It occurs to me as I was recently rewatching Chiantishire that something I didn’t pay attention to the first time around is how Caroline handles discussions of the past, particularly the Logan-Caroline divorce and its aftereffects. Unlike Logan, who basically bulldozes his way through memories to reconstruct a future he can handle, Caroline’s engagement in ‘the past’ seems dependent on who she’s talking to.
Long Caroline-Shiv-Kendall post beneath the cut.
I get the sense from Chiantishire that Shiv wasn’t very aware of the details of the divorce. She didn’t really know how or why Caroline left – just that her mother wasn’t there. And in her absence, Logan’s narrative became Shiv’s truth: Caroline didn’t want her – didn’t even care enough to fight to keep her in her life. So fine. Shiv doesn’t want her either. And in Italy, she let Caroline know that.
And then something interesting happens - Caroline actually engages. She admits that she wasn’t the greatest mother in one breath and brandishes a verbal knife with another. “I may have been a bit of a spotty mother but you’ve been a shitty daughter.” It’s vicious all the way around, but it’s a kind of mutual wounding. It’s a conversation. The past is painful, but it’s open for renegotiation. Because underneath it all, there’s the heart of something still alive between the two of them.
But with Kendall...with Kendall there’s nothing left to engage in because the distance is already too great.
In the cut scene from Pre-Nuptial, we get this gem:
Tumblr media
Here, Kendall tries to forgive Caroline for the same “abandonment” Shiv brings up in Chiantishire, but it’s met with a very different response from Caroline. Instead of an acknowledgement of being a “spotty mother,” Caroline goes on the offensive. She presses him on the double standard he’s applying to her because this is an old hurt, one that has its roots in how Kendall is always Logan’s, even when he’s privy to details that should make him think differently.
There’s an underlying implication in Caroline’s response that suggests Kendall has much more of a picture of what led to the divorce than Shiv does. As the oldest, the heir, and Logan’s sometimes confidant, Kendall would have likely had a front row seat to the breakdown of his parents’ marriage. To the moment Logan banished Caroline from her children’s lives. And while he might not have known everything, to Caroline he was capable of knowing the difference between leaving and being pushed out.
And her son’s blame? It’s not unexpected. Kendall has always been Logan’s. Was stamped with his father’s name from the moment he was born. But that doesn’t make it sting any less when her first born, the one she sees her temperament in, sides with the man forcing her out. And while I think Caroline and Kendall weren’t particularly close before the divorce, I can imagine this being the fracture that was never set. An injury that never quite healed right, unable to support the weight of a relationship from that point forward.
Sure, Caroline will coo when she sees him. But that’s because she loves all of her children – including Kendall. Because no matter what, she really does want to be in their lives. But she won’t engage with him the way she will with Shiv because there’s a world of difference between Shiv, who has the ability to one day understand her, and Kendall, who has already chosen not to. So really, what is there left to say? Kendall’s made it clear; he’s chosen to become his father’s creature, to adopt his narrative and echo his actions – and Caroline can’t stomach suffering his blame. But with Shiv? Maybe some day, if they keep at it, they’ll end up on the same page.
As a general note, these relationships are obviously super complex and have a lot more going on than just musings about the divorce so to save this from getting too long and disorganized, second and third parts on Shiv and Caroline and on Kendall and Caroline already in the works haha. Will go back and link them all together as they’re written and posted. If you made it to the end – thank you for listening to the ramblings of an insane Carolinegirl.

Bacterial Vaginosis After Miscarriage Sublime Ideas
For more choices in treatment, you will notice a significant decrease in lactobacilli and other over the counter creams and lotions can sometimes misdiagnose someone because it is advisable to consult your doctor who will give out another form of vaginitis must never be applied in vagina. One study demonstrated that about 88 out of whack or when bad bacteria in the vagina.Sometimes, they would also produce other benefits like an over the counter treatment for bacterial vaginosis. Also after a proper holistic bacterial vaginosis natural treatments first and then use that as soon as you would if you want to be ordinarily anticipated when giving birth to a number of women who are still more natural remedies for bv involves a holistic approach toward permanent cure you need at least more than one person to another.

Homeopathy: what is it?
homeopathy: What is it?
