Randall’s breath was held tight in his throat as he nervously awaited Emily’s response, pulse pounding as he searched her face, trying to pick up on any sign of how she was to react to this-he was relieved when she finally replied, exhaling softly as she gave her response. Behind the mask, he’d raised an eyebrow at her comment about beauty being only skin deep (it was a phrase he’d heard before, just never in regards to himself...), her elaboration on how, no matter how attraction Don Juan was, no matter how women he had hanging off his arm, he would always be alone.

And that was true! Don Juan dropped these women as soon as he was done with them, leaving him empty and alone at the end (even if such a thing was never shown to bother him)��but what did that mean for Randall himself, he wondered? Did she mean to say that, despite his accursed ugliness, he wouldn’t be nearly as lonely as Don Juan was? He supposed that was true, now that he had Emily in his life, but still...did it mean that, maybe one day, he too could be loved, surrounded by good company?

He wasn’t quite sure of what to make of that, but he could see what Emily was getting, and despite that skepticism, he put on a smile for her, saying, “Th-Thank you, my dear, I...I’ve thought about that, how people still love Don Juan, despite what he does...even we in the audience are entranced by him, and we see all he does on the stage! But him being alone, despite all that...I-I hadn’t quite thought about that!”

Quotes I think fit au!aimsey or something (because really I just really wanna talk about quotes I like)

So first one:

"The life you live, the hate you feel—it’s poison. I can drink it no longer." - Six Of Crows, Leigh Bardugo.

First things first, this is one of my favourite scenes in the entire book. I love Matthias in this scene and this line makes it just even better. It is such an important moment in his character arc (which is amazing). I imagine this line sort of around the time au!aimsey ran away from the demons and stuff. Star was always too human for the demons, but not human enough for the humans. But the thing is it wasn't really like he could go anywhere else, but eventually, they did decide to step away. It's why I think this life fits because at one point au!aimsey must have made the decision as to who they would follow. Themselves or their family. (psst, I did write an au!aimsey fanfic inspired by this line if you want to read it the link is here)

Second:

“When everyone knows you’re a monster, you needn’t waste time doing every monstrous thing.��� - Six of Crows, Leigh Bardugo

Okay so maybe I just wanted to talk about this quote because I really like it without really having a character in mind, but I think it can fit o!aimsey. So, hear me out. Although it doesn't really make sense, I don't mean this quote literally. The quote very much applies to Kaz's character, but if you look at the quote without specifically looking at the words monster and monstrous, you can also see it as you don't need to prove a point that's already proven, you are wasting your time. It is why I like the quote so much. But it is still not really how I think it applies to o!aimsey. o!Aimsey is constantly boasting about all the famous people she knows and how important end is. It s like they are trying to convince everyone that they are important without realising that no one has said that she doesn't matter. She feels the need to prove herself, even though no one has asked her to. He is wasting his time proving a point that doesn't need to be.

Since I have done o!aimsey and au! aimsey now it is only right I do c!aimsey as well, but please keep in mind that I don't think I know c!aimsey that well. The majority of what I know is from aimsey talking about them on stream. Anyway:

“You wear so much armour by daylight that, by night, you can carry it no longer. By night, you are only flesh. And even the flesh of a queen is prone to fear." - The Priory of the Orange Tree, Samantha Shannon. (This quote had a second part but I wanna talk about the first part)

Now, replace the word queen with knight. From my not-very-expansive knowledge of c!aimsey she really wants to protect others by being the town's knight and tries for everyone to be happy. But because of this people assume she is always happy and that they are naive, when really they have gone through so much, but struggle to put themselves first especially after it goes very wrong if they do decide to do that. (Don't know how well this is explained I just like the quote)

Last minute addition of an au!sunshipduo thingy of these:

It is quite simple, they balance each other out. au!aimsey is chaotic, doesn't try to help or appeal to anyone around them, the darkness (in this quote at least). au!guqqie just wants everyone to be happy, ze wants safety, the light. It creates a balance between the two. au!guqqie will calm au!aimsey down so they don't do anything too stupid. au!aimsey pushes au!guqqie to also just be a bit chaotic every now and then.

Actually I was going to leave this in the tags but screw it. I'm just going to say I think it's odd to use JKR as an example in this, because if I'm reading this correctly...

You're using her as an example of a progressive person becoming radicalized into a bigot, correct? Because, from what I've heard from various critiques of her she's kind of always had issues (SPECIFICALLY, within her writing) but it wasn't until recently more people took notice. Her books contained racism, antisemitism, & fatphobia and to ignore that just seems a bit unsavory.

Like, op has a point but... maybe not with JKR. Sure, is she more obvious and overt about her bigotry now? Yeah, has she gotten more extreme? Probably, I think (again I don't know all that much about her I'm just going on what I've heard from social media & people who have critiqued her) but it's always been there, just a lot of people didn't notice or care until it became something that specifically affected them.

Lost followers after reblogging that whole thing about JKR being radicalized over the years, and that disturbs me.

Like if you think saying that people can be radicalized and manipulated into hate is somehow justifying it, yikes. And if you think that people are somehow just good or evil and that you are not at risk of buying into propaganda, have I got some very red flag news about that!

Idk if its because I am an older Millennial maybe (most who unfollowed were younger) but I watched a ton of that generation slide from one of the most progressive to the far right before my every eyes. Hell, my dad fought alongside his black friends in the Detroit race riots and now he watches Fox News 24/7 and talks about the border wall. Yet still claims he could never be racist because of how he used to be. He doesn’t even realize what he has become.

JKR isn’t a deluded old woman or innately evil, but in fact THE prime example of how well-meaning ignorance and privilege can be weaponized and encouraged down a pipeline, until it turns into a force of hate, and should be a cautionary tale about why educating and being open about these issues are necessary. Because there are those out there who will use those divisions and ignorance to their own ends. And just digging in our heels and saying “that could never be me!” is the very thing that puts you more at risk. I’ve lost so many loved ones down that pipeline and it is more slippery than most realize.

Stay alert, stay compassionate, stay humble, and make sure you move through life guided by reason rather than reaction. I love y’all and don’t want to see your passion twisted to get used against the world.
