One kind of intern
(A/N): This was requested by @greenslifestuff :) It took me a week or two because I had to interact with my friends in order to get the inspiration I needed 😅 Summary: The team gets to work with a gen z teenager. Let’s see how that goes.
Warnings: Swearing and gen z humour
Wordcount: 2k
✹Masterlist✹
___________________________________
“Team, this is (Y/N) (L/N). She will be interning for the upcoming three months alongside this team. (Y/N), these are Agents Emily Prentiss, Jennifer Jareau, David Rossi, Derek Morgan and Doctor Spencer Reid and our Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia”, Hotch introduces a teenage girl to his team like this happens every day.
“Wait Hotch, we don’t get interns. What is she going to do, no offense, but getting us coffee or what?” Morgan eyes her suspiciously. She looks like any teenager grabbed from the street. A band t-shirt, a torn pair of jeans and a cup from starbucks in her hands. Nothing you would expect to even enter a federal building.
“No offence taken, Agent Morgan. I know having an ugly pickly bitch working with professionals seems weird. It’s just I have summer break and I thought it would be a good thing on my resumĂ© if I already interned in the FBI, because I just graduated and I wanted to go to the academy this fall. But if you wanna do a vibe check with me first, that’s fine by me. Whatever floats your boat.”
The room falls silent. Then out of all sudden everyone turns to Garcia, who puts her arms up in defense. “I don’t even know half the things she said, ask her yourself.”
That’s how the BAU gets their first contact with Gen Z culture and let me tell you it is a wild ride, so buckle up your seats, drink your tea up because we aren’t going to make any stops.
“(Y/N), I need you to come with me. We are going to the M.E. getting the latest reports from our last case”, Morgan tells her while passing her desk. In the blink of an eye the teenager is ready, putting her denim jacket with various pins and bits of patches on.
“Derek, can we get starbucks on the way back? The pumpkin spiced latte is back on their menu and I am on withdrawal. Pleaaaaaasseeee”, she looks at him with a pouty face. Morgan smiles. “Ok, under one condition: We both get one, take awesome pictures and send them to the group chat and then we act like we didn’t get them anything, but we actually buy them their usual.” He got the hang of it pretty fast. “Deal, Sis.”
While they are in the car on their way to the M.E. the agent groans. “Ugh, road work ahead.” “Uh yeah, I sure hope it does!” Morgan eyes her from the side. His whole demeanor says ‘old and confused’.
“What was that, kid?” But (Y/N) begins to laugh. “Don’t you know vines? Short dumb and funny clips people made?” It’s safe to say that this afternoon he learns to speak in vines, getting on Rossi’s nerves because nothing makes sense anymore.
“Ok, I heard you wanted to become a profiler. So I thought I would show you some old cases and then you try to figure out the profile. I’ll present them to you like I do to the team, alright?” JJ and (Y/N) sit in her office, safe from curious eyes. “As right as the law, Ma’am.”
“Good, this is a case from several years ago. It happened here in D.C. Three men were murdered execution style in the middle of the night in an alleyway. They were all from different backgrounds. The only connection between them was that they were evicted for some form of sexual harassment or assault. The UnSub also had a signature: A shot into their groin while the men were alive.”
Unfaced by the presented facts (Y/N) pops a piece of gum into her mouth. “It do be like that.”
“What?” “I mean, it’s obviously a woman. She experienced any harassment or assault herself. She also has excess to the files, I assume she works as a paralegal, since most of them are women. Female serial killers are extremely rare, but they are better organized. The only thing left to say is good for her getting revenge.” The blonde looks at the teenager with wide eyes.
“I-I guess but you know you can’t say anything like that to Hotch, do you?” She asks concerned. “JJ, I’m dead inside, not dumb. I know this.” But the agent shrugs. “Good. Though I really want to see his face.” “Mood.”
Penelope Garcia is the closest one to relate to Gen Z culture, since a great part of her time is spent on the internet. She happily learns about all the phrases and their meanings as well as the newest trends and hypes.
“Purp is sus, I tell you”, is heard from the lair into the hallway. Spencer and Derek look at each other with concern on their faces. “Do you think they are alright or do we have to-” “IT’S A SELF REPORT I SWEAR PENNY! YOU WORK WITH PROFILERS IN GANDALF’S NAME!” Spencer’s question is answered by that.
“Baby girl, crazy girl, are you doing good? Do you need help or something?” The older one asks warily. But it’s drowned in another screaming match. “I TOLD YOU PURP WAS THE IMPOSTER BUT YOU HAVE TO TELL THEM I VENTED WHEN I DIDN’T! I WANT ALL TIKTOKS I SENT YOU BACK!” “YOU DON’T DARE TO REVOKE MY TIKTOK PRIVILEGES!” “WATCH ME GARCIA!”
“Whoa girls, what about taking a break?” Morgan tries to diffuse the situation. “Yes, I think JJ got new pictures of Henry and Emily brought cookies this morning”, Spencer adds.
The girls, who mere seconds ago were ready to jump each other's throats, look at the other one. “You get the cookies and I go to JJ, deal?” (Y/N) asks. “Deal!” Without sparing the boys another glance they run out of the lair. Their devices are still lit up. A red figure shines into their faces. ‘AMONG US’ is written underneath it. “I think we get too old for this stuff, don’t we Reid?”
Spencer always thought he was young. Of course, his mind is older, but physically he is not that old. But the intern proves him wrong. And boy is he wrong.
“Spencer, is there anything interesting to know today?” (Y/N) takes a seat on his desk, distracting the genius from his paperwork. It is a common occurrence for her to go to him to ask for a fun fact.
“Do you wanna learn something about sloths?” His knowledge (or the writer’s) on this subject is astonishingly big.
“Spill the tea, sis.” “Did you kn- What? But I don’t have tea to spill. And I don’t wanna spill anything, I-” Reid rambles in confusion.
“It’s just a saying, Spencer. There is no deeper meaning to it then ‘Tell me everything about it’. You know, it’s mostly used for gossiping, but I don’t really like to gossip. That’s why I use it in a different context. You got it?” (Y/N) explains it to him in a soft manner, knowing her generation can be complex.
“Yeah, I think I do. Thank you for telling me. I really like the phrase. It has a nice ring. What about you spill the tea about all the phrases you know and I tell you some things from my knowledge?” “I think you got yourself a teacher, genius. But now tell me about the sloths, I love them.”
A few days later Rossi catches her doing some weird moves. “Are you having a seizure or what is your problem, youngster?” Even though he tries not to show it, David took a great liking to (Y/N), thinking of her like a granddaughter. Still, most of her actions confuse the hell out of him.
“I’m practising a dance for tiktok. My friends and I worked on a choreo we wanted to film later. Come here, I can show you.” And that’s what she does in the conference room. The teenager walks him through every move of the choreo, explaining the meaning to it and how it correlates with the song.
“And then you move your arm like that. Exactly like that! You did a great job, David! Are you sure you don’t want to come with me later? We can make you your own account and name it ‘Grandpa-on-tiktok’. You can promote your books over there and it’s a way to float with the trend!”
Seeing her this excited Rossi can’t do anything but agree to the idea. Also, he secretly liked doing the dance thing. It made him feel young again.
“(Y/N), you said you graduated this summer. But your file said you are 16?” Emily asks her one boring day filled with paperwork and countless cups of coffee. “It is what it is”, she mindlessly answers, too focused on filling out the work in front of her.
“I mean yes but how?”
“Emily, smart people exist. I know, coming from me hits different, but here we are.” Finally (Y/N) puts her pen away looking at the raven haired woman.
“What are you talking about? I can’t really follow you.” The more the intern says the more confused gets Emily.
She sighs. “I don’t want to leave you on read here. I kind of am smart somehow. Apparently I was smart enough to skip a grade or two. But it’s no biggie. Many peeps do this, so I don’t sweat it.”
“Even though I feel like you are selling yourself short here, I know you are an incredibly intelligent person. Someday you will be an awesome profiler and any team will be lucky to have you. I really hope we will be the lucky team. But I’m still not sure if this is what I should say in this context.”
“Emily, you are goals. This fam is squad goals. I really hope to be a part of this someday”, (Y/N) admits. “I’m sure Hotch will do his best to get you on the team, you became a great part of it. I can’t imagine a future without you.”
Sadly Prentiss has to get used to a time without the team’s beloved intern. On her last day (Y/N) knocks at Hotch’s door.
“Hey, I wanted to say thank you. The time with you and all the others was amazing and I learned so many useful things for not only the academy but also for my daily life. I really had a glow-up here”, she says after coming in.
Hotch motions towards the chairs in front of his desk. “Take a seat, (Y/N). I got something for you. See it as a compensation for not getting paid for your internship. You really did great work and a better job than some agents, who are doing theirs for many years already but don’t know half the stuff you do. You are a valuable member to the team.”
“Wait, you speak in presence tense. I leave you all this afternoon, you know that, do you?” But the Unit Chief only gestures to a white envelope on his desk. Quickly the teenager takes it and reads it.
“Are you serious Hotchner? Because I will cry you a river if you joke”, she threatens him.
“I’m dead serious, (Y/N). Even though half of your talks are difficult to understand, the other half is twice as useful and important. Additionally to that, you are like a fresh breath of air that the team needed. That’s why a place here will be available for you as soon as you graduate from the academy. I trust you that you will pass with flying colors, I had to promise that to Strauss.”
“Of course, Hotch. I swear on my Animal Crossing Island that I will do my best and more. Thank you so much”, she leaps into his arms.
The others watch the interaction from the bullpen, pretending to not get teary eyed. Their favorite Gen Z Kid will come back to them after all.

🆕 ask juliet anything!! | juliet’s masterlist
word count: 1.3k
warning(s): none!!
note: words in bold are spoken in english!!
set in early 2017
summary: in which juliet bumps into someone very, very familiar and dear to her heart.
Tumblr media
Juliet nods her head along to the music playing from her earphones as she peruses the snack aisle in the supermarket. Her classes ended a bit earlier today, giving her more time before she has to be at the company for training. What better way to spend that time than getting snacks to share with the others during their breaks?
Definitely chocolate, she thinks as she grabs a bar from one of the shelves, pausing for a few seconds before grabbing two more. Who am I kidding? We’ll inhale it within thirty seconds if I get just one. What if I also got chips? Or is that too much if we’re going to get tteokbokki after training?
Sighing, Juliet looks wistfully at the assortment of snacks before lowering her head and speed-walking through the aisle. If I can’t see it, I won’t be tempted.
Stopping by the dairy section, she reaches for a bottle of banana milk after much deliberation between it and the strawberry milk. This specific brand of flavoured milk was the first thing she had after landing in South Korea, and since then she’d always try to have either before practice or evaluations as a good luck charm whenever possible.
Juliet is about to head to the cashier when she spies a boy around her age standing only a few feet away from her looking at the selection of bottled tea. Her heart skips a beat when she catches the side profile of the boy. It can’t be him... can it? But he looks so awfully similar to...
Before she can be sure, the boy makes his choice and disappears behind the aisle she was just in. Juliet finds herself following after him. She wanted—no, needed—to confirm she hadn’t been seeing things, that he is indeed who she thinks he is. It’s been so long since she’s seen him, she can’t just leave without being sure.
Doing her best to act natural, she walks back to the snack aisle and grabs a bag of spicy chips, pretending to read the label when she’s really trying to get a better look at the boy out of the corner of her eye. Unfortunately, the boy isn’t near enough for her to be sure, and before Juliet can inch closer to him, he leaves the aisle.
Damn it, I knew I should’ve put on my glasses.
Hastily shoving the bag of chips back into its original place, Juliet hurries to catch up with him, carefully peeking behind the shelves to see which section he went into.
Wait... do I look suspicious right now? What if someone’s watching me through the CCTV and thinks I’m trying to steal something? The thought causes her to shudder, hoping she’ll get her answer as quickly as possible so she won’t have to act like this anymore.
Passing through the aisles, Juliet finally finds the boy looking at the instant ramen before casually slipping in and grabbing a random one from the shelf, once again watching him using her peripheral vision. Is this weird? This is so weird. Man, if he’s not who I think he is, I would’ve done all this for nothing... Fuck! He’s looking this way! Don’t look at him, don’t look at him, don’t look at him... 1790mg of Sodium... interesting... what riveting information...
So deep in thought, Juliet doesn’t realises that he’s approaching her until she feels him trying to squeeze past her in the narrow corridor in an effort to leave. Jumping in surprise from the sudden contact, the bowl of ramen slips from Juliet’s hold and falls to the ground with a clatter.
“Sorry!” they both squeak in unison, the boy crouching down to pick up the ramen before she can do so herself. When he looks up to hand it back to her, they freeze upon getting a good look at the other’s face, eyes widening with realisation.
“Felix?”
“Juliet?”
Huge smiles slowly spread across their faces after getting over the initial shock before they pull each other in a hug.
“It’s so good to see you!” Juliet squeals. “What are you doing here?”
“I live here now!” Felix explains once they separate, laughing when her eyes widen comically at his revelation.
“Shut the front door. Really?”
“Yeah! I auditioned for JYP a while ago and got accepted, and they told me to move here immediately. I wanted to contact you, but I think you changed your phone number...”
“Oh, I did,” Juliet says sheepishly. “But I’m glad we ran into each other here! Well, not really ran into... I was kinda following you around the store like a creep because I was trying to make sure if you were really... you.”
Felix giggles. “Were you? I didn’t notice. I just thought you were another student trying to buy snacks after school.”
“I mean... that part’s true,” Juliet says with a grin as they walk back to the cashier to pay. “But anyways, it’s so great that you’re with JYP now! Are you doing okay with settling in and stuff?”
He nods slowly. “I think so, I’m still adjusting to the culture shock and practising my Korean, but the boys there are helping me a lot! One of them is also from Sydney, can you believe it?”
“You’ll have to introduce us sometime then,” she says as she hands the cashier some money while he scans her items. “Plus, you found me now! So if you need anything or just someone to talk to, you can reach me! You have a Korean number now, right?”
He nods again, rummaging for his wallet and phone in his bag before handing the latter to Juliet so she can enter her number in while he pays. The two leave the supermarket with a quick “thank you!” to the cashier as she returns his phone.
“‘Aussie sister’?” Felix laughs, reading the contact name she saved for herself.
“Yeah! You can change it if you want, or if you already met another Aussie sister at JYP,” she pouts. “In that case, I can be ‘Aussie sister #2’ or ‘Julie’ or whatever.”
“Nah, I don’t know any other Aussies here other than you and the boy I mentioned earlier. His name’s Chan, by the way! Where are you going now? To SM?”
Juliet smiles melancholically. “I’m not with SM anymore, Lix,” she says softly, watching his eyebrows crease with worry. “I’m with another company now called KQ. It’s much smaller compared to SM, but I’m happy there and they treat me well, so don’t worry.”
“Well, if you’re happy, then it’s all that matters!” Felix says brightly. “I have to go back to JYP too, but we’ll meet up more now that I’m here, right?” he adds the last part hopefully.
“Definitely! When we have time, I’ll take you to all my favourite food places in this area,” Juliet promises.
Felix beams. “I can’t wait! Take care, okay? And good luck with training.”
“You too. Again, it’s really, really nice seeing you again.”
“Likewise... so, this is goodbye?” he asks when they come to a intersection, being able to tell that Juliet has to go the other route from the direction her feet are pointing at.
“Yeah... but only for now! Remember to text me later so I’ll have your number!”
Felix nods. “I will. I’ll see you around?”
“You bet. I still have so much to tell you,” Juliet tells him before they hesitantly go their separate ways, knowing they both have to be at their companies soon but still wanting to catch up more.
It doesn’t take long for her to turn around to watch Felix’s retreating figure, though she immediately bursts into laughter when he does the same, and the two friends give each other one last exaggerated wave before disappearing into the crowds of people.
Despite the freezing temperature, Juliet feels warm and fuzzy on the inside, overjoyed from seeing her childhood friend for the first time in years while also knowing that there will be more to come now that Felix also lives in Seoul.
Things really are starting to look up.
She walks into KQ’s building with a spring in her step, arms clutching her banana milk and chocolate securely when her phone chimes from a notification. Clumsily fumbling with her uniform skirt’s pocket, Juliet fishes out her phone, instantly grinning at the message that pops up on the lockscreen.
[Unknown Number] [16:03] your aussie bro right here!!! 🐹 fighting today!!!!!!

