*hands together* so, do we get to experience the boys flirting with us even though we're not together yet?
Like, in a way, hints to us that that boy may have a crush on us. Would their behavior change if they start crushing on us? or are you guys gonna leave us to speculate and suffer?
p.s. love you guys, hope you're all getting some good rest at least.
Oh for sure it’ll change! We’re not that evil— you guys will know. Especially since of them aren’t subtle with their feelings at all lol. Though it might be hard to tell for one of them… But in general my head’s been filled with all the changes we can make in their demeanor once they’re crushing on someone and then when they’re full on in love with them :,) no matter how slight or blatant as it could be, our boys would definitely be affected once they have feelings haha
P.S. that’s sweet anon :,) thank you! Hope you’re taking care of yourself toooo

Wait no bestie I’m the dumb one lol Thursday is what t the extra is called not the story😭 omg I love a good next door neighbors story especially when the mc is trying to act like she isn’t wanting him!
See I love the way you wrote your angst because it makes sense to me!! I don’t think it ever really feels like it’s coming out nowhere but then again even if it does, it’s not a bad thing tbh! Though I totally get being self critical about it like I’m the same way lol for me it depends on the problem on how long the angst vibes should last! Like the Honey cliffhanger was shocking! And yes it was coming out of “nowhere BUT bestie if we really want to analyze it like targeting a young single dad who is RICH makes sense. Especially with how Chloe’s death was like talked about in news outlets(I hope I’m remembering right lol) then if I was a criminal I would think he is an easy target! Since he obviously will leave the baby with someone who’s not him! ANYWAYS overall it was not dumb and I loved the drama it gave!
gagtita is SOO you coded I can’t even!! I’m sure whatever you may come up with will just be so good!!!
Omg Sam you’re so sweet😭 I’ll definitely let you know little facts that I think you might like! I try to remember when my brain isn’t fried lol
ITS OKAY IF YOU DRAG ME HAHAH I LOVED IT!! I know you would never intentionally try to make me or anyone feel bad! If anything i genuinely laughed out loud when i read it!
Oh bestie his HANDS are just soooo AH! I will certainly update if anything happens lol
Maybe highlights might give you the change you’re looking for without it being too extreme? Idk tbh because I don’t photograph well at all either lol but bestie I bet you’re actually so hot and like you’re super smart and KIND so yeah!!!
How exciting visiting a place you’ve never too!! Fall is so you and I love that!!
I can sleep late when I don’t have classes but typically it’s not ideal because my body will just get use to a certain time sadly lol but yeah its good for three days only though I don’t know yet how it will be like long term! I don’t go on Monday’s so I consider it be just a another day for the weekend lol but yeah this past Monday I didn’t need to do anything so I was so lucky to read the honey update early!
When I drop your full name it’s truly never because I’m upset! If anything I’m just truly GAGGED and FREAKING OUT lol
Hope your week is going well!! Sending you the best vibes! Hope you can find something that makes you smile! Love you bestie!!-💜
You're not dumb lol I was def misleading the way I wrote it. I've got like four or five one shot ideas. genuinely PRAYING they don't turn into a series. I feel like I need a break from writing a series. I've been overwhelming y'all with series 😭😭
I'm glad you see the vision! That makes me so happy!
If you have any facts or tips to help my teenagers be normal those would def be facts I'd be interested in 😂😂
My mom's been encouraging highlights and I should just listen to her because she's always right about my looks. I used to hate shopping with her but now I'm like "Can you tell me what to wear, Mommy, please?" Ma'am tried to put me in turtle necks all the time for most of my childhood and I REFUSED. Now I LOVE turtle necks. My poor mother.
I'm sure I've mentioned I love the moon and I always see posts that are like "the moon is beautiful and doesn't photograph well either" so I try to remember that but it's hard 😭
hahaha I feel that. I love to sleep in! (UNTIL 7) I'm a 5:45AM wake up kind of gal. 7 on the weekends is a delight. I also feel like I don't get anything done if I sleep late. But anyway. I LOVE a Monday off schedule. That's the best! I'm glad you were able to read it early I hope you're able to read the last part soon too! I love your feedback 💕
NO I LOVE THE NAME DROP it's so funny 😭
Hope your week is good too! Love youuuu!!!
xoxo

Troublemakers - 23: Entrance
Aira: (This place—)
Tumblr media
[Read on my blog for the best viewing experience with Oi~ssu ♪]
Location: Starmony Dormitory Exterior
The following day, early morning
Aira: (This place—)
(Today marks the start of our new life here.)
(Waaaa…! Still, I heard it was a new building, but to think that everything is this sparkly!)
(There’s a bunch of seasonal flowers too. It’s so stylish and ra-vely~♪)
(Also, it’s excessively big, even larger than I had imagined from the rumors…)
(I mean, there’s even a rumor floating around that because there were way more rooms than idols they scampered around trying to find short-term tenants so it wouldn’t give off an abandoned aura.)
(There are even people who use the dorm like a hotel, deciding whether to stay here or at their parents’ home depending on their mood for the day.)
(I totally get that. It’s hard to change your living environment after all.)
(I was also mulling over which of the many, many treasures piled up in my room I should bring here with me and before I knew it the late hours caught up with me…)
(Ugh, I wasn’t able to recover from yesterday's events very well…)
(Am I even up to the task of moving with my condition being this crappy? I’m not that great at physical labor in the first place…)
(On top of that, it seems that Kazehaya-senpai and Ayase-senpai will be showing up later because they had something else scheduled…)
(Will I be alright being alone with that incomprehensible guy? Regardless, it can’t be helped since it's an order from ES…)
(I have to live under one roof with those three weirdos from here on out, right?)
(I really don’t get it. I’m a bundle of anxiety… Just why did things come to this?)
(But this is the only way for me to continue living as an idol… There's no choice but to accept it and give it my all, but still…)
(…I thought that as long as I became the idol I dreamed to be, the rest would be sunshine and roses… Ugh, life is so hard.)
Tumblr media
Hiiro: Good morning to you, my friend! Isn’t today’s weather truly splendid!
Aira: Wah! You scared me! You surprise me so much every time, it’s bad for my heart!
Hiiro: Yes, yes, I apologize! I was just so glad to have met you again! Oh my dear friend, oh beautiful person known as Shiratori Aira!
Let us celebrate the start of the day we call today, hahaha~☆
Aira: You’re way too energetic… Stop it~ On top of being sleep deprived, I’m also bad with mornings. You shouting in my ears is giving me a headache.
(Ah… Right, this was how he is. Hiro-kun—Amagi Hiiro is the kind of guy who always spouts incomprehensible stuff and is good at being annoying.)
(Just what kind of person is this guy?)
(Yesterday at the venue of Trickstar’s live… Hiro-kun called ‘that Amagi Rinne’ his brother, didn’t he?)
(They both have the surname Amagi so it’d make sense if they were brothers.)
(Their relationship didn’t seem to be just normal brothers though… Ugh, this whole thing is wrapped in mysteries!)
(But well, we will be living together in a room in the Starmony Dorm from here on out… So whether we like it or not, we’ll come to know more about each other.)
Hiiro: Aira! Allow me to gift you spareribs!
Aira: What the heck!? Sorry, I’m taking back what I said before, I don’t think I’ll ever understand you!
Hiiro: What you said before? You think deeply about this and that very often, Aira. I think that it’s an admirable trait to have, since I tend to rush ahead without thinking at all!
It would be more accurate to say that I respect you for it. Is there some kind of trick to it?
Aira: What…are you talking about? More importantly, I only noticed it just now, but why are you carrying spareribs with you, Hiro-kun!
Eh, what’s the deal with that? What roadside did you find those on?
Hiiro: Haha, that’s truly an odd thing to ask! I don’t think that you’d normally find meat cut like this lying around next to a road anywhere, though?
Aira: Huh, you mean you bought it somewhere? You bought something so greasy this early in the morning…?
Hiro-kun, for what it’s worth, you’re also an idol. You need to properly think about what you eat.
Hiiro: I got scolded?!
However, you make an astounding point! The human body is made up of the things it has eaten; one should take care in choosing what to put in their mouth!
Still! I also think that it’s rude to not partake in food that has been given to you! Or could it be that etiquette regarding this is different in the city?
Aira: What? So that lump of meat was neither found nor bought… You’re saying that you received it from someone? Argh, everything you say is too misleading!

Kaylee Bryant On "Legacies," The Importance Of Queer Rep On TV, Hosie, And More
"I have so many people constantly telling me that watching Josie on the show has made them feel more comfortable in themselves."
Tumblr media
This week, Kaylee Bryant squeezed us into her schedule to talk about their role as Josie Saltzman on Legacies. As a huge Josie fan, I couldn't think of a better way to spend a morning than talking to Kaylee about The Vampire Diaries, Hosie, our favorite books, and more! Here's everything we talked about:
1. What was your audition for Legacies like?
My audition process was very interesting because they kept a lot of it a secret. I had no script and a fake character name. And then I had my second audition, a chemistry read, which Jenny Boyd [Lizzie] wasn't even at. I walked in and immediately just flat-out asked, "This is for the twins, right?" So it was long, but short and intense at the same time.
BuzzFeed: Wait, did you know which twin you were going to be playing?
I initially auditioned for Josie, and then during chemistry reads, they started asking me to read for Lizzie. And then we had our final callback where I finally met Jenny and we both read for both roles. They never told us [who was playing who] until Jenny had her appointment to go dye her hair blonde.
2. What's a typical day on set like?
Gosh, it changes every time. If it's a busy day on set, we're talking like 8 a.m. call time where we spend about two hours on hair and makeup and go straight into rehearsals. If it's a big sort of episode that involves stunt work and wire work, you're talking about doing maybe two scenes in a day. But if it's an average day, we can do anywhere from three to five scenes and we can start at 8 a.m. and wrap at 8 p.m. It really depends. I'm surprised if I'm not surprised.
3. You’ve said you’re a huge fan of The Vampire Diaries. Josie played Elena in the musical episode — what was that like?
It was surreal for sure. They had talked a little bit about doing a musical episode since Season 1. And I always thought that they were joking when they talked about doing Salvatore: The Musical!, so when they said Josie would obviously play Elena, I was like, "Hahaha." And then I got the script and realized I actually was playing Elena. The musical aspect of it was the easy part. The difficult part was, I think, getting into the iconic Elena attire and trying to feel normal. Because we have a lot of crew members that worked on The Vampire Diaries, and they kept coming up to me being like, "This is weird. I feel weird."
Tumblr media
4. Do you have a favorite scene you’ve filmed with Courtney Bandeko (Finch) this season?
I really did love the scene that we had in the town square [when] we got on a moped. There were so many fans in the town square that were huddled in the rain — it was pouring rain, freezing cold — trying to snap photos of us. And it was kind of one of those surreal moments where it felt full circle, that I was on a Vampire Diaries spinoff in town square. It was a lot going on, but it was a lot of fun. It's always fun working with Courtney.
5. You and Danielle Rose Russell (Hope) also have amazing chemistry — what’s your favorite scene you’ve filmed together?
Oh gosh, we have a lot that are pretty amazing. Honestly, I'd say [Season 3] Episode 14 — we finally got to do a lot more scenes together. And it's always fun, especially when it's Josie, Lizzie, and Hope, because we have so much history character-wise. Any time you really get to dive into that, we love it.
Tumblr media
6. I know Josie and Finch are working through some things right now, but I gotta ask — how do you feel about Hosie?
I love it. Danielle and I loved the idea of Hosie starting from Season 1, and we kept asking and asking and asking for it. So it's kind of funny and full circle that now the fans have kind of taken our side with things, and now they won't stop asking for it. All we want is this beautiful, dynamic relationship. And I think that the fans want that as well.
BuzzFeed: Yeah, I mean, people have even been asking me about Hosie, and I don't work on the show!
Oh, I'm sure! [Laughs] Obviously I love it, though.
Tumblr media
7. Is there a particular Josie moment you’re really proud of?
Josie has a scene coming up in Episode 18 — or 19? — I don't know, but it's good. It's sort of the pinnacle of everything that Josie has felt over the past three years kind of culminating into one moment. So, I'm excited for people to see it.
8. You recently came out as queer. How has playing Josie, who’s pansexual, impacted you personally?
I felt a lot of pressure when I initially booked Josie because I was still figuring out who I was and what my label was. And playing a character who was so comfortable in who she was, it was inspiring [to me] in a way that I think a lot of other people watching the show have been inspired. I have so many people constantly telling me that watching Josie on the show has made them feel more comfortable in themselves. It's kind of amazing that we all have the same experience in that having queer representation makes you more comfortable.
Tumblr media
9. You’ve been vocal about your Asian identity, and your character has spoken Japanese on the show. Did you have a hand in incorporating that into Josie’s character?
No, not at all! So, I spoke Japanese a few times on the [Instagram] Live and one of our writers, Penny Cox, saw me speaking Japanese and immediately went to Brett [Matthews] and was like, "We need to make this happen somehow." And then all of a sudden, I had a script in my hands. So it was a surprise, but a fun one.
BuzzFeed: Are you fluent in Japanese?
Gosh, no! I'm barely fluent in English. [Laughs] I would say I speak at the level of maybe a second-grader on a good day, though.
10. If you could pitch any storyline for Josie, what would it be?
I always joke that I want an episode that takes place overnight. That way, we all have to be wearing pajamas the entire episode. I just want to wear some comfy clothes for a whole two weeks, that's my main goal. So we can have a pajama episode, that's my pitch.
11. What's it like getting into character for Dark Josie scenes?
It's different in the sense that I know Josie so well. And knowing Josie in turn makes me understand Dark Josie. I have a whole different playlist of music that I listen to for Dark Josie — and I have the wig, which helps a lot with getting into character.
BuzzFeed: Well, now I have to ask what music is on that playlist!
I think "Bury a Friend" by Billie Eilish is a great one for Dark Josie. Also, "Villain" by K/DA is a prime example of a perfect song for Dark Josie, so I listen to that one as well.
Tumblr media
12. What's your go-to Starbucks order?
Plain black iced Americano. Aria [Shahghasemi, who plays Landon] says I drink coffee like a sociopath. [Laughs]
13. What TV show are you currently binging?
I just finished watching Alice in Borderland, which is a Japanese show on Netflix. And I know Feel Good Season 2 just came out, so I think that's my next binge.
14. Damon or Stefan?
Stefan! They're both beautiful and I love them very much, but I'm Team Stefan when it comes to Elena.
Tumblr media
15. If you could work with anyone from The Vampire Diaries, who would it be?
Ian Somerhalder has a lot of dogs. So, maybe I want to work with him for the sole reason of just talking about dogs. [Writer's note: Kaylee revealed she has two rescue dogs, one whom was sleeping right next to them during the interview! Kaylee described the dogs as "both complete and total nuts," but said she misses them about five minutes after getting into the car to go to work.]
16. Do you think you’re most similar to Josie, Lizzie, or Hope in real life?
I would say I'm an eclectic mix of the three. I can be very headstrong like Hope, very outspoken like Lizzie, and I try to be as loving as Josie, but sometimes that doesn't always work. But I'd like to think all three.
17. Is there a role people would be surprised to learn you auditioned for, but didn't get?
I've been auditioning since I was eight, so there's quite a few Disney Channel shows and movies. And I'm sure people would be surprised because I think I auditioned for like, all of them. It's very funny, one of the first jobs I ever booked in television was Kickin' It with Leo Howard [Ethan]. Talk about full circle — going from being 12 years old and having no idea what I'm doing to being a series regular on [Legacies] and welcoming Leo to the set.
18. Who's your favorite Disney princess?
Oh, I love Mulan so much. She was, like, my first crush ever. I also love Moana, but it's Mulan 1,000%.
19. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I mean, I do eat rice every day. So maybe just white rice — you can make rice into candy and...yeah, let's go with rice.
20. If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring one book, what would it be?
Oh no! I recently read The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, and I really enjoyed that book. Oh god, Is that the one that I want to bring, though? I mean, I really enjoyed it and it has many different aspects to it. I don't know. Or should I go with Harry Potter? I go through different genres too, like right now I'm in a big sci-fi phase, but other times I'll go the opposite direction and only read biographies. Yeah, that's super hard. I don't think I would know!
21. On that note, what's your Hogwarts house?
Initially, when I was younger, it used to just be straight-up Slytherin. And now, I recently took the Sorting Hat Quiz and I got Ravenclaw. So I'm going to go with Slytherclaw.
BuzzFeed: What's Josie's house?
Josie would be Slytherin. She tries very hard and, you know, not everyone in Slytherin is evil. She just, you know, has her way of going about things.
22. Has anything super funny or embarrassing happened to you on set?
I trip a lot on set. I get scared very easily — if I come around the corner and somebody is walking the other direction, I get scared. Everybody knows to walk slowly around me because I get scared so easily.
