Magnus Archives Relisten 1, MAG 1
Very excited to begin this project! I will be updating Saturdays and Mondays, so feel free to listen along and let me know what you are thinking. I will be discussing each episode within the larger context of the show, so spoilers ahead!
I am starting with MAG 1, Angler Fish.
Oh, how I missed that cello intro.
Facts: Statement of Nathan Watts, April 22nd, 2012, taking place in Old Fish Market Close, Edinburgh. I want to keep track of statement times and places so that we could get some semblance of a timeline.
Character Notes: I forgot how autobiographical Jon gets in this first episode. He spends the first ten minutes just describing the archive, how he came to work there, and who he is. If he was just attempting to catalogue the stamens, this seems unnecessary. But, as we know, he wasn't exactly qualified to be an archivist.
Jon describes himself as a not believing in the supernatural and the archive as where the "dead end cases" end up. It's suspicious that Elias would hire someone who doesn't believe in the supernatural at all to look into the cases with the least evidence, which foreshadows that Jon wasn't hired because of his research or archival skills.
Another part of this episode that I really love is where Jonny puts the listeners focus in terms of character. At the beginning of the episode, Jon kind of glazes over Tim and Sasha to talk about how much he hates Martin, which in turn makes the listener ignore Tim and Sasha to think about Martin. Jonny really draws your attention to what's important there.
Additionally, at the end of the episode, Jonny brings the focus back to Sasha as he describes all the online research and computer-related work she does. So from the get-go, he was showing us how involved she was with the archive and how committed she was to work.
And of course, it wouldn't be TMA without Jon's complete tonal shift from describing to reading the statement. It's such a stark contrast.
Statement Notes: It's been said before, but the fact that the statement that draws Jon in is called "Angler Fish." Especially after hearing how immediately when he starts reading the statement, his voice changes. He is completely absorbed in it from the moment he starts reading. I know we all make fun of the way Jon acts out the statements, but he just can't stop himself. Once the statements start, he's no longer in control. We hear this in his voice from MAG 1, but don't realize how intense it is until Martin has to shake him out of statements in season 5.
It stuck out to me that Nathan was drunk when he met the thing in the alley. This serves as a reason for Jon to dismiss the statement, but I vaguely remember several statement givers being under the influence, which makes me wonder if entities specifically choose to prey on intoxicated people because they have a lower capacity to reason. Maybe because they're more likely to act based on fear than logic?
Entity Alignment: The entities overlap a lot, especially in this episode, so I'm going to share all the entity vibes I got and hear what others think.
Going on imagery alone, there's definitely something to be said about The Dark in this episode. The fact that actual angler fish live in the darkest section of the ocean and the creature refused to let itself be fully seen really bring that fear into this episode. Also, when Sasha reconstructs the photo one of the missing people took of the creature, Jon says it's on a stairwell. I remember the creature on the stairs episode being pretty Dark-aligned, though I doubt they're related.
But, the fact that Nathan and the listener are afraid of the creature because they can't see it and don't know what it is makes me think of The Stranger, too. Nathan says that, "whatever was asking, it wasn't the thing in the alley well," which really reminds me of "I don't even have a voice box." The creature isn't speaking for itself, an unknown voice is coming from an unknown place and it's asking for a cigarette. Nathan also says that when he told people about what he saw, they didn't believe him, only responding with "pity and concern." This is similar to how people would treat those who remembered the people The Stranger replaced: they were treated like they were acting weird and different, when it was the Not!Person. Also, before Watts realizes the thing in the alley isn't human, he calls it "The Stranger."
Yet, the entity I believe is really aligned with this statement, is The Web. With everything from Jon asking for a cigarette before trying to blow up the world, to his spider lighter, to this being the statement that draws him into the archive and leads to him becoming the Archivist, this episode is so reminiscent of Annabelle Cane and her plot (Can you say reminiscent before something happens? Is it just "miniscent"?). There were two things that really got me thinking this was a Spider ep though.
Number one, when the creature disappears, Nathan describes it, "as if a string had gone taut and pulled it back." This really seems like Annabelle or The Web itself had placed the creature there, let it play its part, and then yanked it off stage when it was done.
The second part being the very last line in the show. Sasha, IT god that she is, reconstructs the image of the creature, and a hand is visible in the darkness. Jon, without an ounce of professional distance or feigned objectivity, says, "I find it oddly hard to shake off the impression that it's beckoning." And just- Oh my god. Jon. It's beckoning him. It's calling to him. It's telling him to keep coming back. Telling him to change. To disappear. To become another mystery. It was all planned from day one. He never had a choice but still made all the wrong ones.
Anyway,
Will be posting about MAG 2 on Monday! Please share your thoughts on this episode, hope you enjoyed reading. Also hope that you have a great day, because you deserve it.

Hi I know this is out of nowhere and sorry if you answered it before. Also totally ok if you don’t want to answer
But your blog got me super interested in the redacted asmr thing
I did some research and you seem to know a lot about so do you know if there’s any like, chronological order I should watch them?
Love your blog!
Absolutely no worries! I like getting stuff to respond to, it's the opposite of a bother <3
So Redacted Audio, formerly Redacted ASMR, is a channel on youtube with a, quite frankly, massive amount of audio, and since it's been running for over 4 years now it can be a LOT to sort through. Fortunately, he's done a really good job curating and organizing playlists for the different speaker-characters.
Everything is within the same universe, and many of the characters have interacted with each other. The context is that the location is a fictional city named Dahlia set somewhere in California, which is a "cornerstone" city for magical society. The best way to get a solid rundown on magic and the setting is to listen through the Freelancer Season 1 playlist.
This one is already arranged in chronological order* and also has the benefit of giving a sampler of sorts for a wider variety of speakers. One thing to be aware of ahead of time: While this was actively being published, Erik hadn't decided who the listener-character (nicknamed Freelancer) would be romancing, so it starts off with a lot of potential toward all of them except Caelum. As it went, there were polls in the discord server that he used to run, and popular consensus eventually narrowed it down to Gavin. The first time I listened was after all of that, and I was more fond of Damien, but I'm personally pleased with Gavin now, and this playlist has been one of my favorites to just revisit if I'm bored.
*Well, mostly. There was a point where the channel got a strike for some of the audios being too spicy and he removed and/or edited some of them to try to avoid being demonetized. The first Gavin audio is one of the ones that got edited, and #3 on the playlist accidentally got relocated. It's been a long time, but I think it was originally after what's now #6, the second Caelum audio.
