I've been sticking to indie or less-popular works for these recommendations, but the most recent Interview With the Vampire episode destroyed me and I need to get more people in on this sweet, sweet suffering.

AMC's television adaptation of Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire is phenomenal. The season 2 finale airs next week, and I'm hoping very much for more. It's officially available via AMC+, and if you're at all into queer gothic horror, you have to check it out.

The basic premise is that an immortal Vampire named Louis tells his tragic story to a human reporter named Daniel. We learn all about Louis' life as a human, how he was turned into a vampire by his vampire lover Lestat, and how the two created a child vampire named Claudia to be their daughter. It's a messy domestic drama where every single narrator is unreliable, it's a horror show, it's tragic, it's queer as hell, and it's perfect for people who want to see mean, petty, mentally unwell, horny queer characters waging psychological warfare on each other.

I was very, very nervous when the adaptation was first announced. I'm a huge Vampire Chronicles fan, I was absolutely obsessed with Lestat as a teenager (...and also now...), and I was pretty firmly on the side of folks who were thinking, "we did this already, Queen of the Damned was a horrible (albeit still pretty fun) movie, we can just let the books stand on their own after that one."

When the casting announcements for Lestat (Sam Reid) and Louis (Jacob Anderson) were made, I got even more nervous. In the book, Louis is a white slave owner born in the late 1700s, and I was worried that the showrunners would just make Louis a Black character without examining or unpacking any of the anti-Blackness in the source material. I'd enjoyed Jacob Anderson's performance in Game of Thrones, and I didn't have any ill will against him, but I was genuinely worried a Black Louis was going to be in poor taste at best.

Instead of presenting Louis as a Black slave owner, though, the show reworked his backstory to make him a Black businessman in 1910s New Orleans. We get to know his family and his situation, and the dynamics of a queer interracial romance in turn-of-the-Century New Orleans add quite a lot of new depth to the story. Jacob Anderson deserves basically every award ever, because his performance as Louis is just...goddamn. He is the definitive Louis for me.

The show feels like a love letter to both the book series and the 1994 film. In the show, the interview takes place in 2022, and is framed as a second, "do-over" interview. It makes meta-commentary on the film and the books, and it's a real treat as a fan of the prior works. The constant little book references and hints for future plots are fantastic. The show loves the source material just as much as the audience does, and it never tries to say, "the old version sucks, we're doing it better." It's a loving tribute to my favorite messy queer vampires, and I need everybody to go lavish attention on it so it gets more seasons.

A/N: i'm already a huge sap in the notes, but this is, arguably, one of the most important fics i've ever written. for context, i wrote this while i was really down due to my entire family but me getting covid right before my finals and our winter vacation, so that left me alone in my room for 2 weeks. i was really down, especially since i couldn't spend christmas with my family as a result. however, writing this gave me something to pass the time, and the reception on it when i posted during a dark time in my life really helped. it's also the first swagdoons fic i've ever posted, so there's that too :) also, one of the comments of someone going back to read it a few months later also came while i was in a rough patch, so that really helped <3

Summary: Harry really needed some money, Dumbledore needed someone to dress up as Wendy, and Tom was the only one with the desperation to be Ronald McDonald. Why I rec it for this prompt: Harry and Tom as high school-aged fast-food workers is too good of a brilliant, absurdist crack scenario. another pretty dark one - i think it's actually a horror anime but im not sure? soooo. devastating but nothing inherently traumatising or major deaths if that helps. deals with a lot of societal issues imo but defiantly not that much of a comfort show. i would say it's intense for sure 💀

omg a classsic a favourite changed my life 10000000% and i'm not even being dramatic lol! genuinely so good it's 3 seasons and the first two are quite fun and cute and lighthearted but it also goes really deep and i mean reeeeaaaaalllllyyyyy dark in season 3 just like nonstop heart stabbing (not to spoil it tho but she's cute with very real and dark moments)

veryyyy cute !! has a dark side but the anime doesn't go in a lot of depth into it - also some very funny moments and love the found family trope of it! has action, humour, a lil itty bitty romance if we look closely and some angst and it's pretty quick paced and not sketchy or weird at all!! like very modest and safe yk?

