Porsche is more open with Chay about the fact he gets money from fighting, he tells Chay about his fights and how he got the injuries. Porsche often complains about this one fighter called Wik. Wik is clearly one of, if not the best fighter Porsche has ever seen, but he clearly just plays with his opponents, each fight is like a game to Wik. Porsche is annoyed because it doesn't seem like Wik even cares about the money, he's never seen Wik collect his prize money, Wik is just there for the thrill of toying and beating people up. Porsche hates him. Also the fact Porsche has lost every fight against Wik.

Chay continues to sneak into the fights even when Porsche isnt fighting that night. Then one night, someone pulls a knife out during the fight and Kim gets stabbed. The wound is bad, not like he gonna bleed out and die bad, but it will take a while to heal. Kim was taken off guard as he wasn't expecting a knife, but he managed to stop the guy quickly.

Chay is beside Kim in seconds, and Kim is leaning against him and asking Chay if he knows how to fix a stab wound before passing out against Chay.

Chay knows nothing about Kim and if there is someone he should call to come get Kim and therefore the only thing he can think is to take Kim to Chays home. Luckily Porsche was working at Yoks that night

When Kim wakes up, Chay is sitting in a chair staring at his phone.

Then Kim asks how Chay knew what to do for a knife wound since he's not actually a medic for the fights.

Chay asks how Kim found out and Kim just says he was fighting one night but Chay wasnt there and when he asked about someone to fix him up the guy laughed and said there was no one who did that, all the fighters took care of themselves. It wasn't hard to figure out.

Chay feels embarrassed about being caught and asks why Kim continued to let Chay help him when he knew Chay was lying.

Kim remains silent.

Its then that Porsche returns and Chay asks Kim to stay in his room at least until Porsche went to bed and Kim could sneak out without Porsche finding out Chay let practically a stranger into their home.

When Chay comes back to tell Kim the coast is clear, his bed is already empty and his window is open. Theres a note on his bed. All it is is Kims phone number.

Okay first of all, this is not a retraction of my earlier critiques. I stand by all of them. Just check my prev post(s) about it, I wrote a lot because I was frustrated a lot by the dumb!Percy perception. Anyway. This is me, trying to find a possible reason why Im so pissed.

The difference between HoO and the new books is visible, largely because of the change of POV. Were back in Percy’s pov and yes, Rick probably forgot how to write him without including his girlfriend after every other thought. But also, were back to oblivious!Percy’s narration.

Like I said Percy’s incredibly perceptive and empathic to every other people and beings that is not himself. This guy still does not get why Annabeth likes him, he thinks everyone thinks he’s dumb, it takes a while for him to notice if someone is interested in him, he doesnt think he’s powerful at all, he thinks he’s a loser in all fronts, hell he thinks he deserves to die sometimes. Thats just how he is, he’s self deprecating even in the og PJO.

Which is a stark, stARK contrast to EVERYONE ELSE’S perspective of him in Heroes of Olympus:

Exhibit A: His entrance in Camp Jupiter wherein Hazel actually thought he’s a god in disguise. Then he created whirlpools that destroyed the gorgons and terrified the everloving shit from the Romans. Then he just proceeds to be this regular, lost, anguished guy in his own perspective while Hazel and Frank are literally so moved and an awe of him. Reyna and Kinzie both found him attractive at some point. He made PRAETOR in a week, most of it he wasnt even at CJ. Thats highly indicative of how people see him.

Exhibit B: Annabeth’s description of seeing him again in MoA. Im gonna get back to this later but do recall that he became taller and had put on muscle according to Annabeth herself. Strange of Rick to contradict himself SIKE

Piper called him unimpressive, which is interestingly the only instance he got called that but then again Piper was also under Hera’s heavy enchantments to have feelings for Jason so Im not gonna blame her at all.

We have more Im sure but were gonna stop there lest I never get to the point. So we basically see Percy in all other angles in HoO, and everyone respected him Until the end of BoO: When Rick had him say “lets fight stuff” in contrast to Jason’s war cry; When Reyna made that paperbag comment which I still havent forgotten nor forgiven. There was essentially no question of Percy’s importance or power until the end of Blood of Olympus.

Then. We get to the new books where Percy is once again in charge of the narration. He cant help but see himself as dumb, especially when he’s struggling to finish his senior year when his girlfriend is a shoe in to graduate. He’s insecure. He’s cut off from his new friends, that I think, is something so sad because what he, Hazel and Frank had was so special. He probably hasnt been to camp at all since the quest ended because of all the paperwork he had to do to get into a new school and start catching up so he can graduate on time. On top of that- those recommendation letters that still do not make sense at all.

Add all of that to the trauma and all the schoolworks he’s doing just to catch up, his self esteem took a hard dive and this affects the narration.

I think we got used to seeing Percy from an outside POV that we got a hard time adjusting when we got back to his little self deprecating self.

I’ll be clear: This doesnt absolve Rick’s writing from liability. How Wottg was writen was still a choice- but it leaves me this shallow hope that it can still be resolved better in the next instalment(s). I want this addressed because why does every other character get to have peace except Percy? But I digress. Thats a post for later.

So we can look at the new books and not take the descriptions of himself not too hard, because this kid is truly struggling with seeing worth in himself. We can also blame Rick, because while Im trying to defend this Im also pissed at Percy’s situation. Some characters do not add up at all.

As a final note, here Im gonna address Percy and Grover describing Percy as scrawny in wottg. Which directly contradicts everyone else’s description of him in HoO. Three ways to look in this scenario:

1. Tartarus had affected his physical well being badly.

2. This is Percy being an unreliable narrator again and Grover being a little shit at the wrong time

3. And the one Im subscribing to the most- this was influenced by Walker and Aryan’s dynamic. Again, I will die on the hill that the pjotv main trio was perfectly cast and they can do no wrong. But that dialogue was probably more appropriate coming from Aryan, not Grover. I did notice that Walker and Aryan both kind of look up to the actors they see as “ripped” (theres that one hilarious interview that they were gushing on Charlie being “jacked”- their words, while Leah was weirded out). So Grover’s comments about Percy’s physique was probably Rick trying to fit Walker and Aryan’s dynamic into their characters. Which, in my opinion, is unnecessary. Because those actors embody their characters already so well, theres no need for adjustments, no need to incorporate what Walker and Aryan are like irl into the books because they already do their jobs so well. Whatever dynamic Grover and Percy will have to portray in any future books, I have no doubt that these two can and will deliver an incredible performance so why need to incorporate in their irl personalities between Grover and Percy? Idk, Rick may be doing this subconsciously, maybe intentionally but eh, I just think theres no need. Let Grover and Percy stand as they are and Walker and Aryan (and Leah) stand as they are. The merging just makes Rick contradict himself. Percy is literally on the swim team so it doesnt quite track?

