Mumbo walked down a hallway behind Drista. It looked like something Scar would have made as it looked more like a decorated underground tunnel than anything else. Stones of different types lined the walls and some vines and grass were present here and there. He kept trying to ask questions to pass the time, but Drista always shushed him. 

Since he couldn’t really have a discussion with her, he just looked at the walls around then that looked worn by time. Some ores were present in the walls, though they weren’t any Mumbo recognized. When he looked away from them, the redstoner could see what looked like the tunnel widening up ahead, likely to a room or sorts, though based on their surroundings, it could be more along the lines of a cavern.

He was right as when they stepped out of the tunnel, the ceiling was still made of rocks, but the room itself was filled with life. Trees of varieties he had never seen before littered the area. Leaves of blue purple and gold were scattered around and hanging on the trees. Flowers of every color. A small pond to the side, small lily pads covering a good portion of the surface. It was beautiful.

“Alright, a couple of the fam are headed over here to talk with you. Don’t go wandering around because this place is like a labyrinth and you don’t have the ability to get out yet.”

“You sound like you’re going to leave me here.”

“Cuz I am.” And with that Drista ran off down another tunnel that connected into the room. With nothing to do but wait, Mumbo wandered around the cavern, trying to not stray too far from where they had entered. He really decided to stay close when he saw what he thought was an armor stand wearing armor, slumped against a wall. When he got closer and noticed the skeleton within that was obviously not a reanimated monster, he made sure to run back and stay in place.

After he started to become a bit restless again, Mumbo was slightly glad to see people approaching him. All of them wore some sort of mask, which unsettled the redstoner a little bit, but he remembered how Drista and Dream had worn some of their own, so it must have been a Vault God thing. Come to think of it, Grian also showed off a Watcher mask once. Did these higher beings just wear masks?

“We do indeed. It hides the self and keeps us separated from those we… work with.” A chill went up Mumbo as he realized that they had just read his mind. “Yes, another reason for the mask, though that enchantment could be placed on anything.”

“Should I just ask questions in my mind then?” Mumbo asked, now trying to keep his mind empty.

“Nah, just Song being cryptic and stuff.” A new voice spoke from the Vault Gods and one wearing a mask that resembled a turtle slapped the back on the head of one wearing a mask decorated in music notes. “We can control it easy enough, some people just get used to various powers and tend to overuse them.”

Mumbo sighed in relief at the casual tone from turtle mask. He had no clue what to expect from whoever he would meet and assumed they would be very strict and cold people. “I see. Well, speaking of powers…” He trailed off, not sure how exactly to ask.

“Drista’s kept me updated.” Another new voice spoke. They gave a small wave when Mumbo tried to figure out who was speaking. He had to shift a little to see them properly, but taking a step to the side, the redstoner would see their mask which seemed to be a generic green alien. “You don’t want to be a Vault God, but you used your powers out of necessity.”

“I shouldn’t have any to begin with!” Mumbo argued. “I said no the last time Drista showed up and they went away. It wasn’t until I found Dream that anything happened again.”

It was quiet after he shouted, long enough that Mumbo was beginning to worry he shouldn’t have said anything.

“That does change things.” Someone in an earth mask stepped forward. “Due to Dreamon’s work with the abandoned Watcher he obtained.”

“His name is Grian.”

“Yes, that one. He was able to shield his world from the sight and hearing of both us and the Watchers. His abundance of power is likely what pulled yours out again, not true willingness.”

“Are you saying you can do something about it? I don’t want to be one of you. Grian’s a Watcher and he’s told me many times that your magics don’t mix. I lo- We’re… really close to each other. I don’t know what I would do if us being around each other caused problems.”

Again, there was silence from the Vault Gods. This time Mumbo wondered if, being able to read minds, they were communicating telepathically. “I suppose there is something that could be done.” One of them finally spoke up and Mumbo sighed in relief. “Masks are usually used as a limiter, that is due to enchantments, but others could be placed on it so it has the opposite effect.”

“That being?” Mumbo asked.

“It can be so that only when used will you be able to access your self as a Vault God. That being said, to do that, more than just powers would need to be sealed within the mask.”

“I would be able to stay around Grian though?” Mumbo asked, not caring about any side effects if it would get him what he was after.

One in a mask that seemed to house an entire galaxy spoke up next. “Yep, pretty much any Watcher if you really wanted to. I mean, doubt you’ll be around many, but hey, if you help out when we have to deal with… or I guess work with other Watchers, it would help.”

