TGIWednesday: Releasing judgment download
TGIWednesday News
So we all do it ...whether it’s looking at someone driving a Bentley or a homeless person... I'm talking about judgement. If and when you can and as often as possible, release any and all judgement about any and everything. Discernment and direction are different and needed - opinion and positionality about things is fine too. Judgement seems to have that negative connotation of putting something or someone down so we’re releasing our need to do that as you read this now. The Buddha said, “be an observer of the play, not a participant” and I believe that means to be of joy, help others without getting caught up on the stage of ego and judgement. Keep this in mind throughout today and everyday and send people that are less fortunate than you; vibes of love and compassion and for those driving the six-figure car, bless them and ask Spirit to bless them and you with all you could ever need. Join us for our monthly Zoom call which appropriately enough is dedicated to Empaths, those that are easily affected by others and take on other people’s energy We will clear you of it and strengthen your protection!

Q & A WITH JIMMY Q) "Would you recommend another session and does whatever was cleared in the first session intended to be permanent or is it something we have to keep fishing for? From the one session we had, do you expect any changes to occur straight away? Do I need to be fishing every day as well? I have read the MLF starter kit but unsure if I am doing this right. If I test positive for a statement - am I supposed to fish downwards from heaven to ground or am I supposed to leave it and not fish at all since its already positive? I was a bit confused because in my call I thought I heard you say 'good, we don't need to do anything with that' when it was positive? How do the audios work? Are they just meant to be listened to without fishing?" - Rachel S. A) "The choice is yours as to what you feel/intuit would work best regarding a 2nd session. Changes can be sudden and profound while others take time, and we never know what will happen and that’s part of the fascination of My Liquid Fish Change made simple. The Audio MP3’s are plug and play meaning all you have to do is listen to them! Think of yourself/life/fishing as a garden and daily there is something that needs to be done in the garden. If it already tests positive on a statement for something you desire, then leave it. You could also hit on other related word tracks to reinforce it.. There is also a course online https://jimmymackhealing.com/certification-program whenever you decide to take that. Yes you’ll want to fish daily and it would be hard for me to answer all your questions about fishing because it would create more questions and after 9 books and an e-course, you can see that while it’s simple, it is also deep and has tangents and angles/angels involved in it!" - Jimmy Mack

This Is What Gluten-Free Experts Actually Eat Every Day
If you eat gluten-free, you know how overwhelming, confusing and time-consuming it can feel.
We asked a team of experts ― including a top gluten-free registered dietician, a researcher, a doctor and cookbook authors ― what they really eat. Their insights offer simple suggestions for how to overcome the daily challenges of eating gluten-free.
Remember, eating is personal, so always do it your way.
If you’re following a gluten-free diet, you’re lacking whole grains. Here’s how to substitute for them.
Eating gluten-free can lead to a deficiency of whole grains and put your cardiac health at risk, according to a 2017 heart health study published by British Medical Journal. It’s imperative to find creative alternatives to whole wheat in your diet. What do the experts reach for?
Oats A great source of whole grains and fiber, oats help keep the gut healthy, too. Alessio Fasano, author of Gluten Freedom and founder of the Center for Celiac Research, said that certified gluten-free oats are tolerated by 95 percent of those with celiac disease.
Tiffany Hinton, a blogger at Gluten-Free Mom Certified and author of several cookbooks, said she makes fiber-filled steel-cut oats and mixed berry salad with chia seeds in the morning for herself and her three young girls.
As a busy new mom, Lori Welstead, a registered dietician at the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center, prepares overnight oats so breakfast is ready to grab and go.
Dr. Sheila Crowe, director of UC San Diego’s Celiac Disease Clinic, eats oatmeal with nuts to include healthy fats.
Whole grain bread Bread containing sorghum, millet and teff provide gluten-free whole grain health. Welstead recommends Little Northern Bakehouse’s Millet & Chia Bread. It contains 3 g of fiber, toasts up crunchy and is great for sandwiches. The company makes a variety of loaves and buns with ancient and whole grains.
Quinoa A favorite side for Crowe is cooked quinoa sautéed with multicolored peppers, spinach and onions.
Nicole Hunn, Gluten-Free On A Shoestring blogger and cookbook author, admits she doesn’t like quinoa’s texture, but has created a killer quinoa chocolate cake recipe.
Gluten-Free On A Shoestring
You can find this gluten-free quinoa chocolate cake recipe on the Gluten-Free On A Shoestring blog.
Rice is gluten-free, but contains trace amounts of arsenic. Here’s what to eat instead.
Many prepackaged gluten-free products made with rice flour contain some inorganic arsenic. In 2015, Dr. Brian Jackson from the Trace Element Analysis Core Laboratory at Dartmouth worked with Tricia Thompson of the Gluten-Free Watchdog to lead extensive testing of arsenic in rice.
Based on the findings, Thompson told HuffPost, “I am convinced that inorganic arsenic intake among the gluten-free community is a serious concern and it deserves our attention.”
Thompson found the nastiest culprits in rice bran, rice syrup and rice milk. She recommends avoiding or reducing products that contain these ingredients. How do the experts find the right balance?
Try a variety of sides Welstead looks to potatoes, quinoa and polenta as sides instead of rice. When choosing pasta, she likes zoodles and bean or lentil varieties that add fiber.
Thompson admits that she eats rice as a comfort food with dinner twice a week. To provide a range of grains, she chooses pasta made with corn and quinoa and avoids most prepackaged foods. She emphasizes that this choice works best for her, and isn’t right for everyone.
When baking with alternative flours, read the label carefully Most baking mixes and prepackaged flours use rice flour as a base, so the experts bake from scratch.
Welstead and Crowe use alternatives including coconut and almond flours. Hunn, who bakes constantly for her blog and cookbooks, makes a lot of recipes with oats and oat flour.
A little planning goes a long way.
We asked experts for their easy meal suggestions and tips for approaching meal plans.
Instead of weekly planning, Hunn relies on a well-stocked pantry filled with staples to feed her active kids. She said, “People think because of my job, I have dinner in the bag, but the truth is, I’m scrambling to make dinner just like everyone else.” One of her family’s favorite go-to meals is her homemade “rice-a-roni.” “I prep half way to save time,” she said. Before the kids get home, she cuts up boneless, skinless chicken so it’s ready to cook, and her pantry always has the pre-mixed base on hand. The whole meal cooks in one pan and is ready in 30 minutes.
As a celiac who suffered with health problems for years, Hinton found healing though whole foods and is committed eating 6-9 cups of greens a day. Pre-planning gives her peace of mind. Since jarred salads are a mainstay, “prepping the salad jars and berry salad on the weekends makes it easy to take with me and saves time throughout the week.” Don’t limit dinner to tradition. During an especially busy week, Hinton reaches for smoothies or a cold plate with veggies, hummus, and fruit for dinners.
Welstead plans weekly meals with her chef husband, keeping in mind what they have a taste for and produce that’s in season. They grill on the weekend and use the veggies and protein throughout the week. Tacos are one of their favorites. “You can use chicken, fish, pork or grilled veggies for fillings,” she said. Leftovers become enchiladas or nachos. “We like balanced meals that make us feel satisfied and try to eat a rainbow of vegetables.”
Crowe’s favorite simple meal during summer is a Greek salad topped with grilled meat.
On a busy night, Thompson makes hearty bowls filled with rice, black beans, tomatoes, onions, avocados and corn.
Gluten-Free On A Shoestring
Gluten-free blogger Nicole Hunn makes this homemade “rice-a-roni.”
You have several options for gluten-free snacks, either homemade or prepackaged.
On an ideal day, we’d all choose fresh fruits, veggies and hummus, nuts and popcorn to munch. But when life happens, even nutrition experts are human. Here’s how they mix it up.
Hinton suggests thinking of frozen food as snacks. “Frozen fruits and veggies have great fiber and phytonutrients. Flash freezing keeps all the nutrients intact. I munch on frozen peas, mangos and blueberries, especially in the summer.” When in a rush, a favorite snack is Zegosnacks Seed and Fruit Mix-ins. This new product features a scannable label that provides immediate transparency of product testing, a game-changer for gluten-free living.
Welstead makes her own roasted chickpeas. “They take just 10 minutes and have tons of fiber, protein, and contain less fat than nuts.” When on the go, she chooses Saffron Road brand, and was recently pleasantly surprised by BIENA’s dark chocolate variety.
When it comes to snacking, Thompson loves crunch. Determined to reduce her rice intake, she searched for an alternative to rice crackers. Her favorite finds were Skinny Pop Popcorn Mini Cakes and pistachios.
When throwing a gluten-free party, make what you’d normally make for yourself.
Throwing a gluten-free dinner party can seem daunting, but Crowe’s advice puts it into perspective. Her motto for entertaining is, “Make it reflect what you do in real life and no one will even notice it’s gluten-free.”
She recently threw a Canada Day party (she and her husband, both Canadians, share a birthday on that day too). To celebrate, they served a cheese plate, cedar plank salmon with dill sauce, grilled veggies, her favorite quinoa dish, and for dessert, cheesecake with berries. Since beer is not naturally gluten-free, wine is her beverage of choice.
You can shop without losing your mind — or your paycheck.
If you’ve ever compared prices, you know gluten-free packaged goods can be expensive. Here’s how the experts tackle that problem.
Eat seasonal produce All five experts incorporate lots of fruits and veggies daily. Buying produce that’s in season keeps prices reasonable. Look for deals at the store and farmers markets. “I always look at the day-old produce rack for items I will be using in the next two days,” Hinton said.
Welstead and Hinton, both in the Chicago area, enjoy the ease of Imperfect Produce, an ingenious, new delivery service of “ugly” fruits and vegetables. Consumers choose their items, receive home delivery weekly or biweekly, and save time and money (30-50 percent less than grocery store prices). They’re also saving food, water and energy from going to waste. The service is available in parts of California, Portland, Seattle, Chicago, and Indianapolis, and quickly expanding.
Online options Thompson buys staples from health-inspired site Vitacost and takes advantage of free shipping by ordering the minimum dollar amount.
Crowe, who regularly speaks at events for gluten intolerance and celiac organizations, notes that staying social and joining a group can lead to benefits like organizing a co-op in your area to buy staples like flour in bulk.
Don’t reinvent the wheel. Try these great resources.
Gluten-Freedom Project Welstead gets inspiration from this meal-planning website. Founded by a family who initially felt overwhelmed eating gluten-free, the site allows users to customize meal plans, generate a shopping list, and find recommended products.
Recipe Revolution This app (available on iOS) is a new tool that will convert any recipe to be gluten-free. Welstead, an avid user of the app, said it was created by someone with celiac disease.
Better Batter Feeling overwhelmed with baking? Use a packaged all-purpose flour instead of mixing your own. Hunn recommends Better Batter for consistent results. Besides being glad the recommendation comes from a gluten-free recipe developer, you’ll also love that the flour is GMO-free, free of 11 top allergens, vegan friendly, and low in arsenic. Dessert, anyone?

