hi jeanie!! i was wondering if u had any thoughts on what the quarry counselors' favorite nintendo franchises might me?
-cas @chrashley :)
Hi Cas! 🥰 Ooh I love this question! I tried to stick with games I’m familiar with but there's a couple I've never played myself. That being said I'd be interested to hear what other's think in case I missed anything 👀
Abi - Animal Crossing, she enjoys more cozy games and it would bring out her artistic side, creating her own clothes and decorating her house/town/island. She doesn’t do anything extravagant but she plays a fair amount, she enjoys bug catching and visiting her favorite neighbors with gifts.
Dylan - The Legend of Zelda, nice mix of puzzles, action, and music depending on the game. He gets really into the new mechanics in BOTW and TOTK, going from creating really intricate mechanics to designing dick shaped machines. Perhaps projecting but I’d say he’d have a soft spot for Twilight Princess (you can hold and talk to cats!)
Kaitlyn - Splatoon, the shooter of the Nintendo franchises. She meticulously goes through all the weapons in order to pick the best one depending on specials and sub weapons (she strikes me as a sniper). She also loves the idols and music and designing her squid with all the fresh fashion choices. She definitely makes it to ruler rank whenever she participates in Splatfests (and claims bullshit if her team loses).
Ryan - Pokemon, perhaps inspired by Justice being in Detective Pikachu, but as an aspiring animator he’d be interested in all the different Pokemon designs. When Ryan builds his team he gets really attached to them. He’d never attempt a nuzlocke, he’s sticking with his whole team til the end. He of course loves the ghost types, but I think he’d also have something like Loudred or Golbat, something audio/sound related. He definitely plays a lot with Sarah.
Emma - Metroid, Emma is resourceful, working well under pressure and able to adapt to situations quickly, so when she takes the controller for Metroid she effortlessly switches from platforming to shooting, completely tearing the alien enemies to shreds. She loves Samus and probably got into the series for the leading lady. One of her favorite elements is the morph ball, but the arm canon might have it beat.
Jacob - WarioWare, while a more competitive game may seem like Jacob’s first choice I think if he had to choose a favorite he’d prefer the quick micro games that WarioWare has to offer. It’s fun, fast, no time to think just DO. He also really enjoys the zany humor and eccentric characters. It’s also a plus to play with others and can somehow still turn competitive, especially when playing with Nick.
Nick - Pikmin, Nick likes to go with the flow so he'd like something less fast paced but still something with some strategy. I think he'd find assigning Pikmin with their different abilities to various tasks satisfying. Since he also loves nature he'd enjoy the exploration element, as well. And really he just thinks the Pikmin are cute.
Laura - Animal Crossing, since she’s interested in veterinary science she’d probably enjoy the animal characters, Max most likely introduces her to the game for that reason. However, unlike Abi she plays it more seriously. She has to complete every task, pop every balloon, and fill the entire museum with every collectible. She has to stop playing when it cuts time into her personal productivity. She has a 5 star island.
Max - Yoshi, Max is definitely not a competitive player, he plays games that are more chill. He enjoys the straightforward mechanics of swallow enemies, throw eggs/yarn, with nothing too punishable or frustrating like with other tenser games. The vibrant, colorful world definitely doesn’t hurt with all the cute smiling flowers, shy guys on stilts, and most importantly: Poochy.
All the counselors love Mario Party and Mario Kart, some less so than others as the game progresses and they continue to lose (Jacob).
#the quarry#abigail blyg#dylan lenivy#kaitlyn ka#ryan erzahler#emma mountebank#jacob custos#nick furcillo#laura kearney#max brinly#almost gave nick star fox or donkey kong#emma was gonna be princess peach showtime but metroid kept calling to me#abi also gives me kirby vibes

Chapter 4: In Which the Past Comes Back to Haunt You
If Twig hadn’t glanced over her shoulder as she passed— if her unease hadn’t shot off the charts as she turned the corner— she wouldn’t have even caught a glimpse of the guy that had messed her life up even worse than the Dark Future. Her mind was going a mile a minute, wondering how Darkrai was still alive, why he was so close to Verdant Village, what nefarious plans he had for the world and all the people she loved within it— he knew she was alone, he had to, and he knew that she didn’t have any backup—
But all her thoughts ground to a stuttering halt when he rasped a quiet Hello.
“Uh.” She blinked. “Hi?”
Silence.
“What— what are you doing here?”
He tilted his head, looking up in consideration, and paused before he answered. “I’m not sure.”
More silence.
He eyed her bag for a moment, icy gaze slowly turning back to her face. “Could you spare some food?”
Mechanically, she reached into the satchel and held out an apple, fingers twitching with nerves as he came forward to accept it. Darkrai looked… different somehow, coming out of the ferns. There was something off about him that she couldn't place, but she also noticed he was scuffed up pretty bad and realized he was definitely at a disadvantage with the types of pokemon frequenting the mystery dungeon. She was still on autopilot when she reached into the bag with her other hand and held out an oran berry as well. He accepted them silently, moving back to lurk behind the ferns. Though with the way he held himself, it wasn't lurking, not really. More like waiting, or hiding. Cowering.
He swallowed the berry first and was slow in finishing the apple. He watched her as he ate. She watched him in return.
"Where are you going next?" She found herself asking.
"I do not have many plans as to my destination. I lack much direction, as of now."
That didn't match up with the master planner she was so terrified of. Was she imagining this? Had her janky little peabrain finally overclocked itself enough to start hallucinating things?
She grit her teeth. Summoning her courage, she intended to threaten him with something along the lines of 'Listen up, Darkrai, we beat you once and we'll do it again.' But she only got as far as the first three words when his response made everything fall into place.
"How—" He looked completely disoriented, shocked. "How do you know my name?"
… Oh.
Right. He went through a Passage of Time that was tampered with just like she had, didn't he? And now he had amnesia. Poetic justice, she supposed. A bit of tit for tat, eye for an eye, quid pro quo comeuppance for the sadistic dastard.
And yet.
Was the jolt of concern she felt something like Kip felt when he first found her, or was it fear that he was bluffing, and that this was another ruse like Cresselia was?
He was waiting for an answer.
"Lucky guess," she lied.
The look he gave her was less one of a monster relishing the way she squirmed and more one of confusion. “Hm. I have not encountered someone who recognized me enough to know my species name. Apologies for losing my composure, albeit briefly. It was not right.”
Was this the same darkrai? Were there multiple darkrai? Cresselia sure as heck never mentioned there being more than one member of the type of Legend she’d been tracking down across time and space, and she didn’t seem the type to let something so important go unsaid. But Twig could not wrap her head around the lord of nightmares apologizing for simply raising his voice in surprise. That jolt of concern had settled to wrap itself up around her ribcage now. She was definitely afraid of the possibility of this being another trick, but it was becoming clearer that she felt more pity for the person before her than terror.
She knew what it was like to be lost without knowing anything other than your name. She wouldn’t wish it on her worst enemy. And yet, here he was, having suffered the same fate as he had inflicted on her.
She spoke before she realized she’d opened her mouth. “Do you have somewhere to spend the night?”
He blinked, eyes widening in surprise. “No.”
“You can crash at my place tonight. You look… Well, you’ve looked better. I think some rest would do you a lot of favors.”
Darkrai followed her out of the mystery dungeon, noticeably wary whenever the pokemon within cast appraising glances their way. Twig hadn’t thought twice of the stares before that ominous paranoia flared up, and she was starting to realize why all of the dungeon’s inhabitants seemed so strangely on edge today. People didn’t have to be asleep to feel unsettled by Darkrai’s presence, and that was putting it lightly. She didn’t stop by Gardevoir’s place, only leaving the massive apple and a note for Lyra on their porch— the family was always out in town square by this time anyhow, and even if they weren’t, she wasn’t in a rush to expose them to the dread that was so painfully thick in the air thanks to the Legend trailing in her wake like a second shadow.
Darkrai took in the interior of Twig’s home with a scrutinizing eye similar to Gardevoir’s. She was starting to get the feeling her decor situation was more dire than she realized. She tucked the thought aside and went about her usual routine of unpacking her bag of wares to sell and goods to use herself, and was surprised to find that Darkrai’s presence was actually less noticeable than she expected. It was more like a bruise than a dagger between her shoulders. If she pressed on it, she would realize just who was standing in the corner of her kitchen and watching her prep sitrus berries for supper. But if she left it alone, it was only a dull ache at the back of her mind.
She wasn’t used to cooking for two anymore. It had taken her weeks to stop making meals like Kip was there to eat them with her, but she had finally adapted, and now she had to add in a second serving at the last minute when she remembered that was what you were supposed to do when someone was in your home.
Darkrai hadn’t spoken since he had passed over her doorstep. She dished a second bowl of simmered vegetables and savory berries and offered it to him, and he stared down at the bowl for several moments before accepting it. It was then that he broke the silence. “I appreciate your hospitality, Charmeleon.”
Somehow, Darkrai referring to her by her species name was the strangest part of this situation. It always weirded her out how Pokemon made such a big deal out of only using personal names when you were good friends with someone, or at least significantly older or of a higher rank than them, but it oddly managed to clash even harder against her upbringing as a human when Darkrai didn’t refer to her as Twig. She told him she didn’t mind it if he used her given name, introducing herself.
“... ‘Twig’ is your name?” He asked, a note of confusion in his level tone.
“Yeah. What about it?”
“It seems a peculiar monicker for one of your heritage.”
“What do you mean by h—?” Her tail twitched as she puzzled out his meaning, and the flame at its tip flickered a slight peach. “Oh. I, uh, I was named by a grass-type.”
Darkrai hummed in acknowledgment, then began to eat.
Twig realized that she must have had a human name once, and she didn’t know what it could have been. Did Grovyle know? Why did she feel such a need to learn a name that didn’t matter anymore? It stung at her heart, the idea of her forgetting a name given to her by a family she couldn’t recall the faces of.
And then she realized something horrible.
She had remembered her past. Yes, she had only recovered bits and pieces of it, but she had remembered them nonetheless. But if she had begun to remember who she was before her amnesia… couldn’t Darkrai do the same? Couldn’t the person sitting across the table from her remember whatever motive he had to shroud the world in darkness? Couldn’t he recover his cruelty, his sadistic cheer at others’ misery?
She’d been treating him as a charity case, but she should have been seeing him as a timebomb.
It was a struggle to sleep that night. She’d locked and barricaded the door of the guest room she retired in despite knowing it meant nothing— if Darkrai wanted her dead right now, she would die. She didn’t have Cresselia to guide her through a maze of terrifying shadows. She didn’t have Kip to back her up and keep her from breaking down. When she did manage to close her eyes and slip away into slumber, it was only to be greeted by nightmares. Dreams of being chased by monsters, of being crushed by walls that closed in further on her with every inhale, of being eaten alive or burned until her very bones were nothing but charred ash… When she woke in the morning, it was to an exhaustion that weighed her limbs down like lead and to a fear that made them buzz with anxiety.
What if Darkrai remembered? Was it even a matter of ‘if’, or was it a matter of ‘when’? Could she do anything to stop it? She had often reflected on how different her life would've been if she encountered someone other than Kip on the beach that fateful day. She had wondered if she had been picked up by Koffing and Zubat if she would have become just as vile as them, or if she had been taken in by Kanghaskan whether she would have ever become an explorer. She had wondered if she had wandered off on her own, alone, if she would have evaded Dusknoir’s initial discovery of her identity, if she would have never reunited with Grovyle, and if by the following chain of events Temporal Tower would have truly fallen and the Dark Future would have been guaranteed. If she had been taken in by someone who had told her they knew her before she lost her memory, though… If she had been given lies that seemed to click together well enough to be true…
She slid the lone piece of furniture that she’d placed in the guest room— a dresser that was scratched up and cheap as dirt when she bought it— out of the way. She unlocked the door. Darkrai was staring out the window when she entered the main room, watching the sliver of light on the horizon grow brighter as dawn broke.
Darkrai began to greet her when she cut him off. “Do you have somewhere to stay?”
He paused. “As I said yesterday, I do not have a designated residence at the moment. I—”
“Why not stay here? Indefinitely. I don’t— I don’t mind, and I’ve got the room. So it would work out great for us both!”
He watched her in silence.
She could feel herself breaking out in a cold sweat. Arceus, don’t let him see through this. Please, please—
“Very well,” Darkrai finally said. “If you do not mind my remaining here, I will not refuse your hospitality. Thank you, Twig.”
“Great! Great. Uh. Cool.” Her forced smile wavered. “I’m going to go, um… check my inventory for when I go to sell at the market.”
Darkrai watched her disappear into the hallway. She could feel those icy eyes picking her every move apart with surgical precision, analyzing the way she ducked into the guest room again to lock the door and get her hyperventilating back to a nigh-undetectable volume.
She couldn’t help but wonder just how much of a mess it was that she’d dived headfirst into.

It's canon that Pokemon do usually call their trainers master, though! That's normal. Look at episodes where Pokemon speech is subtitled or dubbed over, like Island of the Giant Pokemon, or where Pokemon use illusions to speak, like Just Waiting on a Friend.
One of the many gripes I have with how embarrasing and weird the script is for The Legend of Thunder is Hun (dub Bashou) calling Attila (dub Buson) "big guy." Also, the dub changed it to make them new partners. (Which makes me feel like the dub's implying Hun chases off all her/his partner's with, I dunno, either that over-exaggerated-in-the-dub sadistic streak that swallowed up the rest of Hun's personality or by this weird stuff).
As someone who didn't play the games, oh, okay, so the obnoxiously flirty Rotom Dex my Trip got saddled with in a roleplaying game owing to RNG (it got "Ash-level forgetfulness and Brock-level flirtatiousness," sorry about your whole life, Trip) is like... a personality canon Rotom Dex have. Good to know! Good to know.
why was the rotom pokedex like that btw

Thoughts on LoM Anime Episode 8: Blackpearl - Leave Shiloh Alone >:(
Here's this week's thoughts on this week's episode! And a link to the episode as well~
youtube
As usual, spoilers and discussion of Episode 8: Blackpearl, which features the events of the Cosmo quest of the Jumi arc!
There's a lot of things that happened in this episode, and as a result the pacing feels a bit…janky to me. It's not bad, but I think this episode could have done better.
Going off from the previous episode, Elazul and Shiloh go find Pearl, only to find she's already been kidnapped, with Sandra's note saying she's at Mekiv Caverns. Good on Shiloh to remember Sandra's penchant for disguises and explain it to Elazul, but the poor Jumi remains justifiably suspicious of Serafina. Speaking of our heroine, she doesn't appear in this episode, and there's no explanation yet as to where she is. Bummer, I was hoping to see her…and poor girl is probably not aware yet that Esmeralda has already been murdered.
Anyway, Shiloh and Elazul go to Mekiv. There's a brief battle scene where Elazul reveals he cannot use the Sword of Fate just yet - similar to how he mentions it in the game, it can only be used once.
You can actually get it for yourself if you choose Pearl to accompany you at Teardrop Crystal, and then talk to Elazul after you make your choice. If I remember right, Sword of Fate is an Ishe Platinum Sword with a 40 attack stat - and contrary to what Elazul says, you can equip it and use it as long as you wish, so a bit of gameplay and story segregation there.
After that battle scene, the two keep looking for Pearl and run into the Lord of Jewels, who's being kinda creepy sorting through rocks and muttering to himself lol. But he's just as polite as he is in the game and points our heroes to where Sandra and Pearl are. Elazul does show signs of familiarity with him, but he also states that he doesn't really know the Lord of Jewels. I wonder if they have met and Elazul just forgot, or if his Jumi instinct is reacting to the cores the Lord of Jewels has already swallowed.
Now onto the meat of today's episode, which is: Shiloh gets beaten up, again. Not kidding. Sandra takes out Elazul first by throwing a dagger at his core, and similar to the game, she demands that Pearl shed tears of life to heal him. Shiloh tries to fight her, but gets stabbed in the shoulder. Sandra is really cold though, and just to really drive Pearl into crying she also stabs Shiloh's knee.
Leave my cinnamon roll alone, Sandra! >:(
Despite that, Pearl still can't cry though, so Sandra asks Elazul which of them is she going to kill. Elazul offers himself up, but just as Sandra is about to pull his core, Blackpearl decided, yep, it's showtime! Her transformation here is different though, a black whirlwind surrounds Pearl and then she takes her place, while in the game rays of light come out along with illusions of flowers. I rather wished they kept that effect.
Oh, and I'm a bit sad Pearl didn't state the line where she asks to be given the power to defend Elazul.
The anime really plays up her vulnerability, but I'll wait until I see the next episodes to properly comment on it. In the game, Pearl is meek but she can still assert herself, though this happens more after Two Pearls, so maybe her character development in the anime is also waiting to happen.
What is accurate to the game is that Sandra is terrified of Blackpearl and backs away immediately - can't blame her, and Sandra fully knows just how good Blackpearl is at fighting! So instead, Sandra just goes Pokemon trainer and summons some Jewel Beasts with rocks she threw before getting away. Blackpearl takes them down easy, though. The Jewel Beasts do look nice, props to the visuals team for that, even though Blackpearl just smashes them in less than thirty seconds lol.
So far the Legend of Mana anime has been stunning visually, but I do notice that battle scenes aren't very smooth and can have a bit of awkward choreography sometimes, and since this episode had a few of them it got a bit more noticeable than usual. LoM as an anime definitely isn't one made for intense battle scenes, I'd pity the poor animators who have to deal with the already super detailed character designs and then animate them in fluid battle scenes. This doesn't make it a bad anime though! I hate the mentality that anime has to have great fight scenes to be called good.
So even though I think the battle scenes are a bit lackluster this episode, I'd say this was more of a pacing issue…because after all this happens, they still had to wrap up the rest of Cosmo's events. I think they should have put another episode about it rather than setting up the events of Two Pearls for the next one.
So Blackpearl appears and tells Elazul he's free of being a Jumi knight, and Elazul shows he does in fact know of Blackpearl's identity. Elazul is still injured though, and the Lord of Jewels comes in to help Shiloh and Elazul out rather than to let Elazul die then and there.
Poor Bud and Lisa come home only to find a bloodied Shiloh and a passed out Elazul on their hands. They're great kids though, and take care of Elazul. Shiloh recovers much faster this episode thankfully, I guess he got used to receiving some hard knocks!
While Elazul is recovering, Shiloh has a talk with Duelle, who reminds him to keep his focus on what he wants to do, and Shiloh re-affirms his wish to continue helping out the Jumi and stop their deaths. I do like Duelle and Shiloh's friendship, Duelle has got a really good mentor vibe to him that helps Shiloh out.
Shortly after this Elazul wakes up and tries to go, and Shiloh tries to stop him since Elazul is still suffering from the crack on his core. Elazul isn't having it though, and they get into a bit of a shouting match - boy, Nobunaga Shimazaki can do a good angry shouting voice! It's really noticeable since Shiloh usually sounds so kind and friendly.
Shiloh asks after Lady Blackpearl and how Elazul knew her, but he brushes it off as none of Shiloh's business…which is finally too much for our poor hero, who finally explodes and points out how could it be none of his business when all this time he had been trying to help them. Shiloh probably shouldn't have shouted, but he is right though.
This conversation is easier to understand with rewatching it a second time. Keep in mind that Shiloh was present when Elazul said he didn't know where Blackpearl was in the previous episode. Shiloh knows now that was a lie, and Elazul had deliberately kept the truth from both Pearl and Esmeralda. In restrospect, if Elazul had simply brought Pearl straight to Diana, they could have learned the truth of the Jumi's plight much sooner, and maybe even saved helped protect Esmeralda.
Despite everything, Elazul still cannot bring himself to reveal how he knows Blackpearl, so he tries to deflect Shiloh by accusing him of possibly being an enemy to Jumi, like Serafina. Okay, so Elazul is a bit delirious from being injured, and he still hasn't seen Sandra'a disguises in action so he is still suspicious of Serafina. But, uh, the only reason Elazul and Pearl are still alive is because Shiloh keeps helping them out, so that was a stupid blow to do.
Shiloh gets mad of course, but you can tell it's still because he's so concerned for Elazul, and his worries are just proven when our local prickly Jumi boy collapses, again.
Shiloh asks Bud and Lisa to take care of Elazul, which does make me laugh a bit. Sheesh, Shiloh, maybe don't dump a wounded stranger into your (often abandoned) kids' care? And then he goes to Trent's branches to think for a while. At the time of watching it feels a bit weird as why Shiloh did that, but writing this review now, Shiloh does need to cool down too and it may be more helpful to not be there when Elazul wakes up since they had just been fighting.
