(according to the "Counselor" of Spades, Duncan Ashe)

A new variation of steam-powered engine powered by a combination of hydroelectric and solar energy. (This would be tested successfully both on the royal zepplin and to power the entire palace and its surrounding buildings, cutting the overall cost of energy production in the Country of Spades by a good twenty percent.)

Several new vaccines, many of which adapted into oral supplements so as to make it easier to vaccinate small children. (Jacob specifically wanted to make something that people who are afraid of needles would be able to take safely, as his little sister Carewyn got very teary as a toddler, when getting her first shots.)

Mecha suits specifically designed to protect coal miners in treacherous underground conditions. (This idea would sadly be "co-opted" by the Tyrant of Spades Patricia Rakepick and repurposed into weapons of war. Fortunately the Joker called the "Escape Artist" destroyed every last one of them before they could be used to attack other parts of Cinderhaven.)

"We could just lock old Madam Ace in her office for a night. Then maybe you could force the army to cut their spending." (Sadly this idea, however tempting and amusing it might've been, was one Duncan couldn't go along with.)

A close-to-unbreakable puzzle lock, perfect for small drawers or boxes. (Jacob put this on Duncan's desk as a belated birthday gift, after he suspected Rakepick was sending spies around to try to rifle through his papers. The Spades technological expert took it upon himself to take out ten different books on locking mechanism and even consult with a locksmith for two weeks when constructing it, and it's thanks to this undertaking that Jacob became very, very proficient at picking locks himself.)

A record player that could be powered through pressing a pedal, rather than being plugged in with electricity. (Jacob put this on the desk in his workshop so that he could play music with his foot, while working on other projects. Duncan actually gifted Jacob several records to play on it, including Sitting on Top of the World, which is one of his favorite songs.)

"Let me come with you, Ashe. Rakepick's stooges will think twice about messing with you, if I'm there." (They didn't, at first. Fortunately Jacob ended up shutting up one particularly mouthy bloke, after he had the audacity to suggest Duncan only ever tapped people for positions at court if he was sleeping with them. Clearly a mean-spirited, untrue dig at his BFF Coby and both obvious and oblivious OTL Jacob. Jacob punched the guy so hard in the face that he nursed a bruised jaw for a solid three weeks. After that, no one dared say a single bad word about Duncan in Jacob's earshot.)

A prototype of a dirigible shaped like a dragon, powered by both wind and hydroelectric power, which uses giant wings to steer. (This also was eyed by Rakepick as something that she could modify into a weapon of war. Fortunately none of her subordinates were sharp enough to figure out how to give such an "air dragon" the ability to breathe fire without damaging the modified prototypes.)

A set of sparkling silver cuff links that, when the sides are squeezed, expanded into very sharp hatpins. (Inspired by the hatpins women sometimes wore in their hats for self-defense, Jacob made these as yet another birthday gift for Duncan, with the idea of them being helpful for self-defense. Duncan personally found them a little gaudy, but wore them anyway.)

"Come on, Ashe...you sing the next line!" (The night that Jacob finally encouraged Duncan to come over to the Cromwell house for dinner, he encouraged Duncan to sing along with him and Carewyn the way they always did, whenever they rode the trolley home together. Duncan actually did hold his own incredibly well alongside the two trained singers, and soon he, Carewyn, and Jacob were all singing together. It was one of the few times in Duncan's life -- alongside his times with Veruca and Coby -- that Duncan felt the way he imagined other people felt, with their families.)

There’s no going back. (I know, Lestat can be very forgiving) But even centuries of living can’t change or annul that deep hurt.

But Lestat, monster that he is, is almost a sweetheart in that regard and I know we’re going to see it, but Louis needs to step up to the plate-. (having read the books I know he eventually does)

All of this to say , THAT is the moment I want to see. And that is when I’ll cry my eyes out in relief. Once again, I know we’ll get there but, gosh, sometimes I just want to slap Louis and say, “Snap out of I!” and I’ve never hit anyone in my life. That’s how great Jacob is doing his job and that’s how annoying Louis can be to evoke such feelings. No wonder Jacob asked people not to hate Louis. Jacob is doing such a great jog that whoa, it’s difficult not to be annoyed🙂

And yes - it had to break Lestat's heart to hear that. And I firmly believe that this is part of what sent him spiraling, though not all of course. But the pain of knowing the betrayal, before it happens? To wait for it? Stifling pain.

I think that is why "murder night" was almost a relief, finally. It happened, the dice were rolling, and with it came acceptance.

