As someone who already graduated from liking WangXian too much and not a fan of romantic HuaLian, I'm actually surprised I like BingQiu than I expected?? I really enjoyed their transition from platonic to romantic relationship. There are moments where you just enjoyed how emotional the scene is without shipping them. I only start to ship them in Book 3. Its a good move that the story don't always make BingQiu's scenes look romantic from Shen Qingqiu's perspective so you don't have romantic lens when you're looking at Luo Binghe as love interest. My problem in WangXian and HuaLian are they start strong at first and I ship them in the beginning but I lose interest quickly after the confession. But in BingQiu its the opposite, I like their master-disciple dynamic at first and it took a while before I like them as couple so I'm more interested in their after-stories antics. Its a short story after all but I feel really satisfied in their main story ending. Sometimes the ship that will stay in you is the least you expected, that's BingQiu to me. I also read Sha Po Lang (yifu kink) and Tian Ya Ke (cannibal gong) before my reading experience in SVSSS so I'm not disturbed that much.
What's more surprising is I really like Luo Binghe?? He's the only gong by MXTX that I'm actually invested in reading. Maybe because he felt like a hero? Not a love interest? He's a novel's protagonist after all so maybe that's why? Shen Qingqiu felt like the love interest instead. Its fun to read his good and ugly sides. I like his journey of finding out if Shen Qingqiu deserve his trust or not after the betrayal and their growth as flawed couple. I still stand that Hua Cheng is the most terrifying and unhinged MXTX gong for me which make sense because they are gods and ghosts. Xie Lian is also calmer than Shen Yuan so yeah. Imagine TGCF from Shen Yuan's perspective and see how scary Hua Cheng is.

Best character surnamed [Misc]
This is the last surname poll!! The very last one! In this poll, your humble poll runner has put forward 12 candidates who didn't have enough other characters with the same/similar family name to run their own polls, but who I was sad not to be able to include. This is entirely biased and not at all objective.
Not including this poll, I have run 182 polls over the last three months! The most voted in polls have been the Lan poll with 619 votes, the Wen poll with 512 votes, and the Zhao poll with 436 votes. Shout out to the DMBJ fandom who have coordinated their blorbo's win not once, but several times!
Thank you to everyone who voted, reblogged, added propaganda, and generally had fun with them! It's been ana amazing time <3 I've had so much fun and I hope that you have as well!
By the time this poll goes out, there should still be some surname polls running which can be found here.
I will also be resuming the more normal once a week polls, so keep an eye out for those! We have got some excellent ones coming up if I do say so myself.
And now, without further ado, the final poll!

Favorite Disabled Web Novel Character Tournament
Last Checked: October 31st, 2024 - Please check the original post for updates
Submissions End: TBD
Rules
One character per submission
Submit as many times as you want
Must be from a web novel or an adaptation
In-world disabilities that don't exist IRL (ex: a character unable to use magic in a world where everyone else/most people can) will be accepted as long as you think it qualifies as a disability
Mental & non-physical disabilities will also be accepted, including mental illnesses & neurodiversity
The WN doesn't explicitly have to mention they're disabled/their disability, but I don't want to include pure headcanons since this tournament is more about highlighting canon disability representation. Feel free to talk about any headcanons in the ask box though! I enjoy hearing y'all's thoughts :)
Tag: #disabled WN characters tournament
Submissions
Cui Buqu from Peerless
Submission: Chronic fatigue, vulnerability to illness, heart in the wrong spot. Basically generically chronically ill
(The following is all from the Less Popular Danmei Character Tournament bc it’s really good propaganda lol)
Submission: He’s mean, he’s disabled and unapologetic about it, he’s a genius and all his braincells escape him when faced with his rival, he’s a secret agent and has no martial arts, he’s deeply in love and will never say so unless pushed, he will liken his rival to his sun and then tell him he’s the most annoying person he’s ever met. He’s a bastard little fox <3
Additional Propaganda #1
Additional Propaganda #2
Fu Shen from Golden Terrace/Golden Stage
Submission 1: Fu Shen's leg is broken in battle. He has to use a brace and a wheelchair while he recovers.
