i saw your dr stone senku oneshot about senku realizing hes inlove and just wanna say i LOVEDDD IT, so i was wondering if i could request a similar thing to that but with kusuo (i dont rlly mind if its a headcannon or oneshot or whatever, anything works!) with like aren or mikoto randomly pointing out that kusuo looks like he likes the reader LMFAOO
hi there! thank you very much for your request! i'm glad you liked my dr stone oneshot!
i tried to mimic the straightforward, fast-pace, absurdness(?) of the show- i hope i did it justice ;,)
warnings: none!
wc: 1.9k
Kusuo, as much as he tries not to, cannot help attracting people into his life. He does his best to avoid socializing and standing out by minding his own business, hoping others will do the same.Â
But instead (and seemingly without doing anything), heâs acquired a large group of friends who greatly admire and care for him. Itâs undeniable that they could be troublesome, but he still goes the extra mile for them and even those he doesnât know well. You were in Kusuoâs class and lived in his area, so he often saw you in and out of school, and just like the rest of his friends, you managed to meddle your way into his life. Youâve repeatedly witnessed his kindness and compassion, and each time youâve confronted him, heâd brush it off and chalk it up as an interference to his peace.
Kusuo was pretty bland to you besides his funky accessories and bright pink hair, but you found he was an easy person to talk to, mostly because (and sadly enough, depending on perspective) the conversations you had with him were pretty one sided. You didnât think much of Kusuoâs quietness, and took him to be a good listener instead of someone who was disinterested in what you had to say.Â
Over time however, whatever irritation Kusuo originally had with you faded as you familiarized yourselves with one another. He found himself hanging out with you and contributing more to your conversations (telepathically, of course) out of his own volition. If he wasnât forced to hang out with Kaido and Nendou, and maybe sometimes Aren, he was usually spending time with you. He seemed to tolerate you more than anyone else in his life because of your patient understanding nature. You were non-invasive, never forcing Kusuo to do anything he didnât want to, and covered for him whenever he was confronted by others so as to avoid further attention. For your kindness, heâs subconsciously given you his time and attention and is a little more lenient with allowing you into his life.Â
Saiki discovered with time that the two of you actually share a lot of common interests, such as a love for video games and manga. On top of that, he also greatly respected your determination, hard work, and open mindedness.Â
âWhy does Y/N get toâŚ?!â his other friends would groan out or shriek in irritation when he enabled you over them, to which heâd deadpan, âbecause theyâre not insufferable like the rest of you.âÂ
Even though you two have always been strictly friends, Kusuo just cannot help getting himself into tricky situations as well, and so no matter how hard he tries to make it seem like the opposite, somehow people are always getting the wrong idea when the two of you are together.Â
Itâs hard to tell who exactly was the first in Saikiâs friend group to suspect anything, but his friends all at once slowly started acting unnatural when the two of you hung around together or talked about each other.
The people who addressed the elephant in the room first were Toritsuka and Mikoto.Â
Saiki and the two were dealing with a dangerous situation, which was surprisingly and maybe even alarmingly normal considering the nature of Saikiâs friends (being psychics and all), when you suddenly approached him in the midst of their chaos.
You called a greeting toward him and his friends and then started rambling about your day, completely oblivious to the danger the group was trying to tame. You brought up a low grade you got, an annoying teacher, and then asked Saiki if he wanted to go out to a cafe after school.Â
But Saiki suddenly grabbed your shoulders and looked you firmly in the eyes, catching you and the other two psychics off guard, because they stopped whatever panicking they were doing to watch.Â
A beat of silence. âSaiki?â âIâll meet up with you at the cafe, alright? Iâll even treat you, just get out of here.â
And youâre confused on why he sounds so serious and urgent, on why his grip on you is so firm, but youâre patient, and so all you do is stare at him with a small frown and go âokay.â
You said your goodbyes and headed off with the group watching you do a double take before disappearing behind a corner.
And Kusuo immediately regrets holding onto you when he turns around to the stunned looks on his friendsâ faces, who, after a moment of processing the sight, are in his face.Â
âI knew it! I knew the two of you were dating! You donât have a heart of stone after all!â âI wish you wouldâve told us, Kusuo! Theyâre cute, too!â
Heâs insanely annoyed by this, obviously, and immediately shuts down the mistranslation. âQuiet! Iâm not dating anyone and stay out of my business. We have to continueâŚâ
But from there, the situation only worsened. Everyone was thinking it, everyone was feeling it. It was only a matter of who was finally going to say something about it. And of course, Saiki knew everyone was thinking it, but he truly didnât think it would escalate into something intrusive.Â
And after the psykickers, seemingly everyone decided to speak up about it.Â
You were talking to Saiki before class began, and when you were invited over to talk to another friend, Kaidou and Aren appeared by the esperâs desk. âIs it true?! Are you and L/N dating?!â
âNo. Get out of my face.â
âI didnât really see it at first,â Aren thought out loud to himself, ignoring his wish. âL/Nâs pretty friendly with everyone, but the two of you oddly enough make sense. You look good together!â
Saiki stared exasperatedly. Saiki respected Aren for being one of the more level headed members of his friend group, but even he was on about this?
âWhat are you talking about Kuboyasu? My palâs irresistible!â And now Nendou was joining the conversation, approaching Kusuoâs desk with his hands in his pockets. âCongrats buddy! Theyâre a real cutie!â
âHey! What are you gents talking about?â Hairoâs voice boomed out. Him too? Why was everyone so interested in the conversation?Â
âSaiki and L/N,â Kaido answered as Hairo joined the semi-circle formed around Saikiâs desk. Hairo's face lit up, immediately catching on just from the mention of your names. âOoh! So itâs true, huh? I always suspected something! Iâm happy for you both!â
âEnough! Iâm not dating L/N! Where are you all getting this stupid impression from?â
âWhat are you talking about?! You two always come in a pair!â Kaido cried out in defense and stared at his friend incredulously.Â
âYeah, everywhere you go, L/N isnât far behind. You canât find one without the other.â Aren added almost hesitantly as Saiki stared with his mouth forming a small âoâ shape.
This came as a surprise to him. He was always so keen on living a ânormalâ and peaceful life, finding others a threat to this aspiration and doing his best to block them out because of it. He didnât socialize or attempt to make friends, but apparently he could live his ânormalâ life with you in it. You casually followed him-- and him you-- and he found comfort in and outside of your ânormalcyâ-- your presence, your everyday tasks and conversation; even your uniqueness. You became a part of his normal at some point, his peace.
When did that happen?Â
âYou bring them everywhere with you, dude. I think L/Nâs the only person who can get you to come out of your shell a little.â Hairo commented with a short laugh and scrunched brows as he thought aloud.
Saiki admits that heâs more willing to try new things or do something he initially didnât want to if youâre there with him. He trusts you, and so if youâre involved, he supposes he doesnât mind getting involved either. Sometimes when he asked about the two of you constantly tag teaming, heâll say something like âthey wanted to come alongâ or âY/N convinced me to goâ and Kusuo himself is a little surprised that he never realized how that looked and sounded like to his friends, who knew him to be pretty reserved and introverted.Â
âOooh! Are we talking about Saiki and L/N?â Oh no. NotâŚ
âTeruhashi!âÂ
âSorry to interrupt the conversation, but I couldnât help but overhear you boys talking about L/N! Theyâre always telling me about you Saiki! Itâs so nice how you do so much for them!â
Does he really do a lot for you? Yes, yes he does, and Teruhashi has heard it all. You donât talk about it excessively or ever make it seem like a brag, but it slips up so casually in conversation that even Kokomi, with all her admirers, finds it endearing how natural Saikiâs urge to take care of you is.Â
Trouble at work? Saikiâs on the job. Heâll get your annoying manager to stop bugging you or help you clear out the place faster after a long day. An item you casually mentioned you wanted? Knowing Saiki, he probably goes through hell and back trying to get it for you, but even so he never spends too much time indulging you in the details of how he obtained it. A classmate giving you a hard time? Saikiâs loyalty is more evident than ever. Even Teruhashi is taken aback when you share your experiences with him.Â
âIâm so jealous! I wish I had someone like that!â Chiyo groaned out from behind the group as Kokomi and Hairo made space for her to join the discussion.Â
With so many of his friends taking notice of these things, Kusuo is forced to acknowledge and reflect on them in that moment, especially when theyâre suggesting something beyond friendship.Â
He consistently swoops in to save you from bad situations, even when you insist that you can handle yourself. And Saiki knows you can, he doesnât always doubt you, but he tries to make it seem that way or as if you were an inconvenience. In reality, Saiki never exactly knew what urged him to help you out so much. With his other friends, everything he did felt like a one sided favor. But with you, it was something more. He was okay with taking care of you.Â
And he canât help but smile when he sees how excited you are about something. Saikiâs cold demeanor sticks most of the time, but itâs typically in private or away from his friendsâ prying eyes that Saikiâs shoulder relax a little and he lets himself enjoy your presence. With his responsibilities and burdens as a psychic, romance was absolutely off the table.Â
But maybeâŚ
âHey everyone! What are we talking about?â
Both the conversation and Saikiâs daydreams immediately halt as everyone turns toward the sound of your voice. You slowly approach the group with a smile on your face. âTalking about that test?â
Even Kusuo is staring dumbly at you, but before anyone could open their mouths to answer, the bell rang, signaling the beginning of class.Â
As the teacher called everyone to return to their seats and the group broke apart, Saiki briefly looked down and then toward you in the seat across from him, watching you unpack your supplies.Â
Good grief. His troublesome friends really got to him.Â
BONUS:Â
âImeanitssoobviousyouhaveathingforY/Nwiththewayyouâreconstantlytogetherhowcouldanyonenottellfromthewayyouârealwaysprotectingthemtoalwayshangingaroundoneanotherthoughitâsdefinitelyanoddpairingbutonethatyoutwoseemtomakeworkitâsalmostlikeaclincheinaromancefilm!â
Translation: âI mean, itâs so obvious you have a thing for Y/N with the way youâre constantly together. How could anyone not tell from the way youâre always protecting them to always hanging around one another, though itâs definitely an odd pairing but one you two seem to make work. Itâs almost like a cliche in a romance film!â
(Akechi cornered Saiki in the hallway right after class.)

âto think such an honourable knight such as you, the cavalry captain of mondstat, is now begging to cum. how shameful of you,â you let out a low chuckle as a provocative smile broke out on your lips, âi wonder what citizens would say if they saw their beloved and oh so admirable kaeya in this position?â
as a captain of the ordo favonius, you were a bright figure to the people of mondstat. a person who aided in saving the city from destruction, one of the heroes that defeated storm terror. of course, other knights had nothing but respect for you as your skill and talent was nothing short of impressive. many looked at you with a high regard due to your strength and position, this meant that many were intimidated by your presence and therefore fear approaching you.
however, there was one person who disregarded this and stuck by you anyways, kaeya alberich, the cavalry captain. out of everyone in the knights of favonius, you were the closest with kaeya. you enjoyed his company a lot, he was an interesting person who knew how to keep a conversation going, and while you're with him you could never find yourself feeling bored. he was as charming as he was cunning.
kaeya found himself enjoying your company too. the two of you have done lots of things together. going on missions, getting away with âknightyâ duty, babysitting klee, and drinking at angels share. you know, all the fun things in life.
kaeya was a secretive person, and while you were curious about him, you respected his boundaries. perhaps this was the reason why he drew you in, besides his blaringly good looks of course.
there was no doubt that the man was attractive from head to toe. his silky navy blue hair fell down his shoulder with grace, his fringe complemented his smooth, flawless sepia toned face. his periwinkle eye held the sheen of a crystal, glistening as his long eyelashes framed it with poise. the diamond shaped pupils his eyes possessed could leave you in a trance forever. his open white shirt left his cleavage on display, contrasted with the black corset around his slim, slim waist. his slender legs brought him around with confidence and charisma.additionally, the intricate accessories he wore suited his personality well. all in all, kaeya was a pretty little thing.
all of this lead up to you harbouring romantic feelings for the cavalry caption. how could you not feel anything? he was perfect in every way.
the sound of kaeyaâs voice snapped you out of your thinking. ây/n, any missions today?â
ânothing for you i donât think, i gotta help jean with the paperworks though.â you sighed at the thought of a mountain of paperwork.
âgreat, well iâm off then you have fun doing whatever.â kaeya smirked at you, poking fun at your dread.
he started to turn around and walk off but you had other plans.
âwait. kaeya-â you speak quickly.
âhm?â he hummed out.
âangels share? 9pm?â
a quizzical look washed over his face before he masked it with one of his cunning smiles.
âalright.â
little did kaeya know you had more in mind than just drinking with him tonight. today would be the day when you finally told him about your little crush on him.
night quickly arrived after a day of working with jean. you were pretty exhausted but still excited about what's about to happen later tonight. when you entered the bar, Kaeya was already waiting for you at the counter talking with the bartender, charles.
âah, i see mr.l/n is here too. Your usual today as well sir?â
âyah thatâd be nice, thanks charles.â you said as you took a seat next to kaeya
âyou got it.â charles said as he left to go get your drink.
angel's share was the place you and kaeya loved the most. the kind of noisy background with people chatting. cyrus and jack talking about their gains for today, six-fingered jose still playing his lyre, the song was getting a little old but you didnât mind, in fact if he changed the song you probably wouldnât be used to it.
âso, whatâs the special occasion for today? you usually donât invite me to drink on weekdays.â kaeya said while swirling his drink and glancing over at you.
kaeyaâs eyes always amazed you. you didnât know the name of the grey-ish color but you could gaze into them forever. his smooth skin glowed under the dim lighting in the bar. you loved everything about the man, his dark blue hair, his perfectly shaped body, and the fact that you could see a little bit of his clothing. what kaeya said on the first day when you guys met was true, you did feel something for him.
âhm? can i not invite fellow knights to share a drink once in while without a special occasion.â
âwell, not wrong there butâŚyou seem like you have ulterior motives for tonight from the way youâre dressing.â kaeya said, smirking at you.
it was true, you purposely chose one of your best outfits today for kaeya, you wanted to impress the man not only from your combat skills, but also your looks. there was no secret you could hide from kaeya. he knew you too well and he always looked right through you. it could have just been kaeyaâs observant nature but you like to hope it was something more than that.
âyouâre right there, you really do know me too well, maybe i need to start hiding things from you a little huh?â
âyou can try but i highly doubt itâll work in your favour, mr.honorary knight.â
both of you looked at each other with a slight smirk as charles arrived with your drink. after drinking for a good while you could tell kaeya was getting a little tipsy. his movements were unstable, he shaked a little while walking and his eyes started to become hazy. what better time than right now to reveal your true plans for tonight, you were gonna fuck the shit out of the beautiful man. you wanted to hear him scream your name in pleasure as you break him, over and over again.
âwhy donât we go somewhere else? yâknow, somewhere more, quietâ you suggested while scooting closer to kaeya.
âi wouldnât mind that.â
as soon as you heard those words you immediately got up and left with kaeya. your plan was going perfectly and the best part is about to come soon. kaeya wasnât stupid, he was an adult afterall and he knew what you were trying to do. dressing up all sexy like that, getting drinks, going somewhere more âprivateâ, what else could it have been.
the two of you arrived in your house and headed straight for your bedroom. kaeya has been to your house many times for many reasons and he knew where everything was so he didnât trip or fall.
you placed a light kiss on kaeyaâs lips while he laid on your bed.
âwait here~ iâll be right back.â
this was where things would get, interesting
you opened your fridge to grab a small wooden bowl. the content inside was covered by a small white cloth. after grabbing that you went to grab some rope from a drawer you hid them in because you didnât know what to say if someone saw those items in your house.
after bringing the items back you put them on the side and pushed kaeya down.
âwhatâre those?â he asked
(its a surprise tool thatâll help us later.)
âdonât worry about it sweetheart, just lay back and let me do the work alright?â
you brought a blush to kaeyaâs face with your flirty words as he gave you a small nod, signalling you consent and approval. you kept invading kaeyaâs mouth over and over again, youâre tongue so skillful kaeya was sure this definitely wasnât your first time. the kisses ended after a while leaving both of you panting and a half an erection in your pants. wanting more, you began to take off kaeyaâs uniform. his skin is so beautiful, you could also see his well defined body, just the perfect amount, not too buff, not too skinny. you licked your lips a little bit and looked up at kaeya with a smirk. when you put your mouth onto kaeyaâs pink nipples, he squealed a little out of surprise but soft moans soon began to escape from his mouth.
âa-ah~ didnât know you had this in you, honorary knight.â
âoh i know a lot more tricks that can make you feel good~â you teased.
as you continued to suck on kaeyaâs smooth skin, you decided to spice things up a little bit. kaeya yelped as he felt a slight pain around his nipples. you remove your mouth to see a bite mark around it.
âto mark you as mine~â
âtch, you cocky little bastard.â
seeing the tent building up in kaeyaâs pants, you decided to take them off and grant it some release. after you took off kaeyaâs jeans you saw a small stain at the top of his boxers, showing that he felt good earlier.
âalright... this is where the fun part begins.â you said as you grabbed the ropes you initially put on the floor.
ârestraining me? go ahead, letâs see if the honorary knight is all talk or he actually has something up his sleeve.â kaeya taunted
not liking his attitude, you forcefully tied kaeyaâs hands behind his back and pushed him to the end of the bed facing you with nothing on but his boxers. now, the mighty kaeya alberich, is at your mercy.
âalright, we can do this in two ways. one, you listen to me, second, i donât think youâll like whatâll happen,â
kaeya raised his head a little and looked you dead in the eyes.
âi choose the second optionâ
you knew kaeya was the bratty type and itâll only add to the fun to tame him. after hearing his choice you pushed kaeya back to where he was before and uncovered the bowl you had prepared earlier on the side. the bow was filled with medium sized ice cubes and it was till now that kaeya finally realized what you were trying to do.
âice cubes huh? bring it on.â
âyou asked for it~â
you grabbed one of the ice cubes and started to rub it on kaeyaâs pecs, making circular motions and slowing moving towards the center where his nipples are.
âf-fuck thatâs cold.â
you saw kaeyaâs cock twitch a little when you first reached his nipples and you knew he was feeling good. moving on with your plan, you rested the ice cube on kaeyaâs nipples and lifted his boxers where his cock is still covered but his asshole is exposed to you. right after that, you grabbed the lube that has been sitting in your nightstand and spread them on your fingers. without mercy you put 2 fingers into kaeya, trying to find his pleasure spot. sooner or later when kaeya started to let out tiny moans you knew you hit your target.
âfeels good huh baby boy~â
ây-yah, and so what o-oh fuck~â
kaeya was sure feeling it, to a point where he started stuttering.
the constant teasing got kaeya close to his limit. he couldnât hold it any longer. but youâre not gonna let him cum that easy are you? of course not, he needed to be punished for what he did earlier.
âa-ah y/n iâm gonna cum iâm gonna cum so hard- wait why'd you s-stop?â kaeya asked
âyou decided to be a brat earlier didnât you~? bad boys get punishment.â you said with a smirk on your face.
kaeya stayed silent, not a word coming out of his mouth, head hung low feeling embarrassed.
âto think such an honourable knight such as you, the cavalry captain of mondstat, is now begging to cum. how shameful of you,â you let out a low chuckle as a provocative smile broke out on your lips, âi wonder what citizens would say if they saw their beloved and oh so admirable kaeya in this position?â
âmaybe~ if you begged a little i might reconsider, donât you think so, pretty boy?â
kaeya finally lost his composure at this point, all he wanted was to cum from your touch.
âfine... i donât care anymore.â kaeya growled.
âp-please y/n.â kaeya looked up at you with pleading eyes. âi want to c-cum, i want to cum so bad. i shouldâve been a good boy from the beginning⌠i promise iâll be obedient from now on, j-just please, let me cumâŚâ kaeya begged
âthatâs what i thought.â
satisfied with kaeyaâs begging, you decided to grant him his release. you added another ice cube to the other side of kaeyaâs chest while stroking his dick through his boxers. of course you didnât forget to keep teasing kaeyaâs prostate while you were at it. all these different stimulations made kaeya lose his mind. the male came through his boxers all over the place. semen spilled on his own stomach and chest followed with moans so loud the entire mondstat could hear him.
after he settled himself down a little, kaeya waited for you to untie him. you exchanged a kiss with him while you were doing so, smiling at each other thinking about what just happened. neither of you cared about the mess that you made because you guys were tired. listening to the birds chirp, you fell asleep with the dark blue haired male on your bed.
the two of you woke up in the afternoon to the noises of mondstat. you woke up a little before kaeya and from your point of view he was literally a sleeping beauty. you stroked his hair a little bit, causing him to wake up.
"y/nâŚgood morning handsome."
"right back at you."
both of you giggled a little while holding hands.
"hey kaeya?"
"yes y/n."
"i've been meaning to get this off my chest and i don't think there will be a better time to say it than now."
"well go ahead, i'm all ears."
"you were the only one that ever stuck with me in the knights, everyone was afraid of me due to my strength except for you. you listened to me, you talked to me, and if it weren't for you i probably would've quit the job at the knights already." you took a deep breath and let out the words kaeya were waiting for.
"kaeya alberich... will you he my boyfriend?"
kaeya gave you a small scoff as a reaction and a light kiss to your lips.
"what reason do i have to refuse such a perfect man?."

ââ.âŽ:âš seonghwa
you were on the subway with seonghwa after a long day doing whatever couples do and you were just, plain exhausted. seated right next to your lover, and with his broad shoulders poking into your 'territory', you had two choices in your mind.
do you want to lay your head on his shoulder, or do you want to chomp on it? unfortunately for seonghwa, you find resting your head on shoulders rather uncomfortable. so, without a care in the world for the other commuters around, you leaned down and caught the edge of your lover's shoulder with your mouth, causing him to jump a little in his seat, his attention now drawn away from his phone.
"what are you doing?" seonghwa didn't mean it in a hostile way, he was just surprised, and very rightfully so.
"im tired," you answered with a slight giggle. this made the boy furrow his eyebrows in confusion, which only caused you to giggle even harder, turning some heads in your direction.
"are you trying to eat my shoulder to gain some energy then?" seonghwa laughed, finding your actions rather adorable.
you shook your head. "no, im asking for some attention so i don't fall asleep right now." seonghwa rolled his eyes playfully at your reply, knowing just exactly what you meant, and went in for a peck on your lips. he would stay there for a little longer but it would be rather rude for the people witnessing it.
"now, that should keep you awake."

ââ.âŽ:âš hongjoong
hongjoong's always busy. if he's not in the practice room dancing to the same few tunes up to ten hours at a time nearing comeback week, then he would be in his studio pressing on the many buttons that even after months you still can not tell apart its functions. if even that was not it, he was in his dorms, cooped up in his room, either playing around with some old clothes at the corner of his closet or reading a new book he had picked up at the bookstore down the street of where he gets 45% of his fashion accessories from.
"so when do you have time for me?" you asked with a pout, rather upset that even after inviting you to hang out in his studio he was still caught up with work.
"just five more minutes, i promise," hongjoong said, cupping your face with both of his hands, the cold metal rings adorning his slender fingers almost causing you to shake him off.
"you said that five minutes ago." you shot a glare at him before turning your head slightly to the side, and without warning, bit gently on the fleshy part of his right palm.
his eyes opened wide at you, that was the last thing he would ever expect anyone to do. "babe, what..." he tried to pull his hand out but you refused to let go, not until you heard what you wanted to hear.
"okay, okay, im sorry. ill stop work now," hongjoong finally relented. your bite wasn't painful but he would rather you not. he sighed as he saved his work and got off his chair, extending out his hand to help you off the couch.
"next time i want something, im using that back on you."

ââ.âŽ:âš yunho
you and yunho have a movie night together once every two weeks, regardless of what the both of you actually get down to that night, the movie night will always happen. usually, yunho would grab a few snacks and drinks from the convenience store just right below the company but he had completely forgotten that it was movie night until he was already on the way back to his dorms. so not only was he late to arrive at your place, he also came empty handed.
"im hungry," you whined, your stomach growling. you couldn't focus on the movie like that, but you didn't have any food at home and the nearest convenience store wasn't really at a convenient distance.
"im sorry about that, let's get food delivered." yunho was quick, his food delivery app already opened, the wide array of choices displayed on the screen.
"i might just pass out from hunger by the time the food arrives," you sighed, laying your head on his abdomen. it was currently the peak hour for food delivery.
yunho was just about to pat your head lovingly when you went ahead and bit down on his lean abs, surprising yunho so much so that he pushed on your forehead so that you were now staring at him in his eyes. "do that again and you might pass out from something else."

ââ.âŽ:âš yeosang
yeosang was scrolling through twitter while you were on tiktok, watching videos after videos of horror tiktoks. you can't say that you aren't deathly afraid of them, but you're always too intrigued to not watch them. yeosang, on the other hand, would just prefer seeing what his fans were up to. but being as sweet as he is, he offers you a hand to hold as emotional support. said hand went from simply being held, to getting squeezed, then pulled, dug in with your fingers, all as they slowly travelled up to your chin. he doesn't mind, after all, he likes it when you fiddle around with his hands.
but what he didn't expect at all, was for you to bite on his fingers. it was definitely a mistake on your part, you had meant to bite on your own fingers but forgot that you were holding his hand. yeosang yelped out in pain, quickly pulling his hand away from you, who was looking at him quite guiltily.
"oh my god, im so sor-"
"oh my god." yeosang stared down at his phone screen, eyes even wider than when you had bit him as his pupils dart around, unsure of what to do now.
"what's wrong?"
"i liked a fan's tweet by accident...." this was exactly why you had told yeosang to stop using the official ateez account.
"quick, unlike it!" you told him as you burst into laughter at his carelessness.
"hey! it's your fault, you don't get to laugh!"

ââ.âŽ:âš san
with his hair being too long to be let down comfortably, san has started to tie it up into a little ponytail whenever he can. you find it adorable, there really was a reason why people call it the 'apple hair'. everytime you walk past him when his hair is up, you can't help but to smack the ponytail. you have done it so many times that san has absolutely no reaction to it anymore, just letting you do as you please.
however, while walking pass him today, you felt this urge to bite, not the hair, but his head. don't ask questions, it happens. you hesitated for a moment, wondering if you should just do the usual and then leave. but once you saw how his little ponytail shook, you couldn't stop yourself. you leaned down and bit on him softly.
now, that, that gave san the shock of his life. he whipped his head around and gave you a questioning look. it didn't hurt, but..."why did you do that?" it made you giggle.
"nothing, i just wanted to." you shrugged your shoulders before patting him gently at the spot you had bit him. right as you were about to leave, he gripped onto your wrist and pulled you back.
"you bend down," he ordered, his other arm holding onto the chair as he twists his body towards the back.
"w-what?" but you bend down anyways, only to feel a bite on your head as well.
"i wanted to as well," san said as he broke into a smile, the corners of his eyes lifting up to resemble a cat eye eyeliner. "nyam."