23. What's your wildest fan story?
I've had people cry before. And I'm an empath, so if somebody starts crying, I immediately am like, "Please don't cry, because I'm gonna cry." And then it turns into this whole thing. Once we were shooting in the town square and this young girl with her mom started crying, and I just hugged her and I didn't know what to say. So there's a lot of that. There's also the occasional, "Where's your twin?" and...I don't have one, sorry! But yeah, I would say the people who cry always throw me for a loop.
24. How do you unwind after a long day?
I have an hourlong drive home from work, so I usually listen to a lot of music. And by the time I get home, taking off all of my makeup is very therapeutic. Because over time, we're working 13-hour days, 16-hour days, and it's just powder constantly building up on my face. So, washing my face is always very therapeutic. And then just laying back and reading a book and petting my dog is the best.
25. Is there a celebrity you get told you look like a lot?
Most recently, Sara Waisglass [from Ginny & Georgia and Degrassi]. We follow each other on social media now and I completely messed up because I don't know how Twitter works at all. I forgot that there's a DMing interaction, so we followed each other and I was like, "Oh, that's nice." And then just recently, I saw that she had messaged me being like, "We're twins! We should be friends!" And I immediately messaged back, "I'm so sorry, let's be friends!"
Tumblr media
26. Who's your biggest celebrity crush?
Oh, I have so many. But consistently since I saw Orphan Black, Tatiana Maslany. Hands down.
27. Finally, have you ever caught someone watching a TV show or movie that you're in on a flight or anywhere else?
We were all, as a cast, flying to — was it New York Comic Con, or San Diego Comic Con? — one of the Comic Cons. And we were all sitting there and we saw that Legacies was actually on the airplane as an option. And we were all just uncomfortably staring at each other. Yeah, that was surreal.
Be sure to catch Kaylee in Legacies, which airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW!

Are we alike? So True or False, Yes or No. Explain if you'd like. You are 16 years old. 16+6. You are a junior in high school. Graduating college senior. Math and Science aren't your best subjects. I was definitely more of an arts student. I only did great in math and science when I liked the topics we were learning, but otherwise I never felt like exerting as much effort for them as I did for classes like history. Your dog is really little. He’s medium-sized. He’s a really weird size actually hahaha and I guess it’s because he’s mixed. He’s too big to be classified as a small dog and too small to be grouped with the larger dogs. You love being tan. I mean I obviously don’t go advertising how much I love it, but it’s definitely nothing to complain about.
You think you are pretty for the most part. I have my days. You love making other people smile. Getting people’s approval is always a nice achievement. You love bracelets or just wearing jewelry in general. I think jewelry’s pretty but I’m particular about them – I prefer them to be silver and for them to have subtle designs, never explosive as I think that’s a tad bit tacky. Also I prefer necklaces to bracelets. TLC is one of your favorite channels on TV. It certainly would be if I still regularly watched television. I know for a fact Gab and I will tune in to TLC when I crash at her place. You have been in three different countries. Six, so far. You have ridden in a plane. Yeah well I live in an archipelago, so we’re separated from all the countries near us and have had to ride planes to get to them. You’re learning how to drive a car. I already did. I’ve had my license for four years. You have had 3 serious boyfriends. You believe you can only have 1 true love. As a demi this is typically how I think, but I like keeping my mind open. I know this is certainly not how it works for a lot of people, and that’s valid. You have a job. You have been to Aruba. No but if anything this reminded me of Friends because this was where Rachel was supposed to have her honeymoon before she ran out of her wedding hah. That contributed absolutely nothing to the conversation but yep. You love little babies or children :) Yes, and it increases as I get older. I have to practice for when it’s my turn, lol. You can't wait to get married one day. You always try to have a smile on your face. Not always. I allow myself to be sad or cranky if I want to. Your emotions change very easily. Sometimes. It’s not a dominant trait of mine though; I can typically keep my emotions consistent and it’s only volatile if I’m under a lot of pressure or stress. You cry very easily. Yep, I’m very sensitive. Earlier today I cried over a girl’s Tiktok about her dog with diabetes and the adjustments that had to be made for him, like how he stopped going down the stairs or sleeps a lot more these days. You cry a lot. Yes, because I cry easily. You have a boyfriend you have been with for a while. Girlfriend. You hate when people say 'I love you' too quickly. Idk, I haven’t had to deal with this.  The hair on your legs grow very quickly. Not very quickly but yeah it does grow back after a certain amount of time. I shave every one or two weeks. You always feel like your back needs cracked. It’s definitely not in the best shape, coupled with the fact that I already have scoliosis to begin with. You’re still trying to determine what you want to do after high school. I have career fields in mind but as for exact jobs, no. You love fashion. I like keeping up with what’s trending within my age group but I’m not obsessed with fashion at all, like I don’t know the fashion week schedules or who the biggest models are these days, and I still think some fashion trends don’t make sense. You love shopping for school dance dresses. You think decorating is very cool. It’s okay. I wouldn’t do it myself but I have friends who are great at decorating, like Laurice, and I think it’s a good and a pretty cool skill to have. You always seem to be cold. Not always, but I do feel cold more easily than the people I know. I’m always the first one to grab a jacket, a blanket, or to move further away from the AC. Still, I prefer being cold than hot. You love hot weather. Oh my god fuck no. 22 years of living in a tropical country and I’ve had just about enough of the sun which is all we get all year round. I can’t wait to live somewhere with a lot of rain and with snow. You have tanned in a tanning bed. I don’t have to; plus aren’t those really unhealthy to stay in? You aren't a very good cook. I can’t even call myself a cook. You aren't an independent person. Hah, no sir. I find comfort in doing almost everything with at least one person with me, even if it’s just grabbing a snack or having something photocopied in school. I went to UPTC alone ONCE just to try having dinner all by myself cause everyone seemed to have great experiences of it, but I hated every second of being alone. You like any type of food, you aren't picky. The only foods I’ll refuse are fruit and anything with raisins on them, but generally I’m not hard to feed.
Country is your favorite kind of music. You quit watching American Idol. I quit when I realized all the wrong people kept winning. If I remember right, the last straw for me was Scotty McCreery over Lauren Alaina. You like the show 'Big Brother'. I never did get into it, but everyone did. I used to think something was wrong with me for not enjoying any season of the show, but eventually I stopped caring. You used to like Jersey Shore. I was only interested in it because it felt edgy to watch as a 12 year old lmao, but I was never obsessed. You think tye dye is super cool. It’s definitely cool and fun to make, but it’s not the first, fifth, or thirtieth thing I’d wear. You love glitter. Your nails are almost always painted. Total opposite. You have had sex before. You have a best friend of the opposite sex. I have close friends, but no best friends. Andrew is the best closest guy friend I have, probs. You have been stabbed in the back a few times. You don't trust many people. Again, quite the opposite. I like to believe everyone deserves trust in the beginning, but I have a rule to cut anyone who breaks that trust out of my life. You don't have many close friends. I have a lot of friends but I like keeping my closest circle small. You’re normally nice to everyone. Duh? You like to meet new people. Egh, it depends on who it is. I can find other people exhausting to talk to from the get-go; or sometimes I’ll find them too different and I just know no friendship is gonna come out of it. Sometimes you can be pretty shy. I’ve learned to be a bit more extroverted through the years but I’ve never lost my trademark shyness hahaha. You don't have any secrets. This blog is a big glaring secret from everyone I know. Your boyfriend has supported you through your hardest times. Girlfriend. You have a scar from cutting your leg while shaving. Not right now, but it’s happened a few times. You think flowers are very pretty. They’re okay. I’m not crazy about them but I do like giving/receiving bouquets. You hate nature. I have no reason to; it’s peaceful and beautiful. You don't like animals very much. Love them. You like to eat meat, any kind. I wouldn’t try all kinds of meat. Like I wouldn’t eat cats, dogs, or anything that’s critically endangered. But I do tend to be adventurous with meat, much like with any other dish I try. You have eaten donkey before. You’re pretty close with your parents. Like I said in an old survey, we have a buddy-type of relationship. We don’t hate each other but we also wouldn’t have heart-to-heart talks with one another and we’re so not emotionally close. You are also very close with your sibling(s). My sister and I also tend to treat each other like friends, ^ just like that. We’re not emotionally close either; when my sister’s cat died last week I could only send her comforting messages on Messenger because we’re not the type to visit each other’s rooms and cry to each other. You don't mind being around your family. If there is anything I learned in the last two months, it’s that this exact fact holds true. You love summer. Only when there is a trip planned. Otherwise, I don’t enjoy the weather at all. You don't know how to swim. There were always a couple of months allotted for swimming PEs in all years in my old school, so I know basic swimming and treading. You like being a teenager. It was okay. It certainly got better when I finally fit in somewhere and got invited to teenager stuff. You thought you were depressed at some point in your life. I was, throughout my teenage years. These days I’ll occasionally have very low points, but I don’t think it’s severe depression anymore. You feel like someone is growing apart from you. No, not at this point in my life. You like to take walks. With this climate, I always bitch about walking haha. When school was still ongoing I would typically drive everywhere, no matter how near my destination was.   You aren't very good at buying gifts for people. I wouldn’t say this. I pride myself on being a good listener and by extension, being a good gift-giver. I’ve often made Gab cry with my gifts. You love seeing couples in love. Sure but tbh I’m partial to same-sex couples because I see them a lot less. When I see one in public I always make sure to give them a kind smile. You love weddings :) I haven’t been to one since I was 9, but sure. You are addicted to sweets. You get scared very easily. Only at night. You don't like to be alone. If I’m doing stuff outside, then yes this is the case. Otherwise I don’t mind having alone time at home. Many people have asked if you were black, but really you're white. I’m neither of these. You could do without the TV. Have been for a few years now. You text a lotttt. Back when everything was normal and I had load on my phone every week, yep. I don’t really need to text anyone these days, though. You tend to make extra letters on your words. Only occasionally. You hate when people use bad grammar. It only bugs me when I expect them to know better, like if an American is being cocky or racist but still fucks up basic grammar; or if a Filipino wants to act like a know-it-all and obviously has poor command of English, but still forces themselves to speak it when they could very well speak Filipino in this hugely bilingual country lmao. You have a little bit of chub on you but you aren't fat. Not really. I only get bloated after I eat but my metabolism is very quick and it disappears relatively quickly. You are pretty good at rollerblading. I was never good at it even though I practiced a lot. I generally have bad balance. You wish you were a good gymnast. Sure, I feel that this is a very cool skill to have. I remember being fascinated by the gymnasts from Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo and how prettily they spun their ribbons. You are a competitive cheerleader. I am not, but it was one of my dreams. You are very uncoordinated. I wouldn’t say very. I’m not very physical these days and I can be clumsy, but my hand-eye coordination has stayed sharp all these years from playing table tennis; and I was good at futsal and had good reflexes when we had to play it for PE. You aren't good at making decisions, but you try your best. You love God very much :) This is such a hard pass it deserves a strikethrough.
You love lotion and perfume. I love the variety that’s available out there, but I don’t splurge. You wish you could own everything in Victoria's Secret. You wish you could be a model. You hate when girls are sluts. Even the word ‘slut’ isn’t gonna fly by in 2020, much less this entire statement. You hate when people act dumb on purpose. Don’t we all? You don't care what other people think of you. Depends on who it is. Some opinions will matter, and some won’t. You love to cuddle. You wish you could bake. I wish I can be good at the kitchen in general but tbh I always let my fear of fire and knives take over and I’m always left too scared to learn. You would like to own a pool. When I’m richer, sure. You kind of regret a few things... You want a little tattoo that no one can see. I kind of want my tattoos to be personal to me, yes.

Like Oh 2.0 - #HITTHEGYEOMSDAY
Previous Chapter: My Hand Goes Word Count: 2,740 Summary: A day after Melanie’s birthday is Yugyeom’s and despite what happened at Lotte World, the male wants to celebrate his birthday with his members and the sisters. Even though Yugyeom nor the others have decided where they wanted to eat yet.
Like Oh 2.0 masterlist
omg yeah, now it’s Yugyeom’s birthday in the story and we’re getting closer to the end of the story. still a few things left before we get there. hahaha so hopefully some of y’all had enjoy this so far and if not, then it’s all good. but yeah, happy reading and kthxbai, Admin Lia~
Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom were the first ones at the entrance waiting for the two pairs to show up. Well, one pair they knew for sure was joining them while the other pair they were still waiting for a response. "Don't you think we should stand away so that no one can recognize us?" Youngjae quietly asked his fellow members as he was aware they were only like two meters from the entrance as other people were passing by. "We should be fine, hyung." BamBam assured. "Well, Mark hyung still hasn't responded back so I don't know if they've left yet." Jackson informed his members with a sour face.
"Chaewon noona would meet us here." Yugyeom said. "But I don't know where they were." "Did Mark hyung said where he and Jyongri noona were, Jackson hyung?" Jinyoung asked as Jackson was still on his phone awaiting a response. "No." "So either pair could take a while. We'll have to wait then." Jinyoung stated although he was suppressing a small smirk from forming. "How long do we have to wait?" Youngjae whined. "My stomach hurts." "You could have eaten on the way over here, hyung." Yugyeom told him with a pointed look. "We had plenty of time before coming here, too. Or you could just go back in and grab a snack."
Youngjae frowned. "I don't wanna go by myself." "Then just wait, hyung. We'll be eating soon." BamBam told him before spotting two familiar figures exiting the theme park. "There's Mark hyung and Jyongri noona." He ran over to them excitedly and hooked arms with Serena soon after. "Hi." BamBam cooed as Serena almost hit the male idol upon having some weird person latching onto her. "Oh, Bam, hi." She greeted after calming herself down. "Where's the rest?" "Over there." He pointed as he led her towards the others making Serena released her grip from Mark who frowned at the lost of contact while following after them.
"Oh, hey Jyongri noona." Yugyeom beamed when she, BamBam, and Mark got closer. "Are you joining us for dinner?" He asked hopefully as Serena put up a smile. "Uh, about that." She let out slowly. "I was just going to have Mark take me home." Jinyoung raised an eyebrow upon hearing that as he cast Mark a knowing look who just remained expressionless as to not give anything away. "Aww, why not?" Jackson asked with a pout. "It's still early and it's almost Yugyeom birthday in a few hours." "Oh, right. I forgot that your birthday is a day after Chaewon's." Serena eyes widened at the fact, but still shot the male an apologetic look.
"Sorry, Yugi, but I'm tired and I don't have my glasses. I can't really see right now because my contact lenses was starting to irritate my eyes." She explained as the youngest GOT7 member frowned. "Okay, noona. You don't have to if you don't want to." He said dejectedly which made Serena changed her mind. "But, since we're already out and about I guess I can join you for dinner for your birthday." Yugyeom's face lit up. "Really? Thank you so much, noona." He came forward and pulled Serena in for a hug who wasn't expecting it and laughed awkwardly as she patted his back while hugging him back just as awkwardly. "Welcome, Yugi."
"Oh, what's this, unnie? Are you actually being nice tonight?" Melanie teased as she and Jaebeom joined the group of seven, but were no longer holding hands as BamBam had dragged Melanie to them like he had done with Serena. Also Jaebeom wasn't too happy about the lost of contact with Melanie either. Serena rolled her eyes while pulling away from the hug to stare at her sister. "I forgot Yugyeom's birthday is a day after yours, so I have to be nice to him." "Oh, yeah, I forgot about that, too." Melanie looked over at Yugyeom. "Is that why we're going to eat out? Because it's for your birthday?"
"It was because we were hungry, but I remembered it was my birthday and we probably won't see each other and I wanted us to hang out some more." Yugyeom said with a bright smile. "That's cute, Yugyeom." Melanie cooed as she patted Yugyeom's back. She looked over at Serena teasingly and nudged her. "That's why you're not going home, huh?" "Yeah. Gotta make the birthday boy happy." Serena answered with a smile. "Alright, let's go." Jackson exclaimed with an excited tone, but then frown. "Wait, where are we gonna eat again?" Jinyoung sighed. "I thought I already told you guys to pick one earlier."
~~~~~~~
The group ended up at Serena's place out of convenience to not run into fans and the fact that neither of the boys knew where they wanted to eat. Also, Serena had a reason to go back home as to wear glasses. GOT7 were anticipating the rabokki dish that Melanie had made along with two other dishes of omurice and korokke that Serena had made as well since she didn't think the rabokki was enough. "Enjoy!" Melanie told them with excitement as she sat in-between Yugyeom and BamBam while Serena sat in-between Youngjae and Jackson.
"Eat up because Chaewon doesn't cook that often and might eat all of it." Serena teased as she helped herself to her own dishes as she wasn't a big fan of rabokki. "True." Melanie agreed with a laugh as she served herself a large helping of rabokki. "But unnie might eat all of the korokke, too." "Haha, that's true, too." Serena chuckled while the other seven happily dug into their meals with BamBam savoring the flavors. "This is delicious." "I guess." "It's whatever." Both sisters commented as it was a normal taste for them as they had to actually cook more often for themselves since leaving home.
