Hiya! Hello! It's me, ya boi
Updates people Updates!
So I'm making this sort of list of things I am in the process of making or should start working on soon (or things I have yet to post about yet) with little updates about them
Dimentio drawing- this is going alright so far but is a somewhat complicated piece where I will have 2 different end results, one with his mask and one without. I'm on the shaping phase of my lineart which is usually fun for me but I decided to take a small break from it as I was put off by how much time I spent on the sketch (about 30 hours) this does not mean the piece is complicated, just that it took a while to get everything right. I will get back to drawing this soon. This is a digital drawing
You were someone to me a lifetime ago- so for those who don't know I have a fic I'm working on. I released chapter 4 last month and hope to start working on the 5th chapter this month. After the last chapter was posted I started working on the layout of the story as up until this point I was just winging it and going with the flow with not much of a plan, but I know I should have some sort of base to follow in order to keep my writing consistent and have proper flow, because of this I have planned several chapters in advance now, and those who enjoy it will be happy to know that this fic will most likely have more than 30 chapters although I cannot say what number there will be specifically. I want to try and get more chapters out in a short amount of time as I don't want to drag this out but I cannot promise anything
My writing and ideas- so as said in a previous post, I have quite a few ideas that I have had but didn't share in here either because I was too lazy, forgot, or was self conscious. I will probably start to work on a few I already have written out and start to post them, I will also start to post more headcanon posts. Because of all these ideas I have had I actually have some other things that i will be able to share, which lead into..
Mario AU- an AU ( alternate universe) of which I made sort of out of the blue by accident which I have slowly been building on and I even have some doodles to go along with the basic lore of it. What is this AU you ask? Well you'll just have to wait and see, I will say that there is definitely some role swap in which makes things very interesting
Shipping- so for some who may have guessed, I am a multi-shipper, which isn't anything new but I preface this because of me delving into these ships a bit more. For instance me drawing Dimentio has sparked a lot of Dimentio and Dimigi (Dimentio x Luigi) ideas to form and be made, I shipped it before hand but I was and still am focused on booigi. So you may very well see some Dimigi soon as well as your scheduled booigi
Please do keep in mind like I have stated many times before, I struggle with motivation a lot and it can be very difficult for me to get things done, I don't know when any of this will be finished and forcing myself to get it all finished now will only burn me out more. I'm sorry I haven't been posting a lot of content recently as I've been struggling with a few things recently, I'll try and get content out for you as soon as I can and I hope it will make up for it. I was hoping that at least by posting this you will be aware of my plans and what is currently in the works so you guys are up to date
Also I wanted to just say that I appreciate the asks so much, it really means a lot and I love answering them! I do want to add if you are one of the 2 maybe 3 people who submitted an ask a little while ago, I just want to say that I haven't forgotten about them, I wish to draw proper responses for them I just haven't gotten around to it hey, I hope to answer them soon for you though
Have some old pics of my son (ignore how pale I am)

Hey bite is there question that you hate being asking?
Honestly? I generally dislike being sent questions or comments that imply a want or demand for me to draw something.
This might be kinda weird, since I am an artist and my career is to draw?? But when people ask me to draw something besides what I'm currently working on, it makes me feel like I'm not doing enough. It makes me feel like I'm not working hard enough.
Perhaps TMI (mental health stuff), but I have really bad workaholic tendencies, absolutely awful self-confidence, a big scoop of self-loathing, and on top of that I've been pretty severely burnt out creatively for a long time... but I keep working in spite of all that because I desperately want to finish the things I start, and I earnestly love to make comics and characters!
(note: I don't share this because I am trying to brag or gain sympathy - I am seeing a therapist about this and she's helped me a lot with unpacking my busted brain. But it takes a long time to rewire your mind, and I'm still learning my personal boundaries and new, healthier habits to help me cope with my problems.)
I don't know if working through the trouble is a good thing, honestly. It's probably bad. I should probably be resting. But like, I can't just stop working, you know? I have to pay my bills and stuff.
So, when I'm dealing with my own mental health problems but somehow still manage to post the little art I do, it's like, genuinely a miracle. But getting comments or asks about other pieces, other fandoms, other characters, other projects... to put it bluntly, it just makes me feel bad! I know it isn't meant to be harmful - people like my work and my characters and want to see more of it! That's really flattering! But ultimately, at the end of the day, it just makes those voices in my head telling me I'm letting people down and not working hard enough and being lazy all the louder.
I want to clarify: if you have sent me an ask that was reminding me about a sketch I posted a long time ago that you'd like to see finished, or asking me to draw a character I haven't doodled in a long time, or asking me about a fandom I haven't made fanart for in months - 1) please don't feel guilty - it's okay and I don't blame you for your excitement and enjoyment of the art I make! 2) I probably won't be answering it, and will continue to just work on the art that I have the energy and time to focus on.
Thank you for understanding and for your patience! Please be patient and kind to creators you like online - you don't know what they're going through and it might be very difficult for them to create! 🙏
Instead of asking for 'MORE' of something, try instead to leave an ask or comment expressing what you appreciate about a character or a piece they made recently. Or tell them how you discovered their work and what finally made you hit that 'follow' button. Or just tell them what you like about their art, characters, or stories! Those kinds of interactions can be a lot more encouraging and uplifting than asking for more work from them.
#asktime#not art#long post#also hey: i promise I have not forgotten about old sketches I posted that I said I would finish#i just have not had the time energy or focus to get back around to them#sorry

-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
Sorry for posting late, but I promise I had a reason to wait. I'm keeping it secret for now, but believe me, it's worth it ! In the meantime, I had the time to finish two future drawings AND the next chapter (which has been SUPER HARD TO WRITE, UUUGH), so I used my time well !
The two drawings you'll see are mine. Sorry if the second one is only a sketch, I didn't have the inspiration or motivation to finish it. I hope you'll still like it nonetheless !
A big thanks to Krekka01 for the correction on this chapter !
Anyway, I hope everyone is fine and safe. Happy reading !

Chapter 13
Being human was all about feeling things again, Snatcher knew this very well at this point. However, he has mostly experienced bad sensations, such as pain, discomfort, the strange taste and texture of food in his mouth, and having to go to the toilet again. Compared to this, actual good things seemed much less significant. It was a shame, since the ghost couldn’t deny that some experience had been enjoyable with that old body of his: sleeping was enjoyable, just lying down on his bed had been, too. Feeling the wind caressing his face, not feeling cold all the time anymore, being able to feel warm after hundreds of years, smelling food or flowers once again, and experiencing the sense of touch for the first time in centuries. Being human had its pros and cons, even if the cons were more noticeable. Furthermore, the situation he was in didn’t let him appreciate those little things since his mind was focused on something very important: leaving this place as soon as possible.
