R a n d a l
like i said before Randal has eczema, on his neck, upper arms, and ankle, i didnt mention it then but i also like to think he has it on one of his hands too
blind as fuck, blinder than a bat even(/j) if you took his glasses and looked at the side view of them, it would be some thick ass fucking glasses, if you would make fun of him for it he would just get mad and yell at the top of his lungs until you went away
He definitely bites his ice cream, especially popsicles
speaking of yelling, he's that kind of person who can yell really really loud, you could be 2 miles away from him and hear whatever he yells as clear as day
whenever he gets a loose tooth he pulls it out without a second thought, or if he wanted to he'll wiggle it around other people to gross them out and laugh if they had a weak stomach and gagged
He's like a 5 year old when he wants to show you something, from tugging on your sleeve to saying "hey" 200 times or repeating your name till you respond
He likes going upside down and feeling the blood go to his head
He knows that its "thy brother" and not thou, but says it anyways just to annoy Luther
I also hc Randal as cupioromantic(def; A person who does not feel romantic attraction but desires a romantic relationship)
He picks at his skin, excessively and constantly, to the point you'd have to distract him or tie his hands together in order for him to stop
He gets emotionally attached to people really easily, this goes for plushies and stuffed animals too
you'd have to pry the plush out of his hands if you wanted him to leave it at the store
L u t h e r
looonnngggg lectures at least an hour long
Loves floral designs, if there's floral printed wallpaper you bet he's buying at least 5 different kinds
overdecorates during the holidays but it always ends up looking amazing and organized
has tried to teach Randal German but stopped because Randal kept purposely mispronouncing words to annoy Luther and always forgot what he was taught an hour later
Is the first to say bless you when someone sneezes, every single time
He knits, you can't tell me otherwise, this man definitely knits in the short amount of free time he gets
Luther appreciates when his catmen do a favor for him very much and makes sure to always thank them when they do
When he gets annoyed he complains in german
(I don’t have much headcanons for Nyen and Nyon despite them being my favorites)
N y e n
Has a special interest in knives and sometimes looks at and admires the knives kept in the kitchen
When he reads romance novels he likes to think of what he'd do in all of the drama scene's
because he watches so much Judge Judy and reads romance novels he's super nosy, secretly loves to gossip but has no one to gossip with apart from Nyon
He sometimes struggles when reading the romance novels Randal let’s him borrow so he says the words out loud and slowly in order to understand it
N y o n
Now listen.
Autism. dinosaur. hands.
You’ll see him walking around the house sometimes while doing it, but if you were to point it out he’d get embarrassed and immediately put his hands down
Doesn’t say Meow in English, he says it in Russian (which is Мяу)
He enjoys playing with fidget toys when he’s bored
He prefers to speak in Russian instead of English since he has a lot of trouble with English, though he can understand it better than speaking

Erlikosaurus andrewsi
By Ripley Cook
Etymology: Demon-King Reptile
First Described By: Perle, 1980
Classification: Dinosauromorpha, Dinosauriformes, Dracohors, Dinosauria, Saurischia, Eusaurischia, Theropoda, Neotheropoda, Averostra, Tetanurae, Orionides, Avetheropoda, Coelurosauria, Tyrannoraptora, Maniraptoromorpha, Maniraptoriformes, Maniraptora, Therizinosauria, THerizinosauridea, Therizinosauridae
Status: Extinct
Time and Place: About 90 million years ago, in the Turonian of the Late Cretaceous
Erlikosaurus is found in the Bayan Shireh Formation in Dornogovi, Mongolia
Physical Description: Erlikosaurus was a kind of Therizinosaur, the very bulky feathered dinosaurs with long, pointed claws extending from their hands. They’re weird in other ways, too - they have backward-facing hip bones like those of birds and Ornithischians, and giant pot-bellies to let them digest large amounts of plant material. As such, they stood up almost as vertical as people do - rather than horizontally like… all other dinosaurs. Erlikosaurus had a long neck, a squat body, short legs and a short tail; while its arms were normal length, it also had very long curved claws, like other therizinosaurs. It had very large and long nostrils for a therizinosaur, and a very high number of teeth compared to its relatives. Interestingly enough, therizinosaurs like Erlikosaurus also had swollen, pneumatized braincases, which allowed them to be lighter weight and potentially cool off quicker. Erlikosaurus also, unlike other Therizinosaurs, ahd long and slender claws on its feet. It may have been around six meters long. Like other therizinosaurs, it would have been covered with feathers all over its body, and potentially had very primitive long feathers on its arms like wings.
Diet: Erlikosaurus, like other therizinosaurs, was an herbivore.
By Jack Wood
Behavior: Erlikosaurus is a fascinating dinosaur behavior-wise because we actually have a decent number of scans of its brain, which may teach us aspects of its behavior. Erlikosaurus had a very well developed sense of smell, hearing, and balanced, which means that it retained a lot of the traits of carnivorous theropods - and probably used them to its advantage as an herbivore. It also probably was able to sense oncoming predators well and have complex social behavior. The range of its mouth, however, was narrower than that of its close carnivorous relatives - indicating that herbivorous dinosaurs, much like herbivorous mammals, had smaller mouth gapes than carnivores. With complicated social behavior, long claws, and good senses, Erlikosaurus would have been incredibly paranoid - and dangerous - ready to fend off anyone that would have threatened their family groups with those long scythe claws. As a social dinosaur, Erlikosaurus would have probably taken care of its young, and been warm blooded. The scythe claws, when not used in defense, would have been helpful in gathering plants down from the trees, much like with sloths today.
Ecosystem: The Bayan Shireh Environment was one of many such ecosystems found in the mid to late Cretaceous, showcasing a wide variety of animals that were almost - but not quite - like their latest Cretaceous counterparts. Here was a braided river environment, going through season wet and dry seasons as the mud and sand interchanged from one another leading to a variety of rock types and depositional environments. There were many water plants and flowering plants lining the shores, giving it a lush and green feel for at least part of the year - and giving Erlikosaurus something to eat! There were also fish, molluscs, the mammal Tsagandelta, and turtles making frequent appearances in the environment. Unnamed crocodylian relatives and Azhdarchid pterosaurs were present, but most of the charismatic animals present were other dinosaurs. Erlikosaurus wasn’t the only Therizinosaur, and also lived with Segnosaurus and Enigmosaurus. The very large, weird, and lopsided sauropod Erketu graced the treetops, slowly foraging on food, while the much smaller Ornithomimosaur Garudimimus scurried about between them all. Ankylosaurs went absolutely wild here, represented by Talarurus, Maleevus, and Tsagantegia. There were two small bipedal Ceratopsians, Graciliceratops and Microceratus, and the early hadrosauroid Gobihadros. There was also a mystery dinosaur, Amtosaurus, which has no affinity beyond “Ornithischian” at this point in time. As for predators, there was the very large raptor Achillobator and the small tyrannosaur Alectrosaurus - both similar in size to one another, and both giant dangers to the roaming herds of Erlikosaurus!