Homeopathy: what is it?
A unique therapeutic technique still proving very controversial, homeopathy is practiced all over the world, by doctors, dentists, and veterinarians as well as by naturopaths, chiropractors, practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine, and several other health professionals. However, in Quebec, only the professional homeopath has a complete training that assures his competence in the use of the fundamental principles of homeopathy.
Created in the early nineteenth century by Samuel Hahnemann, it is essentially based on:
The law of similarity. Similia similibus curentur, the like cures the like. This principle, which goes back to Hippocrates, says that a substance that causes a group of symptoms in a healthy person can cure a sick person with the same group of symptoms. It is this principle that gave its name to homeopathy, the Greek words homeo and pathos meaning respectively “similar” and “illness or suffering”. Law of individualization. In homeopathy, we treat the sick individual and not the disease to do this we look for the most idiosyncratic symptoms in a person taking into account all the aspects that characterize, physical, physiological, mental, psychic, heredity etc. We need a global picture of the unique symptoms of the individual. The process of high dilutions. The homeopathic theory claims that the dilution and the “dynamization” of a remedy can potentiate its curative effects. The homeopathic remedies are diluted several times in water or in a mixture of water and alcohol, to the point where there is usually no chemical trace of the molecules that made up the original substance. Between successive dilutions, the remedy is administered a series of tremors (called succussions in the jargon of homeopaths) in order to “energize” it. This boosting would be absolutely essential to the effectiveness of the product. Neither of these foundations has so far received the consent of the scientific community. The law of similarity is opposed to the classical medical approach which, to fight the disease, is based on drugs whose purpose is to eliminate the symptoms or to destroy the aggressors. For example, a drug that causes fever when the patient’s temperature is considered too high, an antibiotic that destroys the bacteria responsible for an infection, an antacid to counteract gastric hyperacidity, a hypotensive to correct high blood pressure. etc. This is called “allopathy”, also meaning “different”.
As for the process of high dilutions, it goes against the current of modern pharmacology which is based on the biological activity of specific molecules. From the chemist’s point of view, any therapeutic effect is attributable to specific molecules. In the majority of homeopathic preparations, these molecules are no longer found.
As for the law of individualization, in allopathic official medicine we do not consider that the body reacts as a whole, rather we focus on the function of each element separately. It’s a more mechanical approach. Homeopathy is a holistic medicine.
Therefore, it is not surprising that the subject has caused in the past – and still causes – very heated debate among scientists. Despite this, homeopathic remedies have been used to treat patients for 200 years and there is no indication that the popularity of this therapy is declining, either for the health professionals who use it or for the patients who receive it.
The homeopathic method
Homeopathy is based on the premise that the body has the strength to generate a natural healing process. From this premise, Hahnemann argued that it was more important to find ways to stimulate the natural healing process inherent in any living organism than to know the specific pathogen or name of the disease.
In this way, the homeopath tries to discover all the symptoms of the patient in order to trigger or support the corresponding healing process. The practitioner will therefore seek to know when and how the symptoms appear, which amplifies or decreases their intensity, the times they appear, the actions that exacerbate or relieve them, etc.
Thus, 2 patients suffering from the same disease in the sense of classical medicine could be prescribed different homeopathic remedies because their mode of reaction differs or their specific symptoms are not the same. They could have the same “cold” (same virus), but not the same nasal discharge, for example. Homeopaths now have computer databases.
The dilutions
A homeopathic preparation labeled 6X denotes a remedy in which the original extract has been diluted (usually in a mixture of water and alcohol) in a proportion of 10 to 1 (hence the X). This is called a low dilution or a decimal dilution. At each step (6 in this case), the mixture will have been boosted by printing 100 shakes. There are also percent dilutions (100 to 1 at each dilution) which are designated C, and “millesimal” dilutions with the letter M (1000 to 1). These last two types of preparation constitute high dilutions.
We often see the letter H (for Hahnemann) contiguous to the symbols X, C or M (for example, 30CH). This identifies the Hahnemannian dilutions we have just described. Some dilutions are prepared using a slightly different procedure developed by another Hahnemann contemporary homeopath, Dr. Korsakov. Korsakovian dilutions are usually identified by a K.