So, when the shade opened the door of the bathroom, he felt like he had just hit his head against an invisible wall made of many scents. All of Snatcher’s senses were sharp and entering a room with so many toiletries, so many soaps or creams. The ghost’s acute sense of smell was instantly attacked by all the perfumes floating around in that cramped space. He squinted, feeling a headache coming by just how strong the scents where.
-“Oh, this is going to be awful, isn’t it…” he murmured to himself, forcing his legs to move forward. Warmness and humidity floated in the room along with the smells. The bathroom wasn’t very big, despite having been made for the royalty. A big bathtub was in front of him, adjacent to the wall, full of steaming water. The bathtub, just like the bathroom itself, had brown and dark green as the main colour scheme. The walls were beautifully textured and, at some places, had a wooden inlay. Just like he remembered.
Snatcher jumped when something moved in the corner of his vision. He almost facepalmed when it turned out to be his own reflection in the bathroom mirror. He stopped for a few seconds, looking at himself: apparently, humans could look even deader than actual ghosts, good to know. His face was pale, and he had dark rings around his eyes. He had slept plenty the night before, though the day had been quite gruelling, both physically and emotionally speaking. The shade ran his hand through his hair as he sighed longly. Yeah, maybe a bath could be good for him, right now. He threw a last glance at his reflection before turning away. He didn’t want to undress while facing it. Being inside a human body was already disgusting as it was, he didn’t need to see himself naked even more than what he was forced to!
As he turned away, he noticed a pile of clean and elegant clothes on a small table near the sink. They were carefully folded, probably by Simeon. The thought made him anxious again. He didn’t know why, however, he couldn’t help but have a very bad feeling about the “butler”. What he had just seen earlier was quite revealing on the dangerous nature of this new opponent: the latter had been able to scare Vanessa so easily, and Snatcher was sure that it wasn’t an empty threat. Whoever was that guy, he was powerful enough to threaten Vanessa and powerful enough to create a whole dimension himself. This was quite discouraging, to say the least. In this body, Snatcher clearly had no chance.
The ghost shook his head. He needed to think about a plan, not about how risky his situation was. Plus, he hated to think about it, but… he couldn’t forget the fact that he wasn’t alone: the kid was still on her spaceship. She was safer there than where he was, so, for now, the ghost only had to worry about himself.
Turning his back to the mirror, he started to undress. In the right pocket of his pants was the remote given by the hat-wearing brat. It was a bright yellow device with a huge red button in its centre. According to her, if he ever needed to flee or to come onto her spaceship, he would only need to press the button, and it would teleport him to her living room. Snatcher didn’t need to use it right now; however, this was a device he absolutely couldn’t allow himself to lose. He hid it in his used pile of clothes while reminding himself that he would have to take the remote with him before giving said clothes to the servants.
He put the pile on the ground and faced a shelf on which were stocked several soaps, shower gels, shampoos and creams. The ghost frowned, as he tried to remember which was which. Some were missing any label to tell the shade what was what, and he ended up using his memory to pick the good products. He wasn’t really sure but, hey, smelling good was the most important part, right? Plus, it’s not like he would be using this poor excuse of a body more than a few days, so having a wash was just a formality at this point.
He put the products on one of the edges of the bathtub and, slowly and cautiously, entered the bath, starting with the left leg. The instant the warm water touched his skin, Snatcher couldn’t help but get his leg out quickly. The hot temperature associated with his acute sense of touch… it was almost too much.
The ghost hesitated. Should he wait for the water to cool down? The idea of taking a cold bath didn’t tempt him very much, even less than a warm bath. After a few seconds debating with himself, Snatcher rolled his eyes: he had seen much worse than hot water! He was a ghost who had killed many people, for God’s sake!
Still unsure, the shade tried entering the bath again. The hardest part was to ignore his brain screaming at him to get out. The water wasn’t burning, the problem was completely different: Snatcher had forgotten what water felt around his skin, and the new sensation made him extremely uneasy. Plus, the pain in his legs was still there. However, he managed to stay calm and let his body sink under the water, slowly. He gradually let his muscles relax one after the other. With time, he was soon lying down in the bathtub, his head on the headrest behind him.
“Now what?” he wondered, ill-at-ease. He knew what he had to do in theory, yes, but actually doing it was quite… awkward. Not only was he terribly uncomfortable at the idea of touching his own body meticulously, but the action felt so foreign to him as well. Even if he was able to stand up or move his arms without too much difficulty, doing precise gestures was… a little more complicated.
Snatcher carefully took one of the bottles of shower gels and poured some on his other hand, clumsily. A small portion of it fell in the water and the ghost sighed, irritated by his own heavy-handedness. He absolutely couldn’t wait to be back in his spectral form! At least, this one was easy to move around.
Washing himself after so many years without doing so was definitely an experience to Snatcher. His movements were gauche, and he almost let the shampoo bottle fall in the water. Other than that, the feeling of warmness around him was… not bad, if he had to be completely honest. Yes, it had made him uneasy at first, but now that several minutes had passed, the shade felt truly relaxed for the first time in days.
He rinsed his head and skin underwater, and eventually settled in the bathtub, letting his mind wandering around. The first thought that came to him was the “Simeon” problem. The shade had absolutely no idea about who that guy could be. But what was even harder to figure out was the stranger’s motives. What did he want? In what way could all of this benefit him at all? Snatcher didn’t know. He felt like there was some missing piece in his mind, and that he wouldn’t be able to understand anything without it.
The ghost was getting nowhere; he didn’t have enough information to try and guess who that “Simeon” could be. Though, he was certain of one thing: “Simeon” was only a disguise. There was no way the real Simeon could have helped Vanessa build this dimension, as the butler was dead in the present. So… it was only a mask, used to fool him and possibly Vanessa. From what he had heard before, he couldn’t be completely sure if she was aware of the stranger’s disguise or not. However, it was probable, as she wouldn’t have been scared of her own butler otherwise.
Snatcher let his head sink underwater as his mind was trying to come up with hypothesises, in vain. Maybe the kid would know more about what was going on? He supposed that she probably looked up for clues as well, along with fixing her spaceship.
When the ghost felt the need to breathe again, he got his head out of the water and sat down in the bathtub. How long had he been in the bathroom? There was no clock in the room, so there was no real way to know. However, judging from the wrinkles on the tip of his fingers, long enough to get out now.