I suppose Elazul's words did remind Shiloh of something, since he says Serafina's name while contemplating. I guess it just sank in that he hadn't seen her since, and they still don't know what's up with her.
The next morning, Elazul is gone, because he's a very stubborn rock boy, and Bud and Lisa tell Shiloh so. It's cute that Bud asks if Shiloh hates Elazul for what happened, but Shiloh says that isn't the case, and he is in fact going to look for him. Before he goes, it's nice bit of continuity that he tells Bud and Lisa about Valerie going to come by.
Duelle tells Shiloh that Elazul was heading to Leires, and so goes there - just in time to catch Elazul from face planting yet again. Shiloh's been catching a lot of Jumi, heh. Elazul then reminds Shiloh this isn't his business, but Shiloh in turn reminds him that it is his choice to keep on helping out. And so it's the quest for Two Pearls in the next episode!
This episode has a loooot going on that makes better sense if you take into consideration previous episodes. It's still a bit janky to me compared to previous episodes, but rewatching it help makes better sense! So I recommend watching this episode twice. I hope we get to see Serafina soon, though. I wonder if she'll be in the next one?

How does it go once Volo gets to the cave he plans on stashing MC in? Does he immediately release them or does he keep them in the bag for a bit? Is he doing this just for the Plates or something else? I'm surprisingly into the story now, I gotta know what happens to Volo and his bag full of feral gremlin MC!
I wasn’t expecting y’all to like feral gremlin mc this much! I’ll do my best.
Gonna be safe and say 🔞18+🔞 for the violence.
Warnings once more! : this particular one while also containing spoilers for legends Arceus, it does contain threats and violence, gremlin mc is not happy about this and is making it known, like, I’m putting this under keep reading cause of it.
Asks are open!
-
-
You ended up in the cobalt coastlands, you’re only knowledge on that is this is the turn back cave where you caught Garitina, unfortunately you’re still stuck, you make a mental note of the cave, he picked a good one, no one ever comes this way as it’s surrounded by nothing but aggressive Pokémon from all sides and the only way up here is with sneasler, speaking of which.
“How the hell did your ass get us up here?”
Volo glares at his bag, he refuses to let you out of it “if you must know Togekiss.”
“Oh so not only do you manipulate people you manipulate innocent pokemon, gotcha.”
The merchant sighs “it’s not a big deal-“ you cut him off.
“You know what else isn’t a big deal? Your life.”
You yelp when his foot collides with your side.
“If you’d just give me what I want this wouldn’t be happening! You could still running around for your precious ‘professor dad.’” His voice goes high pitched an nasally, mocking your words “if you just gave me the plates!”
“I’d rather swallow a Jean jacket and put my left tity in a panini press, you built like an insecurity having ass!”
Another pained yelp escapes you as he kicks again.
“You have got to be the most stubborn dense ass I’ve ever had the misfortune of meeting! I use to think there had to be a reason Arceus chose you but now I see even a god can make a mistake!”
“Oh wow how original, tell me did you think of that one all by your little self?”
Volo yells in frustration, he is your captor, you are basically tied up, you can’t do anything other than make noise, but the words you say insight rage, malice even, you bring so many emotions to him, too many in fact, he doesn’t like it, he has a mission, get the plates, and overthrow Arceus, maybe steal your Pokémon while he is at it though he is against that, your Pokémon are fiercely loyal to you, and he is positive the only reason they are out is the sticky glob got on your pokeballs, keeping them shut.
He notices you’ve been quiet, too quiet for his liking, you’ve been sassing him the entire way here, he waits for a good twenty minutes before checking on you, he doesn’t know where you’re keeping the plates so he needs you alive to at least tell him.
He undoes one strap and cautiously lifts the flap up, only to scream on your mouth is latched onto his hand, the side of his thumb and hand currently in your mouth, your teeth sinking into his flesh, determined to draw blood, which you do, his rush to get you off only draws more before he can get stable and slam his foot into your stomach, causing you to let go.
Your half way out of his backpack now, both of you hyperventilating, but yours has a pained wheeze to it, his stone cold grey eyes glare at you while he patches himself up, hissing in pain, you left decent teeth marks in his skin, he has a feeling it’ll scar over.
“If there had to be one thing I like about you, it’s your will and lack of self preservation, you honestly don’t care if you live or die and the things you do and get done because of it are astonishing, unfortunately you’re such a waste of good potential that it doesn’t matter.”
You snort “like the man with raging mommy issues and a god complex has room too talk.”
He was just about to say something when you open your mouth again.
“Do you yell at me cause you think that’ll get me to listen? Did you mom never hear you as a child?…haha oops, myyyy baaaad.”
Volo can’t take it anymore, grabbing you by your now bruised throat.
“I’m going to gag you if you say one more thing, and then after that I’m taking you outside this cave and drowning you in the fucking pond, do you understand me.”
You had the perfect come back, but the pain and lack of air was making you lose consciousness, and you were out like a light.
Volo drops you none too gentle, he checks your person, looking in every last pocket he can find and there isn’t a single plate on you, you must keep them somewhere else, but where?
You wake up sometime later, the sunlight faintly shining through, you promised Lian you’d go ore hunting with him today, you think you already missed training with Ingo, he always wanted to do that early….Rei did say he wanted to join you two today, he has been getting better at battling.
You done move, you don’t have the energy to, everything hurts, but you don’t want that bastard to notice your pain, Volo use to be a friend, you thought he was anyways, you two had inside jokes from how often you two would spend time together and you happily listened to his rambles about history and lore, he looked so happy then.
So why the betrayal? You just wanted to…what did you even want to do? Go back to your time to your friends and family? But you had those here too, you’d miss them so much, but Volo is a loose canon at this point, you don’t know what he truly wants now, sure the plates but to do what?
“Are you awake? Good, here.” Speak of the devil, he throws an oran berry right next to your face.
“I didn’t poison it.” He jests.
“With the way this kidnapping is going I was hoping you did.” You lean over and start nibbling on it.
“Why can’t you let me do this one thing, if I could just meet Arceus this wouldn’t be an issue.”
“Cause you’ll probably destroy the world, I can’t really have that considering I live here too.”
“Where do you even keep them? I didn’t find them on you.”
You snort “yeah I don’t carry them with me, surprise.”
To your credit he actually does “why not?”
“Because I already carry so much, ‘sides I have no use for them right now, so why carry dead weight.” You roll your eyes.
“You know I can-“
“If you say ‘kill you’ I’m going to scream cause you could’ve from the start, if you wanted to you would’ve already, so what’s stopping you?” You stare at him, his eyes widened.
He looks so taken aback, did you hit a nerve? You don’t know cause he stands up and leaves, leaving his Arcanine and Lucario to guard you.
You wonder why the sudden departure, why hadn’t he killed you? You don’t carry the plates, those are back at your house in your chest, and it’s not like he can waltz into the village anymore, everyone knows he isn’t allowed in anymore, so what’s the hold up?
You feel his Arcanine lay down next to you, you tear up a bit, the sweet dog would do this when you camped with Volo, for a serious dog he was cuddly, you miss the old times, Lucario stays near the entrance but far enough in to stay hide, ears twitching every so often.
You can only hope this will be over soon before you fall asleep in the warmth of the large dog.

Hello! It's been a while, I hope things are okay on your end.
I had the recent realization that Mewtwo really shouldn't have a mega form, if we go by the lore we are given. Like how on earth is it possible for an artificial pokemon to mega evolve? Let alone one that was created thousands of years after Rayquaza broke the meteor ( if I'm remembering correctly). My best bet is if the mega stones themselves were artificially created to compliment Mewtwo. Which is super scary to think about: they are people out there who just know how to artificially create a mega stone and have it act like the real thing. You can't tell me there's a black market for those things.
It's either the above, or Mewtwo just wanted to prove the haters wrong lmao. I like to believe they run on spite hgvhvgvgvcg.
Hi there ihopethisendswell! I'm doing well just stressing about this test I have to take in a few days. But yeah you're right it doesn't make sense that Mewtwo would have a mega evolution given what we know canonically about how mega stones were created (which granted isn't much). That being said Mewtwo isn't the only artificial Pokemon to have a gimmick. Garbodor is an artificial Pokemon as well according to Bulbapedia and it's one of the few Pokemon to have the Gigantamax factor. Also, Kantonian Voltorb and electrode are stated to be artificial Pokemon yet as of Legends we know there were Hisuian Variants as well. Part of me thinks that Megas and their concept were supposed to be greatly expanded upon but they decided to do generational gimmicks and that got nerfed which probably would've explained how Mewtwo got a mega but also likely gave megas to other artificial Pokemon.
To your point about an artificial mega stone, I could definitely see that being the case especially given Mewtwo's origins. Mewtwo was already created to be the world's strongest Pokemon and giving it access to a potentially busted form via mega evolution (see Mega Rayquaza) makes a lot of sense canonically. I think the idea of artificial mega stones would've been a great topic for a future game (stares at Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee if had of been a proper Kanto sequel)!
But also I love the idea of Mewtwo creating it's own mega stone out of spite. If Rayquaza can mega-evolve via wishes of humans (and swallowing random meteorites) then Mewtwo can go ahead and make its own just to spite team rocket. And if I'm being honest my personal headcanon is Mewtwo doing this out of spite.

My Favorite Fishing in Video Games Where Fishing is Not Core Game Play
A really awesome surprise for me is always to boot up a game that is full of action and suspense to be introduced to a fishing side activity. I have toiled away at fishing in games for hundreds of hours at least. It has gotten so bad in some instances that my friends have asked me why I haven’t just taken the plunge into real fishing. It’s definitely because that is a lot of work and in real life I don’t catch a fish every 30 seconds. They have also wondered why I don’t just play a fishing simulator like Planet Fishing (Shout out to Planet Fishing that’s a great game). And that’s where I have to think for a while. Fishing while you have better things to do like save the world is very special. You aren’t fishing because it’s the objective of the game or because that’s why you are there, you are fishing because it’s fun and maybe you need a break to swing a fishing rod instead of a sword. And then you can stop, and get back to fighting or whatever the rest of the game entails. Below are games that have fishing in them for mostly no reason at all. I have shamelessly spent way to long with my bait in these waters and absolutely loved every second of it and I hope that you (the reader) can find a lot of relaxation in these waters as well.
Pokemon Series
Since the very first Pokemon game there has been fishing. You get the old rod from some guy and then you are free to fish up as many goldfishes that you want hoping that one of them will grow up to be a 21 foot tall dragon. Pokemon has combined their fishing with their main game play and makes you at least start a battle with the fish you drag onto shore. Now fishing in Pokemon is pretty subpar mainly because a single Pokemon game hasn’t really been known to have more than a handful of Pokemon that you can fish for. Also if you are looking for a strong water type Pokemon you could do a lot better than fishing for it. Typically a Pokemon player will fish about 5-10 times total. And although fishing for Pokemon isn’t all that great it has been in every game for over 20 years and that is pretty impressive. It’s a small detail that makes the world of Pokemon feel like a real world of wild creatures.
Sonic Adventure DX
In Sonic Adventure DX you are given the choice to play as a lot of different characters, one of which is named Big the Cat. Most of the characters are combat characters that rely on speed and attacks to get through levels, some even wielding rocket launchers and extremely oversized hammers. However when you start the story of Big the Cat you are thrown in a completely opposite direction. Big the Cat is a giant purple cat who lives in the jungle with his best friend Froggy. Froggy accidentally swallows one of the most powerful objects in the Sonic universe and Big the Cat must chase him all over the world trying to fish him out of where he is hiding so that he can eject the Chaos Emerald out of him and they can return to their life in the jungle. The fishing mechanics in this game actually are really good and this is probably because Sega had just put out a series of mildly successful Bass fishing games before releasing this game. Either way its absolutely hilarious that Big the Cat gets to defeat Chaos 6 right before Super Sonic has his showdown with Chaos Perfect.
Final Fantasy XV
In Final Fantasy XV you play as Noctis and his favorite hobby is fishing. When I first played this game I sped through it and never fished once and reached the end of the game never indulging Noctis in his hobby. When I replayed Final Fantasy XV I fished for 50 hours and then ejected the disc from my console. The fishing in Final Fantasy XV is surprisingly deep with a lot of the vendors supporting what you could call a fishing road trip. In the game it is extremely dangerous to be out at night so I would plan day trips to lakes to maximize the amount of fishing I would get to do. I would prepare days in advance to make sure I could afford the trip and that I had enough supplies to both protect myself at the lake and have enough supplies to last the whole day. Final Fantasy XV really is a game about getting really distracted and fishing is probably its best distraction. My days on the lake were the perfect balance of peaceful and rewarding, this game offers an awesome reward of well planned trips and a good haul of fish.
Final Fantasy XIV Online
Final Fantasy XIV is the only game I have ever played where the fishing played exactly like its combat. When you are fighting enemies in a dungeon in FFXIV you are constantly adding buffs, landing hits, using consumables, and managing resource bars. When you are fishing in FFXIV you are constantly adding buffs, landing hits, using consumables, and managing resource bars. Note you are doing so at a much more leisurely and less life threatening pace but you are still doing it. I never maxed out the fisher class but I got it into the expansion content which was a really long and relaxing experience. Yet another Final Fantasy title where the real meat of the game is in getting distracted. When you fish you also sell on a player market that fluctuates based on market price just like real fish. You get the relaxing fishing side of the game and also an aggressive economic number crunching side as well. I spent way too long with a real pen and paper deciding how much I should sell for on any particular day and bossing around my two cat girl employees. The MMO aspect of the game adds so much to what you would expect to be a very solitary experience.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Have you ever gone fishing for hours to receive an empty bottle? That is exactly what kick started my addiction to fishing in Twilight Princess. An empty bottle in Twilight Princess means another way to heal yourself, another way to add oil to a lantern, another way to carry useless water around. The only way to get the 4th bottle in the game is to go to a dedicated fishing spot and fish until you pulled it out of the pond. The actual fishing is pretty weird, it involves motion controls which I still am not entirely sure what they do or how to properly use them but it is really fun to hold the pole in gyroscope and set the lure in the water waiting for fish to come get a nibble. Although the physics with the water make it difficult to see if you have actually gotten a bite or not it still is enjoyable the other 85% of the time it works.
Stardew Valley
So this one is at the top of every other “fishing in games” list and there is a big reason for that. It’s really good. I think in my first Stardew Valley farm I gave up farming entirely and fished all day every day and stopped to buy food to replenish my energy and go back at it. I really didn’t care about getting rich or making enough money to expand the farm or get to know everyone I actually spent about 50 hours just fishing. The fishing takes some skill and a pretty keen eye but the random jerks of the fish and the rhythm of the game play are so fun to try to master. It’s a part of Stardew Valley that I felt like I was continuously improving on as time went on and it was really fun. I mean I don’t recommend it because you’ll end up moderately poor but it was really fun.
Fantasy Life
Fantasy Life offers you 12 potential jobs, you could be a brilliant blacksmith or a devious potions maker, a lumberjack or a knight, a hunter or a seamstress. However your inner dad is calling and you decide you want to play through a fantasy RPG as a fisherman, hell yeah. the story is relatively short so you can quickly unlock a lot of locales to fish at and there is a manageable economy system that lets you deal in fish in advantageous ways. You can even pick up cooking on the side and make fancy dinners and sell the fish for higher you can do that as well. Fantasy Life is like a clever mix between Animal Crossing and Final Fantasy XIV and it kind of succeeds and falls short of it. The fishing also takes a good amount of skill and rhythmic approach to master so it doesn’t get boring almost at all until you have cleared the game.
Maple Story 2
Maple Story 2 is one of the most expressive and cutest games that I have ever played. And the fishing is no different, its all about style. The fishing in Maple Story 2 is monotonous and can get old but you do it for the chibi clout. Because much like the rest of the game you can look however you want and do whatever you want and sometimes you just feel like kicking back and throwing lure in the water at the beach. I never got super into the fishing in this game but it won me over with its adorable design and stylish atmosphere.
Animal Crossing Series
Of course I had to include the most popular game right now. Animal Crossing has become something of a connection between people when we can’t leave the house. A thing we all have in common on social media and with our friends. My first experience with Animal Crossing really starts with New Horizons and I was completely blown away. The fishing isn’t super complex or difficult but the range of what you can pull out of the water and what you can do with it is absolutely breathtaking. For a game about cartoon people living with humanoid cartoon animals the fish looking photo realistic. And the museum where they can be kept is stunning. The museum looks like it was designed to capture the feel of being in a museum and matches the design of all the great real life aquariums and observatories. Although it is a bit frustrating when your rod breaks it is easy enough to make one (or worst case buy one) to get your bait back in the water.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Tell me I’m wrong, you can’t. Isabelle getting added to Smash brought a very powerful fishing move that isn’t practical all the time but is really funny. Wouldn’t recommend this game if you are looking to relax and fish but I do recommend hooking your friend with a fish hook and send them flying off screen if you had to.
Minecraft
I have a very special role in Minecraft when I join a friends server. A role that I assign to myself. While everyone is off getting awesome swords, spelunking for diamonds, and exploring the infinite landscape, I build a small wooden shack and I set up a farm with an irrigation canal and start fishing. A steady supply of food is necessary and while I’m hanging out with my friends in a server I’m happy to be the one to provide it. The fishing in this game is probably the slowest of all the ones on this list but is the most useful. just throwing the fish in the oven creates food that can help keep you and your companions alive for a long time. I think I definitely have my limits with Minecraft fishing and I couldn’t do it for hours on end it is rewarding to set up shop and find a nice place to settle down for a few hours to fish.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
This is the only Tactical RPG in this post. Fire Emblem: Three Houses has sections between combat where you can go and talk to your students and do other activities. We aren’t here to discuss other activities though we are here for the fishing. The fishing allows you to catch fish for some reason that I’m sure is good but never intrigued me enough to learn. All I know about the fishing in Fire Emblem: Three Houses is that it’s fun. I started to bust through combat just so that I could get back to fishing. The funniest part about this one is that the fish has a health bar. Pressing the A button at the exact moment finds a way to become easier and still find ways to mess you up. Either way, I’m not that interested in tactical RPGs but I heard there was fishing in this game so I had to play it and it was worth it.
Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
In Jak & Daxter, Daxter gets turned into a small animal by dark eco while exploring a dangerous island off the shore of his home with his best friend Jak. To get back to the island to investigate, the pair have to borrow a boat owned by a fisherman who is troubled by an invasive species of poisonous eel that is ruining his haul. He asks Jak to catch fish for him without catching any eels. This fishing mini game can only be done once but it is going to either be something you think is very unique or a huge waste of time. All I’ll say is that the sound that the fish makes when it goes into the net is absolutely a reward in itself it is so satisfying. But anyways, more intense than some other options here but get it done so you can get back to absorbing eco powers and jumping on stuff.
Shovel Knight
Shovel Knight is a 2D action platformer but you can also fish. And you fish for the best kind of fish, money. You can get some other stuff too like health pickups and magic replenishers but we know what you want. You see that little glint and you pop out the fishing rod and pull out those money bags. If you are devoted enough you can even get a surprise from the Troupple King (long live his highness) if you fish out the right stuff. I don’t even know if I fished all that much when I played Shovel Knight but it’s hilarious that you can.
NieR: Automata
I did not play a lot of NieR and that’s because I was fishing. I don’t know why all I did was fish but you throw your little robot in the pond and you lean on a magical stool so honestly it was good enough for me.
Club Penguin
If you know then you know. In hind sight there really wasn’t a whole lot to do in Club Penguin but this mini game really messed me up. You basically get to move up and down, catching fish and avoiding trash and other hazards. Basically trying to do this and catch as much fish as possible to avoid having to ask your parents for real money to pay for snacks to feed a virtual ball of fluff with eyeballs. I don’t really remember how challenging it really was but I remember getting decently high scores to about like 100 fish per round so I guess it was pretty easy if I could do that at age 10.