By Scott Reid
Other: Erlikosaurus was a very advanced therizinosaur, similar to later members of the group like Therizinosaurus rather than Early Cretaceous varieties. As such, it shows that the more classic therizinosaur body shape was around by the “mid” Cretaceous. In addition, it may or may not be the same animal as the other therizinosaurs found in its home - more research is needed to determine as such.

Two Sides of the Same Street / Chapter Five
Chapter One, Chapter Two, Chapter Three, Chapter Four
Pairing: Clementine x Louis
Word Count: 4223
Summary: Upon returning Clementine to her house, Louis gets the chance to meet her family.
A/N: I really have no excuse. I cannot thank you enough for the patience, I really can't say why this chapter took so long. I just fell out of my groove, lost a lot of inspiration for a while. This will be the last chapter in this series. I only ever intended for it to be short-lived and I feel like this is a nice place to finish. Hopefully, this ending will please you. Enjoy :)
-♥-
There was just darkness. Simple and suffocating darkness all around her. Clementine stretched out her hand, losing them to the dark. There was nothing, yet somehow everything felt..wrong. Oh so wrong.
"Stop it you're fine." She mumbled, her voice buzzing in the air above her. A slight breeze washed over her foot, causing Clementine to jump high into the air. Hidden amongst the darkness an empty row of bloodied nails began to surround her, creeping in from every direction. Clementine fell to her knees, desperate to sink into the floor and hide.
Her words couldn't break the silence. "Leave me alone." She gave a final cry before her vision went blurry, her lungs exploding in her chest.
The world around her fell together like puzzle pieces. Clementine immediately sat up, clutching the bed sheet that her legs were tangled in. Sweat collected beneath her knees, sending chills up along her thighs. A warm hand broke through her icy layer.
"Clem,"
Her head followed the hand on her shoulder to the body it belonged to, finding Louis kneeling beside her, his brows furrowed deeply. "What's going on? You were shouting in your sleep," He brushed some damp curls from her face, his heart sinking at the tears welled up in her eyes.
Clementine brought her knees up to her chest, holding herself tightly. "Yeah uh..it's fine.." She closed her eyes and took one long breath after another, thinking of the treehouse she had as a child. Lee told her to think of a peaceful place, a place where good memories hide.
"You wanna talk about it?" Louis whispered. He pulled the small lamp on the corner table closer to her, pushing away the darkness that always threatened her. "Sounded pretty serious." His pulse was running like a train in the night. Her screaming bloody murder had him thinking there was an intruder in the apartment, a physical threat would have been easier to deal with than an emotional manifestation that only she could see, that only she understood.
Nevertheless, his grandmother taught him never to leave someone crying alone.
"I have bad dreams from time to time, it's nothing new." Clem kept her eyes focused on the soft light beside her. If she even dared look at Louis she would reveal anything and everything about her, why her dreams are there and why they'll never go away.
Louis' eyes darted back and forth between her and the skinny hallway behind him. "Do you, uh...wanna stay in my bed? Just so you feel better!" He immediately adds to dial down her wide eyes. "You don't have to-"
"Okay," Part of her agrees just so she won't have to remain alone for the rest of the long night, the louder part of her brain agrees just so she can be closer to him. "I...don't really want to be alone." She voices the quiet side of her brain.
Louis wiped both his palms against his pants, unsure of where to tread now. "Well, let's go then." This situation wasn't included in the etiquette lessons his mother taught him as a young boy. Was there a protocol? Maybe offer her a glass of water? Tequila??
He would have grabbed her hand had his own not been sweating like crazy. They padded towards his room, both desperate to not wake Marlon. Somehow he remained asleep through the commotion.
When in his room, Clementine immediately gestured to the piano in the corner of his room, it took up the majority of his living space, standing as his prized possession. "Hey, it's Perry." The piano gleamed beneath the pieces of moonlight that found their way in through the crack in his curtain.
It was the first time Louis had noticed just how much space it soaked up in his room. It was also the first time both of them had felt a connection to an inanimate object. "I can't believe I said that to you in our first conversation." Who would have thought they would be where they are now when their first encounter was merely business?
"It wasn't as dorky as you thought it was," Her voice was hushed, dim like the streetlamp outside. "I haven't given my guitar a name yet." With a slow movement, she presses her index finger against the A key, bouncing away at the surprising loud noise.
"There's a rule in this place, no music at night," Louis lowered his head, implying that this was a rule he was prone to disobeying. "So..."
"So..."
Louis fumbled with the loose band of his flannel pants, trying to remember the French alphabet, the words to 'La Vie En Rose', how much money he had hiding away in his piggy bank. Anything to take his mind off the fact that a girl was in his room. His. Bedroom. This wasn't just any girl too, this was a girl he had a crush on. A girl who actively liked him back! "I'll...see you in the morning," It would have taken him an easy three strides to get out of his stuffy bedroom, but a small hand latched onto his arm halfway through his second step.
"You're going?" She didn't mean to sound so meek, desperate even. His exposed skin burned her fingertips in the best way possible, a feeling she wanted to remember.
He almost looked like a puppy being given an unfamiliar order; head lunged to the side, big inquisitive eyes. "I don't wanna impose-"
"It's your room, Louis. You're not imposing." She gently tugged on his arm, bringing the two closer to his double bed shoved against the far corner by the window. Clementine slid her legs in one by one, immediately finding comfort in the cotton-polyester.
Louis moved slower than her, making sure she had taken up her desired space before closing the blanket around them. "Goodnight, Clemster."
"Night Lou. Thank you." Her slurred voice almost had him melting. It was odd to see this relaxed side of her and not the stoic face she puts on every day. The last thing he saw before drifting away again was the ghost of a smile on her face, blessing him with simple yet sweet dreams, just like her.
