For the identity crisis AU, do you think their fashion sense changes any?
Oooooh, good question.
Well first off. Hunk's definitely wouldn't. This is because Hunk and Keith have exactly the same fashion sense. Seriously. Look at their outfits side by side. Cropped vests/jackets? Fingerless gloves? Boots? Belts with pouches? Literally the exact same fashion sense.
Lance probably wouldn't change much, but I think he'd develop more of a sense for comfort while still trying not to look like a slob. There's some part of him that wants to start wearing shorts, but he is not listening to that part of him. That's the devil talking. He would not look good in shorts, and he knows this. Stop trying to make him wear shorts, part of him that's Pidge.
Pidge gets a cropped jacket. She sees one at the market and she can't resist. It's got deep pockets- what more could a girl want? The fingerless gloves come after. Also when was anyone going to tell her how convenient having a belt with pouches was? She resists the urge to buy a headband, but it's there. She's not going to say that's the devil talking. That would be a rude thing to say about her friend.
Keith buys a non-cropped jacket and stops wearing the fingerless gloves. God himself could not force him to stop wearing his dad's old belt, though. Everyone's watching him like a hawk to see if he'll cut off the mullet but he just stops cutting his hair instead, which turns out to grow weirdly fast. He gets Allura to teach him how to braid it, which is a very weird bonding experience for her. She'll take it?

There are so many things happening that these are my reactions in a nutshell:
Me: Coming back from a trip all relaxed and happy
University: Here are 5 assignments you have to start on immediately
Dani: Here is a 10k one shot of TLND!Mavid angst
This was a gift and I thank you for your service, the Mavid angst was great motivation (I miss Mavid so much you have no idea🥹)
I also have soooo many thoughts about it that I can't analyse but:
1) Either way, this isn’t David’s burden to carry. It’s his own. And he’ll find a way to work through it.
Max is wrong in my opinion, his insecurity about David? It's not his to deal with, he needs to share it with his partner. Not just the David leaving with the kids part but him loving the kids more than Max and their dynamic sifting. Is it David's job to solve it for Max? No. But he can understand his husband's feelings better, he can be more empathetic towards him, can reassure him if the need arises and can control his reactions (for example if he knew of Max's insecurities then he would have proposed going back to France in a better way, maybe give Max more context, be less adamant about it, reassure him that it is difficult to be without him etc).
2) The difference between someone willingly going to therapy and someone forced to go (TLND!Max/ IALS!Max) was so obvious here. How deep Max reached, how he understood where it was all coming from, how healthy he handled the conversation after his realisations. It's a beautiful thing really. I recently had a conversation with my mum (who doesn't believe in therapy but doesn't know I see a therapist) and I realized how wrong people can view therapy sometimes, or how worthless they consider it. My mum thinks that a therapist tells you you're always right and I tried to explain it to her but she didn't get it. Yet the difference is clear to me, I even see it in myself sometimes and I definitely saw it in the way you wrote Max here. So different from every other version. Not because he doesn't yell or say cruel things. But in the way he handles the aftermath. The way he expresses himself. Especially his conversation with Malec. It's so hard to hold your parents responsible for their misgivings when you love them and admire them so much. I can not see LBAF or even IALS Max admitting their fear or pain to David/Malec like that. Or recognising their insecurities in such a healthy way.
3) Doctor Hassan needs to be a canon event for Max I swear, just get Doctor Hassan in LBAF I'm begging you! Look how nicely Max told David about his fears here! Let him express himself please😭
4) “Yeah,” Lance nods eagerly. “Papa is always sad when you’re away.”
This line got me good and created a little scene in my head. I can totally see Arthur and Lance coming up with a plan to convince Max and David that they shouldn't go back to France without Max. Like they enter Mavid's bedroom all serious and having a whiteboard and presenting reasons why that was a silly plan. And Lance going all serious and saying:
Number one: Arthur needs daddy to sleep (like how Max checked Arthur's room for monsters in LDV)
Number two: Lance needs daddy to eat (this just came to me I don't know why, like what if Lance had trouble eating after the accident because he couldn't see what he was putting in his mouth and would only eat when Max told these elaborate stories that Lance got engrossed in and would eat without realising?)
Number three: Papa needs daddy to smile
And Mavid melting right then and there and resolved the fighting and everything. I love Mavid family shenanigans!
4) “That’s a tough one,” David says. “No amount of time you spend with me is ever enough.”
I just love obsessed David💛
5)Dad’s expression darkens. “Do you want me to fight that French piece of shit? Because I will.”
This was so funny to me, Alec always ready to take Max's side and fight David, I love to see it😂
6) “I can’t get divorced right now,” Max says quietly. “Lance just found a school he loves, and Arthur starts next year. It would be too much for them.”
The IALS trauma is real and it's never going away. Dani Mavid can never get divorced again it's against the laws of the universe please don't do this to us again😭 (Not me saying that while being absolutely obsessed with IALS)
See I said I wouldn't analyse and then I did, I can't help it.
And then of course we have your book.
Me: I don't have time to go to start exercising
Also me: spends an hour going through the wwdc tag and writing down all the information, collecting them posts like they're infinity gems‍♀️
You created a whole country and you sketched it too and it's simply brilliant! We feed on the crumbs you give us I hope you know that🩷
Also me: reading OFRI in one sitting and loving it.
The last chapter, oh it hit me so hard. I'm a little hoe for angst sue me🥰
I have a feeling the way Magnus is reacting and all the things he said to Alec during dinner... is the aftermath of Camille? I could be wrong and I hope I am but all those things about cheating and getting over the love of your life? It just fits somehow.
All in all, I'm super excited and happy for you following a direction that fulfils you, please be proud of yourself for doing something so brave🥰💛
Me when I wake up and find Vicky has sent me an essay
Tumblr media
I'm glad the Mavid angst helped(??) lmao. Angst is truly a good motivator, I agree.
I agree with you wholeheartedly about the first point. Max is definitely wrong. His therapist did tell him to talk to David about the insecurity - not just about David leaving but Max feeling he has been deprioritized. These kinds of feelings can be harmful if they are not addressed, so I do hope (Even though we didn't see it) Dr. H brings it up with Max, and Max talks to David about it. This theme is very relevant for LBAF - especially for Other Max because we know he kind of got left out in the aftermath of everything :(
I loooooved your analysis of Max and therapy. It's very true. Just the mere fact that he was struggling and realized he needed to talk to his therapist is a big deal - especially after we know what he was like in TLND about opening up to people. I can see IALS (older) Max eventually getting there, but definitely not LBAF Max rip.
Dr. H is unfortunately not a canon event 😔
I LOVED THIS AHHH. I can also see them doing a small skit or play to act out what will happen. Elyaas will direct it of course.
Obsessed David, my beloved 💙
Alec hating on David is a canon event
Divorce fics truly hit different, huh. Hard same.
I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying the WWCF crumbs. I am so excited for it and more than that, it's just so much to build a whole world of your fun (and so difficult looool). Thank you for the love 🧡
Welcome to the OFRI world! It's not super angsty, unfortunately. But we're currently in the angsty station. The train will leave soon, I promise!!
Sending you lots of love and energy to get through this semester ❤️

Now you've finished a game for Rapunzel, Cassandra and Eugene, will you make games for other characters? Like Varian, Lance, Arianna?
Hi, thanks for the ask!
Probably not though.
Dress up games take a surprising amount of time to make! This project in total took over 30 hours between drawing, programming, etc. You want to know how many people played it after completion? 4 people.
4 people for an average of 3 minutes each... On a project that took me 30 hours.
I am laughing and crying. It's very normal as an artist to spend 10 hours of a drawing that gets 5 likes. I am used to that sort of failure, but I wouldn't put myself through this big of a failure again xD
I'm glad I completed it just to say 'look, I can do the thing'.
But I'm not happy with the final result and a big part of that is I was getting hate while programming and that really took a toll on the motivation I had for this project. I basically forced my way through it out of spite and that lead to not a great result... Ironically, proving the hate right and that I am a failure at every project I set out to do.
Out of three people who played the demo, two expressed that the graphics were bad.
In a dress up game...
That should have been my sign to quit.
I didn't quit, and I hate myself for that.
So, no.
I can't do this again xD
I'm sorry! I have to show myself some mercy.
(The Tangled Dress Up Game if you haven't played it and want to).
(Also, I'm sorry for the ramble, I've edited this post a bunch of times to try and make it more uplifting but, the truth of the matter sometimes being an artist online is very a lonely and depressive experience and I don't think pretending otherwise is good. This project made me cry. A lot. And that's okay. Sometimes you feel like a failure. Sometimes a project makes your hate yourself. That's just the way it is sometimes.)

In loving memory
Chapter 3/?
(This is a story about the events of Clay's death from the perspective of Aaron)
"I live to serve my master, Monstrox"
It's usually pretty hard to scare me, I'm basically fearless
But right now seeing Clay come back to life and side with the bad guys? It terrifies me
That thing I said about it being cooler if clay could talk? Yeah I take that back
I like Clay being alive again but not when it has a being evil side effect
"Attack!"
Oh no he's running straight at me
His hit is so strong it sends me flying away
Before I can get up he's already knocking Axl back
"Alright mister 'Grey Knight' i think I've had enough of this!"
Lance no!
"You can't hit Clay with combo nexo power"
Luckily Macy jumped in to stop him
Who knows what will happen to Clay if we hit him with our nexo powers
He's a statue! We'll smash him into pits and he'll go into the cloud
Then we'll really lose him forever
We have to defeat these monsters without hurting Clay
"What do we do?"
I wish it was a simple answer Macy but all the questions I'm getting lately are harder than any exam I've ever had
We can't hit Clay but by not doing that we're risking the lives of everyone in the village
As a knight, the safety of the people is my main priority
But as Aaron, I don't want to lose Clay again
"We got no choice"
We have to get the people out of here
"Merlock get the fortress out of here we have to withdraw"
Sorry guys but we can't take the chance on losing Clay
If he wasn't a bad guy now, he'd be furious at me for this
He was always ready to risk his life if it meant he could save others and in a way he did
But I'm not about to risk anyone's life, especially his
.
.
.
.
"Well, we could look on the bright side"
"What bright side?"
Don't make this so hard Macy I'm already not convinced of what I'm saying
"Clay is alive again!"
"Alive yes, also an evil granite-covered destruction machine that we can't touch!"
Gods damn it guys how am I supposed to be positive when you're all acting like this
"Baby steps, Lance. baby steps"
Come on! Clay is back to life, that's a good thing! We just have to de-evilify him or something and he'll be back to normal
See even Merlock agrees he's talking about a spell to do that right now sounds like a really powerful spell
It's all going to be fine
So
Why am I still nervous?
I'm probably still shaken up from that fighting, nothing like a good battle to get my blood pumping
I just have to step away for a while till I calm down
Yeah I just need a little rest that's all, I'll go back when I'm feeling better
I'm fine
I'm fine
I'm
"Aaron?"
WHY DO THESE GUYS KEEPS SNEAKING UP ON ME I'M GONNA HAVE A HEART ATTACK
"Um, yeah?"
"Are you ok?"
"Of course! Why do you ask?"
"Well, how do I put it, you seem more... jumpy? Than usual?"
"What does that even mean?"
"It means you don't look ok, Aaron. Are you sure you're fine?"
"Yeah! Why wouldn't I be?"
"Um, hello? Clay?"
"Oh yeah! Clay! Man, how could I forget about that? Thanks for reminding me, Macy!"
":|"
":)"
Why is she staring at me? I don't like this
"Aaron I don't know what you're going through but I know this whole thing is definitely impacting you just as much as me"
"Nope you're wrong I am totally A-OK"
"You can talk to me if you're feeling down you know?"
"Macy, I told you, I'm fine, f, i, n, e, fine"
"But-"
"Sorry, I really need some rest rn, battling those monsters is tough even without Clay there trying to stop us"
"..."
"Well! Nice talkin' to ya bye!"
Since when did conversations drain so much energy
.
.
.
.
