@ my mom
Love to see it when pathetic, entitled, and unrepentantly authoritarian parents cry about how their children completely cut them out of their lives as a consequence of their own terrible behavior.
Then they post about how miserable they are while also regretting not being authoritarian enough to prevent this, showing that they lack the self-awareness to even realize what they did wrong even though their children probably already told them.
Absolutely no sympathy for the parents. Huge win for their children.

Norman - 22194
March 21st is here and it’s time for yet another birthday post. I already rambled on about Emma and Ray on their special days, so now it’s finally time to complete this full-score tradition with Norman. It might not be as detailed or long as the other two, since he was absent for a good chunk of the story, but it doesn’t make him any less important! I’ll be honest now, the boy isn’t my favorite character (he doesn’t place anywhere in my top ten for this series either) so I probably missed some moments worth mentioning but I did my best to praise this child anyway!
(spoilers for the entirety of The Promised Neverland, so if you haven’t read/completed the manga yet, consider this your first warning, because I’m once again going from start to finish with this.)
Since I want to stay consistent with the other two posts, this will focus on the manga timeline, as season 2 is, well.. it’s own thing. I’ll mention some things but don’t count on much. With that, let’s go.
- He achieves a perfect score on Grace Field’s daily tests, alongside Emma and Ray.
- He is, without a doubt, the smartest kid the house has ever seen, as he passes each test flawlessly and has maintained a 300 average.
- He’s a complete strategist who is capable of achieving victory (even in something simple as tag) by observing his opponents moves and analyzing their weaknesses in order to counter.
- Knows how to pick locks. The scene from ch1 was left out but we see him doing so later on in ep02.
- Stays relatively positive and calm after learning about the truth of the farm.
- Even going as far as giving Emma a reassuring smile, which I think is impressive given the literal nightmare fuel they’ve just witnessed.
- I’m giving him half credit for suggesting the idea of there being tracking devices, since anime has him reveal this possibility while in manga it’s Emma.
- Both of them realize what determines the shipping order and that the demons favor their brains.
- This silly panel that I love dearly.
- Made sure to do a sweep of the entire house beforehand to make sure their escape planning doesn’t get pick up on.
- Figures out that Isabella only knows the children’s locations when she checks the tracker and that it can’t identify who is who.
- Has the nerve to lie right to Isabella’s face.. not that she believes it, but still gutsy nonetheless.
- Knowing the house probably wouldn’t have any rope, it was his idea to use the spare tablecloths.
- Had a feeling that Ray would reveal the harsh reality of how dangerous it would be to escape with all the children, which turns out to be correct.
- His laugh in ep02 is so precious.
- This statement being 100% accurate.
- Manages to convince the logical Ray, who we know now has spent many years coming up with a solid, safer escape plan, to join in and assist with their crazy and reckless plan instead. Having Ray on their side also grants them many advantages.
- Absolutely hates to lose, which is a good mentality to have in a world where your life is a stake and your time is limited, which eventually leads him to consider every possible opportunity to stay ahead of his enemies throughout the remainder of the story.
- Realizes that the trackers must only send out a signal upon being broken, which we found out to be true in Ray’s one-shot chapter.
- - Him looking completely terrified in this panel.
- He managed to catch all the Grace Field kids in a game of tag even after they received advice from Ray about how to survive longer.
- The goddamn intimidating energy he gives off here is fantastic.
- Despite his body being physically weak, he manages to survive and win against Krone during their game of tag.
- Just like Ray some couple chapters ago, Norman is completely serious about this idea.
- Suspects there’s a traitor among the kids and swiftly comes up with a plan to lure them out.
- This panel of him “dead” from the first side story.
- He has a feeling the spy is Ray, so he moves up the day of the escape to catch him off guard and send him into a panic.
- Even though the anime didn’t include it, he managed to throw off Krone as well with some fake footprints to keep her off their backs.
- Was honestly considering on leaving the spy behind while the rest of them escaped, though he doesn’t seem real happy about the idea, considering the traitor is Ray.
- His plan on fishing out the spy was flawless as he finally calls Ray out by revealing that the information he gave about the ropes and where he hid them were fake locations.
- Not only was Ray the first one Norman suspected, but he caught onto him way back when Krone first came to the house. All the information Ray was feeding them helped Norman come to this conclusion as well.
- Along with Emma’s words about believing that no one in their family is truly bad, Norman refrains from cutting Ray off to allow him to become their trump card. This was a risky move itself, knowing Ray could sell both him & Emma out at any time. Norman tends to prioritize victory, so while staying alive is absolutely necessary and that could’ve been achieved without Ray (as he could’ve just used Ray then ditch him later), he still decides to make the offer as realizes that in order defeat Isabella, Ray’s full cooperation is essential.
- Realizes that it was Ray who hid Little Bunny in the first place and lead Norman and Emma to investigate the gate that night, which leads him to believe that Ray isn’t really an enemy.
- He’s also left handed. Yes, that’s important. Not only for later in the story but because we’re superior. I’m sorry y’all had to find out this way.
- This stupid, little face he makes.
- Suspects that Ray doesn’t actually plan on escaping at all and intends to kill himself.
- Just like Emma and Ray, Norman also recognizes and understands morse code.
- Look at this precious child, not even angry after getting punched and knocked over. (because i certainly would be)
- Finds Ray’s hidden supply of oil which confirms the method for his future suicide. This also helps Norman later on when he comes up with a refined escape plan by using the fire Ray plans to start.
- Figures out Krone’s true intention about why she wants to join forces with the kids in the first place.
- He ends up accepting Krone’s offer anyway, because despite the large risk, any information that can snag out of her would benefit them.
- You mad lad, look at you, taunting the bringer of death yet again while a smile on your face.
- And he still manages to find some strength to smile while upon death’s door.
- Not for long though, as once he’s given the chance to be alone, he finally breaks down. Having the cup overflow with water really helps demonstrate how impactful the thought of dying hit him as Norman was overcome with so many emotions that he didn’t even have the strength to hold onto the cup or his facade. It’s then he starts to feel scared and sorry for himself but away from Emma and Ray’s eyes as to not worry them.
- His entire internal monologue as he comes to terms with his unfortunate situation and flips back to his determined “I can’t lose” attitude to help everyone else escape. Also, his theme ‘22194’ hits especially hard.
- For someone with weak, physical abilities, he manages to climb the wall on his own.
- Though the cliff stopped his escape, he used that opportunity to survey the surrounding area of the entire farm to rely his findings to the duo and provide them a safer escape route.
- Completely adamant about his decision to accept his shipment in order to give the rest of his family a chance to escape. (hell, id’ be terrified right now)
- This hug that is sure to break everyone’s hearts.
- Quick to react to Emma’s last ditch effort and prevented her from slamming her already busted up leg into the ground.
- Not only did he predict that Ray would start a fire to distract Isabella and on which day, he also left behind the pen and key he received from Krone along with a new, detailed plan (which he managed to come up with in only a few hours by the way) that would allow the kids to cross over the cliff.
(post season one spoilers below. again, focusing on the manga timeline, so any new season 2 events will be mentioned sparingly.)
- Like Ray, Norman was able to figure out how the pen worked well enough to see Minerva’s message regarding B06-32.
- Since he doesn’t show up again for quite some time post-escape, there isn’t much to talk about.. but at least I can make fun of him thanks to extra pages, like how he wouldn’t have enough strength to use a bow.
- But hey, props to s2ep10 for actually giving us Norman shooting an arrow. He was pretty decent with it too, as he hit his target on the first try behind a darn smokescreen. The manga did show him holding a bow in ch161, but that’s it.
- Not relevant to the actual story at all, but his smarts certainly make anything possible.
- I’m sorry but these tiny failures of his bring me great joy.
- Though the tests at Lambda are harder than those at Grace Field, Norman still managed to get every question correct. Every single day he was there. Even when the facility manages to increase the difficulty of the tests, he continues to pass each one with flying colors.
- Since he noticed someone who’s right handed also takes the same tests he does, he makes an attempt to communicate with them via a Rubik’s cube. He waits patiently for five months until he finally gets a response from Vincent around Christmas 2046.
- Dealt with the experiments/drugs that were forced onto him and the seizures that resulted from them.
- Even with the tight security and surveillance, he somehow acquired explosives and successfully blow up Lambda and escapes with the survivors.
- Again, not significant to the story, but seriously dude? You just fainted and yet you still get this crazy question right effortlessly?
(post time-skip)
- Contacts Lucas moments before the B06-32 shelter gets blown up and gives him the numeric code that eventually leads Emma’s group to the “Jaw of Lion.”
- Destroyed numerous mass production farms since his escape from Lambda.
- As well as save countless children from other farms and used the Paradise shelter found by Smee’s network to give them a sense of safety and taste of a normal life.
- The darn glow-up he receives, like sweet lord child, are you sure you’re still 13??
- - His cute, squishy cheeks though!
- He may look like he’s in his thirties, but still has the strength of a child. (see anime? this is how strong ray’s slap should have been!)
- Learned a great deal of demon history and gave that lengthy lesson about the demon’s genetics and how they inherit the characteristics of whatever they eat and evolve accordingly.
- With Emma’s wish about saving everyone and lively happily still on his mind, he thought of a safe and certain method in order to create such a future for all the children raised as food.. which ends up being complete extermination of all the demons caused by a civil war. His plan also includes ending the Ratri clan as well. How cheerful.
- Are you surprised to learn that Norman getting tackled by the younger kids is my favorite panel of him?
- You weak, little bean, I’m sorry I enjoy making fun of you so much.
- Successfully forms an alliance with Lord Geelan and his clan by offering revenge on the royal family, the five regent houses, as well as the Ratri clan, thus putting Geelan in full control. In return, it would grant Norman the full release of farm children, permission to self-govern and some much needed power in terms of demon strength.
- He knows full well that the entire alliance is a lie and both parties are only using each other, though in works in his favor, as it will send the demons to destroy each other without the lose of any human lives.
- This absolute powerful panel that the anime decided “nah, we’re gonna change this too” because they’re cowards.
- Narrowed down possible locations on where to find Sonju and Mujika. Sure it was with the intention of killing our demon friends but his map was accurate.
- Survived who knows long with his seizures at level 4, and because of his severe condition, he’s completely set on following through his plan and succeeding before his time runs out.
- Seems to enjoy blowing stuff up, such as the imperial city’s bridges to send the place into a panic and trap all the citizens.
- Advised the Lambda crew on how to effectively fight against the queen by attacking relentlessly.
- Let loose a poison that causes not only normal demons to degenerate, but the royal family as well, such as the five regent heads and the queen who’s name is too long and complicated for me to ever remember, who all have the cursed blood. (at least that’s how effective it was in manga, in anime it did absolutely nothing to vylk)
- He somehow managed to learn, speak and understand the demon language, which, according to Shirai (vol16 author notes), is actually an uncommon language nowadays. (and we’ll unfortunately never know how this language actually sounds, thank anime..)
- Do I even praise him for killing a demon and well.. all this? Sure in the anime he tried killing Vylk, but old demon was fair more innocent compared to the royal family, so I have no idea.
- I will give season 2 some credit and say I prefer their take on the “right now you look like a small child, shaking with fear” panel.
- But not too much credit, as they didn’t give us the full trio hug as the manga did!
- Then again the anime did have him about to apologize to Vylk and Demon Emma for his actions, which is something, I suppose? since in ch154 he says he didn’t regret killing the queen and royals, which I guess is justified because they were the bigger problem, but oh well.
- Might have apologized to Ayshe for killing her father? Can’t be sure but that’s the unanimous consensus in the fandom right?
- Instantly comes up with counter moves and directions for the entire group upon hearing the enemies locations from Vincent during the GF raid.
- I honestly can’t look at this panel anymore and not laugh about it.. because reasons.
- He just keeps on winning. (also he looks real good here, i’ll give him that.)
- He and everyone else are skeptical about there being no “reward,” and for rightfully so.
- Upon learning that Emma is missing after everyone crossed over to the human world, they all adopt her optimistic attitude and swear to find her no matter where she might be.
- After a stressful two year search, the kids finally find Emma and Norman is so overcome with emotion that he busts out into tears of joy, despite finding out that she lost her memories due to the reward. All that matters to him is that Emma was safe and happy and he accepts her just the way she is.
And I guess.. that’s it. I’m sorry again, I know this is truly the weakest post out of the trio and I have no doubt I glanced over a whole bunch of great moments but it still had to be done! Making fun of him probably wasn’t the best thing to do on his special day either, but I assure you this child is very powerful. Who else do you know that is capable of sending an entire fandom into a panic and rage furiously by just simply showing up?
Ah ha okay, now I’m done. In all seriousness though, this lad is great and through everything he has endured, he definitely deserves to be celebrated today, so happy birthday to our boy Norman!