ââ.âŽ:âš mingi
"hey, would you scrub my back for me?" mingi asked rather shyly, handing you the body scrub without turning back too much.
"yea of course." the two of you were too close to even be shy over something like that, but leave it up to your soft-hearted giant to feel so.
once you were done helping him, you passed the body scrub back to mingi so that he could place it on the shower rack, pressing your chest onto his back. "you smell so good," you told him, burrowing your nose into his neck as your arms wrapped around his waist.
"good news is, you smell the same," mingi chuckled, his hand going up to caress your face as he tilts his head to rest it on yours.
"i wanna see you."
"nope."
well, if he doesn't want to turn around, you will make him. with that, you gave him a quick bite on his shoulder, one that wasn't too hard but enough to leave a slight impression on his skin. it made him yelp out in pain, and more importantly, whip his head around to see what you were up to. then, you swooped in and landed a wet kiss on his plump lips. you merely saw the opportunity and took it, he can't blame you for that.
"i-" he was at a loss for words and that made you giggle, the giggles becoming louder the more he struggled to form sentences.
"oh no, you're going to get it from me, babe."

ââ.âŽ:âš wooyoung
you have been eyeing him since this morning, and if you think he hasn't noticed, then you're the stupid one here. wooyoung also knows exactly why you were staring at him like a predator to its prey. he was wearing a tank top, his biceps on full display. it has become a more common sight in their recent stages but he never wears them around you, whatever his reason was.
"you want to touch it, don't you?" he said in a teasing tone as he flexed his arm muscles right in front of your eyes. it took every ounce of energy in you to not nod, not wanting to give in to him that easily. he would never stop teasing you. "you're acting indifferent but you looked so, should i say, hungry, the whole day."
"i have better things to do than to stare at you." you turned away from him and his muscular arms. it was the best thing to do right now, for both his and your sake.
"better things as in, imagining how it would feel, i bet."
"jung wooyoung,"
"hm?"
"bring your arm closer."
"see, i knew it." no he didn't, because he almost sent a punch to your face when you chomped down on his biceps. and he probably would have if you weren't looking at him with such innocent eyes.
"that's what you wanted to do?" wooyoung asked in disbelief. he had totally underestimated you and your, 'thirst'.
"okay, pay back time. give me your arm."
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4cc41fb46e9bbd2ffc80166225cc522a/ca958d7998099684-d7/s500x750/3243a655d6e5cdbb5cc58e665201f1315af9847c.jpg)
ââ.âŽ:âš jongho
"are you busy right now?" you asked as you entered his room, not knocking since the door was already wide open.
"not really, just doing some online shopping," he replied, his eyes still not leaving his screen. he has been stuck in his seat for a few hours already. you shook your head, not knowing how he could even shop for so long. "do you want to get something too?"
"no. and that's lame-" you dragged his chair away from his desk-"come do something fun with me." jongho narrowed his eyes at you, your definition of fun was not the same as his. you tend to have some bizarre ideas on how to entertain yourself. but he couldn't refuse you, besides he probably should get out of his seat by now.
"what do you need me for?"
"just stand back facing me," you directed before you went on to explain. "so i was watching some zombie apocalyptic movies, right?" jongho already had a bad feeling about this but he won't even try to question it. "we have similar pain tolerance, correct?" he nodded. "okay good, i just want to know how painful my death would be in a zombie apocalypse."
jongho really wanted to put you on pause and question just what was going through your head at the moment but you were too fast, already biting down on his shoulders, more specifically his trapezius muscles. it hurts, and it hurts bad. you did not show mercy at all, it was as if you had turned into a blood hungry zombie yourself.
"what the f-" he held himself back from spitting vulgarities out at you. because he has a much better plan on how to get back at you.
"i want to try something out as well...." oh no, you better run for your life.

Mr. Genova: Instructions for Use
Hello there! I recently got to re-read Hetaliaâs story about Napoleon in occasion of a trip in Corsica, and suddently remembered this adorable little guy. While there are a lot of wonderful people that took the mantle and tried to give character and story to what are actually just 2 sketches from 3y ago, I also noticed some disappointment (understandable) andâŚ. misinformation from lack of context and historical knowledge about the topic. I know that seeing the 4th italian brother when maybe your country isnât in yet can be frustrating, but trust me when I say that Genova is a very important character for many of the events that occurred between the middle-ages and WWII (does Colombo ring a bell?).
With that said letâs try to discover together who actually was is Mr.Genova!
Why Genova and not Genoa? Genova is the correct italian name of the republic/city while Genoa is it's english version and, incidentally, the name of Genova's most renowed football team. So just like for Venezia and Roma we'll keep the original pronunciation.
In this first part weâll talk about Genova design
[Original sketch by Hima, I just polished and colored it to better convey my ideas about his design.]
Iâve heard people complaining that âhe just seems like a fusion of Romano and Franceâ, funnily enough not only the comparison is quite on point, but itâs coherent with Genovaâs history and probably intentional on Himaâs side.
To understand what I mean letâs look at a little map of modern Italy
We can immediatly notice some things ->
1) Liguria (the name given to Genovaâs historical territories after the city became âcapoluogo di regioneâ in 1948) borders with France and Monaco. For all itâs life Genova had to fend against France and would often end under itâs dominion for brief periods; at the same time their vicinity favored a similar culture and language (with one BIG exeption we'll see another time): Monaco and Corsica, previously territories of Genova, retain a great resemblance with Ligurian when speaking their actual language, aka Corso and Monegasco. At the same time Ligurian presents some elements common in french that are actually absent in standard italian.
2) Genova is situated in front of the Ligurian sea and has open access to all of west-Mediterraneum, becoming the most important harbor in north-west Italy since it gained his autonomy from the HRE around 1096 A.D. Due to Liguria peculiar geografical conformation (no plains and the Alps-Appenines isolating Genova from the rest of north Italy, favoring a climatic bubble that makes the region a greener version of the south) our republic decided to limit it's expansion towards northen countries and instead focus on the Mediterraneum sea, becoming Spain and by proxy South Italy best commercial/political buddy till (almost) the end of itâs indipendent life.
3bonus) Yes guys Seborga is a little town in the Ligurian hinterland and was part of the Genovese republic. While Seborga's story is really interesting (might do a focus in the future) the general history and culture of the 2 is the same.
NOTE: every time I use the term âItalyâ during any period pre 1861 consider it only as the geographical meaning of the peninsula (Italy as a country wasn't a thing till then).
PALETTE AND DESIGN
With this introduction in mind it makes sense for little Genova to have his hair styled similar to France and a darker shade compared to Veneziano. While the dark gray used by Hima could hint at both black and dark brown, the latter is by far the most common color in Liguria so I decided to go with that.
His eyes are anybodyâs game to be fair, but I decided to be as faithful as possible to the average ligurian so, just like Feli and Lovi when Hima decides that his eyes arenât olive anymore, brown/light brown is the most common color in Italy (+ we already have Seborga as the random flashy neighbouring brother).
To end our palette the skin tone could be an in between: probably darker that a Northener but lighter than a Southener (no mayor arabic nor germanic influences here)
CLOTHES AND ACCESSORIES
clothes -> nothing too important to say, the clothes are fit for the XVIII sec., they shows Genovaâs status as a wealthy commercial republic and unofficial bank of Europe (yup, before Switzerland Genova had that role and itâs banks are considered the oldest in Europe). As long as the colors used arenât too flashy everything is fine.
crown thingy(?) -> now this is where things become interesting. There are 3 possible options I could think as of why Genova, of all the possible accessories, has a crown when it wasnât even a monarchy. Pick what you prefer or feel free to add your personal interpretation if you want.
1) money and superbia: as written before, during it's prime Genova was a wealthy republic, lending money to half of Europe and being the indiscussed queen of west-Mediterraneum (ofc Venezia was the queen of east-Mediterraneum, but thatâs another story for another post). The city even got the nickname âSuperbaâ to enanche the grandiosity and way too much pride of itâs people. A crown would be a fitting choice for someone who is probably a bit narcisist.
2) city status: in ancient paintings the personifications of countries and cities were made recognizable by the presence of a little crown on their head. Adding to that, in Italy to be a full fledged town or city you must receive a crown symbol to put on your emblem, maybe Hima is hinting at Genova actual predicament.
3) the Lanterna: Iâll admit the first thing I tought while looking at Genova was âthat looks like a little towerâ. A bit strange, but actually not farfetched; if you have ever visited Genova youâll know what I mean when I say this city has a lot, and I say A LOT of towers positioned trough the historical center. The reason? To protect themselves from the French/Ottomans/eventual pirates, in the XVI sec. Genova decided to build a massive system of walls and towers that surrounded the city. There is also a specific tower that is considered the symbol of Genova itself âla Lanternaâ. The Lanterna is the oldest Lighthouse still in function trough Europe; maybe if you glance at its modern look it doesnât scream âtowerâ, but before it was semi-destroyed by the French army in 1513 A.D. Lanterna beared a striking resemblance to what Mr.Genova is wearing.
âMUGUGNO LIBEROâ
Last but not least, the infamous pout that gave Genova the label of âRomano 2.0â. Itâs not random, itâs not wrong, itâs such a toughtful and unexpected touch that Hima would be declared honored guest by any Genovese (and made me personally laugh like an idiot for an hour).
What Genova is doing here has a specific term in the local language, mugugnare!
What is âmugugnareâ? Mugugnare is a peculiar way of complaining and rambling specific of the Ligurians. This act is soo ingraned into the culture of the region that itâs considered an art and will take a good part of any conversation youâll have with a local.
Iâll be more specific when weâll touch Genova possible characterization, just you know that where Romano is loud, pretty offensive and direct the mugugno is more subtle and passive-aggressive. It can and WILL BE directed at anything, from the weather to jobs to Venezia and the rest of the north.
This finally brings us in what defines most of the characters of Hetalia, the wonderful land of stereotypes.
See you in the next part where weâll talk about the temperament and culture of what is often considered the âblack sheepâ of north Italy!

Inukag Royalty AU
âI see that,â the King chuckled, gathering the child into his arms. He looked at Kagome. âAnd who have you brought Rin?â
While Rin was all happy smiles, Kagome immediately went on edge. Of all the people to see first, the King himself! She was not prepared whatsoever to meet the Inutaisho, but she bit down and hid her rising anxiety, pulling on all those years of putting on a false expression to get through important meetings. All she had to do was get through this encounter. Bring the girl home safely, go through some pleasantries, and be on her way.
âShe found me in the market when I got lost. Can we keep her papa?â
Kagomeâs heart stopped. âWait what?!â Did Rin just say what she thought sheâd said?!
Again, the male laughed. âWell, weâll have to see.â
âPapa, she can be my new attendant. Please! Sheâs so much nicer than the other one.â
âOh?â The man turned back to Kagome. âThank you for assisting my granddaughter, miss?â
Thinking quickly. âKagome Tanaka,â she bowed. âAnd the pleasure was mine. The Princess was a joy to talk to.â
âMiss Tanaka, are you from around here?â
âIâm from a small village on the outskirts of the kingdom.â
âHer mom and dad are dead like mine, so she needs a new job.â Rin chimed in.
âIs that true?â He questioned.
âYes. Itâs why I came to the city thinking Iâd have a better chance to find one. I actually just arrived this morning when I came across the Princess.â
âI see. Then tell me do you have any qualifications to be a Lady in Waiting?â
âI believe so your majesty. My mother schooled me in all the main subjects. Language, arts, history, literature, and such, so Iâd hoped to find a tutoring position with a noble family here.â
âHow interesting.â The King put Rin down. âFor such a coincidence.â
Startled, Kagome bowed low again. âI swear it was never intended your majesty.â She didnât want the king to think sheâd targeted Rin for a nefarious reason. âMy only intentions were to make sure she got home safely.â
He waved his hand with a chuckle. âI believe you. Our Rin here is very determined and she must have taken a genuine liking to you. But the decision is up to her father, my son to make.â The King then turned to his granddaughter. âWhy donât I wait here with miss Tanaka, and you go and fetch your father?â
âOkay!â Rin skipped merrily away on her mission. âIâll be back quick!â
âWhile we wait, tell me more about yourself miss Tanaka. For starters, it is unusual for a commoner to be educated.â
âOh⌠as a young girl my mother was a nanny for a noble house and as her ward was tutored, she herself learned things. She told me she loved learning so much that she took every opportunity she could to read and spent her off times in that familyâs library. After marriage and having me, she took it upon herself to make sure I was educated because she wanted me to have a better life.â
âShe sounds like a good mother.â
âI miss her dearly and only hope that one day Iâll be as good a mother as she was.â
âYour instincts have already shown through when you saw a lost child and decided to help her.â
Kagome blushed. âThank you, your majesty for your kind words.â
They chatted for only a couple more minutes by the time Rin came back holding the hand of a tall, very statuesque male. Her father looked a lot like the King except his hair was free flowing and he had a crescent moon on his forehead. Another glaring difference was in demeanor. While the King was very pleasant from the get-go, Rinâs father wore an irritated expression. The child had mentioned that he scared people, and now Kagome could see why.
âThatâs her, papa!â Rin pointed at Kagome. âSheâs the one I want to be my attendant.â
âMiss Tanaka,â the King gestured, âthis is my son Prince Sesshomaru.â
Kagome bowed to the Prince. âItâs nice to meet you, your highness.â
The Prince looked down, fixing Kagome in a stare as he spoke. âMy daughter tells me you found her lost in the market?â
âYes, your royal highness.â
âIâve spoken with Miss Tanaka, and she appears to have all of the qualifications needed for the position.â The King tells his son. âI would approve, but the decision is yours.â
âPlease, daddy!â Rin pulled on her fatherâs hand. âSheâs really, really nice! I really like her!â
The Prince barely showed any reaction to his childâs whims, so it was hard to discern what he was thinking. Kagome just continued to stand there silently and demure as possible while he stared straight at her. It was nerve wracking!
Finally, the man spoke. âVery well. The royal steward will prepare a room for you.â He then gave a slight nod to his father and left the room leaving his child practically bouncing with excitement.
The moment Sesshomaru turned his back, Kagome let out the breath she didnât know sheâd been holding in. His intensity was a force all its own and she had no idea how Rin could be so mellow to it. Yet the child was completely oblivious and seemed to have the man wrapped around her fingers. He didnât even question anything.
The king chuckled. âRin, why donât you show Ms. Tanaka around while things are taken care of.â
âOkay papa!â Rin grabbed Kagomeâs hand and started pulling her away. âIâll show you all the cool parts in the palace! Then we can hang out in my room.â
âIt was nice to meet you, your majesty.â Kagome tried and failed to bow properly while being yanked away to the chuckling amusement of the King.
They spent much of the afternoon walking around the palace, inside and out with Rin playing the excitable tour guide introducing Kagome to everyone. It was a typical sized palace from what she could see, though the styling is what differed from her own. Several private rooms and guest rooms, administrative type rooms, entertaining rooms, etc. But the one she knew instantly sheâd be spending a considerable time in would be the library. Oh, the texts that room held were simply amazing! So many ancient documents dating back hundreds or perhaps thousands of years! Itâll be wonderful to take a book and read it in the lovely garden on a nice sunny day.
As the afternoon sun dipped closer to the horizon, the royal steward found the pair in Rinâs room chatting quietly about a storybook theyâd found in the library. Myouga was the older manâs name and he explained to Kagome her duties under the official role of the Lady in Waiting to the Princess. She was the childâs tutor in all areas of education and would accompany the girl any time she left the castle grounds or as needed by the Princess. All of her food, shelter, and personal needs including attire would be furnished by the kingdom along with a small stipend. The same bedchamber maids that attended to Princess Rinâs laundry and cleaning would also take care of hers.
âThe former attendants room has been prepared for you Miss. Tanaka. It is the next room over. Your clothes for dinner has already been laid out on your vanity by the bedchamber maid. I trust we chose the correct size for you. Tomorrow, I shall have one of the royal guards take you to the royal seamstress to set you up properly.â
âThank you, Mr. Myouga. I understand. I just have one question. Before meeting Rin in the marketplace, Iâd boarded my horse and meager belongings at the Umagoya. Iâd like to retrieve them. My horse is very precious to me.â
âCertainly. See the palace stable hand and heâll accompany you to retrieve your horse to take it back to the stables.â
Once the man left them alone, they followed his instructions of taking the stable hand into town with them to hand off the horse. It would have been nice if she could spend more time with the stead to get him adjusted, but they needed to get ready for dinner. So, Kagome promised Rin theyâd visit Buyo in the stables the next day. When they arrived back at their rooms, two bedchamber maids were waiting, one for each other them.
Kagome patted the hand she held of Rinâs. âIâll fetch you once Iâve changed, okay?â
âYup!â Rin hugged Kagome before skipping towards her room.
The white dress with red, orange, and pink accents presented to Kagome was a bit more extravagant than sheâd expected to be given to a simple attendant. It was elegant and form fitting from the bust down to the floor, with a slit running down the side of the skirt from mid-thigh to allow for easier movement. The top half was full sleeved, mid-collared, with knotted button closures running down the front until it reached mid-chest. Sheâd noticed this outfit resembled the same style worn by other nobles and royals in the palace, but not the commoners who wore much simpler outfits. And while not mentioned yet, the colors were also a theme associated with the royal family. It was very different from what people wore back home in her kingdom, but the style was beautiful to Kagome. Aside from the dress, the bedchamber also re-did her hair, adding accessories befitting the dress as well as makeup. Kagome was glad to see it was done with a natural tone and not too gaudy. She never did like being made up to look like a doll. It was a bit odd to her that sheâd be dining with the royal family, but again she assumed it was because of Rinâs age and excitable nature. The child was young and having her attendant present necessary so the adults could go about their business. It was nice though, that they included the child. Kagome chuckled inwardly as she thought about the two royal members sheâd met so far. The Prince did not seem to even care about a child being around yet must have a heart to have adopted Rin in the first place.
The bedchamber provided information on other dynamics of the royal household so that she wouldnât ask the wrong questions. According to the woman, the Inutaisho had two queens. The primary Queen was Prince Sesshomaruâs mother through an arranged marriage. It was a loveless marriage, so once sheâd fulfilled her obligation of providing a son, she was allowed to live away in her own royal villa in the countryside. It was a few years later when the Inutaisho met a human Princess in another kingdom, fell in love, and took her as a second Queen. She too bore a son, half yokai, half human named Prince Inuyasha. Prince Sesshomaru was married but he and Princess Kagura had yet to produce an offspring of their own. Rin, again according to the woman was an orphaned daughter of a highly respected human general in the army who despite his ornery disposition really gravitated to the Prince. That affection grew on the Prince until heâd decided to simply adopt the child as his own. It was a really nice story and showed maybe first impressions are not always accurate.
âGood evening Ms. Tanaka,â Inutaisho welcomed Kagome as she sat beside Rin at the large dining table. âI trust your accommodations are amenable?â
âVery much so, your majesty. Thank you very much. Your palace is very beautiful.â
The king chuckled. âIs there any room in the palace you liked the most?â
âThe library,â Kagome responded. âAll the old texts are quite amazing to see gathered in one place.â
âAh yes.â He smiled. âThere is much history held in that room.â
Prince Sesshomaru and his wife Princess Kagura arrived shortly, and Rin introduced Kagome to her mother. Kagura was just as statuesque as her husband, a poised beauty befitting a future Queen. Servants puttered about setting out appetizers before the first course coming in a few minutes. So, in the meantime, Kagome and Kagura chatted about Rinâs schedule. The woman was happy to see her adopted daughter so happy because the child never got along with the last attendant, regardless of how highly recommended the woman had been.
âAh!â The King suddenly stood up. âThereâs my Queen.â
Kagome stopped talking to look at who the man was talking about and saw another gorgeous woman walking towards him. The Queen was definitely human, with long raven hair pinned back away from her face, and flowing dress of the royal color schemes. They were adorable to Kagome, how the Inutaisho greeted her and helped her into her chair. Royals were often assumed to be haughty, proud, and snobbish but it could be quite the contrary as evident in the Inutaishoâs caring nature. Kagome was certain that, if necessary, the man could be a very imposing figure indeed, but with loved ones no different than any other, human or yokai.
The King introduced Kagome to his wife. âThis is Queen Izayoi.â
Kagome stood up and bowed. âIâm pleased to meet you, your majesty.â
âIâm pleased to meet you too, Ms. Tanaka, Iâve heard a lot about you from my husband. Thank you for taking care of my granddaughter.â
âYouâre too kind,â Kagome bowed again.
âIâm certain youâ Oh,â the Queen cut short and focused heâd gaze past Kagome. âYou made it, my son.â
âSon?â Kagome turned to see who the Queen was talking about. âOh⌠wowâŚâ
âInuyasha, come meet your nieceâs new Lady in Waiting, Ms. Tanaka.â

