“mi amor… just what am i even looking at?”

to say that sae was confused was an understatement. oh boy, he was beyond confused here. he came home from practice like every normal tuesday. tired, he just wanted some dinner and watched the soccer highlights but you had other plans. 

you grabbed the tired boy and pushed him on the couch. telling him to sit tight, you ran into your room and came back with your computer. hooking it up with some cables, you connected it to the tv. before sae could even ask, you pulled up a presentation

“i made this and it’s very important! you better listen carefully or else!”, you threatened and gave him a smile

he shrugged since he was used to you being weird and doing questionable things already. making himself comfortable, he read the title of the so-called ‘important presentation’ you made 

“why you should buy me tickets to watch lesserafim… have i heard that name before?”, sae asked carefully to not make you upset 

“you don’t know lesserafim?? i’ve been talking- you know what it doesn’t matter. just hear my reasoning”, you grumbled and moved on to the slide 

“you remember when you told me i could get anything i wanted for my birthday”, you asked

“yeah i remember”, sae cautiously agreed 

“so i decided that i want lesserafim tickets for my birthday! as a broke university student, it is difficult for me to afford it”, you read off your slides 

“i just don’t see where this is my problem? this lesserafim thing is something you like so i don’t see why i have to buy tickets. that’s not counted as a birthday gift”, sae replied 

you facepalmed yourself as you stared at the pro player, who only shrugged his shoulders. it was gonna be difficult but were you going to quit? nope 

“you’re rich! where are you even gonna use this money?? it’s not even that expensive. the tickets are only around $2000 without the commission fees and stuff”, you argued 

“only $2000? mi amor that’s a literal scam. you’re just gonna watch some girls sing and dance so you could literally watch it at home for free!”, sae said 

well… he technically did have a fair point. you could watch it from home. keyword: could. you agreed that prices were crazy high but the experience and feeling of being there with the crowd live was something no money could replace. you looked at sae in a pleading way to hopefully change his mind. the soccer player sighed before reaching out for his wallet in his pocket 

“just this once i’ll buy you some lukewarm concert tickets. gosh, $2000 for just a performance that you’ll forget someday? why not just get a nice necklace or ring”, sae sighed in defeat 

you celebrated your victory as sae handed you his card to make your purchase. you quickly gave him a hug and constantly thanked him before giving him a kiss on the cheek. then you ran to your computer and began the booking process 

you were too engrossed to see the way how sae placed his hand on the same spot you kissed. a small trace of blush spread over his cheeks as he coughed to cover any embarrassment. watching you get this excited made every minute worth it.

he didn’t care how much money you asked. heck, you could even run your dream cat cafe if you wanted to with his money. he’d give up all his money just to see you smile- though he would never admit it and act all grumpy about it 

“i hope you made dinner or else i’ll take my card back”

sae glances up at you before looking back at his phone, frowning. “no sé.”

you bite back an aggravated sigh, brows knitting in annoyance at his response.

recently, sae has developed the habit of speaking in spanish when he’s mad at you.

(he used to give you the cold shoulder, but he realized it started to backfire when you ignored him in return, so he settled for making sure you had a hard time understanding what he was saying instead.)

you lean against the couch, “how do you feel about getting some pizza?”

he doesn’t look at you, “no quiero.”

you make a face, “stop being so difficult.”

he turns to look at you sticking his tongue out, his brows knit in anger.

a frustrated sigh leaves your lips, your head dropping against the couch cushions. “you can’t stay mad at me forever!”

“sí puedo.” your eyes close in annoyance when you feel him glaring at you.

you lift your head up to look at him, glaring back. “i already apologized!”

“it wasn’t sincere!” he huffs, angrily turning away from you and crossing his arms.

a triumphant hum leaves your lips, a satisfied grin settling on your lips. sae turns to look at you with thinly-veiled curiosity.

a mocking huff of laughter slips past your lips and you stick your tongue out at him in satisfaction, “you stopped speaking in spanish.”

his face flushes, his eyes widening in realization before he glares at you again. “no i didn’t!”

