bandmates pt. 9!
synopsis: coastal has there gig and the plan is in play
warnings: cussing, angst, smut
song for the chapter:
a/n: i hope everyone is enjoying this series ive been loving writing it! don't worry it's not over after this! comment to be a part of the taglist! i also made some changes in the song don't get mad!
"hey bee can we please talk?" your expression dropped, and you rolled your eyes.
"what could you possibly want to talk to me about?"
"can we just please.." ellie said defeated, you missed her so you agreed. you got up and you both went to your room you sat on your bed and ellie stood. it was silent for about a minute until she spoke up.
"i am really sorry i promise i actually am."
"for what?"
"well for-" you scoffed and raised your voice slightly.
"for calling me your friend but behind closed doors you were eating me out like there was no tomorrow? getting that girls number in front of me? cuddling with cat after not talking to me even asking if i was okay?"
"look it's not like that-" you stood up with a quickness.
"what do you mean it's not like that? every time i would ask why we haven't gone on a date you would brush it off and say you're busy but i knew damn well what you were doing all day. what is it like please fucking enlighten me ellie." you started raising your voice even more, ellie walked towards you and put her hands on the sides of your face. you pushed her away and stumbled back.
"no don't fucking touch me.'
"baby please." you shook your head as she came back towards you, she put her hands on your face again and hugged you. you had tears falling down your face, she felt so warm against you and you couldn't resist. you fell into her arms and she whispered 'i'm sorry' and 'its okay' into your ear.
"i just want you to call me baby to everyone, i want to be known as yours is that so hard ellie?" you looked up at her and felt her breathe on your lips. your stomach tensed up feeling her so close to you.
"it's not and i want the same i really do baby." she was crying at this point.
"then why don't you.." she didn't answer for a second until she asked.
"can i please kiss you." you didn't want to say yes but you nodded. she grabbed your face and kissed you, you melted into her lips and kissed her right back. she gently pushed you into your bed and you fell back crawling up the bed. you both felt desperate grabbing at each other. it didn't take long for you both to take each other's clothes off.
ellie moved so she could make her way on top of you, she kissed down your neck and moved her hand onto your mouth to silence your moans.
"don't want dina and jesse to hear." she mumbled as she was making her way down your stomach, kissing every inch of it. every kiss sent shivers down your spine. she made her way to your panty line and kissed it gently.
"can i take these off?" she whispered only for you to hear.
"yes please do." your voice was shaky, and you gasped as she grabbed the top of your panties with her teeth and slowly pulled them down. you gasped at her actions, she was going really slow almost too slow for your liking. she pulled them all the way off and lightly blew on your pussy. you moaned just from that, you were so desperate to have her tongue on you.
"please please ellie."
"what do you want baby tell me." she was lightly grazing her fingers across your stomach as she talked.
"i want your tongue on me."
"that's not how you ask."
"please els fuck."
"as you wish." she immediately started running her tongue along your clit. it felt so good, but you knew how wrong it was. you couldn't stop her even if you tried.
----
it was the day before the gig, and you had been thinking about that night. the morning after you woke up in and empty bed, you went and checked your phone to see a text message from ellie stating "im sorry." you sighed and flopped back into bed. 'what the fuck is my life' you thought.
after that night till now ellie hasn't talked to you not even a single text after that. you guys had gone to class together, practice and even the dorm, and she didn't even poke a glance at you. you felt like shit all week, this was bringing you down way too much.
currently you and dina were hanging out figuring out what to wear for the gig.
"d i don't know what to wear." you groaned as you looked through your packed closet.
"wear something that screams revenge."
"okay but i don't have anything for that...plus all my good outfits i have worn already this week and i really don't have time for laundry."
"well i think this calls for a mall trip..."
"i like the way you think." you both giggled and grabbed your bags and headed out to your car and to the mall.
it felt like one of the coming-of-age movies where they goof around and try on clothes together. you guys had bags on bags on your hands and had gone to every store imaginable.
"d i think we should get some food to treat ourselves to for this long shopping day." she nodded at you and you both walked to the food court.
"so are you nervous?" you looked at her confused.
"for what?" she giggled as you answered with food in your mouth.
"for tomorrow night..."
"OOHHH, i mean a little but i feel pretty confident."
"how do you think ellie will react?"
"i really don't care what she thinks she's treated me like shit."
"i mean valid but do you really not care?" you stopped eating for a second and really thought about it. of course you cared, but she has treated you like shit and you wanted this to hurt her. on the other hand you felt like shit for doing this to her, what if she hates you after this, even worse hates dina and jesse for doing this.
"no of course not." you shook your head.
"y/n i know how you feel about this, it's okay to talk to me, but if you really don't want to that's okay." she grabbed your hand, and you smiled up at her. you nodded your head and you two got back to eating.
----
it was the day of the gig, and you were nervous beyond belief. your hands were sweaty, you've had to reapply your makeup multiple times because of how shaky your hands were. dina has come into your room multiple times to check on you and talk you down. ellie wasn't in the dorm all day it made you nervous thinking she would just dip and not tell anyone. she had turned her location off so you couldn't check, until you saw her walk into the room with cat of all people. what the fuck. you groaned loud enough for them both to hear and got up. as you were walking out you heard cat mumble.
"what the fuck is up with her?" you stopped in your tracks just outside of the door and restrained yourself from attacking her. you walked over to jesse and dina's room to get out of that hell scape.
"fucking cat is here are you kidding me?" you groaned as you closed the door.
"what?!" both said at the same time.
"yeah why the fuck is ellie still hanging out with her?"
"literally no clue."
"do you want me to beat her up yet?" jesse said as you rolled your eyes and ran your hands down your face, already feeling a headache coming on. you felt even more inclined to do this, you felt the anger bowling in your body, and you felt ready to get on stage.
"hey you guys are on in 10." the stage manager came to tell us; you stood up from the couch and reached out to grab their hands.
"i love you guys a lot."
"we love you too." you all hugged and did your small band ritual together. you went back to your dressing room to let ellie know you guys had to be on soon, you walked in and saw her and cat laughing and cuddling together. with a very blank face you let her know you guys had about 5 mins left. you grabbed your guitar and walked out staring at ellie, she had such a pathetic look on her face, and you didn't even care in the slightest. you walked over to dina and jesse by the stage and peeked out, you saw how many people were there and you gasped.
"holy shit it's full."
"hell yeah it is." jesse laughed and jumped up like and excited child. you were trying to stop your nerves from getting the best of you. as you did some more vocal warmups with dina, ellie came up from behind us.
"hey you guys ready?" you all just nodded as you were being called to come on. you guys walked out and faced the crowd, it was huge so many people came. you scanned the crowd and even found some people you knew. this is what you guys practiced hours for, this moment right here. it felt good, as they all cheered for us you looked at jesse and nodded for him to start our first song.
----
"thank you so much everyone! the energy tonight has been amazing and we couldn't have asked for a better crowd." the crowd cheered.
"unfortunately, we are reaching the end of the show this is a new song we have and hope you guys enjoy! we will be out by the front if anyone wants pictures, we love you guys so much! enjoy, good luck babe."
jesse started with the soft melody on the drums and you and dina looked at each other and started to play. you saw ellie's face drop and you smirked at her.
"its fine, its cool
you can say that we are nothing, but you know the truth
and guess i'm the fool
with her arms out like an angel through the car sunroof." you sang and looked at ellie the whole time.
"i don't want to call it off
but you don't want to call it love
you only wanna be the one that i call "baby" as the song progressed the crowd went wild. your plan was working, ellie looked pissed, she didn't know what to do.
"you can kiss a hundred girls in bars
shoot another shot, try to stop the feeling
you can say it's just the way you are
make a new excuse, another stupid reason
good luck babe, well good luck babe
you'd have to stop the world just to stop the feeling." she was looking at you with a disappointed face, clenching her jaw and trying to look like she knew what to play. you smiled at her and continued on.
"i'm cliche, who cares?
it's a sexually explicit kind of love affair
and i cry, it's not fair
i just need a little lovin' i just need a little air" you sang the chorus again and you started to feel all the emotions again, you saw how pissed ellie looked and you felt part of your world shatter. what if she doesn't want to be friends anymore. what if she hates you forever. you started to feel that lump in your throat, but you threw it back down, you couldn't cry now. as the bridge built up you started to feel angry.
"when you wake up next to her in the middle of the night
with your head in your hands, you're nothing more than her wife
and when you think about me, all of those years ago
you're standing face to face with 'i told you so'
you i hate to say, i told you so
you know i hate to say but, i told you so." you belted out that note and felt so many mixed emotions. you finished off the song with the most power you have ever used during a performance, you almost blacked out. as the song ended the crowd went wild and you guys thanked them and ran off stage. you felt like you were going to faint, you walked over to a small chair by the stage and sat down trying to catch your breath.
"what the fuck was that about?!" ellie came running towards you and shouted.
"you fucking embarrassed me."
"no you embarrassed yourself ellie." you stood up from your chair.
"what the fuck is your problem?" she was face to face with you, you could feel her breath and the heat that radiated from her body.
"what do you mean ellie?! you come back to me wanting to work things out, you fuck me and then leave me before morning hits and all you can say is 'i'm sorry' what do you think my problem is?!"
"you're unbelievable." she scoffed and rubbed her hands down her face.
"i'm unbelievable?" you scoffed back at her.
"yes making a fucking song about private issues and not letting me know? i looked like a fool out there."
"that's how you've made me feel ellie, like a damn fool. waiting for you to call me to go out or to make it official, the nights we have had together doing unexplainable things to each other just for you to flirt with other girls and especially bring cat of all people around me."
"don't bring cat into this!"
"oh i will, because do you know how that feels? how it feels to be with you the night before and for you to bring cat around the next day to cuddle and kiss when your lips were on mine just before?! i have been so in love with you for so long ellie, our whole lives. i've cried more than i have ever in the past couple of months and it's all because of you ellie. so good luck with everything i am so done with you, i quit whatever we had." you started to walk away before you turned back.
"oh and you can find another singer for the band, i'm done. i don't ever want to see you again ellie williams." you turned around and ran past a yelling dina. you were sobbing as you grabbed your things, you tried to move quickly before anyone could see you. you ran out the back and through the alley way. you started to make your way to where your car was parked. when you made it into your car you didn't give yourself any time before hunching over and crying. the night running through your mind, you didn't know how you'd recover from this.

YANDERE OVERHAUL HEADCANONS
He'd be attracted to people who don't have that 'sick disease' also known as a quirk. He'd want someone who's pure and clean and the minute he sees you and your quirkless form, he thinks you're an innocent naive helpless little darling that he NEEDS to protect since the pro heroes suck at doing their job
The idea of him keeping you locked away and isolating you from the rest of the world so you can rely ONLY on him for everything is really tempting and appealing to him (Sadistic prick)
If you had a really strong and useful quirk, he'd still be attracted to you though. Just, he'll make sure to get rid of it and rob you of it by stealing it so he won't have to see you 'suffer'. And THEN, he might lock you up and leave you in isolation
If you're someone he decided to protect from everyone else, oh man... I PRAY for ya. He'll try befriending you and worming his way into you life and pretty soon, he'll ask you to come live with him. You agree but when you start rebelling against him, you'll be restricted from using your favorite things and lose your freedom
He thinks that he'd doing everything for the sake of your 'best interests' and to be honest, he knows more about you than anyone, even YOURSELF, considering the amount of time he spent stalking you and asking his men to keep an eye on you. He's like a doctor, but a really creepy and short tempered one. He'll give you regular checkups so expect constant fussing by him over you since he thinks proper health, nutrition and hygiene are a TOP priority
If you're behaving well, you'll get all sorts of things you want but you'll have to EARN them by gaining his trust and behave good around him since there's only so much fun one can have when they sit and stare at a wall for 24 hours everyday
The WORST thing this sicko might do is try convincing you in his sick and twisted way that he's NOT treating you bad. And after a while, you'll fall into his trap and web of lies and you'll start believing him and start feeling guilty if you misbehave around him. Damn does this dude know how to pull out an UNO Manipulation card
Punishments are simple if you try escaping or behaving badly. If you yell and scream at him and throw insults at him, he'll just ban you from using your favorite things and it'll be a really LOOONNGGG time after you get them back. You won't be getting them back till you apologize and admit that you were in the wrong. If you manage to hit him or kick him, you'll be denied of his attention for a while even after you cry out an apology
He isn't going to punish you physically but his punishments can take a really HUGE toll on your mental health and state of mind and so.... like I said, for the sake of your sanity just don't argue with Bird Face and agree to everything he says
If you manage to attack him with a weapon (One, HOW TF did you manage to do THAT!? And 2, that's actually way cool Hehehe.... okay, I sound like an evil twin of Sangwoo,imma stop nowTvT) , you'll be isolated in a room with white walls and he'll only come by to give you your meals and THAT'S IT. No screen time, no favorite things, nothing. He'll isolate you till you're practically BEGGING him for forgiveness
This dude ain't a Romeo so don't expect him to be all lovey-dovey with you. But occasionally when he feels like it, he might hold you and hug you from time to time and say how glad he is to have found you, his little pure angel to care for and protect. Who KNOWS what would have happened to you by now if you didn't come under his care?
He'll let you roam around the backyard ONLY (Not without you having at least a dozen of heavily armed bodyguards keeping a close eye on you) and if you still complain, he's gonna make sure you're grateful for letting you at least step out of the house
He'll let you look after Eri and Eri just ADORES you. She sees you as a parental figure and I won't be surprised if she develops platonic yandere tendencies and feelings towards you. She'll be sad and pouting when you won't focus your attention and honestly, WHO can resist her CUTE adorable little face? I sure as heck can't....
So... Mr Bird Mask is really SCARY yandere who can haunt you in your dreams and become your WORST nightmare unless you abide by his rules and laws. And THAT children, is today's moral of the story UvU
"Angel.... I'm doing this for YOU now it's time for your daily checkup. Don't be a brat, I only want what's best for you~"

I am free -Fezco
Warnings: Abusive boyfriend(Nate Jacobs), angst, cheating, not proof-read
Summary: It was raining heavily and you got to Fez store. He welcomes you with open arms, not like Ash. You think a lot about your relationship and decide to do the right thing.
A.N; First time writing about Fez. Not the best, but I promise I will do better next time, at least I will try;)
Your parents always had something against Nate. Maddy was one of your closest friends, and they often heard her crying over Nate, so they didn't want you to go through the same shit.
However, you were happy with Nate. Yes, there were a few moments where you were a little scared of him, but he made it up to you every time.
People called it toxic, but for you, it felt like heaven. Maddy, Rue, and all the others had warned you about Nate and his violent behaviour, but you didn't listen to them.
It was like Nate had brainwashed you the last few months of your relationship. You stopped spending time with your friends, didn't come home often anymore, never went anywhere without Nate.
For you, it was love. For others, it was sick.
Your appearance also started to change. You often wore short clothes, wore strong make-up, had some bruises here and there. But nothing of that let you love Nate less.
He, on the other hand, knew exactly what he was doing and was enjoying that you were so fragile. You did everything he asked you to do. When he wanted to fuck you, you would let him even if you weren't in the mood. If he wanted you to wear something that wasn't your style, you would do it anyway, just to satisfy him.
----
"Nate? Where are you?" You asked through the phone.
It was cold, raining for hours, and you were standing next to an old bus station, waiting for your boyfriend to pick you up for already an hour. Your day wasn't the best, and all you wanted was to be with Nate now.
"I am quite busy right now." He says with heavy breaths. In the background, you heard a quiet giggle, followed by moans.
"Oh, don't worry, I will just walk home. Love yo-" You were interrupted by him hanging up.
You were aware of the fact that he was cheating on you at this very moment. A tear ran down your cheek, but you wiped it away quickly. You loved Nate with every piece of your heart, but you were willing to let him go when that was what he wanted.
You didn't want to walk, but that was all you could do to get home.
After a few minutes your clothes were soaked, your hair was a mess, and your make-up ran down your face. Your feet also hurt, and you decided it would be better to get to some store, where you can wait for the rain to stop.
You looked around, seeing the gas station Fez worked at. Rue once introduced him to you, but since Nate and he didn't really get along, you never talked to him again.
You quickly made your way into the store, hoping that Fez wouldn't kick you out immediately.
Instead of the ginger, you were greeted by his brother Ash, well you supposed it was him. You never saw him in person, but Rue had told you some stories about him.
"You want to buy somethin' or you just staring at me?" The boy asked you a bit rudely.
"Could you maybe tell Fezco that Y/N is here? He will know who I am." You replied, still shaking because of the cold.
He rolled his eyes but left for a few seconds before he came back with his older brother. "Whatcha doin' here?" Fezco asked you, a bit confused.
"Nate didn't pick me up like I thought he would, so I had to walk. I am all wet, and my feet hurt. I wanted to ask if I can wait here till the rain is over." You mumbled, visibly embarrassed.
Fezco was known for his kindness and would have never told you to leave. He also knew about Nate abusing you and tried his best to warn you but you never listened.
"Get some blankets." He told Ash, which he didn't question, even if he wanted to.
Fez and you were left alone. You didn't know what to say, and also Fezco was tongue-tied. He wanted to ask you a lot of things, but he didn't want to make you uncomfortable.
When Ash came back with two blankets, Fezco quickly took them and wrapped them around you.
He carefully laid one of his hands on your lower back and guided you to the back of the store. Ash followed the two of you, slightly confused why his brother even allowed Nate Jacobs' girlfriend to stay here.
"So, Nate's girlfriend. Care to explain whatcha doin' here?" Ash asked after you sat down on the sofa.
"I already told you-" You started but got interrupted by him.
"Please, cut the bullshit and tell us why you came here when you could have gone somewhere else to warm up." He said coldly. He never liked it when people took advantage of Fez.
You let out a sigh, "Rue introduced me to Fezco once, and I actually like him, but Nate didn't want me to talk to him, so I never did. He didn't pick me up because he was too busy fucking around, and I just happened to come here."
"Oh, so you want my bro to be a replacement for him?" He hissed, whereupon Fez glared at him.
You quickly shook your head, "No, I swear on my life that wasn't my plan. I really just needed a place to warm up and wait for the rain to stop. Fezco is a nice guy, but I am still in a relationship with Nate."
"Leave her alone, bro. It's not Y/N's fault, her boyfriend is an abusive asshole." Fez interfered, being uncomfortable with the whole situation.
"I think we will break up soon. I mean, Nate clearly isn't in love with me anymore. Even if I love him, I want to make him happy. If breaking up makes him happy, then I am okay with it." You mumbled and looked down, fiddling with your fingers.
The brothers shared a look before Fezco spoke up again, "You're a good person according to what you just said. Dump that asshole and find yourself someone else.
You gave him a small smile, quietly thanking him. In the corner of your eye, you saw how Ash rolled his eyes, which made you a bit sad, but it was also understandable.
The rest of the time, it was quiet. You looked out of the window, watching how the rain poured down the sky. Slowly your thoughts wandered back to Nate again, but they quickly got interrupted by someone entering the store.
Ash got up, glancing at you, and walked back to the front of the store.
Faz cleared his throat before he started to speak, "Sorry for him. He just doesn't like Nate, neither do I."
You understood him. Nate wasn't fun to be around when you weren't close to him. The more you thought about it, the more you noticed that Nate had a bad influence on you.
Maybe they were all right, and he really was toxic and sick.
You took out your phone and looked at it for a few minutes blankly. You took a deep breath before blocking Nate everywhere.
Fezco looked at you, surprised, since he saw everything, but didn't say anything.
You closed your eyes, a tear slipping out before you opened them again with a small smile, "I am free."
Fez chuckled and nodded, "I'm proud of you, and I'm sure you'll find someone else soon. I mean you're hot, smart, pretty, and so much more."
You turned your head to him and gave him a soft smile, "I already have someone else in mind."
The both of you looked at each other, no one daring to lean in. When Fez finally wanted to make his move, he got interrupted by his little brother gaging.
"Shit, not Jacobs' girl." He muttered under his breath.
You blushed and quickly stood up, not wanting to look at Fez.
"I am sorry, Ashtray. Nate did awful things, but I understand that now. I think your brother isn't mad at me, and I hope one day we two also can be friends." You smiled down at him before placing the blankets on the sofa.
After one last glance at Fezco, you hurried out of the store. It was still raining, but you finally felt alive again.

ꜱ/ᴏ ʙᴇɪɴɢ ᴄʟɪɴɢʏ
characters: satoru, itadori, megumi, toji, nanamin, sukuna.
warnings: it's not an angst, but it has triggers because they screamed at you :( [toji and sukuna parts bc yall know those man] + grammar issues. [aged up?]
butler's remark: it was hard to write yuuji, megumi and gojou parts bc they are good and sweet boys and i practically cry. i also had decided to do as a hdc not in the fake text. i did a reader with a strong character.
apologies part.
ɪᴛᴀᴅᴏʀɪ ʏᴜᴜᴊɪ:
pls no. i can't even imagine that yuuji would scream to you or say you're bothering him.
but, okay, that's why you're reading this.
you just wanted a piece, a little bit, some, of yuuji's attention while he was training.
you came to him from behind, wrapping hands around his neck.
you were happy to finally see and hug your boyfriend, planning to spend an evening watching some tv-shows.
suddenly, yuuji turned to you, and instead of the usual: 'sweetie, i'm so happy to see you let's watch the tv or eat ramen!'
he answered: 'i'm busy, y/n, let's talk later.'
being busy by doing something is totally normal.
but he could at least said you not cold as that. he turned around his body, continuing to do the same thing.
'but i missed you, yuuujiii~' you stretched out [?] his name in a smile, clinging to his shoulders again.
'can you not being clingy y/n, i'm trying to train. give me some space, you're starting to annoy me!'
you were standing there with doe eyes - he had never screamed at you.
'yeah? whatever, itadori. i'm gonna cuddle with megumi-kun, good training.'
you left the room with tears in the corner of your eyes. you'll give the space that yuuji had mentioned - you won't be talking with him for some days or weeks, therefore he'll know he should watch his mouth. [to follow what he says]
ꜰᴜꜱʜɪɢᴜʀᴏ ᴍᴇɢᴜᴍɪ:
he came back to the dorm late after training with satoru.
you, being the lovely girlfriend ever, wanted to help megumi: you filled the bathtub with water, made delicious dinner, and find a good movie to watch after bath. maybe, it isn't a romantic thing, but it'll help him to release the tension in the muscle.