Louis says it in s1, but time offers perspective, and when Louis and Lestat will meet again properly - not at the trial I mean - then they both will have had time to reflect, to digest. To change, just a bit.

I mean, that is what happens with Lestat in the books, too, doesn't it. And Louis. They both get the time to let the feeling pass... and return to the longing for the other.

We, as mortals, usually do not have this extra time. We do not have 50 to 70 years we can sit back and just wallow in the feeling of betrayal, until it's diluted enough for us to move on from it.

Some people may be able to do it faster.

But I think it speaks for itself that even Lestat wasn't able to do it faster. I mean... we'll see it how they spin it at the trial, but even later, much later, there is still a certain pettiness between them, a certain grudge, that exists.

And in the show... I think one cannot quite say if the Lestat reaching out to Louis there via Armand (in 2x05) has already stomached the betrayal. Because it is one thing to have an acute point of worry, which this is, and another to forgive the other when they're back whole and safe and sound.

And so I think that... the decades apart is what offers them perspective. And forgiveness. Just like in the book.

And I think Anne was painfully aware when she wrote it like this. I'm not sure "we" could forgive like that. But... they, other than we do, have the time.

The Jenkins Episode. LOVE IT.

Full disclosure: I am a lifelong DnD nerd. I started with 3.5 back in the 90s. I am this label, this label is me.

It's kind of sad that Dolores gives the cats a sunny upstairs room and Jeff lives in the basement.

...now that I think about it, why does the woman have like 12 cats in one room, that's gotta suck for the cats and everyone involved.

Especially if Desi has pink-eye and Otto needs suppositories. Ew!

I love how the only inaccurate thing about the DnD nerds first scene is that they're rolling the dice rather haphazardly. Jenkins throws a d20 and a d12 (I think) at the same time...different sided dice throws are not a thing. Multiples of the same kind of dice, yes, especially to calculate the damage of a hit.

And Jenkins tosses the dice AT the figures on the map/table. Yeah, no. A dice tower would probably be employed with that small a table, but I get how that would be less visually exciting/take up too much screen time.

The DnD nerds were DEFINITELY in on Jeff's switcheroo plan. We hear them talking about it when Jenkins comes down the stairs. They were totally expecting a different person inside Jeff. The way they set Jenkins up to reveal himself shows some LARPing skill in my opinion. I've LARPed, it's just costumed improve with stricter rules lol.

I'm less sure Dolores/Jeff's mother knew about the switcheroo. (I called her Gloria in one of my stories, I need to fix that.)

Oh look, they've all got costumes. Shocked, I'm shocked. Definitely LARPers. But...why would they wear that stuff to break into the Library? How did Jenkins present this to them? "Think of it as a live dungeon crawl"? Okay, then I'mma gonna concentrate on supplies and some kind of knife, a first aid kit, a shield, maybe some rope...not a cape, a head dress, and fishnet stockings.

I would have loved to see a version of this with the actors switched--John Larroquette acting like Jeff-inside-Jenkins ("how about we...make some magic..."), Andrew Caldwell playing Jenkins-inside-Jeff ("would you please stop setting off booby traps!")

It's really sad how few lines Ezekiel has.

Personal head canon: Ezekiel did some of the stuff Jeff is doing. Only, you know, he hid it better and was a bit cooler about it. We've seen Ezekiel use Munchausen's Top, the Spinning Wheel of Clothos, and have the attitude that 'rubbing up against anything magicky' can be a solution to rescuing Eve and Flynn in that one movie episode so yes. This carefree attitude towards power is why Jenkins worries about him.

The "gimme that boom" scene. C'mon Jenkins get more into it lol.

The Library teaching Jenkins about the best aspects of himself through the analogs of the new librarians. Cleverness from Schmidt/Ezekiel, Joy from Aurora/Cassandra, Persistence from Dennis/Jacob.

The knighting. Beautiful. Also getting the innocents out of the way before something truly dangerous?

The little speech Jenkins gives to Jeff "what's the point of having a life if one does not live it fully," was so incredibly pertinent and needed when I was in a low place that I named my long-form fic after it. I should get back to writing that.

Around 9 pm, was when everybody started to feel the alcohol. “I don’t know, I think Melissa might be all bark and no bite when it comes to game.” Gregory said, although he quickly regretted it. In response, the red head slammed the rest of her beer before retaliating, “I could pick up just about any one of these bozos sitting in this bar.” “Anyone?” Barbara asked, seeing you sit on a bar stool, phone in hand. She nodded towards you, and everyone turned to look. A younger woman, scrolling mindlessly while waiting for her drink. “Yeah, I got it.” Melissa said as she began to stand up from their table. “Melissa you know I think you’re super great and, well, powerful and all but there’s no way that girl is gonna say yes to you.” Janine said. As Melissa rolled her eyes, Barbara smirked. She knew, she was the only one who knew.

