Oof okay so I'm on mobile and therefore this will probably be more rant-y and opinion-based than you might be looking for, so I invite anyone with opinions or sources or thoughts or contradictions to reply or shoot me asks and I'll share them (plus I'm curious of other thoughts) but,,

Idk if this was clear in my original post, but my issues are mainly contained within the actual show as opposed to things about him irl, because idk that much outside of secondhand info, so take it with a grain of salt I guess, lol

Also, I feel like I need to say that this is really negative about vmars--which, to be clear, is a show I love dearly--and I know sometimes I like to avoid negative commentary on things I enjoy because it gets stuck in my head and ruins my enjoyment. So if that's you, feel free to skip this! I wont be offended and you shouldn't feel bad about it! It's also just one person's opinion, and I'm most definitely not always right :)

So mostly setting aside the brand new season because I have no clue how to talk around spoilers effectively, in short (with spoilers up through the movie and maybe some spoilers for the books and new season, I cant really tell at this point):

RT shares in the grand tradition of showrunners I do not care for along with Steven Moffat and Jason Rothenberg, for many parallel reasons. Moffat thinks hes cleverer than he really is, jroth is a douche about romance and character motivation, and both are smug jerks who drove me away from shows I used to love, so.

So number one I guess would just be the sense that he really fucking does not care about the fans. It's especially egregious, as I've seen others point out, when he literally would never have gotten his show back (after driving it to the ground) without the LITERAL MONEY donated by devoted fans. I'm not saying you have to do things just because fans want them, but to go out of your way to do things you know fans will hate just to be contrary is,, yeah.

He thinks he's so very smart, and yet his plots are riddled with holes and inconsistencies (hello, Moffat). It speaks, to me, of a lack of respect for everyone involved--fans, writers, actors, crew, critics, just everyone. Write down a timeline. Something. Try.

One of my bigger issues, though, is that the misogyny in vmars is just...beyond appalling. Not just narratively--i understand representing the flaws in society, I guess, but veronica is honestly one of the most misogynistic parts of the show, and she is never ever ever held accountable for it. Ever. The show never sends the message that she's wrong for the atrocious way she treats, to name a few, Madison, Kendall, Gia, and even Carrie during the s1 plot with Adam Scott. The carrie thing is especially fucked up bc iirc the narrative only condemns her for guessing the victim wrong. (As another note, her treatment of other marginalized groups or basically anyone she ever treats badly--logan, Keith, Wallace, weevil, the list goes on--is rarely or never narratively critiqued. Veronica mars can do no wrong, apparently, even when she's obviously wrong.)

She's far from the only example of misyogny, of course--duncan's s2 dream about madonna/whore meg/veronica comes to mind in screaming color, yet donut is somehow treated like a prince forever and ever and v's lost true love even though he's basically the scum of the earth (pardon, my true feelings are coming out a little here).

Somewhat connected is, of course, the show's treatment of rape in general (hi, season 3), but especially Duncan's rape of veronica. I'm still not over the way they walked it back to "not a rape" and took back holding him accountable. I live for all the fanfiction that addresses it, because at least there people remember that, whether he "thought she could consent" or not, he literally thought she was his sister and didnt know. That's uninformed consent at best, babe!

And if that wasn't bad enough, to "resolve" that plotline and then come back at the end of season 2 to be all, "jk! You WERE raped, by SOMEONE ELSE [too]! Enjoy that reenabled trauma, and some chlamidya to boot!"

Speaking of retconned instances of sex, how about that piz/veronica tape that suddenly became full on sex in the movie? Fun times.

My favorite bout of misogynistic writing, you ask? That would have to be "narratively-enforced nicest girl in school who stands by her friends and is sweet and loyal becomes a raging hell bitch yet also the representation of misogynistic virginal innocence because she was knocked up and abandoned by Mr. Narratively-Claimed-to-be-Perfect-but-Actually-the-Worst and completely undergoes a 180 personality change then dies for plot reasons" because holy fucking shit.

Okay sorry I got way more into that than I meant to. I'll try to wrap up.

RT does a very jroth job of treating fans like shit for giving a shit about a romantic relationship he created. He acts like fans are a bunch of stupid girls for caring about romance, but then pushed it at every level of promo to reel us back in. Make up your mind, asshole. It's desperately unfair to bait fans with romantic promo (even in the form of an inane and ooc love triangle) and then snap back with "oooh it's noir, shut up about the romance!"