Back at it again since tumblr didnt want me in the tags the first time
Bakugou was irritable today. Not that his irritability was anything new but every little thing set his skill crawling. His forearms littered with threatening pops as he bared his teeth to anyone brave enough to look his way.Â
He figured the only way to get his agitation out was to hit something, anything.
So he headed to one of the two closest gyms from his small apartment to blow off some much needed steam. The local 24 hour gym that was open to the public was a no go, not just because it was always over crowded but also because he got banned after cussing out some damn extras who were snapping pictures of him instead of working out like one should. Leaving his only other option to be the agency's "gym".Â
When he first set foot into the sorry excuse of a gym he demanded a better upgrade for it, if they expected to keep him and Kirishima in top shape. Otherwise he would begin to look elsewhere considering other agencies were dying to have the newest upcoming pro hero in their rankings. The agency obliged, delivering his expectations and more in less than a week. Guess being in the top five really did have its perks.Â
The ash blonde pulls his shiny new coupe into the parking garage and finds a spot closest to the entrance. He grabs for his water bottle from the passenger seat before exiting the car, locking his black beauty as he made his way inside. He swipes his fob over the keypad before it beeps while flashing green, allowing him entrance to the back door of the basement. Walking past the long corridor of support labs that had long since closed to get to the gym. The rooms illuminated by the low light of locked computers, secrets and redesigns stowed away behind bullet proof glass.Â
Nearing the end of the dimly lit hall he spies harsh light flooding onto the linoleum floor, indicating that someone seemed to be collecting some major overtime. From his experiences at UA he figured each room would be filled to the brim with over eager support, eccentrically yelling at one another over specs and improvements, sharing their love of science at a volume much too high for Bakugou's taste. Shortly after his hero debut he discovered just how wrong he was about the support labs. He had needed a 2am, mid shift, costume adjustment so he came here, expecting the place to be brimming with brilliant minds only to find one person still working.Â
So it should be no surprise that at 10:30 at night there was one room that was clearly occupied. Still a rare curiosity takes over the hot head as he peeks into the room while passing, wondering if he will catch a glimpse of you again.Â
He found you odd, as you seemed to be nocturnal or better yet maybe you didn't sleep at all. No need for it as your hunger for knowledge seemed to outweigh any basic human need.
Bakugou had only seen you a handful of times, here and there in passing towards the gym at all hours of the day and night. Maybe it was just coincidence that he would find you hunched over something with this gleam in your eye as you destroyed and rebuilt the item over and over again. Â
He shakes his head, he doesn't get it. Doesn't get why you dedicate so much time when no one else in your department seemed to give as much of a damn as you did. Or maybe he did get it, maybe it was similar to how he pushes himself so he can be number one, except yours was just for intellectual stimulation.Â
After an hour and a half of throwing weights and punches around and becoming heavily drenched in sweat, Bakugou finally calls it a night. Gulping water from his water bottle before wiping at the sheen that collected on his forehead. He sighs out, before catching himself in the mirror. Smirking as he flexes, letting go a few pops. Admiring not only his improved physique but also his new hair style. Sides faded but top long, ash strands looking borderline messy, as if someone had just caught him and a lover kissing heavily in a dark hall during a house party, their fingers desperately pulling at his hair.Â
He reaches for the ceiling in a grunting stretch as a yawn forces its way out. He leaves the gym, switching off the lights before making his way back to the parking garage. A furrow of his brow as he notices the light to your lab is still on, maybe you had forgotten to kill the light when you left or maybe you were still tinkering away. Crimson eyes peer into the room, spying you as you begin to stretch. Your eyes latch onto his as he watches your expression go from concentrated to elated. You jump from your seat, causing Bakugou's brow to furrow more before you're flinging open the door and yanking at his wrist.
"Wow what are the odds?! Well I guess they would be around 4.64% considering you don't normally frequent this gym but I should also factor in your recent ban raising it up to.."Â
"Oi, shitty woman, quit the nerd talk!" He yanks his wrist from your small, delicate hands. Totally unsure of what your name is and even if he did know it, he would sooner address you with an insult than your family name.Â
"Ah I forget, not everyone loves numbers. But still I am quite lucky tonight." You beam up at him, hair threatening to fall loose from its haphazardly shaped bun, "You're just the man I needed to see, Bakugou."Â
He isn't sure why but a faint blush creeps to his cheeks, was it your bright smile that threw him so off guard or was it the way your lips formed around his name?
He sucks his teeth, looking away from you with crossed arms.Â
"Well I'm sweaty as fuck, so you really don't need me." He huffs but before he can turn on his heel you're clamping cool black metal to his forearms. You guide him to the door to the testing area of your lab, turning his arms this way and that to make sure your measurements are perfect as you ramble on.Â
"No! No! That is the perfect condition for this experiment. I've been working on your winter costume since there are deficiencies with your current one. Since you, and I'm sure you already know, sweat less in the winter there needs to be some sort of counter balance to offset the possibility of little to no stored sweat. Preventive measures could be made sure and you collect sweat from previous activities but 'stale' sweat does not ignite as quickly or as violently as fresh sweat. One could argue that using heavier and denser materials could help aid in more sweat production but this risks overheating should a mission need you inside or a rapid change in environment all together outweight any benefit. So not only are these bracers less obnoxious than your gauntlets, no offense, but they collect 56 to even 62% more of expandable sweat compared to the normal 54% all while reducing the amount needed for ignition. Sure my colleagues could say that's a marginal improvement at best butâŚ" Heat radiates off of him in waves, pulling your eye upwards. You're met with a red hot gaze that seems to rake over your skin. An odd chill runs down your spine as you realize your mistake.Â
Nerd talk. And rambling nerd talk at that.Â
All the while Bakugou wonders why your hands are so damn cold and yet they feel good, soothing to his warmed skin. Refreshing even as it reminds him of a passing breeze in the summer or hiding in the shade from the sun.
A bit of heat rushes into your cheeks as you suddenly realize how close you are to THE Ground Zero. Someone who you knew so intimately through paper and yet knew nothing about all at the same time. You knew his measurements, the circumference of his head, his biceps, the number of inches around his thighs. Hell, you had them memorized since the big boss upstairs assigned you his costume and accessories well over a year ago. And yet you couldn't even fathom to name his favorite color or favorite food for that matter.
You swallow thickly, clearing your throat as you move on, dropping his deadly hands as you do.
"Ah, anyway, these bracers are designed to help with not only better sweat collection in both summer and winter but to aid in some stealth missions as they make no sound compared to your heavy gauntlets." You smile at him once more causing his stomach to flip before those small icy hands press harshly into his toned hot back, pushing him into the testing chamber behind diamond glass.Â
"I just need you to test them. I need to make sure they can withstand your heat and power." With that you shut him away, quickly trotting to the mic on the other side. Pressing the button to speak as he turns his arms over looking at the smooth black materialÂ
"Now, remember, it takes less sweat. So don't go all out!" At first you worry it falls on deaf ears before he gives a nod your way. Suddenly you are in awe of the power house that stands before you as his expression changes from utter agitation to complete determined focus, all with something as simple as a deep breath out. He focuses on producing enough sweat to ignite, calling on his quirk as if it were an extension of himself. Pooling it onto his skin, permeating the air with the slight smell of burnt sugar before he let's go a small pop.Â
But the medium sized explosion he had expected was anything but what was produced. Suddenly the brace on his arm explodes from the pressure as does the diamond glass in the room. Fear grips Bakugou as shards of glass go flying towards you before you flick your wrist harshly. Â
The deadly shards bypass you, glistening shrapnel sinks deeply into the tile floor around you like a piece of jagged art.
And yet you seem unphased, delighted even as a manic smile paints your lips before it sours. Eyes noticing that the bracer barely stood up to the challenge.Â
"FuckâŚthe density still cannot withstand the joules output or force that Bakugou is capable ofâŚ" A string of murmurs that remind him all too much of Deku as your fingers curl in the air, calling forth the failed experiment with unseen forces. The blonde long forgotten as you hunch over the workbench, going back to square one.Â
Crimson eyes dissect your form and actions as you pull various books and tools towards you with the influence of your quirk, hovering around the work space.Â
Suddenly you feel heat radiating behind you when normally you're enveloped in the cool air of the air conditioning, kept extra low in the labs to prevent overheating of parts. You look over your shoulder, suddenly remembering the Pro hero who's beginning to wonder why you're in support with a quirk like that.Â
"I know, I know. The last bus and train left hours ago. I'll catch them in the morning." You guess at why he's lingering as you wave him off with your hand. He's caught off guard by your statement before he notices the clock, going to open his mouth to scold before snapping it shut.Â
Why should he care if you work through the night? What was he gonna do? Offer you a ride when he didn't even know your name?Â
He sucks his teeth biting out as he leaves.Â
"Just call me when you're ready to test these again."Â
Weeks pass and it's as you never left the lab. Glued to the same spot as he tests the product every other week only for you to grow more and more frustrated with each failure punctuated by shattered bracers.Â
And every time he enters the lab room he learns something new about you. He can tell when or if you've left the lab for longer than a few minutes by how tidy the space is or lack thereof. A chaotic circle encompasses you filled with random items that you hope will ignite a spark of inspiration. Anything from books to thin sheets of metal and even to soft fabrics that haphazardly lay atop metal tools. Anything one could possibly imagine was probably there, sitting along-side several empty cups that once held iced coffee. He notices the bags beneath your eyes as they darken with each passing week and he's beginning to wonder if you've ever left as he leaves anywhere between 12 to 3am most nights.Â
Tonight is no different as he makes his way to the gym at midnight while you're hunched over his bracers. A part of him wants to tell you to stop being an idiot, to rip you from your little stool and drag you to your bed or wherever the fuck you'll sleep as the other part points out 'why do you fucking care?' So he watches silently, eyes fixated on you until he runs out of glass to look through before he locks himself away in the gym.Â
Bakugou puts in his black wireless earbuds before cranking his music up, tossing his phone onto a nearby workbench. He stretches this way and that, reaching for the sky as he looks at his form in the mirror, his hard earned V and bottom two abs wink at his reflection beneath his signature black tank top and his black hoodie.Â
His fist connects easily with the heavy black bag suspended by a large chain. The sandbag swings back and forth with a creak with each heavy handed blow. Bakugou loses time with each kick and hit thrown at the bag, each passing song fueling his desire to melt his frustration until his hair is plastered to his forehead. He lets out a steadying breath as his heart roars in his chest,he rears his fist back for a final blow backed by a bit of his quirk. It connects with the well worn leather with such force a weak link in the chain snaps as the fabric obliterates, the 200lb bag flies into the mirror behind it. Shards of reflective glass glitter as they rain onto the matted floor.Â
"Fuck." He huffs, stretching and turning to the opposite mirror. Sending a quick snap of his tongue out with the caption "Oops" as the background showcases the decimated gym to Kirishima. He picks up his bag, removing his ear buds to be met with the cool air of the hallway.Â
Your light is still on causing him to grind his teeth as his phone reads 2:45am. He's angry enough he chooses to avoid looking into your enclosure as he walks past, fearful his sharp tongue will give him away. He misses you perk up, frantically waving for him to come in before you're at the door, flinging it open to yell out much too loudly in the empty halls.Â
"Bakugou!" Your voice is hoarse and cracks from disuse before you clear your throat, lightly jogging to catch up to his large stride, "I've done it!"Â
He ignores you, lips pursed in a tight line before your cold hand wraps tightly around his wrist. Pulling him back to the lab with eager steps. He rips away his wrist with a growl and follows you reluctantly, you seem unphased by his harsh actions.Â
"I've finally perfected it. I'm sure this time. I was looking at it all wrong. Larger surface area does not always equate to better absorption. Not to mention the pressure for the explosions beneath the bracer is what was causing the failure in the first place. A marginal error that I should have caught earlier. This new design covers less than 15% of your skin but increasesâŚ." You ramble but it all falls on deaf ears.Â
Bakugou sees that your hair is so loose in its ponytail it might as well be down. The bags beneath your eyes weigh heavy on your pretty features, your skin showing signs of dehydration as it seems to have lost some of its elasticity. Your lab coat is wrinkled and your nametag, that you're wearing for once, is pinned on upside down. He commits your name to memory although he finds it odd that it must be your first name instead of your family name, then again you do hail from overseas. As the two of you walk into your lab he realizes instantly that it has become your main living space. Shards of diamond glass still litter your floor, there is no rhyme or reason to the placement of objects. Tools, and trash commingle in dangerous piles and stacks around the room. Something knits itself as it floats in the air, wavering a bit when you pause your rambling to yawn.
"Oi nerd!" Bakugou's voice is sharp, authoritative as he grips onto your wrist. Eyes still washing over the room before they land on you. Somehow you're too daft or too tired to pick up on his concern.Â
"Yea yea nerd talk. I fucking get it." A half snap from your exhaustion, "JustâŚ"Â
You lose his grip before grabbing onto his arm, finding a mesh woven bracer somehow on that disastrous desk. It seems to be made of a soft, elastic fabric as you slip it over his thick forearm after shoving away his sweatshirt sleeve.
"Perfect, your sweat output was pretty close to max earlier. I could smell caramel from the gym. This is going to be so fucking great!" You giggle in delight as the other mesh bracer finishes itself, dropping before you frantically reach for it. He notices your faulty step, your under the breath curse and the long moment your eyes flutter. He almost bites his tongue clean off.Â
Again your cool hands find his burning skin as you try to keep your tired brain focused on the task at hand and not how his forearms have grown nearly a half inch since your first encounter. It's difficult not to fall victim to his intoxicating smell as you force yourself to not sway on your feet and collapse into a lovely muscular man. His heat seems to have some sort of affect on you, causing an odd affinity between you both.
"Okay all done! Please give a medium sized blast!" You encourage, shoving him into the testing chamber as he glares down at you. He isn't sure why your chaotic state is bothering him but it does. He rolls his eyes as you slam the door shut. He brings clarity to his mind, focusing on his quirk and how the sweat feels against his skin. How it yearns to be something more, to explode into a whispering flame that may catch something ablaze.Â
He gives in, just a little, giving it what it wants, igniting it with a simple thought. An explosion he would have considered large if he were still at UA but since all he's done is grow these past five years, earning him the number 3 rank, it comes to no surprise when the glass shatters yet again.Â
Except this time you're too entranced with the smoke clearing, of seeing if your baby you've slaved over has made it through to comprehend the sharp threat. You notice the flying glass a moment too late, flicking your wrist to change the trajectory from what was supposed to be your entire body but your arms are grazed by the razor sharp shards. You grit your teeth, cursing to yourself calling forth a first aid kit.Â
But nothing shows up in your peripheral except for a looming presence. One you give your back to in order to find the first aid kit with your gaze, when was the last time you ever had to look at something to summon it?Â
Damn it, how could you be experiencing quirk failure from exhaustion right now? Sure it took a lot of brain power for your quirk but it takes weeks of no sleep for a failure plus you had been eating...your eyes glance around the room. You hadn't been eating, or so it says from the lack of any sort of plate or take out aside from your iced coffees with the added protein and carbohydrate shots your body needed to process your quirk with ease.Â
Fuck, guess it really was quirk failure. You bite your lip, unable to find that damned kit hoping the hot head wouldn't catch on to your short coming.Â
Vermillion eyes watch crimson spots bloom across the white fabric of your coat. He grinds his teeth, searching for the first aid kit only to find it knocked beneath a shelf. He rights himself, stalking your way with a grimace just to stop in his tracks. He watches you slip your oversize jacket off of strong shoulders, toned arms adorned with several thin slices that weep red, but what has really caught his attention was that body con dress.Â
Sticking to you like a second skin, but looking somehow comfortable at the same time, he wonders for a moment if you've made it yourself. It's similar to the fabric used to make his shirts, breathable, soft, always smelling a bit sweet like you when they are fresh from the lab. His hand twitches as he can imagine how supple your curves would feel in the delicate yet sturdy material, palm already too familiar with the soft sensation. Red catches his eye once again pulling him from the trance that is your body. He sneers at the cuts as he grabs onto your cold shoulder, shoving you into your chair so he can work on you. You look up a bit shocked with a pinch of anger mixed in and a dash of hurt pride. He takes no notice as he wraps bandages tight around your arms, your eyes locked onto the bracers. The smile on your face cannot be helped as you stare proudly at your work, it was able to withstand so much power and remain not only in tact but unsinged. You grab onto his wrist turning it this way and that, a pen and pad float near by as you take notes. Bakugou cannot hide his astonishment as he watches the invisible hand borrow your neat yet rushed script as it is unable to keep up with your thoughts. You pull the bracers from his arms, fabric begins to tear itself thread by thread before spooling itself, wrapping around wood as if it were a snake. He pulls away, eyes hard as he talks himself out of whatever the stupid "heroic" side of him is saying. He takes a step back and with it taking his warmth. You shiver but you are too busy to notice, teeth chattering ever so slightly but you're too busy studying. He growls to himself.Â
Suddenly you're enveloped in a dizzying sweet smell and warmth, it is then you realize that Bakugou had shoved his hoodie over your head. Slinking your arms into the holes to move the hood of the sweatshirt back, quickly realizing the material is not damp as you had once thought. It's warm from his quirks use, material dry as a bone, reminding you of pulling your favorite blanket fresh from the dryer just to wrap yourself in it as rain taps on the window of your apartment.Â
Subconsciously you snuggle into it, opening your mouth to state how much work you have to do but instead you have to stifle a yawn.Â
Had the cold of the lab always kept you awake, were you starting to actually feel the weight of your work only because you were warm?Â
"I think it's time for bed, nerd."Â
He places his hot palm on the back of your neck in a power move as he speaks. He enrages you and entices you all at once as your face snaps up to meet his gaze, your own eyes burning holes into him. He smirks down at you, deciding in this moment that he really likes you. Â
"I'm taking you home. Get your shit." He squeezes your nape as a warning. He isn't taking no for an answer.
"I'll take the bus and train in the morning, three hours is child's play." Hitting his hand away, trying to return to your work. He scoffs in response.Â
"You sure are oblivious for someone so smart. Tomorrow is Saturday." He crosses his exposed arms, unable to hide his smug smirk as realization washes over your stunning features, "That means the bus won't be in the business district til 10am."Â
"I think I'll be okay." You say after a moment of silence, "I've waited longer. Or I could walk..."Â
"Will you?" He retorts, "Your office says otherwise."Â
You follow his gaze, your entire office in disarray, as if a bomb went off.Â
You guess in a sense one had gone off. Biting your lip as you mull it over, eyes finding Bakugou's file shuffled across your desk, spying your own hand written cliff notes.Â
Stubborn your script reads, you sigh admitting defeat as you wave your hand over the file. It tidies itself, papers folding neatly back into the Manila folder before you snap your fingers.Â
Bakugou watches items soar around the room, books fighting and bickering over their order, pens and pencils long forgotten in corners of the room race back to their place on your desk. Papers flutter and fall into the trash or shredder in defeat as plastic cups sink into the plastic bin in the corner. The diamond glass follows suit as your own hands grab onto the bracers, giving them a gentle squeeze before you access an invisible drawer on your desk, hiding away your project before pushing it back. Wood flush against wood as if there were no drawer at all.Â
A question burns on the tip of Bakugou's tongue, it dies in his throat for now as a new one is born.Â
"That Kirishima's faceplate?" The question comes out in the form of a bite, for some reason the thought of his more likeable friend coming in here as often as Bakugou has set his blood boiling.Â
"Ah yes, I just got this assignment from the big boss. Kirishima's new unbreakable breaks his faceplate everytime. Otto had it before me, which was odd. He is more of a reverse engineer. Taking an unknown material and figuring out how it works." Your eyes linger over the empty office across the way, "But he's been out and Kirishima can apparently no longer be on the back burner. Especially now that I've finished with the company's top hero."Â
His heart melts just a bit as he watches a smidge of pride form in your dazzling eyes. He scoffs to change the topic.
"Come on, shitty woman." He guides you to the parking garage.Â
Once there he acts out of character. At least what you would believe to be out of character as he holds open the door to his car for you, waiting for you to step in.Â
"What?! I ain't fucking kidnapping you but I ain't letting you weasel out of this shit either." He growls, waiting impatiently by the door. You step in as he gently shuts the door behind you. He steps in himself, the engine purrs to life as you give him your address.Â
"That far out? And you were gonna fucking walk?" He laughs, "Hell no, never again. You'll call me before you do that next time."Â
"I don't have your number asshole." You grumble to yourself but he grabs your unlocked phone from your hands, plugging in his number and calling it.Â
"There now you do." He locks it and puts it in his cup holder, demanding your attention. No longer can he keep that burning question to himself, "Why are you on support?"Â
It puzzles you for a second before you realize he means it as a compliment to your quirk and not an insult to your intellect.Â
"Oh that's easy. Being a hero wouldn't benefit me, it's too restrictive. I'm more of aâŚ." You ponder on your words, vigilante was wrong, you wouldn't take justice into your own hands for the sake of others and villain was too strong, "Chaotic neutral. My moral compass is pretty grey and being in this lab benefits my need for knowledge."Â
Bakugou glances your way, respectful of your honesty while your eyes become heavy watching the street lights blur, the hum of the engine pulling you deeper into relaxation. There was something about a car ride that took you back to your childhood days in America. The outskirts of the city would quickly wind into back roads lined with corn stalks that scrapped the sky.Â
The street lights slowly became fewer and farther in between as the black coupe took you further from the heart of the city, soon more stars began to dot the sky. You see just the tip of his zodiac constellation, it stirs a question within you.Â
"So why do you want to be a hero?" You keep your eyes focused on the backdrop that lies beyond the tinted glass, missing Bakugou's knuckles turn stark white.Â
He doesn't speak and that's answer enough for you. Â
It took him an hour to get to your side of town, an hour. One you had said you would walk, one you mentioned you had walked before. He pulls up the sidewalk by your building, turning to you.Â
"We're hereâŚ" His announcement turns into a sigh as he sees your slumped form. Head limp but thankfully not leaning on the glass as you're snuggled into his hoodie. You're murmuring how you need to update your measurements in your sleep causing Bakugou to roll his eyes. He pulls away to parallel park. He debates, should he wake you?Â
No, who's to say you wouldn't attempt tor eturn to your work? He sighs, pocketing your phone and pulling the lanyard out of your purse that has, what he assumes, your house key on it.Â
Katsuki's blood runs ice cold in his veins as realization sucker punches him square in the chest. He had NO fucking idea which apartment was yours. He turns your key over and over but why would that have the number on it?Â
"Fuck." He would have to pray your mailbox was both clearly labeled and inside. He shoulders your purse before scooping you into his arms, sure to cradle you like the princess you are.Â
He steps through the automatic doors, relief washes over him as a wall of mail boxes greet him. Better yet, they were neatly labeled with names AND apartment numbers.
But it is not long lived as his red eyes rake over the names, the family names, last names. He only knew your first and of course, of fucking course the Gods would laugh at him as panic rises in his throat. You had to have the most common first initial didn't you? He had spotted it six times already but none of the last names seemed out of the ordinary, if anything they were all ordinary, run of the mill Japanese last names. Nothing foreign about them.Â
"Fuck." He murmurs, plan B wouldn't work either, he can't just try out every fucking apartment with your first initial, how weird would that be, some guy shoving keys in random doors with a passed out woman in his arms.Â
"Fuck." He cusses again. Was he going to have to take you to his apartment? Fuck, fuck fuck! He couldn't do that, the press slunk around his apartment like vultures, even at this hour.
"Oh you must be the guy that's been keeping her up so late at night." A voice sounds behind him, he turns towards the sound. A smaller young man smiles at him as if he and Bakugou share an inside joke.Â
"Quite nice of you to bring her home, and get her mail." He laughs softly reaching for something in the desk, he approaches slowly, "But she must have forgotten to tell you she lost her key a couple of weeks ago. She always asks me to get the mail instead of paying the lost key fee. Don't blame her though."Â
The desk clerk, Wantanabe, rambles on as Bakugou's sharp eyes watch closely. Silently thanking the Gods' for their blessing as he watches Watanabe slide the spare key into your mail slot. He commits your last name to memory, but more importantly 5C burns into his retinas.Â
"...she hasn't been home in four weeks, so she has a lot of mail." That snaps Bakugou back to the present, a small stack of mail is presented to him. He stares down at your form unable to keep the scowl off of his face. The dark circles beneath your eyes seem to become darker by the second.Â
"Thanks." He growls through gritted teeth, snatching the mail as best he can without disturbing you. He looks for an elevator and when he sees he will have to climb five flights of stairs he wonders if this is the reason you don't come home often.Â
Soon enough 5C is staring Bakugou in the face. He is hesitant, even if he does bring you home safely he wonders if you would misread his actions. As the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished. Still his hands move quickly, sliding the key into the door and unlocking your mysteries. The apartment is sizable for the area, clean at least what he can see from the light of the hall flooding in. He flips on a switch with his elbow, he expected harsh light but instead ambient string lights that line the ceiling illuminate the space in a warm light. A three chair island with a marble water fall looks out into the living room, a large sectional couch swallows the space, a TV atop a nice entertainment table while books litter the coffee table and one part of the couch. The apartment feels as if it had been warmed by the sun through the drawn curtains but not overly hot, it feels cozy really. As if Bakugou could imagine himself spread out on the grey sofa while you're curled against him, half dozing half reading your book.Â
The thought jarrs him, he feels too close to you now, feverish almost as he rips your key from the door, shutting it softly before placing the lanyard onto the kitchen island. He spies a hall and passes a full bath, then a freshly vacant guest room to see a final door closed that he assumes is the master. He flips the switch and again light snakes around the ceiling washing the room in this comfort. He can understand the soft yellow lights considering you spend forty plus hours beneath harsh, bleaching white lights. He pulls back the comforter as best he can and lies you down gently. He removes your red bottom heels and praises the Kamisama when he sees you do not have on tights not that he would remove them anyway. You snuggle deeper into his hoodie, smiling as you do, dreaming of whatever little scientist's dream about. Katsuki imagines it's all math, measurements, molecular structures, nerd shit. You begin to murmur in your sleep.
"...gotta update his chartâŚ"Â
"Fucking nerd." Bakugou smiles to himself, you look peaceful even as your mind races with reminders. Another snuggle deeper into his hoodie, he goes to reach out to push hair from your face and stops himself.Â
"What the fuck am I doing?" He growls aloud, he doesn't know you. Barely figured out your last name and that was by both chance and stupidity on the desk clerk's. He heads for your bedroom door, stopping with his hand gripping the handle. He peers over his shoulder before killing the switch, flooding your room with darkness.Â
He shuts the door and with it the odd ache that's growing in his chest.Â

And Then There Were Three (Part 5)
Title: And Then There Were Three
Rating: Mature.
Warnings: Smut; rough sex, dirty talk (vulgar language this chapter), choking
Summary: After catching you with Jooheon, Changkyun becomes distant. Youâre determined to find out if heâs as jealous as you think he is.
Note: See masterlist for parts 1-4!
Just as you were able to read the shifts in Jooheonâs moods, you could do the same with Changkyun, but he was less subtle about it.
There was a heat that radiated off of him when you came near, and not the kind you were used to. His tone was deep and curt when you spoke at work, though it wasnât unusual to appear casual in your professional environment. But this was different. This read like anger.
You hadnât had the chance to be alone with him since he walked in on you and Jooheon at the dorm. Their schedule was getting hectic again and they barely had the time to breathe, much less do anything else.Â
âDo you think heâs avoiding me?â You asked Jooheon in a hushed tone as you stood at the back of the room, looking busy with accessories.
Jooheon shrugged, feigning ignorance, but when he glanced at his friend you could see his gears turning.
âIf he was upset about it, I feel like he would tell us. Heâs not exactly shy about his feelings.â Jooehon offered with a small, reassuring laugh.Â
âHas he said anything to you?â
âNot really.â
You sighed, knowing you would have to bring it up to him eventually.
For now, you focused on your job, or at least tried to. Every day, you asked yourself if this was a mistake, if all the fun was worth the turmoil you might find yourself in if someone got too jealous. You didnât understand why now, when he had never once expressed even a hint of it before. He made it apparent since day one that it was exclusively physical, and he didnât even bat an eye at sharing you with his best friend and co-worker. If anyone should be okay with it, it would be him.
There was more to it than that, though. You couldnât help but think back to what it felt like being alone with Jooheon, his care and precision, his tenderness and his words. He didnât treat you like a thing to be discarded and it was becoming apparent that you were more than a physical fancy to him.Â
He could hardly help himself sometimes. The way that Changkyun felt compelled to seduce and play with you, Jooheon often had to stop himself from being too affectionate. It was getting to the point that the others teased him about it, and that didnât help your situation with Changkyun one bit.
The worst part was that you liked it. You blushed and felt the slightest hint of butterflies from time to time that you put a great deal of energy into squashing. Catching feelings was the last thing you needed, and you were convinced it was only because it had been so long since you felt something other than lust. Plus, there was this profound sense of guilt you had for it, like you were cheating on Changkyun somehow.
Just as you were formulating a plan for how to approach him, you received a message out of the blue. He would be alone tonight and he wanted you to come over. The abrupt and welcoming message threw you off-guard, but you happily accepted the invitation.Â
When he invited you in, his cold demeanor hadnât changed much, and you wondered what his intentions were. You were anxious, watching him put something on the TV and meander around the kitchen before coming to sit next to you. He was surprisingly relaxed, but you could feel the invisible wall he put up, even if he didnât realize it.
âAre we going to talk?â You asked after a few minutes of silence.
âAbout what?â He asked almost too quickly in response. His gaze was hard-set into you as he turned and you felt challenged. Thatâs when the fear started to dissipate and boil up into anger. You had nothing to be sorry for.
âYou know, I donât appreciate all this attitude youâve been throwing at me lately.â You said sternly, and you could tell he didnât anticipate push-back this early into the conversation.
âIâve barely spoken to you.â He laughed, and there was something smug about it that only pushed you further. You remembered being in relationships in the past and just knowing that a fight was brewing, and this was exactly like that.
âYouâve been passive-aggressive for over a week now, will you just tell me what's wrong?â You sighed, already exasperated. You thought being in a physical relationship only meant that you could escape these kinds of conversations. Apparently not.
He turned away and you could see his jaw tighten, like he was holding back.
âIs it about me and Jooheon?â You asked, knowing that was the only thing it could be.
He looked back again just as quickly, eyes narrowed. âMaybe it is, but what does it matter?â
Finally, something you could work with.
âYou couldnât just tell me you were jealous?â
He laughed, âWho said that?â
âOh my God,â You rolled your eyes and reacted with your entire body. âThis is exhausting, why are men such babies about everything? Just communicate like an adult, Jesus. Why are we even fighting? Weâre not married, this is pointless.â You rambled, not even looking at him because you were lost in your own frustration. When you stopped, he was half-smiling at you.
âI like when you get all flustered.â
You blinked and closed your mouth, then scowled as the words sunk in. âWhat?â
âYouâre right, thereâs nothing to fight about. I got a little upset about it, so what?â
âOh, so youâre admitting it now?â
He edged himself across the couch so he was closer to you. âFine, you want the truth?â
âPreferably,â You nodded.
âIt wasnât anything as petty as jealousy, I donât get jealous.â
You narrowed your eyes, unsure what to make of his response, but curious to let him continue.
âI felt something different, and I didnât really know how to process it quite yet, so I took some time to myself to think about it.â
He reached up and ran a finger from underneath your chin across your jaw line, his eyelids hanging low. You felt your heart rate speed up and cursed yourself for it.
âAnd what was that?â You asked quietly.
âI felt, hmm,â He mused for a moment before grinning. âPossessive.â
You swallowed the sound that threatened to part from your lips. Instead meeting it was an inquisitive âOh?â
âI donât own you.â He clarified, then let his eyes drift down, âBut I do, donât I?â
It was all part of the game. Realistically, out in the waking world, you were two capable adults with independent minds and the freedom to feel and do as you pleased. But once the door closed and you were under him, you knew you would let him do almost anything. It was the dynamic you both agreed upon from the first night, letting go of your inhibitions and self-imposed restraints and letting him have the control. It was the thing you longed for, the thing that kept you coming back to him.
âIâm a rational person, so I knew I couldnât just be upset with you over something so normal and something you have every right to do.â He explained, then his voice deepend as he leaned in closer, âBut I also couldnât help picturing all the ways I was going to make you mine again.â
That word, mine, echoed in your head. Someone else had also uttered it to you in a moment of passion recently, and it sent a shiver down your spine. You had two people who seemed to want you desperately, and while you knew logically this was dangerous, it also excited you.
âYou put me through all this just to tell me something I already knew?â You asked, and he smiled.Â
âWould an apology help?â
You thought about it for a moment before answering. âI think thatâs fair.â
He took you swiftly by the wrist and stood up, tugging you along. You fumbled for a moment before you stood and let him lead you to his bedroom.
You barely had time to process what was happening, one minute arguing on the couch and now here he was sitting you down on the edge of the bed, leaning down and kissing you before he knelt on the floor in front of you.
âWhat are you doing?â You asked, his hands trailing up your bare calves, up to your knees where the bottom of your skirt stopped and rested over your thighs. He then gripped your legs and pulled them up off the ground, causing you to lose balance and fall back onto the bed with a squeak. He pushed your legs open and the skirt fell back, too, exposing what was underneath.
âIâm apologizing.â
The initial shock wore off and you felt your cheeks warm as he laid a hand over your clothed center and pressed, teasing you for a moment before slipping his fingers underneath and feeling between your folds.
âHm, youâre already wet but I know you can do better than that.â
He gripped the fabric and pulled it hard, forcing your legs up and together to rid you of the garment. When you let them fall back on either side of him, he wasted no more time, pushing your thighs apart and ducking his head down to taste you.
A sharp moan left you without warning and your hands fell to his hair. It had been a long time since heâd done this, and you almost forgot what his tongue felt like bearing down on your clit, rolling over the flesh and sucking you into his mouth. Changkyun abandoned this stimulation to travel downward, and you gasped unexpectedly when his tongue forced its way inside you, hands pressing back on your thighs to get deeper. Your fingers gripped his locks tight as you arched back and almost couldnât take it.Â
He pulled back for a moment, mouth glistening as he observed you, a low satisfied hum emanating from his chest.
âLook at what I do to you, youâre a mess.â
You blushed and closed your eyes tightly, feeling both aroused and embarrassed, and could only moan in response.
âTurn around.â
His voice was gruff as he stood up, and you let your feet fall gently to the floor as you sat up and stared up at him in awe for a moment. He was undoing his belt, looking down at you as he licked your juices off his lips.
âYou heard me.â
You quivered as you went to turn over, and as your knees hit the bed he was already yanking the skirt and the rest of your clothing off you. Suddenly you were naked, kneeling on your hands and knees and arching your hips up as you peered back over your shoulder.Â
He had discarded his own clothing and took his hard cock into one hand, stepping forward and deliberately brushing it against your entrance. You mewled and pressed back, trying to let him enter you, but he resisted.
âDo you want it bad?â He asked with a smirk.
You thought about making a sarcastic remark, knowing he was enjoying playing this game with you, but instead you countered him the only way you knew would actually make a blow to him.
You reached back and pulled yourself open, biting your lower lip and giving him a wanton yet demure stare. âYes, please.â
His eyes darkened and the smile fell away from his face, he let out a rough, low sound as he grabbed your hips and aligned his cock with you.Â
âI know Iâm not the only person who can turn you on,â He started before leaning forward, sinking his cock deep into you just as he grabbed a handful of your hair and pulled your head back so his lips came as close as they could to your ear, âBut Iâm the only person who can give it to you like this.â
With that, his hips snapped into a pounding rhythm, fucking you like only he could, hard but with intent, making you grip the sheets in your hands and your legs to tremble. This was the moment when you were his, when he made it clear you belonged to him, at least for right now, and you embraced it. You craved it.
The harder he fucked you the weaker you became, arms starting to wobble in an attempt to hold yourself up. His thrusts were unrelenting, like he had been storing up all his energy just for this moment.Â
The hand that still held your hair dropped down to your shoulder and he stopped briefly to pull you up. You wavered, dazed and shaky as you fell back against his chest and his arms circled under yours. One came up to lock your throat in his hand, and the other forced itself between your thighs, slick with your arousal. You groaned and arched against him, not sure which one you liked better.
Then he started to move again, thrusting up into you steadily, burying his cock to the hilt before letting gravity pull him back out just to do it again. His fingertips found your clit and he rubbed circles around the wet, swollen flesh as his other hand tightened around your neck.
âAll of this is mine,â Changkyun growled against your ear. âYour body, your pleasure, your cunt. I own this.â
He was always rough, always commanding and always made you feel like you were his, but this was different. Unlike his typical playful candor, he sounded serious. The passion and possessiveness was overwhelming, somehow equal parts terrifying and exhilarating and you didnât even consider stopping. Instead, his consuming words rasped heavily into your ear were pushing you toward a toe-curling, full body orgasm you couldnât stop even if you wanted to.
You felt so exposed like this, nothing to hold on to, so you reached back and dug your nails into his thighs as your pleasure mounted.Â
âI canât,â You near-sobbed, trying to tell him you couldnât hold on anymore.âIâm-itâs too much.â
He knew, he could read your body like the back of his hand; your shallow breaths and clenching muscles, slurred words, all tell-tale signs that your end was near.Â
âDonât hold back,â He said through his teeth, âGive me what's mine. Come for me.â
You sucked in a lungful of air as your eyes slammed shut, body pulling taut, then released it all in a long moan, bowing into him, squirming in his arms as you pulsed around his cock and sank your nails deeper in his skin. As you rode the last wave, he released you, letting you fall forward onto the bed and grabbing onto your hips to pull you flush against his pelvic bone, spluttering moans against the back of your neck as he came deep inside you.
You couldnât hold yourself up anymore, collapsing face first on the bed and wrapping your arms under your head, breathing hard and dripping sweat. Changkyun managed to hold himself over you, but rested his forehead between your shoulder blades and panted against your moist skin.
He finally pulled himself from you and fell heavy on the bed next to you, and you peered up from over your arm.
âSorry,â He mumbled, eyes glassy as he stared up at the ceiling, trying to control his pounding heart.
âFor what?âÂ
âI kind of got out of hand there,â He rolled his head toward you and forced an awkward laugh.Â
âItâs okay,â You rolled over on your side facing him, cheeks tinged with pink. âI liked it.â
The humor eased from his features as he looked at you for a long moment. âCan I tell you something?â
âOf course.â
âI sort of lied earlier,â
âOh?â You gave him a curious look, though you could guess what he was going to say.
âI may have actually been a little jealous. I was just trying to save face before.â
âI mean, the way you just fucked me made that abundantly clear.â
For the first time in all the times you had been with Changkyun, he blushed.
âI didnât want to be petty about it, I donât know what came over me.â He looked away. âIt was fine when it was the three of us, it felt more like Jooheon was just an addition to something you and I already had. But when I saw just the two of youâŚ.â He trailed off with a sigh.
You couldnât help but smile a little bit, it was nice to see him vulnerable for once.Â
âHow did it happen?â He asked suddenly, looking back at you with a sense of urgency, to your surprise.
âWhat do you mean?â
âI mean did you call him? Did he call you? Iâm curious.â He said, trying to seem vaguely interested but you already knew it was more than that. You decided to humor him.
âI came over to talk to him. He had been acting distant, as you recall, and I wanted to know why.â You answered with a half shrug.
âWhy was he distant?â
âSame reason you were. Feeling a little jealous and being too proud to just talk to me about it.â You smiled and he had a laugh at himself.
âThis is going to sound weird, and probably selfish, but..â He faded out, waiting to continue.Â
âBut?â You encouraged.
âWhat does he have that I donât? I mean, what does he do, that makes you want to be with him?â
You hadnât expected that question, but it did seem natural now that he asked it. His ego was hurt, he was used to being the one who satisfied you, the one you came running to for your urges.Â
âItâs...different with him. Not necessarily better, just different.â You tried to explain.
âCare to elaborate?â He asked, becoming visibly antsy to find out.
âI donât know, heâs ...tender.â You struggled to find the words. âItâs not rough but it's passionate. And itâs not boring, but it's kind of soft and makes me feel precious.â
Changkyunâs face looked troubled as you spoke. âThat makes sense.â
âLike I said, itâs not better. I like what you and I have, but sometimes I just want-â
âYou want to feel loved.â
You blinked at him in surprise. The word love was troublesome to you. You had thought you were in love, once. It was foolish and naive and ended terribly, so you decided you would avoid those feelings if at all possible. But maybe he was right? Maybe you missed that feeling. But that didnât mean you were in love, or that Jooheon-
âJooheon is in love with you.â He spoke bluntly, cutting off your thoughts. Now your eyes widened even more and you spluttered out a laugh. âWhat? NoâŚâ
âHe hasnât told me or anything, but I can tell.â
You couldnât believe that at all. Maybe he had a crush on you, but love?
âThe problem is,â Changkyun reached out and pushed a stray piece of hair away from your eyes.
âI think I might be, too.â