Melissa and you met a few months ago, at this very bar in fact. Only difference is, you approached her back then. Ever since, the two of you have been inseparable. The rest of the staff however, have yet to been updated on Melissa’s dating life. So when she waltzed over to you and sat next to you at the bar, they all widened their eyes in anticipation. “Hey sweet girl, my coworkers don’t think I have the game to pick you up,” Melissa said, catching your attention. Flustered, at both the fact that your girlfriend showed up and is sneaking her hand up your thigh, you weren’t quite sure what to say at first. “Espresso martini?” Melissa asked you, already knowing the answer. You smiled and leaned in to whisper in her ear, “Yes please.” Melissa squeezed your thigh and chuckled at your response. She ordered for the two of you, and continued conversation for a bit. “So, how are we going to seal the deal for the onlookers?” You innocently asked. “I have an idea,” Melissa answered, and leaned in slowly to plant a kiss on your lips. It wasn’t long, but it was enough. “Take me to your place, now preferably,” you said immediately as your lips parted. “Whatever you say babe,” Melissa stood up with your hand in hers, paid for the tab, and left the bar without saying another word to her gawking table.

Meanwhile, everybody back there was speechless. But finally it was Janine who spoke up. “I-I guess she does still got it. Also Gregory you owe Jacob five bucks.” For the rest of the night, the table went on and on about the event that just unfolded before them. My favorite character of all time is Light Yagami from Death Note. I fucking LOVE his character so much. I just love everything about him. The way he’s written, the nuance, his whole aesthetic. It’s so *chefs kiss* and I have so many thoughts about him. I am NOT one of those death note “fans” that hates Light or drags his character lol. I am a Light enjoyer unapologetically and he imo is one of the best villains of ALL TIME

Another character I love immensely is Carl Grimes from The Walking Dead comic book. Not the show cuz the show is trash! I used to relate so much to Carl growing up bc I read the comic book as a teen. He’s forever cemented as one of my favorite characters of all time. Also I love the character design and how he’s kind of an anti hero

I also love Ellie Williams from The Last of Us 1 and 2 for the same reason. She reminds me a lot of Carl in the “anti hero” sense. She’s also such a badass. Love those video games !!!!

I also love Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan. Can you tell I like morally questionable characters? Lol. Eren was always and will always remain my favorite character in AOT. He’s kind of crazy but I like it lol and I kind of relate 🤣

Aang from ATLA is also one of my favorite characters. He’s got a sick character design, I love the way he’s written and he’s genuinely a huge comfort character to me. His character arc makes me cry it’s so well done and I love his personality. His character makes me very happy :)

Lastly I think another fav character is Will Byers from Stranger Things. I relate heavily HEAVILY with him. Not only that he’s an artist like me, or his personality which is similar to me as well, but also his upbringing with an abusive father and lastly the fact he’s canonically a gay guy like me makes me feel very represented in the show. He’s my favorite in the entire cast of characters. Love him to death and Noah Schnapp was such a perfect cast and he acts his ass off every second of screen time

Emesis Blue Cinematic Parallel: The M (1931) Tape

Okay, so I'm late to the party talking about this, since it's been like 10 months since Emesis Blue was released, but I have seen zero people mention this when talking about the various cinematic parallels the film uses, and I think this is a very funny one.

I'm not even sure if this was an intentional parallel on the part of the screenwriter, or just a coincidence, but Emesis Blue included a reference to MacGruber (it was the, "How did you know he wouldn't shoot you in the head?" "I didn't," exchange between Spy and Soldier), so Emesis Blue is not above referencing comedies.

Okay, so early on in Emesis Blue, Scout sees a bunch of tapes knocked over in Medic's office. As he's tidying them up, he notices one tape is labelled "M (1931)."

The implication is that it's M for Medic, and it's footage of Medic from 1931. Scout's medical report (the one Soldier finds) says that he's 23 years old and Emesis Blue is set in 1968. Scout is curious about what Medic was up to before he (Scout) was born, between the wars.

Scout steals the tape.