Aside from that one as a good introduction to the channel as a whole, there are some "main" characters that have had the most attention.
One is a group of wolf shifters: David, the current head of the pack (Chronological for his listener. A lot of people aren't super fond of the earliest ones for him, #3-5, because the character evolved a bit and they aren't really representative any longer) Asher, his second Milo, another pack member, which is absolutely underselling him, he's one of my favorites
There are a couple of vampires: Vincent, the OG for the channel Sam, a common favorite who's listener is a member of David's pack
While most of the playlists are specific to character, there are a few thematic ones as well, all of which are chronological within themselves. Now, chronology with respect to each other can start to get a bit confusing, because of how long it's taken for some of them to play out.
If you want to get a feel for the characters before worrying too much about timeline, I'd listen through most playlists as they're arranged with one main caveat:
When you hit the audios titled Inversion, give those a pause until you've listened to more speakers. Inversion was a huge crossover he did that has 10+ speakers involved.
A personal favorite has been Vega. I'm actually super not fond of the first audio he's in, which is also in the Freelance list, so I skip that one when I relisten. The first one in this list is that one with the Freelancer, but the second and onward has a demon listener nicknamed Warden. We just got an update on his story today/last night and I've been a little unwell about it 🙃
I am realizing I could go on and on and on and I kind of have, so I'm going to stop there. Hopefully that's enough to dip your toes in. I'll gladly help out with any follow-up questions, too :3
#redacted audio#redacted asmr#asks#I think if I had to pick favorites it'd be vega sam gavin milo and avior for top five#I'm REALLY fond of some of the ones with fewer audios too though and wish we could get them more often#but with as many speakers as he's ended up with some of them have LONG waits#when will geordi come back from the war ;3;#or morgan#some other folks have also made suggested starting guides before but my mind is absolutely blanking on them right now#I've tried a few other audio channels like this and never really got into any of them#but erik does a really good job I really enjoy his voice and the characters/world he's got going#and there's not a lot of ambient noise which is personally too distracting#there's important contextual sound effects like doors keys and phones but rarely any unnecessary things like background music

I know this is like so annoying but just wanted to pop on and say that I used to listen to the Bibliovore podcast BIBLICALLY, listen and relisten to episodes in high school, when they provided a much-welcome distraction from the gym. I feel like y’all really helped inspire a love of discussing books and having fun with that in me, and now I get to do that every day at my job, working in publishing. Thank you, hope you’re doing well <3
Oh my gosh, this message is SO SWEET and I just realized that I
a. got it in February
b. Thought to myself "I should sit down and write a reply about how moved I am"
c. Immediately came down with an incredibly nasty bout of the flu for several weeks and FORGOT I HADN'T RESPONDED.
Anon, this is so so lovely and I'm delighted that you're still enjoying books and, I hope, living your best life. I also hope that you get this response! I'm going to forward your message to Kate and I'll update if she responds (I simply cannot risk leaving posting for later and having my brain delete the message responding task. again.).
To answer your question, I'm doing great. There's never enough time for all the books I want to read, but that's just the human condition. Last year I read all of Agatha Christie's Poirot and Miss Marple books, and in hopes of a similar period mystery hit I just picked up the first Lord Peter Wimsey book. Wish me luck!
#elenchus chats#seriously though anon I'm very moved and really hope you haven't wandered away from the blog in annoyance at my lack of response#I'm very sorry my brain is not fit for company or executive function!

It has been a very exhausting day but it's still #AudioDramaSunday! Starting off with @souloperatorpod episode 9 which. Tot you have to stop doing this to me (affectionate). Their midseason finale drops tonight at 12AM PST, if you start right now you can catch up for the finale!
@tellnotalespod episode 2.9 made me cry. A lot. Flo was just such a lovely spirit and far too relatable and if Leanne could stop making me cry that'd be great <3 Every episode of Tell No Tales is better than the last. If you're not listening to it, you have to change that
@thesiltverses chapter 40 was absolutely incredible. I am once again in awe of Rhys Lawton's ability to make me like Carson even as I hate Carson. I also still adore Carpenter/Hayward friendship times seeing how they went from adversaries to friends just. It makes me feel things.
@audistorium has continued to hype up others in this community by doing a trailer-a-thon! This featured some incredible trailers interspersed with incredible character work by Lemon and Cody Heath. Lemon continues to be a bright spot in audiodramas and im lucky to know him
The @woebegonepod season 13 finale was incredible and impressive as always. It made me laugh, it made me ridiculously tense, it had some of my favorite voice actors in it, truly cannot go wrong with wbg. I also started relistening to season 1 again. Because what else would I do
@ethicstownpod had a feed drop of Paddleboat which is a delightful show by the aforementioned Rhys Lawton! It's short, it's incredibly well written, and it always makes me excited to hear more
Here on the Fringes I have decided that I'm not done being Silver just yet so I'm rerecording and remastering season 1 now that I have more knowledge and a better mic. Episodes will be released on our patreon first (patreon.com/PineTreePods) and the updated on the general feed!
And over on @forgedbondspod I'm writing the finale of the show and feeling so normal. I have also been getting even more incredible recordings from my cast and I can't wait for yall to hear them. Keep an eye out on the Forged Bonds socials for a crowdfunding announcement soon!
That's all for this week! Before I head out I want to say thank you to all the wonderful folks that I've become friends with in this community. Getting to befriend and collaborate with so many amazing people never fails to make even my worst days better and I love yall <3

Best of 2023
Hi there,
This week, we're celebrating the 2 year anniversary of my website and blog (well, just under 2 years, it officially launched on Jan 1). So, to round out this year with the blog and in general, I thought I'd do a little roundup of my personal "Best of" 2023. This is more a list of stuff I really dug this year than a formal ranking of any sort, and a lot of this isn't necessarily new in 2023, so much as stuff I discovered (and rediscovered) this year! Some things will get a little extra blurb, some things will just be listed. Alright, without further ado, my best of 2023!