'megumi, you finally here!' you had green your boyfriend with a warm hug, as you always do, cupped his face to kiss him.
you were about to give a kiss, when 'gumi intercepted your hands, looking at you tiredly.
'how was the train? you must be tired, that's why i made for you bath and dinner.'
you walked into the living room as you heard him muttering.
'you always being so annoying and so mommy [i mean, hyper custody], i am not a child, y/n, i can help myself.'
'gomen-gomen, megumi, i just wanted to help you relax.'
'stop being like that! that's annoying, i'll take a bath alone, without you.'
you saw bruises and abrasions on his face - he must be angry about that. you have known how megumi hates to be beaten gojou or todou.
you decided not to answer, only waiting till his fury will calm down and he will apologize.
ꜰᴜꜱʜɪɢᴜʀᴏ ᴛᴏᴊɪ:
i want to confess right away - i'm already afraid of him.
toji should be about to return home from a mission any minute now.
you had baked apple pie and made dinner, anticipating for your husband to arrive.
you only overheard heavy footsteps in the living room, immediately run to see him.
'my love, you back home.' you were about to kiss him, when he turned his head, pronouncing:
'don't touch me.'
his obnoxious nature. over the years of living with him you have taught him to be more gentle with you.
'use better words, toji.'
'i will talk to you as i want, woman. the fact you are my wife doesn't mean i'll be docile.'
'don't talk to me like that, i'm yo-'
'shut up, you're just a wife who comes when i need her. don't exalt yourself. don't be clingy.'
notwithstanding your strong character, tears start to roll down on cheeks.
'i have no intention of being your servant, toji. find another 'wife', i'm leaving.'
ɢᴏᴊᴏ ꜱᴀᴛᴏʀᴜ:
as you know, gojou satoru is a playful guy, who wants to tease you like 24/7.
you never thought that gojou would scream at you due to you being clingy. it happened, tho.
you are basically just like him, naughty and agile, waiting for him after work so you could take gojou in your arms and kiss him.
when you heard as the door opened, you ran to hug him. however, when you were anticipating to him to do the same, he uttered: 'let go of me.'
you thought he wanted to hug you first, so you've wrapped your arms around your neck tighter.
'did i not make myself clear? get off me. you being so clingy and intrusive.'
'i missed you, 'toru.'
'we see each other every single day, let me spend a few days alone, don't act like a child, stop being sticky'
when you heard the last word, you get off your boyfriend, watching as he slowly walking into the living room, not look at you.
'a few days alone? fine, gojo, whatever. all you want, i'm leaving.'
you grabbed your phone, leaving the house.
ɴᴀɴᴀᴍɪ ᴋᴇɴᴛᴏ:
you had mentioned that you might be clingy or sticky, demanding a lot of attention, when you on the period.
he agreed, laughed at your words. 'i always be with you anywhen, angel.'
as silly as it may sound, you wrapped your arms on a pillow, which was smelling like him, imagining it was kento.
you heard as a door opened, cheerfully coming down to greet your boyfriend.
'welcome home, darling, i was waiting for you to have some.. cuddles!' you straighten arms on him, expecting kento hugs you.
'it seems as you need me only for that, y/n.'
'no, darling, of course not. how was your day? tell me while we're gonna have a bath.'
'that's what i'm talking about. can it be only one day when you stop being sticky like that? i'm tired from work i want to be alone.'
you were speechless. you mumbled something illegible, step backward.
'y-yeah, s-sure..'
you walk in the bathroom, hiding your tears from him. as soon as you found yourself in the room, you sob.
'he just tired. i-i won't cry.'
you let your boyfriend spend an evening on his own, trying not to cry.
ꜱᴜᴋᴜɴᴀ ʀʏᴏᴍᴇɴ:
disclaimer: the king was really mad today, exactly today when you wanted to cuddle him.
you came to his domain, happy and shine like the sun - you've moved up in the ranks, isn't that a success?
you baked muffins, the kind that the king likes - with chocolate, and garnished with nuts on top. [it's only my opinion]
so, when you stood in front of a pile of skulls, sukuna unexpectedly said: 'you should leave. now.'
'huh?' you turned your head on the left, in a curious gesture, waiting for him to explain.
you did a step forward, thought you misunderstood him.
he didn't even look at you, sitting on the throne like you ain't here like you're sort of a slave, not a girlfriend.
'i've got so good news, sukuna. the first i had baked muff-'
before you could've finished the sentence, he used cursed energy to stop you, knocking the treats out of your hands.
'i fucking said you to leave my domain, woman. are you that stupid? and stop being clingy, it's irritating me.'
you knew his nature, you knew he might indicate something offensive, but, that one - above hurtful.
'what's wrong, the king?' you said his position mockingly, going down the skulls, looking at his back. 'go to hell, i'll tell it itadori. be here alone, sukuna.'
well, shall i do a part two with apologies? also sorry for kinda sad post.
[?] - pls corrent me if i used the wrong word.

hm… maybe a giant naga!techno finding and nomming a tiny avian!tommy, perhaps? — 🎲
//Listen. I like adding a littol angst. :)
//This is a combo of this ask & another one I got.
//Also, it's been more than a month since I've written something so, uh, oops? Might be a little fast-paced?
// ~3,417 words
// Heavily unedited
----
Run.
Runrunrunrunrun-
Tommy heaved as he flew through the forest, his wings beating against the air faster than he's ever flown, his sole thought being about how to get the fuck out of this forest. He knew he had stayed in one place for too long, and yet, he clung to the idea that he would be safe from his pursuers.
He should have known that even a protected forest couldn't stop them- of course they would find a way to go after him. He was eternally bound to them, against his will till death do him part.
Hell. Maybe even past death.
(He shuddered at the thought of being enslaved for... forever.)
And yet he had gotten comfortable- making his own home and making friends with the surrounding critters. He had loosened up, became weak from the lack of their presence.
Stupid. Stupid, he was so fucking stupid.
A loud, petrified scream ripped from his throat as an arrow passed him and tore him out of his thoughts, the projectile barely just nicking his disarrayed feathers. Fuck. His breath caught in his throat as he felt his weakened wings seize up, every muscle freezing up, and he fell.
A paralytic arrow.
Fuck- fuck, no, no, no-
He desperately tried to make his wings move as he floated down like a feather.
(For once in his life, Tommy was both relieved and not for being an avian; his biology saving him from death and yet doing the opposite at the same time.)
Primes, he was so screwed. He couldn't move, stuck floating down to the floor and ready to be served to his enemy on a silver platter. He'd have to go back to his imprisonment, and there would be no chance for him to ever escape.
His breath hitched at the sound of rustling as he dropped to the ground a few minutes later, and he squeezed his eyes shut with bated breath, unable to even instinctively curl up on himself.
As he waited for the sound of shrill laughter, his eyes shot open as he heard a low hiss instead, and he almost cried in relief at the familiar sound.
"T-Tec..Techno?" he croaked out, craning his eyes to look at the corners of his vision to get a glimpse at the dull, red scales that covered the naga's lower half.
"Tommy?" a low rumble replied as he saw the pink-haired man come into view.
Gods, he might actually cry in relief.
Wait.
Techno was here.
Which meant if they were to find him right now, Techno would be fucked. Techno, who is good. Techno who's always been there to help and protect.
His breath hitched again. He needed to get both of them out of here.
"H..hey big man," he strained out a smile (that came out more like a grimace), "care to help a little? I'm, ah, a bit paralyzed at the moment."
"What happened?" Techno asked, sounding almost worried. He internally scoffed at that; Techno couldn't ever sound worried with his monotonous voice- no less be worried over him.
"Woah, what's that I hear? You better be careful, else I'm going to start thinking you care, Technoblade," he tried cracking a joke, which must have not landed well, seeing that the naga let out a strangled, choked noise as they reached down and picked him up.
"Tommy. What ha-"
"Horrible weather we're having here, innit?" he cut in nervously, "we should probably leave before-"
"Tommy."
"-before it starts pouring rain on us, eh? Don't w-wanna soak that long hair of yours-"
"Tommy."
He winced.
"Yeah?"
"What happened."
"Got in a fight with a raccoon. We should go find it, and maybe you could-"
"How are you paralyzed?" the naga asked with a tight voice, ignoring his rambling attempts to make them move.
He gulped shakily, "uh... I... touched a plant that left me paralyzed?"
"I saw you floating down."
So they didn't see the arrow that almost hit him. He almost sighed in relief.
"Y...yeah well, it was one of the tree leaves."
"Tommy please," the pinkette stressed, "what really happened?"
He nervously bit his lip, averting his gaze from the red, piercing naga's eyes.
Logically, he knew he could trust the naga with anything. Time and time again, they've proven to be trustworthy- enough for him to call them a friend. He's spent enough time with the pinkette to consider them a friend.
Which is why he said, "we need to move," instead.
He doesn't need to burden his friend with the knowledge that he's being hunted down- doesn't need to burden them with being associated with him.
"Tomm-"
"Techno please," he insisted, "I-I'll tell you later- I just, we need to go."
Techno stares at him for a moment longer, and he's worried that the naga might just keep arguing with him.
".......Fine," he stressfully breathes as the naga starts to slither away.
"Faster."
"Primes, why do I have to go-"
"Techno."
The naga shoots him a look that's both worried and annoyed, but they speed up considerably anyways.
"Gods, it's almost like you're worried about being caught by a damned hunter," the naga snorts, and Tommy's breath stops for a moment at how right they are.
Because he's been hunted down all his life for being different than everyone else, and he's never truly realized that until he wasn't. Until he was able to get the taste of being safe. The feeling was so intoxicating that he was blinded to the signs of being hunted down again. (And yet, he yearns for the ignorance it brings still.)
Clearly, he's been silent for too long, and the naga's red gaze flickers down at him in concern. He must have somehow communicated something through his expression because the naga's eyes widen as if they've realized something, "holy shit, you're-"
His heart stops, but he scowls, "Shut up."
"Tommy-"
"Shut up." The naga's jaw shuts with an audible click. Primes, there's no use hiding it anymore, "keep moving. T-the paralysis should wear off any moment, a-and I'll be able to leave, okay? You don't have to worry about being an accomplice."
"That's not-"
"It's okay," he cuts them off, "I- they won't know that you help if you leave right away. I've been doing this for a wh-"
"Tommy," the naga firmly speaks, making him shut up, "that's- I'm not going to let you go run off," what? "I ca-"
The naga is cut off at the sound of another voice, and Tommy pales.
"Well. Long time no see, Technoblade."
A quiet, anxious keen threatens to warble out of his throat as the naga turns to face the voice.
"Dream." Techno curtly greets.
Tommy feels like he's going to throw up.
"Y...you know each.. each other?" he meekly whimpered out.
Techno looks down at him with a distraught look, their mouth opened slightly as if words were supposed to come out of it.
Dream beats the naga to it, replacing the pinkette's mute words with their own, "yeah, I've known him for a while. We're close acquaintances, really. Quite lucky that he was able to find you, isn't it, Tommy?"
By Primes. Techno knew Dream. They were- Primes, he was played like a fucking fiddle, wasn't he? Techno was helping Dream, weren't they? Of course they were- how else would they be able to find him right after the arrow was shot?
He gulps, staring at Techno in betrayal and yet hoping that it was a lie all the same. (Because, how could Techno- who is good- know Dream- the bad? How could his friend know hi- his owner without also being bad?)
His face drained of colour as the naga made no noise to refute the hunter's words.
Gods.
He only knew how to find ways to make himself hurt, didn't he?
Someone he thought he could trust, and yet here he was, regretting his choices.
He blinked away tears as he thought of the 'good' times they had together.
("TOMMY!" Techno hollered from the ground, holding their now mud-filled hair away from them. Tommy cackled loudly as he fluttered in the sky, just out of the naga's reach, "I'm going to strangle you-"
"Good luck," he shouted with a grin, tauntingly flipping the naga off, "you can't even reach me, bitch."
"I don't need fucking reach when I have vengeance," the naga snarled, making a grab for him and failing to catch him. His heart raced a little in panic at the grab, but he pushed it aside with another laugh.
"You missed~" he taunted, lazily circling them with a smirk. Hissing loudly, Techno gave him the most murderous look ever- that would terrify the fuck out of anyone without a death wish. Thankfully, Tommy had a death wish.
"Tommy, do you know how long this is going to take to clean out?" the naga cried out, already trying to wring out some of the mud.
"Oh quit your bitching," he laughed, "it already takes you hours to clean it anyway, what's a few more?"
Maybe taunting a pissed-off naga wasn't the smartest idea, but he couldn't care less, especially with how rewarding it was to see the usually stoic man completely in ruins. Though... maybe he should have waited a little longer to throw another taunt at them, because a second later, he screamed as the naga launched themselves off of the ground, grabbing him from the air.
They both fell to the ground with a thump, Tommy thankfully shielded by Techno's chest as they fell.
"What the fuck-?" Tommy screeched, flailing around in the grip, "you're insane!"
Techno grumbled slightly, getting up with a wince as they loosened their grip on him, "yeah, yeah, fuck off, you hair-ruining gremlin child. You're so helping me with getting this gunk out," they spoke, completely brushing off the fact that they somehow launched themselves from the ground.
Tommy sputtered, unable to come up with a reply.)
(Tommy yawned slightly as he rested against Techno's snake tail, curling his wings around himself to preserve heat. After a day of hanging out with the naga, he was surely tired out. Especially after having to help clean up another one of his pranks.
Clearly hearing his yawn, the naga dropped a hand next to his curled-up position, and he crawled onto the slightly warmer palm, sprawling out on the squishy surface as he was lifted up into the air.
"Tired?" Techno asked, already knowing the answer. Tommy chirped out an incoherent noise alongside a whine, and that was all Techno needed to cup the kid close to his chest.
"Bitch," he mumbled out. Techno snorted. "I don't... need yer fuckin' stupid.. warmth."
"Sure, sure, you don't," Techno agreed with a hum, "and yet here it is anyway."
Tommy huffed but said nothing, choosing to snuggle into the warmth- only because it was there. Not because of anything else.
"Pompous.. piece of shit," he scowled, closing his eyes as he clung to the naga's shirt, "bet you'd wear those poet shirts all day if given the chance."
"Maybe I would," Techno drawled, "and you'd wear the same damned shirt every day if you could."
Tommy barely mustered up the energy to hit the pinkette's chest, the motion coming out like a light slap instead. The naga snickered and brought a finger to his back, gently rubbing circled onto his back.
He practically melted into the touch, keening softly at the massage as the finger drifted over to delicately scratch his wings. He let out a whine of annoyance as he became a puddle against the naga's chest, crooning quietly at the pleasing feeling. A low, rolling purr, was the only response to his whine besides the amused chuff.
He hoped Techno knew how much of a bitch they were being as he drifted to a peaceful sleep.)
"Y.....you knew all along?" he whispered; Techno's eyes widen.
"Wha- knew what?" they shakily whispered back, furrowing their eyebrows.
Tommy doesn't know if Techno is faking being confused. It doesn't make sense if he was but he doesn't know a lot of things at the moment, seeing that Techno knew Dream. Which had to mean something.
"Techno," the hunter cuts back into the conversation before Tommy can form words, "mind giving back what's rightfully mine?"
Tommy warbles fearfully, unable to even crane his neck to look at the green bastard, and Techno sharply breathes in, glancing over at them.
He shuts his eyes and waits.
He waits for the naga to slither over to Dream, waits for his paralyzed body to be handed off, waits for the tight grip of his owner's hands to wrap around him.
....And he waits.
Peering an eye open, he sees Techno staring down at him with an unreadable expression. Typical of the man really, and yet now he's terrified of that. Because now, he doesn't know what they're thinking or, more likely, planning.
"Techno?" Dream's expecting voice calls out, breaking the naga out of their trance-like state.
"Dream," Techno speaks slowly, "I don't think I'll be doing that."
Tommy's breath hitches. What?
"What?" Dream echoes his thoughts.
What did Techno mean by-?
Techno looks up at Dream, "you heard me."
Well, now he's just confused.
"Techno, surel-"
"You heard me," the naga repeats in a firmer voice, holding Tommy in an equally firm grip as they bring him to their chest, "don't make me repeat myself again."
"Wh- you think I'm just going to leave? Techno, you- I've been chasing after that rascal," Tommy whimpers, "for so long-"
"Dream," Techno's voice is filled with a rumbling power as he speaks, "do not argue with this."
Tommy would have shuddered if he could; Techno was talking back to Dream like it was nothing- like he wasn't afraid of the masked man's wrath.
(He shudders at the phantom pains that crawl under his skin.)
Dream does not speak for a minute and that makes him undoubtedly anxious as he waits for something.
"Techno," he freezes at the chilling tone as he hears the shing of an unsheathing weapon, "I can't do that."
Techno merely tilts his head as if the weapon was nothing to be concerned about, "unfortunate. I was hoping we could keep this civil."
Why isn't Techno just handing him over? It would be so much easier for the naga. A-And what does he mean by keeping it civil?
"We can keep this civil if you just give me the kid."
He whimpers again as the naga's piercing gaze lands back on him, something different in that red gaze of theirs, and his breath stutters as... he's raised closer to Techno's face...?
"Well, that's going to be a bit hard, 'cause you're going to need to pry him from my cold, dead body," the naga drawls, and there's clearly something Dream knows that he doesn't because they shout,
"Don't you dare-"
"Too late," they wryly grin, and Tommy's heart drops as he watches the naga's mouth open with him right in front of it.
Why-?
"T-Techno?" he squeaked, "Techno what ar-" he shrieks as he's stuffed headfirst into the mouth.
What the fuck.
He doesn't even get a chance to think as he's thrown into the mouth, and a soaking wet tongue attacks him. Everything is moving too fast and it feels like he's watching everything at 2x speed. He pressures his limbs to move but they're still limp like a toy doll, unable to do anything as the tongue pushes him around.
What was Techno doing? He- surely he wouldn't just- why?
He feels like his thoughts are going to melt out of his brain, but he can't focus on them when he's currently in a mouth, being nudged to the back of the wet cavern.
"Techno-" he shrieks, feeling his surroundings tilt up as he slides closer to the throat, "pleas-" He doesn't get to finish his plea, feeling his surroundings squish around him and pull. With a scream, he's dragged into the naga's throat- and Primes, this might be an even worse death than anything else.
The crushing feeling lasts longer than he wants, even though it's only been a few seconds because it kneads at his powerless form, pushing against his skin and feathers uncomfortably. Faintly, he can feel something drip down his face, and he can't discern if it's saliva or his tears- hell, why does it matter either way?
Tommy sharply breaths in as the tight feeling around his body disappears, and he drops into a slightly larger area- only for it to shrink closer to him like some sickening hug.
"TECHNO!" he screams, tears definitely streaming down his face now, "LET ME OUT!"
He screeches as his surroundings shudder around him, and a low purr starts up. His eyes drip tears with terror at the sound that was once comforting, it now only serving to make his heart clench.
He's nothing more than a snack now, isn't he?
Techno has already moved on, ignoring his shouts as they converse with Dream. He's clearly forgotten, like any snack.
From inside the stomach, it's a one-way conversation, and he's only able to hear the rumbling voice that echos around him. He doesn't listen in though, his breaths taking up too much sound that it blocks out anything else.
Gods, he's dead now.
Not by Dream, but by Techno.
Slowly, his vision blots out into blackness as hysteria wins his mind over.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
...
.....
When Tommy passed out, he really didn't expect to wake up.
No less, outside the stomach and curled up against a chest.
So, no one can fault him for shrieking and fluttering around like a dying fish, shoving himself away from the body and onto the hard ground.
He barely processes the fact that he can move, too focused on getting away from the thing that's moving to pick him up again.
"N-NO-!" he shouts, flinching and raising a hand to protect himself, "f-fuck off- fuck off-!"
"Tommy-"
He screeches again, flapping his wings uncoordinatedly, "stay away- stay away-"
"Tommy, please! Yo- you're okay," the th... the.. naga stumbles out, and he pauses, taking in his surroundings. He's... he's home.
He's with Techno.
Techno who has never... pleaded or stumbled over their words.
Warily, he stares up at them, and... he blinks at the anxious look on the man's face.
"T....Techno?" he mumbles out, "what...?"
Was it a dream? A nightmare? He shouldn't be alive right now.
"Hey, you here with me now?" Tommy mutely nods, and Techno sighs, looking a little more relaxed, "alright. Good. You... yeah. Are you okay?"
"W...what happened?" he asks back without answering. The naga grimaces.
"You- uh," they bit their lip, and he suddenly realizes that Techno has bandages over him.
"What happened to you?" he blurts out, his mind completely frazzled.
Techno's grimace worsens, "Dream."
He feels the blood in his face drain away.
It wasn't a nightmare.
"How am I-"
"Alive?" Techno cuts in before Tommy can start rambling out more questions, "yeah, uh, it's... a naga thing. I'm sorry, I didn't tell you before."
He feels like he's still dreaming. If there is one thing he knows- knew- about Techno, it was that Techno does not apologize.
"What?" he whispers out numbly.
"I have two stomachs," Techno starts to ramble, "one with acids and one without. Y...you were in the one without it."
"Oh." He doesn't know how to respond.
"Yeah." Neither does Techno, it seems.
Thankfully (or maybe not), his first coping mechanism is humor and deflection.
"You... you gave me a right scare there, Technoblade," he manages to mumble out, "a real, right scare. T-thought I was really a goner there."
"Sorry?"
He blinks again, unable to process the naga's apology, "it- never mind. I- it.. It's fine now bec- because," he pauses, voice quietening, "D-Dre- he's gone now, right?"
Techno nods, "he's gone now. I, uh, couldn't kill him because he escaped, but... he won't be able to come back here now."
Tommy's too tired to figure out what Techno means by Dream not being able to come back, so he slumps against the floor like a puddle.
"Thank Primes."
They sit in silence for a moment, and for once, he allows it to be quiet, content with dealing with the aftermath later.
Could you talk about ravens and crows like you did with the horses? I tried to search it in here, but i didn't find anything :c If you do thank you!
