any thoughts on cody and beth’s relationship? they did have the moment before cody’s elimination in island which ive always thought was interesting
I have soooo many thoughts about Cody & Beth, you have NO idea bestie.
So the incident you're talking about is how after Cody was wheeled to the dock of shame after being mauled by a bear, Beth kissed him on the cheek, right?
[Sidenote: Cody has been kissed by three people in canon, and none of them have been consensual. Poor guy.]
But back to Cody&Beth. She kissed him on the cheek, which usually indicates romantic interest. Yet they never interact again. Ever. Cody's not there for Action, and Beth isn't in WT. So this interaction goes nowhere.
And that's confusing to me, because it feels like such a Total-Drama ass ship. "Guy who liked the popular hot girl realizes that the homely girl next to him was the right fit." But if you're not convinced yet, allow me to walk you through it:
.Imagine, Cody's in Action. He can't go for Gwen because she's dating Trent, and despite what he said he's kinda glum about it. It's one thing to get them together, it's another to have to see them constantly.
Imagine Beth, who likes Cody, deciding this could be her chance.
And it works, because Cody is so-so-easy, and one girlfriend is better than no girlfriend. And this idea really appeals to me, because Cody's never had a chance to have a real relationship. He's idealized having a GF for years I bet, but how would he adjust to the reality? Especially when it's not the conventionally attractive girl he most likely dreamed of?
It probably isn't as cool. He and Beth get along fine, probably. They probably brag about each other. Not in a “yay I’m dating X,” but “Wow, I have a boyfriend, now!” and "I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND!!" It’s more about the status change than anything else. Cody probably opens every single door for her, and acts like he did smth. Beth is thrilled.
But maybe they start annoying each other. Cody can only keep up the gentlemanly person for so long, and Beth is not the most tactful person either. They don't hate each other, but it's clear the honeymoon period is over.
And Gwent is going on in the background, getting rockier and rockier, and Cody's probably like "if Gwen goes single, might have to make a few decisions." Because Gwen's still his dream girl, remember? I doubt he magically got over her.
And Beth overhears this or smth, and like a lot of young girls, she thinks it's because she's "not pretty enough." Cue angst, cue "glow up." It's a movie season, so why not parody the nerd girl makeover trope. And so Beth is dazzlingly beautiful, and Cody, inconsiderate Cody, probably asks why she can't look like this every day.
This can lead to two routes: Beth dumps him, and Cody has to learn from his mistakes. Which would be super cool.
Or Beth could get her makeover ruined via whatever challenge they're doing, break down, and say she's worried Cody won't like her anymore. And Cody's like "..." Pretty ashamed. And then Beth reveals that the makeover took hours or smth, and Cody's like "shit? i didn't know that? damn." and so he realizes how much effort she puts in, and that he's in the Wrong. That she's trying so hard to compensate for his own shallowness, and he needs to be a better person. Because it's his fault this happened. Very angsty, but leads to good moments with them both, where Beth gets to communicate and Cody gets to reflect. Maybe he even admits that he's not the hottest guy either, and he's insecure about that. Could be interesting. I really like hurt/comfort moments that challenge the "Comfort-er" to change their own perspective. And Cody has a lot of perspectives that need to be changed, imo.
But after that, uhhh…. I have no idea? Maybe they start geeking out together, and hopefully, just start getting more comfortable together as people. That'd be nice. But I don't particularly care either way.
When it comes to ships that aren't noco, I'm the writer who has like, "one good scene," and then the rest is hazy, lol.
Anywayyyy, I think Beth/Cody could have had a decent arc, and really portray the "teen romances aren't that cool," element perfectly. It would also make Beth a more sympathetic character because Cody is so ugh that he'd make any girl look better by his side.
I don't know why TD didn't go with it, tbh. Maybe Beth's kiss was just a joke to further illustrate her "Boney-Island-Curse" she ends up accidentally pushing Cody off the dock. Maybe they just didn't think Cody in a relationship would be interesting, which is fair. Maybe they had more important things to tackle. Maybe it was pretty privilege - I've tracked TD canon couples, and every girl on there is conventionally attractive, whether their man is or not. You could counter Harold/Leshawna, but that ship didn't really go anywhere. And even if it counts, it's still kinda SUS. But it also could be because there are very few TD girls that *aren't* conventionally attractive. So maybe that's why. Or maybe it's every reason all at once, or maybe it's something I haven't thought of. Maybe they didn't think of it at all. And that's fair. I don't think the writers can or should account for every errant relationship idea. So tl;dr: Beth/Cody could have been a really awkward teen relationship that people found relatable. It didn't happen, and that's okay. But it's still interesting.

Chapter Reviews: January 15-19, 2019 + more stuff on RoD
Desire & Decorum Chapter 5:
Eh, it's okay. I mean, I'm glad I get to dance with Prince Hamid and hang out with Briar and the other love interests. Too bad I couldn't afford to spend some time with Prince Hamid alone, but because I won't get a clue, no huge loss. I'll do it someday, however.
Great. Lady Grandmother strikes back and, surprise, she wants me to go back to Duke Richards. I just think there must be some way to knock some sense into her. What I'm also wondering is how power politics will also play into this story, considering the fact that she talks like her hands are tied or something. After all, Duke Richards has a proper title, direct family connections to the royal family, and the influence to tip things in his favor.
The Heist: Monaco Chapter 7:
This is a fun chapter. I love the banter between Sybil and Anton. It's like they have potential to be a couple or something.
Anyway, working with Sybil was quite fun. It was thrilling to break into Ulrich's house and grab some tools as well as intel. It took me two tries to impress me, but it was worth it. Learning more about her was great as well because it allows me to feel an attachment to her. Here's hoping I can get to know the other crew members as well.