ikkkk it's probably not the best but it's one of my favs for found family/friendship tropes !!! it's definitely very long and time consuming but it's so funny and i felt really attached to all the characters (and still do lol) one of the first anime's i watched so forever a defender lol

I’m honestly flattered that you’re asking so many questions! You are So lovely and So kind! Thank you for not leaving me hanging! Since it’ll be a long one (buckle up) I’ll do my best to make it entertaining.

Note – I use sarcasm a lot which doesn’t translate via text very well (especially when the tone for everything else is earnest) so if something looks or sounds hinky assume it’s meant sarcastically.

Blue – any kind of blue but particularly that strange stormy grey blue.

13. What Talents do you have

Well, honestly, my main talent is the ability to turn any object, or flat surface, into something lethal. I am ridiculously clumsy, accident prone and cause chaos wherever I go. I’m also really good at finding things – If someone is missing something I can usually tell them where it is maybe 8 times out of 10.

I can play music by ear – if I hear a tune I can hash it out on most instruments. I am exceptionally mediocre at the violin, terrible at piano and determined to learn the guitar.

Typical talent wise the only one I’m happy to say out loud is (like everyone else in Wales) I can sing. For everything else (writing, music, art etc.) I can do them but yeah… mostly the results are woeful!

15. Favorite song?

I really hate to be that person but there are too many. I even tried going through my playlists to pick out the ones I love and now I have a new playlist that is 200 songs long – and I still have two big playlists to go. I LOVE music.

I am happy for people to like send me a genre or theme though and I will always rec songs that I think fit! I like to think I have a song for every occasion (happy to be proved wrong!)

Yeah… Like I said, very accident prone. I have loads of scars! The ones worth an honourable mention are:

I have a solidly permanent (but thankfully pale) one on my forehead, multiple purple ones on my knees. I used to have a hell of a one on my foot from a 2nd degree steam burn (short… ridiculous story) but that is fading now. There’s a largish one on my leg from walking directly into a shard of glass and then two slash lines on the back of my forearm that look like I went up against a werewolf or something but are actually from falling into the oven as I tried not to drop a tray of Madeleines. I know right... badass…

52. Favorite food?

I am forever basic but I will go feral over Fish and Chips

Ohhh Indian probably – I love pretty much everything I’ve ever had in this style! Italian is a close second (anything with basil and tomato, I will turn equally feral over). I really love Persian style food too. The theme is... meat, spices, tomatoes flatbreads!

I have long hair (small of my back long) but I like either!

Yes actually! I have an open water dive qualification. Yeah it went about as well as you’re imagining. So many accidents and chaotic situations occurred (memorably not figuring out buoyancy so while making the assent I suddenly ballooned like a puffer fish and shot up towards the surface… like an out of control blimp. Luckily I was in an abandoned quarry and not coming from somewhere deeper than 6m)

Social Situations… and slugs.

I want to say something interesting like aubern but… brown. It’s brown.

My first impression of them hmm its funny bc i think i first watched edge of tomorrow in august and i was normal about it actually? i was like hm that was a good film but not the best of his movies for sure. i dont think i really understood most of it though so a rewatch was necessary, but that didn't happen until february and idk what clicked that didn't the first time but oh i am SOOOOOOOOOO insane about it now the lights are all flipped on

A childhood headcanon wawawa.... baby bill.... hm i have several small ones but i firmly subscribe to the headcanon that he was actually born in georgia because his mom is from there (it would explain EVERYTHING about him, especially because i also hc that his personality was just copy-pasted directly from his mom) but he moved to cranbury when he was like one or two so he considers himself "from cranbury, born and raised" anyway