When I talked about my favorite horses in ASOIAF, it was because there were actually enough horses with personalities/symbolic meaning to make a list. The same can’t be said with ASOIAF ravens, who with the exception of Jeor Mormont’s pet are never treated as individuals. As for irl ravens, I have tags for ravens and crows which include amusing stories about their behavior and intelligence. As my header indicates, they’re not one of my favorite animals, so with the exception of one raven I’m not invested in them as individuals. I’ll talk about her and why she’s come to my attention.
This is Izabella/Izzy, one of the 8 ravens tended to by Igraine Hustwitt Skelton, Her Majesty’s Keeper of Castle Ravens at Knaresborough Castle in North Yorkshire. Described by Skelton as “the raven world’s answer to a hyperactive child”, she is like a feathered Till Eulenspiegel or a less deadly Nymeria the direwolf. The other ravens used to be able to fly around without their jesses on until her delinquent behavior made jessing a requirement. While initially she would fly onto tourists’ shoulders and say “hello” to them (4 of the 5 ravens Skelton brings to the castle regularly mimic human speech, one of them in a Yorkshire accent), she became mischievous and aggressive toward the tourists, launching herself at any who would look at her. She would steal sandwiches and jelly from those unlucky enough to picnic opposite her perch. She would steal golf balls from the green, drop them in the River, and come back for more. Children would come to Skelton crying because Izzy had stolen their ball (the above photo is her being caught red-beaked after stealing a child’s pacifier). She appointed herself assistant gardener, pulling up the plants they had just planted. Annoyed that tourists would take pictures of her, she would squawk “What the f— are you looking at?” and eventually concocted elaborate schemes to steal their cameras/phones and take pictures. Skelton describes how one Saturday while she was distracted, Izzy took a plastic bottle out of the garbage, flew down to the green, lay down on the grass with her foot stuck in the bottle and started cawing; when a lady eating lunch left her seat to help, Izzy flew off…not with her lunch, but with the camera she’d also left, and then flew to the castle roof. It took 20 minutes for her to let go of the camera, and she’d taken a picture with it. Apparently she has taken selfies with her beak with others’ camera phones as well.
All of Izzy’s shenanigans have earned her an ASBO (antisocial behavior order), associated with young delinquents charged with petty theft and disturbing the peace, in 2015. She is the only bird in the area to be cited and is well known to the local police sergeant. This has only caused her fame to grow, as she has legions of fans and a Facebook page. While her thefts have died down thanks to wearing the jesses (not that that stops Izzy’s flair for drama; she lugs them around while carrying a stone as if the Jesses were a ball and chain), according to Skelton “she shows no signs that she might grow out of it.” Considering ravens can live into their 50s and Izzy is only 15 in 2022, I imagine a long future of shocking tourists is still ahead of her.
Rowaelin Month, Day Five
A/N: Yall I'm dying. I didn't even wanna write today and I kinda forced myself to and I'm not proud of myself for this but I just wanted you to have something so yep. Tomorrow's will be a lot angstier and sadder than this one, so soak up the very light fluff I'm giving you till you can
Signing off, goodnight yall
Word count: 3,614
Aelin hated the underground car park reserved for the residents of her building. It was dark, so narrow that you had to do at least a hundred swerves to avoid taking any corner and scratching off half your car, and it was impossible to find a spot when everyone came home in the evening after hours and hours in the office and parked as they saw fit while still thinking about the thousands of pieces of paperwork that would be waiting for them at their desks only nine hours later, sometimes taking up more than two spots at once.
The only reason she still tried to park down there was that there was a flock of pigeons in the trees just outside their block of flats, on the main road, which had made a nasty habit of shitting on anything - or anyone, on some unpleasant occasion - that stopped for more than five minutes under the thick branches. A perfect hiding place for birds, that no one had thought to warn her about when she had moved in only a few months earlier.
She had deemed herself lucky the night before, when she had returned before anyone else and found the lot completely empty. She'd been so happy that she'd driven around a bit down there just for the hell of it. She'd pulled up next to the exit, thinking it would be easier to get out the next morning.
She hadn't anticipated the three assholes who had parked so as to block her path in every conceivable way.
She grunted, banging her fist against the steering wheel when she realised she still wasn't clear, and put the car into reverse for the twelfth time, before changing gear and driving three inches forward. And so on, and on, and on, until she managed to steer the face of the car towards the exit and let out a satisfied howl.
She started up the slope towards the road, taking her eyes off the driveway and distracting herself for a moment to choose which radio to listen to, when the car hit something and the dull sound of the bang echoed throughout her body, propelling her forward.
Aelin squealed, hitting the brakes hard enough to cause a high-pitched squeal, and soon the smell of burnt plastic filled her nostrils.
The car shut off and she pulled the handbrake vehemently, getting out of the car and trying to figure out which wall she had hit, already cursing every deity that had ever existed. She didn't have enough money to afford a repair, and she knew perfectly well that the dent would be there for months before she let any of her friends help her.
She wrinkled her brow, noticing how no side of the car was touching walls or columns.
"What the..."
And then she heard it, a grunt of pain.
She opened her eyes wide, running around the car and finding a man on the ground.
To the view of a head full of stark white hair, the fear she’d just ran over one of the oldies that lived on her floor stuck her. But then the person got up on their elbows and she let go of a sigh of relief.
But still, she had just runapartment someone over. She hurried his way.
"Oh, fuck." said Aelin, approaching the stranger. The man pulled himself up to sit, bringing a hand to his face, on his cheek, where a cut was bleeding profusely on his shirt.
"Holy shit." muttered the guy, looking up at her, "That hurt."
Aelin was frozen in time, her hands to her gaping mouth, looking for the right words.
When he tried to stand, swaying a little, she pushed through the fog in her mind and truly looked at him, searching other injuries, but not failing to notice his sheer handsomeness.
The man looked like he’d been made in heaven.
She shook her head, mentally reprimanding herself – now was not the time – and started talking.
“I’m so so so sorry. I didn’t see you there and- oh god, you’re bleeding. You need me to rush you to the hospital? Fuck, you think you broke something?” the words just kept flowing and flowing. “Where were you even going? Why didn’t you just got out of the main entrance? This fucking parking lot. I swear we have to call the landlord and have him put some lights down here. Your shirt,” she grimaced, eyeing the blood standing out on the white fabric. Aelin looked him in the eye, “I have a very similar one upstairs? You want me to go fetch it for you, I could-”
“Jesus Christ!” he yelled, putting his hands in between them, forcing her to step back, “Shut the fuck up!”
Aelin’s mouth closed shut and her eyebrows raised so high she felt her skin pull on her temples. She crossed her arms over her chest. Her eyes popping out.
This man. Sure, she’d just ran him over, but no one had ever talked to her like that.
“I’m fine.” he grumbled, “And I live in this building, I’ll go take my own shirt, thank you.” He took a deep breath, brushing off his trousers and bending to gather his stuff that had scattered around during his fall. When he lifted his head again, he gave her a tight smile and his piercing green eyes stared at her with an intensity that had Aelin’s toes curling in her shoes.
“Have a nice day.”
He then proceeded to walk away, leaving Aelin alone in the darkish driveway.
She looked around, hoping to see someone who could confirm that it had just been a figment of her imagination, but there was no one.
Getting back in her car, Aelin started the engine and drove up to the street, chewing on her lips, “What the fuck just happened?”
***
Aelin had thought all day about the mysterious man. She hadn’t been able to focus during her meetings and hadn’t even finished one of her projects. Something that she sure as fuck knew her boss would make her notice and work her ass off to make up for once word got to him.
Her day had started off so bad she knew it couldn’t get any worse, but she’d been wrong.
Her assistant had spilled coffee over her only finished drawing and herself. One of her coworkers had decided today was the perfect day to quit her job and pile her projects on Aelin’s desk. Then she’d gone out for lunch with some of her friends and it had started raining so heavily she’d been forced to stay in the office, only eye-eating the mouth-watering dishes her friends had posted on their instagram stories. They’d made it to the diner just before the sky cracked open.
And, the cherry on top, someone had keyed her car.
She’d been on the verge of tears when she’d spotted the red stains of her neighbor’s blood on the parking lot floor when she got back home, but she didn’t let any fall.
She had a date.
And she wouldn’t let all these little things get to her and ruin what could possibly be the best night of her life.
One of her life-long best friends had set her up on a blind date with one of her boyfriend’s best friends. She’d promised the man was the perfect match, someone Elide thought would keep her on her toes and match her overflowing personality.
Aelin had been hesitant at first when Elide hadn’t wanted to give her a name, or show her a picture, claiming she’d go all FBI style on him and ruin their first meeting, but she’d also promised Aelin she’d met the guy a few times and he’d been nothing but a gentleman.
And she had heard so much of him she felt like she’d known him her whole life.
Some of the things Elide had told her, she’d liked better if she’d found directly from him, but Aelin was a picky woman and she wasn’t risking another date with a creeper.
She pulled up in the restaurant’s parking lot where Elide had reserved the four of them a table and turned off her car, clutching the wheel. She took a deep breath. And another.
She was still a little worked up and all the pent-up emotions of the day were threatening to spill over the surface any minute, but she could make it past dinner and then have her little monthly breakdown in the peace and quiet of her apartment.
She fixed her lipstick, tightened up her ponytail and let two strands of hair cascade on the side of her face. She blew herself a kiss in the mirror, “You can do it.” she whispered as a short pet talk.
She got off the car, pulled out her phone to check if Elide was already inside and she was so focused on the screen she failed to notice someone backing up right in front of her until it was too late.
The car only bumped into her hip, but it was enough to make her lose her balance.
Aelin merely had time to register what was happening that she found herself lying in a puddle of rain and mud. She closed her eyes at the dull pain on the back of her head, but she knew for a fact the hit hadn’t been that bad.
She lifted her arms up, looking down at the wet spots on her dress, darkening by the second. Her seventy euros purse soaking up the water all around her.
The tension behind her eyes just increased when she heard the driver’s door open and someone step out of the car. She couldn’t have stopped the sobs even if she wanted to.
“Miss? Oh god, I’m so sorry. Are you alright?”
Strong arms circled her waist and pulled her up in a standing position. She brought her hands to her face, her body now racked by her crying as she tried to get a handle of herself.
“Miss?” the voice called again, now nearer. “Are you hurt? I didn’t-” the man talking stopped suddenly and Aelin looked up, not seeing anything through the tears. “You.”
And then it hit her.
That voice.
She knew that voice.
She ran her hand over her face, rubbing her eyes and staring right back at the man she had ran over that same morning.
Her mouth fell open.
He was looking at her with an amused expression and Aelin couldn’t find the words once again.
What was it with this man and his ability to take her ability to talk by just showing up?
He had a transparent band-aid on his cheek, his cut far less severe than she had thought, and his eyes were glistening with mirth. He was wearing a simple black pair of jeans and a dark green t-shirt, but he was even more handsome than in his work clothes.
Aelin was taking rushed, trembling breaths, and she was about to kill this man with her bare hands. Shred his skin off his bones and have him beg-
“I guess we’re even now, uh?”
His attempt of a joke flew over her head and she charged at him, a scream lodged in her throat.
His eyes widened and he took a step back when she flung her arm at him, trying to hit him. His hands closed around her wrists, blocking her from causing him more harm that she’d already done.
“You asshole!” she was screaming at the top of her lungs. “You ruined my dress!”
Aelin lifted a leg, more than convinced to kneel his balls, but he managed to block her blow again, infuriating her even more.
“I was about to meet the love of my life and ruined my fucking dress!”
He tried to push her away from him, still squeezing her wrists, and his brow furrowed.
“He’s everything I’ve ever dreamed of. He’s a pediatrician! He loves children! And he has a cute fucking dog my friend said I would love and cuddle the shit out of! Her name is Fleetfoot and she’s a golden retriever and Elide knows I fucking love goldens. And he’s from Orynth, just. Like. Me!” she got louder and louder with every word she spit out. “And he’s tall, and handsome and he’s the perfect match! And I deserved this one night!”
The man was now looking at her with a dumbfounded expression, his hold slightly loosening.
“I’m so done with this dating thing and I’d finally found him and you!” she shoved a finger in his chest, making him retreat a few steps. “You wanted your payback so bad you ran me over with your car!
“And now he’s gonna take one look at me and think I’m a fucking psycho! I bet my hair are the most disgusting thing he’s ever seen and my make up. Oh fuck, I must look like a panda.” Aelin started crying harder, laying her hands flat on the man’s torso, pushing her head to his chest. “I look like a fucking panda.”
She tried to speak again but her mind just couldn’t form any coherent thought, until she felt the man’s arms closing around her shoulders. He stepped closer, running his hand up and down her back, whispering something she couldn’t really hear over her crying.
Aelin didn’t know how much time she spent in the stranger’s embrace, but when the gravity of the scene she’d just made in front of him downed on her, she felt her body flare up in embarrassment.
That was her life now?
Having mental breakdowns in a dark parking lot after someone she’d ran over with her car had returned the gesture and then making them console her?
She detached herself from the man and for a second she thought she’d felt him hesitate before he took a step back. And another, leaving her standing her in her soaking wet dress and her puffy, surely-red eyes. He bent down, picking up her purse and handing it to her.
She lowered her gaze, not even daring looking at his shoes and closed her eyes.
“I’m sorry.”
The man made a sound of surprise, “Why would you be sorry?”
Aelin wished she could die on the spot. Evaporate out of existence.
“For hitting you. Or at least trying. And crying all over you.” she said and then grimaced. She ran a hand over her face. “I just had a very hard day and I wasn’t even sure I wanted to come, but this guy seriously seems like he could be the missing piece to whatever the fuck my puzzle-life is. I didn’t want to take a raincheck and have him thinking I’m not serious about this.”
A beat of silence, “I’m sure he would have understood.”
She shook her head, keeping on talking as if he hadn’t even been there, “And now I can’t go in like this.” she passed her hands on her dress, the tears building up again in her eyes. “Plus, Elide didn’t tell me what he looks like, cause she thinks he’s a real snack and wanted to see my face when I saw him for the first time.” she was bordering on pouting, “That means he’s gotta be smoking hot or I’ll be so pissed at her.”
The man snorted loudly, “A snack.” he hummed, “Maybe I should meet your friend and thank her.”
Aelin’s head snapped up, “Oh no, she’s taken.” she shook her head vehemently, “Like so freaking taken. I swear she and her boyfriend have been together for a whole of three months and they already act like a married couple.”
He nodded, a lopsided smile on his face, “I know the kind.”
She’d been so absorbed by her talking that she hadn’t noticed she’d stopped crying.
She breathed through her nose and clasped her hands together, before reaching one out towards him, “I think introductions are needed. I’m Aelin.” she offered a tentative smile.
His hand engulfed hers, shaking it with impressive gentleness. His smile grew even larger if possible and Aelin was starting to think she was about to het murdered.
But then he said his name and the world ceased existing around them.
Their hands still moving up and down between them.
She tilted her head forward, “I’m sorry, could you repeat that?”
He licked his lower lip, “I’m Rowan.”
Aelin closed her eyes, holding her breath.
She squeezed his hand before releasing it. She took a step back, wishing for the ground beneath her feet to crack open and just eat her whole.
“I’m gonna go kill myself now, if you’ll excuse me.”
His laugh reached her ears with painful speed.
Rowan.
She couldn’t believe it.
Well, she could. The man laughing his heart out at her expense was probably the most handsome person she’d ever seen in her entire life.
At least Elide hadn’t lied about that.
“A tad dramatic, if you ask me,” he said as his laugh died down. He pointed at the restaurant behind him, “You want me to go fetch the married couple so we can go back at the appartment and you can change? I’m not against you walking in there with this outfit at all,” he gave a pointed look, matched by a shit-eating grin that seemed to be etched in his lips, “I’m not gonna think you’re a psycho, not for this at least, and I’m ready to fight everyone who looks at you the wrong way. But you look like you could use the comfort of a warm house.”
Aelin looked up at him with a questioning look, trying to understand if this man she’d just tried to maul was seriously offering her options, letting her choose after everything that had gone down so far between the two of them. As if still giving her a chance.
Rowan arched a brow, looking around and glancing back at her, “Aelin?”
Oh, fuck.
She had been oh so not ready o hear her name from his lips.
She nodded and he smiled, leaning down a bit.
She could smell his cologne from here.
“Yes to what? Me calling Lorcan and Elide or getting inside even if you dripping wet?”
Holy fucking shit, this man shouldn’t have been allowed to say the words dripping wet.
She stilled herself.
What the hell was she thinking? She brought her hands to her face, “Please call them and let’s head home. I’m so fucking tired.” a yawn broke her sentence, as to prove her words, “And I’m freezing in this skimpy dress.”
Rowan rushed to her side, “Oh, god, sorry for not offering sooner, here,” he opened the trunk of his car and pulled out a huge blue sweater. Without even waiting for an answer he snatched her purse from her hands and shoved her head in his sweater.
Aelin felt better right away and gave him a big smile.
Rowan answered with one of his own and of course he had to be this perfect and more.
“I’m sorry for ruining your dress, I’ll make sure they wash it carefully when I take it to the laundry. If you’d let me.”
She nodded faintly, exhaling the panty-dropping smell of his sweater.
“And I’m hoping to see you wear it again once we finally get to go on a proper date.” he smirked, “I bet you looked amazing before I went and ran you over.”
Aelin chuckled, shaking her head, “You truly are a gentleman. Elide wasn’t exaggerating.”
Rowan’s demeanor changed completely and Aelin feared she’d said something wrong, but he averted his gaze as if he was embarassed.
“I’m sorry for this morning,” he said. Aelin almost tripped on her feet. He was sorry? “I shouldn’t have talked to you like that but I was just coming back from the hospital and Elide was right saying I work with kids, but I’m not a pediatrician, I’m a pediatric surgeon.”
His gaze grew dark as he looked over her shoulder, avoiding meeting her eyes at all costs.
“Yesterday night we lost a eight years old and I wasn’t really there when you hit me with your car. I didn’t mean to yell at you like I did, it was just-”
Rowan couldn’t finish his sentence that Aelin lunged for him, hugging him as tight as he’d held her a few minutes before, hoping she could relieve some of the pain that was surely clutching his heart. She felt him sag in her arms and hold her in turn.
She was glad she could offer some kind of support.
“It must be hard.” she whispered against his chest.
Rowan nodded, hitting her head with his chin, “It is, but it’s part of the job. The only way you can live with something like that in your baggage is knowing you did everything you could to save them.”
Aelin could feel the emotion lacing his every word and tightened her arms for a moment before freeing him of her embrace. He silently thanked her and told her he’d be right back with their friends.
The second he was gone she realized she couldn’t wait for when he’d be back and they could keep talking.
She’d never felt this way before. Not this fast at least.
Sure, she had loved all her exes, but this. This was different.
There was something there, a connection.
And while he walked back to her, Lorcan and Elide in tow, a bright smile on his handsome face, she couldn’t help but think she was ready to find out all about it.
Hidden~ Eddie Diaz x Nash! Reader
A/N: I wanted to add some action, so I moved up when Shannon decided to divorce Eddie. Eddie is too good to make him into a cheater. I'm not really good at describing intimate-type stuff either.
Lose Some, Win Some
Y/N's POV
I am finally home. I'm home with my son, and the school gave me a couple of days to rest. I sat on my couch, watching the news. "Today, police suspect LAFD's 118 for robbing $300,000 worth of cash from a local bank. Police say that the LAFD was there to help the bank manager and a delivery man with a seizure or a possible nerve agent. Police also say that they found the cash inside one of their firetrucks. More information coming up, soon."
After hearing that, I remember the number on one of the firetrucks at the crash. The 118 saved me, and if they saved me, that means that Eddie and my dad are being questioned for a robbery. I haven't known Eddie long, but I know that Eddie, nor my father, would rob a bank.
Zachary walks into the room. "Mommy, I'm ready for bed," my little man says. I turn to him and say, "Ok, I'll be in there in a bit." He runs back to his room.
I hear a knock at the door. It is almost 9:30 pm. Who could be at my door? I go to the door and look through the peephole. Eddie and Christopher stand at the door with a to-go bag.
I open the door, and I say, "Eddie? Chris? what are you doing here?" "I bet you have heard about what is going on. The police have ransacked our house, and I was wondering if you could watch Chris until this blows over?" Eddie asked me desperately.
I smile at the two boys. "Sure. Chris, Zach is in his room getting ready for bed. You can go hang out with him until I get you a bed ready. His room is down the hall, the First door on the left," I tell the little boy, and then turn to Eddie.
He hands me Chris' night bag, and I joke and say, "There better not be any evidence in here." He chuckles, saying, "Nope, no evidence, just clothes, and a toothbrush."
I invite him into my apartment. He walks in and says, "Nice apartment. Is that a skylight?" He points up, at the skylight, in my living room.
(Y/N's Living room /w a skylight)
"Yeah, when Levi died, I would tell Zach that his father was watching him from the stars. So, I decided that anytime we missed Levi, we would watch the stars," I said, trying not to tear up.
Eddie reaches in his pocket and pulls out a picture. "I'm guessing this is Levi?" Eddie asks, handing me the picture. I look at the picture and lose my cool. Eddie sits me on the couch and just hugs me.
This is the closest I've ever been to a man since Levi. It felt good. I felt protected. I don't need protection because I was in the navy, but this man made me feel loved.
We sat on the couch, with me crying into his shirt. "Mommy, aren't you gonna put me to bed?" "Yeah." I get up, heading into my child's room.
Eddie follows me into the room, and what he sees shocks him.
(Zachary's bed)
Christopher is sitting on the bottom bunk of a firehouse bed. The whole room was dedicated to firefighters. When we got in that crash, and he met his grandfather, Zach decided that when he gets older, he would become a firefighter.
Christopher looks at his dad and says, "Dad, Zach said he wants to be like you and uncle Buck when he gets older."
Eddie continues to look around. He walks towards the cubby. Inside the cubby is some of Zach's favorite toys, some pictures of Levi and I, and some pictures of Zach and I. What really caught Eddie's eye, was the picture of Zach on my shoulders, at the El Paso Zoo.
I am tucking the boys in, when I hear, "You were in El Paso?" I look back and say, "Yeah, that was Zach's 2nd birthday. Levi was born in Austin, but he grew up in El Paso." Eddie just nods and goes back to looking around.