Grabbing one of the nearby towels, the shade stood up and started wiping his wet body. The action was uncomfortable; not only getting out of the warm water made him feel cold suddenly, but the towel wasn’t really soft and scratched his skin. He quickly dried the rest of his body, wanting nothing more than for it to be over with.
The shade then grabbed the clean clothes and put them on, not without the usual clumsiness associated with his human body. He was now wearing an elegant dark purple shirt, decorated with golden embroidery on the collar. The shoulder pads were golden as well, from which were sewed many strings in the same colour. A long and graceful yellow cape came with it, and Snatcher put it on as well. He was also wearing dark brown skin-tight pants and black and golden boots.
Once fully dressed, the shade made sure to take the remote from his old clothes, this time hiding it in his left boot, against his calf. It was not a pleasant sensation, but it was the best hiding spot with this kind of apparel. He just hoped he wouldn’t press on the button by accident.
He came back to the mirror to do his head, and couldn’t help but be surprised at how much a bath could do to his face. He still looked tired, but at least it was less obvious. He looked so much better- less pale now. He supposed he really did need this bath, after all. And, even if he didn’t like to admit anything relatively positive on his human body, he couldn’t deny the fact that he was more handsome than usual, which was… a good thing? He didn’t know what to think of it, and most of his emotions were mixed feelings: pride, and irritation. In the end, it was hard for him to really think of this body as his. Sure, he recognized his reflection! But the whole situation was extremely weird and uncomfortable for him.
He was about to look away when, suddenly, the surface of the mirror turned completely black. It happened in a blink, and it instantly caught back Snatcher’s attention on it. The ghost’s knitted his brows, examining the surface with caution. What was that? The kid had never talked about that kind of thing!
The shade lifted his hand and, with hesitation, slowly put a finger against the cold surface. He was almost surprised to see that nothing seemed very much different, apart from the sudden non-reflective nature of the mirror. It didn’t reflect anything, as if someone had painted it black entirely. The texture was yet just as smooth as before, which was strange.
Snatcher stepped back, trying to find any explanation regarding that weird phenomenon. Yet, everything looked just as normal. Or, well, almost everything. When his eyes fell on the bath, still full of water, he noticed something very peculiar: the foam of the shower gel was not above the water like it should have been, floating on the surface. Instead, it was floating underneath the water level. This sight made the ghost pause, as if his brain was trying to decode something which was wrong in the first place... as if he was trying to explain an optical illusion. He simply couldn’t. All he knew was that it wasn’t supposed to happen.
-“What the…?” He turned around, trying to find new evidence of weirdness in his surroundings. Something else felt wrong, but, at first, nothing looked out of the ordinary. It took him a while to figure out what was bothering him, and yet it was so obvious: his shadow on the ground didn’t correspond to his human one. It was his spectral one, which had no legs.
The realization made him lose his balance, and he had to hold onto the sink not to fall down. What was happening? Was the rift already collapsing? The kid had told him they had several days left, not a few hours!
Snatcher’s breathing quickened, just like his heartbeat, while he looked all around himself, trying to look for any sign of danger. His eyes moved and examined every suspicious object. However, a few seconds passed without anything new happening. The ghost waited for a bit, trying to find anything unusual. He blinked and looked around, only to realize that things went back to normal.
Snatcher didn’t know how to react. His first reaction was to check on his shadow, in order to see if it was still his spectral one. It wasn’t anymore. Just the regular human one with legs. Behind him, the mirror was back to its previous state, showing the reflection of the room just like his.
The spirit looked just like he had seen a ghost. The thought made him laugh grudgingly as he ran his hand through his hair. It took him a moment to calm down. Okay. So the rift was doing unexpected things, just like the white cracks he had seen the day before, though these were apparently the brat’s doing. Was what just happened caused by the kid’s actions, too? He really hoped so, as the contrary could only mean one thing: the dimension was collapsing much quicker than what they had anticipated, and, in that case, they really needed to leave right now. The guy associated with Vanessa seemed to want him to stay there, though. Was he aware of the instability of the rift? If so, what was he trying to do? There were many faster ways to permanently make a ghost disappear! So why bother with a plot like this? It didn’t make any sense, but that wasn’t really new to Snatcher. Nothing made sense in that dimension.
He had to find that Time Piece and bring it to the hat-wearing child.
Once he got his breathing under control again, he straightened up, looking at his reflection once more. Well, at least he looked more presentable now. His surroundings seemed to stay normal. Maybe it was just a false alarm? He hated to say it... even think about it, but… the ghost couldn’t help but wish for the kid to reassure him, as she was the only person able to explain what was going on to him. He quickly pushed away that thought from his mind. Ha, good one, him wishing the child was there with him, pshhh. Damn human brain and human thoughts.
After a few minutes, the shade shook his head and pulled himself together. Now was not the time; he had things to do, especially that doctor appointment in his room. The sooner he would be able to walk without wincing, the better! And, in the middle of the night, he would try and look for the Time Piece in the manor.
He opened the bathroom door and left the room. He definitely had a lot in his plate.
The spirit walked back to his bedroom and, just to be sure, stick his ear on the door. However, no voices could be heard. He took a deep breath and opened the door.
A man was standing near the windows, looking at the outside with interest. He seemed to be in his late forties and had salt-and-pepper hair. He was wearing a long black coat and was holding a leather satchel. Said man turned towards Snatcher as he heard the door opening behind him.
-“Oh, Prince Alistel!” exclaimed the man, bowing with respect before continuing. “Excuse me for the intrusion. My name is Walter Gyfford. I’m the doctor you asked for.”
Snatcher suddenly realized he had a role to play and put a fake smile on his lips as he entered the room, closing the door behind him. He stepped forward to meet the doctor:
-“Oh, of course!” the shade replied with an insincere joy. He then pointed at himself. “Hum, do I need to undress?” What was the use of letting him new clothes if he had to take them off a few minutes later? The man smiled and shook his head as he let out a small laugh.
-“No, no, you don’t have to, I can heal your legs through your clothes.” The doctor then pointed to the bed with his hand. “Please sit on the bed, if that’s alright with you, your majesty.”
Snatcher hated those names. He had nothing to do with royalty anymore, and really didn’t want to, anyway. Yet, he said nothing and kept his polite expression on his face, reluctantly sitting down on the mattress. He carefully took his boots off, doing his best not to press the button on the remote still hidden in his shoes. Snatcher had to stop himself from letting out a sigh of relief as he put the shoes aside.