PODCASTS: Dungeons & Daddies - Legitimately, 90% of my podcast listening this year was either Dungeons & Daddies or Blank Check. I don't even think I meant for it to be like that, it's just how it happened. As a work of collaborative fiction, I really love Dungeons & Daddies. It's a super funny show and this past week-ish, I've been relistening to Season 2 so far and have just been delighting in it. Blank Check My Year in MENSA Solve This Murder The Real Housewives of Dungeons & Dragons Abandoning the Premise - Haven't heard of it? Well so far, there's only one episode and it's exclusive to my Patreon! But it was fun and I'd like to revisit in the future!
VIDEO GAMES: Reverse 1999 Honkai Star Rail - I am very bad at playing updating video games. It doesn't come naturally to me. I am not someone who completes a lot of games--if I am really gripped by something, I'll finish the story, but I'm not very good about new game plus and 100% runs or anything like that. So, what usually happens with games like this is I get to a point where I am caught up and then I take a break because something else catches my eye or I have less time or I just feel like there's not a lot to do with where I'm at in the game and when I next try to dip in, I feel too far behind. That's definitely where I am with HSR right now, but I'm hoping to take some of my remaining time off to actually try to play and enjoy it again. The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog Detective Pikachu Returns - This was a Christmas gift and it's delightful! A lot of the puzzle-solving is very easy, but, I dunno, I like hanging out with my friends the Pokemon.
COMICS: Nancy Chainsaw Man Milky Way by Miguel Vila - Another Christmas gift, this book is beautifully ugly. It is a semi-erotic relationship-thriller that I think does a very good job of balancing the grotesqueness of human nature and interpersonal relations with a sort of soft loving lens of what compels us toward each other, even when it's at our expense. There's deception and injury and fetishization presented in ways that remind you why they're often treated as morally repugnant, but also are so attractive to us so often. Superman Kaguya-Sama: Love is War 17-21 The Rock Cocks Witch Watch - Every Sunday morning, I read through my "webcomics" of the week. I hit up Webtoon and catch up on anything there, then hop to Shonen Jump and read my new stuff there. Consistently, Witch Watch is probably my favorite read each Sunday morning, just because it almost never misses weeks and the characters are all just so delightful. Even with the current storyline being kinda weird (one of the main characters has been turned from a teen into a toddler and is being kinda raised by her romantic interest...) there's such a solid core of thoughtfulness and care and humor that I think it just always works. Spy x Famiy Lore Olympus Girl Taking Over: A Lois Lane Story Birds of Prey Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville - I recently talked on my Patreon about how I think playing backseat editor and coming up with "a book that would really get readers to the shop regularly again" isn't practical because I think there are other things that could bolster comic sales in longer-lasting, better ways and I think particularly with the current state of the readership, "comics readers" aren't looking for a unifying title, they're looking for the stuff they find personally compelling. I'm a guy in comics, I have a lot to say on that and how to improve things, but that's for another day. Why I bring it up here is between Birds of Prey and Fire & Ice, those are the books that if there was justice in this world would bring all the boys to the yard. These are the exact kind of superhero titles I wanna read all the time. Poison Ivy: Thorns Superman: The Harvests of Youth Dumbing of Age One Piece Crimehot - Crimehot #4 came out this year and includes the Cassidy and Butch to our main group's Jessie and James (That's a Team Rocket reference), the way more competent counterparts who all have weirdly deep backstories with the main cast. And let me tell you... like the name says, they're hot. And they do hot stuff. It's a good comic. Steamy Dandadan - I was recently gushing about Dandadan to some friends and described it as really hitting me as a comic that is so very much a book about whatever interests the creator at the moment (similar to Witch Watch in that way). If you read the pitch, it's like "she believes in ghosts and not aliens, and he believes in aliens and not ghosts and then wacky stuff happens to make a believer out of both of them" but it's really a light rom-com with just bonkers stuff happening and I love that about it. Three Rocks: The story of Ernie Bushmiller, the Man Who Created Nancy It's Lonely at the Centre of the Earth What Happens Next - This is a webcomic I discovered not too long ago and there are content warnings on the very first page that I think are very helpful to make sure you're in the right headspace for it. I am a big fan of stories about younger adults finding their place in the world--not a coming of age "taking your first steps into real life" kind of thing, but a "you've been around for a while and life is hard and even if you're doing the right things, or nothing at all, why isn't it better and what comes next" types of stoires. This totally fits that. And it reads incredibly quickly since it's usually 1-2 panels per page.
BOOKS: Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror - I look at my comics list and I look at the things I didn't place on either list and I know I read plenty this year, but it does feel strange having such a short list for traditional books. There's a lot to that: I spent like 6 weeks spending all my free reading time catching up on 1100 chapters of One Piece. I started a handful of books that I was enjoying but for one reason or another paused and didn't really pick back up. And so while this is the most recent release on the list, Out There Screaming was a major help for me because it was something I could pick up and read in short bursts and leave satisfied and wanting to come back for more. Every story--even the ones that I didn't like as much, was compelling and fun and left me thinking about it afterwards. House of Leaves Raw Dog: The Naked Truth About Hot Dogs - Book of the year. I don't even eat hot dogs, but I loved this book! I'm Glad My Mom Died The Broken Room
TV SHOWS: Poker Face Craig of the Creek Rise of the TMNT Transformers: Earthspark I Think You Should Leave - Out of everything we've consumed this year, I think ITYSL is the most quoted show in our household (though Real Housewives of Beverly Hills/Vanderpump Rules are close contenders). So much of this show is so funny and strange. The Rehersal Barry My Adventures with Superman Praise Petey - Without a doubt, Praise Petey is the least known show on this list. And because of that, as I just found out, it was canceled after a single season which sucks. The premise is after her cult leader dad dies, a down-on-her-luck New Yorker moves to the countryside and becomes a cult leader... whether she wants to or not and her own feelings on that differ minute-by-minute. Despite the broad premise, it's pretty in line with other animated sitcoms like Bob's Burgers or King of the Hill (it is a Mike Judge co-production) that I think speaks in an authentic, funny voice of the 18-35 demographic. If you like Only Murders in the Building, I think this has a similar energy, but hornier and with more of the concerns of youth than of old men. Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake Sex Education - Okay, I know I said I wasn't doing rankings, but as an overall piece of media, I think Sex Education is my show of the year. The last season, the one that came out this year, isn't my favorite of the series, but when so many shows flub their endings, this one really found a way to nail it (and to roll with the more major cast/location changes) in a way that felt real. This is one of those shows that, if it was available on DVD, I would buy to add to my "regular rotation", but much like Freaks and Geeks, I'd only ever be able to watch some of it again because as it got closer to the end, I don't know that I'd be able to emotionally take that on a regular basis. Joe Pera Talks with You Scott Pilgrim Takes Off
MOVIES: The Boy and the Heron The Fablemans - I have very complicated feelings about this movie. On the one hand, I really loved it on first viewing. It hit me emotionally in a major way. I've talked on the blog before about crying multiple times in the theater. And if you had asked me in the first half of the year what my favorite movie of the year was, it'd probably be this (even though it's technically a 2022 film). But I also have my issues with Steven Spielberg and... it is a film where I'm still navigating my own emotional catharsis with it relative to Spielberg as an artist/creator/subject of the film. Not to get too far into real issues of death of the author and separation of the art and artist, this is the sort of hyper-personal work that even moreso than usual I think cannot be separated from the creator and so my changing feelings on him means I'm still figuring out my new relationship with the work. M3GAN Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem - Up until recently, this probably would've moved into the movie of the year spot. I just thought it was so much fun. It's a visual feast. I like that it's a full story (Sorry, Spider-Verse). I love the world and the enthusiasm of the turtles and just really tuned in. Robocop Phantom of the Paradise - Becca watched this for the first time with me and we both marveled on how this kind of forgotten cult film actually informed so much of all pop culture for decades to come. I am happy to say that overall, still slaps. Venture Bros: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart Blue Beetle Gone Girl - I ended up watching a lot of Fincher movies this year, largely influenced by Blank Check. And Gone Girl has to be my favorite of his, and, on this rewatch, one of my favorite films of the 2010s. Oldboy Josee, the Tiger and the Fish Godzilla: Minus One - Again, not to rank things so much, but if Minus One did an Oscars sweep and took home (checks notes) every award, I'd be happy. Even the ones that don't make sense. Best Documentary Short? Give it to Godzilla, cowards! An absolute masterpiece on every level.