If that's how you feel, stop making every other plot point and promo about the fucking romance.

RT seems to want to be making a show that he isnt. He wants to be grimdark and angsty and awful, I guess, and while there have been elements of effective darkness throughout vmars, they have been tempered by the show as a whole. That made it (mostly palatable) for people like me. To flip the script now does a disservice to long term fans and does nothing to attract new viewers. If you want to make a different show, make a different show. Don't drive beloved characters into the ground because you're bitter about how your work is perceived post-death of the author.

To wrap up--he hates character growth. He must really hate it. This is dipping a little into the new season, but he just. Won't let anyone develop. Well. Maybe some people. A very few. But not veronica. Never veronica. Because heaven forbid your main character, the person we've followed for 15 years, be anything other than she was at 16. Her personality, her approach to the world, none of it has changed. Which begs the question: what has been the fucking point?

So... Why Virgo instead of any other Zodiac?

At first I thought of answering this with the first thing that came to mind “Oh, I like Virgo!” but that doesn’t sum up perfectly the reasons, so I thought of gathering some information from my heart to be more open and completely honest about it and everything!

I used to work with astrology, deciphering natal charts for people. I already had an understanding of the zodiac sign archetypes and used to think of them as RPG classes for fun, mainly to explain to people. In this sense, I always saw the Virgo archetype as a Paladin of sorts, with a huge holier-than-thou attitude and drawing from the ‘healer’ definition of the sign as well. The Virgo archetype can be very serious and self-righteous, which is exactly what I feel would be great for a main character in a game.

RPGs in general, hell, any game in general often features protagonists which go on adventures and try to defeat a great evil because of things that happened to their childhood, being revenge for a destroyed hometown, slain relative or just being at the wrong place at the wrong time. While this is interesting by its own, I kind of wanted some protagonist who could do things because they saw the world as wrong. Protagonists often want to protect the status-quo in their journey, going against the change that happened in the world or that’s about to happen (such as an empire conquering everyone, a big bad dude trying to make everyone his slaves and all that and the protagonist trying to keep things peaceful as they were). For a change, I wanted the protagonist to be the one to change everything based on their own ideals, much like the villain of most games.

By taking the approach of the villain, I could create a reverse quest that would be a lot of fun to build interactions for, and going on a quest not because the world went to absolute shit, but because what the world as it is right now SEEMS horrible for the protag.

Considering all that, and my background to think of signs as archetypes, Virgo would be perfect for that. Someone like Aries as an archetype would be short-sighted to fix the world and would require something terrible happening to themselves as a trigger for going around the world. Taurus wouldn’t leave her bed, Scorpio fits more of a strategist rather than someone who directly goes to change things. Leo would rather seek approval for her ideals and gather followers in a leader-ish approach. Virgo would be disgusted with the world as it is and be forced to fix it on her own because no one else would agree with her overly critical reasons.

Virgo in game, while caring profoundly for those very close to her, never fails to find flaws on any and everything, creating an automatic reason to fix the world.

I also always roleplayed as Paladins lacking any kind of self-awareness of their own devotion on tabletop RPGs before, cause it’s much more fun to be driven by untouchable ideals that get totally distorted by blind faith.

Sorry for taking so long to answer all of you, I’m really sorry, I wanted to take my time to think of a proper answer to everyone, I hope you aren’t mad with me for my crazy delay!! :0 I hope this answers any doubt around that!

I am drowning in apathy and can’t come up for air enough to even try to give a shit about an intro. Why does this blog exist? What does this title mean? Will there be more posts? Who fucking knows. Maybe I’ll come back to that. Maybe I won’t. I don’t much care, personally, and I don’t owe you anything. I’m not trying to be hostile, I’m actually quite grateful for the care or concern that brought you to my blog - that you took time from the never-ending shit-kicking of life to come check on me. I just… can’t write for you. Can’t care about your expectations. Can’t get lost on the side roads it would take me on.  I’m alive today and, in what is probably not progress, I can’t even bring myself to praise that accomplishment. I “know” (because I’ve spent hours being told by my therapist and my brilliant friends and I trust them, even on days I don’t trust anything created by my own brain) that once I cross the suicide threshold, especially with as few resources as I currently have, my only job is to stay alive, and my only expectation is to at least try to do that job. So *imagines a sad party kazoo* “whoooo”.  I’m SO. DAMN. boredwithtiredofsickoftotllyunamusedby DISGUSTED AT THAT BEING A SUCCESS.

