The next day Colonel Sutterlin had me on a B-17 flying to Orly Field in Paris.

Crosby was taken to the United States Strategic and Tactical Air Forces (USSTAF) Headquarters and shown around. He was given a tour of the massive estates they occupied and ate in ornate dining halls with other high ranking officials and just as many beautiful women.

“If I became USSTAF Navigator, I would be the navigation advisor for the whole of air warfare in Europe and Africa. I would also become a full colonel.”

But during a conversation with a Captain Thatcher, a man Crosby had initially disliked because he was “too pretty”, it quickly became clear they didn’t just want Crosby for his navigational abilities.

"You've got the job if you want it. To be honest, much of our job is that we have to impress people. We have to convince people who don't know what we are talking about. The fact that you were an original member of the Bloody Hundredth who survived, the fact that you flew all the long and hard ones, means that you are what we want.“

He would get promoted to Colonel, a feat only a very very select few navigators had ever achieved, and yet he wouldn’t have to fly any more missions. Most men would jump at the opportunity to live such a life of luxury.

But not Harry Crosby.

Before we landed at Thorpe Abbotts, I knew the answer.

USSTAF was not for me.

I did not know how I would succeed at impressing people. I did not know how I could convince people about stuff which I did not understand myself.

I stayed with the 100th where I was pretty sure I was good at what was expected of me.

“Simon,” you almost yell through the kitchen. You’re on tippy toes, trying to reach for that one mug but it was just out of your reach.

You huff, giving up and start to nervously tap your fingers against the counter. “Simon,” you call for him again and suddenly a pair of arms wrap around your stomach.

You shriek, flinching at the sudden touch. “What’s it lovie?” he asks, amusement clear in his voice. He presses a gentle kiss to your neck.

“Can you hand me that mug,” you clear your throat, trying to hard not to get flustered. He knew how he was able to throw you off at any moment.

“What mug?” he asks, his hands leaving your waist, wandering down to grab your hips.

“That one,” you tell him, your finger pointing into its direction. “I need it so measure the rice,” you explain to your boyfriend, turning around to face him.

He smirks down at you while his arm reaches for that damn mug, caging you in against the counter. You swallow. Shit, he had power over you…

Simon places the mug besides you, that shit eating smirk not leaving his face. You raise your eyebrow, more than aware of the fact that he was planning something.

And then he lifts you up, his hands wrapping around your thighs with ease. You wrap your arms around his neck to steady yourself and let out a yelp.

“Simon!” you then scowl at him. “I told you not to pick me up!” He places you on top of the counter and pulls you in for a kiss before answering your question.

“I know. I don’t care,” he mumbles, his mouth trailing down your neck, his hands playing with the hem of the shirt you were wearing—his shirt.

“I’m heavy Si,” you say in a pressed voice, well aware of your weight at that moment. “You could hurt yourself,” you continue but he stops kissing your neck and looks in your eyes.

“Ya ain’t heavy t’ me.” He slightly tilts his head, confused by your statement. “‘nd I ain’t gon’ injure myself fr’m carryin’ ya.” He pulls you in for another kiss.

He knew your insecurities and he wanted to do his best to take them away from you. He even started training with heavier weights in the gym to be able to hold and carry you.

He ain’t gonna let you walk around like you weren’t his one and only love and girlfriend. You deserved to be spoiled, just like any other girlfriend or wife.

You want to open your mouth to say something but he silences you with another kiss. “Y’know what?” he humbles. “Gon’ carry ya ‘round the flat just t’ prove ya wrong.”

You wanted to complain but he didn’t let you. He picked you up again, urging your legs to wrap around his waist and then he left the kitchen.

He would show you that any man could, if he wanted to.

“Hey Sweetheart,” John mumbles as he leans down to press a kiss to your lips.

You sit on the couch, legs tugged under your body. “Hi,” you return the kiss, your hand immediately finding its way to his cheek.

“How was work?” you ask in a gentle voice as he sits down beside you and leans against your body. You start playing with his hair and he lets out a satisfied hum.

“Though,” he mumbles, his eyes closed already. “How was yours?” he then asks in return while his hand finds the way onto your thigh. He starts to gently caress it with his thumb.

You purse your lips before you answer. You promised you’d be honest with him. “Been getting some dumb comments again,” you quickly say, hoping he’d just take it but you already knew he wouldn’t.

No matter what, John always defended you and told you to ignore what other people told you.

You normally tried to take that advice but life was hard as a plus-sized woman, who was also short. You practically got shit from everyone.

“Don’t listen to them, Sweetheart!” John immediately tells you, his grip on your thigh slightly fastening. “They don’t know what they’re talking about.”

You let out a small chuckle at his enthusiasm. “You think so?”

He huffs, turning his head to look up at you. “I don’t think. I know. You’re my wife for a reason, no?” He starts to smirk as he leans up to kiss you.

You deepen the kiss and before you can even blink he pulls you into his lap, your legs on either side of his hips.

“Am gonna suffocate you,” you mumble between kisses as his hands wander to your hips to squeeze them.

“Bullshit,” he breathes out, pulling your hips down so you’re really sitting on his laps. “I’m a grown man. You ain’t gonna hurt me with anything.”

You grin into the kiss, pulling his closer to you with your arms around his neck. “Have I ever told you I love you?” you ask him after ending the kiss, leaning your forehead against his.

“Everyday…” he whispers, hugging your close. “And everyday I find myself loving you more than the day before…”

I just realized I haven't made a Jace and Jerry one for this (sorry xD). This one will be probably shorter since I want to insert 4 characters at a time in posts (I hate text limits lol). Unpopular opinion: He deserves more love and support from the fandom. Just look at him he's just too cute man.

Anyways, we all know that behind his tough shell Jerry is actually a fluff ball. So it's no problem socializing and befriending him out of pure kindness. He's super nice to everybody trust me (except from his enemies of course).

Like most of the boys, Jerry likes kind and humble women. He's also attracted to very short ones since he founds them really cute especially if they're the same age as him. He's the type to give you piggy backs when you're legs hurt from walking 🥺. He'll also the type to be protective and he'll always walk you to home after school too.

He would also appreciate your friendly personality especially when you don't judge him by his looks. Most people were pretty scared of him since he doesn't look like a "normal student" or the others often mistaken him as a father lol. He still can't help but to be a bit insecure sometimes but he just brushes these things off making him more a bit confident about himself. So being a warm goofball, being loyal and honest to him can really catch his attention and you can form a special bond with him.

Headcannon: Like Eli, Jerry also likes women who can be helpful in the kitchen/household chores. Because of the Workers always creating trouble, it's hard for him to relax and rest so cooking his comfort food for him makes him happy. He'll also bake with you if he has the free time!