Why NewRetirement is my favorite retirement planning tool
Over the past week, I've shared two terrific retirement planning tools. First, I explored the pros and cons of Personal Capital. Next, I looked at OnTrajectory, which is the best traditional retirement calculator I've found.
Today, I want to talk about NewRetirement. Since I discovered it two years ago, NewRetirement has become my favorite tool for retirement planning. I like NewRetirement because it offers amazing levels of customization. Plus, it explains its assumptions and offers ample information about every subject it tackles. And it does all of this without ever becoming overwhelming. It's comprehensive and customizable, yet clear. Most importantly, NewRetirement is more than just a retirement calculator. When I say it's a retirement planning tool, I mean that. NewRetirement offers three levels of service. Planner, the basic level of service and the bulk of what I'll review in this article is free. You do need to provide an email address, but once you do, you're able to create a personalized retirement plan. (I'll show you what that's like in a moment.)If you like the basic level of service and want more, you can upgrade to PlannerPlus for $6/month. This gives you access to advanced retirement planning tools, more detailed reports, and the ability to print your plan. (NewRetirement is offering GRS readers a 30-day free trial of PlannerPlus, by the way.)At the highest level, you can pay NewRetirement for personalized advice from a Certified Financial Planner. Unlike Personal Capital, NewRetirement won't pester you over and over to use their advisors. But the service is available for those who need it. As I mentioned, I've been using NewRetirement for a couple of years. In order to give an honest and complete review today, I created a second NewRetirement account and walked through the process of setting everything up from scratch. Do I still like the tool as much as I did in April 2017? Let's find out. Disclosure: Before I begin this review, I need to make one thing clear: I am an investor in NewRetirement. When I first found the service two years ago, I liked it so much that I started an email conversation with founder Stephen Chen. That grew into a friendship. Since then, I've invested $50,000 of my own money into the company. (Also, I was the first-ever guest on the NewRetirement podcast!) Having said that, I've done my best to provide an honest review here. Getting Started with NewRetirement After you register for an account, NewRetirement starts by asking you a series of basic questions. (You can opt to by-pass these questions if all you want is a simple retirement calculator.) Here's how I answered using my current financial state.
When you've finished entering your basic info, you're presented with the NewRetirement dashboard. It's here that you first get a hint that this retirement tool is more robust than any of the others. Front and center is a progress barand because you're new, that progress bar is nearly empty.
Even if you didn't flesh out your initial data, NewRetirement would give you some useful info. (Meaning that if you read this article and want to look at what the tool does, you can click over and get a quick overview of your financial future in just a couple of minutes.) The fun really starts, however, when you dig deeper into NewRetirement. Digging Deeper into NewRetirement As the dashboard implies, NewRetirement features 33 different retirement planning sections divided into ten broad categories. In each section, you can enter data and/or change assumptions. If all of this were dumped on the user at once, it'd be overwhelming. Fortunately, it's a step-by-step process that never gets out of control. The ten main categories that NewRetirement tackles are: Basic profile and goals, including your age, life expectancy, desired legacy, and plans for retirement. (The latter is a written statement. I love it! Most retirement tools are all about the numbers. NewRetirement digs deeper.)Social Security, where you can enter your estimated retirement benefits and start date. If you don't know what to expect from Social Security, NewRetirement links to the official government website and a Social Security calculator.Work and other income. In this section, you can specify how much you earn from your job, but also input money from dividends, interest, rental properties, and other sources.Annuities and pensions. If you have access to an annuity or pension, you can enter your info in this section. I won't have either of these, so I skip this section.Savings and assets. This is a large section in which you list your tax-advantaged retirement accounts, regular investment accounts, bank accounts, large assets, and ongoing retirement contributions. Under other assets, I included the various businesses I own pieces of (including NewRetirement itself!). I did not, however, value this website.Expenses and inflation. Here you can choose both an optimistic inflation rate and a pessimistic inflation rate. You can also enter any known large one-time expenses in your future, such as buying a home, sending the kids to college, or charitable giving. You can tell NewRetirement which account the expense will come from, the age it will occur, and the reason for the expense. Pretty cool. Lastly, if you think your core spending will change over time, you can specify that here. Right now, for instance, I think I'm spending $5000 per month. If I think that spending will drop to $3500 per month when I turn 55, I could model that in this section.Housing, where you enter the current value of your home, the balance on your mortgage, and project future home appreciation. Another cool feature: You can model future changes to housing or mortgages. If I think that Kim and I will sell our current home and downsize in a decade, for instance, NewRetirement will let me do that. (Minor quibble: When I'm projecting my future, I assume that we'll sell this house in ten years and then rent a place. NewRetirement won't let me explicitly model that. My workaround is to model buying a new home for $1, then bumping my monthly expenses by $1500 to compensate for rent.)
Medical and long-term care. As you probably know, medical costs are one of the fastest-rising yet most oft-overlooked chunks of the average American budget. NewRetirement includes an entire section for modeling current and future health-care costs.Debts. NewRetirement allows you to list all of your current debt (plus links to advice on how to manage your debt, if it's problematic).Estate planning. This section doesn't have a lot of resources but offers a bit of information. Plus, it lets you track whether you've completed important estate-planning documents. Nearly every step of the way, NewRetirement offers you the ability to learn more about relevant topics. For instance, when you enter your expected longevity, NewRetirement links you to a life-expectancy calculator and suggests five related articles.
As you tick boxes indicating that you'd like to learn more about a particular topic, relevant articles are added to the info and opportunities tab in the main menu. This is an excellent, useful feature, something I've never seen in another retirement tool.
Forecasting Your Future with NewRetirement Yesterday, it took me about an hour to work through all 33 retirement planning sections in the NewRetirement tool. I've been entering the same info into retirement planning tools for two weeks now, so I know where to find it. If this is your first time, it might take you a bit longer. When I'd finished, the progress bar in the dashboard was no longer empty. It looked like this:
The NewRetirement dashboard contains an Analysis section that's available from the start. After you've entered your basic data during registration, you can use this section to look at a forecast for your financial future. But the analysis becomes more useful after you've entered more complete information. By default, the dashboard displays your Savings Over Time graph (which is very similar to the graph that OnTrajectory keeps front and center at all times).
There's a key metrics view where you can see the core basic parameters and some of the ramifications.
Or, if you want more info, you can access a handful of other charts.
I'm a fan of the Savings Timeline chart because it gives me a quick look at my current financial trajectory.
And as much as I preach that you should not compare yourself to others, I like the compare yourself to others tool haha. (From my past articles about NewRetirement, I know that other GRS readers like this comparison tool too.)
Just for kicks, here's the same comparison view from when I first reviewed NewRetirement in 2017:
As you can see, there's plenty available with the free version of NewRetirement. In fact, it's this free tool that made me rave about the company two years ago. I still love it. I do think OnTrajectory is a strong competitor for NewRetirement. That's a good thing. For many people, OnTrajectory may be a better choice. But the features I've reviewed so far in this article are free at NewRetirement. OnTrajectory costs money after the first two weeks of use. In the future, I intend to promote both OnTrajectory and NewRetirement. They're both excellent. (If you haven't read it yet, here's my OnTrajectory review.) PlannerPlus at NewRetirement As you can see, the free version of NewRetirement packs quite a punch. Without paying a penny, you can do more with it than with 95% of the other retirement planning tools on the web. But what if you want more? For $6/month, you can upgrade from the entry-level NewRetirement service to what the company calls PlannerPlus. Doing so unlocks another menu of options.
Behind the scenes, NewRetirement takes the data you've entered, crunches it based on the tool's assumptions investment returns, inflation, health-care spending, etc. then creates a series of data tables projecting your future financial health. In order to make these raw numbers more accessible, PlannerPlus provides its Plan Inspector, which lets you browse dynamic charts to explore your retirement plan. Here, for instance, I'm looking at how even with optimistic assumptions, my savings will only last until I'm age 75.
With the free version of NewRetirement, you can enter as many expenses as you want, but nothing about the process is guided. It's all sort of free-form. For many folks, that's fine. Others want more help, though. For these people, PlannerPlus includes an advanced budgeting tool.
The budgeting tool in PlannerPlus allows users to model expenses at a far more detailed level. For instance, I could use my existing data from Quicken to enter actual expenses for almost everything.