a/n: i can’t believe it took me this long to write a scenario with felix but here it is đŸ„șđŸ„ș bc they were both in a hurry, they didn’t exactly have time for an emotional reunion but rest assured they were very, very happy to see each other :3 especially for juliet, she was still adjusting to everything and everyone at kq, so when felix came into her life again it made her so happy đŸ„ș💕

Green eyed Monster ~ PJM [Request]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
➳➳➳Word Count: 3K
➳➳➳Genre: Angst, fluff
➳➳➳Pairing: Park Jimin x Reader
➳➳➳A/N: I adore Halsey so much, she’s one of my inspirations lmao
.Also this is so bad because I have writers block, it’s really starting to make me struggle right now but I am trying so Im sorry. If this isn’t what you wanted let me know and I will try again.
Tumblr media
You'd never really experienced jealously until now at this moment, your body was boiling with jealously just from watching Jimin with her, but you knew there was nothing to worry about and he would never do anything to hurt you intentionally but it didn't stop your mind from racing all over the place and your brain jumping to from conclusion to conclusion without stopping to think logically. Jimin loved you and you loved Jimin that should be the only thing that mattered but the little green-eyed monster sitting on your shoulder didn't see it that way. It had all started because you wanted to surprise him while he was out here in America, thinking it would be a nice surprise but once you arrived you saw he had his mind on something else,
Tumblr media
You were exhausted from work that day, you were working overtime to try and save up tickets to go and visit your boyfriend in America. Jimin had flown over for a series of concerts and you were left at home to work and look after your shared apartment but it didn't stop you from wanting to fly out and see him.
"Another day another dollar." You grumbled shoving the tip money you'd gotten that night into a glass jar you kept under your bed, you looked over at the clock on the wall and you knew you had an hour before your call with Jimin meaning you could go and have a shower so he wouldn't know you'd only just gotten in from work. It was a secret that you were going to fly out a see him, Taehyung had told you he would help you with the plane ticket if you wanted but you decided it was better for you to pay because you hated when other people paid for things for you. It had been that way since you started dancing Jimin, you made it clear you didn't want him to pay for everything because you didn't want him to think you were just using him for the money which he didn't think anyway, but he respected that was how you felt about the situation.
Tumblr media
"Hi baby," You sang in the phone expecting the caller to be Jimin but when you heard Taehyung laughing you felt your heart sink a little, not that you didn't love talking to Tae but you were missing your boyfriend a lot.
"Hello to you too." He chuckled and you smiled softly to yourself trying to stay positive about why Jimin was late for his call, he was probably just busy with practice or something.
"Sorry, I thought you were Jimin." You sounded defeated and Taehyung knew how hard you were trying to stay happy for Jimin it was always the same when he went away. You would be happy for him because you knew how much everything meant to Jimin so you would never do anything to come in between him and his dream you just hated the distance the most when it came down to it.
"How much do you have?" He questioned wanting to know if there was anything he could do to help you out,
"I have enough for a taxi from here to the airport." You grumbled looking over at the money jars you'd taken out to count while you waited for Jimin to call you.
"Let me help you, by this rate you'll be able to see him in three tours time." You knew he was right but you didn't feel good taking money from him,
"Think of it as a loan, pay me back when you earn the money." You hummed and he chuckled getting excited to see you.
"Where is he anyway?" You asked looking at the clock it was one am for you in Korea which meant it was around 9 am for Jimin in Las Vegas, they were getting ready to prepare for the performance at the Billboard Music Awards.
"He's trying to teach Halsey the dance with Namjoon, the dance was changed when we sent it over to her." You hummed and smiled, you'd loved Halsey's music for ages and you were glad they were finally working with someone who wasn't just going to use them for their fame.
"Is she nice?" You asked getting into bed and laying down, Taehyung began telling you about all the time they'd been spending with her for the last two days and you smiled fondly.
"I'm glad you're enjoying yourself Tae," You whispered finally feeling the effects of the long day you'd had,
"I'll get your ticket ready for tomorrow your time, late as possible okay?" You hummed and he smiled to himself knowing how much it was going to mean to Jimin that you were willing to fly out and see him.
"Goodnight Y/n," Tae whispered hanging up the phone and going to find you a plane ticket that was accessible for you at the earliest convenience.
Tumblr media
When you arrived he was busy and you understood that it was his job to be busy but it didn't make it any easier to see him all over Halsey, watching them dancing and laughing together as though you weren't in the room. No one but the boys and management knew you were together, it was supposed to be kept a secret from everyone because it was easier to control what got out about the relationship that way.
"Y/n come here," Namjoon called noticing that you were staring at Jimin and Halsey from across the room, you slowly made your way over to the leader and kept your eyes trained at the ground.
"You're supposed to be keeping a low profile." He mumbled to you and you stared up at him, by that he meant stop staring at Jimin all the time you were going to make it obvious. There were cameras everywhere documenting the boys time with her for a series Halsey was doing for her fans.
"Sorry, it's just a little hard when he's all over her-"
"He's just doing his job, leave it." He finished for you before you could even get your words out, you nodded and walked away from him going back to the corner of the room you were sitting in. Taehyung came over to join you with a bottle of water and some snacks for you but you weren't hungry, you were too busy looking at Halsey and comparing her to yourself in every way you could and in your mind she was perfect in every way you weren't. Even dressed in sweatpants and a hoodie she looked amazing,
"I'm not hungry." You mumbled taking the water and slowly drinking from the bottle but keeping your eyes on them. His hands were lingering on her skin and ou felt yours boil,
"Has he introduced you yet?" Taehyung asked noticing where your eyes were going and you shook your head,
"He said he would last night but I know he's busy." You whispered trying not to come across as the jealous girlfriend. You weren't normally jealous, he was always surrounded by beautiful women but this felt different to you for some reason.
"Jimin!" Tae yelled beckoning him over, Halsey followed him and smiled at you bringing you into a tight hug and smiling.
"I'm Halsey,"
"I'm Y/n I'm-"
"Taehyung's best friend." Jimin rushed out, you and Taehyung both stared at Jimin and he was smiling at Halsey who was smiling back at you.
"Well it's nice to meet you Y/n best friend of Taehyung," You nodded and looked at her as she walked away, Jimin stayed behind for a couple of seconds.
"I know how to introduce myself Jimin, I'm just a friend to everyone else who doesn't know about us." He stared at you, he felt guilty for it coming across the way he did but he panicked not knowing if you were going to tell her or not.
"Plus I thought I was your best friend?" You giggled poking his cheeks but instead of blushing like he normally would at the action he moved away from your touch and looked around to make sure no one had noticed. You felt your heartbreak a little when he pushed your hand away and went back over to the dance floor, you tried to push it down that he was just a little nervous about the performance but then you saw them together again. Holding eye contact and smiling to each other, laughing at something you hadn't heard.
"He's just stressed about the stage." Taehyung tried to tell you but you knew he wasn't, you'd see Jimin nervous about something before and this wasn't Jimin nervous. This was Jimin flirting with someone else and you could feel your heart shattering whenever you heard them laughing at something,
"You should go and practise, I don't want to hold you all back." You whispered to Taehyung who slowly left you alone in the corner of the room to go to his position on the dance floor and continued to dance along with the boys.
Tumblr media
You'd left the practise early to go back to the hotel room, you were tired from the plane ride and wanted to sleep a little before the big stage performance they would be putting on later. The door to your hotel room banged opened and Jimin was standing there with a giant smile on his face, you hadn't seen him smile that much in so long and it filled you with an immense amount of happiness that you jumped up from the bed to find out what he was so happy about.
"What's put you in such a good mood?" You giggled as he pulled you into his arms, his left arm was hanging around your waist and he bent down to kiss you making you giggle against him.
"Can a boyfriend just be happy to be with his girlfriend?" You giggled once again and kissed him your arms wrapping around his neck to bring yourself closer to him.
"I also have this-" He pulled away from you to show you the small bracelet which was around his wrist, you stared at it with a smile.
"A friendship bracelet from Halsey!" You continued to stare at the small bracelet and forced yourself to keep the smile on your face, you didn't want to show him that it was bothering you so much.
"She's like a best friend." You looked down at the floor and smiled,
"That's great Jimin, I'm glad you like her so much already." It was true, you were happy he was getting along with her it wasn't as though he wasn't allowed to have friends that weren't girls, he had plenty but this one was bothering you for some reason. You loved Halsey but maybe it was because of how he'd introduced you or the way he pushed you to the side when she was around but it was bothering you more than it should have done.
"I'm going to have a shower before tonight, do you want to join me?" You giggled pulling at his sweatpants strings towards the en-suite but he was staring at the phone and shaking his head,
"We're going to eat with Halsey,"
"We?" Your heart picked up thinking it was you and the boys with Halsey but he turned to look at you,
"Yeah, we're going to do a small interview there with her camera crew." Your heart slowed back down again and you nodded,
"Okay...Shall I meet you back here or am I going to the venue?" You asked looking at him and he shrugged his shoulders,
"Whatever is easier for you." With that, he left the room without giving you a kiss or a hug goodbye and you felt your heart dropping back down to your stomach at the thought of him being with her again. Did he not want to be seen with you? Were you embarrassing to him? You decided you were going to be as normal as you could manage tonight, picking out one of the best dresses you'd brought along with you and going to meet them at the venue.
Tumblr media
You were dressed in an off the shoulder black skater dress which was thigh length and you were waiting in the changing room for the boys to come backstage and be with you, you knew you couldn't be out on the floor with them which is why you were in the changing room watching everything on a screen. The chemistry was hot on stage and you were proud of how amazing they had performed in spite of your feelings of jealously from before everything pushed away once you saw how it all worked on stage. Taehyung was the first one backstage with you and he picked you up in the air making you giggle at him being so childish with you,
"Ah! You guys did amazing!" You laughed and then looked at the sunflower shirt he was wearing,
"I'm so stealing this from you after tonight." Halsey started laughing from behind you, Taehyung put you back down on the ground and you hugged her once again.
"It's nice to see you again, I'm sorry you couldn't make it to dinner Jimin said you had a headache." You slowly nodded as you pulled away from her,
"Yeah but I'm all good now." You complimented her white suit and she complimented the dress that you were wearing, you were hitting it off amazingly until Jimin came over and threw his arms around you both and it brought back the fact that he told a lie to you and Halsey.
"You're so happy lately," You giggled looking up at him as he smiled down at you, Halsey was over talking to Namjoon and you were alone with Jimin.
"I have my two favourite girls with me, why wouldn't I be happy?" You smiled fakely and leant up to whisper in his ear,
"My headache is back I think I might go back to the hotel room." You felt him tense up as you mentioned the lie he'd told Halsey, you pulled away and locked eye with him.
"Baby-" You walked over to Taehyung and told him you weren't feeling well and that you would see him the next day instead,
"I hope you feel better soon," Halsey said with a pout wrapping you in a tight hug once again,
"I'll walk out with you." She said quick goodbyes to the boys and rushed out of the room with you, once you were alone in the hallway with no one but her bodyguard she linked your arms together.
"I'm sorry about Jimin, I had no idea you were dating." You shook your head trying to laugh off what she'd said,
"I-I'm just their friend, me and Jimin-"
"Relax, I know the signs." You sighed and rounded a corner she was still holding onto your arms,
"If I'd have known I never would have flirted back with him." You shook your head at her and smiled softly,
"It's fine, it's just in his blood to flirt." You mumbled but she didn't seem convinced that you were fine and wanted to somehow make it up to you for what she'd been doing,
"We'll go to dinner tomorrow and have a pamper night, how long are you in town for?" She was really trying to be friendly with you and you were excited about it you'd never really had girl friends before, just a couple of friends from school but you rarely spoke to them.
"I'd love that actually, I can't remember the last time I had a pamper night...I'm here for the rest of the week." She smiled agreeing to make more plans with you when she had the time but she was late, she handed you her number and let you leave in one of her cars back to the hotel.
Tumblr media
The week had been by in a flash and now you were back home with Jimin in your shared apartment, after that night with Halsey and him lying to you both you talked it all out. He promised he meant no harm by anything he'd been doing and you promised him it was fine.
"Who are you texting?" He asked once he noticed you smiling so much at your phone, you smiled at him and showed him the collection of photographs that Halsey had sent you.
"It's from the week, did I tell you she took me dancing?!" You asked excitedly showing him videos of you both on the dance floor doing the boy with Luv dance, she was really fun to hang around with and Jimin could feel himself getting jealous by the second. Ever since you'd been hanging around with Halsey that week she was all you could talk about and he was starting to see why you were so off with him last week.
"Jimin look." You giggled showing him the matching necklaces that you and Halsey had gotten on the last day, it was a love heart locket with a photo of you both inside and your initials carved onto the front.
"Your little green-eyed monster is showing Jimin." You teased as he walked away with a pout on his lips, you chased after him and threw your arms around his neck jumping up onto his back and kissing his head.
"I LOVE YOU!" You yelled making him chuckle, he pulled you back down to the floor and stood in front of you, he cupped your face in his hands and kissed you sweetly,
"I am sorry for what I did." You hummed and kissed him again,
"Makeup sex for the 16th time this week?" You giggled kissing down his neck and sucking along the skin, he groaned out your name and you smirked knowing the effect you had on him.
"Come on then." He chuckled putting your phone down on the table and running with you up to your room together.