James maintained a tight grip on her as the Charon took them back to his chambers in the Asphodel Meadows. She was silent and still almost like a statue, her eyes taking in as they went away from the Tartarus to the Elysium and finally to the Meadows. Y/N wondered why the King of the Underworld had decided to make his home in such a bleak place. The sounds were always of torture and mumbled cries, the souls were people who, in Y/Nâs mind at least, deserved to be somewhere else, and were always begging to be taken out of their misery. It wasnât a pretty place but his home wasnât also sheâd call a home of a King much less a god. The ceilings were high and the walls were painted in light and dark tones of grey with minimalistic furniture. It was a far cry from what her mother would describe when speaking about deitiesâ residences. However, James seemed to be a simple man, at least thatâs how he showed himself before she got dragged way under.Â
   - Do you want me to ask the servants to draw you a warm bath? Maybe some flower petals? - James questioned, his hand coming up to her face to push some hair away from her sight. - Do you wanna eat anything? Just tell me what you wanna eat and Iâll make sur ...
   - Did you hurt Anne? - Y/N was probably the only person in the Underworld who could interrupt James without having the furies being released on them immediately. He darenât look at her, knowing exactly the look she was probably giving him, the type of look that would make him want to carry the world on his shoulders until she was happy.Â
  - I did not hurt Anne.Â
  - Did you turn her into any of the following. - she raised her fingers as if she were mentally counting. - A plant, an animal, some sort of plant-animal, cursed her, made her grow serpent hair ...
  - I didnât do anything, Y/N. - he held onto her hands before she could list other ways gods had punished mortals. He did wanted to punish Anne, there hadnât been anyone who deserved more to have the furies released upon them but he knew that if he did such thing, she would probably try and release the furies on him too. - However, next time something like that occurs I will punish them. Iâm the God of the Underworld and I wonât undermine that.Â
  - Thatâs fair. - Y/N scratched the back of her neck. She understood there was a side to him that she was yet to discover, the side of him that was a god, a ruler, but she still wanted to believe that he was her Bucky. - Shouldnât I get back to Hecate and the other maidens?
  - If you want. - he tried to maintain a calm facade but inside he was puzzling himself over if his words had maybe scared her and she would rather be with Hecate than to be with him. - Youâre free to do as you may. I just thought youâd want to stay with me.
There was a tinge of disappointment and uneasiness in his features, tightened expression as he managed not to show her how upset he felt that she did not want to be near him. Maybe it was too much for her to handle, after all up until a few hours ago she was sure she was dating a CEO and now she was dating the God of the Dead.Â
Noticing his, Y/N slowly raised her hands to rest against his cheek, her mere touch raising feelings of warmth in him.
  - Sounds like you want me to stay. - there it was, her little playful smirk. James wanted to roll his eyes at her, but he couldnât help but feel some sort of way whenever she outsmarted him.
  - I always want you to stay, Y/N. - of course he wanted her to stay. He had to endure the first moments of their relationship constantly counting the hours and looking at the sky so he wouldnât be caught and now she was here. Sure, she was here due to uncertain circumstances, but she was still here. - But if you wanna go back to the Elysium, I would understand.Â
  - I just donât want to cause you any trouble. - Y/N slightly turned her head to the side, embarrassment creeping into her soft features.
  - Why would you cause me any trouble, sweetness? - he took the hand that was craddling his face into his own hands, sensing something wrong. - Homesick?Â
  - Itâs just ... considering that Iâm supposed to be one of Hecateâs maidens, wouldnât people look down on you if they saw you with me?
  - Y/N. - he sighed. - Your parents were Greek historians, right?Â
  - Yeah.
  - So tell me, whatâs the worse thing a god has ever done? - that as a funny question for Y/N. There were lots of myths that made her sick to her stomach just hearing about it and other myths that would make her want to climb to Mount Olympus herself and punch some gods. The short answer was, there is no short answer.Â
  - Do you want it in alphabetical order? - she joked.Â
  - What do you think itâs the worse offence?Â
  - Well, if you asked me what I think was the worse thing ever done by a god Iâd say it was what Poseidon and Athena did to Medusa.
  - Were their reputations ruined even after what they did?
  - No.
  - Then I wonât get in trouble for associating with one of Hecateâs maidens.Â
  - Yeah but gods also turn into a wide variety of animals to go and do less than savoury things with mortals.
  - Less than savoury things? - he smirked. - Last time I checked you were one of Hecateâs maidens not Artemisâ.Â
  - Cut it off. - she playfully pushed his chest away. Bucky just rolled his eyes at her behaviour, wrapping his arms around her waist, carefully moving her closer to him afraid she mightâve gotten hurt at the Tartarus.Â
  - Come, letâs get some food in you. - he guided her through his place. She wondered why it was so minimalistic and why is it in the Asphodel Meadows of all places. Maybe he disliked to be surrounded by all the fauna and flora of the Elysium or maybe Hecate didnât allow him near it. Nevertheless, it was an odd place and an oddly unremarkable home, at least for that of a King.Â
He left her waiting in his dinning hall, allowing her time to inspect it. There was nothing much but a dinning table surrounded by various book shelves. The books were in Greek for what she could muster but what caught her attention were a few picture frames by a half empty unit of the shelf. Y/Nâs hands reached for the first one, a sepia coloured photo of Bucky and a blonde man she swore sheâd seen before. His hair was much shorter and shabbier with a child like grin, arms around the blonde guy who looked much more polished. Her mind was telling her she had seen this picture before, she just couldnât point it.
The other frame contained the photo of a couple dressed in hellenic clothing adorned by golden accessories. The man was standing tall, hand on the womanâs shoulder whose hair rivalled the gold colour of the pins in her head and stood sat on a porcelain chair. The look in the womanâs eyes was serene yet controlling, almost like a storm brewing over calm seas. On both their heads sat adorned jewelled crowns and the man held the same staff James had been holding back in the Tartarus.
  - Y/N? - his voice suddenly echoing through the silent made her drop the face on the carpeted floors, a flush creeping through the apples of her cheeks as she herself dropped to the floor to grab it and put it back in its due place. - What are you doing?Â
  - I was just looking at your photos. - she put her hands behind her back, eyes lowered to the ground like a child who had just been scolded. Bucky walked over to where she was standing, looking at the frame she had put back. - Are they your parents?Â
  - No, sweetness. - he chuckled. - Thatâs Hades and Persephone, well, the original ones. I find you must have memory of those who came before you.Â
  - Sheâs beautiful. I mean, I always thought Persephone had to be beautiful, after all it was said her undying beauty was what made Hades kidnap her.Â
  - Hades didnât kidnap her. - Bucky always forgot that mortals still fully believed the myth brought back to light by the Greek. Honestly, it was a disgrace that no Underworld God had yet to chance the misconception.Â
  - Yes, he did. Thatâs why Demeter stopped doing her job.
  - Sweetness, do you seriously think someone whose name means Bringer of Death could stay in the Underworld against her will?
  - What do you suggest then? - she crossed her arms against her ripped tunic, all knowing smirk on her face.Â
  - I donât know if I should tell you now. - Y/N huffed, lips coming into a pout which made his heart melt at the look. - If you were to tell the story of Persephone and Hades, how would you tell it?
  - I wouldnât because I seemingly donât know. - she had a playful nature to her gaze, a stark contrast to those with whom he spent most of his days with in the Underworld. James took her hand in his like a scene in a Jane Austen movie, slowly pulling her to him. - So whatâs it gonna be?
  - Persephone found the entry to the Underworld and decided to stay because she enjoyed it here. Once Demeter realised her daughter was gone Hades faked the kidnapping story for her because he was hopelessly in love with Persephone.Â
  - What about the nymphs that saw the abduction? How do you explain that?
  - There are some perks to being the God of the Underworld, sweetness.Â
  - Iâm guessing you wonât tell me what those perks are.Â
  - Maybe later, sweetness. You must join me for dinner now.
  - Bucky ... - she picked onto her nails, eyes looking at her shoes. - Whoâs the man next to you in the photo?

Elriel HC // Nose piercing a.k.a Az will do anything to have Elain near // pt 2 Elainâs pov
Just brushing off the rust and getting my keyboard clacking (also violently procrastinating an exam but the world is on fire and I need elriel fluff) I love double pov stuff so I figures it was only fair to see what Elain thought in my last HC.
(not as happppy with this as i was with Az but its 3 am and i h a d to get this outta me)
Part 1
azrielâs pov
Elain pierces Azrielâs nose, as per his request pt 2
¡        The pot was heavier than she had realized.
¡        Elain hoisted the large planter onto the wire stand, huffing as the leaves brushed her face.
¡        They were growing nicely
¡        She relished in the pang of relief that coursed through her.
¡        Ever since the War, ever since she came back, she had been at odds.
¡        Feyre had a life here, and she had been more than welcoming.
¡        But Elain couldnât shake the feeling that she was supposed to do more, be more. Help more by learning.
¡        She had not indulged in her powers much. She didnât want to. All she saw was horrible, dark twisted things.
¡        Little bat babies being snatched away from Feyre, Nestaâs icy anger at everyone through the years, her sisterâs crushing sobs at the war when Rhys stopped breathing-
¡        She shook her head, realizing she was white knuckling the edges of her terra cotta pot, her fingers digging into the soil.
¡        Feyre loved him. And he had loved her enough to come back
¡        Elain hated to admit it but she wanted that too.
¡        She didnât want Rhys, Cauldron no-
¡        And she wanted nothing to do with the man who was complacent in hurting her sister.
¡        Lucien.
¡        She felt that tug, settled deep into her and she shuddered.
¡        Lucien was not hers. And she was okay with it.
¡        But her heart tugged at her again. Not towards the horizon to wherever Lucien had settled.
¡        But back to the Manor.
¡        To him.
¡        His impossible kindness, his deep, unyielding strength. Elain had never seen anything like it.
¡        She could feel the power rolling off those broad shoulders, could feel the sheer force of him and-
¡        Home. Azriel.
¡        The word crashed through her
¡        She shook it off, picking up the watering can with a little too much zeal. When it flew up, unexpectedly light in her hands, she instinctively blocked her face with her hand.
¡        Dammit Elain.
¡        She took a deep breath, angling the can over the edge, forcing her mind to focus on the water.
¡        Not too much, not too far.
¡        She wondered if she was still thinking about the plants.
¡        Once she was done, she sighed.
¡        There was no dodging it. She had to go back inside.
¡        She knew he was there. Knew that as soon as her feet crossed the threshold, she would drift to him, just like her traitorous mind was doing right now. Towards that smile, that soft rumbling voice-
¡        She immediately set foot into the garden. She was going for a walk. It was a few feet but she would do it, because the wandering would keep her outside the house longer.
¡        Away from him, from his pining glances towards Mor.
¡        Elain saw them. She would be an idiot not to.
¡        Her fingers brushed against the flowers gently, the pollen rubbing onto them.
¡        And she felt pathetic. Not being loyal to the man she had been betrothed to, rejecting her mate and pining after someone who was pining after an endlessly beautiful fae female.
¡        She hated that it bothered her. Hated that all she wanted to do was bury her face in his chest and hug him. Hug him hard enough that all the broken pieces of her would fuse together again.
¡        When something poked her finger, she looked down. And realized that in her wanderings, her fingers had stopped caressing the flower and had picked it right off.
¡        Oh no.
¡        Elain sighed. She was supposed to be good at this.
¡        After a beat, she raised her hand and tucked the flower behind her ear. And sighed again. She had to go back inside now. rinsing her hands off at the small sink, she dried them with the towelthat had appeared there one day. She hoped it had been him.
¡        When she crossed the threshold, she heard the gentle murmur of voices. The Males, Mor and her sister.
¡        He was there, she was sure of it.
¡        And just like she had predicted her feet floated towards the door of the sitting room.
¡        She paused outside the doorway.
¡        She couldnât do this, she couldnât do this.
¡        If she stepped inside, it would be rude and unlike her to leave suddenly, she knew sheâd make herself stay.
¡        And spend the night like she always did. Catching glimpses of him out of the corner of his eye, watching that rare smile flit across his, face, seeing his deft hands move as he spoke, that voice like cedar scented velvet-
¡        âI said Iâd like to get my nose pierced. Change up the look a little.â
¡        Elain stepped out of her haze, to realize she had stepped into the door.
¡        Cauldron damn her.
¡        She heard his friend reply, the one who reminded her of fire and flame.
¡        She could still leave, no one had noticed, she could turn around and walk right out-
¡        He spoke again and she was instantly liquid where she stood.
¡        âI just think a nose piercing would look good. Too many tattoos. Iâm almost bored of them.â
¡        Elain loved nose piercings on men. It was such a simple little accessory that many of them would not dream of because it was too much of a hit to their manliness but here he was, talking about getting his nose pierced. And Elain loved it. She hated herself for the fact that the thought of it made her smile. Her cheeks flooded with heat.
¡        This was bad, this was bad-
¡        Right on cue, the male turned to look at her.
¡        His eyes were fixed on her, that tender, soft look that he always had, the one that reduced her to shambles-
¡        Only then did she realized she had spoken.
¡        Mother above, what did she say? She couldnât remember. She couldnât think when he was looking at her, his torso fully turned towards her. There was a drumming in her ears. Was she smiling, why was she smiling at him like that, oh Mother above-
¡        She spoke again, before she could reign it in.
¡        âIf you really want to, I can help.â
¡        There was silence. She could have heard the petals drop outside. Her heart stuttered.
¡        She looked like an idiot. His eyes are wide, Mother above, he thinks youâre insane Elain.
¡        âYou can?â
¡        She dragged her eyes away from him.
¡        A near impossible feat.
¡        And met Morâs.
¡        There was no resentment there, no jealousy. Just a question.
¡        Why did Elain feel exposed?
¡        âI used to help the girls in our village get piercings. And I used to scrounge up some herbs to help with the healing and aftercare.â
¡        Be quiet Elain, please for the love of-
¡        âHow about right now?â
¡        When he spoke, Elain broke out of her daze. She made her eyes refocus on him. On his tan skin, on the little crease above his eyebrow, pulled together just a little. Why did he look at her like that? Like he wanted to reach out to her-
¡        Nonsense. Itâs because she looked like an idiot, thatâs why.
¡        The flower behind her ear came loose and a lock of hair flopped into her face. She brushed at it, sweeping it behind her ear again. She blinked. It took a second for her to form a sentence.
¡        âNow?â it came out almost sharp. She regretted it instantly.
¡        âIf you donât mind, that is.â
¡        How could she mind, how could she ever, ever mind?
¡        Her cheeks flushed again, and she realized she was giving him a smile.
¡        Oh, for crying out loud, why did she look so stupidly happy, heâs going to think somethingâs wrong with her.
¡        âI have some supplies in my room, Iâll get them.â
¡        Before Elain fully realized it, her feet were out the door.
¡        She entered her room, as though she was walking on a cloud. How could she be doing this, offering to pierce the nose of a man she was pining after-
¡        She was not pining.
¡        She was not.
¡        And sheâd prove it.
¡        She would pierce his nose. And that wouldnât mean a thing.
¡        She ignored how the very idea of her near him, her touching his face sent her insides into butterflies-
¡        Where was the little box?
¡        Her hands brushed against it, and she pulled it out from under the pile of things neatly tucked away in her drawer. The folds came undone, the clothes flopped around, some even falling out the edge of the drawer-
¡        She didnât; care. Why didnât she care? Her things were always immaculate.
¡        She had a job to do. Thatâs all. Just a job.
¡        A favour for a friend. She ignored the twisting in her at friend.
¡        She would do it. And thatâs all there would be to it. Nothing more.
¡        When she entered the room, he looked up at her.
¡        And her insides screamed not a friend, not a friend, not a friend-
¡        Oh Mother above, what had she done, she was going to have to touch him-
¡        She placed the box on the table, and focused on breathing as she looked up at him.
¡        Very carefully she spoke, stressing the words.
¡        âDo you want a stud or a hoop?â
¡        He looked up at her, his eyes meeting hers and she swore the world tilted just a bit-
¡        His eyes were soft, questioning.
¡        He looked so soft, yet so hewn, the way the heat from the oven caressed her hands when she pulled out fresh loaves, like the weight of the soil between her fingers-
¡        She gave a small laugh.
¡        Why did she laugh, why was-
¡        His eyes shifted a little. Or Elain was imagining things.
¡        She was imagining things. For sure.
¡        âHere, Iâll help.â Why was it so hard to form a sentence?
¡        She pulled a small hoop from the box, one with flat ends that could be slid on, and a stud with a sticky back.
¡        She always did a good job, she always went the extra mile.
¡        Even when it involved touching him more?
¡        She clamped down on the bubbling question.
¡        For the first time, she realized she had company. She truly had not been able to look at anyone else, not her sister, not the males watching her intently.
¡        She suddenly felt a rush, of self-consciousness and didnât dare look up at anyone else. She was mortified, they were Fae, they could see right through her-
¡        âWhich is your good side?â
¡        Oh cauldron damn her
¡        âReally, Elain?â Cassâs voice rumbled from somewhere in the room, and she put her hands up, defeated.
¡        She was an idiot, they all knew.
¡        âI donât really have a preference, loveâ
¡        Love.
¡        For a minute, for a full minute, Elain forgot how to move, forgot how to breathe-
¡        Love.
¡        He hasnât ever said that to anyone in front of her. Or said it to anyone ever.
¡        Why did he say it to her?
¡        He must have said it to others before. She wracked her brain as she forced herself to step forward. When she reached for him, her hands shook.
¡        âMay I?â
¡        She had forgotten how to talk above a whisper.
¡        She wondered if he even heard her.
¡        âYes.â
¡        And the first brush of her fingertips against his skin sent Elain reeling.
¡        She made herself focus, focus more than when she was weeding, when she was planting, when she was measuring ingredient-
¡        She took a deep breath.
¡        The fragrance of his skin hit her hard.
¡        He smelled of cedar, mist and hints of mint. It was like the spark of a cedar wood fire, as it dulled to a constant, steady glow in the embers.
¡        Mother above, Elain was going to lose her mind-
¡        She slipped the hoop onto his skin.
¡        âOkay, other side.â
¡        She didnât know if she said it out loud. She didnât care. All she wanted to remember was to breathe in, breathe out-
¡        âThis one has a sticky back, you can put it on without having to pierce to see what it looks like.â
¡        He rumbled an âmhmâ in response.
¡        âOkay, now for the mirror.â
¡        Her hand brushed against his when they both reached for it.
¡        This time, she was aware that she laughed.
¡        It was idiotic really, how far gone she felt in this moment-
¡        She watched his profile, the deep cheekbones, the tan skin, the midnight hair.
¡        She pictured her fingers pulling through them
¡        Enough.
¡        âI like the hoop better.â Feyreâs voice cut into the haze.
¡        She looked up to see Mor nodding, examining Azriel, her head to the side. Elain felt that pang again.
¡        âYeah the hoopâs nicer, Azâ
¡        âDoesnât the hoop also help it heal faster?â Rhys spoke, his voice low behind her.
¡        âYeah, the boys at the camps used to use those for their eyebrows.â
¡        But Azâs eyes met hers.
¡        âWhat do you think?â
¡        Her voice was again, just above a whisper. She couldnât even talk to him properly-
¡        âThe hoop.â
¡        Elain picked up the needle.
¡        Usually this would be the hard part. Elain would be very aware that she was about the hurt the person in front of her.
¡        Even if it was just a pinch.
¡        He was a soldier. She knew heâd had worse. But she had to be so careful, so very careful.
¡        It was Azriel.
¡        The needle broke skin. Elain released a shuddering breath she didnât know she was holding. She slipped the ring through, it clicked close.
¡        When she looked back at him, his eyes were scrunched close. Little crows feet appeared at the edges, and she had a sudden, wild temptation to brush at them-
¡        âDid that hurt too much?â
¡        He smiled at her and Elainâs breath shuttered. He didnât smile much.
¡        She realized how much she had come to rely on it, come to trying to make it happen.
¡        âIâm okayâ she sighed in relief.
¡        She couldnât hurt him, she could never-
¡        She had to leave, she had to walk away before she did something truly stupid.
¡        He turned away from her and reached for the mirror. Where she sat she could see the ring, his profile, the warmth of him on her fingertips-
¡        âI like it.â
¡        She could have sworn he stilled when she spoke. And when he turned to look at her, that gentle smile appearing again.
¡        She had to leave, she had to walk away, remember? She could not afford to do any more favours.
¡        When she rose, her feet felt unsteady.
¡        âElain, do you have any of that ointment for the aftercare?â
¡        Elain stilled. Oh she was in trouble-
¡        Just give him the ointment, just donât make any more promises, just the ointment-
¡        âOh, yes. Iâll get some. Iâll help you clean the wound up, okay? It should heal around the hoop soon, Azriel.â
¡        Dammit, dammit, dammit Elain.
¡        âThank you, love.â
¡        Love. There it was again.
¡        The term on his lips would be her undoing.
¡        As she crossed the threshold, she realized she was smiling again.
¡        Mother above, if she was in trouble, might as well fully be in it-
¡        âI always liked nose piercings on men. They look elegant.â
¡        She didnât know if he heard her.
¡        She hoped he did.
¡        He spoke from behind her.
¡        Thank you, love. Iâm glad you like it.â
¡        And, there it was again.Â
¡  When Elain caught sight of herself in the small mirror on the landing, she realized. She still had dirt on her nose.