"If you guys open a restaurant I would totally be there every day." Jackson stated as Youngjae agreed. "Yeah, me, too." Jinyoung let out a satisfied sigh. "It's so good to eat a home-cook meal. Thank you, noona." "Welcome." Both sisters chimed with smiles on their faces at making the boys happy with their cooking. "If only you guys could make us food every day." Yugyeom said with a sad tone despite his happy face slurping up the rabokki. "By that do you mean like lunch boxes or dinner boxes?" Serena asked for clarification as Yugyeom nodded happily. 'Yeah. "Nah, too lazy for that." Melanie dismissed with a laugh. "Too much work."
"I wouldn't mind since it would mean more food for me later if I actually do it." Serena thought about it as Melanie glared at her. "Are you gonna make me one?" "No. You live too far unless you spend the night." "Rude." "Wee don't want to impose, Jyongri noona." Jaebeom suddenly spoke up upon hearing Serena's possible offer as Mark nodded in agreement. "Yeah, besides our schedule varies every day and we don't want to disturb you about it." "Oh, true." Serena remembered that their schedule was different unlike hers. "Okay, then. Never mind." The younger members and Jackson let out sad groans.
"Well, we can still enjoy it now and whenever we come over." Jinyoung said as he tried to bring up the mood. "You're right about that, Jinyoung." Melanie smiled. "Why I usually visit just to eat." "And to sleep and bother me." Serena added as Melanie grinned. "True." "Anyways," Serena began while standing up, "There is one more thing to do. Chaewon." Serena motioned her head towards the kitchen which prompted Melanie of what she was talking about as the sisters remembered they had a small cake in the fridge for Melanie while cooking dinner. They decided they would use it for Yugyeom's birthday instead as there weren't any writing on it.
"Oh, yeah. We'll we back!" Melanie announced while standing up and following Serena towards the kitchen. The males continued to eat and didn't question what they were up to and just let it be. It wasn't until they realized they brought out a cake with one candle and were singing the birthday song. Yugyeom grew shy upon it while his members joined in on the singing as the sisters placed the cake on the table before Yugyeom. There all cheered once more when the song came to an end and Yugyeom closed his eyes to make a wish before blowing out the candle.
"Yay! What did you wish for?" BamBam asked as Melanie nudged him. "It won't come true if you say it out loud." "Oh, right. I forgot." "Anyways," Serena interjected diverting the attention else where. "Happy birthday, Yugyeom. Congrats on winning the Hit The Stage final, too." She let out a yawn by covering it with her hand, "Um, just leave the dishes in the sink and I'll take care of it tomorrow." She stood up along with taking her dirty dishes with Mark looking at her questionably. "Where are you going?" "I'm going to bed after I put these away. Anyways, y'all know the drill and Chaewon's still here. Again, happy birthday, Yugyeom."
"Thanks, noona." Yugyeom smiled at her thankfully as Melanie shot her sister a thumbs up too busy munching on some omurice while Serena made her way to the kitchen. "Do any of you guys wanna take some home" Melanie asked them a second later. "Oh, yeah? Please?" Youngjae asked with a hopeful look. "It would really make my day." "Okay, Youngjae. Anyone else?" Melanie looked around the coffee table as the other six also nodded too busy eating. "Alright. I'll portioned some for you guys." She smiled while getting up and walked to the kitchen and left the boys among themselves to speak.
"So how was your date, Mark hyung?" Jackson cutely asked Mark with a smug look as Mark gave the younger member a bored look. "It wasn't a date, Jackson." "Of course it was." BamBam disagreed as he also looked over at Jaebeom. "Only Mark hyung and Jaebeom hyung ran off with Jyongri noona and Chaewon noona while hanging out and eating together at Lotte World without any of us. That was an unplanned date. Or was it?" He gave the older members a sly look causing Jaebeom to narrow his eyes at him. "Watch your words, BamBam." BamBam laughed nervously. "Ha, ha, ha, fine, okay, okay, JB hyung."
"Wait, I'm still confused." Youngjae said while looking up at the ceiling. "Isn't Chaewon noona's bias Mark hyung and Jyongri noona's bias JB hyung?" He looked at the others. "Right?" "That's right, hyung." Yugyeom remembered. "How did you know that if you weren't at the fan-sign?" "Jackson hyung." Youngjae chuckled as Jackson pretended that he didn't say anything while stuffing his face with more food. "They'll hear." Jinyoung warned them with a whisper. "Besides, we shouldn't even be talking about this. You all know we can't date. We're still under contract." The others grew quiet as they ate their food not really talking.
Meanwhile the sisters were having their own conversation in the kitchen. "So you rode The Conquistador with Mark?" "I did. He held my hand so tightly. I wasn't sure if he was scared or not." Serena answered with a laugh before giving her sister a look. "Did you enjoy yourself with JB?" "I did. We ate a lot though after the incident with the cousins." "Haha, sounds about right, but I'm so happy that we didn't run into them again after that. Can you believe that one girl still called Jinyoung, Jay Are, though?" "Dude, Serena, I know right. I thought Dayoon was smarter than that, but I guess when it comes to celebrities she changes like Yerim."
"Fans nowadays are still the same as the ones from back then, but just way more aggressive with their feelings and actions." Serena said with disbelief and a shake of her head. "I really hope those two get it in their head to not do that though. It's not healthy for anyone." "I agree." Melanie nodded. "I haven't talked to Dayoon since summer break and the girls told me that she dropped a lot of classes so she could spend time following idols with Yerim." "That's sad. Anyways, you just be careful, okay? Don't need anything happening to you again, too." "I know. Thanks."
Serena hummed in response as she finished sorting out the containers of omurice for them and the boys. "Still though it was really weird that your bias grabbed my hand and mine grabbed yours at Lotte World, right?" "It might be because they're comfortable with us." Melanie reasoned as she scooped the last rabokki into the last container. "I know that's how it was for me when I started school here with Seolbi who helped me out on my first day compare to that one girl who was supposed to show me around." "True." Serena had finished portioning the rest of the korokke as well. "It was fun, but weird." "I think so, too."
"Anyways," Serena pushed the containers of food towards Melanie, "You give these to the boys because I'm gonna wash up and knock the fuck out." "Lazy." "Says the girl who's the laziest." "True." Melanie laughed as she stacked all the containers on top of one another before placing them into two separate clear bags "Want me to tell them goodby, too?" "Please?" "Fine. Night." "Night." The sisters bid one another a good night as Melanie returned to the living room where the boys had finished all of the food. "It's good that we decided to give you guys a lot instead of a little then." Melanie commented as she set the bags on the table. "Here you go."
"Thank you, noona." GOT7 thanked Melanie as they piled their dishes together. "I'll take these and put them away for you guys." Melanie said as she grabbed the dirtied dishes. "You're welcome and unnie says good night." She told them before making her way back to the kitchen. "That's a lot of containers." BamBam said seeing the four medium containers and two smaller ones. "Did they give us all of it?" Yugyeom asked confused. "No we have some." Melanie answered returning to the living room with another grocery bag. "Here's some drinks, too." She set the bundle beside the other one. "Don't worry, but we have a lot of these, too."
"Thank you." The group thanked her again. "Welcome." Melanie smiled. "You guys can return the containers whenever. No rush. We still have a lot." She told them with a laugh as the group began making their way to the door. "Have a good night guys and happy birthday to you, Yugyeom. I'm sure the fans and everyone else has something super awesome planned for you!" "Hehe, thank you, noona." Yugyeom smiled. Everyone bid her a goodbye as they each left the apartment to head over to theirs one by one with Jaebeom still lingering behind as he told them that he'll catch up in a bit.
"Did you want something, JB?" Melanie asked the leader upon seeing the idol still standing in front of her and not quite out of the door yet. "Um," Jaebeom stalled while rubbing the back of his neck nervous. "I just wanted to talk to you for a bit." He told her while mumbling the last few parts. "Alone without the members hovering over my back." "What?" "Ah, it's nothing. I hope your birthday at Lotte World went well today." "It did. Thank you so much for showing up and hanging out. I really appreciate it." Melanie smiled which warmed Jaebeom's heart as he smiled his signature eye-smile. "I'm glad you had a lot of fun."
"I did and next time, JB, could you try to let me pay, too?" Melanie stated with a look. "I mean I know it was for my birthday and all, but you didn't have to." Jaebeom chuckled as he scratched at his chin for a second. "Did I?" "Yes you did, but thank you." "You're welcome." Melanie shyly gave him a smile as she held onto the door as she wasn't sure what else to do. "I should get going before Jackson comes looking for me." Jaebeom said as he stepped out into the hallway. "You're biggest fan." Melanie laughed as she gave him a wave. "Good night, JB, and thanks again." "You're welcome, noona. Good night and sweet dreams."
171216 Premium Unit Event #1 Jinyoung & Youngjae Full Fanacc
They were dressed in their Kono Mune Ni stage outfits - Jinyoung in a white shirt and Youngjae in a black silk shirt.
When they went up stage, Furuya-san (MC) asked them to introduce themselves. Basically it must be → "Hello! This is GOT7" then their names, but since JB was not here, the 2 stumbled a bit and said the phrase "We are GOT7" unsynchronizedly, then giggled in embarrassment.
When it's Jinyoung's turn to introduce himself, he lifted the mic to fast with exceeding strength, making it collide into his own teeth with a "BANG!". JY immediately held his lips like a kid clearly suffering but YJ just laughed loudly bc his hyung's accident is just so cute
Since the event hall is very small, the "Bang!" sound from Jinyoung's mic even echoed harder, making it even more embarrassing for him. To cover up that embarrassment, JY quickly said "Everyone, I'm okay, I'M OKAY!" while his plumped lips from just got even redder ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
JY: (still embarrassed) Hmmm... Japan is really hot eh?  MC+YJ+Agases: ?????  MC: You meant like.."hot"? Really? In this winter weather?  YJ: Not...cold at all?  JY: Totally not cold at all. But hot. Since everyone is here~~~  MC: You meant Korea is SUPER COLD, while Japan is a bit warm, but here is TOO HOT bc your fans are here?  JY: *shy* MC: Everyone~ Is it hot in here?  Ahgases: Yeah~ㅋㅋㅋ  MC: Hey (that reaction is) cold~  JY: Sorry~ (for the lame joke)  MC: It's okay, took only 2mins anyway  YJ: AHAHAHAHAHA
MC: How do you feel working as an unit and having unit event like this, just 2 of you?  JY: It's the first time we do this as an unit right? Well after all, aren't we the best (among the 3 units)?  MC: You even make ranking of the units in your group???  JY: Of course! ㅍㅅㅍ JY: It's special. Since this is the 1st time we promote in this form, I'm super happy to be able to do event like this.  YJ: It's somehow "fushigi" (=strange)!  MC: Strange?  YJ: *innocently* Yeah strange desu yo↗︎!   JY: I'm sorry this kid says strange stuff sometimes. YJ: Uhm can we...sit now?  MC: Of course of course!  YJ: *in tiny voice* Uhmm and...I need water..please... (HIS OTTERING IS SHOWING!!)  MC: Ahaha okay~ *calls staff*   YJ: Oh and...uhm.. 2 water please For Jinyoung hyung too~  JY: Awww *holds YJ's hand* (my child is) so kind!♡♡♡
Furuya-san then asked some staff to get water for them immediately (seemed like they didn't expect Youngjae to ask for water so they didn't prepare) while
JY: *raised both hands to clap nobly* Water please~  MC: Wow such a courteous way of ordering, sir!  YJ: ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
When Furuya-san was asking for water into his mic so that the background staff could hear, Youngjae even said in tiny voice "Everyone, please gimme water~" in that super adorable expression while bringing his hands together. He's not an idol. He's an otter ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
MC: I went to your Osaka TURN UP show last time!  JY: Alone?  MC: Yup  JY: After the show we would definitely want to greet you, but you didn't show up..  MC: ....  YJ: Were you busy!?  JY: It's totally okay though....  MC: ....  YJ: Were you busy!?  MC: ...... JY: No, really, it's okay  YJ: I WAS OKAY TOO! But this place hurts a bit *places a hand on his chest*  MC: ...  JY: Why~  MC: Hey it's premium unit event today and you two came just to bully me??  YJ: Teehee sorry~  JY: He must have been "I forgot ehe~"  MC: NO I DIDN'T  JY: ㅋㅋㅋ MC: But the live was really amazing! Your stages were so cool! "Kono mune ni" perf was splendid too!  YJ: Oh really? So among 3 units which one is the best match to your style?  MC: ...  JYYJ: *turns to interpreter noona* Tell him he must answer right away! Must answer right away! MC: After all, it's "Kono mune ni" for me!  YJ: But after one show when we  asked which stage he liked best he said "Bam's 97 Y&R stage was~"!  MC: Oh no no I didn't say such terrible thing!  JY: Wow~ *unbelievable face* MC: *tries hard to convince 2young* I'm just a man seeing life in rose color  JY: Woa~ "life is colored rose" huh?  MC: Yea "life is colored rose"! This gentleman here really says something impressive!  JY: *giggles with his wrinkled eye-smile* ㅋㅋㅋ
MC: Let's talk abt their unit song. What thought did you have in mind when you wrote this song, Youngjae?  YJ: Its original name is "Daijoubu" (It's alright). Geunde...demo... (both mean "but")  MC: Awesome! Translating by himself!  YJ: AHAHA~  JY: *pats YJ* It's okay, just go on! :)
YJ: Its original title was 괜찮아/Daijoubu, but during the process of translating the lyrics I wrote, many changes occurred gradually too. 괜찮아 means "Wherever you are it's still okay, I'm still here. As long as you come back to me it'll be okay". That's what I had in mind.
MC: Jinyoung, when you first listened to the song how did you feel?  JY: I thought it's a very well written song. It's a song containing so much of Youngjae's own color, that's why it's really fun when we practiced it. MC: So you mean you can feel the emotions in this song while practicing, that's why it's enjoyable right?  JY: Honestly speaking if a song sounds so-so to me I wouldn't want to practice it, but this song is different! It inspires me!  YJ: AHAHAHA~  JY: Gotta do what you want right!? MC: So basically you won't feel the urge to practice songs you don't like?  JY: But not this song!! What I said is just for example!  MC: If your company gives you songs you don't like you'll be like "I don't wanna practice~ don't wanna~" too?  YJ: AHAHAHA I'M SO HAPPY XD MC: Also, the piano scene in your unit teaser is awesome!  YJ: Oh really? You saw it?  MC: Wh...what did you mean by "saw it"?  Of course we saw that's why we are talking about it now, right?   YJ: AHAHAHAHA OH RIGHT HAHAHA  OUCH *almost choked on his own spit*
YJ: I just wanted to play the piano, since it's how I made "Kono mune ni". I wrote lyrics for it first, then made the melody after using the piano. That's why I wanted to put the piano playing scene into our video too. My scene was filmed as exactly as how I created the song.
Since YJ's Japanese is still limited, all the explanations on Kono mune ni were in Korean and got translated. But YJ always ended his long explanation with Jpn phrases like "imi desu" (It means~) or "deshita" (that was), which was really cute
 JY: He's really studying Jpn hard!
JY: YJ's scene was easy. Mine was hard tho. At least YJ still could play the piano, while I had nothing to do!! Like, just sit there and made blank face. PD would tell me "Look that way!" and I was like, *looks*. When it's done, I was just "Thanks for the work!" then went home  MC: "Kono mune ni..." stage was great, but of course we're also looking forward to Budokan live too!  YJ: Yes please look forward to it! Because~  All: OOOHHHHH~~  YJ: WOOOHH~ hehe let's stop here! I will just reveal this much! JY: So, who are going to Budokan!?  Ahgases: \\٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و//  MC: ' v ' JY: WHO. GONNA. GO. TO. BUDOKAN??  MC: *finally realized he is targeted* Wait, are you bullying me now?  JY: *shrugged* Again, who gonna go to Budokan? *turns to look at interpreter noona*  YJ: She has schedule alr~
MC: Let's move to Unit song associated game. It's confession time!!! Please give it an applause everyone! *Kono mune ni is playing*  YJ: Why did you play Kono mune ni when the atmosphere is about to hyper up like this?  MC: Now using your song title "Kono mune ni..." (In this heart), let's try confessing something you can't say normally to each other! Since today there're only the 2 of you here, I think it will help strength your bond too.  YJ: *already places both hands on his left chest* MC: Youngjae, you feelin' it? Anything (confession) came out (from your heart) already?  YJ: *tugged the shirt's neck to look at his bare chest inside*  MC: Wait this is getting strange!  YJ: Still nothing~  MC: GYAAA WHADDA YOU LOOKING FOR FROM THERE!?  YJ: Nothing coming yet~  MC: Jinyoung first! Confession please!  JY: *Thinking REAL hard*  MC: Wow his head gear is running desperately at the moment  JY: Can I have some times? I can't recall any, so maybe I'm just gonna make one.  MC: "Making" something to confess, okay.... ^^'' MC: So Youngjae, your confession?  YJ: *also thinking hard* Hmmm.... I ONLY like everyone right now~ HAI IT'S A JOKE! HAHA~  JY: Oh wait, how about everyone? Do you have something to confess to us?  MC: What a splendid thing! Now they totally kick the question to their fans  YJ: Anyone wanna confess? You! *points at a random fan*  Ahgase: Gyaa kawaiiii!  YJ: Kawaii? Okay so her confession to me is I am kawaii
Youngjae then went off the stage all the way to a fan at 3~4th row to ask her confession. But her voice was small so
YJ: I can't hear you. Let's speak louder, like this *places the mic to his mouth* Ah AH AHHHHHHH And it was very explosive. I hope the fan was alright.