“you did it again!” you hide your mouth behind your hands in a feeble attempt to hide your laughter.

a pout grows on his lips, the tips of his ears flushing, “…mentira.”

you slump against the couch, “what are you even mad for anyway?”

sae makes a face, looking away from you. his brows furrow even further as you stare at his cheek.

“…no sé.” his voice is laced with embarrassment, the tips of his ears a bright red as his cheeks slowly flush.

(you don’t need to know what he’s saying to conclude he doesn’t even know why he’s mad. it’s somehow even more annoying.)

confused frustration writes itself in your face, “why are you still being so petty, then?”

“i’m mad at you over something!” he groans, running a hand down his face.

“you wanna know what i think?” you smile.

“no.” you think it’s funny how he still says it in spanish.

you lean closer to him, “i think you should stop being mad at me.”

he gives you a look. “no thanks.”

“sae,” you lean even closer, pouting, “i’m sorry.”

he turns to you, raising a brow, “sorry for what?”

there’s a best of silence.

“you don’t even know what you’re sorry for!” sae glares.

you glare back, “you don’t either!”

his face flushes a deep red. he looks away from you, pausing for a second before glancing at you shyly, “te odio.”

you roll your eyes. “whatever.”

(you also don’t need to tell him you’ve started picking up on what his words mean. or that you’ve started to secret my learn a few of them.

it’d be a shame if he learned yet another language just to be petty.)

“you don’t know what you did?” he looks at you, pouting.

“not really.” you blink, crossing your arms, “do you?”

his lips curl into a fine line, his face flushing before he clears his throat in embarrassment. “not really.” (you think it’s cute how he repeats your words.)

you playfully poke his cheek. “how about we forget what you were mad at me about and order food already?”

he cracks a small smile, “depends on what we’re getting.”

“whatever you want.” you cheekily smile at him.

(you both know he’ll end up choosing whatever you’re craving.)

a sigh leaves your lips when you stretch your arms out, reaching for your phone. “you’re cute when you’re speaking spanish.”

“oh yeah?” he sounds smug. it makes you almost want to forgive him for being petty. (but you won’t.)

a smile blooms on your lips your eyes sparkling with mischief as the words slip out of your mouth, “totalmente.”

notes: welcome back to "things i wrote on a whim when my boss wasn't at the office"!! apparently i write a lot better in english without much planning, so yeah. this idea came to me based on a personal experience, since i call my boyfriend "minha vida" (which is the same for "mi vida"/"my life" in portuguese) and i never really thought i could consider someone to be my life before him.

i really really hope you like it, and i wanna thank you all so much for all the love you've given to Unworthy (but chosen), every note and follower made me super happy! <3

and also, i'm so sorry if my description of the spanish culture is not accurate and for any english mistakes!

during his time in spain, sae learned a lot of things. mainly, how to improve his soccer career even more, striving to become the best in the world after already being the best in his country. 

he was a genius, of course, so it wasn’t really hard to learn the language or get acquainted with the city of madrid, which was a lot warmer than japan — in many ways. however, it was really fucking hard to get used to the customs of the spanish people and its culture, considering it was so different from the japanese. they were extremely welcome, and sae was anything but. if anything, he was even more closed than typical japanese people. 

in spain, people were always greeting each other with a kiss on each cheek, showing off bright smiles and making conversation with strangers. friends talked loudly among each other, giving hugs and always touching somehow. the concept of personal space? totally nonexistent. in short, it was weird. 

but nothing was weirder than couples. 

the concept of love was already foreign to sae. he didn’t understand how a feeling could envelop one so much and make it forget about the rest of the world. he didn’t know how such an abstract thing, with no sense of logic whatsoever, could be so overwhelming to the point of taking one’s life completely, until all you could see, think and feel was your significant other.

most of all, he couldn’t fathom how someone could become your life. 