Submission 2:
Crippled legs/wheelchair bound for most of the novel  propaganda: The prologue of the novel is him basically suffering an assassination attempt which crippled his legs horribly when a bunch of rocks fall on him. Despite being wheelchair bound for most of the novel (he later gets these like leg exoskeleton support things but he can't wear them for more than a few hours or something and still has to use the wheelchair), he's still depicted as being just as badass and respected. His men still hold him in high regard, and he still goes around investigating shit and even once using a crossbow to take someone down. He also uses people underestimating him now that he's crippled to his advantage. His love interest is also incredibly sweet and remodels his whole estate to be wheelchair accessible right before he moves in after they're married.
Carrd/Image Link
Gu Mang from Remnants of Filth / Yuwu
Submission: He's missing some of his souls, which renders him intellectually disabled and amnesiac.
Wiki Link
Gu Yun from Sha Po Lang
Submission: He's half-deaf and half-blind, but still a badass.
Wiki Link
Hua Cheng from Heaven Official’s Blessing
Submission: Blind in one eye and uses his magical butterflies as a disability aid to help him see!
Jing Weiyi from The Imperial Uncle
Submission: Jing Weiyi's leg was broken when he fell off a horse when he was young. Afterwards, he walked with a limp for many years.
Ji Yushi from Mist [Unlimited]
Submission: Hyperthymesia... Basically, he can remember almost everything, and while that helps some in the scenarios of the novel, it also has a huge detrimental effect on him, and he needs pills to calm his mind and such. I'm not sure if it really counts as a disability, especially since there are less than a hundred people with this in real life, but I think it should count for this tournament since it's neurodivergence and such.
Kim Kiryeo from The Hunter of the Other World Who Is Being Misunderstood
Submission: Kiryeo has a badly healed leg injury which makes it difficult for him to walk and impossible to run, lungs damaged by smoking that heavily limit his physical ability, lung cancer that causes him to cough up blood occasionally and a severe depression to the point of memory loss. He couldn't receive treatment for his leg and cancer due to the lack of money and in the end gave up on it and started to smoke to cope.
Mae Yakbing from Best Teacher Baek
Submission: She has a rare chronic illiness that causes her to get sick often, grow weak over time and die young.
Mu Tianchi (Jing Wang) from The Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Pet Fish
Submission: Jing Wang is mute.
Shen Qiao from Thousand Autumns
Disability: Blind
Shen Qingqiu from The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System
Submission: Chronic illness. SQQ is poisoned by a fictional poison literally named “without a cure.” In universe his condition is treated much like a chronic illness that requires constant monitoring and maintenance (medication, check-ups and regular qi infusions) in order to keep in check. Even when he adheres to his treatment regime, it still has unpredictable flare-ups that could put him in serious danger if they happen at the wrong time. The flare-ups (which happen randomly and vary in length unless he receives medical aid) completely block his ability to use qi thus making in-universe actions that are normal/habitual for most his peers (such as flying) much more risky for him.
Shi Qingxuan from Heaven Official’s Blessing (TGCF)
Submission: Ends up with a broken arm and leg that is not healed
Song Qingshi from Mistakenly Saving the Villain
Submission:
ALS before he transmigrated (hopefully this counts, it's big part of his character as a doctor and he thinks about it a lot, and he even gets panicky in his new body when his limbs go numb!!) It's also not explicitly said but he's very autistic coded and canonically has a hard time understanding metaphors, communicating with other people/understanding others emotions, and when he's reading about medicine or doing experiments he hyperfixates and doesn't do anything else for the entire day. When he's with others he gets so anxious he ends up putting on a stern face, so people think he's scary when he's internally panicking
Wiki Link
Wei Wuxian from Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
Submission: Wei Wuxian has trauma responses to several things, in particular dogs and the sparky sparky spirit whip. There's no way he doesn't have PTSD with everything he went through.
Xiao Xingchen from Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation
Disability: Blind
Xue Xian from Copper Coins / Tong Qian Kan Shi
Submission:
Peddling my disabled gay dragon again... He's paraplegic for most of the story, and this affects him in his true form and all of the forms he shapeshifts into. He also gets a wheelchair at a certain point and he's so happy about it 🥺  He's also, like, such a vibrant and charming character. Hes soooooo annoying(affection and approval) and so over the top and i support him in everything. Also lets not forget that he has a tiny noodle form and curled around his bf's wrist like a bracelet. this lives rent free in my head what a move
Carrd Link
Zhou Zishu from Faraway Wanderers
Submission: He injects himself with the Nails of Seven Apertures for Three Autumns. These nails result in him becoming sickly. The effects of the nails are a limited life span, halved martial arts strength, periodic pain, a ruined sleep schedule, and withered meridians.