In a later scene, we see Scout at home, watching a black and white film. This film is 1931's M, directed by Fritz Lang (very good director I can recommend; he also directed Ministry of Fear, a film about a man who gets caught up in a bunch of espionage stuff because he won the wrong cake at a raffle--I enjoyed it enough to re-watch it multiple times). The film is in German, which makes sense, as Medic's first language is German.

While we don't get to see Scout's initial reaction to watching what's in the tape (as we cut to the scene in media res), I imagine it was a mixture of disappointment in himself, upon realising the tape is just a movie and that he betrayed Medic's trust for basically nothing.

Kinda ironic, as his trust in Medic will be tested again and again later in the film.

So, this plot beat reminded me of something. And when it occurred to me what it was, I smiled. Because it's a rather unexpected callback when you remember that Emesis Blue has referenced films that can be described as highly respected, iconic, and (very important here) dark. Films like The Shining, Jacob's Ladder, Se7en, and Dr Strangelove.

The film I'm thinking about is…

2005's The Pacifier.

For those unfamiliar with this film's work, The Pacifier is about a military man who, after failing to protect a scientist, is forced to look after and protect the scientist's 5 children in the suburbs while his boss tries to recover the computer program the scientist was working on. The film's premise is part of the tradition of the "main character (who is usually played by a famous irl wrestler/bodybuilder/martial artist) is an action man who is unexpectedly forced to survive in a domestic setting" subgenre since 1990's Kindergarden Cop.

In this film, the main character (Shane Wolfe played by Vin Diesel), while cleaning the house, comes across a disk labelled "GHOST." This looks significant, because Ghost is the name of the computer program the scientist was working on that everybody is after.

Shane Wolfe, after fighting tooth and nail to protect the disk in an action sequence, pops it into a disk player… and Whoopie Goldberg appears on the screen.

The disk was not the much sought-after computer program. It was the 1990 romance film Ghost, starring Whoopi Goldberg.

Cut to Shane and the kids looking very very disappointed.

It’s been 4 months since Annie started working with the Barbers. Her cooking was getting better, not to a chef level, but both Andy and Jake enjoyed the food she made. Although it could be because Andy only knew how to make breakfast and he always had takeout for lunch. Annie told him it was not healthy for Jake to have that much takeout at such a young age, so, now, she had to made dinner and prepare lunch for the next day. It was Friday and she and her friends will have an amazing party that night. They were walking to their cars out of campus.

“And…” Mark started, “how’s the dilf?”

“Dilf?” Annie asked looking at her friends.

“Yes, you know, a daddy I’d like to fuck… dilf” Sharon commented as if it was too obvious.

“His name is Andy.”

“Sure is, but that doesn’t mean he is not a dilf. That man is sexy as fuck! Honestly girl, how can you even hold back when he is around,” Mark said, “I would let him arrest me for being a bad boy! Grrr! yes, daddy!” Sharon and Annie laughed.

“You have a boyfriend and so do I” Annie said to Mark

“And I’m happy with my man, but he knows that just because I’m on a diet doesn’t mean I’m not gonna look at the menu. Besides, you’re gonna tell me you don’t find Andy attractive?”

He was, Annie knew he was, she wasn’t blind, and he was not only attractive on the outside, he was the whole package. “It really doesn’t matter what I think.”

“So you do,” Mark said, “Have you tried to, I don’t know, maybe flirt a little with him?”

“Would you please stop? I have Daniel, and I love him.”

“Ok” Sharon said, “let’s pretend you are not dating anyone, would you make a move?”

Annie looked at them for a moment but didn’t reply.

“Hey,” Mark said, “It’s ok to find another man attractive, is not like you are cheating on your boyfriend.”

“I like Andy, you know as… a friend.”

Sharon and Mark looked at each other, her friend seem to be struggling to say those last two words, so they started talking about the party and whose car they were gonna use, when Annie’s phone rang. The picture of Andy with Jake on his shoulders was on the screen.

“Hi, Andy!”

“Uuuuuuuuuu” Both Sharon and Mark said when she answered, and then proceeded to pretended they were kissing.

“Shut up!”, She blushed a little, “Yes, Andy?”

“Hi. I’m really sorry to do this to you, I know is your day off, but can you come and take care of Jake for a little while? I need to go to the office and some friends will be over tonight.”

“I have plans Andy.”

“Shit! I know...” he started mumbling things under his breath, “I guess I could take him to the office.”

“When do you have to be there?”

“At 5, and be back at 8 I promise. I will pay you double.”

“Fine! But you owe me, big time!”

“Thank you so much!”

She ended the call and looked at their friends.

“I have to take care of Jake. Can you pick me up there?”