Tumblr media
Have you watched Vera Drake lately? Obviously, you have to be in a certain Saturday-night mood to turn off The Masked Singer and choose to put on Mike Leigh’s tale of a big-hearted backstreet abortionist in the East End in 1950. But it’s worth another visit. It’s one of the great British films and turbo-boosted the careers of many a character actor. Leading the ensemble cast in the title role — in an Oscar-nominated, Bafta-winning performance — was Imelda Staunton, who would become queen of them all. And possibly even the Queen. We’ll come to that.
“Just the best, best, best job of my life,” is how Staunton reflects on Vera Drake now. “Yeah, it was very hard to continue after that.”
After Vera Drake, Staunton had the little-old-lady role pretty much sewn up. The “little” is unavoidable. She’s 5ft nothing. In the hotel sideroom in which we meet, she fidgets on the edge of an armchair, sipping a juice a similar shade of green to her blouse and trench coat, which she keeps on throughout the interview. The “old” is perhaps more unfair: she was in her forties when she played Drake. We meet the day before her 64th birthday. “I think a lot of women now don’t think about their age because it’s changed for women, hasn’t it?”
She did “harrowing” again last year in ITV’s true-crime A Confession, playing the mother of Sian O’Callaghan, the 22-year-old from Swindon who was murdered in 2011. But otherwise, of late, she’s been — in the nicest way possible — British cinema’s arch biddy: in the gay-rights drama Pride; in Nanny McPhee; in the Downton Abbey movie alongside her husband, Jim Carter, who plays the long-suffering butler Carson; and as Professor Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter films. It all comes back to Mike Leigh. “I wouldn’t have got Harry Potter if my profile hadn’t been upped with Vera Drake,” she says. “They might have wanted me, but I wasn’t, you know, hot enough.”
At the end of last year, it was reported that the ultimate little-old-lady part was coming Staunton’s way: succeeding Olivia Colman as the Queen in series five and six of The Crown. Netflix played it down as “speculation”. But at a charity event at the Ivy before Christmas, Grant Tucker, the Sunday Times entertainment correspondent, asked Staunton’s husband, Carter, what it was like being married to royalty. “Thankfully I don’t have to start bowing to her for another two years,” he replied, “so I have plenty of time to practise.” So it’s true? Staunton’s reply is immediate, polite and professional: “I can’t discuss anything to do with that.” Which isn’t, you’ll note, a no.
She tells me she woke up at 4am today, thinking about her next big gig — Hello, Dolly! at the Adelphi Theatre. It isn’t on until August. Rehearsals don’t start until June. But “to me, that’s 10 minutes”, she says. “I just know the process is beginning. As Jim said, ‘This is the rest of the year, is it?’ I think about it and think about it. ‘How the hell am I going to do that?’ [Past success] means nothing at all, because it’s the next challenge. The more people say, ‘Ooh, it’s going to be great,’ the more I just get so depressed.”
And what success. In the West End, she’s busted free of the twinsets to become a bona fide, big-lunged musical star — a pocket rocket with a trail of five-star reviews and awards in her wake. Her first Olivier was back in 1991, for Into the Woods. In 2013, she won one for Sweeney Todd, in which she appeared alongside Michael Ball. Stephen Sondheim saw her performance and told her she should take on a revival of Gypsy next. The 2016 Olivier followed for that.
Her dog, Molly, a terrier, appeared on stage with her in the early performances of Gypsy, at the Chichester Festival Theatre. One time, during the West End run, a mouse snuck into her costume. “I did the whole first 20 minutes with a mouse inside the sleeve of my coat, singing the song, carrying on the scene. It’s good what your head can cope with, isn’t it?” It’s not the sort of thing that should happen to a Harry Potter star, surely? “That’s what you want. That’s the reality of the glamour of the thing.”
Staunton grew up in Archway, north London, above her mum’s hairdressing shop. Her dad was a labourer. Her mum, a first-generation Irish immigrant, was a big fan of the Queen. She died just before her daughter received her Oscar nomination for Vera Drake, and before Staunton collected her OBE and later CBE from the palace. “She’d have bloody loved all that,” she says.
She went to a convent school — “a really nice one because we had a lot of lay teachers”. Her report cards read: “Imelda could try harder, but she was very good in the play.” Her elocution teacher, Mrs Stoker, pushed her towards Rada, where contemporaries included Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall and Juliet Stevenson. When she got her first job in London, in 1982, it was in a musical: Guys and Dolls at the National Theatre. Staunton, by now used to lead roles, was only in the chorus. “I was thinking, ‘I just played Electra, what am I doing? Oh God.’” But Ian Charleson, Bob Hoskins, Julie Covington and Julia McKenzie were higher up the bill. “That’s what I was doing there: learning, really, really learning. That was wonderful.”
Also in the cast, seven years her senior, was Jim Carter. They married the following year. In 1986 they appeared together in Dennis Potter’s classic TV musical The Singing Detective. But, until the Downton movie, their working lives seldom intersected. “We don’t ever try not to work together — we just haven’t,” she says. “On the Downton film, we got completely overexcited, as we went to work for three days at the same time. What was lovely was doing the publicity together: travelling, just being in a hotel. We made sure we enjoyed ourselves.”
They have had a long-standing pact not to spend more than a couple of weeks apart, a rule Staunton broke to film Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock (no, me neither). “I think it was five weeks: I was in America and thought, ‘Yep, that’ll do.’”
She enjoyed last summer filming Flesh and Blood, a new four-part ITV drama, on the coast near Eastbourne. “The sea does do something different to you, doesn’t it? I do think it would be brilliant to have somewhere by the sea, but it’s not going to happen.” She’s happy at home in Hampstead with Carter, walking the dog, spending days at the Test match and doing the gardening: “That’s probably an older person’s thing to say. Well, f*** it, you know? It’s healing, really healing. Having a stable place to come back to is quite necessary for me and for Jim, I think. It nourishes us. It allows us to go into a place that isn’t comfortable because you know you can get back to a more comfortable place.”
Flesh and Blood is an example of good parts being written for older people, especially women. “I’m encouraged by it,” says Staunton. “Very encouraged.” It’s not so much a whodunnit as a whodunnwot. In its rather gripping first episode, there’s a mystery body on a beach and a recent widow (played by 74-year-old Francesca Annis) starting a new life with a new fella who has a whiff of the gigolo about him. Staunton is back as the little old lady, Mary, a creepy next-door neighbour with a pair of binoculars and penchant for opening other people’s mail. This primetime drama does contain scenes of pensioners smooching.
“It’s not just for the sake of it,” says Staunton. “This isn’t trying to be ‘Oh, we’re beautiful things having sex later in life.’ There’s a loving relationship developing. The fact that [in one of Annis’s scenes] the dressing gown slips off is not extraordinary.” Would Staunton ever want a crack at being the older woman getting the, ahem, action? “I don’t think that would be required,” she replies. “I don’t think so, no — not unless it was funny.”
We talk about the trial of the film producer Harvey Weinstein. What experience has Staunton had of that grim — and criminal — casting- couch culture? “None. Absolutely none,” she says. “I’m not surprised [that it goes on], but I’ve always been in situations where women are treated equally. In the rehearsal room, women behave as they wish to behave and are listened to, and that’s normal. I never thought, ‘Oh, isn’t this marvellous, somebody’s listening to me?’ I’ve never witnessed it, but I hope good will come out of this. The irony of that” — she pauses to choose the word carefully — “situation is that that man [Weinstein] has made good things happen now. Hurrah.”
It won’t come as too much of surprise that she voted Labour in last month’s election — her MP, Tulip Siddiq, has a 14,000-vote majority in Hampstead and Kilburn, Glenda Jackson’s old seat. Staunton voted for remain. She also featured in a video last year for Extinction Rebellion, organised by Richard Curtis. “It was a friend who said, ‘Could you come along, they’re just doing it today, this bit of filming.’ Well, I was doing nothing else. I’m not climbing up the side of a building, so I’ll go and do that. If I can help, I’ll do that. As much as we can all do, every little bit helps.”
Does she worry about putting her head above the parapet like that? “No, not at all. That’s the only bloody point of any slight fame: you’ve got to use it, to put it to good use.” She has also provided the voice for some polar bears for Greenpeace. “Trump is just an absolute
It’s just a nightmare, and the climate’s a nightmare and Brexit’s a nightmare. And yet I wake up thinking about Hello, Dolly!”
At 64, Staunton seems to recognise that a Vera Drake or Hello, Dolly! might not roll round again. Even Harry Potter was, she says, “a very serious piece of work, weirdly”. She feels lucky that an actor’s life goes on. So no plans to retire? “I don’t think people do, do they? Name me an actress! No, you won’t get bloody Maggie Smith retiring. It’s a very nice job, if you can get it.” Plus, she’s still hoping someone will cast her alongside her 26-year-old daughter, Bessie, also an actress. “I’d love that. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.”
I hope they do give her the Queen job. If there’s anyone who could add some plausibility and empathy to the madcap past 12 months of royal history, from Megxit to the sweat-free antics of Prince Andrew, it is Staunton. I would pay good money to watch her, in standard-issue HRH lemon-yellow frock and tight-curled wig, look up, fix her aide with a stare and utter the words: “A Pizza Express
 in Woking?”
Flesh and Blood is on ITV in February

Post #133 – Could Yui from K-ON! have Dyspraxia?
Welcoming Yui!
Yui from K-On! is the newest addition to my on-going ‘potential dyspraxic character’ project. It’s been a while since I’ve done a potential dyspraxic analysis, although not from a lack of content, just Yui zoomed straight to the top of the list. For starters, Yui is a character I consider to be a strong contender for the potential dyspraxic title. Then there’s the point that I finished ‘K-On!’ fairly recently so felt I should get my thoughts out while it’s still in my head! Plus I wanted to do something light because these recent months have been tough, both personally and globally. Got to be honest though, you can’t get much more light-hearted than K-On!!
Originally, this post was going to be fairly short, however as I looked into Yui as a character more and more talking points seemed to sprout up! I’ve gone ahead and added her profile to the Potential Dyspraxic Character page and simply listed everything out if you rather a quick reference version. Link is at the bottom of this page.
Potential Dyspraxic Characters
For those unfamiliar with my blog, just a quick sum up what this is all about. This kind of post is for me to show how I perceive certain characters and the possibility that they could be dyspraxic. We have unique ways of connecting with fictional characters and sometimes we can relate to them in unusual ways. Seeing as dyspraxia is a combination of certain human traits, it means there’s a possible that characters may end up with a ‘dyspraxic combination’ purely by accident. In no way is this trying to discredit the original creation, but to see them in an alternative light. Take this, and any of my analyses, with a pinch of salt.
DISCLAIMER: With these character profiles I may bring up key-points and moments from their franchise, so potential minor spoilers ahead! Also as I’ve only seen the anime this analysis will leave out anything exclusive to the manga.
Yui and K-ON!
‘K-On!‘ is a popular slice-of-life manga revolving around the lives of the Light Music Club’s members, that got an anime adaptation. The anime has spanned several seasons, specials, spin-offs, a movie, and a library of music to date. For what this post is worth, if you want something light-hearted to get absorbed into then I highly recommend K-On! to you.
Could Yui Hirasawa be Dyspraxic?
Yui Hirasawa is the protagonist of ‘K-On!’; she is a member of the Light Music Club and the band Ho-kago Tea Time (After-School Tea Time). She is the lead guitarist and lead vocalist for the band. On the outside, Yui is your classic ditsy anime character; she’s easily distracted, sometimes forgetful, and gets into little accidents frequently. With other dyspraxic-type traits revealing themselves, it got the gears in my head turning and it simply clicked together for me that Yui could well have dyspraxia.
Co-Ordination and Clumsiness
Yui is really clumsy and has the habit of falling over, dropping things, tripping up, and bumping into people and objects. Over the course of the series, Yui shows she has balance issues. especially when she’s carrying something, like a tray of mugs or something bulky like a speaker. She’s a messy eater too as seen on a few occasions. On top of this, Yui sometimes has other slight issues with gross motor co-ordination.
On the flip-side, when it comes to fine motor skills Yui doesn’t have any real issues with it. After all, she has a certain talent for playing guitar.
Tumblr media
Oh Yui, I feel your pain!
Thought and Memory
Given that Yui’s short-term memory is awful and couple it with the fact she gets distracted ever so easily and you have a perfect recipe for disaster! When she learns something new, it often pushes something she memorised previously out of her head.
Yui’s time-keeping is pretty bad, although a few times she misread her alarm clock and arrived at school incredibly early. The first occurrence happens in the first episode where she even got distracted along the way
twice! The people around her have picked up on her unorthodox time-keeping skills and easily distracted nature, so it is fair to conclude this is a common occurrence for Yui.
Yui is quite forgetful too; whether it’s forgetting to do her homework or leaving her guitar at home on the day of a concert, she certainly doesn’t discriminate against what to forget! She struggles to remember music terminology and plays using intuition and her self-taught approach. Similarly, many people with dyspraxia find their own ways to learn and achieve when conventional ways are too difficult. At some point in the series she lost a mitten too, because of course she did!
Yui struggles with multi-tasking and this is something that others are well aware of. At first, she found it impossible to sing and play her guitar simultaneously. Although, after some 1-2-1 tutoring she was finally able to crack it, but still has difficulty to do both sometimes.
A line extracted from her Wiki Bio: “She cannot do more than one thing at a time, but to make up for that she can be highly focused on a particular subject and once started, can advance quite substantially.”
When it comes to her academic abilities, Yui struggles tremendously with it. In one exam, she was the only one in her class to fail and had to retake it. With effort and support from her friends and sister she passed it second time around. However, not only did she pass it, but she absolutely aced it! While this alone isn’t exactly a dyspraxic trait, it embodies the spirit of dyspraxia quite nicely; especially when the other factors of Yui are taken into account.
Despite being viewed as stupid and an air-head, Yui is really observant and alert. A few times, she realises an issue before anybody else has.
We get a little bit of extra character building in K-On!’s spin-off series, ‘Ura-On!’. In one episode, we see that Yui gets lost easily and judging by her personality it wouldn’t be surprising if this is actually the case. I am unsure if ‘Ura-On!’ is canon or not, but it does seem faithful to the characters, so I’m going to count it.
Perception of Senses
Yui has an aversion to both hot and cold temperatures and can’t deal with them very well. She’s also sensitive to air-conditioning units. Quote from Yui: “I’m scared of hot and cold. In winter, I hide under the heating table and in summer, I lie in bed and do nothing.”
As mentioned previously, her spatial awareness is something she struggles with as she does bumps into people and objects pretty often.
Something to note: Yui has the rare gift of having ‘perfect pitch’. Wikipedia states it as: “Absolute pitch (AP), often called perfect pitch, is a rare ability of a person to identify or re-create a given musical note without the benefit of a reference tone”. Wikipedia then goes on to state: “There is evidence of a higher rate of absolute pitch in the autistic population.” Dyspraxia and autism have overlaps, so there could be more to Yui than at first glance. In short, this helps solidifies an autistic side which by proxy, helps to cement a dyspraxic side.
For the Wikipedia page on ‘Absolute pitch’ click here
Emotion and Behaviour
Yui has difficulty controlling her emotions and can get overwhelmed easily. Even with positive news she can struggle processing it and have a mental overload. She can get overwhelmed if she has too much information to process, which can lead to an emotional breakdown. The Light Music Club members understand she has this difficulty and do their best for her. Mainly by explaining things to her in a way she’ll understand and also help calm her down when she has a meltdown.
Yui dozes off often as she does get tired fairly quickly. Although, there are times where she’ll go to bed late due to getting absorbed into practising guitar or revising. Additionally, she can have a short attention span and she gets distracted easily.
Yui has some social awkwardness to her and I think she struggles at picking up on non-verbal cues, like on some occasions taking jokes literally and sarcasm can fly over her head. Also, Yui sometimes hugs a little too hard because she lets her emotions get the better of her, but there is a possibility that there’s a co-ordination difficulty at work too.
Speech and Language
Sometimes Yui gets stuck for words and stutters, which is a link back into her getting overwhelmed. She has shown that sometimes she can get words mixed up too. These issues don’t crop up too often though.
Yui Overall
Yui has a strong connection to dyspraxia and in my opinion scores incredibly favourable overall. In fact, she tops the list! Yui’s prominent clumsiness, getting easily overwhelmed, and a pure heart make her a character that those with dyspraxia can probably relate to quite easily. While she can lose interest easily and gets distracted even easier, with the right help or push she can, and does, succeed. While it would seem no one has brought up a possibility of Yui having dyspraxia online, at least as far as I can tell, some people have raised the idea that she could be on the autism spectrum and/or have ADHD. With certain overlaps it isn’t a stretch to believe that she could be dyspraxic too.
Yui is an embodiment of Dyspraxic Fantastic at its core and holds a certain spirit of dyspraxia. What sets her apart from other characters on my list is a certain depth and richness to her character.
And to wrap this post up, a nice sentimental quote from Yui: “To the me back then, you don’t need to worry. You’ll soon find something you can do, something you can set your heart on.”

