Weekly Update October 6, 2023

I’ve been very volatile this week, which may continue next week or may not. I don’t know yet. I’ve been on weird cycles of doing a ton of art then doing nothing for a few days. It will probably continue.

So October is started and I’m an impulsive little greedy fuck so I decided to do three different prompt sets, but I’m doing them all differently. OG inktober is getting priority, because I feel bad about failing inktober 52 earlier this year. Maybe I’ll ink or digitize the few of those sketches that I never finished once I’m done, or maybe I won’t. Anywho I’m trying to do inktober daily, more or less. Second priority is goretober, because I need practice and also with life stuff being still weirdly volatile despite all I’ve done, bloody pictures are really cathartic. I’m tagging everything to be extra safe, even though I’m honestly probably over tagging. Idk day one was mouth stuff which really sets some people off so maybe I was overly cautious because of that, but I’d rather be over cautious than get in trouble. Lowest priority prompt set is cringetober, because even though I just kind of avoid most of the stuff on the list naturally due to personal distaste, I still appreciate the spirit of it. Cringe always has a place, even if that place isn’t on my monitor specifically. I’m not doing every prompt from that list because some of them I really can’t figure out anything Oc related (deadass almost gave up for ‘overly complex fit’ and drew Shulk Xenoblade and his ugly ass outfit instead, but decided against it because that’s against the spirit of the prompt set). I still want to fit in as many as I can, and even though most of those will be late, I’m still going to try. At a minimum I want to do the MS paint one that sounds fun.

Also I threw in a random drawing of Stitch this week. Maybe I’ll do other random drawings too, probably not. I’m already pretty behind on stuff.

So I’ve mentioned I’ve been slacking off with TRGA the past couple weeks but I’m trying to get myself back together with it. I’m trying to figure out timing a bit better, and I did finally get some assets I’ve been procrastinating on done. Jon now has actual soles to his feet, and soon Emile will have the sketch lines I’ve been trying to lean into with my art. I can recolor the foot sole asset for Tim and Emile also, although they won’t need it for this animation. I’m mostly at this point messing with actual movement timing and strategies to make the boys more distinct from one another, although I’m probably overthinking it admittedly. The current shot, 1-4, is by far my most complex in this regard, and may be the most complex of the animation, so chances are I’ll post a WIP once the ‘main’ character animation is done. Or maybe not. I’m not sure.

This week hasn’t been the best for personal life so my mood is extremely volatile, so there’s no guarantee anything will be consistent. My plan is to do one inktober drawing and one keyframe/batch of tweens/chunk of work a day for TRGA done every day, and then the additional prompt sets and/or general drawings done whenever possible, but I’m such a mess I can’t guarantee anything. I’m trying to get stuff together with doctors, since they have been telling me pretty good news, but my primary today said something that, while it would be great news, contradicts what a specialist told me. She did outright say to double check with the specialist since they were probably right, but you know how hard it is to get ahold of doctors for that so now I need to worry about that. I’m a mess this semester isn’t going very well, and tomorrow I’ll probably end up doing music instead of art which will suck because I probably won’t have anything to show for that for a while yet.

Inktober 2022: A reflection

This year I did Luna ‘s (who is an amazing artist!! Check them out on Twitter!!) Inktober. Spoiler, I did not do all the days as I got sick halfway through and then just stopped lol. However, it was remarkable good practice and I learned a lot! One might say you can see me improving 👀 It gets better, promise!

I don't like this one... The concept is there, but the execution is sloppy and kinda off-putting. The only thing I kinda like it the blood at the very top opening.

I’m torn bc on one hand the background is stunning, I love the colors. On the other hand, this would have looked too much better lineless, and the lens sky reflection is just lazy and doesn't fit with the rest of the style.

GHOST CRAB!! I downloaded some new brushes, and it was just sooo much fun. 

17. Meadow

I really like everything except the “flowers”. The clouds and background/foundation is solid, but the weird flower brush is too sharp and it just doesn't work. Also, the colors of the flowers are supposed to be in shade and idk man 

18. Examination

Now this one could make more sense, like perspective wise and the highlights are a bit wack. However, it's really cool and I like it a lot. The bluish tint for the glass, the goldish bronze, the background yes!!

19. Reflection

The poses for this kept just not working out. I couldn't get the angles, nothing made sense, so I made them silhouettes! And it works nicely. I like this one. I am kinda starting to overuse that background contrast thingy, but it's fiiiiiinnnne. Also, the curtain??? The red pops so well hello, its just bam, and it deserves to do that. 

20. Bullet

It's a bullet train! Get it? Anyway, I really like the burn effect for this one and I wanted to make it a spooky train. One thing I'd improve is how the likes are fading into the smoke, it doesn't look quite right.

22. Bones

This is kinda my burnout point and it shows. The line thickness is all over the place, I didn't work on this very much and just slapped some things on there and put it up. I'd love to draw a proper pile of bones someday, but this wasn't it.

23. Mutation

I do kinda like this one, and I don't have any major complaints. I just remember not really feeling doing Art™ at that time.