Another ahgase: Actually I want to ask a question more than a confession to JY. 「Jinyoung-san」「Jinyoung-oppa」「Jinyoung-hwangjanim」just「Jinyoung」&「Jinyoung-chan」which do you like best?
YJ: From my perspective it's Jinyoung-chan~♡  JY: Hmm I'd like to be called "Jinyoung-oppa" MC: Everyone let's call "Jinyoung-oppa" together!  Ahgase: Jinyoung-oppa~~  JY: Hey, are you alright? That noona over there clearly looks terrified by the "oppa" thing. She kept shaking her head like this *imitates*  Ahgase: No I don't~  JY: Noona if it's hard you don't need to try, okay~
JY: I now got one confession to YJ. It's an apology though. In the van that takes us around for activities, YJ always practices his singing and enunciation. But I'm really sleepy... and it keeps blasting to my ears...  MC: Always?  JY: Yeah always... YJ: Because I'm a singer, and I got a super loud voice. Plus the van is small so my voice echoes even more...  JY: So when YJ isn't looking, I....secretly turn UP the volume in my earphones....  YJ: I gotta confess to hyung too! Everytime JY hyung feels cold he'll turn on the heater full-fledged. When he does that, it's super hot for me, so when he's sleeping I secretly adjust the temperature DOWN All:   YJ: Bc the hot air can't flow outside, I just switch it OFF~ MC: Well then, with these confessions as an opportunity, will anything in the van be changed in the future for the 2 of you?  JY: I will...just turn up the volume of my earphones louder~   YJ: And I will turn down the temperature of the heater more lol~
After this was the fansign segment, and last greetings before the event ended. Both of them said they're looking forward to seeing Ahgases again in Budokan. When they both exited already, JY playfully peeked out from the stage wing again to wave at fans and tease Furuya-san lol.
after moooonnthsss...
HELLO TUMBLRINAS!
This gonna be a very super long post! Cus ive not been updating for so many months!
Its been so long. So so so long since last I updated my Tumblr!
Pardon me, I’ve been so busy in life and I couldn’t find a single second to update my blog!
So many things happened for that last few months! Wait.. my last proper update is in the February!
And that’s when Ozil is still 2 months old! But nowwwww….he’s 7 months old already! He’s half of a year now and how I wish I could stop him from growing! Tehee!😝🥰
Many things happened lately. No, I mean for the past few monthszzy….
On the March, while I was busy planning for Mama’s Fabulous 50th Birthday. I felt something wasn’t right with myself. Myself kept telling me to check a Pregancy Kit. It last for 2 weeks I felt that way, I have tried to brushed it off as it is impossible for me to be pregnant again when Ozil is only 3 months old during that time. So after 2 weeks of having that feeling. One night, while Ozil is sleeping and the husband was in the room playing PS4, I decided to take the balance of my pregnancy kit that I still had during Ozil’s time. So I went to the toilet, urined on it, waited and waited and tada! The result is out! It was a clear 2 lines!!
I was so shocked, super shocked to the point I check the packaging whether it’s a expire kit! Haha. But no… I paused for a second in the toilet. I open the toilet door, stand infront of the toilet door for 5 seconds, the husband turned at me and asked why im standing there stonely. With my voice, softly I told him “B, I pregnant lagi…” while showing him the kit from far. His face was shocked, he paused a second and then “Merepek lah b.” He thought I was playing around like how I always do to him haha. But no, this time serious sia! Haha. Dengan cepat, I went up to him, showed him the kit and he smiled…”Alhamdullilah b” And I was like… “Serious uh?” HAHAHA. So I asked him “B nak check lagi tak? Impossible ni.” So he said yes and I took another 5 more kits to try! haha
Tumblr media
After done urined on all the kits, yes all result is the same as the picture above!!! ITS A POSITIVE RESULT!!! Alhamdulillahhhh....
5 kits with 2 clear lines on it! I was shocked again! IT WAS SO UNBELIVEABLE!
I went out the toilet, went to husband and showed him all the kits! He smiled again and continue main game. Serious uh? Gitu je? Then I said… “B I have to go through the labour againnnn….” Hahaha. And that period of time, I couldn’t believe there’s a heartbeat in me! Ya Allah!
So I scheduled to meet my gynae few days after that. Did the scan etc, and was told , my pregnancy was already 2 months old! Another shocking part! So Ozil was 3 months during that time, and my 2nd baby is already 2 months old! Haha. Alhamdullilah, afterall, I’m truly blessed. Right after everything, I still kept this secret from mama! Thought of surprising her during her birthday party, but nope. She gonna be damn shock infront every single one! So I surprised her before her birthday party!
Tumblr media
Mama's exact reaction after I told her! She was shocked, in a total shocked!😅 Papa kat sebelah dengan tangan cakap "Alhamdullilahhhhh.." hahaha
Tumblr media
This is what i wrapped and gave her for present. Dengan gambar scan terus bagi mama!😅hehe
And then… here comes her birthday party on the 24 March.
Tumblr media
Planned was successful! I managed to call everyone in mama’s families to join the fun! Alhamdullilah mama is in so much happiness!
And right after mama’s birthday celebration, Ozil got caught with diarrhea! Diarrhea for 2 weeks straight! It was super super tiring. Changing his diapers every 1 - 2 hours because he been pooping nonstop and it’s a watery poppy! After the 2 weeks straight, he got caught with high fever! And then the husb got caught with high fever. After the high fever, Ozil got caught with Flu & Cough. Non stop I tell you. Ozil been falling sick and sick and sick, and then husband pulak jangkit Ozil, and then my turn, and then back to Ozil. The cycle kept running. Honestly, my maternity leave ends on February and was supposed to start work middle of the March. But i’ve been coming and not coming from March till June! Yes, I just started my working days properly starting this week! Since March I’ve not been coming for the whole week, or either coming to work 2 or 3 days in the week.
I was really tired, and what’s more during Ozil having diarrhea, high fever etcetc, I was on my 1st trimester. And honestly, I wasn’t pay much attention with my pregnancy during that time. I put my full attention to Ozil. Alhamdullilah, everything’s getting better now.
And now.. I’m on my 2nd Trimester and will be ending soon next week. But I still had migraines, muscle cramps.
My 2nd pregnancy was super different to be compared during Ozil’s time.
When I was pregnant with Ozil. I was super super exhausted ONLY during the 1st trimester and that was normal lah eh. Then I entered 2nd trimester, I was super active. Super active that I can still travel from Johor-Singapore-Johor every single weekends when I had to work. I remembered how my husband followed me in the morning took train from Johor to Singapore, then he went home to sleep and then in the afternoon when I finished my work, we will meet up at Woodlands checkpoint and trained back to Johor. Every single weekends we will do that. Sampai dah tahu timing2 nak book train macam mana haha. Also I remember, when the trains is out, we had no choice but to take bus to Johor. The Q was super long and we stand nearly 2-3 hours at the JB custom. I can still happily doing it haha
And then during my last Trimester at 7+months, Alhamdullilah, we received our house key. And then during that period of time, we was super busy. Renovation etcetc. We went up and down for our housing renovation. We went to and fro Jurong-Bukit Batok-Jurong every single day with my yes, 8 months tummy haha. I was still strong to go through it everyday without feeling tired! Imagine how heavy it was carrying the 8-9 months tummy to and fro! Till the day I gave birth!
But my current pregnancy was super different. I’m only at 6 months now and I already felt so so heavy, felt super lazy. Ya Allah, part malas ni jangan cakap uh. Malas semalas malasnyaaaaa… Even my colleague Makcik Siti tegur me “Sabrina… Cik tengok kali ni Sabrina mengandung lain sikit. Cik tengok takde seri langsung. Masa Sabrina mengandung anak 1st, Sabrina selalu datang kerja hari2 pakai eyeshadow. Tapi kali ni, 1 makeup pun takde.” Haha. Seriously, I myself don’t believe im out without makeup! Not even a single face powder! Super bare face to work everyday. Im always out atleast ada eyeliner, but no, not a single eyeliner too! Yes, I assumed it’s the pregnancy homones! Confirm2 pregnancy hormones uh! Mana aku pernah keluar takde celak atau bedak pun! That was so not me eh takde makeup! Hahaha. So yes, this makcik was so so true! She even said “Masa 1st anak, badan Sabrina Nampak kosong. Kali ni punggung Sabrina naik.” Hmmmm…. What else should I say? Even mama told me I was super selekeh this pregnancy haha.
Please bear with me for awhile people! After this pregnancy, I will be back to myself ok! Hahahha
Well.. I was super blessed. Blessed with what Allah has gifted me nonstop. One after another of rezeki I received! But through it all, I know everything that happened ada hikmanya. Truthfully, this wasn’t a plan pregnancy. It was superb unplanned! So so unexpected! But that doesn’t mean unwanted or unloved, It just means Allah knew what I needed before even I did. Alhamdullilah for every single thing.
After I got to know I was pregnant, the first thing first I wanna know is whether it’s a single baby or a twins or triplets! Haha. Because me & my husband born with a family genes of twinny & triplets! So that was the very 1st thing I concern was! Kalau kembar ke triplets, ya allah, another blessing but another thing….pengsan kitaaaa hahaha. But still.. kalau Allah nak beri rezeki, siapa kita nak tolak kan? But alhamdullilah, there’s only 1 in me. AND! THE NEXT THING I WANNA KNOW IS! YES! THE GENDER! Gender is the main thing me, husband and my family wanna know! But still… it doesn’t matter if it was a girl or boy. Truthfully, I don’t mind if it was a boy again, because Ozil ada friend to play with! And if it was a girl, I ada friend to play makeup makeup with! Hahaha. So both is totally fine for me. Also husband is super supportive. Either boy or girl, both he is super fine. Yang penting…. Ive to go through 9 months again ehhhh! Haha.
Alhamdullilah… everything is getting better. Ozil is 7 months old now, and we as his parents already know how to manage in taking care of a baby haha. But still, there’s more for us to learn lah kan. Futhermore, now Ozil is 6 months where foods is starting to play apart. So besides milk, I have to be ready to feed him foods. I’m so excited to explore more in him! Can’t wait to see him walk especially! Haha.
As of now… I’m in the midst of planning for Ozil’s 1st year birthday! Kiasu gile kan! I know! Haha. But I wanna make a big birthday party for him! 5 more months to plan, and I already got sooo many ideas for his birthday! Definitely making a happening birthday party for him! And what’s more we will be having adik with us also during Ozil’s birthday! Hehe. Couldn’t believe Ozil and his adik is 11 months apart haha.
I guess that’s all for now.. Don’t know when will be my next post after this. Haha. Been super busy with life. But as usual, ive been updating my daily life through Ig stories.
But before I end this post…
I wanna congratulate my sissy who just got married last 2 months during Puasa month!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
CONGRATULATIONS KAKAK & ABANG RA!❤
I was super happy seeing you finally married!
After all that you have been through over the past years, you definitely deserve this happiness! More and more happiness! Allah listened. So here it is.. He gave you the happiness you have been craving for, wanted for, wishing for and has been prayed for.
“Bercinta selepas bernikah..” That’s what you ever told me it would be beautiful if you ended up that way. And tada! Allah has make you ended up that way! See.. Allah plan is always the best. Always always the best. Cuma kita je yang tak nampak dan tak faham kenapa Allah uji kita. Allah uji kita sekarang, tapi pengakhirannya nanti akan jadi indah. Insya’Allah.
HI GUYS!!!! Oh my, it’s been a looooooong while. I actually went through my blog and re-read everything and I’ve noticed that I was always saying how “I don’t know what to and how to do blogging anymore” in most of my previous posts but I PROMISE THIS TIME, I LEGIT DON’T KNOW WHAT TO WRITE OR HOW DO I DO THIS ANYMORE because I haven’t done this for like forever. It felt like I’m starting again!!! Okay sige, I’m not gonna babble more. Let’s just hop right into my post.
Okay, so as what I’ve mentioned on my previous posts, I’ve entered Third Year or the Medtech proper last school year 2016-2017 and that’s (also) the reason why I was gone for a very long time. Idk, I just found myself being swallowed by acads and all that jazz that I never really had the time to write a single blogpost. There’s so much that has happened in my entire Third Year life and I wish I could’ve had written any of’em and immortalize the memories on this blog and hark back to those times... but sadly, I didn’t. Anyway, as you can probably tell on the title, this post would be a “rundown” of my experience as a Third Year Medical Technology student.
(Wait, how do I start?)
We started the school year earlier than the normal students in our university due to the reason that we were trying to chase the schedule for the 1-year internship so everything would fit and we would end just right on time for the graduation (yikes chills) because as you all know, we are one of those pabibo schools who embraced the academic calendar shift. So the clinical subjects I took this year are as follows:
1st Semester
MIC111 – Bacteriology
PAR100 – Clinical Parasitology
GPHC100 – General Pathology, Histopathology and Cytopathology
CC111 – Routine Clinical Chemistry
HEMA111 – Hematology 1
MTLBE100 – Medical Technology Laws and Bioethics
LMS100 – Laboratory Management and Supervision
2nd Semester
MIC112 – Mycology and Virology
UBF100 – Urinalysis and Body Fluids (Clinical Microscopy)
HEMA112 – Hematology 2
SIM100 – Serology and Immunology
CC112 – Continuation of CC1/ Special Chemistry
CC113 – Endocrinology, Toxicology and Drug Testing
IMH100 – Immunohematology (Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine)
 I can’t believe I already passed all these subjects let alone the first sem subjects!!!! Personally, I think First semester is harder than the Second Semester idk maybe because it’s the time when we were just and still adapting to the new and toxic environment of Third Year life and the transition is quite overwhelming. Also, the passing rate was raised from 60% in Second Year to 70% in Third Year. I CAN’T EVEN!!! Plus the laboratory practical exams had an upgrade to like 5x that of the Second Year pracs. There’s legit a time when I went back to my dorm during lunch break just to cry because of a practical exam and a fair share of tears were shed at nights when I have no idea how to fit and finish everything before the sunrise. Also there’s a day when, for the first time in my life, I called my mom after I got back in my dorm from school and cried for my dear life because EVERYTHING WAS SO HARD.
It’s also during First Semester when I learned how essential it is to know the time difference from night (let’s say 7pm) to 5am the next day and how to utilize it very well because your life literally depends on how you manage and distribute it to sleeping and studying because you know, you’ll only have to read 1-3 chapters per subject and you only have like 3 quizzes the next day for the lecture and probably a practical exam or a long quiz for the laboratory in the afternoon. JUST HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PREPARE FOR THAT IN LESS THAN 10HRS???--- is all I was thinking then. That’s how resentful and pitiful I was back then.
We were taught the laboratory skills we need— Venipuncture (of course! the freaking highlight and a must), Blood Smearing, Staining, Pipetting!! Oh God forbid, I loathe glass pipetting so much! Direct Fecal Smear... and all medtech-y skills. I love Bacteriology so much. It was the subject I got the highest grade during First Semester. The lecture and laboratory were both the bomb.com. But ofc, I wouldn’t forget the anxiety the Unknown has given us. For our finals in the lab, we were given unknown organisms and we were to identify it via Biochemical Testing and everything we were taught of on how to identify such. It took me so long to decide what my organism was because some of the biochemical test results weren’t at par with theoretical information so imagine my anguish. Our grades basically depended on it so... yeah.
Tumblr media
 but in the end, I decided it was Enterobacter cloacae.
Another memory from First Semester is the time when we were to submit Enterobius swabs as additional points for our Parasitology laboratory. I took my bestfriend with me to hunt down possible patients. It was such a memorable experience, I have no more words. I poured all the feels on this Facebook post.
 Also, I’ll never forget about First Semester is the day when we had our Grand Practical Exam in our laboratory subjects and it was the time when 3rd Floor HSC was in a total dishevelment. We were taking turns and rotating in different labs to have our moving practical exams simultaneously--- one section is having their Histopath moving pracs, the other is having their Bacte moving pracs, then another section is on the roil in Hematology moving pracs while the other one is having their Parasitology Moving Pracs and the like. That was the most intense day ever imaginable.
Also on that day, was the first time I was able to extract blood on a practical exam!!! I can never forget how stupid I may have looked for shouting “Hala may dugo” when blood oozed out from my partner’s vein. I was never able to bleed my partner in almost all the practicals we had due to my infamous phobia with needles and I was legit surprised and awed when a blood came out that day!!!