“te amo, mi vida,” was what he used to hear an old couple say to each other. they were the owners of sae’s favorite restaurant, a small little place in the suburbs of Madrid, and always treated him with a kindness he didn’t deemed himself worthy of. 

at first, he wasn’t able to comprehend what the sentence meant. he could barely write it on google translate to try to get its meaning, and he didn’t really care enough. though, as the time went by and sae became more fond of the couple, he eventually gathered the courage to ask the woman about it. and he was very surprised to hear the answer. 

“it means ‘i love you, my life’,” she said, smiling from ear to ear and handing a glass of salted kombucha tea to sae. it was one of the reasons he adored the place so much — it was the only restaurant he found that served his favorite drink. 

the older itoshi could only stare, dumbfounded, and mumble, “…why?”

the woman laughed at the boy’s naiveté. “why, you ask? because that’s what he is to me.” 

sae only stared in silence, too stunned to speak.

“i… i don’t understand,” he confessed. it sounded silly, and kind of pathetic, but at that moment he didn’t really care. the woman gave another smile, this time an understanding countenance, and placed her wrinkly hand on his shoulder. 

“you will understand one day, boy. and when your person comes, make sure to bring them here, right? i’d like to meet them!” 

the soccer player wanted to tell her that it would never happen. that the itoshi sae had no time for foolish things like love, and he most certainly would never love someone so much to the point of seeing them as his life. his life was soccer, and his goal was to become the best in the world. 

there was nothing else. 

oh, how he bit his tongue. 

it was at the age of twenty two when he entered the restaurant once again, and this time, not alone. you were walking by his side, with your hand intertwined in his, chatting excitedly while he just listened. a small smile was on his face, and his features were impossibly soft, in a way they only got around you. 

you, who were light in the darkness, who were comfort after a long day of practice, who was the one he loved most. you, who was the definition of home in every sense of the word. the only one that could make his heart swell so much it made it hard to breathe. 

he pulled your chair for you to sit like a true gentleman, and sat right next to you, always in need to touch you somehow. a hand was placed on your thigh while the other one opened the menu. and he turned to you, voice gentle like you could break:

“so, what would you like, mi vida?”

you, who was his life.

Three kids. Simple. You two bred artistic kids, one an artist, one a singer and your youngest son a soccer player just like his father. Isagi is a proud! Proud! Father. He always brags about his kids then gets teased because they mostly look like you. He doesn’t care though, he loves how similar his kids are to you. What he doesn’t like is how the four of them compete to please you, make you happy, do things for you, they always compete on a daily basis. And Isagi is childish about the whole thing.

Sae Itoshi

Two kids. A set of twins, twin GIRLS to be exact. You know usually the girls share their mothers attitude and wit but with your daughters they are their father’s successors. THE AMOUNT OF SASS AND ATTITUDE IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD IS CRAZY. And what makes it worse is that he taught them Spanish for whenever you all take trips to Spain so when they’re really mad at each other they start yelling in Spanish. You were never really fluent in the language so you’d stand there confused when they’d be speaking too fast. But they were soccer prodigies just like their father, the best thing about it was that they would leave to go practice and you’d have the house to yourself.

Nagi Seishiro

Here me out….six kids . Why? BECAUSE HE IS TOO FUCKING LAZY TO PULL OUT!! He kept saying one more kids will be fine and then you end up getting pregnant with triplets. You only had one set of triplets which happen to be your youngest kids and you told him that if he didn’t pull out you were going to stop having sex with him. He took that threat too serious. The big quirk that your kids got from their father is their clinginess, it’s the triplets. They are the most clingiest with him and he hates and loves it. When you two are laying in bed at night he’s clinging, laying his head on your boobs complaining about how HIS kids won’t leave him alone. Especially when he’s trying to play his games, you just smile and laugh it off because even though he complains he still plays with them and ends up passing out with them all laying around him. Nagi has to be one of the best laziest fathers out there.