MUSIC: The Loveliest Time - Look, we got a new CRJ album. What else do you want from me?
OTHER STUFF: A smooth transition from IDW into the holidays (and into my new thing soon) Making a Discord for my friends and the feeling that I can spend a little time making my friendships stronger with some folks while we aren't also coworkers/collaborators. Bluesky (and not being on Twitter). Remaining boosted on my vaccines and not having any serious illness of my own. Becca's first year on Twitch. My first year on Patreon. WaifuExpo (now KimochiiCon) and generally being more open in my interest in consuming and creating adult material. Having some good experiences at shows and doing so many (will not be doing so many in 2024). Having good times with the people I love. All the comics I edited, all the blogs I posted, and just being at an end to that for the year.
Not to be a bummer at the end, but it has been a long, strange, difficult year. There is so much wrong in the world and so many are struggling. So, it's nice that there is also so much that I found enjoyment and comfort in. I hope you've had some real bright spots in this year too, and I look forward to next year with you.
I am not much for resolutions. I usually don't do a good job of them, if I bother to make them at all. But I do have some things I'll briefly say I'm excited for in the coming year.
I am excited to get married and to figure out what celebrations we can do around that. I am excited to start this new job and tell you all about it when I can. I am excited to make more comics. Besides my little self-drawn things that you can find on this blog, I didn't release any comics this year and I am very much looking forward to that not being the case in 2024. I am excited to grow my friendships. I am excited to continue this blog.
Thanks for reading. Happy new year!
New Releases next week (1/3/2024): Sonic the Hedgehog #68 (Editor)

Get to know you tag game!
I was tagged by @optiwashere Hi!!!
Three ships: I mean... Shadowheart/Nemeia(My Tav)/Karlach is absolutely my big ship right now if we're looking at everything I've written the last month or two. Then Obitine (Obi-Wan/Satine) from Star Wars. They brought back my love of writing after so long of being stuck in writer's block hell. And then I must go with my forever love, Selene/Michael from the Underworld series. I will forever love them. I have written and loved them since 2012, made some of the best friends ever because of them, and then just... even if I was scorned by the fifth movie, they will always hold a special place in my heart.
First ever ship: Faithshipping (Yusei Fudo/Aki Izayoi) from Yugioh 5ds. The things I could say about these two and how deep I was in fandom because of them. I started writing fanfics because of this ship. I was so big on them and once in a while, I find myself rewatching the final scene from the sub between them which was as close of a love confession that we could have gotten.
Last song: The Killing Kind by Marianas Trench
Last movie: The last movie I watched in full was a rewatch of Underworld Evolution so I could get Michael's voice in my head for something I was writing. I did start watching Nightmare Before Christmas too, but I had to leave for work so I didn't finish it.
Currently reading: If we're talking books, I've been trying to read Red, White & Royal Blue for a while but life keeps getting in the way. If we're talking fanfics, I just read the latest update for Nightsongs by @optiwashere and I am absolutely in love with this fic!
Currently watching: I've been rewatching Bones for the first time in a very long time but I've been more on the podcast train, so I'm including that so I've been relistening to The Magnus Archives, keeping up with The Penumbra Podcast (Specifically the Juno Steel stories) and listening to Wolf 359 for the first time. I highly recommend all of these!
Currently consuming: Hot Chocolate with a Peppermint Stick because it was actually cold these past few days and I can get away with it!
Currently craving: More free time to write and more coffee.
Tagging: @the-blue-quetzalcoatl, @isaakandreyevs, @beetlesacquired and whoever else wants to do it (Also no pressure to do it, I just needed to tag people)
#about me#Hi hello this is me#Please do not feel pressured to do this#Also sorry for tagging you twice if you read this#Your fic is also the most recent thing I've read and I'm obsessed

So- I as relistening to BitterSweet from YuuriVoice and had a few ideas on some one-shots from it. Imma write those when I can, but I figured I should update ya'll on a few things first. (No BitterSweet did not have anything to do with what I'm gonna talk about, just reminded me to update for you all.)
Warning- this may get a tad bit personal and may trigger people who have had similar experiences. (This is why there will be no tags on this post, also- reblogs have been turned off for this post.)
To make a long story short- my mental health was in the shithole for a little bit and I was severely stressed out. I've made a few changes to my routine to better not only my mental health, but my physical health too. Things like: changing my diet, sort of fixing my sleep schedule, becoming more physically active, and basically rewriting my whole schedule.