“Sure honey, we’ll see you tonight.”

Annie went to her house to pick a change of clothes for the party and her make up bag. She was about to leave when Daniel arrived home early, for the first time since the semester started.

“Shouldn’t you be at class?”

“The professor is sick, so here I am.” he looked at the bag in her hands, “Where are you going?”

“Something happened and I need to take care of Jake, I’ll see you at the party, Mark is gonna pick me up later tonight.”

“What?!” His voice a little louder than usual, “You said Fridays were off, and we haven’t spent that much time together since you started working there.” She could see how annoyed he was. “I was really hoping we could have some fun before getting ready for the party.” He approached to her and kissed her on the neck.

“I know love, but it really is an emergency, they need me,”

“He always needs you”, He let her go, Annie knew he wasn’t talking about Jake. “Where is his wife anyways?”

“I’ve told you, Jake doesn’t have a mom.”

“Of course he does, we all do.”

“You know exactly what I mean, I’m not sure what happened, but she is not around; don’t be like that,” she got closer to him.

“I don’t like him.” Again, not talking about Jake.

“You don’t even know him” Daniel was being unreasonable. “I promise I’ll make it to the party, and I’m gonna wear the dress you like.” she said winking at him.

“The black one with the low cleavage?”

“Yeap… so, are we cool? Can I go?”

“Fine…” he said not too convinced, “but Saturday and Sunday you are all mine!”

“Thanks love!”

She gave him a peck on the lips and left the apartment. Since Mark was going to pick her up, she took the bus to get to Newton. When Andy open the door and saw her his eyes lit and smiled wide at her.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” he hugged her tight.

“Not a problem, but I need to be sure you are gonna be back on time, I’m having a party tonight.”

“A party?” Andy looked at her, “I was hoping you’ll stay a little longer. Some friends are coming over and I need you to help me with Jake.”

“Andy that was not the deal! You said 8! I promise my boyfriend I was going to be at the party.”

“I’ll be back at 8 but I need you to stay, I don’t know 11… tops!”

“No! Andy, I can’t!” She crossed her arms.

“Please! Tell your boyfriend you’re gonna be a little late, besides no good party ever starts early.”

“You know sometimes I hate you, right?” she sighed defeated.

“I’m aware of that, yes.” he smiled.

“Ok, I tell Mark to pick me up later.”

Andy hugged her again and kissed on the cheek.

“You are an angel darling!”

“Yes, yes I am. Let me text Mark.”

“I thought your boyfriend’s name was Daniel.” Andy was putting his jacket on.

“It is. Mark is my friend. I’ve told you about him.”

“Oh, yes! The one who brought you when your car broke.” He took his keys.

“That’s him.”

“I’ll see you later darling”

“Darling”, it was the first time he called her that and also the first time he hugged her or kissed her. Over the past 4 months, especially after the night they hang around in his living room for a while, the two of them grew closer, they had become friends if you will, but still he was her boss. She could not deny the fact that Andy was a very attractive man, he was funny, intelligent and despite how stress he always was he was a great dad. She found herself smiling at the red closed front door until she snapped back to reality.

It was 9 o’clock and Andy wasn’t home. Annie and Jake were on the L shape couch watching Toy Story for the 5th time this month, when the doorbell rang. She went to open the door to find 2 suited men.

“Yes? Can I help you?”

“Is this Andy’s house?” a black guy asked.

“Yes, and you are?”

“We work with him, I’m Anthony” the same guy answered.

“We’re here for poker night” the dark brown-haired man commented while lifting a box of beer he was carrying. “I’m Sebastian.”

“I bet he forgot it was poker night” The black guy intervened again.

“Right… can you wait a little?”

“Sure!”

Annie closed the door and called Andy, she seriously thought he was not going to answer, but then his smooth voice filled her ears.

“Hi, Darling! I’m coming, 5 minutes.”

“There are 2 men waiting for you, a Sebastian and an Anthony? do I let them in?”

“Of course! Wait, did you leave them outside???” a hint of amusement in his voice.

“I had to check” she said and Andy laughed.

“Let them in, they’re harmless.”

She came back to the door and let them in. Jake said hello to them, and she offered them something to drink, they declined and began to prepare the table for their poker night. 10 minutes later Andy came in carrying pizza boxes. Annie was leaning on the counter watching the men fixing the table with a green table cloth, beers and plates.

“Sorry, something happened in the office.”

“Whatever… I’m taking Jake upstairs and get ready” Annie passed by him and he grabbed her by the arm.