So dont take it too hard, its probably just Grover messing with him and Percy taking it harder because of his poor mental state.

why the emilia camp thinks otto is their most threatening member 👍

i see some people being confused on why the emilia camp collectively seems to agree that otto is the biggest threat there for some reason and like. yeah. i get it.

but let me explain real quick why i think it makes sense for the emilia camp to think that :O !!

otto though is disarming because. well okay look at him he doesnt look threatening at all. he has the looks and personality of a wet cat. hes whiny. hes cringe fail. he gets stressed out with paperwork. he looks like you could just smack him around like a bug. he HAS been smacked around like a bug. but that makes him unpredictable because apart from roswaal, he is the Most Amoral one there. you can expect roswaal to be trying some shit, but youd never know when to expect otto is planning something. his moral compass is just “does this benefit me or my loved ones in some way? if not, then its gonna be gone 🥺”.

sure, he does nice things sometimes out of the goodness of his heart. he genuinely means well a lot of the time.

but also then you read the shit hes thinking in his internal dialogue and its like.

“should i go save some girl i dont even know from bandits??? hmm lemme think for a couple minutes. im the only one that can help rn… some guy claiming to be her dad is begging me to help his daughter, but also hes kind of annoying… but i dont even live in this city so why should i help… or Care. actually. but i feel kinda bad about this girl… but also this is gonna put me and my profits in danger… but if i reject helping then im forever gonna be known as the guy who abandoned them and then i wont be able to make any sales in this city anymore :<<<< ……anyway im gonna help them then lol im so smart.” and then he gets captured by the exact same bandits anyway so hes like “well okay now me and this girl might be sold into slavery so i might as well save both of us or ill feel bad ☝️☝️”

except all the back and forth Calculation he does in his head Stays In His Head and doesnt match up with his outward appearance most of the time. which means that sometimes his words dont match up with his actions. “dont be surprised if i leave at the first sign of danger,” he says, right after risking his life and writing a suicide note over a dude hes known for like four days. “ahah thanks for giving me a vacation to see my family…” he says, damn well knowing he cant go back home yet otherwise he’ll get sniped by assassins. “im gonna give you some of my own money bounty money to help you BUT BUT BUT DONT THINK THAT IM NICE OR ANYTHING I NEED MOST OF THE MONEY FOR REPAIRS OK YOU CAN ONLY HAVE A BIT :<<<“

this also means that whenever otto says or does something Particularly Questionable, all his friends are still kinda blindsided by it because otherwise otto seems Mostly Fine in comparison to whatever the hell everyone else has going on. hes just a wet pathetic cat of a guy ahah. theres nothing more going on with h—

At All.) knew about all the shit hes done and been through with rbd, subaru would INSTANTLY be skyrocketing up the Most Threatening People list. but at the same time subarus less threatening than otto in the sense that subarus Always going to want to do good. hes Always going to want to save everyone. hes Extremely forgiving, on top of that. he goes along picking up friends everywhere he goes in his own Incomprehensible Unhinged Way and hes fond of All of them.

otto? yeah his opinion of you could shift on a dime and you could end up in his personal shit list unless youre one of the *checks list* *clears throat* maybe like ten people he cares about. and even if youre on the I Care About You! :) list, he could still get pissed enough at you to, i dont know, punch a wall over you? and spiral into obsession? and even if hes not upset at you hes still gonna mansplain manipulate malewife his way to his goals <33

and yeah of course subaru is also Mansplain Manipulate and Gaslight Gatekeep but at least he has way more good intentions AND his attitude about it is gonna be like "sorry :<<< i just gotta do this for your sake :<<<<<< :((( haha dont worry about it". subaru would never ever want to do anything big to hurt his loved ones (except for rbd). while otto doesnt even bat an eye. everyone can be manipulated if he has to. he goes down his list of Things I Need To Do and goes "yeah that had to be done. oh well. anyway i got more shit to do (like maybe kill a toddler lol)"

also lets talk about roswaal's perspective really quick. post-arc 4 hes like "well subaru-kun is always gonna want to save everyone and hes doing a pretty good job of things in general so whatever lol. i can still keep him in check by killing everyone if even one of his friends dies :)". so its like. YEAH subarus an Unhinged Wildcard. roswaal knows that. but right now subaru is more predictable and also again, roswaal knows he can keep subaru in check by making subaru have to reset if roswaal really needs to.

but otto? yeah ottos second in line for being an Unhinged Wildcard. but whats even worse is that otto is Basically Subaru but More Calculating and with a moral backbone thats Near Nonexistent. roswaal was genuinely concerned for otto in arc 8 for once and there was still Literally No Stopping Otto from being a stubborn little shit whos hell bent on all the maladjusted insane mentalities hes got floating around in his head, half of which he doesnt even say out loud, and all of which he thinks is Completely Right and that theres Nothing Wrong with what hes doing.

and also otto being underestimated and Not In The Tome was a big help as to how subaru got the win over roswaal in arc 4 👍and then otto Continues to try keeping an eye on roswaal after arc 4, to the point of getting roswaal's tome and actively trying to investigate roswaal's actions, so roswaal is Very Aware that otto is. a bit of a threat. roswaal of course is smarter and more powerful than otto though, but that still doesnt change the fact that otto is still capable of being a threat if roswaal doesnt Also kind of keep an eye on otto back. because roswaal kind of lost to otto already in arc 4!!

but okay, on top of all of this, no one knows the full extent of whats going on with otto, not even roswaal (though he has his Suspicions), and most definitely not subaru yet (whos Still a bit of an otto apologist anyway), and otto is already a bit menacing even without knowing All of that. and the rest of the emilia camp are already a bit more lenient with roswaal (as hes seemingly chilled out after arc 4 + they all need him still). that, and you can easily Expect roswaal post-arc 4 to be suspicious and Probably up to something. you wont know what it is, but you wont Exactly be surprised when it happens.

and also roswaal isnt publicly batshit crazy like otto is. otto of course isnt as Openly Weird as subaru, but otto is still Openly Unhinged and Pathetic. just look at him declaring julius and anastasia, HIS CAMP'S ALLIES, as enemies right to their faces alsdfjlsdjfl.

and with subaru, there is Zero doubt in the emilia camp's minds that subaru wants the best for them and everyone around them.

otto though? yeah he also wants whats best for the camp. he Cares about them, he really does. but hes so obviously Questionable by the time you get to arc 8 to the point where the entire rest of the camp starts eyeing him like this:

theres also the fact that ottos dp allows him to have eyes and ears Everywhere so long as he doesnt overuse it. that paired with his Intelligence, Stubbornness, and Lack of Morals or self-awareness/sometimes guilt/regret over his actions is dangerous. theres a reason why gluttony if subaru decided to flood The Entire Surrounding Area Around Otto. the flood took away the potential army otto couldve made out of the animals and allies otto had in the city, and once you do that, whats otto going to do against someone like shaula? all of ottos power regarding his People Skills and Animal DP was stripped away.

but if that Isnt stripped away... well honestly otto can do whatever the hell he wants the moment he figures out a solid plan to try and get what he wants. his biggest ability at the core of what makes him dangerous is his ability to quite Literally be in the background. so long as hes underestimated, so long as he still has secrets, no ones gonna know the full extent of his bullshit!! you cant stop him if you dont even realize what hes going to do, and hes Good at doing that!!