And Jerry also likes a woman who's not only kind to others but also very gentle with animals. He'll also share you pictures of little pups and kittens he saw on the street and he'll feel a bit bad when you scold him since you're worried that the stray animal will bite him lol (but he knows that you're just worried about him so he's not really pissed off at you and he always reassure you that he's careful when approaching stray animals). "Look Y/N I saw this poor kitten on the street let's take care of it!" your bf exclaimed as he carries an orange/ginger cat wrapped on a soft towel. "Jerry, are you sure? Doesn't that bite your hand? It's probably infected." you scolded him as he has that puppy eyes again which will work on you again, bastard. "Can we keep it? Please?" he pleaded as you sighed knowing that you can't stop him from adopting the animal. Besides the it looks pretty cute too. Jerry will also pair up with you in music class if you can play a musical instrument or if you have a decent singing voice if you don't mind. He can't help but stare at you when you're focused in singing or playing your instrument of choice, he finds it really cool! (Now imagine a Lookism Musical/Band AU that would be lit).

This mochi looking guy is super gentle with you which facades his tough persona when he's out to protect Jake, Big Deal and especially his sweet, kind and polite girlfriend of course. He's also warm and cuddly like a teddy bear so there's no problem with hugging him! (He'll often ask for permission if he can hug you. Respect).

Jace Park (Park Bum Jae)

Another one who's underrated af. Like I want to give this man a hug (and also child support).

To be honest he's not the type to look out or approach women. Heck, he'll be the type to say that he would rather die than stay on the Earth with only one girl who he doesn't even know. But we all know that he's a hopeless romantic deep inside. So his chances with getting a girlfriend can be pretty low (it's just his self esteem getting in the way).

But he can't help but to stay at a woman's side when she's nice, gentle, smart and fun to hang out. He can really relate and look up to a girl who seems to be relatable. You can form a special relationship with him if you're the type to read books or if you're the type to be chatty with new interesting ideas and theories with entertaining topics. With these traits like this you can easily get Jace's attention. But after that incident when the girl he was crushing on was actually a spy, his trauma just got worse.

Headcannon: He has trust issues to almost everybody. The only ones he has faith in was no other than Vasco and Burn Knuckles since he has devoted his heart on his gang that he can consider a loving family now (also Allied but not too much he's just helping them out for business). So what's the most important fundamental on a woman for him is that having a trust-worthy girlfriend. It just warms him up more and made him willing to socialize with others. It will take a lot of times to actually approach him since he's already being cautious. But knowing that Jace is smart and it's just his feelings getting in the ways sometimes, he might start talking to you.

And we all know that he's been bullied, used and hurt a bunch of times. And not wanting to appear as vulnerable and weak, he often has to put on this tough persona. But having a girlfriend whom he can trust and who will actually listen to his problems/attentive/good listener can make his stress less worse. And of course, if he really loves and appreciates you a lot he's willing to listen to your problems too and give the best advices that he can give.

He's also insecure about his ears. So having a someone who's standards in looks are not too high can boosts his confidence. He really likes it when you play with his ears despite him denying it. He doesn't like other people touching him but if it's massages coming from his someone I'm pretty sure he can't resist it. He loves your soft hands but it just depends on his mood honestly. If he's working/studying it can be a bit annoying if you start being clingy but he can't control himself from cuddling with you either. "Wow, Jace your ears are so soft like marshmallows." you fondled with your "best friend's" ears as he is reading a book. "Y/N... I'm doing something important." he groans as you won't stop playing with his ear lobes, but it honestly feels good. His inner self was screaming internally like a firecracker wanting to explode. "C'mon now silly let's go to dinner. There's a new SamG place on the street!" you exclaimed as you held his hand almost making him stumble. You can see the redness on his face reaching to his ears.

Breaking his trust can be a huge problem in your relationship. So please be honest with him.

Vin Jin (Vin Ho Bin)

I hate him at first for bullying Duke but I kin him so much lol.

Unpopular opinion: I think Vin would like women who are up to his standards. If you have a pretty face, cool vibes, nice ass and big tits he'll be chasing after you lol. He's also pretty toxic especially if it's the start of the Lookism series. He let his anger take over him so he really needs someone who's emotionally strong, mature and understanding.

He also really hates whiny girls (the ones who tries to act cute but ends up being cringy lol). There's times that he may get turned on by this but if a woman act like this most of the times he'll get agitated. So just be yourself.

Vin also likes women who share his humor. Like if you're the type to make sex jokes or dark humor a lot (y'know the memes that you can watch on Youtube), he'll definitely be more relaxed and composed around you.

He also likes stubborn and competitive women (especially the ones who's shorter than him who acts so tough lol). He really gets entertained if you started challenging him about stupid things. "VIN JIN! LET'S ARM WRESTLE AGAIN!" you challenged the raven-haired male who's wearing that silly dark shade googles again making him make a smug. We all know he's insecure about having his pupil hyperplasia. He'll started softening up if he has a "girl friend" who will not make fun about his eye disease.

He also really likes women who can be easily teased. Especially when you deny that you really like him even when you act like an asshole to him lmao. "C'mon Y/N I know you find me hot. Just ask me out on a date already." he smirk as he can see the blush on your cheeks getting darker. "F-FUCK OFF WILL YOU! I DON'T HAVE A CRUSH ON YOU!" Long story short, this post is gonna be a big shout out to both @kyubeys-contract and @the-ravenclaw-werewolf . I took the girlies from main character syndrome and pondered wether they would accept Kyubey's contract, the oned that way yes, get their own PMMM form and a possible Witch form in the future.

Anyway, here's the girlies who would say no:

-Kobayashi: Pretty obvious, she's smart, she's a grown-ass woman and she's already not impressed with the magical shit in her own universe, her ass would NOT want to be a magical girl.

-Haruhi: This one I had to think about a bit, and I said no because A. she's smart and B. I'm not really sure what she would ask for since she's pretty satisfied with what she has like I don't even think she would remove the debt.

Again, she's a very humble girl so I don't know what she would ask for on her own (probably not being homeless now that I think about it), but if it's for someone else she would do it in a heartbeat. Probably something like breaking the Sohma curse or even making sure Kyo doesn't end up in the Cat's house and Kyo finding out later which is depressing to think about which is also cool.

2. Chika Fujiwara

Before I see the comments, I admit she is smarter than some people think and comes from a family of politicians and is working towards being a prime minister in the future. But, she is very impulsive and even more vain and is also a huge shoujo fan so she would immediately agree to be a magical girl, not sure what she would ask for but whatever.

3. Mako Makanshoku

On the flip side......Mako, you are a fucking treasure, you were what finally convinced me to watch Kill la Kill, I would never utter slander against you.....but unfortunately..... you're not very smart... if you want it to not be serious, she would probably ask for food, if not, helping her family financial situation ig...