Rune Factory 4
I’m gonna be very honest about this one and say that the fishing in Rune Factory 4 is basically just Animal Crossing fishing but more anime. The fish react to the pole the same, the fish almost look the same, and the buttons to respond are the same. What makes this one special is where you can take it. You can fish in the little moat in town, in the lake, in a dungeon full of monsters, in a lake that is eternally the season fall, anywhere. You are constricted by the boundaries of Stardew Valley and that is how much energy you have and how much time you have in the day. It’s still fun to fish but I wish that they had used their fun fantasy setting to give the ability to fish up some cool made up fish instead of strictly things that exist in real life.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Ok, diving, fishing, same thing. Diving in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is just fishing with your whole body. It works a lot in the same way as Pokemon where you fish up monsters to fight and get the rewards from them. It is a completely optional activity however if you decide to undertake the grind of scavenging in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 then you will never hurt for money ever again. It makes my wonder why Rex stopped being a salvager to do odd jobs because this was PROFITABLE. The main incentive is that there are spots that spawn a certain enemy that drop cores. Cores are like gacha or loot boxes that contain new anime girl partners that deal huge damage in fights. They even have their own side quests and story lines. I spent maybe 30 hours grinding before giving up on this game and while it does become tiresome I really enjoyed the random rewards of possibly getting a new companion or a really cool weapon.
It’s been tossed around that every great RPG has fishing in it. I won’t argue that point but a lot of great RPGs certainly do have fishing in them. Everyone needs a break sometimes and fishing is the perfect activity to remind us to stop and take that break. Even games can get long and without these distractions it might be so much harder to complete these harrowing tasks. Don’t forget to take breaks and just enjoy the sound of the water every once in a while because there’s no rush playing video games.
Honorable Mentions:
Kingdom Hearts: Sora fishing with his bare hands on Destiny Island
Persona 4: Weird aqueduct fishing
Persona 5: Marina fishing life
Sea of Thieves: A pirates life for me

How Byron and the Spirt of the Desert met
For the lovely anon who gave me that awesome writing
Byron barely 19, newly appointed gym leader of the steel type gym, and on his first trip out of region all the way to Hoenn. They were looking for rare minerals in the desert, but the major goal was to document how the minerals effected the local pokemon population.
Byron wasn't much of a scientist, he was a miner at heart, but he did enjoy the science behind things even if it confused him at some parts. He was basically the muscle on the trip, with his battle harden pokemon, and his own muscles. He was in charge of keeping the local pokemon population safe, while they worked. He was also in charge of fighting off poachers, a lot were seen in the desert and nobody could figure out why, except for the legend of the Spirit of the Desert.
He enjoyed myths and legends as much as the next guy, but he knew there was always some truth behind it. He was excited to find out what was truth behind it.
......
The desert was beautiful, and Byron couldn't stop being in awe over it. Of course he was sweating constantly, but that's because he is from Sinnoh and this was an actual desert. He however got his own base camp set up and started on surveying the area.
Two suspicious men were looming about at the edge of his camp, well he thinks they are men they are bundled up obscuring every feature. Before he had time to react they sent put two salamaces and instructed them to burn down his camp.
Ah they were poachers he was warned about there leave no witnesses policy. He immeditally released his steelix for a battle. The battle was long and hard, they ended trying to attack him instead of his pokemon.
They managed to hit him with a flamethrower. That was going to be a nasty burn on his leg but he couldn't give up. His job was to protect the area save the local pokemon help with research he couldn't just give up.
What neither of them could expect was a hoard of flygon and a tall stunning woman commanding them easily take out the poachers and approach Byron as he fell to the ground in pain.
"You were defending your camp?" The woman leans over in a kimono that was too small fir her giant frame.
"Actually trying to defend the local pokemon." He grips his leg as the adrenaline was slowly leaving and pain look its place. "I'm from Sinnoh on a research party, I'm just the muscle of the group."
She laughs making Byron blush. "You are a strange man aren't you Byron?"
"I guess, uh thank you for the help ma'am." He forces himself to get up. "I need to bandge myself up with what remains of my tent, again thank you." He face was still red and he didn't want to embarrass himself further by talking himself into a hole in front of this beautiful woman.
She follows behind Byron humming. "Let me help you as thanks for protecting the pokemon here."
Byron's face went several shades darker red as he waves his hands frantically. "No no no its ok I've bandaged myself before you don't have to worry yourself about it."
She chuckles this human was adorable, and she wanted to know more about him. "Nonsense let me help you, uh" humans have names and she doesn't have one. "Yoi can call me Spirit." Her face was red why did she say that, this human was influencing her maybe it was because he was kind.
"Spirit... OK alright you can help uh just be careful the winds are picking up and I don't need you to get caught in a sandstorm." Byron says opening his tent for her. "Come inside this should protect you, I mean us sorry."
Oh fuck he was adorable. She swallowed her pride of thriving in sandstorms and accepted going into the tent with Byron. "You are very kind."
"I only want to help someone who helped me right." He face was red as he begun to remove his ruined pants. "I apologize for undressing in front of you Spirit but I need to make sure my wound is clean."
She smiles and helps Byron. "Don't worry I understand."
He gave a startled yelp as she towered over him. "Show me where your supplies is I'll help bandage you up ok."
"Y-yes ma'am I mean Spirit." He just points to the bag with the supplies. She wasn't wearing anything underneath her kimono, and in a desert how was she ok. He was making a fool of himself
She looked down grazing the disinfectant and bandages the injury wasn't too bad it was just a large area. "Don't move so much let me clean it." He looked kind of cute with his blush and embarrassed look. She then quickly went to cleaning, what was she thinking she was just helping this human and then she could leave or she could stay to make sure he was OK. Ok ok she will stay to make sure he is ok nothing more nothing less.
He sighs in relief as the bandage is finished. "Thank you so much, I apologize for keeping you it seems the sandstorm has started outside. It seems you're stuck with me." His face is red as he looks away. "I mean I don't know I can goggles you can use if you really must leave."
She looked down and smiles softly she was fucked. "I'll stay don't worry, uh so what do you do back in Sinnoh?"
Byron smiles making her heart skip a beat as he starts to explain how he just became a gym leader, then describing his pokemon and how much he enjoys caring for them.
Ah she was in deep now

Comfort in Despair: Chapter 22 - Legend of the Void
Leon x F!Reader
Disclaimer: Do not own Pokemon
Summary:
Galar is rich in folklore and tales of the supernatural.
As a Pokemon Researcher who specialises in ghost types, this is a great opportunity for you to investigate and learn more about the paranormal.
Along the way, you meet Leon (in the most awkward way possible) who becomes embroiled in your adventures.
^ Basically this story is about ghosts :/
NOTE: I can’t really believe I'm at Chapter 22... I know it doesn’t seem too long but I feel like it is lol. Here’s when things get a bit science-fiction-y and also more to do with cosmology.
Rating: General/Teen
@marydragneell here is the latest update
Legend of the Void
…
…
[1. Whatever begins to exist has a cause.
2. The universe began to exist.
3. Therefore, the universe has a cause (which was itself not caused).

“I’m home.”
“Welcome back!”
Upon your return to Wedgehurst, Sonia and Magnolia, Runerigus and Cutiefly are in the conservatory enjoying tea. You greet everyone, share an embrace and Cutiefly dives for your hair, burrowing himself under your locks.
“Would you like some tea, dear?” Magnolia asks, lifting up an empty cup.
“Yes please.”
She smiles and begins to wander into the kitchen.
“Ah, wait – professor, I can do it myself-“
“It’s okay, come sit,” Sonia says, grabbing your arm and pulling you into the empty seat beside her. “Where’d you go last night?”
“Oh, I met up with Leon,” you reply nonchalantly. “We’re together.”
Her jaw drops. “You’re what??”
“Sorry, I should’ve told you earlier. I didn’t really know what to say, nothing was official.”
Sonia blinks wide-eyed for a moment before she slaps a perfectly manicured hand over her mouth. Emitting a muffled squeal of glee, she proceeds to throw her arms around you, enveloping you into a tight hug.
“I knew there was something between you two but I didn't think -- oh, never mind, I’m so happy for you!” she exclaims, and you smile awkwardly, gently placing your hand over her arm.
“Thanks, I, um…I have a favour to ask of you though.”
“What is it?”
“I need you to-“
Unfortunately you’re interrupted when Magnolia returns with your cup of tea. Polteageist floats beside her, having helped with the brewing and when he sees you, you both share a hug.
“Here you are, my dear,” Magnolia says as you accept the cup. It’s piping hot and smells wondrous.
“Thank you, professor.”
“Inspector Graves came by earlier; he told me to give you this,” Magnolia picks up an A4 envelope from the table and hands it to you. “He says they’re accepting new recruits and he wants you to try it out.”
You open it carefully and pull out the contents; it’s a pile of application forms for the police academy recruitment scheme. “Oh…” you mutter, “thanks, I’ll have a look at it later.”
“Can I tell her?” Sonia says giddily.
“What?? No, it’s too early!” you yelp.
"But-"
“Girls, what’s going on?” Magnolia demands, swapping glances between you and Sonia.
“N-nothing, professor.”
“Let’s go upstairs,” Sonia says and before you can reply, she tugs on your arm and pulls you up and off the couch, guiding you to the staircase.
Magnolia watches as you both scurry away and out of sight before she slides into a plush seat beside the stone pokemon who has been enjoying his cup of tea silently, holding the floral teacup daintily in his shadowy hands.
“Would you like some more Darjeeling, Runerigus?” she asks, lifting up the teapot.
He nods and she empties some into his little cup before she fills her own; they exchange smiles as they take a sip at the same time.
...
Upstairs, Sonia closes the door behind her and joins you on the bed, sitting cross-legged and clutching your arm.
“So! Tell me everything. I want all the details. All of them.”
You recall last night’s events though you do omit some information, namely the dream. You feel bad for not telling her there was something between you and Leon, especially the time when you had almost kissed at the hospital and when he brought you flowers, but she doesn't appear nonplussed and nods to herself, hand under her chin.
“That’s typical of him,” she says with a giggle before she sighs and flexes her hands together, smiling to herself, "I've known Leon since we were kids so I'm really happy for him. It's so strange; you've been here for a few years and you kept missing him and he kept missing you...and even when gran and I wanted you to meet him, you were always busy or away investigating so you never got the chance and neither did he...but then this happens and now you're together!!! You were always closeby but you never even got the chance to see each other...oh, I don't know, but I was always hoping for you to meet; I knew you two would hit it off."
"Yeah, I guess we wasted the years."
"Nooo, that's not what I meant at all; it's what people say 'when it's supposed to happen, it happens'," she replies, and you laugh. “So…you’ve kissed, right? You must have. How was it? What was it like to kiss the Champion of Galar?”
Your cheeks grow pink. You've never really spoken to Sonia about boys before, but this is rather refreshing.
“...Well, it was really nice,” you mumble, throwing your glance down to fiddle with the hem of your sleeve. You’re not sure whether to tell Sonia that he was really shy and nervous.
“Oh, come on! Tell me bit a lot more than that!” she whines, pouting.
“I’m serious. It was fine, it was really nice. A bit wet?”
Sonia blows some hair from her face and looks at her nails. “Of course it was wet, it was a kiss. Fine, you don’t wanna tell me.”
"We’re going to practice more-“
Her eyes light up at once. “Oh!”
“And we’re going to meet up again later.”
“Oh.”
“Actually, now there’s two things I need your help with. Leon’s invited me to a party and I need an outfit-“
“I’ll help you!”
You chuckle at her enthusiasm. “And the other things is...well, it’s a little complicated to explain in its entirety but I have a new client; her sister is dead and is about to become an evil spirit – the thing is, she was Miss Motostoke but unfortunately she died and now she wants to participate in the pageant in order to move on so I was thinking we’d set up a fake pageant and I’ll let her possess my body so I would like you to be my hair and makeup artist and the presenter if possible. Don't worry, I'll compile a script for you to follow.”
Sonia gawps at you, wide-eyed.
“So, what do you say?”
“…...Sure?”
“Thanks so much, Sonia!!”
"What's going on?" she asks, and you explain to her the case you're currently working on. She listens intently to your plight and when you're all caught up to speed, she nods once more, armed with far more thorough understanding.
“No problem, I can help you... but are you okay doing this? Is this going to be dangerous? Can’t she move on in a different way?”
“It’ll be fine; I know what I’m doing, don’t worry.”
“Where are you going to hold this fake pageant anyway?”
“I was thinking the lab; I could ask Jace to help with the lighting and we could just fix up a curtain or something around upstairs to use as a changing room and cover the rest of the lab with the whiteboards put together. Picture this, we’ll hang some red drapes over them so it looks like the Miss Galar Beauty Pageant stage. I’m not too bothered about the floor. The floor’s fine.”
“…Okay,” she says, tilting her head to the side.
“And I could ask if Leon could be the ‘judge’ again. Maybe ask Volkner…if he’s up for it…We’ll set up some tables in front of the stage for them to sit.”
“You seem to have a plan already," she comments with a sniff.
“I do,” you reply, “I just hope it all works out.”
…
With Sonia’s help secured, your little plan is indeed coming together rather nicely. Your next task is to ask Jace for assistance for lighting and if he can help fix up some curtains and as usual, he’s glad to help in any way, replying to your text message with multiple smiley face emojis.
You also ask him if Volkner would like to be a guest judge and he says he will check with the gym leader.
There’s plenty to do so you head to the lab where you don your white lab coat, put on your reading glasses and begin your investigation.
You’re not sure why you’ve decided to wear the coat but somehow you feel better wearing it today. It's been a while since you put it on.
At your desk, you put Graves’ application forms to the side for the time being and instead, spread out the contents of the folder Frankie had given you and lay out all the documents, namely the newspaper article about Flora’s death and murderer.
You had spent the taxi ride home reading the contents of the folder and now it’s time to display your findings on your trusty whiteboard which you wipe down, grabbing several pens and some magnets in progress.
Taking a step back, you look at the empty board with marker in hand before scribbling down ‘Miss Galar Beauty Pageant Case’ at the very top before underlining it. The pen squeals loudly with each stroke.
“So we have two sisters, Flora and Francesca Warren aka Frankie,” you write their names along with their ages underneath and attach their photos which you printed off earlier.
Frankie’s photo is a school portrait and Flora is a photo you found online from a previous beauty pageant.
Your audience consists of Vulpix, Mimikyu and Rotom who watch you silently as you work whilst Gengar returns with three cups of steaming hot Boltund Dash Coffee on a tray.
“Thanks Gengar,” you utter, taking the cup off him and he grins in response; he raises his own mug and Mimikyu takes her mug off the tray with a shadowy tendril.
The three of you take a sip at the same time.
“That’s a damn good cup of coffee,” you add.
Gengar nods whilst Mimikyu proceeds to devour the entire cup, swallowing it whole into her body.
“No, no, give that back; that mug belongs to Sonia.”
Mimikyu squeaks angrily but you shake your head firmly. With a growl, she navigates a tendril into her mouth and pulls the mug out and settles it atop the desk. You rub your chin, realising Mimikyu must possess hammerspace.
“Right. Let’s get started then. Flora was to compete in this year’s Miss Galar as Miss Motostoke but unfortunately she passed away a few weeks ago. Frankie immediately came home after news of her elder sister’s death. She was attending boarding school in Kanto. Flora is on the verge of becoming an evil spirit unless we do something about it. She haunts her family and Flora believes she will be able to move on if she gets to participate in a beauty pageant which we can reenact in order to satiate her restless spirit. This can be achieved if I let her possess me.”
Gengar lifts his hand up.
“Yes?”
He says, are you sure about this? Are you okay with a ghost possessing you? What about the incident with Edward Rose?
“I understand your concern but I can risk her possessing me. I managed to expel Edward Rose, I’m sure I can expel her too if anything goes wrong.”
Gengar nods a little unsurely and takes another sip of his coffee.
“Now Flora’s murderer is…” you quickly glance at the article you left on your desk, “Her boyfriend, Hank Walthamstow. Also known as ‘Hank the Tank’ to locals.”
As expected, the news article doesn’t provide enough information, namely the nature of her death. The paper articulates that it was a ‘passion of crime’ and that her boyfriend was suspected of the murder and was in custody.
You ask Rotom to commence a quick search online using viable resources but he comes up with nothing; you’re baffled that there is limited information on her murder but it could be due to Rose censoring negative press on the pageant, which was what he did for his art gallery.
The lack of information frustrates you either way and it means you may need to call Graves, which you won’t do because he has already made it quite clear he does not want you to work on cases and you had also agreed to take a break.
“I suppose I have no choice but to speak to Hank Walthamstow in person then," you mutter, the pokemon watching as you pace up and down. "Let’s find out where he’s being held.”
“Bzzrt, good idea,” says Rotom as he runs a quick search. “Bzzzrt, found him! He’zzzz being held at Wyndon Jail!! Unfortunately, it zzzzeemzzz we have mizzzed vizzziting hourzzz.”
“It’s fine, can you arrange a visit for me first thing tomorrow?”
“You got it!"
“Thanks, Rotom.”
With that out of the way, you pin up Hank’s mugshot beside Flora’s picture. He is an attractive but bulky-looking young man with fearful eyes.
After a few hours of further study, your board has taken more distinct shape and form as you begin to link some of the information together, including a full breakdown of what every contestant had to participate in the beauty pageant, most noticeably a Q&A session, swimsuit and dress catwalk and a talent showcase between three to five minutes long.
Furthermore, the actual Miss Galar beauty pageant took two and a half hours. With Flora as a single contestant, you calculate that you should be able to squeeze everything into roughly half an hour.
Tired and wanting a change of scenery, you head upstairs to sit on the floor with your papers in hand against the white railing, allowing your legs to dangle.
During this time, your pokemon have decided to do other things – Mimikyu and Vulpix are getting along together very well and had spent the remaining hours playing together.
Rotom is sleeping whilst Gengar has remained by your side to help you out with the whiteboard and the documents.
Leon had messaged you earlier too, informing you that he will pop by the lab when he’s finished, which inexplicably makes you plough through your work at an increased pace so you are ready when he is due to arrive. It's growing dark outside and the lab is swamped in a tawny orange glow from the sunset outside.
You yawn and your stomach grumbles loudly. You’ve been so wrapped up you did not even eat.
A gentle knock on the door grabs your attention and you peer through the gaps of the railing as the door is pushed open; Leon enters along with Charizard at his heels, glancing around until he looks up and spots you upstairs.
“Leon! Charizard!” you exclaim happily.
“Hey – oh,” he looks stunned by your appearance, “I’ve never seen you wearing your coat before.”
“Oh, this old thing? Yeah, that’s because whenever I wore it outside, people kept staring. It attracts too much attention.”
Leon looks at you from head to toe before his cheeks turn a bit pink. “…It suits you,” he utters and you grin in response, standing up and dusting yourself down. “Anyway, are you ready to go? My mum says she has a surprise for us.”
“Sure, I’m almost ready. Just let me get the rest of my papers….”
Leon and Charizard saunter further into the lab and he heads over to the whiteboard and your desk, peering at a small stack of books in one corner before ultimately realising that you’re the author.
Intrigued, he flips through them one by one and as you approach, he murmurs, “I had no idea that you had written and published several books.”
You hop down the stairs and in front of him, shrugging and with your hands in your pocket, “I don’t like to throw it out there.”
Leon smiles at you appreciatively; he is seeing you in a new light and you ask if he’d like to keep one but he tells you he wants to go to the stores and buy it to further support you.
You didn't quite greet him properly and he's thinking the same as he shyly reaches for your hand and tugs you closer to him, sliding his strong and sturdy arms around your waist and you wrap your arms around his neck, pressing your cheek against the fluffy, soft material of his cape. You close your eyes and sigh quietly, relishing the feel of being in his arms as he buries his nose against the side of your head and into your hair.
"How was work?" you ask, your muffled against the thick fabric.
"Fine," he replies, though he sounds tired.
He proceeds to tell you everything he did whilst you hold onto him tightly, snuggling against his chest and enjoying his warmth and he chuckles before he smooths his hand over your hair and pecks the crown of your head.
Unfortunately, you must pull away and he flings his glance to your whiteboard; it is full of your diagrams, bullet points, blurbs and random scribbles. Some of them are connected together by a red string and pins.
Stunned by the intricacy of it all, Leon asks, “What is all this?”
“It's for the new case; it’s rather complicated."
“How so?”
“Here, let me explain. Have a seat,” you guide him to sit down on an empty chair in front of the board.
As he sits, he crosses his arms over his broad chest and his muscles clench under his tight-fitted champion shirt. You gulp down unconsciously as you receive an eyeful, heading to the board to begin the explanation of your findings.
“The hairclip we discovered last night belongs to a dead beauty pageant contestant called Flora Warren. She was Miss Motostoke. According to the press and police reports, she was murdered by her boyfriend, Hank Walthamstow.”