Mikage Reo

Two kids. He’s an only child and didn’t want his kids to be lonely. One son one girl. That’s how he wanted it and he was happy. He spoiled his children whenever they did something good and he never made them do anything they didn’t want to do. Both of his kids didn’t want to play soccer actually but they loved going to games because their dad and uncles (Nagi, Isagi, Bachira, Chigiri, Kunigami) played with him. At first he was hesitant about bringing his kids around his parents but he soon warmed up to the feeling and always jumped at their offer to babysit so that he could take you on dates. That’s one thing he was adamant about, he wanted to keep treating you like the queen you are and continue to make you happy.

Itoshi Rin

One. A boy. He was half convinced his own child hated him. Your son always and never failed to cling onto you no matter what, he was a shy pretty little boy who looked like his fathers twin, he looks like Rin when he was a child. Rin actually cried to you about it once and when you talked to your son about it he said that whenever he tries to hang out with his father he always looks pissed about something. This is when Rin comes home from practice he always reviews film for at least thirty minutes and criticizes himself. Now instead of immediately coming home and doing film he spends it with his son and their relationship has gotten so much better to the point where your son doesn’t cling to you as much.

Bachira Meguru

Four. Four little crazy angels just like their father. They LOVE LOVE LOVE their grandma, hell most of them looked like her which you were kinda jealous of but you ignored it because they also mostly looked like Megs. He absolutely adores his kids and you fell in love with him more because of it. You only have one daughter so Bachira every two weeks takes her out on a daddy daughter date so that she can feel special while you sit at him doing flips and shit with your over eccentric sons. Mostly you four just do dance parties then they help you cook dinner which just happened to be your tradition even while they were still in high school. But they got jobs and wanted to change it to them taking you out to a fancy restaurant. And Bachira always had someone to play soccer with, he wasn’t out in the front yard passing to himself anymore.

"Hm? What's this?" Sae curiously eyed the mysterious box laid out on the table, before shifting his gaze towards you with a raised eyebrow.

You said nothing, other than silently gesturing for him to open it with an encouraging smile on your face. Sae complies, albeit hesitantly. As he carefully opens the box, his eyes widen slightly in surprise.

"Cake?" He blinks, confused. Sure, you were full of surprises (literally), but you getting him cake was completely out of nowhere.

Four different slices of cake to be exact.

"Do you like it?" You looked at him expectantly, absent-mindedly drumming your fingers against the mahogany table.

"I would've gotten you four whole cakes if I could, but those were too expensive so I had to settle for these." You sheepishly grinned, grabbing a plastic fork that came along with the cakes.

"Here, I got them each in your favourite flavours, which one do you wanna eat first?" You handed Sae a fork and a paper plate, who was still dumbstruck from the surprise. "Come on Sae, before I decide to eat them all myself!" You nudged him playfully, before taking a small bite out of the strawberry shortcake.

"Why…" Your boyfriend began to speak, pursing his lips to form a small frown, he didn't look upset or annoyed at all however, he looked… thoughtful.

"Why did you get me these?" He asked blankly, with no hint of any emotion behind it. It made your stomach twist, oh no, does he not like sweets? That could be the reason, he was a renowned athlete after all, a prodigy.

Why did you even bother to try?

"I uh, just wanted to surprise you, y'know?" The words begin to choke in your throat, your cheerful smile falters a little, something chips away inside you, it's heavy, and it tugs at your heartstrings uncomfortably.

"I missed you, a lot."

Ah, he realises.

Four cakes.

Four years.

Four miserable years that he's been away, from his home, his brother.

From you.

And suddenly, you find yourself engulfed in Sae's slightly shaky, but warm embrace, finally. Strong arms awkwardly wrap around your body as you bury your head into the crook of his neck, sighing deeply in relief.

"I… I missed you too." Sae says, hugging you tighter like his life depended on it. Like you were the very air he breathed in.