As I'm tucking Christopher in he says, "Dad and I are from El Paso. It would have been cool if we met before LA." I smile at the boy, before walking out and turning off the lights.
"We have a lot in common, you know?" Eddie tells me. I look at him and he looks back. "Oh, really?" I ask. Eddie and I move closer to each other. I continue to look at the man and I ask, "Like what?" "Well, for starters, we were both fought for our country." Imagining this man in a military uniform made the moment even hotter. I moved closer. "Ok, and?" "And, we both had a son at a young age."
At this point, he was towering over me. I quickly pulled the man into a kiss. He kisses back. I move my hands from my side to his chest, and he grabs my hips. He deepens the kiss as I move my hands from his chest to his neck. I feel strong hands go under my shirt.
We keep making out for a couple of minutes until I pull back. "I'm so sorry. I forgot you married," I say frantically. "She told me she wasn't ready. She filed for divorce. I also didn't feel like our relationship was working. She left us when Chris was little. I kinda like this hot teacher, who was in the Navy and has a son. Also, she knows about being a firefighter." Eddie tells me, holding my hands.
I kiss Eddie again. Eddie and I head to my room, without breaking the kiss. That night was the best night in forever. Everyone got a sleepover.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The robbery thing has been put behind us, but a new problem has arrived. My father didn't tell the LAFD everything about why he transferred, therefore leaving him suspended. He hasn't told me either, but I think it is best to let him come to me about it.
I started work again today, except I feel like I'm looking after 3 kids. My dad insisted that we hang out, you know since he wasn't there for most of my life.
I wake up at 5 am to a large banging noise. I look to see who it is, and surprise surprise, it is my father with tons of groceries. "Dad, what are you doing here. Zach is still asleep, and I don't have to be up till 7 am." I tell my dad, letting him in.
He heads to my kitchen and sits down the food. "I was thinking that I could make you and Zach breakfast, and then I could take you to work."
I gave my father a loving look. I feel bad that his past came back to haunt him, but maybe something good will come out of it. Besides, I missed the father/daughter bonding we had. Eddie told me his food is at grade A chef level, so why not let him cook for me.
"Well I love what you're doing, but I'm missing sleep. If it's fine with you, could I go back to sleep?" I ask, and receive a nod back. I walk to my room, but I turn back to check upon him. I know he's sad, but at this moment he looks happy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up at 7 am to a heavenly smell. I walk into the kitchen, after remembering my dad was making breakfast. As leave the hallway to see my son and father talking about firefighting. I smile, and my dad turns to face me.
"Ah, you're awake! I woke up Zach and got him dressed for you." my dad says taking a bite of the french toast. I go into the kitchen and make myself some food. I see french toast, fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, and freshly squeezed orange juice. I look amazed as I take some of everything.
My dad works up the courage to ask me a question, "I was wondering if you wanted to stop by the firehouse, like old times. I have some people I would like you to meet." With my mouth full, I say, "Yeah, I missed those days" "Oh man, mommy is breaking a rule. She is talking with her mouth full," Zach says to the man next to him.
Dad laughs. "Well I ate, but I have to get dressed." I head to my room to get dressed.
(Y/N's outfit to work)
I walk back into the living room and we get ready to head out. We make it to the school, and I say goodbye to my father. I take Zach to class. I get to the office and I see Eddie and Chris. "Hey, I was just hanging with your fire captain." "Well, can you tell him we want him back because his replacement is terrible?" I laugh.
"So, are you coming to the firehouse?" Eddie asked me like he knew my dad would ask me. I give the firefighter a suspicious look and then say, "Yeah, my dad asked me this morning. Would you like me to bring Chris?" He gives me a "yeah, sure", and then we say goodbye.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Christopher and I had so much fun. We were in math, and I helped teach him fractions with mini Kit-Kats. Then, in English, we acted out storytime with his class. The day ended in science, where we build and erupted our own volcanos.
It is the end of the day, some and of the boys waited outside for my father. When he arrived, we got in and started heading towards the fire station, which was only a 5-minute drive.
We walk into the 118's fire station, and Zach went off. A scream could be heard throughout the whole building. All the firefighters and paramedics stopped to see what was going on. My dad walked up to me and said, "Just like his mother."
Eddie and another man walked down the stairs to see what was happening. I smile at the majestic man walking towards me. We go into a hug before I hear a cough.
"Eddie, aren't you gonna introduce me to the pretty lady," the man asked Eddie. I smile at the man, but Eddie and my dad roll their eyes. My dad jumps into the conversation, "Buck, this is my daughter, Y/N, and her son, Zach. Y/N, this is Buck."
Buck and I shake hands. "My name is actually Evan Buckley, but everyone calls me Buck. You are somewhat of what Eddie has told me. Your pretty, but I expected a younger Bobby, with boobs." Eddie smacks Buck's chest.
I'm laughing and I head upstairs with the others. "Mommy! Mommy! Can I go down the fire pole," Zach asks, tugging on my pant leg? I nod my head yes.
Another man and woman walk over and sit with us in the lounge. "Why is there a little boy running around? Did someone drop him off, because I think your only supposed to do that with babies, not children," the man said, sitting right next to me. "That's my son. I'm Y/N." I hold out my hand waiting for the man to shake it. "I'm Howie, but everyone calls me Chimney. This is Hen," The man says, and the woman waves.
We continue to talk until the emergency bell rings. Everyone heads downstairs, but I pull Eddie back. I give him a long kiss, with my arms around his neck and his around my waist.
I pull back and say, "I had fun the other night. Maybe, I could see if my dad could watch the boys, and you and I could maybe have dinner at my house." Eddie groans and says, "Oh, how I would love that. We could also watch a movie."
This man will be the death of me. "Yeah, but you need to go." Eddie runs off to an emergency, I head to the store with my dad, Christopher, and Zachary.
"You know, you don't have to hide Eddie from me," He tells me. I look at him shocked. "I see the way you guys look at each other, and I saw you guys kiss today," he says calmly.
"Well, since you know could you help me make a meal for him and I tonight, and can you watch the boys?" I practically beg. He nods, and then he moves towards the isles, picking out ingredients.
"I don't want to intrude, so I will give you a recipe card. But yes, I will take the boys, just use protection. I don't want to see another grandchild for a while," he says, earning a smack on the chest from me. "There are children around," I whisper.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My dad gave me a recipe for Ravioli, served with garlic bread and bacon-wrapped asparagus. I am almost finished cooking when I hear a knock.
(Y/N's Date Outfit)
I open the door to see a devastated Eddie. I go in to hug him, and Eddie says, "She's dead. Shannon died in the emergency room. That call we left for, that was for her. What am I gonna tell Christopher."
I welcome the man in, and I sit him on the couch. "Do you want to eat?" I ask, hoping that I could get him to relax and eat. "No" is all I hear, before he shoves his face into my shoulder, and lets it all out. I rub his back and say, "Everything will be fine."
We sit there, on the couch, just cuddling. I smell something burning. My eyes widen and I yell, "My bread!"
Eddie's mind comes back to earth and he heads towards the kitchen. Not only is the bread burnt, but there was also a slight fire. Eddie quickly grabbed the fire extinguisher and put out the fire.
I was so scared. Eddie saved me from a fire. At the moment, I forgot all about the food, Eddie's emotions, and everything else. I kissed Eddie out of thankfulness. We kissed for about a minute before he pulled away.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have done that, with everything going on. I was scared. I could've just stood there and let the fire grow, but no, you saved me. You are m-" Eddie cut me off with a kiss.
Eddie picked me up and took me to my room. He laid me on my bed, and next thing you know, our clothes are off.
Not as a Friend
Pairing: Heeseung x gn!Reader
Genre: Fluff, Angst
Word count: 2,485
Summary: The two of you have always been close to each other. Saying, I love you, as friends, since young. But your feelings are deeper than that of a friend. A confession pushes you to tell him how you really feel, even if it might ruin your friendship.
A/N: It's been a millennium since I've written. This is also my first time writing in First Person so this was a struggle. Still, I hope it's not too bad. *I wrote this with the thought of the Reader and Heeseung being high school seniors, already 18, but I never specified age or grade in the story, so I guess it doesn't really matter. Anyways, enjoy!
The walk home with Heeseung today feels unbearable, I know that he keeps glancing in my direction, I know he’s worried after seeing my face in class. That makes it hurt even more, he’s so kind and caring, what did I do to deserve a friend like him? We continue our walk back home in silence and I think about the past.
I like you and I love you are very straightforward words, but depending on the context of the relationship they can have a different meaning. I remember the first time I said I loved him, it was a very wholesome moment. We were only six, our mothers watched us play together in the park, “They haven’t known each other for very long but they get along so well,” my mother said gleefully.
“Yes, they must really like each other,” Heeseung’s mother replied. I lifted my head to look at Heeseung, our eyes met and we smiled at each other. Hearing their conversation, I turned to them ready to tell the world about my friend.
“I love Heeseung, he is my best friend!” I grabbed his hands, they were just as small as mine. Heeseung leaned into me, flashing a dazzling smile to our parents.
“I love y/n too.” It was so innocent. For a long time after that, we never had a problem saying, I love you, to each other. It was just a casual statement between friends. In instances when saying goodbye to each other or times when we would annoy each other, one of us would say, ‘you still love me, don’t you?’ and the other would reply ‘...I still love you.’
It changed when we were older and our peers would make fun of us for saying it so casually. I wasn’t bothered by the teasing, but Heeseung would always try to defend the innocence of our relationship, “Guys, we don’t like each other. We're just friends, this is just how we have always been with each other.” I had already started to develop feelings for him, maybe I was feeling guilty because when I would say, I love you, it wasn’t so much in a platonic way anymore. So one day I drew a line.
“Heeseung, you know I love you, right?” We sat in his living room, relaxing after we came back from school.
“What’s wrong?” I guess my tone didn’t sound too happy, he looked concerned as he looked at me in silence waiting for my answer.
“I think we should stop saying, I love you, to each other...not just in front of our classmates, but probably when we’re alone too.” He sat up straight quickly, pushing his hair back.
“What, why? Is it because of all the teasing?” I couldn’t meet his eyes and tell him the real reason.
“Not really, I’ve just been thinking. We aren’t in love with each other or anything, we’re just friends. When you do end up dating someone, I don’t want to be the problem in your relationship. If I was in their shoes, I think I would be jealous. So...yeah.” I looked back up at him, he looked at me too, seeming to be thinking and searching for something. After the long pause, he slumps back a little and leans his head back, letting out a big sigh.
“If that’s how you feel then we can do that.”
“Hey come on, it’s not like I suddenly stopped caring about you.”
“Ha, yeah.” He gave a small smirk. We continued our evening together with a somewhat awkward atmosphere.
Not long later, I regretted what I said that day. Most people were finished with class cleaning, same for me. I was packing my things, getting ready to leave school with Heeseung like we do every day. Weirdly enough Heeseung usually finishes before me and comes to me first, but he wasn’t here yet. I walk to his classroom after I'm done getting ready, and yet still, I didn’t see him. I asked some of his classmates, “Hey, do you know where Heeseung is?”
“Uh, he left with a girl a little while ago, but he didn’t take his stuff,” one of his classmates answered, pointing to his bag half-packed on his desk, he didn’t take his phone either. Many thoughts flew through my head, but the loudest one was, ‘He’s getting confessed to.’ I pursed my lips and then said my thanks to his classmates and left back to my classroom. I wanted to take his bag, pack it for him, but the thought of finding out that he said yes, I don’t think I could look at him, it would hurt too much.
I sat down on my seat in the now-empty class, laying my head down and covering my head with my arms. ‘A confession doesn’t take long, I’ll wait for 10 minutes max. If he doesn’t come to get me then I’ll just leave.’ I gripped onto my forearms, ‘I should be happy for him if he says yes to her.’ I started to anxiously bounce my leg, ‘Please, come back soon.’ It felt like an eternity left alone with my thoughts. The sounds outside the classroom slowly softened as students continued to leave. Within the muted sounds came pounding footsteps and then the sound of the door slamming open. Startled, my head shoots up from the desk and I look to the door. There he was, bag slung on one shoulder, his breathing irregular from running, a nervous smile on his face as he let out a just as nervous chuckle.
“Thank goodness you're still here, I wasn’t sure if you left without me. And sorry, I had to do something really quick.” His face fell when he saw my face go from shocked to one that was holding back tears, emotional upheaval nearby. “What’s wrong? What happened?” his eyes were filled with concern as he quickly went up to me kneeling in front of my seat. His head now lower than mine, I looked down at him.
“Heeseung,” my voice had a slight tremble. “I- can we go to your place first...I’ll be ready to tell you then.”
“Of course,” he wrapped his arms around my body, it was such a natural gesture. “It’s gonna be okay.” I hoped it was going to be okay and that he wouldn't leave me after this.
"I-I would never leave without you," even though I said only 10 minutes, I would have waited till the sunset, till there was no more hope. With those last words I pull away from him and we walk out of the classroom without another word and made the seemingly long walk home. Finally, at his home, his parents are still at work it seems so we head straight upstairs. He gets into his normal spot on his bed but instead of leaning against the wall, he sits forward, looking at me. My normal spot would be next to him but I just stood in front of his bed. I don't want to make him uncomfortable after what I'm about to tell him.
"Before I say anything else, I just want to confirm something, if you are comfortable with sharing. What did you have to do during cleaning time?" Heeseung processed for a bit and then his eyebrows shot up in realization.
"Oh uh…" he hesitates.
"It's fine if you don't want to share." ‘I'm still gonna say what I have to say regardless of the answer, I thought to myself.’
"No, no, it's just a little weird. I…got confessed to," silence.
"...Ah, I thought that was the case."
"I rejected them!” he retorted. “...sorry, I'm not mad at you, I just-” he sighed while putting his head in his hands. “I don’t want to make this about me, but I need to say something to you too,” he looks back up at me. I was startled but I knew he wasn’t angry at me, but he was obviously in distress.
“It’s okay, Heeseung. I’ll always be here for you, no matter what. I just hope I don’t ruin the mood after this. Okay, okay, ...sorry, just a little bit longer,” I say, letting out nervous laughter. I start to pace around his room, nerves getting the best of me. I feel my heart pick up speed and I try to keep my breathing under control, clenching and unclenching my fists. I didn’t realize he got up from the bed till I felt his hand squeeze mine. I look at him, freezing up in his gaze. My thoughts are telling me to run away but the heat from his hand was suffocating against my burning one, and yet I didn't want to let go, the feeling told me to stay.
"Hey, you know. You know... I'll love you no matter what. It's okay." Those words that I want so dearly to be true made my heart stop and my body tremble with trepidation. More than anything I didn't want to lose Heeseung, but I care about him, so I don't want to lie and not tell him how I really feel.
"I love you so much. I- I don't know what to do with myself…" My hand squeezes his back, making his hand quiver along with mine. There was heat building up behind my eyes, vision becoming a little blurry.
"It’s okay, breathe. Tell me what’s wrong.”
“No, you don’t get it,” the tears that had been brimming around my eyes finally fell. “I love you and I always will but for a long time now it’s been more than that. I like-like you, I- I’m in love with you! I don’t want to be just your friend anymore. The thought of you being with someone else hurts...so much, but I’ve been too scared to say anything because I don’t want to lose you.” The words became more unsteady, I tried to stop myself from losing complete control of my emotions. I slowly started to sink to the floor and Heeseung followed me down till we popped to the ground in the middle of his room. While stared into each other’s eyes the entire time, I could see Heeseung’s face change, expressing multiple different emotions, none of them seem good.
“...I’m sorry, I d- I didn’t know. I’m sorry, y/n.” Heeseung pursed his lips, he looked like he was about to cry with me. He lets go of my hand and wraps his arms around my body squeezing me tight, repeating, I’m sorry. Are we both trembling now? It’s hard to tell if it’s just me but I wrap my arms around him too and let it all go, my whimpers and sniffles became full-blown sobs. I don’t know how long we cried for, but eventually, our cries came to a hush. It seems like we cried for a long time together and I feel exhausted.
“Ugh, I kinda feel like I have to throw up.” As an attempt to lighten the mood I joke about the very real condition of my stomach, while I pull away from him. Heeseung sniffles and chuckles.
“Yeah, same here,” we look each other in the eyes again. His hands came up and touched my face wiping away the dampness from my cheeks. Even after gently wiping he still kept his hands there. “I’m sorry, that I was a coward. If I just told you how I felt sooner, much sooner, you wouldn’t have to suffer like that. I’m in love with you too…” He pauses to see my reaction as I process this new information. “Pfft, I thought you would have been happy, why are you crying again?” he teases as he rubs at my face again. Even in a moment like this, we can't stop our bantering.
“Shut up, these are tears of happiness,” I hadn’t even realized more tears fell out, I thought I was all cried out. “We are both cowards though. It feels kinda silly now, we’ve cried this much just to say, I love you. When did it all become so complicated?” I sighed, tilting my head a little.
“I don’t know exactly when I fell for you, but when I realized, I knew I wanted you by my side, always, not like before, not as just friends. But I was afraid of ruining our relationship if you didn’t feel the same way.” I grab his shoulders pushing him down to the ground, straddling his body.
We’re so lame, worrying about the same thing, and in the end, we have nothing to worry about, because we both like each other!” Heeseung raises an eyebrow.
“Correction, love each other.” I purse my lips as I look down on him.
“Yeah, I like you, I love you, I’m in love with you! Happy now?
“Yup,” He gave a sly smirk.
“...Damn, I really want to kiss you.”
“What’s stopping you?” ‘Fair enough,’ I thought as I leaned down, closing my eyes, placing a chaste kiss on his lips. I could feel his lips form a smile against mine which made me smile too. I pulled away laughing, the happiness I’m feeling right now seems unreal, but looking at his smile, the reddish color that dusted his cheeks and ears told me just how real it was.
“That was nice,” I say as I remove myself from the top of his body and lay beside him.
“Much better than our first kiss. This time I didn’t have to hide how much I like kissing you.” He turns his body to face mine, propping his head with his hand. My eyes widened at this revelation.
“Wait, you liked me since then?”
“Definitely before then, but yes.”
“Ahh, why were we both so oblivious?!” I bring my hands up to cover my face.
“Hey, at least we know now. I don’t plan on letting you go.”
“Oh, dearest boyfriend of mine, who said I was going anywhere without you?” Heeseung grins from ear to ear.
“I like the sound of that.”
“I’m sure all our classmates and friends will love to tease us about this when they find out. Heeseung cringes at that statement, not exactly something to look forward to.
Sure enough, when we came to school the next day we decided we were not going to try and hide anything, and walked to school holding hands, fingers intertwined. The hollers from our friends and classmates made us embarrassed, but explanations would come later. Though what left everyone flabbergasted, myself included, is when we had to part ways, going into our classrooms, Heeseung bent down and tilted my head up towards his and kissed me. It was short and he left me in the hall dumbstruck as he scurried to class. The shouts of everyone watching were lost to my ears. I was so gonna get him later for this.
The beauty in the choice that is Glimmadora
Season 1, episode 2, roughly 18 odd minutes into the runtime, with Theymore in ruins and Glimmer and Adora having a moment that defines them both as people. Aka, the /exact/ moment I fell head-first into Glimmadora hell. And keep falling
First of all, because of how Adora says 'Glimmer'- softly, disbelieving, just the tiny bit hopeful- and then for what they both say next.
Adora- "Glimmer..? What are you doing? Why did you save me?"
Glimmer- "We need you. We need She-Ra. *brings out the sword* I should have given this back to you in the ruin. *Adora stares* You could have saved us in there and I knew that... but I was stupid, *starts crying* and a jerk, and I almost got us killed and I'm sorry!"
Adora- "You're not any of those things. I'm the Horde soldier! How do you know you can trust me now?"
Glimmer- "... I don't. But I hope I can. I feel like, maybe, you're here to help us. *holds out the sword*"
Adora- *slowly reaches out* *sees a Horde bot closing in on her and a magically exhausted Glimmer, who just spent some of her last magic saving Adora* *reaches for the sword again, hesitates*
Adora- *grabs the sword and puts herself between the charging Horde bot and Glimmer*
This right here? This is beautiful.
And here is why i think so
I'm a sucker for moments when characters make their own choices. When things line up and they stand on a crossroads, all the power of which way the story swings resting in their hands...
I'm even more of a sucker for two characters, both given that power of choice, picking the path they feel is right for them, and that also leads them to each other.
After two episodes of build up, showing why they believe what they believe, how that pits them against each other, and how it also opens the door to them realizing they actually share a common goal- protecting people- there is a pause. A gap of open space. Glimmer and Adora are given room to make their decisions, and there is no outside push that forces them together. Actually, THEY are the ones who have to push towards each other, in SPITE of everything.
The sword doesn't glow or start magically tugging itself towards Adora, the new She-Ra, prompting Glimmer to give in and bring it to her. Bow doesn't nudge her into going after Adora. He's shocked when she suggests it! Even rebuts by pointing out that Adora had just (seemingly) sold them out to the Horde!
It's Glimmer's choice, and hers alone, to go find Adora.
Apologizing for being a jerk also wasn't required, she could have given her the sword without that. But she wanted to say sorry. She felt bad about what she'd done. She wanted to own up to her mistakes, and do it in front of someone who she was not long ago calling a 'monster'.
Leading up to this, it was Adora's choice to try stopping the Horde's attack on Theymore. Her choice to leave the Horde, even if it meant losing everything she had, everything she'd ever known- Her best friend (who she asked to come with her, and who's choice to stay she accepted. Who she apologized to, because it was hard to go, but she had to), her promotion, her home, her idea of who she was and how the world worked, all of the certainty in her life. In the face of seeing innocent unarmed people fleeing in front of the Horde's crushing tanks, Adora gave it all up, without know what, if anything she would find to replace it with.
She wasn't part of the Rebellion yet. She didn't have the sword.
The narrative could have made her a Rebel first. It could have had her accepted in Bright Moon and be given a place there. It could have had Glimmer give her the sword before confronting Catra. Adora could have been safely herded into her new life outside the Horde. A better life, with security and power and no fear of Shadow Weaver hurting her best and only friend and then putting the responsibility of that pain on her. Faced with that choice, would it even be much of a choice at all?