29. Wyvern

I sketched this the next day and was so normal about it. Idk if this is really a Wyvern, but it looks cool! I really like the frame and breaking it. It gives a nice break and depth!

I think it was originally October bc there was inktober which was originally a challenge of spooky prompts leading up to Halloween. Ppl then started doing variations to fit their own tastes leading to a variety of “tobers”

There are other events and challenges like this, such as MerMay or even nanowrimo, but they’ve gotten less popular as time goes on. There’s still some fandom specific events like this organized (like ppl will organize a special week to make content for a specific fandom or ship with prompts) which can actually be a ton of fun. but honestly any sort of prompt challenge like this, wheather it’s fandom specific or more general art/writing/creating challenge has become less and less common

In all honesty I think the answer is that more people simply need to organize things like this! I feel like as fandom and online communities have been made so much more temporary by the fact that so much of fandom has moved to places like tik tok and instagram where everything is algorithmic hellscapes, so as soon as something stops being relevant the fandom dies. plus with shows dropping full seasons at once fandoms will die out even faster. Challanges like this don’t take a ton of planning or anything but they tended to be a yearly sort of event, but people aren’t staying in online communities long enough anymore for these kinds of events to even have time to organize one. And less people seeing them and knowing they exist means less people getting the idea to make them.

Plus idk from what I’ve seen on tik tok (it’s terrible over there I’m not memeing the algorithm just. Like gentrified everything. Gentrify isn’t the correct word but it feels the most correct to my sleep deprived brain.) a lot of fandoms are becoming less communities and more just seen as content. Where it used to be like everyone in fandom is mostly on the same level and you make connections with people so you feel comfortable making these sorts of challenges now I see a lot of a very weird like. Consumerist mindset in fandom culture (obviously not like everyone or anything but it’s becoming concerningly prevalent)

Ultimately I think the answer to wanting more challenges at different times of the year is to set one up yourself! Make a couple cute looking prompt calanders, share them around and ask your friends to do the same. Sometimes a week can be more manageable than a month but they’re fun. I wish more people would run them but I also understand why they don’t (usually bc they’re busy, like I am lol)

Ok so

I decided to include a little bit under the posts this year to kinda talk about the arts and stuff because it's fun and a lot of these have funny meanings sjsksnjsjaskak

ALSO some of them will inevitably have HSS spoilers because these are all based on sys shit and so is HSS so uhhhhh

I'll include the tag hss spoilers or something if u don't want to see it.

Yes they are the same colors as last time, I literally color picked them from the old images LSJAJKAK

You may be wondering why mr green man looks so different, it's just the funny little "nogard form" or a dark world form just + horns and ears because reasons (For context, Nogard is an extension of headspace that is just an entire planet with a ton of shit, like the "main four" alters (by main four I mean like, the alters who where prominent when we discovered we where a system so they're like, important? In Nogard's creation.) They have entire kingdoms. The Acid Jungle is Codi's, the Endless Abyss is Pearl's, the Sun's Ocean is KN's, and the Lunar Planes are Truth's. Kris was just basically made big boss of the whole thing (because nobody was confident enough to try to take them down from leader position that they gained by fucking murdering people lmao), so they just kinda watch over the entire world? It's crazy but like, I'm not going the one to piss them off so- /hj) it's also been setting to a bit of VATP content. That's probably where it's known idk when I've ever posted about it outside of that. And yes it's technically a dark world since the main people responsible for it's existence are Deltarune fictives)

So the main idea for this one is sort of a play on the prompt. Since it's gargoyle, the immediate reaction is to draw the whole damn dragon. But it goes deeper then that. Since Pearl (the dragon) was basically the first split tm made to literally fight people, she's like the ultimate protector. So running on that I decided to add the current protector also, who is Sal. (Pearl barely fronts anymore so even if she is a protector, she isn't THE protector.) There is actually another protector in sys but I didn't feel like drawing them. (LMAO get fucked.) For no reason more then I really just didn't feel like drawing a whole nother person.

And I thought it would be cool if it was scary so that's why there's a smile on the face screen thing

It really stands out. I think I was planning to make Pearl's eyes glow but haha oops that didn't happen oh well.

I really haven't drawn Pearl's big wof dragon form in a while. Though it is THE iconic appearance she takes on, she's not a direct fictive of any character, more of like, oc fictive? I've heard that can be a thing so there you go. She fits into the world but isn't an existing character. She also will be a cat. Just a cat

hey! question for you: do you have a hard time keeping motivation while writing fanfic? I’m thinking about maybe possibly writing my own LotR fanfic after Christmas, but idk if I’d be able to keep the motivation 🥲 I’m having fun writing for the secret Santa thing but I also don’t want to put too much pressure on myself. I miss posting my writing stuff on here but idk if I’d get any requests/interaction lol

I say go for it! My motivation isn't constant with writing or any other of my hobbies, i just hyper-fixate on it randomly through the year, which is why when Inktober came around I made my own prompt list and was popping them out like popcorn! But soon i'll lose the motivation and move on to something else (it'll probably be reading as i have new books to read but don't have the motivation)

So i say definitely go for it, and if you don't want to have a lot of pressure on yourself, you can keep a specific set of rules for requests and have 'em open for maybe a week or so each time! And the more you write the more people will read your stuff and interact with it and maybe request things! So it would never hurt to try, and you don't have to write 5k one-shots or a 50 part series, you can write several small fics or drabbles if and whenever the motivation hits!