Most retirement calculators ask for just a couple of Big Picture numbers. The good ones let you explore some level of detail. Like OnTrajectory, NewRetirement allows you to get as detailed as you want so that you can explore a variety of what-if scenarios. With the PlannerPlus upgrade, you can also customize the software's alerts. Do you want NewRetirement to pester you when you use faulty assumptions? When your data is incomplete? When you could take steps to improve your future financial health? If so, do nothing. But if the alerts bug you, you can choose which ones to dismiss. PlannerPlus also allows you to print your plan and/or export it to a spreadsheet. The Bottom Line NewRetirement isn't perfect and I don't want to pretend that it is. As I worked through the tool yesterday, I encountered a couple of minor bugs. Sometimes I couldn't figure out how to model my plans for the future. (How do I convey that I think we might sell the house in ten years, then find a place to rent?) For as much reporting as NewRetirement currently offers, it could always offer more. (We money nerds love to have lots of reports and graphs.) That said, the company is very responsive to bug reports. They update the software regularly, so when users report issues, changes can usually be made within a few days. Plus, NewRetirement is a work in progress. The company is constantly working to improve things, to give more value to their customers even the folks who use the free level of service. Every month, founder Stephen Chen sends me a list of coming upgrades and his plans for the company's future. Much has changed in the two years since I first discovered the tool. Much will change in the years to come. Ultimately, NewRetirement isn't a retirement calculator; it's a retirement planning tool. To me, that's like the difference between a pocket calculator and a spreadsheet. Each has its uses, no doubt. Sometimes, you want the pocket calculator. But sometimes, you want the more powerful option. If all you're after is a quick overview of your financial future, you can use the basic retirement calculator at NewRetirement or one of the dozens of other retirement calculators on the web. (Use OnTrajectory if you want a robust retirement calculator.) But if you want to actually formulate a retirement plan, if you want a retirement planning tool that will actually guide you through the process, NewRetirement is an outstanding choice. NewRetirement is offering Get Rich Slowly readers a free 30-day trial of PlannerPlus. You do have to enter your credit card info to start the trial, but if you decide that the service isn't right for you, you can cancel without hassle. NewRetirement isn't a scammy company. They want you to be happy.
Author: J.D. Roth In 2006, J.D. founded Get Rich Slowly to document his quest to get out of debt. Over time, he learned how to save and how to invest. Today, he's managed to reach early retirement! Five Hot Button Cybersecurity Conversations that Dominated Cisco Live Melbourne
Last month, I attended our biggest-ever Cisco Live Melbourne that saw over 8,300 people registered. It was an action-packed week filled with partner and customer meetings, media engagements, analyst dialogues, and coffee, lots of coffee.
They say it takes a village to pull something this incredible off, and I have to agree. We kicked off the week with our Cybersecurity Innovation Day. It was an exclusive one-day thought-leadership platform for our partners and customers to deep-dive into the skills, processes and technologies to manage security risks, improve agility and operational efficiency with key global and national cybersecurity specialists from Cisco. I also had the honour of addressing over 200 partners with my colleagues from Cisco, TALOS and Duo to share our latest cybersecurity innovation, strategy, and most importantly, to thank them for the success we achieved together over the last 12 months.
Among the engagements and activities, here are five key topics that dominated the conversations I had, which are shaping security professionals’ agendas.
Orchestrated Response Over Kneejerk Reaction
We are seeing security professionals focused on being prepared rather than responding to cyberattacks with a kneejerk reaction. As cybersecurity is recognized and accepted as mission critical to organizations’ ability to transform themselves and compete in the market, we are seeing CISOs focusing on getting the right threat response framework in place to ensure they are not playing catch up when an attack hits.
Our latest CISO Benchmark Study echoes the on-ground sentiment at Cisco Live. Security professionals are changing the way they measure their success based on security outcomes, with many respondents moving toward remediation as a key indicator of security effectiveness. More security leaders are now focused on time to remediate than time to detect, and the metric has risen in popularity as a success metric globally—48 percent of respondents in Asia Pacific cited this, compared to 36 percent in 2018.
However, while security is moving from the server room to the board room, CISOs struggle with translating complicated technical jargon to senior executives at the board level who are not technically savvy. To effectively integrate security as part of a business strategy, security professionals need to be prepared to answer questions from the board in terms that are meaningful and that also outline business implications.
Talent Shortage Continues to Keep CISOs Up at Night
Another challenge that remains top of mind for many security professionals is the cybersecurity talent gap. According to a Cybersecurity Workforce Study by the International Information System Security Certification Consortium, the Asia Pacific region is experiencing the biggest workforce shortage in cybersecurity at about 2.14 million.
Asia’s shortage is attributed to the region’s growing economies and the enactment of new cybersecurity and data privacy legislation. Aside from finding talent, the industry is also struggling with retaining talent and providing cybersecurity teams with the right tools to get the job done when talent is in place.
It is important to understand that collaboration among the different stakeholders–from governments, to companies and educational institutions–is essential as no one can solve these issues alone.
One way Cisco is playing a role is through our Network Academy, an IT skills and career building program for learning institutions and individuals worldwide. Specific to security, the academy has trained 90,000 students globally–10,000 in Asia Pacific, with programs ranging from introductory cybersecurity courses, to advanced cybersecurity courses focusing on how to monitor, detect and respond to cybersecurity threats.
Securing a Multicloud Environment
As businesses digitize, the flexibility, productivity and cost savings benefits of cloud apps have fueled widespread adoption across Asia Pacific. 95 percent of respondents in Asia Pacific said that moving to the cloud has increased their efficiency compared to operating with on-premises solutions.
However, the pervasive adoption of cloud is adding to the complexity that CISOs face when it comes to protecting workloads in a multicloud environment. Many CISOs whom I interacted with expressed challenges with having the same level of control in a multicloud environment as they have with their on-premises infrastructure.
The complexity boils down to a lack of visibility into the behavior of users, the disposition of data, and the network. To address these challenges, CISOs need a complementary, coordinated approach to security across networks, endpoints, and the cloud that assesses risks across multiple cloud environments; tools designed to provide visibility, analytics, control, and responsiveness in a multicloud environment; and knowledge of what the cloud service providers provide, and what they don’t provide, so businesses can protect, react, and respond, no matter where their data, applications, and workloads reside.
Interest and Appetite for Integration and Automation
Another hot button topic that dominated many conversations I had is around integration and automation. This is no surprise considering the complex security vendor environment that many security professionals are in today. Our latest CISO Benchmark Study found that 93 percent of respondents in Asia Pacific said it was somewhat or very challenging to orchestrate cybersecurity alerts from multiple vendor products, higher than the global average of 79 percent.
As cybersecurity professionals find themselves wearing multiple hats, they are increasingly in search and need of a comprehensive security environment in which the solutions are integrated and can work together to defend against potential attacks.
A key component of our integration is Cisco Threat Response (CTR). Threat Response is built upon a collection of APIs; which can be used to integrate Cisco and third-party security products, automate the incident response process and manage threat intelligence and security context data in a single location.
Increased Focus on Protecting the Endpoint
The final recurring topic among my conversations at Cisco Live is protecting the endpoint, especially as today’s modern work environment adds another layer of complexity to security. With people on and off the network as they work in the office or remotely, businesses need a security approach that protects an individual’s identity.
This has led to an increased interest in multi-factor authentication (MFA). With MFA, a person’s username and password are not enough to assume an individual’s identity, and the risk of a hacker getting access to critical data is significantly reduced. However, beyond user-device trust, businesses must ensure trusted access across workforce, workload and workplace.
It is without a doubt that the cybersecurity landscape is constantly evolving. However, the industry is heading in the right direction and I’m highly encouraged by the conversations and discussions that I heard last week.
To successfully transform and compete in today’s business environment, it is important for organizations to ensure that their networks are able to scale optimally to meet the growing demand, they are secure to provide safeguards against any cyberattacks, and can use automation to deliver services in an efficient and productive manner.
Over the next two months, I’ll be diving deeper into some of these topics, where we’ll get to hear from industry experts and explore the challenging environment that CISOs operate in, and the role we can play to help empower CISOs.

