BNHA Dragon Pageant Au
Tumblr media
Just wanted to draw dragons, also im trying to spread the dragons are puppies agenda. Also i imagined this au to be rather fluffy :D
So in this world people and dragons coexsist peacefully. That being said people tend to favor dragons that are more colorful and bright that can fly long distances while more muted/duller color dragons with disabilities are seen as very unattractive. Katsuki being raised by Mitsuki has a good eye for dragons and collects the most colorful beautiful ones and often puts them in dragon beauty pageants lmao Katsuki's childhood friend, izuku, generally just loves dragons and hopes to become a dragon veterinarian! So imagine his surprise one day when his best friend kacchan comes barreling in carrying 4 eggs he found when he fell into the river lmao and says he needs "useless deku to not be useless and help him hatch these dragons" cause he claims they will "be the most beautiful fucking dragons youve ever fucking seen and my old hag will finally start taking me seriously after she sees me win the pageant with these suckers" And so they hatch the dragons together and while Izuku learns more about the pageant scene due to Katsuki, he realizes how sad the dragon bias and discrimination is. So when he finds brown, dull color dragon Uraraka with her cute lil face, Izuku makes it his goal to also win the pageant with his "unattractive" dragons to prove a point. But of course Katsuki thinks Deku's new goal is a direct challenge to him and his precious dragons and that deku looks down on Katsuki's dragons as if he thinks his dull dragon can win which causes a tear in their friendship and their rivalry begins. Throughout the story, Izuku saves Tenya when he is being poached by dragon slayer Stain and also befriends the beautiful, but dangerous Shoto after he finds him running away from his abuser who bred him through illegal breeding markets.
I like to think the AU ends with Katsuki and Izuku showing off thier dragons at the pageant but then Izuku realizes that pageants are dumb and he doesnt want anyone to judge his poor dragons for things they cant control, not to mention he hates that his friendship with Kacchan was ruined over something so stupid, and so he forfeits the pageant. Izuku honestly just really wants his best friend back. Which means Katsuki ends up winning.... but of course KACCHAN IS STILL UNHAPPY with his victory. Much like in the beginning, Katsuki barrels into izuku's room, this time the eggs are now lil adorable dragons, and he yells at Deku for "giving him that pity victory and not giving the middle finger to all of those discriminatory dragon assholes" Izuku explains everything and they talk it out before eventually becoming friends again (in the bg their dragons are shaking their heads at how stupid their owners are and how they had to sit front seats to the shitshow that is their friendship lmao)
In the end, they say fuck the pageant and izuku runs his vet dragon clinic and katsuki runs an dragon adoption center/dragon egg daycare. He makes sure to beat up anyone who doesnt meet his standards for adoption and gives any injured abused dragon he finds to izuku to take care of. The End (*^▽^*)
SIDE STORY (why izuku is shoto's favorite):
Endeavor: OI OI OI IS THAT MY RUNAWAY!! SHOOOTO!!!!
Izuku: ...no? (literally has Shoto sitting on his hair hissing at Endeavor)
Endeavor: You've stolen my DRAGON??!
Izuku: Dragon? :)
Endeavor: YES! THATS MY DRAGON!!?! >:0
Izuku: DRAGON DEEZ NUTS ACROSS YOUR FACE >:D
Endeavor is so utterly humiliated and in order to save himself from this migraine inducing boy, he simply lets him go. Shoto is pleased by this victory.

i have decided i am now going to blow up your inbox bc i csn i’m sorry codi focnnf
b u t!! anyway i’m going to rambling abt my new dad for all au [whixh was the au i sent you that ask abt]
alrighty so all might is now midoriya’s dad. that’s a thing. i like to think that inko and toshinori were high school sweethearts who broke up after graduation but met again when all might was called to recuse some hostages and inko was one of them!! anywho all might recuses her, they go on a coffee date, realize they’re still in love and start again
they get married and have izuku, who keeps inko’s maiden name [midoriya is now inko’s maiden name bc i do what i want]. he’s the cutest baby who has inko’s green hair, but has one blue and one green eye! [these are /important/] inko and all might talk abt maybe giving izuku all for one when he’s older, but they decide against it bc they don’t know if he’ll have a quirk or not
spoiler!! bitch baby has a quirk!! he gets a quirk that’s so much different than inko’s quirk and !!! ahhh!!! the basic explanation is that all might’s all of one genes mixed and then “corrupt” inko’s like 3 generation quirk-having genes or smth and izu has a very, very complex quirk now. it’s called astron, and astron allows him to fucking astral project into the center of the university and shit chxnc
astron works two different ways: using his blue eye he can project other people into his own personal astral plane and do whatever he wants. while the person’s physical body is still where it was, their mind is in the astral plane. if he uses his green eye, he can project himself to his astral plane and fuck around without consequences!!
[there’s an untold third ability of astron using both of his eyes, but izuku tried doing that when he first got his quirk and immediately fell into a coma for like a month? it was bad and his mind couldn’t handle the stress and dipped lol]
ANYWAY, izuku grows up with a bomb ass quirk and still has his kacchan with him thru his childhood so things are a lot different than canon? the wonder duo are little shitheads together and i love them, they wreck havoc and i love them
i have more ideas for this story but this is all i have for now, codi this is so long i’m sorry i’m blowing up ur inbox 🥺😭
Tumblr media
me opening my askbox and seeing the length of this au: holy shit
me reading the actual whole au: HOLY SHIT
AJ I LOVE THIS HIGHKEY!!! I LOVE THE IDEA OF OP DEKU W A FUCKED UP QUIRK JUST TERRIFYING EVERYONE HE COMES ACROSS!!!! heterochromia is SO so good as a character design element and i LOVE THE WAY THIS IS IMPLEMENTED YELLS. I WANNA DRAW THIS SO BAD!!! THIS LOOKS SO COOL
(serious writing/plot below - blood and vomit mention)
oh god and now im imagining deku like. being this extremely feral and annoying lil shit whos extremely powerful and now bakugous got someone on his level so hes a lot more humble as hes growing up but also him and deku are the?? BESTEST OF FRIENDS. and i imagine when bakugou is being a little shit deku just. astral projects him out of his body for a while and apologizes to whoever kacchan yelled at LMFAO---bakugou comes back to his body and is all like “....fucks sake stop doing that”
AND THEN omfgkjfds imagine morally grey deku who does whatever he can to win?? he knew he wouldnt get into UAs hero course fair and square (all might offered him a recommendation but he declined because he wanted to get there on his own with kacchan) because robots didnt have souls he could astral project so he practices his quirks limits like YEARS prior and he tells bakugou about it but never rlly shows him but on the day of the entrance exam?
he shows up. everything goes as normal and he finishes the written exams and then moves on to the practical exam (still seperated from kacchan like in canon) and like. Every one goes dashing forward and deku doesnt really try to beat anyone. He waits until theyre all in the center engaging with robots when he walks to the center of the room.
and he sees the zero pointer in the distance.
“THE ZERO-POINTER’S HERE!” He yells and points at the gigantic mech heading their way. All at once everyone’s heads whip up to catch sight of the robot, enraptured by its sheer size and power.
As they all look to one direction, Deku makes eye contact with them and smiles.
All at once, every single participant in the area goes limp. Astron throws their souls into the astral plane with little fanfare and everyone watches in awe and annoyance as their bodies uselessly crumple to the ground from the outside. The green-haired boy is suddenly given free reigns of the arena and they seethe as one by one he deactivates or disables robots that were once under their purview.
(What some of the smarter ones notice however, is the way he seems to be leaving some stray 3 pointers untouched... almost as if he was doing the calculations in his head as he goes... on how to ensure the number one spot while others can still score points...?)
One by one however, they start struggling and reaching to reconnect with their bodies. Their gleaming bright souls bob up and down with frenzied energy and Deku feels it. He feels it like itches on his skin and goosebumps that turn into hills that dance up and down his back. He feels it like he feels his limit reaching.
Its still around 10 minutes though before he actually loses control and everyone comes back to their bodies. His quirk times out and almost like its angry, the astral plane takes his body in exchange for the dozens he kept in there. He gets sucked through and passes out while everyone else runs and destroys the remaining bots. It doesn’t matter though, because he knows he’s racked up enough points to stay on top. He lets himself rest and observes the blue-haired tall guy with engines who contemplates carrying Deku’s body to safety.
Until, he sees her.
Just under some rubble and very close to getting crushed by the Zero-Pointer’s foot, Deku spots a brown-haired young girl that he recalls has some kind of floating quirk. He sees as everyone runs past her, prioritizing their own safety instead of hers.
He makes a decision.