and if gluttonybaru hadnt taken out otto, subaru would be skyrocketing right to the top of ottos shit list after subaru literally just killed All of ottos (and previously subarus.) loved ones. otto wouldnt stop until he figured out how to destroy subaru. its to the point where im pretty sure if otto had to choose between destroying half the world vs kill gluttonybaru once and for all, otto would certainly choose one of those options in a Heartbeat.

anyway. if youre an emilia camp member, and you see the dude whos in charge of the Vast Majority of the factions political affairs, the guy who you Know is very intelligent and competent and determined when it counts, say shit like "if everyone dies in this entire country i wouldnt even give a single flying fuck as long as our friends get back safe and sound :) it would be such a loss if the entire country lived but our friends didnt :<<<" OF COURSE I WOULD BE LIKE YEAH THAT GUY IS THE MOST DANGEROUS ONE HERE. HE HAS THE SKILLS AND THE MOTIVATION TO BACK UP THAT STATEMENT AND I WONT EVEN KNOW WHEN ITD HAPPEN. he also has the Mental Instability to back that up too, given the amount of times he spends drinking and Raging and Being Terribly Anxious over Every Little Thing.

and otto has, for the most part, some of the most normal trauma compared to a bunch of people in this cast (not to discount ottos trauma and pain or anything but its true lajdsfls sorry otto. but also im not sorry because arc 5 was partially on you T^T). he doesnt have rbd, he doesnt have some weird family drama bullshit going on like the astreas or emilias family or the segmunts, he hasnt been erased by gluttony, etc etc. but hes still like this. if you put him in subarus position and gave him rbd, he would get even worse than he already is.

yeah so anyway thats my quick rambley psa about why i think it makes sense that the emilia camp's voted otto as the most threatening one there 👍

but the fact that we (the audience) (or at least some of us!!) keep questioning why the hell the emilia camp thinks otto is the biggest threat there is means that otto's funny silly guy image is. Kind of Working??? just a little bit.

because. granted. of course i think subaru is easily the most threatening person there with both His Flavor of Insanity and rbd. subaru is an eldritch horror in every single way. but at the same time - hes an eldritch horror who thinks friendship is the best magic of all T^TT !!! he FORGIVES PEOPLE WHO'VE KILLED AND TORTURED HIM. hes not threatening in this sense - the fact that hes kind of just way too nice in this sense!!! granted yes, he IS abusing rbd and Terrifying and Threatening in a multitude of ways, but i'd rather take my chances with mainbaru over main otto right now HAH T^TT at least subaru will apologize and start bawling his eyes out if he stabs some random innocent civilian and stranger in the gut for Some Necessary Reason!! otto would feel a bit bad and then completely Eradicate that feeling of guilt with "i had to do it. it was them or me so no regrets <3".

im still working on the rest of the episode but heres my preliminary takes on the teen van/tai scene in the first third. basically no proofreading ; mostly just vibes ; real analysis will come later expanding on all of this.

Van I love you thank you for taking care of tai during this. Normally I must read fanfiction for this part <3

Tais trying so hard. Shes got it too. Shes a good shot, it’s easy at that range but her form is good and shes steady. But she just cant quite get herself to do it. Tai is entirely fine with the hypothetical or the in theory portion of everything theyre doing in the wilderness - but really struggles with the reality. it was at this moment I said ‘when her cortisol gets high enough other tai will take over just let her gets stressed about it and she’ll be fine’ so when van said it too?? Van you’ve just gone up in my estimations luv you pls keep taking care of tai <33 

‘Whatever its a stupid tree its not our coach’ anyways other tai is symbolic of the teams cognitive dissonance and if you ever see me theorizing about the camp not being how they are seeing it I only ever mean it in a ‘theyre so deep in cognitive dissonance they aren’t seeing things for what they really are and are making them a bit better’ and not a theyre hallucinating way. Very similar to how other tai just takes over and takes care of tai when tai cant handle things. (Which is also why friend tai is no longer in state senate - OTHER TAI WAS THE ONE RUNNING please pay attention to tai tawny makes it so obvious and y’all just miss shit sometimes with her and I really do have to resist making the accusation but like y’all are doing the thing!!!!) and ways I digress ill press play again I could and would like to at some point write a dissertation on tai shes going in the Clara Oswald pile. 

“Us no me” UGH I love tai. Tai is the one that has to do it. No matter what. Van just has to watch her. But , at the same time, van has to deal with tai, help tai. Van is making it about themself but is also realistically the only thing keeping tai functional through it all. Its all very interesting character dynamics that is too long to type out fully for this im putting a pin in it to come back to later ~~~~~~~

What If I miss into then he’ll really want to die into what Shaunahat did…. Yeah… foreshadowing to the max there. BUT its not on tai so thats nice thanks Shauna

As discussed in the tawny scene; I think van knows other tai too well. and is questioning it here as well. Which is why van follows up with ‘you still think hes guilty right?’ - the whole bit isnt out of the blue - van is now worried it was tai, and so is gently interrogating to make sure tai doesnt just happen to remember doing it. As long as neither of them know, pretending it wasn’t tai is very easy. But it doesnt shake the worry, not entirely.

Now also though - why isnt tai sleepwalking ? Because they aren’t in danger anymore. Nat is leading them well, they are safe. As we shift into Shauna leading, I expect we will see other tai more. Just a higher stress environment when miss angry bubble is in charge (not slander just facts)

Also I love how hesitant tai was about it - also it gets s okay and cute omg I love wlw ; ‘yeah’ oh van you are so whipped I love it (me too) 

Y’all still ofc tai is the bottom and van is the top ; tai likes to feel safe - therefore tai likes control - therefore tai likes to be around all of that - but tai is also a little sweetie who , once again, likes to feel safe. And van makes her feel safe. Safe enough to not be in control. To not be the one with the power. To be the bottom. this isnt even sub plot this is just tais personality.

Interesting that other tai also uses she/her pronouns think this is the first time we have confirmation on what other this pronouns are just taking note to remember.

...it got so long i think im gonna have to put a read more so it doesnt mess people's dashboards

in group settings or everyday life, Uenuku is rather laconic and reserved, doesn't express himself too much (Hineila would speak for him sometimes, even if she often misrepresent his thoughts/intentions so he'll step in anyway) but he does get into long monologues if asked for his input or when teaching them things like survival skills or how to use the terrain to your advantage during a fight

this post... one of my fav hcs about him...

he has very strong opinions and convictions, and is very resilient and stubborn at times, even if he doesn't look like it at first

to him an ideal world is one where people would be united together and help one another out and where everything is fair for everyone. it wasn't necessarily the case in ancient natlan but he tried to do his part

judging by the line that Hineila repeatedly advised him to abandon his village but he refused, I think he was very attached to his village and really wanted to protect them

he was a traveling fighter when he met the team, going around helping weaker people/settlements and fighting abyss/criminals/etc

he's good at persuading and convincing people when he needs to, and also very good at reading others