All of your GoT ocs for the oc profile ask
Full Name: Shaera TargaryenGender and Sexuality: Female / BisexualPronouns: She/herEthnicity/Species: Dornish & Valyrian / HumanBirthplace and Birthdate: King’s Landing, Crownlands. 280AL.Guilty Pleasures: Actually enjoys donning nice dresses, when she manages to beat her twin brother when they duel, studying High Valyrian.Phobias: Someone betraying her trust. Shaera is betrayed several times through the course of her story, so it’s incredibly difficult for her to put her trust in someone, and when she does she’s so afraid that it will be used against her. What They Would Be Famous For: I would say for being a fantastic female monarch of Westeros. Shaera rules knowing it’s her duty and she doesn’t believe it’s a ‘right’ just because it’s her inheritance. She takes her responsibilities seriously, so she would be a much-loved queen. What They Would Get Arrested For: Damage to property or something of the like.OC You Ship Them With: Hmm this is tough. I can honestly see her having a bit of a crush on @have-fun-storming-the-kastle‘s Myra Stark, or @perfectlystiles‘s Celaena Baratheon.OC Most Likely To Murder Them: I feel like @susiesamurai‘s Ysaviel Martell would either love or hate her, since they’re technically cousins.Favorite Movie/Book Genre: TragedyLeast Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: Love trianglesTalents and/or Powers: Shaera is adept with small knives. Her Dornish side of the family considered it mandatory that she know how to fight, like her cousins the Sand Snakes. Shaera is also very emotionally intuitive, and in touch with her own feelings as well. Why Someone Might Love Them: Although dedicated to do her duty, Shaera isn’t emotionless - in fact she’s quite passionate and sensitive. She makes a very good friend, and you could definitely rely on her in times of crisis. Why Someone Might Hate Them: Sometimes, Shaera’s emotions can get the better of her - such as her impulsive marriage to Robb Stark. Although she sees the bigger picture, she does also have a bit of a self-absorbed element about her at times. How They Change: Shaera becomes a more level-headed and sensible leader. Initially she is passionate and subject to following whims, whilst as she matures, she thinks things through and makes decisions with more responsibility. Why You Love Them: Shaera is just a precious bean who deserves to be protected at all costs, like she’s honestly dealt a very harsh hand (by me, oops) and she’s just trying to cope with everything she’s experienced.
Full Name: Tamara ArrynGender and Sexuality: Female / HeterosexualPronouns: She/herEthnicity/Species: Andal / HumanBirthplace and Birthdate: The Eyrie, The Vale. 281AL.Guilty Pleasures: Coordinating pretty jewellery with her gowns, spending time with her children, sassing Cersei.Phobias: Losing her children or any other members of her family. What They Would Be Famous For: Most probably for being the last neutral party in Westeros. By the time Tamara swore allegiance to Aegon, she was the last of the Great Houses to choose a ‘side’.What They Would Get Arrested For: Probably murder or manslaughter - oh wait...OC You Ship Them With: Hmm I can’t really think of any male ocs but her and @starcrossedjedis‘s Tarlesyn Sand might get along!OC Most Likely To Murder Them: There are probably a bunch, anyone who’s pro-Daenerys really.Favorite Movie/Book Genre: DramaLeast Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: Ambitious women being ‘evil’.Talents and/or Powers: Tamara has grown incredibly good at manipulation. She reads people well, learns their strengths and weaknesses. Her skill at twisting people around her little finger is what led to her alliance with Aegon being mutually beneficial. Why Someone Might Love Them: Despite her machinations, Tamara can be witty and clever to benefit her family. She loves her children dearly, and doesn’t believe in overlooking her daughter when she has a son. She treats them both equally. Why Someone Might Hate Them: She’s ambitious and can overreach herself. She is also not afraid to make drastic moves to achieve the end result she wants - and it will eventually be her downfall. How They Change: Tamara was initially extremely proud and unwilling to accept that she might be able to have feelings for Jaime. Over time she’s realised that feelings aren’t weakness and she’s allowed to love her husband. She has also grown better at playing the game, and is soon to make a series of bold moves that will either make or break her.Why You Love Them: I see Tamara as a very morally grey character. She’s ambitious and manipulative, but she is also wanting to do what’s best for Westeros. She doesn’t believe in just giving up and letting things go, she will push until the bitter end.
Full Name: Delylah TullyGender and Sexuality: Female / DemisexualPronouns: She/herEthnicity/Species: Andal / HumanBirthplace and Birthdate: Riverrun, Riverlands. 281AL.Guilty Pleasures: Swimming in lakes and rivers, target practise with a bow and arrow.Phobias: Getting married and having a child. No joke, she’s really concerned about it. She knows how much depends on her acquiring a good husband and bearing a son, so it’s become something she dreads. What They Would Be Famous For: Being the thrice-wed Lady of Riverrun. Also her moniker of the Redfish for carrying out a particularly brutal murder. What They Would Get Arrested For: Public indecencyOC You Ship Them With: Ooh she and @moirei‘s Syrius Reyne Dalt might be cute tbh.OC Most Likely To Murder Them: Not sure on this one tbh. Maybe a Lannister oc?Favorite Movie/Book Genre: Action/adventureLeast Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: Women only considered ‘strong females’ because they can wield a weapon - there’s so much more to women than that!Talents and/or Powers: Delylah is relatively good at using a bow and arrows, however it’s more a hobby than something she considers a skill. She is also a very good swimmer, and would want all of her children to learn to swim from a young age as she did.Why Someone Might Love Them: Delylah definitely adheres to the Tully words of family coming first. She’s incredibly close with her father, grandfather and great-uncle, and dreads anything happening to them. Despite her struggles with the idea of being a wife and mother, she is still willing to do her duty. Why Someone Might Hate Them: Delylah is quite feisty and her position as heir to the Riverlands means she hates being looked down upon for being a woman, something that can really agitate a lot of men. Often doesn’t know when to shut up.How They Change: Delylah grows up from a fiery young girl to a woman with a sense of purpose. She finds having her first baby very difficult, from the pregnancy to having a newborn child, but she perseveres because she knows how important it is, and grows to love her baby. Why You Love Them: Delylah goes through a lot in order to save her family, but she does reach her breaking point. Although she wants her own freedom, she also knows it’s not a realistic option, so she goes for the next best thing - a convenient marriage with love as part of the equation.
Full Name: Medea BaratheonGender and Sexuality: Female / HeterosexualPronouns: She/herEthnicity/Species: Andal & Valyrian / HumanBirthplace and Birthdate: Storm’s End, Stormlands. 273AL.Guilty Pleasures: Drinking wine, attending extravagant parties, giving her opinions in council situations.Phobias: Her children being taken from her if she remarries, losing her independence. What They Would Be Famous For: Being the mother of the king, Valko Swann. What They Would Get Arrested For: Something to do with intoxicationOC You Ship Them With: She and @the-winter-falcon‘s Alaric Martell, although it’s kinda canon in the sense that they are lovers, it just doesn’t stay that way.OC Most Likely To Murder Them: Anyone pro-Targaryen or who just generally hates Baratheons.Favorite Movie/Book Genre: ComedyLeast Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: One-dimensional villains.Talents and/or Powers: Medea has power and authority - as the King’s only sister, she is seen as a handsome marriage prospect, despite the fact that she has wed and had children from a previous marriage. Her status as a widow means she also has a degree of independence, which she is reluctant to give up.Why Someone Might Love Them: Medea is quite easy-going and likes to have fun, however there is a serious side to her and she is very good with children and giving advice in general. She isn’t hateful or one to hold a grudge, and does try to understand her enemies’ way of thinking. Why Someone Might Hate Them: She can often be seen as overindulgent, and particularly in a culture that shames women for extra-marital sex, the fact that she sleeps around as an unwed woman leads to some referring to her as a whore. How They Change: As Medea’s children grow up, her relationship with them becomes different. Her eldest son is eventually the king, and she knows that as a young man, he may not always listen to her or take her advice. She doesn’t want to smother her kids, but wants them to know that they are loved. She also warms to the idea of having more children, as she and Jaime have several. Why You Love Them: It’s kind of nice to have a character who is already a mother at the start of the story, who’s a bit ‘older’ by Westeros standards (aka not a young maiden), as she has a bit of a different perspective on the world and different way of living.