Quickly--recklessly, a familiar gruff voice says in his ear--he forces himself back into his body and looks around. He runs to the girl and attempts to dig her out from the rubble before she gets crushed. The robot comes ever closer.
Using the little strength and flexibility he’s learnt from years of sparring with Kacchan, Deku abandons her in favor of climbing up the broken concrete and metal to meet the robot’s visor. He knows he won’t save her by digging her out of there, but by god is he gonna let her get injured without a fight. These robots weren’t designed to kill, but they were designed to destroy.
Focus. Focus and listen to what’s around you, Izu-kun.
The world around him reduces to tunnel-vision and suddenly Deku is face to face with the Zero-Pointer. It stops, as if calculating how to discard of Deku without hurting him severely with its own strength.
Everything has life in it. You only need to focus and look for it.
Izuku Midoriya looks at the robot.
In a whirlwind of blue and green, he reaches inside of himself and searches for life. Cold steel and hard-wired code meet his gaze and he plunges even deeper.
Focus.
Then all at once, everything in his visions snaps into sudden clarity, like he’s never seen before. He feels everything. Sees Everything. Smells, tastes, hears--and he hears how the metal beneath him bends and groans. He feels how it winces and shudders. He sees it as it opens its maw and its visor bends in a facsimile of eyes, pleading him as if asking how?
The robot beneath him comes to life and stumbles back.
Quickly, he scrambles to the nearest ledge which happens to be a broken support beam. Distantly, he thinks he feels his arm being sliced open on the edge of it and the warmth of blood streaming down his side as he nearly falls.
“HEY! YOU WITH THE ENGINES!” He hoarsely screams to the still remaining, slack-jawed contestants. “I CAN’T KEEP THE ZERO POINTER DOWN FOR LONG! GO HELP THE GIRL AND TAKE HER TO SAFETY NOW!”
With a sudden burst of energy, the fellow participants start taking others out from the rubble while the blue-haired boy helps the brunette he was protecting earlier. As he watches them clear the rubble to drag her out, he feels a pang.
Who am I? a lost voice calls out. It’s raspy and almost-robotic sounding and only he can hear it. Where am I? What am I?
And Deku’s vision flickers.
In and out, he sees flashes through eyes that aren’t his. He hears voices that are simultaneously faraway and way too close for comfort. The world tugs at the sides of his perspective and a strain is pulling at the back of his head tearing his brain to shreds. He doesn’t know what he’s focusing or straining on, except that its working and keeping the zero-pointer down.
He grits his teeth. “Hurry the hell up! i can’t do this any longer--”
Bursts of pain appear behind his mismatched eyes and he wants to scream so bad and if he were looking any clearer he’d see the way that the zero-pointer thrashes on the ground in time with the pounding on his skull. Bile crawls up the back of his throat and Deku screams.
“SHE’S CLEAR! YOU CAN LET GO NOW, MIDORIYA-SAN.”
Izuku lets go and his vision goes black.

"Just in time, Midoriya," Mr. Aizawa droned, looking up from his roll call list.
Izuku, his face beet red as everyone's eyes rested on him, plunked down in the seat closest to him. Imagine being late for detention. He was already enough of a failure as it was...
"Bakugo, Katsuki."
Izuku heard a growl from the back of the room, and shivers went up his spine.
"I'll take that as a 'here'. Midoriya, Izuku."
"Here," Izuku whispered.
"Uraraka, Ochaco."
"Here."
Oh. There was a girl sitting next to Izuku! Or, well, Izuku sat next to her. Izuku peeked out from under his curly green-black hair, and he only caught a glimpse of auburn hair before his attention was brought back to the front.
"Now, I don't really care what you do for an hour. Just don't leave the room and don't disturb me."
Izuku and the rest of the students looked on in curiosity as Mr. Aizawa brought out a sleep mask and tipped his chair back, planting his crossed ankles on the desk.
Izuku blinked for a solid five seconds, trying to make sense of what he was seeing, before giving up and grabbing his homework out of his bag. Might as well get started on this mountain of homework...
He tried to focus on his Calculus - he really did, but he could feel Kacchan's eyes on him from the back of the room. To calm down, he started doodling on the side of his assignment, stark black lines against his messy scrawl. He directed his thoughts to making the lines smooth and the strokes confident, even though he himself was not. Still though, his hands were trembling, and his pencil slipped in his sweaty grip. It rolled onto the floor next to the girl's foot, and he paused for a moment, fear making his mind irrational and paralyzed. The girl - whose name was Ochaco, Izuku remembered distantly - swooped down and picked up the pencil casually, leaning over to give it to him.
"Oooh, is that All Might?" she asked in a hushed voice. Izuku flinched before nodding as his left hand went to the back of his neck nervously. He glanced at Ochaco quickly, taking her in. Her caramel brown eyes were wide with interest and framed with dark lashes, and her thin lips were pulled into a small but genuine smile. She had rosy cheeks that didn't look like makeup, and her choppy bangs suggested a self-done job. She had a small silver hoop through the left side of her nose and metal piercings going up her right ear that glinted in the sunlight from the far windows. Her leather jacket was worn through at the elbows, cuffs, and collar, and her fishnet-and-combat-boot combo made Izuku mentally flush.
Oh no. She's cute. And kind of... intimidating?
His eyes trailed down to the hand that was still offering his pencil. Her hands were small and delicate-looking, with small silvery scars running across the top. Her fingertips were scarred pink.
Izuku gulped quietly and looked back at Ochaco's face, hoping she didn't notice him blatantly staring at her. She was looking at him, too, an unrecognizable look on her face, (Did she notice the scars on his arm? She had to have noticed his bruised eye...) but it didn't make Izuku feel threatened or self-conscious like it normally would have. Instead, he felt a strange kinship to this girl with the scarred hands. He slowly reached out and tugged his pencil out of her grip, giving her a small smile.
"T-thanks."
She blinked dazedly before smiling brightly, her eyes resting on his. Izuku's stomach swooped - that grin was directed at him?
"No problem. But yeah, that drawing is really good! So you're an artist?"
"Oh, I mean, I wouldn't say that," he chuckled nervously. He remembered that she recognized his drawing, though, and latched onto that. "Y-you know who All Might is?"
"Yeah, my friends and I play his video games! They're really fun - especially the one where he goes into space?" Her eyes lit up, and Izuku found himself smiling along with her, feeling more comfortable by the second.
"Yeah, that one has great graphics. I love his teammates' powers, too! Thirteen's Black Hole is so powerful!" Izuku exclaimed, tapping his eraser on the desk mindlessly.
"Oh my gosh, Thirteen is my favorite!" she declared, still keeping her voice low while pressing her hands to her chest passionately. "I just know she would beat even All Might in a fight."
"No way," Izuku snickered quietly. "That's why he is called All Might. He is 'all mighty'."
He had no idea where this bravery was coming from to tease this enigma of a girl, but seeing the competitive spark in her eyes was worth it.
"All he does is punch stuff and tackle things with brute force. Thirteen, while a more defensive hero, takes more strategy to play. Her intelligence would beat out his brawn any day. And besides, ya can't out-punch somethin' that is pullin' ya inwards!" Ochaco finished excitedly, her tongue sticking out.
Oh gods, did an accent come out during that last bit? So cute.
Izuku's face took on a look of determination - sure, this girl might be attractive, but he had to defend his favorite hero All Might!
"See, now that's where you're wrong. All Might doesn't just 'punch stuff', he can use his moves to cause the air to move around him. This can be done in precise kicks or powerful punches. When playing him, you have to use his power in different percentages to make sure not to harm any bystanders and cause the least amount of damage to the environment. He is always calculating. Also, if you noticed, every time he goes into battle, he says his catchphrase, 'I am here!' He recognizes how important it is to be a symbol of hope for the people. I recognize this is a game and not reality, but this was done on purpose. All Might knows what he is doing. I think - "
Ochaco cut him off with laughter, and Izuku froze, feeling shame wash over him. Ah, he did it again. He got weird and did a mutter-storm.  She probably thought he was a total loser. He felt his head droop, and he whispered out, "S-sorry."
Her giggles abruptly stopped, and he felt her eyes on him for a second before she leaned closer over the aisle and spoke in a low, soothing voice. "Hey, no, I'm the one who's sorry. I was just laughing because you really know your stuff, and you were talking so fast, and it just really surprised me!" She smiled sadly and looked like she was about to touch his arm but instead fiddled with her long side bangs. "It wasn't my intention to make you feel bad for liking something."
She was apologizing to him, the massive screw-up?
Embarrassingly, Izuku felt his eyes swell with tears, and he turned away, wiping them back quickly. He swiveled back to face her and gave her a wobbly smile. "T-thanks," he said gratefully, his voice quiet.