There is also a course online https://jimmymackhealing.com/certification-program whenever you decide to take that.

Planner, the basic level of service — and the bulk of what I'll review in this article — is free. You do need to provide an email address, but once you do, you're able to create a personalized retirement plan. (I'll show you what that's like in a moment.)
If you like the basic level of service and want more, you can upgrade to PlannerPlus for $6/month. This gives you access to advanced retirement planning tools, more detailed reports, and the ability to print your plan. (NewRetirement is offering GRS readers a 30-day free trial of PlannerPlus, by the way.)
At the highest level, you can pay NewRetirement for personalized advice from a Certified Financial Planner.
Getting Started with NewRetirement
After you register for an account, NewRetirement starts by asking you a series of basic questions.
Front and center is a progress bar…and because you're new, that progress bar is nearly empty.
Even if you didn't flesh out your initial data, NewRetirement would give you some useful info. (Meaning that if you read this article and want to look at what the tool does, you can click over and get a quick overview of your financial future in just a couple of minutes.)
The fun really starts, however, when you dig deeper into NewRetirement.
Digging Deeper into NewRetirement
As the dashboard implies, NewRetirement features 33 different retirement planning sections divided into ten broad categories.
In each section, you can enter data and/or change assumptions. If all of this were dumped on the user at once, it'd be overwhelming. Fortunately, it's a step-by-step process that never gets out of control.
The ten main categories that NewRetirement tackles are:
Basic profile and goals, including your age, life expectancy, desired legacy, and plans for retirement. (The latter is a written statement. I love it! Most retirement tools are all about the numbers. NewRetirement digs deeper.)
Social Security, where you can enter your estimated retirement benefits and start date. If you don't know what to expect from Social Security, NewRetirement links to the official government website and a Social Security calculator.
Work and other income. In this section, you can specify how much you earn from your job, but also input money from dividends, interest, rental properties, and other sources.
Annuities and pensions. If you have access to an annuity or pension, you can enter your info in this section. I won't have either of these, so I skip this section.
Savings and assets. This is a large section in which you list your tax-advantaged retirement accounts, regular investment accounts, bank accounts, large assets, and ongoing retirement contributions. Under “other assets”, I included the various businesses I own pieces of (including NewRetirement itself!). I did not, however, value this website.
Expenses and inflation. If I think that spending will drop to $3500 per month when I turn 55, I could model that in this section.
Housing, where you enter the current value of your home, the balance on your mortgage, and project future home appreciation.
NewRetirement includes an entire section for modeling current and future health-care costs.
Debts. NewRetirement allows you to list all of your current debt (plus links to advice on how to manage your debt, if it's problematic).
Estate planning.
As you tick boxes indicating that you'd like to learn more about a particular topic, relevant articles are added to the “info and opportunities” tab in the main menu. This is an excellent, useful feature, something I've never seen in another retirement tool.
Forecasting Your Future with NewRetirement
Yesterday, it took me about an hour to work through all 33 retirement planning sections in the NewRetirement tool.
There's a “key metrics” view where you can see the core basic parameters and some of the ramifications.
Or, if you want more info, you can access a handful of other charts.
I'm a fan of the Savings Timeline chart because it gives me a quick look at my current financial trajectory.
And as much as I preach that you should not compare yourself to others, I like the “compare yourself to others” tool haha.
(If you haven't read it yet, here's my OnTrajectory review.)
PlannerPlus at NewRetirement
As you can see, the free version of NewRetirement packs quite a punch. Without paying a penny, you can do more with it than with 95% of the other retirement planning tools on the web. But what if you want more?
For $6/month, you can upgrade from the entry-level NewRetirement service to what the company calls PlannerPlus. Doing so unlocks another menu of options.
Behind the scenes, NewRetirement takes the data you've entered, crunches it based on the tool's assumptions — investment returns, inflation, health-care spending, etc. — then creates a series of data tables projecting your future financial health. In order to make these raw numbers more accessible, PlannerPlus provides its “Plan Inspector”, which lets you browse dynamic charts to explore your retirement plan.
The Bottom Line
NewRetirement isn't perfect and I don't want to pretend that it is. (We money nerds love to have lots of reports and graphs.)
That said, the company is very responsive to bug reports. They update the software regularly, so when users report issues, changes can usually be made within a few days.
Plus, NewRetirement is a work in progress. The company is constantly working to improve things, to give more value to their customers — even the folks who use the free level of service.
If all you're after is a quick overview of your financial future, you can use the basic retirement calculator at NewRetirement — or one of the dozens of other retirement calculators on the web. (Use OnTrajectory if you want a robust retirement calculator.)
But if you want to actually formulate a retirement plan, if you want a retirement planning tool that will actually guide you through the process, NewRetirement is an outstanding choice.