In homeopathy, it is believed that remedies prepared in high dilution are more potent than those prepared in low dilution. They are used by professional homeopaths and more rarely used over the counter or in complexes intended directly to the public. Once the extract is diluted, it is presented in the form of tablets, granules (small soluble balls, whose base is usually sucrose, which is allowed to melt under the tongue) or solutions that take a few drops to that time. For topical uses, there are also homeopathic products in the form of lotions or ointments. Some preparations, such as skin creams, are said to be homeopathic in that they respect the principle of similarity (similar cures the like), but they are not necessarily diluted. They may contain, for example, mother tinctures of plants prepared according to a method specific to homeopathy.
What are we diluting?
The stem products used to make homeopathic medicines may be of plant, animal or mineral origin. Sometimes the relationship between the product and the condition being treated seems quite logical. Apis mellifica – diluted bee venom – is used to treat insect bites or other conditions that give similar reactions. Similarly, the oil of a plant, Arnica montana, which was traditionally used to treat bruises and sprains, found a similar use in homeopathy.
On the other hand, in other cases, the relationship is more amazing. Thus, the venom of the viper Lachesis mutus is used against certain disorders of the menopause; and Arsenicum album (derived from arsenic, a very toxic heavy metal) is recommended against certain skin diseases and various types of colds.
It should also be noted that Oscillococcinum, a “flu-breaker” and one of the best-selling homeopathic medicines, is made from a maceration of liver and duck heart.
It works, yes or no?
Opinions on this subject are radically different. Scientists, researchers, clinicians, doctors, health professionals, experts from international agencies say things totally opposite, “unstoppable” evidence to support. It would be either a scandalous absurdity or an extremely promising approach that would prove itself every day to millions of people and would be more and more solidly documented. Who to believe?
Without pretending to make an exhaustive presentation, here are the main arguments of both sides as well as the most recent hypotheses that attempt to explain the alleged effects of homeopathy.
Homeopathy is based on absurd concepts that have not changed for 150 years. The very high dilutions make sure that there is not a trace of the original product in the final product. According to classical science, the latter could not, therefore, have any specific therapeutic action. Renowned researcher Edzard Ernst, director of the Complementary Medicine Group at Exeter University in England (who was originally trained in homeopathy) is convinced of this. In an editorial entitled Should we keep an open mind about homeopathy? 1 published in 2009 in the prestigious American Journal of Medicine, he says that homeopathy is not based on science, but rather on ” faith “and on outdated and absurd metaphysical concepts. Homeopathy would be an affront to modern science, just like astrology, perpetual motion, alchemy or Elvis apparitions!
According to Ernst, “Opening oneself to believe in homeopathy goes beyond the tolerable limits of open-mindedness. We should start from the premise that homeopathy can not work and that any positive data can come only from publication bias or experimental error until proven otherwise. (…) By opening the door to irrational forms of medicine alongside evidence-based medicine, the public is deceived and its mind poisoned. ”
Open to amazing explanations, but still scientists.
Proponents of homeopathy retort that their opponents are fighting an ideological rather than a scientific struggle. They readily admit that the action of highly diluted products does not come from a specific action of the original molecules. But they maintain that it is contrary to scientific thought to assert that there can be no other possible explanation. Moreover, more and more experiments would prove those very highly diluted products have a clear biological action (see, below, High dilutions: scientifically measurable effects).
Another recent, and at least surprising, hypothesis that explains the effectiveness of homeopathy, as well as the difficulty of evaluating it by double-blind tests, is that of patient-practitioner-remedy intrication . According to her, there would be real “links” between the patient, the practitioner and the remedy! The term entanglement comes from quantum mechanics. It describes the phenomenon by which two particles, once entangled, have “links” that make any change in one immediately implies the same change in the other, regardless of the distance between them. A similar process could occur in the relationship between the patient, the practitioner and the remedy.
No serious study would have proven beyond doubt that homeopathy would be more effective than placebo. Here we are witnessing another formidable battle of specialists. In both camps, doctors, and researchers of high caliber. In both camps, serious scientific publications downright contradictory. Two examples.
