stands at the edge of the pool and screams

“WHICH ONE OF YOU WET BASTARDS KEEPS COMING TO THE VOLLEYBALL COURTS TO TERRORISE ME??” “Keith you’re interrupting my class—” “SHUT UP SHIRO I’M BUSY”

The entire team just kinda looks at one another, and notices Lance is missing

Keith catches on that someone is missing and he spots just this blurry Lance curled up into a ball submerged and he just stares and waits, arms crossed over his chest and hip popped unintentionally he’s just really sassy deal with it

Lance stays under for three minutes and eight seconds (Shiro timed him, like every good coach does, and actually looks impressed as he drags out his record by 37 seconds) and when he finally comes up for air he’s sputtering and feels light headed but everyone is looking at him and Keith is still fucking here

Lance surrenders, he can’t run away now, so he just goes for it and tells Keith everything—how he was just exploring the campus, came across his team playing a practice match, and since then he’s just been smitten and he gushes about how much he admires Keith and how hyped it gets him when he sees him play, and Lance is rambling so much he doesn’t notice the growing blush rising to Keith’s face until Keith is kneeling by the pool with his hands pressed over Lance’s mouth and that was the beginning of something beautiful

alternatively; Lance doesn’t come up for air, Keith goes in himself and realises that the fucking dumbass drowned himself, and Keith performs CPR because apparently no one else on the team knows ?? how to??? CPR? (they do, but they caught on pretty early what this was all about)

Shiro definitely fucking knows but the man booked it someplace safe the moment Keith dived into the pool to drag Lance out (coach/brother of the year, everyone)

yuzuru was a victim of the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami and lived in an emergency shelter with his family for about a week. spent the summer afterwards skating 60 different ice shows to raise money for the victims. he lost his home rink because of the earthquake and so would go to the show rinks early to practice ):

I cannot emphasise HOW FRIKKIN #YOLO HIS 2018 OLYMPIC SEASON WAS. this was the medal he wanted his ENTIRE LIFE, which he had literally planned since he was a novice skater and had seriously begun planning since right after he won the gold in Sochi. this plan had to be adjusted due to the truly distressing number of injuries, illnesses and misfortunes he sustained during the last quad (his Olympic athlete profile has PARAGRAPHS dedicated to all his injuries - and note these are only the post-2014 ones). but yuzuru started the 2017-18 olympic season with a plan to basically break all 3 of his WRs at the olympics by recycling his Chopin and Seimei programs but upgrading the layout and introducing a new quad - the 4Lz - which he had been preparing for years. and then this plan was, once again, thrown out the window when he sustained the injury in NHK in early November, which was much more severe than he first thought. he sat out of competition for 3mths despite hoping to return first at Japanese Nationals and then to the Pyeongchang team event, but pulled out of both as well. yuzuru made his comeback from injury debut at the individual men’s event, aka. the BIG DEAL, after marching into the airport like a BOSS. we were told he had only recovered his triple axel 3 weeks ago and his quads 2 weeks ago, but post-Olympics, he’s slowly revealing that it was even more dire than that. he skated the entire Olympics on painkillers that were not working 100% which meant every jump landing hurt.  and he. frikkin. WON. by doing this. and this.  (it was also the 1000th medal in Winter Olympics history because destiny rewards those who are Most Extra)

Yuzu:  This is not related to Patrick anymore.  I was really fired up this time. Boyang Jin got 95 points in SP, right?  When I saw that score, I thought, wow NO MISTAKES!!  He gave the best of his abilities!  OH YES!!!! Matsu: You didn’t think OH NO!!!  You thought OH YES???? Yuzu:  I thought “It’s here!!!"  Since I was a child, I have never liked winning a competition when others made mistakes.  Everyone skates to their best, but I still come first, above all.  That is what I like. No one bats an eye if JJ uses his phone all the time because JJ can be such a narcissistic bastard who needs to announce his presence all over the internet. 