The doctor kneeled in front of him, opening his satchel and taking out very different items, such as plants and crystals. It took him a while for him to settle everything down as he wanted, but eventually rose his head to meet Snatcher’s stare.
-“I’m sorry, it might hurt a bit, since it’s a serious injury. Tell me when you’re ready.”
Snatcher couldn’t help but laugh at the doctor’s attempt to reassure him. He had been left to die in a cellar! What could be more painful than that? No matter how painful something could be, he could take it at this point!
-“Don’t worry about me, I’m ready,” he flippantly replied, shaking his head, this time with a sincere smile painted on his lips. The doctor seemed hesitant at his answer, but simply nodded as he began to use his magic.
Snatcher didn’t think it would be that painful. Maybe it only lasted a few minutes, but it lasted far, far more to the ghost. Healing magic wasn’t so painful usually, though his situation wasn’t really usual in itself. He could feel things moving in his legs as the doctor was trying to fix what was broken or just injured in general. Staying motionless was extremely hard, and he had to stop his body from crying from how intense it was for him. It was utterly humiliating. The pain was so strong and made him want nothing more than just rip the guy’s throat open. Fortunately for the latter, the pain started to fade the moment Snatcher seriously considered that option.
The doctor stepped back, his forehead sweating. His face clearly showed how uncomfortable he was at the moment.
-“Are you alright, my Prince?” asked the doctor, continuing in a more reassuring tone. “It’s over now. It won’t hurt anymore.”
Snatcher felt like he was being spoken to like a child, and he loathed that. Though he had to push his pride aside to stay in character. God, he hated having to act like the dumb prince he used to be.
-“Thank you,” he still managed to say, gritting his teeth to gulp down all the threats that might come out of his mouth. He wanted to kill that man so bad now. Luckily for the doctor, Snatcher was in no condition to do so, especially since he also needed to keep a low profile. But that didn’t prevent him from imagining himself doing so. It was deeply enjoyable.
Well, at least, his legs felt good for once, so he supposed that it was worth it. The doctor eventually stood up and bowed once again to him.
-“I’m sorry it was painful. Make sure to limit the physical efforts, and you’ll be perfectly fine!”
The spirit simply replied by a nod, as the doctor turned towards the door. No physical efforts? Well, this was going to be difficult with what he had in mind for the night, but he obviously kept that part for himself.
Just as the doctor was about to leave, he turned to Snatcher and spoke once again:
-“Oh, I almost forgot!” he said, raising his eyebrows as he continued. “Your butler tasked me to tell you that dinner will be ready soon.”
Snatcher’s heart sank in his chest as he suddenly realized that having his legs healed meant that he would have to eat outside of his bedroom. In the dining room. With Vanessa.
This day was never going to end, was it?

Sorry if this chapter was a little calm compared to the others, but it was needed for the story. The next chapter is going to be wild, don't worry :) I hope you still liked that chapter despite the lack of action !
As for when the next chapter will come out... It'll depend on the surprise, so if I'm not posting as fast as usual, please assume that I'm working on the fanfic in the meantime and/or on another AHIT fanfiction that I may or may not currently write. We'll see :)
And if you want to support me in the meantime, you can watch an ad on Utip. Thank you!
Please stay safe everyone !

Let’s talk about ReBoot: The Guardian Code. I had this big plan to write up a long essay about whether an audience can separate behind the scenes drama from a piece of art. After all, we as the audience aren’t supposed to know about any of that stuff. It was going to be awesome. I’d keep calling the show “Guardian Code” and then at the end say “Guardian Code” was perfectly average Canadian kids TV but it wasn’t ReBoot.
I was going to talk about why that was the case and what it means about remakes in general. Some nostalgia talk was going to be thrown in there. Probably would have made an easy Ready Player One joke. I’d delve deep into ReBoot’s place in pop culture and that a Robot Chicken sketch is really the only proof anyone outside hardcore fans remember it.
...
These days though I try not to just drag shows. It’s way too easy to write 800 words why a given episode of say, Power Rangers Ninja Steel, is terrible. Although once you’ve been writing reviews like that for four years it gets old. So instead I try to break down what a “bad episode” means for the franchise or just TV as a whole. It’s less me dunking on a show and more trying to figure out why it ended up the way it did. After all, no one sets out to make a bad episode of TV… right?
Season 1: Episode 10 of ReBoot: The Guardian Code, “Mainframe Mayhem” purports to be a tribute to classic ReBoot. Several voice actors return, they recreate the old sets, and even toss in a few catchphrases. In the lead up to this episode I had a pretty good idea what it would be like.
They wouldn’t resolve “The Hunt” cliffhanger of season four. The characters would make a few pandering references. There would be an attempt to make it seem like The Guardian Code is somehow in the continuity of the original ReBoot (which it would bungle.) The whole “Users as Gods” thing would be forgotten or glossed over.
All of that happened. Was it awful? I mean, yeah. Bob delivering his monologue from the old intro is incredibly ham-fisted. The lines about Hexadecimal not seeing Megabyte in a long time try to acknowledge season four maybe happened at one point but don’t fit. The intriguing idea of Bob, Dot, and Enzo basically meeting their gods is treated as just another wacky day at the diner. But that was expected.
It was a way to try and placate the hardcore fans so The Guardian Codeproducers could have a talking point in interviews about how “this isn’t just a reboot of ReBoot.”
I was prepared for that.
What the summaries and leaks didn’t reveal was that The Guardian Codecharacters and Bob would go inside a game. Okay, cool. Nice little throwback. The problem is that we see the User who’s playing this game and it’s… a thirty year old neckbeard living in his mother’s basement surrounded by classic ReBoot merchandise. There’s a poster for ReBoot: The Ride. The first art book. He even has a giant statue of Mike the TV.
This guy has been waiting for the old Mainframe to come back online. Yeah, somehow the Mainframe from the old series is locked in a cabinet in the new Guardians lair. I won’t even bother talking about the implications that has for the original series and how it doesn’t jive with what we saw in the third season. There’s something bigger to tackle here.
“And mom said all this time in the basement was wasted.”
That’s an actual line from the episode as the "User" gains the upper hand in the game. His whole life revolves around ReBoot, so much so he still lives in his moms basement. This is where the original idea for my essay fell apart. How do you defend something that so blatantly mocks not just fans of ReBoot but fan culture in general?
I can see where this came from. Ever since the summary for The Guardian Code was released fans were in an uproar. Many went to extreme lengths to make their displeasure known. A lot of it went too far.