She smiled again, this time a soft one, before turning back to his math homework. "Hah, isn't this for Mr. Ecto's class?"
"Y-yeah. Probably will need to redo it now."
"I always have the worst time in that class," she grumbled, her lips going into a slight pout, and Izuku felt his cheeks getting pink.
"What's wrong? Maybe I could... help?" Izuku asked, wincing at the end. He didn't want to sound presumptuous, but math was his best subject...
She lit up again. "Really? That'd be great. I'd been going to Momo for help, but she's been nagging me lately. Something about her not wanting to condone me 'breaking rules'. She's a good pal, but it's been annoying to say the least," Ochaco blew some hair out of her face while giving Izuku a silly smile.
"B-breaking rules?" Izuku asked curiously, before realizing that might've been rude and going red.
"Yeah. I mean, how'd ya think I ended up here?" Ochaco giggled, pulling out her math homework and laying it out on her desk. She scooted her desk closer to him and pointed with her own mechanical pencil at a few circled problems.
"These are the ones that are just killing me."
"Okay, let's see what we can do," Izuku cracked his knuckles, feeling more in his element, and leaned over to start reading the problems.
The hour passed by quickly, with Izuku and Ochaco muttering and quietly discussing Calculus. As Mr. Aizawa's phone alarm went off, the two were packing away their books and discussing the current All Might and Nighteye comics.
"To be honest, I think Nighteye is going to confess his love for All Might," Ochaco confided, making Izuku choke on a laugh.
"E-EHH?"
Before Ochaco could respond, Mr. Aizawa stood up and threaded a hand through his long, dark hair, yawning. "Alright kids, good job at keeping it down and civil. Some of you, I'll see tomorrow, like usual." He looked pointedly at Ochaco, and she smirked, waving her scarred fingers.
Geez, what did she do to get so much detention?
Izuku was so focused on this exchange that he didn't notice someone coming up behind him until it was too late.
"You're in my way, nerd," Katsuki growled, his eyes flashing dangerously.
"Ah, sorry, Kacchan," Izuku whimpered, losing all confidence and shrinking into himself as he practically scuttled out of the way of the blonde boy. He felt Ochaco's gaze on him and felt ashamed, but, well, it was better for her to see him for who he truly was before he got too attached, anyways.
"Why not just go around him?"
Izuku's eyes widened, and he glanced at Ochaco in horror.
"You got something to say?" Katsuki turned his attention to the girl, who was staring at him like he was something she stepped in with her boot.
"You heard me. There are plenty of other ways to get to the door. You actually had to go out of your way to go up the aisle to pass by his desk," Ochaco explained, all previous warmth in her voice gone.
Katsuki's left eye twitched for a second, before he rushed over to her and stood in her space, looming over her. She met his gaze fearlessly.
"I'd be careful what I'd say, Round Face."
"Oh no, I'm so scared of a stereotypical guy with anger issues," Ochaco droned, her brown gaze almost looking bored. As Katsuki seethed, she scoffed. "See, you aren't going to do anything." She looked at Izuku, her eyes softening slightly. "Let's go."
Startled that she wanted to go anywhere with him and eager to get out of the tension, he hurriedly grabbed his backpack and scrambled to get out the door.
"Wait, just a minute, Deku," Katsuki grabbed at Izuku's shoulder, his grip making Izuku wince.
"You might be able to hide behind Uraraka right now, but just know there's nothing you can do to stop me from kicking your ass the next time you are alone," Katsuki threatened, his voice low and truly angry.
"Alright, that's enough. Geez, kids these days are so dramatic," Mr. Aizawa said tiredly, pinching the area between his eyes. "Just go home, all of you, and for god's sake just leave each other alone."
Izuku wanted to scream out that it wasn't just dramatics, but pure fear kept his mouth shut as he robotically walked to the door. Katsuki grinned and ran a finger across his throat before walking in the opposite direction down the hallway. Ochaco grabbed his arm and tugged him down the hallway, releasing him after a moment. They walked in silence for a few seconds, reaching the outdoors before she cleared her throat.
"So, uh... that guy has some issues," she noted, kicking a pebble in the walkway.
Izuku could only shrug, his ears burning. At her questioning look, he looked away before explaining, "Kacchan is... complicated."
"Hah, that's a word for it..." she muttered. They let silence fill the space between them again.
"So, your name is Deku?"
"E-eh? N-no." Izuku looked at his feet, surprised he could feel even more shame than he was already feeling. "Deku is what Kacchan calls me to make fun of me. 'Defenseless Izuku.'"
"Oh," Ochaco said, and she almost sounded disappointed. "It just sounded like a nice name for you. Kind of like 'I can do it!', ya know?"
"O-oh." His face flushed pink. "D-Deku it is!"
"I can do it", huh?
"D'ya think he was really serious about beating ya up?" Ochaco's voice was light, but her face was serious.
Izuku laughed bitterly. "How do you think I got this?" He gestured at the shiner surrounding his left eye. "That's why I was in detention, after all."
Ochaco nodded grimly, saying nothing. Izuku wondered vaguely how long she was going to walk with him.
"Tell ya what. Let's make a deal. You help me with my math, and I'll teach ya how to fight!" Ochaco's hands where balled into fists, and her eyes were bright.
At this, Izuku looked up at her in shock. "EH?"
"Yeah! Come on. Notice how Katsuki didn't want to mess with me? It's because he knows I can hold my own. I'll teach you how to defend yourself, although it might not be street legal," she teased, "and you can teach me the difference between differentials and integrals!"
Izuku stared at her wordlessly. This tiny girl, who admittedly dressed like a punk rocker but was as bubbly and friendly as the day was long, knew how to fight - and in ways that weren't street legal???
She nudged him playfully with her black bookbag. The various pins on it jingled and clicked against each other. "So, whaddya say?"
He stopped walking to actually ponder her proposition. When he was honest with himself, he recognized that he couldn't live like this anymore. Dodging Katsuki day in and day out, being scared of even breathing the wrong way, lying to his mother and friends about being okay, hiding his scars underneath sweltering hoodies - it was exhausting. He didn't even know who he was anymore, besides a timid artist with a slight All Might video game obsession.
He wanted more. He now realized he might have that opportunity, or a chance at one, thanks to Ochaco's offer.
He looked up and met her slightly nervous gaze with a determined grin. "Let's do it."

Wedding
“Uraraka-san?”
No answer. Midoriya blinked a little as he looked over at his friend, draped all in red, looking entirely too beautiful to be anyone’s bridesmaid. Part of him wanted to tell her that now that she and Kacchan weren’t together anymore (and honestly, he thought some of the awful things Kacchan had said had been entirely uncalled for). Part of him also wanted to Detroit Smash Kacchan’s face in for hurting her but...
She didn’t seem all that hurt.
It was mutual, she had said to him when they had arrived at the venue to change and he had asked about it, and Katsuki was just making it seem bigger than it was to keep the press from bothering me while I adjust to my new job.
Midoriya believed it was only a half-truth because he had seen how desperately in love both of them had seemed. He wondered how fabricated Kacchan’s words actually were.
But Ochako knew it was a half-truth. Only because she and Bakugou hadn’t split at all. In fact, quite the opposite. But it isn't in good taste to talk about your on-a-whim marriage at someone else’s wedding. Especially when you’re pretending to be broken up for the sake of safety and employment.
Which was why she wasn’t responding to ‘Uraraka-san’ at the present moment.
“Bakugou-san.” He was grinning widely, as if he’d just defeated a villain.
Ochako smirked over at him. “Would you stop that?”
“No.”
“You’re way too excited about this.”
“Yeah, well, you’ve been sleeping naked in my bed for several months now. And?”
Ochako rolled her eyes. “Katsuki.”
“Bakugou-san.”
“Shut up! We’re going to be late. And I need to be there before you--we can’t just show up together. People will start to talk...” Ochako murmured, smiling over at her husband as she checked her purse and makeup bag to make sure she had everything. “Why are you doing that, anyway? Isn’t it weird for you to say your own name to me like that?”
Bakugou sat up from his place on their bed, and watched her continue to pack what she’d need to get ready for the wedding, glancing at the garment bag hanging next to her vanity--which he had not wanted in his room at first, until he realized....well, it was her room now, too. “It’s your name, too. And no one else is going to call you by it for a long-ass time. I want to make sure you don’t forget--”
Her lips found his, shutting him up faster than he could growl out the next words. “I would never forget. Not you. Not us.” She smiled, warmly, brightly, their foreheads pressed together. “I like being Bakugou-san.”
