A Home Below
[A reintroduction to Jeremy, one of my OCs, who lives and works in the abbey. I reworked his characterization a bit/changed a few other things here and there, but he's mostly the same as before. As usual with these kinds of stories, you get to vote on who Jeremy will be interacting with in a poll at the end.] Below the cut.
Jeremy's never been fond of driving, he hates the traffic, hates the anxiety of it all, but mostly he hates that everyone was right; There is a certain kind of freedom in being able to pick up and leave a place whenever you like.
He still doesn't like it though.
If he's completely honest, he doesn't like being in cars at all.
In particular, if he has to sit in the backseat, he might as well just get out and walk.
There's too much to unpack as to why he hates it, but he chalks it up to motion sickness -because indeed the idea of sitting back there is nauseating to him- and leaves it at that.
"Daaad~?" a tiny voice calls to him from behind, "Dad, are we there yet??"
Jeremy sighs, the tense expression on his face easing up a bit as he peeks in the rearview mirror at his son.
"There's still a little ways to go, Bug." he tells the boy, catching big, blue eyes starting back at him, "...You've been pretty quiet back there. Did you fall asleep?"
"No..." the child responds, rubbing his eyes and yawning, "...Didn't."
"Okay." Jeremy smiles, returning his attention to the road ahead.
"Dad?"
"Yeah, kiddo?"
"...Why isn't Granny coming with us?"
Jeremy drums his fingers on the steering wheel to keep himself grounded.
"Whitney, do you... do you remember what we talked about?" he asks, "When we were at the house with Granny?"
"That Granny is getting re-something'd to Mr. Harper?"
"Remarried." Jeremy says, "Which means Mr. Harper is moving into Granny's house... and..."
"And Mr. Harper doesn't like Dad." Whitney mumbles softly.
Jeremy frowns, but nods.
"Yeah. Yeah, Mr. Harper doesn't like your old man much." he laughs, "But... But Mr. Harper likes Granny a whole lot, and Granny likes Mr. Harper."
"But Granny also likes Dad..."
"Granny does like Dad, but it's a different kind of like." Jeremy rolls his shoulders.
"Why?" Whitney asks.
"Why what, kiddo?"
"Why... why doesn't Mr. Harper like Dad?"
Jeremy purses his lips and fiddles with the radio, flipping through the stations, "I dunno, sweetheart, it's... It's grown-up stuff."
Whitney pouts, "It's always grown-up stuff."
"...How about we play a game until we get to the abbey, huh?" Jeremy proposes, looking back at Whitney in the mirror again, his frown deepening as he sees the boy staring out the window sadly, "...I know..."
"I know this is a big adjustment." he says, "And you know... you can, you can talk to me, yeah?"
Whitney sniffles, swiping his hand under his nose, "Y-Yeah... Jus'... Jus' gonna miss Granny..."
"...Me, too, Bug." Jeremy lies, "Me, too."
.
.
.
"Dad, why does that goat have boobies?" Whitney asks, his cheek squished to Jeremy's leg as they walk through the front hall of the abbey -refusing to be picked up or hold his father's hand, but wanting to remain as close as possible in an unfamiliar space- staring up at the statue of Baphomet, which is, thankfully, covered by a bit of subtle drapery across the chest... albeit not enough to avoid notice.
Jeremy clicks his tongue, regretting using the main entrance and not the side door near the parking lot. He'd wanted to save time and get to the offices upstairs quicker, but somehow he had managed to forget this one particular statue and...
"It's not polite to stare." Jeremy settles on after weighing his options, "Sometimes statues have boobies."
"Ah, okay..." Whitney hums, "...Is this our new house?"
"Mn, not quite." Jeremy says, walking over to the stairs, "C'mon, you have to let go and hold Dad's hand so we can get up the stairs safely, alright?"
Whitney frowns, removing his face from Jeremy's leg, the print of his jeans pressed lightly onto his round cheek.
"Where is our new house?" he asks, "Is it inside this house? ...You could fit... a bajillion of Granny's house in here."
"It's downstairs." Jeremy says, watching Whitney hop up the steps, "We have a whole apartment to ourselves, with a kitchen and two bedrooms, so you know what that means?"
Whitney blinks at him, "...Granny has a room to sleep in here when she visits?"
"Not quite. It means you finally have your own big boy room." Jeremy informs him, "And you get your own separate bed instead of the trundle, isn't that fun?"
"...Can it be a dinosaur bed?" he asks, eyes sparkling, "I want a dinosaur bed."