A weird headcanon ok uhhhh idk if this is weird but it IS oddly specific so! he can make one (1) pie recipe! it's blueberry pie (cranbury is famous for it, according to google) and rita LOVES it. she's definitely not a sugar person and rarely indulges in anything at all but she's such a sucker for that fucking pie and bill is always over the moon whenever she gives him That Look that means she wants another slice but is too proud to ask

23. Future headcanon he takes rita to visit cranbury a couple years after they both fall into place beside each other and it's a very emotionally healing experience for both of them. he tells her lots of silly meaningless little anecdotes from when he was growing up while giving her the grand tour and rita isn't a very sentimental person either but she can't help how easy it is to picture him living in that cute little town when he gets so chatty about it :,)

(also rita eventually takes him to her hometown in wolverhampton and reluctantly introduces him to her very alive, very normal parents because i said so)

#1 and closests to my heart, is Fathers and Daughters

You can tell I was mentally ill about it, because I'm forever struggling to finish WIPs, the ADHD constantly going "Oooh shiny new idea? Just take a break, this will be a one shot" only to lie to me, or do it X times in a row. But not with F&D. I stayed glued on to that one.

Yeah I had a couple long hiatus, but I'm finally working on the last chapter and I can tell you I'm going to be taking myself out to dinner to congratulate lol

I passed 100k words!!! I never thought I'd manage. I don't think I'll ever manage again!

#2 Then the dreadful night shall break

A Dark!Obi-Wan fic. I had for a long time this back and forth with a friend, where we kept gifting each other more and more tortured Star Wars fics. So I originally made this a one shot focusing on the horrors of sleep deprivation (from first hand experience…) and how it might break even the kindest of Jedi.

Things snowballed and got out of hand, and it turned into what I think is my best Star Wars story. It's also titled after a line in Cradle Song by William Blake. I am weirdly obsessed with naming fics from his poems. Only him. IDK why.

#3 Never Too Late

Another SW story but on the other end of the spectrum, focusing on H/C. Set right after Episode 1, with Obi-Wan reaching out to Dooku, who hasn't turned to the dark yet. It's my second most kudoed fic ever after the 100k words one, so you know I was cooking and people liked the taste of it.

In general I love writing reluctant father figures, and Dooku - Obi - Anakin, at that time and place, are like the holy trifecta of reluctant daddies lol

#4 For Always

My Elden Ring masterpiece and foray into Monsterfucking. I was very sauced for "pubber" Maliketh the Black Blade, even before I played the game. I owe a lot to my friend Spiced for this one--without them there wouldn't be much fucking in this fic! I just like tragic hee-heem-whimper men and Maliketh is that but also with a broken mind, rags, a raspy voice, and paws large enough to make a doll out of us sooooooooooo…..

The irony is that this story has some of my most purple and stuffy prose, despite how horny I make it out to be. I really enjoyed this writing style.

Would you stay with him, henceforth? Would you cast away your humanity, sacrifice your mortality to give him companionship? Would you twine your fate to his? How you'd laughed, naive little thing, telling him that it was no sacrifice. You hadn't known better then, and he, a god, knew even less. He kissed you and licked at your throat. He felt you shiver and asked once more if you truly wanted this. You wanted him and immortality at his side seemed close enough. So you said yes, and he clamped his jaws down on your throat and killed you—one last time.

The sauce stings my eyes to this day. This is the good shit. I wish I could brainrot on characters like this at will.

#5....

This one is impossible to pin down. I have stories where I'm really proud of the writing. Stories where, like the one above, I still really taste the sauce, and the dynamic really appeals to me. Got plenty like that which would easily fit in 5th place. I could also mention the ones I still have very much on the fire, simmering even if they haven't updated in a while.

Fuck it. I'll go for Chosen.

A one shot I wrote while in Florence, often sitting out on a little balcony… It was such a nice place and such a sweet time… And I packed the story with these (bitter) sweet feelings and tried to explore what would happen with Anakin died killing Grievous, leaving Obi-Wan lost, and Ahsoka fearing nobody will chose to take her on again.