Letters to the Editor (October 30, 2018)
Who decides how rare a new coin issue should be?
The brilliant marketing bureaucrats at the U.S. Mint have now created their second rare palladium Eagle in 2018 with a 15,000 mintage limit, presumably as an early Christmas gift to coin dealers and wholesalers.
I went online at 12 p.m. and attempted to buy the coin. I thought I had successfully purchased the coin, but at 12:06 I received a message that the coin was no longer available. This has happened all too often in the last few years and must end.
It is unethical for the Mint, a U.S. government agency, to create “rarities” with unrealistic mintage limits as obvious gifts for dealers and wholesalers who line up their families and friends to grab the entire production in a few minutes and then sell them to collectors for a large profit. If there are to be profits, they must inure to the benefit of the federal government. The Inspector General of the Treasury should investigate the individuals who made the scarcity decisions for the palladium coin, the gold dime, and several other recent issues. They are either facilitating impermissible favors for their dealer friends or they are simply stupid. Either way, something must be done about this because it happens once or twice a year.
A rational Mint policy would provide a 30- to 60-day pre-order period for all potentially rare issues, with subsequent production only to fill those orders. Under that policy, there would be no waste for the Mint, no unsatisfied customers, and no unethical gifts to coin dealers and wholesalers.
Don W. Crockett Washington, D.C.
Cashless future will arrive sooner than many think
I just read a review on CNN.com of a new Amazon Go store, the future of retail. Here are some pertinent excerpts:
“You won’t see a single cashier, cash register, or self-service checkout stand. Such things have no place in the future. You simply walk in, grab what you need, and go. Amazon bills your credit card as you pass through the turnstile on your way out. Moments later, an app in your phone provides a receipt detailing what you’ve bought, what you paid, and even how long you spent inside.
“Imagine a world where you never wait in line, or even open your wallet. A world where stores know so much about you that they recommend products and lead you right to them. A world where shoplifting, which according to the National Retail Federation drains some $47 billion from retailers nationwide each year, is all but impossible.”
I can’t help thinking about all of the readers of Numismatic News who think they can’t live without the billions of cents that are minted every year. People, like it or not, your way of life is changing. Welcome to the future, and the future is here.
Peter Glassman Schaumburg, Ill.
Restaurant finds begin with Wheat cent in a tip cup
My wife and I ate at a restaurant in Eden, N.C. I went to pay at the register when I saw a wheat cent in the tip cup. I pulled it out and noticed the other coin in the tip cup was also a wheat cent. I asked the cashier if I could exchange them, and she said she had more in the register. She then proceeded to pull out many more wheat cents for me. I asked where she got them, and she said the bank down the road. At the bank, they were kind enough to give 10 rolls for $5, which produced only normal finds. But the ones I got at the restaurant were G-VG: 1912-D, 1921-S, 1929-D, 1939-S; VF or better: 1942-D, 1947-S, 1951-S, 1954-S, plus many common ones starting in the teens, which I did not put into 2x2s. Keep searching, they’re still out there!
Denny Dean Reidsville, N.C.
More readers should try collecting lowball coins
I was really tickled to read Mike Walker’s Viewpoint in the current (Oct. 2, 2018) issue on looking for “Lowball” coins.
I have been chasing these “less than perfect” critters for over 15 years and have had an absolute ball doing so. It really charges my batteries when I see the look on a dealer’s face when I go into his shop and ask to see his junk box because “I have a Type Set I want to downgrade.”
I explain that I’m assembling “The World’s Worst Type Set” and could probably use some of the doggies he has in the box way in the back of his safe.
My M.O. is that I only want coins that will grade (by PCGS) in FR-02 or PO-01. This sounds easy, but in order to qualify for a PCGS holder, the coin must have only good, honest wear, with no damage. Also, the date must be identifiable, as well as the mintmark, if it has one. This eliminates about 95 percent of the low-grade coins for consideration, with the remaining 5 percent probably falling under the pocket piece category.
If one takes up the challenge, one will soon find that this is true collecting at its finest. You must be just as critical of the prospective purchase as you would for a Mint State coin, but only after a very severe mindset readjustment. An AG-03 or better coin is “too good,” and one with the appropriate wear but with scratches, a ding, or corrosion, is unacceptable. Later-date coins are especially difficult to locate for obvious reasons, so if you uncover a qualifying FR-02 or PO-01 Ike or SBA, you’ve hit the jackpot!
As did Mike, I encourage collectors to take up the gauntlet on this and search out those “beautiful” lowball coins – I guarantee that it will be every bit as challenging as finding “normal” coins for your collection, and you’ll have as much or more fun in the search!