I loved reading your headcanons about the different characters, and would enjoy even more of your writing 💕

This post contains chicken on Walrus doodles, lots of touching faces, mustache shenanigans and grooming, inktober plans, surprisingly many parental moments (?) etc.

Under the cut, because this is another very long post!

Old plans for the “chickens on the Walrus” serie (2016) inspired by [THIS]  @balloonstand​​’s post (s4 ideas) where The Walrus crew aquires lots of chickens and here are some scenes I imagined could further happen, lol.

The fluffy chicken and those rubber ones were a hot thing at the time, so I tried to incorporate them somehow xD Also I think only one person “got” my joke of “c*ck between his legs” but I guess it was also because I didn’t really draw a proper rooster... Here the chicken have occupied the cabin and are looking at maps:

Max trying to console Anne while Jack looks, snuggled in a hammock. This was right after the episode 7 of season 4 and I had no idea how things would go - but I wanted them to make amends :) I like this sketch more because the end result (2017) became quite murky and blurry :/ (I think my screen wasn’t calibrated properly, lol)

I drew this in 2016 and I remember how paranoid I was after the series ended (in 2017) because I was so afraid that some anti-silver people would be mad if they stumbled on this and didn’t read the caption properly and somehow took this like I was trying to replace Thomas (yeah I know I was overthinking things wayyy too much but things were quite heated after the finale).

But anyway, the sad hidden truth is that the ref for this was the moment when Flint is grieving Mr Gates in s1 and holding his body... and I drew this because I was just wishing there would be at least a hug in season 4 (because who else would be there to hug Flint now that Miranda was gone too? Well now we know!). Still wish there had been also a silverflint hug...

Now moving on!

“That’s my wee lad, Gimli.” (2017) This is one of the early drafts for Woodes Rogers and captain Berringer. Idk why, but I laughed when he was looking at that locket in the show and it reminded me of the Hobbit movie scene with Legolas and Glóin... Woodes regrets asking about the locket, lol. This was around the same time as the MaxAnneJack+hammock, because the lantern is very similar here. And I was drawing these right after the episodes.

Next, the grooming shop at the Nassau’s market (2019):

as you can see, the original sketch was mirrored. Another one, thinking about the values and adding Anne:

There were other versions too. One where Flint is twirling Thomas’ (?) new mustache and one where Flint is playing with Silver’s hair/mustache while they are in bed, one with Jack and his mustache and one where the Brothel Blackbeard, Silver (still clean faced bb) and Max have fun after the orgy with fake mustaches made of their long dark curly hair and Jack stumbles on them (shocked, when he wasn’t asked to join) - but the timelines were all over the place and one art was enough, lol. Although this idea grew into another piece with Flint, Thomas and Silver but I have not finished it yet.

This is original plan I had for the Abigail and Miranda piece (2018):

The ref was from the show but for some reason I ended up changing quite a lot. Although I like the colours and the ship in this one a bit more than the final result.

I just realised that this post has a lot of touching people’s faces! xD

As does this one too, lol. (finally posted the finished art in 2021)

The original working title was “PinkyChair” because the idea was that Flint was tied to the chair and Silver was teasing him, but Flint still managed to touch with his pinky, lol.

The parallels, lol ~ This is just a sketch with no further development. It had something to do with the funny pose when 1) Flint is fighting Teach on the beach and falls on his back, leg kicked straight up 2) and what if Silver used his peg leg as an extra blade when he and Flint were training.

Next, some plans for inktober 2017. I was planning to draw Anne and was trying to figure out which prompt would fit. I brainstormed almost all the prompts so I wouldn’t have to spend time thinking about them daily during the month, but never really got into it after all.

Some ideas I did use later, tho, like the De Groot and “SCREECH”:

Same batch, prompt “TRAIL” (Dooley and Flint carrying the treasure chest and Silver, Israel and company going after them). 

The next sketch is quite old (and never continued) and had something to do with the interview where Toby talked about eating his kids candies secretly or something? and how hard he found lying to his mom about things? I don’t quite remember anymore. But of course here’s a combination of Captain Flint and his mom, the dowager from Downton Abbey, heh.

So... I can’t in good conscience support Inktober this year, based on the recent and continued actions of it’s organizer. (Not going to get into the ‘why’ in this post; there’s plenty of information available online, but I do encourage my fellow artist friends to really do their research this year and make an informed opinion first before diving in without the facts.)

