reclaiming my national roots by saying 'yous' instead of 'y'all' because i'm not a cowboy that's just the spirit of american entertainment speaking through me
#every so often i say an american english word in place of a british or scots english word and i get annoyed#because i fucking know i said 'yous' when i was a child and 'y'all' was an ironic dress-up-with-accents type of word#but that whole american cultural hegemony thing works in weird ways i guess#language#linguistics#american cultural imperialism#<- it feels dumb to tag this for such a small thing but at the end of the day the same tv shows and movies that make little british kids#think 911 is the emergency number is the same one that has subtly modified my language#also i know some people spell it youse or youz but like whatever#scotland#scottish#mine