How does numismatic activity create unity in our clubs?
As the contact person to the American Numismatic Association for The South Brevard Coin Club, the ANA sent me the questions for the 2017 Trivia Quiz just two days before our June meeting.
Remembering the year prior and how one of our members wound up answering almost all of the questions himself, I admit my very first reaction was to ignore the quiz. Those questions are difficult. But better thinking came to mind and, at the club meeting that Wednesday, I presented copies of the questions to the members.
I further went on to say that if we want to take the challenge, the best way might be for each of us to take a question and then commit to completing the answer in the next few days. We agreed to go with that plan.
Reading each question out loud, one of the members volunteered to take that question and answer it by Saturday, just three days away. On Thursday, I had received six answers by late that afternoon. I asked Jack, our secretary, to put out a notice of where we were and to keep going. We sent another update Friday afternoon. By Saturday night, we had our answers ready to be sent to the ANA.
This process added some excitement to our club’s members. Oftentimes we had been a bit lackadaisical in our efforts, failing to get much volunteer activity or enthusiasm on ideas calling for action. But now we had something with which to feel pride and satisfaction. Those feelings helped us this year as we made an exhibit for the January Florida United Numismatists Show.
We had never made an exhibit in the past, but several members volunteered to contribute to this effort on how living near Cape Canaveral has influenced us in our collecting hobby. We won first place in the Coin Club group.
We have a new spirit of cooperation among our members now as we enjoy our hobby, improve our meetings, and gain new members every month. It all goes back to working together for the unity of the club.

I bought my plastic broom in the frenzied cleaning portion of my last apartment move. The amount of time and energy I expended trying to decide which broom to buy lasted the duration of my walk to the local Duane Reade, plus the short trip to the cash register. It cost maybe $10.
This is one corner of the American broom market: the unromantic, inexpensive corner many of us are familiar with. For the same price, you could also go to Home Depot and get a humble, conventional version made from broom corn, the straw-like plant also known as sorghum that yellows as it ages. But work your way up the pricing scale — and onto the websites of artists and individuals who make brooms by hand — and you’ll find gangly brooms made from found wood, pleasingly curved hand brooms made from ash and horsehair, thick palm brooms imported from Japan, and classic Shaker brooms with gleaming, octagonal walnut handles. If you want, you can spend $70 or $95 or even $350 on a broom.
The people who make and sell these kinds of brooms say they want to see them in use, and hope that the brooms’ craftsmanship and elevated design will inspire owners to leave them out as decoration when they’re not being used to sweep the floor. But because of its functional (and often gendered) nature, the broom is an everyday object that kicks up a lot of sticky questions when it collides with the artisanal movement.
The complications run along two intersecting axes: price and design. How much should a broom cost? How much should a broom cost if it occupies the blurry space between craft and art? What does it say about divisions of wealth and labor when a person spends hundreds of dollars on a household tool only to hang it on their wall like a work of art? And if a person has no intention of using a broom to sweep their floor — if, say, they hire a cleaning service to do that work — is buying one an act of fetishization?
On the flip side, what’s it to us if someone wants to make cleaning their home a more pleasurable experience? Amazon is big enough; isn’t it a good thing to support individual craftspeople and slower, small-scale production?
It’s worth asking these questions because, anecdotally, I’ve noticed that friends and acquaintances have reactions to the idea of fancy brooms. Some are scandalized. Some are amused, because the thought of someone getting into small-batch broom-making in 2018 seems like a plot line out of Broad City or Portlandia. Clearly, there’s something there. What’s more, you could run the same arguments for any number of artisanal household objects. Brooms are just the example we’ll work with.
In the spring of 2017, Erin Rouse quit her job at the lighting design firm Lindsey Adelman to make brooms full time. She picked up the skill during her time in that job, which allowed employees to study in workshops around the world. She went to the Canterbury Shaker Village in New Hampshire, where she studied with a master broomsquire, the technical term for a broom-maker.
At $80 for a hand broom and $200 for a full-size version, which can reach $350 with a pleated skirt and handle cover, Rouse’s brooms aren’t cheap. Assuming all of her materials are prepped and ready to go — the process of cleaning and sorting by size a 100-pound batch of broom corn can take three or four days — she can make one in roughly two hours, plus the time required to trim the broom and sew a skirt and sheath. If she’s also dyeing the broom, that adds another five days to its production time.
Erin Rouse’s broom-making studio in Brooklyn houses equipment dating to the late 19th century. Custodian Studio
The Brooklyn studio that Rouse shares with a handful of other artists houses a foot-powered machine that likely dates to the 1890s, which rotates a broom by its handle, allowing Rouse to build up its sweeping end layer by layer, and a heavy vise that stands at hip height. It clamps down on the broom, sandwiching a round bunch of bristles such that the broom-maker can stitch it into a more efficient flat shape with a large needle. This vise was a game changer when the Shakers developed it in the late 18th century, and resulted in the style of brooms most Americans know today.
Though Rouse uses traditional American broom-making materials and techniques, she sees her brooms as functional sculptures. She envisions lumpy wooden handles with “a sumptuous little belly,” a bizarre and wonderful mental image. She offers add-ons for her brooms, like fabric skirts and sheaths.
Having been in business officially for less than a year, and in a market that is by nature fairly small, Rouse is still figuring out who her customer is.
“So far it’s been women who are older than me, who are interested in design and interiors. It tends to be established professional ladies, and they’re buying them because it’s functional sculpture,” Rouse says. “I think the more candid clients will tell me that they’re going to hang it as a decoration, but I have sold brooms that people tell me are in use.”
Hannah Beatrice Quinn, a San Francisco-based broom-maker who started making brooms five years ago, says hers land best with an older audience too. Her customers are in their late 20s and early 30s at the very least — people with disposable income and homes they’re invested in. When younger people buy her brooms, it’s usually because they have a keen interest in design or art.
The complication of domestic work being perceived as women’s work is an active presence in Rouse and Quinn’s businesses. As a designer, Rouse wants to engage with that fraught history. Quinn, meanwhile, has noticed that male customers who want to buy a broom as a gift for a woman often question the appropriateness of doing so, worrying that it will send the wrong message about her role in society.
Beyond their symbolism, brooms are, of course, used for sweeping. And because cleaning is not a high-paying endeavor — whether it’s done for free by the person residing in that home or outsourced to a professional — price point is where the conversation around brooms gets tricky.
Rouse and Quinn don’t have the cost-saving benefit of large-scale production, and they are both conscious of the prices of their brooms. Rouse recently knocked hers down from $400 to $350 at the maximum, and started making the less expensive hand brooms because she wanted to offer something that her friends could buy. Quinn sells a smaller $32 version of her brooms, which cost $70 for a full-size version.
At Custodian Studio, Erin Rouse’s broom business, $350 will get you a broom, plus a skirt and sheath. Custodian Studio
There are people willing to pay good money for a beautiful, well-made broom. Hilary Robertson, a New York-based interior stylist and set designer, is the target audience for that.
“I don’t really want to own anything that I don’t find beautiful, even if it’s a washing-up bowl,” Robertson says over the phone. “That’s my business, and the way I live.”
She recently bought one of Rouse’s brooms for her weekend home in Connecticut, an old schoolhouse with an extension. It has stone floors that get dusty very quickly, so Robertson needed a broom, and it has very little storage space, so she needed that broom to look especially good. Indeed, anyone who’s buying a luxury broom is doing so because they consider it part of their furniture, Robertson says. But that doesn’t mean it’s a choice lightly made.
“I think it’s not something you just say, ‘Oh, yeah, a $400 broom, sure. I’ll have one of those,’” she says. “It’s not a throwaway purchase.”
Which, interestingly, is exactly what happened to my $10 Duane Reade broom. It leans against my refrigerator next to a Swiffer that gets all the action. I never use the broom; when I do, a fluffy mass of hair and dust bunnies gathers in its blue straws, many which stick out at odd angles, helplessly raking the air.
Why do we even care how much a broom costs? It is a known fact in the world of consumer products that if a thing exists, a wildly expensive version of that thing exists too. You can pay $1,650 for a pen. And yet when we’re not accustomed to thinking of an item as an indulgence, a luxury version of it trips our brain’s alarm system. This is why we’re appalled (and, in our horror, sometimes delighted) by Goop gift guides every winter, with their 18-karat gold, $125,000 barbells. How much more unrelatable can you get?
“Because there are brooms for $12 now that you can get on Amazon, people think it’s somehow inappropriate to buy something more expensive,” says Robin Standefer, co-owner of the Roman and Williams Guild in New York, which sells handmade brooms from Japan and Sweden. “I’m hoping to reframe some of that. It’s supporting a micro-economy — a global one with people making things for real use — and these are functional objects. It’s not some cultural prop.”
Standefer runs Roman and Williams with her partner Stephen Alesch. They’ve worked on interiors for some of the most recognizable hotels, restaurants, and clubs in the country: the Standard, the Ace, the Boom Boom Room. These are beautiful, expensive places, and the Guild sells beautiful, expensive goods, like $250 rabbit pillows, $400 glass vases that shimmer with subtle texture, and delightfully knobbly, polka-dotted $220 pots. But Standefer is plainly uninterested in selling brooms as art objects.
“They’re meant to be used, and they happen to be made in a rigorous way,” Standefer says. “We sell [our Japanese broom, currently sold out] for $82. People say we could sell it for $300, that it’s an art object. But when you do, you’re elevating it to a fetish object.”
That is exactly what she doesn’t want to do. Standefer is one of a vocal faction of people in the retail world advocating for goods that are better made and long-lasting, if more expensive. Her feeling is that these unbelievably well-made brooms can be used for decades, saving the shopper money in the long run.
To convince shoppers of the same, she priced the Guild’s brooms lower than she usually would, slimming their margins in favor of making them more accessible to people used to Amazon’s bargains.
“I really believe that you could have this broom for 20 years or more,” says Standefer. “Our consumer economy is about replacing things. This is a big reframing.”
An inky model from Custodian Studio, Erin Rouse’s broom business. Custodian Studio
What we’re willing to pay for is inevitably a matter of what we’ve been taught to pay for — what it’s in fashion to pay for. Right now, people are willing to shell out for ceramics classes (a balm for those who spend too much time on their phones and computers) and handmade ceramics, many of which cost much more than those brooms. Despite features this year in T magazine and on the Strategist, New York magazine’s shopping site, artisanal brooms aren’t quite there yet.
“I think a fancy broom is untested in the way that a very fancy ceramic vessel has been proven,” says Rouse when I ask whether she’s started wholesaling to any retailers (she hasn’t). “You can definitely sell a $1,200 vessel — you can probably sell out of them — but a $400 broom is a little riskier. That would be why I’m making all these hand brooms, so there’s a lower-priced product to prove demand.”
That’s why Standefer sets a lower profit margin on the brooms she sells: We don’t know intuitively that we want meticulously crafted brooms for our homes. But one day, maybe even in a not-so-distant future, we might.