"God, I'm no good for you, mi amor." He muttered softly into your ear, with how close you both were, you could now clearly see just how tired he was.

"Shush, don't say that. I wouldn't trade you for anyone else." You nuzzled your face into Sae's chest, shutting your eyes to relish this moment even more as you felt your lover press a gentle kiss onto your forehead.

You wished you could stay like this forever.

And you both did, kind of.

"So, can I eat my cake now?" Sae interrupted after a while.

"Wow, how nice of you to ruin the moment, genius."

"Mi amor, I thought you said these cakes were for me, no? Also that strawberry shortcake is mine."

"If you want, fine but- Hey, where are you going?! At least let me hug you for a little longer!"

[B] Best Quality Sae definitely admires your independent nature. He likes that you can be your own person as you go about your life and reach your own goals. It's an important quality for him because he needs a partner that can keep up with him as an equal rather than someone who will constantly rely on him. Sae also likes your work ethic. You're able to balance multiple things at once while still giving him time. He's a pretty busy dude as well, but he manages his time properly. I suppose it helps him feel like you're living at the same pace.

[C] Comfort He's not... really good with words and he lets you know that. Sometimes he does offer practical advice when you seem receptive of it. But in times that you simply need a shoulder to cry on, he'll be there for you. He might not speak much, but he'll hug you, hold your hand, and rub your back. He definitely gets you food to cheer you up as well. It surprises you sometimes how he's able to remember all your food preferences—even the ones that you only picked up recently. Similar with Rin, he gets you ice cream when you're down in the dumps or even when you're stressed out. Pretty much, Sae is a firm believer of actions over words.

[G] Gifts INSANE GIFT GIVER. Sae gives you gifts like it's nothing to him (it is nothing to him; he's rich, y'know). If he remembers your food preference, then best believe that he remembers every little thing that you point out to him. Show him a random piece of jewelry you found online? You'll find it on your nightstand a few days later. He's THAT type of guy. Of course, he has given you major gifts on your anniversary or on your birthday—stuff like rings and handbags. But he's also a frequent gifter—showering you with stuff every now and then (mostly clothes). His favorite gift that he received from you was a metal bracelet with a Spanish saying engraved on it's inner side.

[H] Hugs Truth be told, he'd rather hug it out than talk it out. Although, at first he wasn't a good hugger. He'd hug you back—stiff as a board—like you were just a buddy of his. But through time, he does get better. In fact, when you two are alone, more often than not he'll have you in his arms. Sae's also a big fan of back hugs. When you're standing up by the kitchen counter, he'll sneak up on you and wrap his arms around your waist. Or if you're sitting down (coding/playing Valorant again), he'll wrap his arms around your shoulders—asking you what's taking you so long. (Clingy sometimes, but won't admit it lol). Of course, this also applies to him being the big spoon and you the little spoon. We all know he has a thing for back(sides).

[I] Intimacy I know it's ironic since he's not much of a talker, but I feel like you achieve deeper connection by... talking. And it's not just the normal kind of conversation; it's more like the kind of conversation he'd only have with someone he trusts completely. It's the kind of conversation that he'd pour out his honest feelings. Sure, he'd still be using that same monotone voice, but you can tell that he's sharing things he wouldn't dare tell another soul. He's so stubborn and for what? He can be passionate if he wants to though. But I feel like you'd be a better kisser than him (sorry, Sae, just facts). He likes giving you forehead kisses though. When he does, then you know he missed you a lot.

[N] Nicknames He says petnames are for childish people. Oh, but watch him eat his words when he starts calling you "Amor". Apparently, it rolls off the tongue well, so you can't really blame him. It did come naturally though. Like one day he accidentally uttered that and decided to own up to it because he is not going to lose aura points right now.