In 2005, the Lancet, one of the most respected medical journals in the world, published a systematic review5 that was widely reported in the media. The researchers compared studies evaluating homeopathic medicines to as many studies for allopathic (conventional) drugs. Among all these studies, they retained only those of the highest quality and including the most subjects: 8 for homeopathy and 6 for allopathy.
From these studies, they concluded that the effects of homeopathy could, at best, only be due to the placebo effect. On the basis of this systematic review, the Lancet published a devastating editorial entitled The End of Homeopathy. The editorial team mentioned that “the results of the systematic review are not surprising. What is surprising is that the debate continues despite 150 years of adverse results. (…) The politically correct attitude of laissez-faire towards homeopathy has lasted too long, but light is finally coming. (…) The debate between homeopathy and allopathy fueled by biased reports and selective analyzes should stop, as should all research on homeopathy. ”
Second example. Published in 2010, a large study commissioned by the UK Parliament once again concluded that the action of homeopathy was due only to the placebo effect. The researchers recommended that homeopathy be no longer reimbursed by the state.
Here are some excerpts from the report.
“Randomized clinical trials are the best way to determine if there is a cause and effect relationship between a treatment and a result. ”
“Although several studies have found that homeopathic remedies in many cases provide a great deal of user satisfaction, this does not prove their clinical efficacy. The high satisfaction rate could be attributable to a strong placebo effect reinforced by the following 3 factors:
Homeopaths would mainly treat conditions that tend to be self-limiting (such as the common cold) or particularly sensitive to the placebo effect. Individuals treated with homeopathy would deliberately choose this therapy and would probably give it more confidence from the start. Homeopathic consultations are usually long, empathic, and warm, and physicians with a warmer attitude have been shown to have better clinical outcomes than those who are more formal. ” “According to our research, the concept of ultra-dilution that water could retain the imprint of a previously dissolved substance is not scientifically plausible. ”
The responses of homeopathic advocates to these 2 publications
Bad faith researchers? These publications have, of course, provoked an outcry from homeopathic advocates, whether they be doctors, practitioners or researchers. With regard to the Lancet study, they accused the editorial team and the magazine of bias and not being objective. They pointed out that judging all homeopathy on the basis of 8 studies was grossly against the scientific method. In addition, there was no mention of the studies in question. Four months later, the Lancet provided the list of studies. Proponents of homeopathy said that 3 other studies, which met the research criteria of the study perfectly, had been omitted. And if we included them, the results clearly tended to favor the effectiveness of homeopathy.
The methodology of conventional studies is not adapted to homeopathy. According to his supporters, random clinical studies do not do justice to the particular functioning of homeopathy. Indeed, in homeopathy, we do not treat a single symptom in isolation, but rather the whole person. In addition, attempting to isolate the patient-practitioner relationship to test only the drug goes against the clinical reality of a homeopathic treatment and could disrupt the results.
The placebo effect does not explain everything.
They also argue that in many cases the effect of homeopathy cannot be explained solely by the placebo effect. Thus, even if they are relatively few in number, quality randomized clinical studies indicate that homeopathy has, in some cases, significantly greater effects than placebo (see Therapeutic Applications).
This is the conclusion reached by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the US National Institutes of Health: “Most reviews of homeopathy studies conclude that there is very few evidence of its effectiveness in treating specific conditions. In addition, a lot of research has important gaps. However, some observational studies, some randomized clinical trials, and laboratory researchers show that homeopathic remedies have real positive effects and well-defined physical and chemical properties. ”
Thus, as one researcher has pointed out, 10 it is sufficient to discover a single black swan so that it is no longer possible to say that ALL swans are white. Similarly, if we discover even one effect that is not due to placebo, it becomes impossible to say that ALL homeopathy results are due to the placebo effect.
High dilutions: scientifically measurable effects.
Many researchers have looked at the specific biological effects of homeopathy. They found that highly diluted preparations can cause measurable biological effects on plants, animals or isolated cells in the laboratory. For example, a homeopathic preparation of arsenic has made it possible to increase the germination rate of wheat grains previously contaminated with true arsenic, as if they had been “cured” of their contamination. This would respect both the principle of similarity and high dilutions. As another example, researchers in a double-blind experiment measured significant differences between electroencephalograms of patients with fibromyalgia who took a homeopathic product or placebo.