Hineila, on the other hand, is more talkative and friendly

she only cares about her mission so this friendly act is, well, an act, to earn their trust

she started getting attached to Uenuku, and to his friends too to a lesser extent, but she refused to admit it to herself until the very end because to her it would be like betraying Egeria and the mission she gave her

to Hineila the absolute worst thing that could happen ever would be for her to betray Egeria (in the end it was only the second worst, the first would be uenuku dying)

if there were multiple Oceanids, she was the 'leader' of the group and the most respected and prevalent one in general (even if she wouldn't necessarily see it in that way because to her they're all loyal to Egeria and not her anyway)

(also btw

i think she chose Uenuku specifically because he has similar motives as this heheh)

Uenuku is very good at using the environment and surroundings to his advantage, and analyzing the terrain, whether it's in combat or for everyday life out in the wild. his fighting style is very strategic and analytical. he has also a very good sense of direction and even if he's lost he's the most likely to find the original road back this earned him to be the team's navigator, they often turn to him to ask what the best road is to take, is this edible or not, where the hell they are in the middle of nowhere

Hineila mostly likes to find a water source and sit close to it when they're idle the wiki states that Callirhoe is the only one shown to be able to give a blessing, but Hineila says she'll bless Uenuku's spear... so i like to think she gave him a blessing similar to Diona's drink blessing... probably to make him stronger or maybe to make the spear unbreakable or something in combat she's more of a support, and since Oceanids can all summon water mimics of animals I hc she did too to assist in battle among the team, well her role is kinda Uenuku's assistant but she's also very good with water, diving, swimming etc so if they need to go underwater for some reason or scout ahead on an island separated by water they'll send her

back then Meztli was a pretty small and weak tribe and were often attacked but protected one another and were all solidary despite all when Uenuku was little everyone did their best to protect him as much as possible, even if well he still saw people die and his village get attacked i think that's the root of his belief in unity and also he wants to protect them back (i also had a random hc that his dad was the village chief and i cant stop thinking about it)

Hineila well has the standard Oceanid backstory hahah, was given the mission then dispatched to Natlan

I like to think (bc i like angst and tragedy) that Uenuku didn't wholly trust Hineila until the end. he saw her agenda since the beginning and even though he could tell she changed a little bit since the beginning, and part of him hoped she could change and become genuinely close with them, he still didn't completely trust her when she died for him it was the last thing he expected and he regretted not having trusted her more, even when he could tell she had a small change of heart, because, well, she did the ultimate sacrifice, her own life, for him

it sounds to me like Uenuku & Ixquieh had similar views and goals?? so they understood each other very well like imagine them talking about their ideal world then enjoying a moment together in silence just enjoying each other's company... he's the closest to her i think...

Hineila doesn't like her horrible influence on Uenuku, but also... Ixquieh is nice enough to her and one of the most accepting, despite the fact that Ixquieh is rude and withdrawn... but looks out for Hineila whenever possible?? she's conflicted as hell whether she likes Ixquieh or can't stand her (spoiler: she does like her, she's just in denial) Ixquieh was actually wary of Hineila at first, but then deemed her to be harmless and treats her like she treats everyone else (standoffishly but also looking out for them constantly and loving them, even if she isn't the best at expressing it)

Uenuku&Maghan are also quite close. i thought about them stargazing together... (id say Uenuku also taught Maghan a lot about traveling bc Maghan never went out of his remote fog shrouded village but, given that Maghan joined like first or second and Uenuku joined last... lol) i think they were very close... both find the other easy to talk to and like to spend time together...

i think Maghan is kind of like. the caretaking figure for a lot of them. for Uenuku, but also Hineila. she'll die before admitting it though... literally. he's kind of like. a calming presence to her? no judgement, no stupid decisions, no constant yapping, no constant questions about why she's here, it's nice and calming to share a moment with him sometimes hear me out on Maghan Hineila friendship though. they're both devoted to someone they love. Maghan is genuinely so and doesn't hide it, Hineila... has to act with her facade of yes i'm doing everything for him but at this point she's still planning to use him, but imagine they have a heart to heart one day and it makes her think a lot more about what Uenuku truly means to her (of course, in the end she brushes these thoughts off with "that stupid priest is putting ideas into my head")...

Hineila was annoyed by Lianca at first. too chatty, asks too many invasive questions, is definitely trying to gauge out her true intentions. but Lianca also went the extra mile to make her feel welcome? and looks out for her? and acts like that with everyone? i think, at the end, Lianca was Hineila's second favorite (after Uenuku, of course) Lianca... I think immediately welcomed Hineila and didn't scorn at her or anything. not in a naive blind trust way ofc but she thought everyone deserves to be treated kindly and as long as Hineila doesn't try anything. Lianca was very curious about this new species from a faraway land and was interested in conversing with Hineila and hearing her story... ofc Hineila wasn't like super receptive or would lie or conceal truths Lianca would make sure that Hineila knows she's welcome, at least with her, because she's a different species from a whole different place and might be homesick or feel out of place. of course Hineila didn't concern herself much with these issues, it was her mission and nothing else, but maybe a part of her appreciated it?

Uenuku deeply admires Lianca. the way she can easily befriend everyone without looking like she thinks much about how to persuade them, the way she acts so carefree and merry even in bleak situations, the way she's so. strong and confident, much more than himself, and established her own settlement where she takes in weak people and protects them... she's basically what he wishes to be, but he's not even jealous he's just admiring and her thinking he's endearing... her agreeing with most of his views except except the "when he becomes king" part... (and he's like omg lianca is agreeing...) they're the friends of all time i love them

i want Hineila&Och-Kan to be a Duo. idk but they're the only not fully humans of the team so they had to right. i'm not sure they'd be friends if he knew that 1/ she is a spy 2/ for some god who is decidedly not xbalanque 3/ she tries to take advantage of natlanis even if in the end she genuinely cared. but obviously she wouldn't tell him that, it'd make her suspicious and that's the last thing she wants. sooo they're friends. sorta. and he has esteem for her skills but i like the parallel, Hineila saved and protected her beloved and what he stood for despite not originally wanting to. and Och-Kan, well... is the opposite...

Och-Kan admires Uenuku's skills (i love how his diary is written, when having to explore an underground ruin he thinks of Uenuku first and the Oceanid later), I like to HC Uenuku admires Och-Kan's skills as strategist and dragon interpreter too... (idk if it's just me but the people of the springs use a lot of dragon tech.. yk like spiritways and ntm Hanan Pacha being right above them... what if... Och-Kan translated for them a lot...) Uenuku thinks it's a shame that Och-Kan hates his draconic part so much, he thinks he could be a wonderful example of two species coming together. he does try to convince him to be easier on himself and dragons but... well, Och-Kan's the only one Uenuku couldn't use persuasion on

Ahpub & Uenuku, I think, possibly had their disagreements and clashes. it seems that Ahpub tended to want to beat the opposition, while Uenuku tended to be accepting and even accepted a shady sus water fairy. Ahpub isn't also a fan of the Uenuku/Ixquieh friendship, because this guy is too lenient and naive and is a bad influence on his sister (the entire reason Ixquieh was close with Uenuku is because they agreed with each other to begin with, but... go explain that to the dude who stabbed her). but ultimately they're companions, so Ahpub will still look out for him, and Uenuku still hopes they can agree and be closer one day