No matter how much you don’t like how your favorite franchise is handled, endlessly posting on social media about it and publicly insulting the people making the show is a waste of time. I can imagine discussions in The Guardian Code creative team offices now.
“Why can’t they understand TV is a complex business and we couldn’t sell the show they wanted? Why can’t they just leave us alone? This show isn’t for them.”
That’s a very generous reading of it but hey, not trying to dunk on anyone here. They had an IP and wanted to make a show. I get that. Getting anything made in this business is incredibly difficult. Slapping the name ReBoot on it meant it was more likely to get sold. Sure, fine, it’s understandable.
“And mom said all this time in the basement was wasted.”
This is where any sympathy fades away from the creative team. If this User character hadn’t been included I could have understood (but still not been a fan of) why ReBoot: The Guardian Code ended up the way it did.
A fat nerd living in his mom’s basement is an old stereotype that’s long been played out. By utilizing it the creative team seems to speak directly to its loyal audience and say,
“This is what we think of you.”
It wasn’t necessary. They didn’t have to stoop to the level of making fun of fans, even the ones who take their passion for the franchise too far. A good series shouldn’t engage in that kind of petty dialogue with its audience. It should rise above it.
If ReBoot: The Guardian Code did have something to say about fans that are too devoted to media? If it had been a meta commentary on reboots in general and fan reactions to them? That could have had some merit, especially if it had the clever writing of the old series. Instead we got…
“And mom said all this time in the basement was wasted.”
That doesn’t even sound like something a human being would say. It’s a caricature the creators of this show painted to disregard any negative feedback of The Guardian Code. When fans would rightly point out, “this sounds nothing like the ReBoot I love”, “it looks like a bad Code Lyokoknockoff”, or “hey, you guys endlessly promised us the original show would return. What gives?” this is the image they went for.
A fat guy who has no life.
The User character in “Mainframe Mayhem” slaps the audience in the face at the same moment it’s trying to bestow them a gift from on high with the return of the old characters and voice cast. It makes even the genuinely delightful moment of Enzo tackling Bob feel tainted.
“Here’s your references, nerds. Now get back to your basement,” it says. That’s not only a horrible message for its older fans but also for its new younger ones.
This is why ReBoot: The Guardian Code doesn’t work as a reboot of ReBootor even as perfectly average Canadian kids TV. It could have been a series that, while saddled with the name of a known IP, strived to be more than what zealous hardcore fans portrayed it as. It could have been fun on its own, divorced from its roots.
That’s the show I would have been fine with. I wouldn’t have been a fan but it could have led to an interesting discussion.
“And mom said all this time in the basement was wasted.”
I can’t separate the series from the behind the scenes drama because it actively parades it for everyone to see. It stoops to the level of the hardcore overzealous fans it attempts to make fun of. In that, “Mainframe Mayhem” is one of the worst episodes of television I’ve ever seen.

Other, also known as ‘soulmate’ for people who wanted to believe. Not everyone had an Other, and the only way to find your Other was by saying their name. When that happened, memories of their life, where they grew up and the steps that led them to you, would be condensed into a single flashback that passed in a blink of an eye. The fact that someone had said Rey’s name and didn’t bother approaching her hurt, especially since she had a good idea why. This Strange World
My first ever Newtina fic with some Jakweenie family interspersed! It’s probably one of my longest pieces, too, so enjoy. I also may be convinced to write follow-ups to this ;)
Newt and Tina Scamander had the ideal marriage to a stranger’s eye. They were both young, healthy, and shared the kind of love that some could only dream of. He was a famous author, she a high ranking Auror. They weren’t rich but they had enough. A nice apartment in London, space for their relatives to visit and for their weird and wonderful host of beasts.
“Look at my sister, living the high life in the Old Smoke with her handsome husband.” Queenie would often say to her friends.
But, as the years rolled on, it became apparent they were missing a piece.
A family of their own.
Tina had known going into her marriage that she and Newt would probably never have children. Before she’d even laid eyes on her future husband, her mother had always said that Tina was the career-girl and Queenie the home-bird.
Newt hadn’t expected to ever marry in the first place.
And, even if they’d wanted to, Grindelwald was still out there.
The idea that he could one day come back for Newt petrified her. Newt was strong, stronger than the average wizard, but even he stood little chance against the Elder Wand. Tina had seen enough post-mortem reports on his victims to know Grindelwald wouldn’t hesitate to murder the magizoologist that put him in the custody of MACUSA. A quick death would be a stroke of luck, not a given. Newt, as per usual, was more concerned about what the wizard would do to Tina rather than himself. Tina couldn’t expect any mercy, and neither would any children, were they in the line of fire.
That promise alone was enough to keep Newt and Tina’s resolve but they had their moments. Episodes where they wavered and wished for something more. As the months turned into years, they became a more frequent occurrence for them both. They were the one thing they didn’t share with each other.
Tina got them when she saw Newt fawning over his beasts. His gentle hands and kind eyes. That natural paternal instinct that he tried so hard to suppress when he wasn’t with his creatures to save himself the heartache.
It was easier for Tina in some ways. She had work to throw herself into when the going got tough.
Newt did, too, but he was stuck in the house.
He pretended not to, but Newt noticed things. The quiet in the rooms that never seemed to go away completely. The empty spaces and the almost sterile cleanliness of their furniture. Tina’s odd longing gazes. The sad expression that his own mother wore whenever he saw her.
It was hard, but they managed. They had each other and that could, and would, be enough for them.
That was until Jacob and Queenie’s baby arrived.
Newt had been sitting at their kitchen table, perfecting the outlines on a sketch for the new edition of his book, when Tina had burst in through the front door, waving a letter in her hands. Newt had jumped a mile.
“It’s a boy! Queenie had a boy,” Tina had said breathlessly.
Newt swallowed the lump in his throat and quirked his lips. “That’s wonderful news, dear. Are they okay?”
“They’re all great,” She pushed a photo towards Newt. “His name is Ralph.”
His eyes turned to the moving picture of what would be his nephew under his fingers. A tiny baby, lying on his back in a Moses basket, clutching onto Queenie’s outstretched fingers. Ralph Kowalski certainly had plenty of his mother in him, that was for sure. Lush golden curls and cream skin, with a sharp chin. It was Jacob’s dark irises that stared back at Newt, though.
Newt struggled for something appeasing to say. “He looks just like your sister.”
The state that Tina was in, in that moment, reminded Newt of when she’d walked down the aisle close to three years ago with Queenie on her arm. Her smile made of blinding light, happy tears threatening to spill over.