He smirked. “Good,” he murmured, and then grabbed her waist, his smirk widening into a suggestive grin. “Now...how late are you?”
“Uraraka-san?”
Ochako realized, finally, that she was being spoken to, and looked up from the small bouquet of flowers she was holding, her brown eyes meeting Midoriya’s green ones. “Yes, Deku-kun?”
Midoriya chuckled and scratched at the back of his neck. “You know I’m your escort, right?”
“Oh.”
“I don’t think Todoroki-kun did it to be disrespectful,” Midoriya offered, scratching at his cheek, thoughtfully. “He probably figured you and Kacchan would still be--” “Katsuki knew he wasn't in the wedding,” Ochako replied with a nod. “He and Todoroki-san are not close like that. There’s a reason he chose you and Iida-kun. Katsuki--he isn’t okay with it, but it is what it is.”
“Well, you two aren’t together anymore, so I suppose it doesn’t really matter...” Midoriya said, uncertainly. “You do look really beautiful, Uraraka-san.”
Ochako tensed, and then glanced up at her friend, a small blush on her face. She should at least tell him she was still in love with Bakugou, since she couldn’t offer him the whole truth. But if even that got out, her husband could be in danger and it would be her fault. How could she avoid Midoriya’s advances now? Both she and Bakugou knew after that initial conversation with him that there was a chance the One-For-All hero was still in love with her. But he had relinquished his emotional ties to her for the sake of their happiness--which was a very Midoriya thing to do. But now, there was no reason for him to hold back as far as he was concerned.
Except for her. “Deku-kun, I--thank you. That’s very flattering.” She wasn’t going to say anything yet. Midoriya was also just a very nice person who might have just been giving her a compliment.
They both heard the music starting, and they glanced over their shoulders. Jirou and Iida were behind them, dressed the same--red dress and black tuxedo, red and white flower bouquets. Simple, elegant. Very Todoroki and Yaomomo.
Ochako slid her arm through Midoriya’s and they began to make their way down the aisle toward the front, where Todoroki, usually entirely composed and level-headed, looked like he was doing all he could to stay that way while trying not to start a fire or a blizzard inside the venue.
Ochako smiled a little bit to herself. Yaomomo deserved this--a man who was so head over heels for her that he couldn’t keep his sanity completely in check when it came to her happiness.
She knew a thing or two about that.
Her eyes scanned the seated guests quickly, and soon, she found Bakugou seated with the rest of their former classmates, dressed in the black button-down, a red waistcoat vest and no tie, his shirt slightly unbuttoned. She noticed the twine necklace hanging under his shirt and swallowed a little. She wasn’t wearing hers because the dress had no straps and she didn’t want to draw attention to it. But Bakugou was nothing if not stubborn, even in the face of this big secret they were now trying to keep.
His eyes met hers briefly, and then flared when he saw how close she and Midoriya were. She shot him a gentle expression to calm him, and then let her eyes slide quickly downward, motioning to the necklace.
Rolling his eyes, Bakugou buttoned his shirt the rest of he way up and cleared his throat, and Kirishima, who sat between the blonde, and his pink haired girlfriend, glanced at him. “Everything okay?”
Bakugou snorted. “Deku.”
Kirishima looked over at the wedding party, and winced on Bakugou’s behalf when he saw Uraraka and Midoriya were paired off. “Ooh, that has to be rough,” he whispered. “You okay, man?”
Pop, pop, pop.
Bakugou grit his teeth behind his lips, and let a few sparks snap on his palm, before squeezing it into a fist when Todoroki flashed him a cold, threatening gaze. Popping firework hands weren’t exactly quiet.
“Hey, at least you totally called that,” Kirishima replied, referring to the interview Bakugou had given as Ground Zero several months prior when the whole ruse about their break-up had begun. No one else knew they had been living together, married, for nearly half a year, now. In fact, Bakugou’s birthday had even come and gone again, and he had to celebrate it two separate times just so he could spend it at home with his wife while still keeping up the appearance they weren’t together.
It was frustrating. And now to add Deku to the equation, with his hand on his wife’s arm, clearly looking at her as if waiting for the opportunity to capitalize on the fact that she was “single” made him want to leap out of his chair and blow him away in one shot, IcyHot be damned.
But.
Ochako was a good counter for his moodiness, and he knew she would float his ass all the way to the moon if he in some way ruined her friend’s wedding. So he kept his popping fist closed, and grit his teeth even harder, and kept his mouth shut.
When the wedding party was done making their way to the front, the music stopped, and then changed. Everyone stood, and turned their eyes toward the back again as Yaoyorozu Momo emerged, draped in a white A-line dress with a train that fluttered out of the door behind her, and a veil that was just as long. The dress was strapless like the bridesmaid dresses, with red lace applique on the bodice that traveled halfway down the hip of the skirt.
Ochako couldn’t help but think she looked like Todoroki’s Quirk when he used both sides at the same time. And knowing Yaomomo ,that was the intention. Not to mention, red was the color for traditional Japanese weddings, and white for...most of the rest of the world. It didn’t surprise her Yaomomo would try to embody all of that in a dress that Ochako was sure she created herself.
And when she looked over at Todoroki, she smiled to herself. His entire attention was on his fiancÊe, his mouth open slightly, a little puff of cold air escaping, and a little ice beginning to form under his right shoe. This was the affect Yaomomo had on him.
Her own eyes slid to Bakugou again, who, like the rest of the hall, was watching Yaoyorozu as she came down the aisle. But he wasn’t thinking about Yaoyorozu. He was imagining Ochako in a dress like that, with a smile like that, all eyes on her.
One day, he’d give her that wedding. One day.
When Yaoyorozu made it to the front, she smiled, shyly, at Todoroki, as her father offered her hand to her future husband. “Shoto.”
“No nesting dolls?” he asked with a small, affectionate smirk.
“Like you’re one to talk,” she said, gesturing to the little sheet of ice under his right foot.
He chuckled and took her hands. “You look incredible. Your hair is down.”
“You like it down,” she replied, her eyes alight with emotion.
“Shall we?” the officiator offered, and Todoroki looked out at everyone as they sat down. He saw his siblings offering small thumbs up, and his mother smiling warmly, and he was glad she was there to see it. His father was silent, stoic, but he gave a small nod.
It was enough. Todoroki allowed the officiator to continue, and with a warm smile of his own, the warmest he could ever remember having, he married Yaoyorozu Momo, the woman who loved him, and supported him unconditionally.
///////
The reception was held in the same large hall as their engagement had been, in the Todoroki family home, as the whole event was to remain private, as Todoroki and Momo usually liked it. There were, of course, more people there. Most of the heroes from their respective agencies had attended, as well as most of their former UA teachers. And their classmates and closest friends.
Ochako sat at the wedding party table, smiling at the newlywed Todorokis as they danced their first dance, cut their cake, and mingled. Her eyes kept wandering to Bakugou, sitting at Kirishima’s table with Ahsido, Kaminari, Tsu-chan and Tokoyami.
Midoriya, ever observant, began to notice, and, of course, his instinct was that she was dwelling on emotions from a year ago. Feelings for Bakugou that still lingered. Maybe he could distract her.
“Do you want to dance, Uraraka-san?” he asked, and Ochako looked up at him.
“Deku-kun--”
Midoriya was smiling, kindly, and Ochako sighed to herself. “Deku-kun, I hope you’re not thinking that you and I--”
“No. You just looked sad.” He tilted his head a little and held out his hand. “I just wanted to distract you.”
Ochako glanced over at Bakugou one final time, before she nodded. “Sure. Okay.” She smiled at her friend and took his hand. Other couples were dancing already, including Todoroki and Momo off and on, in between mingling. Midoriya pulled her out to the floor, placing a hand on her hip, and holding the other in his own.
They swayed for a moment, and then Midoriya asked: “Tell me what really happened with Kacchan.”
Ochako’s eyes widened, and she looked down at their feet as they moved, shaking her head. “Deku-kun, that isn’t your business. I told you it was mutual and we’re still friends.”
“Do you still love him?”
Yes. “No.”
“Does he still love you?”
More than anything. “I don’t know.”
“Then, why can’t you and I try again?”
Ochako felt her heart start to beat a mile a minute, and her eyes screeched up from their shoes to his face. He looked so innocent and sincere, like he always did. He was genuinely so good-hearted, and she hated to break that good heart in any way. How could she tell him a lie? But how could she tell him the truth when she knew he was the League’s biggest target.
“Because I don’t feel that way about you either, Deku-kun,” she said with finality, her heart still racing. It was the truth, but not the entire truth, and it killed her to lie to her best friend. “I’m sorry.”