-♥-
Was there a better feeling than waking up to no alarm?
Louis shifted amongst his blanket, blinking rapidly against the flakes of sunlight that greeted him through the curtain. His free arm stroked the other side of the bed, slowly caressing the empty space beside him. It was still slightly warm from her presence...her...her? Louis gripped the bedsheets with new-found adrenaline, his body sliding upright immediately.
"Clementine?" He called out. How did she slip away so quietly? Louis threw the sheets off his body, immediately freezing to the cold air hanging around. He reached for his dinosaur slippers, sliding them on one by one. His ears perked up when he heard giggles coming from the room next to his; the kitchen.
"Alright Lou, it's a brand new day." His voice was situated at its usual morning croak. A swift cup of tea with a spoonful of honey would fix that. He trudged into the bright kitchen where stains adorned every counter. A small breeze flew in through the open window and it carried itself along with the laughter of Clementine.
Marlon noticed Louis' presence first, then again Clem had her eyes shut tightly to repress her tears. "Morning dude, I was just telling Clem here how you lost that tooth."
His shoulders fell at having such an embarrassing secret revealed. "I was nine, cut me a little slack," Louis ignited the stovetop, choosing to focus on which flavour of tea to have. Peppermint or Apple Cinnamon? "Did he also tell you that it was his idea to climb that ridiculously tall tree in the first place?"
"No way," Marlon chewed up the rest of his toast before wiping the crumbs on his raggedy jeans. "You'll have to fight me another time cause I'm off to see Brody, my headache has gone so I can at least think properly."
Louis chucked two teaspoons of sugar into his yellow mug. "You sure you're feeling better?"
Marlon raised his hands in defence. "I'm fine." He tossed his winter coat over his should, beaming a smile full of pride. The power of a hot shower and NyQuil was stronger than he thought.
"Ah, no D at the end of fine this time. Carry on good sir." He waved his first mate out the door, nearly forgetting about the other presence lingering behind him. She made herself known by peeking over his shoulder, staring directly at the steaming kettle.
"I'm more of a coffee person myself."
Louis turned around in one fluid motion, if he was an ultimate chef, he would totally whip out some expensive cutlery and hors d'oeuvres (who needs breakfast foods). "May I interest you in some mediocre Peppermint tea instead?"
Clementine's smile somehow made the already sunlit room brighter. But soft what light through yonder window breaks... "No thanks."
"Damn, I would have given it to you on the house," He quickly turned off the cooktop just as the kettle began to screech. The hot water was quickly thrown into a very scratched travel mug as Louis mixed the little bag of leaves around. "Y'know, 'cause you're cute."
"I don't think that's how the exchange of goods and services works-"
"-Does now." Louis chucked the little spoon into the sink, the fresh smell of peppermint filled the small kitchen, even Clem had to admit it was appealing. They stood in silence as Louis sipped at his drink, playing off just how hot it really was.
Clementine peaked a glance at her watch, a gift from Lee for her sixteenth birthday. "I should be heading home, don't want AJ to worry."
"Your dad wouldn't be worried?"
"He hasn't called me yet, so I take that as a good sign. AJ always tries to protect me." Whenever Clem would awake from a nightmare AJ would be there at the ready, flashlight in hand to take down the monsters that threatened her.
"Let me walk you, it'll give me an excuse to get in my daily cardio," More like monthly cardio, but she doesn't need to know that. "I just gotta change my shoes, and pants, maybe my shirt too...gimme a minute to change my whole outfit." Louis bounded back to his room, eager to continue this already perfect morning.
Within minutes, Louis was bounding out of his room in an entirely different getup; grey hoodie, his favourite black jeans (his only black jeans really) and a navy blue beanie. Or as Marlon would have called it 'fucking hipster getup'. "Hippity hoppity let's get back to your property."
"Really? Hippity hoppity?"
"Let's just roll with it for now."
Clem wrapped her jacket around her shoulders before heading out into the new day. A very cold day already, already feeling the need to shove her hands into her pockets.
"Getting cold already?" Louis teased, despite also shoving his hands into his large pockets. What is it with men's clothing having bigger pockets? "That's just Jack Frost nipping at your nose."
"Jack Frost?"
"Y'know, like the fable? My brother loved those fairy tails and I loved reading them to him. There was Jack Frost, Snow White, Red Riding Hood and my personal favourite, The Little Mermaid."
"I always liked Aladdin," As the snowflakes fluttered onto her feet, Clem wondered about this small town she now called home. It was all a fresh start, to put all that happened in Savannah behind her. Never in her wildest dreams had she expected to find someone as charming, funny and kind as the boy whistling beside her. "What are you whistling?"
"Just a small tune I've been working on."
"Oh yeah? You write music?"
Louis shrugged, brushing off the fact that he had a whole box of unwritten music hidden beneath his bed. "Occasionally, I reckon this is gonna be my greatest piece yet."
"Really? What's it called?"
"I'm not sure yet. Maybe 'Clementine'. Y'know cause I like fruit...and I like you even more." He gently bumped her shoulder, his eyes locked onto his feet. Louis was a smart man and he knew that if he took one look into Clem's wide brown eyes he would melt quicker than the snow beneath his shoes.
Soon enough her house came into sight, seeing Lee’s snow-covered car in the driveway took a weight Clem hadn’t realised was on her shoulders. “Nice to know he made it back safe.” She skipped up the front steps and knocked with a little too much force.
It didn’t take long at all for the door to get pulled open rapidly. "Clem!" A small boy charged right at Clementine, bear tackling her leg. "You're back!"
She pushed him off her leg and kneeled down to his height, pulling him into a proper hug. "Hey AJ, were you okay last night?"
Louis' brain began to tick over. 'AJ...oh shit the little brother.'
AJ squeezed the life out of his big sister. "I did what you said, kept the lights on and didn't open the doors for anyone."
"Not even me," Lee hovered in the doorway to the kitchen, a dish towel flung over his shoulder. "Had to convince him that I was indeed the man I claimed to be."
Clementine giggled, letting AJ run back to his colouring book. "Sounds rough," She fully embraced the tall man before her, letting any loose thoughts about her nightmare wash away. "Hey, Lee."