I know there’s a lot of hot takes on this drawing challenge, but I actually enjoyed it and wanted so badly to be able to 100% complete it one year... However stressful it may have seemed at the time, it was also really motivating to be be part of such a large event. It so was inspiring and interesting to see what such a large pool of artists interpreted the different prompts as - and to see so many others working hard alongside you. Idk, I just feel let down?? I know there’s other lists and events, but everything feels so disjointed now. I’ll miss the sense of community and ‘common goal’ I felt with that particular challenge. This just sucks. Why does every good thing have to get ruined? 😔

(Sidenote: All the artwork I created under that challenge is still definitely staying up and I still encourage people to still like/share it if they feel so inclined! I’m so proud of those pieces, especially given the time constraints I made them in. <3 At the end of the day, the artwork is mine and mine alone, so hashtag or not it doesn’t matter.)

BUT ON TO HAPPIER NEWS! My intent is to still participate in an October art challenge -- but of my own creation! I’ll be tagging these drawings as “Krystober!” lol!

*cough* Okay, so they will actually consist of a combination of "SinfullyNalu”, Linktober, and OC-tober! Something else will be sprinkled in, but those will be surprises. Still gunna use that tag though, cause I love it. ;D

4. who gets more riled up? do they show their anger? 

  Kaidan’s typically pretty calm when it comes to Valen, so I’ll give this one to Valen. Even then, she’s hard to rile up when it comes to him because she’s so patient and never wants to blow up at him if it can be helped. She’s only done it once and they fight rarely. She does show her anger, but she’s not mean to him by any means. She tries to show it calmly and work things out with him, and come to a compromise. 

17. who cries more? who gets more emotional in general?

  VALEN LMAO. She’s a crybaby lowkey. But Kai might tear up a bit if she’s having a full-on meltdown, especially if he’s the cause. He hates seeing her cry. They’re both emotional but Valen’s much more open about it. So she’ll always let Kai know how she’s feeling, which eventually leads to him doing the same but in private and not as grandiose as her. 

19. how about teasing? do they tease each other while in a fight (whether it be with themselves or just general teasing)?

  If it’s over something minor, yeah they will. It’s usually Kai trying to crack a joke or two to make her smile if she’s getting over emotional about some minor misunderstanding. It helps bring her back to Earth so she appreciates it. She’ll also tease him sometimes if he’s getting aggravated over something mundane, and that’ll usually defuse the situation pretty quickly. 

34. what scent reminds them of the other?

  I think I answered this before in an old ask but I shall answer again. Cedar often reminds Valen of Kaidan, either because it’s what he smells like sometimes or it’s just a comforting smell to her when he’s not around. Lavender and/or juniper remind Kai of Valen - most herbs will, but these two, in particular, will make his thoughts drift to her- because she always smells like juniper and her favorite flower is lavender. 

50. if one of them were to come back after a long time, who would come to who? would it go well? would the other person take them back?

  I’m not sure if you mean like after a breakup or something but I’ll assume that’s what you mean? It would probably be Valen going to Kai, to be honest. Depending on why they broke up, like if it were mutual or because Kaidan did something she didn’t like, I think it would go well and he would take her back. But if they ended it on bad terms, which I can’t really see happening but this is hypothetical, it’d be awkward but Kaidan wouldn’t necessarily turn her away. But he wouldn’t take her back, at least not right away. It would take a while.

Prompt: AU

Camelot's Prince was born of magic.

Arthur Pendragon knew this since he could remember, even if his parents hadn't told him, he felt the power of a priestess of the Old Religion deep inside of him, impossible to ignore and to subdue.

The Great Emrys was magic itself.

Merlin, on the contrary, never knew the real extent of his powers, at least not until he stepped inside the walls of Camelot, where he found out how fate had chosen to treat him.

 

If they were to fight against eachother they could probably annihilate themselves, as they were probably the most powerful people alive.

But even  destiny sometimes seems to make mistakes, because since the moment they first saw eachother, the two felt as if some invisible string was pulling them together, as if they were meant to fight the whole world side by side, the idea of going against one another impossible to even consider as an option.

And as it turns out, together they were unstoppable.

 It is this way that the current priestess was defeated and killed.

And it is this way, that Camelot quickly expanded, conquering all the other kingdoms without mercy or negotiations.

The two of them, ruling over land and magic alike, destroying any uprising or opposition, because they learned easily that they could only trust eachother, no exception, no room for doubt.

They could destroy the world and make it their own.

I always loved dark!Merthur, but could never find much, so I made my own!!

I have been thinking about this prompt of mine for a long time, an AU where everything seems to be fine and sunny at first, as Nimueh gave her own life to create Arthur, thus keeping Ygraine alive and magic legal.

But it's not as good as it looks, because Nimueh's magic transfers to Arthur, whom gets corrupt easily by it.

Merlin's role is the same in here, and makes the same mistake he does in canon: instead of caring for Albion as his first priority, he always puts Arthur on top (maybe more literally than you might think *cough cough*) and also gets consumed by his love for him and dark magic.