"Well, it can't be a dinosaur bed, but we can get you dinosaur sheets, how about that?"
"And a dinosaur?"
Jeremy snorts, "We'll see."
As they make it to the top of the stairs, Jeremy picks Whitney -who almost immediately goes limp in protest- up, and heads down the hallway to a glass door with a paper sign on it that reads, "Staff Daycare" in big bubble letters, "I have to speak to someone very important, so I need you to be on your best behavior while I go talk to them."
"Why can't I go with you?" Whitney complains, leaning back as far as Jeremy's arms will allow him to.
"It's going to be very boring," Jeremy says, opening the door, "and you'll have a lot more fun playing here than having to sit quietly."
"Nuh-uh." the boy protests, "I can be quiet!"
"Maybe next time."
After handing Whitney off, Jeremy makes his way back downstairs, and takes a left down an empty corridor, his heart pounding in his chest.
Despite having worked for the abbey for nearly a year now, he still feels... out of place.
And a small part of him worries that when he reaches his destination, that they'll have changed their minds about letting him and his son live there.
He's not some high level clergyman, or even a member of the church; He's a custodian, one of five tasked with maintaining the property, but his circumstances are a little different than his peers'.
Taking a deep breath, Jeremy follows a winding path around the abbey to a section of the building that transitions to a more modern aesthetic -a later addition to the structure- with white marble floors and walls lined in row upon row of carefully labeled drawers.
It's colder in this part of the abbey, not that Jeremy notices with his elevated heart rate, if anything the cold is doing him a favor, and there's no one around, and yet...
Glancing over his shoulder, Jeremy shivers as one of the drawers rattles ever so slightly.
"Nope."
Steeling himself, Jeremy hastens his pace down the hallway, his heavy footfalls echoing off the stone.
"Ah. You're earlier than anticipated." A familiar voice startles him from around a corner, causing him to give an undignified yelp, "Oopsie."
Jeremy places a hand over his chest, "Elijah..."
.
.
.
"I can't thank you enough for this." Jeremy says, "It's... I'm just so grateful."
"Think nothing of it." Brother Elijah smiles, "We have more than enough room to spare for you and your son... How is he?"
"Confused." Jeremy sighs, "He doesn't really understand why we had to move, but I think he'll be happier here in the long run, especially if it turns out that he's... like me."
"The likelihood that your son has inherited your condition is rather high, but you needn't worry, in fact I think it will be good for both of you to be around others like yourself..." Brother Elijah says, leaning back in his chair.
Jeremy fidgets, "I..."
He opens and closes his mouth, drawing his lips into a thin line of uncertainty and doubt.
"Jeremy..." Brother Elijah says, folding his hands on top of his desk, "You and I have known each other for some time now, and though the circumstances of our meeting was, perhaps, less than ideal, I do consider you a friend. I ask that you trust in me that I have your best interests in mind when I say this... but you need to accept yourself first before you can truly be there for your son. You know this."
"I... I know." Jeremy admits, "...I've had years to accept it, but it's still hard, and I hate that you're right... Being around other people like me could... it could help."
"That's why I secured you a room downstairs, it will be close to the den, but separate." Brother Elijah assures him, "It will be like having neighbors."
"Certainly one way of putting it..."
Brother Elijah chuckles, "Really though, I think seeing that they're not monsters will help you come to terms with being a ghoul."
"...We'll see."
.
.
.
"It doesn't smell like a basement down here." Whitney comments, swinging Jeremy's arm back and forth as they walk, "Smells like... Mn... Cookies?"
"That's because we use a special floor cleaner down here." Jeremy informs his son, "It's supposed to smell like vanilla."
"Ohhh... I don't like vanilla." Whitney hums, "It tastes bad, but it does smell good!"
"You used to love vanilla when you were a baby." Jeremy says, "But as soon as you got your hands on your first taste of chocolate, it was all over..."
"I love chocolate... can we have it for dinner?"
"You know the rules, Bug."
"...No chocolate after 6pm." Whitney stares at his shoes, then looks up at Jeremy, hopeful, "But that was a Granny's house rule, this isn't Granny's house! So can we??"
"I dunno, Bug... How about this; You can have a bag of animal crackers-"
"A whole bag??"
"A whole bag, If-"
"Oh no."
"-If you help unpack your room."
Whitney drags his feet, "But that's boriiing..."
"Tough toots, Bug."
"Hehe... toots." Whitney giggles, "Dad said toots."