You witness the wince on Leon’s face yet you continue.
“He’s from Stow-on-side and he trained with Bea as a Blackbelt,” you say, gesturing to his mugshot on the board, “He’s currently being held in Wyndon, pleading not guilty. Flora’s body showed signs of struggle and assault. I don’t have a full autopsy report but it said her exact time of death can’t be determined due to the decomposition of her body when she was found but the good thing is I’ve seen her ghost and from what I can see, she appears as she died. Her neck is broken and she has several grievous injuries on her head.
“Her Rotom phone is missing and it’s believed Hank did away with Rotom as well…which is easier to do than people think. All you need to do is separate a Rotom from its device to incapacitate it. I met her family today - her little sister wants me to help her move on, but I believe the circumstances of her death warrants further investigation so I booked myself in for a visit tomorrow and I’ll speak to Hank myself.
“I’ve also spoken to Flora and she believes she will move on if she gets the chance to compete in the pageant. She doesn’t remember anything about her murder either so for the time being, I’ve proposed we reenact the pageant to appease her spirit. I will let Flora possess me so she can carry out her performances and move on. I’ve already asked Sonia and Jace for help and they’ve agreed.”
It occurs to you that you have never spoken to anyone except Jace and Sonia when it comes to cases and you’re somewhat nervous about Leon’s response to all of this.
The conflict is evident on his face. “...She’s certain she’ll move on if she competes in the pageant?”
You nod.
“This sounds dangerous.”
“I’ll be okay, Leon. Trust me,” you reassure him. “She’s on the verge of becoming an evil spirit. If we don’t act now, it’ll be too late.”
He cocks his head to the side. “Are you certain about this?”
“I know this sounds crazy, but yes I am. Please trust me. I know what I'm doing.”
He nods. “Okay. I trust you and it sounds like you need my help too so I’ll help you in any way I can. Ah, I can be the judge,” he replies with a grin, “I should be free this Saturday evening.”
How amazing is it that Leon will extend his help no matter what the circumstances are?
“Leon! Thank you so much! I could bloody well kiss you right now,” you belt out without thinking twice before you step forwards, placing your hands on each side of his face before pressing your lips against his quickly.
Taken aback by the kiss, Leon blushes furiously but he’s smiling when you pull away.
“Great!” you continue to exclaim to yourself, twirling the cane in your hands happily. “Everything’s all coming together nicely.”
“How do we know if Flora has moved on? And when she’s possessing you, will you still be yourself?”
“If I remember correctly... when Edward Rose possessed me, I was still me. I was self-aware," you mutter, “And I should know if Flora has moved on or not. Hopefully, we’ll able to witness it. Do you have any further questions?”
Leon ponders before he throws a quick glance to one of your books. “I’ve never asked you about your research. I’m sorry, I should’ve asked you earlier..."
You smile widely, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. “It’s okay, I don’t mind. What would you like to know?”
“What kind of research have you conducted regarding the spirit world?”
“Excellent question. Allow me to elaborate.”
Swapping the cane for a marker pen, you switch the board to the other side where it is clean and blank.
“It’s known that we occupy a three dimensional space,” you say as you draw various lines messily on the board, “dimensions are simply the different facets of what we perceive to be reality. However, it is widely theoreticized that there are more dimensions, either within these or in between these or even outside of these.
"The possibilities are simply endless, but this also means that across these millions of universes, there is a singular universe which has remained constant and consistent across all of these since the creation of the universe.”
Leon continues to watch as you feverishly draw on the board, drawing various overlapping circles along with arrows going right and left and back again, crossing over each other.
“And this singular, consistent universe is known as the spirit world, or ghost world, land of the dead, the great beyond, take your pick,” you mutter, “it’s another dimension that solely exists outside of time and space and has remained unchanged and unaffected for eons. It’s where spirits and ghost pokemon reside and they can freely travel back and forth between their world and our world. Unlike our universe, separate universes cannot be branched off from this one. It will always remain as one, singular spirit world.
“However, our ability to comprehend it is simply beyond our mental capacity. Does this mean heaven and hell does not exist? Not really, the spirit world could be a form of limbo or purgatory. So you’re probably thinking ‘what does this all mean?’, ‘what does this world look like’ and ‘who created it’?? Well, these are certainly great questions and I myself haven’t seen what the spirit world looks like because Gengar once informed me one had to be dead in order to get there but I’ve seen a portal before.”
“Where?”
“In the basement of my old house. My dad researched on communication between the spirit world and our world. He discovered there's many forms. Ghost pokemon, for example, are a source of communication. They're pretty much bridges between our world and theirs but there's still a lot we don't know about them. My dad also discovered the spirit world can receive and transmit communication in the form of binary or morse code but we never figured out the origins of the transmissions-“
Leon waits for you to finish, but you grow silent.
“...Anyway, the answer as to who or what created it, Ezra told me it was created when the universe was created...which was probably fourteen billion years ago, maybe more, but that’s another can of Weedles for another day.”
"What about Arceus?"
"Ezra says it wasn't Arceus. It was before Arceus."
"The legends say there was a void before Arceus."
"Well, yes, but who or what created the void, thus creating Arceus? Who is the creator of Arceus?"
"...The void?"
"Okay, but if I go back to my previous point, why was there even a void in the first place? And where did the void come from? I could dive into quantum physics and talk about the Big Bang Theory but scientists are still asking the question, 'what was the absolute beginning', 'was there something before it'?"
“I think people are quite content not thinking about that, or knowing in general," Leon replies, placing a hand under his chin in thought, "they’re rather content with the legend of the void.”
"That's what they teach kids in schools, surely there must be more."
Leon looks confused and you finish with a heavy inhale and an equally ragged exhale; your head is beginning to throb, your vision growing dim. Exhausted, your body no longer seems to obey you and you start to sway on your spot until your legs give way.
Leon rushes forwards and catches you in his arms, sweeping you up.
“Hey, are you okay? Take it easy…” he murmurs your name soothingly whilst you deliriously moan and mumble for him under your breath, “You need to rest.”
You shake your head weakly as he applies his palm over your forehead. Luckily, you’re not coming down with something.
“Have you had anything to drink?”
“Yeah…coffee and tea.”
“And when’s the last time you ate?” he asks as he scoops an arm under the back of your knees whilst his other arm remains firm around your shoulder; he effortlessly lifts you up bridal style and carries you towards the direction of the couch.
“I…I think it was this morning…when we were camping…before we left to watch the sunrise…” you croak out sluggishly.
His eyes widen; that was more than twelve hours ago. He shakes his head. This simply won’t do. Once he’s arrived at the couch, he seats himself down and props you up in his arms, letting you rest comfortably against him.
Leon slips off his cloak before he lets go of you briefly to drape the cloak over your body and bundle you up. The cape is so nice and cosy. As the thick fluff of his cape tickles the base of your nose, you unconsciously rub your cheek against it. You sigh contentedly and let yourself sink against the rich, soft material as he carefully wraps you inside before he settles his arms around you once more and rests his chin atop your head.
He glances around the lab or so and the lab descends into silence for a second time; he sits with you for a few minutes or so until you stir and reopen your eyes.
“How’re you feeling?” he asks.
“Nmm…I’m fine…let’s go…your mum’s waiting…can’t afford to waste any more time,” you mutter, and he nods.
Releasing you, you carefully slide out of his hold and stand to stretch whilst Leon reattaches his cape back over his shoulders. You recall your pokemon and swapping your white coat for a warmer one, you join Leon at the door after ensuring the lab is properly closed up before locking up.
It’s dark outside and Leon offers you his hand.
Together, you make your way down the path, walking close, shoulders bumping. He’ll look at you and when you look at him, he’ll smile and squeeze your fingers.
“I told Sonia we’re together," you blurt out.
“Oh...how’d she take it?”
“She was really happy for us.”
Leon goes pink in response.
“I haven’t told Jace yet. I messaged Graves earlier. I don’t know how he will react.”
“…I haven’t told Raihan yet,” Leon confesses, “he's the gym leader of Hammerlocke."
"Oh."
"We're good friends and he’s always asking me to go on a double date with him and his girlfriend.”
“You can go now."
"Ah, yes, if you want."
Once you arrive at Leon’s house, the outdoor lights are switched off which you find strange; the front door opens and his mother and Hop greet you at the doorway, waving happily.
“Welcome home!!!” they cheer.
Leon’s mum is dressed in a chef’s outfit whilst Hop is wearing a bartender’s uniform, complete with bowtie. He tosses some confetti and blows into a kazoo whilst Wooloo bleats loudly by his heels.
“Mum…Hop, what’s going on?” Leon asks, bewildered.
“We’ve prepared a nice dinner for you!” Leon’s mother exclaims and she quickly hauls you both inside and slams the door shut. “You two must be starving.”
You and Leon exchange glances before he grins widely and you let out a chuckle under your breath.
“I’ll be your chef today and the Hop-meister will be your maître d’.” Leon’s mum adds with a grin.
“May I take your coat, ma’am?” Hop asks, with his arm out.
“Oh, Hop,” you squeak out, whilst Leon looks a little embarrassed. His mother merely winks at him however, so it’s best to play along with their little skit and you remove your coat. “Thank you.”
Hop gathers your coat and turns to Leon next, “And may I take your cape, sir?”
“Um…okay, thanks,” Leon removes his cape and hands it to his brother who proceeds to scurry to the coat rack with Wooloo bounding after him.
“Unfortunately, dinner won’t be ready for another ten minutes. I do apologise for the wait but I will send your maître d’ to get you when it is ready,” Leon’s mum says and she grabs Hop and they return to the kitchen, leaving you and Leon alone.
With a smile, Leon nudges his head to the stairs. “I have something to show you.”
Slipping your hand into his, you both scale the staircase and he follows the signs to his room; once inside, he flicks on the light and you move to sit on the bed. His room hasn't changed a bit; it looks exactly the same as last time.
He heads to his closet, opening the doors to reveal a hanger that’s holding up a red coat with a black lapel, gold buttons and cuffs. There are also a pair of pale light trousers and black riding boots to complete the look.
“This is what I’m wearing to the party,” he says as you stand up and join his side.
“It's lovely. I should wear something that matches this then,” you utter and an image of a wine red dress with black heels springs in your mind. Maybe you could complete it by fastening a white corsage?
Leon blushes. “Um, yes, but it’s entirely up to you.”
“I still don’t know how to dance though.”
“Let’s practice now. Give me your hand.”
You feel anxious as you slip your hand into his; he holds it firmly then slips his other hand over your waist. You're standing very close together and you throw your glance around, wondering if there’s enough room in general and when you look at him, you notice he hasn’t looked away from you, his gaze pinned on your form.
“I’ll lead, starting with my left foot, so you should step back with your right,” he instructs, and you nod.
He steps forwards and you move backwards.
“That’s one step. Now I’ll step forwards with my right foot and you should step back with your left.”
You nod once more and you both complete the next step as he had outlined. Leon moves onto the third step and so forth. Soon, you have completed the simple steps and have shifted from the middle of the room to a corner near the desk, although you did step on his foot once or twice during the process.
“Sorry,” you say but he grins.
“It’s alright. You’re learning really quickly.”
“Thanks, I’ll practise more at home.”
“Just remember one-two-three.”
“Thanks for teaching me,” you reply, and Leon lets go of your hand to hold you by your waist.
“Um…should we practice now?” He asks shyly.
“Dancing?”
“No, not…uh, not dancing.”
His cheeks go pink again and you realise what he is talking about.
“Oh, right,” you reply, “yes, let’s practise."
"Should we sit down?" he suggests, "...the bed?"
You nod and together, you wordlessly climb over his bed, the mattress shifting under your combined weight as you sit opposite each other, cross-legged.
Your gazes meet and Leon's face soars to various shades of red as you clear your throat and you furl and unfurl your hands with trepidation, ready to begin. He watches you silently, his golden eyes glued to your form until he begins to lean forwards and you do the same until you are inches away from each other.
Leon drops his gaze to your lips before closing the gap, gently tilting your face up with his hand under your chin.
You blush from the action, closing your eyes as your lips finally meet. So much for practice, you think to yourself as Leon ravishes your mouth with his own; it’s a sloppier, needier kiss compared to last night and this morning, as though he's making up for the time you had spent apart. Leon presses his lips against you hungrily, deepening the kiss, and you’re not in the mood to correct him in any way.
Enjoying the feel of his mouth against yours, you kiss for what seems to be a long time and the room is quiet save for the sounds of your lips meeting and some light, muffled moans from the back of your throats. You move your arms to rest around the back of his neck, pecking him on the lips affectionately and he smiles against your mouths before encircling his arms around your waist and drawing you into his lap, capturing your mouth once again.
A polite knock on the door makes you both retreat in a span of a second, your hands untangling from each other.
“Hop!” Leon exclaims loudly whilst you pull down your shirt and adjust your hair.
Hop is grinning widely at you two and you cannot help but think how much he saw. “Pardon my intrusion, but your table is ready. If you’d kindly follow me, please.”
Leaving Leon’s room, Hop leads you downstairs, into the kitchen and towards the backdoor.
A nice aroma wafts in the kitchen, which is a chaotic mess; there’s a tower of dirty dishes sitting in the sink and all the hobs are occupied with all sorts of pots and pans. Leon’s mum is busy tidying up, but she shoots you a grin.
You step out of the house and into their back garden and you don’t see anything out of the ordinary until Hop flips a switch and the entire back garden flickers into life.
Their gazebo has been decorated with roses and fairy lights, along with a small two-seater table that has been carefully set up for you and Leon in the middle of the garden. The table is decorated with a candlestick and rose petals have been carefully scattered over the floor, lining the path.
Leon is stunned as you stand side-by-side; you let out a gasp of awe and Hop leads you to the table.
Hop pulls the seat out for you and as you sit down, thanking him, he presents you with a menu. Meanwhile, Wooloo throws a napkin over your lap and does the same for Leon.
You throw a quick glance to the Champion, who is obviously overwhelmed by the entirety of it at all.
Inspecting the menu, it’s been written by Hop in his neatest handwriting and you see there are two options for starters and desserts and three choices of main course. Leon’s mum and Hop have really outdone themselves. He leaves you alone so you can go through the menu together.
“Leon, your family are so lovely,” you mutter, watching as his cheeks go pink, “this is amazing.”
“They know how difficult it is for me to be seen in public with someone, especially if we were to have dinner but I apologise if this is too much for you, I can ask them to tone it down," Leon replies.
“No, there’s no need. This is wonderful."
Hop returns with a little notebook and pen a few minutes later. “Are you ready to order?”
“Yes, we are, thank you,” you reply with a giggle, “I’ll have the salad for the starter and the fish for the main course.”
“Fine choice. Our fish is the most delicious in all of Galar and are simply sublime, madam,” Hop says with a grin. “And what would you like for dessert?”
“I’ll go for the tiramisu.”
“Fantastic. And for you, good sir?”
Leon gives his little brother a wide smile in response and orders the soup, steak and sorbet.
“Excellent choice, sir. It’s our chef’s specialty. And what would you like for drinks?”
“I’ll have a beer.”
“I’ll have water,” Leon says. Looks like he’s wanting to play safe.
“Very good. Thank you very much.” Hop collects your menus and returns to the kitchen with Wooloo.
As you wait for the food, you and Leon chat as Hop makes several trips to and from the kitchen; he sets a glass on the table filled with iced water along with your can of beer and promptly leaves, then re-emerges a few minutes later, balancing a plate and bowl in hands. It’s the soup and salad and Leon’s mum watches you through the window as Hops serves the starters.
“Bon appetit,” he says, kissing his fingers with a smack and you laugh as he bows and saunters away.
He joins his mother’s side in the kitchen, they exchange a high five, then they peer at the two of you outside, grinning hopefully.
You eat the salad quickly, growing nervous as you and Leon eat in this romantic candlelit setting. You’re aware of how close you are, that he’s watching you and suddenly you’re conscious of the way how you eat and also how handsome he is under the dim flickering light. When you look up, he's still looking at you and to calm your nerves, you take a few sips of your beer.
He inches his chair closer to yours and when the main course arrives, Leon’s mum suddenly steps outside, stops shortly in front of your table and does a little bow. She’s holding a bagpipe which she settles neatly into its proper position in her arms and she briefly explains that she will be tonight’s entertainment.
Clearing her throat, Leon’s mum takes a deep breath and begins to play, filling the garden with a loud but jaunty tune. You watch her cheeks puffing and her face seems to go a little red and when she’s finished, she wheezes slightly and wipes her forehead.
“Phew! I still have it in me…” she utters whilst you and Leon burst into applause. “Thank you, thank you, my dears…do enjoy the rest of your evening.”
She departs hastily after a bow so you can eat.
The evening progresses and Leon moves his chair even closer; you are sitting so close together he can place his hand over yours. And when the dessert arrives, you are so full you’re not sure if you can eat it but Leon’s mum had put so much effort in putting this dinner together just for you and Leon so you tuck in as much as possible despite your protesting stomach.
Hop eventually returns to clean up the plates once you’re finished, Leon wipes his mouth neatly with a napkin before rising from his seat and you look up at him expectantly as he offers you his hand.
“Would you like to dance?”
“I would love to,” you reply, slipping your hand into his with a smile.
He pulls you up onto your feet and leads you further into the gazebo, sliding his arm around your waist securely whilst you loop your arm over his shoulder as he had taught you; with your hand in his, he begins to lead you around the small space of the gazebo.
Recalling his earlier instructions, you repeat the mantra of ‘one-two-three’ in an attempt to match his steps and to your surprise, you’re able to keep up with him and also, you have barely made any errors.
“I think I’m getting the hang of this,” you mutter.
“You’re doing great," he replies, and you smile as you complete another circle around the gazebo together.
You wish this evening will never end.
…
Meanwhile.
In Wyndon, Graves relaxes at home in his robe and slippers. He is a busy man but it doesn’t mean he shouldn’t take some time off for himself every now and then for self-care.
And what a marvellous day today had been.
He had no problems, no issues at work. Everything had gone swimmingly and he had left the office in a good mood.
He didn’t think anything would ruin this day.
With his feet up on the table, he lounges in his leather recliner with a hot towel slapped over his face, eyes closed as soothing music plays in the background of his lounge.
“Ah, this is the life,” he mutters as he sinks into his plush armchair.
Suddenly, his phone hovers into the room, bobbing up and down by his shoulder. “Sir, you have a message from your god-daughter.”
“What is it? Read it out for me.”
“Yes, sir,” Rotom replies, before he says loudly, “I’m dating Leon. Thought you ought to know.”
Graves sits up properly, the towel peeling off his face and dropping over his lap.
“WHAT?”

Round 1: VS Venonat - Legends Part 1
Hello everyone, welcome to my story! This is the first book in a series I'm writing. Hopefully, it'll be finished the way I want it to be. I have a lot of plans to manipulate known facts and add my own into the fray as well.
Sorry, y'all! I didn't mean to fall off on writing this. I just got self-conscious. But I'm not going to let that get into the way anymore! I'm gonna stay on top of writing this!
Especially with this new writing style I've got! I've discovered I'm more a slice of life, mystery, fantasy type of writer. Not so much action like I originally tried. So, my chapters will be much shorter than before and will have great character interactions. I hope y'all like it this go around! And I promise I'll do better with staying on top of things!
I've made a lot of changes to the OG story, along with the previous version so I'll make sure to spot them out and let y'all know!
Oh, and quick disclaimer. I'm a black queer writer so all of my stories, including this one, will have characters who explore black and queer themes. I hope this creates a welcoming atmosphere for all to enjoy my stories and see a different perspective on pokemon and what it can be written about.
I also hope to inspire more black and queer writers to write stories on this site. The more the merrier!
Oh and I'm thinking about doing this thing where I tell y'all what music helped me write these chapters. It's a fun little thing. Mainly because music is a big part of my writing process so I thought it'd be fun to share with y'all!
So these three chapters were inspired by the Calling All Lovers album by Tamar Braxton! I love her voice and have been obsessed with her recently! She's always been one of my favs (#piscesgang) but this revisit to this gem just kept me going! I believe the song that helped a lot was Broken Record.
Special shoutout to Big Dummy by Cocoa Sarai (#piscesgang) as well! That song kept me motivated.
Without further ado, I hope you enjoy it!