Before hand I was falling asleep at 7am and waking up at 4pm only to take care of my basic needs before going to work and coming home and pushing myself to write or taking a day to relax and play a game. However- after a while of that I fell ill, twice. My body forced me to properly rest and when I was starting to get better, finally, someone important to me talked to me about what was going on and helped me identify it properly.
I was in a sort of out of body mode, falling into some pretty bad habits that I used to do awhile ago. The person said it was most likely a mix of a bipolar depression episode and a derealization experience. I have experienced this kind of situation before, but it lasted much longer the last time- luckily they were able to help me break out of it and assist me into taking the right steps to avoid it happening again.
Currently I am doing much better, and said person has been looking into hiring a proper therapist for me. Maybe even a psychologist if it's deemed necessary. As soon as I'm doing a tad bit better I swear I'll get back into writing publicly again- however I cannot guarantee it will be frequently. Maybe proper writing posts between 2-4 times a month, but that'll be something that starts after I become far more used to the new schedule.
Thank you all so much for your continued enjoyment of my writings, it brings a smile to my face everytime someone likes a post if mine. And thank you for your patience.

C/W 06-09 thoughts : ]
Boy this took me a bit!!! I made the post for the first set of episodes on August 12. I said then I should take more notes while listening, & I think I in fact took LESS notes. edit: and wrote... more??? ok.whatever
Summary (short)
There's a food crisis. Orth gets kidnapped! The Chime gets an automated message to find him and they track him down to some train tracks where the train Orth was on (with a food delivery) got derailed. They get in a really long fight some people from a group called the Iron Choir (they have Orth!) and also some Apostolosians (only really due to bad phrasing on AuDy's part) . And then don't really win but do get away with Orth, so everything's fine I guess?
(more on faction game down below. too much happens in those to summarize here.)
Ground Game
This is the second (and last!) arc they play using MechNoir. I only just started the episode where they switch the characters over to The Sprawl, and I'm counting that towards the next bunch of episodes rather than this one... Anyways, this arc is like a good argument for that switch. It kind of stands out as a "oh they switch after this, right?" thing now. BUT!
The fight was honestly not as much of a slog as I remembered. Like they've done wayyy better fights since ofc especially with mechs (for me personally PZN is still the standout but PAL has had some Good Shit too) but this is like. It's ok! There's fun bits! I like Aria's mech! Part of it might absolutely be that I like. Give a fuck about mechs now and as a result am able to also imagine them better. I think in 2021, when I first listened, I was like. I guess there's Big Robots. Like transformers? (isn't even familiar with transformers) (really doesn't have a touchpoint for this at all)
I liked the snooping around bit before they got to this 2 episode long fight. I already mentioned it in an earlier post briefly, but we learn some minor details about Orth (they are looking through his office), that now really delight me because I love Orth! But when I first listened I don't think I cared very much at all about him at this point. This time around, his and AuDy's relationship intrigues me expecially with how Jack has been playing them.
Player character update...: AuDy is still my favourite. I still don't quite know what to do with Cass, but maybe I'll get there soon? Mako's funny. Though, and I thought I posted about this? But I can't find it now, an arc this episode also brings the morality of fogging robots onscreen for a bit. AuDy's upset by it. I think the notion of the robot he fogs getting more sentient is interesting...? Expecially if you draw a connection to what gives Mako the ability to do it in the first place. ... I won't say more here because I'm not actually sure but it's definitly running via Rightenousness a little bit, right? No clue if those facts are actually connected or not though. Uhm. I like Aria : ). Not many notes there so far, pretty much just the same stuff I said last time (I'm paying more attention to her where I feel like I hadn't as much on my first listen due to Ali being a little more reserved as a player this early on).
Further up I already talked about the switch to The Sprawl & I know the reasons and agree. however. I do think it's fun when they come up with adjectives, even if it messed with the pacing a bit because it took some time to do well. There's still a bit of this with other games they play later, too, like naming risks in Armor Astir or... whatever it was called to take something in Scum & Villainy (I recently relistened to the bit where Gig gets crushed and blown up and is VERY upset by it. It's still very funny).
Another thing I'm noticing more is that I'm occasionally a bit wonky on the factions, even super major ones ( OriCon vs. the Diaspora). I think it's because I didn't listen to the worldbuilding ep... I remember it having pretty rough audio (though probably not worse than that epispde of AiH where you couldn't hear Art at all), and also I skipped it back when I first listened, too (I'd bounced off before. I feel like I've mentioned this). It made some stuff in these episodes a bit hard to keep track of, expecially talking about the food crisis, and who is affected, and who is blamed, etc. (& I very much enjoyed all that! Like oh! We're getting into it now! Space factions and their politics and their effect on the world our characters move in! This rules. Friends at the Table rules)
Faction Game
Sylvi is so ON it with the faction game it's crazy. The other day while listening I remembered this was her first season on the show, like... damn!!! Just a ton of great ideas. It's really fun seeing them all be so enthusiastic about this.
Really good and fun faction game. I'm enjoying these a ton. A lot of my favourite scenes (or very memorable ones) from my first listen is faction game stuff, so I knew I'd like it, but I'm like REALLY really enjoying it. I've already said this in my other post, but I'm pretty sure it's due to the fact I can pay attention better & parse information.
It's a real big one too with a ton stuff getting set up. RIGOUR, Ibex, the Hands of Grace (hi Vicuna), some first September Institute stuff (like how fogging works!), and Loyalty gets introduced in that episode (hi Kobus, also). A lot of Divines, really! I'll get to this very big and important thing first: Rigour getting dug up!!! I totally didn't remember Austin immediately namedrops it at the end of the episode, lol. That probably wouldn't happen now, but these early seasons are more. informal? just less produced? And I really don't dislike it, it's simply a different vibe. And I'm liking it. (The rough-ish audio is also part of it IMO. Love to hear the static white noise if a mediocre mic under their voices.) I do still really like that scene though. Very effective. The image of a worker getting out of his mech to dig the last bit with his hands... It's good shit. Also just. RIGOUR. It maybe even hits more this second time around, because I know just What has been uncovered here and the consequences it will have.
Another is Ibex getting introduced! Hi!!!! : ) Apparently he's something called a "seductress" (or well. seductor) in the games rules, which I extremely forgot and made me laugh when I heard it. And then they proceed to come up with pretty much his whole deal, which Austin's performance is gonna finetune & shape more later on. I'm just excited! I like this guy! (Something I'm trying to do more this time around is take notes to look stuff up later, like what animals the Candidates are named after. I didn't do this for Ibex until sometime last year! Cool animal.)