The Next Best Thing Chapter 11
Sleepover fun! Credit for all the good ideas goes to @afretfulporpentine, like theyâre literally all down to her!
**
Anne takes her into the playroom which is all decorated with balloons and streamers- itâs just them, because Anneâs dad is at work and Anneâs Mum is Busy and Mary has gone to her Group with baby Catherine.Â
Group, according to Anne, is where you have to go if you have a baby so you can talk to other people who have had babies- or, in her case, if your big sister has had a baby and Jane isnât there to look after you because she has to go to her job, which is sometimes stacking boxes on shelves in Sainsburys and sometimes listening to people shout because their parcel wasnât delivered on time.Â
(Jane does not like her job much.)
All the people at Group are young (like Mary) and they all look a bit tired (also like Mary), and their babies all look more or less like Baby Catherine too, except that Baby Catherine has nicer clothes and newer toys that make the other girls look at her and Mary out of the corners of their eyes in a not-very-nice way.
At Group- says Anne- sometimes you sit in a circle and take turns crying and other times, you sit in a circle and lie about whether or not your baby can sit up yet or not and how much sleep youâre getting, unless youâre Anne, which means sitting on the floor at the side and playing Candy Crush on Maryâs phone.
Anne says itâs all very boring but that Mary brought her a McFlurry on the way home the first time so it was mostly worth it. Â
(The second time, Anne pointed out that Baby Catherine wasnât really sitting up by herself âjust that morningâ. She didnât get a McFlurry that time.)
Itâs nice, not having to have Anneâs Mum and Dad there, because it means Cathy doesnât have to talk to them about how school is going or worry about Manners or be scared sheâs going to do something Wrong, like when she was invited for lunch and it had been a proper lunch at the table and Anneâs Dad kept looking at her while she was eating and shaking his head and Anneâs Mum kept twitching like there was a fly on her and she was a restless horse.
It had made her so nervous that sheâd barely been able to taste her food because she couldnât work out what sheâd done wrong- her elbows definitely werenât on the table and she couldnât possibly be talking with her mouth full because she wasnât saying anything because Anneâs Dad likes to hear himself think.
The whole thing was so tense that it was almost a relief when Anneâs Mum eventually turned to her, frowning like she had a headache.
âWe like to use our knife and fork properly in this house, Cathy.â
She hadnât understood what she meant until Anne nudged her and she realised that everyone else was holding their fork in their left rather than their right hands.
(She hadnât known it was wrong until then.)
Her face had gone all hot and sheâd quickly switched hands and done her best to eat the rest of her food like that, but eating with her left hand made her clumsy and when Anneâs Mum winced when she accidentally spilled a forkful of couscous into her lap, sheâd nearly cried.
She hadnât been allowed to go over to play at Anneâs house for weeks after sheâd told her Mum and Dad about it, so sheâd stopped telling them anything much about Anneâs house at all.
(She wonders if sheâll need to be careful what she tells Catalina.)
Once theyâre in the playroom, she drops her rucksack on the floor and thrusts her parcel into Anneâs hands.
âOpen it!â
âWhat is it? No wait, I want to guess!â
âYou'll never guess!â (She knows Anne wonât be able to guess.)
âBet I will!â
Anne immediately starts shaking it, listening to see if it rattles and it makes Cathy very relieved that she and Catalina packed it all so carefully.
âI picked all of it out myself, and I picked the wrapping paper and ribbon too- Catalina helped with some of it but it was my idea!â
Anne examines the outside, pokes the dinosaurs, giggling, and then strokes the green ribbon lovingly.
âThis is so cool- Iâm going to save it and have Jane tie it onto my ponytail when she next does my hair...âÂ
This is an excellent idea and Cathy is just wondering if Catalina could be persuaded to stop by the craft shop one more time so that she can see if they have any blue ribbon for her own ponytail- when Anne puts down the parcel unopened.
She feels a little sting- is Anne bored of it before sheâs even seen what it is?
âArenât you going to open it?â
âWhen Annaâs here.â Anne starts sorting through the pile on unwrapped presents in the corner, hunting for something.
âOh no, Anne, open it now-â
âI will when Annaâs here, I said!â
âPlease-â
Itâs the magic word but it isnât always very magic and now is one of those times because Anne just shakes her head.
âNo, I want to wait for Anna!â Anne picks up the parcel again and hugs stubbornly it to her chest. âAnd itâs my birthday so Iâm going to open it when I want and I want to wait.â
She canât argue with that. The âItâs My Birthdayâ rule is inviolable, she knows, which is annoying because sheâd quite like to be able to argue.
She isnât sure if she really likes the idea of Anna seeing the present she got for Anne.Â
It had seemed like such a good idea when Catalina suggested it.
(She knows that telling Anne she came up with it was a tiny untruth but Catalina had just laughed when sheâd anxiously asked if Anne would mind it not being her idea.Â
âIt doesnât really matter, mija. Itâs an excellent present, no matter who came up with it.â
âBut-â
âIf it bothers you, you can tell her it was your idea if you like.â
Cathy eyed her suspiciously.
âWill you really, really not mind?â
Catalina kissed the top of her head.
 âI really, really wonât mind.â)
The shopping trip to find Anne a present had been long- theyâd spent the whole morning looking through shop after shop until Cathyâs feet felt ready to fall off and sheâd been sure she was going to drop to the floor in exhaustion.
Just as she was ready to despair, Catalina had said that they should take a break and led the way to a Starbucks, a welcome bit of quiet after the noise and bustle of town.
âLet's try to plan a bit before we brave the masses again.â Catalina stirred her hazelnut latte while Cathy worked on spooning every last bit of froth from the top of her hot chocolate. âWhat does Anne like?â
âLots of things. But she has it all already.â
Cathy knew she wasnât being unhelpful but she didnât feel like being helpful, she was too tired to be helpful.
âShe canât have everything, mija.â
âWell, she does.â She rolled the marshmallow around between her fingers, enjoying the sponginess, until Catalina raised an eyebrow and she reluctantly let it drop into her mug.
âWhat sort of games do you play together? Maybe we could get her something to go with one of your games?â
Cathy had started to explain that they didnât do expansion packs or accessory kits for the games she and Anne liked to play- and Catalina had just shrugged.
âWhy not?â
She hadnât been able to answer.
The second part of the shopping trip was much more fun.Â
Theyâd made a list on the back of a paper napkin of all the things that one should put in an accessory kit for Inca Princess Burial and then made a thorough search of all the little poky second hand shops to find just the right things.
The embalming sheets and the embalming lotion just came from Asda, which was boring, but the wax grape âofferingsâ and the candles that worked with batteries and the bright silky Priestess robe came from little shops that smelt of dust and old books.Â
The flowers came from the big stack of plastic flowers in the Poundshop- Catalina explained theyâd last better than real flowers- and that night, she and Catalina had woven them into a beautiful big flower crown that was surely worthy of any princess, Inca or otherwise.
Sheâs sure Anne will love it but she isnât sure she wants Anna to see it: what if Anna thinks itâs silly?Â
After all, to explain it, theyâll have to explain Inca Princess Burial, and what if Anna thinks the whole game sounds babyish and stupid?Â
She had hoped that Anne would be able to open her present, just the two of them (and that maybe theyâd even have time for a quick game before Anna even arrived) but Anne isnât budging and it IS her birthday, so she pushes the worry away as much as she can and lets Anne show her the birthday card that George sent.
When Anne pulls it out from its hiding place, she thinks it doesnât exactly count as a birthday card because itâs not a âbirthdayâ birthday card.Â
It doesnât say Happy Birthday anywhere on it, there isnât a badge with Anneâs age on, thereâs no glitter or really anything birthdayish about it at all.
Really, itâs only a card because itâs a postcard, with a picture thatâs of some funny looking figures carved in stone wearing beads and headdresses and not very much else at all and as funny as that is, it isnât really a birthday sort of picture.
The card also wasnât even sent to Anne, it was sent to her parents, so itâs not for Anneâs birthday really, it just happened to arrive on the right day.
Anne says she rescued it from the bin when her Mum wasnât looking and that sheâs not going to show this one to Jane to read to her- sheâs going to read it herself because now sheâs eight and thatâs too old to be read to and besides, Jane leaves bits out, which is ok when itâs just changing the end of Kittyâs old copy of Millions of Cats so that the cats in the story run away rather than eating each other, but most definitely not ok when itâs something important like a real postcard.
(Cathy wonders if Catalina knows that eight is too old to be read to. She hopes that they at least finish Little Women before her birthday.)
She doesnât say any of this to Anne though.
She keeps the unbirthdayishness of the card to herself, and when Anne shows her the important bit- the bit at the bottom thatâs written more clearly than the rest, the bit that says âRock on, little sis. Peace and love from your big bro in Londonâ- she agrees with Anne that that bit at least was worth saving the card for.
They pass the card back and forth, trying to decipher the rest of Georgeâs scrawly writing.Â
Anneâs so far made out âFrancisâ- Jane calls him Georgeâs special friend and Anneâs Dad calls him âthat one who got him into this bloody ridiculousness in the first placeâ- and Cathy has made out âunderstandâ and âbusyâ- when the doorbell rings, and they both jump up and run to let Anna in.
She canât help but feel excited as she races Anne to the door because- although she still isnât sure that sheâs glad Anna was invited too, having her arrive also makes everything feel more special.
Now it feels like the birthday party part of things has actually begun and now rather than it just being her and Anne playing together like usual, itâs a proper sleepover party.
Anna arrives with her present in one hand (a shiny red gift bag with little string handles) and her overnight bag (smart blue duffle bag) in the other.Â
âHappy birthday Anne!â
âYou came!â
Annaâs Mum gives her a kiss and tells Anne Happy Birthday in her funny accent and then she looks past Anne and Cathy like sheâs expecting to see someone else.
âYour mother, she is at home, yes?â
Anne nods.
âSheâs busy.â
âAh-â
Annaâs Mum hesitates. âI was hoping I might say hello to her-â
Anne looks uncertain. âI could- go and get her-â
Cathy wonders whatâs going to happen- Anneâs Mum always gets cross when they interrupt her, even when it was because the man at the door needed her to sign something so that he could leave her parcel- and there are some rooms Anne isnât even meant to knock on the door of and what if sheâs in one of those roomsâŚ..?
But luckily Anna interrupts things.
âMutti, Iâll be fine!â She huffs a bit as she says it, stretching out the last word into two syllables like itâs chewing gum. âPlease! You donât need to say hello!â
Annaâs Mum looks into the (empty) hall and then back at her daughter.Â
âWellâŚ. Is she very busy? I suppose I wouldnât like to disturb herâŚ.â
âYes! Yes!â Anna looks ready to push her Mum out of the door. âSheâs very, very, very busy! Busier than Vati!â
Annaâs Mum laughs. âAlright then, liebling. You have the new telephone number?â
âJa! Yes!â
âOk. Be a good girl. Do everything Anneâs Mutti tells you.â
She says the last bit a little uncertainly, like she is only now just wondering if Anneâs Mutti will be there to tell them anything at all- but at last she goes, and Anne tugs Anna into the house and towards the playroom.
Annaâs looking all around her as they go up to put her bag in Anneâs playroom and Cathy wonders why before she remembers that Anna hasnât seen Anneâs house before so she isnât used to how it has more rooms than most houses and how everything is extra shiney or extra fragile or both.
As they walk up the stairs, Anna asks Anne where her Mutti is, and if sheâs really at home, and Anne looks like sheâs surprised Anna is asking.
âSheâs here. Somewhere around.â
âDonât you know?â
âSheâs busyâ Anne shrugs. âItâs better if she is, it means she wonât make us be quiet or do a jigsaw-â
(Cathy has experienced Anneâs Mums jigsaws before. Itâs always the same one, with a stupid picture of a rabbit and a kitten in a basket, and she makes them do it whenever theyâre being too loud or playing something she doesnât like. She always says it was her favourite as a little girl and it makes Cathy wonder just how boring Little-Girls-Anneâs-Mum was.)
Anna just blinks back, all confused by the absence of parental figures and Cathy thinks that sheâll get used to it soon enough.
In the playroom, Anne wants first of all to show them her best present.
Itâs a bit awkward when she pulls them out from the pile of gifts at first because they just look like a pair of trainers.
Anne says that Jane found them in the British Heart Foundation shop, and Cathy thinks sheâd be able to tell even if Anne hadnât said anything because the green suede is a bit worn-shiney, and even though theyâve obviously been cleaned up and scrubbed to look new, the insides are still a long way for the snowy-white of proper new shoes.
The glittery rainbow laces threaded through them are new (paid for by Jane but picked out by Kitty as her contribution to Anneâs present) and theyâre even quite pretty, but still, itâs not a very exciting gift.
Cathy thinks itâs a shame that a boring pair of shoes is Anneâs best present, and sheâs very glad that she got her something more fun to make up for it.
Sheâs just trying to think up all the nice things that Catalina would know to say about Anneâs birthday present shoes so that she wonât feel sad about them when Anne sighs like she and Anna are missing something obvious, then turns them over and shows them both the little wheels in the soles and suddenly they go from being just boring old trainers to being very exciting and cool, especially when they take turns trying them on and gliding across the playroom floor.
Theyâre even better than roller skates Cathy thinks- because really you can only wear roller skates to the park or in the street, unfortunately.Â
(She knows this because Catalina has made her feelings about wearing roller skates inside the flat very clear and plain, even though she didnât break a single thing when she tried out her skates in the hall. When she pointed this out, Catalina just shook her head firmly and said she had no interest in tempting fate, whatever that means, and from now on, skates are only to be worn outside. Itâs a very boring rule.)
Anneâs wheelie shoes though look just like normal shoes which means she could wear them anywhere and the possibilities makes her breathless.
Anna says that if they were in Germany, Anne could wear them to school because they donât have to wear uniforms- and Cathy barely even has time to be annoyed at Anna for bringing up Germany yet again because the idea of Anne wearing the shoes to school on a mufti day is brilliant.
Anne agrees and then they all try to remember if they have a mufti day coming up or not.
Annoyingly, they donât (at least, none of their parents have done the sigh-groan-that- school-always-asking-for-money moan that accompanies most mufti days), so they make a Plan that on Monday, theyâll all suggest to their teacher that perhaps it would be nice to raise money for the poor sick children or the poor sick puppies or the poor sick old people or the poor sick hedgehogs or the poor sick something else.
The sneaky part is that theyâll all make sure to make it look as if itâs something theyâve only just thought of themselves, and surely their teacher will be so surprised that all the children are wanting to raise money at the same time that sheâll say yes to a mufti day at once.
(It is an excellent Plan.)
They glide around on the shoes until theyâre dizzy (and a little bit bruised from attempts at rolling on just one foot) and then Anna asks Anne what her parents got her.
Cathy is excited to hear what it is, because Anneâs presents from her parents are usually very excitingâŚ.but when Anne shows it to them, itâs just a doll.
Not that thereâs anything wrong with dolls per se.Â
Actually, Cathy thinks that Anneâs doll is rather nice- it looks like the sort of doll from a story about a little Victorian girl, the sort of doll thatâs almost too pretty to touch.
It has long, perfect curls of blonde hair and tiny leather shoes with little pearl buttons and cream stockings and a cream silk dress and a cloak trimmed with real white fur.
Itâs beautiful, beautiful, and she opens her mouth to ask Anne if she can hold her...but before sheâs even asked, she changes her mind.
The doll is far too pretty to be held after all, and sheâd hate to mess her up somehow, especially seeing as itâs Anneâs birthday present.
Anna is a bit braver, but even she holds the doll awkwardly when Anne hads her over, as if sheâs scared of dropping her, the way Anne looked when she was allowed to hold Baby Catherine once, and soon she hands it back to Anne, who lies it down very carefully indeed.
âSheâs- prettyâŚ..â
âYeah.â Anne sounds distinctly unenthusiastic.Â
âShe looks really expensive.â
âYeah.â Anne sounds even more disconsolate. âMummy keeps on telling her that she was and she says I have to be really careful with her because she can break very easily.â
They all eye the doll, as if she might crack under their very gaze but she stays reassuringly whole, for the moment anyway.
âShe says Iâll be in big trouble if I break her so I have to be really really careful because sheâs fragile.â
âCan you play with her?â Anna asks and Anne shrugs. âMummy says yes and that Daddy will be really sad if I donât because he picked her out but I donât know how I can. Sheâs tooâŚ..fancy.âÂ
Anna and Cathy and Anne devote the next few minutes to trying to think of a way for Anne to play with her present but itâs difficult: normal games for dolls like Victorian Orphanage wonât work, and games like Witches definitely wonât work.Â
Her clothes wonât come off, even her hair canât be brushed because of her ringlets, and her dress is so clean and pristine that itâs obvious immediately that it will show up every speck of dust or dirt.
She is, overall, quite a disappointment of a doll, and it makes Cathy glad that her own dolls are reassuringly sturdy and well up to being dropped, thrown and smeared with pretend red-smartie blood, as the game might require.
Itâs all very trickyâŚ..and eventually Anne says they can think about it later and that she wants to open Cathyâs present.
She doesâŚ.and thereâs a silence as Anne picks out and unshells the little individually wrapped parcels.
Anne looks at them.
Anna looks at them.
Cathy looks at her knees.
She thinks about the lotion, the robe, the candles in their box- and about how, helping Catalina wrap them in tissue paper last night, they looked beautiful- but now, lying on the carpet, they lookâŚ.just normal.Â
Even a bit tatty- suddenly she can see the loose threads from the cut up sheet, she can see where the robe has gone bobbly from being washed.
She wants to sweep the things up and hide them back in the box before Anne or Anna can laugh at them (she wonders if she should pretend that it was a mistake, to say that of course these arenât Anneâs REAL presents) but she canât. She canât move or say anything or do anything other than sit there and burn with embarrassment and wish with all her might that sheâd just got the colourful felt pens Catalina had suggested in the first shop.
Tentatively, Anne leans over to examine the bottle of lotion. She holds it close to her eyes and brightens.
âItâs glittery!â
Cathy nods (itâs what finally convinced her to get the lotion to be embalming oils rather than the multi-pack of lip balms that actually HAD balm in the title).
 âItâŚ.it smells of strawberries tooâŚ.â
Her voice trails off- she canât say anything else without crying but Anne doesnât notice, sheâs trying to sound out the words on the label Catalina carefully hand lettered and stuck to the bottle the night before.
âEm- ball- Em- Balling⌠Lotion-â Suddenly her face clears of confusion and she beams.Â
âCathy! Itâs embalming lotion!â
She looks so happy and excited that Cathy can only nod.
âAnd-â Anne sifts through the box with new interest. âBandages- and candles! And-â
She picks up the wax grapes.
âOfferings!â They say together, and now she knows itâs alright, Anne does like it, and everything is ok and she hasnât ruined the sleepover- and sheâs so relieved sheâs almost forgotten Anna is there too until Anna asks what offerings are.
Anne rolls her eyes like itâs a silly question- which is really a bit unfair because they didnât know what offerings were until they learnt about the Inca Princesses last year and maybe Anna hasnât had anyone to tell her yet.Â
âTheyâre what you bury with the princess so she doesnât curse you!â
âPrincess?â Anna looks confused and Cathy can tell sheâs thinking of other princesses, of Rapunzel and Cinderella and Belle with their big dresses and pink-lipped smiles, who couldnât rain down a curse if their life depended on it.
âNot those princesses!â She explains. âInca princesses- from-â She tries to say it properly, since itâs easy to twist her tongue over the word. âThe Incan Empire.â
Anna still looks a bit confused so she and Anne do their best to explain about offerings and sacrifices and people living hundreds of years ago in a place called Peru.
âOh!â Anna looks like she understands and Cathy sort of hopes it will stop there but then- âSo how do you play Inca Princess?â
She sounds like she actually wants to know so Cathy lets Anne explain.
â-and then she gets embalmed and entombed and then you make offerings to her to appease her angry spiritâŚ..it was Cathyâs idea!â Anne finishes and she wonders if Anne is saying that so that Anna will only judge her for playing baby games and not Anne- but instead Anna looks at her with a smile that is definitely not a smirk and her eyes open wide.
âCathy! That sounds like a fantastich game!âÂ
It feels funny to have Anna looking at her like sheâs so clever- funny but also nice but also a bit embarrassing too.Â
âAnne came up with the idea of removing her brain through her nose like the Egyptiansâ is all she can say, and Anne sends her a grateful look when Anna gasps like thatâs the best thing sheâs ever heard of.
âDo you think it would work with three people?â
Anne shakes her head. âWe tried to make Kitty play with us and she ruined it-â
âShe wasnât any good-â
(It had been a real disappointment, Cathy thinks, because Kitty is usually quite willing to take whatever part of the game they need her for, as long as Pink Kitty is allowed to accompany her.Â
She has been a Dead Body in Business Woman Detective, and a Vampire Bat in Vampire Barbie- a black cocktail napkin had served well as Pink Kittyâs wings, but when they tried making Kitty help entomb Anne, she just wailed that she didnât want Anne to be buried like a dead person, and when they tried to show her that entombing really didnât hurt at all, she cried until Jane heard and came to investigate.
The game ended with the un-entombed Inca Princess sniffling in Janeâs lap and being soothed with an illicit Jammy Dodger, while the tragically biscuitless Inca Priestesses were told quite firmly to be more gentle in the future and to find something else to play, which was not a satisfactory end to the game at all.)
âOh.â Anna droops and then Cathy realises what she meant.
She opens her mouth, just as Anne is already speculating that while the game didnât work with three people when the third person was Kitty, maybe it would just fine if the third person was someone elseâŚ.
It turns out not only does Anna NOT think that Inca Princess Burial is babyish at all, itâs a game she really wants to try for herself and theyâre well into setting up the burial ground, having settled the argument over who should wear the robe first (Anne because itâs her birthday, Cathy because she brought it all or Anna because this is her first time ever even getting to play) when Anneâs Mum pokes her head into the playroom to check on them.
âAlright in here, girls?â
âYes thank you Mummy.â
âYes thank you Mrs Bullen-â
âItâs Boleyn now, Cathy dear!â Anneâs Mum reminds her with a tight smile, and Cathy wishes she could explain that itâs actually really very tricky to learn a whole new name for someone when theyâve been Anne Bullen since Reception and that no matter how many angry letters Anneâs Mum sends to the school about teachers getting it wrong, itâs hard to make her mouth say Boleyn when her mind says Bullen.
Instead, she settles for a meek âSorry, Mrs Boleynâ and is rewarded with a little nod of forgiveness.
âAre you having a nice time?â
âYes thank you Mummy.â
Anne smiles beatifically from beneath her flower crown but Anneâs Mum frowns.
âWhat on earth are you all up to?â
âJust...playing. Arenât we?â
Cathy and Anna nod and try to look well behaved.
âWhatâs all this rubbish everywhere?â
Cathy wonders what she means- and then Anneâs Mum picks up the offerings with a dainty thumb and forefinger and then she realises and it feels horrible.
Anneâs Mum thinks her present is rubbish.Â
Anne fidgets a bit. âJust part of the game, Mummy. Weâll clear it up before we go to bed, wonât we?â
Cathy and Anna nod again and Anneâs Mum purses her lips.Â
âAlright. Although I donât see why youâre not playing with your birthday presentâŚ. Your father worked very hard to be able to afford it, you know, and heâd be very sad if he heard you werenât gratefulâŚâ
Anneâs looking so sad and uncomfortable that Cathy can hardly bear it- she knows that in Anneâs house, the crime of being ungrateful sometimes leads to lots of unpleasant things like early bedtime and no dessert and how can you go to bed early and have no dessert at a birthday sleepover?
She isnât sure whether to stay quiet or to speak up and say sheâs sorry for getting Anne a present thatâs gotten her into trouble- but before she can even decide one way or the other, Anna interrupts with a big beaming smile, like everything is fine and nothing is wrong at all and no one is nearly crying.
âOh we were playing with her, Mrs Boleyn! She is such a lovely doll, Anne is so lucky- we just put her down to keep her safe for this bit of the game. So she wouldnât get broken or hurt.â
Anna is looking like one of the choir children at Catalinaâs church, all sweet and good and perfect, and miraculously, Anneâs Mum actually smiles back.
âShe is lovely- and I suppose itâs sensible to put her to the side if youâre playing something more boisterousâŚ. Just make sure youâre careful!â
âOh we will be!â
âGood goodâŚ..â
Anneâs Mum waves a hand at them and goes back out and itâs as if the whole room lets out a breath.
Cathy wonders how Anna knew to do quick thinking like that, how she knew what to say- even Anne doesnât know how to say the right thing to make her Mum smile like that at herâŚ.but Anna doesnât seem like she was having to make an effort, like knowing the right thing to say to make things better comes to her naturally, like how reading is easy for Cathy and French is easy for Anne.
And things are better- sort of.Â
Anne doesnât seem to be in trouble any more at least, which is good.
Still, thereâs a moment after the door closes when everything feels a bit flat- like the game is a balloon and the word ârubbishâ is a pin and now all the fun and special feeling is leaking awayâŚ.Â
But then Anna mutters darkly that the Inca Princess will surely rise up to rain curses upon any silly person who dares to insult her offerings, and they have such fun coming up with curses and acting them out that they forget all about everything that isnât toads raining from the sky and food that turns mouldy before you can take even one bite.
Then Anna wonders if maybe the Inca Princess would be angry enough that she might even rise up from the grave to wreck revenge and itâs such a good idea that Cathy doesnât have time to even think about whether or not her present was a good idea because sheâs too busy trying to help Anna subdue the wrathful Inca princess.
(She canât help but think the game really is better with three.)