Adora doesn't get that though. She has no certainty, no sword, no acceptance. Even after doing her She-Ra thing and driving off the Horde, she panics, asking what she's going to do now she's gone against the Horde. She doesn't even know where she will go, afterwards. She doesn't know if she will have a place outside the one she just threw away. And she still left.
And when she talks to Glimmer, she didn't have to reassure Glimmer that she wasn't a jerk or stupid of "any of those things". That was just something she wanted to say, right then, to the girl who took her prisoner. To the girl who took a Horde soldier prisoner. To the girl who didn't leave her to die in the collapsing ruin, and came for her again, saved her from being dragged back to the Horde as a traitor.
She wanted Glimmer to know that she, Adora, didn't think any of those bad things about her. Didn't blame her for being furious at someone from an army that is destroying her home, or think she was stupid for not trusting a Horde soldier with a powerful weapon.
Adora didn't have to ask how Glimmer can trust her now. She wanted to know the answer, herself. She was a Horde soldier. She understood what that meant, now, and she didn't want to be that anymore. But what had she done so far, to earn Glimmer's trust?
Glimmer could have said platitudes to that, could have smoothed it over with The Power Of Friendship or maybe just Well You Haven't Killed Or Betrayed Us Yet When You Had The Chance, or even, I'm Out Of Options And The Magical Sword Likes You So Destiny Maybe.
She doesn't say any of that. It might be easier for Adora to hear, but it's not true. To the girl who is suddenly questioning her whole life and everything she was ever told, Glimmer says the truth instead.
It's not what Adora's done so far that's convinced Glimmer. It's what Glimmer thinks Adora wants to do from now on. That's what Glimmer is putting her trust in. Adora's own choices, not the ones that were made for her.
And what does Adora do? The very first thing she does, when Glimmer hands her an incredibly powerful magical sword?
She protects Glimmer. She uses the sword, to protect. To defend. That is her choice.
That's what Glimmer saw in her, the hope she found. That's what she put the Rebellion on the line for, risked ruin by handing the sword over to someone who still has the Horde symbol on their back. There was who Adora had been, up to this point. And then there was who she wanted to be.
A Horde soldier who didn't want to hurt people, argued with Glimmer not because she thought that hurting others was justified, but because she didn't want to believe the Horde HAD hurt people. A Horde soldier who didn't scoff at the people of Theymore for being weak or unguarded or try to take advantage of these trusting people- the opposite, in fact. Adora was enthralled. Awed. When she realized this was the place the Horde would be attacking, she couldn't believe it. She wanted it be a mistake. She listened, finally, when Glimmer showed her that it wasn't.
And faced with Glimmer and the sword, the terrifying leap from her old life into some new unknown, Adora looks at Glimmer's choices for guidance. "I'm the Horde soldier!" she says, "How do you know you can trust me now?"
How does Glimmer know she's doing the right thing? How can Glimmer be sure?
Glimmer isn't sure. She says as much. She's making the choice anyway.
How does Adora know she's also making the right choice? How can she be sure?
She can't be.
She can only see what Glimmer did, confronted with the same risk, and decide if that's an example she wants to follow. If this girl, angry and pained, brave and protective, imperfect and trying, strong enough to look at her own mistakes and apologize for them- is this someone Adora wants to see in herself? Is THIS who she wants to be like? At the cost of everything else? With no guarantees how it will end for her?
Yes. She decides it is.
She takes the jump with Glimmer. She follows this strange, rebel princess into the unknown.
And in that moment, they aren't strangers anymore.
It's so wonderful, even re-watching it for the millionth time- The dialogue, the voice acting, the emotional and narrative payoff from everything that had been shown before. Everything Glimmer has lost (her father, her relationship with her mother, her own sense of worth tied up in a war she keeps losing). Everything Adora stands to lose (her home, her self worth so tied up in the captains rank she's been trained for. Her childhood friend, her enemy now)
The pressure that was on both Glimmer and Adora to stay the way they were- (Through Angella, and even a little from Bow, through Shadow Weaver and Catra) (Even Light Hope and the sword only confuses things, the simple question of where Adora came from suddenly getting tied up in mystery and treason, the answer that was supposed to give her a sense of belonging threatening to isolate her instead)- that pressure to walk away is very real. Don't take that risk. Don't make that jump. It frightening and hard. You might be wrong.
Don't reach out to each other, don't change, don't meet each other there, in that terrifying middle ground.
And THEN, their decisions to both say 'fuck it' and do what they thought was right instead. Even if they weren't sure what would happen next.
If it might let them help others more than they have so far, save the rebellion, protect the people who really need protecting, well then, for Glimmer and Adora, that made it worth it, to do the right thing. To be the people they both really want to be.
Which, in the end, meant being a lot like each other, at their core.
I love that.
There is nothing in a story more powerful to me, than when a choice like this is made. When it feels earned, and meaningful. When it grows out of the story that had been unfolding up till then, and changes the way it will end.
When it's two women making that change, that choice, together? I'll never get enough of that.
And the intimacy. My god.
After being so open, honest, raw, it's not surprising when Glimmer and Adora come together in the aftermath. Enemies one episode ago, fire forged friends now, them holding onto each other feels right, by the episode's end. Physically reaching out, mirroring and confirming what they both had already done. Especially how gentle Glimmer is with Adora's moment of panic, how she reaches out to calm her, reassures her she DOES have a place, and friends. The moment when she offers her hand to help Adora stand again, and Adora looks up, smiles at her before taking it...
the CATHARSIS of seeing THESE TWO ENEMIES TURNED ????? TURNED FRIENDS HOLDING ONTO EACH OTHER, LETTING EACH OTHER BE SO CLOSE- AND THAT GLIMMER IS SUPPORTING ADORA IN THIS MOMENT EVEN THOUGH SHE HERSELF IS FRESH OUT OF MAGIC AND IS FEELING IT, BUT SHE KNOWS WHAT ADORA JUST WENT THROUGH BECAUSE THEY WENT THROUGH IT TOGETHER, IT- IT- IT'S-
Yeah. my little wlw heart didn't stand a chance. i will be smitten forever with these two, from the force of a couple of episodes and some vERY nicely handled writing
..
..... also, the way Adora helps a fainting Glimmer and props her up against a rock, but with her hands just resting on Glimmer for a moment like...
i've stared at this screencap for a long time, ngl
Vampire Ateez a Skz member is forcefully drinking from you
Warning: drug abuse, swearing, fighting, blood, drinking without your consent, nearly rape, kidnapping
A/N- Soooo I hope you enjoy it!!!
Requested: Yes
_________________________________________
Hongjoong
Hongjoong tried to get a long with the fact that skz is getting bigger and bigger
That they are getting more and more powerful
That he maybe has to make allies with them
But all his calmness is gone as soon as he sees the leader of skz all over you
His eyes shining in a dark red color and his fangs slightly digging on your skin
He is mad, no even more than that
Doesn't hold back anymore till the other leader finally learns his place
His place under him
After that he takes you home and tries to calm you down
Whispers in your ear
Pets your head
Makes you tea
All of that
A lot of snuggling
Will never ever let something like that happen again
,,And if you do this again." His look is cold, colder than ice and sharper than a knive as he looked at the skz leader with so much hatred. ,,I will not hesitate to kill you little boy. Never dare to lay a finger on something that stands under my protection."
Seonghwa
He doesn't even know how this happened
He went to a party with you
Lost you for 5 seconds
And the next time he finds you, you are laying unconscious under Minho
Skz often goes along very well, Seonghwa doesn't mind them but as soon as he sees the member of the rivals hovering over your body. Ready to suck your blood
He sees red
If Minho is alive after that a wonder happened
Because he should not be
Someone touch something that is very special to him
In fact the most special thing
And no one is going to hurt it
He leaves Minho laying on the floor and then places his jacket over you
Picking you up and carrying you home were he can nurse you back to a good state
Apologies a lot of times because he couldn't protect you
A single tear ran down his cheek and right after that a shaky sob was heard from your mate. It breaks your heart to see him like that, but there is nothing you could do to make him feel better. It doesn't matter what you are saying, he feels shitty for not protecting you like he promised you. His mate got bitten by someone else and it hurts him just as much as it hurts you.
Yunho
He is the softest person and trusts his family with his whole heart.
But one new member was very suspicious to him the whole time
Not that he would go against Hongjoong orders no
But the guy always was a little shitty in his eyes
He had the feeling to know him and to know that he has ill intentions
And he was right
One day you visited him and he had to do some things before you could leave
The guy, Hyunjin, started to flirt with you, telling you that he is the only chance for you to get out of this situation alive because skz is going to take ateez down
Of course Yunho heard that
He is angry. So is the rest of Ateez because they saw how Hyunjin tried to convince you to go with him
And after you said no he tried to drink from you even if you yelled at him to stop
No one of the holds back, but Yunho doesn't care about him
He just cares about you
Tries to calm you down
Draws small circles on your lower back while whispering calming words in your ear
,,Psssht princess/prince don't cry don't cry." his voice was barely a whisper. It hurts him to hear your heartbreaking sobs and the words you say. You are blaming yourself for that and it breaks him. Nothinh is your fault. None of this is your fault. He has to make you see that.
San
Leaves you alone for 5 minutes and guys are already flirting with you
But then he sees how you are rejecting the jerk
Beforw the guy leaves he tells you that you will regret that
And he was right
Just in this night some rivals attacked you both surprisingly
San saw how the jerk feed from you and the smudge smirk on his face as he let your body fall down on the floor
He tried his best to protect you, his mate, he was so angry that he thought he can do it, but there were to much
The next time he wakes up you are gone
And he is laying in a dark basement
Before he realizes who his enemies are
He saw them before.
And now where he know that it is skz
He even more concerned about you
,,Fuck give me my mate back you bastard!" San was filled with rage as the rival stepped in the room. His brown hair hanging in his face and a big smirk shooting at him. ,,Aww you want your sweet little mate back? To bad this is not going to happen. We will use you to get the others to and then your territory is ours."
Mingi
He doesn't hate skz, he never thought they are nice or something like that but he never hated them
What mingi doesn't know is that Jeongin the youngest of straykids would cause a lot of trouble
Jeongin is sweet, kind, charming and he knows it
What he also knows is that he wants you
And he usually gets what he wants
That's why it confuses him if you say no to him
But he couldn't bother less
He wants your blood
That's why he spikes your drink and get you out of the overfilled room
Even in your drugged state you tried to fight against him but he was way to strong for you
His sucks your blood and you feel damaged
Only Mingi is allowed to do that
And the taller one never drink so much that you get unconscious
If it want for mingi Jeongin drank too much and would have ended dead
But mingi isn't satisfied with on punch
No he is going to beat the small vampire
He will never come near you again
,,M.. Mingi.. N.. No" your weak voice suddenly gets the attention of the angry vampire. His head turned to your weak body and he immediately backed off, picking you up and checking if you are okay. ,,I.. If you kill him t.. That might end in a war between ateez and skz.." You said weakly and your boyfriend nods in understanding. ,,You are probably right baby. Come on let's go home."
Yeosang
He is not known for mercy
Neither is Felix
Felix saw you, he smelled your blood and he wants you
He wants to see you cry under him while he rips you away from your mate
He usually isn't that cruel but for you he has a special addiction
Yeosang knows that
Thats why he is always very careful around him
But you know that it would have happen sooner or later
Yeosang didn't watch for a few seconds and Felix already got you
It was horrible for you, it wasn't just the drinking no
He was touching you too without any consent
You cried out for help and just in the moment you thought that no one would help you
Yeosang appeared to save you
Felix immediately disappeared
But yeosang couldn't care less
He checks on you and brings you back home
He is apologizing and he feels horrible for not being able to protect you
Even if you say it's fine he knows that it isn't
But he can't turn back time
,,N.. No y/n h.. He He.. " Yeosang mumbled out and looked on the ground, his eyes fixed on one spot. His hand balled into a fist. ,,I will never forgive myself for not being able to stop him sooner." Yeosang wasn't the person who cried easily, so his tears staining his cheek breaks your heart.
Wooyoung
He trusted Changbin
He was friends with him and they liked eachother
So he trusted him to take care of you while he is gone for a while
But this was a mistake
Once he came home
He saw that the other vampires drinks from you while he muffled your screaming
His hands are all over your body
And Wooyoung sees red
He feels betrayed, hurt and most of all angry
Changbin doesn't get out of this alive
And you are shaking and crying in his arms
He will never forgive himself something like that
He will never trust anyone like this again
Doesn't want to face you
He distances himself from you
This one accident changed your relationship
,,N.. No leave me alone Y/N! " his heart ached just like yours. He doesn't mean it. You both know that, but the words still hurt. He is your mate, your boyfriend and the love of your life and now he is pushing you away. It hurts. It hurts so much
Jongho
Seungmin is small next to him
Physically he doesn't have a chance against Jongho
But he is smart, very smart
It wasn't easy but Seungmin got you
He wanted you, from the first time he saw you he wanted you and your blood
It was an obsession
A cruel obsession
He knows that jongho and you are mates
That you will never feel the same for him like you feel for Jongho
But if he can't have you, no body can
He drinks without your consent, against your will and tried to do everything to make you forget your stupid ,, mate"
Just in the time jongho gets you back
Seungmin is gone
And as you opened your eyes again, you didn't know where the person on front of you were
To say that jongho was shocked is an understatement
He was more than that
So much more than that
,,Y.. You.. You don't know who I am? Sweetheart don't play with me like that. It.. It isn't funny" His voice breaks a few times and he desperately hoped that this is just a sick joke of yours, but his hope got crashed down as you shook your head. ,,I.. I don't know who you are.. I-please leave me alone.."
Nine Percent 3rd Year Anniversary Scenario
Yes, yes, I know, it's been 3 days since their actual 3rd year anniversary. Yes, I had a brainfart and knew that I forgot something and didn't realise until late at night (like 10pm or 11pm). But hey, better late than never, right? RIGHT?! (My inner self: funny). Anyways, I wish them all nothing but the best for both their career and personal life. May they be able to do whatever they want and not be judged or be commented anything negative. Alright", scenario time!!
Pics are from: @ninepercent._.forever on Instagram
Cai Xukun
A.N: yes, yes, finally got some more soft pics uwu, thanks Aliya, okie" scenario
I imagine that you were rushing to get this limited edition record/album from your local music shop because not only was it limited edition, but the artist also signed them personally and not the ones where they just copy 1 signature for all the copies but they actually signed them with a pen and all but no one knew about it because they just came out with it but you were lucky because you had a friend working at the music store. You immediately texted your friend, telling them to keep one for you as you were now rushing out the door in your hoodie and sweats with sandals.
Upon arriving, you were wondering where your friend was since you just wanted to pay for the album and leave. You quickly texted your friend which they mentioned that they had to run a few errands for a bit since it was exactly lunchtime when you came.
Sighing, you decided to just look around but stopped at your tracks when you saw none other than Cai Xukun, the very artist whose album you asked your friend to keep. Not wanting him to notice what a mess you look, you hid behind the shelves and peeked through, observing what he was doing. It wasn't until Kun suddenly called you out that you completely blew your cover.
"You know, I'm not that scary to approach" Kun blurted, not moving his gaze away from the albums
"I--I'm sorry, I didn't mean to st-stalk you. It's just that, I'm a fan and I'm waiting for my friend, they work here and I've asked them to keep one of your albums that you personally sign and, what am I even saying?!" you blabbed, covering your face with your hands and hoodies
"I can sign it specifically for you, if you'd like" Kun smiled, looking up to face you
"Oh my, yes, umm, thank you so very much" you blurted, bowing at him
"Relax. You don't have to bow. C'mere, we can take a picture as well :)" Kun exclaimed, nudging you to go there
and let's just say, you and Kun had a nice lil chat after your little meetup session whilst waiting for your friend to come back. You also made a lil note to thank your friend for leaving
Chen Linong
For this one, I imagine that you, Nongnong and some old school friends were going on a road trip together and stayed in an Airbnb. During the first night, you were supposedly sleeping with your friend (girl) but that night, you guys just finished watching a horror/thriller movie (which you just cuddle up in Nong's arms since you were terrified, if you actually like watching horror, just pretend that this one terrified you quite a bit). After the movie, you couldn't really sleep and it was already nearly 3 in the morning that you went out of your room and to the kitchen to grab a light snack and heard some footsteps.
Scared, you unconsciously grabbed the kitchen knife and turned around to face the person that crept up on you; which turns out to be Nongnong. He immediately held his hands up in defeat but the same time chuckling on why are you holding a kitchen knife. You shyly admitted to him that you couldn't sleep because of the movie you watched; it also didn't help that your friend sometimes talks in their sleep.
Humming, Nongnong asked if you didn't mind sleeping with him. He said that he'll definitely make sure that you'll be asleep before he sleeps and he also suggested that you guys watch some cartoon. Since you and Nongnong have known each other for years and occasionally have sleepovers (of course in different rooms), you didn't mind sleeping with him since back in high school, you had a trip and you slept on his shoulder whilst being on the bus.
Because you were also quite tired and really wanted some rest, you agreed and the both of you went to Nongnong's room. Nongnong then allowed you to sleep on whichever side of the bed as he grabbed his iPad and opened your favourite cartoon. In a matter of a few episodes, you were finally asleep and Nongnong tucked you in before patting your head and sleeping as well.
In the next morning, you woke up surprisingly well. You didn't know if it's because you were watching cartoons with Nongnong or that it was just Nongnong in general making you safe. You decided to head to the kitchen to grab something to drink but then your friends teased you to call your "boyfriend" out to have breakfast all together.
You then blushed and head back to the room, seeing Nongnong yawning as he sat on the bed, asking you if you had a good night sleep which you nodded and told him that the others are waiting for you both to have breakfast.
"Did you have a good night sleep (Y/N)?" Nongnong asked, still yawning
"Y-yea, I owe you Nong, thank you" you stuttered, looking away
"Oi, lovebirds!! Hurry up or you won't have any breakfast" your friends teased
"Let's not keep them waiting shall we sweetie?" Nongnong commented, getting up and stretching
"Wh-what?" you mumbled
"Oh, I thought you already know that I like you since I know that you like me" Nongnong mentioned
"Wh-what?! When?! Wh-when did I?! OH NO!!" you blabbed, covering your blushing face
"In your sleep, last night, right before I fell asleep. There's nothing to be shy about. I like you too (Y/N) <3, let's go eat!!" Nongnong exclaimed, grabbing your hand and dragging you out of the room
Fan Chengcheng
For this one, I imagine that you and Chengcheng were friends in high school. You knew him since back in junior high and while your first impression of him wasn't all that good since you thought he'd be a spoiled brat since he came from a wealthy family and the younger brother of one of the country's famous actress. But as it turns out, he was very hardworking despite not paying that much attention in class.
A/N: let's rewind a bit how you both got close
You were stuck as his lab partner for a whole year back in junior high which at first you didn't really want to since you knew he didn't pay attention in class that much and you'd worry that in the end, you'd have to do all the job while he just gets the credit. But nope, big mistake.
As soon you were paired up, Chengcheng didn't waste time asking for your contact after school and told you that you guys should stay at the library after school on the day of your lab so you can get the job done that day as well. Now, to say you were amazed was an understatement. You were practically impressed that Chengcheng understood most of the job and even concluded the paper.
But one time, you guys had to stay at the library till late at night and Chengcheng even ordered food the minute he heard your stomach grumble (cue you being embarrassed). Afterwards, you guys just talk over things like your likes and dislikes and Chengcheng even brought you home up till your doorstep. Ever since, the both of you have been inseparable. Well, that is until Chengcheng said he had to leave to join Idol Producer.
It was rough. He wasn't able to contact you since his phone was taken from him. However, you did try your best to send actual letters to him which surprisingly, he received and even send you back some letters as well. You wouldn't admit it but you miss him and actually have a crush on him. You were going to tell him but when he actually made it into 9%, you knew you wouldn't be able to stand a chance against all the other female artists so, you texted Cheng, saying your congratulations and the same time cut off your friendship, to the point you even blocked his number. You couldn't deal with heartbreaks because it was just too much and you really wanted Chengcheng to focus on his career.
Unfortunately, the past few days were not easy for you. It was very painful, especially seeing how happy Chengcheng was in L.A. You're sad and wasn't focused on school at all. But one Saturday morning changed everything for you. You had never been so thankful to be awake so early in the morning until this day.
It's been 2 weeks since you cut your friendship and any sort of communication with Chengcheng and during those 2 weeks, your sleep schedule was a mess to the point that today, you slept at 1 and suddenly woke up at 5(ish) in the morning. You twist and turn yet you still couldn't sleep. Eventually, it was 6 in the morning and you decided to just get up and have an early morning walk to clear your mind.
You got changed and pulled on your favourite coat (which was actually one of Chengcheng's but you forgot) and head out to walk around your neighbourhood. Until you stumble upon a familiar stair walk. It was one where you and Chengcheng hung out after you finished your report and heading back home. The memory caught you off-guard that tears started to stream down your face and you tried your best to wipe them until a familiar voice startled you.
"Are you crying because of stress because finals are in a month or because you haven't seen me in so long? Because I sure as hell miss talking to you, too" a familiar voice exclaimed
"OMO, Ch-cheng?! FAN CHENGCHENG?!" you blurted, whipping your head to see Chengcheng just a few flights below you
"I miss you too (Y/N). It was tough not being able to talk to you through those 4 months and even when I was in L.A." Chengcheng mumbled, walking towards you
"I--I'm sorry Cheng. I didn't want to interfere with your life. I know that you've wanted to become an idol/artist and I know I wouldn't exactly match the people you'll be hanging out, I--" you blabbled until Chengcheng pulled you into a hug, patting your head
"I don't care. Sure, I may meet lots of new people. But no one can replace you. Plus, who am I going to take with me to night markets when I'm hungry and take pretty pictures together with? Of course, that's you!! I wouldn't switch you for anyone or anything in the world. I don't care that you blocked my number because I can always put in my numbers again. So please, don't leave me. Now, let's go have breakfast, hmm?" Chengcheng grinned, pulling away from the hug, smiling as he tucked a hair behind my ear, caressing my cheek in the process
Justin Huang
aFor this, Imma do something slightly different than previous Justin scenarios. So, I'm going to imagine that you're Justin's senior back in primary school. Justin has a vivid memory of what you did for him (which was standing up to the bullies) but you didn't remember him that well since you had a 2 (almost 3) year gap.