“Then I’ll do it.”

“Ey Big Geeeeee!” Tommy burst into the room, followed by Grumbot who had led him there. “Tubbo went with Sparklez to go see some of his family. Meaning time for you and I to get back into things. What are you thinking? New normal war to teach people things? Invitations to the upside down? Take people on base tours and blow their minds? Or maybe we go with the tried and true chicken bombings?”

Grian just rolled over in bed. “Noooo. I wanna go but everything’s catching up to meeee. I’m a messssss.”

“Dad is feeling sick from bad magic that was left over in your world.”

Tommy sat down and slumped. “Great, another thing Dream messed up. Can’t you just do some shit to get rid of it and be better already? The longer we wait, the less fun it might be.”

Grian gave a small hum as a signal that he heard Tommy. “Yeah. Left it on a table. Mask I was wearing when you stabbed me.” He pointed in a general direction and Tommy left to grab it. While he waited, Grian curled up more, wrapping his wings around himself. He was glad that the feathers helped muffle the sound around him which was starting to give him a headache. Stupid living base that you could hear everywhere.

When Tommy returned, he tugged gently on one of Grian’s wings. Because of the avian’s current state, he panicked and hit Tommy away with the wing. The blond was pushed back, glad his armor negated whatever damage that would have caused. “Sorry for startling you. I found it.”

Grian took the white mask from Tommy and put it on, glad that it started to block out whatever was making him feel sick. “Oh, that’s much better. So, what were your ideas again?”

Grian, Tommy and the bots were enjoying themselves as they returned to Mumbo’s base. Jrumbot was admiring the diamonds he had scammed someone out of while Grumbot put away the last of the discs he had been playing around, making sure he couldn’t be seen while they played, confusing whoever heard them. Tommy had emptied a shulker box of eggs onto the smp island and Grian had placed signs all over the place with cryptic messages.

“Oh man. We need to get Mumbo and get him to drag some people into Hermit Challenges.” Grian said through his laughter.

“I dunno. Me and him aren’t really on the best terms right now.”

“I know, but that’s exactly why you should do it. It’ll give you the chance to clear the air and ask why he was so upset.”

“Daddy yelled at us too.” Jrumbot looked up briefly from his diamonds. “Auntie Stress took us to see him but he got upset and wanted us to leave.”

“I wasn’t able to get a good look, but he had seemed scared. People tend to have different reactions when they are scared. Some get angry, others panic, even more just hide it.”

Grian picked Grumbot up in one arm and nuzzled him. “And we’ve all been through a lot so we know that. Mumbo hasn’t been through nearly as much. It would be better if it never happened, but the fact that it took so long is a good sign.”

“I guess.” Tommy responded, but he still seemed upset.

Just before they reached Mumbo’s base again, there was a burst of energy that came from it and Grian narrowed his eyes behind his mask. “They were told to stay in your world.” Then before Tommy could ask what Grian meant, the Watcher set the bots down and shot up into the sky so fast he left some feathers behind.

He scanned the base until he spotted a figure and dove towards it, landing nearby. “You shouldn’t be here. This is Watcher claimed. Get out before I make you!” He almost growled at them. He was prepared to shove them through a rift to send them to smp island and then throw them through the portal when the figure turned.

They wore a familiar suit, except for the fact that it was stained a bright red color. They wore a metal mask with piercing red eyes, and most importantly, a mustache. “Grian.”

Grian’s eyes widened. “M-Mumbo…” The Watcher felt himself start to cry. This couldn’t be happening. Mumbo had said no. Why would he change his mind? And he had protected Mumbo so this could never happen? So why had it? “Mumbo… please… why? Why would you-”

He didn’t get to continue as Mumbo pulled the mask off his face and discarded it by letting it drop to the ground. He followed it, collapsing to the floor and Grian rushed to him. Before he could do anything though, he noticed the lack of any foreign energy in the air. “Oh Mumbo… I’m sorry I thought you said yes.”

Second hardest 180 of my life

Thanks @talisbirthdaychallenge​ for prompting me to write again, it was a long time since I wrote a bit of fanfic and I had a great time. Besides, this is such a cute way to celebrate Tali and to bring together creative and talented people in this fandom.❤️I incorporated the birthday cake, the zoom call, the head-slap™, an old inside joke, a blood relative on Ziva’s side, a pie to the face (actually cake if it counts), a song that makes me think of Tiva, an airport, a new dress and someone laughing until they cry. 

