I fully believe that the main reason that Reid ever got email is because he wanted to watch one of his lil nerd shows but the local library didn’t have a copy of it available. And he obviously wouldn’t risk the possible cyber attacks that could result from pirating. So he literally just makes an account so he could watch a show. And maybe he starts watching a few more after that. And maybe he gets a couple more platforms

One eventually he lets it slip to Garcia that he now has email. And she peer pressured him into letting it be known to others so they can actually email him. Which he does. And generally hates.

But he’s realized that it does have some perks. For example, it helps him keep updated on his mom’s treatment as well as daily life. They still call regularly. And absolutely if it’s any type of emergency. But in terms of basic information with doctors, email is convenient

He also likes it for communicating with other scientists and academics. He has several friends working on fascinating research. It’s nice to be able to send research back and forth so quickly. His fax machine is losing a good amount of its work to the printer these days. It’s probably glad to have the break

It weirds him out when he anyone outside of the team and a select group of others email him. And he does get so overwhelmed by it sometimes that he’ll go days without opening it. But it has enough positive qualities that he’ll keep it for now