I rest my back against the door as soon as it closes
I don't have the power to stand anymore, slowly sliding down till I'm just sitting on the ground
What's wrong with me? I'm supposed to be the happy one, this is exactly the situation where I come in and make everyone feel better
So why can't I do it?
Why can't I keep it together
I'm not just another knight I'm the leader now how can I cheer up the others if I can't cheer myself up?
Oh no, here comes the tears
Why now
Why
Why why why
Why is this happening
I just want everything to go back to normal
I want Clay to stop being evil I want to go back to being a regular knight I want everyone to stop being sad and miserable
Is that too much to ask for?
I cover my face with my hands trying to block the sound of my crying
I don't want anyone to hear me cry
What would Clay think of me right now? Crying cause I can't handle the responsibility
I can imagine the disappointment on his face, the thought of it makes me want to cry even more
I'm sorry Clay I'm really sorry, I know you trust me but I'm not strong enough
I'm not the brave and fearless knight you think I am I'm just a loser who can't do anything
You shouldn't have trusted me on this
I just want you back
Suddenly I feel a strong force shake the fortress
Break time is over I have to go make sure the fortress is safe
I wipe my tears and take a few breathes I can't go out looking like I just cried even if I did
I'm still trying to convince Macy that I'm fine
.
.
.
.
Whatever higher beings are in charge of this world, they must really hate me
Bet they're sitting with bags of popcorn like "oh boy can't wait for even more bad stuff to happen to that Aaron guy" "yeah I really wanna see him holding back evil Clay from trying to destroy the digital wizard"
As if enough stuff didn't happen already apparently I can't even sit down for two minutes anymore because even worse stuff keeps happening
Like that Clay thing!
Even with the four of us together we still can't beat him that's how hopeless we are
We have to hold him back until Merlock finds a spell and he sure is taking his sweet time with that spell
"I will destroy you all!"
Yeah yeah heard that before try being original won't you?
I've been through enough stuff this month alone the least of my concerns is wheatear you're gonna "destroy me" or not
Merlock is gonna find a spell and you're gonna be fine got it? So shut up and slow down a little
"Here goes!"
A strong wave of nexo power comes crashing through the door it felt like an explosion
Is this what the monsters feel when we use nexo powers on them? Cause it really hurts it must suck to be a monster
I get up and make sure everyone is ok
We're all beat up pretty badly but we'll live
"Where's Clay?"
Clay!
That explosion, it was a spell for him but where's he?
Is he back to normal now? What happened? He's not dead again is he?
I stare out the open garage door trying to find him
It looks like that explosion knocked him all the way to the other side of the kingdom
The others get up and stand next to me
We're all looking outside hoping to see Clay but no one sees him he's too far away
What if we lost him again? What if that spell just destroyed him? What will I do now?
All this thinking makes me tear up and the others are looking at me
But I don't have the energy to keep hiding it anymore
I fall to the ground and start sobbing
I'm tired, I'm just so tired
Tired of all those monsters tired of that stupid cloud tired of whatever is going on with Clay right now
My sobs become full on cries
I feel someone wrap their arms around me, it's Axl he's also crying
No no no I'm supposed to make them feel better not worse
Lance joins in on the hug crying as well
Hamletta's here too trying to comfort him
Macy joins the hug too we're all crying on the floor now and it's my fault
If I held it together until I was alone none of them would be crying right now
I can never let them see me like this again

--
You clutched your tea cup, fingers pressing into the glass, as if you wanted to break it from the sheer pressure. Your mind was reeling from the surprise visit from your mother. She was going on about the same thing; your weight.
Eyes slid to the clock, looking at the time. You were waiting for Shiro to get home from the base, but her words were still replaying in your head, making you re-think everything.
“You seem to have gained some weight (Y/N), are you sure you’re healthy?”
Her words cut you deeply, you didn’t want to admit it to the open, but you couldn’t stop thinking about them and not to mention all of the other shit she talked about after that comment. The front door creaking open brought you out of your bitter thoughts as Shiro’s voice broke the silent air.
“(Y/N), sweetheart, where are you?” A half smile tugged at your lips at his as his voice filtered through the silence. His voice was calm and soothing, it brought you a sense of comfort.
“I’m in here Shiro.” You were glad your voice didn’t give away what you were feeling at the moment, but you knew the moment he saw you he’d start questioning you, he always knew when things were going wrong with you.
“You wouldn’t believe what happened today, lance was....(Y/N), what’s wrong?” His voice dropped when he walked in the kitchen.
His hands were on you, rubbing your shoulders and going down your arms, pressing a kiss to the side of your head. “You have that look again (Y/N), tell me what’s wrong sweetheart.” The scraping of the kitchen chair brought you to look over at him, brows scrunched up as he sat down next to you.
“My mom came over and...and.” You really couldn’t get the words out to him, your throat closing up as you tried to get them out. Shiro’s hand rubbed your soft thigh, giving you sweet words of encouragement. “She said some things about my weight...now...I’m not sure about myself anymore.” You bit your lip, chewing on it, your anxiety getting the best of you.
You jumped as you felt warm hands on your protruding thighs. Looking down, Shiro was there, on his knees in front of you with a frown, his hands continuing to rub your softness. “I love you,” He started, hands sliding up to your soft waist as he made eye contact. “I love that you’re brave, that time you saved us from those Galra soldiers, I still remember that right hook you gave.” You both laughed at the memory.
“I love how you cheer everyone up around you, the lengths you go just to get a smile. Like the time Pidge broke her computer and you made all of those computer jokes until she cracked a smile. “
A smile tugged at your lips. “Yeah, I spent hours looking for those corny jokes.”
He only laughed as his hands continued to travel up and around, setting themselves on your stomach. “I love all those wonderful traits and quirks of yours (Y/N), they’re all the things that make you, you.”  Leaning up, hands still on your stomach, he locked lips with you, giving you a quick chaste kiss before leaning back.
“You’re more than your weight (Y/N), you’re so much more than that, but if that’s what you’re worried about, please don’t be.” Shiro started to pepper kisses all around your soft middle, the sensation causing you to giggle a bit. “You’re perfect just like this, no matter what anyone says, including your mother, please remember your weight doesn’t define you and I love you...all of you (Y/N).”
Shiro hugged your middle, hands rubbing up and down your back to soothe you and make you relax. “How’s a movie and some cuddles sound?” He softly asked this while nuzzling your soft chest. Running your fingers through his hair you grinned down at him. “That’s sounds great Shiro...thank you.”

Did you decide to stop writing to fully commit to your mad art skills? Joke aside, I'm a bit sad to read that you don't want to write fics anymore because you're so talented. But I totally respect your decision, and I want you to know that whatever you choose to do I 100% support you, I'll never stop reading what you post (whether it's your thoughts on games/books you read, or anything which isn't a fic) because I just love reading you, no matter what you write about it's always a pleasure 💕
Thank you anon 🤧🤧 such nice words 💕
Truth is, I’ve never liked writing. I used to be pretty good at it at school (in italian of course) but I’ve always found the process very tedious, math is my jam.
So I was surprised with myself when I started writing early this year, I think that I did it because I was very inspired by the game and at the same time found BV’s writing frustrating, so I wanted to rewrite the scenes the way they looked in my head. Also, I found interesting the idea of writing in english.
Right now I feel pretty unmotivated, it’s not like I don’t have ideas, I always do, it’s maybe the fact that I am very disappointed with canon.
The guys not coming back to MCL just depressed me all over again, then we haven’t had any real Lance content since July so Eldarya is also a no, and ML hasn’t inspired me yet.
Add to this that the only other fandom I write for is Star Wars (only on AO3, I’ve never published anything about it on tumblr) and the last movie basically killed me. I was thinking on getting back writing for Reylo just out of spite but I don’t have the strength at the moment.
And then, I think another thing that has been kinda torturing me, is that I figured out that I really don’t like writing smut. I like writing about flirting, the passion, the banter… but the banging part… no. I like reading it, but not writing it (and when I do it, the final result always feels very bad to me).
So, in the end, nothing is set in stone, I may get back to writing, it may just be SW, or maybe Love Life will inspire me, who knows… it probably won’t be smut tho.
Or maybe I will just focus completely on my art 😃😎

after that last anon you answered, i'm now curious about how you pace your stories! i'm usually a little too excited for all the things i want to happen, so i do a lot of skipping ahead and getting to the meat for a fast-paced story. but!! your space cowboy stories are SO GOOD and i know they wouldn't be the same with my kind of pacing, so yeah. i'm curious ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hi there, honey! :D *hugs*
Okay, this was another question I had to think about for a long time … I often conflate pacing and overall story structure, so fair warning, that is probably gonna happen here.
I’m going to start off with a fairly obvious fact, which is that different stories require different pacing, and that the rules in fanfiction, I find, are a little looser.
This is because we rarely need much exposition in fanfiction, since we’re assuming our readers already know these characters and these settings, so we don’t have to worry too much about explanations or descriptions. That being said, there is always some world-building (particularly in AUs), and that can be pretty challenging to insert without disrupting the … narrative flow, I guess?
There’s a sort of … ebb and flow, overall, to a story. There are quiet times and loud times. There’s talking and then there’s action. Now, the other reason why I say fanfiction is different is because I am perfectly happy reading a story that is literally just characters being domestic, or having emotional conversations (communication, I love it so much) or … every other fun trope in fandom.
I think the way I’ve always approached pacing is to fret about it in the planning stage. Once I start writing, I’m very character-focused, so my main concern is keeping everybody as in-character and “realistic” as possible, since I usually already have an outline with all the plot/emotional beats in place (written or up in my head). But pacing does come up at times even when I have most of the story planned, and I think the biggest indicator of a pacing issue is when you get stuck while writing.
Getting stuck isn’t always about that narrative flow — there are hundreds of reasons why I get writer’s block — but I have found that sometimes it’s because I’m writing something that’s disrupting the flow. Sometimes it’s a dialogue scene that runs too long, and characters are saying/explaining things that I could just show or summarize in a descriptive paragraph. Sometimes it’s a scene that’s totally redundant, period, and I scrap it entirely.
In other words, skipping ahead and getting to the meat is totally valid on occasion ;D
As for the space cowboys … *throws hands in the air* … Here’s a look as to how that mess got organized into a semi-coherent flow of words — massive, likely incoherent ramble under the cut!
Tumblr media
First off: a one-story example — The Six-Gun Sound.
That story has the most basic pacing ever. Action scene at the start, exposition/dialogue scene right after that sets up the main plot/motive for the characters, followed by a steady build that goes right into that heist. The heist then slowly builds until BAM. Everything goes wrong, there are literal explosions, and then a climax of both the main plot-line and the emotional plot-line. (There is pacing set for both of those when I plan, usually. The plot informs the emotional beats and vice versa, depending on which is more important at any given time.)
In shorter words: action, calm, build-up to more action, big action, calm, and then the resolution. That kind of “ebb and flow” is basically how most stories work, I believe. If you have that going on in your tales, then I think you’re golden :D
I totally break those rules in many of my other tales, but, yeah. There it is ;)
Now, secondly: the entire Trouble’s Making Everything All Right series.
That is just … well, a giant mess, but it’s one that I find works for me? I might be confusing pacing with other parts of narrative structure, but overall, there’s a certain ebb and flow that leads to the first huge climax (which I believe is Short Change Heroes). Um, I’m going to try and explain and hope that it helps you?
Trouble Coming is essentially my expositional story (though I initially had no idea how long this series would go). If, for example, in your own writing you feel like “skipping” all that establishing information, well, I’m gonna be horrible and give you that old cliché — show and don’t tell (much).
I still had to explain some stuff in that story, but having no Team Voltron, having Lance and Keith sitting around that poker table, cheating at cards (Keith), and flirting as a distraction (Lance), while being tough as nails, pretty much establishes that something not good has happened. Especially as Keith worries about making ends meet.
Following that, the attack afterwards, which they treat as business as usual, barely blinking at the deaths they cause … Again, I don’t think I needed to tell you guys that they had been through some bad stuff. And they were continuing to go through some bad stuff. I don’t actually explain much until more than halfway through the story, when they’re back at the inn and there’s a moment of calm. (Again, I’m not great at pacing, but I tried to put a bit of ebb and flow in this series as a whole.) (Action at the beginning, sort of, and then calm.)