4. Kae Serinuma

This is one I'm actually still not sure about as Kae is once again, one of those characters who is just kinda happy with what they already have but I also can't see any obvious reason she would outright say no (if we are ignoring the whole "meta-otaku" angle and she has watched Madoka, in which case, she would know to avoid Kyubey like the goddamn plague he is), she would probably ask for something silly like one of her OTPs becoming canon or something like that. Also while I was drawing, I was doing a Cardcaptor Sakura homage but I should've gone with Sailor Moon-Damnit.

5. Emma

I'mma be completely honest....I have not fully read TPN so I'm really insecure about the design. But, I think we can all agree that Emma is smart enough that she can sense Kyubey's shady af but.....they are gonna get eaten by demons, there's no way to go but up from here...

He has iconic hair. He also has a tendency to say ridiculous things when he's not reading a teleprompter. He likes drugs. His song lyrics are wack.

Aemond = Louis Tomlinson. Before the accident, he was Comet's main songwriter and level-headed leader. He was focused and ambitious without being arrogant. He was protective of the other Comet boys. He looks like an alien but is also fine af. He struggles with insecurity and feelings of unworthiness/aimlessness. He is often underappreciated.

that's not a weird question at all, @quirkle2! actually none of these are.

anime/manga siblings calling each other brother or sister out loud is actually happening in the original language. except the words used carry more detail than the subtitles allow: the nii in [o]nii-san means 'older brother'; nee in [o]nee-san is 'older sister'. while this is customary, expected and respectful, it is indeed awkward and stilted-sounding in english. this cultural expectation can present a bit of a headache for localizing teams: the direct english equivalents take more syllables to speak, so mouth-flap matching is impossible. hence 'brother' or 'sister'. imperfect, but gets enough of the intended message across. since english speakers sometimes find this distracting too, many english dubs just use the older siblings' names. the english mob psycho dub does this -- ritsu calls shigeo 'shige' instead of 'brother' there.

with respect to teruki: oh you're welcome! teru is usually polite around adults he respects, IIRC. i'd have to go back and listen carefully/refer to his dialogue in the manga.

also: if you haven't read the manga, you probably should. shigeo can be blunt AF in the source material and it's delightful; the anime shaved off some of his roughness. perhaps to make him more relatable?

the specific moment i was alluding to could be chalked up to early installment weirdness: it appears in the manga's first chapter. shigeo is visibly annoyed with reigen for calling him out at the last minute yet again, and asks him:

あんた本当に霊能力者か？ anta hontou ni reinouryok'sha ka? are you a real psychic?

and he's doing this on purpose. he's pissed off and DGAF about propriety. shigeo is actually an average student and struggles with reading social cues, but not when to use appropriate language for the situation he's in.

@brown-little-robin mentions speech registers above. japanese is segmented into different levels of politeness and/or formality, or registers of speech. for practical purposes, there's plain/casual/informal speech (kudaketa nihongo), polite speech (teineigo) and honorific speech (keigo). these all have further subdivisions of formality. and yes, plain formal speech is possible!

each register has a different vocabulary attached to it. as an example:

食らう・食う・食べる・食べます・召し上がる・���く kurau・kuu・tabéru・tabemásu・meshíagaru・itádaku rough/vulgar/'masculine'/rude・rough/vulgar/'masculine'・plain/casual・polite・honorific respectful・honorific humble

these verbs all mean 'to eat.'

i don't think there are any moments in the manga where shigeo is rude because he doesn't know any better not to use plain speech where he should be using polite word forms. the teenager just has no filter; voicing all of teru's deepest insecurities to his face would have been innocently insensitive in plain or polite speech.

different resources will divide or describe registers of japanese speech a little differently. i sometimes see desu/masu teineigo speech, the register most formal JSL learners are taught first, referred to as basic keigo. the distinctions are mainly linguistic in nature and of limited utility in practice, unless you're geeky about these things.

respectful speech is used to refer to/address others, and is used to elevate the listener; humble speech is used to refer to yourself, and elevates the listener by... lowering yourself in their eyes. it can get complicated. japanese folks themselves often need to study these advanced forms of speech.

I,, I appreciate this ask so much and will answer as best as I can, but I'm a very new student of Japanese and Japanese culture, so take what I say with a grain of salt! also I personally am going to tag @russenoire to respectfully invite them to partake in this conversation if they think it would be fun (no pressure of course!). they have been studying this much longer than I have :}

putting my thoughts under a cut because !!! I love to ramble!!! note: all of this is based on Dimple's Japanese voice & mannerisms from the anime. I don't have the manga in Japanese yet 🙏

As a preface: Ekubo's direct/rude/familiar speech style is typical in anime and not unheard-of in real life, but it's definitely worth noticing! Mob Psycho 100, particularly, gets a lot of its unique interest out of taking unrealistic anime expectations and saying "HEY pay attention to this, WHY is this happening, this is immature behavior, why are adults in this universe letting this happen", and making it funny and/or serious. So!!! let's dive in.

So, okay, Dimple's mannerisms. The first thing to know is very general. he usually speaks in the casual register (which has a whole distinct vocabulary from the more polite registers: for instance, he tends to end his sentences with "da" rather than "desu", which are both "is" verbs with the exact same meaning, just a different connotation). the casual register is comparatively... direct. Dimple using casual implies that he thinks of himself as on familiar terms with and/or higher in the social hierarchy than whoever he's speaking to. casual Japanese is par for the course in anime in general, especially for people expressing arrogance, like Ekubo does all the time. But still, that's A Choice. it expresses simultaneous superiority (I am allowed to speak to you in informal terms because I'm above you) and also, possibly, desire for closeness (Ekubo speaks to Shigeo in familiar terms like they're brothers).

(Politeness, respect, and distance are linked in Japanese. Casual language isn't always rude, but in the wrong situation, it can be jarring and disrespectful. Using casual Japanese is a sign of confidence and personal closeness in your relationship with someone—new friends will switch from formal to casual language at some point and typically never go back; siblings use casual language with each other as a matter of course. It's very situational.)