High School Story: Class Act Chapter 15:
Trevor, Clint, and Natalie are just... ugh. Clint and Natalie should stop stalking Rory and start getting a life. I never like them since they first appear. They come across as desperate for meaning in their lives by using Rory even though not everything has to revolve around him/her. It's rather pathetic. As for Trevor, he can get out of my sight because of his hostility towards me.
I'm impressed that Myra is running for president, but I'm wondering who her rival will be and how the election has to do with the theater club. Judging from Skye's horrified reaction, the rival candidate is someone hostile towards the theater club or a generally unpleasant character. My guesses are Morgan Jennings (kinda unlikely because she keeps things to herself for most of the time), Trevor (considering his hostility towards the MC), and Ace de la Cruz from the HSS app.
Regarding Class Act as a whole, it's fairly enjoyable even though the quality isn't super good. I miss my old gang in some ways, but I've learned to move on. Besides, I hate the school club formula in the trilogy because of its repetitiveness. Class Act is fine except that the theater club members except Rory, Skye, and Erin are utter jerks for not believing me in the first place. I hope the next book will be more fun.
America's Most Eligible Chapter 1:
Despite my wariness for this book, it feels so good to be back and see Bianca, Derek, Guilherme (Adam), and Tabitha (Mackenzie) again. Same goes for Jen. I'm already liking Eden for her friendliness despite her argument with Heath. The fact that I get to choose my own title was a fun addition.
Great, Ivy and Vince are back to stir up trouble. A part of me thinks making her a villain is unnecessary because of the nature of the series being a light-hearted reality show. Whatever that is, I'll see if I can get back to her.
As I've said earlier, I'm rather wary for this book because Book 1 was full of broken promises and wasted potential, and I wonder whether the next book will be like this as well.
It Lives Beneath Chapter 15:
Oh, this is intense. After the warning sign that the love interest's fates are determined in this chapter, I realize that this is the point of no return. It's a good thing I spent my diamonds on this book, particularly building up everyone's nerve scores to Tough as Nails, acquiring all collectibles, and befriending all pets. As a result, all four love interests are alive and well, and the tools they have come in handy.
Oh hi Noah! Glad to see you on our side this time. Pity it costs diamonds to recruit him, but it's worth it because I need all the help I can get to keep as many people safe as possible.
Diavolos the horse is back as undead? Creepy. It's a good thing I didn't have to spend diamonds to tame him because Imogen does it if she can still control animals. I guess I have to low-key thank the Society for her power as I keep it with Imogen through high nerve.
As for Astrid's death, I find it karmic in some ways (killing Josephine, manipulating Pine Springs into submission, to name a few), but I'm not celebrating that. After all, she still cares about her daughter and husband despite being a horrible person in general. I'm glad she and her husband have humanity in them while not getting redeemed. The same goes to Pierce and Margaret Sterling in Veil of Secrets. It also reminds me of Jocelyn Wu making more room for her schoolmates to escape in ILITW.
With that said, I have this theory that Kyle Garza and Deirdre Mallory will reappear as zombies, along with Josephine's victims since Pine Springs's founding. After seeing Diavolos as a zombie, I guess it's possible. Another theory I have is that the zombie bears and elks used to inhabit the area on the lake before its creation, though the chances of them being Josephine's first victims are high as well.
In short, awesome chapter! Can't wait for the showdown and to get my hands on the rune armor.
A Courtesan of Rome Chapter 11:
By this point, I'm admitting that I don't enjoy MC's storyline as much as Delphinia's. In fact, MC's story feels rather dragged because of the lack of resolution on playing the senators against one another. To me, the highlight is seeing Victus meet Syphax, and I'm eager to see how it all plays out when they fight.
By the way, why is there the Colosseum? Shouldn't it be on Imperial times instead of Republican times? I get that Pixelberry will take historical liberties to suit the narrative, but the presence of gladiators doesn't excuse this inaccuracy.
Anyway, let's see what the next chapter will be like.
The Elementalists Chapter 14:
No surprise that it was a birthday surprise, but at least Atlas can be properly introduced to the main group. It was a great moment with him.
As for Beckett, I'm not surprised that he's the one using the mirrors, though with good intentions even when he messed up. When he said that joining the group was the worst thing that ever happened to him, I felt really uneasy about that. Shreya nailed it when he said it. I mean, how would you feel if you find out that one of your friends say that being part of the group is a horrible moment of their life? Becca didn't say that, and neither did Victoria or any of the more acerbic love interests except Nick Peralta (Bleurgh!) I might as well switch to Griffin, Shreya, or Aster.
Nevertheless, I still spent diamonds for the premium scene with him. I replayed other books in order to get 30 diamonds, in case it will be steamy. Imagine my surprise when I realize that it costs 20 diamonds instead. Well, it was kinda sweet but also a bit of a bummer that my MC got cockblocked just as things were starting to get hot and heavy. There's always another chance for him.
Speaking of the upcoming attack on Thief championships, I'm becoming more sure that the one up to no good is Everett Merkseyer. So far, he has a unique face and dismisses the idea of incidents during Thief tryouts.
Speaking of Ride or Die, I'm becoming more wary of it. I know that there are people, particularly on Instagram, who are excited for it, but I'm not. It's bad enough that there will be no option to pick gender despite the premise giving no excuse for that. It's even worse when the trailer was released because it shows the MC planning to abandon her perfect life just to follow Logan, which comes across as stupid. Chances are that if Pixelberry continues to shove Logan on the player, I'll just play for diamonds instead. Here's hoping Mona will get enough screen time and proper development.
