Hello everyone! With help from @auspex, we are putting together the first Tumblr of Darkness Secret Santa event! This event is where artists may come together, submit their World of Darkness OCs, and we can all draw and exchange gifts with one another! Just a little fun to remind one another that we're a great community!

How to Participate: There is indeed a limited amount of time to sign up to make sure everyone has a fair chance! Applications are open 11.04.2024 and will be kept open until Monday 11.11.2024. - You will be submitting your World of Darkness original characters and link their reference materials so that another artist may draw them! Please make sure you have a link that someone may have open access to. This can be a Google Drive folder, your art tag on a social media, etc.  If you make a Google Drive, make sure your Secret Santa does not have to request access and spoil the surprise. In short, just make sure it's easy for your future gifter to look through! Please don't make it a treasure hunt to find out info on your character just to make things easier. When the applications close, we will then put all participants' names into a randomizer to assign everyone their Secret Santa! Auspex and I will make sure to notify you all as soon as possible as well as provide the reference links so that you can have as much time needed to get the artwork finished. You may go as crazy or mild as you like, but just be aware that artists of ALL skill levels are invited to join! Do not be deterred if you feel like you can't draw - that is the devil talking! Every work of art you make is amazing and any gift with heart behind it is wonderful. - For this year, we asks that the gifts remain art-only. Any medium is fine (digital or traditional) but writing, playlists, mood boards, or anything else won't be accepted. Those things are great, and maybe in the future that could be another exchange, but for simplicity's sake - keep it to art, please. What I was saying? Oh, yeah! The prompts have been revealed HERE, so we must refresh the rules. They're the same as last year, but it doesn't hurt to review them again, right? So:

Event Info & Rules

TBB APPRECIATION WEEK is a week-long, prompt-based creation challenge to celebrate our love for the Batchers and the show. There are 7 groups of prompts—one for each day of the week—, which can be used, skipped, or combined in any way you’d like. They are meant to be an inspiration without being taken literally (i.e., you don’t have to include the exact wording of prompts in your work). Feel free to interpret them at your convenience. For example, if the prompt is “anooba”, you can create either something about the animal, use it as a name/mascot of a sports team in your modern-day AU, or as an analogy for someone with a voracious appetite. It’s up to you.

Each group contains a Theme (which is in and on itself a prompt), an AU/Trope, Dialogue, an extra character, NSFW, and a color palette). You can use them in combination or just pick one. The idea is to give everyone as much creative freedom as possible. The participants can create works in any media they choose, including but not limited to: writing, art, edits, gifs, videos, playlists, cosplays, etc. The only restriction is that it needs to be focused on The Bad Batch (can be on a particular Batcher alone).

Also, people can participate as little or as much as they want, meaning that they don’t have to do ALL the days if they can't/don’t want to.

Collaborations are welcome and even encouraged. For example, if an artist and a writer want to work together, or a writer and a podficcer, or two writers, go for it!

Hello! Three questions:

If we signed up but later think of more fic ideas we'd like to work on (for option 2) how would that work? Do we dm you here, or something on the discord, or something else? For example if I only named one longfic idea in my sign up, but later thought of a second longfic idea, how would I let you know?

Is this event anonymous? Because the whole "give a vague description of your work" thing makes me think this will run on anonymity, so I'm just confused there. I thought this was an event to bounce ideas from each other and cheerlead towards a collective goal, but how would that work anonymously?

If this event has a "posting" schedule, does that mean we're meant to work on our projects but hold off on posting them for 3 months?

Yep, you can add more fics (or art pieces) later! You can contact any of the mods via Discord (using the server's ticket function, by sending us a message, or by using the mod-help channel), Tumblr, or email to do this. We'll ask you for the same information as you would've given in the original sign-up form, and then you're good to go!

