Mum was talking to 4yo while we were decorating cookies, and she was like “I used to look after [zets] when they were a baby! Do you know why?”

#bramble bramble#man I do love my mother dearly but also.#so we took 4yo to a parade last week and it was overwhelming so we left#and we’ve been talking about it a lot—partly so I can reinforce that 4yo did exactly what he should!#he told his grownups that he wanted to leave#so anyway. we were talking through that script in front of her and she chimes in with ‘but sometimes you might have to wait!’#and like yes. true. if we are in the pool we will not magically teleport outside fully dressed. and also there are many contexts where it is#rude to just leave. HOWEVER. that is not where this kid is at.#where this kid is at is we want him to say ‘I want to leave’ instead of having a meltdown.#and he needs to know that if he says that his grownups will listen#we can work on the other stuff down the line (although ‘you can p much always Just Leave’ honestly never stops being true)#idk I love her but I think her experience with autism is limited and she has a lot of (fine for NT kids!) ideas about socialisation#also idk he doesn’t have a dad who is in 7577374 choirs so like. sitting through a concert is not really a relevant skill for him