fun world-building facts about the eyeliner incident:
so the main canon divergence is that roku killed sozin, instead of just chilling in his cottage for ~50 years. he ended up leading a coalition force against him, in prep for civil war, although was able to bait him out to an erupting volcano and kill him at the age of 40 or 50 or so. roku then lived for another 100 years (hardly out of character for an avatar to do so).
roku went further, though, and after killing sozin, declared there would be no more fire lords in the avatar state. this split the fire nation into monarchists and anti-monarchists, essentially, and there was still a fair bit of civil unrest/war after sozin’s death because not everyone agreed.
a lot of monarchists ran off to the colonies after sozin was killed, to protect their assets, to protect their lives, as a place to hide out until the storm blew over (it did not blow over) and to regroup for a next assault (which did not succeed).
this was fine, until a second phase: roku wanted to give the radicals in his coalition a leading voice in the next government to be. a lot of people disagreed. in the colonies (many of which had officially been handed back to the earth kingdom), there were riots, lots of dissent, etc. amongst fire nationals.
when the north western earth kingdom became the site of resistance against radicals in the fire nation (as roku’s opposition to sozin was based on a coalition of liberal nobles and bureaucrats & emerging radical workers syndicates), a lot of monarchists & ultranationalists ended up emigrating with the initial wave of noble émigrés, and eventually, some of the more liberal nobles supporting roku turned against them as well. (this is also how roku’s youngest daughter, rina, who was married off to a sozin loyalist in a hostage situation organised by sozin, ends up in the earth kingdom - she and her husband defect, and initially support roku, but seeing the radicals that he is genuinely helping and supporting, they move to the earth kingdom). the reputation of this second wave depends on province - ex-soldiers are always hated, and the north west & regions in close proximity despise the fire nation, but the east & ba sing se has always been quite hospitable, & many have dual bases in ba sing se and the northwest. the ba sing se nobility, over time, mingle more and more with high profile fire nation émigrés who have property.
fire nationals in the earth kingdom are thus culturally different, usually, to fire nation citizens in the modern fire nation. more likely to be monarchists, more likely to hold sympathetic sentiment to azulon etc. (though most agree - publically - that sozin went too far, even if they think azulon should have his crown in private), and a lot of their styles of fashion, music, art, dance etc. is based on a lot of “antiquated” “old fashioned” fire nation traditions with some earth kingdom ideas mixed in. to fire nation residents, they just look at least 80 years out of date.
fire nation descendants in the earth kingdom are more likely to be involved with particular organised crime syndicates (the triads, as opposed to ones with other names). this is because after the war ended abruptly with sozin’s death, a lot ex-mercenaries and ex-soldiers stationed in the colonies/northwest began to find work/business through protection racketeering (in absence of organised govt. in the north-western earth kingdom). even in the modern day, the north west has problems with corruption, control, and is economically quite deprived despite having massive resources and that’s an after-effect of colonialism and attempts by the national government to ‘penalise’ the officials in that region for colluding with fire nation nationals/ex-colonists (very exasperating for genuine earth kingdom officials, and earth kingdom locals). roku did try and help the region but he’s generally disliked for lots of reasons & was trying to stop the fire nation from collapsing after supporting the radicals (a controversial decision!) and facing counter-revolutionary violence. i think roku felt like he neglected the fire nation for the earth kingdom in his youth and that’s why sozin was able to get as far as he did, so i think he made the very difficult decision to prioritise trying to sort out the fire nation. hence why yu dao is in a bit of a state. i imagine yu dao (republic city) is a big buzzing city but has those same problems with organised crime we see in lok.
the sozin dynasty, as azulon & his descendants are called, aren’t an exception to this involvement in organised crime. a lot of people were actually quite sympathetic to a young azulon after his father was killed at around the age of fifty or so, including fire nationals in the earth kingdom, but also the nobility in the earth kingdom, themselves staunch monarchists, who saw sozin as the problem and not the system of monarchy itself. all of this allowed azulon & his family to flee the caldera & manage to transfer a number of their assets with relative ease; they were never penniless, despite the sob story you might here.
azulon set up links with local businesses who were run by sympathisers, as well as organised crime syndicates, and through wise purchases, good advisors, & some savvy of his own, shifted from aristocracy to bourgeoisie with relative ease, & bought/negotiated their place at the negotiating table, to eventually come to be considered the lead stakeholder in those crime syndicates (with enough distance, though, as not to be suspicious). very much saved his name from being a laughing stock through his own ability there, but if you’d hear the story told, people who say that folks were deferential to him in part because of his lineage (sometimes, but not always true - the revolution had caused people to doubt).
regarding his sons, iroh had far more involved in organised crime and illegitimate business than ozai, who essentially looked after the more boring legitimate side of things (but took that role seriously and expanded it beyond being a simple front). iroh actually had a worse reputation up until azulon died, and was just considered a very competent but cut-throat political/business leader/general player with a lot of very very shady links that couldn’t quite be proven, but also like, was famously quite charming and well-liked in the high society ba sing se network. like, i want to be honest to show iroh here - he was bad! in the show, he was a war criminal! i mentioned he was a war profiteer (largely because ‘war criminal’ doesn’t make as much sense imo), and that was almost definitely regarding civil wars/coups that have been attempted in the fire nation & earth kingdom. this stopped when lu ten ended up being shot in the crossfire during a turf war and rather than pursuing a violent vendetta, iroh stepped out of the spotlight and let ozai take over the reigns more.
anyway, after zuko was burned for attempting to stand up to ozai, iroh basically faked his own death and completely ditched anything left of what he’d spent his life building in order to whisk zuko away and invent new identities for themselves in the fire nation (ironically) where they worked as tea shop workers (yes. li and mushi, still canon). i don’t think they live in the caldera, since cameras/photos mean it’s easier to be tracked, and zuko probably lives somewhere quiet-ish like ember island. zuko has a decent adolescence, considering, after he’s estranged. no “find the avatar” in this universe, for fairly obvious reasons.
i’m not an expert in organised crime by any means but hopefully this all makes sense. a lot of what azulon/iroh/ozai is doing, through the purchase of land, the control of business, the use of organised crime as an illicit form of govt. essentially is a form of colonisation, where the region is deprived due to fire nation business interests and in earth kingdom control in name only. corruption and close ties between ba sing se and fire nation émigrés mean that centralised govt is underfunding & turning a blind eye to it (which, in canon, ba sing se does, ‘no war in ba sing se’ etc.). most of the colonisation efforts are centred in the north-west, but azula is brought up in ba sing se given it’s far more reputable/prestigious, though she’s undoubtedly been to both places.
as for what’s happening in the fire nation, i feel like aesthetically it’s a little different - ba sing se is ancient buildings with sky trains, lots of urban sprawl & a very wide and endless city, whereas i imagine the caldera is a very tall city due to limited space available, more skyscrapers in the fire nation due to limits in islands. also, the fire nation has sea trains and submarine trains/tunnels, because. politically? haven’t quite decided but they’re some flavour of anarchist-communist (was reluctant to use that word in the fic itself because people have all kinds of interpretations of it, often very negative knee-jerk responses to it, but essentially: community-owned services and businesses and spaces instead of privately-owned ones, with egalitarian principles enshrined into the culture & identity now) over there if i’m honest, with lots of democratic councils. obviously i don’t think it’ll be perfect and i imagine ‘the national question’ is something that comes up a lot, with some difficulties between national & regional identity (imo the fire nation is very diverse, we see the sun warriors and then the sages who help korra in s2 are from different groups/cultures than the militaristic one that rose to prominence in the 100 year war and i hc a lot of that regional diversity was steamrolled for sozin’s imperialist project).
ANYWAY
there’s a reason i made this post on my main last week:
this is getting very long but hopefully this is some insight into what i’ve been thinking about when i made this AU
#very long and lots of politics#disclaimer: i am a leftist and that informs how i look at these issues#(if that wasn't obvious already)