This event doesn't prioritize anonymity, but it can be anonymous if you need it to be. This event is meant to bring people together to help bounce ideas off of each other and work towards a collective goal, yes, and this level of interaction means you can't be anonymous if you want to talk about your fics specifically or ask for any feedback. However, if you don't join the server, there is no need for anyone to know that you are participating. The 'vague description of your work' section is used to give each individual work its own code. We need to keep track of every single work that everyone submits, so that we know how everyone is getting on with the projects they've signed up with, and this means giving each individual work a unique code. The description you give us will only be used by you to identify your own work later on, and won't be seen by anyone except for the mod team. When the sign up period ends, you'll get a DM that will read (roughly) 'Hi, we're contacting you to give you your individual work codes. Your work [vague description] has work code 001W01'. We just need to make sure you know which work is assigned which code- there's no point saying 'one of your works has code 001W01' if you don't know which work it is! We only emphasize the 'vague' part of the description so that participants don't worry that someone else is going to use their ideas, and so that they can keep their works as secret as they'd like. We have some descriptions that are whole paragraphs and some that are only two words! So long as you can identify it from your other submitted works, you're good to go!

Yes, pretty much. The posting deadline works to give people a goal to work towards, but it also makes it easier for us to make sure that the Tumblr account is only used for important information until the posting period, and that it isn't clogged up by reblogging everyone's hard work. You are expected to hold off posting until the end of the period, though there are exceptions for some multichapter fics and the exact rules for this are still being discussed. Posting all at the same time helps create a sense of community and we can all see just how much work we've put in over the previous three months, rather than seeing it as we go!

Why wasn’t I accepted?

If your application to join our society was denied you will be given an exact reason once our application period is closed. In most cases, you will be advised to apply again during the next round of applications once the issue for denial has been improved/corrected.

How do you decide who is accepted and who isn't?

This comes down to many things, including the fics you've provided in your application form for us to review, your answers to important questions in the application, your blog, etc.

Is my acceptance probability higher if I have a lot of notes/followers?

No, the biggest factor is the quality of your fics. While we're happy for you to have a lot of notes on your posts and followers on your blog, that unfortunately will not be a deciding factor if you will or won't be accepted.

How are the featured fics chosen?

The featured fics page is updated monthly with fics from our society members (members can choose to keep their current featured fic up each month or replace it with a different fic of theirs). We have a channel in our discord server that handles the swap!

Why does the network only accept those 21+?

The plain and simple answer is that we decided to keep it 21+. As a team of older writers, this is an age of users we are comfortable interacting with and believe will provide content that is up to our network standards. We know very well that 18 to 20-year-old writers can also offer great fics, but there are plenty of communities and networks that currently cater to those ages (as well as younger users), but a very few that are exclusively for those 21+.

Why does your tags page only show a select number of kpop groups?

This is just the base that we have accounted for before our launch, if we see that our society members are sharing fics that include other male kpop groups that are not listed we will definitely add them! Our tags page is meant to be updated and added to with time.

Also, there's no mention of you guys working on the saved tags issue? You know the one that's refusing to remember my queue tag, my most used tag? When the support email response specifically said to follow the changes blog for more info. At least an acknowledgement that you're aware of it would be nice.

Please god don't do image recognition. We've been begging you to fix the search--this is not what we meant. We meant that when we search a tag it shows us things with that fucking tag. I click on a tag on my own blog, that I know I have at least a dozen posts tagged under, and it shows me 4. Fix what's broken, don't just add "features" that are going to actively make it worse.

We’ve rolled out dashboard tab configuration options to everyone. We’re still working on adding the ability to change the default tab between Following and For You. Also, if you were in the experiment and had enabled certain tabs, like Popular Reblogs and Blog Subs, please note that those settings have moved back to the Tumblr Labs settings, instead of being configurable options in the new config screen.

We’ve deployed some performance and stability improvements for browsing feeds through the site, including the ability to truly handle endless scrolling. If you disabled endless scrolling in your dashboard preferences on web because it was laggy, give it another try! If you disabled it because you like paged browsing better, keep on keeping on! You’ll still benefit from these improvements.