Jeremy smiles, "So what do you think? Gonna help your old man out?"
Whitney nods, then pauses, rooting his feet to one spot.
"What's wrong, Bug?" Jeremy asks, crouching down, "Everything okay?"
"Who's that?" Whitney points.
Jeremy follows his finger and...

Best Mistake: Pt. 2
Ong Seongwoo x OC
g: slice of life, best friends to ?
summary: as someone who doesn’t really care much about love and hates commitments, your friendship with your best friend, Seongwoo, gets tested once his girlfriend leaves abroad and entrusts you on taking care of him for her; only to make a night of mistakes that you both know will regret.
w!: profanity, mature content
requested? yes! ♥
a/n: i’m really sorry it took me a while to post part 2! i lost the file since i had my computer fixed and i’m working on everything to make sure i post more often! also thank you guys for answering the poll i posted days before. i’ll work harder!
Seongwoo groaned and kept rolling around, scratching his head as he felt a bit of a hangover as he forced himself to slowly wake up. He saw a figure of a lady next to him, thinking it was Jisoo as he smirked and moved his chin to her shoulder, giving small kisses as he tried to wake her up as well.
But he suddenly remembered Jisoo had left the day before, leaning a bit to check who it was; and he literally freaked out the moment he saw your face and suddenly shifted to the side. He covered his mouth and gasped, making you frown and open your eyes to notice you were naked in your own bed, seeing clothes thrown all over the floor. You enlarged your eyes to look at the other side to see Seongwoo with eyes blinking nervously as you felt your cheeks heat up in immense embarrassment over the fact that you did sleep with him the night before
“WHAT THE FUCK?!” you yelled, covering your whole body with the blanket you both shared and slightly kicking him off the bed
“STOP IT! I’M JUST AS SHOCKED AS YOU!” Seongwoo retorted as he grabbed his boxers from the side and put them on in a hurry, making you cover your eyes in horror the moment you saw his naked body right in front of you
“Put that away!” you grumbled as you looked to the other side
“What’s the point? We already fucked so you’ve seen every part of me by now.” Seongwoo sighed and shook his head as he put on his jeans
“Excuse me? Who was the idiot who thought it was a good idea to cheat on their girlfriend with their best friend by having a one night stand?” you turned your head to look at him with furrowed brows, and Seongwoo suddenly paused for a bit as he looked at you blankly before sitting on the edge of the bed and rubbing his hands on his face
“Shit.” he mumbled, and you suddenly felt bad for making him a lot guilty of what you just said
“Seongwoo… I’m sorry…” you tried to move to go closer to him, but he suddenly stood up and grabbed his shirt and flannel at the side
“I need to go.” Seongwoo said as he opened the door swiftly while putting on his shirt, closing it immediately as he walked out of your apartment directly to leave
You only ended up looking at your bedroom door as you clutched the blankets against your body, biting your bottom lip in both embarrassment and guilt over what had just happened. You tried to remember what did happen the night before, scratching the back of your head lightly as you leaned back on your headboard, trying to figure out what to do next.
-
Seongwoo blanked out as he sat in his car, forgetting to start the engine after he got in ten minutes before. He was also trying to think about what actually happened, only remembering that you both became mindlessly drunk. He scratched his head while his other hand gripped the steering wheel, wanting to feel remorseful and yet also a bit confused. Not only did he not remember that you both just had sex the night before, he also didn’t know why it started in the first place. His eyes shifted to his phone on the side that started to vibrate, seeing Jisoo’s name on the screen that startled him for a second
“Fuck, she shouldn’t find out.” he muttered under his breath as he grabbed his phone and answered the call
“Baby? Hi! I just arrived Milan!” Jisoo exclaimed excitedly over the phone
“That’s amazing! Hey, can I call you back in a while? I have to take a shower.” Seongwoo chuckled nervously
“It’s past 12 noon there? Were you out drinking last night?” Jisoo whined
“K-kinda. You know, with friends.” Seongwoo stuttered and blinked quickly, becoming even more nervous
“Alright. As long as you were with y/n. I trust her on taking care of a drunken Seongwoo.” Jisoo laughed, but Seongwoo was only able to widen his eyes
“Babe, got to go. Call me later?” Seongwoo sighed
“Okay. Have a great day! I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Once Seongwoo put down the call, he felt guilty and confused. He wanted to tell Jisoo the truth, but he didn’t want to lose you either. For once, he contemplated about speaking to you about this but he also believed you weren’t ready to tell him, or anyone.
Or so he thought.