For the events of Second Semester... I’m not really sure?? lol even though it’s the more recent semester, I can’t remember much from it coz it went like a blur to me. It was so fast it was so unreal that it actually happened!!! (and that I passed!)
Okay. One thing I could say about Second Semester is that I fancy UBF hahahaha I’m not sure if it’s the subject itself or teacher factor hahahaha but to be honest, it was so fun to study and probably the easiest of the panel of subjects for second semester (or so I thought).
The laboratory learning and insights this semester gave me more of the medtech feels because most of the experiments/tests we did in the lab were the ones that are being performed in the actual laboratory setting. I will never forget the struggle of dilution in Serology lab. We aren’t allowed to use calculators during the entire semester and of course as someone who absolutely hates math and computation, that’s. the. worst. nightmare. ever. So given that situation, imagine our surprise during the Final Laboratory Written examination when our instructor finally allowed us to use calculator. Everybody in the class was in awe because that’s super unexpected. We didn’t have much of moving practical exams this sem compared to the numerous ones we had on first semester. The practical exams this time were more like skills-based and principle application. Slide identification-kind-of-moving practicals was surprisingly nakakamiss.
Self-pity time: Two semester have passed and no one was able to extract blood from me huhuhu do I even have veins??? :------(
Just to give you some insight, there are:
4 major examinations in each lecture subjects
2 major written examination in each laboratory subjects
(100-item identification)
Moving Practical Exam in each laboratory subjects
Skills/Application Practical Exam in each laboratory subjects
Pre and post quizzes in every meeting in each lecture subjects
Pre and post quizzes in every laboratory experiments
Long Quizzes every after chapter
Long Quizzes before major examination in each lecture subject
Long Quizzes before major examination in each laboratory subjects
Surprise quizzes whenever the professor would like
Not to mention the drawings of each specimen in laboratory manuals in each laboratory subject
2 Journal readings in each lecture subject
So ayun, hindi po kami OA and nag-iinarte. Our lives literally revolve in exams and quizzes.
Moving on, last May 09, we had our Pre-Internship Program which is a prerequisite before you can proceed to the actual internship. On that exact day,we took a 700-item Diagnostic Examination without any notice and I literally just came back from an 8-hour trip because I went home in Bicol so I was sitting for like 14 hours straight!!! We had series of practical examinations for two weeks, a Phlebotomy seminar with BD Philippines, a tour in a National Reference Laboratory which is the National Kidney Institute and an Oral Revalida.
CAUTION: Photospam ahead.
Tumblr media
I’m not sure if this is enough to summarize everything because I can feel that it’s not even in the slightest bit justified on this post. Maybe it’s one of the wonders of life that cannot be really put into words. (But you tried, self what are you doing hahaha)
Suffice to say that all these experiences; the nerve-racking and heartbreaking quizzes, no-sleep days, tears, sweats, blood (hahahaha legit), cramming moments and all other hardships are the variables which played significant roles in this endeavour which lead me to where I am heading right now. I’m so happy and proud to share to you guys the next step I’m taking in this career path. I am now officially a Medical Technology Intern at St. Luke’s Medical Center – Quezon City under the Institute of Pathology. I know, I can’t believe it myself that I was able to pass through the needle-hole like hurdle you call “Third Year life”. SLMC is actually my first-in since we are to undergo 1-year internship and we will be having our second-in next semester in another hospital.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
 I will be forever thankful to Trinity University of Asia especially to Dean Rodriguez for always making sure that the quality of education/ training is there. Thank you for a super hands-on laboratory experience and our very own DIagnostic Laboratory in the 4th Floor. It’s like a simulation of the environment that we will be facing in the near future. Would also like to thank our Clinical Instructors:
Mam Majo Liao
Sir Jude Anthony Trinidad
Dra. Mary Anne Isip
Sir Mark Francisco
Sir Mel Destacamento
Mam Gigi Dayrit
Mam Violie Bascao
Mam Suzzette Lumanga
Mam Rona Gonzaga
Sir Joshua Descamparado
Sir Nikko Onate
Mam Krystal Tio
 for gearing us up with all the lectures, wisdom and skills that we would need  to be the Medical Technologists that we are aiming to be.
 ---------------------------
Other significant life events during the course of Third Year life:
 I became an Altar Server at the Shrine of Jesus the Divine Word. Hashtag dream come true.
Tumblr media
I was elected Medical Technology Councilor in the University Student Council. Hashtag unreal.
Tumblr media
All glory and praise to the Lord God above. Thank you for guiding me in almost everything I do. Thank you also St. Jude Thaddeus for interceding for me. Forever grateful and blessed.
That’s pretty much how I can sum up my Third Year life. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing it! Thank you so much for reading yet another long blog post of mine. See you on my next post (hopefully there’s a next)!!!
question meme, again! c: tagged by @gvenevera. hahaha hey vera, thanks so much for tagging me ♥
Rules: 1. Post the rules 2. Answer the questions given to you by the tagger 3. Write 11 questions of your own 4. Tag 11 people
1. What’s your childhood anime?
when i was a kid, we had a big screen television set up in the living room and my brother would binge watch full metal alchemist, fruits basket, one piece, and naruto there whenever he had free time. i always somehow ended up joining him for those little screenings, the unsuspecting sufferer to his passionate spiels about the characters, his speculations on plot, and the splendour of the story worlds.
out of all those, the one i’d really call my childhood anime is probably full metal alchemist. like, omfg. i had... this... hopeless crush on edward elric. /headdesks he was just. he was cute. i remember myself being so darn happy knowing he was a total shortie, just like i was, and i’d mouth his name quietly to myself as i watched him on tv because i liked the way it rolled off my tongue. THIS IS SO EMBARRASSING.
2. Social media? Which one’s your favorite?
hm, up till a while ago it was twitter - it’s sort of a handy depository of my thoughts (fangirly, and then not.) now, it’s probably tumblr. i’m fucking addicted. there are so many amazing people here??
3. Does your name (real or penname) have any meaning?
jamie doesn’t - my mum just chose it because all my siblings have a name that starts with ‘J’. it’s just a neat little commonality lmao.
shipeo, on the other hand, is the korean word for ‘want/desire’. i chose it because of its inherent meaning, and how it seems to describe my fascination with fandom. like, you see, when i love things, reblog things, interact – there’s some void within me that i’m trying to fill, even though i mightn’t realise it at the time. there’s a want inside of me that keeps me coming back to this strange endless cycle of consuming and creating content, whether it’s a desire for companionship, for romance, for excitement... and for me, shipeo encapsulates my own descent into self-indulgence, into falling so deep into my desires for no reason other than the fact that i want to.
also, i hear this word all the time in korean music and i like the way it sounds. c:
4. How many meals do you eat in a day?
um, around two. my sleep schedule has been pretty messed up lately, and that’s affected my appetite, so...
5. Are you afraid of ghosts? Or horror movies?
if ghosts exist, and if they look anything like they do in horror movies (they probably don’t) – then yes. ;__; i’m getting the fuck out of there.
i’m alright with horror movies, and i enjoy them to a great degree, but i do have to watch between the cracks in my fingers sometimes. HAHAHA. i’m definitely game to be scared shitless though LET’S DO IT. lol can you tell how contradictory i am??
6. What kind of phone do you use? iOS vs Android?
iPhone 5! c: i’m an apple nerd. ugh, it’s their branding, i’m tellin’ ya. i’m a fool for their philosophy.
7. How many languages can you speak?
English, Chinese, Conversational Japanese.
8. Which fic would you rather read: Major character death OR Non-consensual?
MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH HANDS DOWN. non-con makes me kind of queasy c’: and um, a major character death would be the opportune chance to do a character study and to flesh out what the surviving character really felt for the deceased. there’s that delicious turmoil and hurt, of course, especially if there’s unfinished business between the two characters. but more than anything, i appreciate how MCDs often unearth some deeply fundamental truths as to what it is for us to truly love someone. through everything that happens post-death, it gives some shape and form to the abstract impact that another soul can make on our lives. physical things, now laden with more meaning than ever before: an extra toothbrush left fraying in its holder. old strands of their hair on the floor and in the dusty corners. their online profile, pristine and untouched, like the owner had only disappeared for a little while.
there’s always a prevailing theme of inevitability and of regret, of our smallness as human beings. it’s a bitter reminder of what little power we truly have when faced with our own mortality. these are experiences that are intimately connected to our experience as creatures who love things and fear to lose them. stories like that? they remind us of our humanity. i mean, these are things we should celebrate. god, it hurts, but i think it’s worth it for that moment of self-reflection.
9. How do you feel about spoilers, especially for manga/anime?
i don’t mind it. fam, i’m a really chill person. i’m not going to freak out just because someone reblogged/tweeted/posted something they got excited about. hahaha. i tend to find more fault with myself than with others tbh.
besides, sometimes knowing what’s coming can get you more hyped for a series. c;
10. Favorite travel destination?
japan. that place is beautiful, steeped with culture, and unlike any place i’d ever been. kyoto was downright mystical and I WANT TO GO BACK SO BADLY.
11. Describe your OTPs – what do you think they have in common?
friend, i have too many OTPs.
bsd: akutagawa/atsushi, bnha; todoroki/midoriya, bakugou/kirishima, opm: saitama/genos, no. 6: nezumi/shion, pmmm: homura/madoka, nno: yoite/miharu... just to name a few.
i think i tend to like... the interplay between past hurts and healing.
one of the characters (A) normally has a near-unattainable goal, something that occupies them almost every minute of every day, makes them miserable without them even realising. enter B, who shows A a side of them they had never before thought of as valuable/important – usually a side of them that’s more tender/caring. more often than not, this leads to A becoming a better person because... well, love makes you want to be better. that’s definitely what atsushi does for aku (i mean, he could,) what midoriya does for todoroki, what kirishima does for bakugou, and what saitama does for genos. i also tend to like banter, undeniable chemistry, and any pairing with a deep canonical bond. i love relationships where the characters fulfil each other, in a way that is unique to them alone. give me all that heartwarming shit, ya’ll.
;___; j-just... anything to fill the void in my heart.
i’m not gonna come up with questions or tag anyone since i already did on the previous question meme! c’: fuuuck it’s 3am and i have a meeting in the morning fml GOOD NIGHT WORLD
What If? (BTS Q&A)
Hey my lovelies, HAPPY SUNDAY! Hope you all had a great day whether you are stressing out >< or whether you are having holidays. Good new is, if you are living in Malaysia, you will have Gawai holidays! (or only Sarawak for that matter?)
But anyways! Thanks guys for leaving me ‘What If’ questions to answer on instagram. I find this really fun as i saw a lot of people doing this on instagram! It would be really nice to know what would you do if you got caught up with your favorite celebrity nice to know about your thoughts on something as well! Anywayy, i want to thank you guys deeply again.
So basically, my ‘What If’ questions are about BTS in general! Like for example: ‘What if i met Jungkook?’
So shall we start?
Tumblr media
^^ very cute picture or gif above by the way!
Okay.
Tumblr media
1) What if kookie asked to stay in my house because he doesn’t have any place to stay? - asked by @/pewtaepie
Answer :
Omg, this answer got me shook, thanks so much ;-; Okay, OF COURSE i would i mean- but the problem is it would be more awkward because i stil live with my parents. But however, if that is the case then ofc i would still offer him a place to stay, because poor kookie! :( But if i was staying alone (no dirty thoughts here) of course everything would be less awkward because there will be no one around except me. Of course being me, i would be breathless and freak out like a potato. I would REALLY GET HEART ATTACKS. Don’t blame me if i DIE on the spot. Then, once i calmed down i would probably ask him whats the matter! Of course, (i want life to be as good as the fanfics ;) ) Hopefully by him staying at the the house we can be close friends because kookie and i share many similar interests. I would ask him to cook together and do chores together. Go to the mall together and help me with those groceries :’) Oh! and also play piano together with him singing by my side. (and you know hopefully it gets somewhere) JUST JOKING! OFC OBVIOUSLY in reality we have to sleep seperate rooms because if my virginity was lost I WOULD BE DEAD MEAT. My mother would slice my head off :”) lollll sorry the answer was just supposed to be short, but i made it freaking long.
2) What if you found out you were childhood friends with one of the members of BTS? - asked by @/yourbutterflyy
Tumblr media
Answer :
Holy moly. The answer would be that im very very absolutely shook. I mean out of the blue someone tells me that i am actually connected to them? :’) daebak. Of course, knowing me i cannot sit still. I have to meet my childhood friends because i mean- childhood friends are precious. However even if i meet them they have got to remember me right? :D  If our memories were rooted very deeply or in the case that maybe he got amnesia, i would ofc try and help to recover his memories :’) And me myself would try and remember all the things we did together and then as we reunite we would have many things to talk about and so that we can recreate these memories together again :’)
3) What if you had to choose a BTS song that you have to sing in your life forever? - asked by @/namjinmochi
Tumblr media
Answer:
WOW. I had a hard time thinking of this one. But i would choose ‘Butterfly’. Its the song i fell in love at first sight. BTS songs are mainly really catchy and energizing and there are less ballads (won’t really call this a ballad) (i think its a cross between a ballad, and hiphop?) but this song gave me FEELS. IMMENSE FEELS. I cried when listening to just the instrumental version, and don’t mention the prologue. The prologue got me bawling and i could hear the butterfly instrumental in the background. ;-; This song gives me feels that can break my heart but at the same time heal it. Its like a lullaby that heals my tired and weary heart. The melody of it is very easy to remember and so its pretty chilly and cool when you can easily hum its melody :’) another song is probably run (ballad ver) i cried literally! those high notes hit my heart & also Spring Day. the lyrics are really meaningful and its a melody that you will remember for quite a long time.
4) What if you had to choose one song BTS sang to you? - asked by @/unnati_8230
Tumblr media
Answer:
Hmm like the previous question, one of my fav songs is Butterfly so i would love them to sing that :’) because i really want to see their passionate faces when they sing this song. its really aesthetically pleasing.
5) What if i found BTS living a block down from me? - asked by @/taes_suga_kookie
Tumblr media
Answer:
ASDFGHJKL!!! WOAHH WOAHHH okay. I need to chill. Like this, i am practically good as being their neighbours! Being a good citizen i would probably send some gifts for the new comers :’) because i mean its BTS and of course i have a high chance of seeing them so i want to do good deeds as their fan! Of course, if i had the chance i might even get invited to their house, but due to manyyy privacy reasons i would also try to limit myself, because their neighbourhood might be flooded with fans, and i hate crowds so... advantages and disadvantages. (the neighbourhood would be filled with screaming fangirls) but hey at least i fulfil my wishes right? :’) i am already pretty fortunately staying close to them. maybe i hope we can all be good friends too haha! there would be soooo many things to talk about.
6) What if you became BTS’ new manager? - asked by @/bangtanfamfic
Tumblr media
Answer:
OMFG WHYYY OMG AHHH - ;-; umm umm of course i would be freaking happy for this job offer like- omg! BTS’ manager its like the best job on earth :”) however being a new manager i should not attract much attention. Also, i think i need to toughen myself up because of all the fans who love to push people. I cannot be fragile on this job :’) but i am willing to learn. But things like planning schedules and doing things for the boys is a-okay! IT WOULD BE HEAVEN. I would get to talk to them everyday, and there are so many opportunities for us to get close and ofc i would get to see them in their everyday lives (it would be pretty interesting) because all i can see is them outwardly on stage and everything- but not like behind the scenes. I want to see yoongi working on music, i want to see them practicing and everything! :’) ofc, i want the previous manager to teach me many things as well! SEJIN OPPA! TASUKETE. (LOL Y JAPANESE HAHAH)
7) What if you found out that your bias is actually studying in the same school as you? - @/preciousbngtn
Tumblr media
Answer:
Hi i love you Christina and i will answer this question HAHAHAHA. BUT OI OMGGGG- If Jungkook was studying in the same school as me i would be shook asf you know. I WOULD FLIP. Obviously i want to introduce myself to him like ‘welcome to this school im rachel’ or something like that. BUT I BET THERE WILL BE SO MANY GIRLS GOING AFTER HIM  which leaves me out a chance :’) because i am always super slow hahaha! if its like this, i won’t really bother until i see him with no one. I don’t want to cause a ruckus either :’) (ill be a good girl thank you) i want to treat him like a normal classmate and friend. the rest can be all up to fate :’) of course it will be a distraction in class!!! i will not be able to pay attention damn it.
8) What if i was BTS’ girlfriend? - asked by @/ttaevmin_
Tumblr media
Answer:
OMFG!!!! OKAY UHM I CAN’T BREATHE. Okay, let me start with each member. Because you said BTS, so i will just cover members one by one.
If i was Namjoon’s girlfriend, we would sure talk to endless hours because i believe i can talk comfortably with him, maybe even learn new things together :’) and he can teach me many new things as well! I am sure there’s lots of things to share! our dates can be anywhere!