English is not my native language so maybe I may have left some accidental mistakes or wrong idioms lol.

“Imaa, where is my brush? I told you I would pack my own toiletries and..” How agitated Tali was. Being and 18 year old headed to college was not and easy task. She sat down on the bed, Tony watching from the doorframe.

“Slow down Tee, we have still plenty of time to figure out what you will put in your college boxes, besides, today we celebrate your birthday with grandpa Gibbs isn’t that exciting?”

He received death stare from his daughter. He did not expect parenting a teenager would have been this hard. Yes, Tali sure has always been a very sweet and kind child but since she wasn’t a child anymore, her character changed, her true colors started to show. Sometimes she reminded him of himself when he was her age but she most definitely inherited her mum’s sassiness along with the bravery and kindness.

Tony watched her as she slowly began to soften her expression. Although she was soon off to college, she would forever be his little girl, the same one that he watched sleeping every night in their tiny Parisian loft. Things changed since they moved back to DC when Ziva joined them again many years ago but he couldn’t help but keep on seeing that little girl in her.

“Yeah, I guess” she smiled. “dad?”

“mhh?” 

“will you and Ima miss me when I go away?”

In that exact same moment Ziva reached her husband. She took his hand.

“Of course Tali, nothing will change and you know you will always be welcome back home”

“Besides” Tony interrupted “I’ll miss having someone around who actually gets my jokes and has the same taste for movies” he said teasingly. They all hugged as Tony begun tickling his girls. He knew they both had that week spot and he loved hearing their giggles. He always knew his wife had a soft side to her and seeing her grow through the years as a mother made it clear to him that he wouldn’t have wanted anyone else by his side.

It was tradition like every year that the whole family reunited to celebrate Tali’s birthday. Of course it would have been at Gibbses place. Oh how much he spoiled that little girl of his. He cherished every moment with his grandchildren, Victoria, Tali and the twins but somehow Tali was the special one, also given the  delicate situation she had been through.

Also like every year it was a tradition that Senior would gift Tali a dress for her birthday and that year would be no different. He had a good taste and always sent the best fabrics for his favorite granddaughter. Her light blue knee length long sleeved dress matched perfectly with her light olive skin, and the dark blue dots were absolutely delightful, matching her bubbly personality. 

Tony and Ziva decided back then that it would have been better for Tali and for them settle down definitely in DC, since a little help from their friends would always be nice. But through the years it was clear they made the perfect choice seeing how much Tali and Gibbs had bonded. She spent many afternoons after school with him since he retired from NCIS, and came to swear to know the secret to how Grandpa Gibbs got the boats out from his basement, to which Tony tried to get it out from her in every way.

“Happy birthday Kid” Gibbs hugged her as they arrived at his home. He hugged his two former agents, who he considered his kids all the way. Not always had there to be blood to connect people as family, especially at NCIS. Unfortunately a difficult case at work kept the rest of the fam from coming but there was another surprise for Tali. On a pc Mcgee managed to instruct Gibbs on how it functions there was an Incoming Zoom video call.

Tali could not believe her eyes : “happy 18th birthday dear Tali” Uncle Tim, Uncle Jimmy, Jack, Ellie and her husband Nick the wuss, as Ima still jokingly called him, were all there. She was soooo happy gosh that was a nice surprise. They excused themselves for not being there and Tali understood because she knew what being a very special agent meant.

They opened presents, ate and laughed, even more so as Gibbs presented his homemade cake. And since it revealed itself to taste horribly, Tali and Ziva could not resist but smash some cake into Tony’s face. It was such an hilarious scene for everybody except for Tony who desperately tried to remove it from his hair. It was a long time since Gibbs had seen such an hilarious episode and what was even more rare was seeing tears forming in Gibbses and Tali’s eyes, they could not stop laughing at Tony. It was one of those moments which Tali would have cherished for the years to come.  

Late night arrived. The evening at Gibbses place had been great but back at home Tali started to become more and more agitated. Her parents immediately noticed.

“What’s wrong mon coeur? Is everything alright?” Ziva’s mom senses jumped in.

“yeah it’s just… I was wondering- her light brown curls now shaking with her head- i was just wondering what if I wanted to become and agent like you and Dad and Gibbs and everyone else?” Tali knew it was a very hard topic to touch since she heard her parents argue several times over which path would have been best for her. She was now old enough and really wished her parents knew what she longed for after college, the fact that that world has always called for her.