We’re working on improving search across Tumblr, and one of our latest experiments is to try surfacing posts in search results based on image recognition. If you search for something on Tumblr and it returns a bunch of images that aren’t actually related to what you searched for, and have no other text or tags to indicate why you’re seeing it, please send us some feedback via Support about it, providing the search term you used and what posts didn’t make sense.

In the post editor on web, you can now choose to convert a link block down to an inline text link if you’d like, via the meatball menu on the link block that’s generated when you paste a link.

We’re shortening the ask button label maximum length to 26 characters, and providing better error messages when exceeding that limit.

Replies/reblogs/likes from blogs that have blocked the author, or the author has blocked, will no longer appear in the notes view on your posts for anyone.

We’re now filtering asks and submissions from blogs that have blocked the receiver.

We fixed an issue on the Following and For You tabs that was sometimes causing it to take 10+ seconds to load subsequent pages as you scroll.

In the post editor on web, we’ve fixed a variety of issues with copying and pasting and selecting text.

Clicking to like a post while logged out, and then logging in, now brings you back to the post, instead of bringing you to Explore.

When uploading media in the post editor on the web, the “Post” button stays disabled until the media finishes uploading.

Removing a reblog or reply from the notes on your post removes the associated activity item as well.

Folks can no longer mention blogs that they’ve blocked or are blocked by — this was already covered in most circumstances, but we’ve fixed a few rare cases that have popped up where people have gotten around it.

For anyone confused about the post where it's asked 'what it's called in your house where there's no central meal and everyone gets their own food' or thinking it means there's neglect going on, let me specify that a lack of a central meal in lieu of people taking care of themselves usually happens on an evening where multiple family members have already eaten a lot that day, eaten elsewhere, and/or otherwise there are not enough people hungry in the house to justify making an entire ass meal, so we all collectively decide we'll handle our own food individually. Of course, this does not fully apply to my son who is still too young to make his own meals and though he's learning, I always, always cook him something even if there aren't enough people in the house to justify making a full meal for everyone. This is something my parents did occasionally and something we do occasionally now in my house when it makes sense. Generally this also means there's a shitton of leftovers in the house that need to get eaten and can be easily reheated by anyone. This never means that a family member who cannot make their own food goes hungry.

I just want to kindly ask my moots to please be mindful of what you're commenting on my posts in tags or in reblogs. I don't mind explaining things! I am quite insecure, however, about being a parent and a caretaker to an older family member w/ physical disabilities and Alzheimer's and while I know no one meant to insult that directly with any tags the may have added to that post, I just want to make it clear that this is quite uncomfortable and slightly triggering for me, considering my son and I are both neurodivergent and have been criticized/judged/punished for it before in how we choose to structure our lives to best fit our needs. Perhaps the responsibility lies with me to keep information about how I structure my personal and family life to myself, and generally that's what I do for this reason.

Anyway that's all I'm asking; if I'm posting or reblogging something with info or insight into how I structure my home/family/parenting life (which won't be often) I don't want commentary about it, like one way or the other- because, no offense? But my family works with multiple therapists, psychiatrists and professionals that advise us on how to best structure things and I really don't think anyone on tumblr, whether qualified or not, is going to have the same insight into what is best for us. If you have commentary to add about those things, even if it is not directly aimed at myself, please reblog and add it from the source or anyone that isn't me lol. I know you're super into ponies, and I saw you reblogging something about how much the pony collectors community hates it when d/d/l/g or l/i/t/t/l/e/s/p/a/c/e blogs reblog yours stuff (added slashes so your blog won't show up under search for those tags). Why do they hate it so much? I'm not a part of any of these communities, and I'd like to understand. Thank you!

Hey there! :D That’s ok, I’m happy to try my best to explain!