MSA time travel idea (part 15)
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Vivi POV, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, Lewis POV, Part 12, Part 13, Part 14
Part 16: here
The first few hours on the road are almost relaxing. Lewis drives, Vivi and Mystery sit up front, and he has plenty of space alone in the back. Arthur doesn’t get carsick like Lewis does so he’s fine with sitting in the small, makeshift seat which he’s installed for this very reason, letting the engine vibrations calm his nerves. This set up has bothered him in the past. Now he’s just happy to watch Vivi and Lewis chat and joke together.
Everything is perfect right up until Vivi suggests, rather forcefully, that he take a turn driving up front with Lewis and Mystery while she takes a turn in the back. She’s been doing this a lot- trying to get him to interact with Lewis- and he has no idea why, only that it hasn’t been great for his anxiety levels.  Unable to really argue, not without seeming like a jerk, Arthur takes the driver’s seat wearily. At the very least, he doesn’t have to worry about accidentally making eye contact with his full attention on the road.
Gradually, he drives them through some nice-looking sloped ridges, almost mountains, following the road as it winds upward, higher and higher. Lush greens and dark browns are a nice change from the monotone desert he’s used to. Vivi seems to enjoy it, leaning over the middle seat divide, eyes fixed on the pristine landscape. Right. This is Vivi’s first time leaving the claustrophobic collection of small towns surrounding their even smaller township, of course she is going to find it fascinating.
Now, if only Lewis could be equally fascinated with the abundant natural beauty instead of fixating on Arthur’s profile. He swears he’s been acting as normal as conceivably possible, yet Lewis is still behaving like he’s got some strange dirt on his face.  Why? Why can’t they all go back to that easy friendship from his memories? Why is it so hard to just be himself?
“So I haven’t seen you online this last week?” Lewis finally comments, breaking his extended period of staring. There is a pause while he waits for Arthur to respond.
“Online?”  Arthur keeps his vision fixed on the slowly straightening road. They are now following along the top of one of the ridges.
“Your game accounts and chatrooms. You’ve been inactive lately. I was just wondering if there was a reason for that,” Lewis repeats, almost apprehensive.
“Oh yeah. Right
online games.”
Had he still been playing those at this point? He could have sworn he had drifted away from them by now.
“I’ve been busy working on this prosthetics project. I have this new idea on how to convert neuro-transmissions into electrical pulses, and I think it’s going to be pretty useful if I nail it,” Arthur can’t help but smile, happy that the excuse has a little bit of truth to it.
“That sounds
” Lewis pauses, surprised, “pretty big actually.”
“It will be once I get it working,”
It had been a somewhat significant breakthrough in his original timeline, a collaboration with researchers at the St Peter’s Medical Research Foundry, and his unhealthy work ethic. Now he is recreating everything solo and finding it a tad more difficult, especially with salvaged and sub-par equipment. As much as he had hated the hospital, the labs had been pretty cool. It’s also doing an excellent job at distracting him from his increasingly horrific nightmares.
“Still think a ghost detection device would have been cool,” Vivi pouts from the back, still mostly focused on the landscape rushing past. Out the window is a spectacular view of the adjacent valley.
Arthur grimaces, responding,  “Sorry Viv. You know I’ve been avoiding that sort of thing,” to keep with his ‘dislike of the supernatural’ image.
Vivi is now a lot more focused on the conversation because she quickly elaborates, “Oh no, don’t apologise. I’m just fantasising a little. Prosthetics are way more important.”
Arthur is hit with a small pang of renewed guilt. Maybe, when they get back, and he finally gets to see that psychologist he probably needs, he’ll miraculously get over his fear, and they can go ghost hunting for real. A ghost detection device would actually be pretty useful for avoiding potential disasters.
Lewis clears his throat, “About that. I know you’ve said that you’re apprehensive about investigating superstitions and supernatural locations, but I was wondering, and I’m not accusing you of anything
but I’ve noticed that you seem to bit more
jumpy lately.”
“Eh?”
That wasn’t good. So Lewis had noticed his aversions. His grip tightens around the steering wheel.
“If there’s anything I can do to help. Or if I can do anything, I don’t know, differently...” Lewis continues, speaking carefully, oblivious to his uneasiness, “You can always let me know. You know...”
This is not what he wants to be discussing.
He can’t tell if Lewis is disapproving or if he’s subconsciously adding texture where there is none. In his mind’s eye, he can almost see ghost Lewis glaring, angry and accusing. Everything is growing very hot and stuffy, van door and low ceiling pressing in on him.
Flames are drawing in close, licking at his clothes.
Crap. He needs out of the driver’s seat before he drives them to their deaths.
“Hey look! There’s a View Point. Let’s check it out,” He blurts, spinning the steering wheel with more urgency than strictly needed. Vivi cries out in surprise and Mystery yelps as he is flung onto Lewis’s lap. Everything rotates, left wheel briefly lifting from the pavement, and they rocket down a narrow exit ramp.
“Arthur! What the heck,” Vivi squawks from the back, popping back up from where she’s toppled over, slightly frazzled. His heart is beating exceptionally fast, and he slows the van to a more manageable speed. The last thing he wants to do is crash.
“A little warning next time. Geez. I could have died back there, ” Vivi complains when they pull into a small parking bay. She doesn’t appear to have noticed his unsubtle ploy to quickly end his conversation with Lewis. Ahead of them is a sheltered enclave, enclosed by rock walls which raise up to meet the highway they had just exited.
“Sorry. Sorry. I just saw this turn and thought you’d want to stop and take a photo or something,” Arthur defends even as he’s leaping out the driver’s seat to get clear of both Lewis and Mystery. In the few seconds he is out of view, obscured by the bulk of the van, Arthur takes a moment to collect himself. He presses himself against the van's cool surface, hand over his chest, feeling out his heart and natural rhythm. Slowly, he counts his breaths, wrestling with a brief bout of slightly blurry vision.
“Wow!”
Vivi, who has flung open the back of the van, climes out, standing near him. She is staring happily out at the vast, open space. The brilliant blue sky stretches away infinitely and before them is a collection landscape, ridges, and valleys sprawling for miles. They have stopped at an official View Point, with several wooden plaks containing information on local frontier towns and an accompanying area map.
“Guess this is worth almost dying for,” She goes to give him a half-playful wack in the arm. The right arm, thankfully.
“Haha. Don’t joke about that,” Arthur mutters, trying to shake the lingering jitters as quickly as possible. Briefly, he makes eye contact with Mystery who is standing at Vivi’s feet. The dog is watching, head cocked to one side, considering Arthur with intelligent eyes. The appearance of intellect is broken when Mystery turns to scratch an ear with his back leg.
Vivi walks to lean against the railing, which cordons off the steeper part of the sloop down, pulling out her phone to take pictures. The wind pulls at, and whips about, her hair and short blue skirt. Arthur averts his gaze awkwardly and accidentally makes eye contact with Lewis who is walking around from the passenger’s side. The taller man is watching again, expression creased into a deep frown, slightly hurt. Arthur looks away guiltily. What, exactly, Lewis is thinking, he doesn’t know, but it’s probably nothing good.
“Hey check that out,” Vivi calls, “You can see the start of the desert from here.”
“Guys,” Vivi turns when they fail to answer, taking in the awkward distance between them. A second and they’re all silent, listening to the wind rustle the branches of nearby foliage.
“Come on then. Let’s take a picture together. First one of the trip.” Vivi motions for them to stand side by side, putting the wide vista in the background. Her eye’s move between them once again before she is distracted be a shiver brought about by another gust.
“It’s actually a lot cooler up here then it was done there.”
“Who would have thought,” Lewis teases, voice light with only a hint of unease from their standoff. Looks like they’ve all collectively decided to ignore the last few seconds of tension. For now anyway. He’ll find some time to talk to Lewis later when he’s in a better mindset.  Arthur lets out the breath he has been holding.
“You can have my jacket if you want,” Lewis is offering, walking up to the railing, sounding more natural. Arthur notes that that drop down isn’t particularly steep, being more of an incline.
“Keep your jacket, you know I have a pack of extra clothes,” Vivi huffs, motioning them impatiently into a clump so she can take the picture. It is only somewhat uncomfortable. Good thing he’s practised smiling.
The rest of the drive goes smoothly with Arthur insisting that he return to sitting at the back, alone. It’s telling when Vivi doesn’t fight him on it, letting him retreat in peace. They lose three hours at another rest stop, this one bordering a wide forested area, when Vivi insists Mystery get a chance to stretch his legs. Arthur opts to sit in the bed of his van among their various bags, doors secure outward, giving him a view of Vivi and Lewis as they throw a ball for Mystery.
The fresh air, the smell of pine, and the gentle rustling of wind is familiar is a way he has come to expect, having lived similar scenarios on his previous road trips.  What isn’t familiar is the creeping isolation and disconnection from Vivi and, to a lesser extent, Lewis. Sure, he had often felt left out and ignored in his original timeline, but it had never been so defined. Not that he can complain, this had been his goal after all.
Note: I swear this is going somewhere. Bear with me.

[Guide to Joining the Fandom ①] “Handsome But Even Funny”... ASTRO’s ‘Useless Facts’
Kind mummy bird, JinJin
If you’re curious who’s the red head from their 'Crazy Sexy Cool' stages, it’s JinJin. On the day of the interview, he hurt his eye during practice and had to do the interview before everyone else. Despite needing rest from his injury, he told me that he’d go through the arranged schedule and approached me first so I was both thankful and apologetic. He left after enthusiastically filling out the questionnaire and earnestly answering my questions. It was even more of a shame since he thought of his ipdeok* point as his 'eye smile'.
The remaining members of ASTRO promised me that after JinJin left, they’d do an exposù on him but what actually happened after he did leave was hem only going on about how cool and good of a leader JinJin is. He was exactly like the leader who mentioned his ipdeok* points were his eye smile and sincerity.
Q. You wrote 188cm for today’s profile? JinJin: I wondered how the air is like up there because my friend from middle school was 189cm so I got teased a lot whenever I went around with him (laughs). It’s my wannabe height (Cha Eunwoo, who was listening in from the side, explained to him that the air up there is like this and that and Moonbin, who was next to him, burst into laughter).
Q. Your command of slang is commendable (Cha Eunwoo and JinJin went "Agreed? Yeah bogam**," skilfully mastering slang) JinJin: I learnt from Seol Hyuksoo’s video (laughs). I learn a lot thanks to our fans. My friends don’t know too well. (They call you an 'oldie' if you learn) Ah! Cha Eunwoo: I learnt from him.
Q. It’s written here that you’d like to play 10 years later. JinJin: I want to do nothing and enjoy myself on a holiday for a month. Moonbin: Take us along too!
JinJin decided on writing his ranking according to who eats well. The members heard him and nodded their heads in agreement. I heard various revelations about how much ASTRO are capable of eating.
MJ: I think Eunwoo’s no. 1! JinJin: Eunwoo’s more about the side dishes than his rice. MJ hyung eats often and he’s the first to put his bowl down. To be honest, I also though of Eunwoo as no. 1 but MJ hyung

ASTRO mentioned that they’ve ever eaten 100 million won worth of pork belly when they were trainees. They said it was was to the point that they each ate three bowls of rice and had four servings of soybean paste stew. They tell me they’ve eaten 250 million won worth of beef. They claim that even when they go overseas, they’ll go till the end when it comes to food.
Q. What you remember from 2017 and what you want to achieve in 2018 are both 'AROHA'. JinJin: I talked about it when I went for the Seoul Music Awards with the members, I said how nice would it be if we could fill a concert venue just as big with only our fans. We held our first solo concert and got our own lighsticks, it was touching seeing the venue coloured with purple light and I was also thankful to our fans. We have a lot of members who can play instruments so I feel like you can see ASTRO’s diverse colours if one day we form a band.
Q. Where do you want to hang out with AROHAs? JinJin: Gangwon-do? (JinJin corrected himself right away after the members asked if it isn’t cold out now) I went to Anmyeondo with my family and the view was great. We were walking towards the lighthouse and on our left was strong waves while on our right, the water was still because of the seawall. It felt like I was witnessing two faces of the sea and it was cool so I want to show it to AROHAs.
JinJin asked, "When is ASTRO the coolest?" For your information, the answer he was expecting is, "When I meet eyes with JinJin."
*’ipdeok’ means to join the fandom. **It’s a wordplay on ‘Donguibogam’, or otherwise known as ‘Treasured Paragon of Eastern Medicine’.
The most dangerous age of 19, Rocky
To be honest, the first person who swiftly wrote down his answers to the questionnaire was Rocky. He jotted them down quickly and waited for the there members. He showed off his unique charms in unexpected areas. I can’t forget how he listened attentively to the members’ answers and showed animated reactions. It’s often that someone would think 'Rocky = dance' but you can also think 'Rocky = articulate'.
Q. Is Rocky ASTRO’s 'handsome rock'? Rocky: I used to introduce myself at the reliable rock but I think I’m handsome lately so I added that on and wanted to go with 'handsome rock'. But maybe not now. Today’s not my day (laughs). But I’ve lost my baby fat so
I want to grow handsomer turning into an adult (When are you the most handsome?) When I finish performing, my bloating has gone down and I’m about to go back to the dorm, I take a look into the mirror and since my bloating has all went away, that’s when I try to take a selfie.
Q. You wrote down that ASTRO are really cool. Rocky: Our image is bright and we give off the vibe that we’re very playful but we change 180 degrees when we’re altogether creating a stage where we have to show something. There’s a side to us that focuses on work. I think it’s cool how we’re always bright and then go all in with practising.
Q. As expected, Rocky’s ipdeok* point is dance? Rocky: No matter whatever way I think of it, dance is where I’m the most charming. The fans always say different things but they usually know me first through dance and then look at my visuals etc. after gaining interest.
Q. Is it your dream that after 10 years, you’ll be putting together your own house? Rocky: (Rocky was the most enthusiastic when he was answering this and he explaining with his eyes wide open) I looked into land in Jinju. It’s really wide and cheap. I talked to my dad about building on that land and living there. I got it down to the details.
Rocky organised simply the 'ranking them my way' placings according to age. He said he was worried what criteria he should go by and the members might feel hurt no matter how he does it so he wrote it starting from the youngest, Sanha.
Q. You’re an adult next year, right? Rocky: I’m no longer attending school and turning into an adult so I have to do well on my own (He says that when he becomes an adult, he wants to go to the bathhouse even in the early hours. He continued on that before that, minors weren’t allowed to enter after 10PM so it was a shame. In 2018 you’ll be able to see Rocky lying spread out in the bathhouse).
Q. Give some adice to Sanha who will soon be turning 19. Rocky: I’m a year older than you, um
I think you’ll have to live while being thankful for each and every day. It’d be nice if you attend school regularly
Ah, we won’t just sit still later on when you act cute to us and whatever else so maybe you should start doing them properly now
Yoon Sanha: I will~ (Even after that, Sanha was constantly doing aegyo to his hyungs all throughout the interview)
*’ipdeok’ means to join the fandom.
Cha Eunwoo whose titles are also burdensome
Cha Eunwoo’s the member who was last in answering his questionnaire. He also added on to his answers as he listened to the other members’ ones. It was to the point that after hearing the reason why MJ chose a purple pen, he purposely borrowed it to write his 10th answer which was a question to AROHAs. He quietly listened to what his members had to say. Contrary(?) to his clean cut image, he’s a good looking guy who’s unexpectedly familiar even with the trendy slang. Cha Eunwoo grew up always feeding on AROHA’s praises and love.
Q. You drank americano just a while ago, do you need a latte? Cha Eunwoo: Usually I have my coffee in the form of latte. There’s a certain charm to it. My mood gets lifted when I drink it.
Q. You also wrote that you need Rocky’s choreographing skills. When you say 'cha', are you talking about it meaning 'tea' or 'car'? Cha Eunwoo: There’s something I need to practice on so I thought it’d be better if I had Rocky’s choreographing skills. Both of them are correct but I feel like I’m getting healthier when I drink a lot of tea. I mainly drink whatever’s being offered as '2+1' (laughs). I also want to hang out together with the members (using a car).
Q. I thought you’d write 'face genius'. Cha Eunwoo: For 'cool guy' and 'reliable pillar', that’s who and what I want to be. I want to be an existence you can depend on. As for 'Father', it’s something I realised recently, but the members are all cute (Cha Eunwoo kept calling MJ 'My son!' throughout the interview).
Q. It’s unique how you described ASTRO as 'gentlemen'. Cha Eunwoo: Ever since previously, we have been trying to express a gentleman-like vibe. Like the movie 'Kingsman'. Other teams also have good teamwork but I’m really confident that our team’s is really good. As for 'pro idol', it’s because I’m good at communicating with our fans and I can do well on stage? (laughs) I’m 'Father' so that’s why 'family' and we’re overflowing with energy so I wrote drown 'energetic'. We’re fun and full of pep.
Q. There are so many things that you wrote for your ipdeok* point! (coolness, good looks, voice, kindness, detailedness, diligence, sometimes funny, sweetness, intelligence, softness) Yoon Sanha: I don’t want to admit it but I admit it. He’s handsome even though I see him all the time. Rocky: We find him funny too. Even though we see him all the time (laughs). Moonbin: I let out an exclamation whenever I watch TV. I’m always fascinated how he can look like that. We always see him all the time yet we’re like this (laughs).
Q. What do you mean by 'cool guy'? Cha Eunwoo: A  guy who keeps to his promises, who has a sense of responsibility, who’s cool both inside and out. As for 'South Korea’s best popular guy', it’s something I want to really experience once. I attended an awards ceremony and there were cool singers and actors engulfed by cheers so I was jealous and I want to work hard and be worthy of being called 'popular'. I watched all of 'Useless Facts'. It’s a program I really like and it’s fun watching stories embedded with information. I liked writer Kim Yeongha the most so just like those people, I want to be an all rounded good looking guy who also knows a lot. When I age 10 years later.
Q. Instead of now, you made a dance ranking for 5 years later? Cha Eunwoo: Because I really want to be good at dancing. I’m getting help from Rocky. It’s ranked my way but I want to develop an interest and work hard.
Q. Seems like the hiccup with the audio system during the media showcase left quite the impression on you. Cha Eunwoo: I was taken aback and there was sweat dripping from my bum (There was a problem with the audio system during the media showcase for their 'Crazy Sexy Cool' comeback where they had to pause in the middle of a song. They witty dealt with it by momentarily posing for picture taking, introducing their side tracks, etc.)
Q. What do you want to experience in 2018? Cha Eunwoo: There are a lot of things I want to experience. Before this round of promotions, I tried tennis and I also wanted to try sign language so I looked into it. I wanted to earn a license for being a soccer referee too so I looked it up. I often watch international soccer. I even inquired the federation about what I should do but realistically, it won’t work out. You have to referee for at least 100 middle school matches and 100 high school matches before they can give you the official license. There are a lot of things I want to learn an expose myself to. I also want to try unfamiliar things like fencing and ice hockey. I used to be afraid of challenging myself but you can do it when you actually try. Rocky, Yoon Sanha: You can just referee for our soccer matches!
Q. It’s interesting how you asked "How many times did you think of ASTRO today?" and "Im doing a good job right?" Cha Eunwoo: I’m curious how much our fans think of us in a day. I wanted to make this promotion meaningful so I try to upload a post on the fancafe everyday but I came into a little bit of a crisis yesterday. I uploaded but I hope they’ll one day be encouraged. It’s fun since I do it everyday and there are a lot of cute points when I go through the fans’ answers so it makes me laugh and there are many things I gain. It gives me energy and motivation.
(The fans would probably go, "I’ve to watch ASTRO’s video now so why study?" or "Why do I have to work?") Cha Eunwoo: Ah, really? Moonbin: Eunwoo tries to communicate a lot with the fans through twitter, vlive and the fancafe. He’s the one who takes lead the most.

Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid
Tumblr media
Words: 1460
Rating: K - T (for now)
Warnings: Does ass count as a swear word?
Chapter One - Self Defence
You kept your breathing paced as you went through the motions. Dodge, swivel, kick, pin. You say it in your head as you miss his punch, get behind him, take out his knees, and pin him. Your instructor taps the mat and you let him up with a smile and he nods his approval of your technique, only pointing out that you pinned him too lightly and in reality you would have to be more aggressive. You nod as you take his criticism, agreeing wholeheartedly.
You were weeks deep into your self defence class, a class absolutely necessary. You were proud of how far you’d come and how quickly you were able to disengage your instructor. He wasn’t taking it easy on you either; you had asked him not to.
You weren’t the only one that noticed how well you were doing you noted as you took a drink from your water bottle. This small gym had become your favourite haunt after work and you noticed every new member throughout the weeks, and developed a friendly accord with the regulars.
There was one particular new member, only been there for a few days but clearly not his first gym as he went through his circuit with practised ease. On his water breaks, you noticed him watching you, trying to keep the glances casual but would always observe until you got your trainer onto his back. He would smile and get back to his workout quickly before you noticed.
“He’s here to film a movie. Some sort of celebrity. That’s why he’s out our gym. Low profile. He works hard though, and a nice guy.” Your instructor mumbled next to you, always willing to give you the gossip at the gym. He took out his fake knife – a wooden stick – for your next section of training: disarming an armed attacker. You especially liked these drills and jumped right back into it.
You trained for another half an hour, disarming and pinning your trainer, working on different techniques, and trying out more forceful fight styles. You had him down a final time before he tapped and you helped him up with a smile. You gave him a salute as he went to get ready for his next client when you heard the clapping.
The actor had been watching the last round, you knew, but instead of playing shy, he kept his smile up as you turned to him and gave a nod of appreciation.
“Nicely done. I’m impressed every time you get the drop on your trainer.” He says, as you take in his ball cap and his sweaty curls underneath that were plastered to his forehead. He had stopped clapping and crossed his arms across his chest, a stance that should have been defensive but looked natural on him.
You nodded a smiled again before giving a wave, letting him go on the conversation that you were sure wasn’t going to get too far. You turned instead to grab your own water bottle and towel. He was still watching you walk away, as you checked before you turned a corner. His expression was perplexed but did not lose its smile. The smile stayed with you for a long time after that.
You gym schedules did not cross again for a while, until well into the next week. Your trainer had texted you that he was running behind but would be there soon, so you kept to yourself on the mats, stretching and people watching. You saw a familiar ball cap and watched the body work on the pull up bars, easily lifting up and down. He did this funny air walking move that was a bit showy for your liking but still made you smile as he jumped down with a proud grin. He was clearly just finishing up his workout, if his damp clothes had anything to say about it.
He felt your stare and saw you on the mats, and when you gave him a small nod of acknowledgement, he took it as an invitation over. You sighed mentally as you pulled your phone closer, knowing you would need it soon.
“Are you here to kick his ass again?” he asked as he got within ear shot. You nodded and cracked your knuckles as menacingly as possible which caused him to laugh.
“I should probably introduce myself since I keep bothering ya. Tom,” he says holding out his hand, “Tom Holland.” You took his hand, and mouthed your own name.
His head cocked to the side as he tried to figure it out. He guessed correctly after two guesses which was better than most, before asking the Big Q.
“Can you not speak?” he asked, almost hesitantly. You prepared yourself for the slight let down every time a stranger became overwhelmed by this, and nodded, shrugging as if entirely unbothered by the situation. This is where it would normally end, a “Nice meeting you” before some excuse to head off, or, better yet, just walking away, as if you could also no longer hear.
You wouldn’t say your jaw dropped when he decided to sit on the floor next to you, legs outstretched in front of him and clearly not in a hurry to go anywhere, but you definitely almost gave yourself whiplash as you whirled your head around to watch him drop. As he placed his towel on the ground, you took this opportunity to find your phone again, preparing for the questions you would eventually have to type out.
“So what brings you to the gym – other than to show off your bad ass skills?” You smile as you type onto a blank message screen.
I only ever come here to be a bad ass.
He laughs when he leans closer to read your message, and you erase it to write Self defence. You?
“I’m Spider Man,” he says with a blasĂ© shrug, but his contained smile shows his pride in the roll. You take a second to look at him closer and see that holy shit yeah, he’s the newest Spider Man. You cover your shock with typing out Nbd with a smile, hopefully conveying the joke. He nods as well.
“A small role really. Why self defence, it seems like a great choice but not very common?”
I can’t exactly call for help if I need it.
He blushes as he watches you type and coughs awkwardly.
“Right, yep, smart.” He says, muttering “idiot” to himself as he scratches the back of his neck. You nudge him from his spiral of self deprecation having Don’t worry about it as a saved saying in your phone and show it to him. He nods with a sigh, rallying back up. I only just recently thought about this myself, when a situation happened and I realised that hey, I can’t call for help like they teach you.
“Do you mind if I ask what happened?” He seemed genuinely curious so you typed out a synopsis of the situation.
A guy took my phone. I had to find a pen and paper to report it like it was the medieval times.
He laughs again when you see your trainer jogging up.
“Sorry about that delay. Let’s get started if you’re all warmed up.”
“I’ll catch you later?” Tom asked with a hopeful look on his face. It was interesting to see. You nod as you stand and he follows your lead, but tugs at the hand holding your phone once you’re up.
“I’m not going to steal it,” he teases and you let him take it, watching him punch something into the blank text. He hands it back to you and you realise it’s his number.
“Text me when you’re back here and we can see if you can kick Spider Man’s ass.”
Your look of surprise from him so easily giving you his digits turns into a smile at the challenge, and you imitate a throat slice with your finger across your throat. Your message was implied; he was going down.
“Oh, we’ll see about that,” he says in a self assured voice, slowly stepping away backwards with a cheeky grin. He finally turns to head off and your see your trainer shaking his head out of the corner of your eye.
“Stop charming everyone at this gym, it’s distracting.”
You give a false look of “who, me?” and he chuckles. You swear if your hair wasn’t in a pony tail he would have ruffled it with pride. He leads you to a different section of the mats. You tried to put the exchange with Tom at the back of your mind, because honestly, you were still reeling.
He was different. Time would only tell how different.
Hey there friends. This is one very small part to that fic i was mentioning before. I have all the time in the world now (ish) so I can get back to writing a bit more.
I work with a lot of people that don’t have the ability to speak, and I never want to take lightly what the struggles they have on a regular basis. If I in any way disrespect that, please let me know. This character will definitely go more in depth as this story goes on.
Just realised that I didn’t have the ask on for this blog, but now it’s up and running and y’all can send me any concerns or requests now :)
None of the images are mine, nor is Tom Holland. Though we can call dream.  Keep it real.

for @canadiangarrison: I would like Athos saying this to Porthos, please: “As much as I want you to rest right now, it’s freaking me out that I can hold you down this easily", canon. It’s au, I dunno how or anything but it is set in my nice world where Constance and Anne are best gay friends and raise the lil prince in their non trad fam with his Dad and they all respect each other and... this is not about that at all. Like, at all. I dunno. Have fun :) LOL
Rest, that’s the eventual decision of the court physician when Porthos is dragged there by Constance, pulling in favours from Anne (Anne owes her a LOT of favours, after four years’ worth of companionship and friendship). Porthos comes out scowling and ignores Athos, Aramis and d'Artagnan many questions. He stomps back to the garrison and Treville greets them all cheerfully, then asks his own set of questions. Porthos is a little more deferential to Treville but still refuses actual answers to the questions, instead being vague and aggressively polite. He adds ‘sir’ or ‘captain’ to the end of every sentence in a manner quite frustrating and rather rude, though not in a way that can be pointed out. Treville stomps off up to his office and Porthos’s chin lifts, his lips tip up a tiny bit at the corners and his eyes brighten just a bit. He turns to Aramis and gets hold of his shoulder in a firm grip, propelling him into the practise yard and drawing his sword.
“Shall we read into him choosing to spar with Aramis instead of one of us?” d’Artagnan asks, he and Athos following to watch and settling on a table, boots up on the bench.
“Oh yes,” Athos says, eyes following Aramis carefully, watching each move. “We are far better than Aramis. Look how he’s still dropping his arm and throwing in ridiculous flourishes. He’s keeping an eye on the figure he cuts instead of his footwork.”
d’Artagnan laughs and watches for it, beaming when he catches Aramis fixing his hair and adjusting his stance to better show off his neat waist and profile. Porthos also catches the distraction and moves surprisingly quickly, getting in under Aramis’s loose guard and nicking his chest, above his open shirt-ties, inside the collar of his jacket, left open so it’ll billow. It’s neat and a pretty bit of footwork, deserving applause (possibly not applause, but Porthos likes applause so d’Artagnan fulfills that requirement when he feels it appropriate). d’Artagnan’s bringing his hands together and between once clap and then next Porthos loses his balance and falls, blade still dangerously close to Aramis’s throat. d’Artagnan stills and Athos stiffens, already moving, but Aramis has been watching for this and steading Porthos, twitching out of the way of the blade- Porthos only makes a small shallow cut along Aramis’s collarbone. Athos takes Porthos’s other arm and they hold him between them, his sword clatters to the ground, dropped, and Porthos pants, head bowed.
“Must I-” Athos begins.
“No,” Porthos says, still bad tempered but a little sheepish. He glances at Aramis.
“No apology necessary,” Aramis says, dabbing at the cut with a handkerchief. “No damage done.”
Porthos gives Aramis an irritable shove and Athos is sure he’d get the same treatment if Porthos could stand without aid right now. Athos takes advantage of whatever dizziness has overcome his friend and pulls him across the yard to the garrison rooms, ignoring Porthos’s protests that he’s fine and fit and ready to ride, blood and glory, screaming into battle.
“You’d fall from poor Mercredi’s back and leave her to fight a battle alone, and a horse is no match for whatever terrible enemy you are imagining,” Athos says, kicking his door until the latch gives (it usually does under firm vibration, Athos has fixed it. Inebriated entry is a normal enough occurrence that easy access is necessary).
“I bested Aramis,” Porthos points out as he’s propelled a little violently onto Athos’s bed, unmade this morning. “I’m fit.”
“Who exactly are you planning to fight, anyway?” Athos asks, curious for the answer, genuinely interested. There’s fears of a war with the Spanish, since the mess Rochefort made of things, but so far Anne has managed a tenuous peace with her brother. Athos takes off his boots and jacket and rests a hand on Porthos’s stomach, smiling when Porthos turns his head on the pillow to look up at Athos.
“Dunno,” Porthos says. “Red guard? Infidels?”
Athos snorts and removes Porthos’s boots, as he’s making no move to do so. He also takes Porthos’s belt and jacket, before Porthos notices he’s being readied for bed. Athos can guess the physician’s advice- if it was a serious illness Porthos would, grudgingly, have shared, and if it was nothing at all he’d have been crowing victory. Therefore, the probability is that the physician prescribed rest. Athos’s fingers find the ridge across Porthos’s hip and stomach, the still-healing and barely-scarred wound that laid him low month ago. He’s been back for two months but Athos has noticed his fatigue, and they’ve all noticed his bouts of dizziness. Athos hopes it’s from the way he’s been forgetting to eat and not been drinking, or rather drinking mainly wine, and not from some business with his head. He had taken a wallop or two in the fight, with bandits this time, near Savoy, but Athos is pretty sure Porthos’s hard head was up to the challenge.
“You barely acquiesce to Aramis’s urging that you attend church at Easter-tide,” Athos points out. “As infidel, without the egregious associations with bandits and those of a violent nature, or the use of the term as an accusation of baseness, is simply someone without religion
”
“What you on about?” Porthos asks, face scrunched up in amused disgust. “Anyway, if we’re gonna be pretentious and learned, let’s go Latin, where it means unfaithful. I’m gonna go fight the unfaithful.”
“What do you want them to be faithful to?” Athos asks, smiling again, stroking his cheek. He enjoys listening to Porthos talk.
“What’d it be like, do you think, if people were really faithful to God?” Porthos asks.
“What?” Athos says, hand stilling. Talking about belief is not the safest thing in the world, they’re all meant to believe in the same God and go through the important motion of church and prayer and faith. Athos had never taken Porthos for a religious man, but the way he said God’s name then had sounded different.
“Yeah, faith,” Porthos says, more energetically, pushing Athos away and sitting up. “Faith in Him, and that we can serve him by honouring and respecting people, and fighting for justice and what’s good and right. Instead of thinking that ‘faith’ means going to church and pretending and some kind of eradication of people who don’t fit in with our view of the world. We should have faith that if He made us, then we belong, and have faith that His view is right.”
“Oh,” Athos says, blinking. He’s known Aramis and Porthos to talk religion and debate theology, but he’s not usually the recipient of Porthos’s own ideas about faith.
“I’ve got faith as deep as Aramis,” Porthos says, defensive and belligerent. “Mine just trusts in God as I’ve found him, not in tracts and politics and maneuvering lines of what counts in order to make our wars.”
“I think Aramis
” Athos lets the thought slip away and presses a hand to Porthos’s chest, pushing him back down. “Stop distracting me with debates and lie down and rest.”
“You’re the one suggesting I fight infidels. Maybe I’ll fight Richelieu's ghost, I don’t think he had any faith at all,” Porthos grumbles, flat against Athos’s flat pillow again. Athos tries to put a blanket over his legs but Porthos kicks it forcefully away. “I’ll get my sword and go fight King Louis, he is perhaps not faithful.”
“I think we should forget the Latin for a while, at least until we’re able to censor ourselves and not speak treasonously,” Athos says.
“Athos, Aramis fucked the queen. There is no treason us four can commit any more, we’re already doomed,” Porthos says. Athos flinches, which makes Porthos laugh. “What? You think royalty somehow do it different?”
“You really should sleep,” Athos whispers, looking at his open window, the passing musketeers out in the yard close.
“Ah, thinking of me getting myself in trouble,” Porthos says, fondly, reaching up to pat Athos’s cheek. “I’m bored, I’m getting up.”
Athos sits, unsure what to do next. Aramis would probably sit on Porthos, d’Artagnan would probably get food and feed him until he was too full to move. Athos watches as Porthos sits up and gathers his things from where Athos dropped them off the side of the bed. When he leans over his eyes flutter closed, another fit passing over him.
“What did the physician tell you about that?” Athos asks, tersely.
“Nothing,” Porthos says, sitting up and glaring, stubbornly not swaying or closing his eyes.
Athos reaches out with two fingers and gives Porthos’s chest a gentle push, curious to see what will happen. To his surprise Porthos falls back, letting go his boots, lying flat on his back again. Athos hums and takes off his jacket, plan formed. He lies on top of Porthos, head resting on Porthos’s shoulder. Porthos struggles but it’s ineffective and eventually he subsides, grumbling softly. Athos stays there, glad of his success, and Porthos lies still and quiet for a time. They listen to the passing musketeers, their ribald conversations and complaints about their captain. Treville might technically be an advisor to the king but as he spends most of his days here and still fulfills the function of captain, they all ignore that.
“As much as I’m glad you’re resting,” Athos says, getting up on an elbow and looking at Porthos’s drowsy face, noting the pinch around his eyes and mouth, “it is not reassuring that I can hold you down so easily.”
Porthos opens his eyes and beams at Athos, bucking him off and getting up to his feet in a swift movement, grabbing Athos’s sword and standing, back to the door, steady and firm. In his stockings. Athos laughs, taking in his companion of so many years- broad shoulders, shirt loose, trousers tied messily this morning. His hair’s a cloud around his head, clean from leaping into a river with d’Artagnan yesterday. Porthos always makes something relent in Athos, the years and years of holding himself stiff and in control giving just enough. Porthos raises an eyebrow.
“Yes very good,” Athos says, shaking his head. “I am much relieved. I would be more impressed if I could not tell how much it is taking out of you.”
“My point is that I’m able,” Porthos says, dropping the sword and coming back over, dropping onto the bed with as little grace as the blade had falling. Athos is worried for his sword, his creaking bed, and Porthos. Less for Porthos, though.
“The physician told you to rest, which means you are fine,” Athos says, then holds up a hand when Porthos opens his mouth to say yes he knows he’s fine he’s been trying to tell people he’s fine. “You are fine, my Porthos, but your body needs to rest. You will make yourself ill really, if you do not rebuild your strength. Your blood is too thin from the loss of it. Drink wine and sleep and it will be thick once more.”
“Are you making up medical babble?” Porthos asks, crammed onto the bed, Athos pushed against the wall by him. It’s oddly comfortable.
“I am. Move, this is ridiculous,” Athos says. Porthos looks baffled for a moment then snorts and moves onto his back again so Athos can sprawl on top.
“Don’t trust me? That hurts, brother,” Porthos says, wriggling a hand over his heart, between his own and Athos’s bodies. “You are warmer than your tatty blanket. And it smells, what have you been doing with your evenings, Athos? Your bed smells like a stable.”
Athos keeps to himself that he slept in with Jeudi a few time last week when he was too drunk to find his room accurately. It’s comfortable and warm on top of Porthos and Athos is feeling dozy. He knows that there will be a war with the Spanish, and not in the too distant future, but right now the young prince is growing up, the queen is using her power to keep Louis from running the country like an infant, Louis himself is more interested in fatherhood than anything much else. And when war does come, Porthos will in all probability meet it with joy and stubborn competence. Athos will meet it with him, and probably lie on top of him to stop him getting himself into trouble. It’s an enjoyable technique. Porthos lets out a great snore, interupting Athos’s thoughts, and Athos takes the opportunity of Porthos sleeping to examine the lines on his face, the fatigue. It all looks like it’ll clear, with sleep. Athos smiles and rests his head on Porthos’s chest again, content.