Wiki Link
Rejected
Ballister Blackheart from Nimona
Reason: Not from a web novel
Sapphia from High Class Homos
Reason: Not from a web novel (Webtoon)

nine people I’d like to get to know better
Got tagged by @dual-domination! :D
🎶 Last song I listened to: WINK by Chuuohku Party of Words (Hypmic) - I'm still so happy the ladies got songs and now a stage play even though it started as a male only project.
📺 Currently watching: I just finished rewatching Scumbag System yesterday (crying over how we will never get that second season). I'm technically still watching Parallel World (last episode left) and Fairyland Lovers (last 15 min left) but I've not touched either in weeks... Also I'm in the middle of rewatching Guardian and my first watch of Star Trek with my house mates but we're only making slow progress.
🌶️ Sweet/Savory/Spicy?: Savory > Spicy > Sweet - but I like them all. I can't handle much spice but I do like a little bit of it.
❤️ Relationship status: Single and no plans to change that (except for if anyone wants to be my glucose guardian without expecting anything in return).
🤩 Current obsession: Sha Po Lang/Stars of Chaos by Priest, especially Gu Yun lol. Though I'm waiting for the official translation so I'm only up to date with volume 3. Can't read many fics that don't include spoilers but I'm so focused on SPL currently that I can't read other fandoms... Also I've been playing a lot of minesweeper.online
Tagging @jeaniechibi @polar-explorer @asoftspotforangels @programmedradly
@tehfanglyfish @miss-ingno @thatsnotbeautiful @baiyubai @mcvices
Feel free to ignore me if you don't want to do/have done this already.

Finished vol. 3 of Stars of Chaos (Sha Po Lang) today!!!!!!!!
This story continues to get better and better with each book-- it was pretty damn hard to put down. Sometimes I was literally saying "OH MY GOD" to myself while reading.
Thoughts and ramblings under the cut (there will be spoilers)
First of all, the reveal of how Chang Geng was given the wu'ergu as a child... dear god that was so disturbing and horrifying... just 100% nightmare fuel.
I loved how Gu Yun reacted to this though, his absolute compassion and heartbreak and love for Chang Geng despite him being possessed with the evil god. Actually I loved Gu Yun even more in this book overall. I can't believe I wasn't all about him in book 1 what was I thinking???
Chang Geng continues to be such a fascinating character. I can never get tired of his scheming tbh, and the way he can be scary and sneering or placid and heroic (and sweet to Gu Yun)... I just love all the facets of his character. Also, his deteriorating mental and emotional state in this book has been heartbreaking to watch. Somebody help my boy!!!!
Chang Geng and Gu Yun together in this book just stole every scene. I mean what else is new but oh, in this book??? Their romance has ramped up to 11 and it's riveting and complex-- sometimes sexy as hell, sometimes heartbreaking and sweet, sometimes funny, sometimes painful, but always they just love each other so much. I especially love how Gu Yun promised to never abandon Chang Geng if he goes mad-- instead he'll break his legs and lock him up and Chang Geng is into it lol.
And sidenote, Chang Geng being so horny and kinky and Gu Yun's fairly vanilla tastes being scandalized is so freaking funny omg.
The plot, too, has got me so so bad!!! Not so much with the Westerners/war part but with the court maneuvering and gathering of power that Chang Geng is doing. I'm so stressed out!!!!!! But also so invested like never before-- like I love the scheming and the manipulations and I do think Chang Geng would make a better ruler than Li Feng, but also can this really be a good thing if he succeeds? There's the wu'ergu to begin with, the little crown prince who'd need to die for him to rule, and Gu Yun's loyalty...
In this book we've seen Gu Yun dream of retirement and take better care of himself because he wants a future with Chang Geng, meanwhile Chang Geng is helping the nation while laying groundwork for usurping the throne... but is the throne actually his goal or not???? Sometimes I'm not 100% sure???