How do I get the car insurance $$ and still keep the car?
How do I get insurance money from a total , and still keep the car? My daughter's front bumper was torn off. The wheel looks a little bent, so it could me major, could be as simple as a tie rod. The adjuster TOTALED the thing! Book value was $2000 LESS than what was stated on car by dealer. I asked insurance how this could be. They said they use NADA, not Kelly. And, they do an outside market evaluation by Standard and Poors. Plus, they go by private sale value, not retail. So all in all, she's poised to get screwed $2000. As usual, the little guy loses again. What a great country! However, 3 years ago, I totaled my vehicle and the insurance company gave me the $$ AND let me keep the car. Will one point on my license make my insurance rate increase?
I have been driving for about two years. Being a new driver, my insurance rate is of course considerably high (on a side note, I think auto insurance is legalized theft). Now. Aside from that, I received a speeding ticket. It was 83 mph in a 55 zone. Oops. In court, the judge reduced it from two points to one point on my license, and the record now shows 64 in a 55. Should I expect an increase in my insurance rates? I am insured with Allstate.""
Mitsubishi eclipse 2007 insurance problems?? :(((?
So I'm sixteen, and my dad said OK to the Eclipse 2007, and everything, but then theres the insurance problem. They said I cant get it without charging my dad and me a ton of money. I'm EXTREMELY attached to this car, basicly as much as lambo fans dream of getting a lambo, but probably even more, because I have a chance of owning this car eventually. I've planned everything, I got a job, I've got saved up for vertical doors, the hook ups, sound systems, everything. I have got to have this car, please, is there ANY way of getting my insurance to insure the Eclipse? I currently have State Farm, but my dad knows how much I LOVE this car, and how much it means to me, and is willing to switch insurances if they will insure me, but so far, none have please, are there any insurance companies that will insure the Eclipse to a 16 year old? or a way to get them to? Who has the best car insurance?
Im looking for car insurance, and I need it soon. Sorry for the flood of questions, but no one is answering... And now the question- How has your insurance company been to you? Since most of the companies I've looked at have similar rates, I have the freedom to choose a company not by pricing, but by how good they actually are. I've spent hours searching reviews of all the major players, and I've seen almost exclusively horror stories about how bad the companies are once you file a claim. Geico, Allstate, and especially progressive (defended policyholders killer in court to weasel out of paying out claim), all seem to have a pretty bad reputation among their customers. Now I'm not a fool, I understand that most reviews are written by people who have been wronged. People are much less likely to write a positive review because their company has followed through, as this is what is to be expected in the first place. It is entirely possible that behind that sour review, there are several satisfied customers who didn't feel a need to review their service. If any of those people read this, please help me out with this choice. Additionally, anyone who may be in the wronged group, if you have a reason that you would not reccomendation your insurance co please let me know! Thanks for any help!""