If i was Jin’s girlfriend we would soooo go grocery shopping together and cook amazing stuff for the boys :’) we would scold the bangtan kids together muahaha! ofc, because we share our common love for pink we can fight people who hate pinkeu :’D and ofc our date can be something simple like just stay at home and eat each others food! (i don’t mind!)
If i was Yoongi’s girlfriend, i would try to get his ass out of bed, cheer him up with my wierdness and optimism. (we are total opposites btw) i will cheer him and motivate him daily as thats what he may need? (i will make sure i see his gummy smile) And because i love to compose, i would also do lots of composing works with him :’) i would soooo drag him out of the house and have fun HAHAHAHA but its a win win situation, at times i would just stay at the house if he wants too! however, on days
If i was Hoseoks girlfriend, that would be heaven on earth because Jhope is mostly similar to me. I am positive and optimistic, always happy,bubbly and friendly. We would so laugh at a lot of things and entertain the boys and be second hand embarassments as well :’) our dates can be anything! i mean- i believe hoseok seems like a very mature man to me.
If i was Jimin’s girlfriend, i would treasure this little precious mochi :’) i would treasure him more than i treasure myself. Because his sweetness is no joke, it needs to be soooo protected. i would proabably cause lots of embarassment to him anyday, HAHAHAH but my main goal would just to be a good girlfriend and give him lots of love. Our dates can be anywhere! im not picky :)
If i was Taehyung’s girlfriend, that would be heaven on earth as well. because uhmm character wise i am like Taehyung as well and also because taehyung’s ideal type is very much like me. i would get along with him pretty well and i think taehyung will be reaally sweet and also a protective boyfriend :’) i can very much imagine that he will love his girl til death and so being his girlfriend i would love him wholeheartedly and give him my all.
Lastly. If I WAS MY BIAS’ GIRLFRIEND.
If i was Jeon freaking Jungkook’s girlfriend i won’t think i will able to live for even a second. The moment i saw his smile i immediately knew that there was something about him. and from that moment, we actually have lots in common (except the fact that he is good at everything) being his girlfriend would be really humurous and funny as i feel like i am dating someone near my age. (he is just one year older than me) i think we will share lots in common and we will have many things to say as well! i don’t care if he is not good with dates or girls, i just want him to be jungkook. :’) our dates can be anywhere! but since he loves the beach we can take a drive down to the beach and hold hands in the sunset like how romantic right??!! i would live to see his cute smile anyday and i will do my best and my all to see him genuinely happy with me :’) not because he is my bias but because i love him as he is.
9) What if Yoonmin isn’t real?- asked by @/lustyoongi
Tumblr media
^^ OII HOTNESS OMFG
Answer:
I WOULD FLIP. IMMA PACK MY BAGS AND GO TO KOREA AND SEE WHAT’S WRONG jokes i cannot do that but IMMA PACK MY BAGS AND GO TO KOREA. And i am not leaving until i attend all their fansigns and get them back to shape :’) anti climax : on the side of reality i would be really devasted and just cry tissues away.
10) What if BTS had given up from the beginning? - asked by @/hoseoklq
Tumblr media
^^ this is so funny like omfg
Answer:
To be honest, if they have given up i won’t be as crazy and wierd as i am now. BTS has been a factor that pushed me to become a stronger person. They are people that inspire and admire me. If they had given up i would no longer acquire this strength. BTS all in all is my happy pill, just seeing them brightens up my day. it will be a huge mistake if their group wasn’t there anymore :’( there would be a hole that kpop is missing out on. then they wouldn’t know what they would be able to achieve and how much their fans adore them. BTS’ music leaves a strong impact on the young generation. Not just the lyrics and music but also their power and image that they bring. BTS is also known as a group filled with members of different unique personalities and together they are the most beautiful moments of our lives :’) teens need to know a lot about youth and they need someone to speak up for them and to tell them ‘i know, i have gone through this, but its gonna be okay. ‘not today. today we fight.’ they need message of love and strength. thats why BTS is a group that i feel is close to me even if they are miles away.
and finally, if they had given up, IMMA PACK MY BAGS TO KOREA. (lol why am i like this) LIKE YOU AINT GONNA LEAVE LIKE THIS BISH (JOKESS)
11) What if Jungkook wants to be my secret admirer/what if he admirers me? - asked by @/kookienochu
Tumblr media
Answer:
oKAY...OMG. Uhm, of course i cannot stop him from ‘liking’ me but it depends. Speaking from reality point of view, i don’t really believe in love at first sight unless love builds up through genuine relationships, but if he likes me i would totally feel the same way. but if we aren’t really close yet i always suggest to be my friends first :’)  but if he already knows me so well, then i think i will be ready to be his girl. I mean i may like him and all but in the end, relationships need to be genuine in order for true love to exist. i mean- no matter how much  i claim to love him, i would only like the idea of dating him, but that doesn’t mean i love him. Okay, so if i was already his really good friend and he knows me like so damn well, obviously i am ready to start this relationship. There needs to be a perfect timing and a perfect bang! to it. Even so, i need to know that whatever obstacles may pass, we must sort it out rationally and not just fight and break up for stupid reasons. Moreover, i would really feel grateful, because i was always called ugly in school, so its good to know that he finds me beautiful in my own ways. :’) remember guys, its not love just because your heart always beats around a person. its not just love if you are crushing on love. love withstands time and it takes lots of time and effort to accept someone and know their flaws and accept them still :-)
lol i would save love talk for later. I am considered a ‘love doctor’ by my classmates and i always give ‘advice’ so if you want you can always DM in my instagram! :)
And that is all folks!
Do follow me on instagram if you want its @/kookiemonstae!
If you want me to do more stuff like these you can always suggest and leave comments for more!
Losing 14 Kgs in 6 Months without Going to Gym & Doing Particular Diet – 2020 in Review (1st Semester)
Like most people, I was looking forward to 2020 with full of hope (since I had a choppy 2019). I vowed to dedicate this year to really focus on myself, thus, I have mapped few things that I should and could improve, the #1 in my priority list is my health.
Why I put health as priority? (instead of financial or getting married, for instance)
The way I see it, taking care of my health shows the love I have for myself, my body. By making sure that I'm in a healthy condition, I'm also reducing great percentage of catching up diseases that may impair not only my body condition, but also my financial condition (and maybe getting ready for my wedding attire hahaha).
To make it clear, weight-loss isn't my ultimate goal. My intention is to live a healthy life and it is a journey that only ends once my time in this world is up. The weight will fall off as side effect of the lifestyle changes -- and it's an easy-to-measure approach.
I have tried multiple diets, registered to gym, used paid exercise apps but they never last. Then I thought maybe all these times I only focused on the numbers, instead of the life I wanted to live. There I had an A-HA moment that this time, I have to start with the right mindset, accepting that it will be a long-slow journey, thus, I HAVE TO BE PATIENT WITH THE PROCESS & MYSELF. It is the one thing that kept failing in my previous attempts, so I pledge to be more compassionate and patient towards myself this time.
HOW DID I START?
I knew I still need some guidance to help me improving, then I chose to use a healthy-lifestyle-guide app called Noom – this is not a sponsored content. They branded themselves as an app to help people losing weight (I guess because it markets the app better) but from my experience, they helped me much more than losing weight. I paid around 100 USD for 1-year access (means less than 10 USD/month) which is WAY LESS than what I used to pay for gym membership. Noom touches on basic requirements on living a healthy life – balanced diet, active body, and sufficient rest.
  I started 2020 with overweight status. For a person with 1.5 meter high, my weight was boasted to 65-66 kgs. By BMI standard (this is not a holistic benchmark but a good starting point to a weight-loss journey), I should at least reduce my weight to 57 kgs to be in 'normal BMI' category. I never imagined I would be able to reduce 8-9 kgs off my body because I had never done this before. But I guess, don’t let our mind restrict us from our real capabilities, agree?
FOOD I EAT – Calorie Deficit Theory
From Noom, I learned that a healthy lifestyle is very much to do with WHAT WE EAT. At the same time, Noom also mentioned that no food is bad food. We can eat whatever we want, in moderation. That’s the key. The higher calorie with less fibre a food is, the smaller the amount of it we should take while the less calorie with high fibre content a food is, the more amount of it we should take. In other words, we need more veggies and fruits intake than those instant noodles or cakes.
 Why? Because we can eat large portions of veggies and fruits until we feel full but in reality, we only consume little amount of calories compared to eating a package of instant noodle which has high calorie but may still leave us hungry and wanting to eat more.
 I started off changing my diet by replacing my breakfast with smoothies (consisting of fruits I love, milk, and chia seed), controlling my food portion (I eat using small bowl), and eat more veggies. How about carbs, you ask? TOTALLY FINE – as long as it’s in moderation! Our bodies need it anyway. Bottom line is, we need to aim that the calorie we consume is less than calorie we use in a day. That my friends, the calorie deficit theory. This isn’t a perfect theory and there are arguments about it but it works on me (and other Noom users).
  GET MY BODY MOVIN’ – Make Exercise A Routine
Noom doesn’t stop there, it also touches on other basic topics on Exercise and Rest in quite details so that we can have a holistic approach towards living a healthy lifestyle. However, on these 2 topics I would bring you out of Noom discussion.
  Apart from working on restructuring my eating habit, I also got advices to start exercising from my best friend. She’s a mother of a very active 5 y.o. boy yet still has time to take care of herself and her figure. Exercising isn’t only helping me with burning calories but also building up muscles so that they can help me to tone up and burn EVEN MORE calories on their own.
  She suggested me to take a look at free exercises on YouTube (which I had never explored before) and specifically mentioned Chloe Ting’s workout as she provides full-schedule workout challenge for her audiences – again, not sponsored. I initially thought that High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is more effective in shedding some weights (and more cool too) compared to Low-Intensity Interval Training (LIIT) one. After doing over 3 of Chloe’s challenges, I found out that most progress I had seen in doing a month-long challenge came from LIIT workout. There was 1 month I lost over 7 cm around my waistline (I was totally shooked), while I never achieved that kind of result with my HIIT exercise, YET.
 Based on my experience, if you want to restart your exercise regime after long-time of taking time off, start with Low Intensity workouts first to get your body used to moving and keep you motivated to do it few times a week (I personally working out almost every day now). After 1 month or you feel stronger, start to incorporate High-Intensity yet short training to your routine to increase your strength.
 Exercising isn’t solely about how we look but also the feeling of strength that is built within our body, one rep at a time.
 REST – I gotta be honest with you, I have yet to find way to rest quickly and well
But I know, my body needs (at least) 7 hours of sleep to function normally during the day. So I still aim for that, while keep figuring out on how to sleep earlier.
How Christina Lost 50 pounds, 31 Total Inches, and Did Her First Pull-up
I love inspiring success stories.
I especially love sharing stories from real people with busy lives who have struggled in the same way most of us struggle:
Multiple failed attempts at weight loss.
Mental baggage and challenges to overcome.
Negative self talk.
Yo-yo dieting.
Christina, a years-long member of the Nerd Fitness community, is somebody who has gained and lost the same weight more times than she can count. She grew up with negative self-talk, chased lose-weight-quick strategies, and struggled to love herself through the ups and downs.
After her husband stumbled across Nerd Fitness (smart fella), he told her to consider joining our community, and I’m so thankful she did!
Two years ago, we launched a beta version of our super fun 1-on-1 Online Coaching Program, and Christina was one of our guinea pigs that signed up!
In those two years, she has transformed inside and out, and I’m so excited to share her story today. In these two years, she has had this great level of success without access to a gym without crazy dietary restrictions or calorie starvation, and finally loves herself in the way she deserves to be loved!
Although I’m very proud of the fact that Christina has invested in herself through coaching program month after month, I know you’ll learn a lot from her story.
At the end, I’ll share with you EXACTLY how to make your changes today. No more negative self-talk, no more reliance on motivation or willpower, but a focus on systems and progress and accountability!
Let’s see how Christina transformed…
How Christina lost 50 pounds and finally started loving herself
Steve: Hey Christina! Can you take us through a typical day before you decided to level up your life?
Christina: This is embarrassing to admit, but here’s a typical day when my husband would travel for work, which was about 2 weeks of every month:
Wake up, drink coffee, eat some string cheese, check emails, eat more cheese, drink more coffee, check more emails, watch a show or two on streaming media, check more emails, eat more cheese, switch to Diet Coke, grab some Taco Bell, tutor kids for a few hours, grab a beer or two with friends, eat pizza or some kind of horrible take-out, watch more TV until midnight or so, then head to sleep.
Steve: Taco Bell, pizza, beers, cheese on cheese on cheese, tons of take-out…sounds like a typical diet for many people struggling to lose weight.
Was there a specific moment when you decided to make a change?
Christina: It was more of a bunch of small things:
My blood pressure was kind of high.
My cholesterol was creeping up.
I struggled with being out of breath with the simplest of tasks.
Walking anywhere in Boulder for long periods of time meant open-mouth breathing. So embarrassing 🙁
Oh, and learning to snowboard was nearly impossible. There were days we’d drive the two hours to the mountains, I’d go down the bunny hill once, and be done for the day – I didn’t have the physical or mental stamina to try again.
I’d then sit in the lodge and drown my sorrows in chocolate brownies while my husband would go down the blue and black runs by himself.
Super fun for both of us. /sarcasm
Steve: Blah, yeah that’s no fun. So, you eventually decided that “enough is enough,” and ended up on Nerd Fitness! Was this the first time you had ever tried getting in shape?
Christina: Definitely not. I’ve kind of lost count of how many times I flirted with weight loss and getting fit. These are just some of the strategies I remember:
#1 Massive body shaming from my mom – including gems like “A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips” and “If you don’t lose weight before your wedding, you will always look back at your photos and feel terrible for how bad you look.”
#2 The single teacher income diet – I lost 50 lbs in six months only to gain it back when I could afford food again.
#3 Weight Watchers – I was used to body shaming from my mom, I figured, “Why not let strangers do it too?” Turns out this was less than ideal for my self esteem. I know WW works for some, but my particular experience wasn’t great.
#4 Various exercise VHS tapes from the 80s and 90s – My faves included Tony Little and It Figures with Charlene Prickett, because nothing motivates you like a built dude with a ponytail, or 80s leotards coupled with bad music!
#5 Beachbody shakes – I found the shakes to be excellent when mixed with a half pot of coffee, two tbsp of peanut butter, and a cup of half and half. No idea why I didn’t lose weight, hahaha.
#6 Cutting calories without tracking or learning – For some reason, I believed that even though I had no idea how much I was eating regularly, I could guess my way through calorie restriction. This did not work.
#7 Complaining – “Why am I so fat? Why can’t I lose weight? There must be something wrong with my metabolism. Why is exercise so difficult?”
#8 Wishing the fat away – “Maybe if I skip dinner I’ll lose a pound or two. Maybe if I skip dessert I will lose weight. If only a magical weight loss fairy existed…”
Steve: Thanks for sharing your struggles honestly with me (and now the world!). I’m curious: what made you decide to take the plunge and jump on board with Nerd Fitness and our coaching program?
Christina: Prior to NF Coaching, I mentioned to my husband I needed help.
After all of my failed attempts above, I knew I couldn’t do this on my own and wanted guidance.
I live in Colorado, land of the uber-fit, but I felt like none of the options available really meshed what I needed. I didn’t enjoy exercise and just couldn’t relate to fitness junkies.
The NF Coaching announcement came at a perfect time, and I was really pleased to see that the program wasn’t just personalized workouts, but also that my coach Jim would help me with my nutrition and mindset.
And you saw how I used to eat – I definitely needed help in that area!
Steve: Amen. We all know we need to exercise more and eat less, it’s actually DOING it consistently that’s challenging. So take me through your training schedule with Jim:
Christina: I told Jim about the equipment I had available (or lack thereof) and my goals, and my schedule, so he built a program that fit into that exact situation.
We did a lot of body weight to start with, no gym for me!
These days, I do a combination of bodyweight training (planks and wall sits), adjustable weights (overhead press, side rows), and anything Jim gives me that has to do with my pull-up bar and gymnastic rings (chin-ups, pull-ups, ring holds, etc.)
Steve: Let’s talk nutrition: What’s been your nutritional strategy?
Christina: Definitely more of an “if it fits your macros” (IIFYM) type of deal – I try to shoot for 130g of protein and under 80g for carbs and fat. I married an Italian who loves to cook; we quickly realized totally cutting pasta out of our lives wasn’t going to work.
So Jim helped me to be smarter about everything.
We time our big Italian meals on days we do a lot of physical activity, instead of every day which was always my problem in the past.
I also had to cut back my cheese addiction, which was super sad. It’s amazing how consuming 500+ calories of cheese a day can impact your diet. Again, who knew?
Steve: Yes! I too follow a “mental model” macros-type diet. What’s a typical day like for you NOW, after the changes?
Christina: SO Different!