Chapter 3, still a-comin’
Cirumstances, am I right, folks?
If you didn’t make it through Chapter 2 or this is all 100% new, welp, this is a continuation of this comic by @lostmypotatoes, after which Frisk has gotten him to be her witchly apprentice, but now he’s trying to flake on her. ACTION
Sans was getting soft in his old age, or maybe from proximity to someone as aggressively good-hearted as the High Priestess, because he found he didn't want to demolish the entire wall. For one thing, without his magic, it'd be too much effort. More importantly, though, Frisk's rooms were many, many stories above the ground, and falling masonry could kill or injure someone below who hadn't earned it. Most important of all: Frisk would probably end up trying to help dig them out and put herself in danger.
He also figured that he had time to do things neatly and cost her less in repairs. Everything had been loosened by that first colossal blow, but he had to give it a few more whacks before he could start pulling it apart, making a pile of glass shards, wood paneling, bricks and stones in front of her office. Luckily, whoever had constructed the outside wall hadn't done a great job, or else it would've taken him all night. A carefully judged body-slam was enough to weaken the remaining support structures; a few kicks and a yank created a space big enough for the giant skeleton to squeeze through, and then he could see the barrier itself.
Panting, Sans took a moment to survey his handiwork. It sucked to exert himself like that, but he figured that sometimes in life, you just had to punch things until they broke.
Unfortunately, he didn't have that option with the barrier. The old stories came back to him as he stared at the golden latticework hovering outside the ruined wall. How was he going to get through without touching it directly or throwing something big enough to hurt someone below?
His eyes fell on the worktable and the vials of stuff he'd made this afternoon. Four hadn't been infused yet. Sans grabbed one, pulled off the cork and, with a speck of magic, willed the liquid to boil, burn, dissolve anything it touched. It promptly began to fizzle and hiss in his hand, and he had to fling it away like an idiot before it started eating through his metacarpals.
He did one thing right in throwing it at the barrier, which instantly melted and let the chilly night air wash over him. Outside, moonlight shadowed the bricks of a nearby wall that stretched almost all the way to the ground, ending in the roof of a building only a couple stories high. He could hop out, grab onto the brick edifice, climb down safely and be gone before Frisk even got back up here, never mind moving the statue and getting the doors open. From there, it'd only be a matter of time before his magic regenerated and he could take a shortcut home.
Poor Frisk. She'd tried. Hell, she'd survived his murder attempts and taught him a few things, and he'd never forget her.
Anyway, she was better off losing track of him and finding a smaller, tamer monster to work with. What was she even getting from him being here, besides a hell of a lot of trouble?
The question was supposed to be rhetorical, but as if in reply, he thought of Frisk standing at the worktable with her arm up those ridiculously oversized trousers, grinning and saying, "The pleasure of your company," looking up at him like...well, like he was her friend, not an inferior or a dangerous monster or a giant pain in the ass, pun absolutely intended. Of course, it wasn't as if she had many other friends, but he couldn't tell himself that she was just using a captive freak to keep her company; he already knew her too well for that.
This, right here. This was why he needed to leave now. The skeleton took a few steps back, gauging the distance to—
Whhhsh went something in his mental ear. He jerked around to see Frisk standing half in his shadow, half in the moonlight, with her veil in her hand and absolute murder in her eye. "Sans." It was a whisper, lost in the wind.
Shit fuck shit shit shiiiiiiit fuckity fuck SHIT rang in his head as the satchel hit the floor. "Frisk?" he whispered.
Frisk beckoned him closer with one finger. Unbelieving, he knelt, and she punched him so hard that he almost felt it. "Here is what's going happen," she said as he touched his jaw. "I assume you've blocked the doors, so you will go and unblock them, and I'll tell the guard that you were—we'll say you were fighting off an assassin, and everyone will be impressed when they see how much damage you did trying to kill him before he escaped. Won't they?"
Sans nodded helplessly. "How...how'd you...?"
"How did I get here?" She tossed the veil aside, letting it drift to the floor. "Let me tell you a story, Sans. Once upon a time – yesterday morning – I had a long talk with Dr. Serif. He said you probably didn't intend to stay for a whole month, and I needed to be on my guard, just in case you decided to pull a stunt like this. I didn't want to believe him, but I followed his advice, and lo and behold, less than a week later, I caught my lying, backstabbing apprentice trying to break his word because he was apparently too bored with me to waste time learning crucial information for the survival of his entire race! The end!"
Frisk had to pause for breath. The boss monster took great exception to that last accusation, and he doubted that was actually the end of the story, but he was afraid to interrupt. "Do you see this?" she continued. Sans flinched as the tiny woman ripped off her brooch and brandished it at him. "Dr. Serif brought it yesterday afternoon. It seems he'd taken some of your magic while you were unconscious, and not only did he refuse to return it to you, he said I couldn't be here every hour of the day, and I needed to have this if you ever tried to break loose. He infused it with enough of your power to teleport myself one time." Another deep breath. "Do you have any idea how angry I am that he was right, and I was right to listen? And do you know how sick to my stomach I feel right now?!" Frisk threw the brooch to the floor, where it shattered. The last bit of magic quietly evaporated, and she pressed the back of her hand to her lips, eyes unfocusing. "And...how do you stand—"
There it was. He couldn't believe it had taken this long to catch up with her—the first time he'd tried using a shortcut, it left him feeling like his head had been screwed on backwards.
The skeleton glanced at the open, crumbling wall, then at Frisk, who was leaning heavily on the worktable, eyes closed. Then...
The priestess squeaked as Sans swept her up into the crook of his arm and headed to the bathroom. "Put me down!" she croaked, thumping his clavicle.
"Yes, m'lady," he said, opening the door, poking the light on and placing her at the very back of the room. "Go for it."
Once she was settled and could puke in relative peace, Sans went to the double doors leading into the hall, replaced the statue in its niche, and headed back to the workroom. Her office door was blocked by the many chunks of wall piled in front of it, and moving them again would take effort, so the skeleton ignored it for now. He picked up the satchel and set it on the worktable, wondering if the wind was too cold for her and how, exactly, he was going to pay for this, in every sense of the word. After one more look outside, Sans made himself tiptoe back to the bathroom and ask, "You done?"
There was a pause, the sound of water running, and a much longer pause before she opened the door and stared up at him. "What are you still doing here?" she demanded.
Sans blinked at her, mostly for effect. "'Zat a trick question? I'm makin' sure you're okay. That magic can knock you on your ass the first couple times ya try it."
Her face tightened, a hard, bitter expression that probably shouldn't have surprised him. "You don't say." She turned her head to cough, resting her forehead on the tile wall. "Congratulations to you, Sans. I'm here, but I'm in no condition to do anything. Your plan worked after all." She pushed herself upright. "Good night."
Shit. "Uh...Frisk—"
The priestess walked right by to open the double doors. He heard her exclaim something about the guard not being there, and mutter that she'd deal with it in the morning. She barred the doors shut, which he hadn't even noticed was an option, and wobbled past him into her dressing room, evading his halfhearted attempt to steady her.
Hangers rattled. There was an occasional sniffle. When Frisk came out in a long crushed-velvet robe, she actually looked offended to see him. "Don't you have somewhere to be? I said good night, Sans."
Wasn't she going to at least try to stop him? Sure, she was sick and exhausted, but where was her determination? ...Was she so upset that she was determined to cut her losses and let him go?
That really seemed to be it. Well, Sans should have been elated, but he mostly just felt insulted. Besides, he couldn't leave until they got a few things straight, or else he'd spend the rest of his life trying not to think about it. The boss monster wracked his brain for a witty yet conciliatory opener, but what came out was "You're not boring."
A blast of wind howled through the room, flipping the lighter books open and ruffling the weighed-down stacks of paper. Frisk remained stock-still as her short, wavy hair fluttered across her face. "I beg your pardon," she said, colder than the autumn air.
"Okay, yeah, I admit it. I was gonna ditch ya," he said desperately. "But it wasn't 'cause I don't like you or I don' care about helping the other monsters. I—you remember all you heard about Papyrus, right?" Her expression softened a little as she nodded. "I had a dream about him last night that I'm pretty sure was real. Me bein' gone and him not knowin' I'm okay is killing him, Frisk. I can't..."
She stayed silent as Sans pressed the heel of his hand to his forehead. It had been so long since he'd told someone the entire truth that he felt completely exposed. It was scary as hell, but he owed it to her and to Pap. "Ya gotta understand," he mumbled. "My brother's all I got left, and I'm all he's got. You've been nothin' but fair to me, and it's not yer fault there's no real way t'contact 'im. I just...I can't go a whole month without lettin' him know I'll be home soon, and I can't dream at him with yer barrier up." He sat down with his legs crossed, staring at the floor. "I spend too much damn time away as it is. He never knows for sure if I'm comin' back."
Frisk swallowed. "Why didn't you tell me sooner how important this was to you? And what do you mean, 'dream at him'?"
"I didn't bother 'cause you might'a thought I was lying to make you feel sorry fer me. I know I wouldn't trust me." The skeleton jerked his head at the ruined wall. "What I mean is, I can talk to Pap while we're both dreamin', but you wouldn't be there to hear what we were saying. I could tell him all sorts of crap, like how strong the High Priestess is and how much safer it'd be for us monsters if she was dead."
The priestess was silent again. Sans risked a glance in time to see her reach up to sweep her hair behind her ear, only to yelp in pain. Sure enough, as she raised her hand to inspect it, the outside knuckle was red and swollen. "Augh! How did I not notice this?" Frisk tried to move it and had to stifle another exclamation. "Wonderful. If it hurts this much, I must have broken it." She made an incoherent noise and started toward the rack of finished potions on the worktable.
Sans dimly recalled that humans didn't feel as much pain when they were scared or excited, and that it could catch up to them pretty fast. It also occurred to him that it was a bad idea for a small human to hit a thick-headed skeleton with her bare hand. "What are you doin'?" he wanted to know. "You can heal that up in a jiffy."
"I can't heal myself," she said brusquely. "I'm not very adept at healing to begin with, and I can't make it work on me at all."
That couldn't be right. "Ya mean to tell me you're good enough to hold me off and keep me penned in for days with no magic, but—"
"Leave me alone."
Her voice was so quiet and furious that he stopped dead. But as she picked a vial and started to pull the cork out with her teeth, Sans got up and held his own hand out. "Lemme see."
With as much dignity as she could muster, Frisk closed her mouth and handed him the vial. He put it back impatiently and beckoned again. "Not that, dummy. Yer hand."
The priestess gave him a long, eloquent look. When he didn't move, she placed her broken hand in his huge one, wincing as his thumb closed lightly over her wrist. It was hard to remember how to turn his magic green, but she'd been right about intentions: it helped to think about how badly he wanted it to work, not only to help her, but to prove that he was capable of fixing things as well as destroying them.
Sure enough, within seconds, his palm began to glow as if he held a handful of emeralds. When Sans could bring himself to let her go, she flexed it easily. "You've gotten some magic back already," she observed. Frisk smiled at him for a moment, and he couldn't not smile back. "You know," she said, anger rapidly resurfacing, "you're not only a lying reprobate, you are a huge idiot." She rapped her knuckles on his palm. "I've always had a barrier guarding the bedroom from any external magic. If that was the only thing keeping you from reaching Papyrus, you should have asked me to remove it."
Sans sat down again. "But—"
"As for the possibility of giving him illicit information, I will ask you this only once." Frisk moved closer, looking him square in the sockets. "Do you intend to tell the other monsters, at any point, that your race would be better off with me dead?"
He didn't even have to think about it before he answered, "Not anymore. You're pretty damn useful as you are, speakin' up on our behalf to the other humans. I don't see anyone pressuring you into screwin' us over."
A brief smile. "I'm glad to hear it. For my part, I don't mind letting you talk to your brother as long as you take me with you. I'd love to say hello—I've heard so much about him that it'll be like meeting an old friend." She stifled a yawn. "If you start tattling on me in some fashion, I can always pull the barrier back up."
"...You want me to...bring you...in my dream?" Blink. Blink. "But how—what're you gonna—"
"One thing at a time, Sans. First, we're going to bed."
"We're what now?"
"If you're not leaving yet, then we're going to bed, now. This mess can wait till morning." With a nod at her blocked office door, Frisk motioned for him to follow her into the bedroom. "Come along. There's nowhere else for me to sleep, and I'm freezing."
And so it was that Sans found himself lying rigid on the huge feather mattress, the priestess curled up like a cat in the armchair. He had no idea why he was so nervous; he couldn't even muster a semi-joke about her joining him in bed. "I've heard of this spell before," said Frisk, who seemed unperturbed by their proximity. "It's not very complicated. You've just healed me, and I've recently used some of your magic, so we have enough of a connection that I should be able to find you once we're asleep. ...The key word being sleep, Sans. You have to relax. I'm not going to eat you, no matter how short-sighted and dishonorable you've been."
"You're not gonna let that go, are ya?" he mumbled.
"You have no idea. We haven't even talked about repairing the wall yet." Her voice warmed again. "For now, though, don't worry about it. We need to find Papyrus and set you both at ease."
Now Sans felt nervous and extremely weird again. He turned onto his side so she couldn't see him changing color. "'Kay. I...yeah. Thanks."
"Of course," she said, as though it was the most natural thing in the world to do a favor for someone who had completely betrayed her trust, and turned off the witchlight. He felt her raise another barrier at the bedroom door, one solid enough to stop an army, and a thinner barrier disappeared from behind the headboard. "There," she said in the darkness. "We'll see how well this works. Go to sleep, Sans."
That seemed unlikely, but he'd forgotten who he was dealing with. When about ten minutes had passed and the orange light of his eyes was still going strong, something wonderful started creeping up on him, a soothing vibration that spread through every bone in his body before he even knew what he was hearing. It was Frisk humming, of course, and of course it worked; Sans was more than content to let the sound and her presence lull him to sleep.
~
He jerked upright as something hit his skull, reflexively swatting the air and yelling, "Piss off!"
The lights were back on. In fact, it was full daylight, or what passed for it. Sans rubbed his eye sockets, turning this way and that. He was still in bed, but the bed stood alone in the middle of an open, snowy field. Kid monsters were racing back and forth under gaily decorated trees, throwing snowballs at each other and catching him in the crossfire.
The skeleton brushed himself off, reasoning that the Underground could be a weird place, but it wasn't quite random-snow-bed weird. This must be a dream, then. Damn it...
Oh, well. At least it was a nice one, and it felt pretty real—his good dreams tended to be fuzzy, while every single one of his nightmares was incredibly vivid.
Footsteps crunched on the snow behind him. "Well, hello there. That was simple," said Frisk, looking around them as he got up. She was in her plush robe and bare feet, but seemed at ease. "So this is Snowdin. Which house is yours?"
"BROTHER?"
Sans froze as a familiar shape emerged from a nearby fog of ice crystals. "Papyrus?" he whispered.
"I KNEW IIIIIT—OOF!" Papyrus had run to give his brother a bear hug and fell straight through him, as if Sans was also made of fog. "WHAT IS THIS, SANS? HAVE YOU BECOME TOO LAZY TO STAY SOLID?" he accused him from the ground.
"It's a dream, bro. This happens every damn time," the boss monster said wearily. "Just keep it together and listen, okay? I'm here t'let you know—"
"WAIT. A HUMAN? IS THAT...KRIS?" Papyrus was staring up at Frisk, his face somehow creased in puzzlement. "IS IT REALLY YOU? I THOUGHT YOU'D BE...KRIS-ER, NYEH."
Sans snorted. "Not every human is Kris, Pap. Don't be racist."
"Hello," Frisk said, offering a bright smile and a hand up. "My name is Frisk. It's wonderful to meet you, Papyrus."
"YES, IT IS. NYEH-HEH-HEH! YOU ARE CLEARLY VERY WISE AND ATTRACTIVE, HUMAN!" Papyrus brushed the snow from his fake armor, throwing his red scarf back over his shoulder in so dramatic a fashion that he didn't notice Frisk grinning, though Sans sure did. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY GREAT AND ATTRACTIVE DREAM?" he added.
Still smiling, Frisk watched the pack of young monsters run by. The monsters didn't seem to notice them, though the bed was still there and her purple robe stood out like a dark beacon against the snow. "Your brother wanted to see you, and I decided to come along," she explained. "Sans was captured by humans about a week ago when he was out looking for food, but please don't worry about—"
"CAPTURED?!" Papyrus clapped both hands to his skull. "THIS IS TERRIBLE! PLEASE DE-CAPTURE HIM IMMEDIATELY, HUMAN, OR ELSE I...I...!"
"Pap! Take it easy. She's okay. 'Fact, she's the reason I ain't dead or enslaved right now." Sans plucked at his shirt. "See, she even got me some new duds. You can finally stop bitching about what I'm wearin'."
Papyrus stopped flailing long enough to examine Sans' shirt. "NYEH! I SEE NO HOLES OR QUESTIONABLE STAINS. WHAT SORCERY IS THIS?"
Sans smirked, letting his brother poke at him in vain. "I told ya, bro, I just got it. You don't hafta rip me apart like this."
Frisk rocked back and forth on her heels. "So," she said over Papyrus' exasperated groaning, "I gather you knew a boy named Kris from the last human delegation. Is that right?"
"YES, IT IS RIGHT! KRIS WAS OUR DEAR FRIEND," Papyrus said as Sans grimaced and turned away. "WE WENT FOR WALKS AND HAD SLEEPOVERS, AND MADE HAND PUPPETS THAT ALSO HAD SLEEPOVERS. IT WAS LIKE HAVING A CUTE LITTLE PET THAT CLEANED UP AFTER ITSELF. WE'VE ALL MISSED HIM VERY MUCH, NYEHHH."
"Yeah, he left with the other humans," Sans muttered. "Can we please move on now?"
"Yes, of course. I'm going to borrow your brother for a few more weeks," Frisk told Papyrus. The latter was glaring at his brother's new shirt again, as if daring it to make a false move. "I have a plan to start making peace between monsters and humans," she continued, "but I need a monster's help to do it. Can you get along without Sans until I send him back to the Underground?"
"HMMMM." Papyrus straightened, one hand on his chin. "YOU WON'T HURT HIM?" he asked, sounding almost timid.
"Absolutely not, Papyrus," she said firmly. "He'll be back safe and sound."
Papyrus nodded, evidently impressed by her sincerity. "I AM IMPRESSED BY YOUR SINCERITY, HUMAN. IF THIS DREAM IS NOT MY MAGNIFICENT IMAGINATION PLAYING TRICKS ON ME AGAIN, THEN I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, SHALL SPARE MY GOOD-FOR-NOTHING BROTHER FOR A LITTLE WHILE LONGER. NYEH-HEH-HEH!" Without warning, the skeleton grabbed at Sans' wrist bones. "HUMAN! I WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO MY BROTHER IN SECRET FOR A MOMENT, IF YOU WILL PLEASE EXCUSE US. IT WILL BE SECRET!"
"Of course," said Frisk. "I'll be right here. Just make sure it's not too secret, please."
Sans covered his face with his hand as Papyrus marched toward the fog bank, still holding his brother's imaginary wrist. "Ya can't touch me, remember?" Sans called after him.
"...I KNEW THAT. CONGRATULATIONS, BROTHER! YOU HAVE PASSED THIS TEST! NYEH. ...HEH." Papyrus waited for Sans to join him, and they walked towards the river. "ARE YOU SURE THAT'S NOT KRIS?" the younger skeleton asked doubtfully.
Sans laughed, jerking his thumb in Frisk's direction. "Does that human look like a sixteen-ish-year-old boy?"
"HMM. NO, IT LOOKS LIKE A HUMAN. BUT! IT SEEMS DELIGHTFUL! THE GREAT PAPYRUS THINKS YOU SHOULD BRING IT BACK HERE WITH YOU. IT'S BEEN TOO LONG SINCE WE HAD A HUMAN TO PILLOW-FIGHT WITH, NYEH-HEH-HEH."
"That's probably not a great idea," Sans remarked.
"NYEH-HEH! WHY NOT?"
"I could spend literally the rest of the night tellin' you all the reasons why not, but the biggest one is that she's the High Priestess, Pap. The other humans would definitely notice if she was gone."
"HIGH PRIESTESS?" Papyrus cocked his head in perplexity. "WHY WOULD A DELIGHTFUL HUMAN BE A HIGH PRIESTESS? DON'T THEY CREATE BARRIERS?"
"It's complicated, bro. Look, I've gotta go soon. Is there anything else you wanna say?"
His younger brother paused, and sighed, shoulders slumping. "SANS. WERE YOU REALLY JUST LOOKING FOR FOOD? WHEN YOU GOT CAUGHT, I MEAN."
The bigger skeleton tried to kick a chunk of ice into the water, his foot passing right through it. "I wasn't slaughtering humans, if that's what you're askin'. I was mostly tryin' to track down monsters who've been sold off recently. But I did want to see how the humans' harvest turned out, an' it looks like it was pretty good this year."
Papyrus nodded, still troubled. "ALL RIGHT, BROTHER. I UNDERSTAND. PLEASE, JUST...TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. NYEH."
"You too, Pap." Sans felt a familiar stab of trepidation and backed away. "Shit, I've got a nightmare coming. I'll see ya soon, okay? Don't tell anyone about Frisk!"
He had to turn and run before Papyrus could answer. Frisk was sitting on the bed in the snow field, ducking snowballs. She turned and started to say, "I hope you weren't telling on m—"
"No more dream! End it now!" he panted.
The priestess didn't waste time asking stupid questions. As the nightmare nipped at Sans' heel, Frisk made a quick swiping gesture, and just like that, he was back in bed, in the bedroom, staring at the sun-washed ceiling.
The skeleton sighed in relief. He rested his forearm across his eyes. Between the radius and ulna, he could see the flickering shadows of birds flying past the open windows. "Thanks, kiddo," he said, "an' thanks for lettin' me talk to him. I really appreciate it." Sans scratched the top of his skull, rolling over to face Frisk. "So, how'd you like Papyrus? He's a cool guy, huh?"
Frisk didn't answer, because she wasn't there. A strange human child sat in the armchair, perched on the edge of the seat, holding a kitchen knife. It stared at him with red-shining eyes, teeth bared in a horrible grin.
If Sans had had more than a shred of magic left, he would have pulled all his blasters at once and obliterated half the building. As it was, he jerked back, nearly choking in terror. The child wasn't moving, but menace radiated off it like heat from a furnace, eyes boring into him as its grin widened. Sans looked around wildly for an escape. The windows were too small, but maybe he could—
A sharp whistle split the air. The barrier snapped on, and the child vanished.
Sans was sitting upright in bed again, in the dark, awake, panting as though he'd run a mile in a few seconds. "Sans, I am so sorry!" The light snapped on. Frisk stood at his bedside, wide-eyed, clutching the neck of her robe. "I didn't think I was going to have that nightmare again before we woke up! I thought it'd be fine, I—" She took a step onto the bed, leaning over to grab his humerus. "Sans? Sans! Please say something!"
He shook her off, and she stumbled backwards, falling into the armchair. "What the fuck was that?" he rasped.
Frisk sat up and pulled her robe tighter around her shoulders. "I'm sorry," she said again. "I should have warned you. It's the reason I have that barrier up in the first place." She swallowed hard. "It shouldn't happen again."
"It better not," Sans snarled. "What the hell was that thing, anyway?"
"I don't know." She looked so miserable that Sans wanted to smack himself, but he was too unnerved to lie and tell her that it was okay; he was shaking so hard that he could almost hear his bones rattle.
For a solid minute, the only other sound in the room was the wind blowing outside the shuttered windows. "I hope you had a good talk with Papyrus," Frisk said presently with a decent attempt at calmness, placing her palm on the bedroom door to dissolve the thick barrier. "I can see why everyone likes him so much. It's good to know he hasn't changed."
The skeleton grunted, hoping she was smart enough not to ask him any questions about him changing. "Yeah. Thanks for fixin' that up for us. Sorry I pushed you just now."
"It's fine. It was an accident." Frisk fiddled with the key in its lock. "You know, Sans, I'd like you to help repair the damage you caused, but...if you still want to leave, I won't stop you. I wasn't thinking of how much it was to ask, staying an entire month."
Sans stared at her. She wouldn't turn around. Finally, he said, "What the crap, lady? You already let me talk to Pap. That was the whole reason I tried to bust out of here. Why wouldn't I stick around 'n make it up to you? Ya really think I'm that bad?"
There came a soft knock at the door, startling them both. "Your Eminence?" It was a male voice, deep and pleasant. "Are you awake, my lady? Please forgive my intrusion, but His Holiness urgently requests your presence."
Daylight was showing through the closed shutters. "Yes, of course. I'll be there in a moment," said Frisk, running her fingers through her hair, eye twitching as she found a tangle.
Sans watched her, and watched her move to unlock the door, feeling a different sort of unease. "Wait a sec," he rumbled. "Frisk, wait. Didn't you bar the big doors last night? How'd he get—"
The man knocked again. "Just a moment," Frisk repeated, turning the key. She glanced behind her. "What, Sans?"
The door banged open. Before she could blink, a stranger in tattered clothes rushed in, his arm raised to strike.
The boss monster was already moving. The man lunged, and there was a sound of steel hitting bone; the priestess found herself staring at the tip of a knife, inches from her face, jutting from between massive skeletal fingers. "Sans!" cried Frisk, twisting around to look at him.
Red clouded Sans' vision, but one clear spot remained: with his free hand, he reached out, corralled Frisk and gently maneuvered her behind him, fingers forming a protective cage. The other hand flexed briefly, then backhanded the intruder so hard that the man rolled clear out of the bedroom, hitting the worktable with a crack and a thump.
The skeleton clamped his teeth on the dagger's hilt and pried the blade out from between his knuckles, jerking his head to fling it to the other side of the bedroom. There was technically nothing to pierce where the knife had been lodged, but it still stung. He glanced down to be sure Frisk was unscathed, then edged forward into the workroom.
To his great irritation, the man wasn't dead; he was not only conscious, but pulling himself up on the table. "Who the fuck are you?" demanded Sans. Only the vague awareness that Frisk was watching kept him from grabbing the guy and pinching his head off.
The stranger wiped the corner of his mouth on his sleeve, squinting against Sans' literal glare. He was gaunt and generally gross-looking, but had moved fast enough and aimed the knife with enough skill to peg him as a professional killer. "What's a big-ass talkin' skeleton doing here? They said you got sold off already!" The assassin laughed shakily. "So it was you bashin' that wall down! What the hell'd you even do that for? It took me all goddamn night to get out!"
Sans glanced at the office door, which was ajar. Several pieces of broken masonry had been moved out of the way by shoving the door repeatedly from the inside. The guy must have snuck into the office after Frisk left, while Sans was in the bedroom but before he blocked the entrance, and gotten trapped in his hiding place by all the debris piled against it.
It would have been kind of funny, except that if Sans really had left, Frisk would be dead now.
The young woman was leaning on Sans' femur, peering around his outspread fingers. He could feel her trembling, which only intensified his urge to kill something. "I know you," she said. "You spoke to me after a service last week. You said I...I..."
"Had a positively angelic voice?" The man leered at her, showing several broken teeth. "S'truth. But I needed to be sure 'xactly who you were. The last High Priestess used body doubles sometimes." He looked her up and down. "Gotta say, I like yours a lot better."
She shuddered. Sans leaned down, not taking his now-flaming eyes from the assassin. "You need this piece of crap alive, Frisk, or can I take 'im apart now?"
"Frisk?" The man cackled, slapping the worktable with a dirty palm. "That's your real name, lady? That's gotta be the dumbest—"
And just like that, he launched himself at Frisk, closing the distance and ducking between Sans' legs like a snake. He whipped another knife out from his belt and would have sliced her neck open if Sans hadn't been ready to nudge her out of the way, grabbing the assassin on the backswing and slamming him against the open door.
Before Frisk could react, Sans turned his head to the opposite wall and said, "Holy crap, what's that?" As she whirled around, Sans plucked the knife out of the man's hand and gave him one squeeze, very quick and very hard. "Whoops, my bad. Nothin' there," he said to cover the sound of ribs breaking.
The priestess started to turn back. "Stay where you are," Sans ordered, pulling the assassin out of her line of sight, stepping into the workroom and closing the door behind him. "Oh, no you don't," he said loudly, as if chasing the man down. "Nooo, stop! We just want to talk to...oh, no!"
The assassin didn't seem to appreciate the theatrics, especially because Sans was carrying him straight to the broken wall. Ignoring the man's feeble protests, the skeleton drew his arm back and murmured, "Now think about what you've done, pal," before tossing him out into the open air.
His only concern was that the bastard would make a lot of noise on the way down, but it seemed he'd knocked the wind out of him, ha. By the time Frisk peeked out of the bedroom, the assassin was long gone.
Sans shook his head and turned from the opening. "Nope. Sorry, I couldn't catch him before he told us who sent him." He wished he had his jacket; his hands had nowhere to go. "You all right, Frisk?"
The priestess gulped and wiped her eyes on her sleeve. "No, I'm not." She slid down, back to the wall, and wrapped her arms around her knees.
She didn't seem be physically hurt, so for the moment, he said, "'Kay," and stared at the slightly open office door. "Son of a bitch. I'm gonna tear that guard a new one. D'you think he knew you were sleepin' in there, or was it just a convenient...place to...crap."
Frisk's shoulders had hunched and her face gone pale. Sans ground his teeth, cursing his stupidity. "Well, it's over. He won't bother you again," he reassured her, coming to kneel beside her. "At least that cover story 'bout the assassin ain't a lie now. Right?"
She didn't look reassured at all. With the threat of bodily harm removed, Sans was out of his element again, with no clue how to help her. Should he frame this as an inconvenient but probably solvable problem that she'd always known might come up? No, that would be dumb. She already had enough problems. She didn't need to worry about more shitheads getting in here to hurt her. As long as she was an important and politically vocal person, it wasn't like she could do much to...
Wait. That was it: Sans had the idea. "Actually, ya know what?" He waited for her to shake her head. "You were sayin' this weird stuff about me leaving once I'd seen Pap. Before we talk about that, I gotta ask, what's the going rate for a bodyguard around here? A good one, not just some moron following you around tryin' to look scary."
She bit her lip, a habit Sans had noticed and been distracted by several times already. "Um...it depends. A skilled full-time personal guard? Anywhere from fifty to a hundred dinar—"
"Oh, nice. I can probably—"
"—an hour. I only sleep a few hours a night, so..." Frisk gave him the ghost of a smile. "If you're offering your services, Sans, I'd be glad to accept. Would a salary of one thousand per diem be acceptable?"
Now he really was at a loss for words. "A thousand a friggin' day?" he repeated blankly.
Frisk nodded. Her shock seemed to be fading as she thought aloud: "You could pay for your clothes in one day, and I can negotiate the repairs down to about ten days' worth. After that, well, wheat is about five dinar a bushel." Despite herself, she sniffled again. "You could buy a lot of wheat, or beans, or...or wedding cakes, or literally anything else you want to take Underground with you."
He was patting himself on the back when, without warning, Frisk's smile faded. "I'm sorry I didn't listen to you before I unlocked the door." Sniff. "Thank you for staying with me." Sniff. "And thank you for saving my life."
Shit shit was as far as Sans got before he lost even that bit of coherence. His senses were already heightened by the unexpected danger, his SOUL still feeling a little queasy at how close she'd come to dying right in front of him; to cap it off with Frisk looking up at him like this with big eyes, messy hair, and her robe falling off her shoulder was more than he could handle. She never looked bad, but right now, damn.
Sans didn't realize he was reaching for her until his fingertip brushed her cheek, toying with a wavy lock of hair. "Don't mention it," he said gruffly. "'s the least I can do."
Frisk pulled away, face flushing, but only in momentary surprise. He devoutly hoped that she'd get up and go get dressed, or maybe pack her things, buy a fast horse and leave the kingdom forever, but that damnable woman didn't know any better than to smile and take his hand, or at least rest her hand in the space between two of his fingers. "Just so long as you keep in mind that you're still my apprentice," she said with mock sternness. "Do you promise?"
Fffffffff
Neither of them understood what happened next. Sans felt something welling up that made him want to grab her and...he didn't know what would happen next, but he wanted it so badly that he backed away in sudden alarm. All he knew was that this feeling – this energy – had to go somewhere, and if he directed it at her, he could accidentally mash her into paste. The only thing he could think of was to whip around, look for something else to latch onto, and focus his attention on the pile of stones, etc. by the office.
His magic was barely available, or so he would have said a minute ago. Fueled by the whatever-it-was, though, and with the barrier gone from one of the walls, Sans didn't even have to think about it: Frisk jumped back as the heap of debris by her office began to glow red, rising into the air and flying into the broken wall. To their mutual astonishment, the outside bricks and internal structures zipped back into place first, followed by more bricks, mortar, stone, wood, and finally the glass and lead of the windows. When the dust settled, the entire facade had been imperfectly but almost entirely restored, the floor sagging under the windows.
Sans stared at his hand, still breathing heavily. "Huh," he said by way of explanation.
"Indeed." Frisk absently ran her fingers through her hair again, working out a tangle as she examined the wall. "Did I know you could do that?"
"I didn't know I could do that." Now that the unfamiliar energy was gone, Sans found he wanted to sit down. He sat down next to her, comfortably but not dangerously close. "Welp, I need a break from life," he said, which got a laugh out of her. He snorted. "Break. I actually didn't mean that one."
Frisk gave a long, long sigh. "We'll knock down your fee to three or four days of repairs," she said gravely.
Sans couldn't help grinning. "I always knew there was mortar life than money."
She kept a straight face until he added, "Makin' it pretty again is gonna be a pane in the glass," whereupon she broke out in hysterical, snorting laughter, which cracked him up in turn and guaranteed a minutes-long feedback loop.
As nice as this all was, Sans was a little concerned when he got under control and she kept going, and going, and ended up nearly gasping for breath. "You okay, kid?" he asked. "Ya need some water?"
"Oh, Lord," she wheezed. Frisk wiped her eyes on her already-damp sleeve. "Sans, you're killing me."
Silence. Frisk thought about it, and promptly buried her head as far between her knees as she could get it. "I didn't do that on purpose," she said, muffled and sheepish.
Sans shifted his weight. He wasn't ready to admit to himself how badly the whole attack had scared him, much less to her. Just to check, he considered escaping again – maybe once she was letting him walk around with her outside and his magic was naturally restored – and now, less than twelve hours after doing his damndest at it, he couldn't believe how much he hated the idea. No problem, really; he could chalk it up to her letting him connect with Papyrus and needing to make it up to her. Also, holy shit, one thousand dinar every day for the next twenty-five days? That was as solid a set of reasons as he'd ever come up with.
"Well," he finally said. "Guess you'd better get yer scary witch dress on and go tell everyone about this whole mess." He snapped his fingers, making an odd click, as something occurred to him. That's right—I got both those knives off him. Maybe someone can take a look at 'em and figure out who he was, where they were from."
Frisk raised her head, staring into space. "No," she said, as if to herself. The boss monster looked askance, and she smiled in a small, nasty way he hadn't seen before. "We won't say anything." The smile grew. "I'll go about my day as if nothing happened, except I'll be accompanied everywhere by a ten-foot skeleton. Whoever set him after me will have no idea what happened, and it'll drive them absolutely mad. We can see if anyone incriminates themselves, but...ohh, I'm going to enjoy this."
"It's a neat idea, but the garbage threw itself out already, remember?" Sans indicated the repaired wall. "Someone's bound to notice 'im."
The young woman did a remarkable impression of shock and distress, eyes wide and mouth hanging open before she murmured, "That poor man jumped from such a height? What a hideous tragedy. Peace be upon his soul and those of his loved ones."
"Daaaamn" was all Sans could say. He might have killed the guy and covered it up, but he couldn't look that cute telling a bare-ass lie! Also... "Ain't you a priestess? Isn't that a little...?"
Frisk scowled. Despite her bedhead and furry robe, she was the very image of sternness and, yes, determination. "I was taught that it is my duty to aid the weak and be an instrument of justice against people who, for example, want to stab me in my own bedroom when I've done nothing to harm them. It's no sin to protect yourself."
The skeleton shrugged, holding his hands out. "Okay, that's enough. I think I love ya. Where do I sign up to kill people for you?"
The priestess laughed. "I bet you say that to every girl you try to escape from. And, please, don't kill anyone." She glanced at the clock, and her amusement melted into panic. "Dirt! I have matins in twenty minutes!" She sprang to her feet and made a beeline for her dressing room. "Can you please find my veil for me?" she called before she shut the door.
Sans also got up, muttering, "'Dirt'? Seriously?" as he retrieved the veil from where it had blown onto the table. As an afterthought, he returned to the bedroom and picked up the assassin's daggers. He studied them, saying out loud, "I think I'm screwed, is what I am," then placed them on the nightstand.
He heard Frisk emerge from her dressing room and went to meet her as she asked, "Sans, do you have my—"
He handed the veil over. "Thank you, sir." She threw the veil over her head and adjusted the headdress over it. "May I assume that you haven't been to many religious services?"
"Er..."
"Well, we have an oral contract, effective immediately, and I am going to church, so you are going to church." She inclined her head, moving toward the double doors. "Follow me."
And, of course, he did.