FAKE IT - Six Secrets to Move Like a Sharpshooter
Hi Tumblr! Sorry for the erratic updates. I have been very busy, for secret reasons.
Soon a couple of my dear friends who have little or no experience of handling real firearms are going to be playing snipers at a new LARP game, so this week we're going to study how real life rifle sharpshooters move and shoot, and find ways to quickly emulate their skills in LARP.
This post is not about making you a better shot with functioning LARP firearm simulators like NERF, paintball or Airsoft weapons. The range on those weapons is so low that you can probably learn more by applying the principles of this post about LARP archery than from what I'm about to say here. This post is all about using real life techniques to provide body language and acting skills.

1. GET LOW. NO, LOWER
A clean shot is a stable shot. The most stable rest you're going to find for your rifle is the ground; an ideal firing position puts an absolute minimum of the wobbly squishy stuff, i.e. your body, between your rifle and the rest. The best firing position is "prone" - lying on your front, elbows on the ground, rifle resting on the ground and supported firmly in place.
Now Read On....
That isn't always possible, clearly; next best is seated (or squatting, if you're as flexible as a Gurkha), followed by kneeling, followed by standing. Each of these positions have "supported" and "unsupported" variants - "supported" here means that you're using a vertical feature like a rock, tree or post to keep your rifle still. Supported is always more stable, though some people find it trickier in the intermediate kneeling and squatting positions. (I am a worse shot kneeling supported than kneeling unsupported, but that's mostly because I've spent a LOT of time practising kneeling unsupported and not much practising at the post.)
If you're roleplaying lining up a shot in a leisurely fashion, get as low to the ground as you possibly can, and put the maximum of your body on it. Body parts on the ground don't shake, tremble or wobble about from muscle fatigue or heartbeat. Moving body parts mean a moving rifle, which means a poor shot.

2. ASSUME THE POSITION
Just like a good bench press, a good shot doesn't start in the hands - it starts in the feet. Beginning with the feet and moving up your body, you are now building up a firing position. Every part of your body wants to be balanced and relaxed; everything from your feet, up through your legs, groin, core, chest, arms and neck, must cause the rifle to point naturally at the target. If you are having to strain or force a muscle to point the rifle at the target, that strain will "uncoil" when you relax before you shoot, pulling you off aim. Shuffle and wiggle about until you're comfortable, look down the sights a few times - when you are not having to "pull" the rifle into position, but it naturally falls in line with the target, you've got it right!
This process sounds like it takes a long time, but once you are practised at it, much like a weightlifter setting up their lift, it can all be done in less than a second. You get used to the mechanics of your body very quickly when you are using it as a machine to make bullets go straight hundreds of times a day.
When prone, some people prefer to spread their legs like this, while others prefer to cock one leg up and keep the other straight, like this. The latter is often more practical on rough ground if you'll have to get up in a hurry. All the same processes apply in the seated, kneeling and squatting positions too; work through your body from toes to fingertips, tweaking until you are relaxed, balanced and the rifle is naturally aimed at the target.
In practical terms, kneeling is by far the most common position to shoot from, since it's the position you automatically adopt any time you're not moving while on patrol. Most people in British forces kneel on the right knee; this leaves the left thigh flat, which in turn means you can rest your left elbow on a flat surface. This is important because your left hand controls the front of the rifle, the "business end", and small movements up here mean big trouble with your shot. (This is particularly true with the standard British rifle, the SA-80, a heavy and back-weighted bullpup weapon balanced almost on the pistol grip.)
Tumblr media
This is HM the Queen firing an SA-80. I am not going to critique her shooting, because she is the Queen.
(Nobody is left-handed when using an SA-80; the spent casings are ejected from the right side of the weapon, and attempting to fire it with your left hand on the pistol grip and trigger - i.e. with the buttstock in your left shoulder - results in hot brass in your face.)
(This fact, incidentally, is why you often see images of British troops wearing only one kneepad, and that on the right knee.)
3. HANDS ON
Now you've got the gross motor stuff right, it's time to think about arms and hands. Your elbows should be tucked close in to your body; the further out they are, the more small movements of your arms will be magnified to create large movements of the rifle. (Tucking in also gives you a flatter, longer base for your buttstock to rest against, and reduces your profile to incoming fire.) If you're lying down, brace them firmly on the ground. Seated, brace both on the insides of your knees. Kneeling, rest one elbow firmly on the meat of your thigh which is parallel to the ground, tuck the other one in. Standing, just tuck 'em in and hope for the best!
Honestly, tucking your elbows in while firing standing is the single most effective thing a LARPer can do to make themself look like a more professional shot in a hurry.
Tumblr media
Photo by Oliver Facey, from Tommy Guns and Temperance. Although I can’t see the left elbow, I can tell from the angle of the wrist it’s very nicely tucked in, providing a stable base for the gun and making the shooter appear professional and accurate.
Using your non-dominant hand, draw the stock of your rifle tightly in to your dominant shoulder. You are trying to give it as solid and immovable a platform as possible. This is why standing is the least stable of all the positions; when standing, your rifle's only connections to the solid ground are through your shoulder and non-dominant hand, then through your ENTIRE wobbly-ass fleshsack to those two tiny Vibram bootsoles. So many things can go wrong in that chain - it's like trying to open your front door with the housekeys on the end of a fishing pole. Much better to give it a nice stable foot-knee-foot tripod or, better still, a lovely wide butt to connect it to the ground! Best of all, of course, is to let the rifle have some ground contact of its very own; and this is why the prone position is ideal.
Your dominant hand should NOT be clenching tightly on the grip or helping yank the rifle towards your body. It should be closed firmly but gently around the grip, with the index finger running along the outside of the trigger guard. It should NOT be taking any of the big muscle work of keeping the rifle steady; it's going to have its work cut out in a minute, so give it a rest. Use your non-dominant arm to pull inwards. This is easier said than done on rifles which lack foregrips.
Now, assuming you have built up your position correctly, as you pull the rifle into your shoulder and lower your cheek towards the buttstock to look through the sights, you should find that the rifle points naturally at your target and you barely have to do any aiming at all with your hands. If not, that's OK; but the solution now is NOT to yank the rifle way over to one side in order to bring yourself on target - it is instead to build up your position again from the start (yes, from the feet!) until you are back on.
Tumblr media
Photo by Oliver Facey, from Pioneers LARP. Building up a good position, semi prone in cover, keeping a low profile and close to the ground.
4. EYES ON
Now that you've built up your position, you want to be looking for what is called a "sight picture". On a weapon which has "iron sights" - physical notches along the top of the rifle - this means ensuring those notches are in line with each other, and with the target; those three reference points all lining up are helping you ensure that the rifle is aligned vertically and horizontally to the target. Through a scope, it's much more straightforward; assuming your rifle has been zeroed correctly**, simply ensuring that the your scope is clear and not shadowed top or side (and that the target is showing in the middle!) is enough. To replicate this step in LARP, if you're not using real sights on your weapon, just take a moment to stare down the length of the rifle at the target, with your non-dominant eye closed.
Tumblr media
Photo by @tomgarnett, from Pioneers LARP. A good example of standing unsupported, with straight, balanced posture and the buttstock firmly drawn into the shoulder - note the tension in the grip of the left hand. A quick glance over the top of the sights helps centre your aim before you bring your cheek down to get your sight picture.
5. BREATHE WITH ME
In real life, what happens now is that a sharpshooter will take a few steady breaths in and out. If they have done everything up to this point correctly, they will see the target track up and down slightly in their sights, with no horizontal movement. If they're seeing horizontal movement, that means they haven't built up their position correctly and need to start all over again!
You won't see this unless you're using a real sight; but the breaths are an excellent piece of roleplay to demonstrate you're ready to shoot.
We are taught that a sharpshooter fires with empty lungs, just after exhaling. Spending too long waiting to fire after setting up the sight picture is called "dwelling in the aim", and often leads to inaccuracies. This is because the longer you stay completely static, the more your muscles will start to tremble - microtremors can throw off your shot substantially. Shooting on the exhale helps relax your muscles as well as reminding you not to stay there too long - it's harder to hold your breath out than in. My target shooting usually goes "breathe in, out, in, out, fire".
I find the moment between exhaling and releasing the shot a very calm, peaceful and meditative moment. This is something you might choose to incorporate into your roleplay. Think of the way the _Hunger Games_ films focus on Katniss' last breath before narratively important shots - it's much like that.
Tumblr media
Photo by Oliver Facey, from Death Unto Darkness. Kneeling unsupported, great body language - he is clearly hunched right into the rifle and using his whole body to steady it. Note the left elbow braced on his flat thigh.
6. THE RELEASE: DOS AND DONT'S
Mostly don'ts, actually!
Releasing the shot is all about your hands. You may think that pulling the trigger on a rifle is the easiest thing in the world, but actually this is where an awful lot of mistakes are made.
DON'T - keep the safety off. Your safety catch, if present, should come off just before you're ready to fire, stay off until you've fired all your rounds at a single target, and then go straight back on.
DON'T - snatch at the trigger. Your movement should be a gentle squeeze of the index finger *through* the bite point of the trigger with calm, even pressure.
DON'T - move straight away. "Follow through" by staying in position for a second after the shot; this both helps prevent subconscious last-minute movement and lets you get an immediate damage assessment impression of whether your round has struck or not.
DON'T - forget about recoil! Your LARP weapon is very unlikely to simulate recoil. A real rifle jerks backwards and the barrel a little upwards every time you fire. If it's setting appropriate, simulate this with a quick jerk up and back with your non-dominant hand. (If your character's rifle fires lasers or is some equally advanced bullshit space gun, it may not have recoil at all.) (Recoil is dependent on weapon construction and calibre; a high-calibre round from a flimsy plastic American rifle hurts a lot more than a 5.56mm from something as beautifully solid and overengineered as the SA-80.) (If your character is an inexperienced shot, consider roleplaying a bruised and sore dominant shoulder!)
DON'T - stay too long! Once you've popped off a shot or two, you have alerted the enemy to your presence, and muzzle flash will soon be giving your position away. Fire no more than three rounds before moving position, even if it's only a few metres to roll into a different bit of cover.
Tumblr media
Photo by Oliver Facey, from Pioneers LARP. This is Sarah. She is applying none of the marksmanship principles, because she does what she likes. There are no faults whatsoever in this picture; she is flawless.
* I apologise for the gendered language; it's the Army's technical term and I don't have another clear one. "Sniper" isn't quite right in this instance because I'm not actually talking about sniping, which is its own separate discipline (that has more in common with reconaissance than combat shooting). Alternatives gratefully accepted!
** This is not a process you need to worry about in LARP; because you are playing a Professional Shooty Person, you may assume they have zeroed their rifle correctly offscreen. Zeroing a rifle is boring and not roleplay you wish to engage in ;).