There was a pregnant silence between them as they swayed, and Midoriya was at a loss for words. Like his childhood friend, it was actually very unlike him to have nothing to contribute, and Ochako squeezing his shoulder with the hand that rested there.
“I still care so much for you as a friend, Deku-kun,” she whispered. “Please.”
Midoriya finally tilted his eyes toward her face, and smiled, gently. “Of course, Uraraka-san. We’ll always be friends.”
The song ended, and he stepped back from her, taking her hand, and pressing a long, lingering kiss there, the gesture innocent and kind, but full of the emotion she couldn’t return. She saw a jerk of movement out of the corner of her eye, but Bakugou must’ve seen something in her expression that stopped him from making a scene, and with that, Midoriya turned and walked back to their table.
Ochako sighed, her heart heavy. She would never wish to feel differently about her husband, but she did wish she could mend Midoriya’s broken heart somehow. To say something that could make it better.
She knew she couldn’t. Especially right now, while she and Bakugou were hiding everything pertaining to them.
With a small sigh, she trailed behind Midoriya, glancing at Aizawa-sensei, who was, in effect, the only other person who knew, at the very least, that she and Bakugou were still involved. He gave her a short nod, and then turned his attention back to the newlyweds, taking a sip from a wine glass.
Ochako sat back down next to Midoriya, sad in her own right, and then her gaze was pulled to Yaomomo when she heard her laughing, and found Todoroki squeezing her close, his forehead and nose pressed into her hair, peppering hot-cold kisses over her skin. Immediately, Ochako’s demeanor changed, and she smiled.
Right now wasn’t the time to be worried about her own what-ifs and maybes. It wasn’t the time to sulk over broken hearts or secrets. This day was for Todoroki and Yaomomo.
She touched Midoriya’s arm, and pointed to them, and immediately, he also brightened slightly, and smiled from the corner of his face at his best friend. He knew what she was doing. And she was right. The time for their situation was later. Both understood that this time was for their newlywed friends.
You deserve it, you guys.
And that was that.

The Gamer Hero, Deku Chapter 9
A/N: Okay, thanks to everyone who contributed to that explosion of suggestions. Was nice. A few things:
Remzal Von Enili: That is an interesting idea and I wish I could find a way to use it.
ImSoBored246: I don't think I'm going to go that extreme, but thanks for the suggestion.
Plasma Dragon 312: That's a cool skill. I already had an idea for PhysEnd's upgrade, so unfortunately that's probably not going to be it, but I appreciate you suggesting a skill and am going to try to find a way to include it somehow.
RavenJ: Thanks for telling me that. WAIT DANGIT! At the very least, you can't tell me his hair isn't antigravity...
To everyone who suggested a fire-type PokĂŠmon for Izuku: Thank you! You all had great ideas and I honestly wish I could pick them all, buuuut there would be some logistic problems with that... The winning suggestion, however, goes to a guest because I liked the PokĂŠmon and logic behind it used and then grew too attached to my design to change my mind. Not gonna say what it is here, though.
And considering how well that worked out, I'd also appreciate any title suggestions for as-of-yet untitled characters and also skill suggestions. Because I highly appreciate any time someone gives me an excuse to do less work, lol.
xoxoxo
Yuuei was... surprisingly mundane. I don't know what I was expecting, but after the rush of being taught by pro heroes wore off, it was actually boring. At least it was good for leveling Enlightenment. Though Enlightenment actually leveled rather slowly for a level one skill, probably because it was a prestige skill. I was really excited to see what getting that up would do.
Of course, there was one class that I didn't want to miss one second of. Hero Basic Training.
"I AM HERE!" All Might shouted as he burst through the door in his silver age costume, causing a wave of excitement to run through the class. "Today will be your first class with me, All Might! In this class, you will learn what you will need to defeat villains and save lives! But before we begin!" He pointed at some panels on the wall that Observe told me held our hero costumes behind them! On cue, they slowly came out from the wall. "I'm not the only one who's going to be in costume today! Suit up in your new outfits and meet me at training ground beta!
xoxoxo
All Might gave his trademark brilliant smile as he watched us slow-walk through the entrance to training ground beta, somehow in perfect sync. "They say clothes make the pros, class, and you are no exception!" Everyone looked so cool in their costumes!
"Hey, Deku!" Uraraka said as she walked over to me. She had a black-and-pink bodysuit that looked like a futuristic space suit. "I love your costume! It's supposed to be like an RPG character, right?"
"Yeah that was the idea," I said. At first, I'd wanted a jumpsuit with horns that looked like All Might's hair, but when I showed it to Kacchan he hit me so hard I leveled up Physical Endurance (though to be fair I was almost to the next level at the time) and told me that it would be too obvious and it'd make me look like a rabbit.
Upon threat of further violence, I agreed to change my outfit to something a little more original, and decided to just go with the RPG theme that my Quirk gave me. I had a green waistcoat over a long-sleeved white shirt, dark green pants, my sweet red shoes, white gloves, a small utility belt that I suppose was superfluous with my inventory but still looked cool, and a green hooded cloak that I had include rabbit ears as a joke to Kacchan at first, then decided I liked it and kept it. It all had light armor that didn't mess with the look or harm my mobility but still added slightly to my defenses. The most surprising part, though, was that my request for a sword so I didn't have to waste mana on Bound Blade was accepted. Sure, I had spells that worked well with a sword, but I could also make swords and I didn't expect them to let me have a sword on my first year. "I think yours looks nice too." I also expected that without Gamer's Mind I would have been very flustered...
Ururaka sighed. "I wish I'd been more specific with my costume, this is a little embarrassing..."
"Look at it this way; at least you're not Ponytail or Invisible," Kacchan said with an amused grin. His costume was pretty cool, but I still think those gauntlets looked a little too bulky, even after he had them reduced a bit and include switchable sweat cartridges at my suggestion. I saw he also had the water bottle I'd suggested to keep hydrated so he could sweat more. "One of them's half naked and the other's only wearing gloves and shoes."
"In my defense, I need bare skin for my Quirk, Creation," Yaoyorozu stated.
"Dude, I'm naked, like, all the time when I'm at home," Hagakure told Kacchan. I noticed that her title was transparent. Not fully invisible, but harder to see than it used to be. I shrugged it off as my Quirk making it harder for me to see her title because she was supposed to be harder to see. "And I got points in the entrance exam by sneaking around buck naked and messing around with the robots' innards and stuff."
Mineta gave a thumbs-up. "Naked ladies..." He drooled... Ugh.
"Nobody asked you, Dick-for-brains!" Kacchan shouted at him.
"Now that you're all in costume, we're going to begin with combat training!" All Might told us. "Unlike the entrance exam, where you fought robots outside, today you'll all be fighting each other indoors! Now, can anyone tell me why it is important to know how to fight indoors?"
Almost immediately, Iida's hand shot up. "While it is true that most confrontations between heroes and villains happen outdoors, the vast majority of all fights between heroes and villains are in fact inside!" He was wearing really cool white armor that reminded me of Ingenium and my Observe told me was more to reduce wind resistance than defend from attacks.
"Exactly, young Iida! And so for your training exercise today, you will be divided into teams of two! Those teams will then be pitted against each other, one hero team against one villain team! The villains will be hiding a fake bomb somewhere in the building and it will be the heroes' job to find it! The heroes will win if they capture both villains or touch the bomb! On the other hand, the villains win if they capture the heroes or survive to the end of the time limit! And try not to hurt each other too hard!" Then he pulled out a cardboard box. "And the teams will be decided by drawing lots!"
"Why lots?" Iida asked.
"Pros can't always choose who they're working with, so maybe it's to represent that?" I offered.
"Exactly, young Midoriya! Now, let's see who the teams are!"
xoxoxo
In a freak twist of fate that further cemented my decision to no longer grind LUC because it's not that worth it, Uraraka and I, in team A, were put against Kacchan and Iida in team D. Kacchan and Iida as the villain team were given five minutes to get set up, and we were allowed to plan outside while they were in there. I sighed. "What's wrong, Midoriya?" Uraraka asked.
"I know that this might sound a little bit like bragging, but Kacchan's really the only person in the class that I know for sure could win in a fight against me. I think Todoroki might be able to put up a decent fight, but Kacchan knows what I can do the best and his Quirk and magic combined make him a definite threat. Plus, he's the only person who might be able to counter the plan I came up with."
Uraraka grinned. "Then we're just gonna have to do our best! What's the plan?"