*Also, let's say that you were in campus (3rd year) whilst Justin had just turned 19
You were just trying to have a nice "normal" day in school since finals were just right around the corner. Everything was going so well and finals were not bad at all. It was the studying process that was annoying to you because your dorm were filled with either parties or gossips all in the halls whilst the library of your campus was always hogged by random people (like hello? are you here to study or to live here?). Anyways, lucky for you, a small studying cafe just opened near your dorm and so you decided to just stay there and study.
The past few days were nice. The cafe was calm and everyone was either actually studying or chatting (but they weren't loud and unreasonable like those in campus). Until one time, there was this boy, looked like he's in his teens and forgot his wallet to pay since it seemed that his phone ran out of battery. Because the drink was already being made, he couldn't exactly cancel or anything. Sighing, you got up and decided to pay for the boy who turned to bow at you, thanking you. Until the boy looked up and immediately recognised you.
"Eh?! JIEJIE?! It's me!! Just....uhhh, how bout we sit down and talk" Justin softly exclaimed, grabbing you and went to sit back at your table
After a bit of talking, you were taken aback that the boy/junior you helped back then was now this handsome tall young man. The both of you talked quite a lot since it has been years since you last saw each other. The two of you exchanged contacts and Justin proposed that you'd meet up again since he was in town for a few weeks.
But that plan somewhat backfired since Justin couldn't wait to see you again so he just straight up went to meet you since you told him where you lived. Instead of being a "brat" like most kids his aged, he was very polite with your parents, telling them that whilst he was younger, he'll protect you and bring you back before 10pm.
It was nice to catch up with Justin. You realised how mature he is for his age and even had to miss out on normal teen stuff like going out with friends, struggling with assignments and finals together. But Justin said that while he does feel sad for missing out on lots of things, he said that he loves what he does and he learnt so much.
Everything was going well with the both of you until Justin's sasaengs finds out about you. Some made fake accounts, threatening you to stay away from Justin. You know better than to deal with those immatures so you just blocked them from your social media and went on with your life.
But damn the universe is testing you because some of the sasaengs actually go to the same campus as you do. The first few meetings with them were still manageable. But they aren't called sasaengs for nothing. Because it slowly escalated and things got more physical to the point you started to distance yourself from Justin.
But Justin noticed your change in behaviour. He was so fed up one day that he went all the way to your campus to figure out what has made you like this. He didn't care about the amount of ppl suddenly paying attention to him because all he cared about was finding you; which he found you exactly when the sasaengs attacked.
Immediately, he didn't waste any time and called mama Ting, telling him about the sasaengs and have him report them to the police or something. Justin then immediately called out the sasaengs, threatening them and telling everyone who was watching to never bully anyone ever again; regardless of the reasoning.
Justin then took you out of your campus and to the cafe where you guys first reconnect again. He apologised for getting you involved in this mess but the same time that he doesn't want to be separated from you; adding that he'll always be there like you did when you were young.
"Jie, why didn't you tell me? I know you're strong enough to take care of yourself. Heck!! You helped me back in primary school!! I grew up, getting stronger so one day when we meet again, you wouldn't think of me as a whimp" Justin exclaimed
"I never thought of you as a whimp, Justin. But sometimes, you just need an extra hand" you replied
"Look who's talking? But I'm serious jie. Please tell me whenever this happens. I'll show no mercy!!" Justin boasted
"Ya!! Just because you're famous and all, you shouldn't be like, especially towards women" you complained
"Hehehe, it's not that. It's just that ppl should get what they deserve. Anyways, I'm hungry, let's eat!! My treat!!" Justin exclaimed
Lin Yanjun
Help, I miss Yanjun so much :(( but for reals though, I don't want to pressure him or complain much because honestly, I can somewhat understand him since I'm an introvert too. Alright, I don't want to give off this negative energy so let's jump into the scenario :)
Alright, for this I'll imagine that you're visiting Yanjun who's in Taiwan because he was taking some rest. Honestly, you were quite nervous since you had never been to Taiwan and met Yanjun from work (this is a story for another time). One of the main reasons why you were nervous is because you were going to meet his parents and even spend your time living with him and his family when you don't really know their culture that well.
But honestly, there was nothing to worry about since Yanjun's parents heard nothing but good things from both Yanjun and even Zhangjing (since you were quite close with Zhangjing). When you arrived, you tried your best to be polite even though you were very awkward and stuttered a lot. But when Yanjun's sister came, she helped make you feel at home and ease despite being slightly younger than you.
Within hours, you and Yanjun's sister became close and she even shared some embarrassing moments of Yanjun to you (which Yanjun found out and deal with his siter later on). And within days, Yanjun's parents showed no signs of disliking you at all. Instead, you and his mom actually went to the market a few times together and even cooked together.
Time skip to a few days before you have to go back to your country
Yanjun's parents thought that it was a good idea for both you and Yanjun to go out, just the both of you since you had been spending so much time with his family and rarely went out with just Yanjun for a whole day. So, they set things up and made sure that it would just be the two of you; they even went as far as letting Yanjun use the car.
Yanjun already knew where he would take you; the ocean (one of his favourite places to be). When you arrived, you wasted no time and getting out of the car, taking off your shoes and running on the sand, barefeet; which of course, Yanjun chuckled whilst taking pictures of you.
The two of you left your shoes by the rocks so they wouldn't get taken by the ocean and walked hand in hand along the shoreline. Stopping right where the sun was setting and just lean on each other, enjoying the moment, until you noticed your shoes were getting taken by the ocean. You immediately rushed to get your shoes; forgetting that you couldn't really swim that well.
Eventually, Yanjun caught up with you and held you back, reminding you that you couldn't quite swim. Chuckling, he took off his jacket and handed it to you before going towards the ocean to get your shoes.
"Jun...be careful!!" you exclaimed
"I'll be fine (Y/N). You should be careful. I wouldn't want you to get wet and sick later on" Yanjun reminded you
"Hmm. OH!! You got it!! Thank you so much!!" you giggled, jumping a bit
"Hey, hey, be careful!!" Yanjun reminded as you jumped to hug him
"You know, you're similar to the ocean. You're as cool, calm and collective when you need to but the same time you're there whenever people needs you just like how humans need water. You also help people calm down when they feel frustrated. You make me feel safe. You make me relax when I feel nervous" you blurted, hugging Yanjun tightly as you inhaled his scent
"(Y/N)..." Yanjun muttered
"Which makes me confused why would you choose a child-like, hard-headed, weirdo..." you mumbled, but Yanjun shut you up by pecking your lips
"Because, isn't that how magnet works? Opposites attract each other. Though I'd say that we are quite similar in the hard-headed side but at least we're willing to tone that down. But for reals, while I make you calm, you make me excited. You burst me up. You're like a happy pill and I'm addicted to you. Now, let's head back, mom and dad made hotpot for dinner. C'mon, I'll carry you whilst you just hold onto our shoes" Yanjun chuckled as you went on his back, leaning on him whilst talking about where you guys should have a date next
Zhu Zhengting
For mama Ting, I imagine that you have this upcoming show which was your first live stage show. And while you were just a backup dancer, you were still one of the best dancers in Yuehua despite only being hired for a couple of months.
You were so excited and can't wait since you've been practicing very hard the past few days, along with helping Zhengting since he asked you to be his dancing partner for his new mv that's coming out in a month. Speaking of Zhengting, it was him that actually recommended you to Yuehua and him that got you hired in the first place.
Anywho, it was finally showtime and you had just finished getting ready with the rest of the backup dancers. And ofc, you, along with the other backup dancers helped kill the show that the crowd was cheering loudly.
After the show was over, you all took pictures with the artist and a few individual pictures before the stage manager called it a wrap. You then went to go get changed when Zhengting texted you, asking to meet up in the dance practice room you guys normally used.
You told him that you just finished changing and will be there in 10 minutes. Upon arriving, you looked around to find Zhengting and was shocked when he softly called you out whilst holding a boquet of flowers.
"Ting? What's all this? Are you gonna meet up with someone?" you questioned, tilting your head slightly "This is for you!! Congratulations on your first live stage performance!!" Zhengting mentioned, handing you the flowers
"Ahhh, isn't this a bit too much? I was just a backup dancer anyways..." you muttered, looking down at the flowers, avoiding Zhengting's gaze
"Well, you won't be for long. I want you to dance with me, live. Roughly a month or two after the mv comes out. If you don't mind that is" Zhengting asked, scratching his head
"Wh, what? Are you serious?! Like legit? Not joking?! Cause if you're serious then ofc I would love to!!" you exclaimed
"Re-really?! Oh I feel so relieved. I was afraid you'd reject me. I mean my offer. I uhhhh...." Zhengting stuttered
"Relax. I'd never reject your offer. Or even you, Ting. You helped me get this far. Plus, I think I'd be the one to worry if you'd reject me..." you mumbled, fiddling with your fingers
"What?! No, why would I ever reject you, (Y/N). You're pretty, smart, talented, kind. You're an amazing person. If you don't believe me then let's go have dinner, I know you must be starving, c'mon, my treat!!" Zhengting mentioned, grabbing you and dashing off to eat hotpot
Wang Ziyi
For Ziyi, I imagine that you guys were spending the day to the amusement park that was near the beach as well. So, the plan was for you both to go to the amusement park as soon as it opens and ride as much rides as possible before 4pm then head to the beach and jusy chill till dinner time.
You were so excited since it's been so long since you went to an amusement park and beach. Now, the reasoning why you chose this specific amusement park wasn't just because it was right beside the beach. But also where you and Ziyi got to actually know each other.
Let's rewind a bit shall we
So, you guys were high school friends and one time your squad wanted to go to the amusement park so ofc, you joined in. But what you didn't know was that Ziyi (the school's best basketball player) and his squad were also joining (mainly because 2 of his friends and 2 of yours were dating).
Anyways, the whole day wasn't that bad until sometime before you all decided to leave for the beach, your friends sorta ditched you; even when you tried to text/call them. Now, you were left right by the food stands, sitting on one of the benches whilst waiting for any news you get from your friends.
But it wasn't just you that was "ditched" by your friends. Because not long after, Ziyi came and sat beside you, asking if you were also "ditched" by your friends to which you chuckled, telling him that they must've went on other rides. But you were actually grateful that they did. Because now, you were Ziyi's close friend.
To present time
After riding on several rides, you guys went to have lunch at the nearby food court before going back and playing the rides up until it was almost sundown.
Realising what time it was, you asked Ziyi if there were anymore rides he wanted to go on which he shook his head and instead, asked you if you wanted to go on anymore rides. To which you also shook your head. Ziyi then asked if you wanted to go to the beach which u instantly nodded.
But as you guys were walking, you saw a small food stand, selling one of your favourite snacks to the point you instantly rushed over to the food stall and grab some food, nudging Ziyi to hurry and come choose what he wants.
"Ziyi!! Hurry up!! Choose which one you want!!" you called out
"I'm coming (Y/N), don't buy too much things. We need room for dinner" Ziyi chuckled, rushing to your side
"I will always have room for dinner!! Food is life!!" you exclaimed, as you choose your snacks while Ziyi looked at you and chuckled
Xiao Gui
For Xiaogui, let's say that you guys have been friends since young and he would always be there for you since he's always so hyper while you were so shy in making friends.
Throughout your school life till high school, Xiao gui has always been there to help you make new friends and study (ocassionally). Not to mention, you were the one to come up with his nickname, Xiao Gui. But unfortunately he had to leave to join idol producer. But that never stopped you guys from sending each other letters/text (when he got his phone).
Time skip to your university graduation
While Xiao gui was busy with his idol life since he debutted in 9%, you were busy with school and now, after so long, you were finishing your degree.
After the ceremony and getting your actual degree, you and your friends were heading to take pictures. But as you were taking pictures, your friends told you to stay there for a bit whilst they go grab a quick drink.
But as your friends left, you saw a familiar figure, holding a boquet of flowers, heading your way. As they got closer, you realised that it was actually Xiao Gui.
"G-gui? Is that you? What are you doing here? Don't you have an event or something to attend?" you asked in shock
"Of course I do. It's your graduation. You didn't think I'd miss this out now did you? Look at you, dressed up like this. Last time I saw you all dressed up was...." Xiao gui commented
"The day you debutted with the other 8 as 9%" you replied, giggling at the memory
"Yea. You were with me since the beginning even until I debut and now. I'm sorry I couldn't have come sooner but here, happy graduation (Y/N)" Xiao Gui muttered, handing you the flowers
"Th-thank you, Gui. How bout we catch up over dinner?" you mumbled
"Of course, then we can go get dessert at your favourite place!!" Xiao Gui exclaimed, holding your hand as he slowly pulled you with him
"I miss you so much, Linkai" you admitted
"I miss you too (Y/N)" Xiaogui replied, a big grin formed on his face
You Zhangjing
Tbh Zhangjing's one is quite hard but I tried my best :"
Alright, for Zhangjing, I imagine that he asked you to join him to shoot for his new mv which of course you quickly agreed, not thinking twice on where, when and what is it.
You can say that it was somewhat of a mistake since the mv is a more romantic one than his previous mv(s). Not only that, on the day of the actual shoot, you were stunned on how good Zhangjing looked since he mostly wore a baggy T-shirt with sweatpants.
But this time, he dressed up so good that your mind can't comprehend. Even when it was time to shoot, your mind wondered off elsewhere until Zhangjing actually called out to you.
Thankfully, throughout the entire shoot, there were minimal errors and you didn't have to reshoot so much. And it was the final shot where both you and Zhangjing were hand in hand walking together.
Right as the camera was rolling, you were a bit distracted by the scenery of the place you were shooting that Zhangjing had to call you several times which makes you shock but Zhangjing just chuckled and extended his hand out to you which you shyly took, and as Zhangjing faced the other side, you couldn't help but blush to see this amazing view.
"(Y/N)?" Zhangjing called out
"Hmmm??? Oh sorry, the scenery was so pretty that I couldn't help but get distracted" you admitted
"It's alright, c'mon, let's just enjoy the view then" Zhangjing mentioned, extending his hand
"Hmmm. It's nice, we should go out more often" you mumbled, taking Zhangjing's hand then facing off to the scenery together
Tear In My Heart
pairing: kirishima eijirou x vigilante reader
wc: 1908
genre: songfic, angst, fluff
warnings: mentions of blood/injuries
tear in my heart - twenty one pilots
Kirishima
It was nighttime when I was ordered to guard in Hosu City, in patrol of villains making crimes around. Yes, I'm a certified hero now and I just finished taking down a criminal with a laser quirk, and I'm on the way to my agency to turn over him.
"That's Red Riot for you!" Tetsutetsu greeted me while the police restrained the criminal. We did their usual brofist, "You alright, bro?"
"Why woudn't I be? I'll stay here for the whole night to catch and drive the villains away."
"Anyway, Fourth Kind said you can go home now. The others and I will take over here. Get a rest, man! See you tomorrow!"
"Oh, yeah, see you!" He patted my shoulder as I left to change clothes.
Sometimes you gotta bleed to know That you're alive and have a soul
I finished changing, then I got outside and saw my friends.
"Hey, Kirishimaaaa!" Ashido and Kaminari loudly greeted.
"Hey guys! You finished in your shift? Where's Sero and Bakugou?" I asked.
"Yep! They're on the morning shift now so we won't we seeing them in this month," Ashido replied.
"Dude, your Hero name is so famous around these areas! You sure are close with people after you rescue them, I'm envious!" Kaminari said.
"Don't be, Kaminari. Maybe someday you'll get known too."
"I hope so."
But it takes someone to come around, To show you how
After a litte chitchat they bid a goodbye and I got inside my car and drove it in a moderate speed. When I stopped in the red light, I remembered something important. I haven't texted hy girlfriend for the whole time!
She's the tear in my heart, I'm alive She's the tear in my heart, I'm on fire
Crap, I hope she's not mad at me!
I grabbed my phone and my fingers typed quickly, apologizing for not talking with her. She didn't reply, which made me more worried. I sighed and continued driving.
She's the tear in my heart, Take me higher, than I've ever been
Few minutes later, I still didn't get a reply. Maybe she's really angry, so I made my way to her apartment. While driving, I smiled when I suddenly remembered the first time we met. It was a year ago, in my first hero job.
A car accidentally crashed on her while she was crossing a road, severely injuring her leg. I was on the patrol so I rushed to rescue her. I took her to the hospital and visited her everyday till she gained conciousness. And when she did, God knows how I was caught in her beauty.
The songs on the radio are okay But my taste in music is your face
Since her parents were already gone and her older brother was working overseas, I was the one who took care of her, other than the hospital nurse. We soon got closer and talked with deeper topics, like our chilhood, families, and random experiences. It was really fun to be with her.
When she got better and was able to get out of the hospital, we exchanged numbers, and texted almost every hour.
But it takes a song to come around, To show you how
I also took her on a lot of dates, before we admitted our feelings to each other and her and I became 'we'.
I was taken back to the reality by my phone beeping. At last, she replied! Although, her text is just composed of a location that was 2 blocks away from me. I decided to go since I trust her and I think she's already there.
She's the tear in my heart, I'm alive
I drove on the way but all I found was a dark alley. It was very quiet and shady, why would my girlfriend lead me here? I walked inside, but I came up with my fighting stance in case something bad happens.
"Hello? (Y/N)? Are you here?" I called.
She's the tear in my heart, I'm on fire
No response. I continued to walked, until a figure showed up above me. I fought to restrain it, but I feel like its fighting back so desperately, so I decided to back off a bit and let it pin me on the ground.
She's the tear in my heart, Take me higher, than I've ever been
It was panting hard, but still managed to restrain my wrists. I looked at its face, and when the light of the moon showed up, I instantly recognized her face.
Than I've ever been...
"K-Kirishima?" She weakly said.
"(Y/N)!" She let go of my wrists as I got up and held her in my arms, "Are you okay? Hey!"
Than I've ever been...
"I think I'm alright... but I'm glad you came."
"What happened?"
Than I've ever been...
"K-Kirishima... I'm tired. I-I can tell you when we get to your place..."
I quickly carried her to my car and laid her down for her to rest. Now, I noticed that she has wounds and bruises on her arms, and her stomach has a blood stain. I have a hunch on what happened, but I'll ask it to her later.
You fell asleep in my car, I drove the whole time But that's okay I'll just avoid the holes So you'll sleep fine
I started to drive, but the road holes makes it hard to drive properly. (Y/N) might wake up because of my recklessness, so I decided to drive slowly.
I'm driving here I sit, Cursing my government For not using my taxes To fill the holes with more cement
I observed her sleeping figure at peace before taking my focus on the road. There's a lot of road holes, I wondered where it came from, since its still fine when I passed here. Maybe its the villians' or hero's battle fault.
You fell asleep in my car, I drove the whole time But that's okay I'll just avoid the holes So you'll sleep fine
I'm driving here I sit, Cursing my government For not using my taxes To fill the holes with more cement
When I reached my house, I parked my car in my garage and carried her out of the car then inside. I laid her on the bed and get a medical kit to treat her wounds. It wasn't too deep or serious, but its many. I raised her shirt, but first I promised not to do inappropriate things, and proceeded on treating on a medium sized cut on her stomach.
Sometimes you gotta need to know That you're alive and have a soul
I covered her wounds and cuts with a clean gauze and band aids, and that's when she woke up.
"Oh, sorry to wake you up, (Y/N). You can go to sleep now. I treated your wounds now, don't worry."
I was about to stand up and get her a blanket, but she pulled me back and hugged me from behind.
But it takes someone to come around, To show you how
"(Y/N)? Is there something wrong?"
She muttered, "Stay..."
I did what she said and sat beside the bed. I sighed and asked her again.
"You're still continuing your vigilante activities, aren't you?"
She's the tear in my heart, I'm alive She's the tear in my heart, I'm on fire
"Yes."
"Are you mad at me?"
"Yes."
She's the tear in my heart, Take me higher, than I've ever been
"I'm sorry for not texting you for the whole day, but (Y/N), I told you to stay out of danger! We've been through a lot of arguments here! First off, there are strong villains scattered everywhere, and second, you don't have a Hero License, so the authorities can arrest you when they caught you! You're between the two parties, and when you mess up, none of those sides will help and rescue you!"
A sound of a slap echoed through the room.
My heart, is my armor She's the tear in my heart
She replied, sobbing, "So are you underestimating me? Do you not believe and trust my abilities? And what do you mean that none of those two sides will help? You are on the heroes' side aren't you? Won't you come and rescue me if I'm about to get killed? Will you forget me for your commitment in the Heroes' society? God damn it, Eijirou! I'm being a hero in my own way because the society rejected my ideology and ability!"
She let go of me and cried. I felt bad for making her cry, but I just had to tell those things.
"I thought you understand me, Eijirou, but now I felt that you're just the same as the others! I hate you, Eijirou! I really hate you!"
She's a carver, She's a butcher with a smile
I moved to reach her but she slapped my hand away. That didn't stop me though, I still hugged her, even if she's struggling against my grip.
"Let go of me, Eijirou! I'm leaving now!"
Cut me farther, Than I've ever been
She beat my chest multiple times, but I refused to loosen my embrace. I held her tight and forced her against my chest, trying to stop her from moving.
"I'll never let go of you, (Y/N). You know that well."
Than I've ever been...
She ceased, but she gripped the sleeves of my shirt, tugging it and continued crying in it. I patted her hair and back.
"I just said those things because... I was worried. I don't want you getting hurt. I'm sorry for being hard on your feelings, (Y/N). I'm really sorry."
Than I've ever been...
"I-I was worried too. You didn't message me for the whole day. That wasn't your habit, so I went out to find you but I messed with some villains who was breaking in the bank in my way." She managed to say between sobs.
Oh, than I've ever been...
I kissed her forehead, "I'm glad you're safe."
"But Eijirou... about earlier. Aren't you going to come to me when you're stuck in your hero work and I'm in terrible danger? Please, answer me honestly."
My heart, is my armor She's the tear in my heart
"Of course not. I promise with all my heart that you'll be my first priority. I know I'm the only one, and once I'm not around you anymore, promise me to take care of yourself, okay?"