On the Right - Wanting to Relapse Into Stimulant Fueled Mania I can’t die. I can’t relapse. Not because I have a moral problem with either but because of THE GREAT IRONY: The Tragic Truth. More on what that truth is, later. I don’t trust myself to write about it right now without spiraling into self harm. And besides, isn’t it more fun to talk avouy what a great title that is for a one woman show? I have it all planned out. I just need a clone and a time machine to go back in time and kidnap my younger self to play the third role. You’re probably confused, reader I haven’t even envisioned yet because I don’t expect to finish or share this. Oh well. Keep up or don’t. I will certainly want my imaginary audience to be smart, whoever they are.

While all is quiet on the outside of my brain, out here where you all live, looking at my distant, withdrawn face, inside this head … way inside, tonight’s showing of The Great Irony is already underway. There is a giant sound stage. Pitch black except for a large spotlight which illuminates all 3 of the show’s characters from directly above. A little girl plays with chalk on the ground, in the right front of illuminated circle “stage”. here are thick, luxurious red velvet theatre curtains draped around senselessly and seemingly defying gravity, as there is nothing to drape anything FROM. The lighting is too dramatic and there is moody music drifting in a Flapper Era jazz club. I’m never sure whether to roll my eyes at the sheer lack of originality or to clap with giddy excitement at how those few, simple devices can set such a powerful scene, in an otherwise empty and dull and cavernous space. The spotlight forges an almost impossible intimacy in the endless room… but it also traps them there. together. There is nothing to see beyond the light’s borders. No set changes to look forward to. No adrenaline-fueled and giggly costume changes or intermission snacks await these 3 characters. For them… this is life. The whole of it. For better or worse. Forever. Or at least it feels like it has been to them.

That thought brings draws my eye to the floor, to the trail of bright yellow chalk dashes that leads an observer to the circle, leads … through an almost whimsical path of spirals and turns and labryinth like mazes to the little girl and, turning around from where I am standing, I see that it leads behind me too. It twists, and turns endlessly, leading far out of sight from the furthest reach of the light, Suddenly… with horror… I notice that a few feet from the dainty, playfull trail of dashes there is another “trail”. But this one ugly, uneven, immediately recognizable to any fan of true-crime mysteries like myself as the mark of a bloody body being dragged along the dull grey concrete it - absurdly - follows the same flighty path! It makes it so much worse, the twists and turns and spirals and mazes… worse than a straight drag mark down a crime scene hallway…no one should be so casual with a body! Yet some how, though the path exacerbates the grotesque morbidity of the bloody drag marks… it cannot steal the whimsy from the chalk. They are two separate entities, impossibly following the same path just a few feet apart.. A broken, crying pitiful ME is lying in the fetal position in a thick,satiny, scarlet puddle of blood. In one hand is a razor blade, her other, steadily and elegantly bleeding hand is reaching out, her face a perfect and painful depiction of agony. She is a mute and yet she never stops begging for help. Begging for someone to see and help. In blood, sometimes, she uses her fingers to scrawl “HELP” and “PLEASE” and “I’M SORRY” and “WHY?”. Standing just out of reach is a tall, broad shouldered, fabulously dressed and made-up me. She frequently steps further away from the sad mime to ensure the blood doesn’t touch her red suede stilettos, rolling her eyes and filing her nails as she incessantly spews out hurtful, hateful words. “Hateful? Bullshit. Somebody has to say some shit to those mother fuckers, for fuck’s sake.” she spits. Pointing at the third guest, a wide-eyed beautiful little girl. “That naive idiot just keeps running into emotional traffic matter what happens. She never learns. She hates that I’m ‘mean’? I hate that she’s WEAK. You’re BOTH weak. I’ve kept us alive… not that you ever show any gratitude.” (in progress, unfinished)

[I wanna start this off by saying that I personally apologize to @dashingicecream. Even though I hate the way she handled a very simple situation, that does not excuse me for going about responding to it like I did. In my eyes, she is still wrong for what she did and I personally would like for her to apologize to @botmj. But I’m just as bad for acting like a bit of a dick in my “Message to Dash” post. And for that, I regret my ignorant tone.

