thinking about how my kotsam mcs are foils to each other in how they see themselves in the role of a hero or as a main character of the story

salvia : she never wants to become a hero. period. she just wants to stay as an ordinary girl, living a normal, boring, ordinary human life. salvia is like that one post going around of a chosen one character who tries their absolute best to avoid anything even slightly magical/supernatural (her insistence of staying ordinary comes from a place of wanting to belong because she never felt like she did in the human world. the reason why she chose to become a magician later is also linked to this: she felt left out being the only human and wanted to fit in with the rest of the magical world). and then to her frustration, she is revealed to be a keeper which means she's special, she's destined for great things, but also means that people close to her will get hurt. after what happened to kol and her suitemates in the fight against reyna, it makes her feel that everything is her fault.

titania : they used to dream of being a hero/chosen one, of having powers that can save the world, like a life out of ya novels (if salvia is that one post, titania is that other post about a fictional character appearing in your room, asking you to come with them, and you dropping everything to go with them). then their fantasy became reality and they found out being a hero/chosen one entails more than just helping people, that people might use and manipulate you for their own agendas because of your status and powers, that you and your loved ones might suffer beyond what you can bear for the necessary tragic backstory™. and even the part of helping people is not that easy. sometimes you fail and can't save anyone.

danica : and then there's dani, who doesn't want to be hailed as a hero or anything like that but wants to keep helping people. who sympathises with the villain, who wants to give people second chances, who wants to put more good in this world because she can. the ideal, true hero, if you will.