Pokémon Adventures: Turquoise, Jasper, & Ammolite
Round 1: VS Venonat – Legends Part 1
Location: Twinleaf Town Date: August 4th, 3000 Time: 8:45am
Legends. Paxton grew up on the grand tales of mystery and wonder. Weaved together by ancient people who desired to understand the world around them. From declarations of the universe’s creation to the birth of emotions. A legend existed for them all. And all found themselves scribed and stored in libraries across Sinnoh.
Once upon a time, he believed them. Sat amongst groups of budding trainers in awe as their teacher’s spun these tales. Admired the scholars who backed up these claims with beautifully dressed lies. Part of him wished he believed them. At least then he’d preserve the innocence he lost long ago.
Not that it mattered. Innocence didn’t make for a great travel companion. Clouded the mind and led even the best astray. Paxton knew he’d never succumb to it. Not again.
“Ain’t that right, Kiri?” his little formantis thrilled beside him. She fell in step beside him, having just defeated a wild bidoof. Annoying rodents with the worst aromas.
Under the morning sun, he kept moving. Summers in Sinnoh never made much sense. Despite the heat, a chilling breeze whisked by. Eastern winds—had to be from the lake. Still, a bit musty for his taste. He heard Lake Verity was a beautiful place filled with energetic, young pokémon. Perhaps just another well-crafted lie.
It doesn’t matter. Paxton shrugged and continued his path. He had his mission and pitstops didn’t fit the bill. Soon enough, he found himself inside Twinleaf Town. A cute little place filled with morning folks. They took to the streets with their pokémon and tended to their business. A few merchant stands set up with fresh produce and supplies.
“Pretty nice, huh?” Kiri agreed. She breathed in the fresh air and thrilled. Much better for her than Jubilife City.
Now, if any of them could point him in the right direction—
“I tell ya it’s true!” A youngster wailed to a crowd. Quite the sight, Paxton mused. Clothes tattered and caked with mud. His youthful tan marred with bruises and an odd burn across his forearm.
“There’s a monster in the lake! It attacked me and my nidoran!”
A monster in Lake Verity? Paxton frowned. Too farfetched for his taste. Powerful pokémon never lingered along the lakefront, so the merchants told him. The most dangerous any trainer encountered was a choleric gyarados!
There’s no such thing as monsters, he scoffed but got closer regardless. The kid had a story, no doubt about it. Perhaps it would prove to be a challenge for him.
Though his hopes weren’t high. Twinleaf Town hadn’t produced capable trainers in years—
“The boy speaks truth, if only misguided,” an elderly man took the boy’s side with a pleasant smile. Eyes narrowed with wisdom as leaned against his cane. “There’s always been a force protecting the lakefront. A guardian blessed by Lady Mesprit herself. It serves to protect the grounds from intruders.”
A guardian, the Paxton scoffed. Yet another well-dressed lie. And the crowd around him shared his thoughts if their whispers were any indication.
Clearly, the elder saw no reason to stop. He only adjusted his kimono and tapped his cane against the lush grass. A soft, melodic sound, yet it quieted the confused herd of people. Paxton whistled. Plenty of teachers killed for that superpower, especially on the last day of classes.
“Now, now,” The elder smiled, gingerly tapping the pokéball on his cane. “We all knew of the legend.”
The ball snapped open and released a pokémon before them all. A beautiful feline with glowing, white fur. The perfect contrast to its pitch-black skin and talons. Armed with a scythe-like tail and a crescent horn jutting from its forehead.
It glared at him with glowing red eyes. Eyes filled with frosty wisdom. Lingered on him, demanding something the trainer wasn’t prepared to give.
He flinched. Not his proudest moment. And the pokémon agreed, turning up its nose with a snarl.
“You feel it, Absol?” The man said in a graveled whisper. At once, the strange pokémon—absol, he supposed—growled. The elder stroked its forehead and locked eyes with the trainer. “Young man, what is your name.”
Part of him wanted nothing more than to flip the old geezer off. He hated unwanted attention. Yet the questioning gaze of the crowd made him shrink. Of course, that geezer had them wrapped up in his every word.
“Paxton,” he spoke softly, gathering Kiri closer for comfort. She glared and waved her arms for battle. “Paxton Lotus of Floaroma Town. This is my partner pokémon, Kiri the formantis.”
The geezer nodded with a strange smile. But Paxton couldn’t place why it disturbed him. “You all remember the legend,” the geezer spoke again. “A child blessed with verity. Discovered by the peaceful flower.” Paxton groaned. Of course, this had something to do with him. No wonder he didn’t trust the geezer. “Tell me, young one. What has brought you to his town?”
Easy. He had his mission. Deliver the package and report back to Professor Kapok. Nothing special. He did plenty of these over the weeks.
“To see the lake guardian with my own eyes,” Paxton spoke, but words felt foreign. “And start my journey with an adventure.”
“An adventure,” The man smiled. A knowing smile Paxton saw plentifully on Father’s face. “An adventure intertwined with the red strings. Yes, you certainly shall receive one. Follow me, please youngling.”
Something tells me I shoulda stayed in Floaroma Town
…
Suddenly, staying in Floaroma Town felt like the right move. Paxton sighed and ran a hand over his green coils. Lake Verity didn’t live up to the legends. No bustling pokémon or fairy spirits. Not even a spontaneous battle—though, Paxton yearned for it well. Just silence and a thick fog.
A strange fog at that. It hung over the trees until they caved to its weighed. Many bent at odd angles. Not even Eterna Forest looked so eerie. And that forest had far too many ghost-type pokémon.
“I hate this place,” Paxton shivered. The air seemed so cold and heavy. And each brush of air prickled his skin with sharpened icicles.
Paxton paused by a familiar tree. Passed it a few times now, he knew. No other tree had these strange cravings on the bark. Some language, he wagered. However, the letters seemed bizarre and had cycloptic eyes. Strange, yet they seemed familiar. As if he saw them in a dream before.
{Paxton…} a voice whispered on the wind. Eyes darted around, but Paxton couldn’t find the source. Yet the voice continued, whispering his name in an offbeat rhythm. {Paxton…}
Great, I’m loosin’ it! Paxton groaned. Yet the voice paid him no heed. Each whisper grew louder than the last with a pronounced echo. Mashed together with words until it jumbled into an incoherent mess. Pain shot through his mind and Paxton stumbled. Braced against the tree, he stared into the fog and froze.
A figure breached the fog. Pale as ice with messy coils and lifeless eyes. Naked yet the wisping streamers of the fog covered anything unsavory. The figure stared at him with shinning sky-blue eyes…and smiled. Giggled even!
Is that a ghost? Paxton swallowed. Spirits weren’t his forte. In fact, they freaked him out!
{Paxton…} the ghost spoke even though its lips never moved. It urged him to follow as it stepped back into the fog. {Paxton…}
…Hell. Against his better judgement, he followed it. Chased it through the shifting fog as Kiri appeared beside him in a burst of light. He needed her. If this ghost was anything like the kind in Kanto, then he couldn’t take any chances! Would’ve been a perfect time to find that guardian though.
Guardian…what if that ghost was the guardian? A chill ran down his spine. He hoped not. Dealing with the undead was Casper’s thing, not his! He had enough of ghost-type pokémon ever since he got lost in that busted down chateau!
Still, he put those thoughts aside and chased its faded form. Even as his lungs screamed at him to take a break. Or his legs struggled to keep up. He fought through it. And Paxton found himself in a clearing. Empty, yet devoid of the heavy fog. Just a soft breeze and lake water as it crashed against the ground.
The ghost turned to him and grinned. Eyes filled with mirth as it lifted off the ground and floated to the lake. Paxton followed and gazed in awe. The ghost danced above, swinging its arms. It spiralled through the morning skies and giggled. Soft and melodious as the soft waves rolling through. And with a grin, the ghost dove into the lake.
Glittering light erupted across the water. Engulfed the lake in a rainbow splendor.
For a moment, Paxton stared into the light. Entranced as thoughts raced through his mind. Feelings, long since buried, unearthed and flooded him in a sparkling array of light—
(Veno-NAT!)
Paxton didn’t realize he moved until the heat hit him. As he rolled along the soft grass, charred dirt sprinkled his skin. Ignited by flashes of green light. Something attacked him, but he couldn’t see anything in the grass. Just rustling as the breeze blew through—
(NAT!)
This time, Paxton was ready. He lunged away as streaks of light smashed into the ground. Unharmed except for the light scarps. Good enough for Kiri as she dashed into the fight. She weaved through the streaks of light and unleashed a spiral of glowing leaves into the tall grass. Trimmed grass fluttered through the air, but the rustled told him all he needed to know.
“Kiri, widen your range and trim the grass! Razor Leaf!”
Sharpened leaves ripped through the air and trimmed the tall grass. Amongst the fallen leaves, he caught a glimpse of the assailant. Purple for sure…and were those clodhopper feet?
The creature paused in the epicenter of the field. And…it had to be the ugliest thing Paxton ever saw. Thick, disheveled purple fur mashed with giant, red eyes, stubby paws and insect features. Poor thing. Nobody’d ever train something so hideous.
This must be the monster. Paxton frowned. Ugly or not, he had to get rid of it.
“Kiri, time to water the garden.” Kiri rushed it and slashed it across the chest. The bug cried out, but Kiri didn’t stop there. She slashed and slashed, drawing pained buzzes from the creature. Now that Kiri had a target, that bug didn’t have a chance.
“That’s it! Fury Cutter!”
Once Fury Cutter went to work, it didn’t matter what pokémon Kiri faced. Each slash gained greater strength than the last. A nasty move for sure but made pokémon battles so much easier. The bug stumbled away from a slash and hopped away. But Kiri raced after it, unleashing more spiraling leaves to smash into its back.
“Finish it, Kiri! Leaf—”
Kiri cried out, low and mangled, as she fell forward! Her blades held her up, but she gasped for air.
But how?! Paxton watched in horror as the air rippled and smashed into Kiri, blowing her back. He lunged for her. Caught her just before she crashed. And when he pulled her close, he found streaks of purple staining her green skin. Poison?
(Nat?) The bug hopped over. Body tensed as green light oozed underneath its messy fur. Paxton dipped a hand to his belt. He had the perfect pokémon for this ugly—
“Motha,” A calm, melodious voice washed over the field. And the beast paused. “That’s enough.”
The beast hobbled over to the lake with a certain bounce that Paxton didn’t appreciate.
“That’s enough fighting, please,” the same voice spoke again. And a trainer climbed out of the crystal waters. Clad in only a pair of black briefs decorated with bugs and bubbles. His soaked black coils hung over his eyes, dripping water down his toned hazelnut body. When he finally moved the coiled curtains, Paxton caught sight of sky-blue eyes.
Just like that ghost.
But…his looked so shattered.
“Who are you?” He spoke again with that same melodious quality. Only this time, there was a noticeable edge. Like a cliff blocking a powerful wave. “What are you doing in Lake Verity?”
Paxton scowled. Figures the monster had a trainer. It fought too well to be wild. But it didn’t make sense. Why attack? Paxton shook his head.
“My name is Paxton—Paxton Lotus of Floaroma Town,” he gulped. His heart pounded against his chest. “I’m here to defeat the monster in Lake Verity. That you, ain’t it?”
The trainer paused. And his eyes darkened with flecks of gray.
“I am the guardian of Lake Verity,” he began slowly as a storm brewed behind his lips. “My name is Turquoise. Turquoise Yukule.”
…
How did y'all like that chapter? It took some time to perfect, but I loved the twist it took! I'm happy with it.
Paxton's a new character I made. Lowkey based him off of a mix of the Aroma Lady and Gardener Trainer Classes. I'm starting to really fuse Trainer Classes for some reason and I love it lol
And yay, Turquoise is back! He's literally my favorite little bubble of sunshine. I love his character and did some changes to him too. I'll let y'all know his Trainer Class next chapter!
But I'd to hear from y'all. Feel free to leave a review or PM me. I'd love to hear your feedback. And I'll do my best to respond to all reviews as well!

Raihan Fanfic
"The Legend of the 8 Gaurdians"
I ran through the streets of Hammerlocke being chased by a group of men who were determined to catch and take me back to the Unova region and I refused to go because they were ging to return me to Ghetsis a man I grew to hate and would later learn I wasn't the only one the asshole expirmented on. I lost them by ducking down a street that lead to a few shops and a Pokemon center, I headed for the stadium but was chased up a flight of stairs by one of the men, I ran through a door which I later learned lead to something called the Vault. I looked around and found a place to hide behind a huge dragon statue. I heard the door opening and some voices but they sounded nothing like the men who were after me though they burst through the door a few seconds later and I heard one of them whose name is Raihan tell the men they had to leave that they did not have his permission to be there, they told him they were looking for a girl and gave him my discription and he said he hadn't seen me and even if he did he wasn't going to tell them and then he threw them out.
Afrer the trainers left, Raihan stayed behind. "Alright, if you are hiding in here somewhere, you can come out, I'm not going to hurt you and I sure as hell am not giving you to those assholes" I peeked out from behind the dragon statue then revealed myself to him. I appolgized to him for coming in without his permission and he told me to forget about it, I was in danger and needed a place to hide so he was going to let it slide. Raihan walked over to me and looked me over "So what's your name?" I looked down "Jenna" He smiled "That's a pretty name, you can look at me like i said not going to hurt you and my name is Raihan" I looked up at him "I knew your name I heard you say it before" He chuckled "oh yeah when i had the trainers in here to look at the tapastry, why were those men after you?" I rubbed my arm "It's a long story" Raihan looked at his watch "Well, gym trials are over for the day, come on I'll treat you to something to eat and you can tell me your long story" I don't know why but I felt i could trust him so I went with him, he went to take a picture with me but I ducked away "No, don't, I don't trust those men or Ghetsis are not scowering every where for me and that includes social media" Raihan put his phone away and appoligized to me for it but I told him to let it go, no harm done.
Raihan took me to a resturant for something to eat, while we were eating he asked me again why those men where after me so i decided to tell him my story. "Those men work for another man named Ghetsis, he's from the Unova region, where I am also from, When i got free of him I took off and took the first flight out of Unova and ended up here in Galar, I didn't know they had followed me until I got here and they started chasing me. Ghetsis did some experiment on me, he fused dragon DNA with my DNA, he's not finished, he won't be finished until he turns me into what he seeks, one of the 8 Gaurdians" He sat his fork down "Ghetsis that name sounds real familar to me and what are the 8 gaurdians?" I finished drinking my water. "Legend has it that all 8 regions have one dragon of one elemental type gaurding them, though they say when the Tapu took over the Alola region their guaridian dragon vanished." Raihan wiped his mouth "and why does Ghetsis seek these dragons?" I shook my head "I wish i knew, he wouldn't even tell his men when they asked, I did find out that Ghetsis used to live in the Kalos region" The look on Raihan's face when I said that "are you ok?" He shook his head "Now i know why that name sounds familar, years ago when I was little, my parents took me on holiday to the Kalos region, It was the third day there and some strange men grabbed me and took me away from my parents and to Ghetsis where he did some weird things to me or expiermented as you put it, I got away with the help of two trainers and a gym leader, i remember the one trainer had a deer type pokemon who faught off Ghetsis while the gym leader got me free and took me back to my parents" I had to think. "You saw Xernes, he's the pokemon of life in the Kalos region, he can give life to anything using his life force, when he does he goes to sleep to restore himself, Yvetial is the being of distruction so be thankful it wasn't him" He flagged our server down and asked for a dessert menu then turned his attention to me. "I'm going to let you stay with me,I'll take you shopping for new clothes and let you get your hair done as well. I think Ghetsis might be after both of us, if he remembers me" I had to cover my mouth as I was laughing and didn't want to spit my drink out at Raihan. "I think the only way he'd remember you is by your name, he's lucky if he remembers to put a pair of pants on in the morning" Raihan almost choked on the pastry he was eaten, he had broken it in half and gave me half since it was big. I reached over and patted his back. "Sorry" He got it out of this throat "No Worries, do you have any Pokemon?" I held up four pokeballs "Yup, Salamance, Dragonite, Flygon and a Dreepy I've been training" He sat the pastry down on his plate "You train dragon types? I have a Flygon as well." I nodded as I had a mouth full of pastry, once I swallowed it I was able to talk. "My first pokemon was a Dratini that Colress gave me, she is now the Dragonite on my team." Raihan gave me a smile "I've never seen a Salamance before, they are not native to Galar" I returned the smile "I had her since she was a Bagon, if you want when we are outside in the wild area i can let my Pokemon out to meet you" He finishes his part of the pastry "I'd like that, let me go pay and then we can leave" with that he got up and went and paid the check while i gathered my things.
Once out in the wild area I let my Pokemon out to meet Raihan and he had let his out, since we had to see if they'd get along. My Dragonite went over to him and smelled him to get his scent, she pondered something then turned to me nodding her head. Raihan was a bit confused "What was that all about?" I chuckled "she got your scent and by your scent she can tell what kind of person/trainer you and she approved you, so in other words she likes you" The two Flygon's where staring eachother down but then stopped when they realized the other wasn't going to attack. My Dreepy got into Raihan's hoodie and it was fun getting the little bugger out. Now for my Salamance, its takes her time to take to someone new, she took to his Pokemon as they made her feel welcome and comfortable in the strange new land. Salamance looked at Raihan and tilted her head "Sala?" she slowly made her way over to him. He got down to her level so she could get a better look at him. He held his hand out for her to get his scent "Come on girl, not going to hurt you" When she reached him she smelled his hand then placed her head in his hand "Sala Sala" I smiled "she likes you to and is comfortable with you handling her" I was not watching the Dreepy and the two Flygons where chasing the bugger around and they were headed right for Raihan and that's when i noticed them.'Raihan watch out, Dreepy is being bad and the Flygons are trying to round him up and they are heading right for you" Before i could do anything Salamance went between his legs and lifted him up into air making him hold on to her. "Whoa! I'm used to riding my Flygon but this is cool" Riahan's Flygon got a hold of Dreep by the back of the neck while my Flygon scolded her" Then it hit me "I should tell you all my Pokemon are female, including my Flygon" Salamance brought him back down "And mine is a male" After playing around with our Pokemon some more I allowed Raihan to take me to the salon then clothes shopping.
My hair was revealed to be a honey blonde color and my eyes an aqua blue, the stylist was aware of what was going on and added pink and light blue streaks to my hair. After that was paid for Raihan took me clothes shopping which was fun as I had to ask him to look at the back of my shirt and pants at the tags to get my size, When I asked about him looking in my pants for the tag his face was as red as a cheri berry but he did keeping his eyes on the tag. Once i knew my sizes I began to pick out clothes, I ducked into fitting room to get my bra and panty size, didn't want to kill Raihan by making him look in those areas. Once I had everything which included accessories, shoes, hats and sunglasses we head for his place. I looked at him "Where do you live?" Raihan chuckled "most people think i live in the vault, nope, there's a door that is locked, that door leads to my apartment"
Once I was settled into my room as he gave me the guest bedroom but pointed out his was next to it and he showed me were the bathroom was and of course my Dragonite had to play with the toilet by flushing it making both of us laugh. I went back into my room and got clean panties and a night gown and went to take bath. I told my pokemon to be good and listen to Raihan since we were guests in his house. Once I was done in the bathroom, Raihan went into take a shower. I went into my room and placed a make up kit on my dresser in which my Salamance looked at me "Sala" she scolded I looked at her then patted her head. "Yeah i know i should tell him" But i didn't he found out during the night that we were the same. I had fallen asleep ontop of the blankets hugging my Salamance. Raihan checked on me and pulled the blankets out from under us and covered us up. "Good Night" then he closed the door going into his room for the night.
My Salamance woke with a start and looked at me, she noticed i was growling and that the dna had woken up. She jumped off the bed and bit Flygon in the tail waking her "Sala Sala!" she motioned to me with her wing. Flygon took note and grabbed Dreepy's pokeball and let her out. They went and tried to hold me down after getting Dragonites attention and sent Dreepy to get Raihan. I started to fight against them. Dreepy knew it was bad and went as fast as she could and since she was part ghost she could go through doors. Raihan turned out to be hard to wake up so Dreepy went and let his Pokemon out and told them what was going on, His Flygon took control and ordered the others to head to my room and he and my Dreepy got on Raihan's bed and between both of them biting him in the ass they woke him with a start. "OUCH! what was that for and who let you out..." he noticed that Dreepy looked upset "Something wrong with Jenna?" Dreepy nodded. Raihan jumped out of bed motioning for them to follow him. He knocked on my door "Jenna is there something wrong, the pokemon seem upset" all he heard was growl and the sound of his Sandaconda being knocked to the floor. "What the hell?" he opened the door and flipped the light on and stared at me for a second. He noticed the heavier pokemon were trying to weigh the blanket down to keep me pinned to the bed. Sandaconda shook his head and uncoiled himself and wrapped himself around my legs which i had freed from the blanket he was careful not to break my bones. Raihan hurried over "On boy i'm going to need help..." he grabbed my Rotom phone and found it unlocked, He messaged Kabu, Piers and Leon and told them to hurry, he knew their pokemon could add to the weight on the blanket.