You turned away, "Don't say that. It scares me."
"Just do it."
"I promise not to make a fuss and take care of myself when Kirishima Eijirou is not around anymore."
She's the tear in my heart, She's a carver
"I hope that time won't come." She mumbled.
I held a stray strand of her hair and tucked it beside her ear, then placed my hand on her cheek, "You're so beautiful, (Y/N). I can never think of losing you."
She's a butcher with a smile, Cut me farther,
"I love you, (Y/N)."
"I love you too, Eijirou."
Than I've ever been.
I leaned in and gave her the most passionate kiss I can give, and at that time, I feel very happy and secured with her. I could tell she feels the same because tears stopped flowing from her eyes.
Loving makes you feel alive, after all.
Me: *looks at completed homework* *looks at Jessie* *looks at homework* Now that I have my freedom your heart is in danger once again. Be warned brave friend.
Also me: JANUS!! GET YOUR BLOND HEAD OUT HERE!!! I NEED YOU AGAIN!
faintly in the distance: noooooooo
~~~~~~~~
All the sides were wearing black.
They just got home from a very sad event that day, no one wanted to say the title out loud because they couldn't accept that he was gone. Rain hit the mindscape windows, similarly, tears were streaming down all of their faces.
After the event, all the sides went to their rooms. All except a certain dark blue side.
Logan was on the couch. Black suit being crumpled by the lax sitting position. In his shaking hands was held a letter. Everyone had at least one letter. Logan had the most with five letters. Each one had a number.
Logan grabbed the letter labeled #1
It was of medium size. White envelope contrasting with the red wax used to seal it. The only thing that marked that it was for him was the blue ink used to mark his name.
Trying not to tear the paper. Logan opened the letter and started to read.
Dear Logan,
I guess if you're reading this I'm gone. To that fact, I'm truly sorry. I wish I could be there. But this is for the best.
I suppose you know what happened to the dark side by now. If you don't well.... Its gone. Wrath, Apathy and Depression were just getting too powerful, it didn't matter how much I hid them away they still got to Thomas... and I can't have them destroying Thomas's life. I need to do my job, even if it kills me. I really did enjoy your company! I hope you know that.
Often times the only thing that could get me out of the bed in the morning was being able to see your face. Or being able to debate with you. Or seeing you talk about space for hours! God Logan, I could go on for hours about how you made my horrid life better. You were my best friend.
These letters are going to be written over a period of time. I don't think I have it in me to say goodbye to the 5 people who made my life tolerable all at once. I'm going to be writing one letter a day. Till tomorrow Logan?
~Deceit Sanders
Logan let out a steady breath. He refused to cry over the first letter. He debated over reading all of the letters at once but.... Janus said tomorrow... He'll read letter #2 the following day.
The next morning was just as somber. Logan sat on his bed and gripped the second letter.
This one was the same size, but the envelope was a light baby blue. The seal black. Logan opened it with just as much care as before.
Hello Logan
Another day, another migraine? I get it... Not the time for jokes. I just finished writing Roman's second letter. I always felt so bad for everything involving Roman.
I manipulated him, I told him lies, I compared him to his brother. Kinda makes me deserve this I have a feeling he might try something. Snake instincts. Watch him for me, please? You five need to be a family, I've witnessed what happens to sides to end up hating eachother. Its not pretty. You don't want that Logan.
I guess that is what makes me have to do this. If we only acted like a family I wouldn't have to do this. I wouldn't have to do a lot of things if the darks weren't pricks.
The stupid thing is that I know you would try to talk me out of this plan. And you're right. God you're always right. Why do you have to be right all the time? I wish I was right all the time. But its ok. I'll be the side who hides the truth.
Blessings and a curses, right?
I'll write to you again tomorrow Logan
~ Janus Deceit Sanders
Logan gulped in another breath. He could read that crossed out section... Janus was right. They have to be there for eachother.
Why don't they go watch Janus' favourite movies? That sounds like a fun way to remember someone. Logan got the others.
-time skip-
It was just passed midnight. Everyone else was asleep on the couch as Coraline played on the TV. Logan stared at the third letter. It was technically the next day.... Logan grabbed the letter.
This letters envelope was a burnt tan colour. Yellow wax acted as the seal.
My dear, Logan
I never wanted to be hugged so much then I do right now. I have to barricade my door to prevent Wrath from getting inside, he's always been a loud side.
I remember when I was nothing but a child -Virgil is ten years older then me. Did you know that? I forget that sometimes- I always had blond hair. I know that you and the other lights also have lighter coloured hair. Well anyway. Wrath hates my hair, says that I don't belong. I can also only do that little silencing trick when I'm on your side of the mind. And I can only automatically heal when on the light side too. Huh. I never released how long that list was. Maybe I'm just defective... That has to be it... Right?
I always looked up to you. You could tell people how it was and not cower when things go wrong. You truly are amazing Logan. You need to show the others that. I know that the others love and care for you. You need to accept that love logan! Please. Don't fall into a similar pit of despair I fell into so long ago. I never escaped that pit. Don't fall in it too.
I know how you like to cope Logan. You seek familiar things that remind you of that person. Thats why I did something for you. Under your bed is my all time favourite book, Good Omens, My favourite snacks and an USB with my playlist on it. I hope you love them as much as I did Logan. I'll write to you tomorrow.
~Janus Sanders
Janus wasn't lying when he found the little care package. Logan wasn't crying. Absolutely not! Patton was cooking with onions. Logan never released how much he loved chocolate covered pretzels and jazz until that moment.
The next day Logan didn't even bother to get dressed. He just grabbed the next letter. A soft pastel yellow with a blue seal. Logan tore it open, eger to read what the yellow side wrote next.
Dear Bluebell,
Kinda weird calling you that. But I guess I won't be alive long enough to see your negative reaction. Bluebells were always my favourite flower. Would it be rude to keep calling you bluebell? Well, I guess it's a little too late for that.
It just came to my attention that by this time tomorrow I'm going to be...Gone. I made the poison that would get rid of them. My venom is one of the only things that can kill a side. Would be a bit ironic dying from my own venom huh? Well, I might as well tell you my plan.
Do you remember that party you and the others snuck into? The masquerade? We're having another party tomorrow. And it was always my job to serve the wine. We can't have the others being suspicious to why I didn't drink my wine. They will be dead in less then ten minutes. My venom is painful. But it'll kill them. I'll kill them 10x over, I'm not looking forward to five minutes in where the venom shuts down your lungs.
Anyway, I'm a side known for plans right? Not always the best plans but it counts. I still remember debating with you as Patton. Maybe... Maybe I could sneak over today? Pathetic last wish, but I would love to have a hug and a movie. I'm going to head over to your side soon.
Bluebell Logan when I'm gone. I need you to do something for me. Don't let them forget me...Please. That is all I want. I don't want my body to be left inside of that empty house. I don't want to die next to the people I hate the most. All I ever wanted was to see you smile. I'll see you later today.
~Bumblebee
Logan was crying. That day... Janus asked for a hug and a movie.
He only gave Janus a hug after the look of heart break was too much for him to bear. Logan didn't wait to grab the next letter.
My Beloved Bluebell
Today is the day, I never thought I would admit this but... I'm scared. Do you think that there is Heaven and Hell for sides? If there is I guess I'm going to hell. Suicide is a sin. Not like anything else I've done deserves heaven.
I don't have very long for this letter. 30 minutes. I have 30 minutes till my heart stops. God I'm terrified. This is the last letter I'm writing Logan. I finished writing Virgil's letters yesterday. All thats left is your letter. And holy fuck I'm scared.
I have to do this, I overheard Wrath making a plan to overthrow the mind. I can't let that happen. I would fail at my only job. It doesn't matter if I'm scared or not, I need to do my job. Thomas would suffer if I didn't.
20 minuites, I have ten minutes till the party. My hand is shaking. Can you tell from my writing? I hope you can still read this. If you can't the letter is pointless.
Logan, I know that this is never something you would reciprocate but...
I love you. I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. I wanted to take you to the moon for a honeymoon and take you dancing among the stars. I wanted to be the tired husband that has to deal with your legionds of roommates. Logan I love you so god damn much I can't put it into words. I know you could never love me though. Its ok.
Take care of yourself for me please. Don't let your beautiful family fall apart. Don't let the despair of my death cause one of yours. Don't let one of the others blame themselves. This is no ones fault but mine.
I love you
~Janus Sanders
Logan dropped the letter and let out the most agonizing scream that could ever come out of his mouth. He cried. He cried and cried and cried. He cried until no more sound came out and his eyes burned.
He didn't notice when the other four came into the room and held him close.
All Logan did was trace the words on the page.
"I love you too, my bumblebee."
The sides could only feel the hole in their heart grow bigger.
~~~~~
I made myself sad again. I CAN'T EVEN CRY! MY PARENTS ARE IN THE ROOM! Curse my own brain ;-;
Here it is!
The Great Gatsby .. I think antibucci Summary: Literally just the great Gatsby. Nothing else here. Absolutely no changes. Definitely use this for class, or reference. The Great Gatsby is public domain now after all. Anyways here's the totally unaltered and complete book of the Great Gatsby. I swear nothing was changed, most definitely. Of course credit to F Scott Fitzgerald for writing this commentary on both his life and the world he was in. A lot of this can still relate today, so keep an open mind when reading. Notes: I'd like to preface this by saying... This is really I mean REALLY just the Great Gatsby. I swear. There is nothing going here that is out of the ordinary! Nothing at all! Chapter 1 Chapter Text Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her; If you can bounce high, bounce for her too, Till she cry “Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover, I must have you!” - Thomas Parke D'Invilliers. In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since. “Whenever you feel like criticizing any one,” he told me, “just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.” He didn’t say any more, but we’ve always been unusually communicative in a reserved way, and I understood that he meant a great deal more than that. In consequence, I’m inclined to reserve all judgments, a habit that has opened up many curious natures to me and also made me the victim of not a few veteran bores. The abnormal mind is quick to detect and attach itself to this quality when it appears in a normal person, and so it came about that in college I was unjustly accused of being a politician, because I was privy to the secret griefs of wild, unknown men. Most of the confidences were unsought — frequently I have feigned sleep, preoccupation, or a hostile levity when I realized by some unmistakable sign that an intimate revelation was quivering on the horizon; for the intimate revelations of young men, or at least the terms in which they express them, are usually plagiaristic and marred by obvious suppressions. Reserving judgments is a matter of infinite hope. I am still a little afraid of missing something if I forget that, as my father snobbishly suggested, and I snobbishly repeat, a sense of the fundamental decencies is parcelled out unequally at birth. And, after boasting this way of my tolerance, I come to the admission that it has a limit. Conduct may be founded on the hard rock or the wet marshes, but after a certain point I don’t care what it’s founded on. When I came back from the East last autumn I felt that I wanted the world to be in uniform and at a sort of moral attention forever; I wanted no more riotous excursions with privileged glimpses into the human heart. Only Gatsby, the man who gives his name to this book, was exempt from my reaction — Gatsby, who represented everything for which I have an unaffected scorn. If personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures, then there was something gorgeous about him, some heightened sensitivity to the promises of life, as if he were related to one of those intricate machines that register earthquakes ten thousand miles away. This responsiveness had nothing to do with that flabby impressionability which is dignified under the name of the “creative temperament.”— it was an extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person and which it is not likely I shall ever find again. No — Gatsby turned out all right at the end; it is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrows and short-winded elations of men. My family have been prominent, well-to-do people in this Middle Western city for three generations. The Carraways are something of a clan, and we have a tradition that we’re descended from the Dukes of Buccleuch, but the actual founder of my line was my grandfather’s brother, who came here in fifty-one, sent a substitute to the Civil War, and started the
wholesale hardware business that my father carries on to-day. I never saw this great-uncle, but I’m supposed to look like him — with special reference to the rather hard-boiled painting that hangs in father’s office I graduated from New Haven in 1915, just a quarter of a century after my father, and a little later I participated in that delayed Teutonic migration known as the Great War. I enjoyed the counter-raid so thoroughly that I came back restless. Instead of being the warm centre of the world, the Middle West now seemed like the ragged edge of the universe — so I decided to go East and learn the bond business. Everybody I knew was in the bond business, so I supposed it could support one more single man. All my aunts and uncles talked it over as if they were choosing a prep school for me, and finally said, “Why — ye — es,” with very grave, hesitant faces. Father agreed to finance me for a year, and after various delays I came East, permanently, I thought, in the spring of twenty-two. The practical thing was to find rooms in the city, but it was a warm season, and I had just left a country of wide lawns and friendly trees, so when a young man at the office suggested that we take a house together in a commuting town, it sounded like a great idea. He found the house, a weather-beaten cardboard bungalow at eighty a month, but at the last minute the firm ordered him to Washington, and I went out to the country alone. I had a dog — at least I had him for a few days until he ran away — and an old Dodge and a Finnish woman, who made my bed and cooked breakfast and muttered Finnish wisdom to herself over the electric stove. It was lonely for a day or so until one morning some man, more recently arrived than I, stopped me on the road. “How do you get to West Egg village?” he asked helplessly. I told him. And as I walked on I was lonely no longer. I was a guide, a pathfinder, an original settler. He had casually conferred on me the freedom of the neighborhood. And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees—just as things grow in fast movies—I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer. There was so much to read for one thing and so much fine health to be pulled down out of the young breath-giving air. I bought a dozen volumes on banking and credit and investment securities and they stood on my shelf in red and gold like new money from the mint, promising to unfold the shining secrets that only Midas and Morgan and Maecenas knew. And I had the high intention of reading many other books besides. I was rather literary in college—one year I wrote a series of very solemn and obvious editorials for the "Yale News"—and now I was going to bring back all such things into my life and become again that most limited of all specialists, the "well-rounded man." This isn't just an epigram—life is much more successfully looked at from a single window, after all. It was a matter of chance that I should have rented a house in one of the strangest communities in North America. It was on that slender riotous island which extends itself due east of New York and where there are, among other natural curiosities, two unusual formations of land. Twenty miles from the city a pair of enormous eggs, identical in contour and separated only by a courtesy bay, jut out into the most domesticated body of salt water in the Western Hemisphere, the great wet barnyard of Long Island Sound. They are not perfect ovals—like the egg in the Columbus story they are both crushed flat at the contact end—but their physical resemblance must be a source of perpetual confusion to the gulls that fly overhead. To the wingless a more arresting phenomenon is their dissimilarity in every particular except shape and size. I lived at West Egg, the—well, the less fashionable of the two, though this is a most superficial tag to express the bizarre and not a little sinister contrast between them. My house was at the very tip of the egg, only fifty yards from the Sound, and squeezed between two huge places that rented
rented for twelve or fifteen thousand a season. The one on my right was a colossal affair by any standard—it was a factual imitation of some Hôtel de Ville in Normandy, with a tower on one side, spanking new under a thin beard of raw ivy, and a marble swimming pool and more than forty acres of lawn and garden. It was Gatsby's mansion. Or rather, as I didn't know Mr. Gatsby it was a mansion inhabited by a gentleman of that name. My own house was an eye-sore, but it was a small eye-sore, and it had been overlooked, so I had a view of the water, a partial view of my neighbor's lawn, and the consoling proximity of millionaires—all for eighty dollars a month. Across the courtesy bay the white palaces of fashionable East Egg glittered along the water, and the history of the summer really begins on the evening I drove over there to have dinner with the Tom Buchanans. Daisy was my second cousin once removed and I'd known Tom in college. And just after the war I spent two days with them in Chicago. Her husband, among various physical accomplishments, had been one of the most powerful ends that ever played football at New Haven—a national figure in a way, one of those men who reach such an acute limited excellence at twenty-one that everything afterward savors of anti-climax. His family were enormously wealthy—even in college his freedom with money was a matter for reproach—but now he'd left Chicago and come east in a fashion that rather took your breath away: for instance he'd brought down a string of polo ponies from Lake Forest. It was hard to realize that a man in my own generation was wealthy enough to do that. Why they came east I don't know. They had spent a year in France, for no particular reason, and then drifted here and there unrestfully wherever people played polo and were rich together. This was a permanent move, said Daisy over the telephone, but I didn't believe it—I had no sight into Daisy's heart but I felt that Tom would drift on forever seeking a little wistfully for the dramatic turbulence of some irrecoverable football game. And so it happened that on a warm windy evening I drove over to East Egg to see two old friends whom I scarcely knew at all. Their house was even more elaborate than I expected, a cheerful red and white Georgian Colonial mansion overlooking the bay. The lawn started at the beach and ran toward the front door for a quarter of a mile, jumping over sun-dials and brick walks and burning gardens—finally when it reached the house drifting up the side in bright vines as though from the momentum of its run. The front was broken by a line of French windows, glowing now with reflected gold, and wide open to the warm windy afternoon, and Tom Buchanan in riding clothes was standing with his legs apart on the front porch. He had changed since his New Haven years. Now he was a sturdy, straw haired man of thirty with a rather hard mouth and a supercilious manner. Two shining, arrogant eyes had established dominance over his face and gave him the appearance of always leaning aggressively forward. Not even the effeminate swank of his riding clothes could hide the enormous power of that body—he seemed to fill those glistening boots until he strained the top lacing and you could see a great pack of muscle shifting when his shoulder moved under his thin coat. It was a body capable of enormous leverage—a cruel body. His speaking voice, a gruff husky tenor, added to the impression of fractiousness he conveyed. There was a touch of paternal contempt in it, even toward people he liked—and there were men at New Haven who had hated his guts. "Now, don't think my opinion on these matters is final," he seemed to say, "just because I'm stronger and more of a man than you are." We were in the same Senior Society, and while we were never intimate I always had the impression that he approved of me and wanted me to like him with some harsh, defiant wistfulness of his own. We talked for a few minutes on the sunny porch. "I've got a nice place here," he said, his eyes flashing about restlessly. Turning me around by one arm
he moved a broad flat hand along the front vista, including in its sweep a sunken Italian garden, a half acre of deep pungent roses and a snub-nosed motor boat that bumped the tide off shore. "It belonged to Demaine the oil man." He turned me around again, politely and abruptly. "We'll go inside." We walked through a high hallway into a bright rosy-colored space, fragilely bound into the house by French windows at either end. The windows were ajar and gleaming white against the fresh grass outside that seemed to grow a little way into the house. A breeze blew through the room, blew curtains in at one end and out the other like pale flags, twisting them up toward the frosted wedding cake of the ceiling—and then rippled over the wine-colored rug, making a shadow on it as wind does on the sea. The only completely stationary object in the room was an enormous couch on which two young women were buoyed up as though upon an anchored balloon. They were both in white and their dresses were rippling and fluttering as if they had just been blown back in after a short flight around the house. I must have stood for a few moments listening to the whip and snap of the curtains and the groan of a picture on the wall. Then there was a boom as Tom Buchanan shut the rear windows and the caught wind died out about the room and the curtains and the rugs and the two young women ballooned slowly to the floor. The younger of the two was a stranger to me. She was extended full length at her end of the divan, completely motionless and with her chin raised a little as if she were balancing something on it which was quite likely to fall. If she saw me out of the corner of her eyes she gave no hint of it—indeed, I was almost surprised into murmuring an apology for having disturbed her by coming in. The other girl, Daisy, made an attempt to rise—she leaned slightly forward with a conscientious expression—then she laughed, an absurd, charming little laugh, and I laughed too and came forward into the room. "I'm p-paralyzed with happiness." She laughed again, as if she said something very witty, and held my hand for a moment, looking up into my face, promising that there was no one in the world she so much wanted to see. That was a way she had. She hinted in a murmur that the surname of the balancing girl was Baker. (I've heard it said that Daisy's murmur was only to make people lean toward her; an irrelevant criticism that made it no less charming.) At any rate Miss Baker's lips fluttered, she nodded at me almost imperceptibly and then quickly tipped her head back again—the object she was balancing had obviously tottered a little and given her something of a fright. Again a sort of apology arose to my lips. Almost any exhibition of complete self sufficiency draws a stunned tribute from me. I looked back at my cousin who began to ask me questions in her low, thrilling voice. It was the kind of voice that the ear follows up and down as if each speech is an arrangement of notes that will never be played again. Her face was sad and lovely with bright things in it, bright eyes and a bright passionate mouth—but there was an excitement in her voice that men who had cared for her found difficult to forget: a singing compulsion, a whispered "Listen," a promise that she had done gay, exciting things just a while since and that there were gay, exciting things hovering in the next hour. I told her how I had stopped off in Chicago for a day on my way east and how a dozen people had sent their love through me. "Do they miss me?" she cried ecstatically. "The whole town is desolate. All the cars have the left rear wheel painted black as a mourning wreath and there's a persistent wail all night along the North Shore." "How gorgeous! Let's go back, Tom. Tomorrow!" Then she added irrelevantly, "You ought to see the baby." "I'd like to." "She's asleep. She's two years old. Haven't you ever seen her?" "Never." "Well, you ought to see her. She's—" Tom Buchanan who had been hovering restlessly about the room stopped and rested his hand on my shoulder. "What you doing, Nick