Ahpub is distrustful of Hineila and doesn't miss an occasion to remind it to her or to the others. she's just like "say what you want" but internally she's like oh fuck he's on to me can't he shut up for once. i'm not sure they would be particularly close if it wasn't for the gang, but... well, similar reasoning as with Uenuku, she's still his companion

Uenuku on Yupanqui in a shellnut. they're so. different. they're both kind and accepting, but you have an analytical, quiet and meticulous one vs a loud reckless moron... but I think they adored each other... on the battlefield though?? they might not be as efficient as other duos because they'd be arguing on whether luring the opponent into a trap would be a valid way to get rid of an opponent or a cheating tactic that only a fraud like Och-Kan would use

Hineila acting friendly and caring to earn their trust even though she doesn't give a shit (or at least is convinced she doesn't)... and Yupanqui acting prickly and uncaring but has long admitted to himself at least that he loves them (the ones not named Och-Kan and Lianca at least, took a bit longer for him to admit he also liked them, especially Och-Kan)... Yupanqui saw and treated her like any other member of the group. he had no problem with her being an Oceanid or from a different land. he didnt have enough braincells to doubt her but also was very accepting in general. both were rather prideful so i can imagine they clashed but he forgot about it the next hour and she had more important things to do than wasting energy to beef with some self-important tagalong

Hineila and Xbalanque is like. two people having the friendliest interaction but with Layers - in truth he's subtly threatening her and she's subtly defying him he unnerves her a bit sometimes but she won't let that self proclaimed sun king best her he's on to her from the beginning so he's glad she's with his group so that he can keep an eye on her - even if he trusts Uenuku's reassurance that it's fine, he understands the suspicions but he knows what he's doing... when she dies though he acknowledges her as a hero of natlan who gave her life for them

Uenuku and Xbalanque is so interesting to me. Uenuku is the bearer of "unity", yet Xbalanque is the one credited with uniting everyone. my Uenuku isn't really the type to be jealous or resentful (he's humble, and cares more about the people being united than who united them), but...makes you wonder Xbalanque is inscrutable. Uenuku struggled to read him at first but the more time they spent together the more he understood him and could tell if he had something like a moment of weakness or something bothering him... Uenuku's probably the only one in the group who can make Xbalanque a little uneasy by looking at him a bit too intently them having mutual respect...

as for how they joined the gang i'm thinking

either Meztli got attacked, the traveling springs duo and the team all came here to defend, met, sympathized and he came

or they went there as part of Xbalanque's tribe uniting tour to talk with the chief of Meztli, Uenuku happened to be back home for a short while to make sure everything was okay and they met, sympathized and he came

or they met in the wilderness, the springs duo found the team having suffered an attack with some injured members and brought them back to their own camp then helped them and then joined

or. Uenuku & Xbalanque both were starting to be known as traveling heroes and heard of each other, both wanted to meet the other and secure an alliance. they tracked each other down and yea

or a sillier one: team lost somewhere. everyone rejects the fault on someone else. Hineila & Uenuku happen to pass by, he tells them the various places they can get to from here and the directions. the springs duo were going in the same direction so they kind of travel together for originally a short while but then they kind of stay and the group's reaction is "finally a navigator!"

i don't know maybe i should just do a weird combination of all of these...

ace is deuce's annoying (/affectionate) bf that gets accused of murder (a maggie and gumshoe situation), also he works at trey's bakery (there's some sort of poison-in-the-food situation with ace's false charge) the savanaclaw trio are side characters, maybe witnesses, leona could be the uncooperative client in a case. acts like a tough guy but he's got a soft spot for ruggie & jack, takes them under his wing kinda the octotrio are very dubious witnesses. they very obviously hint at having some kind of involvement in whatever case is happening but nobody's sure if theyre joking or not, and they dont end up being any of the actual culprits in the end. but theyre still hella sketchy kalim is the one who gets accused of murder all the fucking time. he and silver are friends, so he kinda(?) fills the maya role? or like. larry but immensely better? idk, something like that. jamil is always trying (and failing) to keep kalim from being accused of murder, and he always calls silver up when kalim's been arrested💀 vil & rook are the obligatory movie actors (main characters in some global studios production, probably another steel samurai spinoff), epel is their adopted son but he likes to hang out with the savanaclaw trio (much to vil's dismay) ortho is idia's assistant & android brother, just like in twst (and maybe his human version's death has something to do with the "ten years ago" case that every game has) malleus is part of a very influential family, and ofc he gets accused of murder once. his case is when the players first meet riddle as opposition, because there is no way that sebek would EVER, in ANY UNIVERSE prosecute malleus. he just couldnt. lilia doesnt die (cuz as much as i love angst, i just couldnt do that) but instead after the first couple of cases he travels the world n does some stuff thatll probably be plot important (idk man) also silver & sebek have that beautiful wonderful opposing counsel romantic tension. im a silbek truther what did u expect. also sebek's gonna have a whole edgeworth arc where he gets accused of murder and he has to learn to trust silver and its gonna be GAYYYYY neige is a rival of vil's (like engarde and corrida except without the whole adrien & celeste thing cuz that was lowkey fucked up. and also the rivalry is mostly on vil's side) so maybe like neige gets poisoned (non-fatally probably) and vil gets accused for it or smth chenya is the recurring witness who is sometimes helpful and sometimes not-so-helpful. like lotta or oldbag but more helpful than them ernesto and gino are culprits in one of the cases probably. hey can we talk about how playful land was straight-up human trafficking. thats kinda fucked-up right. also scully might be a client who's a twist villain at some point. idk, i havent seen all of his event so all my knowledge is tangential.

OH I ALMOST FORGOT!! Also in this au, magic is just a thing that exists, much like in twst, where it’s like modern world-adjacent and also some people have magic 🤷 I just can’t imagine twst without magic, tho it might not be the exact same system n stuff… idk

After watching lots of talkloids and reading fanfics and all that it seems like all of their personalities are the ones everyone else gives them, but people seem split on how piko should act… well im gonna talk about all of their personalities because i love to talk (i also might add some of their mental disorders because thats one of my interests)

Im not too good as explaining personalities, more how characters interact with eachother.. sorry guys..

Utatane piko: he’s very introverted and doesn’t like to talk very much, he’s very kind and caring to others, he also has autism bcuz uhhh i dont know, he’s good with kids and accidentally gets into arguments with fukase because fukase will randomly say the most random things that are completely incorrect and when piko corrects him fukases like “no it’s totally this instead” and that ticks piko off. He’s always calm and is sensitive to loud noises and bright lights. He’s 100% the mom friend all of his friends wear bandages some place on their body so of course he would have to carry around some bandages. Fukase has lots of pain in his legs and never seems to carry around pain reliever so piko carries those around, he carries around earplugs mostly for himself but oliver will occasionally need some. Flower doesn’t really need anything, flower talks to piko the most out of the memesquad, she isnt very loud and is actually sensible unlike fukase. Piko loves all of his friends equally but fukase is very good at getting on his nerves.