The reason is actually pretty simple. Obviously I can only speak for myself but I imagine it’s the same for the other collectors as well (But if there is some different reasons I’m sure they’d be happy to add or correct me)

Basically, I collect the 80s My Little Ponies (although I won’t say no to the other generations and own ponies from all 4) I collect them because they were my favourite toys ever when I was small, and I loved the cartoon as a child. I liked it because it really was my first exposure to a high-fantasy setting. And it was done with really cute characters, in nice colours who were nice, sweet and kind to each other, but could still stop bad guys and work through bad situations and were very proactive characters.

As an adult, I can see the flaws in the show now, but I still think it’s highly immaginative with its ideas, and I still love the colours and that the characters don’t have to be snarky or aggressive to be heroic. As for the toys, I’ve always kept my childhood ones. I like them the best because again, I am a big fan of 80s and early 90s colour schemes, which I felt were better harmonised than the 2000s. And I also really liked that they resembled real ponies and weren’t AS stylized as how thy became later.

It’s also fun to be a collector. Because you’re constantly on a treasure hunt! Toys that were a big deal in pop-culture when they came out, and really represent what it meant growing up during that time period. And people don’t fully understand the value of “old toys”. So you’re always hunting at flea markets and thrift stores and some of the strangest places! Looking for collector’s items that the owner doesn’t have any attachment to and only sees as ‘an old toy’. In a way it’s like collecting bone china tea cups while they were still being made in England (before the 60s) or Medallions and medals. They are all a kind of time-capsule to a very specific era, and with ponies, they happen to have faces and be characters. So it’s fun to think of each pony as a little personality you’re finiding somewhere, taking home, cleaning up, and displaying.

These blogs that regblog these things however, have absolutely no interest in the individual items they are reblogging. Because to them, it only represents a sexual kink. Specifically the submissive pastel cutsey ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’ kink. And look, a kink is nothing to be ashamed of as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone. Honest. But the problem comes from the fact that we share photos, screenshots and gifs of these things because we’re honestly interested in the product. Whereas when they then take that post and reblog it, it’s for no reason other than to be part of a bigger kink to get themselves off on. The toys and collectors’ items because a sex toy, basically. Even if just in terms of visuals. It robs the post of its original intention and turns it into smut.

Smut is fine. But in this case it feels like someone has taken something that makes you happy and that you wanted to share with your fellow toy collectors and made it all about getting sexual satisfaction off of it based on what it represents to them; the idea of a girl being in the submissive position of ‘Daddy’s little girl’

It doesn’t become about ponies, or collecting, or showing off the value of a specific item, or about the episode or the character. Honestly the gif could be about anything in the kink blog’s eyes, as long as it fits into the kink they’re into. t robs the post of meaning, and turns it into something dirty.

I’ve recently had some porn blogs reblog some of my artwork by their bots and add things to it like ‘Hey I just got home, wanna chat?’ and ‘Hey I’m gonna be undressing for the camera, here’s a link!” and it has 0 to do with the picture. it’s just a way to promote their porn. And it feels icky you know? You feel taken advantage of. And they’re using your silly drawings to do it, not because they’re drawings, but because they happen to be getting a certain number of notes and reblogs. Your posts are being used and marked with something you’re uncomfortable with without your consent.

It’s the same thing :\ It also bugs a lot of my collector friends because they do their best to plaster their pages with “please don’t interact” banners, headers, tags, and sometimes within the images themselves, and the kink blogs completely ignore it. “consent” is a bit of a hot-button word because of its connotations, but that’s really what it is, isn’t it? “Please don’t reblog this as something to masturbate to.” “I’m gonna do it anyway and pretend you didn’t say ‘no’“

It’s just… it takes a hobby and turns it into something dirty. And then whether we like it or not, it makes us seem like we’re doing it for kinky, smutty purposes, all based on the nature of the toy (in this case, ponies). It builds an association.

Anyway, sorry for the long reply. And I apologise if I got anything wrong. But this is my stance and experience with the matter. And why I personally really don’t like it. I imagine it’s very similar for a lot of collectors.