The second thing to know is, there are choices of first person pronouns in Japanese!!! And Ekubo's choice is spectacular. He refers to himself as "ore-sama". "ore" (roughly pronounced "o-ray") is one of two typical Japanese casual male pronouns, ore and boku. (the formal first-person pronoun for men is watashi). To my knowledge, "ore" was originally the only casual male pronoun, and then "boku" entered popular use as a more humble option and changed the meaning of the formerly more neutral-sounding "ore" by competing with it, which is fascinating. but I'm getting distracted. "ore" is the more aggressively masculine pronoun; it's considered rough/direct to the point of being rude in many contexts. And Ekubo doesn't just use "ore" (ore is a widely-used choice!), he adds the honorific -sama to the end. This is extremely macho. SUPER arrogant. It tracks with his desire to become a god: -sama is the honorific for kami as well as the honorific for people who are way higher ranked than you. giving someone the honorific -sama expresses a greater gap between you and them than -san does. this is hilarious to me. Dimple is over here referring to himself as 🔥 ME 👑 every time he uses first-person pronouns. (Mob uses boku, btw.) ore-sama isn't not used irl, but it's, uh. highly highly unusual, from what I can tell. sounds like a biker gang boss kind of thing to me—something someone on the fringes of society would use. no shade to those outside "polite society" from me, btw, I'm just stating the general connotation from a majority cultural perspective.

OH AND SPEAKING OF HONORIFICS. I'm guessing you've seen analysis of this before and/or just Get It from cultural osmosis, but Dimple calls Shigeo "Shige-chan" the second time they meet. -chan is a usually-affectionate diminutive usually given to girls younger than yourself or celebrities people find cute; I think they translate it as "li'l Shige" in the English dub? -chan has cutesy connotations and can be infantilizing if it's not used with permission and/or some kind of... y'know... familiarity and understanding between the person giving the honorific and the person being referred to with -chan. it is super disrespectful of Dimple to call Shigeo Shige-chan having just met him, and having gotten off on a terrible foot with Shigeo, no less. what the heck, Ekubo!!

And then Dimple proceeds to call him just Shigeo with no honorific at all, which is ALSO disrespectful?? given that Dimple doesn't know him, really?? too familiar, too abrupt! As a strange adult, he should be calling him Shigeo-kun! But he's treating Mob like a little brother. (For instance, as the older brother, Shigeo has the right to call Ritsu by the first name and only the first name, whereas Ritsu usually calls Shigeo "Nii-san". To my knowledge, that's not unnatural in Japanese the way it would be in English; it's not Ritsu reiterating their bond every five seconds, it's just the Expected Thing for the younger brother to refer to the older brother as "Nii-san" out of respect. you'll see the Shiratori brothers, Daichi and Kaito, doing the same thing if you pay attention. to each other, they are "Kaito" and "Nii-san". BUT ANYWAY)

Another Dimple regularly does that reads as arrogant/direct to me is sometimes speaking in a Really Low Voice. This is where my knowledge gets hazy—it's more about pronunciation and accent than "behavior" as such, so bear with me, but the general pitch of one's voice is important in Japanese. Girls and women tend to pitch their voices higher than their natural range in Japanese, especially when doing "polite" or "customer service voice". Japanese speaking men often raise their pitches for politeness/to express humility or a conciliatory attitude too, even though it's not as extreme as with women. And men who are performing aggression will often lower their pitch on purpose, creating a growling kind of effect. Dimple does this a lot. Let me see if I can embed a video of him doing it here

YES. OKAY. Listen to the difference between his mental voice and his spoken voice here!! Dimple uses a higher pitch when talking to Mob because he's trying to ingratiate himself with Mob, but then when he's muttering to himself, he reverts back to his evil-spirit, gang-boss, stereotypically-yakuza-sounding kind of... deep growl.

Relatedly, Ekubo rolls his r's. he rolls them hard. That's a really rough way of speaking, definitely not typical in "polite" Japanese. people learning Japanese are told not to roll their r's unless they want to sound like they're yakuza wannabes. (He also, to my ear, tends to kind of roll his vowels?? he puts his voice backwards in his mouth, pronouncing things either near his nose or deep in his throat, and kind of crushes them with his mouth as they emerge. I don't know if there's a word for this, but to my synesthesia it looks like his voice goes spiky. it's a COMPLETELY different sound than the smooth pronunciation of polite Tokyo-style Japanese. I don't actually have a point this is just interesting to me)

That's about all I have for now! I'm fascinated by Dimple's speaking style and what it says about him. Sorry this was more about accent than behavior—as far as behavior goes, I mean, he's weird. he's weird! as a ghost, he's not really a part of society and he just wanders around making fun of people, which would be rude in any culture. I have a whole Other rant about how Dimple improved as a person after Reigen started treating him as an employee and how that adds to MP100's theme of society and connection, but now is not the time. For an actual relationship and not just dating I think he can take a while if not a long ass time because he’s too much of a perfectionist and will work hard at making sure everything is right before getting into a relationship. When Jungkook is in a relationship he doesn’t fully feel like he can be emotionally vulnerable and instead will act mischievous and play around to hide behind vulnerability. It can tend to make the other person mad because they never know when he’ll actually be serious because he plays too much sometimes. There’s also playing up to peoples ideas of him. It’s not outwardly tricking people but allowing them to believe what they want and project their fantasies on him. It’s like a weird energy of wanting to rebel but also you feel stuck and want to please them so you don’t let them down. I think he overthinks legit everything and makes things a bigger deal in his mind than what it really is.

Another thing is he could have a tendency to stay with someone even if it’s toxic because of a mix of remembering the good times and also insecurities. There are big vibes of being emotionally stunted like I feel that he’s mentally a teenager still and even though he’s physically different and projects something different. His ideal type is someone who can come across as aloof, cold, excessively critical. On the surface they might look “normal” but on the inside their inner world is overflowing and they have an abundance of charisma and sexual energy. Honestly that could be a big reason why he likes that. There’s a big dualistic energy in them and appearing the best on surface level but underneath is really unpredictable and has the energy of unrequited love. I think he likes those types of people who don’t fawn over him like he’s the second coming of Jesus tbh. At first I was confused why your ideal type would be someone that seems manipulative af but it makes sense when Jungkook has a lot of deep dark shit he needs to work on from the other cards. I think it’s a big codependency thing and excitement that someone toxic can bring also the fact that this person is down for anything in the bedroom they’re not ashamed or shy about it. His idea of love is pretty distorted he thinks he needs someone who is as intense as he is but really it would be a bad combination especially with the lovers reversed. I’m getting especially that as long as he keeps going after these types of people, he’s never going to be with his “true love” for a lack of a better term. Basically not be with someone who is actually good for him. There could be third party bs but I’m getting more of an overindulged and addiction energy between both of them. Even if he knows they’re no good it’s just so intoxicating it’s like a damn drug to him and it feeds into his more animalistic side (I have no idea how to articulate this lmao) it’s like possessive nature. This reminds me a lot of the attachment types since there’s a lot of people like this who love a more avoidant person and I feel that Jungkook is probably avoidant himself so this is like home sweet home to him. It puts him in the cat chasing mouse position instead of the other way around. That emotionally unavailable energy is very appealing to a lot of people I guess especially when you’re used to everyone bending over backwards for you.