This faction game also has the first appearance of Diego Rose who I have in mind as sort of Sylvi's special little guy? He's a pretty important guy in the faction that she plays, so I'm just gonna assume he'll show up way more in the future. But really I just loved that scene of him offering a prisoner they took after he shot their ships down to join the Odama Fleet while also threatening him. And he's soooo cunty about it it's so funny to me. Great job.
Tacking this on the end here: I had to look up the summary on the fatt.wiki because it's really been a while since I started this ep vs. finishing it, and this is like the first scene they play through. (The new season got in the way...!) But yeah this episode also has Grace's first real major appearance (& her Candidates, Vicuna). And it's a great scene! I think it's the first Divine onscreen? And showing one's influence on people ("People in the crowd, some of them begin crying and wailing. It is a religious experience for many."). It's good shit!!! I love Divines!!! They've never stopped being cool as fuck as a concept and there really wasn't a point when they weren't. It's just SO good and it'll only ever get pushed further and in even more interesting directions. And it's nice to be back here, at the start.
????
This is neither here nor there. Not anywhere really. But at some point Jack says "no that's undertale" (I didn't note down what about.) %& it really threw me for some reason like ik the years match up. But I just have C/W in mind as like... ages ago... (it was) and Undertale. Is Undertale. /I/ played Undertale! And that wasn't ages ago (lie) (it was)! Like I was probably playing Undertale when they made this season! Strange to think about.
Grace's arrival(?)
I want to try and draw a little image for each of these sets (though this one took me a bit longer than I would've liked). Here's Grace('s feet, because she's so big) and the sculpture park on Gemm
I'm not actually sure why (I don't think it gets mentioned in the episode???) but I've always imagined that planet (Gemm) as like, really foggy. Maybe because fog + ruined statue park looks really cool? + Graces light through the fog? Yeah, I don't know. The park is also empty here, when of course there's a whole parade and stuff in the episode, but this is just an image (an approximation of it.) I have in my head...
#i wrote the most on the faction game bc i finished the last few mins Today. and listened to about half yesterday#counterweightposting#i like counterweightblogging better it sounds more right but for the sake of being consistent.....#i structured this but I don't know if I'll keep that. though it does look nice!

kat talks: 5-star
tldr; it did not take long at all for this comeback to grow on me i love it so much. i find that with most new songs my first listen is always very apathetic and/or ??? LOL and there exists only a small handful of songs that i immediately was like oH MY GOD (this is across all artists i listen to) but yeah i always forget that when listening to new music and i think this comeback is the first time i fully acknowledged that my first listen is rarely (and doesnt need to be) instant likesies. theres a lot of small bits throughout the album that remind me of other songs (not a bad thing, just smth i noticed i kept noticing?). topline, dlc, the sound and time out were/are my favs hehe (update: relistening to the album again and collision and fnf are creeping up to my favs too help)
hall of fame
okay im pretty sure i've heard this in my brief listen before but i also dont remember it at all
i cant describe it but that alien-sounding melody actually has me seeing like a weird alien brainwashing thing
WHOS FUCKING-- WAS THAT JEONGIN??? AT 1:24???? that was so pretty i want that framed
during hyunjins bit i got weird b me flashbacks??? i dont think it sounds similar but my mind immediately went 'b me !!'
jesus felix
the moon landing audio is such a cool inclusion,,, 5 star,,, hall of fame,,, a star/celestial body themed comeback,,,,
s-class
okay wbk i was so confused the first time round but its grown sm on me
i LOVE the power of the opening
the cartoon boing/spring sound and (its not but) the tom and jerry running sound hehe
this song definitely sounds.. grand? and wide? and a good title track
"[im] up above the world so high" nice nice twinkle twinkle reference hehe
i absolutely love jeongin's bit in the bridge and i love the choreo of it too
item
i love the game sounds they use in this hehe
seungmin's prechorus reminds me of smth but i cant place what it is
felixs ... tone? like? the voice he uses???
hyunjin/changbin bit in the bridge >>>>> i cant explain it but it sounds so good
super bowl
the instrumental at the beginning took me by surprise.. i also am sitting ehre trying to identity the?? The Sound. digital/synth. like the almost cowbell almost snare one. ive replayed it so many times.
i thought this when i first heard it (while doing the dishes lol) but is this song all in english?
whats that sound between 'have a bite' and 'make it mine'
screams TFDGVJABVAD the whisper im sorry i cant do it HAHAHAHAHA
topline
to be mad honest i was SO excited for this based on just the teaser
'we skedaddle intoxicated razzle dazzle' best line fr
okay ik i didnt say much for this one but its one of my favs
underground rebellious kinda vibes i love it (i described that wrong but i have a very specific img in my head)
dlc
im trying to play this on the pino and its driving my nuts but in a good way
the 'amudo moreuge' line throughout the entire song is so [deep breaths] like i cant explain it but it BUT AHHHHHH (fun fact for any pokemon people LOL the song oracion has the same kinda thing in it. idk what to call it.)
oh i LOVE love the piano during the second verse AHHHHHHHHH not gonna be able to replicate it but thats okay
the song/chorus has a.. an urban tropical feel? like it's ALMOST something you would hear with a tropical background but smth about the key, maybe, plavces it instead in an urban setting at night (bc lyrics) and seems kinda bittersweet
THATS WHAT THE AMUDO MOREUGE LINE DOES it adds such a sad kinda tired/resigned feel to the song which is like. on one hand the lyrics are so 'lets dance like crazy without a care in the world' but on the other hand the song feels so lonely and kind of. 'don't worry about me, i'll manage my sadness alone'??? like, 'let's have fun together but i'm really sad even though i'm smiling' kinda thing ARGHHHHH
get lit
seungmin's line rmeinds me of smth ARGHH its another skz song i know that for sure but i cant remember which one (ngl a lot of the songs in this album have parts that remind me of another kpop song,,, one of the above reminded me of nct but icr which song)
oh wait i think its my pace @ seungmins line
the instrumental would be so cool for mashups etc
wait one of the lines is 'today im so cocky' which is interesting bc theres a previous line (sueprbowl?) thats about not being cocky or smth HMMM i would revisit but tbh i cbb rn rip
collision
tRUMPETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT... i think
trumpets reminded me of maknae on top and this song also suits jeongin's voice sm i love it here
oh??? the ringing at the end???