?" "I'm a bond man." "Who with?" I told him. "Never heard of them," he remarked decisively. This annoyed me. "You will," I answered shortly. "You will if you stay in the East." "Oh, I'll stay in the East, don't you worry," he said, glancing at Daisy and then back at me, as if he were alert for something more. "I'd be a God Damned fool to live anywhere else." At this point Miss Baker said "Absolutely!" with such suddenness that I started—it was the first word she uttered since I came into the room. Evidently it surprised her as much as it did me, for she yawned and with a series of rapid, deft movements stood up into the room. "I'm stiff," she complained, "I've been lying on that sofa for as long as I can remember." "Don't look at me," Daisy retorted. "I've been trying to get you to New York all afternoon." "No, thanks," said Miss Baker to the four cocktails just in from the pantry, "I'm absolutely in training." Her host looked at her incredulously. "You are!" He took down his drink as if it were a drop in the bottom of a glass. "How you ever get anything done is beyond me." I looked at Miss Baker wondering what it was she "got done." I enjoyed looking at her. She was a slender, small-breasted girl, with an erect carriage which she accentuated by throwing her body backward at the shoulders like a young cadet. Her grey sun-strained eyes looked back at me with polite reciprocal curiosity out of a wan, charming discontented face. It occurred to me now that I had seen her, or a picture of her, somewhere before. "You live in West Egg," she remarked contemptuously. "I know somebody there." "I don't know a single—" "You must know Gatsby." "Gatsby?" demanded Daisy. "What Gatsby?" Before I could reply that he was my neighbor dinner was announced; wedging his tense arm imperatively under mine Tom Buchanan compelled me from the room as though he were moving a checker to another square. Slenderly, languidly, their hands set lightly on their hips the two young women preceded us out onto a rosy-colored porch open toward the sunset where four candles flickered on the table in the diminished wind. "Why candles?" objected Daisy, frowning. She snapped them out with her fingers. "In two weeks it'll be the longest day in the year." She looked at us all radiantly. "Do you always watch for the longest day of the year and then miss it? I always watch for the longest day in the year and then miss it." "We ought to plan something," yawned Miss Baker, sitting down at the table as if she were getting into bed. "All right," said Daisy. "What'll we plan?" She turned to me helplessly. "What do people plan?" Before I could answer her eyes fastened with an awed expression on her little finger. "Look!" she complained. "I hurt it." We all looked—the knuckle was black and blue. "You did it, Tom," she said accusingly. "I know you didn't mean to but you did do it. That's what I get for marrying a brute of a man, a great big hulking physical specimen of a—" "I hate that word hulking," objected Tom crossly, "even in kidding." "Hulking," insisted Daisy. Sometimes she and Miss Baker talked at once, unobtrusively and with a bantering inconsequence that was never quite chatter, that was as cool as their white dresses and their impersonal eyes in the absence of all desire. They were here—and they accepted Tom and me, making only a polite pleasant effort to entertain or to be entertained. They knew that presently dinner would be over and a little later the evening too would be over and casually put away. It was sharply different from the West where an evening was hurried from phase to phase toward its close in a continually disappointed anticipation or else in sheer nervous dread of the moment itself. "You make me feel uncivilized, Daisy," I confessed on my second glass of corky but rather impressive claret. "Can't you talk about crops or something?" I meant nothing in particular by this remark but it was taken up in an unexpected way. "Civilization's going to pieces," broke out Tom violently. "I've gotten to be a terrible pessimist about things. Have you read 'The
Rise of the Coloured Empires' by this man Goddard?" "Why, no," I answered, rather surprised by his tone. "Well, it's a fine book, and everybody ought to read it. The idea is if we don't look out the white race will be—will be utterly submerged. It's all scientific stuff; it's been proved." "Tom's getting very profound," said Daisy with an expression of unthoughtful sadness. "He reads deep books with long words in them. What was that word we—" "Well, these books are all scientific," insisted Tom, glancing at her impatiently. "This fellow has worked out the whole thing. It's up to us who are the dominant race to watch out or these other races will have control of things." "We've got to beat them down," whispered Daisy, winking ferociously toward the fervent sun. "You ought to live in California—" began Miss Baker but Tom interrupted her by shifting heavily in his chair. "This idea is that we're Nordics. I am, and you are and you are and—" After an infinitesimal hesitation he included Daisy with a slight nod and she winked at me again. "—and we've produced all the things that go to make civilization—oh, science and art and all that. Do you see?" There was something pathetic in his concentration as if his complacency, more acute than of old, was not enough to him any more. When, almost immediately, the telephone rang inside and the butler left the porch Daisy seized upon the momentary interruption and leaned toward me. "I'll tell you a family secret," she whispered enthusiastically. "It's about the butler's nose. Do you want to hear about the butler's nose?" "That's why I came over tonight." "Well, he wasn't always a butler; he used to be the silver polisher for some people in New York that had a silver service for two hundred people. He had to polish it from morning till night until finally it began to affect his nose—" "Things went from bad to worse," suggested Miss Baker. "Yes. Things went from bad to worse until finally he had to give up his position." For a moment the last sunshine fell with romantic affection upon her glowing face; her voice compelled me forward breathlessly as I listened—then the glow faded, each light deserting her with lingering regret like children leaving a pleasant street at dusk. The butler came back and murmured something close to Tom's ear whereupon Tom frowned, pushed back his chair and without a word went inside. As if his absence quickened something within her Daisy leaned forward again, her voice glowing and singing. "I love to see you at my table, Nick. You remind me of a—of a rose, an absolute rose. Doesn't he?" She turned to Miss Baker for confirmation. "An absolute rose?" This was untrue. I am not even faintly like a rose. She was only extemporizing but a stirring warmth flowed from her as if her heart was trying to come out to you concealed in one of those breathless, thrilling words. Then suddenly she threw her napkin on the table and excused herself and went into the house. Miss Baker and I exchanged a short glance consciously devoid of meaning. I was about to speak when she sat up alertly and said "Sh!" in a warning voice. A subdued impassioned murmur was audible in the room beyond and Miss Baker leaned forward, unashamed, trying to hear. The murmur trembled on the verge of coherence, sank down, mounted excitedly, and then ceased altogether. "This Mr. Gatsby you spoke of is my neighbor—" I said. "Don't talk. I want to hear what happens." "Is something happening?" I inquired innocently. "You mean to say you don't know?" said Miss Baker, honestly surprised. "I thought everybody knew." "I don't." "Why—" she said hesitantly, "Tom's got some woman in New York." "Got some woman?" I repeated blankly. Miss Baker nodded. "She might have the decency not to telephone him at dinner-time. Don't you think?" Almost before I had grasped her meaning there was the flutter of a dress and the crunch of leather boots and Tom and Daisy were back at the table. "It couldn't be helped!" cried Daisy with tense gayety. She sat down, glanced searchingly at Miss Baker and then at me and continued: "I looked
outdoors for a minute and it's very romantic outdoors. There's a bird on the lawn that I think must be a nightingale come over on the Cunard or White Star Line. He's singing away—" her voice sang "—It's romantic, isn't it, Tom?" "Very romantic," he said, and then miserably to me: "If it's light enough after dinner I want to take you down to the stables." The telephone rang inside, startlingly, and as Daisy shook her head decisively at Tom the subject of the stables, in fact all subjects, vanished into air. Among the broken fragments of the last five minutes at table I remember the candles being lit again, pointlessly, and I was conscious of wanting to look squarely at every one and yet to avoid all eyes. I couldn't guess what Daisy and Tom were thinking but I doubt if even Miss Baker who seemed to have mastered a certain hardy skepticism was able utterly to put this fifth guest's shrill metallic urgency out of mind. To a certain temperament the situation might have seemed intriguing—my own instinct was to telephone immediately for the police. The horses, needless to say, were not mentioned again. Tom and Miss Baker, with several feet of twilight between them strolled back into the library, as if to a vigil beside a perfectly tangible body, while trying to look pleasantly interested and a little deaf I followed Daisy around a chain of connecting verandas to the porch in front. In its deep gloom we sat down side by side on a wicker settee. Daisy took her face in her hands, as if feeling its lovely shape, and her eyes moved gradually out into the velvet dusk. I saw that turbulent emotions possessed her, so I asked what I thought would be some sedative questions about her little girl. "We don't know each other very well, Nick," she said suddenly. "Even if we are cousins. You didn't come to my wedding." "I wasn't back from the war." "That's true." She hesitated. "Well, I've had a very bad time, Nick, and I'm pretty cynical about everything." Evidently she had reason to be. I waited but she didn't say any more, and after a moment I returned rather feebly to the subject of her daughter. "I suppose she talks, and—eats, and everything." "Oh, yes." She looked at me absently. "Listen, Nick; let me tell you what I said when she was born. Would you like to hear?" "Very much." "It'll show you how I've gotten to feel about—things. Well, she was less than an hour old and Tom was God knows where. I woke up out of the ether with an utterly abandoned feeling and asked the nurse right away if it was a boy or a girl. She told me it was a girl, and so I turned my head away and wept. 'All right,' I said, 'I'm glad it's a girl. And I hope she'll be a fool—that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool." "You see I think everything's terrible anyhow," she went on in a convinced way. "Everybody thinks so—the most advanced people. And I know. I've been everywhere and seen everything and done everything." Her eyes flashed around her in a defiant way, rather like Tom's, and she laughed with thrilling scorn. "Sophisticated—God, I'm sophisticated!" The instant her voice broke off, ceasing to compel my attention, my belief, I felt the basic insincerity of what she had said. It made me uneasy, as though the whole evening had been a trick of some sort to exact a contributory emotion from me. I waited, and sure enough, in a moment she looked at me with an absolute smirk on her lovely face as if she had asserted her membership in a rather distinguished secret society to which she and Tom belonged. Inside, the crimson room bloomed with light. Tom and Miss Baker sat at either end of the long couch and she read aloud to him from the "Saturday Evening Post"—the words, murmurous and uninflected, running together in a soothing tune. The lamp-light, bright on his boots and dull on the autumn-leaf yellow of her hair, glinted along the paper as she turned a page with a flutter of slender muscles in her arms. When we came in she held us silent for a moment with a lifted hand. "To be continued," she said, tossing the magazine on the table,
"in our very next issue." Her body asserted itself with a restless movement of her knee, and she stood up. "Ten o'clock," she remarked, apparently finding the time on the ceiling. "Time for this good girl to go to bed." "Jordan's going to play in the tournament tomorrow," explained Daisy, "over at Westchester." "Oh,—you're Jordan Baker." I knew now why her face was familiar—its pleasing contemptuous expression had looked out at me from many rotogravure pictures of the sporting life at Asheville and Hot Springs and Palm Beach. I had heard some story of her too, a critical, unpleasant story, but what it was I had forgotten long ago. "Good night," she said softly. "Wake me at eight, won't you." "If you'll get up." "I will. Good night, Mr. Carraway. See you anon." "Of course you will," confirmed Daisy. "In fact I think I'll arrange a marriage. Come over often, Nick, and I'll sort of—oh—fling you together. You know—lock you up accidentally in linen closets and push you out to sea in a boat, and all that sort of thing—" "Good night," called Miss Baker from the stairs. "I haven't heard a word." "She's a nice girl," said Tom after a moment. "They oughtn't to let her run around the country this way." "Who oughtn't to?" inquired Daisy coldly. "Her family." "Her family is one aunt about a thousand years old. Besides, Nick's going to look after her, aren't you, Nick? She's going to spend lots of week-ends out here this summer. I think the home influence will be very good for her." Daisy and Tom looked at each other for a moment in silence. "Is she from New York?" I asked quickly. "From Louisville. Our white girlhood was passed together there. Our beautiful white—" "Did you give Nick a little heart to heart talk on the veranda?" demanded Tom suddenly. "Did I?" She looked at me. "I can't seem to remember, but I think we talked about the Nordic race. Yes, I'm sure we did. It sort of crept up on us and first thing you know—" "Don't believe everything you hear, Nick," he advised me. I said lightly that I had heard nothing at all, and a few minutes later I got up to go home. They came to the door with me and stood side by side in a cheerful square of light. As I started my motor Daisy peremptorily called "Wait! "I forgot to ask you something, and it's important. We heard you were engaged to a girl out West." "That's right," corroborated Tom kindly. "We heard that you were engaged." "It's libel. I'm too poor." "But we heard it," insisted Daisy, surprising me by opening up again in a flower-like way. "We heard it from three people so it must be true." Of course I knew what they were referring to, but I wasn't even vaguely engaged. The fact that gossip had published the banns was one of the reasons I had come east. You can't stop going with an old friend on account of rumors and on the other hand I had no intention of being rumored into marriage. Their interest rather touched me and made them less remotely rich—nevertheless, I was confused and a little disgusted as I drove away. It seemed to me that the thing for Daisy to do was to rush out of the house, child in arms—but apparently there were no such intentions in her head. As for Tom, the fact that he "had some woman in New York" was really less surprising than that he had been depressed by a book. Something was making him nibble at the edge of stale ideas as if his sturdy physical egotism no longer nourished his peremptory heart. Already it was deep summer on roadhouse roofs and in front of wayside garages, where new red gas-pumps sat out in pools of light, and when I reached my estate at West Egg I ran the car under its shed and sat for a while on an abandoned grass roller in the yard. The wind had blown off, leaving a loud bright night with wings beating in the trees and a persistent organ sound as the full bellows of the earth blew the frogs full of life. The silhouette of a moving cat wavered across the moonlight and turning my head to watch it I saw that I was not alone—fifty feet away a figure had emerged from the shadow of my neighbor's mansion and was standing with his hands in
his pockets regarding the silver pepper of the stars. Something in his leisurely movements and the secure position of his feet upon the lawn suggested that it was Mr. Gatsby himself, come out to determine what share was his of our local heavens. I decided to call to him. Miss Baker had mentioned him at dinner, and that would do for an introduction. But I didn't call to him for he gave a sudden intimation that he was content to be alone—he stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and far as I was from him I could have sworn he was trembling. Involuntarily I glanced seaward—and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of a dock. When I looked once more for Gatsby he had vanished, and I was alone again in the unquiet darkness. Chapter 2 Summary: Just chapter 2 of the Great Gatsby Notes: (See the end of the chapter for notes.) Chapter Text About half way between West Egg and New York the motor-road hastily joins the railroad and runs beside it for a quarter of a mile, so as to shrink away from a certain desolate area of land. This is a valley of ashes—a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke and finally, with a transcendent effort, of men who move dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air. Occasionally a line of grey cars crawls along an invisible track, gives out a ghastly creak and comes to rest, and immediately the ash-grey men swarm up with leaden spades and stir up an impenetrable cloud which screens their obscure operations from your sight. But above the grey land and the spasms of bleak dust which drift endlessly over it, you perceive, after a moment, the eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg. The eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg are blue and gigantic—their retinas are one yard high. They look out of no face but, instead, from a pair of enormous yellow spectacles which pass over a nonexistent nose. Evidently some wild wag of an oculist set them there to fatten his practice in the borough of Queens, and then sank down himself into eternal blindness or forgot them and moved away. But his eyes, dimmed a little by many paintless days under sun and rain, brood on over the solemn dumping ground. The valley of ashes is bounded on one side by a small foul river, and when the drawbridge is up to let barges through, the passengers on waiting trains can stare at the dismal scene for as long as half an hour. There is always a halt there of at least a minute and it was because of this that I first met Tom Buchanan's mistress. The fact that he had one was insisted upon wherever he was known. His acquaintances resented the fact that he turned up in popular restaurants with her and, leaving her at a table, sauntered about, chatting with whomsoever he knew. Though I was curious to see her I had no desire to meet her—but I did. I went up to New York with Tom on the train one afternoon and when we stopped by the ashheaps he jumped to his feet and taking hold of my elbow literally forced me from the car. "We're getting off!" he insisted. "I want you to meet my girl." I think he'd tanked up a good deal at luncheon and his determination to have my company bordered on violence. The supercilious assumption was that on Sunday afternoon I had nothing better to do. I followed him over a low white-washed railroad fence and we walked back a hundred yards along the road under Doctor Eckleburg's persistent stare. The only building in sight was a small block of yellow brick sitting on the edge of the waste land, a sort of compact Main Street ministering to it and contiguous to absolutely nothing. One of the three shops it contained was for rent and another was an all-night restaurant approached by a trail of ashes; the third was a garage—Repairs. GEORGE B. WILSON. Cars Bought and Sold—and I followed Tom inside. The interior was unprosperous and bare; the only car visible was the dust-covered wreck of a Ford which crouched in a dim corner. It had occurred
to me that this shadow of a garage must be a blind and that sumptuous and romantic apartments were concealed overhead when the proprietor himself appeared in the door of an office, wiping his hands on a piece of waste. He was a blonde, spiritless man, anaemic, and faintly handsome. When he saw us a damp gleam of hope sprang into his light blue eyes. "Hello, Wilson, old man," said Tom, slapping him jovially on the shoulder. "How's business?" "I can't complain," answered Wilson unconvincingly. "When are you going to sell me that car?" "Next week; I've got my man working on it now." "Works pretty slow, don't he?" "No, he doesn't," said Tom coldly. "And if you feel that way about it, maybe I'd better sell it somewhere else after all." "I don't mean that," explained Wilson quickly. "I just meant—" His voice faded off and Tom glanced impatiently around the garage. Then I heard footsteps on a stairs and in a moment the thickish figure of a woman blocked out the light from the office door. She was in the middle thirties, and faintly stout, but she carried her surplus flesh sensuously as some women can. Her face, above a spotted dress of dark blue crepe-de-chine, contained no facet or gleam of beauty but there was an immediately perceptible vitality about her as if the nerves of her body were continually smouldering. She smiled slowly and walking through her husband as if he were a ghost shook hands with Tom, looking him flush in the eye. Then she wet her lips and without turning around spoke to her husband in a soft, coarse voice: "Get some chairs, why don't you, so somebody can sit down." "Oh, sure," agreed Wilson hurriedly and went toward the little office, mingling immediately with the cement color of the walls. A white ashen dust veiled his dark suit and his pale hair as it veiled everything in the vicinity—except his wife, who moved close to Tom. "I want to see you," said Tom intently. "Get on the next train." "All right." "I'll meet you by the news-stand on the lower level." She nodded and moved away from him just as George Wilson emerged with two chairs from his office door. We waited for her down the road and out of sight. It was a few days before the Fourth of July, and a grey, scrawny Italian child was setting torpedoes in a row along the railroad track. "Terrible place, isn't it," said Tom, exchanging a frown with Doctor Eckleburg. "Awful." "It does her good to get away." "Doesn't her husband object?" "Wilson? He thinks she goes to see her sister in New York. He's so dumb he doesn't know he's alive." So Tom Buchanan and his girl and I went up together to New York—or not quite together, for Mrs. Wilson sat discreetly in another car. Tom deferred that much to the sensibilities of those East Eggers who might be on the train. She had changed her dress to a brown figured muslin which stretched tight over her rather wide hips as Tom helped her to the platform in New York. At the news-stand she bought a copy of "Town Tattle" and a moving-picture magazine and, in the station drug store, some cold cream and a small flask of perfume. Upstairs, in the solemn echoing drive she let four taxi cabs drive away before she selected a new one, lavender-colored with grey upholstery, and in this we slid out from the mass of the station into the glowing sunshine. But immediately she turned sharply from the window and leaning forward tapped on the front glass. "I want to get one of those dogs," she said earnestly. "I want to get one for the apartment. They're nice to have—a dog." We backed up to a grey old man who bore an absurd resemblance to John D. Rockefeller. In a basket, swung from his neck, cowered a dozen very recent puppies of an indeterminate breed. "What kind are they?" asked Mrs. Wilson eagerly as he came to the taxi-window. "All kinds. What kind do you want, lady?" "I'd like to get one of those police dogs; I don't suppose you got that kind?" The man peered doubtfully into the basket, plunged in his hand and drew one up, wriggling, by the back of the neck. "That's no police dog," said Tom. "No, it's not exactly a police dog,"
" said the man with disappointment in his voice. "It's more of an airedale." He passed his hand over the brown wash-rag of a back. "Look at that coat. Some coat. That's a dog that'll never bother you with catching cold." "I think it's cute," said Mrs. Wilson enthusiastically. "How much is it?" "That dog?" He looked at it admiringly. "That dog will cost you ten dollars." The airedale—undoubtedly there was an airedale concerned in it somewhere though its feet were startlingly white—changed hands and settled down into Mrs. Wilson's lap, where she fondled the weather-proof coat with rapture. "Is it a boy or a girl?" she asked delicately. "That dog? That dog's a boy." "It's a bitch," said Tom decisively. "Here's your money. Go and buy ten more dogs with it." We drove over to Fifth Avenue, so warm and soft, almost pastoral, on the summer Sunday afternoon that I wouldn't have been surprised to see a great flock of white sheep turn the corner. "Hold on," I said, "I have to leave you here." "No, you don't," interposed Tom quickly. "Myrtle'll be hurt if you don't come up to the apartment. Won't you, Myrtle?" "Come on," she urged. "I'll telephone my sister Catherine. She's said to be very beautiful by people who ought to know." "Well, I'd like to, but—" We went on, cutting back again over the Park toward the West Hundreds. At 158th Street the cab stopped at one slice in a long white cake of apartment houses. Throwing a regal homecoming glance around the neighborhood, Mrs. Wilson gathered up her dog and her other purchases and went haughtily in. "I'm going to have the McKees come up," she announced as we rose in the elevator. "And of course I got to call up my sister, too." The apartment was on the top floor—a small living room, a small dining room, a small bedroom and a bath. The living room was crowded to the doors with a set of tapestried furniture entirely too large for it so that to move about was to stumble continually over scenes of ladies swinging in the gardens of Versailles. The only picture was an over-enlarged photograph, apparently a hen sitting on a blurred rock. Looked at from a distance however the hen resolved itself into a bonnet and the countenance of a stout old lady beamed down into the room. Several old copies of "Town Tattle" lay on the table together with a copy of "Simon Called Peter" and some of the small scandal magazines of Broadway. Mrs. Wilson was first concerned with the dog. A reluctant elevator boy went for a box full of straw and some milk to which he added on his own initiative a tin of large hard dog biscuits—one of which decomposed apathetically in the saucer of milk all afternoon. Meanwhile Tom brought out a bottle of whiskey from a locked bureau door. I have been drunk just twice in my life and the second time was that afternoon so everything that happened has a dim hazy cast over it although until after eight o'clock the apartment was full of cheerful sun. Sitting on Tom's lap Mrs. Wilson called up several people on the telephone; then there were no cigarettes and I went out to buy some at the drug store on the corner. When I came back they had disappeared so I sat down discreetly in the living room and read a chapter of "Simon Called Peter"—either it was terrible stuff or the whiskey distorted things because it didn't make any sense to me. Just as Tom and Myrtle—after the first drink Mrs. Wilson and I called each other by our first names—reappeared, company commenced to arrive at the apartment door. The sister, Catherine, was a slender, worldly girl of about thirty with a solid sticky bob of red hair and a complexion powdered milky white. Her eyebrows had been plucked and then drawn on again at a more rakish angle but the efforts of nature toward the restoration of the old alignment gave a blurred air to her face. When she moved about there was an incessant clicking as innumerable pottery bracelets jingled up and down upon her arms. She came in with such a proprietary haste and looked around so possessively at the furniture that I wondered if she lived here. But when I asked her she laughed i