I hope she can forgive me for being overly aggressive. And if she does decide to block and ignore me, then I completely understand and respect her decision.]

However, I’m gonna have to disagree with you @alexlayer. And that’s not to say that you don’t bring up some good points, cause you do. But, I still have to disagree with you.

Why don’t we go through what you responded, piece by piece, to see exactly what I do and don’t agree with you on.

1. “What do you think she meant when she spoke about people thinking themselves “super edgy and unique” when shipping Straight Ships? There are actual shippers out there that think they can capitalize in the underdog reputation that the LGBT community has earned. Right off the bat, there seems to be some confusion. Lets clear this up. I don’t have a problem with her saying that people are stupid for thinking they’re edgy and cool just by shipping straight couples in a, quote, “LGBT Predominate” series. Even though that probably might not the case for some who do ship straight ships.

I have a problem with her labeling all straight people in an ignorant way, and then immediately dismissing any criticism for it. I’d probably never would have said anything if she had responded to @sjelenkain and @botmj comments in a well mannered way. But, she didn’t. She instead makes a big deal out of it just to hype herself up by posting these really unnecessary follow ups. Saying things like, “If you don’t like it! then block me! You wont be missed! I never claimed myself to be perfect!” Only after she immediately blocked @sjelenkain for commenting. Not even letting him have the choice to unfollow and block her. Sorry to say, but that kinda attitude honestly seems pretty childish to me.

Dash didn’t have to agree with what they said at all. And she fully has the right to block whoever she wants. But she can’t then complain about getting criticism after posting something divisive to a specific group of people. And afterwards be extremely rude to an ask that was only trying to find a middle ground between the two. That’s not how you should go about people giving you their opinion. No matter how much you don’t agree. Cause meeting negative actions with negative re-actions is never gonna get anyone anywhere close to finding a proper solution. (Something that I wish our current US president would realize.)

And again, I’m just as much of a hypocrite for doing the exact same thing. But, look at what I’m doing right now. I’m admitting my faults and taking full responsibility for my words. If I, a smaller sized blog, am willing to accept my actions and apologize for it, why can’t she?

Regardless, let’s move on.

2.  And if that sounds ridiculous, it’s because IT FUCKING IS and Dash was just COMMENTING on it. Offhandedly and sarcastically, maybe, but she didn’t even through any insults or any of the sort. But of course, some entitled fucktoy went and got offended, as if a comment like that was the same as the government denying you the rights to love your loved ones, or wanting to pass a law that makes it legal for you to get electrocuted in order to “correct” your sexuality, and so one threw the first stone, and since the first one had been thrown, others followed suit, with you – @b-listbadboy – now throwing the biggest one because hey, now it’s cool to pick on her, huh?

You’re not necessarily wrong here. I did come off as a bit of a hateful “fucktoy” in my message and I, again, apologize for that. I let what was happening to me in my personal life influence how I think and write when seeing what Dash was doing. For that I am completely at fault. Even with the personal b/s that was going on with me IRL, its still no excuse for me to take it out on someone else entirely.

However lets talk about this whole “The Straights” thing that Dash said.

I know it was meant as a off handed sarcastic joke. But Just because Dash meant it to be a joke and wasn’t necessarily bashing anyone, doesn’t mean its OK to just ignore it and love her unconditionally. Saying that label, In my personal opinion, is a perfect way to accidentally cause a rift in your followers. Those who are “The Straights”, and those who aren’t. It gives off the impression that people who are straight or ship straight aren’t welcomed to her blog.

And I know she most likely didn’t intend for that, because she herself ships straight couples in a “LGBT Predominate” series. It was Sunflowyr (Yang x Ren) before, now its Strawberry Banana (Sun x Ruby).