He’d love to go on a world tour and sell out large stadiums and not have to worry about falling through and being forgotten, for everyone to know who XLNC are. That is where he would like to be in the future and doesn’t even want to think about not achieving that goal. Jinho would also like to work more towards variety as well and maybe get a returning or permanent position on a notable variety show, or several as he loves doing that kind of thing.
IDOL IMAGE
Han Jinho seems to just flit through life like nothing every bothers him despite the criticism he always seems to get because of it. Some seem to think that he is undeserving of being in the position he’s in as he never seems to take anything seriously. But this is far from the case, he is a man who is willing to do anything to keep where he is, often spending hours practising by himself out of the public eye and staying awake until the early hours of the morning working and desperately trying to make sure everything is perfect with his music. He’s scared to disappoint, scared to flop, scared to lose everything he has been working towards for years.
But that is not what he wants the public to see. All his life he’s been a joker, willing to go the extra mile to get a smile and a laugh out of people even if it means sacrificing his own image. He’s sort of an annoying older brother, looking out for the little guy and more than happy to step into the line of fire to protect people, while also messing around and acting like he’s five years old instead of twenty-five. But he has a soft heart and always wears a smile on his face no matter how hard the times might get, always willing to be a shoulder for his bandmates and friends to cry on if they need to. And they might even manage to squeeze a few tears out of him if they try hard enough.
Some have told him that he just doesn’t fit in with the rest of the band, their emotional image is not right for him, to which Jinho will happily tell anyone, “the other guys are emotional enough to cover me as well!” It never really works out all too well when he tries to be serious and he can still be found messing around with his bandmates or just simply bothering them to try to get them to 'lighten up a little’. But there is no doubt that he cares deeply about his bandmates, under it all he’s always worrying about something. Especially their fans, there is nothing he won’t do for their fans to make them happy.
But, of course, with his personality there have always been clashes between him and his bandmates. Though you will often find that Jinho is the one at the end always trying to mend those broken bridges and apologizing, but no doubt he will only end up repeating past actions again in the future. But he is the one to always try and initiate contact again after a falling out, almost bothering them into forgiving him with snacks.
To make their marketing team have an easier time, he does try and fit their concepts and image more during promotions, going out of his way to try and die down a little on the jokes and bothering people. Though, they have also since given up with trying to get that to work and have pushed on with the brand he seems to just revert to without even trying, the mood maker, the funny guy, the annoying older brother figure of the group. They also make it work with the variety side of the group, something Jinho is far more suited for.
On stage is his confident, voice full of emotion and acts a lot more serious, though is always trying to win the hearts of fans with a dashing smile and winks at the camera. Off stage, however, he does tend to go back to his natural self and is usually the one who talks the most during interviews and whenever there is a camera pointed at him. Even when there is no camera he is the chatty and go-lucky older brother, always trying to get everyone involved and always trying to make sure XLNC are like a family.
Because, to him, they are really the only family has has.
IDOL HISTORY
Most of his life, Jinho has had a silver spoon shoved in his mouth. Born in Busan to a prominent and high ranking CEO and businessman and a lawyer from one of the top firms in Busan, his parents had never had to worry about money. They lived in the fine life, expensive clothes, a large home, expensive food, going out to posh restaurants every other night and they never had to worry about the price of anything they wanted. This was the life that Jinho was born into and he’s always hated it. His parents only had him to better their image and produce an heir to follow on the family line. Almost as soon as he was born he was discarded by his parents to be brought up by a nanny and their live-in butler. Those two individuals cared and brought him up more than his real parents ever did.
He was homeschooled for most of his younger years, the butler and the nanny taking on equal parts of his tutoring. And they cared for the boy, loving him almost as though he was their own son. He even became friends with his nanny’s real children, twin girls who were around the same age as him and they were often brought over for play-dates (unbeknown to his parents as they would never allow such things.)
When he was ten years old, however, his parents enrolled him in a private all boys boarding school. It was goodbye to the world he had known grown up as he was pushed into this school against his own will. Jinho hated every moment, the heavy focus on his grades and studying, the other boys who always seemed to look down on him even though he was 'one of them’. Somehow, he never fit in, his happier and brighter personality shot down by the other boys who were all there to better themselves and bring wealth to their families. They didn’t care about making jokes and playing around, it was always work, work, work with them. This was a dog-eat-dog world and Jinho always seemed to be the one getting eaten by everyone else.
He was an outcast. Had no friends. Hated by most of his classmates and completely ignored by the teachers who liked cherry picking the brightest and best students. That was where he found his solace in music. With the help of the more-on-the-nice-side musically inclined boys, they helped him learn how to play the guitar and it wasn’t too long before he decided this is what he wanted to do with his life. Jinho worked hard, bettering his skill with the instrument and even started to sing with a little help from the music teacher who happened to notice his talent.
Music was the only lesson he ever enjoyed after that. The teacher was a kind woman, one who would not often be found in a school such as this and she gave Jinho the attention he needed. While the boy still never had any real friends, playing the guitar and singing was his comfort, his outlet and a way to forget where he currently was. Though, when his parents eventually found out they were not impressed. They banned him from singing, selling his guitar and pulling him out of boarding school, instead, sending him to a closer private school so they could keep an eye on him and his grades.
Jinho refused to conform to what they wanted, sneaking out behind his parent’s back to start busking where he could, buying a guitar of his own and practising when he was home alone. While his nanny had long since been let go as she was no longer needed, the butler was still there and promised to keep young sir’s little secret. He was the only supporter Jinho had left and would always make sure to clap for every performance Jinho put on for him.
Eventually, when Jinho was seventeen he decided that enough was enough, made a big scene in front of his parents about how he loved music and then left home. He was never welcome there, anyway. Taking all of the money out of the account his parents had for him for a college fund before they had a chance to take it out themselves or lock it away from him, Jinho used it to run to Seoul and buy a small apartment for himself, and to help finish his final year in high school, setting about starting up a new life for himself doing what he wanted for a change. He got himself a job in a local record shop and he enjoyed the work, always smiling and having fun with the other employees and also got to gush about music to all the customers. However, most of his attention was always in his own music, going out most weekends to busk to the public.
It was a co-worker who told him about the local open auditions KTM were holding, excitedly showing Jinho the leaflet and urging him to go along. So, he decided to give it a shot, not really expecting anything to come from it. But, when he managed to make it through the audition process and was offered a position as a trainee, it was came as surprise. While he had never really thought about being an idol, Jinho was quite to accept. This was his chance to do music for the rest of his life and he didn’t want to let the opportunity pass him by.
He worked harder than he ever had in school towards his goal of finally debuting, though the training period seemed to drag on forever. At first, the company had goals of putting him into their new idol boy group, but his progress was coming along too slowly, his dancing almost non-existent, he hadn’t trained for long enough, so they eventually dropped him from the project. And Jinho was heartbroken, feeling as though his chance had just been ripped from his fingers, but he never gave up, just working harder to finally get his chance. And he would get it, he refused to give up and refused to go back to where he was before.
Finally he got his chance after years of training as they approached him about training for their new idea – a band.
Jinho jumped at the chance and agreed without even thinking about it. He was twenty-two at the time and getting no younger and knew this was likely to be his last chance. So, he was put into training with the other boys, getting to engross himself in his love of singing and his love of playing the guitar as well. Eventually, he and three others were put together and the group was formed. XLNC. He finally felt like it was coming together, he got to stand on a stage and do what he loved. But it was not all it was choked up to be, they didn’t perform live, their struggles to gain any fame, their almost lack of promotions.
Things got worse when a couple of 'fans’ managed to find out where he had come from only a couple of months after their debut. They plastered an old newspaper clipping all over the internet, a picture of him and his rich parents, the story simply about his father’s recent victory in a lawsuit. The claims soon poured in after the picture and his background emerged that he didn’t really have talent, that his parents had paid for his place in the group and he didn’t really deserve it. The scandal hit Jinho hard, but he tried to not let it bother him or let anyone see he was hurting. He just worked harder on proving everyone wrong, staying true to himself and still trying to seem bright in front of the cameras and focusing on the music. KTM eventually released a statement about the situation, shooting down the rumours and clearing up Jinho’s name. And the scandal eventually died down after the statement was released, but he still has it in his mind, tirelessly working to prove he has the talent and he deserves to be in the spotlight.
He still works hard to this day even if he feels like they aren’t getting anywhere fast, tyres just spinning in the mud. But he knows it’s a long road, always trying to stay positive and focusing and just making people happy and making music people can jam along to.

Evaluation of Object and Book Project:
Both projects involved a lot of experimentation and trial and error.
For the Object project, the context of a cd and the lyrics on all songs motivated my design decisions a lot. I wanted to emphasise the lyrics thus I used newspaper cutouts for the lettering; a main feature of my designs. Research showed cutout newspaper letters are used a lot for album covers/cds so it was fitting. For my book, when given the word ‘structure’, Braille seemed very relevant as it’s structure is its very reason for being able to communicate to the blind. As soon as i researched into the topic, i started to see it a lot in my day to day life. It’s something that we ignore or don't take into consideration if it is not of use to us.
In terms of development of my object project, I was originally going to create a character for the cd and make a storyline around HMV and the cd loosing it’s friends. However after tutorial and reassessing the options, i decided to focus on the cd and it’s nature rather making a story. For the book project, i tested a lot of front cover titles and found i needed to be careful as sometimes using circles on the cells as the main feature looked like bubbles. As seen on my previous blog post, i also experimented with creating designs with the term 6-dot cell however in the end i found what worked best was simply clear bold text, braille translation lines and circular patterns.
Managing my time for the object project was difficult as a lot of my development involved being active in taking photographs outside/ buying the object. However i feel i did manage my time well as i took the photographs as soon as I could so I could really focus on developing and manipulating them on Photoshop. For the book project, the deadlines came fast so it was vital i managed time. As a lot of my imagery and designs are created on In design, I spent most time digitally working, testing and exploring different layouts.
Feedback on the colour of my photography and how the text and images related and complimented eachother was very important for my development and how I got to the final 10 images; I feel I responded appropriately.                  I responded well to feedback on my book design- if a double page spread wasn't working or need to reassessing, i altered it; receiving an outside opinion was really useful. Feedback more specifically on factors such as on major layout concepts e.g.: widows/ orphans/ hang line ensured I could create a clean professional finish to the book.
In terms of the design process, for both projects, i still have a lot I could learn and develop on Adobe software whether it be Photoshop or In Design. There are so many useful tools which i haven’t mastered and so practising and learning from Scott’s tutorials will help. I also could still research more in depth into my projects, looking at a broader range to really see my options and where I could take a topic.
From this unit, I have learnt many technical skills on Adobe, some important basic design layout terms (e.g. ‘rag’), typography and it’s importance, screen printing and letterpress and basic layout and grid methods using pen and digitally. From the theoretical side of things, I’ve been able to think and learn about character profiling/ communicating ideas using semiotics and signs, discuss perception, how we communicate, issues involved such as gender bias and learn about and create our own Zines.
For my object project, I feel there is definitely room for improvement. If given more time, i would experimented with other layout options rather than using cartridge paper. I would’ve also made the 10 images much larger or the text bigger as in my Crit, it was difficult to understand the narrative due to sizing and this was something which was brought up. For the book project, I would've explored the option of embossing the paper as this would've made the book more interactive and combined the topic and its design nicely. If I had more time, using screen prints to create circular shapes or my own braille would've been another option.

Stuff is going
I’m 7 days into P90X. That’s 1 week done out of about 13. Am I stronger? I actually don’t know, because I haven’t been keeping track of my exercise progress and how much I can do. I look a little thinner though I think, and my weight has stayed at a solid high 170s. I should probably keep track of weights and stuff. Umm...I’m tired? I get up at 6am on weekdays now, because by the time I finish breakfast its 6:30, and I gotta wait an hour before working out, and workouts take like 1:15 to 1:30, so then its like 9am. Then I shower and stuff and get out the door to catch the 9:30 bus. That means I go to bed at around 10pm now, though I should probably go a little earlier. I’m just really tired. I dunno. I haven’t had “normal” food in like a week in that case. It’s just been all protein shakes and shit. Shit not being bad food, but food way healthier than normal people would eat, like a bunch of broccoli with fat-free mozzarella cheese melted on top of it, and tuna salad with a bunch of veggies and low-fat mayo. My favorite dish, I think, is when I put 4 slices of turkey bacon on a whole-wheat tortilla and cover it with guacamole. I eat so much protein its disgusting. Good thing I’m used to drinking thick protein-filled liquid for breakfast. No not cum, I meant Soylent. I spent a lot of this weekend just hanging out with C. There was a furry bowling thing, and we binge-watched all of season 2 of the Voltron show on Netflix together. We also went grocery shopping together. There was this girl at furry bowling that was there with her mom, and this was her first time there doing furry stuff, which I could tell because she wasn’t talking to anyone. She was not unattractive, so I went up to them and started talking with her and her mom. Then this fucking neckbeardy guy just shows up in the conversation like 2 minutes in and so I just left?? I wasn’t really feeling it. It was kind of overbearing, and the speed at which he showed up basically was an indicator to me that he was waiting for an opening for someone to start a conversation with them so he could jump in and start macking on this girl. Like come on, if you want to talk with someone, walk over and start a conversation like me, don’t wait for someone with balls to do it and then jump into that one. Whatever. If she was there with her mom, she was probably like 18-19, and too young for me anyway. I’m basically proud of myself for not being a pussy and just not going over there. I’m just practising starting conversations.
I meant to do a bunch of other shit on Saturday, like buy concealer for my eye circles, but it was so rainy and I’ve been really getting into H1Z1: King of The Kill... I played that for a few hours when I should have been productive. I’ll probably stop, it’s not good for me. I read this askreddit thread recently, like what are signs that someone is secretly unhappy: “https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/5po55m/what_are_signs_that_someone_is_secretly_unhappy/
And I read a lot of them, and I’m like, hmmm, am I unhappy? The answer is maybe. But I’m working hard to better myself and become more confident. Maybe I’m not unhappy, and I’m just tired because I only got like 7 hours of sleep instead of 8, and I’m up at like 6am. That seems feasible. Another girl liked my OKCupid profile. 70% match. On the shorter side, Indian. Would I go for her? Should I go for her? I probably will. I’ll sent her a message today probably. What have I got to lose? I don’t know. I’m still trucking. No matter how long this stuff takes, no matter how long I need to work out my body and be on this ridiculous diet to get a nice body, I can do it. I guess I wish there were more hours in the day so I could sleep...The constant rain isn’t helping. A little is okay, but the amount we’ve had over the past few days is not.  Also, I’d like the make the marker that this time in history was around the time that “alternative facts” was added into our lexicon as a country. This shit is really happening, oh my god. Things are going to get a lot more difficult. I sound like a broken record I guess. Maybe I’ll try and make something happen worth writing about next post. Or maybe I won’t, who cares. This blog doesn’t exactly have a huge following. Shit, it’s 7:40. I’m gonna be late If I don’t start working out.