Hiya! Big Thx for answering to my last request. I was really curious what would be Starish and QN's reaction if their s/o was an artist and asked to paint them naked and the reaction after they see the painting. Thank you a lot. (btw, im sorry u got sunburned, hope u r better :)) )
Its people like you that keep me going by being nice đ so thanks BB I'm fine. It hurt the first couple days but my skin's calming down a lot. And I'm always happy to answer :3Â hope this is okay!
Warning: slight NSFW. Nothing graphic but if you're sensitive to that, don't read.Â
STARISH + QUARTET NIGHT reacting to being painted naked by their s/oÂ
Natsuki:Â
When you first brought it up, he honestly felt kind of self conscious? He's a big guy so the painting would take a while and it made him blush to think about being naked in front of you for that long, even if you've seen him naked before. However, halfway through the session he calms down and starts to relax, joking, and even commenting on how you should paint both of you together sometime, which will just get him scolded because he's supposed to be still! Once the painting is finished and he sees it, all he can do was stare in awe. You captured everything so perfectly!!! Honestly just amazed at how you can get the painting to look so real and won't stop complimenting for days.Â
Tokiya:Â
Not shy per se, but uncomfortable at first. Sure you guys have seen each other naked, plenty of times! But this is like⌠you staring at him for hours on end and he can't even (make a) move. If you pester him enough though, he'll agree with a sigh and oblige. Don't ask him to smile though because his face doesn't work like that. But that's okay ??? Because the serious look he has on in the painting, with his hand just barely hovering over his package has him staring at himself for hours after the painting is done. Honestly finds himself so hot in the painting and might ask you to make another one.Â
Cecil:Â
Draw me like one of your french girls #1. Agrees immediately. Anything for his princess! Strips in such a way that you almost don't want to just paint him anymore. The whole process takes an entire day though because he just. Wont. Shut. Up. You have to remind him that paintings are quiet and dont speak, but that doesnt stop him. Reminds you that he's very tan and the tattoo on his chest has to be just right since its a special symbol from his country. Honestly annoys you half the time, but the painting turns out so good. You even put some fruit and velvet accessories around him to try and emphasize on him and his heritage and God those grapes barely covering his cock really bring it out⌠10/10 approves.Â
Ren:Â
Draw me like one of your french girls #2. Already stripping before you finish your sentence, but also orders you to strip and paint naked because "I can't be the only one being stared at when i have such a goddess in front of me." You reluctantly agree, though his stare makes you almost mess up a couple times and oh my god the comments he dashes out and the things he says he will do to you after ward have you squirming in place. Ren might be a model with the body of a God but he's playing dirty. But the finished painting? Beautiful. And he says that too. Also says that now whenever he's gone, you'll have something to pleasure yourself to ;)Â
Otoya:Â
Blushes and almost passes out. Studders out an answer about how embarrassing that is and why would you want that and omg he's hyperventilating. You have to calmly reassure him that it's just a painting and it won't hurt him. No one else will see it because it will be in you guys' bedroom, or bathroom if he finds that safer. Gives in at some point because he doesn't want to disappoint you and lays down on the couch, completely red. You almost couldnt differentiate between his face and his hair and at some point his thoughts began to wander and uh oh now he's hard. But that's okay because it makes for that much more of a good painting. When he sees it, he's still embarrassed but also amazed by your artistic ability. Still makes you promise that it will go somewhere where no one sees it.Â
Syo:Â
Literally shrieks when you bring it up to him. You want what? Why? How? Are you gonna sell it? Has so many questions. You have to reassure him, much like Otoya, that no one else sees it and he'll agree to it. Is also blushing during the session but his is more like a soft pink hue and he tries so hard to keep his thoughts under control. Asks for at least some props to take some of the attention away from him and so you tell him to take out his violin. Have you ever seen a naked man with his violin? No? Have you ever seen a wet artist? Now you have. Both of you were so amazed with the outcome that it was almost cringe. Asks to have it in the bedroom so he can admire himself and also your skills.Â
Masato:Â
LMAO have fun convincing him. Least likely of all to be comfortable with this and it will take forever for him to get there. However, if you tell him he can wear his Yukata to cover up some of his skin, like it being draped around his shoulders or hanging over one of his legs, he might be more willing. He just doesnt like to see all of himself naked so at least respect that aspect. Also demands you make him melon bread after this. Is also a blushing mess during the session, worse than otoya even and you have to remind him to breathe every once in a while because youre genuinely scared he might pass out. Once the painting is done, though, he will actually be shook. He looks so good? And might he even say, sexy? Is this really him? Plz give this boy some love ;-;Â
Reiji:Â
Draw me like one of your french girls #3. Much like Ren, he's also stripping and trying out different poses. Want his butt in the air? His dick hard and erect? A hand sliding down his happy trail? Honestly tries to make this more of a porno than it has to be. Also demands some sexy time for his "hard work of sitting there doing nothing when you can stare at his naked glory for as long as you want" poor Reiji pulls the pouty lip and all and its honestly cute so you agree. You have him lay on the couch, hands crossed behind his head and his legs spread open, one popped up on the couch and the other steady on the floor. The finished result? Puts Michaelangelo to shame. At least according to reiji. Kisses your neck as he admires your art and kindly reminds you that even though he's the painting, you still have to pay your debt.Â
Ranmaru:Â
Draw me like one of your french girls #4. Honestly so not opposed to the idea at all. Has so much confidence going into this and is hella smug about it. However, once he actually has been against the red velvet pillows with a leather gloved finger between his teeth for twenty minutes or so, he starts to blush. Didnt realize you had to stare at him for this long and though he's comfortable being naked in front of you, he still feels a little too watched under your gaze. On the other hand, you were patting your own shoulder because oh my lord your man is hot. Leather is his thing. You can feel yourself being turned on by your own idea and when you see your finished painting you stare at it in awe for so long that Ranmaru becomes worried. Asks if its wrong, if it was the wrong angle, etc⌠but when he sees it for himself, he gets that smug grin back on his face. "Damn babe. I look hot."Â
Camus:Â
Knows you can paint well. Has all the confidence in the world. Totally down to do this. But "Don't waste his time" and "I'm expecting you to capture all of me in all my glory" has you kind of scared to mess up. Camus is beautiful and he knows it. Wont settle for less. You have him sprawled out on his silk bed, a hand resting against the side of his head and a book as a prop, gently laid against the upper side of his chest. You call it "sophisticated grace". But oh dear Camus knows exactly what he's doing and he's purposefully giving you the bedroom eyes during the whole session, his crystal blues covered by a dark lust. You take in a deep breath a couple of times and wonder if you can actually last through this without jumping on him, but you do and once you're done, Camus comes up behind you and analyzes the painting like it's the most important thing on this planet. He doesn't say anything though and it has you worried that he doesnt like it and saw too many flaws but the next thing you feel is his hot breath against your neck and his low voice whispering in your ear, "I believe you deserve payment for this."Â
Ai:Â
Confused? Why would you want to paint him? Humans are weird. He's so cute and innocent and it almost makes you giggle. He agrees to it though because he's interested in how you'd capture him and so he poses for you in one of the white, deep seated chairs that's in the corner of your living room. His skin is flawless and the early morning sun is at just the right angle, coming through the window that it makes his whole being glow up golden. It's better than the sistine Chapel. It's divine and you blush at the thought of this being your man. So catches that of course, and smiles to himself. He feels a sense of pride that you chose him for such an...intimate painting and he's sure to properly thank you later. The finished product has him in awe. He looks so good? Like an angel. And he thanks you with a deep kiss for making him look like that.

10 Christmas Gifts âfor herâ if youâre completely clueless
Since it's apparently time to start thinking about that time of year I thought I'd jump on and attempt to give you some help in an attempt to sparkâ some ideas. Whether you're using this list for ideas for your other half, your mum or sister, or even if you are that person that likes something on this list why don't you send it over as a wee hint... the irony of this is that I've banned my boyfriend from looking at this list as there's a few spoilers on here for his gifts! (Hope he enjoys a wee eyeshadow paletteđŹ).
So letâs start...
1. AIRPODS
I'm sure this will be a big gift this year and a perfect gift if you know they'll be getting a new phone or laptop! Perfect for a music lover or just the person that always needs to have the next big thing! I'd recommend planning to get a pair of these bad boys from Amazon or Currys during the Black Friday sale.
2. STUDIO LIGHT
A gift my mum got me unexpectedly a few years back and I haven't looked back. Not just for the MUA or photography student in your life but even just for every day make up application and I know my friends always use mine for checking their outfits or taking selfies before a night out! I've shown in the product photo how you can get a full sized one or a desk sized one easily on Amazon, your choice. Along this line would also be a Hollywood mirror, the big vanity mirrors with the bright lights installed but they can be hard to source as they're so popular and you need to make sure they're the bright studio lights. Top tip would just be to check the dimensions so you know what you're getting.

3. POLAROID CAMERA
I wanna say this is a cult favourite. I don't know many girls who don't have one of these now but if your gift recipient is one of them then it'd be a great gift! They're a great idea for Christmas, birthdays and anniversaries because it means you can capture the memories and of course ironically take a photo of the polaroid with your phone and post it to Instagram!! They come in a variety of colours and you can purchase accessories and refillable polaroid packs for other special occasions after, making it the gift that keeps on giving.

4. VINYL PLAYERS
Another gift that keeps on giving. If they're a real music lover and always have Spotify going in their room, and with the lack of concerts this year, this would be a very thoughtful gift. You can get these lads pretty cheap on Amazon or fork out for the pricey ones from UO. The only downside is that the actual Vinyl records themselves is where this gifts will cost you the most, but at least you'll always have an idea for next years present.

5. FOREVER ROSES
Now these guys can be quite boujee and I remember them being really popular a few years ago. If you type 'forever roses' into google or, probably better yet, Instagram you'll get a lot of companies selling gift sets of these specially preserved roses that can last for years. An incredibly romantic and surprising gift, this one can cost you big bucks but if you shop around enough you can get single roses for around ÂŁ20 or major bunches for a few hundred but it's sure to win you major brownie points.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ad351867762123fc4c2870ed42a416da/8a2fedd3a3ff7528-ae/s540x810/e29671a1b82f6c8d3c4aad99c1660fcb86522421.jpg)
6. LUSH
This is the standard gift and perfect for a Christmas Eve bath. If you couldn't come up with this present on your own then please pay close attention to this blog because oh buddy you will need it! There are so many gift boxes to choose from at Lush and the great thing is you can't go wrong with any of them. Not to worry if you don't have a bath too because I also have you covered with these Lush sprays which are sooo good that you won't need to work out what their favourite perfume is for the third year in a row. (Also a great brand to support for its morals which is a bonus!!)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/592c0404421d4ee08c24132fd5ed25a2/8a2fedd3a3ff7528-e2/s640x960/9d4e30ff3b86a7609ec226ecc2a1088cff0070e4.jpg)
7. BLANKETS
Not only perfect for those cosy Winter and lockdown nights but also a great home decor item that is so popular on Instagram! These massive knit blankets can get incredibly pricey online, ranging from 20ish quid for a tiny one to a few hundred for the massive ones, so if you're willing to pay that then go ahead but top tip is to have a look in Home Bargains because they had these guys in all year for ÂŁ25 and even Primark Home had a few in recently but I'd get ahead of the game for this one before they sell out...
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/bed83122c4011a5d1555fb7372f6a22f/8a2fedd3a3ff7528-6d/s640x960/3e4cbf8c8ad746788b534c70aeaa0f486b94571b.jpg)
8. JEWELLERY
Now I'm not a massive jewellery fan myself but some girls just go ga-ga for a princess ring. If you're wondering if your girlfriend/sister/daughter is one of them you can identify these people by their less-than-subtle 'just gonna post this here xx' social media posts sharing the Pandora sales. I know most boys get scared to choose jewellery in case the person 'doesn't like it' blah blah but chances are unless they've told you somethng they specifically want or you've been missing some massive hints (ie. ring photos 'accidentally' sent to you) then they'll appreciate literally anything you choose. It's the idea you've went and chosen something specifically for them more than the item itself that matters. If you like it, they'll like it more. The big site is Pandora and many sites like it will have 'Christmas Gift Guide' sections to make it super easy for you. Top tip: you could do a wee price low-high if this is just an add-on gift and although it's horrible to say they will most likely look it up and check how much you spent on it... sorry about that!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/de34e51cebb6d062cf1daa8dcff218f1/8a2fedd3a3ff7528-32/s1280x1920/aa6301e70f235a772fa55a460d456303ae691484.jpg)
9. EYESHADOW PALETTE
Now this is one you will most likely skip over because it feels like delving into a massive jungle with no map and no water and actually no shoes and no clue whatsoever of where to start. That's what boys feel like trying to buy girls make up and I really can't blame you. In fact, if you haven't been told exactly what to buy then who could blame you but if you're really looking to impress and go the extra mile and know they like make up then I'm going to attempt to help you as best I can and try and keep it really simple! So, first of all you'll need to somehow have a look at their collection when they're getting ready or be super stealthy and just double check they don't have the palette you're going to get them.
This is important. Right, so question one is do they watch YouTubers do make up? Because if they do then simply find out who they watch and check if that influencer has a palette or collab with a makeup brand because then your job is done for you!! If they've told you all about the James Charles/Tatti/Jefree Starr drama that encapsulated YouTube in the past then find out who's side they support because all three of those guys have palettes! James Charles x Morphe Artistry palette, Tatti has her own brand, or if they came out supporting Jeffree Starr and Shane Dawson in the whole fiasco then the Jeffree Starr 'Conspiracy palette' is for you. To each their own. These two main palettes I've featured on the left below for you to have a look at.
The top right palette is the new HUDA Beauty Naughty Nude palette and it's the one I'd go for if you're really unsure still! It's a new release so doubtful they have it and there's no crazy colours so can be used by everyone. It would be my top recommendation for make up this Christmas.
The three below that are all YouTuber/Influencer collabs with makeup brands that have been pretty popular this year. From the left: BPerfect x Stacey Marie Carnival III Love Tahiti Palette is one to get if you know they love doing colourful and adventurous looks, middle: Carli Bybel Palette x Anastasia Beverly Hills and far right: BPerfect x Jah Makeup Artist Clientele Palette are both perfect for more simple looks or if they don't go wild with colour and are both from big brands so will be very much appreciated!
God, this really could have been its own post where I explained it a bit better but alas...

10. HAIR CURLERS/WAVER
Maybe they're not as into makeup and prefer hair, or maybe they just love both? Then a Beauty Works hair styler would be a boujee gift for them. So, for this you can do the standard version of the products (gold) or you can do the newer versions in the collab with Molly Mae (pink). It's up to you. These products are pricey but great quality. First is the hair curler (Professional styler) which is great if both you and they love their hair curly, and you can't go wrong with Molly Mae's signature bouncy curls. The second option is a new trend in hair his year, The Waver, which creates the mermaid waves that I've pictured Molly Mae wearing below (and yes boys theyâre different than curls) and a great gift if they already have the curler. Top tip: is to get these lads while ASOS have 20% off because you're grabbing yourself a bargain or if you're really on a budget many brands do these products without the hefty price tag.

BONUS: GIFT ADVENT CALENDER
This year there is a major boom in the idea of gift advent calendars, so behind every door is a small gift instead of chocolate. Now what would be super adorable is to buy advent boxes online and fill them yourself with personalised gifts but luckily many brands have brought out their own versions! The best one I have saw so far this year is this PrettyLittleThing beauty calendar but it has been sold out for some time now! ASOS etc. are doing their own versions and there have even been adorable versions in the likes of HomeBargains and B&Ms where you can get candle or even alcohol versions.

Well, I hope this helped even a little bit! If you're really on the ball you'll have noticed I haven't included anything like the staple Primark pyjamas or everything seems catered towards girlfriends or 'for her' but not to worry I've many more versions planned, including 'for him', 'on a budget', and 'how to dress up your present'!
Happy (very early) Christmas!đđ

Aoyama x reader
Gender neutral reader and nonbinary Yuuga Aoyama
Quirk: light dance, you can manipulate the light when you dance such as making it shine in certain places or making it burn someone, this can also cause you to glow when flustered or excited
Warnings: mentions of high heels and dancing
Begin!

Y/N PoV
"-there will also be a Febuary dance to celebrate all of your successes as coming this far in your training. It will be on Febuary 13th an begins at 7:30. I hope to see you all there" the class 1B teacher said. Febuary dance? Huh, sounds fun i guess... I began to think of who to take with me when the bell rang and everyone got up to leave and head to lunch. "Bonjour Y/N! Would you like to sit with me?" Aoyama asked as i stopped walking to let them catch up. "Huh? Sure!" i smiled with closed eyes before continuing to walk with Aoyama.
"So, you hear about the Febuary dance Y/N?" i looked up at Jiro with confusion for a moment, "huh? Oh! Haha yeah, not sure who im gonna bring though.." i said as glaced over at Aoyama who was currently talking with Midoriya at the other end of the table. "Really? Well I heard Kirishima was going with Bakugou so thats new!" Kirishima and Bakugo? "Really? Good for them! Im glad they finally decided to come out about their relationship!" i genuinely am happy they came out and that they're going together, i wish i had that confidence with Aoyama. I still remember when we were little and how they were so much less confident back then.

Two small kids one with short blond hair and the other with (your hair length and color), both just sitting on the young blonds bed talking. "Its flashy but its useless if i cant use it for more then a second" the young Yuuga said as their eyes began to fill with tears. "Then you'll just have to train more! That way eventually you'll be able to use it as long as you want!" a young Y/N spoke with such determination that it almost convinced the young Yuuga, "b-but I'll never be as strong as you! I'll never be a good hero!" young Yuuga shouted crying at this point, But of course our determined little Y/N wasnt having it. "Of course not with that attitude!" young Y/N spoke with determination as they stood above their best friend, "You cant give up without even trying! Would almight give up!? No! So why should you! We'll train together and both become great heros! No matter what happens we'll always stay together! I'll make sure you become a good hero!" the young Y/N spoke with so much power that Yuuga swore that day to be as confident as them..

"Y/N??? Yyyyyy/nnnn! (your full name)!" "eep!" i squeaked as i was suddenly supried out of my spaced out state. "What! What happened!?" i said as i looked around frantically. "Haha! Calm down! Nothings wrong you just spaced out is all" Jiro said as i calmed down and sighed. "So who are you gonna bring to the febuary dance?" "dude i already said i dont know yet." i said with a dead panned look sighing, "well how would you like to go dress-" "or tuxedo!" "yes, or tuxedo shopping with us?" Momo asked as Hagakure interrupted. "Sure, sounds fun."
(time skip because i still cant write you walking to places)
"So wich one do think looks better?" Mina asked me as she showed me two similiar pink dresses. "Hmm, the second one i guess"
I said as she smiled and went to go put the other back.
"Dont forget to get something yourself Y/N!"
I nodded and began to look around for a bit before finding one i really liked. It was long and a bit flowy, it was a beautiful golden yellow with yellow tinted clear fabric covering the legs and beautiful swirly accents, it was a bit open on the sides but it had orange accessories on the belly, legs and upper arms. It had an light orange bra like top with a yellow lace cover and soft yellow clear fabric. The sides, back, and middle front of the dress were a silky soft fabric with a yellow orange gradient. It had a golden orange neck peice like the ones female Egyptians used to wear along with one gold triangle earing on one of the ears.
"..woah.."
I said as i reached to touch it, the fabric was so soft.
"Find one you like y- woah! Thats stunning!"
Mina said as she was awwed by the dress
"I can get it for you Y/N"
Momo said as she walked over to us and smiled
"H-huh!? But its so exspenisive! I-"
She cut me off,
"Its fine Y/N! Really! I dont mind"
I stuttered an ok and she pat my head
"You should try it on Y/N! I wanna see how good you look in it!"
Mina said as she jumped,
"S-sure"
I stuttered as i grabbed the dress and left to the changing room, a bit later and i walked out in the dress staring at the ground.
"Well? How do i look?"
I heard a few gasps and suddenly i was hugged by Jiro, Mina and Ochako
"YOU LOOK AMAZING!!"
(Again i really need to learn this)
"Well we're here!"
I heard Mina shout as i got out of the car and began to walk to the doors with her and Jiro next to me. I walked over to the benches to sit and look for Yuuga, see they asked me to go with them about two days before the dance and right after i picked out my dress.
"Bonjour Y/N! You look absolutely stunning darling but if i knew we were both wearing dresses i might have said something!"
I hear them laugh as i turned around to look at them, they were wearing a wonderful dark blue dress with a light blue cover that had sky blue swirls and dots. It had a cream colored ribon tied into a rose with greyish blue outlines, neon blue dots on the bottom and white swirls on the chest piece, it had a blue neck piece with a small white rose keeping it together, they had black gloves and a beaded arm piece on one arm. It was flowy and long like mine but the bottom split to show their legs and black rose vine heels with blue roses.
"You look amazing Yuuga!"
I blushed as they laughed and saw that they were wearing soft yellow lipstick, i was wearing dark blue. We really fit together,
"Well thank you! Care to dance?"
They asked holding out their hand.
"Of course!"
I grabbed their hand and we went to the dance floor, i put my hand on their waist and they put their hand on my shoulder, our other hands locked together and we begun to move to the song.
I nearing the end of my fourth year
I feel like ive been lacking, crying to many tears
Everyone seemed to say it was so great
But did i miss out? Was it a huge mistake?
I spun them a bit and we moved faster
I cant help the fact i like to be alone
It might sound kinda sad, but thatd just what i seem to know
I tend to handle things usually by myself
And i cant ever seem to try and ask for help
We clapped and they spun me our movements faster, one foot after the other i danced with them
Im sitting here, crying in my prom dress
I'd be the prom queen if crying was a contest
Makeup is running down
We laughed a bit and contuined
Feelings are all around
We blushed as we looked at each others eyes
How did i get here? i need to know
I guess i maybe had a couple expectations
Thought id get to them
I begun to dance away from them without realizing, my quirk was activating nad the light followed a pattern around me as i danced
But no i didn't
I guess i thought that prom was gonna be fun
But now im sitting on the floor and all i wanna do is run
I realized what i was doing when i felt everyone staring at me, i looked around scared before seeing Yuuga looking at me wide eyed.
"....i-i im sorry!....."
I ran out of the building in fear, i cant believe i did that! I kept running until i made it back to my dorm, i knew it was a bad idea to go to the dance.
(a few hours later)
*Knock knock*
"Hello? Darling its me"
I heard Yuuga through my door
"Darling im coming in.."
I heard the door open and saw them close it behind them
"..hey.."
I mumbled a "hello"
"..Yknow i thought your dance was amazing darling."
I looked at them with shock,
"Really?"
They nodded
"I'd still like to finish our dance if you dont mind.."
"Here?"
They hummed a "no"
"Not here, somewhere special. C'mon get cleaned up and we can go"
"...alright...thank you"
They hummed a response and waited outside while i fixed my makeup and put my shoes back on.
"Alright, where are we going?"
"You'll see"
(Wow so many of these in one story like damn)
Thousands of colored lights shined below us, we were on a grassy cliff aith a few trees.
"....woah this is....amazing.."
I felt Yuuga hug grab my hands with theirs and turn me around to face them
"So, wanna dance?"
I nodded glowing a soft gold
One foot after the other we danced slowly and calmly, it was peaceful and quiet besides the hum of the city below us.
We stared into each others eyes, the soft glow of the lights below us illuminating our faces. Closer amd closer our lips touched and our eyes closed, it was soft and a bit longer then a peck but it was amazing. Softs gasps as our eyes and lips parted,
"I...love you"
They sighed a bit
"I love you too Y/N.."