And honestly I don't even know what I want to happen at this point when it comes to the plot. I think I like Gu Yun's retirement idea better than Chang Geng's apparent eye for the throne, at least in theory, but a part of me also wants to see Chang Geng succeed and step on everyone and sit on that throne...ahhhh I'm so conflicted...
I feel like I need to reread the last few chapters because I know there were layers there-- both with Chang Geng's plans and motivations and in Gu Yun's reaction to it. That flute scene alone omg.
All I know for sure is I'm scared and I'm ready for more lol.
Another thing: Shen Yi. Shen Yi is a real one on so many levels and I love him. The way he figured out that Gu Yun and Chang Geng had sex pretty much instantly was hilarious. Also, I really hate that his shitty family is trying to force him into marriage; I do not want him trapped like that for political bullshit. I hope he gets out of it!!! The only person I could see him marrying rn is the doctor girl, Chen Qingxu. But maybe I'm seeing things?
Also, what is up with the plague??? I really want to see the rest of their current investigation. Them going behind enemy lines in disguise was so much fun!
TL;DR I loved it and can't wait for book 4!!!!!

Current Tag Game
I was tagged by @twig-tea, @telomeke and @dribs-and-drabbles. Thank you 😊
Current time: 13:15
Current activity: just finished bringing laundry inside and am now getting ready to watch shadow
Currently thinking about: what I need to do in the next few days and whether the weather will be good enough to go for a walk in the park with my brother and his family on Sunday.
Current favourite song: I always struggle to choose a favourite song, but Prisencolinensinaincuisol by Adriano Celentano has been stuck in my head for a while now 😂 I saw this song on my dash and I can't remember who recommended it, but it is just so much fun. The conceit being that it's almost completely nonsense, but sung in such a way that it sounds like English.
youtube
Currently reading: I've been ill for the alst few weeks and so I'm comfort reading English translations of Chinese webnovels that I've read before (they can't hurt if you know what's coming and they have a Happy EndingTM). I have just finished Global University Entrance Examination by Musili and am trying to decide between golden stage, sha po lang, and copper coins to read next. I'm also halfway through Skinny Dip by Carl Hiaasen but it requires brain power and emotional energy, so it's on hold for the moment.
Currently watching: I'm not actively watching much at the moment. I struggle to keep focused with weekly watches (my brain much prefers binge watching 🤷) and am also struggling to access a lot of shows at the moment due to moving countries. Luckily, I have no issue with spoilers, so I'm vicariously watching ALL the shows through Tumblr 😅 This week I finally caught up on Kiseki: Dear to Me, which is as excellent as everyone has been saying. I have an incredibly long to watch list but I think I'm going to start with Shadow and then finish I Feel You Linger in the Air this weekend.
Current favourite character: Of the currently airing and watching shows I really love Yai - his gentleness just makes me swoon. My all time favourite character though would have to be Miw from 3 Will be Free. She's sexy, confident, smart, knows what she wants and goes for it. I want to be her and I want to date her.
Current WIP: I don't post anything original lol although I do want to try and change that. One of my goals recently has to be more involved in the wonderful bl community here on tumblr and so I'm gathering my courage and inspiration to write something.
I'm tagging a few people from my recent notifications - as always, if you've been tagged already or don't want to do it, just ignore this! If you haven't been tagged and want to join in, take this as your invitation 😉 @vera9, @dreamedofyou, @sorry-bonebag, @theflagscene, and @axolola

Meanwhile, Chang Geng makes his move in the imperial court, sweeping corrupt officials aside in an effort to stabilize the nation before it’s too late.

Spoiler-Free Review: This was a blast! Things really get rolling in this volume, both in terms of the overall plot involving Great Liang and the Western nations, and Chang Geng and Gu Yun’s relationship.
In my review of the previous volume, I mentioned how Chang Geng and Gu Yun’s relationship was intertwined with the wider events of the world around them. That’s still happening in this volume, but given that the stakes in those wider events are higher, it makes sense that the stakes in the two protagonists’ interpersonal relationship is also higher - as evidenced by certain events that happen in this volume that I won’t go into to avoid spoilers. Suffice to say that Gu Yun and Chang Geng’s relationship progresses significantly - though, it must be noted, still with plenty of drama.
