Sometimes I wonder if my friends only like me when I'm a pushover. I'm really standing my ground on how immortality is unethical bc it will be based on the grounds of consuming other humans and their bodies to maintain immortality, and my friend is like "no." Girl. Even vegans are consumers (and they're huge polluters in their own way but that's a diff topic), like nobody exists without consuming something else. To be immortal would to be a MASSIVE consumer, and the only literal way to stay immortal would be to take other humans body parts. Even if the brain was the only thing left in a robot body, the brain will give out too. It is organic. It grows, hits it peak of existence, and it will start to rot like everything else. To be immortal, an individual (the brain) would have to take other brain parts as it needed them and I can't imagine someone pushing for immortality to care about murdering the homeless, those they deem worthy of death in hospitals, other marginalized people, etc. just to patchwork their brain up as needed. And at what point are they "them" anymore? You replace half your frontal lobe bc one hemisphere went critical, are you now two people? Point is, I'm tired of having my opinion about something not even real yet but also having the more rational opinion and a friend just clamps up because she wanted me to flat out agree with her or something.
#also nobody has achieved even 200 yrs of life on credible record. like immortality is just such a weird hill to die on when u will die lol#im tired of feeling like i have to validate my friend 150% of the time. sometimes takes are just luke warm. its ok lol#my 30s lolol#my friendships#we can be friends and have two different views on the possibility of immortality. like this isnt like how you feel about current politics#being optimistic about immortality is fine but you shouldn't clamp up just bc im pointing out a realistic part of this idea#ALSO it is kinda already real. rich people are living to their 80s & 90s while poor people die more frequently at younger ages#immortality will be classist and unethical. i dont feel like i pointed out something wild here