You can joke about literally anything, as long as you make it clear that its all meant to be a joke and its only purpose was for fun. That’s what I believe Dash failed to do. If she did, there would literally be no need to overreact on @sjelenkain critique. Speaking of which…

3. And for the record, calling a person childish is NOT “genuine criticism”, and none of that people made Dash who she is today. She’s who she is thanks to her inspired art and her relentless will to draw what she likes, not because of someone adding +1 to her followers or count of likes. And she’s all the more amazing for enduring and sticking to her guns when even fellow LGBT shippers want her to stop drawing her OTP and instead switching to the more popular ships like White Rose and Bumblebee. Fuck it all, she’s already got more than enough shit to deal by herself like to have now people trying to act like she’s this toxic influence in the fandom. All of you are nothing but entitled bullies that need to shut their mouths and pick something better to do with their time to pick on the first person they come across to pick at and act like you’re delivering righteous justice, when all you’re doing is being a bunch of entitled assholes.

Sorry, but I have to strongly disagree….and agree as well? Let me explain.

His comment, while not being the best crafted or even the exact words I would’ve chosen, is legitimate criticism. Negative criticism, but still criticism none the less. I understand how she felt hurt by his comments, and I’m not blaming her for feeling that way. What I am blaming her for is claiming that he needs to unfollow her when she blocked him and took away his choice to even consider doing so. That, I believe is very hypocritical of her. But, I do get why and its not completely her fault.

And as for her sticking to her guns by not giving in to the hordes of demands by White Rose and Bumblebee shippers….yeah you’re absolutely right. Dash is commendable for enduring that kind of overbearing bullcrap that I often do see in the FNDM. I should know, shipping a rarepair like Knightshade (Jaune x Blake) can come with some backlash.

Something else I kinda agree and also don’t agree with you on is that the followers “made” Dash. Now, admittedly, I really could’ve used a better way of phrasing it. So instead of saying that the followers “made” her, lets say they “brought her up”.

I am almost 100% positive that Dash wouldn’t be doing what she does if no one supported or followed her. Especially if she is getting the amount of hate that you and Dash are both claiming. And, y’know what? Being encouraged by the reward of getting more followers isn’t necessarily a demonizing thing! Its almost completely natural on social media and its not something to fault her or really anyone on. I most certainly get excited to see people follow me and don’t see any shame in saying so. And looking back at dash before she was really any level of big that she is now, you can clearly she that not only her art but also her personality and influence has changed.

So, yes, I do think the followers brought her up as who she is now. Its most certainly not the only thing, but it is a big chunk. And again, its nothing to be ashamed about! However, its something that needs to be taken in consideration when posting anything on a public place like tumblr. A lot of people, like you @alexlayer (and believe it or not, myself included.), really look up to her and hold her to a high standard. So when she post something rude and divisive about a specific group of people, if that group of people have been following and supporting her since the begging and see that, they’ll definitely feel betrayed and offended. And they will for sure express that to her.

Final thing I wanna say before ending this post is that like you and I, @dashingicecream is human. And humans make mistakes all the time. But what makes those mistakes OK to make, is when we can see where we were wrong, and apologize for it. I’m not asking for her to change anything about herself at all. And once again, I do apologize for making my original post seem that way. But, I would love for her to at least apologize to @botmj, if anyone at all. I hope you understand where I’m coming from now that I’ve cleared it up better for you all reading this. And even though typing all of this for two days has been exhausting as FUCK, I believe it was worth it.

Review: Why Uniters and American Signature warranties are a joke and waste of money!

First, to my viewers, I am so sorry for having to provide negative reviews. but I have to forewarn of what you already know. American Signature Warranties are a joke. The following is the best of my knowledge and belief. I am expressing my experience and expectations of a good customer service experience.

American Signature Warranties and Uniters (thumbs down)

In 2013 I purchased a Marilyn bed, Foam mattress, and an American Signature Warranties, Around $2,000 total.  It was my first purchase and 2nd overall to date from the company. Warranties, they’re a waste of time and money generally. I fell into the trap at the store from our salesperson. She provided to me verbally that with American Signature Warranties all the leather is covered, the footboard and headboard. I asked and questioned her about the footboard, she said yes it is a type of material that is covered.