Tony and Ziva looked at each other knowing that maybe that moment would have come.

“well Tali you must know that when I was introduced to the team I was still very young and it all happened when”

 “yeah i know when uncle Ari was sent here to kill Gibbs I know the story Ima”

“yes. When we talked about you taking this path we were afraid, you know it’s a work full of threats and”

“and full of pretty coworkers” Tony added smirking.

Ziva smiled to his husband annoyed. “that’s not the point, but you get it Tali. We don’t want you to get hurt but…if that would make you happy then we’ll support you and of course, you would learn from the very best.”

“like your mother said I was once Very special agent Anthony DiNozzo and…” he was shushed by his wife throwing a big pillow at him and everyone bursted into a laugh.

“my Tali remember, you will be everything you are meant to be” Ziva caressed her daughter’s cheek.

 “thanks Abba, Thank you Ima” how grateful they were for their not anymore little girl.

The day arrived when they had to accompany Tali to the airport. It took Tony all of his power not to cry at the breakfast table as he hummed “slipping through my fingers” from Mamma Mia in his head. Ziva on the other hand was better at hiding it, even though she always hated goodbyes. Well it wasn’t technically a forever goodbye but knowing that the nest would be empty from that moment on left a bittersweet feeling In her.

“i can’t wait to meet my roommates” was all Tali could say as they were about to say goodbye, her eyes now watery but full of resolution.“i will miss you but I’ll promise I’ll call as soon as I land.”.

“And if any boy tries to break your heart you’re still going to tell your old dad aren’t you Tee?” Tali promptly head-slapped her dad just like Gibbs did for many years. it was actually the very first time she did it and it felt oddly satisfying. they could’t help but laugh.

The family hugged one more time before parting. As they were walking away Tony had to intervene:

“Funny how this is the second time I leave from an airport without Tali” a nod to that evening at the tarmac. And again “guess this is the second hardest 180 of my life”.

His wife stared lovingly at him. “she will be fine, let’s go home Tony”. She rubbed his back ant took his hand. Everything was okay.

So, here is my predicament. A person wrecked into my car (while it was parked) and her Insurance Company (State Farm) has already sent out a person to do estimates and told me it is a Total Loss, which is fine, they offered me a lot more then blue book says, BUT my issue at the moment is, they told me I need to get my registration up to date before they would deal with me anymore (Was expired by a month cause my lack of insurance). His old company added an HSA for us in December and we were under the impression everything was fine with employment if they added this for our family. I have a question regarding car insurance. I'm 29 years old. I've been in 3 car accidents but was not at fault for any of them (2 of the times my car was sitting still! lol) and I've never gotten a ticket for any of those accidents. I used to have insurance through State Farm, full coverage for a 2004 Jeep Liberty that cost 50-60 a month in upstate NY. While driving to NYC one winter I got a speeding ticket, my first ticket ever! I was going I think 82(?) in a 65. This was just before I moved to NYC, and because I got the ticket in a podunk little county I was driving through I had no idea what the name was, the ticket flew out my door and I lost it. I figured they would mail me something else to tell me the payment was late but I never received anything else about it. Well I found out later it was because I moved, even though I moved about 2 months after the fact they wait quite a while to send another notice, and I never received it. Thus, my license was suspended but I never knew. I never got caught driving without it either. So I moved here in 2007 with my Jeep which I was very behind payments for, and then it got towed away for alternate side parking BS. I could have borrowed the money back then to pay to get it out but I let it go. Alright so long story short, I don't have the truck, it was auctioned. I'll be done paying for it through a collection agency settlement offer this May. If I had kept the truck, I would be paying 200+ more a month than I pay now, and I wouldn't have been done paying it til August 2011. Plus I would have had to pay to catch it up the 3 months I was behind, plus pay my boyfriends brother back who was willing to lend me the money to get it out of the car jail (lol) I had the suspension lifted last July so I could rent a car, again no issues. So I'm thinking of buying a 2,000 car (cash! I learned my lesson) in June when I'm done paying for the truck and I want to get no fault insurance. I know it will be a lot more here then what I used to pay, and in addition I now have a suspension that wasn't there before. Hey, I just got a full-time job that pays very well. I make roughly $1500 a month, and I was looking to get a new vehicle as a means of celebrating my new step into adulthood. The vehicle I was looking at was a 2005 Pontiac GTO. I'm 19 years old, so I would have to get my parents to help me with cosigning. That wouldn't be a problem, since my parents have good credit. Now, my parents said that they'd cosign if I pay for both the car payment and insurance monthly. I also pay $200 a month for medical insurance, phone bills, etc. The car payment monthly would be about $400 a month, so that would be about one check. in my feelings · a connection that is notorious for going round and round like a carousel. kehlani really likes this person, and they really like her, but not enough to show it as well as they could. whether they admit it or not, they’ve kept kehlani hooked on their line for a long time now. as much as kehlani tries to get away from them and move on, it’s only a matter of time because she answers their calls and the cycle starts again. this person has done some critical damage to her self worth, the longer they toy with her, the longer she quietly lowers her self esteem. 