Six Gun Sound is pretty much all action, and it retroactively explains partially how Lance and Keith came to be the way they are (and how they got together ;D), and since you’ve already seen how jaded and broken they are in Trouble Coming, I like to think it makes for a sharper, harsher contrast to see them more … good just as they cross that line into becoming The Two McClains. (Lots of action/emotional conflict.)
Following that action-filled, emotional story, we’ve got Broken Bone World, which jumps forward to the more jaded Lance and Keith, but this time, we get to see them relax and perfectly in love with each other — and generally more settled in their new mercenary existence. (More calm.)
And then, Shuffling Madness, back in the past, is lots of action, lots of suffering — I hoped that seeing them as Paladins after three stories as space cowboys would be quite impactful in hindsight? Basically, seeing them being so optimistic about their chances makes you wince on their behalf because you, as the reader, already know how they end up. (Plenty of action/emotional turmoil.)
This is the point where the series is actually building towards the main climax. I had hinted at Keegin Dras going all the way back to the first story. But Paradise City is where the tension, um, kicks up, I guess (some of y’all may remember that cliffhanger? Er, sorry?) (Build-up to lots of action with a sudden stop and cliffhanger.)
I really like contrast, so this is my own personal opinion/writing style, but, um, yeah, there you go.
Edit: Damn, I totally forgot to mention Heaven Above You, which was probably one of my favourites to write — it prolongs the tension between Paradise City and Short Change Heroes, but also, while it isn’t too heavy on the action, I think of it is as still tension building because it shows that defining moment when Lance chose to take a life that wasn’t a direct threat to him. It’s an almost purely expositional story, but it sets up the emotional conflict of Short Change Heroes, while Paradise City sets up the main plot conflict?(Bit of action, mostly calm, but lots of emotional turmoil.)
Short Change Heroes is a damn disaster, but it’s a disaster I kinda really loved writing. There are just so many conversations. It really shouldn’t have had that many dialogue scenes. Holy crap, that war council is a story in and of itself, and I am definitely not Tolkien, holy crap, no.
But, um, here’s where I contradict myself and say — I didn’t care about pacing, I just wanted to get these people (Team Voltron + The Two McClains) actually talking because communication rocks, and they absolutely would’ve wanted to talk a ton after a year apart.
I did try and chop up some of the dialogue/exposition with a few action-type scenes (the interrogation scene, then that gang ambush, and that brief attack during the war council), but those scenes were also key to the plot-line and the emotional stuff. I was focused on pacing when I chose where to place those scenes, so that things would feel balanced and move forward smoothly.
So, if in your own writing, you feel like you want to skip ahead, but you also feel like whatever information you need to impart (or interaction these characters need to have) is important to the plot/pacing (e.g. you need a quiet moment before battle or you need to show off an action scene before you can get to that juicy emotional resolution), find a way to make it fun for you to tell! I am a sucker for gritty honesty or sappy confessions or no-holds-barred arguing, so that’s how I handle some exposition. I love creating angsty situations instead of just explaining that someone’s had a bad time.
Basically, in summation: I try to keep action and moments of stillness somewhat balanced.
— A huge burst of action demands a longer moment of quiet/reflection, or a longer emotional conversation and/or resolution afterwards.
— A massive emotional fight/discussion demands that the characters either have time apart or some kind of quiet/temporary peace after (even if the fight isn’t resolved right away or the discussion hasn’t unloaded everything in their heads).
This is my preferred rhythm to story-telling, both on small (one story) or large (series) scales. This way a story doesn’t feel too stilted, or overly long (too many quiet moments?), or like it isn’t letting up/allowing the reader to settle (too many action moments?) — an even rhythm/flow carries the reader along easily (hopefully).
I break these rules of mine often, but this is a general rant ;D
I really, really hope this has helped you, that this hasn’t bored you to death, and that I haven’t been totally nonsensical. I am honestly not even sure I answered this question at this point — it kinda just turned into a freakishly long ramble. *sweats* Sorry!
You are very kind to ask, and I am so grateful to you! Best of luck with the writing, dear! *all the hugs*

I'm sorry to bother but would you mind explaining why the Plance angst in the Sven's universe? Also, I actually have a Voltron long distance squad AU written in one of my notebooks!!!! I feel so happy someone else have a similar idea because I thought no one would find it as interesting as I do omg!!! (You should totes write a fic). Also I have two dear AUs I created and I just want to share them: Plance Pokémon AU and OTGW AU. Please have a beautiful, beautiful day!!!!’u`
Ah! Thank you for dropping this in!
I’m glad I’m not the only one with a Long Distance AU idea too! Honestly, the idea seems bland at first thought but when you actually look into the chaos of having friends all over the place, it can be hella fun!
Also, if you ever want to message me off anon with those two AU ideas of your own, I’d love to learn more about them! :D
So, the Plangst is a bit of a background plot in Sven’s Verse but has enough plot to it that it could totally run as its own story. So, here’s how that goes:
Sven’s Verse AU (Plangst Story)
Pidge
A member of the Guns of Gamora but not a soldier in it (at first)
Basically in charge of creating weapons and ships for the soldiers
When Slav isn’t out on duty, he works alongside her
(I know in GoLion Pidge is a guy named Hiroshi but I don’t feel like working with that. Hiroshi really bugs me)
Even though she isn’t a soldier, she does train in combat and has learned to use her small stature to take down big guys like Sven
She is known to be snappy and have a tad bit of a temper when bothered but it’s clear she’s on the rebel’s side through and through
It’s after she meets Lance that her connection to the rebels grows stronger.
Lance
Lance is also a member of the Guns of Gamora but is a soldier
Known for being one of the most deadly snipers
He’s a bit full of himself because of this and will gladly brag about his kill streak
He’s also known to be a tad bit of a jerk and rather entitled
He thinks for being a rebel hero he deserves a lot more than he has right now (think Voltron Lance’s desire for glory cracked up to 11 with an expectation that it’ll happen)
(He’s pretty much Isamu from GoLion and goes by said name (but Imma keep calling him Lance to keep things simple). Unlike Pidge’s other version, I like Lance’s so I’ll work with it)
He has a tendency to wander around any base he’s stationed at so you’ll either find him right away or it’ll take you a million years to find him unless you com him
Things go crazy after he meets Pidge.
[More Under the Cut]
Their Meeting
They first meet when Pidge is training in one of the many training rooms
Lance didn’t recognize her as a soldier so when he asked her if she was one and confirmed that she wasn’t, he asked what the hell she was doing there
“What? You think that I can’t fight just because I’m not a soldier?”
“I didn’t say that! I just said that maybe you shouldn’t use the training rooms that us soldiers use.”
“How the hell am I supposed to train then?”
“You’re not supposed to!”
“So if we get attacked right now I’m not supposed to know how to defend myself?!”
“Like you could defend yourself anyway! You’re so tiny!”
She made Lance eat his words
Remember how I said Pidge could take down guys as big as Sven?
Well, Lance isn’t as big as him so knocking the wind out of him was easy as easy could be
Let’s just say that was a wake-up call for Lance
Pidge leaves him soon after since she was wrapping up her training anyways
Now Lance wants to know who she is and how he can meet her again
The Relationship Grows
Not long after their first meeting, Pidge finds herself running into Lance way more than she likes
Turns out, Lance got the information about who she was and what she does from one of his superior officers
She’s the first girl who wouldn’t deal with his shit so he’s definitely intrigued by her
Things are still rather snappy between them as Pidge accuses him of stalking her, which isn’t exactly a lie but there’s no way he’ll admit it
Eventually, she gets used to him stopping by her lab in his free time and just deals with his presence
He actually kinda becomes good company after she knocks him down a few pegs
He thought that the soldiers, the ones going out to fight against the Alteans were the only heroes in this battle but after seeing all the things Pidge makes for the rebellion, he can see everyone there is a hero of some kind
Turns out when he’s not being a smug jerk he can actually be a really nice guy
I’m talking being that guy who puts a blanket over Pidge’s shoulders after she passes out from working so hard
He’s also pretty sure he’s fallen for her because she’s one hell of a ride for him
She makes him question a lot of things he didn’t before
The nickname “Shorty” he gave her to mock her also becomes a bit more endearing
Of course, Pidge’s feelings are growing for the more sensitive and caring Lance as they learn more about each other
It was after a particularly bad brush with the Alteans that left Lance in the medbay that ended bringing the two together romantically
Even though they are a couple now, they’re routine doesn’t change much
There might be a few kisses and hugs and sweet words tossed into it now though
The two are rather happy for a good amount of time... then shit hits the fan
The Incident
It was supposed to be a simple mission
A strike against a small Altean base, nothing big at all
But when the team returned extremely battered and down a member, everyone knew the strike was a mistake
Most of all Pidge as it was Lance who was missing
According to the members of the mission, Lance cleared their exit but when they were able to try to get him, the Alteans captured him and took him who knows where
Pidge was quick to lash out and had to be held back Slav
She demanded that they send out a team to go rescue him but she knew they wouldn’t
It would be too risky
Pidge refused to work for a good while after Lance’s disappearance
Sadly, his return didn’t make anything better
Altean Slave Lance
During a small scouting mission consisting of Sven, Akira (Keith), and Slav, Lance is found
Much to their disappointment but not to their surprise, Lance has a hoktril attached to his head
He has no free will and is basically a slave with no hope of rescue
...That is until Slav ignores Sven’s orders to leave him alone and captures the slave
Slav explains that he thinks this is one of the few realities where bringing back Lance will benefit the Guns as they’ll learn more about Altean technology
So, the team brings him back
When Pidge sees him, she’s overjoyed at first and hugs him
When he doesn’t hug back, she knows something is wrong
Sven, Slav, and Akira are scolded for bringing back an Altean Slave while Pidge questions if she’ll ever really be getting Lance back
She overhears Slav’s reasoning for bringing him back and decides to do two things
She’s going to not only learn how the hoktril works but she’s also going to learn how to free someone from it
But in order to do that, she’s going to have to see Altean tech first hand
She needs to become an active soldier
Soldier Pidge
Despite Slav’s protests, Pidge starts heading out on missions
Her first missions are rather rocky but they only fuel her desire to take down the Alteans for what they’ve done
Lance remains confined to Pidge’s Lab and every time she returns from a mission, she’s back to trying to figure out how to free him
It really starts to eat away at her until she becomes a cold, determined shell of who she used to be
It pains the others to see her like this but they know there’s nothing they can do
So, that’s the mission she’ll always be on until she learns how to free Lance
There is no happy ending to this yet, just an ongoing struggle
So, that’s basically what’s going on with the Plance angst in Sven’s Verse! Thanks for asking!