Thoughts: So you may be thinking, Rowan, why do you yell about the colorless war criminal so often? Well the answer lies in your honor the court hates to see a girlboss winning. Norman is a girlboss :) Yes norman is a tiny twink who can't lift a milk jug. And he is a girlboss :) Obviously I don't condone, um, eugenics and all, but that's not the point the point is that he satisfies my need for more characters like Levi motherfucking Calder from Unwind because I’m apparently an edgy 13 year old. Also all of his problems are violently things I can fix and I keep him around as a pet project because someone needs to give him a hug and slap him on the face

-is he albino? Not literally. Is his skin so pale he would catch fire if he went outside at noon? Yes.

-autism: Yes I’m aware that calling him autistic makes him, problematic rep by perpetuating the autism unfeeling savant stereotype whatever but have you considered i’m autistic and I’m projecting also he’s L with standards? Anyway traits of AuTism he has: hyper   fixation, canonically breaks and fixes things over and over because like ofc he does, doesn’t understand Emotion, hyperaware of body language at the same time as it all somehow flying over his head, low empathy, sensory experiences™, min maxed in certain areas, and I don’t think he’s got social interaction quite right? There’s something off about it

-gifted kid (derogatory) This is self explanatory but basically him being the smartest and the best in a competitive environment caused most of his issues, such as the perfectionism, the need to succeed, the lack of self esteem and ridiculously high expectations on himself, giving himself no breaks or time to relax, the “i must be productive with every second of my day or i will die” deal, the “peaked at 11” thing, the way in which he goes through life like there’s going to be a fucking test on it

-Eldest Daughter™ lmao. Norman’s always had to be mature, he’s always had to be the best, he’s always had to do the things Ray got out of bc he’s a snitch and Emma got out of because Isabella likes her. Norman gets respect from Isabella only if he excels, and her bar for him is astronomical. He doesn’t have the Mommy Issues that Ray has, but it’s because for him Isabella basically just reflected his expectations on himself, whereas with Ray it was more personal.

-low empathy (part of the autism thing): this one needs more explanation, but it’s not a bad thing in and of itself. Cognitive empathy is a thing and he can use it, but he does not instinctively understand other people’s emotions, or even recognize them properly, especially when the person is not like himself. This is obvious in Emma. Man has no fucking clue what’s going on in her head or why she does what she does, but he can predict what she will do in any given situation very well. He could understand the suicide attempt from ray he predicted more because Ray’s an easier equation to solve, and someone who’s more similar to him. I know he gets it because, well, motherfucker’s just as self desctructive as him, just in a more dignified manner.

-he’s got some sort of chronic illness. This is also me projecting and a headcanon but he’s got something going on, even before lambda pumped him full of growth hormones or whatever which they maybe should have Not Done but oh well. (I assume this just didn’t happen in the anime, since he’s still so fucking short) But he's So weak. He passed out when it was too hot. He passed out when it was too cold. He can’t open a pickle jar. His skin is too pale and he’s skinny af. He’s much more prone to sickness and probably has asthma too? But in the case that he did actually have something going on, I don’t think grace field would see the need to treat it, if it didn’t impact the quality of his meat? Isabella’s probably just “you have chronic pain and you get migraines? Great, take some tylenol and do some calculus.” Can’t say that probably helped anything.

personality type: ISTJ

Basically, he’s the most boring personality type to exist, and personally as an enfp i do not respect him. But basically this means he’s a fucking nerd that gets his projects done for school the day they’re assigned, is probably the president of the Anime Student Council™, and could probably get away with premeditated murder (ok actual istjs this is a joke don’t skin me)

The only trait that norman doesn’t have on the istj thing is telling the truth. Yeah, he values the truth, but like, that doesn’t apply to him, clearly. Bitch is a notorious liar.

The only other personality type he has any similarity with is intj, which is the same except it’s more rare and a purple theme instead of a blue theme. Sadly, that’s not him though, because although he can care more about some kinds of philosophy overall this isn’t the case and ray already occupies this personality type tbh. 

strengths and weaknesses: This one’s kind of obvious, but he is aside from the crazy insane intelligence good at planning. Extremely good at planning. He can predict any outcome and figure out how to prevent it, using all his resources. For example he’s physically weak and someone could literally just walk up and stab him, but it doesn’t impede his progress on his goals because he’s surrounded himself with strong, mentally inferior people who would die for him in a heartbeat. He never gets stuck in some “everything is shit and i can’t do anything” deal like Emma and Ray do, he always works through it and has confidence in his abilities (in as much as he will solve the problem or die™. Weaknesses other than his twink body include his Low Wisdom score. It’s funny how he’s often associated with an owl, the mans is 14. He thinks he knows what he’s doing. He doesn’t. Plus obviously his fundamental misunderstanding of so much of everything going on around him, the fact that he lies not just to the world but himself, his refusal to take care of himself and his incredible cowardice. His achilles heel is being forced to, actually confront his actions.

what he likes about himself: He does pride himself on his mental abilities, and his judgement, which in his opinion is the only correct opinion and the only correct way. In the past, he likes being seen as a leader, he likes being responsible for other people. He likes his ability to manipulate and lie, because he sees it as an asset, and I honestly think he enjoys being william minerva more than he enjoys being Norman. He prides himself on his unhealthy expectations and the fact that he is able to meet them. Honestly, he does think he’s better than everyone else, mentally, though it’s humbled by his self hatred. Cursed thought: If Norman had self esteem he would be light yagami. 

what he doesn’t like about himself/insecurities: Oh god, nearly everything. His appearance, his status, his superiority, his physical inability, his own mess of a mind, also have I mentioned his appearance. He’s obsessed with self control. He wants everything he sees wrong with himself gone. And I understand why having control of everything is necessary and appealing, everything for him has always been rigid and planned out from moment one, he was even more regulated in lambda, and though he desperately wants to Not Be Food, he has no idea what to do with the chains now that he’s broken out of them. So he just wraps them around himself. Regulates to an unhealthy degree when he sleeps, what he eats, when he actually takes even minimal care of his own problems, what he looks like, how much of himself he lets show, the expressions on his face, the literal thoughts inside his own head he will shut down if they are not Correct. It’s literal self harm. Norman, please stop it.

motivations/goals in life/general philosophy: To be honest, I’m not sure he knows what he wants. He sure thinks he does, he could sure give you a memorized answer, but it means nothing. He wants to excel. He wants Emma to be happy. He wants to be perfect and for that to make everything perfect. But he doesn’t realize everything he’s working towards will do pretty much the opposite of that. He’s a crippling perfectionist, and pretty much everything he does is motivated by his fear of failing. He picks the certain path, he doesn’t wait for anyone else, he doesn’t care if it’s not nice. Emma foils that a most of the time because he cares about her, but it can only go so far, especially after he’s had so much time without her to develop a Complex. His philosophy is very contradictory, basically the tokyo ghoul “everything bad that happens to you stems from a lack of ability”. All of his problems are his fault. All the world’s problems are his to fix. If he can’t fix them, it’s his fault, it’s because he wasn’t strong enough, and not being perfect condemns someone forever, including himself.