Up between 5AM and 6AM, drink one cup of coffee with turmeric, cinnamon, and pepper, eat a small breakfast (normally an egg and some protein with one slice of really skinny bread).
I then do some work and housework, bodyweight training around 10am, drink a protein shake, drag husband out for a walk, then eat lunch around 12:30pm (lots of protein). We run our own company – a raw pet food company – and it keeps us both plenty busy
I then do more work, tutor in the afternoon, sometimes volunteer at a feral cat colony, and then dinner (protein and veggies), relax, and bed.
Much more structure in my life, and amazingly, I get things done. Who knew? 😉
Steve: What is your internal self talk like compared to 2 years ago?
Christina: There’s a lot less internal arguing about exercise or eating.
I’ll admit the first six months were miserable and really challenging. I cried my way through every workout – they were hard mentally, physically, and emotionally. This is what made it worse –  I would tell myself “I deserve to suffer, because I let myself go.”
I then realized that this self-talk was unproductive, and through conversations with Jim, my husband, and myself, I changed my attitude about the whole thing.
I realized that exercise is something I’m lucky to be able to do.
It’s something that feels good and makes me feel good. My husband knows when I haven’t exercised yet for the day because my mood is lousy!
Thanks to these two years, I can now snowboard, I can hike, I can walk through downtown Boulder without open-mouth breathing.
I can do things I want to do, even if they’re hard, without beating myself up.
Just last month, we hiked up Mt. Sanitas in the rain, soaked to the bone! This would have never happened before. 3.1 miles, 1300 feet of elevation gain, and *wet* – but I did it!
And enjoyed myself! It was pretty awesome. 🙂
Steve: What was the toughest or most important change you made?
Christina: After asking my husband for his opinion, apparently the toughest change was cutting back on cheese! And I quote, “You complained the *most* about that.”
That was done fairly early on, maybe six months into working with Jim, so it’s difficult for me to remember how tough that was. Apparently it had an impact on my husband, though! 😉
Steve: Talk to me about your progress along the way. How have you measured your progress and what has helped?
Christina: I log all of my food daily and love the structure and awareness it brings to my life.
I can plan my day out based on what’s for dinner without feeling like I’m losing out on food. With food logging, it’s pretty easy to figure out what doesn’t agree with me, and I’ve gotten a lot better with portion control when it comes to items I want to taste but don’t want to gorge on (cake, gelato, etc.)
A bite or two of something is not going to ruin my day, but if I eat the whole thing, I know I’ll feel sick to my stomach and be useless the rest of the day.
As for tracking progress, I actually weigh myself daily. Weighing in used to be a source of shame; now it’s just a data point, and I can see how what I ate the day before affects me (I’m looking at you, salt).
I also take progress photos, track my body fat percentage, and track other measurements too.
Steve: Okay, so be honest: was NF Coaching worth the investment for you? Why stay 2 years even after having success early on?
Christina: Simple. I’ve lost weight in the past, and I knew that it would just come right back if I didn’t really change my ways. In working with Jim, I lost 40 pounds fairly quickly once the diet changed and exercise was done on a fairly regular basis.
However, it was really important to me that the changes stuck.
Jim knows exactly how to push things and how to tweak behaviors in order to get results. He’s had great ideas around food, and his experience with a wide variety of people has given him some great insight into how people work.
I get exactly the level of support I need, and Jim can totally read between the lines of what I say and what I really mean. There’s always a goal in mind, and I work well with that type of motivation. These are our current goals:
Climb a 14er (mountain) – climbing a mountain of at least 14K feet with 3K feet of elevation gain
Do a muscle-up
Do a handstand
Steve: LOVE IT. And you are working with the best coach ever when it comes to handstands – Jim wrote our Beginner’s Guide to Handstands, led our Handstand Course, AND has helped other clients get their first handstands too.
Steve: Do you have any nerdy passions or pursuits?
Christina: I cosplay, play the Dresden Files tabletop rpg with a group of friends across three time zones, read a lot of comic books, and play video games in a casual way.
Steve: Nerd credentials check out – you’re in the right place!
I want to ask you one final question: There are TONS of Nerd Fitness readers right now who are at your “Day 1” (or heavier). Do you have any words of advice for those folks?
Christina: Change is so personal. You need to look within yourself and ask if you’re happy with where you are physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Then you have to ask yourself if you’re okay with the way your life is currently “hard,” and if you’re willing to try a different kind of “hard” in order to get some different results.
My “hard” before was heavy breathing, the possibility of medication for various health issues, clothing not fitting correctly, feeling embarrassed going out in public, and not being able to participate in activities with my husband.
Now my “hard” is more saying no to free food because I KNOW it’s not really free, trying to get in one more rep with a little more weight, and coming to grips with what my body and can’t do, despite how much I exercise.
Steve: Thanks so much for sharing Christina! Jim shares your updates with our team and I feel like a proud parent (that’s not weird, right? cool) watching you continue to transform every month!
When we meet in person we can practice our handstands! I’ll make sure to bring Jim too.
The 6 Keys to Christina’s Fantastic Transformation
As I’ve been following Christina’s story over the past two years, I can think of six specific things she did differently than most people who struggle and never succeed:
#1 CHRISTINA KEPT TRYING AND FAILING DIFFERENTLY
Weight Watchers, Beachbody, calorie restriction, negative self talk, dieting…Christina tried it all. Most people struggle with weight loss and assume that they’re broken. Christina eventually realized that she just hadn’t found the path that worked for her yet.
So she kept searching.
When she started working with us at Nerd Fitness, she went the route that sounded the most exciting to her: hiking with her husband, snowboarding, bodyweight training, and no gym membership.
There’s no ONE way to get in shape, and Christina found the perfect plan for her – the one she would actually STICK with.
#2 CHRISTINA COMMITTED TO HERSELF & INVESTED IN HERSELF
She had tried to get in shape before. Many times.
And failed. Many times.
Most people blindly chase the next fad or making half-hearted attempts to get in shape. They also give up at the first sign of adversity and can’t get any changes to stick.
Even worse? Sticking with a “healthy” plan for months only to discover that it doesn’t actually generate results (I see you low fat food, starvation, running endlessly on a treadmill).
Christina recognized that years of these strategies hadn’t resulted in permanent progress, so a different approach was needed.
She knew she couldn’t do this alone, so she hired a coach who knows her better than she knows herself.
Through her ups and downs, highs and lows, successes and struggles, her coach is there to set the right pace for her at that point in her life. When life changes, so does her workout and nutrition programming.
Certain things are worth investing in, and Christina decided that she was worth it.
#3 CHRISTINA DIDN’T LET SPEEDBUMPS BECOME ROADBLOCKS
Along the way, Christina struggled: this getting in shape stuff isn’t easy! One missed workout becomes two, which becomes six months off in the blink of an eye.
But she relied on her husband, her coach, and her knowledge that her coach had set her up to succeed, and all she had to do was stick to the plan.
Even after Christina managed to successfully build powerful habits and momentum, she was diagnosed with some serious health challenges: severe osteoarthritis in her left hip and moderate to severe osteoarthritis in her right hip.
Most people understandably fall apart when hit with a setback like this. They say “oh what the hell.” If their bodies are failing them, might as well eat junk food and stop exercising because, “What’s the point?”
Christina went the other way.
She said, “I am not my x-ray.”
While her diagnosis has put a damper on running, lunges, and squats, she worked with a physical therapist, doctor, and her coach to come up with other options to keep her physically active.
Because of her attitude change, Christina was able to turn these mountains into molehills and step over them.
And now she’s focused on climbing ACTUAL mountains.
#4 CHRISTINA STOPPED WISHING AND STARTED DOING
Why do we beat ourselves up when we run out of willpower? Why do we get mad at ourselves for not being “motivated enough”? Why do we rely on hope and wishful thinking when it comes to getting healthy?
Because we think successful people have more of this stuff than we do, and that’s why they’ve lost weight.
We then lament the fact that we’re not like them and thus are doomed.
Reality paints a much different picture: people who have successfully lost weight and kept it off stopped chasing motivation. They recognized that willpower was limited and motivation would abandon them when life got tough. So instead, they stopped hoping and wishing and instead start building systems:
They have somebody they can be accountable to.
They study past failures and change their approach.
They get started and course correct along the way.
They structure their environment and day so that willpower isn’t needed.
This is exactly what Christina did. She stopped expecting things to be different and took the future into her own hands.
She knew she couldn’t do this alone, so she enlisted help, she got her husband’s support, and she GOT TO WORK.
#5 CHRISTINA TRACKED THE PROBLEM TO CRACK THE PROBLEM
Here’s my opinion as to why Christina succeeded: She started tracking her food daily. She could then share this food log with her coach who could make small changes and suggestions that didn’t overwhelm her.
Christina also weighed herself daily, not due to OCD neurosis, but instead as a scientist collecting data points and adjusting her progress!
She’s now educated with how many calories she can eat each day, the makeup of everything she eats, and she can make much more educated and informed decisions guilt free with each meal.
By tracking her food and her macros and analyzing her relationship with food, she can still eat home-cooked Italian food regularly without screwing up her nutrition goals. She MAKES through timing and tracking rather than hoping it works out.
In addition to these successes, through tracking she was able to discover two areas that were holding her back: she quit drinking and cut back significantly on high calorie cheese consumption.
These changes might not have happened had she not been tracking so diligently!
#6 CHRISTINA FINDS NEW DRAGONS TO SLAY
Her journey began with a weight loss goal: “I want to lose weight and feel better about myself.” And she lost 40 pounds very quickly on her journey.
This is where the big change happened:
Instead of saying “all done!” like se would have in the past, she instead worked with her coach to ask, “What am I capable of now that I’ve done all this hard work? Maybe I can work towards pull ups and get better at hiking!”
“Okay I got pull-ups, now what do I want to do?”
She and Jim consistently updated her goals and missions so she always had a new target. She wants to climb a mountain. She wants to do a handstand and a muscle-up. And every day her workouts and her nutrition are set up in a way for her to get closer to those goals!
And if she ever reaches these goals? Perfect. She’ll get new ones!
There’s always another dragon to slay…
How will Your Next Attempt Be Different? Be like Christina!
Here’s how Christina transformed like Optimus Prime, and how you can too:
Keep at it. Christina didn’t find lasting success with Weight Watchers, Beachbody, or calorie restriction. Although those programs work for some people, they didn’t work for her. Nerd Fitness spoke her language, so she followed the process.
Track the problem, crack the problem. The most successful people that have lost weight and kept it off all track their progress and adherence in some way. Start by writing down what you eat for the next few days, calculate the calories, and educate yourself! See how your photos change, and make adjustments based on your data. Hope + action = win.
Invest in yourself, get help where you can. A lot of people think hiring a coach is a sign of weakness. Christina realized this is the wrong attitude, and has used her coach to change her life. Invest your time or your money into taking this fitness stuff seriously and get help or get educated. It’s your life we’re talking about here!
Always have another dragon to slay. Christina completely changed from “I want to lose some weight” to “What am I capable of? I want to do a handstand and climb a freakin mountain!” This is the key to sustained weight loss.
Train in the way that works for you. Christina does bodyweight exercises, hikes, and goes snowboarding with her husband. There’s no gym in sight! There are a million ways to get in shape, so pick the ones that fit your goals and make you happy!
This should get you started, regardless of whether or not you join any of the programs at Nerd Fitness!
How Christina Lost 50 pounds, 31 Total Inches, and Did Her First Pull-up
I love inspiring success stories.
I especially love sharing stories from real people with busy lives who have struggled in the same way most of us struggle:
Multiple failed attempts at weight loss.
Mental baggage and challenges to overcome.
Negative self talk.
Yo-yo dieting.
Christina, a years-long member of the Nerd Fitness community, is somebody who has gained and lost the same weight more times than she can count. She grew up with negative self-talk, chased lose-weight-quick strategies, and struggled to love herself through the ups and downs.
After her husband stumbled across Nerd Fitness (smart fella), he told her to consider joining our community, and I’m so thankful she did!
Two years ago, we launched a beta version of our super fun 1-on-1 Online Coaching Program, and Christina was one of our guinea pigs that signed up!
In those two years, she has transformed inside and out, and I’m so excited to share her story today. In these two years, she has had this great level of success without access to a gym without crazy dietary restrictions or calorie starvation, and finally loves herself in the way she deserves to be loved!
Although I’m very proud of the fact that Christina has invested in herself through coaching program month after month, I know you’ll learn a lot from her story.
At the end, I’ll share with you EXACTLY how to make your changes today. No more negative self-talk, no more reliance on motivation or willpower, but a focus on systems and progress and accountability!
Let’s see how Christina transformed…
How Christina lost 50 pounds and finally started loving herself
Steve: Hey Christina! Can you take us through a typical day before you decided to level up your life?
Christina: This is embarrassing to admit, but here’s a typical day when my husband would travel for work, which was about 2 weeks of every month:
Wake up, drink coffee, eat some string cheese, check emails, eat more cheese, drink more coffee, check more emails, watch a show or two on streaming media, check more emails, eat more cheese, switch to Diet Coke, grab some Taco Bell, tutor kids for a few hours, grab a beer or two with friends, eat pizza or some kind of horrible take-out, watch more TV until midnight or so, then head to sleep.
Steve: Taco Bell, pizza, beers, cheese on cheese on cheese, tons of take-out…sounds like a typical diet for many people struggling to lose weight.
Was there a specific moment when you decided to make a change?
Christina: It was more of a bunch of small things:
My blood pressure was kind of high.
My cholesterol was creeping up.
I struggled with being out of breath with the simplest of tasks.
Walking anywhere in Boulder for long periods of time meant open-mouth breathing. So embarrassing 🙁
Oh, and learning to snowboard was nearly impossible. There were days we’d drive the two hours to the mountains, I’d go down the bunny hill once, and be done for the day – I didn’t have the physical or mental stamina to try again.
I’d then sit in the lodge and drown my sorrows in chocolate brownies while my husband would go down the blue and black runs by himself.
Super fun for both of us. /sarcasm
Steve: Blah, yeah that’s no fun. So, you eventually decided that “enough is enough,” and ended up on Nerd Fitness! Was this the first time you had ever tried getting in shape?
Christina: Definitely not. I’ve kind of lost count of how many times I flirted with weight loss and getting fit. These are just some of the strategies I remember:
#1 Massive body shaming from my mom – including gems like “A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips” and “If you don’t lose weight before your wedding, you will always look back at your photos and feel terrible for how bad you look.”
#2 The single teacher income diet – I lost 50 lbs in six months only to gain it back when I could afford food again.
#3 Weight Watchers – I was used to body shaming from my mom, I figured, “Why not let strangers do it too?” Turns out this was less than ideal for my self esteem. I know WW works for some, but my particular experience wasn’t great.
#4 Various exercise VHS tapes from the 80s and 90s – My faves included Tony Little and It Figures with Charlene Prickett, because nothing motivates you like a built dude with a ponytail, or 80s leotards coupled with bad music!
#5 Beachbody shakes – I found the shakes to be excellent when mixed with a half pot of coffee, two tbsp of peanut butter, and a cup of half and half. No idea why I didn’t lose weight, hahaha.
#6 Cutting calories without tracking or learning – For some reason, I believed that even though I had no idea how much I was eating regularly, I could guess my way through calorie restriction. This did not work.
#7 Complaining – “Why am I so fat? Why can’t I lose weight? There must be something wrong with my metabolism. Why is exercise so difficult?”
#8 Wishing the fat away – “Maybe if I skip dinner I’ll lose a pound or two. Maybe if I skip dessert I will lose weight. If only a magical weight loss fairy existed…”
Steve: Thanks for sharing your struggles honestly with me (and now the world!). I’m curious: what made you decide to take the plunge and jump on board with Nerd Fitness and our coaching program?
Christina: Prior to NF Coaching, I mentioned to my husband I needed help.
After all of my failed attempts above, I knew I couldn’t do this on my own and wanted guidance.
I live in Colorado, land of the uber-fit, but I felt like none of the options available really meshed what I needed. I didn’t enjoy exercise and just couldn’t relate to fitness junkies.
The NF Coaching announcement came at a perfect time, and I was really pleased to see that the program wasn’t just personalized workouts, but also that my coach Jim would help me with my nutrition and mindset.
And you saw how I used to eat – I definitely needed help in that area!
Steve: Amen. We all know we need to exercise more and eat less, it’s actually DOING it consistently that’s challenging. So take me through your training schedule with Jim:
Christina: I told Jim about the equipment I had available (or lack thereof) and my goals, and my schedule, so he built a program that fit into that exact situation.
We did a lot of body weight to start with, no gym for me!
These days, I do a combination of bodyweight training (planks and wall sits), adjustable weights (overhead press, side rows), and anything Jim gives me that has to do with my pull-up bar and gymnastic rings (chin-ups, pull-ups, ring holds, etc.)
Steve: Let’s talk nutrition: What’s been your nutritional strategy?