No one also will bat an eye if Yuri is on his phone all the time because Yuri fights people on his phone all the time. All the discourses he dives headfirst into, all the time he throws his phone at the wall from anger. 

But everyone is always surprised when they see Otabek on the phone all the time. He rarely talks to anyone. His Instagram, while it’s not empty, but there aren’t a lot of posts either. He rarely tweets and he doesn’t post a lot of videos on youtube except for the songs he creates. 

So why is Otabek always on his phone?

When they’re still new in their relationship, JJ and Yuri wondered a lot about it. They were curious because Otabek sometimes laughed—not laughed like a normal person, but a small snort he sometimes do and they found to be downright cute—over his phone.

JJ rises up to take a peek behind Otabek’s shoulder. “What is that?” He asks, quite confused as to why there’s a picture of a frog on a unicycle.

yoi anniversary countdown day 6 : relationships - cup of china starts and phichit thinks about those around him, his friends and competitors.

it’s the first time he actually makes it so far in the grand prix series, and phichit is excited and giddy, if still nervous, but he has to wonder if the cup of china feels less stressful (although there is more on the line for him with his fourth place at skate America) because yuuri is here.

his best friend is a ball of nerves before a competition, always, but somehow, it always seems to have a calming effect on phichit. maybe it’s because one of them needs to keep their heads about them. whatever it is, phichit feels more confident, more comfortable this time around.

(he’s pretty sure the two of them will trounce everyone here, constant medallists included.)

there’s something different about yuuri this time around though.

well, it’s obvious what’s different about yuuri. victor nikiforov, yuuri’s life-long idol and crush is by his side, acting like an overgrown puppy starved for yuuri’s attention, and has spent the past few months living under the same roof and training and teaching yuuri everything he knows. of course yuuri would be different now than he used to be.

but it’s one thing to see his confidence grow in bits and pieces over the phone and in instagram posts (via victor’s insta, mostly), it’s an entirely different thing to see it in real life. and really, phichit is happy for him and he’s really proud. his best friend is coming out of his shell and it is a sight to behold.

(seeing yuuri grab victor’s hand and pushing their foreheads together, looking determined and ready to slay while victor looks stunned and breathless and smitten is something phichit wishes he could have filmed up close and in high definition to show it at their wedding.)

chris is somehow both better and worse than phichit ever imagined.

he’s never had the opportunity to meet the man (as much of a legend as victor himself, seeing as he’s never missed the podium in the past decade, although he’s never managed to beat victor for the gold) before, but he’s heard stories (half of them from yuuri) and read interviews and watched his routines, and he’s both exactly and nothing like the picture that’s been building in his head.

(he wonders if this is how yuuri felt when victor first showed up in hasetsu and shattered and rebuilt all of yuuri’s expectations. he likes to think it is.)

chris is sweet for all that he’s handsy, dishing out advice with a smile to his younger competitors and skating the most lascivious programs like it’s nothing. phichit can only wish to one day reach that level of self-confidence and be that kind to his juniors.

(he won’t let himself think about how his heart races and his cheeks heat up and his throat dries up while he watches intoxicated. it’s not like he’s here for this, whatever this is. he doesn’t need that distraction right now. he’s here to win.)

leo and guang hong are as cute and as frustrating as they were at skate america, and phichit would very much like to shut them in a broom closet somewhere until the stop being idiots.

(he doesn’t, though, because he’s pretty sure that guang hong’s head might just explode before anything can even be said between them. also, yuuri would probably scold him into next week if he did.)

it’s good to be able to skate with them again, have fun and relax and not worry about appearances. it’s good to be able to laugh stupidly and bicker about who got the most and the best selfies with victor and with chris and with yuuri and with each other. (and it’s going to be good to kick both of their asses this time around.)

still, phichit kind of envies their budding romance, as much as they skirt around each other timidly. still, he won’t let himself be distracted by such thoughts right now.