Page 9: Dementia patient Kenny Rogers cut his three adult children out of his $250 million will and now sources fear the late country legend could have been tricked into signing the document -- Kenny left everything to his 16-year-old twins sons with fifth wife Wanda and the will also stated it was his intent to specifically exclude his daughter Carole with his first wife and son Kenny Jr. with third wife and son Christopher with fourth wife and their issue as beneficiaries of his estate -- Kenny Sr. would never disown his own children according to the source especially since the singer’s son Kenny Jr. is incorrectly referred to Kenny Rogers III throughout the will -- the wording is not like Kenny Sr. and something is not right and his older kids are thinking about contesting the will

Magnum P.I. S02xE18-20 spoilers and tidbits
I thought i’ll give a prologue first 😅 Remember i pet project where i was trying to decipher the episode names? yea i didn’t get very far on that.. but i have come to a conclusion, that each title is a convention for what the clients in that episode, and/or our P.I. is going through. Eg. S02xE16 : Farewell To Love
Episode starts with Gladys and Bert who had given up on love but eventually found it in one another. The fact that Gladys narrated this part makes it poetic in a sense that she was the one who had to say bid farewell to Bert. Then TC and Teresa, they found the one that they always loved. The one who made them happier, but TC had to let her go go, he bid farewell to his love, instead of ruining 3 lives. In the beginning of the episode, we see magnum all in for online dating, but after what happened with Dylan, we see him coming to an abrupt conclusion that online dating is just isn’t the thing for him, also adding to the fact, the girl who met through an app (Abby) had just recently broken off with him. So magnum kind of bid a metaphorical farewell to finding love online.
Spoilers for S02x18, S02x19 and S02x20 under the cut if you wish to continue. Warning: My rant got hella long, longer than i planned and there are lots of pics and links below. Thanks @maggiesoa and @lizzysfavs for providing some food for my thoughts 😊
So.. lets begin with S02x18 : A world of trouble I’m just grouping together the pics that I’ve found so far which seem to be related to episode 18: Perdy and Bobby discussed about having a scene together ignore jay’s comment here, I’m all for #TeamJin and I will riot if they ever kill him. I believe the episode starts with Jin, showing up at Robin’s nest, where he ends up in a situation where he has to change in magnum’s clothes (note the t-shirt magnum is ironing... (Edit: DIDN'T HAPPEN!!?? I MEAN!! This could have been cute.. didn't have to be a total BTS for once!!) Where we get this scene, All i can guess right now is that is a tab in Jin’s had, and he’s being a fair judge for miggy while they prepare for their visa interview, or he could be here with today’s case
Which takes us to to the primary promo for 2x18, where they solve the case at hand. Now my guess is that the case doesnt take up entire 47 minutes, because this promo also exists. What this secondary promo also shows is them at a office(?) guessing visa or may be its a school where the current client works? where magnum/higgy blurts out that they’re marrying and some lady says that they don’t look like a couple. We also see Katsumoto warning Higgy about the consequences of marrying their business partner. (Edit: this did happen and fueled Higgy’s resolve to back out.. nothing wrong there..but as Jin said.. may it be with Magnum or TC, u’re still breaking the law Mrs. I can figure out how pretending with TC is going to get good results? if anything.. it only comes out of nowhere) I’m sensing a connection here again with the title of the episode: A world of trouble: - The current client, the case was definitely given to them by some one else because they approach the lady coz Higgy says “You’re in trouble, we just want to help you.”, which means she might have refused help at one point. - Literally 2 people in a 2 min worth promo have commented on their wedding, does this not sound like trouble to you?
When magnum is possibly heading out to go to La Mariana, (Edit: DING! DING! DING! This was indeed before the bar scene.. which kinda broke my heart.. but we’ll talk about that in detail later) she tells him that she’s reconsidered her decision that she will be marrying TC instead (which is weird, but for the sake of it, OK). Which also implies that she’s going to have a heart to heart with TC how she had one with Rick before in 2x13. (Edit: Umm.. i would have liked to hear the entire convo here.. but i guess its going to come back a flashback some day?) Magnum than heads to the bar, with Jin where he meets up with his friends and we get this, going by past experiences, this is going to be the last scene where he’s with his friends. Now what leaves me confused is this guy below, the one that magnum rescued and now has a food truck (Rem S1x01, they got him all the way from there now). He’s not listed for 2x18, but the actors caption says 2x18? So is he like the caterer for the wedding? (i thought kamekona was doing that?) or he’s there for entirely other reason?
Now this all leads up to S02x19 : May The Best One Win Again the title is the synopsis here,
Magnum and Higgins are each hired by a different spouse who are in the middle of a contentious divorce to dig up dirt on the other, and Thomas and Higgins soon find themselves competing over resources.
But i don’t think them competing again each other is the only thing here, remember this gem from TV guide magazine? - Jay mentions there being an odd jealousy there, and there is something percolating between the duo which magnum doesn’t want to address just yet. I think the competition is not just between Magnum and Higgy, for magnum it is also between him and TC. May be he’ll be still trying to show her that he is the one she should be marrying, even if that’s fake. - And for the implied element we also have this garage fight, where they’re up against “just one guy, but a very big guy”. This again i don’t think takes forever to solve since, there’s an upcoming wedding everyone has to attend, we’ve all seen the famous pics, but this:
Him again!! And looks like he is in fact catering the event. Now since S02x19 and S02x20 are to be merged into one mega episode, lets slip into: S02x20 : A Leopard on the Prowl
Magnum and Higgins help Rick when his father figure, Icepick , just out of prison and battling terminal cancer, gets double crossed on one last score. Also, Magnum makes one last bold move to help Higgins stay in the country.
This is the rick centric episode the viewers were promised, Adding pics of Zac coz he looks great here:
But do you see anything missing here? My sleep deprived brain does. Icepick seems to be have fallen pray to something on the run, nothing pre-planned, the guy has terminal cancer, he’s dying any day now, why would someone spend any time to plan something against him? (He’s probably going to die in this epi..he only had few months.. the article says “reluctantly try to help him” seriously guys why do you have to be reluctant? And below pic is probably of the same related fight scene Jay talked about in the TV guide snippet:
And if the video Jay uploaded is even close to the actual scene, it could be because the guy hit Rick/Higgy and Magnum picked up another fight with him.. or that’s just for insta.. I’ll leave it open. There’s a fight scene with TC as well i suppose. Now what does the title have to do with the episode? Here’s my theory: - Remember Dr. Kim i already mentioned twice above. He’s gotta be here for more than just “catering the wedding”, magnum said he was a code breaker, he was mentioned in one of Robin’s books, he instantly identified the co-ordinates which Nuzzo left for Magnum, (which is duh! u’re telling me that magnum was a navy SEAL and can read waves but cant piece together actual co-ordinates?!!). Magnum was kidnapped by Ivan’s people coz he needed something from him which was in the books, later Ivan had magnum delivered to himself on a secret mission of retrieving Hayek, who was a weapons dealer but he got away with drones instead.. I think this is all related somehow, there has to be something in this episode that points to this.. I thought may be its in Robin’s books.. but they have never mentioned the same book twice.. I’m still looking for answers though.. But going ahead, see this ,
“ Magnum makes one last bold move to help Higgins stay in the country.” “You see Higgins in a unexpected position, which magnum is very uncomfortable with and where he is not sure about his place”
Soo.. the wedding didn’t happen? So that’s not helping her stay in the country?
It didn’t bother me much before.. but think about this, what if since the wedding plan backfired, she has to go back to London until her visa is renewed/reapplied for : an unexpected position since she has found something in Hawaii she doesn’t want to loose. Which leaves magnum as the in-charge of Robin’s nest and Zeus and Apollo and part of the deal [I can almost see my HC at the horizon]. An uncomfortable position where he has to manage the estate and the hounds of hell without his “professional better half”. I think there is a beach good-bye scene on this day, may be an actual hug between miggy? Supporting evidence as follows:
Now the last attempt Magnum makes, does he offer her a job? Does he confess? But that wouldn’t automatically land her in an unexpected situation , that would be magnum putting her in that situation while being full aware of his position. I bet lenkov has got pretty good plan for this to play out. Now this doesn’t back up my crack where Higgins leaves, because
This story was posted along with the one where magnum is boating.. so they’re probably from the same episode.. where the last ditch effort has paid off but Magnum and Higgins roles have now been shifted a little and lenkov’s quote makes sense “Nothing really changes”.. has anyone ne noticed that there are no Juliet pics from 2x20 yet?
I cant wait to see that though.. and for a 100% i know there is a season 3, its a gut feeling i have. Thank you for stopping by.. sorry it was too long 😘