[R] Rituals First thing that came to mind were your annual vacations. Well, you annually go out, but you do so multiple times in a year. You both enjoy travelling and experiencing different cultures, so why not do it together? It's an absolute must for you to travel on your birthdays, anniversaries, Valentines, Christmas, and other relevant holidays. He makes sure you travel first-class, of course. (Random thought, but I feel like he always posts a story of flutes of champagne on his flight... like wherever y'all are going.. soft launch vibes, y'know?).

[W] Wildcard He has a folder on his phone of just pictures of you (mostly funny faces and ones of you asleep because he's secretly a menace). He won't tell you that though. Also, when he has to make a "rare" post on his social media about you—like, say, a birthday greeting—he'll be typing and deleting over and over again because he can never come up with a caption that contains enough feelings, but not too much? Does that make sense? He's so prideful sometimes istg. But, deep down, he's so madly into you.

see...here's the thing about men speaking foreign languages. the first type is the obnoxious one who clearly learned a non-english language for the sole purpose of impressing women. the second type is the one who was born bilingual but unfortunately has been colonized to the point they only speak it through broken phrases. and there's the third type (the one that's hot) who subtly hints at speaking a foreign language and it happens to be the most unexpected thing ever. sae is like that. when you visit him in spain, he would be speaking japanese to you as normal, but then his landlady greets him good morning and he nonchalantly replies in spanish. you order takeout and open the menu to find it all in spanish, but he casually takes it from your hands and orders for you. ngl given rin's level of english, i think sae's spanish is also heavily accented. it's cute tho <3

itoshi sae, japan's boy genius, wandered the vibrant streets of madrid. spain became his second home. he was often told how he would sometimes smell like the spanish spices whenever he visited back japan. the warm sun shone the cobblestone he stepped on as he made his way around the little bustling market. he had nothing better to do so visiting the market helps take his mind off things 

the prodigy let his eyes wander around the bright lights and his ears tuned into a familiar tune. why did it sound so… home? snapping out of his thoughts, he looked at his corner left to see a man with a guitar. the street performer was strumming his guitar, singing a melody that tugged sae’s hopeless heart. my you. a song that dearly connected him to his lover 

sae didn’t realise when he fell into his own train of thoughts. the memory lane looked so clear to him and he didn’t hesitate to enjoy the times when life was simpler. he recalled the younger versions of him and you. there you were, sitting on his family’s balcony, wrapped around a big sweater and a guitar in your hand. little rin was sitting not to far with his pile of mangas and his girlfriend peeking over his shoulders to see the pages

“sae! you’re back early!”, you cheered waving at the boy who dropped his duffle bag to sit beside you 

“yeah”, he replied 

“i were just chilling here with my guitar and these two”, you motioned at the duo who seemed absorbed in his own world 

“you really do like them”, sae noted 

“they reminds me of my own sibling”, you reminisced 

“he’s still not well?”, sae asked, referring to your younger brother

a silent gap came along. you didn’t want to talk about your sick brother or else you’d start tearing up. sae visited him as often as he could to keep the younger boy happy. you were relieved to know that rin took a liking for your younger brother and often asked you to let him go with you. you strummed your guitar to the tune that you listened to by heart. it was your comfort song.

the older itoshi was brought back to reality after realising he was staring at the street performer for too long. the performer didn’t dare to make eye contact with the player and continue singing away his heart. maybe the face made might have scared him? 

sae couldn’t care. his heart was hurting. it was hurting so badly, he could imagine himself crying. he’s homesick. he misses everyone and it hurts. he wants to smell his mothers cooking, see his father read the newspaper, apologise to rin for being a jerk but most importantly, he wants to see you in person. 

no amount of facetime can make him feel better. he craves for your physical touches and kisses. sae never imagined himself being so down for you. you may have fallen first but he fell harder. listening to his heart, his hands slowly reach to his phone as he loads the japan airline website

maybe he can tolerate going back to that shitty country he had to call home but he knew where his actual home was. he begins imagining you standing at the airport with open arms for him. he falls weak into your soft hug without bothering to entertain the paparazzi. he just wants you

it seems faith was finally looking good for the pro player as he sees your name flashing on his phone screen. he quickly threw in a few coins to the street performer’s guitar bag, to which the latter tilted his hat in appreciation 