"Hey there Sweetpea, you doing good?" His voice was soft, nothing compared to the booming roar that Louis' father used to speak with.
"I am," Her eyes glanced between Lee and Louis, wondering which of the two was more curious to know the other. "Lee, this is Louis. He works at the music shop across the street."
"So you're the one who keeps her out longer than her scheduled lunch break?"
Louis jolted out of his fake confidence. He hadn't been keeping her time that much...had he? "Uhh-sorry about that. She makes for good company."
Lee clasped Louis' shoulder. "You and I can agree on that. Name's Lee, nice to meet you, Louis."
“It’s nice to meet you too, sir.” He had never met a potential girlfriends parent before, you actually need to have a girlfriend for that. It was more nerve-wracking than performing on stage.
“C’mon Lou, I wanna show you something,” Clem helped to subside the panic clearly growing on the poor boys face. Was this all too much for him? Meeting her family? “You don’t have to stay, really. If you got places to go-”
“No, no it’s fine! They seem real nice.” Louis couldn’t pinpoint the last time he was in a loving home; he was simply raised in a house, devoid of the attributes that strengthen a home and a family.
Clem didn’t dare to poke around in his private thoughts this time, if he wanted to talk about it more he would, instead she lead him up the stairs to the last door down the hall. A couple of stickers were peeling off from around the door handle. “AJ stuck those on when he was four, didn’t have the heart to remove them.”
There were no visible stickers inside the room, but instead an absolute explosion of Clementine’s personality. Purple walls with a wide array of photos, old and new, friends and family. Even some messy drawings, clearly done by AJ.
“I didn’t bring you here to show you the photos,” Her comment broke Louis out of his deep curiosity and instead got him looking at the corner by the window, where Clem was leaning against, a cedar guitar at her feet.
"Hey! It's the guitar I sold you!" Louis frantically pointed at the familiar guitar resting beside her bed, shining beneath the fresh sun.
Clem always smiled at the memory, albeit an awkward first introduction. "I haven't given it a name yet, what would you suggest?"
Louis hummed it over, his fingers stroking an invisible beard. "I reckon we shall name her...Ginny! Ginny the guitar!"
Clementine stroked the neck of the guitar. "I like it. Ginny and Perry will have to get together sometime for a mashup."
"Ohmigosh can I name their band?" Louis clapped his hands together as so many silly names flew through his head. "They're gonna take on the world!"
"Okay calm down cowboy, one step at a time." Just as Clem flopped down onto her bed, soft yellow bedsheets welcoming her home. AJ zoomed into the room, jumping on the pillow beside her head.
"Lee says we can finish putting up the decorations for the tree!"
So much for hanging out with Louis. Repressing a sigh, she flung herself back to her feet. "Alrighty kiddo. Louis, you're strong, could you help Lee carry out the last couple boxes from the garage?" If she was going down, she was gonna take the last man standing with her.
"You're roping me into this? Luckily I'm very skilled in the art of decorating." He stood proudly, flexing whatever muscle he had on his arms, despite not having put up a single Christmas decoration in his own apartment yet.
AJ left the room somehow quicker than he had entered, calling out for Lee to "get the boxes!"
Clem slowly stretched out her back, her rough night of sleeping beginning to catch up on her. "Sorry about that, I know you probably didn't come over with this in mind."
Louis waved his hand at her, brushing off the comment. "Don't worry about it, it could be nice to decorate. My family wasn't super big on it, a couple of odd decor items here and there. Could be fun to go all out." Putting up the tinsel was his favourite part, only because it was his brothers' favourite decor item.
"C'mon slowpokes, these decorations don't put themselves up!" This time it was Lee calling them from downstairs.
"We better go or we won't hear the end of it," The duo bounced down the stairs, both having to repress a laugh at AJ, who had already gotten himself tangled in a long rope of red tinsel. "Slow down kiddo, before you break something." Clem began to seek out the source of the knot, whereas Louis headed to the garage.
Be cool dude, don't say dumb shit that could get you thrown out.
The garage was a crypt of boxes, filled to the brim with furniture that hadn't been given a place yet. ‘KITCHEN’, ‘FRAGILE’, ‘MORE KITCHEN’.
Louis pushed past some of the boxes, finding where the Christmas ones were hiding. "Where did you move from again?" If he was good at anything, it was talking.
Lee had already begun to lift one small box onto his shoulder. "Savannah. I was originally a Macon boy myself. After my marriage fell apart, I thought a change was what I needed."
Louis pulled apart a box labelled ‘TINSEL’. "You were married?"
"Yup, right as I got my teaching degree. I wanted a family, she wanted to travel. I guess she was right, I don’t use my degree anymore. What about you Louis? You got family?"
Louis tried to think of an answer that wouldn’t sound so completely disheartening. "I do, we’re not as close as what you, Clem and AJ are though."
"Oh?"
"I kinda got kicked out,"
"Oh."
Great. Him and his big mouth. "It wasn't anything bad! There was just a...disagreement that my father couldn't move on from. I have a little brother too, he's a couple years older than AJ." The only positive of his family life.
"How's he doing?"
His brief silence gave Lee an unsettling answer. "I, uh...I haven't seen him for a while. Not since I left home."
"I'm sorry, that would be difficult." Just like Clem, Lee didn’t sound patronizing. Some only saw Louis as a broken man, rejected by his family. As much as it pained Louis to wonder, it seemed as if Lee knew exactly what that feeling was.
"I mean, it's not like I haven't tried. Things with my parents aren't that smooth." That was putting it mildly. His father threw some choice words when Louis took that final step out of his house. He didn't even look back.
Lee shifted the box on his shoulder, gaining a smoother grip on the cardboard and his very own thoughts. "Lemme tell you a story. After I got divorced, my parents and I had a falling out. My wife was...cheating on me and I didn't take it very well. I left before I could do anything crazy. I kept in touch with my brother for a while but then he..." Lee shook the words from his head. "People say we don't get to pick our family, but that's bullshit. I picked Clem, all those years ago I got her. Then AJ, although I wish he didn't have to lose his parents."
"Clem mentioned it the other night."
"As much as I miss my parents, I would do it all again for those two. You got a family out there Louis, sometimes it just takes a while for us to find it."
The silence wasn’t awkward, for both men connected on a personal level. Lee had lived that life, Louis was just getting over it. No new words were needed. They knew.