Red - An Akatsuki no Yona FanFiction
Hi guys, this is my first time writing a Fanfic for AnY, so I hope you like it! I wanted to do something different from the norm, and this is what I came up with. I will post to FF tomorrow (:
The sun had begun to set. The sky ever so slightly taking in splashes of orange, yellow, pink, and red. The color red was prominent that day. There was red in the field, originating from bodies of allies and enemies. Soldiers lay covered in thick, red blood all around, motionless and unbothered by what was happening. Yona’s red hair shone brightly in the sunlight that was gradually disappearing, but that was not the only red on her. Hak’s blood stained her clothes and covered her hands. She was on the grassy field, holding him close to her, making sure his warmth would not leave. Her right hand supported the back of his neck, while the other was placed on his abdomen, holding together the bandage she hastily put on him to stop his bleeding. Red had invaded his person as well, his blue cloak, sash, and clothes were covered in blood, from his own and from those he cut down. Hak hadn’t opened his eyes in a while, but every so often a small breath came out from his mouth, and his eyes would move ever so little, which slightly calmed Yona.
Kye-Sook and his mercenaries loomed over the couple on their horses, spears and swords aimed at them. Yona thought it unnecessary, what could they do in their weakened state? If they had found themselves in this situation thirty minutes ago, their predicament might have been different, but everything happened so fast.
Yona and Hak had found themselves separated from the Dragons and Yoon. They were part of a different fighting squad, meant to protect the villagers from the oncoming attack from the Kai Empire, while Yona, Hak, and a few Fire Tribe soldiers were meant to provide backup for the Sky Tribe. Something went wrong in the process. The Sky Tribe never showed, only Kye-Sook and a group of roughly fifty mercenaries. Yona and Hak wondered if Soo-Won had only decided to send a few of his soldiers, as it was rumored that the Kai Empire attack was done by a small band of 100 men. Everything appeared normal for a little while, until Hak questioned why Kye-Sook was sent to lead the charge rather than the Sky Tribe General, Joo-Doh. Silence fell in the group as more and more mercenaries began to appear. The small group of Fire Tribe soldiers made no sudden movements, understanding the situation they were in. Hak put his arm in front of Yona in a protective manner, as they all prepared to fight. The mercenaries on horseback made the first attack on the Fire Tribe soldiers, taking out a few men in one hit with their long spears. Blood came flying out of their wounds, covering their allies and the ground in the thick red liquid. Those not hit by the initial blow began fighting back. Hak, fearing the worst could happen, told Yona to run away, but immediately she refused. Taking out her bow, Yona began firing shots at the mercenaries, while Hak stayed in front of her, slashing those who got too close to them. When an opening for them to run appeared, Hak took Yona by the hand and headed towards an area with scattered trees. It was a last ditch effort to get Yona to safety. He was unsure whether this would change their fate, but he had to try, for her. Tears started to run down Yona’s cheeks, turning her face into a soft red. Hak’s wounds began to get to him, a large gash on his abdomen bled profusely, draining his energy. They had to stop running. Hak had to crouch, holding his wound, and he urged Yona to continue without him, yet again she refused. She ripped part of her skirt to wrap around Hak’s wounded body, a soft smile appeared on her face as small tears fell from her eyes when wrapping the bandage. While it wasn’t much, she was helping Hak, the person whom she loved dearly. Hak’s eyes grew smaller with fatigue, he wiped the tears off of her cheeks before drifting away. A part of him hoped that this wasn’t the end, he wouldn’t let himself think otherwise. Yona held him close to her body, listening for signs of life.
The battle went on behind them, with the mercenaries wiping out all of the Fire Tribe soldiers. The soldiers and Hak managed to take out half of the mercenaries, but they were outnumbered. This was the only outcome. Kye-Sook looked for the couple, once seeing them, he pointed his group over to where they were, surrounding the two.
“Why are you doing this? Is this Soo-Won’s doing?” Yona questioned with rage, yet her voice trembled anyways. Kye-Sook looked down on the girl and the person she was holding, and spoke in his monotone manner.
“You are a dangerous person, Princess Yona. Many people would follow you after all the aid you and your group have provided. I cannot allow you to continue and ruin the work that the King and I have done for this country... But no. This is not his Majesty’s idea. Purely mine.”
Fear and dread filled her mind. Yona could only wonder if the Kai Empire was even attacking, and if it was all made up by Kye-Sook. Are Jae-Ha, Zeno, Shin-ha, Kija, and Yoon alive? Did they know what happened here? Yona decided not to bring them up, in case this was the only group of mercenaries sent to attack. Tears filled her eyes once again, but rage was the primary emotion that she felt at this very moment. She felt rage that she couldn’t do anything to save the Fire Tribe soldiers. Rage that Kye-Sook pulled an attack. Rage that she couldn’t help Hak in his time of need.
“So then, how does this end? What do you want from me?” Yona asked angered, wiping the tears from her eyes. The previously dried blood was now smeared across her cheeks.
“Your demise.” Kye-Sook replied without missing a beat. Yona’s eyes widened, letting out a small gasp in the process. Instinctively she held Hak closer to her, fearing that they wanted to end his life as well. Hak remained in his unconscious state. A part of the red headed girl wished that he would conveniently open his eyes at the mention of her death, and that the two would fight together once again to escape and see their friends.. It was all just a fantasy. Even if Hak did open his eyes, in his weakened state he wouldn’t be able to fight against the remaining mercenaries. Nor could she provide much help.
“If you come with us without a fight,” Kye-Sook started, “Then we will spare the Thunder Beast..” The King’s advisor knew that this was the easiest way to get the Princess without more of a struggle. Kye-Sook also knew that without first aid the Thunder Beast was just as good as dead. Killing two birds with one stone, the situation couldn’t have gone better for him. Yona didn’t speak for a while. She was processing what the King’s advisor had just told her. Her life for Hak’s. She knew that Hak wouldn’t last much longer without proper care to his wounds. She knew that was what Kye-Sook knew as well. Touching his wound, Yona felt more tears fall from her eyes, and onto his bandage.
“If I give myself to you... You will spare Hak’s life. Correct?”
“Yes.” Kye-Sook sighed. This was taking longer than he expected.
“I’ll agree on one condition,” Yona looked dead into Kye-Sook’s eyes, a fire burning within her own, “Allow me to apply first aid to Hak’s wounds.” She gave the King’s Advisor a look that told him she knew what he was thinking. The makeshift bandage that Yona had placed earlier was now soaked in red.
“Very well. I will allow you ten minutes to do what you need on the Thunder Beast.” Kye-Sook sighed once again. He wanted the least amount of struggle possible at this point. He wondered what kind of aid the red haired Princess could even provide for someone this injured.
The mercenaries no longer pointed their weapons toward Hak and Yona, but surrounded them nonetheless. Yona sighed a shaky breath. This was it. The ten minutes she was granted to help Hak’s wounds. With all her might she wished that the Dragons would appear out of nowhere to save the two. But once again, it was just a fantasy that would never happen. Yona ripped a larger part of her skirt, and took off the first layer of her top. Carefully removing the previous bandage she fastened it onto Hak’s wounds, she began talking to the unconscious Thunder Beast, “Hey Hak...” Yona said in a quiet voice, “I’m not sure if you can hear me, but you’re going to be okay. I’m making sure of it.” She then put pressure on the wound with her top, and wrapped it securely and tightly with her ripped skirt. She did it just as Yoon would. This bandage was more secure than the other one, but she made it look sloppy to prevent Kye-Sook and his mercenaries from finishing off Hak after. After tying a knot on the bandage, Yona brushed the hair out of Hak’s face, memorising every detail on him. He was still breathing, it was soft, but it was something. Holding the back of his neck again, she slowly ran a finger along his jaw. No tears fell from her eyes this time. While time was fleeting, she enjoyed looking at his features and touching him. She wouldn’t allow herself to think about how this was the last time, giving into those thoughts would make things even worse than they already were. “Hak,” Yona said again, “I hope you can hear me.” She leaned in close to his face, “I love you.” Yona whispered so only the two could hear her speak. The red haired Princess kissed him, her shaking mouth moved onto his. While he remained still, Yona felt a small twitch come from his bottom lip. Deep down she wished he wouldn’t wake up. Wake up and see her being escorted away only to be killed moments later. This was the only wish of hers that was granted.
Yona placed Hak’s head gently on the grass, and then she stood up. Her hair shone exceptionally red at this very moment. Reflecting the sun, reflecting the sky that was now a deep red, and reflecting the rage that she had for Kye-Sook. She stepped away from the person she loved dearly, looking back only once at his resting body. His arms were laid sloppily across his chest, and his head facing away from her. Yona made herself think about how calm he looked, about how he was just sleeping. He was going to be alright. She made sure of it.
Two mercenaries took hold of the red haired Princess, holding her arms tightly behind her back. While she made no sound, her face showed signs of pain and discomfort. They moved the Princess back to where the original battle was held, where the bodies of the Fire Tribe soldiers lay. Kye-Sook descended from his horse, his curved sword in his right hand. Disregarding her pain, Yona looked upon the man with burning hatred. With his left hand, Kye-Sook took hold of Yona’s face, aligning their eyes. His cold black eyes met hers, showing neither delight or sorrow for what he was doing. “Think of this as a way to help the Kingdom, Princess Yona.” Kye-Sook spoke in a normal manner. How could he be so calm at a time like this? Doing a thing like this? This made Yona’s heart sink deep into her chest, it began to beat as fast and as hard as it ever could. Her body shook in fear, yet the red haired Princess kept a collected face. Right as the King’s advisor let go of his grip on her, Yona wished for Jae-ha to come in from above and save her. She wished for Kija to swipe the mercenaries away, for Shin-Ha, Zeno, Yoon, Hak, anyone to come to her rescue.
Those thoughts left her mind immediately as Kye-Sooks curved sword came slashing down onto Yona’s body. Her clothes ripped, to reveal a gash that lead from her breastbone down to her stomach. The pain was unbearable. The feeling of her skin being torn open felt like fire going up and down her body. All she could do was to let out a staggered scream that took her breath away, easing the pain only for a brief second. Yona’s natural reaction was to try and put pressure on her wound, but with both her arms held behind her and she could do was struggle. She felt her blood leave her body, and fall on the grass, turning it dark red. Her warmth was leaving her, which eased her pain a little. Yona had no more energy left. She slumped her body, her head hung, where she looked her wound. The red substance was oozing out of her at an alarming rate. Yona’s breathing began to be painful, resulting in her taking slow shallow breaths. She tasted blood in her mouth, and after doing so she saw it drip out onto the ground. This was the end.
“Finish her.” The King’s advisor demanded to the mercenaries holding her. Pulling out a sword, the mercenary to Yona’s right took a fistful of red hair and pulled her head back. The cold metal on her neck shocked Yona. She closed her eyes and gritted her teeth, well knowing what would happen next. The motion of the mercenary’s sword was deep and fast, tearing open the Princess’ throat like it was nothing. More pain was added to Yona’s suffering. More burning, more blood, more certainty of death. This time she was unable to let out a scream, as she choked on her own blood. The mercenaries let go of her, where her body fell heavily onto the blood soaked ground. Able to move in her last few moments of life, Yona shakily reached out in the direction Hak’s body lay. As she felt her blood engulf her, she felt its warmth, and suddenly the pain was beginning to go away. Yona’s dawn was over, her sun was now setting on her life. Her last few thoughts were of Hak, and her friends. She never thought about how devastated they were going to be. In her last moment Yona felt tired, so she closed her eyes and thought about the Happy Hungry Bunch together and happy again.
Yona’s body was on its front, in a pool of blood. The path of tears was visible on her face from where it wiped blood from her cheeks. Her eyes were slightly open, and a hand was extended toward the west.
Kye-Sook and his remaining mercenaries left to return to the castle, keeping their word about leaving the injured Thunder Beast alone.
Hak awoke in a cold sweat with a searing pain on his torso. Propping himself on one elbow, he saw a wound on his abdomen, that was hastily wrapped. Looking around his surroundings, Hak was able to remember the battle from a few hours ago. Panic set in as he recalled that the Princess was with him before, and now was nowhere to be found. Hak looked back down at his bandage, recognizing the fabric used to stop his bleeding, was Yona’s top and part of her skirt. Hak tried his best to quickly stand up, wincing in pain several times while doing so. He leaned on his glaive for support. His legs were shaky, but he began to look around for Yona. Doing so was incredibly hard. The moon was currently in its stage where it shone no light down upon the Earth, and to make things worse a light mist covered the area. Heading in the direction of the battle, the bodies of the Fire Tribe soldiers began to appear. Hak worried that one of these bodies might be that of his Princess. Fear and anxiety filled his mind, forming a pit in his stomach that made his body even harder to move. As he saw more and more bodies of those who were there to help him and Yona, his breathing became unsteady and his heart beat nearly through his chest. There was no way that Yona would be among these bodies, after all, she had healed his wounds...
Off in the distance was a smaller body than those of the Fire Tribe soldiers, a body that seemed to match that of Yona’s. Upon looking at the small body Hak’s heart stopped while he fell to his knees. Dropping his glaive, Hak ran towards the body, ignoring all the pain he felt before and ignoring his wound reopening. Fresh blood began to appear through his bandage once again. No.. No.. Please don’t let it be her.. Hak’s mind went wild, fearing and somewhat denying what was reality. Tears streamed down his face, drying before they could reach the ground.
Upon reaching the small body, Hak’s worst fears came to life. He saw Yona’s motionless body, same as all of the other Fire Tribe soldiers he saw previously. Her body lay in a pool of her drying blood, so much that Hak knew what it meant and started to cry even harder. He crouched down in front of her body, turning her over in the small chance that she could be alive somehow. When she was turned over he saw that his wish of the red haired girl being alive vanished. Holding her body Hak could feel how cold she was. Her head was slumped away from him, revealing the large cut on her throat. The gash on her torso wasn’t easy to miss either, and was still wet to the touch. Hak made this mistake by touching her stomach, and removing his hand immediately upon feeling her wound. Hak let out a blood wrenching scream into the night, as more and more tears fell down his cheeks, which now reached his and Yona’s bodies. The scream echoed for a few seconds before the air was filled with the sounds of sobbing. He held her body close to his, not realizing that his blood was getting everywhere. Seeing that her eyes were still open, Hak placed a shaky hand onto them and closed them gently. Sobbing more and more Hak could only wonder how something so horrible could have happened. Remembering the bandage on him was made from Yona’s clothing, he came to the conclusion that she has protected him. This thought only made him sob more, and wish that he could have protected her in return. Now she was gone, and he could only feel that he had failed his Princess.
The mist surrounded Hak. His skin began to turn pale, and now unable to cry, his body trembled and ached. Currently he thought about the Dragons and Yoon, and how utterly devastated they were going to be, just as he is. In his mind he heard their cries of anguish, their loud sobs and their anger towards the man who did this. He also worried for their safety, having the same thought as Yona, that the Kai Empire attack was faked. He had to go check on them... But he couldn’t leave Yona. Leaving his glaive behind, Hak took Yona’s body in his arms, carrying her as gently as if she were still alive. Every step he took hurt, only now realizing that his wound had reopened. Nonetheless the Thunder Beast continued forward.
Hak had made it quite far before his legs gave out. He sat down, still holding Yona’s body close to his. He had hoped that he got far enough to where Yoon and the Dragons were that they would eventually find him. Feeling the life slipping out of him, Hak released a shaky sigh. If he could, he was certain that he would still be crying, yet his body could produce no more tears, only pain. He leaned against a tree, and watched the night sky turn into pale pastels of what it once was due the sun rising. The dawn was here again, but he could barely keep himself from closing his eyes. Exhaustion and fatigue swept over his body faster than he had imagined. Looking down at the Princess still in his arms, he decided to write the name “Kye-Sook” in the dirt next to them. Even a small task such as that drained him. Upon completion he let his body go limp. Feeling one last tear roll down his cheek, Hak fell into an endless slumber, the same which his Princess did so many hours ago.
EPILOGUE
Yona sat in a field of white flowers. She held onto her knees, watching the flowers move with the wind underneath the sunrise. The sky was a light blue with pastel pinks and yellow coloring the horizon. The sun begin to appear, when she heard movement in the field coming from behind her. Turning around slowly, she saw Hak standing above her, with a small smile and tears in his eyes. Yona stood up and gasped, tears beginning to well in her lilac eyes.
“Hi.” The red haired girl said.
“Hey.” Hak replied in a joyous voice.
The two stood looking at each other, delighted to see one another again, but still distraught at the circumstances that brought the two together once again.