This is like 4 days late cuz the power went out while I was doing this and it stayed off for days lmao thanks pg&e anyway 

I followed VLD since 2016 and am veeery fond of sheith. As a form of self-care, I decided to completely disregard the existence of season 8 and I daydreamed a  sappy, romantic ending I would’ve liked to see and am accepting as canon. GAY RIGHTS.

In a nutshell, Shiro and Keith get together and live on Earth. But you can’t tie down a space exploring power couple to one planet, so they go off with the Blade of Marmora. In this picture, they’re dancing to Fly Me to the Moon, celebrating their (kind-of) elopement and new life together.

I wrote a rough outline and bolded the main points. It’s long, so if you want to read it, buckle up and hit that Keep Reading!

Picking up from what little I remember of season 7 cuz I watched it the day it aired in 2018:

After the big battle with the Galra, everyone is chillin. Shiro is officially captain of the Atlas and Keith is like hell yeah I’m the Black Paladin! Idk whatever stuff they did to conclude the fight with the Galra, but I guess they did that. 

Idk why they killed Allura, but that doesn’t fuckin happen. Everyone is happy!

They eventually settle into their new roles on Earth with Pidge/Katie working as a head of the tech department with the Holts. Hunk and Lance handle diplomatic/relief affairs. Allura becomes the queen of the Alteans they found with Coran and Romelle as her advisory. The mice are there too.

As admiral, Shiro gets a cool fancy house. So they throw a house party and the gang and some of the cool Earth/Galran/Altean people are invited too. It’s a great party 10/10 and 3 hours in, Lance gets wasted cuz Allura drinks him under the table. Hunk is getting some water while Pidge/Katie is taking blackmail pictures. Coran is still partying with the mice and Romelle.

Keith and his introvertedness has his social battery run out at this point,  so he finds a porch to sigh upon. It takes Shiro exactly five minutes to notice that Keith isn’t coming back yet, so he seeks him out in the big fancy house.

 Shiro finds Keith sighing on the porch or smth and jokes about this being their easiest time finding each other and Keith smiles at this. Shiro has a beer or smth and Keith asks to try it to break the ice. Shiro teases him about being old enough to drink. Then he’s like uh yeah remember the time I was stuck on a meteor for 2 years with my mom?? Fair point. Shiro lets him try it and Keith spits it out cuz it’s nasty even though bruh probably drank swamp water. They laugh and banter about that too.

The mood settles and then Shiro asks about those two years. And about  their lost time. Keith asks if he took any of Kuron’s memories since he’s got a clone body now. 

He does. He remembers it, but Kuron’s memories feel like it’s him, but he’s taken a backseat and is watching himself do things instead of doing them himself. Then Keith asks him if he remembers what he said when they fought. “You said you love me,” Shiro speaks softly as he turns back to face Keith. “Is that still true?”

Finally they talk about their feelings. Like a well-developed couple should. Keith does still love him and says that he always will. Shiro also admits his feelings too. Thought he was fam. Turns out he was bae. They almost kiss, but the Voltron gang interrupts because that’s how it be.

The two awkwardly get dragged back into the party and Lance is recovering okay. Also, he’s been offical with Allura at this point too. Lance teases them about being a couple and Shiro and Keith are internally screaming. 

The party dies down and everyone starts to go home. The Voltron gang is the only few left and they help Shiro clean up. Lance gets benched cuz he’s still recovering. As they clean up, Shiro begins to notice how large and lonely the house is gonna get. He catches Keith before everyone leaves and slips him a key and says he’s always welcome just in case he gets lonely. Or something.... There’s some Shiro head scratching and Keith knows what’s up.

Everyone leaves. Shiro is alone. He tries to get some rest, but the house is too gotdamn big and unfamiliar. Being alone in a large space is not good for a guy with PTSD. He works out. He investigates his house, etc. Bro still can’t sleep. 

Afterwards, he just gives up and sits at his kitchen going like :( at a glass of water. Then the doorbell rings. Who is it? DING DING, It’s Keith!  With a duffel bag! Turns out he couldn’t sleep either. Shiro invites him to join him in the kitchen with his :( water and they talk a bit.

Then they pick up where they left off at the party and finally kiss. One of them asks if the kiss was okay, and the other is like HELL YEAH and so they keep going. It’s really spicy. One thing leads to another and then they go upstairs to Shiro’s large bed. (I’ll leave that to your imagination.) 

Either way, morning comes and Shiro wakes up with Keith in his arm(s). (HELL YEAH) Guess they got REAL official. He asks about the duffel bag. It’s literally everything Keith owns. So like. 3 outfits. And some weapons. Hygeine products. Etc. (Dude is a minimalist.) Kosmo is in the living room or smth. Bottom(lmao) line is, Keith planned on taking Shiro up on his offer the whole time. He literally just left to pack lmao (HELL YEAH) Shiro gives him his own closet and drawers since the room is big. Guess they live together now yeehaw. 