Flower: she iss hard to explain, she has very little patience and probably some anger issues, depression, SH tendencies, but that really isnt her personality is it? She comes off as blunt, rude, angry, sarcastic, teasing, but that’s really how she shows love to her friends because to other people she isnt as close to she’s just really bland and closed off. Shes good at pushing people away, especially people who worry about her. She has a therapist dw. She doesnt really like physical touch at all except with some people (fukase..) she’s good with a little hand holding with someone younger than her, like mitoko or oliver.  She has a very angry resting face so that makes her kinda unapproachable and a monotone voice. She doesn’t like bubbly talkative people like her sister maika, or miku. And would rather die than be girly she loves looking like a guy. Unrelated but she also has crazy contol of her voice, like she can go from sounding like how guchiry tunes her to arbitrary sermon.

Fukase: he is very much like how everyone else portrays him because i think it is perfect. He’s mischievous, evil perhaps.. you can never take him seriously because he says the craziest things and sounds like he’s serious, much to olivers dismay, oliver cant tell when he’s joking so fukase makes it a little obvious he’s joking. He doesn’t really let people get to know him apart from stupid jokester guy, you have to really ask about him to get him to talk about himself but he might open up sometimes but jts really rare. He’s a bit more comfortable being himself around the memesquad, especially when theyre at someone’s house. He doesn’t have the best home life or mental state, he’s really concerned about going crazy for some reason, to the point where it might seem like he is crazy. He loves flower very much, and knows that, she would rather die than show fukase that she loves him, but she loves him too. He has some issues with his legs, i havent been able to figure out anything specific to give him but he has really bad pain in his knees and ankles, sometimes his hips, so he doesn’t walk around much if he can help it which only really makes things worse for when he does feel like being active. Him and oliver go on walks around the neighborhood and oliver has ever gotten fukase to climb a tree once. He doesn’t really show people he loves them but he does, alot, he’s really thankful for such good friends and will occasionally just text their groupchat “love you guys” and flower thinks he’s gonna kill himself every time, its make oliver start worrying about it too even though fukase has said that he doesn’t mean it like that.

Oliver: I’ve already done this on my Oliver headcannon post right.. i might just copy and paste some things from a doc that i have about hcs i have for him

The way he speaks is very cryptic and dark, like “i'm concerned for your home life” cryptic and dark, he’s fine though he just doesn’t have a filter cuz he’s AUTISTIC. Will not condone cursing. Talks quietly unless he’s with his friends or family. Homeschooled little dork who is horrible at social interactions, has trouble making friends his age. Has hyper empathy and will cry if James is too cute, also James is like his best friend he talks to him all the time. Is gullible but if fukase and len prank him one more time he will subject them to torture unheard of by human kind. (He will guilt trip them by pretending to cry) will text using proper grammar and always correct his friends when they misspell something. Talks to his stuffed animals and treats them like real people, sets them all up on the foot of his bed and covers them with a blanket when he changes. Has either sharp teeth or normal teeth. Has really soft hair but always hides it under a hat. Refuses to wear shoes unless they are a specific shoe that are comfortable enough. Is on Gumi and Otomatchi Una’s Minecraft server and is the only person who keeps them from killing each other. Lives next to Kaai yuki and she comes over when her dad is still at work, plays board games and sings karaoke with Oliver, Oliver sometimes plays dolls with kaai and James always ends up ‘eating’ their dolls. Kaai is better at Fortnite than Oliver is but Oliver gets really worked up and ends up rage quitting when Kaai kills him for the fifth time. Oliver can NOT sing deep he just sounds like he’s growling, but he can sing so high pitched only dogs can hear it /j. Stupid soprano boy He’s super duper edgy and only draws concerning things, fukase things it's verryy funny. He gets really excited sometimes and can speak loudly. Hates pomegranates. Ate dirt like ONE TIME  but everyone keeps bringing it up. Same with spiders. But he's done that multiple times. He’s had to get his stomach pumped twice. He “screams like a girl.”

In short he’s really sweet and shy to people he doesn’t know, talks morbid and cryptic around the memesquad but everyone thinks he’s baby,    With fukase he’s sarcastic, playful and talkative, still morbid tho..

similar to nell I think it happens during some big event- not as big as a crisis event alien invasion like nell but a citywide threat..(otherwise known as a regular tuesday in gotham), nell is out as ladybug helping out along with some gotham regulars (i imagine batman and nightwing are skulking around) shes not working WITH them exactly. theyre just out and shes also out at the same time and theyre fighting the same things. you see.

casey tags along sometimes when ladybug is out doing her thing because she lowkey doesnt respect nells job and thinks they can just combine patrolling and hanging out, BUT this time she actually stayed home. shes just laying on the couch, maybe scrolling her phone or finding something to watch on tv or dozing off into a nap when something hits their building. For the kind of big show-y jackass-y destruction thats happening in the city ive had it in mind this is a joker stunt. Not that thats super important even, hes not directly involved with casey blowing up. Anyways something hits their building and casey is crushed or...pierced by debris. She manages to fish out to phone (now cracked to shit) and calls nell for help (her reasoning being that nell will treat her as priority and come get her and help her ASAP meanwhile the ambulance's and police in gotham are pretty busy already)

Luckily, Nell picks up and immediately hears something is wrong even though casey (delirious and in shock) does not open with "there is a wooden beam lodged in my ribs come fucking get me" and instead is like "um...are you almost finished with work i think you should come home now. someone broke your window. its cold in here" but her voice is really strained and shes breathing kind of hard.

Nell is already speeding away but hes really far from their apartment and these stupid henchmen just keep getting in the way and its hard to keep casey talking when casey is usually the one DOING THE TALKING. but they do. keep talking together i mean. nell is kind of short with her at first because hes also kind of freaking but once casey starts panicking near the end when hes starting to realize hes cooked he starts lying to him telling him that hes almost there hes almost up the stairs and to just hang on a second more (hes like 20 blocks away)

at first casey was like. freshly in shock. so she wasnt talking about things like they happened. she asks nell to come home and clean up the glass on the floor because if she looked down and sees the blood coming out of her she was going to flip out or something. but the longer nell takes the more she starts to get scared and desperate and whiny (notice how i can find ways to insult her even as shes dying..now thats love) the more nell lies to her the more her solid faith in ladybug saving her ungrateful self is wavering. shes never let her down before! casey always follows nell/ladybug around and gets into trouble and nell always picks up her by the scruff of her neck and drags her back home. its basically what their relationship was built on, nell taking a random criminal home and promising to keep her on the up and up. nell is big and tough and strong and confident and independent and stable. these are all qualities casey really liked about nell right from the get go and its why, aside from being given a rent free place to live in, she stuck around this long even through the less desirable traits of hers and how insufferable she finds her sometimes.

in her fear (and pain) she starts swinging wildly between anger and pleading like "why arent you here yet!??! do you think im gonna die?? are you even coming?? are you doing this on purpose because youre mad at something i did.? WELL IM SORRY! FUCK! WILL YOU PLEASE COME GET ME NOW!!!!!!' (im sure this isnt doing anything to help nells stress levels. can someone tell her to relax?)