"C'mon guys, AJ wants to decorate the tree!" Clem called from the living room, breaking the peace. A smaller voice echoed her words, further pushing the two men to work faster.
Lee gently rolled his eyes at their eagerness. “Could you grab that box of tinsel over there? That should be the last of it,” Lee nodded to a dusty box furthest away from the other decor items before heading back into the living room.
Louis grunted a little beneath the weight of the boxes. “Probably should have gone to the gym with Mitch.” He somehow got the boxes back inside, trying to not seem as breathless as he was.
Lee was the first to open a box, pulling out a small reindeer ornament. "So Louis, Clem mentioned to me that you work in the music store across the street. You play anything?"
Louis feigned the best heart eyes he could. "My pride and glory is my fifteen thousand dollar Perzina piano. Takes up the majority of space in my room but worth it."
Clementine almost let the delicate bauble in her hands slip to the ground. "Did you just say...fifteen...thousand dollars? How...how did you get that?"
Louis began unpacking the box with AJ, finding some golden lights inside. "My parents got it for me when I was a kid, they wanted me to learn only on the best." He was unbothered by Clem's garbled gasps. A connoisseur of fine music himself, he was unphased with the number he just said.
Clementine was desperately trying to coax more information out of him. "Why did you take it with you? How would you even get it out of your house? That thing is huge!"
"It's one-hundred per cent German hand-made! I wasn't about to leave that at my parents' house!"
"I can't believe you gave me crap for the six-hundred dollar spoons! You could buy two sets of those spoons and still have some cash leftover." Clementine stood with her hands on her hips, the task of decorating now long gone from her mind.
Louis rolled his eyes so far back they started to hurt a little. "My piano has a floating soundboard, a reverse-crown soundboard and a super-stretched bass bridge. All your spoons have is a ringing noise. Oh and the fact that they don't tarnish. Whoopee."
"I don't see your piano being held in the National Museum of American History."
It had somehow become a battle of wits, to see who could know the most about their respected work trade. AJ paid them no mind, a spoon is a spoon who cares? Whereas Lee hid his smile, trying to not burst out laughing at how ridiculous the two sounded. Yet it was clear, they held a close passion for their work.
He tried oh so hard not to laugh, but a small croaked chuckle burst from Lee, gaining the attention of the two bickering adults. “Sorry, you both just seem to know so much about your work...maybe you two can open your own store someday," Lee slyly left the room, leaving Clementine and Louis to linger on that thought.
Louis chucked on the last of the tinsel, thinking of a small corner store where he and Clem could sell all their hearts desired. A historian and a musician. "You know what, I'd like that very much."

Day 5 – In the midst of despair
April felt her lungs burn with exhaustion as she pushed her trained legs to the limit. She took quick, short strides to run as fast as she possibly could - she really wanted to get out of the danger zone. Breathing was hard enough as it was, the tight clinging gas mask making her ragged hiccups of air even more difficult.
The redhead felt a sharp sting in her side as her supposedly healed wound made itself known.
Great, just great.
How long had she been stuck in the base thanks to her injured ribs? Three, almost four weeks? For someone as restless as her, this was an eternity. She knew, the injury was not to be taken lightly, but April wasn’t the wee little girl she had once been. She had grown strong and confident. So when she finally got the reluctant okay from the General to go into action again - although it was just a simple patrol in one of the safest areas - she was not going to look the gift horse in the mouth.
But her luck was once again on vacation somewhere far away because today of all times a freaking nest had to drop, even though there had not been any signs of these forsaken things in this particular area for over three years. She really hated how karma loved to play with her.
“Captain, hurry up!”
Behind a wall of upturned and wrecked cars, April saw the head of her Lieutenant pop out as he called to her. He didn’t need to tell her twice. Pushing her legs just a bit more, she flung herself over the barricade, attempting a rather sad excuse of a roll when she landed on the other side. When she finally came to a stop on her back, she ripped off her protective goggles and mask. Finally being able to breathe freely, she took big gulps of air, much to the protest of her sore side.
She almost didn’t notice her second-in-command come to her side and kneel down beside her heavily breathing form.
“Captain, I know how much you longed to get outta base and all, and how you love playing hero, but one of these days you’re gonna gimme a heart attack!”
April squinted at her subordinate while listening to his worried nagging. She knew she always put him through a lot with her daredevilry, but she was the Captain, it was just as much her duty and responsibility to lead her team as much as it was to look out for them. Her Lieutenant could lecture her as much as he wanted, when danger arose, she was the first to jump into it and the last to retreat - she was never leaving any of her women and men behind.
The redhead let her eyes fall closed as she tried to even her breathing.
“Captain?”
April lightly raised her hand to signal him to be silent and concentrated on calming herself. She tried recalling the meditation techniques she had learned long ago, back in a time when she was no soldier but a proud kunoichi. She might not be a ninja anymore, but the training had nonetheless helped her become the strong team leader she was now.
A picture appeared in her mind. The memory of a dojo with a large tree in the midst of it, the warm rays of the sunlight that came from the surface illuminating the room in a soft light. April saw herself sitting in front of a rather particular creature, an old rat draped in red Japanese clothing. However, the redhead was not going to muse over fond memories but rather concentrate on the lesson she was recalling. Finding her center, she already felt her breath slow down and her heart stop hammering out of her chest. Now taking slower, deeper gulps of air, she breathed in a few times more before swinging herself upright.
Her Lieutenant jerked back a bit and the action caused the rest of her team to lay their focus on her. She gave them all quick once overs. When noting that nobody was hurt badly, she put her attention back to the danger zone behind their vehicle barricade.
Looking over the sea of broken cars and stray clunks of what had once been houses and their walls, April gazed to the horizon.
Good, none of these freaking beasts seem to have come that far yet. Counting the few we killed already, there can’t be much more considering the small size of the nest. If we set up some traps, we’re gonna make it back to base no problem.
April let an inaudible sigh of relief past her lips. She really had been on edge when the nest dropped right above them but she was not letting her soldiers see her falter. The redhead knew she could trust all members of her team with her life, but none the less, as Captain she could not show any sign of weakness. Especially not when half of her men were twice her age.
April focused a bit longer on the wrecked street in front of her to make sure there really was nothing hiding, when she felt her mind wander again. She knew rule one on the battlefield was to always be alert, but she could not help it when she slipped for a split of a second.