They left for New York the next morning.
For Tina, the trip seemed to last an eternity. She stood out on the deck of the steamer, leaning over the rails and scanning the horizon for sight of her homeland impatiently. She seemed to almost vibrate with anticipated excitement.
For Newt, the journey went all too fast. With each mile they sailed away from England, a sickening sense of dread deepened in his stomach. He knew he was doing far too much inward-looking. This was about Queenie and Jacob, his family, not his own warped grieving for something he couldn’t have.
But Newt knew even then; this wasn’t going to do his marriage any good.
They stayed in New York for nearly three weeks. Newt had never seen Tina so happy. Queenie looked none the worse for wear after having a child. She’d bounced back into her lithe frame as easily as putting on an old coat. The same couldn’t be said for Jacob, who maintained a constant look of having run ten laps around Central Park.
Tina fell in love with Ralph as quickly as a click of the fingers. He seemed to like her, too, as much as a newborn could show. He was quiet with her, sat on her lap and played with her necklace and her rings.
It was too much for Newt to bear at times.
“Hey, man. You good?” Jacob asked him one night as he climbed up the escape.
They’d been sat on the fire exit together, side by side. The sky was turning orange like a tiger lily, flecked with white as the stars began to appear. A cool breeze drifted along, ruffling Newt’s hair gently.
“I just-” Newt hesitated, looking out over the city skyline. “I needed some air.”
“I get it. It’s pretty stuffy in there, right?” Jacob chuckled, shrugging his work jacket off. “We need to get a bigger place.”
Newt wasn’t sure if Jacob was mocking him or just hadn’t sensed anything wrong.
Jacob took a deep breath in. “Look, Newt. Queenie asked me to talk to you.”
“You needn’t bother yourself, Jacob, I’m fine.”
“It doesn’t take magic to know that something between you and Tina has been off lately. Hell, I’ll bother myself as much as I want, you’re my wife’s brother-in-law so you’re basically my brother-in-law, too.”
“Tina wants a child of her own.” Newt answered after a moment, staring at the traffic bustling about on the ground below.
“And you …” Jacob trailed off, trying to decide on the most tactful way to put it. “Can’t give her one?”
Newt flushed at the implication. “No- no, I can. As far as I’m aware, atleast.”
“Then what’s holding you back? I know things are looking a bit shaky over with the Jerrys- ”
“It’s Grindelwald.”
“You’re afraid he’s going to come after you? Newt, it’s been like half a decade.” Jacob said in disbelief. “He hasn’t even been in Britain. Queenie says he’s frightened of some guy called Dumbledore.”
“He is, but how long will that hold? I can’t place the life of a child, my child, on the hope that Grindelwald has forgotten about me.”
The other man was silent for a minute. “Nothing I say is going to change your mind, is it?”
Despite himself, Newt smiled a little. “No, but you’re an honourable man for trying.”
Jacob grinned back at him. “Thanks, Newt.”
There were few circumstances under which Newt would ever consider moving to America, he loved Britain too much, but being out there with Jacob and Queenie, and now Ralph, made him waver. He liked this, this close-knit family that they’d built together, although there were many thousands of miles between them normally.
“Right,” Newt started, beginning to push himself up onto his feet. “I’m going to go and see Tina.”
“Let’s give the ladies some space to talk, too, shall we?” Jacob put his hand on Newt’s shoulder firmly. “We’ll go somewhere and leave them be for a while.”
The magizoologist hesitated, before resigning himself to an excursion with Jacob. Tina saw her sister precious little. Perhaps some time alone with Queenie would do her good.
“Alright,” Newt sighed. “Where do you want to go?”
“Uh, surprise me, Mr Scamander.”
And with that, Newt apparated off of the fire exit with Jacob in tow, to wherever his mind took him.
A floor below, Tina jumped at the sound, as did Ralph. It was only Queenie that didn’t seem surprised as she stood at the kitchen counter, stirring a hot drink for her and her sister.
“Tina, are you and Newt getting on okay?”
Tina looked up from her book. A bolt of anger shot through her quickly, there and gone before she’d had time to comprehend.
“You’re the Legilimens, you tell me.” she replied sharply, going back to her page to avoid her sister’s eyes.
“I don’t want to read your mind. I want you to be honest with me.” Queenie retorted stubbornly, straightening up as she perched on the armchair.
“What’s there to say? That Newt and I aren’t 100% happy that we can’t have children?”
“Because of Grindelwald?”
“Germany, too.” Tina muttered.
The ushering in of extremist politics in Germany made her feel uneasy. Who knows what the rest of 1931 was going to hold. Men like Hitler getting to power often ended in war and Britain wasn’t ready for that. The Depression was hitting hard. The Muggle army was down on their numbers, as was the country’s productivity. The Ministry wasn’t in much better shape. They were already at war with Gellert Grindelwald. People were going missing, turning up dead later on. The Auror Department was shrinking by the day. The last thing they needed was hot war with Germany.
“The thing is with war,” Queenie said gently, setting a cup of coffee in front of her sister. “Is that it can go on for a real long time. You and Newt might be too old to have babies by the time the world quietens down. That’s if it ever does.”
“You know, Teen, life doesn’t just stop in the bad times. Things go on.”
Tina watched her nephew play on the rug, completely untroubled by the environment he’d been born into. Little Ralph Kowalski. His parents weren’t that different from him in that sense. Jacob and Queenie knew the world and all her dangers full well, but it just didn’t seem to trouble them. Tina was glad for them, that they could be that way. She envied it, even, but it infuriated her, too.
Queenie knew that.
“Maybe Newt will change his mind one day.” Queenie said carefully.
“Everyone has a selfish streak. It’s bigger in some, smaller in others, but we all have it. The need to content ourselves, even if the cost is irrational,” Tina leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees. “Except Newt. Newt doesn’t have it.”
“He’s still human.” Her sister responded quietly, taking a delicate sip from her cup.
When they finally left New York a few days later, Tina was devastated.
Their house seemed quiet as a graveyard compared to the Kowalski residence. There was none of Queenie’s humming as she cooked or Ralph’s excited squealing, no fire crackling in the hearth, no radio playing in the background. The hollowness was suffocating.
The silence made Newt want to scream.
Tina ran her hand over the flawless marble worktop, cool against her fingers, as Newt set down the last of their baggage.
“Newt.” His name came out of her mouth like a plea. Tina always thought she was coping until she wasn’t. Her sadness seemed to hit like a tsunami, filling her lungs and drowning her.