Nell.....did the smartest thing anyone has ever done in the history of the world, and before, when he took the call and nightwing noticed his alarm and comes down to say "hey is everything ok--" he brushes him off and speeds off to go deal with casey himself. Because casey is his responsibility and he doesnt really like nightwing. or any of the bats. nell is self sufficient, over confident, and (quoting from marty) "she has tunnel vision and chronic independence syndrome and by viewing caseys wellbeing as her own responsibility she has inadvertently doomed them" (unquote) (crowd booing sfx)

he could have asked for help from someone who could fly, or asked oracle to patch him through to an ambulance to get to the apartment faster than she could, or accepted nightwings offer to help knowing that hes more experienced than she is as a hero or done any number of things that would have to involve swallowing his pride, but he didnt and when he arrives back home casey is already gone

to be fair she wasnt really thinking straight. but wow, way to go nell. you really fucked that one up. can we cancel this heinous heinous bug?

when i compare our intrepid heroes death scenes in my mind i lol bcuz nell is like (coughing up blood) fuuuck i cant believe i loved that stupid girl. oh well. bleh. but casey in her last moments is like NO NO NO NO NO I DONT WANT TO DIE STOOOOP WTF WTF WTF

i think shes so panicked and frantic and scared in her last moments the complete opposite of nell accepting death and feeling content she did everything she could have (at least in regards to crimefighting that day)

she probably didnt even think it was a possibility until the last minute. shes so self confident. too self confident. some might even call it...stupidity.

in the way nell is letting her eyes creak shut thinking about a phantom image of casey and is just filled with regretful sadness, casey is not thinking fondly on ANY memory shes clutching onto her phone and wishing nells voice would jump out of the speakers and be there in front of her and carry her away and keep taking care of her FOREVER i mean keep financially supporting her until shes casted into the new scream film. she cant accept shes going to die. she wont accept it. she did so much hard work for so long to make something of her life and it was all just going to end in one night...she finally found a friend she could stomach the company of, actually enjoyed the company of, and it was all for nothing. AGAIN! these are depths of despair only previously felt when booster FIRED HER! she doesnt ..blame nell, exactly. well she kind of does. but its different than it was with booster. she put the full brunt of blame entirely on booster to shield herself from the possibility .. maybe her own choices and actions have something to do with the outcomes in her life? (NO NOT POSSIBLE) she is angry at nell for not being there. but shes also sad and confused and scared and all these mixed up emotions and even though shes angry at nell Somewhat she also...eugh....CARES about nell, and she thinks that nell also cares about her. (unclear in what way. and now we'll never know..SAD) so she isnt casting hexes on her like she had with booster, who she knew didnt really give her the time of day like ever. she just wishes she wouldve been there with her

but when have i ever given casey anything she wanted.

again, i advise you to go knock down martys door if you want more nell deets but im told ted and michelle support him through this (and isnt that more than casey ever got in the canon end? see..not so bad)

im also told he doesnt tell spider, caseys mom, about casey dying until 8 months after the fact. which im sure just about drives that poor woman over the edge. nell bishop are you ready to die..?

Writing down my thoughts while playing HI3 part 2 chapter 6:

Spoiler free TL:DR; What an absolute mess of a chapter. Were they just throwing things at a wall and seeing what stuck before trying to piece those things together into a chapter? At least it wasnt boring. I didnt have a lot of fun but the story kept moving forward, even if it went in circles sometimes.

Not sure how I feel about the flashback at the start of the chapter. Feels pointless unless its brought up, I just dont see why it would be brought up during this.

I really appreciate that Hoyo bothered to animate Theresa using the payphone. I know its not a hard ask, but boy they sure havent put much effort into dialogue animations for their other games

also im really starting to get tired of this "show us around every single place!" thing they've been doing. It just feels like, dont we have more important stuff to be doing than going on a tour? Like, the forward pace is a crawl. I miss when Kiana was investigating stuff in Arc City and we didnt need to go pick up a lockpick and some food from the local supermarket at the beginning of the chapter.

the armwrestling was really fun at first, but its really wearing out because theres literally no difference between them. I just spam B on my controller. For all 3 of them. Not even intensely. They were all as easy except the 3rd which wasnt a bar but I had to press B and... I already was. "Tap B to win" doesnt have much gameplay variation.

My god Coralie holds her attacks harder than Margit from Elden Ring does. The ding comes like a whole second earlier than her attack does and theres nothing like an adjustment of her wrist to react to before she launches her attack.

Very sudden Litost attempting murder. I didnt take him as the nicest of guys but this is certainly something to timeskip to.

also did I miss something or did Helia not have this helpless inferiority complex before? ... Did she fight Litost in the previous chapter, lost, and are only in Reimu because Coralie won? Am I remembering that correctly?

So Ajita is the evil Entropy person? At least this appearance of her? I dont see why she would appear and tp us away and then go "oh how sad, that girl you just saved is gonna die anyway". Is this Sparkle?

Yeah Helia, I dont understand where this came from. This part of your character wasnt there before this chapter, and its not like there was a particulary long timeskip between chapters 5 and 6. I get what they are doing, its similar to Mei chasing after Kiana. But with Mei it was Kiana being kidnapped, HoV defeating her, chasing after her in Arc City, being pushed away by Kiana, having Durandal reach Kiana first and stopping Mei from getting her, chasing Kiana to Nagazora, doing everything she can to find and help Kiana, and Kiana still pushing Mei away and, finally, over the edge.

For Helia she lost to Listost, I think? in the previous chapter.

12. I want to replay chapters 5 and 6 of part 1... They did looping and fixing the timeline way better back then. Helia's inferiority complex came out of nowhere and is clearly a focus for this chapter, I bet she's gonna do something stupid to try and prove herself, where was this the last 5 chapters?, meanwhile at the same time I dont even know why the 32nd Ten Shus War is critical?

13. That's the second time they've done a "the situation isnt as serious as it first appeared to be" twist

14. They're actually putting more than no effort into dialogue animations. I like it. They still havent fixed all characters turning around like a robot, but at least now there are about as many moments with good animations as there are moments with robot animation. Its an improvement!

15. Flashback chapter! Joy! Why does everyone have a sob story and why was this never hinted at before and why are they revealing it all now by thinking really hard about it? When Kiana had a flashback her dad pointed a gun at her. I sure hope that Helia's flashback wasnt just context for why she fainted upon seeing small Dudu.

19. My issue with their beef and Helia's inferiority complex is that that part of Helia wasnt present or noticably before this point. And Im not really even sure what triggered it. Was it her loss to Litost? "Talentless and unhelpful" is about the exact opposite as what Coralie described her as. Yeah if Helia wanted to be the strongest and greatest Valkyrie there ever was, I can understand how being "just" an A-rank is an insult, but then the question remains: where did THAT part of her character come from? She wasnt trying to be the center of all fights and the victor at the top in previous chapters, right?

20. This is not the same Helia that we had in chapter 5. It cant be. This inferiority complex is a fucking massive part of her character and I didnt see any of it the last 5 chapters. Im scratching my brain trying to figure out if I missed anything or just wasnt paying attention to Helia enough.

Killing people feels on brand for Litost, but belittling them in length? I feel like he would've just said something like "see? youre too weak." and be done with it, but this man is on his 3rd page of insults to throw at Helia.