fnf
this REMINDS ME OF SMTH TOO an dits not kpop
but i do really like it
'ashes up in the sky' ,,,, thinkingthinkingthinking
this feels like the opposite of time out and idk how to explain it
lix singing !!!!!! i love it sm
WAIT THSI ONE ACTUALLY REMINDS ME OF B ME wait no or is it levanter
the flaura and fauna line also reminds me of venom
both of the above points refer to the melody ,, seungmin's venom prechorus "cant escape-" and then it jumps The Other Song which i cant figure out what it is AHH
was that an eagle did i just hear an eagle
the minho/chan ending is so <3 <3 <3
youtiful
the muted piano i [crying] also almost gives me knnw vibes
'must be an oracle' ????? trying to understand this. like. it must be predicting smth,, but what,,, 'look at the stars fall / they leave the sky, goodbye' which part of this is the oracle i-- ad oracle as in like a person or a message but either way
if anyone covers this song please use a xylophone or marimba hehe would be so <3
oh i can see this second verse being animated so beautifully
why did changbin singing at the end make me so incredibly soft
the sound
okay this song has been out for ages but i think the only thing i said about it was smth about the bass and also how it sounds like a 'final stand' kinda song
okay ngl i liked the jpn lyrics better for the chorus oopsies im sorry
the piano sounds so RAW like the ringing of it the way the key falls and the mallet hits the string like you can HEAR it like thats exactly how it sounds when you play that high on a piano and also like. imo i notice the sound more on older pianos and just bc of that personal association (???) this song gets a bit sadder
adding to the 'final stand' feel is the police sirens in the chorus
time out
i just love this song sm man like idk what to say at this point
OH IT REMINDS ME OF A DEEMO SONG AHHAHA WAIT LEMME FIND IT // this song omg i've never thought about it before but listening to time out just then, i literally went 'you ready?' and then i was like WAIT THATS A DIFFERENT SONG
this song would be such a fun end-of-concert/encore song woah
yeah no i really dont have much to say i just love this song sm
#kat talks 5-star#the time out/mili/deemo connectoin is gonna make me laugh everytime i listen to either song now#hm i feel like i didnt do much commenting on overall songs/the overall album sorry lol

hi hi!! it’s been like a month your new theme is so so pretty the flowers and the punks i love it, i got accepted into uni yesterday and i cried while at my cousins bday party because i only applied for one uni and didn’t study for the entrance exam at all 😔 not my proudest moment, im currently waiting for feedback on whether im getting the scholarship or not but it’ll take a while, but that’s a small update on me how’s it been going for you?
for me, i loveddddddd the title track + silver light so so much, i was always complaining on how KQ never gave them new music so when i saw the track list i was so so excited because it’s their first time doing units songs!! MATZ and arriba, youth, it’s you are all tracks i love so much and even though i am normally not a ballad person (they’re normally focused on lyrics and it’s in Korean and i can’t speak Korean☹️ so they never hit for me) i found myself replaying it a few times hehe
OMG !! i've missed you !! i was half tempted to msg you or something to try and see if you were okay !!
ty!! i'm glad you like my theme! and yay!!! uni!!! i assume you'll be starting in the autumn? i'll be starting my own uni then too!! it will be about three more years of school as i'll be taking classes to get my teaching certification on top of my bachelors' degree in english, but i like the learning and interaction part of college so it won't be a problem in that aspect ^^
i need to relisten to the album so bad! i listened to it in its entirety only once so i need to relisten! that being said, i love crazy form sm. i actually created a new playlist for getting pumped up and crazy form was the first track i added kekekeke and i totally get you with korean ballads! i do agree on some aspects. svt ballads always hit for me, and jongho's solo hit that mark for me too. i like it when ballads have other aspects to them, idk like loona's ballads would also take on an rnb tone or something like that!!

Music Update post
I also like listening to lots of music and I am generally into electronic and metal but I've been trying lots of new stuff recently so I'm going to talk about some of that.
First is Symbolic by Death. This isn't a new album for me but I want to contextualize where I'm broadly starting from. I still include this here though as generally speaking this was a bit of a new development was my fixation on this band in particular. I decided to do a relisten to their whole discog to re-establish a baseline. Symbolic has their most iconic guitar work and melodies, I like the way the sound blends together if I suppose its on the softer, rounder sound of death metal. Momentum filled but not heavy. The drums are extremely tight. I've always felt some of the song structure changes throughout were weird but I think they've grown on me. You can kind of envision the state of mind throughout the structure of the song (which I give comparison to me personally on Children of Bodom)
Second is Hot Pink by Doja Cat. There is no rhyme or reason to me picking this other than I felt in the mood for some like hot pink sexually enpowered tunes. There's a lot of genre and stylistic blending though with great production, signing, rapping and very much a vibe. The good kind of catchy for me. It has to be said that of course as soon as I decide to try to listen to this type of stuff, Doja Cat gets into some drama about disrespecting fans which while I kind of get her points, some of her past is a bit sketchy so yeah thats off putting.
Third up was Baby by Petrol Girls. I like angry music with dissonant guitars and all and so I was interested in this but I didn't expect it to be so direct and sharp in its feminist message which is something great to scream and shout too when you see more misogynistic bullshit. It's also great like stylistically for me the female vibes together and the vocals that honestly give me some RWBY vibes. It's fairly short and the briefness of its lyrics fit, and I really like the instrumentation.
Fourth up was A Farewell to Kings by Rush. As I try to move a bit outside my electronic and metal territory, I've come across a myriad of rock bands but Rush is the only one that is really outside my 'Muse' territory. This was nice, go lucky, yet interesting to listen to. Rush's style just felt, naturally pleasant while not like a repetitive road trip rock. Also, the vocals are honestly relatable to me (high pitch and all)
Fifth up was The Money Store by Death Grips. A classic. And also this album cover goes hard, as does the whole album generally. It's pretty much the definition of going hard but more than that is the production quality among experimental modern music that I generally miss out on, especially in the hip hop sphere (if this even counts as that?)