Piers was the first to arrive since he lived close by he quickly let out his Obstabgoon and Malamar and told them to try and hold me down. Kabu and Leon arrived next along with Gordie who helped weigh the blanket down even more with his rock type Pokemon. Leon looked at Raihan "what is going?" Raihan grabbed his head and shook it " that son of bitch..." he grabbed a hold of my arms trying to hold me down, but to do so he'd have to awaken the DNA in himself. He looked at the others "A man named Ghetsis did experiments on us, we have the DNA of dragons in us, hers must of awakened. I growled and tried to grab Raihan's hand and bite him but my mouth was covered by Scrafty's hand. Leon looks over at Piers "Call your sister maybe her Grimmsnarl and Morpeko can lend a hand" Piers did as told and soon Marnie was on the scene, her Grimmsnarl was working to keep me from biting anyone. Gordie checked on the other pokemon and then looked at Marnie "Does your Morpeko know any parylzing moves?" She nods and orders her Morpeko to use nuzzle of me. It worked for a bit but gave Raihan enough to explain everything to them. I started being able to move and tried to grab a hold of Grimmsnarl to pull him off my mouth but Charizard grabbed my hand and pinned it back down. Gordie quickly called his mother telling her to hurry over and bring her Lapras with her, then he called Nessa and told her to bring Drednaw with. The two women quickly arrived and using Lapras the blanket was frozen over and using Drednaw the bottom was weighed down more. Bea arrived with her Machamp to help hold me down, Opal had dragged Bede with and both used the heaviest pokemon they had which would be Rapidash, Hatterne and Weezing to weigh it down even more. Alliester had his Gengar help hold me down by making him use the shadows to hold me down. Raihan who could now think for a second then he looked at Leon "This is going to be risky, but i think the only way i'm getting control over her is awakening the DNA with in me" Leon looked a bit confused "How are you going to do that?" Raihan sighed "with anger, i need you to piss me off so i can get the DNA to wake up" But before he could do that I had gotten free and went after Bea but Piers had tackled me down and was using all his weight to hold me down "No, bad we don't attack friends" I tried to throw him off but his Obstagoon added more weight by sitting on my legs. In all the confusion my Dreepy had evoloved into Drakoloc and was now helping to hold me down. Leon did not have to do anything as when i was struggling i sent Obstagoon flying right into Raihan slamming him into the wall and that did it, his eyes glowed and he growled and got up and came over to me "Piers, let her up" He nodded and quickly moved his ass out of the way. Raihan grabbed a hold of me. "Jenna...calm down" he held me tight against him. I growled and tried to hit him in the groin but he lifted me and held me bridal style "that's not going to work sweetheart"
Not sure how long it took but the next thing i knew i was waking up in Raihan's arms. I was so confused as to what had happened. My Drakoloc came flying over to me happy I was ok. Raihan woke up next "You ok now Jenna?" I was so confused "what happened?" Raihan scratched the back of his head "where to start....your Pokemon woke me and my Pokemon up because they were distressed then we found out why, the DNA with in you has awoken, it took almost all of the gym leaders and Leon to hold you down, then you slammed Obstagoon into me sending us into the wall which awakened the DNA within me allowing me to get control of you" I was horrified "oh my arecus I am so sorry" and I started crying which prompted Raihan to put his arms around me and hold me close to him "Not your fault" We talked a little while longer then got up and went to have breakfast. I was sitting at the table looking through my Pokedex when i realized something "Hey i'm missing the Larvatar line" Raihan put the frying pan down and turned to face me "We can go hunt one after breakfast" I put my Pokedex away and went to feed the pokemon, I Icould not find the two Flygons and when I did I was shocked "Raihan get in here and help me pry these two apart" I heard a crash coming from the kitchen followed by Raihan running down the hall. "What's going on?" I gestured for him to look into the bedroom and he did "Guys! wait till we leave you in the nursery for that.It took both of us but we managed to get them apart and promised the two Flygons some time in the nursery. I looked at Raihan "What was the crash in the kitchen?" He went red in the face and told me when I called him about prying the two Pokemon apart that he dropped and broke a plate and not to worry about its not the first nor will it be the last time a plate got broken.
After the Pokemon were fed we went back to the kitchen and I helped him clean up the broken glass then I set the table and he brought the food over for us to eat. Raihan had made french toast and the plate he broke was the one he was oringally going to put it on. I just taken a bite when Raihan looked at me and I looked at him "What do I have something on my face?' He laughed and shook his head no. "I've decided that after breakfast and before we go Pokemon hunting, we are moving you into my bedroom that way i can keep an eye on you and if that happens again I can get you under control before it goes to far" He just had to point out that my face was as red as an Applin' but he promised not to do anything with out my permission its that I gave him a scare that night and he doesn't want it to happen again and he's right it was scary. I finished eating. "I owe the others for coming out in the middle of the night and trying to help me" Raihan reached over and rubbed my back. "But what can you do?" I reached under my shirt and pulled out a necklace i was wearing. Raihan eyes went wide when he seen it "is that the legendary Dragon's eye ruby?" I took the necklace off and held it up "Yeah it is, it's supposed to keep me under control but it has another power as well" Now he was a bit confused "what other power could a ruby have?" I smiled and laid the necklace down. "It is stated that the Dragon's eye ruby possesis the power to grant one wish per person, I just don't know how its activated" I put the necklace back on "I think there's a way to find out, I over heard Piers talking Spikemuth, if i let him place his hand on the ruby and make a wish maybe just maybe it'll activate" Raihan sat his coffee mug down "It's worth a try, let's go see him, we can move stuff later" And with that we were off to Spikemuth.
We arrived in Spikemuth and Marnie took us back to her brother who was suprised to see us. "What brings you here?" I took the necklace out from under my shirt "This may sound weird but place your hand on the ruby and make a wish" Marnie looked confused but Piers got it right away "No way that's the Dragon's eye ruby, i heard of it just never thought i'd get to see it" I nodded and gave him permission to touch the ruby. He placed his hand on the ruby and closed his eyes "I wish spikemuth could return to its oringal state, not run down" The ruby begain to glow and floated up after i removed it from neck. Piers opened his eyes "what's going on" I shook my head "Its activated" All of sudden we were engulfed in a bright red light and when it faded Spikemuth had been restored and no longer run down. Marnie was shocked and couldn't believe her eyes. Piers gave me a hug "thank you, but why did you let me do that?" I hugged him back "Raihan told me what happened that night and i wanted to repay you for your kindness in coming out in the middle of the night to help me" I then reached into my pocket and pulled out a bag of Pokemon treats and handed them to "Please give these to your Obstagoon and tell him i'm sorry I slammed him into Raihan and sent both into the wall" Piers took them and chuckled "he'll forgive you that's for sure" Marnie looked at me "Keep that safe, we don't want it falling into the wrong hands" I had to smile "Oh i have a big bad dragon gaurding his treasure" Raihan put his arm around me "yeah no one will get that without a fight" Piers covered his mouth because he was laughing "Yeah a fight they'll loose" I walked back with Piers and he stopped in his tracks, restoring Spikemuth had restored its Gym and a concert venue was also put in place. I had to smile "Seems the Dragon's eye ruby does reward those with a kind heart and that are willing to help others no matter what time of the day it is" I had decided if the others wanted to make a wish I would let them but they could not get greedy with their wish. We soon left Spikemuth and went Pokemon hunting.
Raihan caught me a Larvitar all right, he caught me a shiny one which made me really happy. We had run into Leon who was training and I showed him the ruby and told him it would grant him a wish but he didn't want a wish he was just Happy he could help me and considered me a friend and that was enough for him. That's how it was with the others, they considered me a friend and that was all they wanted and they told me not to be shy and call if I ever needed help again. My rotom phone went off and I answered it using the video chat, it was Colress "Hey, what made you call?" He looked at me and let out a sigh of relief "Raihan, he got my number from your phone, I am so glad you are alright and yes he told me he had the same thing done to him...but that's not why I called you. I was confused "Then why did you call?" Colress's cheeks had a tinge of pink to them "To tell you, since both you and Raihan have the DNA now awake in you, you two will be soon um...going into heat and because you are the same only one male and one female, you two are mates" Both Raihan and I went red in the face. Raihan put his hands behind his head "You know we never thought of that....maybe our Flygons were trying to tell us something" Colress caught on "oh! maybe they were, dragon type pokemon will be able to sense the dragon dna in you both so maybe they were trying to warn you about the upcoming issue" I then showed him my necklace and told him what it could do. Colress dropped his coffee mug and broke it sending the coffee he had in all over the floor and himself. "The Dragon's Eye Ruby...you had it all this time?" I nodded "Yes" He smiled "keep that safe and if anyone wants a wish make sure they are not greedy, one of the 7 sages gave that to you when he found out what Ghetsis did to you and lets just say he got a new asshole ripped by the other sages...speaking of the asshole, he is looking for you but he has no idea where to start looking" That made me and Raihan laugh. We talked some more and then hung up. I looked at Raihan "this is going to be fun" What we didn't know what with the DNA being awake we would gain some other dragon like quailties and with Piers's help we figure out that Raihan is going to have wings.
Later at home Raihan was in the bathroom taking a shower and i was tending to the Pokemon when he called for me. I went to see what was wrong. I knocked on the door and he let me and thankfully he had his boxers and pants on already. I looked at him as I was very concerned "What's wrong?" He turned around "Look where my shoulder blades are" I took a look and ran my hands over the skin and felt to big hard lumps "What the hell?" Raihan shook his head "I don't know, i felt them when i was drying off, i called you to see you could see and feel them or I would of thought I was going crazy" I felt them again "I don't think Nurse joy or any doctor could do anything, let me take a picture and send it to Colress, maybe he'll know" He agreed "Anything to find out what's going on" I called my rotom phone and took a few pictures and sent them to Colress asking what they were and what was happening to Raihan. I snapped my fingers "I'll send one to Piers and swear him to secrecy, he's always searching creepy stuff for song inspiration maybe he's seen something like this" Raihan nodded as i sent the text and picture to Piers. It didn't take long for Piers to replay "those look the beginings of wings starting to grow, the part that attaches to the shoulder blade so they can be controled" another one came in "Hang on I'm on my way over"
Piers arrived right after we went into the living room. He had Raihan turn around so he could see his back. Like me he ran his hand over them. "Yeah these are defently the starting of wing growth the bumps are the bones fusing to you shoulder blades to give you control, not going to lie from i read wings ripping out of your back is very very painful" Since I was wearing a tanktop under my shirt i pulled it off and reached my hand back to one shoulder "I don't have them..not yet anyway if i'm supposed to have wings" Piers had his rotom phone find the webpage he used a lot and showed us pictures of wing developent in dragons making Raihan look abit green in the face "I think i'm going to be sick" he covered his mouth and ran into the kitchen since it was closer then the bathroom. We would later learn that Piers could keep us under control so he literly became a dragon tamer to which he didn't mind at all. I looked at the pictures taking note then looked at Piers "He can't even watch a gory horror movie without puking" Raihan came back from the kitchen and had drinks with him "Sorry about that" Piers took one of the drinks "its no problem, Marnie does the same thing when i show her something gross, though it was her own fault that she seen my bare ass" I about died laughing "What the hell were you doing?" Raihan handed me a drink and kept the last one for himself "Yeah what were you doing?" Piers's cheeks had a rosy hue to them "the bathroom is connected to my bedroom but Marnie does have her own as well and I had a shower and went into my room to get clothes and she just bardged in, didn't take her long to run back out, I told her to knock next time" I had to laugh as I had walked in on Raihan getting out of the shower when I was trying to catch my Salamance, he was quick to cover himself with a towel though. Piers checked something "Ok, as the days go on the bumps will get bigger, once they reach a certain size they will break open and your wings will began pushing though until they are fully out" Raihan made a face "I'm in for one hell of a ride aren't I?" Piers nodded his head "Yes you are" I was going to say something when my Rotomphone got in my face I had a call from Colress, which I answered. "Took you long enough" Colress glared at me "Sorry was busy doing research on those pictures you sent me, those are wing bumps" I nodded my head "Yeah we know, Piers figured out and we know Raihan is in for a painful experience until they are all the way out" Colress looked at his computer for a minuet "there is a way to lessen the pain" Raihan grabbed my phone from me "what is it?" Colress looked again "using an ice type pokemon to numb the area while the wings are pushing out." I rubbed my chin "We are not bothering Melony either, I always wanted a Lapras which is Ice/Water, I will go out and catch one"
Later that day I went out hunting a Lapras, It didn't take me long to find one. I realy didn't have a pokemon that had the advantage over the ice/water type but i gave it a try using my Salamance and manged to get a critical hit stunning it, I took an ultra ball out of my bag and threw it at the Lapras. I watched as the ball shook once then twice then third time before clicking closed. I picked up the ultra ball. "got ya" I was hurrying back to Raihan with the Lapras in hand when a trainer got in my way, she wanted a battle. I kept telling her I didn't have time and to move out the way but she would not budge. I let my Salamance out "You don't move your ass out of my way I will tell Salamance to attack you, yes you not your pokemon but you" She quickly moved out of my way and I called Salamance back and hurried up the stairs into Hammerlocke. Once I returned I showed Raihan that I had caught the Lapras and made sure she knew a few ice type moves.
A few days later is when the fun began. Raihan got up before me and went for a jog when he came back he'd go for a shower, I had just rolled over when I heard him screaming in pain in the bathroom. I got up grabbed the ultra ball that contianed Lapras and sent his Flygon in to get him decent and bring him out if he could. Flygon succeeded in getting him dressed and bring him out. I took a look at his back and thought I was going to throw up all I saw was blood. I grabbed my Rotomphone and called Piers and told him to get his ass over here and not to fuck around. It didn't take him long to arrive at all. He came running into the bedroom where we were and took a look at Raihan's back. "I need a towel or something to wipe the blood up" I ran into the bathroom and grabbed the towel I had dyed with hairdye and no Raihan wasn't mad as it was an old towel. I gave it to Piers and he gently wiped the blood away and got a good look at what was going on. "Both wing buds are broken open and the wings are strarting to push out" I looked down at Raihan and he was biting his pillow. I let Lapras out and told her she was going to help with the pain she nodded her head knowing what I meant. I told her to gently use icy wind on the wing buds to numb the area and she did which calmed Raihan enought to stop biting his pillow. He turned his head to look at me "Can you call Colress so I can bite his head off" Piers started laughing at that one and I smacked him with my pillow and did what Raihan aske me to do and had Rotomphone on video call and floating around so all of us could to Colress. Colress answered the phone "Hey what's up?" I nodded at Rotom who turned the phone to face Raihan and when Colress seen what was up I heard a crash evendently the bloody site made him drop and shatter a beaker he was holding. "Oh my, I didn't think his wings would come in this fast, Jenna what about you?" I walked around to see the video screen "Last time i checked i didn't have any" Piers pulled my shirt up in the back "Think again" I seen Raihan move and his Flygon and my Salamace working together to calm him down. My Flygon flew off and came back with some berries. I looked at her "What are berries going to do?" She held up a dark purple berry, I had forgotten I had made a hybrid berry and its effect was to numb pain, now to get Raihan to eat it. I could feel the bumps on my back pulsate as the bones fused together so now I know how poor Raihan felt. I took the berry from Flygon and sat beside Raihan "Hey love, can you eat a berry? its a hybrid I created it has a numbing agent to numb pain but the taste isn't very sweet" He turned his attention to me and nodded his head. I helped him eat the berry by breaking it up so he wouldn't choke on it, I couldn't help but laugh at the face he made at the taste. "Told you" after he swallowed he looked at me "you are lucky i love you" and after that came out his mouth a scream of pain then he settled down, the berry had kicked it. I got up and hugged Flygon and thanked her for thinking of those berries. I broke another berry apart and spread its juice over the two wing bugs, I could see the top part of the wings sticking out and I dropped the berry I was holding. "No it...can't be" I also told Raihan I loved him so yes I returned his feelings. Piers came and looked "What can't it be?" I looked at him "There are two dragons that rule over all dragons, the god dragon and the goddess dragon..Ghetsis somehow got ahold of God Dragon Dna...those wings are going to be huge and I have a feeling he put the Goddess Dragon dna in me" Piers scratched his head "What the fuck is he trying to do, make a world of real dragons?" I shook my head "I think he plans to use Raihan and I to try and control the dragon type pokemon and get them to do what he wants" Raihan snorted and looked at me, his face was back to normal as the pain was numbed for now. "If i ever get a hold of numb nuts, he's going to need a pokemon that can help him get around" Rotom came flying over to me and Colress was trying to get my attention. "Jenna please pay attention me for a bit" I looked at him "Yes what is it?" He let out sigh of relief as I had answred him. "The Dragon's Eye Ruby can help, by hiding the wings so you can wear normal clothes and others don not see them, they will only see a normal looking back when they look" I looked at him " there is only one and I have it" He shook his head "No, there is a another one there in Galar it was hidden in a dragon statue in the vault" I then remembered the dragon statue i hidden behind had one red eye and one regular eye. I looked at Raihan "Can Piers have your permission to go into the vault?" Raihan lifted his head, I thought he was going to question me but he didn't he gave Piers the permission he needed and told him where the keys were. Piers came back with the key "Alright what am I looking for?" I sat by Raihan and rubbed his back "In the vault is a dragon statue, the right eye is red, you need to remove that eye and bring it back, looks like Raihan here is getting some jewerly to wear" Piers took off for the vault, we only had to wait about twenty minuets as he came running back with the ruby "I had to have Obstagoon help remove it with his claws, the statue is not harmed though" I took the ruby from him and showed to Colress "Got it" He took a good look at it "Yes that is it, it must be fashion into some kind of jewerly for him to wear it." I bit my lip and looked at his ears and saw he had them peirced and turned back to Colress "would earrings work? he has both his ears periced" I head the turning of book pages then he answered me " Yes that will work" I then looked at Piers "know of any place that makes jewerly?" He had to think then he snapped his fingers "Yes I do, the shop just opened up in Spikemuth and it wouldn't take her long to fit that ruby into a set of earrings" I gave Piers the ruby and some money "here take this and get it made into earrings and the type he wears are studs" Piers took the stuff and took off to get it done. Raihan moved a bit to repostion himself. "can you let me up, i need to go to the bathroom" I moved and yanked my Salamance off his legs to let him up. Raihan got up and went into the bathroom. Once he was done and had washed his hands he came back and sat down. I sat beside him "Feeling better?' He put his arm around me "Yeah thanks to you, when did you make those berries?" I tapped my lip while I tried to remember. "I made those not long ago, before I met you actually, my goofy Salamance broke her wing and was in so much pain I felt so bad for her, so I started cross breeding berries and this little beauty came to be." He looked at my Salamance "How'd she break her wing?" I held back a laugh "She was chasing Flygon and she pulled up but Salamance didn't and slammed into a soild rock wall" Raihan made a face "that had to smart" I nodded "yeah it did, I noticed her wing was broken because it looked funny and she couldn't move it with out pain shooting through it. Piers came running back in followed by his Obstagoon. "Sorry for taking longer then i thought..dummy here wondered off and I had to find him" Obstagoon stuck his tongue out at him. He handed me the earrings and I looked them over "wow, these are perfect, thank you" He nods "Welcome, I um fibbed to her and told her it was regular ruby, I was afraid if I told her what it really was she'd try to keep it as she collects rare gemstones" I held them to my necklace and they responded to each other, I handed them to Raihan "Here put these in" He went to take his earrings out and looked a bit sheepishly "Could you help me, it hurts to raise my arms" I got up on my knees and got the first one out and put the dragon's eye ruby one in and put the back on then went around him to the other side and was working on that one when he grabbed a hold of my leg and squeezed it making me yell out in pain I looked at Flygon " Get another berry for him, give him one to eat and break another apart and put the juice on those bumps. Raihan loosed his grip "Sorry love" I put the new earring in and put the back then sat by him "It's ok, you're in pain you didn't mean it" Flygon came over and handed Raihan the dark purple berry and after he took it she went around back and with the help of Dragonite put the berry juice on the bumps. Raihan broke the berry apart to eat it "You could of found a way to make it taste better" I chuckled "I did try but the two berries that made those berries were sour and bitter in taste ask Salamance, but like you she ate it to feel better." Piers went around back to look "Couldn't we pull them out to get it over with faster?" I heard Colress and Rotom hurried over "Do not pull the wings out, let them come out on thier own, pulling them out can damage the wings or do damange to Raihan's shoulders and back." I had to find some way to distract him from it, I got up and hurried over to my bag and dug around until i found what i was looking for and went and sat by him. I plugged the charger in first then set about making him a profile so he could play. I handed it to him "Here try and play game, i gave you own account so you could play and yes I paid for online for it to" He took the Switch Lite from me and looked through the games" I had the games with me "some are digtal but i have the phsyical copies of the rest" Raihan decided to give Link's Awakening at try. I helped him set up his file and when he needed help I'd help him. At one point we both burst into laughter as Raihan accidently triggered the pegasus boots rather then the sword and fell off a ledge into the water but he had the flippers so he could make Link swim around to get out. He looked confused "what's that?" he pointed at the mermaid in the water. "oh her, she's a mermaid, during the trade thing you are doing you need to come across her necklace and return it other, you play the fishing game and in return she'll give you a scale from her tail to finish the mermaid statue and quit fooling around in the water, you have an evil zora on your ass" Didn't take him long to get Link out of the water and onto dry land. The game worked as a distraction as I could tell when he was having a bout of pain and would get Flygon to fetch more berries for him.