If you’ll only hold me tight…. Once upon a time I was falling in love, now I’m only falling apart. Once upon a time there was light in my life, now there’s only love in the dark. There’s nothing I can do- a total eclipse of the heart. August 20th, 2017 According to the watch Pidge had, that was date. And according to her research, there would be an eclipse on Earth the next day. The first total eclipse in 99 years. If things went well, they could portal close enough to see it from the castle. And after dinner, Lance was trying to psyche himself up to finally tell Keith how he felt. He was tired of holding in the emotions especially when Keith gave him such reassuring, soft smiles anytime Lance needed them most. Keith was a person who always had a scowl on his face if it was completely devoid of emotion. He was a person who only cared for people at a distance. He didn't hug, he didn't vocalize it, he didn't show it. But with Lance, he was different. Maybe it was in his head, maybe it was stupid, naïve optimism. But Keith had given him gentle smiles, offered comfort in the way he knew how, and protected him each time they had to fight. He was Keith's right hand man, and his Korean crush didn't seem to mind. He listened to Lance. He made sure Lance knew he was needed. Ever since that talk in his room, Keith had been so different with Lance. Then Lance recognized the butterflies in his stomach when he heard Shiro telling Allura that Keith had offered to stay behind, returning the Black Lion, to help Coran. Lance knew Keith wasn't close to Coran. Keith had done that for him. So he wouldn't be the extra paladin. So he would still be needed. Keith lived for battle and he had offered to stay behind. Ever since then, Lance only felt these emotions growing. With each smile that seemed especially for him, with each encouraging comment during training and after, with each chuckle and eye roll after Lance teased him lightly if only to keep up the familiar banter. He didn't want to feed more hope into these feelings if Keith didn't actually mean anything in those gestures. He had to at least let Keith know what he was beginning to feel before it caused problems instead of flowery, floaty feelings. He kept pacing back and forth in the hallway trying to gather the courage to knock on his door. He fought fleets of Galra warriors, he fought mutated monsters sent after them, he defended the freaking universe. He could do this. He couldn't do this. He was a coward when it came to cute boys with galaxies for eyes and smiles that could melt icebergs as quickly as their glares could. He shook his head, feeling a mixture of relief and disappointment, and he started walking away. Then he heard that familiar low voice with that pleasing rasp. “Lance?” He froze and turned to face Keith. His hair was sticking to his forehead, his shirt different shades of black where the sweat soaked through it, and he was sporting a few new bruises. He had been training. “You okay?” Lance cleared his throat. There were too many ways to answer that question. “Hey. Seriously, what wrong?” His dark eyebrows were furrowed, his eyes worried and a bright, beautiful violet color, surrounded by eyelashes that curled so elegantly it was unfair. It was now or never. “Could we talk?” Keith's eyebrows twitched lower, and he nodded, gesturing to his room. “Um, actually, can we take a walk?” Keith stopped and stared at him before nodding again and turning, waiting for him to lead the way. Lance started walking and swallowed the nausea building in his throat. He wasn't sure how to start. He kept opening his mouth to talk only to completely hate the way whatever he was going to say would sound. Once they'd reached the end of the hallway and turned, Keith spoke. “You're freaking me out, Lance. Are you okay?” “Don't freak out,” he said, his voice shaking. “It's nothing serious. And I don't think it's bad, I guess that up for interpretation, really. I just dunno where to start or how to say it without sounding stupid, you know and I-” “Lance, you're not stupid,” he interrupted with that gentle voice. Lance called it his serious voice. Keith had different tones for anything he said and Lance had managed to name each of them. His angry voice, his frustrated voice, his complacent voice, his tired voice, his sad voice-which was the same low voice but with a specific expression- and this one: his serious voice. A voice he'd started using with Lance more and more in place of angry or frustrated. It was his favorite. “Lance, what is it?” Lance blinked and brought himself back to reality, heaving a sigh. “I'm sorry, I'm probably making this out to be way more than it is. Just give me a moment, yeah?” Keith frowned and nodded. They walked around, feet almost automatically walking toward the training room and past it to the hangar. Keith stayed quiet, waiting on Lance. “Um. So first, I want to say thank you. Thank you for helping me especially when I feel like I'm not good enough or I don't belong. I never really thought you'd be someone to help me with that, but… I mean I never thought I'd be flying a giant metal lion either.” He chuckled nervously and Keith's lip quirked up slightly in that small, sweet smile that gave Lance butterflies. He cleared his throat and tried to use that smile to ground himself. “I really appreciate all of it.” They came to a stop in front of the lions. Lance looked at Blue sadly before turning to Red. Keith was looking at her too, but there wasn't really any specific emotion in his face. Lance gulped and licked his lips. “Look, we're going to be out here for who knows how long. And we're a team. So there shouldn't be secrets right? I… I have to tell you something. I really don't know how you'll take it, okay? And I'm not expecting anything specific, I just have to tell you. I don't want you to be angry, but… I guess I understand if you do get angry so-” “Lance,” Keith said with a hand on his arm. “Breathe,” he encouraged. “What is it?” He looked at him with concern, and Lance could feel the soft humming purr of his new lion in his head. He wondered if Keith could still hear her too. He couldn't hear Blue. But Red seemed to be gently encouraging him. The purr was comforting, and Lance was filled with a distant calming emotion. It would be okay. Lance took a breath, looked Keith in the eyes, and clenched his jaw. Then, in a single breath, he said, “I think I like you.” There was no explosion. No burst of realization. No gasp, no look of disgust or joy. The only change on Keith's face was a slight eyebrow raise, and the subtle parting of his lips. He never broke the eye contact. “You're… not joking.” Lance pressed his lips together and shook his head slowly. “When you say ‘like,’ you mean….” “A crush. Feelings. Romantic ones. Yeah,” he answered not really sure how to respond to this… unresponsive reaction. “Oh.” He kept staring at Lance and the blush that spread across his cheeks spread so slowly, Lance almost didn't notice. “That's… new. I'm not usually… um, likable I guess.” He finally looked away and Lance realized he could breathe. “Um… since when? Why?” He seemed so genuinely confused. Like the idea that Lance liked him wasn't bizarre, but the fact that someone could was. Lance felt a little less horrible and shrugged. “I can't say for sure when. But… because of how much you care. Even if not in the most obvious ways, you just… you managed to make me feel like I mattered. And you're inspiring. You're dedicated and determined and you don't just brush me off you know? Keith… I really admire you. From the way you're ridiculously fearless and the way you stepped up to lead Voltron. It's just…. I don't know I just started getting all of these giddy feelings when I'd see you or when you'd smile at me the way do. I feel like I think clearer around you, I'm… better around you. But I'm also a mess.” He chuckled and shrugged. “I just really like being around you and the fact that I can talk to you without feeling stupid because you make sure I don't… feel that way.” He looked up and saw Keith's red face and wide eyes looking at him. “O-oh. Oh. Oh.” Lance gulped. Red, I might have broken him. He heard the low rumble of laughter in his head. Keith finally took a breath and managed to stammer out actual sentences. “I've kind of never been good with people. Relationships and stuff… it's weird. Friendships, I mean. I just… I don't really get the dynamic, you know, I'm used to being alone.” Lance felt his heart sink, but he smiled and nudged him gently. “Hey. I told you; it's cool, I don't expect anything, I just wanted to tell you. Don't think I'm trying to-” “No, no, no,” Keith interrupted, waving his hands frantically. “I'm not saying…. I just mean…. I don't think I'm the best person to get a crush on. But… this idea is… it feels, um, right? It just… makes sense.” Lance tilted his head in confusion and Keith gulped. “I mean… maybe I can learn. And maybe….” Lance took a sudden breath, realizing what he meant. There was a chance? A possibility? Did Keith feel the same way? Could he? Keith groaned and ran a hand through his hair. “Just give me a tick to string my thoughts into coherent sentences, okay? Here, come on.” He sat by Red's paw and started chewing his nails. Lance sat in front of him awkwardly. “None of what I wanted to say came out right,” he breathed. He cleared his throat and sighed. “I'm still learning to take social cues and… I'm still learning to trust friends, and getting used to what it's like to have friends. So it's surprising to me that someone like you would like me.” Lance frowned and scooted away slightly. “Someone like me?” he repeated. Keith nodded. “Lance, you're way more level-headed than me. You're in touch with your emotions. You wear your heart on your sleeve and I… well I build walls around mine. I-I should be the one admiring you. And… um. Well I never really… thought about letting myself be interested in someone but maybe… I guess it kind of just clicked when the possibility of liking a guy came up. I…. Maybe with a little time or something, I-” Lance placed a hand on his arm. “Hey Keith. Breathe,” he said with a smile. Keith smiled back at him, his cheeks dusted with red. “We'll figure it out together, yeah?” “That'd be nice,” he answered softly. “Thank you.” “Yeah. Yeah, of course. Um.... Well, for now, I’m your right-hand man. You know that, right?” Keith smiled and nodded. “Perfect. I’m going to go ahead and go to bed. I’m really tired,” he said with a light laugh. Lance nodded and gestured for them to leave the hangar. They’d barely made it one step out when the castle jostled, toppling them over and sirens rang in their ears. “What the-?” “We’re getting attacked,” Keith realized, his voice dropping lower, his laughter gone. In its place a determined, angry expression. “Get your armor and your lion.” Lance nodded and raced off to tug on his armor. The original paladins really should have thought about making them a little more efficient. He went to the red lion who had lost all the playful purrs and replaced with vicious, menacing growls. Lance went in, sitting at his pilot’s seat before flying her out of the castle. The black and blue lions were already out. Pidge and Hunk followed quickly after, and the particle barrier flew up around the castle, flickering after the damage it took to the system. There were several Galra planes with ion blasters aimed toward them. “We don’t have time to form Voltron,” Keith growled. “We have to knock out most of the defenses. If we can, try to pinpoint Lotor’s. If not, at least get rid of enough so Coran and Shiro can distract them long enough for us to form,” Keith commanded. His voice was certain, level, no rush, only determination. “Roger that.” “On it!” “Sounds like a plan.” “You got it.” The lions spread out and a variety of colors began to paint the small part of the universe they were in. Blue, red, yellow, green, dark and light purple, white. All the beams and weapons shot across the sky creating a beautifully terrifying picture. The sounds of crashing metal, explosions, and weapons filled the silence. It was incredible to think that this was happening while the rest of the universe remained oblivious. Pidge had taken a particularly hard hit, and Hunk spent half the time acting as her second armor while fending off his own Galran ships. Allura and Lance managed to work together to shoot down some of the Galras, but more took their place. Shiro and Coran were sending their own hits from the castle but it wouldn’t be long before the castle was surrounded by ion blasters and shot down if the paladins could make them retreat soon. Of course, Keith had noticed and apparently decided to dive headfirst. Lance saw his lion speeding toward Lotor’s main battleship, the jaw blade slicing through any ship that came toward him and ducking any blasts shot his way. “Keith! What are you doing?” Lance shouted into the comm. “I’m cutting the head off this hydra,” he answered, his voice tight and angry. “It’s dangerous to go al-” “I’m already here, Lance,” Keith interrupted. “Keep fighting. All of you.” Lance could barely keep himself focused knowing Keith was heading right into the belly of the beast. Suddenly he was knocked aside and Allura shot an ice ray at two enemy ships that had aimed at Lance. “Focus, Lance,” she chided. “Someone has to help Keith,” he said. “What?” she nearly shrieked. But Lance was already starting for Lotor and the black lion. Come on, Red. I know