In terms of wider plot events, the events of this volume turn somewhat inward, as it were, taking a look at how Great Liang is run, and how that has both helped and hindered the nation throughout history. This plays well into the elements of political and court intrigue that form a major part of this volume’s plot. Though I have very little knowledge of Imperial China’s political history, given how Great Liang basically IS Imperial China, I think it’s safe to say that the issues and problems Great Liang has in terms of governance are similar to (if not exactly the same as) those that plagued Imperial China in the past. It’s interesting to note how not only the protagonists, but even the other characters around them, constantly run into the various hurdles of that system of governance, with various characters trying all sorts of schemes and plots to get around the hurdles in their way.
At the core of all this lies an interesting question: What makes a good leader? All throughout this volume that question comes up time and time again in different ways, and always with different answers depending on the situation and the characters involved. The question isn’t quite answered by the end of this volume, but that makes sense given how the author appears to really try and approach the question from a variety of angles. It’s a fascinating attempt though, and adds an interesting thematic layer to the overall series.
One thing that still concerns me about this series is the handling of Great Liang’s colonialism (which is itself a reflection of China’s own colonialist tendencies). I previously hoped that it would be addressed, but I am beginning to think that it won’t be addressed at all. This is unfortunate, but also expected, all things considered.
Overall this volume builds on the story and characterization of the previous two volumes, creating interesting layers in terms of themes while also progressing both Chang Geng and Gu Yun’s relationship, and the war between Great Liang and the Western nations. While it’s a pity that Great Liang’s colonial policies weren’t addressed (and I now highly doubt they ever will be in this series, all things considered), this volume does tackle interesting questions around politics and leadership that are both appropriate for the past and the present.

genre(s): contemporary, entertainment industry
mediums: original novel on JJWXC, (free!) audiodrama by the 传奇火箭队 The Legendary Rocket Team on 猫耳FM
so full disclosure, I never read the original novel, and the 《弯弯》 audiodrama should be considered a lot of things but a faithful adaptation? lol absolutely not (their own words)
this is actually a 网配 wangpei audiodrama from 2015, and the energy on it is utterly unhinged. it is simultaneously a love letter to and satire of 非天夜翔 Fei Tian Ye Xiang’s novel 《金牌助理》 Jin Pai Zhu Li, a novel that follows the misadventures of hapless aspiring musician Xiao Yi as he finds a day job to pay the bills while struggling to make it in Beijing. said day job? working as a personal assistant to the extremely frosty, extremely handsome superstar actor Lu Zhou. absolute hijinks ensue
this audiodrama is far ahead of its time, and also completely upends traditional adaptation by rewriting the script satirically and cranking up the speed. I screamed; I laughed; I definitely missed a turn while driving. words can’t really describe this production for its sheer insanity, so I’ll just link it above and call it a day

Daydream In Blue by I Monster
I really do like I Monster ahahha
Currently Watching:
Peter Cushing hammer horror films (this is because I'm listening to a lot of I Monster and they're so deeply inspired by all of that that it makes me want to watch). Also two different overwatch unranked to gm vids.
Currently reading:
Ooh!!! List time
1. Sha po lang by priest. Excellent book.
2. Murderbot diaries by Martha wells. I just started this, but I'm enjoying it so far.
3. Tai sui by priest. I also just started this, but it's priest and translated by e danglars, so I expect an excellent time.
4. Uzumaki by junji ito. Timelessly amazing.
5. The dreams in the witch house by h.p. Lovecraft. This is so exceedingly written by lovecraft. I don't think I'm enjoying it very much, except for the way the main antagonist makes me want to kiss her
6. The haunting of hill house by Shirley Jackson. I've only really gotten a few chapters in, but I really really love it. The characters are so vivid. The sense of place even more so
7. Various short horror stories, mostly in podcast form
8. Various fic, most of it naruto. A bit of bloodborne too, there's an author that does exceptional non binary good hunter pwp
Current obsession:
Crusty old horror. Naruto, specifically Hashirama, Ino, Sasori, and Kakashi. Nathan the cat. Playing bass. Audio engineering. Being pretentious on purpose.
Tagging @glitteratti @tozettastone @mid-nighttiger @elfiver if you'd like to do it!!