“hey, are you busy?” 

oh, that voice that made him melt on the spot. he felt his heart easen as he lightly coughed before answering you 

“no, i'm just walking around. you?”, he asks 

“i just drove rin to his training camp. what was it called, blue lock?”, you tried remembering 

“blue lock? never heard of it”, sae sighed

I wish I was joking 💀 but also I love getting these kind of questions, it lets me be indulgent about my AU! So thank you 💗

For context: I am writing a Kunigiri longfic set in 2033-34. This has involved making up fifteen years worth of post-canon life events for the principal cast. Barou doesn't feature prominently, but Kunigami recently revealed that he had a crush on the King back in their Blue Lock days.

Kunigami has moved on by now (like... reeeallly moved on), but Barou's still around, being his good ol' tsundy self. Does he have a partner? Well...

To figure this out, I had to remind myself who's actually on the national team with Barou and work through their dynamics. So...

Sixteen character backstories under the cut, eventually getting to your question.

The following characters have been named in Cassis Orange as being on the Japanese national team, in order of position/role:

This means that 2018 Blue Lock alumni occupy sixteen places in the squad (which should have 23-25 places). Probably two or three too many—ah well. I've alleged that some of the other squad members participated in the second Blue Lock program (which took place in... 2023, right around now lol). There's likely a few other older players from before Blue Lock's time, but it's really Isagi and friends' team.

Everybody knows team squads are synonymous with dating pools in Blue Lock. So, in considering who Barou might be shipped with, I had to think through where everyone was at in life, come January 2034, in my particular AU. Here's the lowdown:

Aiku (34) is currently working through his second divorce. He has a couple of kids. He remains good friends with his teammate Sendou (33), who plays for a Japanese club normally and does a lot of promotional work with sportwear companies.

Karasu (33), Otoya (32) and Shidou (33) represent something of a clique within the squad. The three play for French clubs, alongside Rin (31), who resents being mentioned in the same paragraph as them. Everyone but Otoya is outwardly single, as far as the media knows. Otoya dates influencers and idols.

Because Rin's home club is in France, he doesn't care to rent or purchase a place in Japan. Hiori (32), a long-time friend and Tokyo resident, agreed to let him stay at his apartment for the duration of the tournament. Hiori is single, and streams part-time. Players enjoy the juxtaposition between his gentle personality and the violent games he plays. He plays for the Kawasaki Breakers.

Sae (33) is based in the UK. He has won the Ballon D'Or twice. Although there's been speculation about the nature of his long-term friendship with Shidou, he refuses to speak about his personal life to the press.

Isagi (32) has lead his home club (Bastard Munchen) to victory in the Champions League twice, and he is widely regarded as one of the finest players of his generation. This World Cup will be the third he's contested, and his first as captain. He has stated publicly that third time's the charm. He is openly single, based in Munich. He started a charity to promote football in developing countries in 2027.

Bachira (32) has played for mostly Spanish clubs over the years. He's an advocate for youth football and does outreach work in schools both in Japan and Spain. He has auctioned his own artworks for charity. Not much is know about his personal life, despite his outgoing personality.

Nagi (32) was the face of Japanese football for the 2030 World Cup, in association with Reo (32). The two of them were inseparable following their days in Blue Lock, choosing to play at the same or neighbouring clubs throughout their careers. However, due to his father's untimely death, Reo stepped down from football two years previously. Since then, Nagi has been media shy. Despite his relative youth, there are rumours circulating that he intends to retire soon.

Niko (31) is a formidable centre-back who (with Aiku) forms the iron defence of the Japanese team. He's open about his neurodivergence and advocates for the inclusion of kids like himself in sports. It's understood he has a partner living in England, where he's based.