you can do this. Red seemed to snarl in response, moving quicker and smoother, dodging blasts, nearly controlling Lance’s body as he shot his magma beam until they reached the platform of Lotor’s ship. He was horrified to see Keith wasn’t even in his lion anymore. “Keith what are you doing?” he shouted, not bothering to be subtle. “Get in your lion!” “I’m in,” he answered softly. He was sneaking in. But did he really think Lotor wouldn’t know he was there? “He’s in range…. It would help if I had my sharpshooter, you know?” Lance felt terror grip his throat. Too close, he was too close to danger. “Keith,” he said firmly. “Don’t do this. Get back in the lion.” “Lance, I have a chance to end this. I’m taking it. Are you helping or-” There was a series of noises that none of the paladins knew what to make of. “Keith?” Pidge shouted. “You there?” “Are you okay, Keith?” Allura asked, her voice calm, but Lance knew her well enough to know her face would be panicked. “Coran, Shiro, can you pick up his vitals?” Lance asked in a panic. “He’s there. They must have knocked the helmet off, but he’s okay. I got his heartbeat on the system,” Shiro said. “He’s surrounded by five Galra,” Coran added. Lance growled under his breath and grit his teeth. “I told him,” he muttered as he left his lion. “Lance what are you doing, dude?” Hunk shouted. “We can’t have you in danger too, get back in!” “Sorry, big guy. He’d do the same if I was in there. I’m pulling him out by the ear,” he promised. “Be careful, Lance,” Pidge warned before grunting, possibly in response to another attack. “Hunk!” Lance shut them out and dipped into the ship, noting that there was a severe lack of security. He slinked through hallways, heart pounding like hummingbird wings. “Guys, can I get a location?” he whispered into his comm. “Two more hallways down, turn right, second opening. It’s the control room,” Coran answered. “Have your shield up, my boy.” “Got it,” Lance answered, sprinting closer. There were no guards. No cameras. No trip wires or booby traps. Then he heard it. The fighting, the lack of mercy, the painful screams that made Lance’s blood freeze. He raced into the room, in time to shoot at a large Galra with tufts on the side of her head before she could get a hold of Keith. Keith looked over in surprise and seemed relieved when he saw Lance. “I told you-!” Lance cut off when he saw another Galra, this one cloaked, coming toward him. There were no facial features- no eyes, no mouth, no nose. He stepped back and tripped over something. He felt a gentle pressure on his chest and opened his eyes. A cat. It was a cat. Before he could shove it off, the blank faced Galra leapt onto him, hand clutching his throat without mercy. He heard a growl, and he could see Keith in his peripheral vision. His blade was a blur, his body agile, moving where it had to, light as he jumped and turned and kicked. Lance gripped the Galra’s wrist and  thrust his elbow up to hit her in the chin, causing her to jump back. Lance aimed his blaster at her, scowling as sher tilted her head, and the cat hissed and flicked its tail. “Move!” Keith shouted, gripping his arm and dragging him back as a beam blasted the ground where he’d been standing. “If you’d listened to me, this wouldn’t be happening!” “But I didn’t and it is, you really want to have this argument now?” he snapped, as he stood back to back with him, eyeing the Galra generals. There was a pink one with colorful markings and a childish smile standing in front of Lance. She didn’t look Galran at all. Not like the others. In fact, Lance could imagine himself trying to hit on to her if they’d met on a different planet. “They brought two of the kitties!” she said happily. As if there wasn’t a full-blown battle underway. “I thought so,” a deep, musical voice purred. Lance let his eyes drift where he saw movement, his hand tensing around the trigger of his blaster. He saw a Galran with stark white hair and yellow eyes with purple irises like Keith’s and an angular face. Lotor. He seemed so calm, so at ease. “Can we kill them yet?” the one with tufts growled. “I want the tall one,” she snarled, baring her teeth. “Patience,” Lotor said almost lazily. “Narti. Bring the lions aboard.” The cloaked one slinked away. “You take two I take two?” Lance whispered. He heard Keith huff in response. Then he heard an angry shriek as Keith lunged forward and brought his blade down on a human-esque Galra. The only thing that showed she was Galra was her skin tone and the ridges on her head. The violent one lunged at Lance, but he managed to duck and roll out of the way, coming up on one knee to shoot, the force of the blow throwing her against Lotor. “Oh, you’re cute!” the pink one said, flipping him upside down with the strange tail growing out of her head like a fleshy ponytail. Then she threw him against the wall. “Lance!” Keith shouted. He shoved the Galra aside and started for the pink one who danced around him with a musical laugh, moving as quickly as Keith. Lance pulled himself up and shot at the other Galra. Lotor scowled as the taller one blocked the hits with a large piece of metal. “Let’s go!” he snapped. “We have the lions. These two are useless.” The pink one managed a graceful backflip back towards Lotor, leaving Keith breathless as he glared. “Acxa. Make sure the fleets pull back. We can get the other lions another day.” The humanoid one nodded and slipped away, casting a final glare at them, reminding Lance of Keith. As the metal started coming down, Lance shot again, shoving the unsuspecting Galra back. She growled, but Lance kept his blaster levelled with his eyes, ready to shoot again. Lotor scowled and looked at them with contempt. “I’m feeling generous, paladins. Leave. Your services are no longer needed.” He smirked and turned away as if the fact that both Lance and Keith had weapons meant nothing to him. The other two followed. As much as Lance wanted to go after them, he knew it would be futile. They could barely fight them off last time when they were all together and now Lotor was there too. He gripped Keith’s arm and tugged him. “Let’s go. We’ll figure out how to get the lions back,” he said. He had to call for one of the others to come get them and take them back to the Castle of Lions. Then Lotor’s voice echoed through the control room. “Oh, and Zethrid? Get the bayards.” Just like that the Galra was on them, all growls and angry hits, tossing Lance aside like a rag doll as she wretched the blaster from his hands. He saw spots in his vision for a few seconds before he could process Keith shouting his name again. When his sight refocused, he saw Keith slicing his blade down, pushing Zethrid’s growling figure back, back, back. She lifted the blaster, but that was a long range weapon. Keith was fighting too close, moving too quickly. Lance heard more commotion, heard more fighting. Had the others come to help? One had called back the other fleets. The paladins were free to help. Maybe they could still win. Lance saw the blue blast fill the room before he heard it. He turned, shrieking for Keith in a panic, stumbling forward to find him. Then he heard a defiant yell and the sound of a blade being impaled. There was an angry roar and Lance saw Keith’s blade shoved into Zethrid’s side. She shoved him back, hitting him with the butt of the blaster before stumbling away, panting for breath. “Keith? Keith!” Lance shouted. Half of him wanted to hug Keith, and half of him wanted to yank him by the ear. But the second he saw him still standing, he decided to go with the former. He struggle to get onto his feet and threw his arms around Keith, pulling him in tightly as he was flooded with relief. His limbs began to shake from the adrenaline coursing through him. “Oh thank God you’re okay.” “L-Lance?” he croaked. “I’m right here,” he said. Keith’s arms came around him, then he slumped, and Lance staggered before he could regain his grip. “Keith?” “That blaster hurts so quiznacking much,” he wheezed. His eyes were glazed over, struggling to focus on Lance. Lance’s eyes went wide and he let them trail down. The white armor at his chest was smeared with crimson blood. Blood that kept flowing out from the the black nylon just under the slope of the armor, glistening in the most sickening way as it pulsed out of him. He had been hit too close. Lance fell to his knees, cradling Keith gently and shook his head. “No, no, no. You’re gonna be okay, okay? Focus on me. Look at me. Look at me.” Keith’s violet eyes flickered to him, blinking rapidly. Lance was vaguely aware of the fighting happening outside the room. “The others are here. They'll be here soon okay, just hold on. Keith, talk to me. Please.” “It- hurts,” he choked, his face contorting, his body spasming in Lance’s arms. His eyes stayed on him. “Ev-everything hurts.” He gasped for air and coughed, causing blood to sputter out and dribble down the corner of his mouth. “I-I should’ve… li-listened to you.” “Yeah, you think so?” Lance answered, his voice weak and breaking as he held Keith. “It’s okay. We’ll patch you up and put you in a healing pod and then when you’re out, I’m going to hound you for this. I'll put you in time out and everything. You're officially grounded.” Keith’s mouth quirked, but instead of sending butterflies through Lance, it caused terrified goosebumps. His eyes were too distant. The blood was bright against his pale, sweaty face. Lance gulped and held him tighter. “Then we’ll go see the eclipse. We can sit together. Drink space juice and watch and pretend none of this ever happened,” he continued with a soft, weak voice. He wasn't sure he believed himself. “Sounds… like… a date,” he breathed. His breaths were short and his grip was losing strength as he clung to Lance. The words made a half sob, half laugh bubble up in Lance and he pressed his forehead to Keith’s. “Take care of Red for me,” he mumbled. “W-what? Keith? No, no, no, Keith, wake up,” Lance said, shaking him. Keith winced, but his eyes fluttered open. “Don’t fall asleep. Don’t you dare, Mullet. We’re in the middle of battle, you can’t fall asleep. I swear I’ll start calling you Sleeping Beauty if you dare fall asleep on me.” Keith smiled weakly, his fingers twitching as they gripped Lance’s arm. “As long as you wake me up,” he whispered, shutting his eyes. “No, Keith. Open your eyes. Open your eyes, come on,” he insisted. Keith did, but it was obvious he was struggling. His gaze focused on the ceiling as his eyes watered and more blood seeped from his mouth. “Keith, come on,” Lance moaned. “I-I don’t… I don’t feel anything any-anymore,” he gasped. “Keith, stay with me. Stay awake, okay?” Lance whimpered. Keith’s breaths slowed, his eyes fluttering before they turned blank, slightly cross-eyed as his head lolled to the side. “No!” He shook Keith almost violently. “Come back! Come back, come back, come back!” he pleaded. “No, no, no!” he wailed, pulling Keith closer, sobbing into his hair as his limp body rested against him. Lance placed his lips to his icy, sweaty forehead, sobbing, hands shaking as he caressed him, begging him to wake up, to come back. He heard the rush of footsteps, heard the gasps, the shriek that must have come from Pidge, but he couldn’t bring himself to lift his head from where it remained buried in the crook of his neck, covered by that stupid, adorable mullet. Keith had been his rival. Then he became his leader. Then his friend. He became one of the few friends Lance could trust completely. And now he was gone. No more smiles. No more varying tones of voice. No more galaxy eyes reading him like an open book. No more maybes, no more hope, no more….

Hey! Happy birthday!! I hope I'm not too late, I understand if I'm am, but if you're still accepting prompts could I get some Keith and Pidge interaction? Like literally anything, but if you want a more specific prompt, like maybe they go on a mission and Keith get's hurt, and Pidge has to get them both back to the others? Or again just anything you want to do with those two. Also I Love your voltron fics on AO3, they're amazing!! I espically love your Friends in Space Places series!
Tumblr media
I decided to combo these two since they had similar characters and topics! Hope you guys enjoy, even if this is probably not even remotely what you had in mind (but man, the idea got in my head and I couldn’t let it go!)---------- Pidge gasps in pain as she dives behind the high stack of metal storage containers and comes down the wrong way on her bad leg. She bites her tongue to keep from yelling and giving away her position, and twists to sit with her back against the container, stretching her bad leg out in front of her. A moment later, Keith comes stumbling in after her. He thuds awkwardly against the side of the container with one shoulder, and nearly trips on Pidge as he skids to a stop and crouches down next to her. There’s a long pause as they take stock of the situation. Pidge can hear the clank of sentries all throughout the storage unit they’re hidden in on the Galra land base, and the occasional ba-choo ba-choo of their blasters as they fire to try and flush out the enemy. But Pidge thinks she and Keith have a few doboshes at least to catch their breath and figure out a plan.“Well,” Keith says after a moment, keeping his voice low, “At least it can’t—““If you say it can’t get worse,” Pidge interrupts him with a barely contained hiss, “I swear I will punch you so hard you can see again.”