The Best Fishing Guide
Steve Huff is lxv. He has been a fishing guide for the cardinal of these years, initial within the Florida keys and currently within the swamp town space, wherever he captive in 1996 along with his bright-eyed spouse, Patty. Huff’s specialty is fishing the thin water flats for malacopterygian, bonefish, permit, and snook, and he has guided his shoppers into unnumberable world-record fish. Last year he was inducted into the International sport fish Association’s Hall of Fame, that is that the fishing world’s town. In his book, A Passion for malacopterygian, Andy Mill calls Huff “bar none, the most effective malacopterygian guide alive, the most effective there was and also the best there ever are.” Marshall Cutchin, a former Keys guide and also the editor and publisher of the fly fishing web site midcurrent.com, goes even any, occupation him “the best guide who’s ever lived, period.”
This type of speak embarrasses Huff, United Nations agency prefers to shower accolades on others. “Steve could be a very humble guy,” says Sandy Moret, United Nations agency owns a fly search within the Keys and has fished with Huff for 3 decades. For Huff, it’s all pretty easy. “I’m simply a fishing guide,” he says. “My job is to form AN angler’s dream come back true.”
His own dreams area unit a part of the equation, as well. Guiding, at its essence, could be an unselfish endeavor, meshed to the happiness and success of the paying client, the “dream creating.” except for Huff, there's the rush—of being on the water nearly on a daily basis and making an attempt to work out the puzzle bestowed by the tides, the wind, the clouds, the fish, and also the angler’s ability. The climax, that final puzzle piece, is that the golf shot and landing of the guided angler’s targeted fish. Huff can’t live while not that rush.
Huff was born and raised in Miami. once he was 10, his father gave him a fishing rod, the primary piece of tackle he’d ever in hand. His father left the future day. Huff would neither see nor speak to him once more. “He was AN alcoholic and a gambler,” Huff says. “He in all probability died during a ditch somewhere.”
Huff is tough regarding the impact that his father’s going away might need to be had on his life. “I assume we have a tendency to age to be no matter we have a tendency to were meant to be,” he says. And anyway, thereupon rod, his father provided him with the primary tool for what would become his life’s permanent passion. Huff took the rod, solid into a Miami canal, and caught a two-pound robalo. “That was it,” he says. “I was done.” He biked everywhere town, fishing in backyards and canals. {one day|at some point|in the future|someday|sooner or later|in some unspecified time within the future} he sneaked down a hole in the middle of a causeway bridge. He solid a lure from a ladder and caught a twenty-seven-pound robalo, to the current day his largest. He knew then that he would be a guide sometime.

On the water within the swamp.
While attending the University of Miami, Huff studied marine biology. once he graduated, he told his mother of his career plans. She wasn't happy. “She told ME that fishing guides were a bunch of drunks and bums which i might ne'er quantity to something,” Huff says.
Still, she cosigned a loan thus Huff might purchase his initial guide boat. He captive to the Keys, and on November 1, 1968, he took out his initial shopper. “Poor bastard,” Huff says. The day was windy and overcast and fishless. The guy ne'er came back. “I had no clue what i used to be doing,” Huff says. “I didn’t even grasp what I didn’t grasp.”

But Huff resolves to work it out. He poled for miles, into the teeth of twenty-five-knot headwinds. (“Best dray horse I’ve ever seen,” Cutchin says.) He scouted and discovered new spots. He tied his own flies, designed his own boats, fictitious new fishing knots. He stayed out longer than anyone else, creating the run back to the dock in complete darkness. He ne'er gave up.
And at intervals many years, people that fished with him once ne'er needed to go away him. “He’s intense and he expects you to match that intensity,” says one among his shoppers, the author Carl Hiaasen. “It causes you to a more robust angler.” Bill Hassett, an equipment store owner in St. Louis, Missouri, has fished with Huff for cardinal consecutive years. Lenny Berg, AN specialist in Fort Pierce, Florida, has been with him for xxxv years. Hiaasen could be a relative newcomer, having fished with Huff for fifteen years. “I simply feel lucky that he let ME on his boat,” Hiaasen says, laughing.
Those who do fish with him tend to urge greedy. The late Del Brown once reserved Huff for cardinal days one year to fish for allowing within the Keys. Tom Evans, holder of sixteen world records, once fast him in from March one to Gregorian calendar month fifteen. Huff currently incorporates a list of regarding fifteen shoppers, to whom he's intensely loyal (he turned down a visit with George H. W. Bush in favor of 1 of his already-booked regulars). He has taken on specifically one new shopper within the last twenty years.
His shoppers became his dearest friends. “When you’re during a boat along for 10 to 12 hours on a daily basis, you quickly get past the tiny speakers,” Huff says. “You laugh and you cry alone.” One shopper perpetually complained regarding his spouse for years. Hoping to vary the topic on the water someday, Huff flat out told him he ought to divorce her. the person referred to as back per week later and told Huff that he had filed divorce papers. “I said, ‘You’ve ought to be excreting ME,’” Huff says.

A snook.
As with all intense relationships, complications will arise. Huff not fishes with one among his longest-tenured shoppers. “One day I simply told him what he was: a selfish prick,” Huff says. The guy asked Huff why it took him ciao to work that out. to the current day, the 2 still speak on the phone many times a year, unable to fully disconnect. one among the saddest endings came with Del Brown, United Nations agency posthumously still holds twelve world records. Huff and Brown had fished along since 1980. They were an ideal combine on the water, with matching intensity and drive. however one late afternoon in 2001, once Brown was lxxxiii, Huff poled for AN hour into the wind to urge Brown in position to fish. Huff waited for Brown to carry up his finish of the discount and solid for a fish. however, Brown place his rod down and told Huff he needed to travel in. Huff was wracked with heaving sobs as he ran the boat in. At the dock, he told Brown through tears that he couldn't fish with him any longer. “It was very my downside,” Huff says. “Del was obtaining older and that i simply didn’t need to admit it. It busts my heart.” Brown died 2 years later.
Huff has witnessed several strange moments throughout his cardinal years on the water. AN unhooked 100-pound malacopterygian once leaped into his boat and hit a feminine shopper squarely within the chest. (On his boat future year, she wore a flak jacket as a gag.) One year he was fishing with Tom Evans once Evans suddenly had to use the lavatory. As Evans adorned off the rear of the boat, he asked Huff to solid for a rolling malacopterygian. Huff did, and he hooked and landed a 186-pound malacopterygian, which might are the globe record. however, Huff ne'er submitted it to the IGFA. “Tom needed that record thus badly,” he says. per week later, Huff junction rectifier Evans into a 177-pounder, that so did become the globe record.
But maybe the strangest factor happened with a person named Everett Watkins, United Nations agency flew from CA to fish with a disciple United Nations agency had started a visit with Huff. Watkins, AN weighty man, hooked a 125-pound malacopterygian on one among his initial casts. however, he vies the fish terribly slowly as if he were during a trance. “I told him he required in grips down on the fish as a result of there area unit solely 2 things that might happen: He would land the fish or he would break down,” says Huff. “Little didi do know there was truly a 3rd situation.”
With the fish still on his line, Watkins suddenly folded face-first onto the bow. Huff bust off the fish and ran back to the dock at full speed. “He was blue after they loaded him onto the car,” Huff says. It clothed that Watkins had AN aneurysm and was dead before he hit the deck. “I felt very unhealthy and that i asked his crony what we must always do,” Huff says. “He told ME Everett would have needed USA to travel back and fish. So we did. and that we caught 2 nice malacopterygians.” The incident spawned over many unhealthy jokes. “People aforesaid, ‘Damn, Steve, people very area unit dying to fish with you,’ and ‘Why did you break the fish off?’” Huff says. He currently takes AN angler back to the dock at the primary sign of physical distress.

Huff along with his fly-caught 186-pound malacopterygian in 1977.
Luckily, I feel pretty smart on this overcast and funky morning as Huff and that i build a thirty-minute run into the center of what Peter Matthiessen referred to as “shadow country”—the large sky, knotty mangroves, and moving water that area unit the swamp. Huff cuts the engine and hops au fait his poling platform. He’s sporting a khaki-colored shirt and pants and a combine of closed-toed Crocs. He propels the boat forward with apparently very little effort along with his twenty-one-foot pole. We’re when robolo, the fish that has remained Huff’s favorite since his childhood days in Miami.

I fill in the bow and solid a yellow streamer that Huff devised. (“It doesn’t have a reputation. It’s simply ruminant hair and chicken feathers,” he says.) The wind from AN incoming storm is brisk however not intolerable. I’m not specifically throwing strikes with each solid. I begin to press a touch, and also the casts get even worse. Huff provides ME an important pointer: “Just hold your back solid a touch longer,” he says. I quickly see positive results. Huff poles the USA on, fifty feet some from the bank. rapidly, I begin obtaining solid takes, ANd at intervals an hour, I’ve landed 5 small (two- to four-pound) Robalo.

Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Steven Universe (Cartoon) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Graphic Depictions Of Violence Relationships: Amethyst/Peridot (Steven Universe) Characters: Amethyst (Steven Universe), Peridot (Steven Universe) Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Human, Halloween Summary:
Autumn Amedot Week Prompt 1; Halloween. A Halloween night that was meant to be fun turns nightmarish as Peridot faces the ultimate horror movie scenario.
(I’m not really 100% happy with this, but I really wanted to do SOMETHING for Amedot Week, so here we are.)
FULL FIC UNDER THE CUT AS WELL
“Hey, it’s me. If you’re a telemarketer, please leave me alone. Otherwise, leave a message after the beep. Maybe I’ll get back to you in the next millennia, but you really should just message me on Facebook. What’re you doing calling my phone, anyway? What is this, the early 2000s? Who do you think I-” The message tone cut off the girl with its blaring beep, and Peridot rolled her eyes.
“Amethyst, it’s Peridot,” Peridot started, giving Pumpkin’s leash a light tug to guide her away from a temptingly muddy puddle on the grassy side of the sidewalk. She scuffled along in her hard-soled slippers, her costume makeup already done. The Pomeranian bounced on ahead of her, sniffing at a small bush with shriveled flowers. “You were supposed to be at my house two hours ago! Where are you?! We’re already late for the party as it is, but now you’ve marred yourself as a completely unreliable ride! Anyway, call me back when you get this message so I know you’re not dead in a ditch. Or text me, whatever.” With a huff, Peridot aggressively tapped the hang up button and stuffed her phone into her sweatshirt pocket as a gust of cool night wind buffeted against her hooded head.
It had rained all day but despite the swamped yards and treacherous, pot-hole filled roads, trick-or-treaters young and old braved the neighborhood streets. Half of her own bowl of candy had already been picked through. Peridot hadn’t even planned to be at home this year, she was supposed to be at a party away from yelling children. Instead, she had been answering the door over and over and over for two hours straight, and finally said fuck it and escaped out the back door with her pet, leaving the bowl of candy to the mercy of children who didn’t understand the meaning of ‘take two’!
Admittedly, the young woman felt a little dorky out and about with a faceful of makeup by herself. She feared some people thought she was a middle schooler on the prowl for candy as well, but she was 22 and far too old for such traditions… At least to be doing it by herself. ‘No,’ she thought to herself, ‘Seriously, I’m way too old to be trick-or-treating. Yeah, Halloween parties with like-minded adults dressed in overly sexualized costumes of mustard bottles is more my speed… Ugh.’
Amethyst had the audacity to invite her to a cruddy party, insist that it wouldn’t be the same without her, then fall completely off the grid when it came time to pick her up? Her excuse better be that she was dead in a ditch. That would be sufficient enough.
“C’mon, Pumpkin,” Peridot cooed at her dog, whose tail wagged madly in response. “Let’s head back, I guess. Maybe Ames will make an appearance soon…” A shiver ran down her spine as she gazed out into the dark, open street. Leaves swirled into eerie figures in the distance. “…Hopefully.” Suddenly feeling nervous, Peridot scooped up her puppy and cradled her close, speed walking in the direction they had come from. Most of the swarms of costumed children had moved on from this street and onto the next, and her block of houses was nearly abandoned. She could spot her homey one-story abode in the distance and broke into a hurried jog.
She took her front steps two at a time and dug through her back sweatpants pockets with one hand, Pumpkin safely tucked under her arm, frantically searching for her house keys. A presence loomed somewhere nearby, and she swore she heard something shuffling in the brush, but when she glanced back, there was nothing. Shaking her head in hopes of dispelling the irrational paranoia, she then checked her sweatshirt pocket for the keys, but couldn’t find them there either. With a frustrated groan, she descended the stairs once again and went to reach into the cranberry bush beside the rails-
“RAHH!” A masked figure leaped out of the bush beside her, waving around a chainsaw that roared to life. Peridot yelped, jumping back with eyes wide, but a second later grew oddly calm.
“C’mon, Amethyst, you need to try harder than that!” The figure lowered her weapon in defeat, letting the growl of the fake prop die off. She lifted her Jason-styled killer hockey mask from her face, revealing cat whiskers and a severe black winged cat eye. “Everyone knows Jason doesn’t have a chainsaw, that’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre! Get it? Texas Chainsaw Massacre?”
Amethyst cracked a cheeky grin, rubbing her elbow. “Aww, shucks. I thought I could get you pretty good! Why didn’t you shit yourself?”
“Because,” with a snort, Peridot gave her girlfriend a playful shove to the shoulder. “You’re not exactly the most intimidating person, even behind the mask. I mean- you’re scary, just not in that way.” Amethyst’s face dropped, and she pouted.
“You’re too harsh. And critical. And a giant nerd,” with each verbal jab, she poked Peridot’s ticklish sides, making the woman squirm and jerk away.
“Hey, stop that-!” Holding in a bubble of giggles, Peridot escaped the attack and reached back into the cranberry bush for the hidden key that she had velcroed to the side of the staircase. “What’s wrong with you, anyway? Do you know how late you are?” Amethyst snatched Pumpkin from Peridot’s arms, kissing her all over her tiny dog face and cooing sweetly.
“I know, Pumpkin, isn’t Mommy such a hardass? Say it with me, ha-r-d-ass!” The puppy yipped in response, her entire fluffy body wiggling in the girl’s grip. Peridot unlocked the front door at last with a clunk, and she grabbed the now-barren candy bowl that sat on the porch chair.
“Hey! Shut up, you’re the hardass,” the blonde countered, pulling off her hood and letting her messy mop of bleached hair free. “Hold on, I gotta get dressed still.”
“Well come on! Hurry up! What’re you waiting for?!”
“I’m not the one who disappeared for two hours!” Peridot snapped, lingering at the front door entrance as Amethyst hopped up the porch stairs after her. “Where were you, anyway?”
“Oh, you know, just… somewhere.” With a sneaky wink, Amethyst set Pumpkin down on the floor and the puppy scurried off to the living room. Peridot raised a skeptical eyebrow, but decided it would be best not to question further. Instead, she spun around and rounded the corner to the bathroom, where her costume, a knee-length black witch dress, was laid out on the sink counter. She kicked the door shut, then stripped off her sweatshirt and sweatpants, slipping into the itchy dress. She topped off her costume with a large, pointed witch hat, and leaned in close to the mirror to check on her dramatic green eyeshadow and black lipstick. If there was one thing she still adored about Halloween, it was the costumes. Even if she was being dragged to a shitty basement party, it was worth it.
Satisfied with her look, Peridot rushed from the bathroom, tossed a few treats to her pet, and locked the front door. Her ring of keys sat on the side table next to the coat rack, and she cursed herself for forgetting about them before going for her short walk. She grabbed them and popped them into her small shoulder bag, double-checking she also had her phone, then bound out the door. “We’re already late, you know how I feel about that.”
“I know, I know,” Amethyst snorted, taking Peridot’s hand and walking her to the car, where she opened the passenger door and bowed jokingly. “You can’t stand it. How will you be able to go on?” Dramatically, Amethyst slammed the door shut and danced her way around the front of the car to the driver’s seat. Once in, she tossed her prop chainsaw and hockey mask into the backseat, alongside the littered trash and empty bottles of water. Peridot cringed, cautiously picking up a dirty-looking used napkin and chucking it behind her as well.
“I’ll live, but I don’t understand how you function like this.” The engine hacked and coughed its way to life and Amethyst backed out of the driveway, wheels squeaking and the frame of the car trembling from the effort. “Don’t you think it’s time for a new car…?”
“In this economy? Fuck no!” Amethyst retorted, straightening out the struggling vehicle as they got out onto the road. With a content sigh, she reclined back into the cushioned seat and reached a hand over to rest on Peridot’s thigh. “Relax, she’s fine. She’s a fighter, I’ll use her until the day she dies on me.”
Blushing, Peridot intertwined her fingers with her girlfriend’s, stacking their hands on top of her leg. “You’re so stubborn.” “Yeah, but you love it. I know you do.” With a cheeky grin, Amethyst leaned over and planted a sneaky kiss on Peridot’s cheek, which the blonde quickly tried to wipe away, but to no avail. It left a small black stain, from Amethyst’s black upper-lip to imitate a cat’s mouth. Grumbling, Peridot shrugged.
“I guess, if you say so…” She hid a smile by turning her head, gazing out the window as they exited her homey neighborhood and headed out onto the busier main road. “Where is this party, anyway?” To fill the car with some life, Amethyst flicked on the radio, leaving it on a station that was in the midst of a Halloween playlist.
“Up north, about 45 minutes. It’s this old haunted abandoned mansion, I’ve been there before-”
“Whoa whoa whoa,” Peridot recoiled, untangling their fingers and holding up her hands in defense. “I thought this was just gonna be one of your jackass basement parties. You didn’t mention the haunted mansion part!”
“It’s fine, you’re worrying too much! I don’t think it’s actually haunted or anything, it’s just a cool little place! It’s atmospheric.” Keeping her cool, Amethyst cranked up the music, successfully drowning out any further complaints that could’ve come from Peridot’s mouth with the hit song Monster Mash. Pouting, the blonde dodged an apologetic shoulder pat, swatting it away. “You’re gonna love it, I promise. We’ll have fun! It’s not even like a normal party. It’s fake-fancy, like there’s gonna be champagne and everyone’s gonna be in costume and in character- I thought you liked that kinda stuff!”
“I do, but…”
“But what? No butts allowed here, missy.” Stopping at a red light, right before the turn onto the highway, Amethyst tilted her head, pursing her lips together. “Don’t be a sourpuss. I invited you cuz I wanted you to come! A black cat needs her witch, and a witch needs her familiar, right? It wouldn’t have felt good if I had gone alone.” Peridot resisted Amethyst’s puppy dog eyes for as long as possible but quickly cracked under the pressure and gave her girlfriend the satisfaction of winning.
“Fine, you’re right. I just- hate scary places is all!” Peridot met Amethyst halfway over the middle console, pressing their lips together in a cold kiss.
“You? The one who binge watches horror movies even when it’s not Halloween? The one who watches these movies in the dark completely alone? You’re afraid of a little haunted house?” Amethyst stole another kiss before the light flickered green, and wrenched her car onto the highway. It whirred and wheezed as she picked up speed to merge into the main lanes. Peridot held on tight to the safety handle above the window.
“It’s- it’s different! All of those movies are fiction, but real life abandoned mansions are actually scary.” Surprisingly, there was very little traffic traveling down the expanse of road. Peridot watched as trees whizzed by, the street lamps doing little to illuminate the pitch black night.
“You’re silly. Why didn’t I scare you earlier, then? I thought I was pretty convincing.”
“Ugh, no. There’s a big difference between Jason Vorhees, you, and an actual murderer. I know you too well, you couldn’t even scare Steven.”
Amethyst scratched the back of her head, fluffing up her deep chocolate brown mane of hair. “Damn, I guess you’re right. I’ll leave the scaring to Jasper. I’m more of a romantic, anyway. Horror isn’t my genre.” The woman lifted her girlfriend’s hand to her lips, eyes wandering from the road ahead of her, and littered ticklish kisses along the back of her hand. Peridot giggled, thoroughly distracted as well.
Peridot spotted a figure standing in the middle of the highway lane in front of them, just out of the corner of her eye. She gasped, yanking her hand away from Amethyst. “Watch out-!” Amethyst jerked the wheel just in time, swerving out of the way of the darkened figure.
In the short second that it was caught in the headlights, Peridot could see it was holding something.
The car crunched as they barreled through the guardrails, and Peridot braced herself as they skidded down the steep incline and into the wooded area lining the highway. The radio turned to static and died out. They crashed into a tree, and the car spun sideways. The impact hit the driver’s side, crushing in the door and shattering the window into shards that flew everywhere. They flipped and tumbled a few times down the rest of the hill, before the vehicle creaked to a stop completely upside down.
Peridot pressed a hand against her pounding head. The airbag had deployed, but she had still banged her head against the side of the car’s frame, and she was bleeding from her forehead. Her seatbelt suspended her to the seat, but gravity pulled her downwards so she managed to undo the belt with a shaky hand. Still in shock, she reached over to tap Amethyst’s shoulder.
“Amethyst, are you okay?” Her heart dropped as she didn’t get a reply for a few seconds, but her girlfriend stirred with a groan.
“Fuck- no. I’m stuck.” As the girl lifted her head up, Peridot flinched as she realized not only did her girlfriend have slivers of glass sticking from her face, but her entire leg had been crushed under the pressure of the bent-in door. The girl tried to move it but hissed in pain, so Peridot gave her a stern shove.
“Stop, I’ll- I’ll call 911. Just leave it, you’re gonna end up ripping your own leg off.” Frazzled but attempting to compose herself, Peridot kicked out the passenger side window, which was already partially shattered, and crawled out the small space. She felt the pierce and prick of glass on the palms of her hands, but fought through the pain and fear until she felt soft grass and brittle leaves. Her witch dress was ripped down the side, enough to show her underwear, but that was the least of her worries as she dug out her phone, knees cold on the hard ground. She could barely dial the numbers, hands trembling as adrenaline pumped through her veins.
“Uh, Peridot…” she heard Amethyst mutter, but as she pressed her phone against her ear she didn’t listen. “Peridot, there’s someone-” Peridot spun her head, ducking to peek into the wrecked car. Amethyst’s gaze drew out her window and up the hill they had just come down. The phone began to ring.
The figure they had nearly plowed right through was approaching, moonlight shining down on them but not revealing any details. Peridot rose to her feet, eyebrows scrunching together in question. “Hey, are you okay? What were you doing standing in the middle of the-”
The figure lifted the blade of a chainsaw into the sky, the silhouette of it stark against the glowing moonlight. It roared to life, and Peridot’s blood ran cold. Her phone slipped from her hand.
“Peridot, run!”
Paralyzed by fear, Peridot froze on the spot and could only watch as the figure broke into a jog, covering the distance between itself and their ruined car. It swung the chainsaw, and sparks flew as it hit the metal, slicing through it like butter and screeching like a banshee.
“I said run!”
Peridot’s legs screamed in protest as she took off, bolting away from the scene and zigzagging through trees. As she faded away into the darkness of the woods, Amethyst’s blood-curdling scream echoed through the space, sending a terrible shiver down Peridot’s spine. She ran and ran and ran as fast as she could, not sure what even laid on the other side of the woods. It could be nothing. This could’ve gone on for forever. But she ran nonetheless, tears pricking her eyes.
‘This isn’t real. This can’t be real.’
Out of breath, the girl hid behind a wide tree, curling up in the indent at the base of the trunk. She covered her own mouth, muffling the cries that wanted to jump from her throat. She sat for what felt like hours but must’ve only been minutes. Slowly, she peeked around the base of the tree and observed the murky darkness. The wind blew through the branches, making the wood creak and moan, but besides that, it was silent. She squinted into the pitch black.
There stood the figure.
She gasped, quickly hiding against the tree again. She squeezed her eyes shut, listening carefully as heavy footsteps circled around her, crunching leaves and twigs beneath its weight. She could’ve run again, but to where? Maybe the figure didn’t see her after all. Maybe this was all a dream. Maybe it was all a prank. She couldn’t put it past Amethyst to pull something so elaborate, especially with some help. Peridot’s heart clenched in terror as she carefully opened her eyes…
The killer stood before her, in one hand holding a bloody chainsaw and in the other Amethyst’s prop. They wore Amethyst’s hockey mask as well, as if to mock her victim. Peridot leaped in surprised as the killer tossed her the plastic chainsaw, toting their own weapon with both hands.
“C…come on now, this is a joke, right?” The killer tilted their head, hand on the chord, ready to rev up the weapon once again. “This is just some sick prank? Who are you, Lapis? Maybe Pearl? You didn’t actually kill Amethyst, right? She’s okay back there, laughing her ass off?” With their head still tilted, as if playing with prey, the figure gave the chainsaw chord a yank, and the engine roared to life once again. Peridot scrambled against the tree. There was no escape, no open space for her to sneak through. Even if she tried, she could be chopped to bits with ease.
“Okay, okay! Seriously! Amethyst, you got me! You got me for real this time, we’re seriously late to the party now! Was this worth it?!” Denial stained her last breaths, and Peridot shielded her face as the massive blade of the chainsaw swopped down towards her.
And it all went dark.

My Review of THE SHINING
Ok, in case anyone has been on the edge of their seats here, my final verdict on The Shining is as follows:
This movie is trash. OK maybe that’s a little harsh. Maybe it was really cool at the time or something? But watching it now, I gotta say ugh.
As a book adaptation- The Shining is Trash
As a stand-alone movie- The Shining is mediocre at best, incomprehensible and lazy at worst. I mean, the main way the movie created a “spooky” mood is by Jack Nicholson making crazy faces and staring off into space. I guess there’s symbolism in it too? But it’s decontextualized to the point of meaninglessness. The pacing is totally off, and character development as well as plot progression are ignored in favor of frankly useless scenes that add little-to-nothing to the narrative.
But beyond that, the book is just better in every conceivable way? The book is even about 1000% more theatrical and visually impactful. I’m now going to compare the movie to the book, so I’ll put it behind the cut even though- I mean this stuff is really old guys.
100% READ THE BOOK. If you’re planning on reading the book, don’t read the “read more”
The major story of The Shining is the progression of the Overlook’s influence on Jack Torrence. As a character he is starting out as a real shitty dude who is on the path to redemption - he’s got anger issues, an alcohol problem, and a bad case of victim complex. But at the beginning of the story he is already well on his way to self improvement.
The big tragedy of this whole narrative is how the Overlook (using Jack’s own son’s power) twists Jack into a homicidal maniac bent on the destruction of the only thing he holds dear - his son. Irony.
So we’ve got some interesting things at play here - the Overlook’s dark history, which is what actually turns into into a basically Evil Building and its fight for power and self-preservation. We’ve got Jack - trying to come through for his family and losing the battle against his demons. We’ve got Wendy, hopeful and cautious, learning to stand up for herself and act on her own agency. We’ve got Danny’s psychic gift (The Shining) as it interacts with the Overlook, and as it gives Danny the chance to control his own destiny and ultimately save himself and his mother. Really cool stuff ok!
The movie fucks it all up. The history of the hotel is completely unexplored - also the hotel is really ugly for the most part. Danny’s “shining” is not really explained for what it is, and is just turned into a creepy kid trope. “Tony” is actually a manifestation of Danny’s power trying to warn and protect Danny and his family. So in other words, Tony is the Good Guy. Jack starts out creepy and then just suddenly gets creepier. Wendy is good. So that’s ok.
But they took the hedge animals and replaced them with the hedge maze. Which, it was sort of cool I guess? But the hedge animals were cooler. They were giant and moved ok. They left out the Presidential Suite. They turned the Dog Man into some kind of gay sex joke. They turned the Woman in 237 into some sexy... corpse lady??? WHY??? They left out the most interesting interactions between Dick Hallorman and Danny (and killed Dick for literally no reason...) And, finally, they left out the BOILER. The Boiler is arguably the most important part?? As Jack’s primary job is to keep an eye on the boiler so that the pressure doesn’t creep up and it doesn’t explode.
So what happens in the movie is that Dick just happens to catch Danny’s accidental psychic distress, shows up at the Overlook only to be immediately killed. Then Danny and Wendy manage to drive away while Jack is lost in the hedge maze and then freezes to death. Super anticlimactic.
What happens in the BOOK is that Danny PURPOSEFULLY sends a message to Dick, which makes Dick rush down to the Overlook. On the way there he’s attacked by the giant fucking hedge animals, and he has to fight them, ultimately setting them on fire with gasoline on the side of a mountain. When he arrives at the Overlook Danny and Wendy had been struggling with Jack for a while. Dick’s arrival is what distracts Jack from killing Wendy (who had, by that point, stabbed him in the back). Jack and Dick struggle for a while before Jack is distracted by Danny.
Jack chases Danny down, finally catching up to him and getting ready to kill him. At this point I’d say that Danny really comes into his power, and understands the meaning of a premonition he’d been having for a while. They were forgetting something. They were forgetting the boiler. He tells Jack/The Overlook this, sparing himself while Jack rushes down to the basement in a last ditch effort to release the pressure on the boiler.
Danny finds his mother and Dick, and tells them they need to leave. Jack is too late to fix the boiler. It explodes, killing him. The hotel burns down, the evil is vanquished once and for all. Danny, Wendy, and Dick escape and make it back into town.
They spend the summer in Florida, and Dick teaches Danny how to catch catfish and use his gift.
I MEAN. What a better ending! What a better story! I can’t believe a movie maker had an explosion right in the text and went like NAH. The bad guy will just freeze to death cuz he gets lost outside. Really?