Eventually, everyone finds out they’re official and is like FINALLY and so they continue their lives on Earth with Shiro as admiral and Keith as captain. They sort out the war damage for a year-ish or so and then do whatever leaders do in peace time. Probably train their people idk. Shiro is up to his neck in papers. He’s not really digging it. He enjoys his peaceful life on Earth, but he often thinks about what it would be like exploring the galaxy now that the Galra aren’t a threat.

Allura and Lance get married. Lance still gets those blue marks but idk why. Why not lmao. It’s a big wedding and Lance throws the boquet. Keith catches it. He looks to Shiro and DING DING, the lightbulb goes off. The Altean Queen and King have many babies and they all have the marks too. Happy family. Goofy dad. Badass mum. Gotta rule the new Alteans too. That’s all good. They either live in space or get their own land cuz racism doesn’t exist on this earth. Cuz I said so. Either way, Lance and Allura visit the others often with their kids. Hunk and Pidge are GREAT with kids.

The Blade of Marmora calls. Krolia is like hey wus poppin’ son. Keith tells her he and Shiro are a couple and she’s like oh finally thank god. That guy was the only thing he’d talk about for the two years and like honestly it’d be awkward if they didn’t get together. But also, the Blade of Marmora needs Keith. For a while. Like, at year at least. He has a few days to decide to go with them. Keith’s torn between his people on Earth or his people in Marmora. 

Shiro tells him it’s okay to go. But before that, he kneels on one knee and presents Keith with a ring. An engagement ring!!!! It’s specially designed by Pidge with a one-channel track that won’t get in the way of any signals or whatever, but they can find each other, no matter where in the galaxy each is. (Since that’s been a recurring problem throughout the series.)

Keith goes. Keith Galra Facetimes whenever he can. Weeks pass. Months pass. Seasons fly. Shiro terribly misses his fiancé. Nothing goes terribly wrong since this is the endgame, but Keith is away for a looong time. More than a year. He misses Shiro terribly, but he knows his duty is to the Blade of Marmora, which has become a relief effort and guardians of the galaxy. No talking trees or raccoons, unfortunately.

Eventually, Keith makes his way back to earth. Krolia, Kolivan, Axca, and the other Blades are with him. Krolia has a mother-son moment with him and asks him what he truly wants. Keith wants Shiro, but he also wants the life with the Blade of Marmora. It’s way better than on Earth, (no offense.) Then Krolia asks, “Why not take your man with us? His skill is going to waste at that desk.” And Kolivan is like “Shiro is a man of honor. He will always have a place with us if he so desires.” And Keith is like :0

He tells Shiro to come with him and Shiro’s like :O But he’s got papers! And Duties! And... the ability to train a successor to be Admiral! He gets on it. But low-key. Cuz he doesn’t want everyone to freak out. Like All Might and Deku, but not as life-threatening a situation and no consumption of hair. It’s probably that guy who thought Keith was his rival. Jack? Jacob? James! Or someone else idk. Who’s Curtis? We can sprinkle him in, I guess. Not sure if Hunk would want to be admiral. But either way, Shiro steps down from his position and gives it to someone very capable.

Then the Blades are back on Earth. Keith leaps into Shiro’s arm(s) all dramatically and gay as God intended. Shiro and Keith get married!!!! Everyone is there and it’s such a happy day like wowie.

After the wedding/goodbye party and preparations, the newlyweds announce their leave into space. And they fly off! Shiro is part of the Blade of Marmora. They’re a happy family and visit Earth and Altea whenever they can. Everyone still gets together every year for Christmas or something.

The last scene is the space ship leaving earth with Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon” playing. The planets and space stuff fade further in the background. They’re in a field of stars. It cuts to Keith in his uniform holding Shiro, who’s in his earthly clothing and kissing his husband’s hand. A golden ring shines on each of their fingers and they continue to dance. Gosh, they’re so happy and in love. The two never lose each other again.

Weekly Update October 13, 2023

This week had a bunch of ups and downs. It’s been busy but I’ve been trying to do what I can on the side.

I’m definitely falling behind on my inktober prompt sets, partially because of exhaustion but also partially because of time and social obligations. I was able to bring my sketchbook to dnd tonight and start inking everything up to yesterday’s prompt, although I need to go over it all with the bottle and brush before they’re finished. I do unfortunately need to sleep early tonight so I don’t think I’ll be able to do any more digital art tonight but I do have a sketch done for the next goretober prompt. I am very limited on time tomorrow (and this weekend in general) but once I get my comms done I can get to that and start sketching some more.

Animation hasn’t been too slowed by my busy schedule since I can work on it during lecture, but I am unfortunately still exhausted, so it is much slower than it was in early September. I’m almost back on pace, though. Jon’s animation for shot 1-4 is done except for his face and some cleanup work (Jon in particular has shoulders that like to fall apart). The sketchy assets for Emile are almost all exported, and reimporting them can also be done during lecture to save time. I’m not sure if I’ll begin animation on 1-4 for Emile or Tim once Jon is done, because Emile looks like more fun but Tim would give me an excuse to get some prop assets done that I’ve been meaning to. Prop assets take time from other drawings since k need my tablet for them so actually now that I think about it I’ll do Emile next to buy myself time to catch up on prompts.