Keith stares, and raises an eyebrow at her a moment later. At least, Pidge thinks that’s what’s happening. The effect is sort of greatly diminished by the fact that he’s staring about a foot to the left of her actual face. “Wouldn’t that be a good thing?”“Yes—no—ugh, never mind.” On occasion, Pidge forgets that Keith, while a great team mate in a lot of things, is less than savvy when it comes to things like don’t say it can’t get worse, it always gets worse. “Haven’t you ever seen a movie?”“I’ve seen plenty of movies,” Keith says, a touch defensively. “Then how can you…” A particularly sharp stab of pain races through her broken leg, and she gasps despite herself. “Y’know what, never mind. Not the time,” she manages to grit out through her teeth. Keith frowns. “How you doing?” he asks. He sounds concerned, and he’s clearly trying to force some degree of control into his tone for her benefit. “I saw you get hit before…”Pidge winces. They’d been on a mission to steal data from the Galra land base they were in. They’d used Shiro’s tried-and-true method of distraction and stealth—Shiro, Lance and Hunk were out wreaking havoc on the rest of the fleet and surface-to-air weapons and drawing attention to themselves, while Pidge had stealthed in with the Green Lion, with Keith for backup. And the first part of the plan had gone well—Keith had gotten them past the biometric locks easy, and it had been a breeze for Pidge to download all the data they were looking for.Getting out had proven to be a bit of a challenge though, because they’d gotten caught halfway through their escape back to the Green Lion. Even then it hadn’t been going so badly—Keith could mow through sentries when he was so inclined, and Pidge was no slouch in a fight. Then she’d gone and gotten herself hit by a druid’s spell. They hadn’t expected the druid to show up; no one had even figured there was a druid here. The caster had blinked out of nowhere and blasted at Pidge full on with a lightning bolt, and she’d barely had time to try and throw herself aside. She’d avoided taking the hit directly to her head or torso, but the lightning blast had smashed into her right leg, and it hurt. She’d collapsed, and it had taken her a moment to even remember where the hell she was and what she was supposed to be doing through all the pain.Keith had hit the druid from behind when it charged up another blast to finish off Pidge. The good news was he’d managed to kill it, driving his Marmora blade through the druid’s chest. The bad news was he’d taken a faceful of imploding druid spell when he did. His helm had protected him from the worst of the damage, but he’d stared straight into the intensity of the spell as it burst. And when he’d staggered away from the twisted, burned out pile of robes moments later, wide-eyed and unfocused, Pidge had realized he’d been blinded.Even now, he doesn’t look good. The helm of his paladin armor has been shattered, leaving his head and face exposed, with a clear view of his eyes. His pupils are shrunk down to the size of pinpricks, and his gaze doesn’t track anything, even when she waves her fingers in front of his face. Not to mention the injuries he’s already sustained from the fight prior to that, a host of scrapes, bruises and burns from all the scuffles they’ve been in since getting spotted. Not that Pidge is much better. She can see, but her leg is totally busted. She doesn’t even want to look down at it; she already knows it’s gross. The bolt had shattered most of her greave and burned through the under armor, leaving everything from the knee down a burned, cracked, sluggishly bleeding mess. It smells like charred meat, and it’s only through sheer force of will that she’s not throwing up.“Been better,” she admits, trying to downplay it for now. She’s in rough shape, but Keith can’t see that, and there’s no point in worrying him more. She does her best to keep the rough edge of pain out of her voice. “You? Any vision coming back?”“No. Everything’s dark and fuzzy.” He sounds frustrated, and Pidge doesn’t blame him. She’s seen Keith keep fighting with all manner of injuries, but he’s never had to fight blind before. A busted arm or leg might have worked out better for him than this. He’s calmer than most people would be when suddenly rendered sightless, but he’s still more anxious than Keith usually is in a fight.Pidge really, really hopes the cryo-pods can fix that. She’s pretty sure they can. Almost positive. Assuming they can get to one, anyway. Odds are less good on that, unfortunately. She curses under her breath as the clank of sentries starts to get closer. “We are so screwed. There’s no way the others can get to us in time, even if we did manage to get a distress signal out.” There must have been more panic or pain in her voice than she’d intended for, because Keith frowns. “Hey, no,” he says, and flails round a bit awkwardly in front of him, narrowly missing Pidge’s face before he manages to find her shoulder. He squeezes reassuringly when he finally does, and says insistently, “Look, I’m okay, and you’re okay. We’re both okay and neither of us is dead yet. And that means we can figure a way out between us. But you’re the brains here, Pidge—if you can figure out a plan I’ll follow you.”“How?” Pidge snaps, more aggressively than intended. “You can’t even see me to follow, and I can’t walk to lead! The only working thing we’ve got between us are arms, and it’s not like we’re Voltron and only need to be the…one…thing…”Her eyes widen in surprise, and suddenly she has it.“Pidge?” Keith asks with concern. His hand, still on her shoulder, gives her a little shake. “I have a really stupid idea,” Pidge tells him solemnly. “It might not even work. It’s pretty ridiculous.”“It’s already better than what I have, which is nothing,” Keith tells her. “What’s the plan?”Pidge takes a deep breath. “I’m gonna be your eyes,” she tells him, “and you’re gonna be my legs. We’re gonna Voltron this. Kind of. Two person Voltron.” To his credit, Keith only takes about five ticks to process it before he says, “Okay, fine. I can’t see what I’m doing—gonna need your help to get you on my back.” It’s an awkward and thoroughly painful endeavor, but in the end Pidge is situated in a piggyback with Keith carrying her. She’s able to help by clinging to his shoulders with her arms, and keeping her left leg curled around his waist as much as possible, although the overall effect is a bit monkey-like. She thanks her lucky stars Lance isn’t here to make fun of them for it.“Can you move okay?” Pidge asks.“Maybe. I think. You’ll have to direct,” Keith says. “How do we fight though? We’re open targets like this.”“I can help with my bayard, but I’ll need to take the right side,” Pidge says. “Good thing you’re ambidextrous, you’ll have to be the left arm.”“There’s a change of pace,” Keith mutters. Pidge rolls her eyes, and pushes his Marmora knife into his hand—he’d lost it on the floor when trying to help her climb onto his back with a busted leg. “There. You’re armed…no pun intended. Whatever you do, don’t do that thing when you use your jetpack to fight, or I’m gonna be charbroiled Pidge, okay?”“I wouldn’t even if you weren’t being my eyes,” Keith says, grumbling. “With my luck I’d blast myself right into a wall.” The almost cartoonish image in her head of a flattened Keith peeling off a wall Wile E. Coyote style might have been hilarious if the situation weren’t so dire. “I’ll keep you away from the walls,” Pidge promises. “On the count of three. Ready?” Keith crouches a little to better take her weight. The knife in his left hand extends to a full sword, glowing slightly. His right hand curls beneath her upper leg to better support her injured limb, which is simultaneously painful and a relief. “Ready.” “One…two…three…go!” Keith blasts out from behind the storage containers in a rush. Pidge grimaces at how painfully it jars her leg, but does her best to ignore it—especially since they have bigger concerns. Two sentries are right there, and immediately turn to raise their blasters. “Shit!” Pidge curses, and lashes out with her bayard, activating the taser function as soon as the grapple leaves its port. The two sentries jerk and sizzle almost immediately, collapsing where they stand. Unfortunately, her wild strike also throws Keith off balance, and he stumbles sideways, nearly tripping on one of the collapsed robots and colliding with another metal container.“Sorry,” Pidge says with a wince. “I didn’t mean to—strike left!”Keith, to his credit, doesn’t even hesitate. He swipes out in a wide arc to the left with his Marmora blade, bracing his legs to counter the momentum. It’s wildly uncoordinated, but it does still manage to slice open the front half of a sentry’s chest cavity, enough that it sparks and collapses to the ground.“Felt something—did I hit it?” Keith asks, head twisting around and eyes wide, like he’s trying to see through the non-existent gloom. Pidge spits out some of his hair that gets in her mouth, and pulls back to keep from getting her chin smashed with his skull. But that ends up overbalancing Keith the wrong way, and he staggers backwards. “Ugh, this is hard,” Pidge hisses in frustration. She leans forward again, keeping her head to Keith’s right instead to help balance him again. “Keep going forward, I think we’re clear for a few ticks.”Keith does, leaning forward for better momentum. Pidge swears she hears him muttering under his breath, “Starting to appreciate the work Hunk and Lance do more….”Despite herself, Pidge snorts. They blast through the storage room, and manage to avoid most of the sentries, which have spread out throughout all the containers searching for their quarry. “Watch the robes on the floor,” Pidge says, and Keith manages to skirt around them at her direction to avoid tripping on the druid’s remains. “Right right right!” she hisses next, and Keith banks hard, nearly unseating Pidge as he turns for the door. She wraps her hand hard around his collar and neck to keep hanging on, and he makes a strangled choking noise. “Breathing’s nice,” he manages to hiss at her, as he manages to stagger back upright from the turn. “Sorry,” she mutters. “Go for broke. Run! Fast!”Keith does, and even blinded and burdened with her additional weight, he’s pretty fast. He leans forward to get the most speed he can, and Pidge leans forward with him, thankful he trusts her enough to just run full out without fear of careening into a wall. They make it up the first hallway just in time, and when Pidge (carefully) turns to look over her shoulder, the remaining sentries are only just starting to get into place enough to shoot.“Turn coming up ahead,” Pidge warns. “On your right. Maybe twenty steps.”“Got it,” Keith acknowledges. He nearly overshoots the turn anyway, and clips the edge of the hall with his left shoulder as Pidge screeches, “Turn, turn, turn already!” The Marmora blade takes a small chunk out of the corner of the hallway intersection, and Keith winces. “Sorry,” Pidge says, genuinely apologetic. “Forgot your steps are longer than mine.”“S’fine,” Keith says, panting slightly. “What’s next?”“We make it down this hallway and one more, and we’re at the bay we hid the Green Lion in,” Pidge says. “It’ll be locked, we’re gonna need your hand for th—dodge right!” Keith does immediately, barely missing the blast from the sentry’s gun as the enemy appears ahead of them. “Not that far right!” Pidge screeches a moment later, as Keith turns too far and bounces off the right wall. She suppresses a scream through clenched teeth as her bad leg slams against the metal walls of the hallway, and her fingers dig into Keith’s collar unconsciously. “Pidge!” Keith yells. “You okay? I’m sorry, I didn’t mean—““S’fine,” it’s Pidge’s turn to hiss, still through clenched teeth. “Brace. My bayard.” They do better the second time she attacks. This time, Keith turns and manages to counter her momentum as she lashes out with her bayard. It’s not unlike Voltron’s movements when Keith strikes in the Red Lion with the Blazing Sword, and she wonders if maybe he learned it from that. Whatever the case, her electrified bayard smashes into the sentry’s head, and it collapses to the floor. They don’t teeter awkwardly afterwards, and Keith is able to right them again with no incident.“Ten paces and jump, or you’ll trip over the sentry I just downed,” Pidge warns.“My steps or yours?”“Yours—jump!”Keith does, clearing the robot’s sparking remains just barely. He stumbles awkwardly on the landing, and Pidge is afraid for a moment they’re going to go tumbling, but he manages to catch them both at the last minutes and get upright again. “Where now?” he asks, trying and failing to look around on instinct. “Forward, twenty more paces, then turn left,” Pidge orders. This goes much more smoothly than the last turn, and Keith actually manages to make it into the center of the hallway without hitting anything, which is impressive on both of their parts. There’s two more sentries there, but Keith lashes out at Pidge’s order with his Marmora blade and manages to take one down through sheer dumb luck, and Pidge manages to electrocute the second. “Run about fifty more steps,” Pidge orders. “Then start to slow down. There’s a door ahead, don’t run into it. We’re gonna need your hand for this.” Keith follows her directions, and manages to not slam headfirst into a locked steel door, which is a relief. Then comes the newest hurdle. “Uh…how do I…” he asks, trying to look around for the panel right next to his head, and staring right through it without realizing. “Give me the sword thing. Carefully,” Pidge instructs. Keith, to his credit, trusts her with his Marmora weapon without hesitation, reducing it to knife size and holding it up by the blade for her to take the handle. She manages to not impale either of them with it when she takes it from him. When his hand is free, she says, “Panel’s on your left. About head height.”Keith pats around on the wall awkwardly, but after two or three tries he still can’t seem to find it. She can tell he’s getting frustrated—for all his supposed calm through all of this, Pidge can tell his blindness is clearly bothering him. She grimaces, sticks her own bayard between her teeth to free up her hand, and grabs Keith’s wrist, guiding it to the panel. Keith huffs in irritation, but after a moment he mutters, “Thanks.”