Car insurance problems?!?
So I've had my license since I was 18 and now I'm 21, my boyfriend has always just let me use vehicles that he would give me that are registered in his name and on his insurance and I already know someone is going to point out its a bad idea I don't have my own vehicle, we have been together 5 years and haven't had a problem, but recently when I was driving my truck, registered and insured by him, some senile old woman pulled out around 8 feet in front of me and stopped right in the middle of the road so her whole car was right in my lane and the back end of her car was still sort of on the road she was pulling out of, I slammed on my breaks and when I realized I wasn't stopping I turned my wheel as hard as I could so I didn't hit her and I ended up just catching the end of her car and totalled mine by hitting the stop sign and about 4 trees on the road she was coming out of because of the fact that I was driving my boyfriend's insured vehicle and me and him live together, his insurance automatically added me to his policy which caused it to sky rocket from $190/mo. to over $400/mo. Auto insurance question?
I had full coverage on my auto policy. My car is at a point where I'm not going to fix it because it would cost more to repair then to replace. However, I'm not going to replace it at this time. My question is, since I will be renting cars at least twice before I get a new car, how do I handle my auto insurance? The policy currently covers rental cars, and is cheaper than the insurance the rental company offers, so I'd like to keep it. should i go ahead and cancel my auto policy, even though I will be driving other cars before i purchase another?""

Got rear-ended in NJ by a woman and my car was determined a total loss. Her car insurance took over a week to come to a decision that they would take 100% liability for the accident. They made me an offer for the dollar amount of value of the car which was honestly more than what I thought the value was going to be. I have 2 questions... Can I ask for compensation for the inconvenience of not having a vehicle during the time that they were making their decision? And two, I went to the hospital after the accident but haven't received the bills from that yet. If I accept their offer for the damage done to the car can I still get reimbursed for my medical bills later?""

Should I take a term insurance rather than home mortgage insurance?
Normally many banks want the home loan borrowers to take mortgage insurance. Here there are controversies since many suggest borrowers should take term insurance instead. But do term insurances always give better protection than term insurance? How does a mortgage insurance compare with term insurance in terms of premium amount, premium payment period, risk cover of death, disability, chronic disease, surrender value, survival benefits etc? Apparently the term insurances are cheaper but have to be paid for a much longer period than mortgage insurance (generally paid for about 1/3rd of loan period.) So which options is better? I would specifically like to know about such products available in India. Thanks.""

At fault driver's car insurance won't pay for my damages!?
Hey guys and gals, My wife was in a car accident on 10/8 driving our truck with liability only insurance (IE: not full coverage because the truck is only worth ~$3000 and it's paid for). She was turning right and had slowed down to turn (with her turn signal on) when a speeding truck slammed into the van behind her, ramming the van in to our truck. The police filed a report, in which the driver of the speeding truck (an 18 year old kid, that had just left his house less than 1/4 mile away) was determined to be at fault. It is worth note that this happened in front of two different auto body shops, and within sight of the house the at fault driver had just left. Their insurance company, state farm, finally contacted us on 11/8 after not returning our phone calls for nearly two weeks saying they had determined he was in fact at fault and would send an adjuster the following Monday. He came, inspected the truck, determined it was repairable, then said we would hear from their office later that day. When they called they told us the damage was more than 75% of the vehicles worth so it was considered total and they would send the required paperwork to my email address to begin payment. Within 3 hours, the claim agent we had talked to the previous Friday said an owner of one of the auto shops had came forward (all of a sudden, no mention of a witness before) and that he had a notarized statement saying the van struck our vehicle before the truck struck the van. The insurance company now will not pay us for the damages. We tried to call the witness and get a copy of his report because State Farm would not give us the copy. Then we called the other auto body shop and both the owner and one of his employees both seen the accident and say that the truck was at fault, and the owner overheard the driver say specifically that it was his fault. When we bring this to the agents attention, she claims this is not evidence because they know the at fault driver. We found out that the first witness also knows the driver, but can't prove it. Ours is a small town, you don't have neighbors that you don't know or speak to. It seems we are at an impasse, and I have been without a truck for nearly 6 weeks. What should I do in this instance? Get an attorney? Our insurance agency is adamant about not intervening since we did not have full coverage insurance. It may be worth noting that my wife has had back and neck pain since the accident and went to the hospital the day of the accident, the family doctor twice since, and has an appointment with a chiropractor next week (all of which our insurance has paid for.)""

""Is a motorcycle cheaper than a car in terms of maintenance, fuel and insurance?""
No matter what I get, my budget most likely will be $5000. But i'm talking about other costs like maintenance, fuel and insurance. I know fuel obviously is much less than a car for motorcycles, but how about maintenance and insurance? Basically i'm a highschool student, I'll be going to college next year, its a 50 km ride one way. Public transit would take me 2 hours...so If possible, i'd like to get a car or motorcycle. I already passed my first road test, but I don't have a motorcycle licence, but I'd like to. Infact the college i'm planning on attending does motorcycle courses and licencing. I'm thinking that If I do get a bike, i'd ride it for september- early november, store it for the winter, then spring till the end of the school year. Obviously I'd ride it during the summer too! I dunno, what do you experts think? You think its a good game plan or am I just in over my head? Which should I get?""

Speeding ticket & avoiding insurance increase?
I received a speeding ticket the other day for going 14 over. This is my second citation in the past year. The previous one being for failure to yield. I CANNOT have this second citation on my record because I can't afford the insurance increase. A friend of mine said he took an online traffic school course and it negated his speeding ticket and kept his insurance rates from increasing. I've found several places to take the online courses for my state, but they don't say whether receiving the certificate of completion will do anything to help remedy my situation. I need to know 1) Reliable online traffic school 2) What to do with the certificate of completion once received (mail to whom? call where?) 3) Does completion of the course guarantee maintained insurance rates. 4) Should I pay the ticket as soon as possible, or wait until after I've completed the course to see if it will negate the fine. Don't tell me just stop being a crappy driver or LOL your fault. I understand my irresponsibility. I just need the answers to my questions, nothing more.""

Need insurance for mercedes car - which insurer will use mercedes repair centre?
I'm buying a Mercedes B class. Swinton have given me some good insurance quotes but during the long conversation (with Aviva) to get 7 day drive-away insurance I was told to be careful of the small print: to keep the Mobilo service I must always use Merc-approved garages for servicing and repairs; unfortunately Swinton's insurers say they will choose where the car goes and this is very unlikely to be a Merc garage. So my question is: what do Merc owners do? From whom do you get your car insurance to make sure any repairs are carried out by a Merc-approved repair centre?

Question about teen car insurance?
So i have a drivers license, im 17 but i dont have insurance i drive my dads 2006 toyota tundra to school everyday. Prom is next week and its about an hour from my house and my dad does not feel comfterable letting my drive up there without insurance, so what im thinking is i can get myself included in his insurance for just that truck so i would just be an extra driver on that truck he has AAA and its $190 a month for me. So i will only need it for a month because i get my own car next month so i will get my own cheaper insurance by then, so the question is can i remove myself from my dads insurance after i pay the first month? I really need it i already have a prom date, im not missing my senior prom.""
In New York: Best health insurance on the cheap?
This information is for my stepdaughter and her family. After long term unemployment her husband recently went back to work as a trucker. He might bring home around $500 per week. They presently have no health insurance, although she said a New York State program would cover her two younger children. This leaves her and husband uninsured because his new job has no health coverage. Somehow she found a company willing to insure them for around $200+ a month. What this insurance covers I do not know. (By the premiums, I don't think much) The problem is they don't have much more than the $200+ to pay per month. Can someone tell me how to find(in New York) legitimate insurance companies with affordable cost? Also how can I educate myself on health insurance, the details, so that I can advise them correctly? They're in their late 30s and in reasonably in good health. Any an all advice greatly appreciated Tony""
