the premise of deuce wanting to take a gap year to explore the world feels almost like a call back to the end of monster high 2. i think its a nice bit of characterization for him. and we got the name of his sisters!! (altho i had trouble making them out. yariley? steena?) is deuce the baby of the family???

its kinda wild to hear from clawdeen that humans and monsters cant co exist. like girl. ur dad. im not saying it doesnt make sense for her to believe that having grown up feeling so alienated in the human world but it makes me kinda sad. im sure thats the lesson of the day anyway but idk it struck me as kind of a subtly tragic moment revealing how resentful and distant clawdeen feels towards humanity, whether or not that was like intentional on the writers parts. anyway.

lagoona rules and this is such a fun ep for her. love seeing her get all aggro and competitive.

ohh extremely good little speech from lagoona too. and honestly a more mature moment than i expected from this ep overall. mh invokes a lot of these "monster conflicts as metaphors for real world conflicts" plotlines but they usually do the typical kids show thing where both sides are at least partially in the wrong or else the whole thing is based on a misunderstanding. with that in mind, lagoona even being allowed to be mad about the injustice done against her people, understanding that gill isnt personally responsible but also that his inaction continues to perpetuate harm done against them, is pretty bold. i dont know if mh will stick the landing here but im rooting for them.

aw look at gill making the right choice!! love the decision to have him admit that like while he wasnt acting out of malice, he was being deliberately ignorant to what was going on because he didnt want to admit that his family couldve been complicit in the theft of something clearly sacred to the seamonster folk. once again a strong choice!