“Don’t mention it. Really.” The panel beeps as it recognizes Keith’s Galra DNA, and the door slides open—just as company shows up from behind them. “Go! Two steps, and we’ll lock it.”Keith does as bid, and Pidge hastily presses his hand against the panel on the other side of the door. “Hold it there,” she instructs, and Keith does. Pidge hastily punches in half a dozen instructions on the keypad, and the panel beeps again, flashing red as the door slams behind them. “Okay, locked. We shouldn’t get hit from behind, at least until they can override that.”“Good.” Keith pulls his hand away from the panel, and Pidge presses the handle of his knife back into his palm. She feels the tension leave his shoulders just slightly when he gets the weapon back—Keith definitely does not like being unarmed in a dangerous place like this. “Where’m I going now?”“Forward, and—oh, no.” Pidge can see the green honeycombed dome of the Green Lion’s particle barrier just ahead, and the wide-open bay doors just behind, letting in hot desert wind and bright sunlight. It’s a beautiful, welcome sight. The twenty or so sentries between them and the Green Lion, however, are not.“What? What’s going on? What do you see?”“Trouble,” Pidge hisses. “We got so close—left, dodge left!”Keith does, tripping over some spare wiring, and he crashes painfully to his knees behind a pile of large metal canisters. They miss being shot by inches. “How many?” Keith asks, panting and wincing slightly as he gingerly tries to shift to a more comfortable crouch without dropping her. “Sounds like a lot.”“It’s a lot,” Pidge agrees. “More than we could take—“There’s a screech of metal and a shuddering rumble that sends Keith collapsing onto his side, with Pidge sprawled out painfully next to him. A moment later there’s an unmistakable digital roar, and the dry, hot desert heat gets inexplicably frigid. “We figured you guys could use a little help,” Lance’s voice says over the comms. Pidge has never been more happy to hear that voice, even if she can absolutely see the smug look on Lance’s face that unquestionably accompanies that tone. She hastily manages to re-climb onto Keith’s back with his help, and he clambers to his feet. Pidge peeks carefully around the stack of canisters, and her eyes go wide in surprise. The Blue Lion is hanging half in and half out of the bay, behind the Green Lion. Its metal paws outstretched as far as they can go across the bay floor, huge claws dug into the steel panelling for stability. Blue is a little too big to fit into the bay door properly, and is wedged awkwardly into place by the blue plating of its back; Pidge is pretty sure the Yellow and Black Lions couldn’t have managed the tight fit at all at all. Lance has managed to cram his Lion in just enough to get a decent angle with its ice ray, and the sentries that had been between them and the Green Lion are now little more than miniature glaciers. “Nice shot, Lance!” Pidge says. Even Keith nods in agreement, although he can’t actually see the extent of the maneuver. “I got you covered, get in your Lion,” Lance says. The Blue Lion’s head turns and its jaw opens wide, aimed at the door they’d just come through. Pidge isn’t about to argue. “Careful,” she warns Keith. “The ground’s icy now, watch your footing.” He nods in acknowledgement, and she manages to guide him around the icy pillars of former sentries to the Green Lion’s particle barrier. Green drops the barrier when they’re close, and even helpfully crouches just in front of Keith, opening her jaws wide and dropping the ramp at his feet so he doesn’t have to find his way to her on his own. Getting through the hatch to the cockpit is a veritable nightmare, but Keith eventually manages to stagger his way to the pilot’s chair, patting awkwardly until he finds it. He deposits Pidge in her seat and sits down wearily with his back to the dashboard, closing his eyes—not that it does much, as far as Pidge can tell.“We’re out of here!” Pidge calls over the comms. “Lance, back out so we can escape. Thanks for the cover.”“Are you two alright?” Shiro asks. He’s using his Leader Voice, but there’s an edge of concern to it. Pidge isn’t sure how much the three of them managed to hear over the comms, but they have to know things weren’t exactly going great. “Nothing a cryo-pod won’t cure,” Keith says, loud enough for Green’s cabin comm to pick it up. Shiro makes a little hmph that says he’s not entirely satisfied with the answer, but it’s the best he’s gonna get for the moment. “How’d you guys make it out?” Hunk asks, as Pidge finally guides the Green Lion out of the bay. She sees the Yellow and Black Lions zip past defensively, blasting several approaching fighters out of the air. “We figured we would have to break in somehow to get you guys out of there.”“Just had to think like Voltron,” Pidge answers, grinning a little. She glances over in Keith’s direction, and even though she knows he can’t see her grin, she does catch the little smirk on his face all the same. Yeah, things aren’t the greatest at the moment—her leg is still killing her, and Keith’s still blind until they can get him in a cryo-pod, so piloting and actual Voltron are out until further notice. But like Keith said…she was okay, and so was he. They were alive, and they’d made it out in one piece between them. And that wasn’t a bad ending at all.And more importantly, she can’t believe that idiotic plan worked. She can’t wait until she has time to tell them the full story. Lance and Hunk are going to eat it up. Even Shiro and Allura and Coran will probably be impressed. Yeah. Definitely not a bad ending at all.

Note
after that kidnaping post I feel like I need some family comedy in my life. idk I could totally see keith being the person that could read smut with a straight face(as long as it's not directed towards him it's all cool). So one day keith is editing this sex scene and writing constructive criticism for the author and shiro reads it over his shoulder and is scandalize(your reading that at the family table?!) and keith just shrugs and says: how do you think I found out i'm ace?
I am laughing so hard because this is just hilarious! LMAO THANK YOU. This is a great prompt and I hope not to disappoint XD
[The Voltron Family] The three kids were in the kitchen trying to bake cookies with Hunk leading them considering he was 11 now and Lance was 10 and Pidge was 9. Keith was in the breakfast table, monitoring them making sure not to make too much mess on a Saturday morning—all while working on a new author he was handling. It was a bit different from his usual ones, which were young adult novels, but Keith was open to new things—this manuscript being aimed at 18 and above.
Basically it had smut. The manuscript was thick, and currently he was reading the sex scene and he couldn’t help but criticize it. Not only the writing, but the way the sex was happening between two guys. Keith kept knitting his eyebrows in frustration as he scribbled using his red pen on the sides for notes.
Better think this one through. I don’t believe it could stretch that much. Take this from me, I know.
This is just honestly too unsanitary. Revise.
I’m not kink shaming but, this is absolutely impossible to do. Revise or think of another kink.
Hunk: Daddy Keith, how many cups of sugar again?Keith: *looks up* Just one cup, baby. *smiles*
Keith went back to reading with a straight face while his kids laughed at how Lance couldn’t get to crack an egg right.
Keith: Make sure to wash your hands, Lance. And Pidge, pick up that wooden spoon and wash it if you’re going to use it again. *goes back to reading*
Shiro joined them in the kitchen all fresh and clean after his workout. He saw Keith sitting on the stool by the breakfast table, reading while looking so bored but he’d bend down to write a thing or two. The kids spotted him and signaled them to hush it as he walked over behind Keith to wrap his arms around Keith’s tummy and resting his chin on Keith’s shoulder.
Shiro: Good morning, red bean. *kisses Keith’s cheek*Keith: *hums in acknowledgement* *nuzzles his cheek on Shiro’s* *continues to concentrate reading* Shiro: *smiles* *hugs Keith tighter*
Shiro’s eyes wandered on the manuscript Keith was reading and it started out great and then suddenly he read the sex scenes and he detached himself from Keith, looking absolutely scandalized.
Shiro: *taps Keith* *whispers* YOU’RE READING THAT IN THE FAMILY TABLE?!!! *looks at the kids pointedly* WITH THE KIDS IN THE KITCHEN?! Keith: *turns around to look at Shiro* *raises eyebrow* You say that as if I’m reading smut to the kids out loud.Shiro: *blushes* But Keith! That’s so… *whispers* obscene.Keith: It is. *sighs*Shiro: How can you read that with such a straight face?!Keith: *snorts* How’d you think I found out I’m ace? Shiro: *gapes* You read por—Keith: *chuckles* I tried things to see if something’s wrong with me, babe. This… *points at the manuscript* just doesn’t affect me. Or anything sexual for that matter to be honest. Then I accepted myself, I just don’t, yknow?Shiro: *smiles* And that’s fine, Keith. *hugs* I love you just the way you are.Keith: *smiles* You cheese ball. *turns back to the paper* Also, this is honestly frustrating. Check this out. This guy thinks he could stretch like a friggin gymnast! No one can be that flexible without proper training and—Shiro: *rests his chin on Keith’s shoulder* Hmmmm *reads* Oh my god. That’s gross. *points at a scene* How are people this— that is unsafe.Keith: That’s what I said. *sighs* Mind helping me? You’re more… yanno.Shiro: *raises an eyebrow* More what, Keith? I’m more what? *smirks*Keith: This is your area of expertise, not mine. I only have you as my se—Shiro: *covers Keith’s mouth* *whispers* DON’T SAY THAT IN FRONT OF THE KIDS!!! You’re so scandalous! I’ll help you, okay? Just don’t traumatize our children at the tender age of 11. *looks at Hunk*Hunk: *looks back at them curiously* Yes?Shiro: You’re doing great, sweetheart! *takes a seat beside Keith* *looks at his husband* Okay, now which part do you need— *notices Keith staring at him* What now?Keith: You’re so wonderful, you know that? *smiles fondly* Shiro: *rolls eyes* Now who’s the cheese ball here? *bumps Keith* Now lemme see that. *takes the manuscript*

Shamchat wouldn't let me post this, so yeah
This is a conversation between Pidge and yourself, Lance.
Lance: Lance walked into the green lion's hanger, seeing Pidge hunched over a computer, the screen's light reflecting in her glasses."Have you been here all night?"
Pidge: She glanced up at him briefly, then went back to looking at her screen. "Are you surprised?"
Lance: "Not really, but it was a good seg-way for this." He put himself between her and the computer."C'mon Pidge, you haven't been sleeping alot, don't try to deny it, your eyes have more baggage than Keith."
Pidge: Pidge sighed and reached around him for her laptop. "I'm busy, Lance. And I can take care of myself."
Lance: "You're always busy, you always have been busy, and you refuse to take a break." He replied, blocking the way to the laptop."One of these days you're gonna overwork yourself!" He crossed his arms as he finished speaking
Pidge: She stood. "Maybe. And it's none of your fucking business if I do. /Move/."
Lance: "Yes it is!" He retorted."You're my teammate, more importantly, my friend and I don't wanna see you hurt, especially because of yourself." He said. It was one of the most serious things he said to her since Shiro had gone missing.
Pidge: Pidge slowly closed her eyes. She didn't expect him to get it. "Lance, just fuck off."
Lance: Lance narrowed his eyes. He hated himself for what he was about to say, but then again he already hated himself for so many other things, and it was also probably the only way he'd get her to listen."What would your brother say if he knew you were overworking yourself?"
Pidge: She laughed humorlessly. "If I ever see him again, I'll ask him."
Lance: Lance's expression softened."Pidge don't say that." He sighed."Look, you're smart, definitely the smartest person on this ship, you're gonna find your family, but you still need to look after yourself."
Pidge: She put her hands on her hips. "And you need to stay out of it. Now get out."
Lance: Lance matched her pose."Not until you promise me that you'll at least get some sleep tonight." He retaliated.
Pidge: Pidge rolled her eyes. "Sure, Lance. Now leave."
Lance: Lance leaned forward."I'm being serious here for once, that should show just how much everyone's worried about you, they're just all scared of you blowing up at them if they say anything. So, please, promise me, for real this time, or I'll bring Hunk in here and he'll use the puppy dog eyes."
Pidge: Pidge groaned. "Okay, I don't have time for this right now, we'll talk about it later or something, just /move/."
Lance: Lance sighed."Fine..but we are definitely talking later." He told her as he got out of her way. The hunk threat was emptier than the healing pods at the moment, but he had thought she would have stopped fighting at that point. He put his hands in his pockets, glancing at her screen. it was the footage of Matt she'd found at the prison.
Lance: He stalked out of the hanger, closing the door behind him. He turned around, seeing the others hovering outside the door."Well?" Allura pressed. Lance sighed."She said we'd talk about it later. I don't think she meant it though." He frowned. Keith growled."Why is she doing this?" He refrained from punching the wall. Lance looked at him."Well what would you do if you had a lead on Shiro? Probably the same thing. Look, just, I'll talk to her later, she's gonna have to come outta there some time.
Pidge: Pidge went back to reviewing all five seconds of footage she had for the billionth time, the futility of the situation hitting her again. She'd analyzed everything there was to analyze. Twice. Unless she was missing something, there wasn't anything more she could do. It was /hell/. Sure, she knew he was alive, or he had been not long ago, but what then? Maybe he was safe, maybe he was being held captive, maybe the group who broke him out had pumped him for information and killed him. It was impossible to know and she had no way of figuring out where they'd taken him. At least with the Galra, she'd had a vague idea of what he was going through. Meanwhile, she hadn't found anything on her dad at all. The situation was bleak and she was exhausted and they'd lost Shiro and everything was a fucking mess and there was nothing she could do but pore over the same stupid clip over and over again for hours at a time. Lance was right, she'd have to come out some time, but not for a long while.