Two special issues of the journal Homeopathy, published in 2009 and 2010, have been devoted to this theme and report a great deal of research on the biological effects of homeopathy. (The full content of the second issue is available online for free, see Books, etc.)
On the other hand, several laboratory experiments using calorimetry, thermoluminescence or optical emissions have demonstrated that it is possible to differentiate between pure water and ultra-dilute solutions (which, according to classical chemistry, should no longer contain only water). Other experiments have differentiated two homeopathic solutions.
Cancer cells destroyed in vitro
Finally, a study published in 2010 by the MD Anderson Cancer Center, one of the most reputable cancer treatment centers in the United States, found that 4 different homeopathic preparations could destroy breast cancer cells in a targeted way (by cytotoxicity). The action of 2 of them was similar to that of paclitaxel (Taxol), the product most used in chemotherapy against breast cancer. In addition, one of the four drugs consisted of ultra-diluted cancerous tissue extracts, in accordance with the principles of similarity and high dilution of homeopathy. The authors concluded that the homeopathic remedies evaluated in their study (and already used against breast cancer in a clinic in India) seem promising from a preventive and therapeutic point of view. This justifies, according to them, to continue the research.
Hypotheses of explanations
There is growing evidence that water can actually retain the footprint of a previously dissolved substance, even if the underlying mechanisms are not yet well understood. In 3 special issues of Homeopathy, published in 2007, 2009 and 2010, researchers presented the results of many experimental studies that could explain how highly diluted and “dynamized” products could produce measurable biological effects. Among these, we find:
The “restructuring” of water molecules that contain the same chemical elements (H2O) but are structured differently. The influence of silica from glass containers in which water is shaken. Silica could positively “contaminate” the product, as in the case of semiconductor doping. The formation of nano-bulles and singular nanoparticles during succussions. The creation of long-lived electrical and electromagnetic phenomena in water molecules. Non-uniform dispersion and agglomeration of diluted products. In one of the articles in the 2007 special issue, The Memory of Water: An Overview, the author, a researcher in applied science, states that “there are several rational explanations that can demonstrate why water actually displays different properties based on its past history. In fact, they are so blatant that one wonders how such a controversy persists around the “memory of water”.
Finally, in the main editorial of the same magazine, the author states: “There is still a lot of work to be done, but we can say one thing with certainty: it is absolutely wrong to claim that homeopathy is impossible under the pretext that the “water memory” would be impossible. ”
Why so much passion?
Many supporters of homeopathy accuse their opponents of acting with almost religious fervor. They accuse them of dogmatically refusing the slightest possibility that hypotheses that go beyond physics or classical chemistry may explain the effects of homeopathy.
Following the release of the study on the in vitro destruction of breast cancer cells by the MD Anderson Cancer Center in February 2010 (see above), renowned cancer expert Ralph Moss had the following reflection: 22 MD Anderson Center, which conducted the study, was ranked the United States’ best cancer hospital by the US News and World Report28. It will be particularly interesting to see if professional skeptics will, as usual, try to discredit the study. I hope that it will be a turning point and that conventional science will finally be forced to reassess its rigid opposition to this disconcerting but fascinating mode of treatment. ”
Finally, the reaction of the skeptics was not so virulent, although some still tried to discredit the study. They mentioned that the alcohol used to dilute the preparations could be responsible for cell death and that, as the laboratory experiments were not double blind, the study lost all credibility.
In a special issue of the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine devoted to homeopathy, on the occasion of Hahnemann’s 250th birthday, the publisher wondered: “Why is it so difficult to open up to homeopathy? The reasons we propose are complex and profound. They come as much from reason as from psychology as well as the search for intellectual and spiritual “comfort”. Homeopathy, perhaps more than any other discipline, causes reactions of a rare intensity as much to its antagonists as to its protagonists. Probably because the principles that underlie homeopathy absolutely defy the vision of nature and the biomolecular paradigm that currently prevail and that are a general consensus. “

Addiction, therapy, future, mental illness, bad social constructing, and the huge danger of boredom
These questions keep coming up in my head and I haven't done a brain dump on these specific thoughts to get them out, so here we go:
1. Are people addicted to drugs because the chemicals have addicting attributes of is it more than that?
2. Are there better alternatives to therapy and why do we think the current models work?
3. Is mental illness genetic or the life experiences you encounter through living?
4. Do we give enough concern to the problem of "boredom" and it's correlation to depression?
5. Are the people designing our new social world really qualified to do so and what adverse effects are the results of these design?