Welcome to the Heart Pirates, Nami-ya chapter 11: Dinner with Dr. Heart Stealer
As the clock struck seven, Nami critiqued her outfit in the mirror; a strapless little black dress that hugged her curves like a glove, gold stiletto heels, black thigh-high stockings, and the tourmaline jewelry sheâd bought from the seller in Tokken. She even used the hairpins Law had gotten her to clip back the left side of her hair. She finished off the look with some dark red lipstick and gold smokey eyeshadow, giving herself an elegant but sensual look.
âGetting all dressed up for the captain?â Ikkaku teased from her bed. The engineer was thumbing through the romance novel sheâd caught Nami with, and though it wasnât her usual thing, had decided to give it a shot. After all, it had managed to entrance the usually energetic navigator for hours, and she had some time to kill before Ladies Night.
Brushing some gold highlighter over her cheekbones, Nami scoffed. âPlease, Iâm getting dressed up for you. Lawâs just a lucky bastard who benefits due to scheduling.â
âIâm flattered,â she said with a wink. âThough Iâll understand if you ditch me to take him back to the nearest inn so he can rock your world. I mean, I wonât be happy, but Iâll understand.â
âOk, I gotta askâhave you ever slept with Law? Because youâre always vouching for his sexual prowessâŚâ
Ikkaku immediately made fake gagging sounds. âOh, hell no! Thatâd be like fucking one of my brothers! But I have talked to some of his past lovers, and they all seemed pretty damn satisfied. Something a girl like you deserves to be.â
Hip jutting out and eyebrow raised in challenge, Nami replied, âHow do you know they arenât lying? Maybe heâs terrible in bed but theyâre all too scared to speak ill of the Surgeon of Death, especially to one of his fearsome subordinates.â
The grin said subordinate graced her with was nothing short of salacious. âBecause if he were bad, Drake wouldnât keep coming back for more, even though Law pisses him off so much.â
Nami bit her lip to hide her grin. âOk, fair point. Also, I want the inside scoop on that relationship.â
âIf Law doesnât give you the dirty details himself, Iâll happily fill you in,â she replied, sniggering. âBet theyâll give you better fantasies than whateverâs in your books!â
Pink rose to the redheadâs cheeks as her eyes briefly darted to the space under her bed. Nami had shoved Ikkakuâs scandalous box to the very back corner to hopefully never see the light of day again. She dared not throw them out; she doubted Ikkaku would take kindly to it, and knowing her, would probably present her with something even more embarrassing in retaliation. âBy the way, as much as I hate your stupid âgiftâ, thanks for not spilling that to everyone. At least, not directly.â
âI thought about it but figured the sex toys would be just as funny without the guys prying into your hobbies. Most of them have enough tact to keep them from teasing you about a dildo, but I doubt theyâd show the same restraint if they found out you were into erotic novels.â
âYou just want to lord my guilty pleasure over me, donât you?â
âHowâd you know?â
âI have a sister, remember?â
âHa! Good point. Iâm guessing she teases you about this stuff?â she asked, pointing to the book.
Chocolate eyes rolled in exasperated fondness as she played with her bracelet. âAll the time. It was annoying, but I guess I appreciated it, in a way. It was one of the more normal things we could talk about, given how screwed up our situation was.â
âBecause of the pirates holding your town hostage?â
âYeah,â she replied, debating on whether she should elaborate. Finally, she added, âI was kind of an outcast among the townsfolk because I made sea charts for the captain. My sister was the only one who knew it was against my will, and that I had made a deal to raise money to buy the village back. Or at least, they all pretended not to know so if I ever decided to give up and run away, I wouldnât feel guilty.â
âYou know, Iâm beginning to understand why you have so many trust issues,â Ikkaku quipped, though her eyes were sympathetic.
âBelieve me, it was way worse before Luffy came into my life. If weâd met a year ago, I would have already betrayed you and stolen the ship and all the treasure on board.â
âYou could try, but the Boss would kill you. He loves this ship and he does not take threats to his crew lightly.â
âIâve noticed,â Nami deadpanned, adjusting her bodice. It was a sweetheart neckline, which nicely accented her generous bust, had enough support to keep her from spilling out. Such a thing was extremely necessary, given the low back of the dress. Not long ago, she would have been nervous wearing something so daring around Law, but she was still leaning on the theory that he had a weird fetish for modest clothing. If she was right, showing this much skin would act as a repellant.
âHe wasnât too rough with you, was he?â Ikkaku asked, genuinely concerned. âI mean, he can get intenseââ
âOh, he was absolutely terrifying, and Iâm pretty sure he was ready to start removing body parts if I hadnât been having a panic attack, but honestly? Iâd still choose him over Arlong.â
Before Ikkaku could ask any questions, there was a firm knock on the door. Grabbing her new purse and slipping into a leopard print, fur-trimmed coat, Nami nodded at her roommate. âPromise me a 9pm rescue?â
âHmmm, only if I donât get too caught up in this book,â she teased, cracking it open. âI mean, you did say there was some pretty intense eye contact to look forward to.â
Blushing, she shot back, âYou laugh, but chemistry like that can be more intense than any make-out scene.â
âSays the virgin.â
Choosing to ignore the jab, Nami yanked open the door and was met by Lawâs cocky smirk. To her surprise, he wore a tailored white suit with a black dress shirt, which brought out that extra little bit of olive in his skin tone. His polished black dress shoes gleamed as brightly as his earrings and the thick, gold chain around his neck. A heady, musky scent tempted Namiâs nose, and she realized Lawâd chosen to wear some kind of cologne. Oddly enough, his white fur hat and tattoos didnât seem as out of place as when heâd dressed up on Tokken Island; perhaps it was because this wasnât a disguise, or the color was just far more complimentary to his trademark accessories. He looked slick and dangerous, but also at easeâa criminal on a night off.
Damn it, he looked even better than he had at the gala.
Leaning against the doorframe, Lawâs grin widened at her perusal. âDo I pass inspection, Nami-ya?â he purred, giving her his own approving once-over.
Gold eyes locked with hazelnut as Nami cocked her hip. âConsidering how you havenât told me where weâre going, itâs a bit hard to judge. For all I know, youâre underdressed.â
âWeâre going to a jazz club I frequent, so even if I showed up in jeans, theyâd let me inâespecially if I have a beautiful woman on my arm.â
âFlatter all you like, Lawâyouâre not getting out of footing the bill.â
Never breaking eye contact, he gave a little mock bow. âOf course not. A gentleman always treats on the first date.â
âI donât know youâre more wrong about; that you think this is a date, that thereâll be more than one, or that youâre anything even close to a gentleman.â
âI think I proved myself at the gala. I was on my best behavior, wasnât I?â
âMaybe in public, but the second we were alone, you went right back to being a bastard.â
A low whistle interrupted their banter, and Nami turned to see Ikkaku wiggling her eyebrows suggestively as she meaningfully glanced between them. âYou know what, Nami? You may have a point with that âintense eye contactâ thing.â
Cheeks inflamed, Nami grabbed Law by the arm and dragged him down the hallway before Ikkaku could say anything else. As she felt the captainâs intense gaze burning into the back of her head, she silently wondered if a free dinner was worth it.
XXX
The outside of the jazz club was far from impressiveâin fact, the entrance was a nondescript wooden door against a plain brick wall, its only ornamentation a faded bronze knocker and a number â8â nailed at the top. Nami was positive she would have walked straight past if Law hadnât led her to it, pausing to quickly rap three times with his knuckles, then four with the knocker.
After a moment, the door opened, and they were greeted by a young woman dressed in a short skirt and tailored red vest. âCaptain Trafalgar. So glad you could join us tonight.â
Law gave a lazy, familiar grin as he wrapped his arm around Namiâs waist. âAlways a pleasure, Akari. Is my usual booth ready?â
âOf course, sir,â she replied, ushering them inside and leading them down a narrow, winding staircase.
As they stepped into the lounge, Namiâs eyes widened in surprise. The bland building façade hid a much more elaborate interior; everything from the bar to the floor to the wall panels were made of mahogany or cherry wood, with ruby red cushions, upholstery, and carpets. Red and gold lamps provided just enough light to see by while giving the place a sensual, mysterious ambiance.
At the far end of the room, low couches formed a semi-circle around the small dance floor in front of the stage, where various instruments and music stands awaited performers. Currently, the stageâs sole occupant was an older gentleman playing a soothing tune on the piano. There were a few larger tables scattered about, but most of the seating appeared to be small booths in the walls, their openings framed by red velvet curtains. Several were occupied by canoodling couples, and it didnât escape Namiâs notice that a few even had the curtains drawn.
Akrai led them to an empty booth, and Law graciously helped Nami out of her coat, handing it to their hostess to hang up before sliding comfortably into his seat.
âWow,â Nami said, taking it all in. Their seating arrangement was cozy but not claustrophobic, the velvet cushions that padded the crescent bench wonderfully plush. A gold lamp hung above the round table, allowing her to more easily peruse the embossed menu. Appetizers ranged from shrimp cocktail to deviled quail eggs, while entrees featured grilled seafood, roast duck, and steak. The drink list was extensive with an assortment of sparkling wines, cocktails, hard liquor, and even absinthe.
âI figured youâd approve,â Law replied smugly, lounging back in his seat. âAnd I told you I wasnât underdressed.â
âI guess not. Howâd you hear about this place?â
âItâs an establishment that first started in the North BlueâProhibition Island decided it wanted to outlaw alcohol, among other âsinfulâ things. The clubâs owner was an entrepreneur from the West Blue, so she knew a thing or two about setting up businesses under the governmentâs nose. The original club became successful enough to branch out to other islands, and eventually made its way down the Grand Line.â
âI wouldnât expect Grimm to ban alcohol,â Nami replied, brow furrowing in confusion. An archipelago that catered to pirates and other scum, which had a thriving black market and a brothel on every corner, but outlawed alcohol? The very idea was baffling.
Head shaking, Law chuckled, âOh, it doesnât, but Haiko-ya felt the atmosphere suited the clandestine aesthetic. This just happens to be a place where you can get quality booze and not worry about someone spiking your drink. Sheâs a criminal, but she has standards far higher than most of the islandâs establishments.â
âYou sound like you know her personally.â
He shrugged but gave a mysterious smile. âSheâs Kimo-yaâs wife, actually. Considering all the business I do with her husband, she was happy to give me a lifetime VIP membership.â
A wave of paranoia sent a shiver down Namiâs spine. âWhat if she sells us out to Jinzo?â
âShe wonât. She hates the manâs guts to an impressive extent. Hell, if sheâs here tonight, sheâll probably give you special perks for ending up on his shit list.â
By that point, a young man in a red satin waistcoat appeared, smiling at the pair pleasantly. âWelcome back to Ruby 8, Captain Trafalgar. My name is Hansuke, and itâs my pleasure to serve you tonight. What can I get you to drink?â he asked, flipping open his notepad.
âIâll have a neat whiskey,â Law said easily.
âA Sour Sunrise for me, please,â Nami said, pleased to find an orange juice-based cocktail. She flashed Law a catlike grin as she added, âAnd a bottle of your best champagne.â
âOne glass or two?â the waiter asked, glancing at Law for confirmation.
âTwo,â Law replied, smirking at Nami. âIn fact, make sure thereâs another bottle ready for when we finish the first one. Weâre celebrating, after all, and I intend on giving my woman an unforgettable evening.â
âIâm not your woman,â she growled, but was ignored by both men.
âOf course, Captain Trafalgar,â Hansuke said with an eager nod. Men looking to impress were men who spent a lot of money, and if he did well, he might just earn himself a hefty tip. âAre you ready to order your meals as well, or do you need more time?â
âI know what I want,â said Law, barely glancing at the menu. âIâll take the grilled salmon with the house salad.â
âIâll have the orange duck, and can we also get a basket of rolls for the table, please?â Nami asked the waiter sweetly, fluttering her eyelashes for extra measure.
The young man nervously glanced between her and the scowling Supernova, clearly debating which one was better to please.
âIâŚlet me check with the chefâI think he said something about running out,â he squeaked out before sprinting off.
âThat was cruel of you, Nami-ya,â Law rumbled, fixing her with an annoyed glare, though sadistic humor twinkled in his eyes. âI told you, Iâm a regular here. They know I despise bread and will decapitate anyone stupid enough to bring it to my table.â
With a huff, she crossed her long legs and flipped her hair haughtily. âKilling a waiter isnât a great way to impress a girl and will definitely get you banned from any self-respecting restaurantâVIP or not.â
âI wouldnât kill himâyou forget, my powers allow me to cut a man to pieces and still keep him alive.â
âYou should seriously still be banned.â
âTheyâve served far worse patrons than me, and they know Iâll be on my best behavior and fill their pockets with plenty of belli so long as they donât intentionally piss me off.â Lips turning up in an amused grin, he continued, âIâd say itâs a lesson you could stand to learn, sweetheart, but half the time I find your petty acts of defiance charming.â
âDoes that include the sunburn I gave you?â
âNo, though I did enjoy everything you did to distract me from it.â
The waiter returned to their booth with their drinks and a small tray of assorted meat and cheeses, smiling at Nami apologetically even as a drop of sweat trickled down his face. âIâm so sorry, miss, but it seems weâre out of bread this evening. Not so much as a crumb can be found. Please accept this complimentary charcuterie board with the houseâs sincerest apologies.â
Annoying as it was that Law had the staff wrapped around his finger, she took pity on the poor man and gave an understanding smile. If the Surgeon of Death really was a regular at this place, she couldnât blame him for not going along with her game. âOh, this is just lovely! Thank you so much!â
Hansukeâs relief was palatable as he set down the tray and their drinks before running off to fetch the champagne.
âSee? Itâs things like this that keep me from getting too mad at you,â Law chuckled, popping a cube of cheese into his mouth. âI havenât gotten a free appetizer since that time a new waiter insisted Iâd ordered breadcrumbs on my salmon.â
âSo, you tolerate me so long as I get you free stuff?â Nami quipped, taking a dainty bite of a slice of ham. It had a surprising fruity note and practically melted in her mouth. Sheâd have to tell Sanji about it. Hell, even Luffy might appreciate it, assuming he took the time to chew.
She swallowed a bit more harshly than sheâd intended when Law leaned across the table, long fingers lightly stroking her elbow as he murmured, âI put up with your antics so long as you make it worth my while, Nami-ya. Keep that in mind next time youâre tempted to pull one of your little pranks.â
Despite pulling his hand away to pick up his drink, Nami could still feel tingling sparks dance across her skin. It really was ridiculous how a brush of his hand invoked that reaction. She was supposed to be more composed than thatâa wily thief that didnât mix business with pleasureâbut while his overt come-ons could be annoying, his subtle touches and inviting glances still managed to tempt her. âFine, but the fact that youâre willing to literally take someoneâs head off over bread is way more childish than my âlittle pranksâ,â she grumbled into her cocktail.
Whether Law heard her snarky comment or not, their conversation was briefly interrupted as the waiter appeared with the champagne, popping the cork and carefully pouring the bubbly liquid into a pair of elegant crystal flutes. âThe sous chef has received your order and will of course be making it himself, Captain Trafalgar,â he said. âIf you need anything else in the meantime, please, donât hesitate to ask.â
âThanks,â he said breezily, sipping his whiskey. âWhat time is the band scheduled to start up?â
âIn less than a half-hour, sir. Theyâre currently on their dinner break, but I can askââ
He waved him off. âIâm in no rush, and Iâd rather they be at peak condition while performing. I donât need my evening ruined because one of them fainted onstage from hunger.â
âOf course, sir. Regardless, Iâll inform them youâre in the audience. Anything else?â
âTime alone with my date would be ideal,â he replied in a clipped tone, raising an eyebrow meaningfully.
Nami could see the way the young man shivered at Lawâs glare, and he skittered like a mouse back to the kitchen, wisely leaving the bottle behind.
âAnd you call me cruel,â she stated blandly as she savored another piece of ham.
âIâm all for attentive servers, but the constant sucking up was getting old.â Trying some of the meat for himself, he glanced at her appraisingly. âBut enough about him. Youâre a far more interesting subject.â
She frowned, brow furrowing suspiciously. âAm I?â
Linking his fingers and leaning his elbows on the table, he smirked. âOf course. Despite being on my ship for nearly three months, youâre still a mystery. A puzzle with so many missing pieces that I canât yet visualize the total picture.â
âI could say the same about you,â she said, remembering the confusion she felt as he ran off the day before. âWeâre both complex people who play their cards close to the chest.â
âThat we are, but yesterday proved that a lack of communication between us can be detrimental to our working relationship, not to mention your health. I promise not to pry too much, and you donât need to give me all the details, but I expect honest answers.â
Much as she wanted to argue, Penguinâs advice stopped her. The first mate was right; everyone had baggage, but how were people supposed to know her bugbears if she didnât tell them? As worried as she was that a man like Law would be willing to exploit her weaknesses, he also had a point regarding how their communication issues had nearly gotten her killed. Even if it drudged up unpleasant memories, this was a necessary talk for the sake of side-stepping further unpleasantness. âFine. Iâll open upâjust a littleâif you will.â
Resting his chin on his knuckles, Law took a minute to mull over his first question. âTell me, Nami-ya, howâd you get the name âCat Thiefâ, anyway? Rumor has it itâs been your moniker since well before the World Government issued your bounty.â
Taking a deep breath and a steadying swallow of her Sour Sunrise, she replied, âMyâŚfirst captain was always comparing me to a kitten. Guess it was his way of praising me despite my species, since he saw humans as the lowest of the low.â
âOdd opinion.â
âNot for a Fishman.â
Leaning back against the plush velvet cushions, Law unlinked his fingers and munched on another piece of cheese. âAh. A backhanded compliment. Better than a human, but still little more than a pet.â
âThat about sums it up,â she said, pushing down the image of Arlongâs patronizing smile. God, some days sheâd hated his condescending approval more than his disgusting hatred for her species. It made her feel dirty, being someone that a monster like him could admire.
Law rubbed his goatee thoughtfully. âNo wonder you had such an extreme reaction to me calling you âkittenâ. Iâll try to avoid it in the future. Still odd youâd adopt a feline signature, though.â
Shaking off her former captorâs vindictive smile, Nami shrugged, buying time before replying by nibbling on some cheese, even though she barely tasted it. âGuess it was a little out of spite; I wanted to take the word back and feel like I had just a shred of power. Didnât really work, but it was still a good nickname for a thief.â
Perhaps he sensed her discomfort, but Law gently nudged the topic towards safer waters. âFair. Shachi was the one who came up with âThe Surgeon of Deathâ. Bit over-the-top, but I like it. Iconic, and definitely strikes fear into the hearts of my enemies.â
âSounds like something from a comic book,â she scoffed as she finished her cocktail, moving on to the champagne. She knew she wouldnât get drunk, but the bubbles tickling her palette would be a pleasant way to keep her mind from slipping into the past. Even without the meds in her system driving her towards panic attacks, she knew nothing good could come from dwelling too long on what Arlong had put her through.
âLike I said, it was Shachiâs idea. He was worried the Marines would give me something lame, so he and the crew went out of their way to mention it in every port we stopped in until they had no choice but to put it on my wanted poster.â
âIâm sure Drake had his own suggestions on what to call you.â
Law chuckled smugly, looking far too proud of himself. âOh, Iâm sure he did, but those posters are seen by the general public, so anything heâd propose would have to be censored. Itâs probably why Eustassâ moniker is just âCaptainâ; either that or itâs a lame form of overcompensation.â His grin grew even more devious as he added, âFirst time we met, I deliberately acted like Killer was the captain, just to piss him off.â
Despite herself, Nami had to giggle. Sheâd only met Eustass Kid briefly, but heâd seemed the type to not take an insult lightly. With the highest bounty of the rookies, he was certainly someone she wouldnât want to mess with. âYouâre an asshole with a death wish, arenât you?â
Law shrugged, knocking back the rest of his whiskey. The humor in his eyes dimmed. âPerhaps I do, just a little bit. I didnât expect to live past the age of thirteen.â
âWhy?â she asked curiously before she could catch herself. âIf you donât mind me asking.â
Face cast in shadow by the brim of his hat, he tersely replied, âI was a sickly child. My father was the best doctor in the providence, but even he couldnât come up with a cure. Didnât help that the world believed it was a contagious disease, so we had no outside help. I only survived because of the Ope Ope no Mi.â
âYour father must have been happy about that, at least.â
âHe was killed years before I got my hands on it.â
âOh. Iâm so sorry.â Her heart clenched at the thought. A dead parent before the age of thirteen. Wasnât that a painfully familiar story? âWell, Iâm sure heâd still be happy you survived.â
He shrugged again, watching the bubbles in his champagne flute pop to avoid meeting her sympathetic gaze. âHeâd be disappointed that I became a pirate instead of following in his footsteps.â
âMaybe, but I think heâd accept it so long as youâre alive and happy. Bellemere was a Marine, but while she wouldnât approve of her daughter becoming a pirate, sheâd support my decision because Iâm free and working towards my dream of drawing a map of the world.â
As he finally looked at her, Nami caught Lawâs lips briefly twitch upwards. âI suppose weâll never know, but itâs a pleasant fantasy, at least.â He gave a mock toast. âTo the parents who wanted better for us.â
With a wry smile, Nami clinked her glass to his, the pair gulping down the sparkling wine just as their food arrived. Digging into her meal, she appreciated both the delicious flavor of the duck and the blessed break in the heavy conversation eating allowed.
Talking to Law about her past was far different from Luffy. Nojiko had informed her before they left Cocoyashi that her stubborn captain had opted out of hearing her backstory when sheâd offered to reveal it. At first, Namiâd been offendedâwhat, had he thought her reasons for betraying the crew and faking Usoppâs death didnât matter? But then she realized that, even without knowing who Arlong was or what heâd done to her and the villagers, Luffy had still gone after him.
All because that bastard had made his navigator cry.
As theyâd sailed for Loguetown afterwards, Nami had pulled Luffy aside one night, sat him down, and told him everything. Not because he needed to know, but because a man like that was someone who deserved to know. Deserved to know the awful things sheâd endured and done to survive. Why heâd found her mutilating her shoulder, cutting off that awful tattoo. Why she was so grateful heâd destroyed that room and all of the charts sheâd toiled over for eight years. Why his refusal to give up on her had meant the world to the distrustful thief.
For his part, Luffy had listened quietly, occasionally nodding his head to show he was paying attention, an unusually patient and serious expression on his face. When she was finished, heâd clapped her shoulder, gave her that carefree, goofy grin, and simply said, âNow Iâm really glad I punched that jerk!â
Law wasnât like that. While he didnât pry, he did ask questions, clearly seeking those missing puzzle pieces he spoke of and not taking her answers at face-value. Admittedly, they had been pretty bare-boned, but it highlighted the difference between the two captainsâLaw sought to understand because he didnât fully trust her. Luffy didnât need to understand, because he trusted her from the moment sheâd refused to fire a cannonball at him.
Looking at Lawâs nearly-finished plate, she had to suppress a giggle as another difference between him and Luffy hit herâhis chewing habits might have left something to be desired, but at least he knew not to eat the fishâs skeleton.
Noticing his companionâs attention had returned to him, Law took a sip of champagne as he considered her. âYou mentioned your âfirst captainâ. Iâm assuming this wasnât Mugiwara?â
Nami sighed, setting down her fork to drink from her own glass, hoping the sharp beverage would wash away the foul taste talking more about Arlong would inevitably bring. âNo. Before Luffy, I served as the cartographer for another pirate crew for eight years.â She deliberately didnât mention she was an officerâit was easier for people to accept she was a prisoner when it didnât sound like she was in a position of authority. Perhaps that was why Arlong had âpromotedâ her, even though she had no real power among the Fishmen. âHeâŚhis crew invaded my village when I was ten and made everyone pay for the right to live. Bellemere only had enough money to save her own life, or mine and Nojikoâs.â
âAnd, of course, she sacrificed herself to protect her children.â Law shook his head, and for a moment, Nami swore she saw a wince of pain, but the amber light made it hard to tell. âEight yearsâŚI know captains who recruit kids so they can brainwash them into loyal subordinates, but he killed your mother. I doubt you joined him willingly, after something like that?â
âBelieve me, I didnât,â she growled. Hands shaking slightly, she instinctively grabbed her knife, holding it like the dagger sheâd used to fake Usoppâs death and destroy her tattoo. âWorking for my motherâs murderer was nothing short of torture. Day and night I drew maps for him until my hands bled, barely allowed to sleep or eat. And all the while he acted like he was doing me a favor, since cartography was what I loved most in the world.â
The word DEATH entered her field of vision as Law covered her trembling hand with his own. The warmth was comfortingly familiar at this point, and she felt her white-knuckled grip on the cutlery slacken. âDonât worry; I do believe you,â he said softly, catching her gaze with his own. His expression was soft and concernedâsimilar to the way heâd looked at her last night in the infirmary. âYouâve shown yourself to be loyal to those you care about, and weâve all done awful, painful things for the sake of survival. And I have to say, you may actually have a stronger will than meâI doubt I would have lasted a week serving the captain who murdered someone I held dear.â
âYeah,â she said, breathing deeply, willing herself to calm down. Lawâs thumb rubbing little circles across her knuckles was surprisingly helpful with that. It gave her something to focus on; to ground herself instead of letting the memories take over. Rough as the callouses from his swordsmanship and hard life at sea were, they were still so much smoother than the sandpaper-like skin of a shark Fishman. So blessedly human. âI guessâŚI guess you were right, though; if youâre not strong enough to protect yourself, youâre the property of someone who was strong enough to claim you.â
âI know Iâm right, but I wish I werenât. Iâm assuming this first captain of yours has something to do with your dislike of my uniform?â
âYou could say that.â She sighed, jerking her chin towards her left shoulder, the faint scars beneath her swirling tattoo barely visible in the dim light, but neither had to see them to know they were there. âOne of the first things he did was have me branded with his Jolly Roger to make sure I couldnât run off. So the whole world would know I was his property.â
Much like Penguin, Nami could see the dots connecting in Lawâs mind. Heâd recognized right away that the scars were self-inflicted, but now that he knew what had once been in their place, he could deduct why sheâd caused herself such grievous harm. She felt his fingers tighten around her own, first in anger, before easing into a comforting squeeze. With forced calm, he said, âConsidering how often Fishmen and Mermaids are sold as slaves, it was probably just as much a petty form of revenge. Still, I guess that explains your objection.â Frowning, he rubbed his forehead beneath his hat with his free hand. âLook, I canât promise youâll never have to wear the uniform again. Like it or not, it really is the easiest way to keep you safe.â
Deep down, she appreciated his apology and understanding, even as she inwardly groaned at the thought of wearing the beige jumpsuit. âIt also made me a target,â she argued. âDrake wouldnât have looked twice at me if Iâd been in my normal clothes.â
âPlease, Drake-ya reads the news and would have gone after you regardless of what you were wearing. Heâs smart enough to recognize a dangerous alliance when he sees one, or at least an opportunity to get a leg up. Pitiful as your bounty is, getting his hands on a lone Straw Hat, especially one who was able to rob a former Marine Intelligence officerâs mansion, would be quite tempting.â A wide, predatory grin stretched across his face as he leaned forward, resting his chin on his fist as he leered at her. âThough, personally, I think he was jealous that Iâd found a new redhead to play with.â
Nami snorted, the tension in her back loosening. Creepy as he was, Law was smart, steering the conversation away from the past and the worldâs speculation on their partnership to something they could casually fight about. âAre you kidding? I think he was relieved; with me around, he doesnât have to deal with you bothering him anymore.â
âIf that were the case, he wouldnât have tried to abduct you.â
âIn case youâve forgotten, he was trying to ârescueâ me; Drakeâs a real gentleman, unlike you,â she quipped, taking a condescending sip of her drink.
âOh, yes, a real gentleman who kidnaps and threatens to sell off unwilling women,â Law replied sarcastically.
âBetter than a pervert who makes a girl wear an ugly uniform to indulge his weird sexual fetish.â
ââŚmy what now?â
Confident that sheâd just played a winning hand, she leaned forward, bending her chest slightly over the table. âPlease, I see right through your little act. Sure, you flirt and tease, but only if Iâm fully dressed.â The tip of a manicured finger teasingly traced along the swell of her cleavage. âWhen Iâm wearing next to nothing, you show no interest in my incredibly sexy body. Given your proclivities, Iâm surprised you even helped me out of my coat.â
Blinking owlishly, Law replied, âIâm sorry, you think Iâm attracted to youâŚwhen youâre wearing more clothes?â
âYeah!â she insisted, not caring for his disbelieving tone.
He covered his face with one large, tattooed hand, but through his splayed fingers Nami could still see yellow eyes light up with amusement. As she glared, they only shone brighter, and his shoulders slowly began to shake. Gradually, low chuckles slipped from his lips, finally morphing into full-on laughter, his palm failing to muffle the sound.
An irritated vein throbbed in Namiâs forehead as Law continued to cackle. âDonât think you can fool me by treating this like a joke! You have a clothing kink! During my initial check-up, you didnât give a damn that I was strutting around in my underwear. At the mansion, you were all over me when I was in that gown, but once itâs off, woosh, Iâm as attractive as a lamp! Even after the mission, you barely even acknowledged what a hot piece of ass I am. Then you insist I wear that freaking jumpsuitâŚâ
âNami-ya,â he chortled as his hand dropped back to the table, managing to calm down enough during her rant to formulate a reply, âI donât have a clothing kinkâIâm just good at compartmentalizing and know thereâs a time and place. When we were in the infirmary, not only was I acting as your doctor, but it was clear you were too nervous to be receptive to any blatant advances. As for the mansion, yes you looked absolutely delicious in that bodysuit, but we were there to do a job; there was simply no time to indulge myself. And when I treated your wounds,â his smile fell a bit, âyouâd just been through a potentially traumatizing event. You were flinching just from me touching your calf. I know I can be an asshole, but did you really expect me to come onto you when you were acting like I was Harpin?â
For a moment, Nami just sat there, jaw hanging uselessly as she realized just how far off her theory had been, and most importantly, just how badly sheâd managed to embarrass herself. Her own vanity had blinded her to the obvious answer. She could justify it with the fact that most of the guys she knew were either perverts or barely acknowledged that she was a woman, so she wasnât used to a man who could both flirt and control himself, but she wouldnât lie to herself.
âSoâŚthe uniform isnât some weird sexual thing?â she asked, trying to cover her humiliation by finishing her glass of champagne. Times like these made her really wish she could get drunk; it would be the perfect excuse for her ridiculous accusation.
âI mean, I wonât lie and say I donât like you in it, but it really is just for your own protection.â Lawâs returning grin was smoldering and devilish as he purred, âIâm curious, though, about what bothered you more; that I might have a strange fetish for fully-clothed women, or that I wasnât giving your incredibly sexy body the attention you felt it deserved?â
âIâŚâ
He shuffled closer, sliding across the booth to close the distance between them, resting his right arm across the back of her seat and teasingly trailing the fingers of his left land along the soft skin of her jaw to cup her chin. âBecause if itâs the latter, Iâm happy to show you just how much I appreciate it when you run around my ship in crop tops and booty shorts.â
Nami blushed, realizing sheâd played directly into his hands.
âYou know, one of the reasons I like redheads so much is how vibrantly they blush,â he chuckled, leaning down so his breath danced across her sensitive neck and ear. The way sheâd pinned her hair meant she had no shield from it, and she shivered at the sensation. âItâs so cute, watching the capillaries that carry your blood widen as adrenaline rushes through you. No matter how good a personâs poker face is, the body doesnât lie. Lets me know my targetâs receptive to my flirting, even when they stubbornly refuse to admit it.â
âYou base it all on a blush?â she countered, defiantly poking him in the chest. âPeople blush in anger and embarrassment. You canât assume someone wants you just because their face gets a little red.â
Like a leopard sizing up his prey, Law loomed above her, gaze analytical and hungry as he studied her. âNo, youâre right; good thing, as a doctor, I know all the other physical indicators of arousal.â Tilting her head up, he stated, âDilated pupils.â
His hand dropped from her chin to carefully brush along the flesh of her arm. âGoosebumps.â
Long fingers encircled her wrist, thumb resting over her pulse. âIncreased heartrate.â
Honey eyes dropped to Namiâs mouth as the tip of her pink tongue peeked out to moisten her suddenly dry lips. âUnconsciously licking oneâs lips.â
Releasing her wrist, Lawâs touch traveled back up her arm to gently stroke the ends of her mikan hair. âAnd the fact that you havenât even tried to move or push me away. In fact, Iâd say youâre leaning into my touch.â
Namiâs face warmed further as she realized he was right. Mentally she berated herself, but deep down, she was beginning to accept that, even if she refused to act on it for pride and professionalismâs sake, she was slightly addicted to his attentions. She was never short on male admirers, but Law challenged her, the push-and-pull giving her a thrill the way heart-eyed fools like Sanji failed to. There was something about Law that drew her in like a moth to a flameâshe knew it was fatal to get too close, but damn it, she couldnât help but dance with danger.
Winding a short, orange lock of hair around a long finger, Law declared confidently, âAll this says you find me sexually attractive.â
Before she could confirm or deny this claim, an excited voice bellowed, âAs I live and breathe, Trafalgar Law graces us with his exalted presence once again!â
Said captainâs seductive grin shifted into his trademark smirk as he turned to greet the newcomer. âAre you living and breathing, Hiroshi-ya?â
The man chuckled, grabbing Lawâs hand in a firm shake. Beneath a silver fedora his graying hair was cut close to his scalp. His skin was dark but sported prominent laugh-lines, a pair of oval sunglasses rested on the end of his large nose, and his brilliant grin could have replaced one of the stageâs spotlights. âIf Iâm not, youâd probably know before I did, doc.â
âBecause Iâm that good, or because youâd be too focused on performing to realize youâd dropped dead?â
The two shared a laugh before the man turned to introduce himself to Nami. âHope I wasnât interrupting a moment, here, darlinâ, but I simply had to come over and say hello. The nameâs âDevilâs Fingersâ Hiroshi, and your boy Law here is one of my favorite patrons. Tips well, and he saved my life.â
âI only fixed your hands.â
âConsiderinâ how theyâd been crushed beyond recognition and I need those to make a living, I think that counts.â
Nami gaped in shock as Hiroshi held up his hands, showing that while they were clearly in working order, they were littered with tiny surgical scars.
Law shrugged, though he seemed pleased with the praise. âIt was a fun operationânot every day you get to remove someoneâs finger bones one-by one to rebuild your favorite musicianâs hands.â
âYou put someone elseâs bones into him?â Nami asked the surgeon, astounded.
âOf course,â Law said casually. âHis own were absolutely pulverized, so a transplant was necessary if he ever wanted to play the saxophone again.â
Part of her was horrified at the mental image, but beneath that, something niggled at her. This was the second time sheâd heard someone sing Lawâs praises as a legitimate doctor, and unlike Reginald, Hiroshi seemed perfectly aware of the Surgeon of Deathâs criminal activities and sadistic reputation. What reason did Law have for helping this man? Was it just because he liked his music?
âWell, Iâd best get ready for the show, and Iâm sure you want some more alone time with your girl, eh, Law?â Hiroshi teased, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
âIâd certainly appreciate a little mood music,â he said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a few large bills.
âYou got it,â the sax player sniggered, winking at Nami. âHope you donât mind, but weâll be stroking your boyâs ego a bit. After the surgery, I wrote a little ditty about him as thanks, and itâs become pretty popular with the crowd. Plus, itâs the only time Oscar lets me take over as the lead singer.â
âLaw strokes his own ego plenty,â Nami groused, eyes rolling heavenward. âAnd if you want to write about him, go for his flaws; thereâs enough of those to fill an opera.â
âOooo, sheâs feisty! Have fun with that, doc!â he chuckled as he strolled off towards the stage.
âI plan to,â Law purred, turning back towards the woman beside him. âI just canât resist a fiery ginger.â
âSpeaking of,â Nami deflected, hoping to keep the conversation from returning to their original topic, âyou and Drake, huh?â
He chuckled at her obvious ploy but proceeded to go along with it. âAh, one of my favorite playmates. What do you want to know?â
âI mean, letâs start with how the hell that happened?â
âYou mean, how did the golden boy of the Navy find himself thoroughly seduced by the North Blueâs most notorious rookie pirate?â
âYeah. Mainly because Drake seems smart enough not to fall for your sleazy tricks. Or at the very least, composed enough to ignore them until you lose interest.â
Refreshing their glasses of champagne, he gave a wolfish smile. âSo youâd think, but Drake-yaâs got an instinctual, animalistic side thatâs just so much fun to rile up. Besides that, I observed his physical reactions whenever we crossed paths, and wouldnât you know it? They were damningly similar to yours.â
Picking at the remains of the charcuterie board, she munched on a piece of cheese to keep her bodyâs natural responses under control. Keep it together, she thought stubbornly. Even if I did mix business with pleasure, thereâs no way Iâm letting him win. âPretty sure the heat of battle elicits similar responses. I think you were just looking for clues that werenât there in a desperate attempt justify a hopeless crush.â
Her sass received a sharp laugh in reply. Handing Nami her glass, Law brushed the tips of his fingers over hers as he stated, âMaybe, but my theory was undeniably proven when Penguin, Ikkaku and I snuck onto his ship and found him moaning my name while jerking off in the shower.â
Nami nearly choked on her drink, the bubbly wine burning as it tried to make its way up her nose. No wonder Penguin wanted to repress that, she thought, mortified for the poor first mate. Sheâd probably feel the same way if sheâd overheard someone masturbating to the thought of Luffy. âOh my god.â
âYou should have heard the things he was sayingâfuck, harder Law! Put that dirty mouth to good use, you bastard!â Law moaned in her ear, mimicking his rivalâs deep, guttural growl.
âM-maybe he had a hard-on for justice. You know, the actual law,â she argued weakly. She didnât even really know why she botheredâit was clear heâd been right, considering how he and Drake had fucked at least once, but she just felt a need to try to knock him down a few pegs and keep his ego in check.
âMmm, do you really believe that?â he hummed, honey eyes regarding her with amusement as he took a sip of his drink. âI think youâre just looking for clues that arenât there in a desperate attempt to justify your need to be contrary.â
âOh, shut up,â she grumbled, downing her drink and pouring the last of the bottle into her glass. âFine, so Drake was utterly repressed from his time in the Navy and you were able to use that to get him into bed.â A thought came to her, and she raised her eyebrow curiously. âWait, he didnât leave the Marines because he fell in love with you or something, right?â ThatâŚwould be kind of tragic, actually. Despite the sexual tension, the two Supernova hadnât seemed to be on the friendliest of terms, so if Drake had defected for Law only for their relationship to sourâŚ
âGod, no,â he laughed, finishing off his own glass of champagne. âDrake-ya was dishonorably discharged not long after he massacred a village rumored to be sheltering pirates. He may seem honorable and composed, and Iâll admit he usually tried to avoid senseless cruelty, but when situations called for violence, he was cold-blooded and bloodthirsty. I think his family history also played a role; his father had defected and turned pirate, so I imagine there was a bit of a glass ceiling Drake-ya knew heâd never overcome.â
âAnd you know this how?â
âPillow talk.â
Nami mulled his words over carefully. âWas Drake close to his father?â
âFrom what he told me while completely shitfaced, Diez Barrels had once been a Marine Drake-ya wanted to emulate, but when he switched sides, he was nothing short of an abusive monster.â
Pity welled up in Namiâs heart at the implications. âPoor guy.â
âYou do remember this is the same man who tried to kidnap you, right?â
âYeah, but that doesnât mean it must not have sucked for him; looking up to someone, wanting to be just like them, only to be let down in spectacular fashion.â
For a brief moment, Law tilted his head, the brim of his hat casting a shadow across his face, but his voice was tight as he replied, âEnough about Drake-ya.â Clearing his throat, he turned to catch their waiterâs eye, pointing to the empty bottle of champagne. When his gaze returned to Nami, his tone was back to normal. âIâm getting a little jealous with all this talk about another man.â
She frowned. Nami could tell sheâd hit a bit close to home there. Had Law once looked up to someone? Part of her wanted to pry; the man was uncharted waters, and the cartographer in her itched to discover his secrets and map them out.
But more than anyone, she respected wanting to keep a painful history private. âThen what do you want to talk about? Because if you want any more of my past, youâre going to need to buy me more than another bottle of champagne,â she replied before knocking back the final sip.
He raised an eyebrow, impressed. âYou drank quite a bit of that, Nami-ya, and yet Iâm not noticing any signs of inebriation. It seems Mugiwara wasnât exaggerating when he bragged about your tolerance.â
âPlease, this is nothingâZoro and I could drink whole taverns dry and still walk a straight line. Hell, it was one of my favorite ways to swindle pirates; get in good with the crew, outdrink them, then swipe their treasure while they were all passed out.â
âInteresting. You may be physically weak, but your liver sounds formidable.â
The lights, dimmed, and Nami glanced around curiously. Law chuckled, drawing her closer and pointing towards the stage. âLooks like the showâs about to start,â he murmured in her ear as he settled in, the arm around her waist telling her that she wasnât moving for at least the duration of the song.
The band played a low, steady beat as a handsome man in a white silk blazer escorted a curvaceous woman with bold red hair wearing a silver dress onto the stage, the spotlights hitting the sequins in a way that nearly distracted from the daring slit and sexy black garters underneath. Turning her back to the crowd, she swayed her hips to the rhythm as the man took the microphone.
âGood evening, Ladies and Gentlemen,â he drawled, tossing the crowd a smirk that could give Lawâs a run for its money. âWeâve got a great night in store for you. I see a lot of new faces out thereâas well as some familiar onesâso Iâm not gonna yammer on too long. I want you to sit back, enjoy the service, the scenery, but most of all, enjoy the show.â
As he finished, he signaled to the band, who immediately transitioned into a smooth but lively tune, Hiroshiâs saxophone front-and-center, and the red-haired woman turned around, sensually dancing with the emcee as he began to sing.
It ainât no big thing to wait for the bell to ring It ainât no big thing The toll of the bell
Aggravated, spare for days I troll downtown the red-light place
Jump up bubble up - whatâs in store? Love is the drug and I need to score
Enthralled, Nami watched as the pair performed, the song turning into a duet as they moved, the womanâs low, husky voice sending a thrill down her back. Or perhaps it was Lawâs fingers stroking idly along her sideâfar from his groping in the alley, but the light touch was just as hot. Thighs clenched as the male singer bent the woman over suggestively, and she hoped Law was too focused on the show to notice her aroused blush. She didnât want to imagine herself and the Supernova next to her in their place, but with the womanâs red hair and the manâs cocky smirk, it was really difficult not to picture the sensual scene the song suggestedâher and Law stumbling around a dark room, locked in a passionate embrace, until finally they made it to the bedâŚ
God, she joked about Drake being repressed to give in to an asshole like Law, but clearly, she was just as pent-up.
When the song ended, Nami let out a breath she hadnât realized she was holding, quickly going for her refilled champagne, gulping it down to wet her suddenly dry mouth. She hadnât even realized Hansuke had refreshed their drinks as she hadnât been able to pry her eyes from the stage, too lost in the song and her fantasy.
Out of the corner of her eye she noticed Law smirking in an all-too-knowing manner, but before he could comment, they were once more interrupted, only this time by the gorgeous singer who had left the stage to visit their table.
âCaptain Trafalgar,â the red-haired woman purred, voice husky with an edge of a rough accent that somehow made her even more glamourous, âI heard you were back in town.â
âExcellent opening act, Haiko-ya, as usual,â Law replied, standing up to gallantly kiss her hand. âOscar may be your prized vocalist, but everyone knows youâre the real star up there.â
âYou charmer. Still sure you donât want to quit piracy and come work for me?â she asked with an inviting smile. âI could use a man of your talents.â
âIâm sure you could, but as much as I like this club, staying in one place just doesnât appeal to me. I like to wander, you know.â
âPity, but you canât blame a woman for trying. After all, who wouldnât want a skilled doctor and enforcer on her payroll? Especially with my husbandâsâŚaccident,â she replied, tone suddenly going sour.
âI assume Jinzoâs challenging your claim to Kimo-yaâs share of the business?â
âOh, heâs doing more than thatâheâs trying to compete against my business. Opening his own club and even a few brothels so he can steal my clienteleârumor has it thatâs why heâs being so stingy with his black market clients. His recent investments have put him in the red, and he heâs going to have to do something drastic to recoup the cost.â
For a brief moment Law frowned, though his lips soon turned back up into his calculating, sadistic grin. âUntil then, his broken promises could earn him quite a few enemies.â
âOh yes. I hear X Drake in particular was extremely pissed that Jinzo didnât have his money today.â
âHe was even more so when I told him that thereâs no way heâd planned on paying his asking price.â
Haiko tsked. âOh dear. It would be such a shame if some frustrated client were to cross Jinzoâs path before his latest business venture can properly take off.â
Behind them, Nami swallowed audibly, catching onto their intentions. Law glanced at her over his shoulder before returning his attention to Haiko. âNowâs not a great time to talk business, but perhaps we could continue our chat after the show. Jinzoâs trying to screw over a lot of treacherous people, myself included, and while Iâm not interested in your job offer, Iâd be happy to negotiate a deal that could benefit us both greatly.â
Her blood red lips curled upwards, eyes alight with interest. âMeet me in my office at nine-thirty sharpâit would be a pleasure doing business with you.â
âBefore you go, I want to introduce you to my date,â he drawled, gently tugging Nami out of her seat. âHaiko-ya, this is Cat Thief Nami.â
âAh, the woman who swindled Jinzo out of a lot of money,â the businesswoman replied, pleased smile fixated on the younger woman as she shook her hand.
âDoes everybody know about that?â Nami squeaked.
âOh, darling, it was the best piece of news Iâve heard all day. And not everyone knowsâyet. I just happen to have a few eyes and ears stationed close to him so he doesnât try to do to me what he did to my darling Kimo. I may not be able to prove he was involved, but it never hurts to be ready for anything.â
âVery true,â Law agreed. âSo, Iâll see you at nine-thirty?â
Haiko blew him a kiss as she sauntered off. âAbsolutely. And as thanks for embarrassing that piece of shit, your drinks are on me tonight. Keep it up, Miss Cat Thief, and you might just earn a VIP membership here, too.â
Nami couldnât keep herself from staring as the woman left. Beautiful and glamourous though she was, she totally believed Haiko was the sort who would slit a manâs throat with a smile. She had a dangerous aura about her, and given how casually she and Law spoke, Nami was certain an ill wind was blowing.
âYou two are going to do something to Jinzo, arenât you?â she asked, sweat prickling at the back of her neck. She had no sympathy for the man, but she hoped whatever Law was planning didnât involve her; the last thing she wanted was to get caught in the middle of an underworld power struggle.
âMmmm, donât worry your pretty little head over that, sweetheart,â Law purred as he tugged her towards the stage. His eyes were half-lidded and inviting, and Namiâs breath caught in her throat as her heart stuttered. Maybe it was just the aftereffects of Haikoâs performance, but the heat between her legs begged her not to resist him. âIkkakuâs due to steal you away from me soon, so Iâm not wasting another second.â
âWhat are you doing?â she asked, voice barely more than a whisper.
One hand clasped hers as the other wrapped around her lower back. âIt dawned on me that, with how busy you were pick-pocketing rich assholes at the gala, I never got a dance with you. Weâre going to remedy that. And wouldnât you know it?â he rasped, leaning in so close his lips ever-so-slightly brushed her ear. âTheyâre about to play my song.â
Though initially thrown by his sudden change of tone and forwardness, Nami quickly realized from the feeling of hard wood beneath their feet that heâd led them onto the dancefloor. Before she could protest or break away, Hiroshi noticed them, tossing a wink and pointing them out to the male singer from earlier. Oscar quietly chuckled as he handed over the microphone, even giving a playful bow before stepping over to a xylophone.
âLadies and Gentlemen, we are graced with the presence of the man who inspired this next song, the one and only Dr. Heart Stealer!â
As the music began, Law swept her into a dance, easily leading her in time to the lively beat.
Why is everyone so impatient? Recklessly jumping into things Crushing backstabbing
To achieve your goal Sometimes you just need to dive deep, hide yourself Scan the situation, thatâs all
Welcome to Trafalgarâs ROOM Look into the mirror and see Are you who you really are? Welcome to Trafalgarâs ROOM Shall I steal whatâs most precious to you?
Dr. Heart Stealer
Once youâre addicted, you can never escapeâŚ
As Hiroshi crooned the lyrics, Nami forced herself to focus on keeping pace with Law, and not on the surprising suggestiveness of the lyrics or the heat of the doctorâs palm on her exposed back. There were mere inches between themâenough space to properly move, but still so close that their breaths and body heat mingled. He was a surprisingly good dancer, too, gently guiding her across the polished floor in time to the beat, giving the occasional spin and dip, all while those golden, hungry eyes never left hers.
If somethingâs important, hide it away Once you shout about it out loud Itâs just too naive, so sickening
Waiting is not a futile thing With enough clinical data You wonât make a mistake, thereâll be no trouble
Welcome to Trafalgarâs ROOM Itâll be over once your spaceâs safety is breached Welcome to Trafalgarâs ROOM Because I know whatâs most precious to you
Dr. Heart Stealer
Once I set my target, Iâll definitely get it
Donât run away, come join me Show me how you dance
Welcome to Trafalgarâs ROOM Look into the mirror and see Are you who you really are? Welcome to Trafalgarâs ROOM Shall I steal whatâs most precious to you?
Dr. Heart Stealer
Once youâre addicted, you can never escapeâŚ
At last the song came to an end, and while Nami wanted to blame her breathlessness on the dancing, she knew at least a little of it had to do with the way Law was looking at her. His intense stare sizzled her skin pleasantly, and she had no choice but to admit that, as much as she wanted to fight it, the song was right.
If she let herself get addicted to him, sheâd never escape.