Later that day I ordered us a pizza and we decided to chill and watch tv since he was feeling better. Raihan's rotomphone went off and he answered it keeping the video chat off, It was Leon wondering why he didn't show up for gym trials and why Sebastian was running them. Raihan looked at me after muting is phone. "can't excatly tell him I'm in the middle of growing wings, he'd think I lost it" I swallowed the pizza in my mouth "Tell him you had a Pokemon emergancy with our flygons so you asked Sebastian to cover for you until we got things settled" Raihan unmuted his phone and told Leon what I had said and he bought it and right as he was about to hang up the wings decided to push out some more making him yell in pain I sent Flygon for more berries and grabbed his Rotomphone "Sorry about that Leon, my Salamace squashed his groin trying to get a treat from him, he'll be fine" I had a little berry patch that Dragonite and Gigalith tended to so the berries kept coming. I hung up the phone an Flygon came flying back in with fresh berries. I took one and rubbed the juice on his back over the bumps and he took the other one and ate it. Salamance came in with Drakolak following her and Larvitar on her back holding on for the ride. Apparently Leon was worried about Raihan after the accident that he decided he was going to pay us a visit.
Leon knocked at the door and when Dragonite opened it and saw who it was she slammed the door in his face and came and got me. I had her sit with Raihan and keep him calm and went to deal with Leon. I opened the door "Sorry about that my Dragonite didn't realize you were a friend" He rubbed his nose "that's your Dragonite?" I nodded "I also have a Flygon, Salamance, Larvitar which Raihan caught for me and its a shiny and I also have a Draklok which is about to evolve into Dragapult and I caught a Lapras a few days ago" I head Raihan in the living room and what sounded like his Sandaconda and my Draklok trying to keep him quite. Leon just looked at me "What is going on?" Salamance came flying over and was tugging at me trying to get me to follow her. "She needs me to follow her, stay here until I call you" Leon nodded and stood where he was and waited as I followed Salamance into the living room and got quite the shock, Raihan's wings were almost completely out. Raihan's Goodra now joined us in helping him and she ran out to help Flygon harvest more berries. Raihan's Flygon came flying in the door and ran Leon over in his hurry to bring me the bottle of Moo Moo Milk i had asked him to go and fetch. Torkoal and Turtanator where taking turns being heating pads to help Raihan's back he had to ask Torkoal to get his foot out of his ass so he could sit the right way. I grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around Raihan and told him to keep it on then I called Leon into the living room. He came in and had to ask Raihan why he was wrapped in a blanket and I just loved the answer he gave him and it was because he hurt his back and only had a pair of boxers on so I could treat his back for him. Flygon ran over to Leon and gave him some cookies an appoligy for running him over. Leon took the cookies and thanked him. My Flygon went back out to the berry patch. Our cover up was short lived as the wings ripped the rest of out of his back not only making him yell out in pain but they opened sending the blanket flying revealing that Raihan was wearing a pair of lounge pants rather then his signature shorts and the look on Leon's face was priceless. Raihan let out a sigh of relief then folded his wings and used his earrings to make them disappear. Leon shook his head "Did i just see...wings?" I sat next to Raihan relieved his was ok now but knew I'd be going through the same thing in the next few days. Raihan looked at Leon "Yes, you saw wings, not a word to anyone" I grabbed my Rotomphone and sent Piers a message saying that Raihan's wings were fully out now. I got a reply saying he was going to come over after he finished cleaning up a mess he and his Obstagoon had made. Leon promised he wouldn't say a thing to anyone and Raihan made him pinky swear on it and said if he did let it slip he was going to get smacked upside the head. Right after Leon left. Piers came in and into us. Raihan was leaning forward letting me look at his back, there were no marks and it was if the wings never came out at all. He looked at Raihan "So how big are they?" He shook his head "I don't know, they ripped out and opened but i couldn't see how big they are" I looked up "They are a pretty nice size"
This is what I have so far of the Raihan fanfic, I am working on the Piers one. If you want the the one with both of them I may have to post it to either Wattpad or Archive of our Own due to its content.

Top 10 Switch Exclusives
With Nintendo finally pulling themselves out of the mild rut they found themselves in with the Wii U, the Switch is now producing games of monumental quality, so I’m here to take you through the top ten essential Switch exclusives for those of you who just don’t know which games to pick!
Note: I’m including Wii U ports here bc the Switch did them better and they’re still Nintendo so u know
10. Octopath Traveler
One of the many fruits of Nintendo and Square Enix’s growing partnership, Octopath Traveler is an adorable, retro-style JRPG that released on the system in mid-2018. The game features turn-based combat and eight playable characters that vary massively from each other in their personalities and backgrounds, meaning the game always has a fresh perspective. Overall, this is a creative but somewhat underrated title for the Switch that you should definitely pick up if you’re a fan of RPGs.
9. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
The latest entry in the DK series brings all of the bright colours, charm and difficulty in glorious HD on the Switch. While this was ported over from the Wii U, it’s certainly a worthy port to say the least. For fans of challenging platforming, Donkey Kong will tick all the boxes for someone who enjoys fun, colourful gameplay that will sometimes make you want to tear your hair out in frustration. Though, if you want things to be slightly less hard, the brand new funky mode lets you play as Funky Kong (but to be honest with you, it’s still hard. I know I keep mentioning it’s hard but I just really need to drive that home).
8. Bayonetta 2
The critically acclaimed hack ‘n’ slash series Bayonetta, while it began on the Xbox 360, is now a Nintendo exclusive, and the sequel to the already mind-blowing first game is definitely something to behold. The fast-paced, combat heavy gameplay is perfect for the Switch and, of course, Bayonetta as a character is as brilliant as ever. So if you’re someone who would enjoy fighting massive demon creatures as a semi-naked, sassy witch then boy is the franchise for you.
7. Super Mario Party
It’s the game that everyone’s citing as ‘the one that made Mario Party good again’. That’s right, the latest iteration of Mario Party on the Switch has ditched the weird car system that made it not into a board game, and now it’s a board game again! Perfect for any small awkward friend group or big party you misjudged and brought a Switch to, this game comes packed with 80 new minigames. Which is a lot. So if you like Mario and party, then pick this up. Prepare for lots of motion controls.
6. Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Another one for JRPG fans, it’s the latest entry in the series that made a name for itself for having anime-style protagonists with weird British accents, it’s Xenoblade 2! Another one of Nintendo’s charming, unique series, Xenoblade boasts an array of memorable characters, a polished, enjoyable combat system and a story just weird enough to be placed alongside most other JRPGs. Throw on top of that a solid DLC add-on in Torna and you’ve got yourself one fine viddy game experience that will definitely swallow up a couple hundred hours of your life.
5. Splatoon 2
The Splatoon series is one of Nintendo’s newest, shiniest IPs that sees their first and hugely successful foray into an online shooter. Splatoon subverts everything we know about the online shooter genre, which now seems to be over-saturated with gritty, laggy messes with little depth and has given us a genuinely fun and colourful game. A variety of game modes, weapons and customisation options for your Inkling bolster this game’s addiction factor and, on top of that, the recent Octo expansion throws in a genuinely solid single player campaign to boot. This is one basically everyone needs to try.
4. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The latest and greatest in Nintendo’s flagship fighting series, Ultimate was basically dropped on us at E3 and gave us all a heart attack. If you somehow haven’t heard, Ultimate brought back every single veteran to the series, as well as a solid handful of new characters, plus DLC coming this year that includes Joker from Persona 5 and a plant. If that hasn’t piqued your interest, I don’t think anything will. One of the most ridiculously fun multiplayer experiences you will ever have is waiting for you in this game, especially when playing locally with friends, and the new spirits system has helped to conceive an equally amazing single player campaign, World of Light. This game is oozing with fun and intense love for the gaming industry and you can really tell how much hard work they put into this. Go play it.
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Quite possibly the definitive multiplayer experience, Mario Kart has been a staple of most people’s get-togethers since the first entry on the SNES. And much like Smash, Nintendo have created the series’ best entry in 8. Ported over from the Wii U, this game includes all of the DLC plus some new characters and karts, so for some reason you can now play as Link in Mario Kart! Cool! I don’t think anyone knows how to feel about this! The point is, it’s fun so you should probably play it.
2. Super Mario Odyssey
Odyssey is hotly contested to be one of the best 3D Mario games since 64, but even if that somehow isn’t true, you can’t deny how wonderfully unique it is. Each kingdom brings something new to the table; a lush, interesting environment in each one. With so many highlights to pick, from the brilliant puzzles to the new Cappy possession system to the boss fight with the massive dragon, Odyssey is packed full of content and collectibles to keep you coming back. Plus, the festival sequence in New Donk City? I want to play that bit forever.
Before I reveal the top pick that might seem glaringly obvious now, here are some other games that didn’t quite make the 10 but are also v much worth your attention!
Kirby: Star Allies
Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition
1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
I mean, what else was it going to be? Zelda came roaring through the gates when the Switch was finally released and boy, did it deliver. Being the first Zelda game to delve properly into open world, an intense amount of love and detail was poured into every single moment of this beautiful game. Following the themes of lost memories and friendship, you travel across the vast land of Hyrule as Link trying to recover the memory of who he was 100 years ago. And each combat, each encounter, each visit to literally anywhere will leave you laughing, crying or anything in between. This was a game so powerful, it immediately became my favourite game of all time. I know there are a lot of people out there whose hearts are still with Ocarina, but for those new to the series who want a genuinely amazing, heartfelt experience, let Breath of the Wild swallow your whole life. As sinister as that sentence sounds, you really won’t regret it.
Thanks for reading! Let me know your favourite Switch game down below, if you wanna. Hope u find some money in one of your pockets that you didn’t know about.

In which the fire bird is fought
First: In which the human is transformed Next: In which the ice bird is fought Previous: In which the journey begins
The next morning was bright and warm, waking up Team Galaxy early. In their tired morning states, they simply ate a fruity breakfast without much conversation, aside from a review of the notes and their path for the day, and set off right away towards the flaming mountain.
Keahi’s dad’s notes insisted that the best pathway was through the dungeons, not around as one would assume. Apparently if you tried to go around, you’d end up looping back to where you started and would just end up wasting time. It seemed strange, but no one was willing to test the theory. Wasting time in such a place wasn’t something anyone wanted to do.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t just a case of getting the dungeon over with right away. First, they had to even get to the mountain. The heat reached them a long time before they had even reached the base of Mt. Blaze, forcing them to get overheated before having to truly exert themselves.
“This is definitely an active volcano,” Alex panted, taking the worst of the heat with his typing.
“Yeah, kinda hurts the eyes as much as the skin,” Nelvana replied, toying with her scarf idly and squinting at the lava. “How much longer do you think ‘til we’ll get to the actual dungeon?”
“Sadly, at least another half hour at this rate,” Alex sighed, swallowing a breath of humid air. “This heat is slowing us down.”
“It’s pretty bad, a lot worse than I expected. I thought everyone was just exaggerating, but no, this is even a bit much for us with resistances,” Keahi said, pausing to shake zir feathers before continuing. “I can’t imagine how much worse this is for you, Alex,” zie added.
“I’ll be alright,” Alex assured zim.
The ground below their feet was warm and dry, the trail a dull brown and the rocks around it a dark burgundy. Mt. Blaze stood ahead, intimidating in the way the lava flowed down its sides and how tall it appeared from down below. Now as it reached mid-morning, the sun added to the uncomfortable temperature and the brightness of the area. Their walk carried on, finally reaching the base of the mountain where they began the steep climb.
“At least it will be less uphill inside the dungeon, right?” Keahi commented.
“Probably, but your dad’s notes also said there is actually lava inside the dungeon, so it will even out,” Nelvana responded.
“Oh, right,” Keahi mumbled, hopping up to another rock, losing balance for a moment and having to dig zir wing claws into the rocks for extra balance.
“But, your dad’s notes also said that the lava there is different than out here. It’s dungeon lava, so fire-types can actually walk on it, which should be interesting to experiment with,” Alex added, “I mean, it’s still going to be hot and overbearing, but it’s something.”
“Yeah, that should be fun at least!” Keahi chirped.
They didn’t have too far up to go until they found the entrance to the dungeon. The gaping mouth of a dark cave. Beside it stood a stone statue carved in the image of a kangaskhan carrying a large chest. It was dirty was ash and worn with age, however it was evidently not touched in a long time, simply being worn down with time in the harsh land.
“The storage statue!” Keahi exclaimed, scrambling up and hurrying over to the statue.
“This is the storage statue?” Nelvana asked, studying it curiously. “It certainly looks like Kangaskhan, but it doesn’t look like it was built recently?”
“Of course not! I mean, it does look like Kangaskhan, but storage statues were built a long time ago. So has the storage business, it’s their family business. Like the Pelipper Post Office,” Keahi explained.
“Oh, that makes sense,” Nelvana said, “wonder why I haven’t seen one before. There must be a lot of them, right?”
“Yeah, that is odd. Maybe they got destroyed since no one was running them anymore,” Alex murmured.
“Probably…” Nelvana agreed, “so, how do they work?”
“That’s simple! Well, not really, it gets pretty complicated on how it actually functions, but how we use it is pretty simple!” Keahi rambled before tapping on the top of the chest with a wing. “Somehow, Kangaskhan has these all wired to each other, and to her own storage shop. And, it can detect who is using it so you can’t steal from anyone. As long as you’ve used her services before, you can access your supplies with any of the chests just by opening it! See?” zie told them, then opening the chest to reveal all of Team Galaxy’s stored supplies.
“Woah! That’s really cool!” Nelvana exclaimed.
“Yeah!” Alex agreed, looking into the chest. “Is this all your stuff? You guys have collected a lot, good job!” he added, scanning over the various supplies.
Keahi nodded, “yup!” zie proclaimed proudly before pausing and looking at a disc sitting on the top of the pile. “Well… except this TM? I thought we only had calm mind and façade in here, but this one is labelled brick break,” zie murmured, tilting zir head to the side.
Nelvana reached in and pulled out the disc, flipping it over to see a note taped on, “oh, there’s a note attached. Maybe this was a gift?” she wondered before taking off the note and reading it aloud. “’Dear Team Galaxy, my brother and I would like to first of all apologize for not helping you out at in Pokemon Square. There is no excuse for not defending a loyal customer, and furthermore, friend. We both know there is no such way that Nelvana could be in the legend, it just doesn’t add up. Regardless, what happened has happened, and we would like to help you out now. I have left this TM31 in Kangaskhan’s care in hopes that it will make its way to you and you will find use for it. It should help out against any rock or ice-types you encounter in your travels. My brother has decided to set up a mat out in the Frosty Forest, and he will be selling useful supplies to assist you. Safe travels! Sincerely, Purple-Kecleon.’”
“Oh! So, the kecleons sent this to us! How generous of them! We’ll have to thank them in some way when we get back!” Keahi exclaimed, “I don’t think I can use it, so it goes to one of you,” zie added in a calmer tone.
“How much variety in your move types do you have already?” Alex asked, “do you know?”
“Uh, well I’m not really sure how to really keep track, but I think I know bone club and headbutt?” Nelvana answered uncertainly.
“Yeah, that’s right,” Keahi chimed in.
“Then you should probably get it. I have enough variety already to do without it for now,” Alex hummed.
“Oh, alright,” Nelvana said, looking at the disc in her hands with TM31 engraved into it. “How…?”
Keahi laughed, “oh of course! You’ve never had to use one, of course you wouldn’t know. Sorry about that! Our bad,” zie replied, “here, I can walk you through the steps if you’d like. Or Alex can.”
“Is doesn’t really matter…?” Nelvana murmured, rubbing her thumbs over the item anxiously.
Alex waved at Keahi, “go ahead,” he told zim.
“Alright! It’s pretty easy, don’t worry,” Keahi chirped, stepping in front of Nelvana. “So, you’re going to first of all, hold the disc against your forehead. Just like that, there you go! Now focus on it, you should be able to, uh, feel this energy from it? Concentrate on that. Pull it out to you,” zie explained.
Nelvana followed the instructions awkwardly, feeling uncertain with herself. The doubt arose that she might not even be able to use the TM since she was human, but she pushed the thoughts away and tried anyway, resting the disc against her forehead and then closing her eyes to focus on it. At first, nothing happened. But then the disc began to softly glow as Nelvana sensed what she was looking for and grabbed it before she had the chance to lose it. Then, there was a cracking noise an the glowing suddenly stopped. Nelvana flinched and lowered the disc, looking it over anxiously, worried that she had done something wrong. The engravement of TM31 now had a crack through the middle, but was otherwise the same as before.
“It’s cracked! Did I mess up?” Nelvana asked hastily, hold up the disc to show the other two.
“Nah, don’t worry about it, it’s supposed to do that. Means it worked,” Alex told her, placing a hand on her right shoulder.
“Oh, that’s good,” Nelvana sighed out of relief, “it’s a one-use item, almost forgot,” she added quietly, “but I don’t feel any different. Am I supposed to?”
“No, all it really does is make it possible for you to use that move. Think about how you started using your other moves. You just learned how to on your own, probably by instinct, right? It’s the same with TMs, you have to wait,” Keahi explained, “we should hold onto it until we get recycle though, that’s the only way to fix it. We should have room in the bag, right?”
“Right,” Alex agreed, taking the TM and putting it into the bag. “Let’s not stall for too much longer though, I’m roasting here,” he added.
“Oh right! Sorry! Let’s just grab what we need and then go!” Keahi exclaimed.
They collected some extra water, but there wasn’t much else that the trio decided that they needed, so they shut the chest and continued on their way into the dungeon. It became apparent without much time at all that Keahi was falling out, appearing lost in zir own thoughts.
“Hey Keahi, something wrong?” Nelvana called, pausing in place to look back at her partner.
“No! Nothing’s wrong,” Keahi replied, hurrying over to the others. “I was just thinking that I’m not really feeling nonbinary anymore. I think I want to be male now,” he told them.
“Oh! Good to know, so he, him, now?” Nelvana responded.
“Yup! Sorry for the holdup, I just wanted to feel certain about it before bringing it up to you guys,” Keahi hummed.
“That’s alright,” Alex hummed.
While it might have been because they were an experienced team, the trio found that the dungeon pokemon weren’t terribly difficult to fight. There was of course the odd torkoal that would mess them up with smokescreen, blocking their vision and hiding the opponent, but Alex was able to avoid that with dig, and either Nelvana or Keahi were usually able to hit it at least once before he returned to ensure that he could finish it off. The rest of the typical dungeon pokemon, some numels, magbies, pidgeots, were easy to handle within an attack or two, and they didn’t deal too much damage on their own. Nelvana didn’t figure out how to use brick break, but there wasn’t a need for it anyway. It was more the overbearing heat and the size of each floor that made the dungeon challenging. They found out quickly that there was in fact lava inside, luckily it wasn’t as hot as the actual lava outside, but it still burned and made everyone uncomfortable to have to walk by it when it turned up around their path. Conversation continued as they tried to keep their spirits high, it beginning to range in randomness as their tiredness grew.