We collect the toys because it happens to be something we enjoy doing as an activity, from finding, to restoration to displaying on a shelf and looking at and being impressed by each others’ collections.

We share items among each other and trade, and help restore, and share tips on preservation and fixing problems. Some of my collector friends have kids who like playing with the toys themselves. We form friendships based on mutual interests, and its fun to hear each others’ collection adventures and childhood ties with the toyline.

and then someone reblogs it to their kink-specific blog with “dude I could totally masturbate to this.” Even after we have asked nicely “please don’t”

Also I’m sorry if this annoys anyone. I know kinks and stuff are a difficult topic on the internet as a whole, let alone tumblr. And I stand by the opinion that having a kink is fine if it doesn’t hurt anyone. But there is a level of selfish disregard here, and that is the main problem. It’s not all about the nature of sex, but more the active and decided action to ignore the OP’s feelings and requests and just do whatever you want. Until you start feeling like nothing but a ‘gold mine’ for kink blogs. And then you don’t even want to do it any more in the end.

Please help me guys! I’m talking about difficult subjects and I might be wording it wrong! I don’t want to insult anyone by accident ^^; I’m just trying to explain!

Welcome to The Bad Batch Appreciation Week 2023!!!

The time for appreciating Clone Force 99 is near! The prompts have been revealed HERE, so we must set some rules. Seems fair, right? So, here they are:

Event Info & Rules

TBB APPRECIATION WEEK is a week-long, prompt-based creation challenge to celebrate our love for the Batchers and the show. There are 7 groups of prompts—one for each day of the week—, which can be used, skipped, or combined in any way you’d like. They are meant to be an inspiration without being taken literally (i.e., you don’t have to include the exact wording of prompts in your work). Feel free to interpret them at your convenience. For example, if the prompt is “anooba”, you can create either something about the animal, use it as a name/mascot of a sports team in your modern-day/our Earth AU, or as an analogy for someone with a voracious appetite. It’s up to you.

Each group contains a character plus 5 different prompts (SFW, AU/Trope, Dialogue, NSFW, and a color palette). As it says above, you can use any, some, or all of them. Also there's also a short list of jokers/alternatives that you can use only one time each to replace any of the main prompts. The idea is to give everyone as much creative freedom as possible. The participants can create works in any media they choose, including but not limited to: writing, art, edits, gifs, videos, playlists, cosplays, etc. The only restriction is that it needs to be focused on The Bad Batch.

Also, people can participate as much or as little as they want, meaning that you don’t have to do ALL the days if you can't/ don’t want to.

Collaborations are welcome and even encouraged. For example, if an artist and a writer want to work together, or a writer and a podficcer, or two writers, go for it!

When uploading TBB Appreciation Week content to your Tumblr blog, be sure to mention this blog and add the following hashtags:

If you are posting NSFW fics or art on Tumblr, I ask that you use the Keep Reading break and/or the Community Labels to hide the NSFW portion of your work; and please, give the proper warnings; (If you don't know how to do a keep reading break on mobile, go to this tutorial). On Ao3, please, use the correct rating and warnings as well.

There won't be censorship in this event, so everyone is free to create whatever they want. Participants are expected to hold judgment to themselves of others and their works, even if they don't agree with or find it repulsive. That means that harassment of anyone or anything that they post (even if said work is something you personally find morally reprehensible) WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Anyone that breaks this rule will be banned from the event. Curate your own experience by blocking what upsets/squicks/triggers you, and leave everyone else alone. That's the importance of the correct tagging, as it says above.

If an author or artist has asked for constructive criticism, you may give it (with constructive being the keyword). However, refrain to give any of the unsolicited kind, as it can be discouraging for the author or artist.

Important!! Show support to other participants by liking, reblogging, AND commenting. But most of all, HAVE FUN!!! This is meant to be a lay-back event to show love for our favorite characters.