how he’s perceived by others vs how he actually is: In most people there wouldn’t truly be much of a difference, but with Norman things are different, because, well, most of his personality in grace field is a put on, as well as the tough guy dictator thing he radiates after lambda. How he appears to someone is determined by the context of their meeting- the kids at grace field see him as a nerdy, weakish, pretty boring kid who is really caring and kind. The researchers at lambda see an obedient, beaten down and perfectionistic boy. The lambda kids see him as an infallible leader, ruthless and genius, a good man who knows what’s right. But in truth none of that is him. It’s a fucking chess game to him, putting on different faces, lying and pretending and treating everyone differently. In truth? He’s a fucking coward. He’s scared out of his mind and he’s tired and he can’t take pain, he’s obsessed with reaching some goal he deems is necessary that in the end is going to be his death because he doesn’t want to face the consequences of his actions. He’s taken on the role of someone evil, though deep down he’s not, he feels it’s easier to live that way because it strips him of his conscience. 

interpersonal relationships: In general, Norman sees all relationships in a pretty dim light. He sees everyone as black and white, for the most part, and other people make no sense to him intuitively, he has to figure them out like a puzzle. He’s manipulative and not particularly kind, but he follows all societal expectations to a T, overly focused on his appearance and placing the person he’s interacting with into a Category™. So he can be truly kind, to people he feels deserve it, to people who he values and doesn’t see flaws in. He gets incredibly attached to people he loves, protective, though he often doesn’t take their own feelings on the matter into consideration, and he’s ruthless with anyone who he deems a bad person. With people he understands and relates to, though, things can be different. If he sees someone as like himself, he will drop all the social interaction police bullshit and cut to the chase of whatever he wants or needs from them, and he’s not very forgiving in any manner, if he thinks what someone did is actually bad.

Emma: Norman obviously cares a lot about Emma, and honestly views her as better than anyone else. He realizes her moral integrity and all of the things she has and he doesn’t, and admires it. Because of his black and white view, Emma is like an angel to him. She couldn’t do anything wrong if she tried. But he comes to treat her as something to be protected instead of respected, and although he realizes she wouldn’t like what he’s doing, he fundamentally cannot empathize with her and doesn’t try to understand her. Their personalities are very literally opposite. Norman really needs to fucking listen to her. And Emma needs to understand that Norman doesn’t have a single ounce of empathy and you really do need to spell it out for him. Emma can only convince him when she has logical reasons for her actions, which she, doesn’t often have. And Emma gave Norman too much slack, because she didn’t see past the surface, and Ray never wanted to warn her, even though he knew the dude was showing a bunch of red flags, because you know. It was kind of an unspoken deal between them. (on ray’s part)

Ray: His relationship with Ray is a lot more complicated than with Emma. He understands Ray, where he doesn’t understand Emma, and he can see right through anything Ray does. And this makes things really tense between them, because Ray doesn’t, take kindly to being psychoanalyzed. If someone perceives him he will deck them and Norman is just there silently perceiving him at all times when Emma doesn’t see it. They are both constantly in competition with each other, but they care about each other a lot, though it’s kind of in a derogatory way. They both recognize each other as fundamentally fucked up, and silently agree never to bring it up with Emma. They’re nice to each other when she’s around, but all pretenses disappear when she’s gone. Ray is always frustrated with Norman, because Norman’s never been intimidated by him, and though he tries his best not to be vulnerable around him, Norman can always see through it, whereas Ray can’t crack Norman’s fake fucking smile no matter what he does. Norman will always take Emma’s side, and doesn’t see Ray as a good person at all, but he still understands and can excuse him, he takes measures to be… worse than Ray, which is better in his mind, because it’s rational, and ‘not selfish’.

Isabella: She has always had ridiculously high expectations for Norman, and treats him kind of harshly compared to the others. Bitch has heat stroke and Isabella’s first question is a calculus problem instead of like, “are you ok”. She knows he doesn’t complain about anything ever and she doesn’t stop him from being Terrible to himself, because it makes her job easier. They want smart kids, not mentally adjusted kids. She does really care for all of them, but she basically overrides it, she gives them what they want, not what they need, lets them be exactly what they’re making themselves. Isabella is distant with Ray but gives him anything he wants, she’s close and super nice with Emma, but Norman is… it’s weird. Isabella is proud of him because he meets her astronomically high bar. But at the same time, Norman never really cared for her that much and has never pretended to. Once they discover The Thing, though, he has a revelation, and it doesn’t take him long to switch his entire perspective about her. He’s pretty much like. Oh. She’s like me. That explains it, time to treat her like I treat myself: fucking brutally. Passive aggressive as hell. The kind of energy the :) emoticon at the end of an email gives. He does like just go “yeah we should kill her” at one point, which. You know, ok. When he got shipped out it was hhhh really interesting because Isabella knew full well he knew he was walking to his death and Norman was like “are you Truly Happy?” and just went :) and she was like h u h and tried to get him to talk while they were walking there because she feels Bad about it and he just. Did not. He didn’t say a single word just kind of smiled menacingly at her and I think it was half a sort of rebellion and half because he viewed her as similar to himself and therefore felt no need to put up any front with her, no words were necessary for him to impart exactly how he felt about it

Lambda kids: His relationship with the lambda kids is weird and bittersweet. I think he really truly does care about them, they were in a similar situation to his and he wants them to get what they want. However it is not a healthy or beneficial relationship, they see him as a god and don’t realize that he’s killing himself to give them what they want, he’s basically adopted them when out of anyone norman’s the one that should least be in charge of kids. I think he’s honestly younger than them but I’m not sure if they even know. He acts like their fucking mom, and that’s from what he thinks mothers are like… like isabella?? Giving them what they want, not what they need, lying to them, showing a front, caring deeply for them but at the same time using them for his own ends. And it’s not helpful for him. He thinks he knows what they need, but what he’s doing is what they want. What they need is therapy,(and so does norman), and he doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with using them as weapons because they love him. It makes him feel good, to be seen as perfect, to have people who don’t know how weak he really is. But it’s only making him worse, and he’s enabling everything the lambda kids are doing wrong as well. They need like, Yuugo and Lucas. Some actual adults who are actually wise and have the ability and the knowledge to take care of them and understand their mental problems and maybe actually address them. And actually be nice to them. But um sadly. 