As the smoke cleared from Nelvana defeating another torkoal, Keahi grew curious about something.
“Hey Nel, I don’t know if you would remember, but do humans have types? How do they fight?” he asked.
Taking answering the question into his own hands, Alex spoke up, “humans don’t have typing like pokemon do. They don’t have any specific weakness, but they don’t have any big resistances either. However, they can’t attack with this ‘type’, their default goes to either normal or fighting, but they also have this unique ability we called ‘improvised weapon’ that lets them use items to mimic pokemon moves.”
“Oh! I think I remember some of this now! Probably because it falls under information and not memories, but whatever! At least I can actually help answer this,” Nelvana exclaimed, “for example, you could take a rock and throw it at an opponent and it would like the move rock throw, or you could have a stick and use… wood hammer, I guess? These attacks wouldn’t be as strong as the actual move, but it let us have variety in our attacks, be unpredictable, and in general hold our own ground in battle,” she added.
“Woah, that sounds really cool!” Keahi chirped, “so you could technically use any move as long as there was an item for it?”
Alex nodded, “basically. It’s slightly more complicated than that, but that’s the basic idea.”
“What did Nel use? Did she have a favorite weapon?” Keahi asked, looking back and forth at each of his teammates, knowing that the grovyle would answer since he could remember, but still wanting to include the cubone.
“Nel had a sword! It was made out of stone and I believe usually dealt damage based off of stone edge,” Alex told the torchic, “really useful, especially since you can’t hit ghost-types with normal or fighting moves, which as I said, were the default for humans. Sadly it got left behind in the future…”
“Oh, that sounds neat!” Keahi responded, then tilted his head to the side slightly and paused from walking. “But… what’s a sword?”
“It’s this long-bladed weapon,” Nelvana began, shifting her grip of her bone club to hold it at the large end like the hilt of the mentioned weapon. “and you hold it like this. They’re supposed to be sharp and cut things, but stone isn’t really always that sharp, so it was more of a bludgeoning weapon than a slashing one.” She swung around the club as she spoke, demonstrating by attacking an invisible foe. “And it… it could… I…”
Nelvana trailed off, trying to keep speaking but her words dropped to the ground and she couldn’t manage to keep them up. She froze in place, her only movement for a few seconds being her hands shaking ever so slightly. As she stared blankly at her weapon, something seemed to flicker in her eyes for a moment before she regained focus. She stood up straighter, and flipping the club so she was holding it as she should before looking at her partners, who shared expressions of concern.
“We should keep going,” Nelvana told them before hastily walking out of the room much too stiffly.
Neither grovyle nor torchic did anything for a moment, until Alex let out a sigh and followed the cubone with a glimpse of a knowing look in his eyes. Keahi hesitated before hurrying after the others as well.
As the notes on the back of the map had said, there were only twelve floors before they reached the special floor. Unfortunately, this room was only slightly cooler than the rest of the dungeon, not making much of a difference to any of them. Similarly to at Mt. Thunder, the only thing in the smaller room was a large stone statue. However here the statue was of Moltres, standing stiffly with a sharp gaze and flames jetting from the head, wings and tail. It was beautifully carved, and unlike the storage statue outside, this one was more preserved due to being inside and being touched less. Its age still showed though, small cracks lined the rock, fading out the details.
“Guess this really is where Moltres rests,” Keahi murmured, “there was one of these statues for Zapdos back at Mt. Thunder,” he added for Alex, who hadn’t been there.
“I knew that, but thanks,” Alex replied.
Despite the heat and wanting to get through the dungeon as soon as possible, the trio took the time to pause for a bit and regain the energy. They all enjoyed some refreshing water and snacks, making sure to check for any burns on them from the recent battles that needed to get fixed up properly.
Nelvana used some of this time to study the statue a bit more closely. She furrowed her brows at it, finally reaching out and tracing out a chunk of one of the wings, as if marking out cracks that weren’t there yet.
“Moltres is awake, and they will fight us. There won’t be any talk,” Nelvana suddenly said, turning around to face the others.
Keahi jumped in surprise, his feathers fluffing up reflexively, “what? Why? H-How do you know?”
Nelvana didn’t answer. To her, it made perfect sense that Moltres would attack them right as they made it out of the dungeon. She could practically play the scene out in her head of the legendary swooping down and blasting fire at them. However, she couldn’t figure out how or why she knew this. Attempts to think about it fell flat, it was just something she felt certain about.
“Is there anything else we should know about this? Anything else… familiar? Or more specific warnings?” Alex asked patiently instead.
“No…” Nelvana murmured, “not that I can think of.”
Alex gave her a small smile, “alright,” he said before straightening his posture. “We all good to go then?”
“I… Okay, I’m ready then,” Keahi told them.
Nelvana nodded, and they proceeded up the stairs to the next floor.
They headed through the next two floors similarly to the earlier twelve. The only real difference was that the only dungeon pokemon on these floors were fearow and arcanine, but after the initial intimidation at the larger final-staged pokemon, they were surprisingly easy to handle in battle, only needing to be hit a few times before being taken down. Unfortunately, the sweltering heat only worsened as they continued upwards, Nelvana saying it was because heat rises, but no one was terribly interested in random facts at the time.
It was at the third floor since the special safe floor, and the fifteenth floor in total, that what was a simply and frustrating and slightly challenging dungeon, turned into a disaster as the ground began to shake from under their feet; another earthquake. That in itself wasn’t that big of a bother, everyone had dealt with earthquakes before. But the heat increased dramatically, lava bubbled angrily, and the stone ground cracked from beneath everyone’s feet, splitting apart into small islands atop the burning lava around them.
Keahi yelped, digging his tiny talons around the stranded piece of stone that he was left standing on. He stared down at the liquid fire flowing around him before looking up at his teammates with a wide, panicked look. Nelvana stood stiffly on her own chunk of ground, trying to stay stable as her spot rocked back and forth with the world rumbling from the natural disaster. Alex crouched nervously on his spot, drifted further away from the other two.
Nelvana turned sharply to look at the grovyle, “run! Just go! Find the exit!” she yelled at him, “don’t worry about us, we have a resistance, but you have a weakness! Just go!” she added.
Alex hesitated, but nodded and bolted away, leaping from one rock to the next until he disappeared around the corner in a flash. Nelvana let out a soft sigh and eyed the stones up ahead, planning out her own pathway in her mind.
“Umm… if you can go, I can follow! You’re faster than me anyway, I shouldn’t take the lead!” Keahi called out in a wavering voice.
“Okay!” Nelvana replied, giving the torchic a comforting gaze before taking off.
Nelvana leapt from one tiny ground island to the next, letting herself move with only thinking of where to go next and nothing else. No distractions; she couldn’t afford that. She couldn’t afford to slip up, especially since Keahi was counting on her to lead the way.
The earthquake had long since ended, but the effects continued as more rocks fell from the walls around them into the lava. Thankfully not a cave-in like at Scorched Plains, but still unstable.
They looped around the corner, which luckily had the stairs, they could see Alex up at the top waiting for them nervously. Unluckily, the stairs were gone. Broken away and fallen into the lava below, leaving only a couple of the steps at the top left.
“C’mon over here! You’ll have to jump for it!” Alex yelled down to them.
Nelvana glanced back at Keahi for a moment. The small torchic couldn’t jump like that. They both knew it. But they had to try.
Nelvana narrowed her eyes and forced her tired legs to pump faster, breaking out in a full sprint towards the way to freedom. As she got closer, she threw her club up at the exit to Alex, not slowing down at all. Alex caught the club, and backed up for when the cubone would make the leap. She did, jumping up at the last possible moment to get the most distance as she could. She reached out and latched onto what was of the stairs, and swiftly pulled herself up to safe ground, panting tiredly.
Then, it was Keahi’s turn.
Keahi ran over, following all the jumps to each floating stone that Nelvana had just made, finally reaching the last one. He hesitated for a split second before making the leap, pushing all his strength into making it.
But he fell short, and couldn’t grab onto the ledge like she had.
A shrill scream escaped Keahi’s beak as he realized that he wouldn’t make it. That he was falling. Falling to his immediate doom. He forced his eyes shut, blinding him from his fate.
Then the air was forcefully knocked out of him as he hit something solid. Keahi’s eyes shot open and he latched onto whatever caught him with every fiber of his being. Looking around, he saw that he had been caught by Nelvana’s bone club. She had lunged after him to use her weapon as a perch for the small fire bird, and Alex had grabbed her to make sure they wouldn’t both fall.
“You guys caught me!” Keahi exclaimed in a gasp, smiling widely at his teammates.
“Of course! We aren’t going to lose you!” Nelvana replied.
With a tug, they pulled up Keahi safely with them outside of the dungeon. Knowing there would be an upcoming battle, the trio paused to have some more water and make sure the bag was organized properly if a berry needed to be pulled out quickly. They sat just outside the dungeon for a few moments, but not for too long, since the heat was getting dangerously bad at this point and they needed to get off the mountain.
Deciding not to delay things any longer, Team Galaxy got back up and began to walk towards the trail down the mountain. They had only gotten a few stride lengths away from the dungeon’s exit when they heard a loud screech come from the sky. Looking up, they could watch the smoky blue sky fade into a dark red, and the silhouette of a large bird fly overhead. It screeched again, and then looped around to behind the team, swooping down and blasting fire at them.
All of them scampered out of the way of the attack, Keahi rushing to the right and the other two to the left, but Nelvana froze for a split second and grabbed Alex’s arm.
“Look out!” she yelled, tugging him with her further aside.
Alex stumbled after her, looking confused at this action, they were already out of the way of the fire breath. But just then, a spout of lava burst out of the ground where the pair had once been. Alex looked in shock at what could have happened before turning to his partner, who appeared zoned out.
Nelvana’s heart pounded. What just happened felt like a horrible sense of déjà vu. She couldn’t stop thinking about it, and how familiar it felt. How did she even know that would happen in time to safe Alex? She didn’t know, and it hurt her head, trying to figure it out. It scared her, how she had just barely saved her partners back to back. She couldn’t focus. She couldn’t understand why this felt so familiar when she knew that it hadn’t happened before. She knew it hadn’t happened before, so why did she know?
Nelvana blinked, the fuzziness leaving the edges of her sight, letting her see Alex looking at her with a small, comforting smile.
“You okay? Moltres went back up to the sky to loop around, you ready to fight again,” Alex asked her softly.
“Yeah, I am, I’m ready. Thank you,” Nelvana replied after a pause to let the information set in.
“Okay, let’s do this then,” Alex hummed before standing up and wandering a bit further away.
Now the three Team Galaxy members were organized in a triangular formation, ready for Moltres to land, ready to fight. As predicted, Moltres returned not long after everyone was in place, and they landed in the center of the group, not caring that they were now surrounded. Moltres dove in to attack Nelvana, spitting out another jet of flames, which she barely dodged. Running around, Nelvana darted at the legendary, getting too close for more fire attacks, and whacked them with her club. Moltres stepped back, ready to attack her again, but got interrupted by bullet seeds in the head.
“Hey! Over here you big ugly bird!” Alex yelled, jumping back and forth in place, spitting another set of bullet seeds at the legendary.
Moltres narrowed their eyes at the grass-type, and shot some more flames at him. Alex nimbly leapt out of the way, continuing to taunt and distract the fire bird. Moltres continued trying to attack the grovyle, growing more and more irritated as none of the attacks hit, and the jeering continued. Nelvana grinned as it became increasingly apparent that Alex was just too fast for the larger foe.
Taking advantage of her opponent being distracted, Nelvana took a moment to focus, then to continue hitting Moltres with her club. She could feel the strength behind her hits, each hitting with increasing energy flowing through her. This gained back Moltres’ attention quickly, and they whipped their head around to face the cubone. Keahi, however, had been expecting this and immediately kicked a cloud of sand at the legendry’s face. Moltres reared back, shrieking at the temporary blindness. They began spewing fire all around them, but it wildly missed everyone. Nelvana and Keahi continued to work together to attack during this moment of weakness.
Alex grinned, seeing the opportunity as well and he readied himself to attack as well. He curled his left hand into a fist, and sparks of electricity began to dance off it. Nelvana could fell the slight pull of the static, but her lightning rod ability didn’t activate, letting her ally make the attack properly. Alex leapt up, delivering a thunder punch to Moltres before kicking off of them and landing on the ground again. Moltres opened their eyes again, glaring at Alex. Some sort of lavender energy pulsed off of the large bird for a split second, making the trio wonder what move had been used.
That question was answered as in the next split second, Moltres thwacked Alex with the flat end of their beak, sending him flying into the air. Nelvana watched in horror as it clicked; Moltres had used agility, they were now faster than the grovyle.
Moltres smirked, and then sent another jet of fire at the flailing grovyle. Nelvana’s breath hitched, and she could see Keahi flinch out of the corner of her eye. But she also saw Alex just barely avoid the attack, using dig and diving into the ground just as the fire was aimed and shot out. It seemed that she was the only one who noticed this though, as Keahi began shaking behind her and Moltres’ smirk grew. To inform her teammate that Alex was safe, Nelvana tapped the ground with her club to get the torchic’s attention, and then pointed to the ground. Keahi appeared confused for a moment, but then it clicked, and he nodded.
Moltres, who was still unaware of what actually happened, turned to look at the remaining duo, “no reaction? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, human. Do you really care for us pokemon at all?” they hissed.
Nelvana and Keahi exchanged looks of surprise at Moltres’ comment. How could those rumors gotten all the way out here, out where no one dares to travel?
“What? What are you talking about?” Keahi responded, “of course she cares!”
“Don’t play dumb with me,” Moltres spat, shifting their gaze to Keahi for a moment before glaring at Nelvana again. “I’ve been warned as to who she really is. I won’t be letting someone like you leave my territory alive.”
“Hey, uh, I don’t know how you heard about that, but I think you’ve got your humans crossed. I’m not from the Ninetales Legend,” Nelvana replied, fiddling with the weapon in her hands anxiously.
“Yeah! She wouldn’t betray someone like that!” Keahi yelled, “look, is that why you’re fighting us? Honestly, she isn’t from the legend, and we’re actually going to go visit Ninetales if you want proof. We’ll just quickly pass through and-“
“Ha! Don’t try to trick me, I’m not a fool! If I let you leave, you’ll just escape and cause more disasters! Well, I’m smarter than that! Smarter than you, Torchic, and that Grovyle, for trusting this human scum so blindly. And you may have beaten my brother Zapdos, but I’m the strongest of this trio, you won’t beat me! I’ll make sure that- Ack!!” Moltres’ speech was cut off abruptly as Alex shot back out from underground, delivering the legendary the gift of being punched and kicked before he disappeared back underground again. “Wha- who did that!” Moltres snapped, spinning around in a poor attempt to find out who had just attacked them.
“My partner did, you jerk!” Nelvana growled, racing back over and attacking Moltres again herself.
“Yeah!” Keahi huffed, puffing out zir feathers. “And we are all going to beat you, together!” he added before following the cubone and scratching Moltres’ legs.
Moltres shrieked before flapping their wings and taking to the sky to avoid further damage to themself. Alex popped out of the ground again soon afterwards, but he wasn’t able to hit the legendary with dig alone anymore.
Moltres laughed, “can’t hit me now, can you?” they taunted.
“Joke’s on you! Yes, we can!” Nelvana yelled back as she threw her club up at the large bird.
Moltres, who wasn’t expecting the club to reach them, didn’t try to dodge and ended up being hit by the bone twice before it fell to the ground again, where Nelvana hurried over to retrieve it. Moltres blinked incredulously, but then regained their composure and sent another jet of flame at the team, which they could only just barely dodge at this point with the legendry’s boosted speed.
Alex skidded to a halt after the flames stopped, his left hand now pulsating with a dark energy. He watched Moltres carefully, until he suddenly leapt up, almost teleporting up to the height of the flying pokemon, giving them a pursuit attack before dropping to the ground again, a bit more awkwardly than hoped.
Moltres took this chance and dove down again, spreading their wings open wide to hit all their opponents with. The large wingspan combined with the legendry’s speed was too challenging to completely dodge, and all three of them were hit, the force of the attack knocking them over, forcing them to waste time getting back up while Moltres flew back up into the reddened sky.
Nelvana gritted her teeth together, gripping her club tightly in her hands as she surveyed her partners. This was the first time Keahi had been hit by the legendary, so he was doing fairly well. On the other hand, Alex had suffered a couple hits beforehand and wasn’t looking in the best shape compared to the torchic. Being overheated didn’t help his health either.
Then, the grovyle glared up at Moltres, and his pupils turned a dark forest green. Overgrow had been activated. Alex wasted no time with his ability activated and began shooting Moltres with bullet seed again. Nelvana made sure to back him up with a couple more bone club tosses, which she wasn’t sure whether to qualify them as bonemerangs or not yet, and even though the fire-flying-type resisted it, Keahi sent up a couple embers at them.
Finally, Moltres dove down again, and Alex took this chance. The leaves on his arms glowed as he leapt up and slash the large bird with them several times before hopping off at a safer spot. With Moltres distracted again for a moment, Nelvana and Keahi jumped in for some more melee hits. Moltres screeched and sent more flames flying around the peak, luckily their rage worsened their aim, and the team was able to dodge this attack. As a final grass-type attack, both of Alex’s hands glowed with a green energy, which he threw at Moltres. This energy surrounded the bird for a few moments before returning to the grovyle, visibly healing some of his wounds, but not enough to deactivate his ability.
This bombard of attacks forced Moltres to land again, which the trio had been waiting for. Alex’s left fist sparked with electricity again, and he sent the legendary another thunder punch. At the same time, Nelvana headbutted Moltres’ legs, tripping them with the force of two attacks. Keahi made sure to contribute with a peck on Moltres’ side. Moltres tried regaining their balance by flying away again, but their wings only hit the ground awkwardly, disrupting their balance even more, causing them to tumble off the side of the mountain, disappearing off the side.
Nelvana, Keahi, and Alex slowly walked over to the edge of the peak to see where Moltres wound up. It appeared that they had fallen about halfway down the mountain before being caught on a ledge. The legendary wasn’t moving.
“Is… Are they dead? Did we kill them?” Keahi whimpered, glancing at his teammates nervously. “I know they were trying to kill us, but I didn’t want to…”
“I’m sure they’re fine, just unconscious. It takes a lot more than that to kill a legendary,” Nelvana assured Keahi.
“Here, lemme check just in case,” Alex added, and then spat a single bullet seed down at Moltres.
Moltres’ eyes shot open, glaring up at the team who was worriedly peering down at them. The flaming bird tried to fly back up, but struggled where they were and couldn’t manage to get back up properly.
“Yup, they’re alive,” Alex hummed, “and we should get going.”
“We’re just going to leave them like that?” Keahi asked, looking from the grovyle to the legendary and back.
Alex nodded, “don’t worry, they’ll be fine. But if we give them too much time to recover, they’ll just attack us again. I believe they’re pretty pissed. I think we damaged their ego most of all,” he told the torchic.
As if they were listening, Moltres shot anther jet of flames up at the team, but the attack didn’t reach them, the fire licking the edges of the rocks.
“Yeah… you might be right, let’s go…” Keahi murmured.
The torchic and grovyle began to leave, but the cubone stayed put.
“Something wrong?” Keahi asked, turning around to look at Nelvana.
“No, nothing. Just give me a sec, I’ll catch up,” Nelvana replied.
There was a pause, but then Keahi nodded and began leading Alex on the path down the mountain. Nelvana watched the pair get out of sight before looking down at Moltres again.
“I’m sorry that you think poorly of me. I don’t know who told you the lie about me being the human that abandoned Gardevoir, but I’m not that human,” she told Moltres, “we never lied to you. We’re heading to see Ninetales and get some backup to the truth. She lives at the Frosty Peak, which is past the Frosty Forest. Both very much outside your territory. I hope you don’t try to follow us, but know that if you do, we will defeat you again. And if we have to fight Articuno as well, we will defeat them too,” she explained, “I hope that you get back up to this peak soon, and that you can accept the truth about this legend as well. Until then, goodbye Moltres.”
Nelvana didn’t wait for a response, she turned away and headed off to follow her partners down the trail, away from Mt. Blaze.