I nodded. "First, I'm going to summon reinforcements. Don't freak out." I summoned all of my elementals, including my new fire elemental, Blaise. He wore a light brown long-sleeved shirt with thin black horizontal lines. His black pants, black shoes, and black gloves covered up the rest of his skin below his neck. He had a mane of wild white hair with five wavy red... ponytails(?) arranged in a way that made his head the center of a five-pointed star. He also had a neck warmer/mask in the same shade of white as his hair that was pulled up over his nose. What little skin on his face that was visible was pitch-black, and his scleraless eyes glowed bright blue. He was probably the least human-looking elemental I had.
"Wow, what kind of spell is this?" Uraraka asked as she crouched down a bit to look at Dune. Thankfully, I'd managed to get Dune to switch from a gun to some sort of military-type knife sheathed on her sleeve in public.
"Sup, I'm Dune," Dune introduced herself.
"Halitus," Halitus muttered.
Rayne gave her a wide, toothy grin and pulled out her sword. "I'm Rayne! Need something stabbed?"
"No, Rayne," Blaise sighed as he grabbed her hand and lowered the sword she was brandishing for her. "Name's Blaise."
Uraraka laughed, causing Rayne to give a toothy grin and blush a little. "These are my elementals," I said. "They're able to control the elements. My plan is to use a certain spell I have to sneak into the building." I bit my lip. "Unfortunately, the best way to use it is to have you act as a distraction... Is that okay?"
She nodded. "It's totally okay! I'm guessing there's technical stuff at work?"
"Yeah. The spell, Illusion Barrier, takes me and anything I include into a sort of pocket dimension, and while I know how to exclude my elementals, I don't think I can put you in and not me..."
"I said it's fine!" Uraraka beamed. "That's super cool though! So you can just disappear at will? That's gotta be so useful!"
"Start!" All Might's voice said from our earpieces.
"I'm pulling us in!" I warned. "Illusion Barrier!" Nothing seemed to change, but I knew it worked. "Right, we should probably split up so we can cover more ground. Objects, like the bomb, will still be where they were when I used the spell, but Kacchan and Iida aren't in the barrier. I saw them on my map in the northern part of the building, but the map doesn't show elevation, so we need to check each floor. Let's go!"
xoxoxo
Bakugou sighed. This was going to be a fucking nightmare. "I am loath to act on the side of the villains, even if it's just for practice, but if I must, then I shall," Ingenium Junior said.
"'Kay, first off, Glasses, you're gonna have to think like a villain sometimes if you wanna get the jump on the real villains," Bakugou said. "Second off, can you please let me think?"
"Ah, yes. Is Midoriya likely to give us trouble?"
Bakugou gave a deeper sigh. "More like he's gonna fucking appear out of thin air on top of the bomb if I don't figure out a counter to what I'm pretty sure is dimensional fuckery. Deku's got a spell called Illusion Barrier that lets him go to some other dimension of total bullshit or something where everything's the same but nobody's there."
Even through his helmet, Bakugou could see Glasses' wince. "That sounds like it'll be difficult to counter. I will defer to your lead."
"Right, first off, this." Bakugou made a fire ball, using it to summon Pyra. Like Deku's elementals, Pyra seemed to have ranked up, causing her to look older and gain a small bump on her forehead for some reason. "This is Pyra. She's made of fire. Deal with it."
"Hello," Pyra said with a small wave. "I am a fire elemental."
"If I know Deku like I know Deku, and I know Deku, then Round Face is gonna pop out of nowhere sometime soon with at least one of Deku's four elementals to distract us. By the way, Deku has four Pyras of various elements. Deal with it. While that happens, Deku'll make his way over to the bomb in his Bullshit Barrier and just pop back in on top of it. I want you and Pyra to hold off Round Face and the elementals while I try to enact Operation Punch Deku in the Fucking Face from Another Dimension, or OPDFFAD for short. That sound good?"
Glasses nodded. "It does, though I'd like to know what OPDFFAD entails, if you don't mind me asking."
"Step one is to make some kind of sensory spell that can hopefully be used to sense dimensional fuckery. I've already made a spell that I think can do that, but I have to concentrate on it and it's a bitch on my mana. Step two is to try using it on Deku while he's entering or exiting Bullshitland. Step three, try to use that data to sense where Deku is in Bullshitland and then cause my fist to enter Bullshitland with magic."
"There are a lot of ifs in that plan..." Glasses sounded a little doubtful.
Bakugou glared at him. "You got a better plan?"
"On the other hand, this is a training exercise. Why exactly do you think your spell will sense Midoriya's Illusion Barrier?"
"Because I used it on Round Face and felt something when she used her Quirk that wasn't magic, which I'm assuming was her gravity fuckery, which according to Einstein is a type of dimensional fuckery."
"I... do not believe those were his exact words, but that sounds about right."
"Then I got Deku to use his inventory and felt a similar but different feeling, which pretty much confirms it's Fuckery Detection."
"I literally cannot argue with that logic."
"Now shut up so I can detect fuckery." Bakugou leaned on the bomb so he could close his eyes and reach out with his Fuckery Detection. It needed him to spread out a thin layer of mana over the area he wanted to detect, which meant that he wouldn't be able to use it over too large of an area if he wanted to do it for a while. Thankfully, Pyra had given him the general direction of Deku's and Round Face's heat signatures, so he was able to find the two relatively easily, plus all four of Deku's elementals.
Just a few fucking moments after he got set up, All Might announced that the heroes could start, causing Deku drag them all into Bullshitland. Bakugou definitely felt... something when they fucked off, but he felt like he'd need to feel an exit to get any concrete idea. Still, he definitely felt just the lightest bit of a person-shaped spatial disturbance or whatever the fuck where the heroes were. He was able to follow one of the signals that he thought might have been Round Face until it made its way to the room with the bomb, convening with some other, shorter, human-shaped disturbances.
"Get ready," Bakugou warned, then concentrated harder on the signal. He was just in time to catch Round Face and the elementals getting dumped out of Bullshitland, which gave Bakugou a surprising degree of insight on how Illusion Barrier worked. He felt Bullshitland change when Round Face was spat out, then felt it change back a few moments later when Deku presumably recast the spell. It seemed like there was some sort of dimensional barrier or whatever the fuck that was already there, and Deku called on a part of it to use his Illusion Barrier, which Bakugou figured made sense of what Deku was muttering about when he was talking about his spell. But with that knowledge, Bakugou figured he could maybe punch Deku. He grinned as he felt Deku's signature approaching, then Blast Rushed at it when it jumped toward the bomb. "DIEEEEEEE!"
xoxoxo
The plan seemed to be going off without a hitch. Uraraka found the bomb quickly enough and called me to bring my elementals over. As they got into position, I found a spot that was out of the way enough that the villain team wouldn't notice me blink into existence for a moment, but close enough that I could get over to the bomb quickly and not keep Uraraka waiting for too long. I undid the Illusion Barrier for a moment before pulling myself and only myself back in. I'd had a lot of practice with exiting and reentering Illusion Barrier whenever I was switching between empty and skeletons, so it took less than a second. I ran toward the bomb as fast as I could, using Air Aura and Speed Up to get there faster. Within a few seconds, I saw and jumped at the fake bomb, aiming to land on top of it so I could just appear there and win. It looked like I was about to win!
Then Kacchan faded into existence in front of me, screaming, "DIEEEEEEE!" He punched me on the jaw, throwing me back. I was stunned, but more from the shock of Kacchan appeaing out of nowhere in an area I never expected him to than from pain. "You thought you could escape fighting me by fucking off to Bullshitland, Deku?" Kacchan smirked at me. "Fuck that noise."
"How?" I asked. I noted that I could see Iida and Pyra fighting my team as I got up. "Did the skill fail?"
"Fuck yeah it did!" His grin widened and he pointed at himself. "And I was the one who made it fail!"
"I'm gonna stab you!" I heard Rayne say gleefully.
I immediately turned to see Rayne brandishing her sword at Iida. "No maiming, Rayne!" I shouted frantically.
"But he tried to kick the pretty lady!" she retorted.
"No!" I said like I was telling a little kid not to draw on the walls. I turned back to Kacchan. "Sorry, didn't want Rayne to kill Iida."
He shrugged. "That's fair. Now hit me with your bes-" He cut himself off by using his gauntlets to block the flat of my sword. Kacchan being Kacchan, this only served to make him look extremely happy. After a quick test showing that trying to recast Illusion Barrier was futile, I used Air Aura to strike at him with a quick flurry of blows. Even though he wasn't as fast as me, Kacchan was fast enough that he could use both gauntlets to block my strikes. Of course, my plan wasn't to hit him with a sword. Instead, I kept his attention on my sword as I got out the capture tape that All Might gave us. I managed to make a loop with the tape with my hand and then gave Kacchan a particularly hard swipe. When he blocked, I tried to catch his hands in the loop, which would have disqualified him. Unfortunately, he incinerated the tape before it even touched him and then backhanded me, knocking me back.