what he’s doing wrong: It’s pretty obvious, but… Norman, you maybe *shouldn’t* commit genocide? You’re not helping emma, you’re not making anything better. You’re not helping the lambda kids, you’re enabling them. You’re not helping your friends from grace field, you’re ignoring what they want. You’re not helping the world, you’re eradicating an entire race from the face of the earth and murdering the poor for the crimes of the fucking 1%. You’re not being a martyr, you’re a selfish piece of shit liar you little coward, you just want an easy way out and you want to die on your bloody fucking hill instead of admitting you’re wrong. Grow up, cringe little man.

why he went wrong: I think most of the reason this happened was the way he was raised combined with the kind of person he is. Norman would have turned out fine, if there has been good adults in his life who actually cared about his well being. Instead he got people who just wanted to control him and make him what they needed, and family who largely didn’t realize there was anything wrong. Ray being an ass to him most of forever probably didn’t help but well, that’s just Ray. Even then, he would have managed alright if he escaped with the rest of the kids because he would never have been separated from the experiences that caused the rest of them to realize demons weren’t all evil. In lambda he didn’t have anyone supporting him or telling him when things went too far, so he fell into relying on himself alone, pushing himself further with absolutely no limits. All he saw was enemies and allies, and things got stratified. He never had a lucas or a yuugo or mujika when he would have needed it, instead he found children who wanted him to be in charge and a world that made it so he had to be. Everything was an echo chamber for his worst thoughts, so they just became more and more dominant.

what he needs: To put it simply, he needs Emma and Ray to cut to the chase and slap him across the face and make him take care of himself. He needs to be forced to see everything for what it really is- this edgy 14 year old committing atrocities to feel better about himself? He needs to be told that what he’s doing is irrational, because in reality, it is. There are better solutions that he’s ignoring, both to his own suffering and the demons, and the way he’s going now no one will truly be happy because of it, that there is no requirement that things be perfect and this bullshit doesn’t make him stronger. He needs someone responsible to take the fucking dagger out of his hands. He also needs someone to babysit him and make him go to bed at a reasonable time.

-outrunning karma by alec benjamin: this one super applies because it calls him out for making shitty decisions, being manipulative and a liar, and having blood on his hands in a very calm and subdued manner, that he knows this is wrong and yet he chooses to keep running faster and faster towards destruction, that he means to escape it through death

-empty by boyinaband and jaiden: yes this is a song about anorexia yes it also applies to norman i’m not saying norman literally has an eating disorder (but honestly it wouldn’t be far out of character if he did) but metaphorically this applies to his method of ignoring his needs, both emotional and physical, in favor of seeming in control 

-toxic thoughts by faith marie: this one speaks to his gifted kid trauma. Man’s got perfectionism running his entire soul. He’s terrified of failing, because he’s always been at the very top, he’ll beat himself up over any miniscule mistake and forces himself to keep at bad habits that keep him Productive, but he won’t ask for help no matter how much he’s suffering because that would be failing, he fights with his mind, this song basically tells him “yeah i feel you but you need to stop that”

-no time to die by billie eilish: ignore the romantic overtones but this is emma and norman, emma who trusted norman and was lied to, betrayed, for norman’s greater good, and norman who refuses to feel or hurt because of it, who refuses to apologize or see himself as wrong, pushes forward because he’s going to Pass Away

-achilles come down by gang of youths: hhhhh it's like. His vibe. Obviously you can disregard the lifestyle specific shit but it's. It's achilles come down you have to understand it’s like the same deal as friend, please just like french and longer

-friend, please by 21 pilots: i feel like i don't have to explain this one but it’s more to the manga (not the anime where he kind of figures out he done did wrong by himself instead of committing unforgivable sins and still going yeah this is valid before emma is like holy fuck). He is like sorry emma I cannot fix anything I’m going to die :) *coughs blood* and emma going like stop it stop it stop it fuck you see you fucked up and i forgive you just stop don’t walk away while he’s like “no<3”

why im a repressed little norman kinnie even tho he’s my exact opposite: I don’t generally kin ppl like norman, honestly he’s an infj I have no clue how it happened but I’m pretty sure it’s because of my intense desire to project onto a little man who cannot lift a milk jug and has chronic pain and decides you know what I AM tired of being nice i DO wanna go apeshit. -He probably adopted much of his current personality from taking on the persona of william minerva. I’m calling him out for being like me, he’s a blank motherfucker, he absorbs personality traits from characters he plays! He’s just not in theatre so it’s a bit more intense!

-the first time he sees barbara Eating Demon Meat he kinda stares and goes oh cool! not for me and violently exits the room. Like it's hilarious bc he thinks that's really gross on a moral level though he understands why she would do it 

-Which is even funnier bc I’m not sure about the canon on this but there was That Chapter Cover that one time that kinda seemed to imply norman eating demon meat which i absolutely latched onto because I’m terrible. He was just politely eating it. With a knife and fork like why dude. As to a possible reason for him doing that I can come up with, of course barbara does it out of spite, but man we don’t know the properties, if it had some sort of painkilling aspect to it or it was like, caffeine, you know he would, but he would Definitely not talk about it

-I kinda disagree with what the anime did in episode eight? It was good I liked it and the imagery was fantastic but also have you considered Norman could not kill someone with his own hands if he tried, or even physically injure them? That’s what his minions are for shawty. That doesn’t make it any less bad, of course, but the manga captured it perfectly by the fact of he carries around a dagger and a scepter in the capitol battle, but he never even raises it out of more than intimidation. He walks through calmly like he’s not scared at all but he makes sure all the lambda kids do all the actual murder, he just stands there impartially, clearly The Mastermind, as the kids fucking murder the queen of the demons. And I think that’s more profound because he’s, a coward. And he doesn’t realize being the one who orders the strike makes you just as responsible as the one who sticks the knife in someone. The knife is just there to Compensate™  for the fact that he weighs like eighty pounds.

-he’s more of like lady macbeth (because he’s a girlboss) than macbeth himself. He has blood on his hands, but it’s the kind of blood that you can’t wash off. He never killed anyone himself, and he cannot admit he never would have been able to.

-the last thing is that there are definitely epic things about the anime, episode 8 was my favorite so far, goddamn that imagery and the bitch walking through the city while it burns down with the screaming asmr going on behind him my god. We stan. But like the downside of, letting Emma and Ray get to him before he commits first degree murder makes the whole thing lose a lot of his value. In the manga (oh my god look at me being a pretentious manga fan please) it fit more of his ideas- he never backed down, and he planned for Emma coming and trying to stop him. Of course he wanted Emma to stop him, he wanted it with all his fucking heart he was pleading for it to happen but the man wouldn’t give himself what he wanted if he was held at gunpoint. He knew she’d come and he made absolutely sure she wouldn’t be able to stop him. So when she came and he said “you’re too late”??? It kind of said it all, in the fact that he was disappointed that he got his way. He still thought he did the right thing, but deep down there where he shoved all his thoughts and feelings he desperately wanted to be saved from himself.