“Hey, I’m truly sorry.” She was pissed he could tell.

“Is late Andy.”

Andy sighed and sat down with his friends. They have been working together for a couple of years now, they were detectives just as Pam, and once a month it was poker night. Usually Andy just took Jake with him but since today it was his turn to hold the game night, he thought it was better if Annie help him to get Jake to bed early.

“Did you ask Neal to come?” Andy asked his friends.

“No” Sebastian replied.

“Why not? We could use a fourth player.”

“There’s something off about him,” Seb answered, “He is too…”

“Perfect” Anthony finished the sentence.

“You barely know him, give him a chance.”

“Maybe, we’ll see.” Anthony said.

“Who is the cutie?” Sebastian asked while he drank his beer.

“My nanny… Jake’s nanny” a blush spread across his cheeks.

“Uh! The nanny! Naughty!” Anthony commented.

“Shut up! She is a nice girl, and Jakes loves her. She is very good with him.”

“Are you sure just Jake loves her?” Sebastian said.

“She has a boyfriend…”

“So we are interested!” Anthony continued.

“I’m not!”

“Look at you! Andy Barber, Newton’s ADA, drooling and blushing over his nanny!” Sebastian teased his friend.

“Can you just lower your voice? She is upstairs.”

“Come on, man!” Sebastian put a hand on his shoulder, “You can’t have a girl like that walking around the house and not make a move! Ask her out or something! You are single, live a little.”

“You are single too”

“And I have fun every weekend,” Sebastian winked at them. “What’s stopping you?”

“I just told you she has a boyfriend, and she works for me, it’s not professional.”

“You can fire her and then ask her out.” Anthony said with a smirk.

“I’m not gonna compromise my son’s happiness over a feeling.”

“Aha!” Sebastian pointed Andy with his finger. “You have feelings for her!”

“I didn’t say that! Stop putting words in my mouth! She is just my nanny and my friend, nothing more.”

It was almost 11 when Annie went downstairs ready to leave. She wore the little black dress Daniel loves so much, ironed her hair and put more make up than usual, and to complete her outfit she wore a pair of nude heels. She got a text from Mark’s phone and she walked to the dining room.

“Hey…”

The 3 men looked at her, Andy open his mouth at the sight of her, he had never seen her dress like that. She always wears jeans or leggings, and when she wears dresses or skirts, she always had thighs on. Sebastian elbowed him on the ribs and Andy closed his mouth.

“What?” Annie asked because the three men were staring at her. “Do I look bad?”

“No,” Andy stated, “You look beautiful”

“Stunning” Sebastian said smiling at her.

“Oh! well thank you. Jake is asleep, please try not to be so loud so he doesn’t wake up.”

“Yes, ma’am.” Andy said “Is Mark here?”

“Yes, he is outside.”

“I’ll walk you out.”

Andy stood and walked with Annie to the door, she looked beautiful and sexy. He watched her up and down before opening the door for her. That dress hugged her hips and butt beautifully, and the cleavage allow him to see a bit of her rounded breasts.

“Thank you for coming,” Andy paid her, “I’ll try not to use your Friday again.”

“Liar, but if you say so.” Annie looked outside to find Daniel on Mark’s car waving Mark’s phone in the air, “Hi love! Gotta go. Have fun Andy.”

“You too, drive safe!”

He watched how Annie almost ran to the man waiting for her on the side of the car, it was then when Andy saw her kissing him and playing with his hair a little. He sighed at the picture, closed the door and felt how his heart broke a little, wishing it was him who she was kissing and not Daniel.

Y’all. You can get so fucking detailed with this bad boy. It’s got nations, cities, biomes, religions, cultures, tempatures, populations, flags, maps of the individual cities,,,,, it’s so detailed and beautiful. It takes a bit to get the hang of but I promise it’s worth it. You can start from the ground up or generate something randomly, and aaaaaaaaaaahhh. Fellow writers and GMs, blessed be this resource. Also you can save as a svg, png, jpg, and also export/import the map from a file on your device or saved to your browser. Like. Chef’s freakin kiss.