I cautioned my wife against it due to our recent incident with Best Buy and their warranty. We were told one thing and provided terms to another. A typical sales pitch. There’s no real discipline for these errors because the benefit outweighs the lack of selling it. So false promises throughout all industries seem to contradict the terms. Imagine, (at the time), 2013, you get $59.00 company wide from a million customers a year. $59,000,000 is a great self-insurance plan if they can convince with whatever means to get the sale on the warranty. I, in fact, asked for a brochure on it and they said they didn’t have any. A person acting as a manager took over the conversation and said it’s well worth it. Telling of his own account of using the warranty. They were looking for one while we finished up the sale. I will give it to them we were in there later in the evening.

I took the bait, $59.00 This is a very nominal charge for their promises. They did verbally promise any damages pets, accidental, defects etc. There’s no pet damage here so atleast that doesn’t apply. However, upon delivery/pickup I did get a pamphlet and the warranty term card which is blue and a pretty trifold brochure echoing similar language. One part of that indicated that pets are not covered. I wasn’t shocked, but called the store and asked them afterward, They did tell me that if I did have any troubles with the bed come to the store first and they will try to help me.

Fast forward 2017, 3 years and some months after owning the bed, no troubles, great bed, it was the “Marilyn” When I arrived back on August 26th, 2017 My wife and I were cleaning up and making the beds and she alerted me to some peeling/cracking on the headboard which is bonded leather. I felt it and it felt brittle and breaking, you could almost touch it and it get a couple flakes to fall off. I had not noticed any of these flakes in the bed or on the ground.

Calling Uniters about American Signature Warranties

Prior to calling,  I downloaded their app and started a claim, the app was working fine then locked up on me. I was unable to finish the claim, so I called. I even made the customer service person aware that I was trying to file on the app but it was not working. The person I spoke with was friendly and nice, and that’s about it. I gave her the information about the leather. She asked me when did this happen, I said I don’t know last month. Probably not associating that we’re in September she may have thought it happened in July. She put me on hold and came back and said “you only have the leather stain protection plan, cracking is not covered” I said what? I am confused. I guess I will call the store. I called the store and she was baffled about the terms and said yes that should be covered, meaning bonded leather. I read her the terms and she offered to have me email photos in and the warranty card. Hanna Stated she was new and know that the warranty had recently changed.

I called back Uniters, read term for term and then was provided that I was out of American Signature Warranties due to not reporting it within 15 days (My pamphlet has 10 days indicated) I walked through the house to my wife and asked her, “when did we get back?” She said on the 26th (August). I explained to the second person that I didn’t give her an exact date because I didn’t know it until confirming with my wife. The time frame that I discovered it was within the 10 days of my discovering the cracking. I was told from the second uniters phone call that she can alert a manager/supervisor but they will be back Tuesday. I am fine with waiting on that but she said they probably wont reverse the terms. You’re not covered since it’s not top grain leather. I re-read the terms to her and said “Cracking peeling of all leather, leather-touch, bicast, bonded and vinyl in non-seated areas.  She then mentioned about the date also. I said I don’t recall giving the previous call taker a date, but my form says 10 days not 15 days as you mention.

Troubled statement

When Calling back the Daytona American Signature Store, I spoke to another person who after verifying that they received my email said the manager was busy. She pulled my order up and looked at the pricing and confirmed I had the warranty. She made a comment of, “You did pay $59.00 for it”, maybe that has something to do with it. I said I sure hope not since we purchased something you decided to sell at that rate for those terms. I am currently waiting for a call back from American Signature at this time.

I have always said it, the warranties are a joke and a terms war. So I stay away from them as much as I can. However, with American Signatures warranty, they say if you file no claim, you get the money back! So if they still hold to that may be a reason. It’s in the form of credit and has a 60-day term life on the warranty card. So you have to buy new furniture or you lose it within 60 days of receiving it. Fair enough.

American Signature, I want you to just cover your promise. I am not asking you for the verbal promises we were provided about pets and such, since this is not related to pets. Just what your final bullet of coverage says. “cracking or peeling of all leather…….in not seated areas” As per your employee statement of downplaying the price I paid. It’s what you charged them, and I am sure it is higher now, understandably so.

I have lost so much faith in local retailers due to the interaction between customer and business. You can’t screenshot a conversation (record) and hold them to their word. Even worse, you can’t even keep them to their terms that they provide you. I would be glad to revise and update this warranty review pending their outcome of upholding their terms and agreement during this transaction. Overall we have been satisfied with the purchase until claiming the warranty.