-
Minhyun squinted his eyes as he looked at you fidgeting on the bottom of your shirt, not even glancing back at him. He was suspicious about something, but didn’t want to come off rude when he asks. He sighed, looking back to the garden that was well loved by many of the citizens in the city where they took strolls around, whether it were for couples, families, or even close friends. You and your friends loved hanging out often there, sitting at a bench at the corners, including the one you both were at
“So tell me why you called me out of all our friends? We never really hung out alone together.” Minhyun looked around, trying to be more direct
“I felt like you’re the most honest out of every one of my friends.” you admitted, making him look at you
“Did you commit a crime or something?” Minhyun chuckled, trying to clear the dead air
“No? Um, not really.” you scratched the back of your head and looked to the size, still avoiding his gaze
“Hey. Just tell me and I swear, I won’t judge you.” Minhyun gave a smile and you felt like he did without even looking at him, so you turned to smile back and sighed
“Promise?”
“Promise.” he grinned, crossing his arms
“Okay.” you shifted your body a bit to face him properly and took a deep breath
“So, you know that me and Seongwoo drank right?”
“Yeah, so?”
“Uh, we kind of…” you pouted, trying to get the words out of your mouth
“Kissed?” Minhyun raised a brow
“Uh, sort of?” you raised one brow before looking away
It took Minhyun a while to think about what you were trying to tell him. But as soon as he got deep with his thoughts, he finally realized that you were referring to more than just a kiss
“WAIT YOU SLEPT WITH SEONGWOO?” Minhyun gasped and said loudly, making other people nearby look at both of you and you tried to shush Minhyun down out of embarrassment
“Thanks a lot, you idiot. Now even the whole park knows!” you whispered, facepalming
“Does Jisoo know?” Minhyun crossed his arms again as you looked down
“She doesn’t. She shouldn’t.” you bit your bottom lip out of shame and shook your head
“Hey, you both were drunk. What’s wrong with two best friends…” Minhyun gulped before he could continue
“Two best friends… make a mistake while being very drunk and with no control of themselves?” he grinned awkwardly, trying to make you feel better
“Well it wouldn’t be wrong I suppose IF one of them already has someone else.” you frowned, looking at Minhyun
“You have to speak to Seongwoo about this.” Minhyun shook his head
“I want to, but I don’t know if he’s up for it.” you stood up, slowly walking away
“Wait.” Minhyun called, following you and grabbing your wrist
“Tell me. Is there guilt in there?” he looked at you worriedly
“Of course there’s guilt! You expect me to fuck someone who already has a partner?!” you screeched, making Minhyun cover your mouth with his hand and make sure no one else heard you properly
“There are children here.” Minhyun whispered
“Sorry.” you sighed and swiped his hand away
“Look. If it makes you feel any better, maybe we should go somewhere else and try to forget this happened.” he said as he stood straight back up and looked to the side
“How can I forget the fact that I slept with my best friend, who has a girlfriend, and not feel super ultra responsible about everything?” you frowned again
“Actually, you both are responsible for what happened.”
“You’re not helping!”
-
Seongwoo agreed to meet up with Minhyun, but what he didn’t know was that you were gonna be with him along with Daniel and Jisung. Minhyun invited Seongwoo over to a restaurant that they both frequented, even back from college days. He waited outside and saw Minhyun arrive with Jisung, but you decided to hide first with Daniel inside the restaurant.