A Chevalierâs Promise - Chapter 3
Ainchase Ishmael x Ciel (Bluhen/Chevalier)
AO3 Link:Â https://archiveofourown.org/works/23959063
Fanfiction Summary: To the outside world of Elrios, the Steel Queen and the newly appointed Grand Duke Ishmael have announced their engagement. Many speculate it was love at first sight; in reality, they have merely forged a political alliance to stabilize their respective reigns. Ciel, aside from his typical obligations as Her Majestyâs knight, must ensure things go smoothly with the alliance. Yet upon meeting a peculiar fellow, he soon realizes the troubles surrounding the Grand Duke are more than they appear.
The countryside strolled past them as the horses walked along the old path. The last time Ciel saw a normal tree was years ago. The vegetation in the Demon Realm delved into shades of blue, purple, but never green. Alas, the atmosphere inside the carriage was less than desirable. Sir Bluhen sat across from Ciel. Meanwhile, Lu and the Grand Duke shared the carriage in front of theirs.
âHave I caught your eye?â Sir Bluhen smirked as he continued to gaze out from the small window.
âWhy did you insist on this arrangement?â
âI think youâre quite special,â Sir Bluhen said.
âWhat do you mean?â
âI like you. A lot.â He turned to face Ciel and crossed his legs. âBy the way, please call me Ainchase from now on. Ain is also fine.â
â...A fake name?â
âBluhen is an alias.â Sir Ain chuckled. âI also donât need even more strange looks from the priestesses.
âI see.â
âYouâve heard about the assassins from Richter, right? Thatâs where you come in. Your qualifications are quite good.â
âThere must be a reason for not using one of your people to-â
âWith the... enemy around, we have to resort to our own methods.â
Ciel raised an eyebrow. Sir Ainchase leaned back, smiling at Cielâs expression.
âRegardless, weâll be seeing each other more often.â
Ciel sighed before returning his attention to the outside.
***
In the textbooks, the capital city was drawn as a solemn figure, standing like a picturesque relic of history. As they neared the entrance, the landscape warped and proved those textbooks were incorrect. The supposed white walls, tall buildings, and a single tower were nowhere in sight. Instead, a strangeness encroached; part of the brilliant blue sky turned into something akin to peeling paint. Beneath such was a mixture of purple and black. The wrongness was neither a darkness, nor something Ciel saw from the Demon Realm.
âSo you see it,â Sir Ainchase said. âThat is the result of the enemyâs movements.â
âSurely you must have a good explanation.â
âReality, space itself really, has been changed into a troublesome obstacle. Perhaps corrupted is a better word.â
âThen how will we pass through? Will we need to eventually fight this corruption?â
Sir Ainchase shook his head. âHopefully, we can avoid such a situation. As for the former, just watch.â
Both carriages were brought to a halt; Ciel looked out the window. They were at the edge of a barrier made from distorted space. He heard of it before in the reports, but the spies still managed to infiltrate and gather intel. One of them even mapped out the possible entrances. Their current location, however, was not one of those supposed areas. The Grand Duke left his carriage and approached the barrier. Stopping before it, he raised his hand. A white, glass-like sword began to form. The swordâs elegance and distinct shape was unlike any blade Ciel had seen with his own eyes. With the blade, the Grand Duke cleaved the barrier. It cut through the warped space and created a passageway. The weapon dissipated, and he returned to his carriage.
âItâs a shame he has to do that every time,â Sir Ainchase commented.
Once the second carriage passed through, the space bended to seal the hole.
In the growing silence, Ciel recalled a previous conversation with Lu. It was one of their many discussions of how Grand Duke Richter was able to take control of the duchy. They had heard he owned a particular weapon: Fßnft ¡ Glänzendes Schwert, the Shining Fifth Sword. Its original wielder was a minor god who directly served Goddess Ishmael. To their dismay, the records only mentioned this minor god as the Divine Executor.
âDivine right certainly persuades a lot of people,â Lu had mused, setting aside her teacup. âHence why Timoriaâs backing from Angra Mainyu was used as a reason against my claim to the throne.â
Ciel skimmed the excerpt written on the document again. ââI am the Judge who stands in the full light of Ishmaelâs providence. To impose the Goddessâs will is my duty. Come forth, FĂźnft ¡ Glänzendes Schwert,ââ he read aloud.
Lu giggled. âHow dramatic. Yet supposing such a thing does exist, I wonder how it shall do against our Sefirot Phantasma.â
âI shudder at the amount of cleanup I would have to do,â he had muttered.
Now, the two men regrouped with the Grand Duke and Lu. She flapped her wings and began to float off the ground.
âIs that how you will greet the priestesses?â
âIâm going to pretend I didnât hear anything, Grand Duke.â
Ciel swallowed his exasperation. âYour Majesty, please return to His Graceâs side. I doubt a loverâs quarrel will get us anywhere.â
She realized what he meant, scowled, then landed next to the Grand Duke. Lu held out her hand to him.
âDear, may I ask you to be my escort for today?â
âI understand.â He took her hand in his own.
Sir Ainchase cleared his throat. âYou two deal with the priestesses. Sir Ciel and I have our own date to do.â
He dragged Ciel in another direction, waving goodbye to the Grand Duke and Lu. Before Ciel could ask anything, Sir Ainchase began to explain the history of the duchy and various buildings. He pointed out services such as the alchemist, the blacksmith, an accessory shop. Ciel was thankful Sir Ainchase let go of his arm while they strolled. The marble statues, the canals, the gilded accents on the architecture were intricate. It had its charm, but Ciel preferred the Demon Realm or Lanox. The latter was a faded memory from his childhood, but he could never forget the smell of smoke or the crackling fires from the forges. He, Abysser, and Anular planned to visit that place again but never could set aside the time.
â...Sir Ciel?â
Ciel blinked, seeing Sir Ainchaseâs perplexed look. âMy apologies. What were you saying?â
âWould you like to see the Giant El?â
They had stopped at the entrance of the El Tower. The spiesâ report mentioned a giant rock housed in the interior of this facility. Ciel scanned his surroundings. There was a lack of knights and servants even.
âFor something so important, should you not have more personnel?â
âUnfortunately, I am the personnel. Donât worry, the priestesses also have a duty of guarding the Giant El if Iâm away.â
As they entered, a hooded figure was there to greet them. Dressed in golden and aquamarine garments, she bowed before Sir Ainchase.
âWelcome back.â Her voice was gentle like a flowing spring.
âIs everything going well, Lady Sasha?â
She nodded. âNothing out of the ordinary. Who is this?â
Ciel bowed. âMy name is Ciel, servant to Queen Luciela R. Sourcream.â
Sasha frowned when he said Luâs name.
âHer Majesty is with Richter right now. Why donât you meet them since Iâm here now?â Sir Ainchase winked.
âAll right. Please, excuse me.â She rushed off before casting another look at Ciel.
âDoes she not like Demons?â
âI donât know. Now then, this way.â
Ciel followed him, and several corridors later, they arrived in a single room. In the center was the Giant El. The crystal sat upon a floating pedestal-like object, surrounded by winged statues. A teal-whitish glow emanated from the Giant El; the color was similar to the Grand Dukeâs hair.
Sir Ainchase gazed at the El. âIâm still in disbelief that Richter and I are still here.â
âHow so?â
âRestoring the Giant El should have killed us. But as you can see, weâre still here.â
âIf you do not mind me asking then, who or what saved you?â
âThe Holy Creator, Elria. In exchange, I am his servant now.â Sir Ainchase shrugged. âRichter can enforce the Goddessâs will in my stead.â He turned his attention back to the El; the smile on his face did not quite reach his eyes. The beginning of a palpable solemness emerged from his shadow.Â
âI see. Your gods are quite different from those in the Demon Realm.â
â...Letâs talk about your actual duties here. Formally speaking, you are Richterâs bodyguard. So when needed, youâll be by his side. No different than protecting Her Majesty.â He paused. âOtherwise, youâll act as an assistant to his advisor. His advisor, of course, being me.â
âI suppose we can figure out a schedule.â
âRight. So, our first mission. Since thereâs only me, Richter, and the priestesses, weâre limited in terms of who can go where, donât you think?â
âYes, Iâm quite concerned about the⌠lack of servants and guards.â
Sir Ainchase waved his hand in a dismissive fashion. âWe donât need more of them. What we need are the El Masters, the humans who should be actually guarding the Giant El.â
âI donât think I can be of much help in training El Masters.â
âOh, no, no, no. Weâre going to be finding the El Masters.â