piece of mind · during their relationship, kehlani eventually grew to be miserable. the drama between them was always constant, no matter how many times she tried to keep the piece they just couldn’t stop fighting. hurtful words were always thrown during arguments, their phones were always blowing up with texts during fights, and everything was blown out of proportion. after the fights, they would come back down from their anger and realized what they were doing, often trying to cover it up with romantic gestures to get her to forget. 

not used to it · holy feelings batman, kehlani has got it bad! she’s full on in love with this person but with the love comes crippling fear. she hasn’t been given a lot of reasons to trust people in her life, which keeps her from embracing the feelings she has for this person. this person is paying for pain they did not inflict. she wants to give them a chance to show her something different, but always seems to chicken out. she probably comes close to letting them in emotionally but then clams up before it can really start. 

everything is yours · written half by her perspective, half by the other person. this person was kehlani’s first real love, so it was intense, and of course crashed and burned. it was inevitable. still, they used to make promises to each other that kehlani still thinks about. this other person promised that no matter what, kehlani was the person for them. even though she broke up with them, they let her know that when she was ready, she could have them back – no matter who they were with or where they were in the world. their favorite pillow talk topic? getting married one day. 

advice · kehlani fell for the wrong person, simple as that (although they may not have intended to be this way). there were a lot of empty promises involved, which eventually lead to their down fall. kehlani truly believed she was in a once-in-a-lifetime kind of love (and goes as far as to describe them as ‘the person of her dreams’) but was looking at the relationship through rose colored glasses. it just wasn’t healthy and she damn near went crazy trying to fix it. their break up was prolonged and kehlani felt as though she had the rug ripped out from underneath her. after their break up, the other person realized what their relationship had done to her and tried to be her friend, but it was too hard for her. 

do u dirty · this person pursued a relationship with her and (like a lovesick fool) actually expected it to last. they saw the good in her and not the damage, so in a sense they idealized her. they fell for her as hard as they did fast, which was a little too much for kehlani. she was just interested in something light and fun, and granted it still was, but it was not mutual. kehlani liked them for sure, but she didn’t fall in love with them. she really broke this person’s heart by giving them a special kind of love (the kind that always has you in your feelings long after its gone) and then leaving because it got too serious. her reason for it was that she was too young for something of that intensity. 

escape · this person is a good (read: great) person and kehlani knows it, which is why she likes them so much. and they like her too, and she knows it, but she’s not letting anything happen between them. why? because she sees the light in them and she knows she’d only end up dimming them. she’s let people get lost in her before, and she has lost herself in others, and she doesn’t want this person to be collateral damage to her destructive tendencies. she feels as though her love is a burden and this person is better off not being cuffed by her. she admires them romantically from a distance. 

too much · to put it simply: kehlani misses having sex/being physically affectionate with this person but does not miss dating them. this person walked away from something good, and while they both may miss it, she’s steering clear of falling back in love with them again. possible a exes turned frenemies with benefits because their chemistry is too good to deny. they can fight and fuck all the other person wants but she’s not interested in anything else. bonus points if they want her back and that’s why they fight a lot. 

get like · look out, y'all, kehlani’s got a crush! after being friends for awhile, these two are sleeping together. they originally started off as just drunk friends being just that but once they realized they had physical chemistry, it was all over for kehlani’s heart. for some reason, she decided to let her guard down for them. now they’ve both got playful crushes on each other and they’re just seeing where it goes. this person is starting to bring out the shy, dorky kehlani (an effect of her having a crush). 

distraction · it is what it is, and these two is friends with benefits. she wants to have fun with someone and get affectionate with someone, but she’s really focused on her own vibe right now and she doesn’t want anything else. this person and kehlani decided to have some fun without the strings (but does it last?) they hang out, they go on casual dates, and they have sex but there are no titles involved. bonus points if it started out that way but got messy later on.