My opinion on this movie:

This is a movie I've watched quite a few times, the characters feel so natural and this Peter Parker (Tom Holland) really feels like an awkward teenager and looks the part too. My absolute favourite thing about this movie is the awkward jokes and moments, especially Peter and Tony, also Flashes bullying is more realistic and it's stupid and cringey he honestly makes no sense most of the time and he doesn't use physical violence to intimidate Peter (who could easily take him). It's such an enjoyable movie to watch and it holds its own to the other ('better') spider-man movies, I could go on about how this is one of the Spiderman movies, but we know how Tobey fans get. Tom Holland was such a great choice, he is Peter Parker no doubt, born for this. Loved Zendaya as Michelle, she's so quick-witted and her dry humour just makes her character so amazing. Jacob Batalon as Peter's Best friend Ned was chef's kiss, I haven't seen him outside of the spiderman franchise but he became one of my favourite characters, his natural chemistry with Peter just sold their friendship. The stories pacing was 'Eh' to me, sometimes the story was sometimes a bit questionable (Liz's party could've easily been left out and replaced with something better, idk how to explain it, but it's a scene that bored me), I kinda feel like Liz was a last minute character, definitely could've left her out. I don't really have an opinion on her character as she (for a love interest) didn't stick out or have much personality. All the characters worked well, but Liz wasn't thought out and I also feel like the Tony Stark plot and stuff could've also been left out (would be a different movie), but I feel like it would've worked either way. Now for the villain, no complaints about the Vulture, loved every moment of his scene time Michael Keaton is a gem! Loved that they didn't reuse an already-seen villain. Overall there are a lot of scenes I look at and go "why did this need to be here", but some of those scenes make the world more lively so not too many complaints. The last thing is I'm so glad they left the back story out, by now everyone knows who spiderman is and if you don't know there are two previous movies to explain and Peter talks briefly about the spider biting him and how it's dead, was more of an origin for the Vulture, which was also quick and short, glad it wasn't dragged out. (Feel Like I've repeated myself aha, sorry!)

Next movie review: tick, tick… BOOM!

Going through from favorite to least as well, though I do wish to point out that these are all very, very close and I always watch them one after the other when I rewatch, because... I really cannot single one out. So ... *cracks knuckles* :)

Episode 7 -The thing lay still

The whole episode was breathtakingly beautiful and I felt the "female gaze" the director employed. It all felt extremely intimate and careful, like caressing a painting.

I love this episode for a lot of reasons, one of them being the bar scene. This episode is also where it turned really dark, obviously, but also where a lot of the threads and connections were leading to and set up.

Episode 6 - Like angels put in hell by god

If there was ever a fitting title for an episode... seriously. This episode has it all, the only criticism I have here is that I would have preferred to see the direct aftermath, not the jump. But the chess game for example *chef's kiss* (Or the hate sex, or, or, or^^)

Episode 2 - After the phantoms of your former self

Baby vampire Louis!!!! *screech* Ahem :) Juxtaposed with the elaborate Dubai dinner where Louis is decidedly not a baby vampire anymore... and the baby.... :)) this is such a very, very interesting episode.

Episode 4 - The ruthless pursuit of blood with all a child's demanding

I could have done with five episodes of their life alone tbh :) And Claudia's diaries bringing in another voice and another POV was so very refreshing, too. (Totally apart from the possibilities through that.)

Episode 3 - Is my very nature that of the devil

Last but in a way definitely not least^^, but Louis falling into despair is always my least favorite thing to watch (all kudos to Jacob)... and as iconic as the "of course" is... I (in general) could have done without Antoinette's subplot. *shrugs*

WOOOOOOO! finally watched The Sea Beast on Netflix! the first thing i saw of it, other than it being in my Netflix scroll, was this gifset, specifically the first two gifs and the bottom quote 'cause after i went "oHP THAT'S A MOVIE I'M WATCHING" from the first gif, i purposefully didn't look at the others. and HOOOOOOH BOY do i love reptilian sea monsters. -looks at my url- -corrects:- sea monsters. boy do i love sea monsters. so i was hyped to watch the movie only to see that design, but an artist i follow was reblogging a bunch about the movie and saying how much they loved it, so, hey! if it's a good movie too, that's a bonus!!

non-spoiler review: FUN. I LIKED IT. THE ACTION WAS -CHEF'S KIIIIIISS-, THE DESIGNS WERE CHEF'S KISS, IT'S GOT ITS NICE CORNY MORALS FOR AN ANIMATED FAMILY FILM, AND I LIKE PRETTY MUCH ALL THE CHARACTERS. i've got some nitpicks i'll go into in the spoiler part of this review, as it is unfortunately a movie i'd have to force myself to watch again, but, for the most part, that's just 'cause of my own personal stuff / distractibility.

from the caps lock there, obviously i recommend the movie for most people. the most non-spoiler i can get on one of my bigger nitpicks is "character inconsistency. one of the characters seems to have certain traits to service the story's theme, and they inexplicably lose those traits at a certain point to service the story's theme / plot, instead of acting consistent to themself the whole time."