I tried to jump over Kacchan, but he Blast Rushed up at me and punched at me again, though this time I Air Jumped away, landing on the side of a pillar. I pushed off of the pillar with eight percent One For All, aiming to get over Kacchan. Unfortunately, he just flew up to me, causing me to to jump up to the ceiling and kick off away from Kacchan. This time, I threw an Air Shot at him, blasting him back and me toward the bomb. For good measure, I threw a Bind at him, which I really should have done earlier. Without Kacchan to deal with, I realized that maybe I might be falling hard enough to damage the bomb, so I braked with air mana. While it didn't stop me completely, I slowed down enough that I touched down on the bomb relatively lightly. "HERO TEAM WINS!" All Might announced.
xoxoxo
After the battle ended, All Might had us meet up in the room where the rest of the class had watched our fight for a review of our fight. "Now," All Might said, "who can tell me who the MVP if this round was?"
Yaoyorozu raised her hand. "Surely it's Midoriya, right? He came up with the plan, and it would have gone without a hitch if the matchups had gone any differently."
I felt my cheeks heating up a bit. "N-no, surely the others deserve some of the credit too..."
Kacchan slapped me upside the head. "You won, idiot."
"Yeah, but you three and the elementals also..."
"I won't deny that everyone contributed, young Midoriya! However, you most certainly deserve the spot of MVP!"
My eyes watered a bit. "Thanks, everyone..."
"And unless there are any more questions, let us begin with the second match!" All Might loudly declared. I perked up at that. I was really excited to see everyone's Quirks in a fight.
xoxoxo
A/N: And now dimensional fuckery is an actual scientific term thanks to Kacchan. Because it made me laugh and that's about half of how my writing works.
And FYI, Deku's outfit is basically his outfit from the fantasy AU thing in that one outro, but with a cloak to make him more wizardy. Bakugou's outfit is mostly the same except for the changes noted. Everyone else is the same.

One Moment In A Lifetime
hhhhh okay, first BNHA fic ever, hooray! No clue what the point of this is supposed to be, though, it’s just . . . words. Just ran away from me entirely. Exploring relationship dynamics, I guess? I don’t even know. Hope you enjoy anyway!
Summary: A battle goes wrong in a way it shouldn’t have, and Shouto is not happy. What he ends up receiving, though, is something precious he never expected.
Includes hurt, regret, friendship, and platonic love and care.
(reposted)
*
Shouto usually isn’t one to lose his temper. On rare occasions, yes, when he’s been pushed way over the edge or been offered insufferable provocation or has found himself in situations he can see no clear way out of. It had turned out, amazingly, that Midoriya Izuku (face like a blushing puppy, body like a Greek statue, voice reminiscent of nothing more than a shy deer, personality of an enthusiastically fanatic nerd) was one person who could actually get him furious and throw him off balance (the determination of a piranha that’s just tasted blood, too). Apart from him, though, no single person from 1-A gets him rattled. Bakugou tries - oh, does he try - but Shouto can easily deal with such overt displays of aggressiveness.
Any tendency to back down, to waver, show weakness, has been beaten out of him long ago. Now, he looks in the mirror and is reminded of a mountain lake - still and undisturbed. That’s not a bad thing, he thinks. If nothing else, it’s certainly a safe way to go through life; unaffected by little upsets, little irritations, reserving all focus and discipline for the things that really matter.
So it comes as a surprise, to put it lightly, to find that this - this - has upset him.
“You,” he snaps, whirling around, “are a reckless idiot. What the hell did you think you were doing?”
Fire sparks in his left palm - not the best idea when facing Bakugou, but he pays that thought no mind. He won’t extinguish it. If he has to, he’ll beat Bakugou with his own element. He’d prefer to do so, in fact.
Bakugou backs down, though, looks down and away with a sullen scowl. It isn’t much of a surprise - Bakugou may be many things, but he’s not an idiot, and he never refuses to face any mistake he makes head on - but it exacerbates the itch inside Shouto, the itch to break something, burn something, create some outward manifestation of the frustration and lingering shock (not fear, he tells himself, not fear at all - and hates that he knows he’s lying) that’s burning somewhere deep in his chest.
Midoriya is crouched on the ground, wide eyes, anxious, tattered hood pushed back to hang limply down his back. “Uraraka-san, can - can you rate the pain on a scale of one to ten for me, please?”
Uraraka’s helmet is lying on the ground, pink visor smokey and splintered. One of her bracers is cracked, her belt is missing, and her boots are a maze of dirty scratches. The defect that draws the most attention, though, is the large, ragged hole in her costume on her left waist, where the skin is horribly red and blistered.
Still she smiles, as much as she is able, still she offers Bakugou no hint of resentment or anger in her clear eyes.
“M-maybe six?”
Bakugou snorts irritably, edging around Shouto with a defiant glare to crouch by Uraraka, a little away from Midoriya. He’s keeping his distance from her, Shouto realizes, aware of what he’s just done and ashamed of it, and understanding that makes him grudgingly extinguish the fire that was beginning to burn steadily in his palm.
“My explosions aren’t that weak, girl,” Bakugou growls. “They don’t burn me, but that don’t mean I ain’t aware of how much they hurt. I - “
He hesitates, glances up at Shouto, who stares back unforgivingly, and sideways at Midoriya, who still looks antsy and anxious.
“I’m sorry,” he mutters, glaring at the dirt. “I should’ve been more careful.”
“You should have looked,” Shouto says, the words clipped, “to see who exactly was in your line of fire instead of blasting away because one villain pissed you off. Both Midoriya and Uraraka were already taking care of him. Do you know what his quirk is?”
Bakugou grimaces. “No, damn you, I don’t!”
“Any object, any tool, anything remotely useful will have an effect opposite to the one intended. Since you tried to roast that guy alive when Uraraka was in the way, and she used her quirk to move him, he had the opportunity to touch her and activate his own quirk. And that means no medicine, no cooling pack, not even my ice will help with the massive second degree burn you just gave her!”
Shouto doesn’t even realize how loud his voice has become until Bakugou gets to his feet, snarling.
“I already apologized, you bastard, what the hell else do you want?! Want me to go back in time and fix it? Hah?!”
“I want you to understand exactly what you - !”
“Kacchan!”
Uraraka’s soft voice cuts through the crackling air like a knife. Both Shouto and Bakugou turn instantly, watching as Midoriya helps her struggle into a sitting position.
She smiles again, weak and painful. “It’s fine, Kacchan, it really is, I swear. I know you didn’t mean to. Thank you for apologizing. And Todoroki-kun, I appreciate your concern very much, but please don’t yell at Kacchan. It’s not -” She sucks in a breath, wincing as Midoriya’s gently probing fingers touch a particularly painful spot. She dismisses his hasty apology with a slight shake of her head, and continues, “- it’s not necessary at all.”
Shouto huffs shortly, and Bakugou jerks his head away, scowling at the ground. “Whatever. I’m going to go check that the last of the fires are out.”
Midoriya looks up at that. “Kacchan, don’t forget to check on the guy with the knife quirk! I don’t think he’ll be able to cut through the rope, I don’t think they can reach his wrists from his fingers, but just make sure - “
“Shut the fuck up, Deku, I know!” Bakugou gets to his feet, hand brushing across Uraraka’s shoulder for a brief, hesitant moment, cheeks dusted light red as he does so. “I’ll check on all those assholes, you don’t have to nag me.”
He gives Shouto a glare, and Shouto gives him a cool look in return, but steps aside to make way for him. Bakugou understands, and he regrets it, and that’s enough for Shouto. For now, at least. Later, he will talk to Bakugou and demand to know what had him distracted, what had him riled up, because it’s not the first time he’s been careless like this. It’s been happening for more than a week now, and if he doesn’t get it together, they may not be permitted to work together anymore, as rookie heroes. He needs to tell Shouto what’s wrong, or he can tell Midoriya, or just anyone, but it needs to be worked out before anyone gets hurt again - including Bakugou himself.
That it’s I’ll-Crush-You-And-Any-Dreams-You-Ever-Had-Bakugou that this is happening to, of all people, is, of course, a minor consideration, no matter how worrying it is. Shouto is good at leaving personal desires out of the picture, focusing only on the final goal to be achieved.
He learned that a long time ago, too.
Freezing Bakugou into the world’s most bizarre popsicle until he agrees to talk to (to confide in) Shouto can wait until later, though. Right now -
He kneels where Bakugou had crouched, not sure if Uraraka will be uncomfortable with the idea of being around him, his fire, especially when it’s the reason that the buildings around them, in this part of the abandoned town, are scorched and soot-streaked.