Had anybody told her ten years ago that the world would come to be at the mercy of carnivorous, gigantic, triop-like alien monsters, she would have laughed in their face. Not because it sounded too absurd to believe, but because she would have told them that she had faced greater threats before. She had already been to a journey through the stars, had stopped the annihilation of Earth by dinosaurs from space and had even found out she was part alien too. Heck, she would have actually bragged about how she had also dealt with thugs, mutants, a ninja master on his quest for revenge, and hell, even freaking demons from the underworld. But young April would not have had the time to prepare for any of what was about to happen - no one would.
That is why they were here. Ten years in the future, the remains of humankind were now fighting back as fiercely as they could.
The redhead blinked a few times. The moment had stretched out for a while now and she really had to put her plan into action before the damn beasts could catch up. April turned to her team, readying her orders while scanning each face individually.
“Okay team, the Crawlers seem to be taking their sweet time, so let’s get ready—!”
She stopped short as she flew her eyes over the group again.
Oh no.
“Guys, where are Bruce and Ron?”
As if on cue, the walky-talky on the chest piece of her armor vest crackled to life.
“..Cap…Cap-..tain!”
April pressed the button on the side of the device and barked into the speaker.
“Ron, what the hell?! Where are you guys?”
“Capta-..in! We got separated when …est came down. We-…trouble! T…nk!”
The redhead clenched her teeth at the static. Electronics never worked well in the strange atmosphere of a freshly dropped nest and Ron’s gasping tone didn’t simplify things. Judging by the breathless way he spoke, and the faint, cut-off sounds of his boots grinding into the ground, he had to be running.
“RON! I can’t understand you, the connection’s too bad. Repeat that!”
“R….RUN, there’s a t-….ming. The-…. TANK!”
April felt her blood run cold. A Tank?! How the hell did that thing fit into such a small nest? They’re almost four times the size of a Crawler!
The redhead locked her gaze on her team, she could already see the panic in her Lieutenant’s eyes. She knew. She knew they couldn’t rush in to get the other two out of there, they did not have the firepower, after all, this had been supposed to be just a regular patrol. But…
April shot her gaze back to the horizon.
I can’t just leave them out there to die!
That’s when she saw two silhouettes emerge on the far end of the street. Even from this distance she could see Bruce clenching his arm but booking it with just as much energy as Ron was. They hadn’t come far when an enormous creature shot from the side street, the momentum carrying it into the wall of the opposite block of buildings. That however bought them only a precious few seconds. Not even fazed by the impact, the monster was on the chase again.
April felt a chill run down her spine when she took in the alien. Like the much smaller Crawlers, the monster looked like a triop, but this one seemed to be a bit further ahead on the evolutionary line, even if it looked like something had gone horribly wrong in the process. The monster sprouted three pairs of insect-like legs as thick as the stem of a tree, and its back plate was more of a cocoon now than a shell. This, however, wasn’t the part that gave the Tank its name - well, at least not the only part. The other horrifying ‘feature’ of the monster was the two sections of its body where it looked like wings might come out, but that was not their purpose. When opened, the inside of its shell was revealed and two fleshy canon-like openings were waiting there, ready to shoot acid in an explosive manner, hence the name Tank.
April’s eyes widened when she noticed that part of its shell was missing. She ground her teeth. Its weak spot was exposed, just like that, and they could not even exploit that with their limited weaponry right now! Her eyes switched back to the two team members still running for their lives as an idea struck her. Tanks were slow thinkers and had bad reaction time. If she could get her team in a good position, they could still take the thing down before it could even switch its focus from Bruce and Ron to them. A few well placed shots would do the trick. April spun around and explained her strategy shortly to her soldiers.
“—and anyways, with that thing so close, we couldn’t bail anyways.”
Those last words were directed at her second-in-command’s disagreeing face, but even he nodded curtly once he had assessed the situation. April shouted her orders and her team moved. She pressed the speaker button of her walky-talky as she ran in front of the group.
“Ron, listen, we’re gonna take that beast down, just keep running and we will ambush it!”
The redhead didn’t even wait for an answer as she and her team pushed forward. They were going to bring that damn Tank down!
But again, karma had other plans for her.
As they finally got closer and almost got a perfect angle on the monster, several screeches pierced the air. April barely had time to react as Crawlers seemed to appear out of nowhere.
What the—?! What?! HOW??!
April was cursing up a storm in her head as she shouted orders to her soldiers while dodging the aggressive triops. She was really starting to think that the universe wanted to fuck with her because no way could a freaking TANK and so many Crawlers fit into that itty bitty nest that had come down.
Distracted by her raging thoughts, she almost did not notice one of the triops jumping at her. With a roll she flung herself out of its way, only to come to a halt right under the Tank. April already knew she was not fast enough to get out of the way. That monster was going to impale her with its razor sharp leg.
It was strange. This was not the first time April had looked death in the eye with such certainty. No, it was actually, what, about the sixth time already? However, this feeling was new. The first two times, she had been terrified and cried, the other times she was either overcome with sadness, dread, or an eerie calm. This time she was just so done with everything. After weeks of being confined to her quarters, this was how karma wanted to fuck her up?
She came out here to have a good time and she seriously felt so attacked right now.
But as if her luck had finally come home from its way too long vacation, instead of being impaled, the leg that almost pierced her was blown out of the way by a little white bomb. April could only hear the creature scream as purple smoke clouded her sight.
Smoke that seemed too familiar.
Dumbfounded, the redhead watched as a figure emerged from the shadows, flinging metal stars, shuriken, at the Crawlers. The shurikens hit them with terrifying precision, right in the narrow crooks between their back panzer, killing them in an instant. One of the creatures fell next to April and her eyes widened at the familiar floral symbol engraved into the weapon.
Snapping her attention back to her rescuer, she watched them fling some more bombs at the Tank, then heaving their body up the broken wall of a building. While the alien squealed in alert, the figure took a few steps back on the roof before breaking into a sprint. They pushed themselves high in the air, then produced a long stick, a bō staff, from their back. With a practiced spin, a blade popped out of the staff and with gravity pulling the attacker down again, they dove the sword into the weak parts of the beast. The Tank screeched loudly before finally dropping dead.