Jacob Holland.

he’s the inconsistent character i mentioned above. he’s the “hyper-competent” character, which was done super fun with the action, but then... he... just... falls apart when he’s taken away from his ship. for comedy, kinda. also to show he doesn’t know what he’s doing, sure, ‘cause that’s the point: he DOESN’T know what’s going on with these creatures. so, the writers could have kept that concept, sure -- that he loses some of his competence once he metaphorically loses his footing -- but there could have been a better balance ‘cause that was distracting.

i took some notes after watching the movie and i said “story-servicing abilities rather than character-serving abilities”: his level of competency is hinged to the story and to the writers, not to himself. again, there’s not inherently anything wrong with that -- storytelling is about communication, after all -- but the drastic dip was unbelievable.

another thing that--ugh. UUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHH. it’s a much smaller deal, but it’s the thing that makes the movie a “i have to force myself to rewatch it” movie.

the... ugh. really? the female-coded EYESHADOW on Red? really???? you have to give the sea monster eyeshadow?????

i would have accepted it if Maisie said her “I think she’s a girl” line or however that went. i would’ve been like “huh. um, okay sure” and that would've been fine. but the kid’s show Bluey and webcomic BACKLASH have spoiled me in regards to female designs. like, look at this wonderfulness:

everyone here is female except for the dad in back! no dumb cartoon eyelashes to tell them apart! you just gotta listen to the pronouns characters call each other. (with a few exceptions through the show, but they're the exception, not the rule, and i have no complaints about those characters)

and look at this! both female! (okay, the first one's from BACKLASH and the second is from a one-shot by the same artist.) no dumb exaggerated eyelashes or eye-shadow-that-doesn’t-actually-exist-because-you-need-to-know-the-character-is-female! wonderful! makes my heart so happy!

so anyway. that aspect of The Sea Beast isn't something that's going to stop me from recommending the movie. it's just a character design thing that irks me, like giving hair only to female stick figures or otherwise-genderless figures. and now that i've seen it's not strictly necessary, it irks me even more, especially on inhuman characters, especially since, usually, inhuman characters would have the males with those features.

anywho.

like i said, good movie, good characters.

i liked the transition of Captain Crow from murky protagonist to CLEAR antagonist, yet nothing he did seemed out of character from how he was introduced, and he was still an empathetic character the whole time. i'd need to rewatch the last scene to fully remember / grasp how his arc resolves, 'cause i do remember going during the credits, "hm, but his crew and ship got away, right? so he didn't have to give that witch 'everything,' right?"

but it seems likely his mental world was shattered and he lost the legacy he'd been working for and living in his whole life. so, neat. there are probably some really good lines and emotional moments around that which will seem even cooler with that in mind.

i liked that Maisie was smart and not just the-kid-in-the-way who has to be constantly saved, and the transition from her being gung-ho to scared and uncertain of the situation when Red first showed up was fast but believable.

and, i'll admit i was getting annoyed with "oh but everything's harmless. we've just been attacking first" oversimplified idea 'cause i've spent some time in places with literal mountain lions, and you gotta be on the lookout, especially if you have dogs, other pets, or kids, so i was grateful for the moment when Maisie, sitting in the gigantic conch shell, heard a roar in the forest and still grabbed a knife. i know it was early in the development of the "question whether something or someone is actually harmful / tradition isn't always right" theme, but i still relaxed

overall, the movie's theme is a bit oversimplified (and i know if i started comparing some of the movie's lines to certain real life idealogical movements, like history-deniers, that i'd be missing the actual points, but some of those lines distracted me too. but, at the same time, i also found the touch about propaganda at the end neat, with the royal family logo and how that was done), and i think How to Train Your Dragon probably went about its concepts more successfully from an animal behavior point of view, but it's a good movie that i'll happily recommend to others. (and i could never really get into the HTTYD movies, either, but that's another personal nitpicky thing, where i suspect i just don't like the more realistic animated movements and physics and a few other minor things lol, so i'm happy to have this movie now 'cause i like it a lot more)

as always, comments welcome, especially comments that disagree or that mention things i skipped over! (yeah, i unfortunately don't have much to say about Sarah Sharpe other than SHE'S SO COOL.) or just someone mutually happily screaming about the movie! remember, i did have happy caps locking at the start of this posts 'cause there's a lot of awesome stuff in this movie!! i appreciate comments and always find them interesting