“Hey, Seongwoo. Glad you could make it.” Minhyun smiled
“Yeah. Kind of wanted to meet you guys. I wanted to talk about some stuff.” Seongwoo nodded, walking with the other two to go inside the restaurant
The plan turned out well, with the three of them going inside and Jisung ‘spotting’ you and Daniel on a so-called ‘date’ from the other side of the room
“Oh, look! It’s Daniel and…. is that y/n?” Jisung said sarcastically, making Minhyun nudge Jisung and Seongwoo look at his friends and then to you and Daniel on your ‘date’
“I did not expect for them to go out on a date. Who knew, right Seongwoo?” Minhyun turned to look at Seongwoo
“I just remembered I didn’t feel like eating chicken.” Seongwoo tried to walk away, but Minhyun grabbed his arm just in time
“Is there something wrong?” Minhyun asked, and Seongwoo just looked at him and then to Jisung, and then back to him and let out a sigh and a smile
“No. Nothing’s wrong.” he nodded
“Good. Now, I’m gonna order and you both go and sit with them.” Jisung slightly pushed the two to walk away and he started going in line
“Ah. Surprised to see you both here.” Minhyun greeted you and Daniel, looking at him with surprise until you turned to Seongwoo and grinned awkwardly
“Hey.” Daniel said as he moved to the side
“May I sit here?” Minhyun immediately sat next to Daniel, and Seongwoo had no other choice but to sit next to you
“What are you doing? Aren’t you gonna sit next to your best friend?” Minhyun pointed to the space next to you, and Seongwoo just smiled sarcastically and sat next to you, obviously feeling discomfort
“You told me and y/n to meet you guys here.” Daniel whispered to Minhyun
“Yes, I did. Don’t spoil it.” Minhyun mumbled back
“So. What’s new?” Minhyun smiled, trying to make things a little less awkward
“Me and Daniel were talking about going on a trip next weekend.” you nodded
“Oh, really? Where are we going?” Minhyun chuckled
“Uhh, we thought it was just gonna be us two…” Daniel said as he looked down, and then shifted his eyes towards you and Seongwoo
“…So it’s a date between you two, then?” Minhyun pointed to him and to you back and forth as he spoke
“We’re just going to a music festival. We’re getting separate hotel rooms, mind you.” you shook your head mockingly
“I thought we were gonna go together?” Seongwoo suddenly interrupted, making you look at him along with everyone else
“Oh…” you paused, before Daniel could speak for you
“We thought you were gonna be busy since you told us you’d be busy Skyping with Jisoo on Saturday nights.” Daniel reminded
“Right. Yeah, I didn’t want to go anyway.” Seongwoo looked to the side, feeling a little bit sulky
“I mean, if you’re free and would just tell Jisoo-“
“Tell Jisoo what?” Seongwoo cut you off, looking at you with slight annoyance that seemed to on the edge
“Tell her you’re going to the festival with us, of course.” Daniel replied instead of you, since he knew you were starting to get more uncomfortable
“I see. I’ll think about it. For now, I just wanna go home.” Seongwoo said and stood up
“Chicken is here!” Jisung cheered as he arrived with a tray full of chicken, but you and the others just looked at him with dull expressions
“Enjoy, you guys. I’m heading off.” Seongwoo said as he stood up and gave Jisung a pat on the shoulder, walking away and leaving all of you confused
“What’s with him?” Jisung said as he looked at Seongwoo walk away
Getting even more aggravated by Seongwoo’s attitude, you followed him after a few minutes and ran out of the restaurant, spotting him walking his way to the nearest station
“Ong Seongwoo!” you yelled out, but he seemed to not hear
You ran off and followed him, grabbing his arm and forcing him to turn and look at you. He was startled, but also expectant that anyone would even follow him for just leaving all of the sudden. He just didn’t expect it to be you, since he thought you were just as uncomfortable as how he felt the more he was right beside you
“Can we talk?” you huffed, Seongwoo pulling back his arm and looking at you blankly
“About what? The fact that I technically cheated on my girlfriend because I fucked my own best friend?” Seongwoo frowned all of the sudden and crossed his arms
“Seongwoo, is there any chance for you to be more mature about this?” you crossed your arms back as a retort, but he was getting even more heated
“We’re both supposed to be mature about this but you can’t even tell the others what happened.” he replied, but you suddenly became silent and your expression slowly softened
“Wait, did you…?” Seongwoo said in appall, shaking his head slowly
“I can’t believe you spoke to the others about this before even telling me about it.” Seongwoo sighed, looking away
“No, Seongwoo. I only told Minhyun and he promised to not tell anyone else and-“
“Listen. I don’t know what to do anymore and I just really need to think about what happened last night.” Seongwoo looked at you, emotions all mixed as he saw Minhyun stand nearby looking at both of you
“Just. I want to be alone.” he slowly turned and walked away, leaving you standing at the side of the road as he passed to the other side, not even taking one look back
You felt a hand on your shoulder and slowly turned to see Minhyun look at you with worry, making you bury your face on his chest as he held you tightly into a hug
“He needs time for himself.” Minhyun said as he put his chin on the top of your head
“He doesn’t want to talk to me at all.” you mumbled, already starting to feel tears fall from your eyes
“I’ll try to talk to him.” Minhyun looked at Seongwoo already far away, face slowly slightly showing a hint of anger and annoyance since he didn’t like seeing you upset at all.
Somehow, Minhyun’s thoughts suddenly went dark of wanting to speak to Seongwoo: he believed that it was mostly Seongwoo’s fault, and he wanted to fight for your side.