In this search for new music, I was planning on checking out a Thank You Scientist album. I chose them because they have a sound that is different for me but still fairly accessible. And of course I chose the album The Perils of Time Travel as this is a Twin Paradox reference. It's once again that nice experimental but natural blend of sounds that just works. I don't have to work for it, it just works a bit analogous to the Rush case. It has a bit of that 'calling reaching out' vibe of some kind of rock, some jazzier parts, some parts a bit metal some parts a bit pop punk. I just like how the melodies go in this eclectic kind of technologic ig sound that the best reminder I have is Scar Symmetry (a melodeath band)

As always my thoughts on the new episode!!!!
Spoilers for episode 16 of dndads!!!!
*love the vulture thing (Its fun to know Normal just likes mascots a lot)
*i really love when Anthony calles Normal Normally for some reason
*i did not realize the Lark is Sparrow plottwist at all, but i relistened to that part again and it was so clear! (The voice was diffrent, Lark was less likely to fall to that stuff, saying how Sparrow was kinda stupid and a hippie etc.)
*i enjoy the Oaks raging very much (i adoread Normal yelling at Sparrow -Lark and at Taylor, he just deserves to snap sometimes ya know?)
*Link was great this episode (he is honestly my second favorite at this point) he just speaks to me
*i have to update my Sparrow/Lark designs so they actually look the same :/ but i think they will look better
*little Scary yelling at people to buy her lemonade is so good (also Matt's story was awesome)
(can you tell i am running out of words to describe what i enjoyed?)
*Taylor has reflexes of a ninja and good for him (if he was real i would despise him as a person probablly but he is fun as a charakter)
*Matt saying that we will find out if link is a serial killer cracked me up (my boy deserves a little insanity for his troubles (also it would be kinda ironic if Grant didn't want him to become a "monster" like him but he turned out to be even more brutal) i love how Link can be sassy and stuff(i just love him, he honestly doesn't get apreaciated enought in this fandom)
*fuck Risky Click thst guy sucks!
*Hermie was just chilli g and i love that for him (i think he would just be standing in the backround looking at stuff or something when the chaos is happening around him
*i hope we get an actual Sparrow -Normal confrontation, again he deserves to snap and be angry at his father
*i feel like taylor is like really guialable to magic tricks
*Link figts like women in marvel films (just with his legs), and that is very cool of him i think,
*Tablerona!!!!! We saw an npc from seoson one!!!
*the curency being memories and emotions is such an intresting concept, i'm guessing that's what we will be doing for the next few episodes.
*Scary my girl, why are you singing to someones death? I know you have that whole punk-goth-i-don't-care-about-others-feelings-thing but wtf?!?
*Taylor is still doing his protagonist shit and i kinda love it
Also my doodles for this one: (i did a lot this episode also some of these might get turned into actual pieces idk) enjoy my ugly unreadable handwriting
#dungeons and daddies#dndads#just my thoughts#this was a lot#i might update this but idk#i am on vacation so j got to see this earlier than most days#great episode#spoilers for episode 16 dndads#spoilers for dndads

The more I think about it, the more I don't know how I feel about the Magnus Archives announcement. I know there aren't any details yet, but the closer we get to the 30th, the more confused I feel, and the more I'm hoping that this is one big Hello Jon, apologies for the deception joke.
On one hand, I'm excited. The Magnus Archives was and still is very important to me. I care deeply about the characters and the story. This podcast will be in my favourites pile for years to come, and I will keep re-listening and recommending it to people.
When it ended, like most of the fandom, I was really sad that the story was finally over. No more theorising, no more waking up with excitement for new episode. No more new Magnus Archives. So, if you'd told me back then about this then I would have been ecstatic.
But now, I don't know.
I know how I feel when things I'm excited about are about to be released, and I'm not feeling it now. I feel nervous, I feel worried, and I feel confused. I want there to be more Magnus Archives, but I also don't. I want to feel excited, and I do, I'm following this closely and hanging on every new update, but also I don't feel true excitement about this.
I think it's because all good things need to end one day. Let's be honest, we all know things that have existed long after their expiry date because creators and producers refuse to let them go. Shows and books and podcasts and things that mean so much for us will eventually finish. I mourned the show finishing, but I knew I could relisten and that it would be there for me when I needed it.
But in the end, the story finished, the tape reached its end. And I really like that ending. I like the ambiguity, the choices made by the characters, the way it finished with one last statement. I like having my own head cannons about what happened next to Jon and Martin. I like the completed work as it is.
I don't want beyond answers, I don't want the post-finale story I built for me to enjoy to be proven wrong.
But at the same time, I do think I trust the people behind this. And I do want more Magnus Archives and I am excited for what comes next. I'm just hoping that whatever this is accepts that Jon and Martin's stories are over. That their ending was right, and that it should be respected.
Maybe it's why I'm looking for the Jonah Magnus rickroll at the end of all this, for a Gertrude prequel, for a collection of unrelated horror stories. I'll be excitedly tuning in when it releases, and I have faith that it will be good.
But the small part of me that doubts, that loves the show and the story it built, hopes that this isn't Rusty Quill trying to hold onto the past.
#tma#the Magnus Archives#words are hard#and idk how to say what im feeling#and this is probably a mess#but at the same time im confused#i hope this makes sense

Hey everymany, it's Shiny back from the utter dead. I'm retrying the whole podcast thing, starting with The Adventure Zone: Balance, as it's the first podcast I listened to. Hopefully from there I'll be back on the TAZ train, finish TAZ as far as I can go, and start relistening to other podcasts.
I prefer a good mix of funny and serious podcasts. In the past I've leaned heavily towards horror podcasts. Looking to relisten to (specifically) Mabel, I Am In Eskew, other horror podcasts of that nature. I also do like non-fiction podcasts, but I have to really be in the mood and it has to be so tailored to my interests.
Other podcasts I have listened to and promptly forgotten the entire plot of:
The Magnus Archives
Stellar Firma
Oh shit I did listen to that Rusty Quill DnD podcast for a while. Don't remember that one at all. Not even the name
Hello from the Hallowoods
other ones I cannot remember
The OG safe space for a certain special little guy (fitzroy maplecourt) especially when he's aromantic (which is always). I will be making 10 million aromantic headcanons so don't mind me at all. I love aromantic-izing your favs and I will not stop.
If you want my main blog, feel free to ask. I have grown and changed a lot since my og time on this blog so if you have any questions or want life updates or anything just ask. View my aropocasting resume (singular post).