Lance: ~le magical timeskip to a few hours later~
Lance: Lance sat outside the door, looking at the green headphones in his lap. Back when they had first come, it had been much harder for him to get to sleep since he couldn't listen to his music without headphones. So, Pidge had given him her headphones, saying that since she could get a primary source of information, she wouldn't need them anymore. And god it had helped so much. He wanted to do something like that for her. He didn't want her to feel the way he did. She was too good for that. It's not like he could get her family back, but he did wanna show her that she had another family here on the ship, even if it was a little broken at the moment. He considered knocking on the door, but figured that would just end the same way it had that morning. It would be better to let her come to him.
Pidge: Hours later and Pidge couldn't focus anymore. She also hadn't eaten in... awhile. Oops. Totally exhausted and a little defeated, she decided it was probably time to eat breakfast (lunch? dinner? what time was it?). She yawned, stretched, then finally left Green's hangar.
Lance: Lance jumped as he heard the door open and turned to see Pidge."Uh..hey." He stood up and handed the headphones to her."I figured you might wanna hear Matt in better sound quality." He smiled a little bit, but it dropped a few seconds after."I-I'm sorry about earlier, I was probably just being annoying and that was definitely not a good way to go about trying to help." He rambled.
Pidge: Pidge hadn't really been expecting anyone to be waiting for her and she blinked at him as her brain caught up with the situation, then pressed her headphones back into Lance's hands. "Thanks, but you can't hear him anyway." She started off for the kitchen again. "Don't worry about it."
Lance: Lance smiled a little and put the headphones around his neck and followed her."So, no luck yet?" He asked. He already knew the answer, but if he got her talking maybe she'd consider trying to sleep.
Pidge: She tensed, just slightly. "No."
Lance: Lance frowned, then considerably brightened as he remembered the morning meeting Pidge had missed."Wait a sec, Coran mentioned something earlier about an overtaken galra base, what if he's there?!" He exclaimed.
Pidge: She shook her head. "That wouldn't make any sense. The group that took him was clearly well-organized. You'd have to be a fucking idiot to take over a Galra base and stay there. The Galra wouldn't stand for it, they'd annihilate the place."
Lance: Lance frowned at that."Oh...yeah, you have a point." He sighed as he opened the door to the kitchen, but jumped back as he saw everyone staring at him and Pidge. There was a second or two of silence, then everyone rushed forward, glad that Pidge was finally out of the hanger. Lance sort of stood to the side. He looked at Coran, who was doing the same."You're sure that base is still there?" He hissed. Coran shrugged."Dunno, we haven't received another message yet." Meanwhile, Hunk and Allura were practically Pushing Pidge to the table, while Keith laughed his ass off at their pushiness.
Pidge: Clearly, she'd timed her break incredibly poorly. Lance had been more than enough company on his own. She was /really/ not in the mood to contend with all of them all at once, especially when they were so eager. In truth, it all struck her as a little overdramatic; she'd been working, it wasn't a big deal. But she let herself be herded around and pretended to listen as they spoke, not saying much herself.
Lance: What Pidge probably hadn't realized, was that she'd been working for three days straight. It was hard to tell in space when you didn't have a perfectly timed sun. Lance had just happened to be the first one to notice. Said boy sat down at the table."C'mon guys leave her alone, you guys have done just as worse things before." He said, gladly shoveling in the food goo. Hunk looked at him."Oh yeah, name one time!" Lance swallowed, then looked up."When you slept in the kitchen for a week to figure out a new recipe." Allura laughed at that. Lance looked to her next."When you tried to reverse the gravity of the pool after Pidge changed it for us. It took you 9 hours to quit." He looked to Keith."And this one once spent two days in the simulator at the garrison." He was about to turn to Coran. "Alright alright, save me the embarrassment." The ginger replied.
Pidge: Pidge at her food goo without really tasting it and let the conversation swirl around her without actually joining in. Part of her brain was still back in the hangar, trying to work through anything else she could possibly be doing. Once she'd finished eating, she took care of her dishes and left for the hangar again. Maybe she'd take her laptop and move her base of operations to the lab. As much as she appreciated Green's company, it might've been time for a change in scenery.
Lance: The others watched as the youngest member of their team left. Keith turned to Lance."Does that count as a break to her?" He blinked. Lance shrugged."I guess so. But we'll just have to take what we can get." He stood up, shoving his hands back in his pcokets.
Lance: pockets*
Pidge: Pidge did wind up moving to the lab after all. She settled in and got to work, but only made it a few more hours before she finally passed out. Despite her best attempts, she was still only human.
Lance: Lance walked down the halls, looking for his young friend. He suddenly heard snoring, and followed the sound. When he found her in the lab, he chuckled and shut down her equipment, knowing she'd kill someone if they let it overheat. After that, he picked her up and, since he didn't know where her room was, took her to his room. He put her down on his bed and draped the covers over her. She heavily reminded him of his own little sister back on earth. He laid down on the floor, figuring that if Pidge could sleep sitting up, draped over a desk, he could deal with the floor.
Pidge: ((gotta go, sorry!

Listen I'm a tough gal alright super tough and shit and ur Lance camp counselor au just really fucked me up like there were tears involved like wtf man wtf
b r o. I love going through the tags for that post and them being like “woah yes I love dying and being dead” to which I say to myself “muwahahah good, I am powerful” but also like...me too. I might be a litle high on Benadryl right now but screw it I have working internet for the time being (because I am, incidentally, working at my camp atm, and camp internet sucks because it’s slow and 13 people are using it)
I get so emotional when I talk about camp? and it’s impossible to explain to people who’ve never worked at a summer camp before. I can imagine Lance sitting on the castle ship making some reference to what a kid said last summer (camp memes are honestly? the best) and no one getting it and him just realizing that, oh...yeah. no one here knows. and he tries to explain what camp is and his arms fly around because camp!! camp is the best! you say it’s your last year, but is it? NO because camp is the bomb diggity. you are always dirty! you are low-key hungry a lot! probably also sunburnt! posssibly heat exhaustion! probable regular exhaustion! you aren;t paid well but don’t really care! and camp is family and doesn’t go halfway on anything. You have to be Extra all the time and believe in fairies and know for sure that there are no monsters in the woods because camp is magic and be absolutely certain how to make a fire and set up the tarp tent (a classic) so the children don’t laugh at you.
With all the other staff you live together and sleep together and eat together and roll around in mud together and wake up in puddles during a thunderstorm in the forest at 3am together and take care of kids together and all get each other sick together and cry together. damn. damn. Lance would have loved that. I don’t think you can look at a character like him and say “Nah, he wouldn’t work at a summer camp” because he totally absolutely would and tbh I’m pretty sure he has (seriously, quiznack? camp counsellor vocab everyone. I say shedonks and oopsie-doodles. in conversation with grown-ups. you can leave camp but camp ain’t gonna leave you) And children say the damnedest things and hug your legs, and make you bracelets and weird bead animals and throw up on you and only bring only one extra set of clothes for a seven day overnight camp and ask for a helicopter when you go on short hikes. they’re great. and ridiculous. And Lance worked at a summer camp and nothing anyone will ever say can convince me otherwise.
plus in my breaks I’m working on the proper AU for it where they all muck around as senior staff at summer camp because no one has any idea what they’re doing they just know that at least it’s safe and fun that’s all that matters.

Matchup please? I'm a 5'1 bisexual female. I have blonde hair and grey blue eyes. I love to smile and making others smile, it's nice to make someone's day, or making it better.I love musicals, writing(angst), and I'm deeply in love with history. I have a "hero" personality and even though I try to be helpful I feel useless sometimes. Sometimes I'm too nice for my own good. I try to think positively all the time. I hit on people but as soon as I try hitting on someone I like I'm a blushing mess.
Tumblr media
Hey guys, since I have Thursday and Friday off this week because of my school’s parent-teacher conferences, I’m going to be cleaning out my inbox (a lot). I have matched everyone who requested a match-up, but the reason they’re taking so long is because I write a lot under the description and I’m not done with them (please bear with me). So, as of right now, that leaves me with 8 match-ups and 2 headcanons. I really hope you like this, anon. I ship you with Lance!
Okay, I know I’ve said before that I like couples that “complete” each other… but then, I run into situations like these and I just can’t help myself. I really ship you two, like honestly. Oh my word. This is too cute.
Smiling and making others smile? That’s literally what Lance does. He dedicates himself to making others comfortable and cheering them up, but with you next to him, he finally has someone to do that for him, and he will forever be that person for you. It’s really nice knowing that you two know you have someone to go to when you need to smile and that’s actually how you bond and later get together. You two are constantly trying to make each other’s day get better, especially when it’s so bad that you can visible see the difference in demeanor.
I don’t know why, but I can see Lance really liking musicals?? And if not, then he needs to be with someone who does? I don’t really understand why, but I guess I just kinda associate him with musicals. Like, Hamilton. I don’t really listen to a lot of Hamilton, but the songs that I do listen to, I feel like Lance would really enjoy. You two sing every word to the songs that you learned together, and it doesn’t even matter to you when someone *cough* Keith *cough* comes knocking on your door and demands that you shut up while he tries to sleep. You will belt, even if it means off-key, and you will belt in harmony.
Lance is totally up for reading your angst writings and he just genuinely loves it. It makes him so emotional and hits him in all of the feels. If you ever want someone to read what you’re writing and see if it’s good, he’s first in line and always asks for more when he’s done. He probably gets as attached to your characters as you are, and tears fall when something tragic happens to his beloved children.
He never really thought history was that important until he met you. He was in the camp of “it’s all in the past anyway” and now he’s convinced that you can learn from it (which is true). He loves it when you start talking history to him, and if you’re like me and you ramble, he could listen for a while, but eventually, he’ll just stop paying attention and just listen to your voice, which may or may not put him to sleep sometimes. But he swears he’s interested in what you’re saying. He’s just tired and loves the sound of your voice.
Lance will literally do anything to make you feel appreciated, especially because he knows the feeling, and holy crap, he knows how badly that hurts. Whether it’s by some form of affection, normally a kiss on the forehead, or words of affirmation, Lance will make sure that you know that whatever you do gets noticed, even if only by him. And he will do anything it takes to make you feel more loved and appreciated around there, because you already do so much.
People can be too nice? Lance doesn’t exactly get it, because he’s like that for the most part anyway. The others need to tell you two to stop being so nice, and think about yourselves for a change (although you more, because Lance still acts pretty egotistical sometimes). You two are constantly doing things for others to the point where it makes them feel guilty. And for a while, the others plan to steal you away from Lance because it looks like you’re spoiling him too much. But if you honestly just tell them that you enjoy doing it and that Lance also spoils you (because he will, so much, holy crap), then they’ll settle down and accept it. You will still find Pidge stealing snacks that you make for your boyfriend though.
PLEASE GIVE THIS MAN ALL THE OPTIMISM YOU CAN HE IS IN DIRE NEED. This poor honey just needs someone to cheer him up whenever he’s homesick or feeling insecure. Show him smiles and his day will automatically get better, because he will be immediately reminded that at least one good thing came out of all this: you. And you are all he needs to make his day brighter.
Honestly, this is what made me ship you and Lance together the most, because I can just see you two flirting with each other constantly before actually developing feelings for each other, and then when you do, it’s liTERALLY THE MOST AWKWARD THIGN PIDGE HAS TO LEAVE BECAUSE SHE;S LAUGHING TOO HARD. You two are actual blushing messes and you don’t even believe that the other likes you, and everyone else literally just has to breathe and just “oh my gosh can you two just get together already”. It is actually painful for Keith to watch you two be awkward little ducks around each other and honestly, he is probably the one who gets you two together because he has developed a habit of making sure you two always end up in those romantic situations, like he casually trips you so Lance can catch you in his arms, and he’s locked you two in a room together before, and one time he teams up with Shiro and makes you two pair up to scope out a planet and the two terrorize you two. It was so awkward before you two finally admitted that you liked each other, and even though most of that has died down, Pidge will never let you forget the time Lance accidentally stuck a fork up his nose because he was staring at you so much.