I’m in a weird spot with music stuff, I’m finally getting an idea of what I want to do and how to do it, but then komplete kontrol decided to have a big ugly update that deleted a bunch of samples I was going to look at. If anyone knows how to relocate/reinstall/return the samples under the ‘loops’ tab of komplete kontrol (that is, the tab labeled loops, not any loops saved to the controller. My controller is not affiliated with Native Instruments and is not affected by the update), please please please let me know. I can try workarounds or other plugins, but my computer is a bit tight on storage space and I don’t know if I’d have room for another plugin. Looking into getting a new computer since I’m about at that point anyway but it wouldn’t be for a while yet. Idk I might try to work around it if I find time but that seems unlikely to happen until probably next Thursday.

I’ve been on and off thinking about OC story planning as well. I drew Vaughn the other day and people really seem to like him, plus I realized he could fit in pretty nicely into another underdeveloped story (the one with Parsley and Julie), but I’d need a basic structure for that before I can really do anything with it. I have a plasma appointment tomorrow morning so I’ll have time to think on it, although I’ll probably dedicate the time instead to music planning and shenanigans.

Lot going on, also a fair amount of homework stuff for uni as well, but I’m managing. Worst of this week is a lab report I’m not sure I’ll have time for but in the absolute worst case I can sacrifice my sleep on Monday or Wednesday night. I’d rather not but you gotta do what you gotta do. I’ll try to get going on the rest of the prompt set drawings but sometimes other things take priority.

Writing Update: What’s next

So I guess it’s been like a week since I finished the first draft of my novel. I’m still really excited about finally finishing a story that’s just been an idea for so long. No one really asked, but I have some other things planned that I’m also pretty psyched about, so here’s what you guys can expect from me, writing wise over the next little bit:

 I’m going to start rolling out some character introductions hopefully soon. I’m hoping to include a drawing as well as some basic information on each of the four main characters. Right now, I have one drawing that’s partially complete and I’m still trying to figure out what kind of written information I want in these introductions. 

Inktober is coming up and I’m going to be participating (again)! This isn’t a writing update, but you can definitely expect to see some ink drawings once October comes around.

Speaking of challenges, I’m also going to be participating in the Seven Days of Fright event . I already have stories planned for 5/7 prompts, most of which have tentative titles. I’ve already started writing three of them, and I’m pretty excited to share them with you guys! I’m hoping to make some illustrations for some as well, but that’ll depend on whether or not I can find the time. My main priority is going to be writing and editing. 

NaNoWriMo is also coming up, and I’m going to start outlining my project soon since I plan to participate in that as well. I’m going to be working on a sequel to the novel that I just finished that will pick up where my first one left off. I’m not sure whether I’m going to aim to do the full 50,000 words because I’m working full time this year and have some other stuff going on, but I’m still going to participate regardless. I’ll try to post some regular updates like I was doing during camp NaNoWriMo back in April.

I’ve started editing my first draft, but only a little bit. Originally, my plan was to post chapters as I edit them but I’m no longer doing that for a few reasons. One is that I’m just wanting to take a break. I’ve spent a lot of time working on it, and I kinda just want to step away from it for a little bit before I jump back in. I’m also wanting to make a title page, which I could do easily, but haven’t yet because of reason #3 which is I don’t have a title for this stupid novel yet 🙃 I have a working title but I don’t really love it. I thought maybe inspiration would strike while I was writing but it never did. So yeah, once I do all those things I’ll finally start posting here.

I have some other projects that I’m wanting to do some more work on as well. I’m not ready to start writing any of them yet, but I’m hoping to do some more work on worldbuilding, story planning, and character development so that I can start writing them hopefully soon. I feel like I kind of know which one will be my next project based one where I’m at with each story. I have like 2 ideas and one loosely defined concept. Only one of them has a clear beginning and end (the middle is a little bit iffy atm). I might share some world building stuff but idk we’ll see. 

Anyways, I know no one asked, and idk if anyone will actually read through all this (but shout out to you if you actually did). This is mostly just to hold myself accountable.

2019 Art Goals

There’s a snowstorm today so I finally am cooped up enough to sit down and make an art goals post for this year.

Let’s see how I did in 2018:

Okay first of all I am SO MUCH BETTER with fingers and so much more confident with them how awesome is that

Um I varied off and on with posting things on time but I did a little better.

I tried to keep on with drawing and I think I mostly did good.  I had a lag in fall/winter this year but I’m getting back on the wagon.

I still suck at facial diversity.  Idk man I try to draw a new face and somehow it’s always the same face?  I think part of it is because I’m terrible with perspective in general and it’s even more terrible with faces so I can draw them from like, maybe two angles.  I have been trying to tweak a little more with chin shape, jawline, eye shape, noses, etc. but not so much success with that imo.

I did pretty good sticking with reference images but the real breakthrough was when I was sick as a dog last month and was stuck in bed with nothing but my phone for company and finally figured out Pinterest, so now I have a nice little collection of reference images in my pocket.  (Before that they were mostly on my desktop, which obviously doesn’t go with me, and I never sit at my desk to draw anyway.)