April could not care less about the alien right now, or anything else besides the figure rising from their crouch. Her gaze followed the movement, taking in the green skin, the three toes and fingers and the unmistakeable shell. Finally, her eyes landed on the face, which was obscured by a mask she had last seen before they fought against New York’s invasion together. But April didn’t care, she didn’t have to see his face to know it was him. She could sense it, she could sense who he was. She felt her own feelings mirrored by him. The awe and relief she felt, the happiness, the surprise laced with sadness, and first and foremost, the fear. His fear, however, wasn’t the same she felt. She was scared he would leave, and he was scared to stay. April felt her stomach drop as he turned away.
NO! Don’t! I’m not going to lose you so quickly again!
April took a few fast steps forward and hollered without hiding her desperation.
“WAIT!”
The other stopped short and she could feel the fear and hesitation roll off him. She was going to use that reluctance to her advantage.
“Please, wait!”
Don’t go.
“Don’t leave, please.”
Don’t leave me.
April watched him as he turned around. His mask was directed at her but briefly shifted to look at something behind her. She had already noticed that her team had appeared, she could quietly hear their turbulent thoughts in the back of her head, but she wasn’t going to mind them just yet. With short hand signs she signaled them to stand down.
The redhead heard the footsteps of her soldiers as they backed off a bit. When finally focusing his gaze on April again, she also took a small step back as to give the other room.
“Please.”
Her words had significantly lost power, but she knew she did not have to push her voice, he always heard her.
“Please don’t go.”
Please stay with me.
“Please, Donnie.”
When she finally uttered his name, he flinched. April felt his panic rise but, thankfully, also his longing. She knew he wanted to be back by her side - after all, she wanted him back as well. It had been too long.
When he finally moved, it was her turn to freeze. At first she thought he was going to leave, but he slowly and steadily lowered himself from the monster and took some steps forward. Now they stood only an arm’s length from each other, just gazing. April could barely see his eyes through the holes of the broken mask, but all she needed was a glimpse of the auburn orbs she had feared she would never see again.
That was when she broke. Before she even realized it and before Donnie could even react, she had flung herself at him. Her arms tangled around his hood covered neck and she felt herself cry. She didn’t care if her team saw her break down like that in front of them, she didn’t care if things weren’t as they had been years ago and she and Donatello might no longer be the same as back then. She only knew he was here, right in front of her, right here in her arms.
She could sense the panic resurface inside of him as his hands cautiously made their way to her shoulders. In response, she just gripped him harder and whimpered a miserable ‘no’. His arms slacked and eventually rested on the small of her back. April let a watery laugh slip out as she nuzzled into the fabric around his neck.
She would never let him leave again, never. April never thought that Donatello and his brothers had died out there, but after ten agonizingly long years, doubt and fear started clogging her mind, like a dark shadow slowly draping over the slimmer of belief she still hold onto. But now, she could feel her heart light up again.
In the midst of despair, she had found her hope.
And she was never going to let it go again.
*fidget fidget* Um, yeha, I’m kinda nervous about this one, cos it’s kinda my baby - that’s also why it’s probably the longest of the oneshots. This is an AU I created myself and I like to call the Apocalypse Au or sht like that. It had many inspirations, one of them being for example Pacific Rim or certain War themed fanfics, This AUs grittier and more focused on the war/surviving aspect and coping with change. I really hope ya like it! ><

Rajasaurus narmadensis
By Ripley Cook
Etymology: King Reptile
First Described By: Wilson et al., 2003
Classification: Dinosauromorpha, Dinosauriformes, Dracohors, Dinosauria, Saurischia, Eusaurischia, Theropoda, Neotheropoda, Averostra, Ceratosauria, Neoceratosauria, Abelisauroidea, Abelisauridae, Majungasaurinae
Status: Extinct
Time and Place: Between 70 and 66 million years ago, in the Maastrichtian of the Late Cretaceous
Rajasaurus is known from the Lameta Formation of Gujarat, India
Physical Description: Rajasaurus was an Abelisaur - so, a kind of theropod with a long body, almost nonexistent arms, and thick, powerful legs. Rajasaurus in particular differed from other Abelisaurs in having particularly short legs, making it even more… sausage-like… in appearance than even its close relatives. It had a boxy head and thick neck, which would allow it to have a very powerful bite and strength in the neck to hold down prey. It had a strong sense of smell, as well, to help it to find prey from farther away - allowing it to set up an ambush for said prey when it got too close. It had horns on its forehead, made of bone from the nose, which was probably not extended by skin. It was also a lot shorter than other Abelisaurids - which means that it was only about 7 or so meters long, and maybe only two meters tall, if that. It really wouldn’t have stood much taller than an adult man. Rajasaurus had an especially short neck, which may have allowed it to grab onto prey even tighter than other Abelisaurids. It had very short, four-fingered hands, with claws on the first three of them. Though the legs of Rajasaurus are short, it did have very robust, thick toes, giving it more support on the ground. As an Abelisaurid, Rajasaurus was covered in scales all over its body, with potentially round bumpy bits of bone (osteoderms) interspersed among the scales.
By Paleocolour, CC BY-SA 3.0
Diet: As a large Abelisaurid, Rajasaurus would have primarily fed upon larger herbivores, such as Titanosaurs.
Behavior: Abelisaurs were not the fastest animals - after all, if they ran too quicky, they wouldn’t have been very balanced - but what they were extremely agile turners. Being able to turn very quickly allowed them to be efficient ambush predators. Rajasaurus would have waited for prey to appear, and then charged - seemingly out of nowhere, by turning rapidly towards the prey - and then grabbing down onto the struggling prey with its strong, boxy jaws. Though Rajasaurus had small arms and hands, it traded those off for having a stronger neck - to better hold the prey steady with. Then, the stress would weaken the animal, along with blood loss. The horns on the head of Rajasaurus were probably for display and interaction between members of the species, with fights occurring to argue over carcasses or for mates via head-butting or neck-bashing. The horns would have also packed quite a bit of a cutting edge in these fights. It’s also possible that bright colors could have been used on the horns to display. While it doesn’t seem likely that Rajasaurus was particularly social, it did probably take care of its young, and may have formed small family groups while they grew up, in order to protect the young from the many other predators around.