Final thoughts after finishing SVSSS
I really like how the main story ended. Its very fluffy and I like how the antagonist reveal in the ending turns out to be Luo Binghe. I didn't expect that. Its short but its quite decent. You can tell easily the message of the story by just reading it and I recommend people to read it. My only gripe is Shen Yuan never tell them he's from different world and Shen Jiu is gone. I thought it will be revealed in the last side story but it didn't happened. Its interesting though that Luo Binghe always adore someone fake(?) but very kind to him like his adoptive mother resulting him treasuring the fake jade pendant and Shen Yuan in Shen Qingqiu's body. Like guy don't give a damn if they are not his biological parent or real Shen Qingqiu at this point. What matters is they are kind to him and love him genuinely.
My favorite side stories are Yue Qingyuan and Shen Qingqiu, and Deep Dream.
My top 3 fave characters 1. Shen Jiu, Luo Binghe (Bing-mei & Bing-ge) - I want them to be happy without hurting others 2. Yue Qingyuan, Liu Qingge - supporting characters that I love 3. Shang Qinghua, Shen Yuan - their narrative can be overwhelming sometimes because they side comment a lot
Fave ships: BingQiu (Shen Yuan with either Bing-mei or Bing-ge), YueJiu (The tragic ship that need to talk things out), LiuJiu (I can't move on from Shen Jiu actually wanting to save LQG but don't want to admit it lol)
As for the questionable part, I believe all stories aka the big 3 made by MXTX is Dark Romance Fantasy so being freaky is part of their charm. It just that SVSSS fandom accepted how freaky they are. I honestly don't really care what kind of kink BingQiu want in bed since they are consenting adults who have their own preference. Surprisingly, both of their preference can coexist in a relationship because SY is a monsterf*cker and LBH is into S & M roleplay so they are perfect. What about LBH's two faced tendency? Well, I love characters with duality so I like him more because of it lol What matters is his partner knew about it and genuine mostly with his partner. What I like about BingQiu is LBH always tell his insecurities to SQQ but he never forbid SQQ interacting with other characters. Its very cute that he only want 3 days to spend time with SQQ without any disturbances when they did the couple compatibility questions. Its very pleasing to see their communication development as a couple. I really love their cottagecore ending and how the Cang Qiong Mountain serve as their extended family. Like Bai Zhan Peak don't attack LBH when he's not in good condition so LBH seem like their disciples' sparring partner at this point? I really like BingQiu! They are the type of couple where you will only appreciate if you look at their nuance and only after you finished their whole story like You Yao's LouZuo or Sha Po Lang's ChangGu. I think its also have high re-reading value because you'll notice how wrong Shen Yuan's perspective all along.

I've gotten back into reading JWQS, and I just realized.
The last two (fiction) books I read most recently are She Who Became The Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan and volume 3 of Sha Po Lang by priest. Both of those series are alternate history military/political dramas centered partly on the conflict between China (or fictionalized not-china) and Mongolia (or fictionalized not-mongolia). SWBtS's protagonist is a girl (or someone raised as a girl, anyway) who has to live as a man to claim power and accomplish the one obsessive dream her life centers around. SPL's protagonist is a mixed race kid who aggressively allies himself with one side of the conflict after his home is ambushed and destroyed by the opposing side.
JWQS so far is also a political drama centered on the conflict between fictionalized not-china and fictionalized not-mongolia. (No military so far, but I'm only 20ish out of 300 chapters in). The protagonist is a mixed race girl who aggressively fights for one side of the conflict after her home is ambushed and destroyed by the opposing side, and she has to live as a man in order to claim power and chase the one obsessive dream her life centers around. There's a venn diagram here, and my girl Agula is smack dab right in the middle of it.
Hell, all three characters even seem to operate pretty similarly in politics. It's all faux-humility and bigbrained behind the scenes schemes and manipulations with these dudes. They're all clever and ruthless, and Zhu and Agula in particular play the public fool in similar ways.
I want to lock Zhu "Chongba," Qiyan Agula, and Chang Geng in a room together and see how long it takes until one of them goes one coyly effacing remark too far another one snaps and starts fucking killing. I think Chang Geng would break first.