It also has some of my favourite prose ever, in the way I wrote (for the second and better time) the backstory of major blorbo Taron Malicos. Nobody ever cares about this bit but I think it's the best part of the fic LOL

1. Eve and Eve

its an 18+ sci-fi anthology. the first 5 are porn 100%, but i love the last story Eternity 1 & 2: Eve and Eve. Its about two women who volunteer their brains to pilot these two satellites that will catalog all of humanitys records. they live like this for years, and it shows their relationship slowly breaking down because they're so close to one another but so far apart.

2. Goodbye, My Rose Garden

historical drama/romance about a japanese woman who comes to england to show her manuscript to her favorite author. after getting turned away by the publisher everytime she meets an english noblewoman who takes an interest in her writing and offers her a place to stay. Heres the summary blurb: "Alice, a young noblewoman, has a Japanese maid named Hanako working in her household. The two have a fairly typical relationship... until the day Alice begs Hanako to kill her. As Hanako tries to figure out why her mistress would make such a terrible request, she and Alice grow closer until an entirely new feeling begins to blossom between them." It's 3 volumes and really really good.

3. Handsome Girl and Sheltered Girl

cute rom/com type manga about college student romance with gender misunderstandings and fake dating plot. summary blurb: "Ooguma Satomi has never been in a relationship. One day, she fell in love with a handsome younger boy in her class, without knowing that he... is actually a girl." I remember it being really cute and funny.

4. Hello, Melancholic!

i dont think i could not put this on a rec list. Its awesome. Im reading the actual novel(s) right now but ive also read up to the latest manga chapter too. Its really really good! A sci-fi horror drama series that follows Sorawo and Toriko as they travel to this alternate dimension they call the otherside. Toriko is searching for her missing mentor Satsuki and Sorawo is caught up in the mystery of her disappearance and the hole its left in Toriko's heart, while also trying to understand the nature of the otherside.

Btw if any of my yuri enjoyer friends want to add onto this go ahead!!! These are just what ive read recently/could think of right now lol

Omg hai i heard phantom was good in this game !! I've only finished two, sadly, and i feel like i can only somewhat recommend swan lake. It was neat and had a lot of potential, but the ending was somewhat rushed ? I preferred one of the villain's bad endings to his good ending tbh </3

I did buy shadows of london, too, and i hear only good things ab it!! The people keep screaming they want a sequel so it must be good. Everyone also recommends gotham memoirs, but it's not my vibe. Magic lamp and Tang dynasty hunters get rec'd often, and i love the vibe of Magic lamp so far...

My problem is i prefer 100%ing everything before moving on to other stories <3 but i enjoyed swan lake a lot, despite its shortcomings. Marie had very lovely endings for Lafayette and I managed to find Gabrielle's ending!!! They were really cute <3

1. Are you named after anyone? Not someone, but according to my mom, she named me after some daytime soap opera in the 90s called "Savannah". I've legit tried to research this show and I can never find anything so I take it with a grain of salt. My nickname tho, Nilla, came not from Nilla Wafers but an old friend of mine calling me by my last name and shortening it over time to where it just became Nilla.

2. When was the last time you cried? Lmao last week actually, homie and I were watching Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and I kinda got sappy over the ending

3. Do you have kids? No, unless you count my sweet leopard gecko, then yes. She's my sassy daughter.

4. What sports do you play/have you played? I played community rec league softball when I was just getting in middle school and enjoyed it for a bit, but ultimately left it to play American football throughout middle school and my freshman year of high school. I ended up getting chronically ill and couldn't keep up with the physical demand but went back for one last year of softball in my sophomore year before realizing "oh my god I SUCK at sports". (Still love watching them tho!)

5. Do you use sarcasm? I used to HEAVILY. I think I still use it around people I know and trust but I find myself not using it as much or ill intentionally dramatize the tone to make sure people don't know I'm serious.

6. What's the first thing you notice about someone? Thinking about, I think their hair actually! What color is it, what shape and length is it? Is it flat?? Frizzy?? Curly?? You can tell a lot about a person about their hair.