Fukaku (34) plays for a Japanese team, and has indicated his intention to retire after the 2034 World Cup tournament. As for Gagamaru (33), the man known as the world's best goalkeeper is notoriously reclusive. He is picky about what clubs he plays for, prioritising proximity to nature and the mountains over salary offers. As a result, he's mostly played for German clubs. Nothing is known about his relationship status.

FInally...

That leaves Barou (33) and Aryu (34). The duo play for Fiorentina. It's reported that the two share a villa together in the city's outskirts. Aryu has dabbled in modelling and fashion for many years, and his self-titled brand is steadily growing in renown.

Aryu speaks of Barou as his glamorous partner... but he calls next to everything glamorous, leaving the media stumped.

Barou, meanwhile, refuses to entertain fluff piece journalists and has neglected to comment on his relationship with the towering wingback. There is no record of any public affection between them both. However, the two are certainly very close. Last year, they both began sporting matching black rings.

SAE A LOAF OF WHITE BREAD HAHAHA no because i would defend him but even giving him personality in oaeu made him feel like he was leaning ooc?? like wdym he makes a couple of sassy jokes and suddenly he’s not even himself?? that’s just not a character i fw i fear…yeah the jjk ending was. well. it was something!! idk like i said i wasn’t super impressed at all honestly i’m probably not going to engage with much jjk content for a while just because the ending was so…yk. anyways i saw a really interesting video on tik tok (during my self imposed isolation so sadly i didn’t save the link) that was talking about how animanga tends to rely on the visuals aspect of the storytelling which allows authors to get away with much more simplistic worldbuilding that doesn’t get explained as thoroughly and this also seeps into the plot/characters as well and i really think that that’s something that impacted jjk — there were definitely points where there was more flash over substance (in my opinion) and the magic system is definitely unique and well thought out in some ways but also unnecessarily convoluted in others?? it’s a story that would not at all hold up as a novel which again different medium of storytelling but if key elements of the plot/world like cursed techniques such as hollow purple fall apart when you cannot physically show them to the audience (just think about if you had to read gojo explaining his technique and then he just uses it on paper SKLJFHS it’s so anticlimactic lowkey) then that’s a marker that more groundwork needs to be done 😭 people who glaze relatively basic shounens like jjk for being peak writing and having amazing character dynamics etc etc (in my opinion and this is controversial hence why i’m hiding it in our chats) need to go read like…actual books (or even light novels) because if you think that gojo and geto is the most interesting dynamic conceivable then i fear you are cooked because number one craziest mira take they are NOT that special/compelling/appealing to me like i can see why people might like them but they are so normal and average to me in terms of writing 😰 READ ORV OR SMTH whatever kim dokja and yoo joonghyuk have going on is 10x more fascinating (superior white x black duo sorry not sorry)

AHHHH my wrist is feeling much better today!! i tried to write smth and my body took a screenshot so i’m giving my hand the weekend off but she’s feeling much better already and same with my eye!! i can use my contacts again on like tuesday ish so hooray for that (i actually don’t mind my glasses as much as i used to in the sense that i don’t think i look horrible with them anymore and everyone actually says i look really cute BUT they hurt behind my ears because i’m not used to wearing them for long periods of time so i cannot wait to retun to my beloved contacts and seeing how i like)

i feel like mentally and emotionally i do NOT have the space to start smth new so it’ll probably be one i’ve watched before…cloy was the first kdrama i ever watched (only last december!! i am very late to the kdrama game) so it might be time to revisit that one since i haven’t rewatched any of the ones i’ve already seen yet 😩 i also really really liked a time called you so i could def go for another watch of that one 🤩 and i can’t rewatch yet because i literally just finished it in july-ish but i watched this one on netflix with my mother about a vet that gets psychic powers and has to team up with this police officer (tbh reader and noel noa coded) and i wasn’t expecting much out of it but it ended up being really funny so i do think that’s one i’ll probably watch again when i’m bored or looking for something silly to lighten my mood