The Expanse Dump 2x12 *Here be spoilers*
This has been sitting on my laptop, which I didn’t have access to, and I’m so tempted to go back and edit/add some things after thinking about them, but I’ll leave it be. I'm happy blonde scientist is dead, just seeing her in the recap annoys me. Watching Rick Grimes for years has turned me a little cold. #RickGrimesForLife. Errinwright open, okay. He's a piece of shit but he has nice eyes. Oh no no no no, don't get a son involved in this. It’s too late for that. Of course the son wears a blazer though. His name is probably Preston or Duncan. I bet he probably goes to York Prep or some futuristic equivalent and doesn’t care how much money he drops on bud. I hate him. Alex, however, I love. Why can’t we get an entire episode about Alex (probably because we only get 13 a season and there isn’t enough time to even squeeze a good ten minutes out of them). Our boys being hunters though, I can get behind that. Not that I think their hunt can accomplish a heck of a whole lot, but what can you do, boys will be boys. I love the history callbacks. Oooooooh. 'Don't talk down to me, plant guy.' Holden's got jokes. Holden’s behavior needs to break, man. Or we need more of his PTSD coming through because it’s honestly so hard to connect to him, and I’m so scared the audience is going to drift too far away from him to come back when his behavior shifts. And it’s not fair to his character. Jefferson and Jody. Okay, not as bad as I assumed, but still cringe worthy. Fuck. Errinwright is….confusing me. He’s in too deep to step away from the game completely, and I really don’t think anyone as ruthless as him can be 100% genuine about what they’re up to, but maybe this is a last ditch effort on his part? Even if it is though, I have a feeling that it’s more about appeasing to Avasarala’s humanity in an attempt to get her fully on his side rather than protecting his children. Or maybe the parental instincts are kick in. Let’s talk about Avasarala’s humanity for a second because they’re playing it up and I’m lapping it up like a freaking kitten. Avasarala is BAMF AF, but she’s also human. The juxtaposition of Avasarala !Madame Secretary and Avasarala!wife/mother/grandmother has been one of my favorite transformations to watch throughout the series. Especially because she slips into both roles so effortlessly. This though, dealing with Erringwrite’s betrayal, watching him ready himself for whatever punishment is in store for him, likely cuts through her Madame Secretary and hits Chrisjen square in the chest. Because as hard as she is, she’s also a person who has worked with this man for the past x amount of years and damn if this isn't twisting her insides a bit. Pair this with seeing her out of her element – on a ship heading into space, man, they’re all these little details just paint such a full picture of her. And even if I love her being this large, unapologetic, and imposing figure, it’s good to remember that she’s much more than just that. That shaky breath at launch, the need for distraction, the nausea, gimme more of this. And this is what cuts through to Bobbie isn’t it? She’s not just dealing with Avasarala Defender of Earth, she’s dealing with a woman who’s just trying to do her dang job, but it’s hard to see the person underneath, isn’t it? Last week we had Alex in his element and now we have Naomi. I live for this shit. Look at her assess the situation in seconds and take the reins. Just move, dude, you’re in the way and giving me more work to do. She breathes this shit, doesn’t she? Earned degrees in record time, can computer equations and conversions like she's having a conversation about the weather. Naomi Nagata oozes competence and she deserves to show that more on screen. Cotyar is quickly climbing the ranks of the ‘characters I love’ list. They keep throwing us these scarps about his past and they’re just delicious teases. What does it say about his relationship with Avasarala that he’s the reason her son got killed? Is that what pulled him away from being a ‘spy’? #Salty Bobbie is my favorite Bobbie. All I want is for Bobbie and Cotyar to reluctantly start respecting one another and then liking each other! Hmm...errinwright is going to give himself an early exit, isn't he? That doesn’t really seem in line with his - Oh yep, there it is. He is. Why does that make me....a little sad? It definitely doesn't have to do with Preston and Barbara, tell ya that much. Listen, if Holden doesn’t completely break down by the end of this episode – although, I would take the season finale (WHAT?!?), too, I’m gonna be thoroughly unimpressed. This dude is cracking under the weight of his experience on Eros and the knowledge that Eros wasn't the end. And we’re not seeing it. We’re only seeing the negative behavior stemming from it all. I mean, there’s Alex, of course there’s Alex, because Alex likes trying to fix people, but maybe doesn’t always pick the best moments to try to connect. I’m gonna need a lot more of Alex’s POV in the third season because he’s more than walking moral support, but I’ll let that thought go for now. That shift from ‘Jim’ to ‘Sir’ though. These people are more than shipmates, and Alex is trying to connect to Holden on such a personal level because he knows this isn’t Jim, but there’s so much static to cut through that all the messages get lost in translation and Holden continues to slip away because of it. He needs someone to grab him by the shoulders and pull him out of the murky waters but he’s flailing and pushing away every attempt to help him. And it’s honestly trying to get through to Holden or keeping them alive, so of course Alex professionals up, switches to Sir and continues on because that’s all that can be done for now. Huh, so, is Errinwright not taking himself out? Or is he taking himself and the Martian out? That would be a way to go! Oh, huh, wrong again. Man, I’m awful at predicting things. Errinwright is definitely keeping himself in the game then. I can relate to Bobbie in the fact that I too go straight for the food. I take it back, I take it all back, errinwright is a scum bag and I love it. Well, I hate it, but you gotta admire his tenacity. Also, I appreciate all the fuck bombs. Without a doubt, this entire sequence, with, and around Naomi, has been the most tragic thing the show has done. On one hand, of course Naomi would inspire the Belter to do the right thing. Of course she would. And she did it on her own, without the help or protection of Amos, because she’s a resourceful mother fucker, and I’m so thankful she’s allowed to have this agency without the presence of another character. And imagine what she feels when she looks at the monitors and sees all those Belters waiting to die. Especially considering she already feels conflicted about being forced to leave the Belt and turning her back on her own people once before. And now we have the additional information about her son. How he was taken from her, but she likely had to come to terms with his feelings of abandonment, and now she’s being asked to do it all again. Only this time, it means people die. God, how tired do you think she must feel? Just this stretched out feeling in her stomach, a wound that never had time to properly heal, and there it is again, raw and open in ways she’s not ready to feel again. Or maybe she has been feeling it, but now it’s pulled to the surface in ways she can’t quite hide from herself or from others. So, she does the one thing she needs to do for herself – help people, regardless of the cost, even if the cost is her own life. And I’m sure all the guilt she has been feeling from her past is mixed into the decision to offer her life up for a stranger, and ugh, I’m not ready to process that. I don’t want to say too much, but I’m in awe at how much Naomi cares, and how much weight she must be carrying from a past we’ve only begun receiving peeks into. Welp, that destroyed me. Utterly destroyed me. The husband (?) getting right to the door, but having to stay behind. I’m on the floor. There’s more to talk about, but man, how do you keep going after that end. I’m not even sure I have it in me to talk about Holden. Thank god Alex got through to him, and hopefully, hopefully, this is the turning point, but we’ll have to see what happens next episode.

CAR INSURANCE question?

""Rear ended by unlincensed driver, insurance refuses to pay?""
Hi all, I was hoping that I could get some guidance as to how I should proceed with this. Thank you in advance. The accident occurred 7 days ago in CA. I was driving home from work in the 4th lane of a 4 lane highway. There was a gap of approximately 4~5 cars in the 3rd lane, so I switched into that lane. By the time I finished the lane change, there was approximately 3~4 cars distance between me and the car behind me. I then drove for approximately a 100 yards, at which point the traffic suddenly slowed and I decelerated. The guy behind me, however, seems to have been looking elsewhere and rear ended me. However, before he collided, he managed to swerve his car and hit the corner of my rear bumper with the corner of his front bumper. We pulled over to the side of the road and exchanged information. It turns out that he does not have a driver's license (or any California/U.S. ID; he showed me a Mexican ID). He begged me not to call the police, admitted fault and said that he would settle it through his insurance (he is insured with a VERY shady place called Access General). I took pity on him, especially since it was very likely that he is an illegal immigrant, so I just took his information down and moved along. Fast forward a few days, and I find out that he has told his insurance that I cut in front of him and that he is not at fault. Since there are no witnesses or a police report, his insurance takes his side. Meanwhile, since I only have liability with Geico, they are saying that they can't help me. The damage to my car is between $4~5k, and that is not even taking into account devaluation of the car's value. I feel very cheated because I took pity on him and I am rewarded with a repair bill that nobody wants to deal with. I have called him multiple times and asked him to tell the truth, but he just ignores me. I am now very angry and want to do 2 things: 1. Get my car repaired. 2. Screw up his life. Hopefully get him deported (very strong liklihood of him being an illegal immigrant), or at the least bankrupt him. I took pity on him because he was in a time of need. All he had to do was tell the truth to his insurance, but he was afraid that his monthly bill would go up... so he lies and screws me instead. Do you have any recommendations for lawyers who would be willing to take on property damage lawsuits? What are my options?""

i see the merits of having universal health care, kind of, but it seems to me that the problem is a lot of middle class citizens who just decide nto to purchase health insurance on the premise that they cannot afford it , and instead opt to buy material goods that are solely for luxury. you cant go out and buy nice cars and houses and bypass health insurance and then cry it off that the government should give free care to everryone.......i definitely agree it should be cheaper for the poor etc. bottom line: ppl need to realize health is the most important thing in there life, and satisfy that need, before thinking about personal possesions (nice cars etc)""

Why do so few people understand the Affordable Care Act?
Fact: You will be required beginning January 1st to pay upwards of $200 per month or more per individual if you do not presently have health insurance. The average estimated cost to you as an individual has been estimated to be $328 per month. This applies to all citizens of the United States. If you do not pay for health insurance, you will be fined $95 for the first year and subsequent years this fine will go up by hundreds of dollars per year. For those of you who think this is some kind of left-wing fact - Read A Newspaper. To me, $200 to $300 or more is a car payment or to put it another way - 2 weeks of groceries. Even numbers for all the Di Roma's.
Asher:
2. If they have a problem, who is the first to know? Who is the last?he’ll complain to Lucas. he doesn’t like telling David anything (because most of his problems are his fault and David will give him shit for it)
4. What do people assume about them that IS true?that he’s a punk-ass troublemaker
6. What do they do with their hands when standing in one spot? (Put in pockets, twiddle thumbs, fiddle with shit?)he’ll play with his knife or his lighter usually. fun fact: he’s left-handed but holds his knife right-handed.
8. Do they have plans for the future? If so, are those plans likely to succeed?not at all. he just lives in an unending state of chaos.
10. When did they first have their heart broken?this isn’t quite in a romantic sense, but it definitely broke his heart to find out that his mother’s last words were calling him a mistake
12. Is there someone they hate who loves them? he’d lie and tell you he hates David, because David is always trying to keep his crazy ass in line. David def cares about him tho.
14. How do they tell stories? Are they captivating or boring? Do they tell it how it is, embellish their tales, or make shit up entirely? he’s quite fun to listen to, but depending on the story, he wavers between embellishing a tale beyond recognition, and just full-out lying. he likes to try and look cooler than he is, so most of his stories are 60-100% bullshit.
16. What’s one personal secret they haven’t told a soul?he often thinks his brothers would be better off if he just dropped dead, and has tried (and failed) to kill himself on several occasions.
18. What’s the one thing always going on in the back of their mind?he’s always trying to figure out who he can mess with or what he can destroy.
20. Is there anything they’re good at but hate doing?literally anything academic. he’s incredibly smart and would be top of his class if he put in effort, but he H A T E S school.
Felix:
2. If they have a problem, who is the first to know? Who is the last?depending on the problem, he goes to Lucas or David, cause David is way smarter, but Luke is more socially competent.
4. What do people assume about them that IS true?people who hang around him at school notice how meticulously he organizes and executes everything, and most of them have a hunch that he has OCD.
6. What do they do with their hands when standing in one spot? (Put in pockets, twiddle thumbs, fiddle with shit?)plays with a rubix cube. he always has one with him. it’s how he gets out his nervous energy.
8. Do they have plans for the future? If so, are those plans likely to succeed?he doesn’t know exactly what he wants to do yet, but ideally, it’d be something with robots. he’s likely to end up doing it, as he’s v smart and good with mechanics and electricity.
10. When did they first have their heart broken?he had a best friend in sixth grade who he lowkey had a crush on, but then the friend moved away and cut off all contact (this wasn’t on purpose, it was their parents being controlling, but Felix doesn’t know that). that crushed him.
12. Is there someone they hate who loves them?he doesn’t really hate anyone. he’s a nice dude who’s p easy to get along with.
14. How do they tell stories? Are they captivating or boring? Do they tell it how it is, embellish their tales, or make shit up entirely?he tends to be kind of boring. he’s a very state-the-facts type, and he get nervous and rushes through to avoid the spotlight being on him too long.
16. What’s one personal secret they haven’t told a soul?I don’t really think he has any deep dark secrets. he doesn’t have much to be deep and dark about.
18. What’s the one thing always going on in the back of their mind?he’s got a very strict agenda already planned by the time he gets up in the morning, so he tends to be going over that and mentally checking things off.
20. Is there anything they’re good at but hate doing?helping fix people’s phones, computers, etc. he’s got the knowledge and ability, but it really grates on him, esp since most of the problems could really easily be fixed if the owner of the device had done a two minute google search.
Lucas:
2. If they have a problem, who is the first to know? Who is the last?he usually goes to one of his good friends at school, some I haven’t introduced but also Annie, who is a few grades above him but in the same general social circles. he never tells Asher about problems because Ash always wants to enact violent revenge on whoever is bothering Luke.
4. What do people assume about them that IS true?he’s gay as fuuuuuuuuuck. well, technically he’s pan, but the assumption that he likes dick is very correct.
6. What do they do with their hands when standing in one spot? (Put in pockets, twiddle thumbs, fiddle with shit?)he’ll play with whatever jewelry he happens to be wearing. it’s very rare that he’s not wearing any.
8. Do they have plans for the future? If so, are those plans likely to succeed?nothing concrete, he just wants to be pretty and well-loved, which should work out seeing as he’s v good-looking and v nice.
10. When did they first have their heart broken?there was a new boy in seventh grade who was really into him for like a week and they were hitting it off and starting to get close. then the boy realized Luke wasn’t a girl and dropped him like a bird shit on a car window.
12. Is there someone they hate who loves them?no, the only people he hates are people who are hateful towards him.
14. How do they tell stories? Are they captivating or boring? Do they tell it how it is, embellish their tales, or make shit up entirely?he’s a pretty entertaining storyteller. he embellishes, but for emphasis, in a more figurative language sort of sense. he’s not a filthy liar like Ash.
16. What’s one personal secret they haven’t told a soul?he’s been suffering from bulimia since he was about 10
18. What’s the one thing always going on in the back of their mind?he’s pretty much perpetually got music playing in his head. it’s sort of like a mental iPod that caters to his mood.
20. Is there anything they’re good at but hate doing?he cannot stand being required to write, such as for class and shit. he’s a very gifted writer (aside from not always being the strongest speller), but anytime he’s given a shitty essay prompt it just makes his blood boil.
David:
2. If they have a problem, who is the first to know? Who is the last?he doesn’t tell anybody about his problems, except occasionally Felix. pretty much his whole family is the last to know about problems.
4. What do people assume about them that IS true?he’s antisocial as fuck. it’s not hard to tell. he makes more eye contact with books than humans.
6. What do they do with their hands when standing in one spot? (Put in pockets, twiddle thumbs, fiddle with shit?)read.
8. Do they have plans for the future? If so, are those plans likely to succeed?he wants to get a successful career, whatever will pay well, he doesn’t much care. oh yeah, he’s hella smart, if he applies to be pretty much anything but an athlete, he’ll be welcomed with open arms.
10. When did they first have their heart broken?he had a girlfriend a few years back who he really liked, but Asher didn’t like her so he staged an elaborate clusterfuck of misfortunes to make the girl hate David, and she eventually did.
12. Is there someone they hate who loves them?he and Asher are two sides of the same pseudo-hateful coin. they’d both say they hate the other, but lowkey care for them.
14. How do they tell stories? Are they captivating or boring? Do they tell it how it is, embellish their tales, or make shit up entirely?he’s pretty matter-of-fact, but he can tell a realistic story pretty entertainingly. think very dry humor.
16. What’s one personal secret they haven’t told a soul?he hates having to care for his brothers and if there was someone else he trusted to do it, he would’ve ditched them years ago.
18. What’s the one thing always going on in the back of their mind?he’s usually thinking about all the bullshit he has to do when he gets home, and how he wishes he could just hide and read.
20. Is there anything they’re good at but hate doing?math annoys him to no end but he could probably solve most equations faster than the AP Calculus teacher.