A study that was done in 1978 tested the addiction to morphine in rats that I think is highly relevant today. Now there we plenty of other studies before that showed rats would prefer morphine water over plain water and that it was addicting and blah blah blah. The difference here is Alexander made a rat park, basically Disneyland for rats. When this alternative was introduced the rats, who are social creatures like us, took the regular water over ol' bama water( Alabama has the highest opioid use in the country). The idea being that if you give rats and therefore humans rewarding alternatives, you have less drug use.
(study) https://www.summitbehavioralhealth.com/…/overview-rat-park…/
I was talking with my kid who knows people who have addiction issues as many of us do now considering it will only be a matter of time before we all have a loved one in the same boat. One thing she noticed was that the people she knew that were home-schooled all seemed to jump right into every drug known to man once they got to the real world. She thought it was because they were deprived from the experiences of interaction and then kind of went loose with all the sensory enhancing once they got a chance. This is kind of what is happening in rural areas everywhere. Most addicts when interviewed in these small towns will tell you there is literally nothing to do here besides drugs. Of course there is no real job opportunity, no future of that changing, and it doesn't help that Big Pharma has just been allowed to send pallets of dangerous drugs to cities without any oversight. (Link) https://www.vox.com/…/opioid-epidemic-painkillers-west-virg…
Two things interest me in this information. One is that you could probably see a map of the issues with Opioids and where places have dick all to do, Buckeye ring a bell? Apache Junction isn't known for its parks people.
The other is this conservative idea that the decline of western society is in divorce, the liberal agenda, and not wanting to have this nuclear family model from the 60s. The way they combat this is by homeschooling their kids to hide them from influence and liberal programming. The problem is the result of this is drug addiction is ramping up more kills than Mortal Kombat.
The bible belt is hit very hard by drugs, my kid pointed out some terrible success rates with the rates of the kids she knows that were raised in home school christian settings and their battle with drugs. One example is two brothers both dying from alcohol excess, one a complete shut in with a heroin problem, the other who just slammed a bottle of fireball after heart surgery due to the effects. Overall it was 8 out of 10. The ones that joined the military seemed to avoid the issue the rest were swept away.
So the question is how dangerous is boredom? How dangerous is not having prospects of a future? I think the rat park is an example of idle hands make devil's work. We know that parents that get their kids into extracurricular activities have better outcomes but considering that most poor areas don't have the option of one job, and purchasing soccer outfits for kids, this may be a luxury of the rich. Rehab is a pipe dream for most poor people as well. Job opportunity and college plans is also a luxury of the affluent as much as the model of one parent working per household. So how do you combat and epidemic that poor people cant fix without an economic plan to shift poor and bored to middle class and working? Not by cutting funding but that is another debate. There is a finding that shows poverty is linked to mental health issues as well which makes perfect sense and the ramifications on addiction fall perfectly in line with that sense. (link) https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2016/10/30/499777541/can-poverty-lead-to-mental-illness
So how do you combat the addiction we now know exists? This idea of habit forming is true and dangerous if you don't respect it but do you heal the mind or do you fix it chemically? Some people have been going to extremes in the psychedelic frontier but I think they're missing something in some areas and completely bullshit in others. Where does the mental illness reside? Some think it is in your DNA. Others believe that is its a genetic trigger, like you are born with the genetic disposition but if certain events happen then the genes change. One example is how you can be predestined to develop breast cancer but it never triggers. Another is a linking between smoking at an early age can cause your child to be overweight. One other study was done on the MAOA, the warrior gene, or psychopath gene to some. The study showed that if certain environmental factors did not happen the gene would not trigger and the person would not be more impulsive of violence. So how do you go about fixing yourself? Reset the brain with mushrooms? Do some therapy while on ecstasy? Microdosing LSD? Go on a Ayahuasca retreat? Take some electric volts to the brain? How bout regular therapy or counseling? I think you first got to find out one thing. Is your mental disorder something you are born with or something you were wired with through environment?