“I’m going to the Amazon.”
Tina took a sharp breath in, tears beginning to well up. “What?”
“I’ve finished every profile for the new edition of the book, except for the creatures that are native to the Amazon,” Newt refused to meet her sad, brown eyes. She’d open him up in a second if he did.
One blink and the tears started to fall. “Please, don’t.”
It took Newt a moment to summon the courage to answer, to be as cold as his need for isolation required him to be. “I’m leaving the day after tomorrow.”
Tina knew well enough that Newt’s overseas work trips lasted indefinitely. Sometimes he’d be gone a week, sometimes months on end. It was for that reason that, when Newt had booked his passage to Brazil, he’d left himself a day to spend with Tina. In retrospect, that hadn’t been such a great idea. They didn’t speak to each other. She slept firmly on her side of the bed.
Tina didn’t linger. She wasn’t there when he opened his eyes on the morning of his departure. She wasn’t there waving from the docks when his ship pulled away. That truly broke his heart. She’d done that for him since ‘26.
The defining factor of Newt and Tina’s partnership was that they were always there for each other, no matter the circumstance. To have that severed felt to Newt like his marriage had never even existed.
He felt it when he penned letters to Tina from the Amazon, sometimes two or three times a day, and got nothing in return. Newt had gone on this trip to escape the silence, but he’d only created another sort from someone who did exist. Someone who was definitely the love of Newt’s life.
That still did not make him brave enough to go home.
Newt wasted weeks looking at beasts he’d studied a million times before. That normally never deterred him, but everything he seemed to do was hollow right about then. He observed, wrote, sketched, cataloged some of the world’s most incredible creatures without enjoying a thing. Not even his expulsion from Hogwarts, what Leta had done to him, all those years ago had made him feel this way.
It was only on his seventh week out in the Amazon did he experience something real, and it wasn’t pleasant.
It had been a normal day. He’d rolled out of his hammock at 5:30am, ate a lukewarm bowl of porridge at the rickety table in his tent while he flipped through some sketches from yesterday. An owl, a Eurasian eagle on that day, dropped the latest issue of the Daily Prophet in front of him. He took a passing glance at it. The headline read:
Eleven Ministry Aurors killed in Grindelwald Attack.
Newt had scrambled to open the paper, eyes tearing frantically through the report. It was headline news, but not much detail, as it was with most events that involved the Ministry. All that was certain was that a mission to apprehend Gellert Grindelwald had gone drastically wrong. Eleven out of the team of fifteen were dead. Condition of the survivors were unknown, as were names.
Newt had never struck a camp so fast in all his life.
He didn’t bother with a boat. It would take him too long. He did the reckless thing and apparated country to country. Brazil to Senegal to Spain to Calais and then right into his empty living room.
It was exactly as he’d left it nearly two months ago. The grandfather clock was still ticking. Tina’s coat was still draped on the armchair, a cold cup of coffee on the table. Nothing out of the ordinary, except for a glittering on the mantelpiece that caught Newt’s eye.
Tina’s rings, on closer inspection. Her engagement and wedding bands piled neatly on top of one another.
Tina never took those rings off.
The air was stolen from Newt’s lungs as he stared at his wife’s abandoned rings. His chest felt as those it were imploding, overcome by a crushing pain in his heart that made him seize. So this was grief. Full of unbearable hurt, inexplicable anger and far too much regret.
Newt had always known that Tina had the power to kill him. Such was the consequence of true love. That was when Newt started to cry, for the first time in years. All his pent up emotions expressed in guttural sobs that tore from his body. Newt truly felt that he was dying in that moment and he would have gone with Death gladly over the pain, over living a long life without Tina.
He barely heard her voice over his own racket.
“Newt?”
There she was, in the kitchen doorway. His Tina, dropping a bucket to the floor when he turned to face her.
Newt’s breath was heavy, tears still streaming down his face. His nails dug deep crescents into his palms. “Why aren’t you wearing your rings?” His voice was so high pitched, he was virtually screaming at her.
Tina flinched back at the sound. “I- I was taking water to the Niffler. I didn’t want him to steal them.” she stammered.
And then, as if he’d been injected with a sedative, Newt’s rage was washed away. It left him with relief, that Tina was okay, that he was here with her. He saw her. Tina had never been so beautiful, dressed in her navy waistcoat with its silver chain and a white shirt underneath. Dark brown hair straightened, tucked behind her ear.
Nothing else needed to be said. He found Tina in his arms, where she belonged. Her head buried into his shoulder, hands clutching the fabric of his coat tightly. Newt murmured a series of sentences into her hair over and over again.
“I’m so sorry.”
“I thought you were dead.”
“I love you.”
Tina didn’t need to hear them right now. She had wondered if Newt would ever come home. To have him here with her was the only comfort she needed.
It was for that reason that it took her a few moments to notice the blood.
Newt had blood dripping from several areas of his body. He had apparated between continents without stopping, she realised. Newt had been splinched. A few times, actually. On his shoulder, his right forearm, lower left leg.
“Newt, what have you done?” Tina whispered, staring at the crimson stain growing on his shoulder as she pulled away slowly.
He shook his head as if to say it didn’t matter.
If Tina could have had her way, she would have dragged her husband to St. Mungo’s to be treated immediately, but it was out of the question. This many splinch wounds, that deep, on an experienced apparater like Newt would raise unwanted questions. She couldn’t use her wand either. Her job in the Ministry meant that her spell casting was checked at the beginning and end of the day. The strong, complex healing Newt needed would trigger alarm bells. Tina had to stitch and bandage him up herself. He didn’t make a sound of complaint but the scars left behind would be awful. Tina fought the desire to burst into tears every minute of the whole horrible affair.
Newt was battered, sore and as emotionally worn-out as he’d ever been. That didn’t stop him making love to Tina that night. He needed to feel her familiar form beneath him, her warm breath on his neck, her hands running up and down the bare skin of his back.
He was a little less careful with her than usual.
It took Tina a while to register that something was off. Having Newt back distracted her. It was as it had been in the early days of their marriage. Happiness on the border of delirium. Her job at the Auror Office was going well, they were closing in on Grindelwald more each day and she had her husband at home waiting for her.
It was only when she entered the second week of vomiting up her breakfast that she had the thought.
It was another week before Tina pushed a positive potion towards Newt. It wasn’t a surprise to him. He’d had his suspicions before it had even dawned on Tina.
“What now?”