Ecosystem: The Lameta Formation is a fascinating Late Cretaceous environment due to the fact that it was a grassland! Grasses evolved sometime in the Cretaceous period. While they did not spread rapidly until the Cenozoic, they did seem to be present in quite a few areas during the Cretaceous (to the point of some hadrosaur relatives evolving to eat them). India at the time was an isolated island, so grasses were able to thrive and diversify more there than in other locations where they did not gain as immediate of a foothold. There was a large amount of volcanic activity nearby, which probably added to its extensive biodiversity (before it made many of the animals present go extinct, via the explosion of the Deccan Traps). It was a lush environment filled with grasses resembling modern rice, flowers, algae, and ferns. This was an environment filled with many lakes, surrounded by extensive mud that lead to its fossil preservation. Rajasaurus was certainly not the only dinosaur of this environment, either! There were even other Abelisaurids - Indosaurus, Indosuchus, Rahiolisaurus, Lametasaurus, and their close relatives the (potentially piscivorous) Noasaurids such as Ornithomimoides, Laevisuchus, and Dryptosauroides. There were also other theropods, probably also Ceratosaurs - Jubbulpuria, Coeluroides, and Orthogoniosaurus. With all of these predators and fishermen, it makes sense that there were a lot of large herbivores for them to feed upon! And there seem to be at least three different kinds of titanosaurs there - Titanosaurus, a dubiously known one; Jainosaurus, a slightly better known one; and Isisaurus, the best known one that seems to be one of the main features of the environment. There was also potentially an ankylosaur - Brachypodosaurus! As for non-dinosaurs, there were large snakes, Sanajeh and Madtsoia; a variety of turtles; and some Dyrosaurid crocodylomorphs!

Other: Rajasaurus was one of the Majungasaurines, which had longer holes in their snouts in front of their eyes than their close relatives the Carnotaurines - aka, they had lighter skulls - and having small crests widening the front of their heads; and, in general, longer snouts. This group of Abelisuarids underwent extensive island hopping, reaching places like India via rafting and other journeys across the ocean. Rajasaurus, being one of them, had ancestors that underwent such a journey!

Changyuraptor yangi
By Scott Reid
Etymology: Long Feathered Robber
First Described By: Han et al., 2014
Classification: Dinosauromorpha, Dinosauriformes, Dracohors, Dinosauria, Saurischia, Eusaurischia, Theropoda, Neotheropoda, Averostra, Tetanurae, Orionides, Avetheropoda, Coelurosauria, Tyrannoraptora, Maniraptoromorpha, Maniraptoriformes, Maniraptora, Pennaraptora, Paraves, Eumaniraptora, Dromaeosauridae, Microraptoria
Status: Extinct
Time and Place: About 124.4 million years ago, in the Aptian of the Early Cretaceous
Changyuraptor is known from the Dawangzhangzi Bed of the Yixian Formation
Physical Description: Changyuraptor was a medium sized dinosaur, about 1.2 meters long - something like a modern turkey in terms of weight. It was covered from head to toe in feathers, including full wings on its arms, a large tail fan, and wings on its legs. It had a small, pointy head and long tail, while its body was fairly stocky. It also had sharp claws on its hands and sickle claws on its feet, like other raptor-dinosaurs. It’s tail was so long and feathered - with feathers reaching up to 30 centimeters in length and being the largest feathers known in a non-avian dinosaur - it would have allowed for softer landings for Changyuraptor. In short, it was probably the largest and fluffiest four-winged dinosaur known.
Diet: Changyuraptor would have primarily fed upon small animals like mammals, lizards, and amphibians.

Behavior: Like Microraptor, Changyuraptor was probably capable of flight, making it one of the largest flying dinosaurs of the Mesozoic Era - with very few birds ever growing larger than it. It wouldn’t have been a particularly good flier though, only about as well as a chicken, taking off clumsily from the ground to go from area to area. It didn’t have enough strength in the chest and wing muscles to do much more than this, though it’s possible the hindlimb feathers would have allowed for some maneuvering in the air. It then could pounce on its prey, using its sickle claw to hold onto struggling animals before eating them.
More importantly; the wings, tail fan, and leg wings would have all been good display structures for Changyuraptor, which would have used them to communicate with other members of the species. These feathers would have signaled anger, a desire to mate, or danger, as feathers today are used by birds. It’s probable, then, that at least some fancy coloration may have been present on Changyuraptor to aid in the communication. Changyuraptor would have been a very active animal and most likely would have taken care of its young. In fact, it may have used its variety of wings and fans to help brood the nest.
Ecosystem: Changyuraptor lived in the Yixian Formation, a highly diverse ecosystem showcasing the evolution of birdie dinosaurs - like Changyuraptor - at the beginning of the Cretaceous period. A temperate, seasonal, and humid climate, it was much like the modern day northwestern Pacific Coast, though it would have seen snow on a regular basis, as well as notable dry seasons. It was a diverse coniferous forest, with a variety of flowering plants, ferns, horsetails, ginkgoes, cycads, seed ferns, and many others. Changyuraptor would have probably spent most of its time in the trees as well as on the ground, given its flight ability. There were a lot of freshwater lakes, and abundant volcanic eruptions.
By Ripley Cook
Changyuraptor lived along so many other kinds of dinosaurs, it’s almost impossible to list them all. There were ankylosaurs like Liaoningosaurus and ornithopods like Bolong and Jinzhousaurus. There was the larger Compsognathid Sinosauropteryx, as well as many raptors in addition to Changyuraptor like the large Zhenyuanlong, Sinornithosaurus, and Tianyuraptor. There was also the Troodontid Jianianhualong, the seed eating protobird Jeholornis, smaller protobirds like Confuciusornis and Zhongornis, and the Anchiornithid Yixianosaurus. Opposite birds were there too like Dalingheornis and Shanweiniao, as well as near-birds like Archaeorhynchus, Eogranivora, Yanornis, Hongshanornis, and Longicrusavis. Non-dinosaurs like fish, amphibians, and lizards were also there; they along with mammals like Akidolestes, Sinobaatar, Sinodelphys, Chaoyangodens, and Eomaia would have been the primary prey of Changyuraptor. There were also Choristoderes like Hyphalosaurus and Monjurosuchus, as well as pterosaurs like Cathayopterus and Ningchengopterus. In short, a fascinating snapshot of Early Cretaceous life.
Other: Changyuraptor was closely related to - and preceded - Microraptor, one of the best known feathered dinosaurs; though we don’t know if it would have been colored like Microraptor, it’s possible it may have also had iridescent feathers like its later relative.