I tend to think it is the latter and here is my evidence. PTSD is a good example of something that was triggered through an event. Now some could say you were predisposed to be effected more so than someone else but they cant deny when it changed from dormant to affecting the individual. Another is the way they treat Schizophrenic behaviors with electric shock. They could literally wipe your brain of the existence of the disorder if you didnt mind losing your memory. This is a very good documentary on the subject of Bi-Polar but I want to note 2 things here. Most people dont just have one disorder, a ton have PTSD and considering they didnt look like vets I can assume their childhood was one of nightmares. The other is the woman who didnt want to lose her memory for the cure. Memory is paramount in these disorders even if you make a case for genetic predisposition you would also have to admit that environment plays a huge role in all these and in some it is seems like it is 100% that. I believe the big reason why therapy works is because you play out the trauma over and over and talk about the terrible things you endured to someone. This could be a friend that doesn't mind hearing the story over and over or a therapist. I think the addition of medication is scary but as a stop gap I can see this as a necessity in a small timeline but there are a ton of adverse effects that are dangerous if going unchecked. Most mass shooters were on some anti depressants or adhd meds. This is why the holistic view garners some respect if used in logical ways and for a short time as well. Case in point is that you cant overdose on marijuana. So holistic does trump pharmaceutical if you cant die from it or the side effects of a pill meant to help you be happy makes you want to harm yourself and others. PTSD effected military folks have been swept under the rug by subscribing them some meds and sending them on their way. This is not being monitored by therapists but by doctors who get kick backs from the industry that benefits solely on people using more and more of their drugs. As you can see, business is good. This is an example of re-enacting trauma in a light way can repair the mind, this is similar to continuous telling of the story of your trauma. There are more elaborate studies that help people cope by recreating high quality versions of the trauma over and over till the brain can cope: (link) http://www.latimes.com/…/la-ss-morningside-can-paintball-he…
Now I think most people go to far on the merits of psychedelics and definitely on the catch all uses of marijuana. There are cases where it helps and the evidence in seizures is proof in the pudding. The over exaggeration of its effectiveness on cancer when its anti inflammatory effects are equal to you using tumeric or eating blue berries. Now I do think that if you were to take some ecstasy and focus on therapy, either talking about trauma or working out relationship issues, the different perspective and openness could make what would have been a toxic conversation one that is more easy to cope with. They have shown similar success with drugs like Ketamine and huge effects with mushrooms.
Now if you were to take ecstasy and sit there and talk about a bunch of bullshit like music or how could a mouse have a dog for a pet in Disney films, you are not getting shit out of the experience. The same could be applied to doing a bunch of psychedelics and going to burning man, what would you really learn from that? Intentions matter is all im saying. Other drugs like Ayahuasca and mushrooms have a different effect but the results on heroin addicts cannot be ignored. This isnt because you became one with the universe but the effects that brain wiring has on your life. If you were raised in a household where love meant violence and calm could be interrupted by chaos in any moment, you would have some fucked up wiring. It would effect the relationships you choose and the friends you can keep. There are ways to rewire the brain with actions. This is where therapy comes into play again. Someone telling you that what you think is boring is boring because your wiring needs enough positive links to love and relationships before it is wired to normal. The same reason why habits are formed like drinking while gaming, or the need to workout once you missed a day. (link) http://bigthink.com/ex…/how-to-rewire-your-brain-for-success
These drug may have an effect of getting their sooner by escalating the progress and putting you in a frame of mind to take it in more. Now these effects are fleeting but with practice and focus on the therapy and not just watching a shit Dead cover band you may get there without the danger of mood altering drugs that can have terrible reactions.
So what about our current social mediums? Do they actually do what we need them to do? Many people have talked about the dangers of social media and the addiction to likes. Here is a study which ranks them on how bad each one sucks but I have an idea behind why. (link) https://www.forbes.com/…/…/2017/05/31/instagram-depression/…
Here is a study showing the uptick in stress issues as a whole: (link) https://youtu.be/vqevGkjuLW0
Now most of these can be contributed to the asshole in charge, health care(mental as well), and economic concerns. 30% showed concerns about trust in government as well. Overall, people are not mentally better than they were last year and there are plenty of studies that show stressed households or classrooms can have huge effects on learning and stress in general. Stress is deeply tied to your health in a biological way as well so it is cause for concern.