he’s not touching georgi and his failed relationship with a hundred foot pole. the man is good, you can’t be the second most decorated skater in russia for years and years without being good, and honestly, phichit gets being heartbroken, gets taking a while to get over the pain and the loneliness and the confusion.

but maybe basing an entire season’s programs on and around the break up wasn’t the best way to go about trying to get her back? and besides, phichit’s seen her instagram (hey, he researches all his competitors, and well, he’s online friends with most of the current skaters), and she seems happily married and beyond done with georgi’s drama.

he can’t really pinpoint what is it about this particular event, but his friends, his closest and dearest friends are here, and not only them but idols he’s always admired, too (some in more ways than one, but that’s besides the point), and phichit feels like he can conquer the world here, now, with them, and from them, he can only hope that the rest of the series, the rest of the season, will fell just as amazing.

Dangal is a movie that resembles many other movies with regards to the genre, atmosphere, spirit and subject. Movies like Chak De India and Sultan being the latest with Wrestling as the sport have given us the patriotic feel. There is one thing that this movie teaches you and stands out from all the others is ‘STAY TRUE TO YOUR ROOTS’. This is the lesson that Dangal carves in your mind.

The movie is as all know a true story of Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita. Mahavir is a passionate wrestler who quit wrestling due to the pressure of earning a living for his family as the sport did not give money. But this man always dreamt of making his son a big wrestler who will bring Gold for the country. But Mahavir was blessed with 4 daughters consecutively and he left hope of having a son in life. But depressed and disheartened Mahavir never ill-treated his wife and daughters and took all the possible care of the family. One day his two elder daughters showed the strength of what a woman can do if wrongly addressed and Mahavir got his hope back of winning a Gold Medal for his country irrespective of it’s a boy or a girl wrestling. This is what the movie says and let’s believe it as one, its Aamir Khan the perfectionist and two, that is how it all started and that the start cannot be converted to fiction. So yes this is how the Gold Medallists Phogat sisters were born.

Now let’s focus on the movie. It is a simple movie of passion and struggle to reach a height father wants to. So he becomes the ladder and asks his daughters to step on each step to reach the destination. He is the taskmaster, guide and coach. As a father Aamir Khan convinces you that he is dotting yet loving and ambitious. As a sportsman there is a strong respect in his mind for the sport and doesn’t care what are people accusing him of.  As a coach he has all the right techniques of assessing a player if he/she is defensive by nature or attacking in the game. He is a complete family man with all the arrogance and love in place. Sakshi Tanwar has done an outstanding job as a mother. The pinch in her heart while watching her daughters suffer pain, tears in her eyes each time for her family, silent anger and the nervousness of how the world will see her family if her girls are wrestling has an even balance all through the film. The young Geeta and Babita are equally good and strong to the elder ones. As an audience we don’t know if the practice is right but you still see the efforts that all the girls have put in filming the game. Yes the game. It may have not been easy to be banged and knocked on the floor in retakes to get it right. Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar look realistic. The little Fatima Sana Sheikh who played cute Bharti in Chachi 420 will make you forget all the adorable roles she did with this rough and rugged one named Geeta. Sanya Malhotra looks literally ready to kill it on the wrestling ring with that look as Babita. Her acting steals all the show. These debutants have the skills in making you look like they really are what they are playing and in reality relate to each other. The conflicts between the siblings and their father and the society and the coach are amazingly shown. 

No unnecessary songs and emotions create a powerful impression of the film. Yet I would say that the music compliments the film. There are some moments in the film that really don’t need too many dialogues and are well acted. In one of the scenes both the actors are just crying over the phone but you can still hear some unspoken dialogues to understand the feelings between them. There are also many compelling dialogues that bring tears to your eyes. The movie gives you Goosebumps. At the end we have all come to the conclusion that Aamir Khan will give you your best 3 hours in his films. 

The dedication of the father and the respect for his daughters is the remarkable part of this film. The name Dangal is not just wrestling but the fight within, with our people and the reality.