So yeah, those are my thoughts. Feel free to eviscerate me if these are not Correct he is just my favorite girlboss who I feel the need to yell at

breaking my silence to say i really do not understand the extreme vitriol towards suiryu. like, at all. yeah, he’s annoying, and also a showboating asshole, but in such an innocuous way. yes, the truck thing was lame af, but have we forgotten that other heroes literally tried to murder garou with zero hesitation? tanktop master tried to kill him based on a feeling. metal bat tried to kill him after the fight was already over and garou’s back was turned. genos tried to burn garou alive without a second thought. and if you want to make the case that this is acceptable/forgivable because they thought garou was genuinely dangerous, then why is it somehow weird that suiryu would also think this, especially since it’s apparently common knowledge that garou kicked the S class’s asses?? now, is that why suiryu went after garou? nah, it was for glory. but again...he is far from the only character to exhibit this trait.

i think suiryu (and the neo heroes) function as commentary on how heroes can easily abuse their authority if they’re mindlessly being violent towards people who have been typecast into a specific role. just like death gatling was commentary on how hubris and insecurity can manifest in ways that are actively detrimental to heroism. and just like how the S class calling for garou’s execution was commentary on how inhumane people can be when they feel threatened. or how fubuki is commentary on how heroes can abuse their status to form a cult to bolster their ego. suiryu going after garou felt like it was drawing attention to garou’s critique that heroes often mindlessly obey orders and roles. “oh, you said this dude needs to be captured? cool, i’ll just do it without thinking about it, and i’m okay with violence if it’s directed at someone who’s ‘bad.’“ yes, that’s wrong. but again. the hero association’s heroes did the exact same shit?! which the story also critiqued?????

pretty much every character is severely flawed, and suiryu’s flaws have been demonstrated to be just...not that serious or unresolvable. in fact, i’d say suiryu’s flaws are extraordinarily mild compared to the majority of the cast. his flaws are just that he’s arrogant and shallow and a bully. but dude, we have a hero who is a serial rapist and other heroes who are legit murderers who don’t get as much hate as suiryu. you cannot make any reasonable case that suiryu being a douchebag fuckboy is worse than being a murderer (or even a hero hunter, tbh, and i love garou to bits). 

in fact, i appreciated that he wasn’t trying to kill garou, and actually tried very hard to pull his punches when he realized it was out of control. that is way more than i can say for the majority of the heroes. i’ve long been extremely bitter about how self righteous the heroes were without reflecting on how quick they were to try to murder a person, which is literally being criticized by the narrative. and everyone has a million excuses about why it’s not that bad. (it is btw.) but apparently suiryu smashing a truck is too far? what? what are you talking about?? even if we’re strictly talking property damage, tatsumaki is insanely careless about collateral damage.

the gouketsu battle was already waaaay over the top for humbling a character, especially when you consider that other characters have done way, way worse things and gotten away with a slap on the wrist. ONE said the scene was supposed to convey despair, and it totally did. i don’t see how you can watch this dude being brutalized and tortured in a way no other character has been, and come away with “yeah he deserved it.” what?  how can you possibly feel this way about suiryu, and suiryu alone?

i just think it’s so bizarre that people are more willing to forgive characters for all manner of fucked up bullshit, but draw the line at suiryu. like...really? what am i missing here? seriously, name one thing suiryu has done that is uniquely bad. name one thing he’s done to justify people wanting him to fucking die???

TLDR suiryu is literally just some guy, and is frankly pretty harmless. there is nothing uniquely wrong with him. nothing.

Is it bad that I want to change canon lance's personality? I want him to be a better lance and not the canon lance the creators and fans made him as and that everyone knows. I want to change him to be a good friend, mature, humble and smart (in his own way obviously) but of course he's still funny and caring. I'm too tired of seeing same old lance with all these insecurities and rivalry and how people/teammates treated him the fans put in every single fanfics and comics all over (let me tell you it's becoming boring af) so I want to change that

It is not bad to recognize the faults in a character, as long as you also recognize their strengths. And with a fictional character – and writing fanfiction – you can pick and choose which parts you want to focus on. One thing I’ve learned about this whole thing is that fans of VLD relate most to Lance – and that is exactly why he should never be portrayed as just an immature ball of insecurities (which, yes of course I have seen in many, many fics). Sure, he has them, and it rounds out his character – but no one is just one thing. The moment characters start to become a trope of themselves is actually a telltale sign of 1) if a show has run too long, or 2) if the creators didn’t have a solid plan that they stuck to. Personally, I like to write post-canon Lance. He’s still goofy and funny, but he has also grown and matured. I’ve picked traits they showed tiny blips of in canon and took off with them – he’s sensitive to others’ feelings, he’s the one who sees the bigger picture, he is smarter than he lets on, he’s selfless and brave and able to take command of a situation in a way that makes others listen. This way I am able to still portray him as in character as possible while still making him into something more than the trope and laughing stock he was turned into. People interpret things in different ways, and you are able to do the same. But just remember that things like insecurities and fears are fuel for writing a well-rounded character. They are the things that make decisions and pull out strengths a person didn’t know they had. They are what makes a character grow as the story progresses.

So I would say (in this apparent Ted Talk) no, it is not bad you want to change aspects of canon Lance. You just need to look underneath all the negative you’ve seen in him and find the traits you want to see and roll with that, because they are there, even if they might be harder to spot sometimes.

Ahh, the joys of being GAY AF and terrified of having a crush for the first time in years!!

I think this girl is a powerhouse. Extremely talented in everything she does. Gracious and humble. Fiercely unique. An extraordinary soul who treats everyone with the respect they deserve. She’s a light with a beaming energy that instantly livens any room. Her smile is contagious. She’s ornately complex with her own hills to climb. But even all that, I think she’s immaculate. And that hair! Oh my god that luscious mane!! It’s intimidating!

The issue I run into is it’s doubtful I’ll ever tell her this and shoot my shot. I only know her in passing and on friendly, professional terms, even though she’s a peer who was in the same college department as me. I do not wish to make her feel uncomfortable and I respect her not to come onto her. I respect boundaries. I’m also painfully insecure about my size, appearance, and have some societal homophobia constantly running through my mind that shooting my shot feels predatory, even though I know it’s not to say, hey I like you, wanna grab coffee? I’m proudly out and a huge advocate for the community. But man societal stigma in the Bible Belt is... wahhhhh....