Christina: Definitely more of an “if it fits your macros” (IIFYM) type of deal – I try to shoot for 130g of protein and under 80g for carbs and fat. I married an Italian who loves to cook; we quickly realized totally cutting pasta out of our lives wasn’t going to work.
So Jim helped me to be smarter about everything.
We time our big Italian meals on days we do a lot of physical activity, instead of every day which was always my problem in the past.
I also had to cut back my cheese addiction, which was super sad. It’s amazing how consuming 500+ calories of cheese a day can impact your diet. Again, who knew?
Steve: Yes! I too follow a “mental model” macros-type diet. What’s a typical day like for you NOW, after the changes?
Christina: SO Different!
Up between 5AM and 6AM, drink one cup of coffee with turmeric, cinnamon, and pepper, eat a small breakfast (normally an egg and some protein with one slice of really skinny bread).
I then do some work and housework, bodyweight training around 10am, drink a protein shake, drag husband out for a walk, then eat lunch around 12:30pm (lots of protein). We run our own company – a raw pet food company – and it keeps us both plenty busy
I then do more work, tutor in the afternoon, sometimes volunteer at a feral cat colony, and then dinner (protein and veggies), relax, and bed.
Much more structure in my life, and amazingly, I get things done. Who knew? 😉
Steve: What is your internal self talk like compared to 2 years ago?
Christina: There’s a lot less internal arguing about exercise or eating.
I’ll admit the first six months were miserable and really challenging. I cried my way through every workout – they were hard mentally, physically, and emotionally. This is what made it worse –  I would tell myself “I deserve to suffer, because I let myself go.”
I then realized that this self-talk was unproductive, and through conversations with Jim, my husband, and myself, I changed my attitude about the whole thing.
I realized that exercise is something I’m lucky to be able to do.
It’s something that feels good and makes me feel good. My husband knows when I haven’t exercised yet for the day because my mood is lousy!
Thanks to these two years, I can now snowboard, I can hike, I can walk through downtown Boulder without open-mouth breathing.
I can do things I want to do, even if they’re hard, without beating myself up.
Just last month, we hiked up Mt. Sanitas in the rain, soaked to the bone! This would have never happened before. 3.1 miles, 1300 feet of elevation gain, and *wet* – but I did it!
And enjoyed myself! It was pretty awesome. 🙂
Steve: What was the toughest or most important change you made?
Christina: After asking my husband for his opinion, apparently the toughest change was cutting back on cheese! And I quote, “You complained the *most* about that.”
That was done fairly early on, maybe six months into working with Jim, so it’s difficult for me to remember how tough that was. Apparently it had an impact on my husband, though! 😉
Steve: Talk to me about your progress along the way. How have you measured your progress and what has helped?
Christina: I log all of my food daily and love the structure and awareness it brings to my life.
I can plan my day out based on what’s for dinner without feeling like I’m losing out on food. With food logging, it’s pretty easy to figure out what doesn’t agree with me, and I’ve gotten a lot better with portion control when it comes to items I want to taste but don’t want to gorge on (cake, gelato, etc.)
A bite or two of something is not going to ruin my day, but if I eat the whole thing, I know I’ll feel sick to my stomach and be useless the rest of the day.
As for tracking progress, I actually weigh myself daily. Weighing in used to be a source of shame; now it’s just a data point, and I can see how what I ate the day before affects me (I’m looking at you, salt).
How Christina Lost 50 pounds, 31 Total Inches, and Did Her First Pull-up
I love inspiring success stories.
I especially love sharing stories from real people with busy lives who have struggled in the same way most of us struggle:
Multiple failed attempts at weight loss.
Mental baggage and challenges to overcome.
Negative self talk.
Yo-yo dieting.
Christina, a years-long member of the Nerd Fitness community, is somebody who has gained and lost the same weight more times than she can count. She grew up with negative self-talk, chased lose-weight-quick strategies, and struggled to love herself through the ups and downs.
After her husband stumbled across Nerd Fitness (smart fella), he told her to consider joining our community, and I’m so thankful she did!
Two years ago, we launched a beta version of our super fun 1-on-1 Online Coaching Program, and Christina was one of our guinea pigs that signed up!
In those two years, she has transformed inside and out, and I’m so excited to share her story today. In these two years, she has had this great level of success without access to a gym without crazy dietary restrictions or calorie starvation, and finally loves herself in the way she deserves to be loved!
Although I’m very proud of the fact that Christina has invested in herself through coaching program month after month, I know you’ll learn a lot from her story.
At the end, I’ll share with you EXACTLY how to make your changes today. No more negative self-talk, no more reliance on motivation or willpower, but a focus on systems and progress and accountability!
Let’s see how Christina transformed…
How Christina lost 50 pounds and finally started loving herself
Steve: Hey Christina! Can you take us through a typical day before you decided to level up your life?
Christina: This is embarrassing to admit, but here’s a typical day when my husband would travel for work, which was about 2 weeks of every month:
Wake up, drink coffee, eat some string cheese, check emails, eat more cheese, drink more coffee, check more emails, watch a show or two on streaming media, check more emails, eat more cheese, switch to Diet Coke, grab some Taco Bell, tutor kids for a few hours, grab a beer or two with friends, eat pizza or some kind of horrible take-out, watch more TV until midnight or so, then head to sleep.
Steve: Taco Bell, pizza, beers, cheese on cheese on cheese, tons of take-out…sounds like a typical diet for many people struggling to lose weight.
Was there a specific moment when you decided to make a change?
Christina: It was more of a bunch of small things:
My blood pressure was kind of high.
My cholesterol was creeping up.
I struggled with being out of breath with the simplest of tasks.
Walking anywhere in Boulder for long periods of time meant open-mouth breathing. So embarrassing 🙁
Oh, and learning to snowboard was nearly impossible. There were days we’d drive the two hours to the mountains, I’d go down the bunny hill once, and be done for the day – I didn’t have the physical or mental stamina to try again.
I’d then sit in the lodge and drown my sorrows in chocolate brownies while my husband would go down the blue and black runs by himself.
Super fun for both of us. /sarcasm
Steve: Blah, yeah that’s no fun. So, you eventually decided that “enough is enough,” and ended up on Nerd Fitness! Was this the first time you had ever tried getting in shape?
Christina: Definitely not. I’ve kind of lost count of how many times I flirted with weight loss and getting fit. These are just some of the strategies I remember:
#1 Massive body shaming from my mom – including gems like “A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips” and “If you don’t lose weight before your wedding, you will always look back at your photos and feel terrible for how bad you look.”
#2 The single teacher income diet – I lost 50 lbs in six months only to gain it back when I could afford food again.
#3 Weight Watchers – I was used to body shaming from my mom, I figured, “Why not let strangers do it too?” Turns out this was less than ideal for my self esteem. I know WW works for some, but my particular experience wasn’t great.
#4 Various exercise VHS tapes from the 80s and 90s – My faves included Tony Little and It Figures with Charlene Prickett, because nothing motivates you like a built dude with a ponytail, or 80s leotards coupled with bad music!
#5 Beachbody shakes – I found the shakes to be excellent when mixed with a half pot of coffee, two tbsp of peanut butter, and a cup of half and half. No idea why I didn’t lose weight, hahaha.
#6 Cutting calories without tracking or learning – For some reason, I believed that even though I had no idea how much I was eating regularly, I could guess my way through calorie restriction. This did not work.
#7 Complaining – “Why am I so fat? Why can’t I lose weight? There must be something wrong with my metabolism. Why is exercise so difficult?”
#8 Wishing the fat away – “Maybe if I skip dinner I’ll lose a pound or two. Maybe if I skip dessert I will lose weight. If only a magical weight loss fairy existed…”
Steve: Thanks for sharing your struggles honestly with me (and now the world!). I’m curious: what made you decide to take the plunge and jump on board with Nerd Fitness and our coaching program?
Christina: Prior to NF Coaching, I mentioned to my husband I needed help.
After all of my failed attempts above, I knew I couldn’t do this on my own and wanted guidance.
I live in Colorado, land of the uber-fit, but I felt like none of the options available really meshed what I needed. I didn’t enjoy exercise and just couldn’t relate to fitness junkies.
The NF Coaching announcement came at a perfect time, and I was really pleased to see that the program wasn’t just personalized workouts, but also that my coach Jim would help me with my nutrition and mindset.
And you saw how I used to eat – I definitely needed help in that area!
Steve: Amen. We all know we need to exercise more and eat less, it’s actually DOING it consistently that’s challenging. So take me through your training schedule with Jim:
Christina: I told Jim about the equipment I had available (or lack thereof) and my goals, and my schedule, so he built a program that fit into that exact situation.
We did a lot of body weight to start with, no gym for me!
These days, I do a combination of bodyweight training (planks and wall sits), adjustable weights (overhead press, side rows), and anything Jim gives me that has to do with my pull-up bar and gymnastic rings (chin-ups, pull-ups, ring holds, etc.)
Steve: Let’s talk nutrition: What’s been your nutritional strategy?
Christina: Definitely more of an “if it fits your macros” (IIFYM) type of deal – I try to shoot for 130g of protein and under 80g for carbs and fat. I married an Italian who loves to cook; we quickly realized totally cutting pasta out of our lives wasn’t going to work.
So Jim helped me to be smarter about everything.
We time our big Italian meals on days we do a lot of physical activity, instead of every day which was always my problem in the past.
I also had to cut back my cheese addiction, which was super sad. It’s amazing how consuming 500+ calories of cheese a day can impact your diet. Again, who knew?
Steve: Yes! I too follow a “mental model” macros-type diet. What’s a typical day like for you NOW, after the changes?
Christina: SO Different!
Up between 5AM and 6AM, drink one cup of coffee with turmeric, cinnamon, and pepper, eat a small breakfast (normally an egg and some protein with one slice of really skinny bread).
I then do some work and housework, bodyweight training around 10am, drink a protein shake, drag husband out for a walk, then eat lunch around 12:30pm (lots of protein). We run our own company – a raw pet food company – and it keeps us both plenty busy
I then do more work, tutor in the afternoon, sometimes volunteer at a feral cat colony, and then dinner (protein and veggies), relax, and bed.
Much more structure in my life, and amazingly, I get things done. Who knew? 😉
Steve: What is your internal self talk like compared to 2 years ago?
Christina: There’s a lot less internal arguing about exercise or eating.
I’ll admit the first six months were miserable and really challenging. I cried my way through every workout – they were hard mentally, physically, and emotionally. This is what made it worse –  I would tell myself “I deserve to suffer, because I let myself go.”
I then realized that this self-talk was unproductive, and through conversations with Jim, my husband, and myself, I changed my attitude about the whole thing.
I realized that exercise is something I’m lucky to be able to do.
It’s something that feels good and makes me feel good. My husband knows when I haven’t exercised yet for the day because my mood is lousy!
Thanks to these two years, I can now snowboard, I can hike, I can walk through downtown Boulder without open-mouth breathing.
I can do things I want to do, even if they’re hard, without beating myself up.
Just last month, we hiked up Mt. Sanitas in the rain, soaked to the bone! This would have never happened before. 3.1 miles, 1300 feet of elevation gain, and *wet* – but I did it!
And enjoyed myself! It was pretty awesome. 🙂
Steve: What was the toughest or most important change you made?
Christina: After asking my husband for his opinion, apparently the toughest change was cutting back on cheese! And I quote, “You complained the *most* about that.”
That was done fairly early on, maybe six months into working with Jim, so it’s difficult for me to remember how tough that was. Apparently it had an impact on my husband, though! 😉
Steve: Talk to me about your progress along the way. How have you measured your progress and what has helped?
Christina: I log all of my food daily and love the structure and awareness it brings to my life.
I can plan my day out based on what’s for dinner without feeling like I’m losing out on food. With food logging, it’s pretty easy to figure out what doesn’t agree with me, and I’ve gotten a lot better with portion control when it comes to items I want to taste but don’t want to gorge on (cake, gelato, etc.)
A bite or two of something is not going to ruin my day, but if I eat the whole thing, I know I’ll feel sick to my stomach and be useless the rest of the day.
As for tracking progress, I actually weigh myself daily. Weighing in used to be a source of shame; now it’s just a data point, and I can see how what I ate the day before affects me (I’m looking at you, salt).
I also take progress photos, track my body fat percentage, and track other measurements too.
Steve: Okay, so be honest: was NF Coaching worth the investment for you? Why stay 2 years even after having success early on?
Christina: Simple. I’ve lost weight in the past, and I knew that it would just come right back if I didn’t really change my ways. In working with Jim, I lost 40 pounds fairly quickly once the diet changed and exercise was done on a fairly regular basis.
However, it was really important to me that the changes stuck.
Jim knows exactly how to push things and how to tweak behaviors in order to get results. He’s had great ideas around food, and his experience with a wide variety of people has given him some great insight into how people work.
I get exactly the level of support I need, and Jim can totally read between the lines of what I say and what I really mean. There’s always a goal in mind, and I work well with that type of motivation. These are our current goals:
Climb a 14er (mountain) – climbing a mountain of at least 14K feet with 3K feet of elevation gain
Do a planche
Do a handstand
Steve: LOVE IT. And you are working with the best coach ever when it comes to handstands – Jim wrote our Beginner’s Guide to Handstands, led our Handstand Course, AND has helped other clients get their first handstands too.
Steve: Do you have any nerdy passions or pursuits?
Christina: I cosplay, play the Dresden Files tabletop rpg with a group of friends across three time zones, read a lot of comic books, and play video games in a casual way.
Steve: Nerd credentials check out – you’re in the right place!
I want to ask you one final question: There are TONS of Nerd Fitness readers right now who are at your “Day 1” (or heavier). Do you have any words of advice for those folks?
Christina: Change is so personal. You need to look within yourself and ask if you’re happy with where you are physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Then you have to ask yourself if you’re okay with the way your life is currently “hard,” and if you’re willing to try a different kind of “hard” in order to get some different results.
My “hard” before was heavy breathing, the possibility of medication for various health issues, clothing not fitting correctly, feeling embarrassed going out in public, and not being able to participate in activities with my husband.
Now my “hard” is more saying no to free food because I KNOW it’s not really free, trying to get in one more rep with a little more weight, and coming to grips with what my body and can’t do, despite how much I exercise.
Steve: Thanks so much for sharing Christina! Jim shares your updates with our team and I feel like a proud parent (that’s not weird, right? cool) watching you continue to transform every month!
When we meet in person we can practice our handstands! I’ll make sure to bring Jim too.
The 6 Keys to Christina’s Fantastic Transformation
As I’ve been following Christina’s story over the past two years, I can think of six specific things she did differently than most people who struggle and never succeed:
#1 CHRISTINA KEPT TRYING AND FAILING DIFFERENTLY
Weight Watchers, Beachbody, calorie restriction, negative self talk, dieting…Christina tried it all. Most people struggle with weight loss and assume that they’re broken. Christina eventually realized that she just hadn’t found the path that worked for her yet.
So she kept searching.
When she started working with us at Nerd Fitness, she went the route that sounded the most exciting to her: hiking with her husband, snowboarding, bodyweight training, and no gym membership.
There’s no ONE way to get in shape, and Christina found the perfect plan for her – the one she would actually STICK with.
#2 CHRISTINA COMMITTED TO HERSELF & INVESTED IN HERSELF
She had tried to get in shape before. Many times.
And failed. Many times.
Most people blindly chase the next fad or making half-hearted attempts to get in shape. They also give up at the first sign of adversity and can’t get any changes to stick.
Even worse? Sticking with a “healthy” plan for months only to discover that it doesn’t actually generate results (I see you low fat food, starvation, running endlessly on a treadmill).
Christina recognized that years of these strategies hadn’t resulted in permanent progress, so a different approach was needed.
She knew she couldn’t do this alone, so she hired a coach who knows her better than she knows herself.
Through her ups and downs, highs and lows, successes and struggles, her coach is there to set the right pace for her at that point in her life. When life changes, so does her workout and nutrition programming.
Certain things are worth investing in, and Christina decided that she was worth it.
#3 CHRISTINA DIDN’T LET SPEEDBUMPS BECOME ROADBLOCKS
Along the way, Christina struggled: this getting in shape stuff isn’t easy! One missed workout becomes two, which becomes six months off in the blink of an eye.
But she relied on her husband, her coach, and her knowledge that her coach had set her up to succeed, and all she had to do was stick to the plan.
Even after Christina managed to successfully build powerful habits and momentum, she was diagnosed with some serious health challenges: severe osteoarthritis in her left hip and moderate to severe osteoarthritis in her right hip.
Most people understandably fall apart when hit with a setback like this. They say “oh what the hell.” If their bodies are failing them, might as well eat junk food and stop exercising because, “What’s the point?”
Christina went the other way.
She said, “I am not my x-ray.”
While her diagnosis has put a damper on running, lunges, and squats, she worked with a physical therapist, doctor, and her coach to come up with other options to keep her physically active.
Because of her attitude change, Christina was able to turn these mountains into molehills and step over them.
And now she’s focused on climbing ACTUAL mountains.