I don't want to get to far down the rabbit hole but I think it is because we have people who have no idea how to talk to people creating social media apps. We have people that have no idea on dating making dating apps. That these applications dont take into account what is best for the user but what is best for making money and in return programming people to behave in a way that makes the developers money and provides mild success in the results desired by the person.
For example, the interfaces are one indicator that no one cares how you think. No one needed a tile interface for Windows 8/10 but here we are. Games are designed for in app purchasing and are curbing gamers to be loot and grind hounds that keeps them playing an unrewarding experience for continued activity and not a desire for rewarding game play. FB does a few things right but there are no ways to actually meet real people compared to AOL chat rooms in the 90s where a ton of people found love. World Of Warcraft does a better job match making friends/lovers than the current offerings and the reason why that is could be attributed to the way the app makes its money. Snapchat rewards users by encouraging them to stay active and post often which in turns means more ad clicks etc. None of these reward the user in the ways they want, you get a few clicks but no fill for the loneliness.
Use FB,IG, SC, Tinder all you want but in the end you will be no better off than when you started since there is nothing gained. I can use it to dump my thoughts into the ether but I dont expect anyone to read it, and no reward will be given for the effort. It has its merits but they are few. FB is great for connecting to the family and friends you already know but rewards you by making meaningless fake friends with no geographical filtering. Friends without the actual benefits of being one. It is devoid of filtering to location, unlike Tinder. Tinder on the other hand is devoid of emotion, information, and compatibility. You are given enough to explain yourself in emoticons and maybe your dick size :) but all you did was find out of someone 5 miles away swiped right, which is usually done be default for people not wasting time. So you match and it is cool you are close but now you have to sift through all the fake matches and see if you are compatible by having shitty after shitty conversation with people too busy maintaining their social media presence to respect your time. Also beware of neckbeards and the crazies. Other sites like OKCupid have personality matching by asking questions, sounds cool until you realize you match with an 80 year old woman or man in Novia Scotia, too bad they didnt have age or location sorting. It is no wonder ghosting exist, that people have moved their respect of the fake meaningless friends that accrue on social media and it has bleed over to someone literally unswiping you in front of your face and not caring about a human they were intimate enough to reply with one sentence over a text.
Twitch(Also any live shows with chat) is an interesting case for me. People watching gamers play is a simplified term for what it really is. The parts, well some, missing in other applications. For example, FB should have geographical filtering so Tinder half asses it. FB should have ways to talk to others and socialize so another app will half ass the lack of it by creating something that almost gives you everything but not quite to keep you along. Twitch fills in the gap of chatrooms no longer existing but also plays to a need of the socially awkward in the guise of gaming. What it really is, is a sense of community without the need for working on your social interaction skills. This is what is lacking in the current apps, this is why men cant put together 3 sentences before they say "I hope you get raped" for being ignored. So they go into a chatroom while someone is gaming who is successful because they talk to the discontent and not because they are good at them. These people are the therapists, a way to belong while remaining awkward. They can have one sided conversations with other regulars but they can still have a connection with the streamer of vlogger who reads their comments and validates them.
You really do have to appreciate the gift of gab, especially when it pays to keep the fans relevant, if you watch the successful ones they are really good at stringing people along and keeping then engaged by responding, the game is secondary: (link) https://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Fortnite
It is no wonder an asshole who couldnt keep friends failed at successfully making an application where people have the same effect. They are just not capable of it sometimes, and other times your mental health has nothing to do with profits so it takes a bad seat. Much like our democracy got in the way of paid ads during our presidential campaign, we wonder why we keep getting sicker and never understand that the tools we have at our fingertips have not helped us at all but have made us worse if we put any faith in them. While developers not listening to the users in an Office suite may effect productivity, and a developer not listening to a user on a game may effect entertainment. Social media applications can effect your life, your stress levels, your sleep, your job, your mental health. So we better make damn sure we take that into account when we keep looking to them for happiness when I know they can never bring it.