“We need to get you help,” Midoriya says, all wide and earnest eyes. “Will you be okay while one of us goes, Uraraka-san?”
The corner of her mouth quirks up vaguely - it’s all she can summon of her earlier smile.
“Of course, Deku, I’ll be fine. It’s really not - as bad as it -”
Shouto reaches out without thinking, to steady her as she sways, but his touch is, of course, unneeded. Midoriya already has one strong arm around her shoulders, keeping her upright, silently urging her to lean back against the rough block of concrete that is part of a fallen pillar. Shouto doesn’t remove his hand from her arm, though. Useless as the gesture may be, it makes him feel like he’s helping somehow, providing her with some modicum of support and comfort, that he’s not entirely useless in the situation. And it - gives him some small measure of comfort.
“You’re exhausted,” he says. “You were fighting longer than we were, and using your quirk almost constantly. The burn is the worst of it, but that’s not all that needs attention. We need medical professionals, or at least transport to a medical facility.”
Uraraka makes a soft sound that’s something between a snort and a laugh, one hand brushing against her useless phone. “And we just had to run into someone with a quirk that disables electrical devices today, didn’t we . . .”
“I could carry you,” Midoriya offers. “We could be at the next town in ten minutes.”
Uraraka shakes her head weakly, brown hair limp over her eyes. “Already - nauseous from Zero Gravity. I - thank you for offering but - bounding up and down like that - “
“Right, of course,” Midoriya says instantly, forehead creasing with worry. “Then, Todoroki-kun? Is your quirk - ?”
“It’s possible, yes, I can do it. But it would be slower, it would also exacerbate the nausea, and I don’t want to take the risk of my ice worsening your injury. If even the slightest bit comes into contact, I think it would feel like - like fire, probably - “
Uraraka shrinks back at that, just a little bit.
Shouto forces himself not to clench his fist, and continues, “And anyway you’re not supposed to apply ice to burns.”
Midoriya exhales, short and sharp. “Okay. Okay, okay, then I’ll go, I’ll get them, since I’ll be faster. I’ll be back as soon as I can, okay? Todoroki-kun, you’ll stay with - ?”
“Of course,” Shouto says before he even finishes the sentence. Of course, because where the hell else would he be?
Midoriya nods and is in the air almost before Shouto can blink. The thuds of his jumps are loud, concussive, and fading rapidly. They only hear three before he’s outside their range of hearing.*
Uraaka slowly lets her head fall back, her breathing going shallow and her features scrunching up in a way that implies that she’s been trying far too hard for far too long to seem calm and composed, and has just allowed herself to break. To stop.
It hurts, in a dull kind of way, because this is someone bright and kind and good, someone Shouto has fought beside too many times to count, has trusted with his life and been trusted with hers in return, someone who is comrade and friend and just - just dear to him, he realizes, she is dear to him in a way few people are. A bond forged in battle is no easy thing to replicate. And so seeing her like this, in pain, and being unable to help feels like something is squeezing his heart, compressing it until every heartbeat is a subdued ache.
But there’s nothing he can do, so he keeps his hand on her shoulder and resigns himself to feeling jittery and uncomfortable as he waits for Midoriya to return.
There are flakes of ash floating by, the air horribly still. Stifling. The only sounds are distant crashes of rubble that’s decided to fall only now, and the faint grunts of the trussed up villains. Bakugou, Shouto can’t hear at all (for once). He’s executing his mission in unnatural silence. Shouto hopes, vaguely, tiredly, as exhaustion sweeps over him in a wave, that he hasn’t run into any trouble - or killed the guy who’d irritated him so much in the first place. That’s an odd quirk, to be sure . . . it seems ridiculous, frustrating, but are there . . . possible uses?
Shouto’s eyes snap open.
“Uraraka,” he says, softly, urgently.
She levers her own eyes open and blinks at him blearily.
“If my ice would burn you - would my fire cool you?”
Her mouth opens a little, shock sharpening the features of her face.
“I - it - it might? But . . .” She frowns a bit, getting that look of furious focus that only appears when she’s trying desperately to think. “But ice isn’t good for burns, so would it - how would it - ”
“I don’t know,” he tells her, left hand already itching to be set ablaze. “Would you - like to try?”
Her eyes flick up to meet his, and he catches a glimpse of dark fear in them before she forces it back, swallowing.
“If you don’t want to -” he says immediately. He doesn’t want to pressure her in any way.
But she shakes her head weakly, biting her lip. “I think - m-maybe we should. It- “ Her voice breaks on a rising sob. “It really hurts, Todoroki-kun.”
“Okay,” he murmurs, trying to sound as soothing as he can. “We’ll do that, then. If you feel the slightest pain, anything at all, tell me immediately and we’ll stop, yes? We’re going to take this slow.”
Uraraka nods, pushing herself upright. Shouto allows one small flame to kindle at the tip of one finger, holding it like it’s a baby bird.
“Ready?”
She nods again, eyes screwed shut. He moves it towards her side carefully, the sight of the red-gold light against her burned, angry-looking skin making him wince. But he presses on, moving closer, closer, until he’s less than an inch away, and she should definitely be feeling some heat now, even if nerves have been damaged. But she says nothing.
“Feel anything?”
She shakes her head, relaxing a little. “No heat, but there’s like - a cool breeze?” Her eyes fall open. “I think you were right, Todoroki-kun.”
He moves closer, gingerly, until it’s almost licking at her side. “Now? Is it too cold?”
“N-no, it’s - good. It’s - ohh -” She almost shudders in relief when he allows it to press against her entirely. “It’s like cool water, it’s perfect.”
Shouto sighs quietly. “Good.”
He allows the flames to envelop his hand entirely and, very carefully, lays it flat against the burn. He can feel her skin even through the fire licking at the underside of his palm, rough and puckered and blistered, and his mouth twists without him meaning to.
“Todoroki-kun, could you - here?” She points, and he moves his hand accordingly, thinking about how if he had Kendo’s quirk in addition to his own he could just enlarge his hand to cool the entire affected area. But he doesn’t, and he can’t, and so he ends up absently stroking the entire burn in controlled sweeps, taking care not to get too close to the cloth of her costume because he has no clue as to whether the villain’s quirk extends to the clothes of the affected person as well.
It’s - weird. Once the buzz of his shock and anger has worn off, now that he’s doing something useful, helpful, it’s just odd. The whole situation is odd, kneeling on ashy ground in the middle of a ruined town, stroking a teammate’s burn with a hand on fire. And it’s even weirder that he’s doing this for Uraraka, of all people, because he might not be the most attentive person when it comes to social relationships, but everyone who had been in their class knows that there’s something between Midoriya and Uraraka, something tentative and nebulous and undefined that the two of them are too embarrassed to address; something that lasted through all the years since UA till now. And so if anyone should be - uh, touching (petting, Shouto thinks, and shudders slightly, shaking the uncomfortable thought out of his head) - Uraraka’s waist like this, it should most definitely not be Shouto.
But . . . it’s Uraraka. And since it’s Uraraka (as adept at defusing uncomfortable situations, with soothing words and just the right gestures, as she sometimes is at creating them, with nervous chatter and flustered hands) the smile she gives him and the way she relaxes, peacefully, ensures that he settles down to his task soon enough, the repetitive motion soothing away the chaos of battle still churning in his mind surprisingly effectively.
It’s one moment in a lifetime, one incident among hundreds that Shouto will experience in a lifetime as a pro hero. Yet later, when he’s older and more battle-scarred, when the white has started encroaching onto the red half of his hair, it’s that moment he thinks of when he thinks of tranquility, stillness, peace - Uraraka with her eyes closed, head tipped back against cracked concrete, the rise and fall of her chest gentle and steady (when before it had been harsh, stuttering) because his hand on her waist, his flames, are washing her pain away, keeping it at bay. It’s that atmosphere that he remembers, smokey and heavy and silent but - quiet, and comforting, as the adrenaline in his blood slows to a halt and his whirling thoughts slow and settle around a centre of silence.
It’s a feeling he will only be privileged to experience a few times in his life, that feeling of true peace. And he will never tell anyone, but to himself, Shouto can admit that the reason he watches Uraraka’s back more carefully in fights after that, the reason he listens to her worry about how Midoriya might never like her back, the reason he helps her make horrible Valentine’s Day chocolate and trains with her more and reads the books she recommends and -
- and becomes something of a best friend -
- is that he’s grateful to her for giving him that, that single, precious period of peace.
Even if is just - one moment in a lifetime.