So my goals for 2019 are:

Who knows maybe third year is the charm for figuring out facial diversity.  Let’s keep at it.

I tried soapmaking and love it, so I want to experiment more with different types of crafting that catch my eye.

Keep drawing.  Continuing from last year, more stuff with focus on process than product (most of the time).  I find it keeps my workflow going better.

SWTOR remains my main obsession so that’s the content you’re mostly going to get for now.

(But you have my word that whenever I get a Rebels idea, I always draw it, because I know y’all like it.)

I have been missing doing actual comics though, so I want to try and do a few more of those.  I’ve been working on a couple recently and I’d forgotten what good practice it is to keep your characters realistically moving, maintaining detail continuity, etc.

I found this 30 Day of Domestic Fluff prompt challenge thing and I love fluff and fun so I decided to do it with Avei and Corso, and that’s how I’m starting off the year.  Inktober kept me on track well so I’m hoping this will do the same lol.  I’m currently working on 4 and while I’m not sticking to a strict one a day schedule I am doing them in order and regularly to get me in the drawing groove for the new year.

Sewing!  Continue sewing more because I dropped off on that too.

Still gotta make me my Ravenclaw pajama pants.  Since I’m snowed in I might work on those this weekend if I can tear myself away from video games.

Decide on a costume for Episode IX.  Am I excited for Episode IX?  No, not really.  Am I going to go on opening night in costume?  Um hell yes I am!!!

I’m strongly leaning towards Luke but idk.  But since I went as Han after he fell victim to the sequel trilogy I feel I should do the same with Luke.  That and Luke is the only member of the OT trio I haven’t made a costume of.  Also, I can make a Luke outfit easy.  Right now my main choices are:

Luke’s end of ANH outfit but without the yellow jacket, because 1. it’s snazzy af and 2. I can reuse my Han pants and belt and just make a new shirt.

Luke’s RotJ outfit because it’s my favorite Luke outfit and again I already have the shirt pattern and could probably just buy pants to go with it, so simple enough.

Luke’s original farmboy outfit.  I can use the Jedi tunic my mom made me in middle school (still fits!), wear light pants, make boot wraps, make a new belt or use my Han Solo belt, and make a poncho.  I also really love Luke’s fresh of the farm outfit so it’d be fun and simple to make.

One morning I woke up at 5 AM and wondered what a General Grievous inspired dress would look like.  I have no ideas yet but that is still an option in my mind.

The only other goal I have is sort of art-related, sort of not, but it is very important imo, so please allow me to step onto a soapbox for a moment.

By summer 2018 my anxiety and depression had gotten so bad over the past two years I finally went and spoke to a doctor about it, and got put on medication.  It has made a world of difference.  I have so much more energy and I can think again, clearly, in a way I feel like I haven’t for almost two years.  I feel like myself again.

I’d heard before and you probably have too this idea that medication dampens creativity.  “Oh, but would Van Gogh have created such beautiful paintings if he wasn’t mentally ill/depressed/struggling/[phrase of choice]?”  I’m here to tell you that’s a fucking lie and anyone who spreads it should be ashamed of themselves.  I have produced more art and better art since I got on medication.  My brain is mine again and I am more myself, as an artist and a person, than I’d been in a long time.  So if you’re struggling and worried about losing your creativity, don’t be.  (Do tell your doctor if you’re sensitive to medication, though, the initial side effects can be wacky.)

And with that, onward to 2019!  Here’s hoping it’s a good year.

Rambling about inktober

Inktober is a nice little drawing event to participate in but I didn't really attempt the creative challenge part of it. I couldn't come up with 31 different drawings for "hair" "fire" "brush" or whatever they were. My time is so precious these days I didn't want to spend it agonizing over prompts. I just did drawings of Halloweeny stuff. And I thought posting every day would make me more confident since I'm pretty shy about posting stuff online, it actually made it a little more nerve wracking lol. It was just another bit of pressure on my already stressful schedule . Also, this inktober has reaffirmed what I kinda already knew, I wanna move away a bit from just drawing people from reference. It has gotten me this far in terms of drawing ability but I wanna have more fun being creative and making fan art of the cartoons I like. I could've incorporated cartoons into the prompts, but once again my creative bandwidth only goes so far. I'm gonna slow down with posting art but by no means am I burnt out. I actually have a couple wips that I will be working on and enjoy taking my time on them. If something completely good came out of this experience, is that it showed me what I consider important, what I'm good at and what can be improved. And how much I missed drawing traditionally since I've been drawing almost exclusively on my ipad. Further more, I might consider doing commissions next year? Idk if making more art made me look more productive or idk but people seemingly want me to draw for them. So yeah, just wanted to arrange my feelings about last month. I might do another art challenge next year but only if it really appeals to me and if it doesn't require as much punctuality. With all that off my chest, this is my last inktober post. Now I just have to worry about school work. Lucky me :p