I get that theyre doing it coz otherwise Laylah will kick them out if they go too off-script, and the Earth gang wants to find out why Kiana is sleepy, but like, I dont get the point of this whole simulation thing.

31. Genuinely the chapter could have basically started here after Chexue died in the past slice. Helia is back to what she was like before.

What a mess of a chapter. What's worse is that them killing of Coralie in one of the more bullshit, but also completely apathetic way for the rest of the characters - they really were about to just go straight back in. Ajita saves their progress, there is literally no rush. Mourning? Pssh, who cares?

Coralie's death is so random. If anything the chapter was setting up for Helia to die. The simulation being able to influence the real world wasn't even hinted at. Have one of the hologram girls lift a physical vase or something, at least that would have planeted the possibility! I could understand it if Coralie still felt pain and panic as she logged out from the wound she recieved in the simulation and had to recieve aid and be out of comission for a whie as she recovered, but "the doctors did everything they could..." really?

And again, they are just going to jump right back in? What writing decision is that? Yeah they'll have a meeting first but, again, what's the rush? Coralie is basically still in the emergency room. Not gonna take care of the body?

Im kinda not sad about her death, just because I find the writing choices around it kind of unbelieveable.

Like, what will Coralie's death bring that isnt Helia turning into MIC Helia AGAIN, or Helia having the same "I have to push forward" positivity thing that she has already had TWICE this chapter? The rest of the characters clearly dont care enough to even mourn Coralie's death. I guess they werent that close? I mean, they were inviting Helia to re-enter the simulation ASAP again. Do they just not care about her or Coralie at all? Havent they been partners for a period of time before this? Dont they think that maybe they should check on Helia first before inviting her back to the place her friend literally JUST died at? Like, LITERALLY JUST DIED at.

And again, what does Coralie's death mean for Helia? Is she going to go through what she just went through twice already? Is Helia going to shoot herself? Her clear inferiority led to Coralie dying (in her head), so if she isnt going to go through the same thing thrice, is she just going to kill herself?

Do Hoyo not care enough about the part 2 characters to not write a character arc (twice) right before a death that would trigger that character arc?

So Im trying to figure out what the difference between Himeko's death and Coralie's death is, and I think its the buildup to the climax that is missing for Coralie. For Himeko, there is several chapters of building and a lot of things are escalating and they're throwing everything they cant at the Herrscher of the Void and they just cant stop her, leading to the climax of a sacrifice play that doesnt even fully defeat HoV. The tension is built up over several chapters and a lot of focus is put on Himeko and Kiana over those 5 chapters (chapters 5-9) which leads to the final climax of HoV vs Himeko and a great animated fight scene.

After all the focus was on Helia this chapter, Coralie jumps infront of a sword in a simulation and dies irl. Bruh what.

How did Coralie even die? We didn't even get to see her condition. And she died off-screen.

So Walter probably isn't the only person buying/using old gen augmented humans but it's been fifty years, he's running low on potential hounds. But, I think he started with the handful of gen 1s he could get- Sulla was successful at both buying his freedom and then staying alive- and worked his way through the available people. Walter doesn't try to get his hounds killed- they're expensive to replace- but it still happens to most of them. The handful that have survived have mostly stuck around on Rubicon for a least a few years before finding a way off planet.

Related- Walter has only been worried about his hounds having a (stolen) callsign within the last few years- for most of the time hes been operating on rubicon it hasn't been that necessary for dealing with just the rlf, dosers, and sometimes the pca when he needed to

Between him using the Mind Beta core and Allmind's list of potential release candidates I put Rokumonsen as a gen 3 augmented human- he's a previous hound of Walter's who managed to buy himself free, but didn't manage to make it off planet/wasn't successful enough as a lone mercenary to keep himself going. He has fought against the RLF before as a hound, but Little Ziyi found a starving guy in a beat up AC and dragged him back to the base and no one's gonna poke into his history too far (they do know. RLF knows about Walter and his hounds and that they're active. Not any of his specific goals, just that he's a mercenary handler interested in Coral). Ziyi is the RLF's 'little sister' and she's not, like, Spoiled spoiled. But she is a little bit- anyone else dragging a random, beat up and starving mercenary home was gonna have some problems trying to do that but Ziyi mostly avoided that.

Rokumonsen kinda went from 'dude that doesnt talk to anyone and flinches if you yell near him' to. Haiku reciting, Japanese obsessed guy he is. He fills the 'any mercenary can do this' jobs the RLF have- if it's not something they need Raven or one of the coral warriors for Rokumonsen usually gets to do it. (Personal headcanon is he's ethnically Indian and speaks Urdu and taught himself Japanese).

If one of the coral warriors dies, the RLF usually has other folk trained to use ACs that will fill the slot, but it takes a bit to make everything official. Little Ziyi was not planned to be a coral warrior, at least not as young as she is, but The RLF is taking a beating right now and they didn't have a choice. Ring Freddie was also just a backup pilot for a long time, but. Needs must, and he'd been volunteering for a while to help Dolmayan. He has been a coral warrior longer than Ziyi or Durham, part of why he has a much nicer/upgraded AC.

Which. Ring Freddie is a lot more attached to Dolmayan than Dolmayan is to him. Dolmayan does care for him! Just. Freddie's got an unhealthy attachment and Dolmayan isn't turning it away. Freddie is the first paramour/partner/whatever Dolmayan's had in a long time, and just having him does help Dolmayan to some degree, just. Guy is fully aware a lot of people have died directly because of him, and no 'if we weren't doing this they would have died anyway from the PCA/corporations taking over the planet' is gonna help him.

Durham is more suited to a construction setting than an AC but one of his jobs is motivation- guy's a huge ham, he's good at it for the folk who aren't sold on the RLF. He's a very recent Coral Warrior and isn't even as used to it as ZIyi.

Flatwell and Dolmayan are the longest standing coral warriors at this point- Dolmayan has seen. Many, many many people die, mostly to the PCA, some to doser factions, recently more and more to corporations moving in. He's pretty numb to it at this point. Flatwell... cares, but. I like to think he's ruthless- he sees the way from where they are to where he wants them to be and his goal is to get there. Corporations moving in and causing problems have forced him to change plans and tactics.

Back to Ziyi, actually- she's been raised piloting ACs, but she is the most recent Coral Warrior and she has a less than great AC because she's mostly kept away from combat, at least as much as Flatwell can. She isn't his daughter, but she's not not his daughter, and she does get some preferential treatment. She and Arshile are good friends- they have a promise to both stay alive until the planet is liberated. In the liberator ending she's given a quickly fixed up Steel Haze while Rusty's out with Steel Haze Ortus.

Rusty... isn't officially part of the RLF. Despite everything else he's also working to free Rubicon from the corporations and the PCA but he and Flatwell don't necessarily see eye-to-eye on methods. Flatwell did get him 'noticed' by Schneider but Rusty figured out getting augmentations himself before hand (...and gender confirming surgery/hormone implant because listen I'm making Many People Trans and I Cannot Be Stopped). He says he's eighth generation but he's either ninth or Not Augmented and just looks like he is (not sure on which one i like more rn).