Tina was at war with herself. The moral part of herself was disgusted that she could be so foolish as to get pregnant in such troubling times. The other part, the more selfish part, was thrilled at the news that she was finally carrying her and Newt’s child. But the viability of this would depend on Newt.
Newt was hard to read. His head was down as he stared at the iris purple liquid blankly, swirling it around in the bottle. “We get out of London. Go somewhere safer.” he said finally.
“We’re doing this?” Tina asked tentatively.
Newt set the potion back down on the table and lifted his head, eyes meeting hers directly. “We’re doing this.” he murmured back.
“What are you thinking?”
“Life has to go on. This wasn’t preferable but it’s happened,” Newt exhaled, putting his hand on top of Tina’s. “I refuse to take it as anything less than good news.”
“You’re going to be a father, Newt.”
A small, shaky smile appeared on Newt’s face.
Their move out of London was remarkably quick. It was easiest for Newt. He had his livelihood already packed. Literally. Tina had more to go through. At the announcement of her pregnancy, she’d been put on consultancy and paperwork only. Her boss was less than thrilled at losing one of his senior Aurors during such trying times but there wasn’t much to be done about it.
Tina found them their new home. A large farmhouse in the Dorset countryside. It was out of the way but had Floo network connections so Tina could use it when she went back into active duty. There was plenty of land for Newt’s creatures if he ever wanted to dispense of the case. There was a beautiful master bedroom for them, a nursery for the baby and a few guest rooms for Jacob and Queenie to take up if they ever visited.
Those rooms came into use far sooner than Newt and Tina had expected.
Tina received her weekly letter from her sister, announcing that Ralph was going to get a little sibling in the late spring. The next time Tina heard from her sister was when she was standing on her doorstep in the rain, with her family and a few of their possessions.
The MACUSA had caught up with them.
“We’ll be out of your hair as soon as we can find our own place.” Queenie said over breakfast one morning.
“I said don’t worry about it, Queenie. We’ve plenty of room to spare.” Tina replied dismissively as she poked at her bowl of porridge.
“Still, we wouldn’t want to be in your way once the baby’s here. That’s for you guys to enjoy on your own,” The blonde witch persisted, both at the conversation and trying to feed Ralph an apple slice.
Jacob nodded his agreement. “How long do you have left, Tina?”
“Two months and three weeks.”
The last few months had been a whirlwind to the Scamanders. Tina was now six months into her pregnancy but she was already tired of it. It had been nicer than Tina expected but the changes in her body still bothered her. She was slow and uncoordinated. Her back seemed to constantly protest at the extra weight she was carrying. She couldn’t eat what she wanted; some things would make her ill. Her abdomen had swollen prolifically, setting a defined curve in even the loosest of Tina’s clothes. Her belly fascinated Newt. In fact, everything about her seemed to fascinate Newt at the moment. She’d never admit it, but she was enjoying the attention that her husband was showering on her.
“It’ll go like that, I promise you.” Queenie snapped her fingers.
“Well,” Tina eased herself into a chair opposite Newt. “Not quick enough.” she muttered.
Newt smiled into his cereal. Considering his original misgivings, Newt was taking this all remarkably well. He was clearly getting excited. In the moments where he wasn’t fussing over her, he was fixing up the nursery or baby-proofing other areas of the house. The only thing they hadn’t prepared was a name. They were both of the opinion that they’d know when they met their baby.
The Kowalskis did eventually find their place in Britain. In Dorset, too, oddly enough. They bought a nice little three-bed in the biggest town. Jacob set up a new bakery and it was, naturally, a hit with the townsfolk within days.
It seemed to Tina that her two biggest wishes were being fulfilled. She and Newt were having a child that they wanted. Queenie was close to her again.
When the baby finally arrived, at 8:03am on the 9th of December 1931, it seemed that all their preparation wasn’t worth much at all.
Tina hadn’t recognised her first contractions for what they were, assuming they were just hicks. It was, after all, a week before her due date. Over the course of a few hours, though, the pain become too strong and lasted for too long to write off as practise contractions. Newt kept extraordinarily calm in that first stage, even when her water broke.
It was the parts after arriving at the hospital that Newt struggled to recall. He remembered practically carrying Tina to a bed. How tightly she had held onto his hand. The noise she had made, moaning and whimpering and ragged breathing. The screaming, towards the end.
The sun was just beginning to rise when Tina finally managed to deliver their child into the world. For a moment, the baby hadn’t cried, leaving both Newt and Tina alone in a skin-crawling moment of silence.
Their child, their son, started to wail soon after.
In the last three months of Tina’s pregnancy, they received two bouts of terrible news. In late September, Newt received a telegram from the Ministry to inform him that his elder brother, Theseus Scamander, had been killed in yet another futile attempt to apprehend Grindelwald.
In November, Tina got word that her old boss, Percival Graves, had also fallen victim to Gellert Grindelwald. Newt had asked her once, before they were married, if she’d ever had a romantic relationship with Graves. Tina said almost.
They named him Perseus. Perseus Newton Scamander, and he was the most beautiful thing that Newt had ever beheld.
He mostly took after Tina. He had her dark hair. Glossy and thick, smooth as silk. His skin was her porcelain colour, once the ruddiness had faded, free of any freckles. He had Newt’s eyes though, a strange off-blue like sea water.
Newt couldn’t stop looking at him. He was sold the moment that Tina asked if he wanted to hold him.
Perseus seemed content with them both, snoozing in the crook of Newt’s elbow, swaddled in snow white blankets from his aunt Queenie. Newt had climbed onto the bed with Tina and she lay against him, head on his shoulder.
“What do we do now?” she whispered to him, stroking a finger across Perseus’ little hand.
“The nurse says we can take him home.” Newt said softly in reply, but that seemed like the most terrifying thing to him. He was so in love with his son, but also terrified of him. Jacob said that was normal.
“That’s scary.” Tina echoed his thoughts.
“I know, but we’ll take care of him.”
Newt turned his eyes back to his baby son. He’d lost count how many times he’d done that already.
“You’ll be just fine, won’t you, Perseus? It breaks my heart that the world isn’t as good as you deserve, but it isn’t all bad, I promise. The world is full of some amazing things and they’re all around you. I’ll teach you to see them. I swear that I will. You can do the things that they never did. That I never did. Or you can do none of it, if that’s what you want. I won’t ever mind, so long as you’re happy. That’s what matters, really. All I’m ever going to want is for you to be happy. Can you do that for me? We’ll see.
But of all the things I’ve seen in this mad world, you are certainly the most fantastic.”
