I know that talking about Louis’s history as a pimp can very quickly become an extremely touchy subject, and for good reason, but the idea that pimps have not historically been exploitative is. Just sort of not at all grounded in reality. Obviously there’s certainly a lot of variation in exactly what the relationship between a pimp and their employees can look like. But it should also be obvious that even if a pimp is not behaving in a way that is personally exploitative, that the system they’re a part of is still placing them in a position of power over the people who are working for them.
This isn’t bc sex work is inherently bad or that it can’t be ethical, it’s bc things like misogyny and classism and misogynoir still exist when you work in the sex industry.
#also ofc it’s v relevant to discuss how Black men have been stereotyped in the context of pimping and the larger movement to criminalize#Black masculinity in general#but also feels. kind of wild to try and have that conversation without addressing the fact that Black women have historically been deeply#exploited by the sex industry#like that is just. reality.#and granted I’m not the best person to speak on that but yeah deeply weird to just ignore that actually#iwtv tv