Also yeah I did realize I contradicted myself ToT by saying I wanted a break from Silent Reading type crime mystery realism stories, just to immediately go find poyun in chinese and the English translation (which is by like 3 groups so I'm piecing together where to find all chapters) and then go on bilibili to watch fanmade music videos
;-; I remember the leak like YEARS ago now that potentially Cheng Yi and Liu Xueyi would play the leads in poyun 2 tunhai adaptation that was getting made. Which I assume may never see the light of day... (but that'd absolutely be Dream scenario if it existed)
I remember back then, the leaks also came for Silent Reading's drama casting. With fei du being picked fairly consistently, but Luo wenzhou having multiple picks with the actual guy in Justice in The Dark not being any of the rumored guys. I remember being SO excited and scared for it because I LOVE Silent Reading and feared it would get made so poorly, cast so poorly, look as visually yikes as Granting You a Dreamlike life etc... and also I figured if only X danmei got to air (word of honor and 2ha being rumored back then) then I figured modus certainly wouldn't make the cut. Because it was full of content that'd be potentially censored. Not just gay stuff but a Lot. And then like... like an absolute miracle, a completely unpredictable unforseen possibility. It actually did air partly. During a year when technically no danmei at all did (post Word of Honor), because League of Nobleman may be bromance but as far as I'm aware wasn't adapted from a danmei novel so it wouldn't have the same Critical Eye on it (I'm assuming it's more a dmbj situation). And those 8 episodes? They were good. They were better than I ever even dared imagining was a possibility. They were more than I could've ever hoped, so much exactly what I would've wished if I'd ever dared to let myself wish (which I didnt). And because of that absolutely unforseen surprise, I'm still very stubbornly (probably clownishly) going to assume some day the rest releases. Please.
(Though rationally I think... if big budget well made 2ha's Immortality airs, or Sha Po Lang's cdrama airs, there's hope for bl danmei/dangai show releases again. I say that because frankly so much money and investment of quality was put into 2ha's Immortality that i imagine the company's who own it would like that monetary payoff if there is ANY way to still air it eventually. And once it does air, it will be a temperature gauge: does it get so popular or so much attention in negative ways that there's Another long term halt of danmei releases, like right after Word of Honor? Does it release relatively calmly like The Untamed and pave the way for the plethora of currently-held danmei cdramas to get to air afterward? If the second option is true, then it's likely Sha Po Lang will air soon after... or wait several months so they get more of their own hype without competition, and it's likely the Eons of less Anticipated danmei adaptations start releasing again with less intense scrutiny like The Way of The Bat, Of Mountains and Rivers, etc. So I think... if Immortality manages to release and fully air, it'll set the tone of what is released after for the next year+. And that drama I find most likely to release next, just because there's a lot of money in it. Then I guess... the wildcard prediction is Justice in the Dark fully drops at some point like magic again, stealing steam and attention... or another unexpected smaller production danmei adaptation dares to drop. Then because it gets so much attention as an Unanticipated but Only danmei out, that'll set the tone but the tone will probably still be "NO more" until a big danmei airs. That's my thought process anyway... a reaction to a big danmei adaptation may predict if other less big ones are allowed to easily air again, or if there will be none for a while. I saw that Marcus guy mention that there were rumors of Immortality trying to release this summer. But honestly? Who knows.
Now. If you want to believe in something as illogical and senseless as superstition. I made a bet that Immortality would air when my health issues improved. And well. I ate pizza for the first time again in like 3 years. I'm seriously considering maybe lowering my medicine dose soon. So lol based on my Completely Illogical superstition? I predict a release for Immortality in August to September, if it's this year.
As for Justice in the Dark? I desperately hope the companies involved straighten up their mess, and re-release and finish releasing with no warning asap. I would like to hope it just all leaks accidentally like Joy of Life did. But I think it's more likely (although still magically unpredictable) the show will just suddenly reappear, as randomly as it did the first time. It's a Well made fucking show. It's like a good budget crime kdrama, it's fucking excellent. So i hope it sees the light fully eventually.
Anyway just... I'm nostalgic from when all the news of danmei adaptations came out... and against many factors, I still wish somehow they do come out. I'd love to see Poyun realized as a show. I remember seeing Justice in the Dark the first day, and just blown away beyond any assumptions I couldve had, that the show was really everything me and fan made videos alike had envisioned for the novel in shoe form, and more.
